- 0:10Speaker 1: Fans added an ft inside of Robert Murray with us,
- 0:12Speaker 1: we are one week away from the trade deadline. Let's
- 0:15Speaker 1: get right into it. Let's start with big names. Robert,
- 0:17Speaker 1: I'm gonna go Mason Miller to start. Percentage chance in
- 0:20Speaker 1: your mind that he gets moved over the next.
- 0:22Speaker 2: Week, I would say ten percent or less like and
- 0:26Speaker 2: I've even said that before the winning streak that they
- 0:30Speaker 2: just had against the Miami Marlins where they swept them
- 0:32Speaker 2: in Miami, and then like a j Preller absolutely loves
- 0:36Speaker 2: Mason Miller. He went out of his way and parted
- 0:39Speaker 2: with one of the best prospects in baseball in Lao
- 0:41Speaker 2: Devrees and others to get Mason Miller. And since getting
- 0:45Speaker 2: Mason Miller, the Padres have just been absolutely blown away
- 0:49Speaker 2: with him. He's been easily the best reliever in baseball
- 0:52Speaker 2: at this point. He can get the biggest outs in
- 0:54Speaker 2: the biggest situations, and he's been He's exceeded their expectations
- 0:59Speaker 2: and a year all this talk about possibly moving on
- 1:03Speaker 2: from a Galley Mason Miller, I just personally don't see it.
- 1:06Speaker 2: Like the thing is is, like I think the rumors
- 1:08Speaker 2: started with this is that Preller listens on everything. He
- 1:13Speaker 2: considers everything, and when any team asks about a specific player,
- 1:17Speaker 2: he'll be inclined to listen to see what exactly you
- 1:19Speaker 2: can get. I think that's what happened here, and I
- 1:23Speaker 2: just don't see him shopping Mason Miller. I see him
- 1:25Speaker 2: being in San Diego both now and going forward, and
- 1:29Speaker 2: it would take just a godfather blowing away offer for
- 1:32Speaker 2: Preller to even consider it. So my impression is that
- 1:35Speaker 2: Miller is likely going to be staying in San Diego,
- 1:38Speaker 2: and that kind of throws another wrench into the relief
- 1:40Speaker 2: market because there's really no clear dominant arm at least
- 1:44Speaker 2: as of this point, who could be on the move.
- 1:47Speaker 3: So they keep Miller, So that means they got to
- 1:49Speaker 3: be buyers, right.
- 1:51Speaker 2: I'm thinking so A J. Preller is always aggressive, like
- 1:53Speaker 2: that guy. Aggressive is in his nature. He loves to buy,
- 1:57Speaker 2: He loves to put his team in the best position
- 1:59Speaker 2: to go out and compete. And there's still very much
- 2:01Speaker 2: in the thick of this thing too, because the Marlins
- 2:03Speaker 2: are right there in that wildcard race with them, and
- 2:05Speaker 2: now they sweep them. Marlins are just they're not looking
- 2:08Speaker 2: good as of this point. It's possible if they continue
- 2:12Speaker 2: to lose like this that they could even sell, although
- 2:15Speaker 2: I think minimal at best there, but Preller he'll see
- 2:19Speaker 2: an opportunity here and whether you can add a bat.
- 2:23Speaker 2: But I think the real priority would be starting pitching
- 2:25Speaker 2: for them. If they can get another arm or two,
- 2:27Speaker 2: I think that'd be really good for them, And knowing
- 2:29Speaker 2: AJ Preller, he'll probably consider almost anything. But that being said,
- 2:33Speaker 2: if I'm a J. Pereller, which spoiler alert I'm not,
- 2:36Speaker 2: this would not be the year that I would go
- 2:38Speaker 2: out and get like a Trek School type. Like if
- 2:41Speaker 2: you're trying to address this team now and like want
- 2:43Speaker 2: a big, impactful player, I would look for somebody who's controllable.
- 2:47Speaker 2: That being said, I don't really know if that arm
- 2:49Speaker 2: exists on this market at least as of this point,
- 2:52Speaker 2: but I wouldn't go all in for a Gleic school,
- 2:54Speaker 2: but I think you can add pieces who can end
- 2:57Speaker 2: up helping you this year and then also going forward
- 2:59Speaker 2: as well. I think I think that definitely is possible
- 3:02Speaker 2: for them for sure.
- 3:06Speaker 4: Okay, So to shift focus a little bit.
- 3:08Speaker 5: You just spoke about obviously what asked about San Diego
- 3:11Speaker 5: being buyers.
- 3:11Speaker 4: Then you mentioned school. Could his market be heating up?
- 3:14Speaker 5: Obviously with everything going on you mentioned his name, I
- 3:17Speaker 5: wanted to, you know, mention buyers. Obviously it's his market
- 3:21Speaker 5: going to be heating up with the Tigers losing some
- 3:23Speaker 5: games and we're getting here about a week away from
- 3:25Speaker 5: the deadline.
- 3:27Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 3:27Speaker 2: For as as what I just said about Mason Miller,
- 3:30Speaker 2: where I didn't think he was going to be going,
- 3:31Speaker 2: I do think that Schooble, the chances of him being
- 3:35Speaker 2: moved at least went up this weekend with with their
- 3:37Speaker 2: series loss against the Kansas City Royals. That was a
- 3:40Speaker 2: very winnable series for them, and they did not go
- 3:42Speaker 2: out and do that. And Schooble once again did show
- 3:45Speaker 2: that he is just as dominant as he's always been.
- 3:48Speaker 2: His numbers right there. It's not necessarily like the school
- 3:51Speaker 2: that we've seen in years past, but he's still phenomenal.
- 3:54Speaker 2: He's somebody who is if you go into a Game
- 3:56Speaker 2: seven and you have Trek scoobl on the moud, do
- 3:58Speaker 2: you automatically feel phenomenal at your chances there? So he
- 4:01Speaker 2: is going to be somebody. If he's moved, it's going
- 4:04Speaker 2: to be the biggest move of the deadline. It's going
- 4:06Speaker 2: to be the move that actually defines the deadline, and
- 4:08Speaker 2: you can think of so many different teams here who
- 4:10Speaker 2: make sense. The Los Angeles Daughters, to me, are the
- 4:13Speaker 2: best fit for him. They have the prospect, they have
- 4:15Speaker 2: the aggressiveness, they have everything that they can go out
- 4:18Speaker 2: and get a guy out, Schooble. The Tampa Bay Rays
- 4:21Speaker 2: would make a lot of sense here as well. We've
- 4:23Speaker 2: heard about them being in the mix here and we've
- 4:25Speaker 2: seen we've also seen them be aggressive in years past,
- 4:28Speaker 2: whether it's been with a Freddie Freeman, a show Hey Otani,
- 4:31Speaker 2: or some of these other players. I firmly expect them
- 4:34Speaker 2: to be involved. I still think the Brewers should be
- 4:36Speaker 2: but my sense, at least as of this point, as
- 4:38Speaker 2: the Brewers are not likely going to be moving on
- 4:40Speaker 2: from the prospects that would require or that school would require.
- 4:45Speaker 2: But there's gonna be plenty of other teams in the
- 4:46Speaker 2: mix here for school as well. I think Philadelphia could
- 4:48Speaker 2: make some sense, plenty of others. As I said, but
- 4:51Speaker 2: I think the chances of him being on the move
- 4:54Speaker 2: in the next week have gone up.
- 4:57Speaker 4: Okay, now that you mentioned that, I kind of I
- 5:00Speaker 4: had a two part question.
- 5:01Speaker 5: Moving on, I think White Sox are looking in the
- 5:04Speaker 5: starting pitching, and Pirates are also looking for bullpen Hilp. So,
- 5:07Speaker 5: I know the Pirates and White Socks just you know,
- 5:10Speaker 5: made a trade. I think Jose or Keaty and I
- 5:12Speaker 5: don't know if the White Socks are planning to use
- 5:15Speaker 5: him as a starter or kind of.
- 5:16Speaker 4: A bridge guy.
- 5:16Speaker 5: But two part question of that or Katy was signed
- 5:20Speaker 5: by the Pirates and obviously coming off an injury. Where
- 5:24Speaker 5: do the Pirates look on the second part as far
- 5:26Speaker 5: as bullpen?
- 5:27Speaker 6: Hilp.
- 5:28Speaker 2: Yeah, so I'll start with the Pirates aspect of this.
- 5:30Speaker 2: It seems like adding to the bullpen is a real
- 5:33Speaker 2: priority for them in Pittsburgh, and I think they're going
- 5:35Speaker 2: to consider almost anybody. Do they have the financial means
- 5:38Speaker 2: to go out and get like a Luke Weaver type
- 5:40Speaker 2: that part, I'm not necessarily so sure, but I do
- 5:43Speaker 2: expect them to be adding at least one or two
- 5:45Speaker 2: guys to that bullpen. I think that's something that watching
- 5:49Speaker 2: their first half performance, it has to be a real
- 5:51Speaker 2: priority for them in order to compete going forward or
- 5:54Speaker 2: this year. But like that being said, though I still
- 5:59Speaker 2: am a huge fan of what the Pirates have built,
- 6:01Speaker 2: they are closer to what they want to be than
- 6:04Speaker 2: they have been in a very long time. But there's
- 6:05Speaker 2: still a legit bullpen away, probably a catcher and maybe
- 6:10Speaker 2: a little bit more besides that, But they're close. They
- 6:13Speaker 2: have the foundation in place here, so whatever they do
- 6:15Speaker 2: with the deadline, they either have to add somebody who's
- 6:18Speaker 2: controllable it can help them in future seasons, or if
- 6:21Speaker 2: they end up adding a rental, they can't be given
- 6:23Speaker 2: up the farm by any means. So I'm very optimistic
- 6:26Speaker 2: about what they're doing, and again I expect them to
- 6:29Speaker 2: be very active in that bullpen market. As far as
- 6:31Speaker 2: the White Sox go. Addressing the rotation is a huge
- 6:34Speaker 2: priority for them, and from what I'm told, they're casting
- 6:37Speaker 2: a very wide net in that search. I've mentioned read
- 6:40Speaker 2: Detmers is a possible option for them. I think he
- 6:42Speaker 2: would be just a tremendous fit in that organization, and
- 6:45Speaker 2: he's also controllable. He's somebody who they can build around.
- 6:48Speaker 2: They can partwer those with some of those top prospects
- 6:51Speaker 2: and in order to get him and build around him,
- 6:53Speaker 2: and I think that'd be an awesome fit. Clay Holmes,
- 6:56Speaker 2: he's drawing a ton of interest. Obviously, he's coming off
- 6:59Speaker 2: the injuries. Team's got to see exactly what he is
- 7:02Speaker 2: going to be coming off that injury. But he's got
- 7:04Speaker 2: another rehab out and coming up here in the not
- 7:06Speaker 2: so distant future, so teams can get another look at him.
- 7:09Speaker 2: But my impression of the White Sox is they are
- 7:12Speaker 2: indeed willing to move on from players in their top
- 7:14Speaker 2: ten or in the top ten of the farm system.
- 7:17Speaker 2: They're willing to talk about them, so that would to me,
- 7:20Speaker 2: would indicate that those higher end options would be in
- 7:24Speaker 2: the realm of possibilities for them. So I think the
- 7:26Speaker 2: White Sox, at least as of this point, are definitely
- 7:28Speaker 2: a team to watch here in the next week or so.
- 7:32Speaker 1: Big second half of the season coming up, there might
- 7:34Speaker 1: be a hot ticket, a rivalry series, a sold out

- 8:32Speaker 4: Use it later.
- 8:34Speaker 3: Are you feeling a different temperature, I guess would be
- 8:38Speaker 3: the right word between American League teams to National League
- 8:41Speaker 3: teams when it's coming to this trade deadline, because the
- 8:43Speaker 3: American League, I mean, is just it's not good. It's
- 8:47Speaker 3: for the most part, they're pretty it's pretty bad. So
- 8:49Speaker 3: I feel like there's so many teams that are kind
- 8:50Speaker 3: of right there and Okay, we're we're in contention, and
- 8:54Speaker 3: the National League I think is a little more top heavy.
- 8:56Speaker 3: There's a little bit bigger separation between those top three
- 8:59Speaker 3: fourteen teams then definitely in the American League.
- 9:03Speaker 2: No, I think that's totally spot on by you, because
- 9:05Speaker 2: if you look at the Dodgers, the Phillies, the Brewers,
- 9:09Speaker 2: the Braves, and maybe a couple others in the National League,
- 9:11Speaker 2: they can definitely go all in, they can try to
- 9:14Speaker 2: make these big splashes and be willing to part with
- 9:16Speaker 2: those high end prospects. But that being said, if you're
- 9:20Speaker 2: the American League, if you're not let's say, the Yankees
- 9:23Speaker 2: or the Rays or maybe even a couple others in there,
- 9:27Speaker 2: how willing are you to actually part with some of
- 9:29Speaker 2: those top guys, Because I don't know how many of
- 9:31Speaker 2: those teams in the American League are actually that good,
- 9:33Speaker 2: and there's somebody who are still on the fence between
- 9:35Speaker 2: buying and selling. So if you're a week away from
- 9:38Speaker 2: the deadline and you're not even sure what your direction
- 9:40Speaker 2: is going to be, unless you end up having one
- 9:42Speaker 2: of the craziest weeks of the entire season or just
- 9:45Speaker 2: in modern memory, I don't know if you can really
- 9:47Speaker 2: try to go all in this season unless it's for
- 9:49Speaker 2: one of those controllable pieces, which again I don't know
- 9:52Speaker 2: how many of those actually exist in this current market
- 9:54Speaker 2: because it's in a weird spot right now. A lot
- 9:57Speaker 2: of teams still are not even sure one what direction
- 10:00Speaker 2: going to go in, but two like who's even going
- 10:02Speaker 2: to be available at this point? So it's going to
- 10:03Speaker 2: be a very unique market. But I think we're going
- 10:06Speaker 2: to see a lot of these more, a lot of
- 10:09Speaker 2: these National League teams be much more aggressive and the
- 10:12Speaker 2: bigger names than possibly the American League teams except for
- 10:15Speaker 2: like the Yankees and the Rays among others.
- 10:18Speaker 5: Okay, to circle back a little bit about our conversation,
- 10:22Speaker 5: the name you brought up was Luke Weaver. Do you
- 10:25Speaker 5: think it's important or do you think the Mets should
- 10:28Speaker 5: I want to say not necessarily to take advantage, But
- 10:31Speaker 5: you think this is a time for them to move
- 10:32Speaker 5: him to get what they can or do you think
- 10:34Speaker 5: they hold on to him.
- 10:36Speaker 2: I think this is an opportunity where they can really
- 10:38Speaker 2: try to take advantage of a bad market here, because
- 10:40Speaker 2: as I said before, Mason Miller is not like he's
- 10:43Speaker 2: not likely to move or old as Chapman, considering the
- 10:46Speaker 2: Red Sox Red Sox's success, he's not likely to be moved,
- 10:50Speaker 2: So who's exactly going to be that high end reliever
- 10:52Speaker 2: that could be on the move. And to me, Luke
- 10:54Speaker 2: Weaver stands out as a really high end option who's
- 10:57Speaker 2: had a strong season with the Mets can table for
- 11:00Speaker 2: next year and that also adds to the value there
- 11:02Speaker 2: as well. So this could be a position where David
- 11:05Speaker 2: Stearns in that front office have an opportunity to really private,
- 11:08Speaker 2: to really take advantage of this get a lot of value,
- 11:11Speaker 2: maybe more so than they would expect coming into the season,
- 11:14Speaker 2: and I think it would behove them to really listen
- 11:16Speaker 2: to see what's out there. So I think there's gonna
- 11:18Speaker 2: be a huge market for him. But I would also
- 11:20Speaker 2: look at the rest of that roster as well, whether
- 11:22Speaker 2: it's a Clay Holmes or a Freddie Peralta, some of
- 11:26Speaker 2: those left handed guys like an aj Mentor type, or
- 11:28Speaker 2: a Brooks Raley or I mean, shoot, even a Tyrone Taylor.
- 11:32Speaker 2: From what I'm gathering, he's drawing interest there as well.
- 11:34Speaker 2: So it's going to be a really strong trade market
- 11:37Speaker 2: as far as the Mets go. But I do think
- 11:40Speaker 2: Luke Weaver is gonna be a guy who's going to
- 11:41Speaker 2: draw a ton of interest. I'm pretty sure he's already
- 11:43Speaker 2: drawing a bunch of interest. And if the offer is
- 11:46Speaker 2: good enough, I would absolutely expect David Sterns to try
- 11:48Speaker 2: to take advantage of it, because in an offseason of
- 11:51Speaker 2: bad moves, that was easily his best. So I think
- 11:54Speaker 2: he deserves credit for that one at least.
- 11:57Speaker 3: All right, don't put you on the spot here, we're
- 11:59Speaker 3: gonna take off the table, but give me the best
- 12:02Speaker 3: your your your biggest arm and biggest bet that that
- 12:04Speaker 3: you think can moved.
- 12:06Speaker 2: Oh biggest arm. I'll go Whether it's is Clay Holmes?
- 12:12Speaker 6: Is that?
- 12:12Speaker 2: Is that a? Is that a proper answer there?
- 12:14Speaker 3: Like what's that's nasty? That's a big answer.
- 12:20Speaker 2: He's coming off the injury. He's somebody who Yeah, he's
- 12:24Speaker 2: he's phenomenal and if he's healthy, like we saw what
- 12:27Speaker 2: he did with the Mets at the start of the season,
- 12:28Speaker 2: he's an absolute difference maker there. And I would absolutely,
- 12:32Speaker 2: I firmly expect him to be traded because every indication
- 12:35Speaker 2: that I've had is that he is unlikely to be
- 12:38Speaker 2: extended unless something happens in talks where it changes. It
- 12:41Speaker 2: seems like he's probably going to be traded, and I
- 12:44Speaker 2: think his market's gonna be huge. I don't Okay, biggest
- 12:48Speaker 2: possibility for a bat Okay, let me preface with this.
- 12:51Speaker 2: I don't think he's going to be traded, but I'm
- 12:54Speaker 2: gonna throw C. J. Abrams into this because he is
- 12:56Speaker 2: drawing widespread interest and he is somebody who the Nationals,
- 13:01Speaker 2: at least as of this weekend, were not engaging with teams.
- 13:04Speaker 2: But that being said, Paul Taboni, who leads the front
- 13:08Speaker 2: office there with the Nationals, he always listens on every
- 13:10Speaker 2: one of his players. He was not looking to move
- 13:14Speaker 2: Mackenzie Gore, and he ended up going out and doing it,
- 13:17Speaker 2: and he got a prospect hall that absolutely blew him
- 13:20Speaker 2: away from the Texas Rangers. He saw this. We saw
- 13:22Speaker 2: this trade this past weekend where Condie Early ended up
- 13:25Speaker 2: going to the Nationals that was not even on the
- 13:29Speaker 2: Nationals as radar. Even they were not looking to move
- 13:33Speaker 2: on from the player that they did in that deal,
- 13:36Speaker 2: and they got an offer where they got Early. They
- 13:39Speaker 2: just could not turn it down. So he considers everything again.
- 13:42Speaker 2: Do I think it's likely that Abrams is going to
- 13:44Speaker 2: be moved at this point, No, but an offer could
- 13:47Speaker 2: come that blows him away considering that interest. So that's
- 13:51Speaker 2: at least my nomination there.
- 13:52Speaker 4: I don't know if I just.
- 13:53Speaker 2: Cheated with with that answer, but that's at least.
- 13:55Speaker 4: What I believe. So with that just mentioned CJ.
- 14:00Speaker 5: Who could you potentially being see being you know, like
- 14:04Speaker 5: good fits or best fits for him?
- 14:06Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean automatically you look, I mean, shoot, in
- 14:08Speaker 2: the in the off season, the Giants showed a bunch
- 14:10Speaker 2: of interest in a gal like CJ. Abrams, and they
- 14:12Speaker 2: also really like Jacob Young there as well with the Nationals,
- 14:14Speaker 2: So automatically got to thank them. But I don't know
- 14:17Speaker 2: if that's necessarily the most likely thing in the entire
- 14:20Speaker 2: world we could see. I mean, shoot, there's I mean
- 14:23Speaker 2: there's I'm not kidding you, Like, I think the Yankees
- 14:25Speaker 2: would make a ton of sense, although I don't know
- 14:27Speaker 2: if they're gonna be a team that goes out and
- 14:29Speaker 2: makes that big splash where they part with some of
- 14:31Speaker 2: those top prospects. But we see a team like the
- 14:33Speaker 2: Boston Red Sox where they it seems like they really
- 14:36Speaker 2: want to shortstop this. This is a deadline, and we've
- 14:39Speaker 2: seen them connected to zach Netto as well. I think
- 14:41Speaker 2: Abrams makes a ton of sense for them as well,
- 14:44Speaker 2: And based on my conversations with people, it seems like
- 14:46Speaker 2: even after this trade this this past weekend, they're engaged
- 14:49Speaker 2: in a bunch of different fronts. So I would be
- 14:52Speaker 2: hardly surprised at all if the Red Sox make at
- 14:54Speaker 2: least another move or two. So I think that's they're
- 14:57Speaker 2: definitely a team to watch. I don't know if they
- 14:58Speaker 2: get Abrams again. I I can't stress it enough. I
- 15:01Speaker 2: think Abrams trade is unlikely, but we've seen Paul Tabony
- 15:04Speaker 2: act when he gets an offer that is just meets
- 15:07Speaker 2: his valor or even exceeds it, and considering the interest
- 15:10Speaker 2: I wonder if that's possible here for Galy Abrams.
- 15:13Speaker 1: Hey question for you, Robert Jim Bowden with his GM
- 15:17Speaker 1: Territory show said there's more interest in Clay Holmes than
- 15:21Speaker 1: Freddy Peralta. I mean, it's crazy to hear that, given
- 15:25Speaker 1: what Freddy went for in the offseason and the pedigree
- 15:28Speaker 1: he's had. Sounds like he might have had his last
- 15:30Speaker 1: start the other day, maybe has one more, but it
- 15:33Speaker 1: really hasn't worked out from him. What are your thoughts
- 15:35Speaker 1: on what you've seen from Freddy and if you double down,
- 15:38Speaker 1: whether it's from sources or even just from the eye test,
- 15:41Speaker 1: I mean, I would agree with JB. If I'm a team,
- 15:44Speaker 1: I'd rather take Clay Holmes coming back from an injury
- 15:46Speaker 1: right now, just given what's going on at the same time,
- 15:49Speaker 1: change of scenery for Freddy to get the old version
- 15:51Speaker 1: would not surprise anyone, right, No.
- 15:54Speaker 2: I think that's spot on what we've seen with Clay Holmes.
- 15:56Speaker 2: He's been phenomenal when he's been healthy. And Freddy, I've
- 16:00Speaker 2: got to see him up close to Milwaukee. We all
- 16:02Speaker 2: got to see it, like for almost a decade in Milwaukee.
- 16:04Speaker 2: He was dependable. He was just really stellar in that rotation.
- 16:09Speaker 2: And he's also just an A plus clubhouse guy. Everybody
- 16:12Speaker 2: who's around Freddy Parolta, whether it's been a Milwaukee or
- 16:16Speaker 2: even Queens now, they love the guy. And I think
- 16:19Speaker 2: you get him to a different environment, probably some better
- 16:22Speaker 2: defense behind him, and I think that could end up brilliant,
- 16:25Speaker 2: ending up helping him out, and he can end up
- 16:28Speaker 2: being one of the better value adds of the entire deadline.
- 16:31Speaker 2: Because the Mets are not going to get what they
- 16:33Speaker 2: got or what they gave up in the offseason where
- 16:35Speaker 2: they gave up Jet Williams and Brandon Sprote to get Paralta.
- 16:38Speaker 2: But I do think considering his history and then also
- 16:41Speaker 2: like the other aspects that I think people are forgetting
- 16:43Speaker 2: with Paralta is he's only signed for eight million bucks
- 16:46Speaker 2: this year. So if you end up adding Peralta, you're
- 16:48Speaker 2: adding that par eight million dollars salary, which is super
- 16:51Speaker 2: affordable for all of these teams. A lot of these
- 16:53Speaker 2: clubs can end up adding that contract to their books
- 16:55Speaker 2: when in reality, adding a school type even on that
- 16:58Speaker 2: paraded salary, it could be difficult for some of these
- 17:01Speaker 2: teams because it's very rare you have that kind of
- 17:03Speaker 2: money available mid season. So I think the market for Peralta,
- 17:06Speaker 2: even despite a bad season, is going to be relatively active.
- 17:10Speaker 2: But I do agree that I think a guy Clay
- 17:12Speaker 2: Holmes is definitely going to be the priority among the two,
- 17:16Speaker 2: at least as far as the trademarket goes.
- 17:24Speaker 1: If you're watching us, you already know we're wearing Mack
- 17:26Speaker 1: Weldon right now. As we talk about a great brand
- 17:29Speaker 1: that makes things so comfortable and easy to wear. But
- 17:31Speaker 1: if you're listening to the show, let me tell you
- 17:33Speaker 1: a little bit more about mac Weldon with my friend
- 17:36Speaker 1: Aer Kratz.
- 17:37Speaker 8: Yeah, it's comfortable, it's light. It's summertime right now. For
- 17:42Speaker 8: me though, they cater to what I need tall clothes. Normally,
- 17:46Speaker 8: when I buy tall clothes it's like something that's cumbersome
- 17:50Speaker 8: and boxy. It still fits incredibly well, super light, perfect
- 17:55Speaker 8: for the summertime. They got me all covered.
- 17:59Speaker 1: Comfortable performance material can be yours. Mack Weldon is the spot.
- 18:05Speaker 1: Don't sweat the heat this summer. Feel as effortlessly cool
- 18:09Speaker 1: as you look. With Mack Weldon. Go to Mackweldon dot
- 18:11Speaker 1: com and get twenty percent off your first order of
- 18:13Speaker 1: one hundred and twenty five bucks or more with promo
- 18:15Speaker 1: code foul. That's m A c kW E L d
- 18:17Speaker 1: O N dot com code f ou l.
- 18:22Speaker 3: Robert question about an old friend of mine. You're talking
- 18:24Speaker 3: about big arms. When do you think about Kevin Gosman.
- 18:26Speaker 3: What are you hearing about about Gussie?
- 18:29Speaker 4: Oh?
- 18:29Speaker 2: I think it's absolutely nuts. What's going on with what's
- 18:32Speaker 2: Toronto right now? And it's really unfortunate because I love
- 18:37Speaker 2: the Blue Jays like I think that last year what
- 18:39Speaker 2: ended up happening to them was really unfortunate, and they
- 18:42Speaker 2: going into this season, even despite losing Bolbashett they wanted
- 18:45Speaker 2: to go out and compete for another World Series. They
- 18:47Speaker 2: thought they did or they thought they were, and this
- 18:50Speaker 2: season just gone totally awry here and Gosman, he's going
- 18:53Speaker 2: to be drawing a ton of interest and whether it's
- 18:57Speaker 2: I think a team that would make a ton of
- 18:58Speaker 2: sense for him would be the Atlanta Braves. I think
- 19:00Speaker 2: he feels very bravezy. I also think he'd be a
- 19:02Speaker 2: really strong fit for a team like the Chicago White
- 19:04Speaker 2: Sox because it's a young team you add him to
- 19:07Speaker 2: that rotation there. Again, I know he's a rental option,
- 19:10Speaker 2: but still like he can be somebody who really ends
- 19:13Speaker 2: up impacting your club, and again a positive way. So
- 19:16Speaker 2: I think he's going to be drawing just an absolute
- 19:18Speaker 2: ton of interest here. So he's super intriguing. He's also
- 19:21Speaker 2: one of the better innings years in baseball. You see
- 19:23Speaker 2: his numbers there. Obviously don't look at wins and losses,
- 19:26Speaker 2: but like his numbers there are just are impressive and
- 19:30Speaker 2: I would firmly expect him to be drawing a bunch
- 19:32Speaker 2: of interests there. And I would also mention Jeff Hoffman
- 19:35Speaker 2: here as well, because he's somebody who we mentioned before
- 19:39Speaker 2: how this is gonna be a limited bullpen market and
- 19:41Speaker 2: Luke Weaver maybe the best guy to go. I get
- 19:43Speaker 2: it's been an up and down time for a guy
- 19:44Speaker 2: Hoffman in Toronto, but he's dependable. He's been somebody who
- 19:48Speaker 2: has thrived in big moments before and I know, like again,
- 19:53Speaker 2: it's been up and down in Toronto, but he's got
- 19:54Speaker 2: value across the league. He's controllable through next season, so
- 19:57Speaker 2: you know what, I think he's gonna be a guy
- 19:59Speaker 2: who U is going to draw interest, and I wouldn't
- 20:01Speaker 2: be surprised if he's moved in the next week.
- 20:04Speaker 1: I last one another team that's just flung in the
- 20:07Speaker 1: other direction where we at on the Marlins. Do you
- 20:10Speaker 1: think that they might end up looking at this losing streak,
- 20:14Speaker 1: especially if it continues or if just bad times continue
- 20:17Speaker 1: for another week and a half and it's a top
- 20:20Speaker 1: what three analytical team in baseball? If Peter Bendix looks
- 20:22Speaker 1: and goes, okay, my playoff percentage is now down to
- 20:27Speaker 1: ten percent whatever it is, right after another week, do
- 20:30Speaker 1: you think that they actually look to unload multiple players.
- 20:36Speaker 2: Yeah, it was funny. I was on the Marlins show
- 20:38Speaker 2: for Fall Territory last week and they asked me, like,
- 20:41Speaker 2: can you see him buying and selling on him? Like,
- 20:42Speaker 2: the only way that I can see them selling is
- 20:45Speaker 2: if they lost out from here on out, and well, lo, behold,
- 20:48Speaker 2: here we are, and it's it's not a good situation
- 20:50Speaker 2: here with the Marlins, and it's it's unfortunate. But even
- 20:53Speaker 2: if they do end up selling, I wouldn't expect them
- 20:55Speaker 2: to be moving like a Sandi El Contra type or
- 20:58Speaker 2: anyone along those lines. I think it be a smaller sell,
- 21:01Speaker 2: nothing like we've seen in years past. But the name
- 21:04Speaker 2: that I think everybody would be watching here would be
- 21:06Speaker 2: Anthony Bender, considering the limited trade market overall for relievers. Again,
- 21:10Speaker 2: that's why I mentioned Jeff Hoffman before. I think Bender
- 21:13Speaker 2: would be drawing a bunch of interest, but I don't
- 21:15Speaker 2: get the census would be anything any like Big Cell
- 21:20Speaker 2: by the Marlins. So again, Bender would be the guy
- 21:23Speaker 2: to watch. And if they do end up buying, I
- 21:25Speaker 2: would look at third base, I'll look at rotation among
- 21:28Speaker 2: those two things. But they're definitely a team here where
- 21:31Speaker 2: we mentioned it with the American League where all these
- 21:32Speaker 2: teams are limbo. This next week is going to determine
- 21:35Speaker 2: whether or not they buy or sell. And I think
- 21:37Speaker 2: everyone's watching it because I think Bender would be drawing
- 21:39Speaker 2: a batch of interest.
- 21:41Speaker 1: It's crazy. It does get this playoff feel to watching
- 21:44Speaker 1: games over the next week, where you're like a team
- 21:46Speaker 1: goes on a little run one way or another, it
- 21:48Speaker 1: could help decide their fate. You're just dealing with the
- 21:51Speaker 1: deadline that's coming up. That's a little bit later than
- 21:53Speaker 1: usual to Monday, August third, one week away. Robert, you're
- 21:55Speaker 1: the man.
- 21:56Speaker 4: Thank you.
- 21:56Speaker 1: We'll be talking again, of course. And also that show,
- 21:59Speaker 1: by the way, it's called fish On First. If anyone
- 22:00Speaker 1: wants to see that conversation with Robert, that focus is
- 22:03Speaker 1: more on the Marlins there. It is Robert on one
- 22:05Speaker 1: of the latest episodes fish On First, part of the
- 22:08Speaker 1: Ft Network. Robert, appreciate you and check out all his
- 22:11Speaker 1: work and fan sided a lot of action going on
- 22:13Speaker 1: for Robert over the next week.
- 22:14Speaker 4: We appreciate the time and we'll talk soon.
- 22:16Speaker 2: Okay, that sounds good to be I appreciate you boys.
- 22:18Speaker 2: Have a good one. I'll talk to you soon.
- 22:20Speaker 1: Here we go District territory host and the athletic spencer.
- 22:23Speaker 1: Nussbaum dreading us right now. He is very busy. We're
- 22:25Speaker 1: going to get to the trade, the need for Finnelly
- 22:27Speaker 1: early action a little bit later on. I want to
- 22:29Speaker 1: start with some other names though, because this appeals to
- 22:32Speaker 1: the masses. Good to see a spencer. Do you think
- 22:35Speaker 1: that some of the big boys on the Nats could
- 22:37Speaker 1: get moved like a CJ. Abrams And I know it's
- 22:40Speaker 1: not necessarily the most well known name, but Foster Griffin
- 22:43Speaker 1: All Star has been awesome this year, well known in DC.
- 22:46Speaker 1: Let's start with those two. What do you think percentage
- 22:48Speaker 1: chance at this point with a week to go?
- 22:51Speaker 6: Yeah, I think it's tricky, right because the standings actually matter,
- 22:54Speaker 6: which they haven't in forever for this team. I think
- 22:57Speaker 6: Foster is a lot more likely than CJ. Because he's
- 23:00Speaker 6: set to become a free agent after this year and
- 23:02Speaker 6: we haven't heard anything sharp about extension talks or whether
- 23:06Speaker 6: anything is close. And I think that that's meaningful when
- 23:08Speaker 6: you think about the Nationals having a long term vision
- 23:12Speaker 6: beyond that CJ. I think there are people out there
- 23:14Speaker 6: who would tell you they'd be shocked if he wasn't moved.
- 23:17Speaker 6: There are people that would tell you he's shocked if
- 23:18Speaker 6: he was moved. I kind of lean on the side
- 23:22Speaker 6: of things where I would be surprised if he goes.
- 23:24Speaker 6: At this point, the Nationals have held an incredibly high
- 23:28Speaker 6: bar when it comes to offers. They're even willing to
- 23:31Speaker 6: listen to on CJ. Abrams And I think, you know, sure,
- 23:35Speaker 6: there are a lot of contenders that would see him
- 23:37Speaker 6: as the difference between a World Series and not. And
- 23:39Speaker 6: that's why I don't think you can rule it out.
- 23:42Speaker 6: But I think when you think about the amount of
- 23:43Speaker 6: control he has left and what the team has done
- 23:46Speaker 6: this year, they could theoretically kick the can down and
- 23:50Speaker 6: kind of ahead to this winter. And so for me,
- 23:53Speaker 6: it's less likely than not, but it is absolutely still
- 23:57Speaker 6: in the cards. They're not actively shopping him, but I
- 23:59Speaker 6: think that will listen to serious offers.
- 24:03Speaker 2: Spencer.
- 24:03Speaker 3: Let's get some love to my my old, my old
- 24:05Speaker 3: buddy and old teammate Foster Griffin. I mean, what are
- 24:09Speaker 3: you seeing? What? What has he talked about that has
- 24:12Speaker 3: really helped him take that next level in the big
- 24:16Speaker 3: leagues that he learned overseas? Uh, pitching in Japan, has
- 24:19Speaker 3: he has he kind of dove into that any is
- 24:21Speaker 3: the what he learned over there because he was he
- 24:24Speaker 3: was a good he was a good, solid pitcher. But
- 24:26Speaker 3: this is what he's doing now is it's so it's
- 24:28Speaker 3: so great to see what what's what's been the biggest
- 24:31Speaker 3: difference for.
- 24:32Speaker 6: Yeah, he might be the smartest player I've ever covered.
- 24:35Speaker 6: Now again I haven't been at this that long, but
- 24:38Speaker 6: when you think about his pitch ability, that's something where
- 24:41Speaker 6: he had that to a certain degree when he was
- 24:44Speaker 6: coming up through the farm, but over in Japan he
- 24:48Speaker 6: added three pitches. And when you think about about a
- 24:50Speaker 6: guy who has seven pitches, has command of all of them,
- 24:54Speaker 6: has a nasty, nasty cutter, and can have everything play
- 24:57Speaker 6: off of that, that's not a look that guy are
- 25:00Speaker 6: used to seeing, right, Like, Yeah, maybe in the nineties
- 25:03Speaker 6: or early two thousands, you'd get a lot of these
- 25:06Speaker 6: kind of archetypes. But he is unbelievably unique when it
- 25:10Speaker 6: comes to the sort of look that you're getting out
- 25:12Speaker 6: of a starter. And beyond that, again, like I said,
- 25:15Speaker 6: incredibly intelligent and game plans probably better again than any
- 25:19Speaker 6: pitcher I've covered. When you think about him, like swiping
- 25:22Speaker 6: through his binder before the start of a game, or
- 25:26Speaker 6: just again calling his own pitches like understanding, Hey, I
- 25:29Speaker 6: can walk this guy if it means I can get
- 25:32Speaker 6: to this guy and I know what to do here.
- 25:34Speaker 6: He's thinking three steps ahead, he's thinking thirteen steps ahead.
- 25:37Speaker 6: He's been unbelievable and I think that when you think
- 25:40Speaker 6: about him as a guy on a postseason roster, I
- 25:42Speaker 6: think at the start of the year, you're going, you know,
- 25:45Speaker 6: what does he contribute? Is he a bullpen arm down
- 25:47Speaker 6: the line? To me, I think there are enough teams
- 25:49Speaker 6: out there that would see him as hey, we can
- 25:51Speaker 6: slot this guy in as our number three in October,
- 25:53Speaker 6: and it's just such a testament to what he is
- 25:56Speaker 6: and who he is on the mound.
- 26:00Speaker 5: Sorry, Spencer, first off, just want to say what's going
- 26:03Speaker 5: on with you? Appreciate you being here, and quick question
- 26:06Speaker 5: as far as you know, you just hit Foster Griffin.
- 26:08Speaker 5: Let's talk about the starting pitching with Washington as they
- 26:11Speaker 5: made this trade with Boston to get Early. I think
- 26:13Speaker 5: the bullpen is twenty seventh in era and the starting
- 26:16Speaker 5: pitching is twenty fourth. Obviously Early will be looking to
- 26:21Speaker 5: get back in August. Do you see them trying to
- 26:23Speaker 5: get creative with adding another starting pitching or some bullpen help. Obviously,
- 26:27Speaker 5: you mentioned this is a situation that Washington hasn't been
- 26:30Speaker 5: in in a while to be buyers. So how aggressive
- 26:33Speaker 5: do you see them after this move with early even
- 26:36Speaker 5: in the starting rotation or in a bullpen.
- 26:39Speaker 6: Yeah, I still find it unlikely that they'd target like
- 26:42Speaker 6: the top of the market sort of. Guys, Right, there
- 26:44Speaker 6: are a lot of teams you think, I mean, even
- 26:47Speaker 6: the Pirates, right, the Pirates are way more motivated to
- 26:49Speaker 6: buy a ninth inning guy or an eighth inning guy
- 26:52Speaker 6: than the Nationals are. Per se, you think about other
- 26:55Speaker 6: teams out there that lack starting pitching, way more motivated.
- 26:59Speaker 6: But the Nationals have a real shot this year in
- 27:02Speaker 6: a way that they didn't think they would. And so
- 27:05Speaker 6: if I'm sitting in pol Tavone's chair, I'm probably targeting.
- 27:08Speaker 6: And I think they will likely try to get at
- 27:10Speaker 6: least one bullpen arm to help shore up this thing,
- 27:13Speaker 6: whether it's an expiring contract or control alarm kind of TBD.
- 27:17Speaker 6: And I wrote this morning a little bit about the
- 27:19Speaker 6: potential of adding a controllable starter. The thing is that
- 27:23Speaker 6: they will explore it The issue is that's really hard
- 27:27Speaker 6: to do right, Like, if you're doing it at the deadline,
- 27:29Speaker 6: it probably is going to take a c. J. Abrams
- 27:31Speaker 6: type hal and you might not want to move off
- 27:33Speaker 6: that guy. Beyond that, it's hey, can we trust guys
- 27:36Speaker 6: in our farm? Can we trust this? Can we trust that?
- 27:39Speaker 6: They've seemed to have solved hitting development to the degree
- 27:42Speaker 6: that any team can solve hitting development, But the pitching
- 27:45Speaker 6: is further away, And so if they want to contend soon, yeah,
- 27:48Speaker 6: I'd expect they want at least one more starter. The
- 27:50Speaker 6: question is can they get it now or can they
- 27:52Speaker 6: push that off till this offseason?
- 27:55Speaker 5: Gotcha, Let's shift gears a focus to a guy that
- 27:58Speaker 5: I believe you tweeted about, James Wood. He had a
- 28:02Speaker 5: second home run I think it was thirtieth of the year,
- 28:04Speaker 5: and you said MVP candidate, and obviously I think he
- 28:10Speaker 5: what has ninety six runs or is leading the league
- 28:13Speaker 5: and run scored as well, And I just wanted to
- 28:16Speaker 5: highlight him and give your thoughts on what he means
- 28:18Speaker 5: to that team and just what you've seen as far as.
- 28:21Speaker 4: Having him and CJ both in that lineup.
- 28:24Speaker 5: These are two guys that are killing it, And what
- 28:27Speaker 5: are you seeing as far as them really wanting to
- 28:29Speaker 5: build around these guys or possibly, as you mentioned, CJ's
- 28:32Speaker 5: name is in these trade talks. But are they I mean,
- 28:35Speaker 5: they're going to have to be wild, obviously, I know that.
- 28:37Speaker 5: But these are two guys that are literally kind of
- 28:40Speaker 5: carrying this team offensively.
- 28:42Speaker 6: Correct, right, And sure, you can love the depth as
- 28:45Speaker 6: much as you love it. You can love what's happening
- 28:46Speaker 6: on the farm, but you can't recreate James and CJ. Right,
- 28:50Speaker 6: I think you know that you can't recreate what they
- 28:52Speaker 6: do to a lineup. Beyond that, you can't recreate what
- 28:54Speaker 6: they do to that room right where they've been asked
- 28:56Speaker 6: at twenty three and twenty five years old to kind
- 28:59Speaker 6: of take on a leadership role. Two guys who aren't
- 29:02Speaker 6: necessarily outspoken or overly vocal, and yet they've kind of
- 29:08Speaker 6: set that tone, that that loose, that comfortable, that relaxed,
- 29:11Speaker 6: but that locked in tone for the Nationals this year.
- 29:15Speaker 6: You search anything about James and what he's done this season,
- 29:19Speaker 6: it's it's all, Oh, he's on pace to do what
- 29:21Speaker 6: Ted Williams has done or Babe Ruth has done, or
- 29:24Speaker 6: you know, even Barry Bonds for stretches has done. He
- 29:28Speaker 6: is one of those players that you envision, you know,
- 29:30Speaker 6: he's an MVP candidate at twenty three. What does that
- 29:32Speaker 6: tell you twenty four, six, twenty seven is also going
- 29:36Speaker 6: to look like it's probably the same thing. Right when
- 29:38Speaker 6: you think about what these two guys have done at
- 29:40Speaker 6: the top of the lineup, two top ten hitters in baseball,
- 29:43Speaker 6: that is what gives you hope that in a short
- 29:45Speaker 6: series this year in the postseason, you can get it done.
- 29:48Speaker 6: In a series next year or the year beyond, you
- 29:52Speaker 6: have a shot if you get just a couple more pitchers.
- 29:55Speaker 6: But I just can't say enough about what James and
- 29:57Speaker 6: cj have done. Two guys who came into this year
- 30:01Speaker 6: with big first half last year and a disappointing second half,
- 30:05Speaker 6: and there has been no sign that they will tail
- 30:07Speaker 6: off this season. I mean, it's unbelievable what they've done.
- 30:12Speaker 3: You think that transitional lead off has been. I mean,
- 30:14Speaker 3: it seems like it's been so good for Wood. Has
- 30:15Speaker 3: he talked about that and he seems really comfortable there.
- 30:18Speaker 6: Yeah, he talks about how he's comfortable anywhere. Obviously he
- 30:21Speaker 6: gets more at bats at a lead off spot, and
- 30:24Speaker 6: so that's important. Beyond that, I think in years past,
- 30:28Speaker 6: if you put him in the two or the three spot,
- 30:31Speaker 6: you would have it where pitchers can pitch around the
- 30:34Speaker 6: guy ahead of him or pitch around the guy behind him,
- 30:37Speaker 6: I should say, whereas this year he's had usually someone
- 30:40Speaker 6: with an eight hundred at or nine hundred ops hitting
- 30:43Speaker 6: right behind him. So it's, oh my god, Like, if
- 30:45Speaker 6: you're a pitcher, right, you want to set the tone early.
- 30:48Speaker 6: How are you supposed to set the tone early when
- 30:50Speaker 6: you're facing like an MVP candidate?
- 30:51Speaker 3: Right?
- 30:52Speaker 6: And so I think it's been big for him now
- 30:55Speaker 6: when we've asked him about it, he said, I'm comfortable
- 30:57Speaker 6: hitting anywhere. But marginally I think think it has helped
- 31:00Speaker 6: him out.
- 31:03Speaker 5: Okay, And just in a recent column you spoke on,
- 31:06Speaker 5: you know, things the Nationals can do to get better,
- 31:09Speaker 5: you know, if they wanted October bound possibly and want
- 31:13Speaker 5: to give your thoughts on that, especially, you know, starting
- 31:15Speaker 5: with the trade, do you see that as a step
- 31:17Speaker 5: in the right direction. Obviously he can't pitch until possibly August,
- 31:22Speaker 5: but you know, with your column and then that trade,
- 31:24Speaker 5: you know, just wanted to get your thoughts on just
- 31:27Speaker 5: both of them.
- 31:28Speaker 6: Yeah, I have felt for so long that this team
- 31:32Speaker 6: had next to no shot at making the postseason, which
- 31:35Speaker 6: goes to show you what I know. Right like the
- 31:37Speaker 6: it's it's late July, and they have a chance and
- 31:40Speaker 6: they have frankly improved their chances because they have Connie
- 31:44Speaker 6: Early on the team. Right now, I know that's that's
- 31:46Speaker 6: difficult to say when you trade away an important bat
- 31:49Speaker 6: who had an eight fifty ops. But again, the Nationals
- 31:52Speaker 6: have shown that they can hit right all of a sudden,
- 31:54Speaker 6: you have put yourself in a spot where you have
- 31:57Speaker 6: Kid Cavali, who for those who are unfamiliar among the
- 32:00Speaker 6: league leaders in FIP, if you look at stuff, he
- 32:03Speaker 6: has it. If you just like kind of watch him,
- 32:05Speaker 6: he has it. He is a He is an October
- 32:07Speaker 6: type starter. But beyond that, especially if they trade away
- 32:10Speaker 6: Foster Griffin, it's man who's filling in behind him, right
- 32:13Speaker 6: like Zachotel, Miles, Michaeliss, some other guys have been okay
- 32:17Speaker 6: in stretches, but haven't shown the sort of stuff ninety
- 32:22Speaker 6: five or the crazy swing and miss that you usually
- 32:24Speaker 6: see in October. And beyond that, the bullpen is set
- 32:28Speaker 6: to you know, break the blown saves record, right, so
- 32:32Speaker 6: it's what would they theoretically do on the mound? To me,
- 32:35Speaker 6: this solidifies it. And again the president based operations, Paul
- 32:39Speaker 6: Taboney said it the other day. This team has the
- 32:41Speaker 6: it factor and right now it has two pitchers that
- 32:44Speaker 6: it is more than comfortable with pitching in October. So
- 32:47Speaker 6: even if they take the long vision, his game is
- 32:49Speaker 6: not played on spreadsheets and they know, hey, we we
- 32:52Speaker 6: have a shot this year, and I think it'll be
- 32:55Speaker 6: really compelling to watch down the stretch.
- 32:58Speaker 5: Okay, and then two part question with this trade, do
- 33:04Speaker 5: you have you heard anything about the possible time table
- 33:07Speaker 5: for early returning And then you know, what is your
- 33:10Speaker 5: perspective on you got a chance to see Curtis meat
- 33:12Speaker 5: this year. Is that you know, did he overperform in
- 33:16Speaker 5: their eyes or is this something that you know they
- 33:18Speaker 5: they saw like all this guy is going to be
- 33:19Speaker 5: able to make a you know, potential impact and not
- 33:22Speaker 5: necessarily mean be traded, but is this something that they
- 33:24Speaker 5: saw as what could be considered somewhat of a breakout
- 33:27Speaker 5: year for them.
- 33:29Speaker 6: Yeah, I'll start on early, so he's expected to have
- 33:32Speaker 6: a rehab outing. We were told August third, although it's
- 33:34Speaker 6: a Monday so probably some time around then, and then
- 33:37Speaker 6: he could be ready as soon as two weeks after that.
- 33:39Speaker 6: And so if you're looking at a mid August return,
- 33:42Speaker 6: that still gives you, you know, six or seven starts
- 33:44Speaker 6: down the stretch. As for Curtis Mead, I mean, I
- 33:48Speaker 6: don't want to say that every single hitter on the
- 33:50Speaker 6: Nationals who's broken out is going to sustain their success.
- 33:54Speaker 6: I think that's maybe an unrealistic standard to set. I
- 33:58Speaker 6: think Curtis Meat is one of those guys who who
- 34:00Speaker 6: has right. I talked to him for twelve fifteen minutes
- 34:03Speaker 6: the other day just kind of about that concept right
- 34:06Speaker 6: before he was traded, as a matter of fact, and
- 34:09Speaker 6: he had mentioned right, like, in years past he was
- 34:11Speaker 6: someone who had inconsistent playing time, and you guys know
- 34:14Speaker 6: the downside of that, right, Like, if you have inconsistent
- 34:16Speaker 6: playing time, it's hard to get in a rhythm and
- 34:18Speaker 6: it's hard to kind of set your mind straight. And
- 34:21Speaker 6: so Curtis between every game would be changing his hands,
- 34:23Speaker 6: or he'd be chasing his stance, or he'd be doing
- 34:25Speaker 6: all these tweaks. He's kind of on the far end
- 34:27Speaker 6: of the spectrum of people who like to tinker all
- 34:30Speaker 6: of a sudden, he gets to Washington, reunites with his
- 34:33Speaker 6: old manager and Blake Terra, and what do you know,
- 34:36Speaker 6: he stops tweaking and adds a little bit bat speed.
- 34:40Speaker 6: For those of you that you know value that and
- 34:43Speaker 6: I would as well. And when you take that and
- 34:45Speaker 6: you look at what he's done this season, it's been
- 34:47Speaker 6: so consistent. He has pull side power, he has everything
- 34:50Speaker 6: that plays at Fenway right, and I think he's a
- 34:53Speaker 6: really smart hitter too, so he knows how to make
- 34:55Speaker 6: adjustments when he needs to. But yeah, if he has
- 34:58Speaker 6: what an eight to fifty ops this, ye, I don't
- 35:00Speaker 6: see that dipping below eight hundred before the end of
- 35:03Speaker 6: the season, which I think is probably exactly what Red
- 35:06Speaker 6: Red Sox fans want to hear.
- 35:08Speaker 1: Yeah, that was a fascinating one. I love those types
- 35:11Speaker 1: of trades, right, it's too big. Leader's going to help
- 35:13Speaker 1: the team, you know in the short term. Here, Spencer,
- 35:16Speaker 1: thanks for the time, man, you had lots of action.
- 35:18Speaker 1: We're looking at you. This is one of the teams
- 35:20Speaker 1: that's I think, kind of all over the place, and
- 35:22Speaker 1: Paul Taboni has done a great job and his first
- 35:24Speaker 1: you know, half a season running the team will see
- 35:26Speaker 1: how he does here and get all the grades. We'll
- 35:28Speaker 1: talk to you soon, and also we'll be listening to
- 35:30Speaker 1: District Territory even for fans that don't care about the Nationals,
- 35:34Speaker 1: to hear about some players that they might be able
- 35:37Speaker 1: to acquire.
- 35:38Speaker 4: All right, thank you guys,
