- 0:05Speaker 1: NFL Now is a production of the NFL in partnership
- 0:08Speaker 1: with iHeartRadio, and the way is almost over. We are
- 0:21Speaker 1: one hour away from the first players on the field
- 0:26Speaker 1: in Indianapolis. It's officially not that the last couple of
- 0:29Speaker 1: days haven't been fun. Day one of the twenty twenty
- 0:33Speaker 1: three edition of the NFL Scouting Combine Lucas Oil Stadium
- 0:37Speaker 1: will have the d lineman and the linebackers on the field,
- 0:41Speaker 1: where a couple of days away from a great tight
- 0:44Speaker 1: end class. Daniel Jeremiah says it might be the best
- 0:47Speaker 1: tight end class in a decade, as those guys get
- 0:52Speaker 1: ready a little bit later to show what they have
- 0:55Speaker 1: for the next level for these head coaches and talent evaluators,
- 0:59Speaker 1: all of whom are here and filing into Lucas Oil
- 1:03Speaker 1: for night number one of the twenty twenty three NFL
- 1:08Speaker 1: Scouting Combine. It's with that we welcome you in to
- 1:12Speaker 1: Luca Soil for another hour here of our Combine coverage.
- 1:16Speaker 1: This is NFL Now Live with the Combine Andrews Ciciliano
- 1:20Speaker 1: and our NFL Network insider, the interapt Or. Time to
- 1:24Speaker 1: get this show on the road. Yeah, you know where
- 1:28Speaker 1: we are in the concourse obviously, the fields behind us
- 1:30Speaker 1: and in front of us, basically into the cameras where
- 1:33Speaker 1: all the personnel people and coaches walk by going to
- 1:35Speaker 1: their suites. There's some excitement. Man, This is like I know,
- 1:39Speaker 1: it's it's an event and it's fun, but like it's
- 1:42Speaker 1: worked for them and they are anticipating and excited about
- 1:45Speaker 1: what they're going to see. And you know, especially some
- 1:47Speaker 1: of these big time defensive linemen getting ready to put
- 1:49Speaker 1: on a show for us. It is a very good
- 1:51Speaker 1: edge class, very good linebacker class. Will get a little
- 1:54Speaker 1: bit later into who you are going to see on
- 1:56Speaker 1: this field here tonight. You're not going to see your
- 1:59Speaker 1: workout from the guy that Daniel dj has as his
- 2:02Speaker 1: number one player, that is Jalen Carter, that if tackle
- 2:05Speaker 1: from Georgia. But the news here today is that Carter
- 2:09Speaker 1: is back in Indianapolis. He returned after yesterday going to Athens,
- 2:14Speaker 1: Georgia to turn himself in. He was booked by local
- 2:17Speaker 1: authorities there on two misdemeanor charges. He is alleged to
- 2:21Speaker 1: have been racing another car on the night of January fifteenth,
- 2:26Speaker 1: back in Athens. That car hit a curb, flipped a
- 2:29Speaker 1: teammate was killed also killed there a staffer for the
- 2:33Speaker 1: Georgia football team. But I and Jalen Carter has come
- 2:37Speaker 1: back to meet with teams, something that as we sat
- 2:39Speaker 1: at this desk yesterday we didn't necessarily think was in
- 2:43Speaker 1: the plan. Well, he has come back to He did
- 2:45Speaker 1: his medical yesterday, obviously, went to Athens, turned himself in,
- 2:50Speaker 1: was released, and now is back here. And it's not
- 2:53Speaker 1: just for his it's not just to do his medical.
- 2:56Speaker 1: That is essentially done and we'll see if he ends
- 2:58Speaker 1: up meeting with teams. Andrew he's going to be very visible.
- 3:01Speaker 1: As the defensive lineman are going to be doing drills
- 3:04Speaker 1: on the field, he will be there. He will be
- 3:06Speaker 1: supporting his teammates. Not going to work out the plan.
- 3:09Speaker 1: Remember initially was not to work out, so that is
- 3:12Speaker 1: going to continue to be the plan. But he is
- 3:14Speaker 1: going to be here cheering on his teammates and essentially
- 3:17Speaker 1: being president. And for Jalen Carter, I think it is
- 3:20Speaker 1: fair to say Andrew every single thing he does now
- 3:23Speaker 1: from here until the draft and through the draft is
- 3:26Speaker 1: going to be under a microscope. But he's not hiding
- 3:29Speaker 1: from it. He will be front center on camera. The
- 3:31Speaker 1: plan is still Georgia prote as we know it right now.
- 3:33Speaker 1: That's when he could work out which was the plan
- 3:35Speaker 1: coming in. We knew that Jaalen Carter would not be
- 3:38Speaker 1: on the field doing any drills this evening. You have
- 3:41Speaker 1: that story earlier in the week. All right, what's the
- 3:44Speaker 1: story and the latest on Lamar Jackson. We heard from
- 3:46Speaker 1: Eric da Costa yesterday at the GM. We heard from
- 3:49Speaker 1: John Harbaugh, the head coach, as well. Both seemed to
- 3:53Speaker 1: be optimistic, but I don't get a sense that they're
- 3:55Speaker 1: any closer to a deal now. I don't get that
- 3:57Speaker 1: sense either. Now. The optimism is good, and I think
- 3:59Speaker 1: the fact that there's been communication in person, communication meeting
- 4:02Speaker 1: with Lamar Jackson and Eric da Costa. And remember Lamaraxons
- 4:05Speaker 1: is not of an agent, so he is doing this
- 4:07Speaker 1: one on one with the general manager. You know, that
- 4:10Speaker 1: is all good. But what we are waiting on is
- 4:12Speaker 1: some sort of breakthrough it and the discussion has been well.
- 4:15Speaker 1: Obviously Lamar Jackson wants a fully guaranteed contract. We don't
- 4:19Speaker 1: even know that if that is still something he wants
- 4:22Speaker 1: right now. I don't get the sense he's backed off.
- 4:24Speaker 1: I'm just saying the communication between him and the Ravens
- 4:27Speaker 1: is fine. The communication between him and the outside world,
- 4:31Speaker 1: all of us, the media, his teammates, everyone else, the
- 4:34Speaker 1: NFLPA has been pretty spotty. He is private, he keeps
- 4:38Speaker 1: to himself. I think it's fair to say we don't
- 4:40Speaker 1: know what he wants. I think it's also fair to
- 4:42Speaker 1: say teams are monitoring, teams are watching, gonna be interested
- 4:46Speaker 1: to see if the Ravens give him the non exclusive
- 4:49Speaker 1: jack does someone come in and try to work out
- 4:51Speaker 1: a contract and pry him away from the Ravens for
- 4:54Speaker 1: the small price of two first round picks. Still a
- 4:57Speaker 1: lot to here. We know he's going to get tagged,
- 4:59Speaker 1: but still ought to be determined about what happens next,
- 5:02Speaker 1: right And for everyone saying pay Lamar, yes, obviously Lamar
- 5:04Speaker 1: jack and deserves. They're trying, well compensated, They're trying. If
- 5:08Speaker 1: they do not put the exclusive tag on him, as
- 5:10Speaker 1: you said, then Lamar Jackson has the ability to go
- 5:13Speaker 1: out there to see if the contract he wants would
- 5:17Speaker 1: be offered up by another team, and if that happens,
- 5:19Speaker 1: the entire football landscape in the offseason changes, because that
- 5:23Speaker 1: would be monumental optimism at all with the Giants and
- 5:28Speaker 1: their negotiations between with Daniel Jones. Joe Shane was on
- 5:32Speaker 1: GMFB in that chair this morning. What do we know? Yeah,
- 5:36Speaker 1: it certainly sounded like some optimism, and you know they're
- 5:39Speaker 1: not there yet. It's a tough negotiation. It's really a
- 5:41Speaker 1: difficult thing to figure out what is the price of
- 5:44Speaker 1: Daniel Jones obviously successful led a team to the playoffs.
- 5:47Speaker 1: Stats aren't there, but also didn't have any weapons besides
- 5:50Speaker 1: Sequon Barkley, who if they get a deal done, Barkley
- 5:52Speaker 1: will get tagged. So figuring out his price has been difficult.
- 5:58Speaker 1: But they're working at it several hours a day over
- 6:00Speaker 1: the last couple of days, back at it again today.
- 6:02Speaker 1: He has a new agency in athletes First, the Giants
- 6:06Speaker 1: have been working with them. Not around the clock, but
- 6:08Speaker 1: I would say a significant amount of hours the last
- 6:10Speaker 1: couple of days just to try to see can they
- 6:12Speaker 1: get this done before the tag deadline. Again, not there yet,
- 6:16Speaker 1: but maybe a little more optimism for the Giants than
- 6:19Speaker 1: save for the Ravens on themar Jackson and the real
- 6:20Speaker 1: headline from Joe Shane this morning on GMFB was that
- 6:23Speaker 1: they have spoken every day this week and with Dada
- 6:26Speaker 1: Jones representatives and again today trying to get a deal done.
- 6:31Speaker 1: March seventh is the deadline here to use a franchise
- 6:34Speaker 1: tag dron Pain in Washington, and you reported earlier Evan
- 6:37Speaker 1: Ingram likely coming in Jacksonville to two that we know
- 6:40Speaker 1: right now, Ian Rappaport, our NFL Network insider, thank you, sir.
- 6:44Speaker 1: Some sad news now to report is the Carolina Panthers
- 6:47Speaker 1: just announced that we have lost Jerry Richardson, their founder,
- 6:51Speaker 1: their former owner. Jerry Richardson was eighty six years old,
- 6:55Speaker 1: not just an NFL owner, but a player, a guy
- 6:57Speaker 1: who caught a touchdown pass from Johnny Unitas in the
- 6:59Speaker 1: nineteen fifty nine NFL Championship Game win. He founded the
- 7:04Speaker 1: team in nineteen ninety five, owned it through twenty seventeen,
- 7:09Speaker 1: won two NFC championships. The Panthers made the announcement within
- 7:15Speaker 1: the past hour. Jerry Richardson's contributions, David and Nicole Teppers
- 7:19Speaker 1: say to professional football and the Carolinas are historic. With
- 7:22Speaker 1: the arrival of the Panthers in ninety five, he changed
- 7:25Speaker 1: the landscape of sports in the region and gave the
- 7:28Speaker 1: NFL fans here a team to call their own. He
- 7:31Speaker 1: was incredibly gracious to me when I purchased the team,
- 7:34Speaker 1: David Tepper says, and for that, I am very thankful.
- 7:37Speaker 1: Nicole and I extend are deepest condolences to Rosalind, the
- 7:40Speaker 1: entire Richardson family and their loved ones. We wish them
- 7:45Speaker 1: much peace and comfort. Again. Jerry Richardson, the founder, the
- 7:49Speaker 1: original owner of the Carolina Panthers, was eighty six years old.
- 8:04Speaker 1: On strke Skyles Good. I'll tell him he's kind a
- 8:08Speaker 1: nice arm. Huh, it'll be Robinson. What a sweet move
- 8:12Speaker 1: to the second level and beyond touchdown. That's be Sean
- 8:16Speaker 1: Robinson to catch his made by Addison. He's so dangerous
- 8:19Speaker 1: to get joystick out there, the human joystick that is Madison.
- 8:22Speaker 1: He's got the distract due he loves to do. It's
- 8:25Speaker 1: a beautiful downfield broke trout buyers, man, it is grabbed
- 8:28Speaker 1: in the ends up CJ. Stroun. Wow, with the growth,
- 8:33Speaker 1: We're not going to see those playmakers on the field
- 8:35Speaker 1: until Saturday. We get the d line and the edge
- 8:37Speaker 1: guys and the linebackers coming up tonight, Day one of
- 8:40Speaker 1: the combine. NFL now live in Indianapolis, but that doesn't
- 8:42Speaker 1: mean with Cynthia Freeland or analytics expert high Cynthia Hi,
- 8:46Speaker 1: that we can't talk about those offensive playmakers today, which
- 8:49Speaker 1: is what we're gonna do. Cynthia, you do something called windshare.
- 8:51Speaker 1: In other words, I put a player on a team,
- 8:53Speaker 1: he's gonna have this kind of impact. Yep. So for
- 8:56Speaker 1: let's say Bryce Young, the Alabama quarterback, where would he
- 8:59Speaker 1: have that biggest immediate impact. Give me a good fit.
- 9:03Speaker 1: I like the Colts for him when I look to
- 9:05Speaker 1: see the fit with the coach and the staff and
- 9:07Speaker 1: what Bryce Young did at Alabama in his resume and
- 9:09Speaker 1: their ability to leverage play action quickly meaning soon, meaning
- 9:14Speaker 1: you can fold him in and not ask him to
- 9:15Speaker 1: do all these next level crazy Patrick Mahomes like throws.
- 9:19Speaker 1: Let him adjust to the speed of the NFL game
- 9:23Speaker 1: in a nice regular way. Don't ask him to be
- 9:26Speaker 1: crazy right for them. I don't want to compare anyone
- 9:29Speaker 1: to Patrick Mahomes. I just mentioned his name, and here's
- 9:32Speaker 1: my transition to Anthony Richardson, because if there's anyone in
- 9:35Speaker 1: this draft of the quarterback position that has that like
- 9:38Speaker 1: wow ability, I mean you've seen where he pump fakes
- 9:41Speaker 1: and he spins in the air and then he comes
- 9:43Speaker 1: back down and finds the guy in the back of
- 9:44Speaker 1: the anza. It's Anthony Richardson. Where's the fit for him? Well,
- 9:48Speaker 1: while I like Bryce Young's floor, I like Anthony Richardson's ceiling,
- 9:51Speaker 1: which means someplace that he could go where there's a
- 9:54Speaker 1: high ceiling. But he doesn't necessarily need to be the
- 9:56Speaker 1: starter day one the Detroit Lions. And that's interesting because
- 10:00Speaker 1: there are some great playmakers there on that offense. Also,
- 10:03Speaker 1: they need to be a bit more of a quick
- 10:04Speaker 1: stripe offense because they have some questions on defense. Probably
- 10:07Speaker 1: will address them hopefully in this offseason. But Richardson, he
- 10:11Speaker 1: might not be Day one safest floor. He's not Day
- 10:14Speaker 1: one safest floor, but his upside is absolutely there, and
- 10:17Speaker 1: leveraging a Monrossy Brown and all of their different pass
- 10:20Speaker 1: catchers would be good. He needs speed. And this isn't
- 10:23Speaker 1: just you projecting wishful thinking Lear. All of the Lions
- 10:27Speaker 1: brasses told me how like I'm a fan. They know
- 10:29Speaker 1: I'm a fan, but I'm very mean to them. I'm
- 10:31Speaker 1: probably the hardest on the Lions until she will's Anthony
- 10:36Speaker 1: Richardson there at pick eighteen, Bijean Robinson. Everyone a Greece
- 10:40Speaker 1: is the best running back here. Daniel Jeremiah says Bijean
- 10:42Speaker 1: could be a top five player. People don't like to
- 10:45Speaker 1: take running back top five anymore, say Quon the last
- 10:48Speaker 1: to do it. Give me a fit for him. Well,
- 10:50Speaker 1: a team that did take a top five running back
- 10:52Speaker 1: is Ekiel Elliott, who do no more guaranteed money and
- 10:55Speaker 1: has a very high salary number. Now, while I don't
- 10:58Speaker 1: necessarily think Jerry Jones will get rid of him, I
- 11:00Speaker 1: do actually think be John Robinson would make the most
- 11:03Speaker 1: sense as a Cowboy if you look to see what
- 11:05Speaker 1: he does really really well, super versatile, he is that
- 11:08Speaker 1: every down back and he had one hundred and four
- 11:10Speaker 1: forced miss tackles. That's for PFF and that's just one
- 11:14Speaker 1: metric that really illustrates, like, this is a guy who
- 11:16Speaker 1: you don't need an OI line to be as great
- 11:18Speaker 1: as we have seen the Cowboys oilne Be in the past.
- 11:21Speaker 1: But he's going to be able to get use those
- 11:22Speaker 1: extra yards. Those yards after contact are super important, and
- 11:25Speaker 1: his versatility in the pass catching game as well. Yeah,
- 11:28Speaker 1: the Cowboys pick twenty six Bijon Robinson is far better
- 11:30Speaker 1: than the twenty sixth overall player. But you never know
- 11:33Speaker 1: where running back can go. This is a special running back, however,
- 11:38Speaker 1: and you can go a lot higher than that. Jordan Addison,
- 11:41Speaker 1: some people have him as their number one receiver. Give
- 11:44Speaker 1: me a good fit for the kid at a usc
- 11:45Speaker 1: so one that was interesting was the Cardinals. Now he's
- 11:48Speaker 1: a good fit everywhere. The Giants are a good I
- 11:50Speaker 1: can name tons of teams that could really use his services.
- 11:52Speaker 1: But when I look to see the number that would
- 11:54Speaker 1: make the biggest impact this season, combining him on that
- 11:57Speaker 1: staff and allowing some I know Kyler Murray won't be
- 11:59Speaker 1: necessarily ready for the beginning of the season, but giving
- 12:01Speaker 1: him some more options that stretched the field and have
- 12:04Speaker 1: the versatility route running that Jordan Adison has, that would
- 12:07Speaker 1: be a really nice uptick for the Cardinals. I don't
- 12:10Speaker 1: necessarily think it's going to happen, but it is the
- 12:12Speaker 1: highest winchair of the achievable ones. Jordan Addison won the
- 12:15Speaker 1: bullet n the cough two years ago at pitt was
- 12:18Speaker 1: one of the first big nil guys to say, you
- 12:21Speaker 1: know what transfer portal, I am out of here. I
- 12:23Speaker 1: am going to us see him and Caleb Williams made
- 12:26Speaker 1: some magic last year, Caleb Williams won a Heisman Trophy.
- 12:30Speaker 1: Now Jordan Addison waits to find out fifty six days
- 12:32Speaker 1: from now where he will go in the NFL Draft.
- 12:41Speaker 1: We're getting closer and closer. About thirty five minutes away
- 12:44Speaker 1: from the drills. There the d linement of the linebackers
- 12:46Speaker 1: at Lucas Oil. Afterwards, please stick around, just block it
- 12:49Speaker 1: into the NFL Network eight o'clock Eastern tonight, a total
- 12:54Speaker 1: access wrap up as to what we see on the
- 12:58Speaker 1: field this evening. Finally, the drills are almost here night
- 13:02Speaker 1: number one. This is NFL Now Live of the com
- 13:04Speaker 1: by Live Lucas Oil. Andrews cciliano, our NFL Network insider
- 13:08Speaker 1: Tom Pellicero back with us as well, who has been
- 13:11Speaker 1: working the coffee shops and the steakhouses and the hotel
- 13:13Speaker 1: lobbies as we all have all week long. What are
- 13:16Speaker 1: you hearing about what we're going to see from this
- 13:17Speaker 1: group tonight? So he's gonna mention you very briefly. You
- 13:19Speaker 1: call me Daniel Jeremiah. In the last segment, his gigantic
- 13:22Speaker 1: head is actually right up on the screens behind you,
- 13:24Speaker 1: So maybe this is his voice and see it here.
- 13:27Speaker 1: It is the voice of God kind of sort, it
- 13:29Speaker 1: really is. Let's sten with Will Anderson Jr. It's not
- 13:31Speaker 1: always that you get the potential number one overall pick.
- 13:34Speaker 1: Who ends up working out in this setting is reiterated
- 13:36Speaker 1: to me. He fully intends to do drills. He's in
- 13:39Speaker 1: the linebacker group, but he also got requested by clubs
- 13:41Speaker 1: to do defensive end drills, so we'll get to see
- 13:43Speaker 1: him do a lot on the field. And then there's
- 13:45Speaker 1: that next group of edge guys. Tyree Wilson not participating here.
- 13:48Speaker 1: Just got out of a boot about a month ago
- 13:50Speaker 1: at a couple of fractured bones in his foot. Just
- 13:52Speaker 1: return to workouts a couple of weeks back. He gonna
- 13:54Speaker 1: do the bench press, but nothing on the field here.
- 13:56Speaker 1: So is this opportunity for Lucas van Ness to really
- 13:58Speaker 1: show out in front of the clubs from Ayoways and
- 14:00Speaker 1: Miles Murphy from Clemson. Who are is that next group
- 14:03Speaker 1: of edge guys that potentially could be calling up the boards?
- 14:06Speaker 1: Nobody can have enough pass for us. It's one of
- 14:08Speaker 1: the coveted positions in the entire NFL. All those guys
- 14:11Speaker 1: are going to be on display in a group next
- 14:13Speaker 1: to the other ones out here tonight. I want to
- 14:15Speaker 1: get back to Tyree Wilson just real quick. Here we
- 14:17Speaker 1: have the measurables now eighty four and a half on
- 14:19Speaker 1: the wingspan. That's an NBA wingspan. He told you. If
- 14:22Speaker 1: he does the bench with those long arms, he can
- 14:25Speaker 1: do how many reps? Twenty seven or twenty eight reps.
- 14:27Speaker 1: That's a long way for that bar to go. But
- 14:29Speaker 1: he's also that's the one thing he could do walking
- 14:31Speaker 1: around in a boot for a couple of months. There
- 14:33Speaker 1: wasn't get that lift in and or just like you. Yeah,
- 14:36Speaker 1: and for those needing the explanation, they're shorter arms, easier
- 14:39Speaker 1: on the bench, Longer arms more difficult on the bench,
- 14:42Speaker 1: says the guy with the shortest dunked on yourself there,
- 14:45Speaker 1: all right. Other news around the league, We are less
- 14:47Speaker 1: now less now than two weeks away from the start
- 14:50Speaker 1: of free agency. What is the latest in New Orleans
- 14:52Speaker 1: and in Vegas for that matter, with Alvin Kamara. Alvincamara
- 14:55Speaker 1: pleaded not guilty today to both charges he faces for
- 14:59Speaker 1: an alleged assault and battery that took place during Pro
- 15:02Speaker 1: Bowl week last year. Video came out through the course
- 15:06Speaker 1: of the week showing some of these scenes from that incident.
- 15:10Speaker 1: He faces a misdemeanor charge as well as a felony
- 15:14Speaker 1: charge of substantial bodily injury. He waved his right to
- 15:17Speaker 1: a speedy trial, which would have meant within the next
- 15:19Speaker 1: sixty days. That trial has now set for July thirty first,
- 15:22Speaker 1: which on the NFL calendar means the first week of
- 15:25Speaker 1: training camp. So we shall see now, is there a
- 15:27Speaker 1: possibility that he could end up taking a settlement to
- 15:30Speaker 1: resolve that case prior to training camp. If not, that
- 15:34Speaker 1: case potentially could take him away from training camp if
- 15:38Speaker 1: he in fact is if it remains on schedule and
- 15:40Speaker 1: there are no further delays to it. For now, the
- 15:42Speaker 1: NFL says that the status remains unchanged for Alvin Kamara.
- 15:46Speaker 1: They've not taken any steps in terms of the Commissioner's exemplists.
- 15:49Speaker 1: That's not uncommon. They continue to review all matters under
- 15:52Speaker 1: the Personal Conduct Policy, and potentially he could face a suspension.
- 15:56Speaker 1: We just don't know exactly when right, And the faster
- 15:58Speaker 1: you get this through the courts, then the faster you
- 16:00Speaker 1: get it to the league disciplined phase, and the faster
- 16:02Speaker 1: than the Saints and Alvin Kamara find out if he
- 16:06Speaker 1: misses and how many games he would miss as part
- 16:08Speaker 1: of that policy. Thank you Tom Pelso, our NFL network insider.
- 16:12Speaker 1: As we get ready for the first night of drills,
- 16:15Speaker 1: not only on the network here but on NFL Plus
- 16:18Speaker 1: as well, go sign up. It's going to be great
- 16:20Speaker 1: with players only at all kinds of behind the scenes
- 16:22Speaker 1: access plus dot NFL dot com plus dot NFL dot com.
- 16:25Speaker 1: It is my job to tell you that terms and
- 16:28Speaker 1: conditions apply. Go sign up now for NFL Plus. The
- 16:33Speaker 1: combine is presented by No Bowl and here's the schedule.
- 16:38Speaker 1: The d lineman of linebackers as mentioned about, to get
- 16:40Speaker 1: going in about thirty minutes on Friday. It is the
- 16:43Speaker 1: defensive backs. Saturday, the quarterbacks, the wytouts and the tight ends.
- 16:48Speaker 1: And then we will wrap up a one o'clock kickoff
- 16:51Speaker 1: on Sunday. Feels right for the old lineman and the
- 16:54Speaker 1: running backs. And that will wrap up a great week
- 16:57Speaker 1: here in Indianapolis that has had stuff on the field
- 17:00Speaker 1: starting this evening, but so much off the field. Like
- 17:04Speaker 1: for exam ample, the seventh annual NFL Women's Forum, which
- 17:08Speaker 1: wrapped up yesterday in Indianapolis. It connected forty one women
- 17:12Speaker 1: with leaders across professional football insight into different career paths
- 17:16Speaker 1: throughout the NFL. Among those speakers was the commissioner Roger Goodell.
- 17:22Speaker 1: I don't look at this as a numbers game. To me,
- 17:25Speaker 1: I look at this honestly as do we continue to
- 17:28Speaker 1: find opportunities for great people and to bring women into
- 17:32Speaker 1: positions that were not traditionally held by women. And that's
- 17:36Speaker 1: why this is such an important program, because it's really
- 17:39Speaker 1: just it hasn't been a position that was traditionally thought
- 17:42Speaker 1: of as filled by women. I was a training camp
- 17:45Speaker 1: intern with the New York jetson personnel and I knew
- 17:49Speaker 1: I wanted to coach, but this was an opportunity. Opportunity
- 17:51Speaker 1: you wanted to get in the NFL and two to
- 17:52Speaker 1: learn the game of football. And when I look back
- 17:55Speaker 1: on that, that's one of the greatest things that's ever
- 17:57Speaker 1: happened to me. The connections that I still have from
- 17:58Speaker 1: that organization, what I learned, and then the people that
- 18:01Speaker 1: were willing to speak for me in rooms that I
- 18:03Speaker 1: wasn't in when I did trend to coaching, unfortunate enough
- 18:06Speaker 1: to work in a great room with a great guy.
- 18:08Speaker 1: Randy Jordan is my running bass coach. And he gives
- 18:11Speaker 1: me responsibilities and if I'm not there, I know he
- 18:14Speaker 1: probably doesn't want to add it to his play and
- 18:15Speaker 1: have to do it because I try to do the best,
- 18:18Speaker 1: you know, the best job I can do each and
- 18:19Speaker 1: every week. I didn't hire the women because I have daughters.
- 18:22Speaker 1: I didn't hire the women because I have strong people
- 18:24Speaker 1: in my life that are females. I hired it because
- 18:27Speaker 1: they were good. They were excellently what they did, they
- 18:29Speaker 1: had a great interview and you know what they did
- 18:32Speaker 1: throughout the season was unbelievable, great stuff. They're certainly at
- 18:36Speaker 1: the seventh Annual Women's Form during combined week. Back to
- 18:40Speaker 1: the field, Back to the drills, which get going in
- 18:43Speaker 1: just under thirty minutes. Here's some of the notable measurements
- 18:46Speaker 1: I mentioned Tyree Wilson's wingspan eighty four and a half.
- 18:50Speaker 1: Some people question the size on Elijah can't see the
- 18:52Speaker 1: pensive tackle at a pitch. He checked in sixty one
- 18:55Speaker 1: to eighty one. Mazie Smith three twenty three good size,
- 18:59Speaker 1: DJ says for Felix and you do k use Zama
- 19:02Speaker 1: and Lucas vanass all of six five two seventy two.
- 19:06Speaker 1: Those are some of the big names, the guys we've
- 19:08Speaker 1: talked a lot about. This week, Scott Pioli is back
- 19:11Speaker 1: with us, not the desk, yere NFL now live with
- 19:13Speaker 1: the Combine at Lucas Oil. Scott with some under the
- 19:17Speaker 1: radar guys. Give me a nighb or two. Well, the
- 19:19Speaker 1: first time I'm gonna give is Isaiah Fosky. And he's
- 19:21Speaker 1: not totally off the radar, but he's a guy who's
- 19:24Speaker 1: on that cusp first day, second day, Isaiah Fosky, edge rusher,
- 19:28Speaker 1: defensive end from Notre Dame. I think he's going to
- 19:31Speaker 1: be a guy that gets more on the radar from
- 19:34Speaker 1: this week. Here's the deal. I want this guy on
- 19:37Speaker 1: my football team. I've spent time with him, I've spent
- 19:39Speaker 1: time with his father. This kid is the total package.
- 19:41Speaker 1: He's a team player and he's a good football player.
- 19:44Speaker 1: If you watch him over the last two years, you
- 19:46Speaker 1: know at the end of last year, he came on
- 19:49Speaker 1: really strong at the end of the season, so people
- 19:50Speaker 1: were expecting to have an incredible year this year. He
- 19:53Speaker 1: started off at a very above average pace, but as
- 19:56Speaker 1: the season went on, he became a difference maker, tremendous player,
- 20:00Speaker 1: good edge rusher, heavy hands can hold the edge. But
- 20:03Speaker 1: here's the other thing. Andrew f block punts in his
- 20:05Speaker 1: career or block kicks in his career. So he's not
- 20:08Speaker 1: only played defense very well, but he's played special teams
- 20:11Speaker 1: and he can play out in space. I think this
- 20:13Speaker 1: guy's best football is ahead of him, Andrew. We saw
- 20:16Speaker 1: those heavy hands in mobile at the at the Senior Bowl.
- 20:19Speaker 1: Twenty two sacks for Isaiah Hosky combined over the last
- 20:22Speaker 1: two years at Notre Dame. There's another guy out there
- 20:25Speaker 1: tonight linebacker. Yeah, to me, is fascinating Scott because he's
- 20:28Speaker 1: a former wide receiver. He's a former quarterback in high
- 20:31Speaker 1: school absolutely Daon Henley and played at Nevada Reno. Transfers
- 20:37Speaker 1: to Washington State. One year at Washington State. And here's
- 20:39Speaker 1: the deal, Andrew. He's not only first team All Pack
- 20:41Speaker 1: twelve linebacker, but he's second team All Pack twelve special
- 20:46Speaker 1: teams player. And here's the thing. When you come into
- 20:48Speaker 1: the league and you're a little bit under the radars,
- 20:50Speaker 1: this guy he has all you need to play. But
- 20:52Speaker 1: they're probably going to ask young linebackers that are not
- 20:56Speaker 1: first round picks end up playing on special teams. He
- 20:59Speaker 1: can play well in space. He can change direction, all
- 21:02Speaker 1: the things that are necessary for young linebackers to young player.
- 21:05Speaker 1: But as you talk about the athlete that he was
- 21:07Speaker 1: a wide receiver early on a quarterback. And here's what
- 21:10Speaker 1: I do know spending some time with the people that
- 21:12Speaker 1: know him, really really smart football player, Andrew, not the
- 21:15Speaker 1: biggest guy, but the ability to cover that running back
- 21:18Speaker 1: out of the backfield. He hit well in mobile as
- 21:20Speaker 1: well at the senior ball. Looking forward to seeing Dan
- 21:23Speaker 1: Henley coming up tonight. When it comes to the drills,
- 21:25Speaker 1: I know people tonight Scott might watch some of these
- 21:27Speaker 1: rills and say, hey, this is actually translate. Let's say
- 21:29Speaker 1: for the edge guys really to the game on Sunday,
- 21:32Speaker 1: what are you looking for the most important drill? Maybe tonight, Andrew.
- 21:36Speaker 1: Here's the thing is, we talk about athletes all the time,
- 21:38Speaker 1: and there's two different kinds of athletes. The athletes who
- 21:40Speaker 1: have the ball in their hands are what I call
- 21:42Speaker 1: the proactive athletes. Then you've got the reactive athletes and
- 21:46Speaker 1: the drills. Tonight, I want to see the players that
- 21:48Speaker 1: are reactive athletes because defensive players need to be reactive.
- 21:52Speaker 1: They need to be reactive to what the offensive players
- 21:54Speaker 1: doing so. Not every good athlete that runs well in
- 21:57Speaker 1: a straight line, that is fast in or quick can
- 22:00Speaker 1: do that. From a reactive standpoint, when they see an
- 22:03Speaker 1: offensive players do something, they need to be able to react.
- 22:06Speaker 1: So we always talk about with defensive players is reactive athleticism.
- 22:10Speaker 1: And a guy like Aiden Hutchinson right perfectly example here,
- 22:14Speaker 1: he's a big man, he's a long man, played most
- 22:16Speaker 1: of his defense in college with his hand in the dirt.
- 22:19Speaker 1: But when you saw him in drills here, one of
- 22:21Speaker 1: the things you didn't get to see too much on
- 22:23Speaker 1: game film in college is he can actually drop into
- 22:26Speaker 1: space and change direction in space. So he's a good
- 22:30Speaker 1: reactive athlete in space. Defensive players that are at certain
- 22:34Speaker 1: positions need to play on special teams, and those positions
- 22:38Speaker 1: are played out in a lot of space. And truthfully,
- 22:40Speaker 1: the way the game is changing right now, there's a
- 22:42Speaker 1: lot more defense being played out in space. Sure, Aiden
- 22:45Speaker 1: Hutchinson a guy who in space, actually picked off a
- 22:48Speaker 1: couple of passes this year have the Detroit Lions. So
- 22:51Speaker 1: much of the combine what you see here tonight and
- 22:53Speaker 1: the next three nights is confirming what you see on tape.
- 22:56Speaker 1: Hutchinson was able to come here last year Adam Michigan
- 22:58Speaker 1: confirm what you saw on tape of the Wolverines and
- 23:00Speaker 1: then ended up there with the Lions. Thank you, Scott Pioli,
- 23:03Speaker 1: d Lineman and the linebackers coming up to coming up tomorrow,
- 23:06Speaker 1: it'll be the defensive max, the corners, and the safeties.
- 23:09Speaker 1: In advance of that, those guys were on the podium today,
- 23:13Speaker 1: take a list. I'm the most competitive athlete in the draft.
- 23:18Speaker 1: You know what I'm saying, dog mentality, very passionate about
- 23:22Speaker 1: this sport. You know what I'm saying, played how I
- 23:24Speaker 1: should be played. It's all confidence, you know, playing this position,
- 23:27Speaker 1: you know you're out there on an island by yourself,
- 23:29Speaker 1: and you know that's what I live for. You know,
- 23:31Speaker 1: big matchups. Anytime I get to go up against a
- 23:34Speaker 1: great receiver, you know, the weekend, week out. That my
- 23:37Speaker 1: favorite thing to do when I play football. It is
- 23:39Speaker 1: just you know, to create joyfulness for my mom. You
- 23:42Speaker 1: know what I'm saying. I had a rough upbringing a
- 23:44Speaker 1: little bit, but you know I feel like that's just
- 23:47Speaker 1: like my safe has. Honestly, you're just gonna get a
- 23:50Speaker 1: competitor that I like to compete at anything. You do,
- 23:52Speaker 1: I kind of get down like my dad on the
- 23:54Speaker 1: field and like my mom off the field, so I'll
- 23:56Speaker 1: say that's a good mix. I gotta be the best
- 23:58Speaker 1: at everything I do. I want to be the best corner.
- 24:01Speaker 1: I've got the best the technique, sound corner, an awful man,
- 24:03Speaker 1: press zone, anything. I just want to be the best.
- 24:06Speaker 1: I prepare with the best of them, and every single
- 24:08Speaker 1: week I go out there, I think I'm the best
- 24:10Speaker 1: guy on the field consistently, and so I don't matter
- 24:13Speaker 1: if I'm going against, you know, a guy that's six
- 24:15Speaker 1: to seven or a guy that's five nine in my height,
- 24:17Speaker 1: so it just I'm gonna line up and play. I
- 24:19Speaker 1: like to hit. So when I see that blitz call commented,
- 24:22Speaker 1: I get excited. NFL Now is a production of the
