Speaker 5: loaded up show today. This show, this show may be
1:49
Speaker 5: good enough to put on the radio. I'm just saying
1:51
Speaker 5: we might actually put this one on the show on
1:53
Speaker 5: the air. Amelia Nicely from West Virginia Watch is going
1:56
Speaker 5: to join us some breaking news late yesterday and it's
1:59
Speaker 5: really not in this part of the state, but it's
2:01
Speaker 5: going to impact all of West Virginia and it has
2:04
Speaker 5: to do with the folks up in the plant layoff.
2:09
Speaker 5: I'll get to it here in a minute up in
2:11
Speaker 5: weird and so she's been following that story. Plus we
2:13
Speaker 5: had the Niosh court hearing yesterday and Judge iren Berger's
2:18
Speaker 5: courtroom here in Charleston. Chris Lawnce of course covered that
2:21
Speaker 5: extensively for us. Amelia is also on that story, so
2:25
Speaker 5: she's going to join us in the studio. Real ID
2:27
Speaker 5: is now a day old, and we're gonna check in
2:30
Speaker 5: with DOMINIQE. Grenaria from West Virginia International Yeager Airport to
2:32
Speaker 5: see how things are going there. You know, one of
2:36
Speaker 5: the sponsors of the show your Hometown baseball team, the
2:38
Speaker 5: Charleston Dirty Birds. Well, the Birds have a game tonight.
2:41
Speaker 5: Actually have to check the Scots. Do they have a
2:43
Speaker 5: game that night or not? I'm not sure, but anyway,
2:44
Speaker 5: Jill Garin from the Dirty Birds is going to join
2:47
Speaker 5: us because they're getting ready for the NEC tournament. It's
2:49
Speaker 5: actually already going on, so we'll talk to Jail about that.
2:52
Speaker 5: Plus is always your calls and text are welcome to
2:55
Speaker 5: I want to talk some virtual schools in West Virginia.
2:57
Speaker 5: Doug Cchipelletti from the West Virginia Virtual Academy is in
3:00
Speaker 5: studio with us this morning. National Charter School Week is
3:03
Speaker 5: next week. Doug here to talk about a Doug, welcome
3:05
Speaker 5: to the show.
3:06
Speaker 2: They've good to see you.
3:07
Speaker 5: Thanks for having me changed a little bit since you
3:09
Speaker 5: were here last time.
3:10
Speaker 6: You know.
3:10
Speaker 2: Yeah, it looks really nice though.
3:12
Speaker 5: Yeah, it's uh, we're happy with it. Yeah, it looks good.
3:16
Speaker 5: So this is done with the National Alliance for Public
3:20
Speaker 5: Charter Schools. Talk about that alliance and just I'll just
3:23
Speaker 5: you're an old pro at this. I'll just let you
3:25
Speaker 5: take it from it.
3:25
Speaker 7: Well, so I think first I just want to point
3:29
Speaker 7: out that it is National Teacher Appreciation Week, which teachers
3:33
Speaker 7: should be appreciated and cherished and loved on every day
3:37
Speaker 7: of the year. The things that they do in the
3:39
Speaker 7: classroom for students is magical, and they're the true magicians
3:43
Speaker 7: and they're what make the system work. And so the
3:46
Speaker 7: National Alliance also sort of piggybacks off of the week
3:50
Speaker 7: where we celebrate teachers, and they focus in on school choice,
3:56
Speaker 7: where we recognize across the country, especially here in West Virginia,
4:01
Speaker 7: students and families are interested in pursuing alternative education options,
4:08
Speaker 7: and we have a very robust and active legislature in
4:12
Speaker 7: the past few years that has passed laws to allow
4:16
Speaker 7: students a voice and a choice. And we're just really
4:19
Speaker 7: grateful and we're thankful to be a part of this
4:21
Speaker 7: big movement.
4:23
Speaker 5: And let's talk about the rise in this movement. Let's
4:26
Speaker 5: talk about some numbers. Off the top of your head,
4:27
Speaker 5: I'm going to put you on the spot, but I
4:29
Speaker 5: mean more. The bottom line is more and more parents
4:32
Speaker 5: are choosing this for their kids.
4:34
Speaker 2: Yes.
4:34
Speaker 7: So when I took over this position in June of
4:39
Speaker 7: twenty two, there were sixteen students enrolled. We're just under
4:44
Speaker 7: twenty two hundred in less than three years. I'm no mathematician,
4:48
Speaker 7: but that's a pretty big jump. It's a very big jump.
4:51
Speaker 7: And part of it is because the first year we
4:54
Speaker 7: served grades K through ten. Then we added juniors, then
4:57
Speaker 7: we added seniors this year, which super excited. Coming up
5:01
Speaker 7: on May twentieth, we have our first graduating class the
5:04
Speaker 7: ceremonies over at the University of Charleston. We're expecting about
5:08
Speaker 7: one hundred graduates to walk across the stage and their
5:11
Speaker 7: families are very excited. I think we'll have five or
5:14
Speaker 7: six hundred people in attendance. It's going to be a
5:16
Speaker 7: really big game.
5:16
Speaker 5: Did you think when this thing got started in twenty
5:18
Speaker 5: twenty two? Is that what you said?
5:20
Speaker 2: Yes?
5:20
Speaker 5: I mean I know you had you had an image
5:25
Speaker 5: of your head of how successful that you wanted to be.
5:27
Speaker 5: But are you even surprised by it?
5:31
Speaker 7: Yes, to some extent, although I think more and more
5:36
Speaker 7: as we hire amazing staff members, which I do say
5:41
Speaker 7: that in the most sincere way. Our teachers are phenomenal
5:45
Speaker 7: and our families feel that love and there are best advocates.
5:49
Speaker 7: They're the ones that are telling their friends, hey, you
5:51
Speaker 7: should check out this school. The teachers are really caring,
5:53
Speaker 7: they actually listen to us. But to be at twenty
5:57
Speaker 7: two hundred or just under, sometimes do have to pinch
6:00
Speaker 7: myself and say, wow. But here we are with our
6:03
Speaker 7: first graduating class. I knew that was coming. And right now,
6:08
Speaker 7: my administration, the teachers, the counselors, they are working so
6:12
Speaker 7: hard to one put the finishing touches on graduation and
6:15
Speaker 7: two making sure kids get across the finish line. So
6:18
Speaker 7: we're just very thankful to be here and super excited.
6:22
Speaker 5: And the graduation ceremony just like any other graduation ceremony, right.
6:26
Speaker 7: So this is fun because we're a virtual school. We
6:28
Speaker 7: do it two ways. Okay, so we do have an
6:31
Speaker 7: in person especially for our inauguration. You know, if there's
6:34
Speaker 7: a first class this, this is gonna be big.
6:36
Speaker 5: Well, this will go down in history, as they say,
6:38
Speaker 5: the first ever graduating class.
6:40
Speaker 7: Yes, this is the first ever. But our families have
6:43
Speaker 7: historically told us they like being in person. So yes,
6:46
Speaker 7: we're a virtual school, but we provide lots of I
6:49
Speaker 7: think we've had almost thirty field trips this year where
6:52
Speaker 7: we provide opportunities for families to get together in person.
6:56
Speaker 7: But this first class, so regular ceremony, four o'clock, University
7:01
Speaker 7: of Charleston. We've got the whole order, We've got the
7:04
Speaker 7: band coming in, we've got a sign language interpreter. I mean,
7:08
Speaker 7: we've got police coming you know, for security, the whole.
7:13
Speaker 7: I mean, just what you would expect. But we also
7:16
Speaker 7: pre record a slide show so that families who can't drive,
7:21
Speaker 7: say from Martinsburg, we're going to air a virtual program
7:25
Speaker 7: on the twenty third, So we we're going to do
7:27
Speaker 7: it two ways.
7:28
Speaker 5: For family feeling there'd be some virtual in there somewhere, well, well,
7:31
Speaker 5: you guys do things well.
7:32
Speaker 7: But we're also going to live stream the event for
7:35
Speaker 7: the actual event on the twentieth, So I guess we're
7:39
Speaker 7: kind of offering it three ways in person, the live stream,
7:42
Speaker 7: and then we'll also have just just a virtual on
7:45
Speaker 7: the twenty third. Lots of stuff. Yeah, it's a lot
7:48
Speaker 7: to keep up with, it is, it is. I'm very,
7:51
Speaker 7: very grateful for my team. They just work tirelessly to
7:54
Speaker 7: serve kids.
7:55
Speaker 5: Yeah, and I think, and you're always good about doing this,
7:58
Speaker 5: but maybe give a shout out to your team, you
8:00
Speaker 5: know a little bit more.
8:03
Speaker 7: Everybody from uh. I mean, I could sit here and
8:07
Speaker 7: I was gonna say, if I name named it, we're
8:08
Speaker 7: going to be here for.
8:09
Speaker 5: A while, and you'll leave somebody often and you'll get
8:11
Speaker 5: in trouble.
8:11
Speaker 7: So yes, I just if you listen to this, everybody
8:16
Speaker 7: from the office staff to the administration to the teachers, truly,
8:20
Speaker 7: from the bottom of my heart, thank you. They They
8:23
Speaker 7: often ask me what what are we doing at the school?
8:29
Speaker 7: And and I always point back to my north star
8:32
Speaker 7: is real simple. We answer two questions. Who does this
8:36
Speaker 7: impact and who does this benefit? And it's the second
8:40
Speaker 7: part right there that is really critical because a lot
8:43
Speaker 7: of times in education, decisions are made and it doesn't
8:47
Speaker 7: always have the best benefit for kids, and so students
8:51
Speaker 7: and kids are obviously the answer that I'm looking for
8:53
Speaker 7: on the first two. But teachers by default are also
8:58
Speaker 7: in that mix because we can't impact kids without good staff.
9:01
Speaker 7: So they know that's my north star. So I appreciate
9:04
Speaker 7: you all so much. You guys are the true rock
9:06
Speaker 7: stars and the magicians.
9:08
Speaker 5: Doctor Doug Chipeletti from the Western UNI Virtual Academy, but
9:10
Speaker 5: Dave Island Show on five Eddy Live brought to you
9:12
Speaker 5: in part by Jute Jot Security Systems. Visit protected by
9:16
Speaker 5: Jute dot Com or follow them on Facebook. Now you're
9:20
Speaker 5: in c DOAA certified. Yes, what does that mean?
9:23
Speaker 7: Well, it's an accreditation process. It's very rigorous where the schools.
9:30
Speaker 7: It's not just an automatic thing, especially for a new
9:32
Speaker 7: virtual charter school. So we've been working with the NC
9:36
Speaker 7: double A and we have to submit all kinds of paperwork.
9:39
Speaker 7: And I will name Cheryl Staley. She's our academic administrator.
9:43
Speaker 7: She's been on the show before. She has been the
9:46
Speaker 7: champion getting us across the finish line. And so what
9:49
Speaker 7: this means is our students who choose to go on
9:52
Speaker 7: to college, which we do have three kids that are
9:55
Speaker 7: joining the Marines that are graduating. We have three kids
9:58
Speaker 7: that got the promised scholarship, and so if one of
10:01
Speaker 7: those kids was also a student athlete and they wanted
10:05
Speaker 7: to go play sports, that's really where the NCAA approval
10:11
Speaker 7: process comes into play.
10:13
Speaker 5: I had a feeling, I mean, I didn't realize it
10:15
Speaker 5: was that in encompassing, but I had a feeling that
10:16
Speaker 5: it would be something like that. So the kids this
10:19
Speaker 5: graduating class, of one of them did decide that they
10:22
Speaker 5: wanted to play ball at University of Charles in West
10:25
Speaker 5: Virginia State Marshall WU, they ideally could do.
10:28
Speaker 7: That, Yes, and the credits and things that they get
10:31
Speaker 7: from high school would be acknowledged.
10:34
Speaker 5: Okay, all right, what's the And again, I've had you
10:36
Speaker 5: on several times, probably going back to since you started
10:40
Speaker 5: the Virtual Academy back in twenty twenty two. Dispel misconceptions,
10:45
Speaker 5: because I know this is what you get all the time.
10:47
Speaker 5: You're at church or grocery store and you strike up
10:50
Speaker 5: a conversation with somebody and they say, well, there's no
10:52
Speaker 5: socialization for these kids. They sit in front of a
10:55
Speaker 5: computer all day or some sort of a device. Dispel
10:58
Speaker 5: all of the stuff as I to guests about another
11:00
Speaker 5: subject the other day. Tell us what you're not.
11:04
Speaker 7: We are not simply a program that is never engaged
11:10
Speaker 7: with kids. We have West Virginia certified teachers who teach.
11:16
Speaker 7: They do provide live instruction, they provide office hours. We
11:21
Speaker 7: have counselors who make phone calls, who do video calls.
11:26
Speaker 7: We connect with kids. So we're not just some behind
11:30
Speaker 7: the screen you never see our faces. We're very real people.
11:35
Speaker 7: We also have, like I said earlier in the show,
11:39
Speaker 7: we have lots of field trips. We have clubs, so
11:43
Speaker 7: one of our we have clubs baked into our schedule.
11:46
Speaker 7: We have a cooking club, we have a Minecraft club,
11:49
Speaker 7: We have dungeons and dragons where we provide all kinds
11:52
Speaker 7: of opportunities for kids to co mingle and get that socialization,
11:58
Speaker 7: whether it's in person at the ex coal mine in
12:01
Speaker 7: Beckley or there's a petting zoo over in Putnam County.
12:04
Speaker 7: So I guess what the dis the belief is we
12:09
Speaker 7: don't do anything normal, but we do. I've made a
12:13
Speaker 7: plug the other day. We had prom last Saturday. Yeah, yeah,
12:16
Speaker 7: you know, so we're doing normal things. We're providing those
12:19
Speaker 7: things for kids to make it a good blend of
12:23
Speaker 7: being schooled at home in the safety of their own environment,
12:27
Speaker 7: while still being provided what they could expect with the
12:30
Speaker 7: socialization and in person events. And where can people learn

Speaker 4: or if you have an MEC ticket, then you can
16:32
Speaker 4: go to the Dirty Birds game for free later tonight.
16:35
Speaker 4: So it's really nice to deal that we have going
16:37
Speaker 4: with MEC. It's always a really fun tournament. I think
16:40
Speaker 4: we have a five year contract with them, so it's
16:41
Speaker 4: a really good partnership.
16:43
Speaker 5: And that's a lot of baseball going on in one
16:44
Speaker 5: day in one place, right, or a couple of days,
16:46
Speaker 5: I guess, right.
16:46
Speaker 2: Oh yeah, yep.
16:48
Speaker 4: I we have twenty home games in May plus the
16:51
Speaker 4: MEC tournament, so it's a lot of baseball going on.
16:53
Speaker 4: But that's that's what we're here for. That. We love
16:55
Speaker 4: that we can have this kind of tournament for the community.
16:58
Speaker 4: And that's the beauty of turf where we don't have
17:00
Speaker 4: to redrag the field all day.
17:03
Speaker 5: I thought about that because when I used to schedule you,
17:05
Speaker 5: and even people that were there before you, and Jay
17:08
Speaker 5: Silverman and all these people on the show, they would
17:10
Speaker 5: set to say, well, we got to keep an eye
17:11
Speaker 5: because we may have to do a tart poll as
17:14
Speaker 5: you called it. Right. I guess those days are gone though,
17:16
Speaker 5: right all right, he.
17:17
Speaker 12: Exactly, Joe.
17:18
Speaker 5: I appreciate you being here No, As I said, you
17:19
Speaker 5: got things to do, so I appreciate you being here
17:21
Speaker 5: and good luck with everything. We'll talk again soon, absolutely,
17:25
Speaker 5: Steve I, Jill Gearin from the Dirty Birdge, your hometown
17:28
Speaker 5: baseball team, Dave Island Show, and five Dyeline brought to

17:40
Speaker 5: fitness dot Com from Order Tales a million nicely from
17:42
Speaker 5: West Virginia watches here. How you doing, I'm good?
17:44
Speaker 7: How are you so sure?
17:46
Speaker 5: First appearance with me here, But you were on the
17:49
Speaker 5: show in the studio a couple days.
17:50
Speaker 13: Ago, right, yes, with TJ and David. It looks great
17:52
Speaker 13: in here. I'm really happy for y'all.
17:54
Speaker 5: Well, we're great. We're happy as well. And enjoy it
17:56
Speaker 5: because this is way it's going to look seventy years
17:58
Speaker 5: from now.
17:59
Speaker 13: But them on Monday or Tuesday whatever did it was
18:02
Speaker 13: like I was in here when it was a construction zone. Yes,
18:04
Speaker 13: so it is really cool to see how far it's got.
18:06
Speaker 5: One of the cool things was when they were doing
18:08
Speaker 5: this was I walked in. We were already in the basement.
18:10
Speaker 5: I call it the basement. We were down downstairs and
18:14
Speaker 5: I walk in, and if you've ever seen Big Bang Theory,
18:16
Speaker 5: how the how the elevator always says a police tape
18:19
Speaker 5: on it. Not only did this room have police tape
18:22
Speaker 5: on it, but it also was sealed. And I was saying,
18:25
Speaker 5: I probably don't want to know. But in a couple
18:28
Speaker 5: of days we got the all clear. So it's all good.
18:30
Speaker 13: I've worked in a few newsrooms that probably needed that
18:33
Speaker 13: crime tape over it.
18:35
Speaker 5: What are you writing about these days? Let's start with
18:38
Speaker 5: let's start with vaccines. So, uh, that's been a I
18:41
Speaker 5: mean that's been It's been very much in the news,
18:44
Speaker 5: and I know you've been covering a lot with that,
18:45
Speaker 5: so just generic topic.
18:47
Speaker 4: Sure.
18:48
Speaker 13: So something I'm efforting this week is looking at how
18:52
Speaker 13: private schools are going to respond to the governor's executive
18:56
Speaker 13: order of mandating religious exemptions to vaccines. So I believe
19:01
Speaker 13: you've talked on the show about what happened last week
19:03
Speaker 13: with the governor kind of coming in with the public
19:05
Speaker 13: schools and mandating that they comply. I talked to the
19:10
Speaker 13: Catholic school system, the Diocese out of Charleston, Wheeling earlier
19:13
Speaker 13: this week, they are saying we are not going to comply.
19:16
Speaker 13: They operate twenty four schools around the state. I've left
19:19
Speaker 13: messages with a number of religious Christian schools. We have
19:22
Speaker 13: several here in the Canau Valley. Haven't heard back. Hearing
19:26
Speaker 13: mixed messages behind the scenes. Some may comply, some may not.
19:30
Speaker 13: But I think ultimately we're going to see this issue
19:33
Speaker 13: end up in court because I agree, yeah, the executive
19:36
Speaker 13: order does not allow a carve out for these religious
19:39
Speaker 13: or private schools to set their own vaccine policies.
19:41
Speaker 14: We had seen that.
19:42
Speaker 13: In some versions of the bill that didn't pass to
19:44
Speaker 13: allow religious exemptions. So, you know, I think at this
19:48
Speaker 13: point it's just a question of where and when the
19:50
Speaker 13: lawsuit comes from. Is it going to be the Catholic
19:53
Speaker 13: school system or private schools. Will it be a public
19:55
Speaker 13: school system suing, or will it be a parent who's
19:58
Speaker 13: trying to use religious exemption and it isn't being given
20:02
Speaker 13: that ability. And we've also talked to my coworkers, and
20:05
Speaker 13: I have talked to private daycares who are saying we
20:08
Speaker 13: also won't comply. I mean, daycares really haven't been a
20:11
Speaker 13: part of this conversation, but they are a part of
20:12
Speaker 13: that executive order, and so they're being forced to also
20:16
Speaker 13: make decisions about how they will respond. And daycares are
20:20
Speaker 13: serving children who can't be fully vaccinated under the CDC schedule, right,
20:24
Speaker 13: and so yeah, I think it's just a matter of
20:26
Speaker 13: when and where this lawsuit comes from.
20:29
Speaker 5: It's it's interesting.
20:30
Speaker 2: It was.
20:31
Speaker 5: It was an interesting forty eight twelve let's say, twenty
20:33
Speaker 5: four to forty eight hours on Friday. Yeah, because you know,
20:36
Speaker 5: the state school superintendent Michelle Blatt, issued a statement and
20:41
Speaker 5: it was rescinded, and it was kind of a back
20:44
Speaker 5: and forth between the two I had on the On
20:47
Speaker 5: the Network show earlier this week. Delegate Kathy Hess Krause,
20:51
Speaker 5: who is a staunch opponent I don't let me, let
20:54
Speaker 5: me be fair to delicate Krause, I don't want to
20:56
Speaker 5: say she's a staunch opponent of vaccines. I think she's
20:58
Speaker 5: more of a opponent of parental choice. Yes, and that's
21:04
Speaker 5: a better way to put it. I mean, she's not
21:05
Speaker 5: anti vaccine. Well, maybe she is a little bit.
21:08
Speaker 14: Well her at least.
21:10
Speaker 13: Her statement that she put out to the media was
21:13
Speaker 13: supporting the executive order and really saying that. She called
21:17
Speaker 13: Superintendent Blatt a bureaucrat. It said she doesn't have power.
21:20
Speaker 2: To supers to.
21:20
Speaker 5: It is bullying. Yeah, that the Yeah, the supert was bullying.
21:24
Speaker 13: She's in the minority in her thinking. Though most lawmakers
21:28
Speaker 13: I've talked to, Republican and Democrat, feel that the executive
21:32
Speaker 13: order does not have the legal standing that the governor
21:35
Speaker 13: thinks it has, and that you know, the law's the law.
21:38
Speaker 13: Lawmakers did not pass this vaccine exemption law was voted
21:41
Speaker 13: down in the House of Delegates, and right now the
21:44
Speaker 13: law's law, so doesn't it.
21:46
Speaker 5: And I brought this up on the Network show and again,
21:48
Speaker 5: and we're talking with Amelia Nicley from West Virginia. Watch
21:51
Speaker 5: is it just me or does it seem like we're
21:53
Speaker 5: seeing more and more of this where the voters say
21:57
Speaker 5: one thing on one particular topic, and then maybe the
22:01
Speaker 5: legislature says something, but then one of these groups, like
22:05
Speaker 5: you know, or one of these individuals, be it the
22:07
Speaker 5: governor being the legislature, come in and they say, well,
22:10
Speaker 5: we're going to do this anyway. And we saw that
22:13
Speaker 5: not related to vaccines, but we saw it with with
22:16
Speaker 5: things in the legislature this year. I mean, is it
22:19
Speaker 5: my imagination, Amelia, or are we seeing more of that?
22:21
Speaker 13: I think we are seeing more of that. We're certainly
22:23
Speaker 13: seeing more executive orders, both in Washington, DC and under
22:27
Speaker 13: this governor, right, so that that is part of it. Yeah,
22:31
Speaker 13: I think I would say that's a pretty fair characterization
22:33
Speaker 13: of the legislature. You know, you you see bills where
22:36
Speaker 13: people people come and speak and you get emails from
22:38
Speaker 13: constituents who say, we do not want this, we do
22:40
Speaker 13: not want this, this will harm people, and they're like, well,
22:43
Speaker 13: we're gonna do it anyway. And that's always happened, but
22:46
Speaker 13: it does seem to be But I do think what
22:50
Speaker 13: you raise a good point that is relevant to this
22:52
Speaker 13: vaccine bill.
22:53
Speaker 14: I would say, of all the bills in.
22:55
Speaker 13: Session, the one that seemed to have the most I'm
22:58
Speaker 13: gonna call it democratic flow, the democratic process was this
23:02
Speaker 13: vaccine bill. Because we saw Republicans in the House who
23:05
Speaker 13: had supported it come back for the vote and stand
23:08
Speaker 13: up and say, I listen to my constituents. While I
23:11
Speaker 13: may support this, I have to err on what my
23:14
Speaker 13: constituents are telling me to do it.
23:15
Speaker 14: I'm going to vote no.
23:16
Speaker 5: And on that concept, and that's really.
23:18
Speaker 14: How that bill failed.
23:20
Speaker 13: It wasn't pressure from medical professionals, in my opinion, it
23:23
Speaker 13: was pressure from constituents.
23:24
Speaker 5: And again West Virginia, and I could pick on my
23:28
Speaker 5: home state a little bit. I know you're a native
23:29
Speaker 5: West Virginia as well, but you know, sometimes we don't
23:32
Speaker 5: do everything right in the state, and we don't have
23:34
Speaker 5: a I think we have a lot to be proud of,
23:36
Speaker 5: but maybe we have some things that, like most states,
23:38
Speaker 5: that we're not so proud of. One of the things
23:40
Speaker 5: that I feel personally this is me talking that we
23:44
Speaker 5: do an exemplary job of is vaccinations for kids. I
23:49
Speaker 5: mean we're in the top depending on what metric you
23:50
Speaker 5: look at, what study, we're in the top three or four.
23:53
Speaker 2: Yeah.
23:53
Speaker 5: But now a Delegate Cross, who I had on the
23:55
Speaker 5: show the other day would respond to that by saying,
23:57
Speaker 5: but we're also one of the least healthiest state.
24:02
Speaker 14: Yes, that's true.
24:03
Speaker 13: I also think an interesting point to bring up is
24:05
Speaker 13: that we're actually one of the worst for childhood vaccinations
24:08
Speaker 13: until kids get to school. Yeah, because we have Yeah,
24:11
Speaker 13: we have a lot of We have a rural health
24:14
Speaker 13: care system, a very fragmented healthcare system, a high rate
24:16
Speaker 13: of poverty.
24:18
Speaker 14: Lots of kids.
24:19
Speaker 13: Don't see pediatrician for a well visit, work or get
24:23
Speaker 13: their their required amusations until they show up for kindergarten.
24:27
Speaker 14: And you know, that's something to think about too.
24:30
Speaker 5: And I wonder we taught we we toeut this high
24:33
Speaker 5: level of vaccination among kids. I wonder if it were
24:37
Speaker 5: not required in schools, how many of the parents would
24:42
Speaker 5: would do it? And I'm going to say the number
24:44
Speaker 5: would be pretty low. I mean, that's just I have
24:46
Speaker 5: no nothing to but to base that on other than
24:49
Speaker 5: just my my thought. I think I think it probably
24:51
Speaker 5: would be pretty low.
24:51
Speaker 14: You would say, yeah, I don't that's a good question.
24:54
Speaker 13: I'm not sure to be honest, because we've just been
24:57
Speaker 13: in such a situation where it's been so strict, right,
25:00
Speaker 13: But yeah, I mean, as far, I think it is
25:01
Speaker 13: safe to say lots of some parents would not access
25:05
Speaker 13: health care for other child if it weren't for these
25:07
Speaker 13: mandated vaccines. And those vaccines are given in well visits
25:10
Speaker 13: that can catch other issues with children. So I think
25:13
Speaker 13: that's safe to say, is that things would slipped through
25:14
Speaker 13: the cracks if we didn't have children going to these
25:16
Speaker 13: mand aid appointments.
25:18
Speaker 5: One thing I did not realize in Delegate cross Brough,
25:21
Speaker 5: I'm talking an awful lot about somebody who's not in
25:23
Speaker 5: studio to defend her something. I'm just saying what she
25:25
Speaker 5: said on the show. She talked about the number of
25:30
Speaker 5: vaccines that kids get now as opposed to what they
25:32
Speaker 5: did twenty thirty years ago, and the numbers have gone up.
25:37
Speaker 5: That's troubling to some people. Yeah, you would.
25:40
Speaker 13: Say, yeah, I understand that. I mean, I'm a parent
25:42
Speaker 13: of three kids. I have one child who is still
25:45
Speaker 13: in the middle of getting her vaccinations. You have to
25:48
Speaker 13: make the best decision for your child. I have talked
25:51
Speaker 13: to multiple doctors, talked to health perhaps, so I get it.
25:54
Speaker 13: I am working through all these things just like any
25:56
Speaker 13: other parent, right. And I had very small babies during
25:59
Speaker 13: the endemic and had to think through with my family
26:02
Speaker 13: about vaccinating my own children for COVID RTE a new vaccine,
26:05
Speaker 13: and having a baby. So and I made the decision
26:09
Speaker 13: to get vaccinateing for COVID when I was pregnant. So
26:12
Speaker 13: I think like I've had to think through all these
26:14
Speaker 13: things just like any other parent. And I always appreciate
26:18
Speaker 13: the opportunity to speak to Delegate Krause, and she was
26:20
Speaker 13: really kind to me on Monday and connected me with
26:24
Speaker 13: the West Virginia Health Freedom Group, and I was able
26:26
Speaker 13: to get that perspective. And so I really try to
26:29
Speaker 13: take in all sides of any issue.
26:30
Speaker 14: And one thing I will say, you.
26:32
Speaker 13: Know, a lot of parents are concerned about their children
26:35
Speaker 13: going to school with children who maybe.
26:38
Speaker 14: Are not vaccinated.
26:39
Speaker 13: We also have parents on the other side of the
26:40
Speaker 13: issue who now have already used the religious exemption close
26:43
Speaker 13: to two hundred roughly, who are concerned that come fall,
26:47
Speaker 13: their child's going to be kicked out of school if
26:49
Speaker 13: this is overturned. So that's why I think it is
26:52
Speaker 13: and needs to probably go in the court system sooner
26:54
Speaker 13: rather than later, because you've got parents on both sides
26:56
Speaker 13: that are like, what's happening?
26:58
Speaker 5: Talking to Amelia nicely from West Virginia. Watch a Dave
27:00

27:08
Speaker 5: While we're talking about the young'uns, let's talk about headstart. Yeah,
27:12
Speaker 5: we spent We've spent a lot of time on the
27:15
Speaker 5: various shows, there were a lot of people a little
27:18
Speaker 5: nervous about the funding cuts to Headstart. It doesn't look
27:23
Speaker 5: like that's going to happen now, at least like we thought, Yeah,
27:27
Speaker 5: what do you think?
27:28
Speaker 2: Yeah?
27:28
Speaker 13: Absolutely, So I was able to confirm with Senator Capito
27:32
Speaker 13: Capitol's office earlier this week that the proposed budget under
27:37
Speaker 13: President Trump does include funding for Headstart.
27:39
Speaker 14: As you said, this was a concern.
27:41
Speaker 13: It was reported by multiple national outlets, and Headstart directors
27:46
Speaker 13: were telling me, we're very concerned about our future of
27:48
Speaker 13: our program under this budget, and so that was great news.
27:51
Speaker 13: I am pretty sure I was the first reporter in
27:54
Speaker 13: the country to be able to confirm it with their senator,
27:58
Speaker 13: which was great.
27:58
Speaker 14: And I like, I don't mean is like Applaus to me.
28:00
Speaker 14: I just I'm thankful that.
28:01
Speaker 5: I'll applaud you.
28:02
Speaker 13: No, No, I just I'm thankful that Senator Capita was
28:04
Speaker 13: willing to say that, because this has been something I've
28:07
Speaker 13: received more emails about than anything in a long time.
28:10
Speaker 13: People are very concerned about the future of this program.
28:12
Speaker 13: Now that being said, while it does include funding, they
28:16
Speaker 13: have already taken a budget cut. President Trump has laid
28:20
Speaker 13: off I think two hundred head Start employees and cut
28:24
Speaker 13: some regional offices, and that is already affecting West Virginia.
28:28
Speaker 13: We've had delays in grants, We've had communication issues, and
28:31
Speaker 13: so I don't want to paint the picture that everything
28:34
Speaker 13: is good to go. But having this funding secured in
28:37
Speaker 13: the upcoming budget, should Congress approve, it was really welcome news.
28:41
Speaker 13: And the director of head Start told me she was
28:42
Speaker 13: really relieved to see that.
28:44
Speaker 5: It just seems I don't know, can I editorialize with you?
28:49
Speaker 14: You don't you We did just talk about vaccines, So absolutely.
28:51
Speaker 5: You don't have to jump in on this if you
28:53
Speaker 5: don't want to. But I was having a conversation with
28:54
Speaker 5: somebody earlier and when you see all of these concerns,
29:00
Speaker 5: and I'm saying this not as Dave Allen media host
29:03
Speaker 5: or whatever. I'm just saying this is Dave Allen, tax
29:05
Speaker 5: pay citizen. When you see all of these cuts, and
29:09
Speaker 5: Niosh is a good example of that. I would like
29:13
Speaker 5: to see a little bit more from our elected representatives.
29:18
Speaker 5: And I know Senator Capito, I know Senator Justice, I
29:20
Speaker 5: know Governor Morrissey, I know Congressman Riley Moore was out
29:23
Speaker 5: with the statement I think sometime during the overnight hours
29:26
Speaker 5: about what's going on with with cliffs and and we'll
29:30
Speaker 5: talk about that a little bit later on. I just
29:34
Speaker 5: would like, if they're that concerned about it, Imagine if
29:38
Speaker 5: you will, a world where Governor Morrissey, Senator Capitol, Senator Justice, Uh,
29:45
Speaker 5: the congressional folks Miller and Riley Moore, they they do
29:49
Speaker 5: a joint statement and they say, President Trump, we are
29:53
Speaker 5: very concerned about what's going on in West Virginia with
29:56
Speaker 5: these cuts, Niosh being an example, Let's pump the brakes
30:01
Speaker 5: here a little bit.
30:01
Speaker 6: Now.
30:01
Speaker 5: They've all said something, you know, to an extent here
30:04
Speaker 5: and there in different interviews and different statements saying, you
30:07
Speaker 5: know that. When we had Jim Justice, Senator Justice on
30:10
Speaker 5: the show, he talked about mowing too close to the
30:12
Speaker 5: fence and things of that nature. And I get that.
30:15
Speaker 5: I I think though it would be in my opinion,
30:19
Speaker 5: just my opinion, it would behoove them to put out
30:23
Speaker 5: some sort of a group statement. However, in West Virginia,
30:28
Speaker 5: that ain't happening. And I think you probably would agree
30:30
Speaker 5: with that. They're not going to do that because of
30:33
Speaker 5: the allegiance and the almost almost cult like following that
30:39
Speaker 5: Donald Trump has in West Regia, it would be political
30:41
Speaker 5: suicide editorial by me just throwing it out.
30:44
Speaker 13: Do you think can I pose a question back to
30:46
Speaker 13: you though? Do you think it is political suicide? Though
30:48
Speaker 13: at this point when hundreds of jobs have been cut,
30:51
Speaker 13: there's a great story out in CBS News this morning
30:54
Speaker 13: about coal miners in West Virginia not being able to access.
30:57
Speaker 14: Black lung screamings.
30:58
Speaker 13: Right, if the head start fund and cuts do end
31:00
Speaker 13: up going through, I agree with what you satisfy as
31:03
Speaker 13: the allegiance, and we're probably not going to see that.
31:05
Speaker 13: But I keep wondering, and I think my fellow reporters
31:07
Speaker 13: and I are wondering what might tip over. And I've
31:10
Speaker 13: had conversations with people about does this affect the ballots
31:15
Speaker 13: in two years in West Virginia? No? Maybe not, but
31:20
Speaker 13: but will it may be in like a Morgantown or
31:22
Speaker 13: a Wheeling where there severe job loss.
31:24
Speaker 14: No, you don't think so. No, it's just interesting, and I.
31:27
Speaker 5: Don't I have pose this question to a lot of
31:30
Speaker 5: hardcore Trump supporters, and I said, and I've said it,
31:34
Speaker 5: and I've never gotten an answer yet. What would it take?
31:37
Speaker 13: Now?
31:37
Speaker 5: I've had one person that, and I appreciate the texture
31:39
Speaker 5: that said, well, that'd have to start acting like Joe Biden.
31:43
Speaker 5: Interesting answer. I don't think it matters. I honestly don't.
31:47
Speaker 5: I had a text of the Network show yesterday where
31:49
Speaker 5: somebody said I voted for Trump and I supported him.
31:52
Speaker 5: I do not support what's going on with Niosh. It's
31:55
Speaker 5: one person. Yeah, I mean I you know your your
31:59
Speaker 5: social media, you're active on social media. I'm active on
32:01
Speaker 5: social media.
32:03
Speaker 13: I know.
32:04
Speaker 5: The attitudes that I get is it's Donald Trump, and
32:06
Speaker 5: god forbid we say anything negative about Donald Trump and
32:08
Speaker 5: West Virginia, especially if you're acted official. Would it be
32:11
Speaker 5: political suicide for those folks I mentioned to do it
32:14
Speaker 5: West Virginia. Absolutely absolutely.
32:17
Speaker 14: It is interesting. I reached out to.
32:21
Speaker 13: Miller and Moore and Senator Justice as well for this
32:24
Speaker 13: head Start story and didn't hear anything back.
32:27
Speaker 14: And you know, it just you keep wondering.
32:30
Speaker 13: Even if they just get back to you and say
32:31
Speaker 13: they support President Trump's efforts, fine, but it's just often
32:35
Speaker 13: that we don't even hear anything back when you're trying
32:37
Speaker 13: to figure out Yeah, and it's been interesting for me
32:40
Speaker 13: in my career. This is one of the first times
32:42
Speaker 13: that I've really had really what is happening in DC
32:44
Speaker 13: is having immediate impacts on West Virginia. DC can feel
32:48
Speaker 13: so far away. I prefer to focus my energy on
32:51
Speaker 13: the State House because those laws affect.
32:53
Speaker 4: He every day life.
32:54
Speaker 13: Now you can stand on a motorcycle, right like, that's
32:56
Speaker 13: a law that we just signed. So but this has
32:59
Speaker 13: been a really exhausting phase of my career having to
33:04
Speaker 13: also keep up with what's going on in DC because
33:06
Speaker 13: it's it's really having immediate impacts on services for West
33:09
Speaker 13: virgin and families and children.
33:10
Speaker 5: So all right, what are you covering over the next

37:48

37:52
Speaker 5: the airport Director and CEO of West Virginia International Yeager
37:55
Speaker 5: Airport here in the capital city joins US now Dominique.
37:58
Speaker 5: How was day one?
38:00
Speaker 18: Good morning, Dave, thanks for having me back. Day one
38:03
Speaker 18: was actually pretty smooth. So at our checkpoint here at CRW,
38:08
Speaker 18: we only had about nine or ten folks show up
38:10
Speaker 18: with non compliant IDs. They were able to go through
38:14
Speaker 18: that extra screening and make it to their flights on time.
38:18
Speaker 18: But today's a different story. We're expecting yesterday we had
38:21
Speaker 18: about five hundred and forty passengers through the checkpoint. Today
38:24
Speaker 18: we're expecting eight hundred and fifty passengers boarding flights today.
38:30
Speaker 18: So I still encourage everyone coming to the airport to
38:33
Speaker 18: show up early and bring their patients.
38:36
Speaker 5: And you know, there was We've been talking about this,
38:41
Speaker 5: you know for what decades? What year was it that
38:44
Speaker 5: this was We knew this was going to be a
38:46
Speaker 5: thing two thousand and five. This has been out there
38:49
Speaker 5: since two thousand and five. And I was just talking
38:52
Speaker 5: to somebody in the hall earlier who said that their
38:55
Speaker 5: mother was told in church that if they did not
38:58
Speaker 5: have a uh, the real idea, that they would not
39:02
Speaker 5: be allowed to drive. So wow, that's kind of where
39:05
Speaker 5: we are. You're not taking away the right to drive, right,
39:08
Speaker 5: you don't do that, Dominate Grant.
39:10
Speaker 18: So the demon, the State of West Virginia and the
39:15
Speaker 18: federal government is not taking away your drives, your right
39:18
Speaker 18: to drive. You don't have to have a real ID
39:20
Speaker 18: to drive. The real ID is required for flying domestically
39:24
Speaker 18: in the United States and for getting into federal buildings
39:28
Speaker 18: as well as nuclear power plants. If you haven't planned
39:31
Speaker 18: nuclear power plants anytimeszoo.
39:33
Speaker 5: It's like you saw my calendar about what I was
39:35
Speaker 5: going to do this afternoon. I was I'm gonna, I
39:37
Speaker 5: was just gonna, I'm just gonna get the boys in
39:39
Speaker 5: the office and the girls and say let's go to
39:40
Speaker 5: a nuclear power plant because you never know, you never
39:44
Speaker 5: know when you're gonna need one. So so everything everything
39:47
Speaker 5: ran smoothly as you said no, no, major issues. But uh,
39:52
Speaker 5: do you anticipate any with with more with more flight
39:55
Speaker 5: volume as we go into the weekends.
39:57
Speaker 18: That's right, With more passengers needing to get through that checkpoint,
40:01
Speaker 18: the likelihood of someone not having a real ID increases.
40:05
Speaker 18: The odds just increase. Those people have to go through
40:08
Speaker 18: extra screening to get to their flights, so it could
40:11
Speaker 18: slow down that checkpoint flow. So that's why we're just
40:14
Speaker 18: cautioning passengers. You know, here at or West Virginia International
40:18
Speaker 18: Yeager Airport, we have the luxury of having a very
40:21
Speaker 18: very quick ticketing and TSA process, but we can't take
40:27
Speaker 18: that for granted during this transition to real ID. We
40:30
Speaker 18: have to show up a little bit early just in case.
40:34
Speaker 18: Like I said, the TSA checkpoint has stacked up so
40:37
Speaker 18: that they have extra people to help with that extra screening,
40:40
Speaker 18: and we are trying to create two different lines so
40:43
Speaker 18: that those that have their real ID can perceive about
40:46
Speaker 18: being slowed down. But like I said, this is eight
40:50
Speaker 18: hundred and fifty passengers today and even more on Saturday
40:53
Speaker 18: and Sunday, So I still encourage people to come early.
40:57
Speaker 5: And what if they do have the real ID, I mean,
40:59
Speaker 5: they're just there are hopping a a flight. My wife's
41:01
Speaker 5: line from from Chicago into Charleston, and she's you know,
41:05
Speaker 5: she's got her she's she's had hers year. She's taken
41:07
Speaker 5: care of, okay. But anybody else that's taking care of
41:12
Speaker 5: they're good to go. Should they plan on arriving at
41:14
Speaker 5: the airport just a little bit early if they're flying
41:15
Speaker 5: off the you know, Charlotte or wherever they're going today,
41:18
Speaker 5: should they Should they plan on being there just a
41:19
Speaker 5: little bit earlier if they're if they already have the
41:21
Speaker 5: real ID.
41:22
Speaker 18: We do encourage it just because, like I said, our
41:25
Speaker 18: checkpoint has two lanes or trying to keep those two
41:29
Speaker 18: lanes designated, but if it gets really backed up, they're
41:32
Speaker 18: just going to try and screen as quickly as they
41:34
Speaker 18: can real ID or non real ID. So we're encouraging
41:38
Speaker 18: everyone to show up a little bit earlier than usual,
41:40
Speaker 18: and hopefully in the next couple of weeks that won't
41:43
Speaker 18: be as necessary because everyone will have gotten their real
41:47
Speaker 18: ID and be ready to go.
41:48

Speaker 5: get with us and get yourself read and contact the
46:00
Speaker 5: front desk. Hear go to the V one hundred website
46:02
Speaker 5: for that. Remember that, and again they're gonna start selling
46:06
Speaker 5: at eight o'clock, So if you've got stuff to sell,
46:08
Speaker 5: can't show up at eight o'clock and think you're gonna
46:10
Speaker 5: be able to sell. They start setting up around six
46:12
Speaker 5: fifteen in the morning, so you've got to get there early.
46:15
Speaker 5: You will not be allowed to set up if if
46:17
Speaker 5: you're rolling there at eight o'clock. Now, if you got
46:20
Speaker 5: stuff that you don't sell and you don't want to
46:23
Speaker 5: drag back home, Mountain Mission is actually going to be
46:26
Speaker 5: there with a truck on the lot to accept items
46:28
Speaker 5: that you may want to donate. Sometimes with the yard
46:29
Speaker 5: sale folks, they don't want to haul it back, so
46:32
Speaker 5: they'll be taking this Stephen Jenny again will be joining
46:35
Speaker 5: us on the show tomorrow to talk about it. The
46:37
Speaker 5: V one hundred yard Sale, the East End yard Sale
46:39
Speaker 5: also going on. I think I've got somebody scheduled to
46:41
Speaker 5: come on the show to talk about that tomorrow as well.
46:43
Speaker 5: But our event, the V one hundred yard Sale with
46:45
Speaker 5: our sister station V one hundred lately Saturday morning, eight
46:49
Speaker 5: till noon, something else. A couple other things I want
46:51
Speaker 5: to mention. I'll get back to the text line. May
46:53
Speaker 5: want to check out the folks at tops Off barbershop
46:55
Speaker 5: in Charleston today. That's over on Hail Street. They're involved
46:58
Speaker 5: with this group called Saint Baldric's who do some amazing
47:01
Speaker 5: things with kids in cancer and have been for like
47:04
Speaker 5: I think twenty five years or so. They have an
47:05
Speaker 5: event to celebrate it all. It's happening at Thomsoft barber
47:09
Speaker 5: Shop later today two twenty nine Hail Street, and you
47:12
Speaker 5: can probably check out their social media. I think they
47:14
Speaker 5: have more information on that, all right. That having been said,
47:17
Speaker 5: I told you I had a lot of stuff to
47:19
Speaker 5: get to the We spend some time on the show
47:22
Speaker 5: in the past talking about Hospice Care. It's a wonderful organization.
47:27
Speaker 5: The Hospice Care announce the opening of their Heart to
47:29
Speaker 5: Home charity shop. Now they're having a ribbon cutting for
47:32
Speaker 5: this new it's a new thrift store here in Charleston
47:35
Speaker 5: and it's happening today at two o'clock. It's located sixteen
47:38
Speaker 5: oh one Second Avenue, Suite A in Charleston, which is
47:41
Speaker 5: across from their lot. If you get a chance, stop
47:43
Speaker 5: by and check it out. The ribbon cutting again happening
47:45
Speaker 5: at two o'clock today for this new thrift store in
47:48
Speaker 5: Charleston benefiting hospice Care. It's their heart to Home charity
47:53
Speaker 5: shop sixteen o one Second Avenue, Suite A in Charleston.
47:59
Speaker 5: All right, let me get do some text here. Tex says,
48:02
Speaker 5: where was the calm and patience from the Magas when
48:05
Speaker 5: Biden was pulling the economy out of the first Trump
48:07
Speaker 5: and Douce slump? Trump gets as much patience and calm
48:10
Speaker 5: as Maga gave Biden. Texaid, I like how people complain
48:16
Speaker 5: about having to beate taxes for things that benefit the community,
48:18
Speaker 5: then go on to complain about how there's a lack
48:20
Speaker 5: of a community. Seems like a lot of West Virginians
48:23
Speaker 5: want hungry, unhealthy kids running around in lieu of keeping
48:27
Speaker 5: a few hundred bucks. I thought the majority of people
48:29
Speaker 5: in the state followed the teachings of Jesus. Jesus would
48:32
Speaker 5: be ashamed, says a Texter. Tex says, I'm waiting for
48:36
Speaker 5: someone called to federal jury duty and not having a
48:39
Speaker 5: real id what an excuse to get out of jury duty. Well,
48:43
Speaker 5: that's a that's a kind of a far stretch there
48:46
Speaker 5: to get out of jury duty just for that Texas
48:50
Speaker 5: Day for sellers from both the v one hundred and
48:51
Speaker 5: Easton yard sales who may have left over blanket's tous
48:54
Speaker 5: wash clubs, et cetera, please consider donating those items to
48:56
Speaker 5: the animal shelter. I mentioned that to the program director
48:59
Speaker 5: of V one hundred, mister Logan Scott, yesterday, and he's
49:02
Speaker 5: aware of it. Good ideas, So those folks up to
49:04
Speaker 5: the animal shelter can always, always, always use things like that.
49:10
Speaker 5: And there's a lot of folks that love animals but
49:12
Speaker 5: either can't take on anymore or living an opportunity or
49:15
Speaker 5: live in an area for one reason another where they
49:17
Speaker 5: can't adopt or foster. So yeah, there's other ways you
49:21
Speaker 5: can help, and that would be a good way. Coming
49:25
Speaker 5: up on tomorrow show, as I said, we're gonna spend
49:26
Speaker 5: some time talking about the V one hundred yard sales.
49:28
Speaker 5: Stephen Jenny will join us. Also, we're gonna have someone
49:31
Speaker 5: on to talk about the East End yard sale. There's
49:34
Speaker 5: gonna be a lot of yard sales going on throughout
49:36
Speaker 5: the Canal Valley this weekend. For sure. It's graduation upcoming
49:39
Speaker 5: for West Virginia States. President of WVS you, Eric Cage,
49:43
Speaker 5: will join us on the show tomorrow, plus and g
49:46
Speaker 5: Gillenwater from the Gannal Charleton Human Association with this week's
49:48
Speaker 5: Adopt Me Please pat of the Week. That is all
49:51
Speaker 5: coming up on tomorrow's show, TJ. Meadows is here.
49:55
Speaker 20: The wider question is how will tariffs and their effect
49:58
Speaker 20: on consumer comf and it's affect all of the art
50:01
Speaker 20: sales that are going on. That is the bigger question
50:05
Speaker 20: that we have to understand.
50:06
Speaker 5: Are you going to be showing up at the v
50:08
Speaker 5: one hundred yard sale giving a lecture on tariffs to
50:10
Speaker 5: people because I think you should. Well, I don't know
50:13
Speaker 5: if we're going to show up or I have a
50:14
Speaker 5: video series.
50:15
Speaker 20: We think about just putting it on a DVD and
50:16
Speaker 20: letting it play so people can come and go as
50:18
Speaker 20: they want.
50:18
Speaker 5: Well, it being like a yard sale and you know
50:22
Speaker 5: kind type setting it, maybe me want to put them
50:23
Speaker 5: on VHS. Yeah, Well we're hoping people would buy the
50:26
Speaker 5: beta too. Yeah you remember Beta. I was going to
50:30
Speaker 5: say a lot of people are probably wondering, Well, No,
50:33
Speaker 5: people that listen to the show probably know what I'm
50:34
Speaker 5: talking about. It was a big deal when you got
50:36
Speaker 5: your first VCR in then eighteen eighties, whether you got
50:39
Speaker 5: VHS or Beta, because VCRs were well over one thousand dollars. Yeah,
50:43
Speaker 5: I mean the first the first VCR that I didn't
50:45
Speaker 5: have one. My family didn't have one for a while,
50:47
Speaker 5: but the first one in our neighborhood was two thousand dollars.
50:50
Speaker 5: That was a nineteen eighty eighty one. It was two
50:54
Speaker 5: thousand dollars. And so you better make that decision wisely
50:58
Speaker 5: whether you want to get a VHS or Beta. Now,
51:00
Speaker 5: after a while, the price continued to go down, down
51:02
Speaker 5: and down.
51:02
Speaker 20: So if I think I was nine, maybe ten before
51:05
Speaker 20: cable TV was even available where we lived, you got
51:10
Speaker 20: the three big networks and a couple other channels like
51:12
Speaker 20: PBS and stuff.
51:13
Speaker 4: That was it.
51:14
Speaker 5: That's all you got. I had a texture. So could
51:17
Speaker 5: you have Brian Hughes on the mar to talk about
51:18
Speaker 5: the weather forecast on Saturday for the v one hundred
51:21
Speaker 5: east En Yards. It looks absolutely perfect, I can tell
51:23
Speaker 5: I don't need Brian Hughes for that. I'm looking forward
51:25
Speaker 5: to absolutely perfect because it'd be nice to have a weekend.
51:28
Speaker 5: Last weekend was brainy.
51:29
Speaker 2: I think the weekend before that was in we.
51:31
Speaker 5: Got storms on the prowl on the Kanawh Valley here
51:33
Speaker 5: today too, and you got caught in a big wood
51:35
Speaker 5: in South Charleston.
51:36
Speaker 20: I'm gonna tell you, man, I don't mind telling you.
51:38
Speaker 20: I was a little uncomfortable with that, just the sound
51:42
Speaker 20: and it's beating. My big thing was because I had
51:44
Speaker 20: nowhere to go. I actually thought might crack the glass
51:48
Speaker 20: of mess up that pretty face what you got on
51:51
Speaker 20: the show today. So Chris Lawrence joins us at ten
51:53
Speaker 20: oh six. Latest on that lawsuit for injunction yesterday with
51:56
Speaker 20: Niosh ten thirty three, Ryan weld Brook cownt Senator on
52:00
Speaker 20: Cleveland Cliffs and not moving forward with that transformer plants.
52:03
Speaker 2: Hoppy's in at eleven oh six. He's fired up.
52:06
Speaker 20: He's got a commentary today at wv okay Metronews dot com.
52:09
Speaker 5: We'll get into all that plus more. All right, what's
52:11
Speaker 5: Hoppy opining about? I haven't read it this morning.
52:14
Speaker 20: So he's not down with the Governor's executive order on vaccines.
52:18
Speaker 20: He lays out a six point case six point not
52:21
Speaker 20: six point not three, not two, not six point six
52:24
Speaker 20: point case.
52:24
Speaker 5: All right, he'll be on the show today. I'll be
52:26
Speaker 5: back with the Metro News Midday powered by Selango, Law
52:28
Speaker 5: thirteen News and Tonight Live anchor Manda Baron, and I
52:30
Speaker 5: will be with you coming up noon to three on
52:33
Speaker 5: this and other Metro news stations. Back on this show
52:35
Speaker 5: tomorrow till then, have fun. I Love Somebody.
52:53
