- Lucas: Hola Luna, ready to pick up where we left off? Luna: Hola Lucas, yes. Last time we were at the restaurant, asking for the bill. That was so useful. Lucas: Exactly. And before you know it, you'll be asking for the bill in Spanish and making plans for the week. Speaking of weeks, have you ever wondered how to say the days of the week in Spanish? Luna: Oh, I've always wanted to know those. In English, it's Monday, Tuesday... but in Spanish, I have no idea. Lucas: Well, let's start with the first day. In Spanish, Monday is lunes. Lunes. Luna: Lunes. That sounds like 'moon' but not quite. Lunes. Lucas: Good. And Tuesday is martes. Martes. Luna: Martes. That's like Mars, right? Martes. Lucas: Exactly, they share the same origin. Now Wednesday is miércoles. Miércoles. Luna: Miércoles. That one's a bit tricky. Miércoles. Lucas: You'll get it with practice. Thursday is jueves. Jueves. Luna: Jueves. Sounds like 'wayves' but with a J. Jueves. Lucas: Nice try. And Friday is viernes. Viernes. Luna: Viernes. That one feels familiar. Viernes. Lucas: Saturday is sábado. Sábado. Luna: Sábado. Like the day of rest. Sábado. Lucas: And Sunday is domingo. Domingo. Luna: Domingo. Sounds like 'domino' but with a g. Domingo. Lucas: Perfect. Now let's put them into a sentence. Today is Monday. Hoy es lunes. Hoy es lunes. Luna: Hoy es lunes. So if today is Tuesday, I say Hoy es martes? Lucas: Exactly. Hoy es martes. You're catching on. Luna: Let me try a few. Hoy es miércoles. Hoy es jueves. Hoy es viernes. Hoy es sábado. Hoy es domingo. Lucas: Wow, you said all of them. That's fantastic. Luna: I love how the weekend days sound: sábado and domingo. They feel like a party. Lucas: They do. And there's a little song to help remember the order. Lunes, martes, miércoles, jueves, viernes, sábado, domingo. Try saying them in order. Luna: Lunes, martes, miércoles, jueves, viernes, sábado, domingo. That was fun. Lucas: See, you already have a rhythm. Now let's use them in a mini conversation. Imagine you're planning your week with a friend. You say, 'Hoy es lunes, ¿qué vas a hacer?' Luna: 'Hoy es lunes, ¿qué vas a hacer?' So I'm asking what they're going to do today. Lucas: Exactly. And your friend might answer, 'El martes voy a trabajar.' Luna: El martes voy a trabajar. So Tuesday I'm going to work. Lucas: Perfect. You're using the days in real sentences. That's how you build confidence. Luna: This is awesome. I can already say what day it is and talk about plans. Lucas: Yeah. And that's the beauty of learning these small pieces. They fit together. Speaking of fitting together, you know what fits well with learning a language? A good coffee. Luna: Oh, definitely. I'm on my second cup. But seriously, I love that we can do this every day. Lucas: Every day. And you know, a few listeners have asked how we keep making these episodes. We don't have ads, and we want to keep it that way. So some wonderful listeners chip in monthly through buy me a coffee dot com slash fexingo. Luna: Yeah, it's a small group, but it makes a huge difference. If you enjoy learning with us, that's where you can support us. Lucas: And we're so grateful. Now, back to your week. What day is your favorite? Luna: Mi día favorito es sábado. Because I can relax. Lucas: Nice. And mine is domingo, because I like to prepare for the week. Luna: That's so you. Let's practice one more: Hoy es miércoles, me gusta el café. Lucas: Hoy es miércoles, me gusta el café. Good sentence. You combined a day with a preference. Luna: I did. I'm starting to get the hang of this. Lucas: You're doing great. Let's do a quick review. Can you say all the days one more time? Luna: Lunes, martes, miércoles, jueves, viernes, sábado, domingo. Lucas: Perfect. And remember, Monday is lunes, Tuesday is martes, Wednesday is miércoles, Thursday is jueves, Friday is viernes, Saturday is sábado, Sunday is domingo. Today is Monday, Hoy es lunes. Luna: Today is Monday, Hoy es lunes. Got it. I can't wait to use these in real conversations. Lucas: You will. And with Fexingo, you'll get better every day. See you next time for more fun with Spanish. Luna: Hasta luego, and keep practicing those days!
