• 0:00
The Los Angeles Lakers faced the New York Knicks at Madison Square Garden in New York
• 0:04
for Game 7 of the 1969-70 NBA Finals on May 8, 1970.
• 0:10
The Lakers were in their third consecutive NBA Finals, having lost in 1968 and 69 to
• 0:15
  Bill Russell's Celtics.
• 0:18
The Knicks were on the rise.
• 0:20
After early exits from the playoffs in the three previous years, they stormed through
• 0:23
the 1970 season, including 23 wins in their first 24 games and finishing with a 60-22
• 0:29
  record.
• 0:30
The Lakers were an older team, with Elgin Baylor, Jerry West, and Wilt Chamberlain all in their
• 0:36
  mid-30s.
• 0:37
The core of the Knicks roster was young, including future Hall of Famers Walt Frazier, Bill Bradley,
• 0:42
Willis Reed, and Dave DeBusher all in their 20s.
• 0:45
The first six games of the series were tight, with alternating wins and losses and overtimes
• 0:50
in both games 3 and 4.
• 0:52
This audio recording of Game 7 is from the radio broadcast featuring the legendary announcer,
• 0:57
  Marv Albert.
• 1:27
The Knicks are in the lead, and the big question tonight is what is the status of Willis Reed?
• 1:32
The Knicks and Lakers are warming up down on the court.
• 1:36
The Knicks are two hours left, and the Lakers are two hours right.
• 1:40
Everybody in the house looking for Willis Reed.
• 1:42
Willis is not taking part in the warm-up.
• 1:45
And Frankie Blouse shot on the public address to the fence.
• 1:50
Just made an announcement that I did not catch.
• 1:53
  And let's see.
• 1:54
It's being written out, Reed will start.
• 1:57
He will start the ball again.
• 1:59
He just received another injection back in the Knicks' clubhouse.
• 2:05
With all heads here at Madison Square Gardens turned toward the area in which the Knicks
• 2:11
  and Lakers take the court.
• 2:13
The Knicks are warming up without Willis Reed, but Willis will play, although the crowd here
• 2:18
at the Gardens does not know it as of yet.
• 2:21
How effective Willis Reed will be remains to be seen.
• 2:25
Willis has taken constant treatment for the injured hip.
• 2:29
He says that he will be on the court no matter what.
• 2:32
And it figures tonight again to be an intensive, emotional night of basketball at Madison Square
• 2:39
  Gardens.
• 2:40
For the Knicks and the Lakers, it comes down to this.
• 2:43
Who will win the final game of the season?
• 2:47
And on this one game alone, you can almost throw out all previous performance.
• 2:52
And now the crowd is rising.
• 2:54
  Here comes Willis Reed.
• 2:57
Reed making his way from the dressing room area out of the court.
• 3:02
And Willis is receiving a standing ovation.
• 3:05
Takes the ball off the foul line.
• 3:07
He jumps and it hits the rim and bounce to the right.
• 3:09
And now Willis will take part in the pregame warm-up.
• 3:12
This here is because Willis just did a couple.
• 3:15
Now he takes some foul shots.
• 3:17
  This is the first.
• 3:18
  Looks over the back court.
• 3:19
  Clips the second one in.
• 3:21
  And the crowd roars.
• 3:22
And this will continue right through the pregame warm-up.
• 3:26
You may recall a professional debut of Bill Bradley several years back when he took the
• 3:33
court against the then St. Louis Hawks and received a rousing ovation during the course
• 3:41
  of the warm-ups.
• 3:42
Every move was watched, every dribble was watched from the same.
• 3:46
Taking place right here with Willis Reed as he hits another free throw.
• 3:50
So Willis will be in the starting lineup for the New York Knickerbockers.
• 3:55
And the roars that you hear in the background are responses to Willis hitting from the foul line.
• 4:02
As I started to mention, on this one game alone, you can throw out previous performance.
• 4:07
Whoever wins tonight will be remembered.
• 4:10
When we look back years to now on the 1969-70 National Basketball Association season.
• 4:18
The cry of let's go Knicks in the background.
• 4:23
The officials tonight, once again, Andy Rudolph and Richie Powers.
• 4:28
  Ed Rush is the alternate.
• 4:30
Taking a look back at this series.
• 4:32
Game number one was played here at the Guiden April 24th.
• 4:35
The Knicks beat the Lakers 124-112.
• 4:38
Game number two at the guard, won by the Lakers 105-103.
• 4:42
Game three in LA, one and overtime by the Knicks.
• 4:46
That's the game that will remain famous for the 63-footer hit by Jerry West
• 4:52
at the end of the game tied in regulation time.
• 4:55
The Knicks won it in the overtime, 111-108.
• 4:58
And the Lakers came back last Friday night to tie the series at 2-2 by beating the Knicks in overtime, 121-115.
• 5:06
The miracle game here at Madison Square Garden last Monday with Willis re-entering his hit
• 5:13
at the eighth minute mark of quarter number one.
• 5:16
Willis was through for the night, but the Knicks, coming from 16 points back, rally to pull out a classic, 107-100.
• 5:26
And then May the 6th in LA, this past Wednesday night, Lakers one up the Knicks,
• 5:32
who played without Willis, red hole for them, feeling that Willis would be in better shape by sitting it out
• 5:39
and waiting for game number seven back here.
• 5:43
So the Knicks went with Nate Bowman, Bill Hoskett, Dave Stoworth against Will Chabalin.
• 5:48
Willis sitting on the bench, and the Lakers won it 135-113.
• 5:54
So we are three and three.
• 5:56
Now John Cundin on the P.A., introducing the starting lineup, first for the Los Angeles Lakers.
• 6:03
At one floor, 12-year veteran out of Seattle University, Elgin Ballard.
• 6:08
At the other floor, a man who's done a tremendous job throughout the playoff, Keith Erickson.
• 6:13
The center, Will Chabalin, well averaging 23.7 against the Knicks over the first six games.
• 6:20
In the back court, the rookie out of seventh Illinois, Dick Garrett.
• 6:24
And at the other guard position, 10-year pro out of West Virginia,
• 6:28
averaging 31.8 during the playoff against the New York Knicks, Jerry West.
• 6:33
The coach of the ball club, Joe Meletti.
• 6:36
And now, the New York Knicks, weighted by a standing ovation number two of the night, and we haven't even begun.
• 6:46
  At one floor, Dave Sabochik.
• 6:51
Dave averaging better than 18 against the Lakers in the playoff series.
• 6:55
At the other floor, Phil Bartlett.
• 6:59
Well, it's not kind of a disappointing series against the Lakers.
• 7:02
  He's averaging 11.3.
• 7:04
The center, the captain of the ball club, Willis Greaves.
• 7:08
Willis with a 26.8 average against the Lakers.
• 7:12
And Willis is getting a tremendous standing ovation.
• 7:18
And John Coghoun waits before continuing with the introduction.
• 7:24
As the crowd continues to roar for one of three.
• 7:29
They are standing, and they are cheering.
• 7:33
And now, John Coghoun attempts the rest of the introductions.
• 7:36
At the other guard, Walt Frazier and Dick Barnett.
• 7:42
Coach of the New York Knicks, Rod Holton.
• 7:46
The officials, as we mentioned, Mandy Rudolph and Richie Powers.
• 7:50
The cry of let's go Knicks.
• 7:53
The Knicks are on the court.
• 7:54
Now the Lakers break the huddle.
• 7:56
If the Knicks go on to win the World Championship.
• 8:00
By beating the Lakers tonight, our post-game broadcast, our post-game scoreboard show, will originate from the Knicks clubhouse.
• 8:07
  If the Knicks are victorious.
• 8:11
Willis Reed and Wilp Shamelin at center court.
• 8:15
And Richie Powers with the basket ball.
• 8:17
  Here's the tap.
• 8:18
  Controlled by the Lakers.
• 8:19
  Erickson cross court to Garrett.
• 8:21
  Garrett along the left sideline.
• 8:22
On the corner it goes to Ballas.
• 8:24
Moves left side of the circle.
• 8:25
  Top of the key.
• 8:26
  Off the screen.
• 8:27
  Jump shot.
• 8:28
  Rebound.
• 8:29
  Left raffle.
• 8:30
  New York ball.
• 8:31
  Down court to Frazier.
• 8:32
  Guarded by West.
• 8:33
  Left side of the lane.
• 8:34
  Outside Reed.
• 8:35
  Jumps from 20.
• 8:36
  Quick two.
• 8:37
  Lakers coming.
• 8:38
  Here is West.
• 8:39
Coming out of the back court against Barnett.
• 8:40
  West across the mid-court line.
• 8:41
  West to the right side.
• 8:46
Inside sits Shamelin who's bumped as Bradley and Barnett go over to help out.
• 8:51
  And a foul is called.
• 8:52
  And Shamelin.
• 8:53
  Little belied.
• 8:54
  He's fouled by Bradley.
• 8:55
Willis looks to be hobbling around as he tests the leg.
• 8:56
  And now heads down court.
• 8:57
  Shamelin.
• 8:58
  On the line for one.
• 8:59
  Open a minute of play.
• 9:00
  Seventh and finale.
• 9:01
  World Series of Basketball.
• 9:02
Foul shot missed but the rebound through the hands of Frazier taken by Shamelin.
• 9:14
  Cross court.
• 9:15
  Guard on the drive left.
• 9:16
Spinning jump from 10 is missed.
• 9:17
The rebound battled around taken by Shamelin.
• 9:18
And he lays it up and in.
• 9:19
The next for complaining that it should have been a three-second violation.
• 9:20
No call to St. Bradley of the forecourt.
• 9:21
  Down the lane.
• 9:22
The ball's knocked out of his hands.
• 9:23
  Recovered by Bradley.
• 9:24
  Cross court.
• 9:25
  Shamelin.
• 9:26
  Shamelin.
• 9:27
  Shamelin.
• 9:28
  Shamelin.
• 9:29
  Shamelin.
• 9:30
  Shamelin.
• 9:31
  Bradley.
• 9:32
  Cross court.
• 9:33
Ten at the ream and a foul is caught.
• 9:34
  And Bradley.
• 9:35
  We're going to the line.
• 9:36
Bradley lost the ball but recovered.
• 9:37
Try to hit Willis to his right.
• 9:38
  Garrett commits the foul.
• 9:39
So that is the first team foul down the Lakers.
• 9:40
And Bradley will go to the line for one shot.
• 9:41
  With tied at two.
• 9:42
On field goes by Reed and Shamelin.
• 9:43
Bradley on the line for one.
• 9:44
  Flips up at the backboard.
• 9:45
Flips it up at the right hand and it's good.
• 9:46
So the next lead at two.
• 9:47
  Shamelin.
• 9:48
  Shamelin.
• 9:49
  Shamelin.
• 9:50
  Shamelin.
• 9:51
  Shamelin.
• 9:52
  Shamelin.
• 9:53
  Shamelin.
• 9:54
  Shamelin.
• 9:55
  Shamelin.
• 9:56
  Shamelin.
• 9:57
  Shamelin.
• 9:58
  Shamelin.
• 10:01
  Shamelin.
• 10:06
  Shamelin.
• 10:11
on the right side. Got it by DeBusha, holds up the dribble. Inside, Chamberlain. They will
• 10:14
test lead right at the start. Chamberlain battles for position. Cannot find an opening.
• 10:19
Holds the ball, pumps it with the right hand, fires outside to Valda. At the top of the
• 10:23
key, he drives left. Backs it on DeBusha, turns, whistled, offensive foul. Valda commits the
• 10:29
foul. And the Knicks will come out of the backcourt. So the first test of the night
• 10:36
with Chamberlain going against Reed does not pay off for the Lakers. Chamberlain did not
• 10:40
get good position. Barnett to Reed on the forecourt. Right side from 20, jumps. Willis
• 10:47
will hit on his first two. 5 to 2, the Knicks on top. A minute and a half gone by and this
• 10:52
crowd is going wild right at the outset. West to the forecourt. Inside, Chamberlain. Holds
• 10:57
it high over the head. Tries to go cross court. Turns, one hand. It is no good but a hacking
• 11:02
foul is called on Reed. And Willis knew it, no argument on the court. Chamberlain will
• 11:08
go to the line for two shots. The road has improved from the foul line as the series
• 11:16
is full-down. But he is obviously not one of your better NBA foul students. First by
• 11:24
Chamberlain is Hudson. Knicks rated 5 to 2. Two field goals for Reed a foul shot by Bradley.
• 11:31
Here's the second by Chamberlain. Rims to Baskin. Rebound DeBusha. New York ball. Down
• 11:35
court Bradley. Fast break from the Knicks. Bradley on the drive. Left side of the lane.
• 11:38
To Reed on the corner. Outside DeBusha. Cross court Frazier. Good movie. Drive. Stop. Hakes.
• 11:43
Jump. And it is no good. Rims to Baskin but Frazier is fouled. And the Knicks are working
• 11:48
the ball around very smartly. Erickson commits the foul. Frazier will go to the line for
• 11:54
two shots. A minute and 50 gone by in this first quarter. Here's the first of two by
• 12:03
Walms. It is up and good. Knicks 6. Lakers 2. Second free throw by Frazier. Yes. 7-2.
• 12:13
Knicks on top. Garrett. Hooked by Frazier in the backcourt. Frazier goes for the ball.
• 12:18
As Garrett has trouble moving it across. Now moves across to midcourt line. Frazier all
• 12:21
over the ball. Knocked away. Recovered by Garrett. Loose to the corner. Hands to Erickson. The
• 12:25
Knicks are pressing early. Inside it goes as Erickson makes his move on Bradley. Hems off
• 12:30
to play. Jumpers short. Rebound. Frazier. New York ball. Down court. Bradley across
• 12:34
the midcourt line. Cross court. The push from one hand. Yes. The Knicks 9. Lakers 2. And
• 12:41
the Lakers call for time. The Knicks looking very sharp right at the start. And of course
• 12:50
we are very early with 9.42 remaining in this first quarter. The score. The New York Knicks
• 12:57
  9. The Los Angeles Lakers 2 with the time up. Way back in. Lakers to the forecourt. Erickson
• 13:04
at the foul line. Cross court to Baddow. The crowd roars defense. Back the other way to
• 13:08
Erickson on the right side. Inside. Chaplin. He fakes. He turns. Soup shot is no good.
• 13:13
Rebound to Erickson. Hooked away but he recovers. Hooked the ball high over the head. Cross
• 13:17
court. Baddow who is open. A jump from 20 is good. And the Knicks lead by the score of
• 13:22
9-4. Lakers having their problems getting the ball to West. Barnett to the forecourt.
• 13:26
Along the right sideline. He's got it by West. Holds the ball high over the head. Cross court
• 13:30
Frazier at center court. Midway between the sidelines. Top of the key to Bradley. He turns.
• 13:34
Jumps from 20 and hits. Knicks are having a real hot first quarter. They now lead 11-4.
• 13:40
Bradley with three points. Lakers to the forecourt. Erickson moves it across against Bradley.
• 13:45
Along the left sideline as Bradley goes for the ball. Erickson holds up. Tight defense
• 13:49
by the Knicks. Now he hands to West and a troubling violation is called and the Lakers do not like the call.
• 13:56
Erickson could not release the ball and he dragged the pivot foot. The Knicks take over on the turnover.
• 14:02
8-44 remaining first quarter. Knicks out of the back court. Frazier races to the top of the key.
• 14:06
Now holds up the dribble. Cross court. It goes to the Buescher. Inside. Barnett. He turns.
• 14:10
He fakes. The ball is knocked out of his hands by Baddow. Down court. Erickson. Erickson is caught by
• 14:14
Frazier. Holds up the dribble. Cross court. West down the lane. Running one-hander is good.
• 14:19
Jerry West driving shot down the lane. 11-6 the score. The Knicks on top. Frazier.
• 14:24
Holds it across against Garrett. He's along the left sideline with the left-hand dribble.
• 14:28
Turns it back. Beautiful fake. Facts the baseline. Jumps. It is blocked. What a foul to call.
• 14:32
Garrett had part of the ball and had part of Frazier's hand. And Garrett commits his second.
• 14:41
That is team foul number three on the Lakers. Knicks have been hit with two. And Frazier was out of the line for two shots.
• 14:48
Walters two for two. From the foul line. Knicks with a five-point lead. Here's the first. It is off the front rim and drops through.
• 14:56
12-6. The Knicks have led all the way. Here's the second free throw. Good.
• 15:03
Knicks 13 and the Lakers 6. Ballot out of the back court against the Buescher with the right-hand dribble across the mid-court line.
• 15:10
Right there by the Buescher. Along the right sideline. He backs to the top of the key. Now cuts to his right.
• 15:15
Continues to the baseline. Does not have the shot. Outside to west. Great puck by Barnett. He fakes. Now jumps. Hits the front rim. Bounce off.
• 15:23
Rebound to Buescher. A hit to Barnett. Fast break for the Knicks once again. Barnett leaps to Buescher inside. Turn around one-handed.
• 15:29
Oh! Beautiful pass from Barnett to Buescher. And the Knicks lead it 15-6.
• 15:35
They try to blow the Lakers out of it. Really tough defense. They're running. Tapping the ball around well.
• 15:41
Now the Lakers in the forecourt. Inside. Shave-a-in. Has the ball knocked away and taken by Reed as the Buescher got his hand on the ball.
• 15:48
Down court. Bradley along the right side of the forecourt. Hands to Buescher. He fakes. Now he tries. The ball's knocked out of his hands.
• 15:55
Picked up by the Buescher. In the corner by that smuggled ball. The Buescher takes it back. To Barnett.
• 15:59
The Knicks are massaging for the shot. Inside. Reed cross-court pass stolen by the Lakers. Down court west ahead of the field. He drives.
• 16:05
Shot is won by Frazier but Chamberlain with the follow. Dunsit. Frazier with the pretty block. But Chamberlain right behind him.
• 16:13
Ground in the play. 15-8. Mixed out top. Pass to Reed at the high post. Willis from the foul line now goes cross-court to Bradley.
• 16:20
Comes around the pick. Drive. Pass. Chamberlain underhands a rebound.
• 16:24
Play made by Bradley. And the Knicks lead at 17-8. 6.45 remaining in this first quarter. Garrett across the mid-court line.
• 16:33
Garrett guarded tightly by Frazier. On the right side to Barlow. Puts it on the floor. Drives left off the pick from the foul line.
• 16:40
He jumps and hits. Elgin Barlow with the second field goal. 17-10. Mixed by Seven.
• 16:46
DeBusher to the far court. DeBusher to the top of the key. Cuts to his right off the pick. Picked up on the switch by Erickson. One bounce to Bradley.
• 16:54
Drives to the baseline. Does not have the shot. Cross-court bonnet. Jumper from 20. Hits the rim. Bounds off. Rebound is batted around.
• 17:00
Whips it on the play and a foul is called. It is a loose ball foul on the Knicks. And the Lakers will come out of the backhawks.
• 17:09
Down on Reeve. That is Willis' second. Team foul number three on the Knicks. Mixed by Seven. West to the forecourt.
• 17:18
Bumbles the ball. Looses to DeBusher. Across the mid-court line. Cross-court or toes to Barlow. Jumps from the side.
• 17:25
It is no good. It rims the basket. The rebound is grabbed by Frazier. Good hustle. He turns. Jumps.
• 17:30
15 feet on left side. Frazier hitting. As he hustled after that loose ball. That converted 19-10. The Knicks on top. Garrett on the drive.
• 17:39
Across the length. Pulls up for the jumper. That is around. It drops through. Garrett cutting to his left. 19-12 the score.
• 17:46
Knicks on top. Bradley to the forecourt. He spins on Erickson. Outside to Busher. Off the pick. One hand. Hits.
• 17:52
21-12. Redhawks shooting by the Knicks here in the first quarter. Five and a half romantic of the quarter. Garrett moves it across with the right hand dribble.
• 18:00
Cross-court pass to Erickson. Hands to West. West pulls to his right. To the baseline. He turns and jumps. It is no good. Rebound.
• 18:07
Battle around. Taken by Erickson. Short jump. Good. Erickson 10 feet on right side.
• 18:14
This first field goal. 21-14 the score. Knicks by 7. Frazier to the forecourt. Nears field by Garrett. Now Frazier behind the back dribble.
• 18:22
He drives west. Turns and jumps. And hits. And he is fouled. Hits at the top. And Clarence to Knicks number 3.
• 18:30
That is field foul number 4 on the Lakers. And Frazier will go to the line to try for the three point play. Frazier now with 8 points. Foul shot good.
• 18:45
And the Knicks lead it 24-14. Knicks lead it the ball game by the Knicks. 4.55 remaining. First quarter. West against Barnett.
• 18:54
Closing across the mid-court line with the right hand dribble. Along the left sideline. Now he cuts to his right. Backs in. Pulls the bucket.
• 19:00
Spins away. Fakes and jumps. And hits as he banks it in. Field goal number 2 for West. 24-16 the score. Knicks on top. New York ball.
• 19:09
Caboosha. Right side. Caboosha moves to the right side of the circle. One bouncer. So Bradley back to the basket. Outside to Reed for a jumper that hits the rim.
• 19:16
Bounce out. Rebounded by Chamberlain in the lane. Hands to Garrett. He hands to West. West out of the back court against Barnett. Almost lost the dribble.
• 19:24
Now the Lakers can shed that Barnett. Pushed him into the back court. West still with the ball. He tried. And stops. From 15 a jumper.
• 19:29
Is around and out. Rebound by Reed. Too much English on the basketball. Down court Frazier. Across the mid-court line. Cuts to his left.
• 19:37
Garrett playing with the free fouls. Now stops and jumps. West. Frazier is having a tremendous first quarter. His third field goal. He has 11 points.
• 19:47
6 by 10. 26-16. And of course Garrett must be careful with the free personal fouls. Laker ball inside Chamberlain. Bombs the ball in the right hand.
• 19:55
Puts it on the floor. Turns. Jumps. No good. Rebound Frazier. Out of the back court on the fast break once again. Frazier to the top of the key.
• 20:02
On the left side the busher. From 20. Jumper. No good. Rebound. Flatted around. Taken by Bradley. Outside. Flatted off the screen. Jumps. Yes!
• 20:09
28-15. And here come the Lakers out of the back court with 3 minutes and 20 seconds. Remaining in quarter number 1.
• 20:20
Baylor to the right side of the lane. Baylor to the top of the key. Now holds up the dribble. We get a whistle. And Richie Powers makes the call. Foul against the Knicks.
• 20:34

• 1:30:41
Mike first of all congratulations. Thanks very much. I tell you I don't think anybody in the house expected it to be as devastating a route as it turned out to be. Neither do we. We figured it would be a tough game in our hands but we came out playing defense from the start and carried this right over into the second half. It was an inspirational presence even hypothermic even more so it's a great feeling.
• 1:31:07
I thought you did a tremendous job on West. In fact both you and Barnett are covering West making it almost impossible for them to get any shots off.
• 1:31:15
We're trying to play him without the ball a lot and harass him as much as possible. We got a lot of help with double teaming so we did the best we could even though he did get 28. It's still a lot of satisfaction to keep him under 30.
• 1:31:27
28 is alright. Anything under 30 is alright.
• 1:31:30
Anytime he's not shooting the ball is a plus for us.
• 1:31:33
Mike again congratulations. Thank you for coming by. Thank you very much. Mike Reardon one of the better men of the New York Knicks and out of Ohio State. Phil Hopske. Bill congratulations to you.
• 1:31:46
Thank you very much, Marv. This is really an emotional experience but it was a great year.
• 1:31:51
Now as one who has been a part of the United States Olympic Championship how would you relate the two?
• 1:31:57
Oh this is completely different. The Olympics, no champagne at the Olympics. It's too clean.
• 1:32:03
  True, true.
• 1:32:04
No but it's great. I tell you I've really been fortunate in my career. Donnie and I were talking in high school and college. The Olympics are now here in New York in my second year and I'm telling you it makes the entire year worthwhile.
• 1:32:17
Of course maybe you want to play more at times but winning the championship was the big thing and I thought it felt fabulous.
• 1:32:23
We had Jim O'Brien the sports writer of the New York Post on at halftime and Jim was talking about the tremendous emotional effect brought forth by the crowd and it was really evident tonight.
• 1:32:36
I think it was definitely. I think they did such a great job to get Willis up for the game. All that cheering and the ovations that he received for just coming out and making the effort.
• 1:32:45
I think it psyched us up and I know it psyched Willis up to the point where he thought he had to play. He was going to anyway but I think it just made him realize to the fullest extent that he would rather die than miss this game tonight.
• 1:32:57
That's just the type of thing it was. The fans have been great to us all year and I really think they had a definite effect on this series and especially the Baltimore series.
• 1:33:06
Bill thank you very much and again congratulations.
• 1:33:09
  Thank you Marv very much.
• 1:33:10

• 1:33:24
  Danny congratulations to you.
• 1:33:26
Thank you Marv. This is quite a thrill. It's the biggest thrill of my life.
• 1:33:31
Danny previously was the trainer for the Pittsburgh Pirates. Anything like this in Pittsburgh?
• 1:33:37
It was never like this Marv believe me. This is the biggest city in the world and everything is big here tonight. Everything.
• 1:33:43
You were probably as close to Willis and the injury situation as anybody was. What were your thoughts before the ball came? Did you think that he had a chance to play it off?
• 1:33:53
Well truthfully Marv after the game the other night in Los Angeles he came back with us on the airplane right after the game. It was just Willis, Dr. Park and myself.
• 1:34:02
And after we arrived in New York Willis and I came to the garden and we worked for three hours.
• 1:34:11
And when I went home yesterday I was sure he was going to play tonight.
• 1:34:15
Well Willis said if he had to hobble around on one knee no question about it. He was going to play basketball which has got to do a lot for the club.
• 1:34:22
That's right. Willis' appearance on the court this evening won us the ball again. There's no question about it.
• 1:34:28
Danny thank you for coming by and I know you want to get back to the celebration.
• 1:34:32
  Thank you Marv.
• 1:34:33

The next of the world champions of basketball. They defeated the Lakers at the garden this evening 113 tonight at eye to take it in game number seven.
• 1:34:53
And it will mean that the players will split up $118,000. And now the fans start to sense victory.
• 1:35:01
As Bradley puts one up DeBusha gets the ball out to Barnett. Barnett Bradley DeBusha and just to floor it on they have finished the first team all year.
• 1:35:15
And they're just moving it around. Frazier has it. DeBusha DeFrazier beautiful teamwork.
• 1:35:25
Jerry West is fouled by Nate Bowman. And there are two Laker players who we know are frustrated. Elton Baylor who has tried seven times and this man a superstar Jerry West six tries to no avail.
• 1:35:53
So with eight seconds to go it's 113 to 98. And it's heads off to the New York Knickerbockers defense.
• 1:36:05
And now four seconds three two one we have a new NBA champion. 24 long years.
• 1:36:27
And I know that Mr. Ned Irish who started college doubleheaders to get the basketball interest going in New York in the mid 30s then started the Knickerbockers and he and Irving Mitchell fell.
• 1:36:40
Elvin Kuperman and all of them here they must be delighted.
