- 0:00Speaker 1: Sutton to Withrow. Sport and State were presented by Hard Rock.
- 0:03Speaker 2: Bet.
- 0:04Speaker 1: Accidents don't wait for great timing. One bad moment, a wreck,
- 0:08Speaker 1: a fall, a doctor who wasn't paying attention. Suddenly you're
- 0:10Speaker 1: fighting an insurance company that does this every single day.
- 0:14Speaker 1: And that's why Clay started Clay Travis Law. He's a
- 0:17Speaker 1: Vanderbilt Law grad. Built a firm around the idea that
- 0:20Speaker 1: people deserve someone willing to pay attention. Ask the hard
- 0:23Speaker 1: questions and push back when things aren't adding up. Experienced
- 0:27Speaker 1: trial attorneys. They bring the fight to corporations and insurers.
- 0:30Speaker 1: And Chad, they're based in Nashville, trusted across the country.
- 0:34Speaker 3: That's right.
- 0:34Speaker 1: Car and truck wrecks, rideshare accidents, medical malpractice, premises liability,
- 0:38Speaker 1: product liability. If you were wrong, they want to hear
- 0:40Speaker 1: about it. Here's what they promise.
- 0:42Speaker 3: Honesty.
- 0:42Speaker 1: They don't sugarcoat your case. You'll hear what it's actually worth,
- 0:45Speaker 1: not what you want to hear. Case evaluation is free.
- 0:47Speaker 1: No charge, no pressure, no hassle. Just tell them your
- 0:49Speaker 1: story and go to claytravislaw.com or call them at 877-222-4444.
- 0:52Speaker 1: That's claytravislaw.com. No case is too big or too small. Hey,
- 1:00Speaker 1: before we get to primary complaint, we are going to
- 1:02Speaker 1: be in Knoxville on Friday night. God's country, Hutton. Friday
- 1:07Speaker 1: night at Dixieland Delight Friday night. Back home, Hutton. Back home.
- 1:11Speaker 3: Coming home, baby.
- 1:12Speaker 1: Your second home, Wagon Wheel. 815 Eastern in Knoxville. You
- 1:17Speaker 1: join us as we pregame for Alabama and Tennessee. Uh, and, uh,
- 1:23Speaker 1: we've got the next round guys will be there in Gatlinburg. Well,
- 1:26Speaker 1: I'll be joining with them on Friday morning as well. So, uh,
- 1:30Speaker 1: plenty of coverage here at sport and state. We're back
- 1:32Speaker 1: on the road. We're back in Knoxville. We're back in
- 1:34Speaker 1: Chad's backyard, uh, Knoxville, Tennessee, Rocky top as the Vols battle,
- 1:39Speaker 1: the Crimson tide on the third Saturday of October. Looking
- 1:41Speaker 1: forward to it, man. Last time I was there for
- 1:43Speaker 1: this 2022 where, uh, we should get this back and
- 1:47Speaker 1: we should play this clay in the back of the truck. Uh,
- 1:52Speaker 1: talking about the win over Alabama. I think Friday, Hutton,
- 1:55Speaker 1: we need to play that.
- 1:56Speaker 3: Absolutely.
- 1:56Speaker 1: You're going to be there. I'm not going to be
- 1:58Speaker 1: with you on Friday, but you're going to be there
- 1:59Speaker 1: in Gatlinburg doing the show. You should definitely play.
- 2:02Speaker 3: That on Friday.
- 2:02Speaker 1: Yeah, I totally forgot about that. And you are a
- 2:04Speaker 1: good luck charm. I feel like the times that you've
- 2:07Speaker 1: been in Knoxville, the Vols have come away with a
- 2:09Speaker 1: huge win. So maybe that'll happen again for Tennessee in 2026.
- 2:13Speaker 1: I mean, Josh Heupel, you know, right now is two
- 2:17Speaker 1: and three overall against Alabama, which is a spectacular record.
- 2:21Speaker 1: And Compared to the previous years with Nick Saban at
- 2:24Speaker 1: the helm for Alabama. And he's 2-0 at home. Okay,
- 2:27Speaker 1: I was going to say 2-0 at home. So DeBoer, okay.
- 2:31Speaker 1: 2-0 at home is what the record is. That's great.
- 2:33Speaker 1: It's 1-1 against DeBoer. So they won in 2024 against DeBoer. 2022,
- 2:37Speaker 1: you saw the win against Saban.
- 2:39Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah.
- 2:39Speaker 1: And the last chance against Saban in Neyland. That was
- 2:43Speaker 1: an insane game. Last year, of course, Tennessee's going in
- 2:45Speaker 1: to make it a game. And Joey Aguilar throws a
- 2:47Speaker 1: 99-yard pick-six shot. on the last play of the first half,
- 2:50Speaker 1: and then Alabama runs away with it. That might be
- 2:53Speaker 1: the greatest game I've ever seen from a quarterback who
- 2:55Speaker 1: lost in Bryce Young that night.
- 2:58Speaker 3: That was incredible.
- 2:59Speaker 1: It was an unbelievable spectacle. It was just every swing
- 3:03Speaker 1: of that game, and then late, and you think Alabama's
- 3:06Speaker 1: going to win it, and then the Tennessee takes a shot,
- 3:09Speaker 1: then they got a field goal to win it. As
- 3:12Speaker 1: the kids say, absolute cinema, start to finish, especially with
- 3:15Speaker 1: Tennessee winning that game. It's one of the highlights of
- 3:18Speaker 1: my sports life, having been there to witness that. And
- 3:21Speaker 1: maybe we'll see some more magic on Saturday, but it's
- 3:23Speaker 1: going to be a magical weekend. Friday, you'll be in Gatlinburg,
- 3:26Speaker 1: where the next round live is going to be broadcasting.
- 3:29Speaker 1: So one show in the morning to the other show
- 3:31Speaker 1: in the morning, and then we'll be live 8.15 Central Time,
- 3:33Speaker 1: 9.15 Eastern, 8.15 Eastern. Yeah, okay. 7.15 Central Time, I
- 3:38Speaker 1: think is the time, actually. And we'll be on from
- 3:41Speaker 1: Wagon Wheel in the Old City.
- 3:42Speaker 3: Can't wait, Hutton.
- 3:43Speaker 1: It's going to be awesome. We will not be complaining.
- 3:46Speaker 1: on Saturday or Friday, for that matter. But we do
- 3:48Speaker 1: complain on Wednesdays. It's time for primary complaint. Guys, as
- 3:53Speaker 1: JT also joins us here in a moment, my primary
- 3:58Speaker 1: complaint this week is the lack of consistency in literally
- 4:02Speaker 1: anything in Nashville. In old fashions. If it's a restaurant's
- 4:08Speaker 1: version of an old fashion, a new fashion, nothing tastes
- 4:12Speaker 1: the same. There's no consistency. Pizza tastes Can we find
- 4:15Speaker 1: some good pizza anywhere in Tennessee that's consistent? No. There's
- 4:21Speaker 1: nothing that really stacks together that is always the same,
- 4:24Speaker 1: regardless of who's making it, serving it, providing it, producing it.
- 4:28Speaker 1: It's all different, even though on the menu it says
- 4:32Speaker 1: it's supposed to be a certain level of quality, standard,
- 4:36Speaker 1: or expectation. That's my primary complaint. Yeah, there's got to
- 4:40Speaker 1: be a baseline. There's got to be a baseline of service,
- 4:43Speaker 1: a baseline product, a baseline of something. You can't have
- 4:46Speaker 1: these wild swings of quality, of consistency. I'll give you
- 4:51Speaker 1: an example of that. We're eating out every night for
- 4:53Speaker 1: dinner here at the beach. I've had a chance to
- 4:56Speaker 1: go to a lot of restaurants. The lack of consistency
- 4:59Speaker 1: in silverware distribution to the table really blows my mind.
- 5:05Speaker 1: Because everywhere we've gone so far, I feel like after
- 5:08Speaker 1: appetizers come out, we're having to ask for silverware that
- 5:11Speaker 1: should already be there when we're set. You're right. This
- 5:15Speaker 1: is how the process should go. When they're getting a
- 5:17Speaker 1: table ready or clearing it, put silverware down for the
- 5:20Speaker 1: amount of people that's in that party to sit down
- 5:22Speaker 1: and have silverware there. Instead, it's like, hey, go run
- 5:26Speaker 1: and grab that table. We're not going to do anything
- 5:28Speaker 1: to it. Our waiter's going to come over and immediately
- 5:30Speaker 1: start getting drink orders and appetizers ordered. We're not even
- 5:32Speaker 1: going to worry about silverware. And then once we give
- 5:35Speaker 1: you silverware, we're going to be in a dead sprint
- 5:38Speaker 1: to get that silverware off the table immediately. Like I
- 5:41Speaker 1: would be fine using the same fork I use for
- 5:44Speaker 1: appetizers for my main course.
- 5:45Speaker 3: Me too.
- 5:46Speaker 1: If you left it there at the table.
- 5:47Speaker 3: If you leave it.
- 5:48Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 5:49Speaker 1: But instead I'm like, look, if there's a dishwasher issue.
- 5:52Speaker 1: or you don't want to be cycling through so much silverware,
- 5:55Speaker 1: I'm fine to keep this silverware. What I would prefer
- 5:58Speaker 1: is that when I sit at the table, the silverware
- 6:00Speaker 1: is there waiting on me, so it's ready for whatever
- 6:03Speaker 1: we're eating before the main course comes out. Instead, it's like, oh,
- 6:07Speaker 1: we're going to wait forever to give you the silverware,
- 6:09Speaker 1: and then once you get done with one bite of something,
- 6:11Speaker 1: we're going to be coming trying to grab that. And
- 6:13Speaker 1: then I'm going to ask for new silverware that you're
- 6:15Speaker 1: not going to bring out immediately because you're trying to
- 6:17Speaker 1: get that off the table so quick. Consistency. consistency of
- 6:21Speaker 1: the delivery of the silverware. It needs to be there
- 6:24Speaker 1: when you sit down at the table, not after. I
- 6:27Speaker 1: shouldn't be having to ask for it. And then, hey,
- 6:29Speaker 1: just let me hold on to it. I'm fine now
- 6:31Speaker 1: that I see there's some issue with your dishwasher going
- 6:34Speaker 1: on that I'm just going to hold on to this
- 6:35Speaker 1: set right now. You don't have to take it off
- 6:37Speaker 1: my plate.
- 6:38Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 6:39Speaker 1: And also like the napkin, a straw, if someone wants
- 6:44Speaker 1: a straw. You and I don't, but many do. Everyone
- 6:46Speaker 1: has to ask for it. It's never just given. It's
- 6:49Speaker 1: The whole thing is bizarre to me. I agree. And also,
- 6:52Speaker 1: just forget about asking for a condiment to come out
- 6:55Speaker 1: with it. You're going to ask again once they do it. Now,
- 6:58Speaker 1: sometimes the server is smart enough to know, oh, I
- 6:59Speaker 1: didn't get your blue cheese or whatever. I need to
- 7:02Speaker 1: go get your blue cheese. They look down at your
- 7:04Speaker 1: plate and see it, and they're reminded when they see
- 7:06Speaker 1: that it's not there. But most of the time, you're
- 7:08Speaker 1: just going to ask for it again because they're not
- 7:09Speaker 1: really even listening. It's like someone requesting light ice during
- 7:12Speaker 1: a big order where it's just not going to be
- 7:14Speaker 1: honored at all. I feel like that way when I
- 7:16Speaker 1: ask a server. I'm on that guy's show today. What?
- 7:20Speaker 1: I'm on this show today. Light ice. Oh, nice. Good.
- 7:23Speaker 1: Drink something with light ice in honor of me, please.
- 7:25Speaker 1: I'll try to bring something up describing the Titans. They're
- 7:28Speaker 1: very light ice. JT.
- 7:33Speaker 4: Guys, this all started because my 10-year-old, for some reason,
- 7:39Speaker 4: has become obsessed with Avatar, wants contact lenses to be blue,
- 7:44Speaker 4: like even non-prescription just contact lenses. She does wear contacts
- 7:48Speaker 4: and glasses, but I'm.
- 7:51Speaker 3: Blind as a bat.
- 7:53Speaker 4: I've worn glasses, contacts since I was probably 10 or
- 7:56Speaker 4: 12 years old. My prescription, though, for both contacts and
- 8:00Speaker 4: glasses haven't changed in years.
- 8:03Speaker 3: I know when I have issues seeing, right?
- 8:05Speaker 4: If something's not right, I'll go to the eye doctor
- 8:07Speaker 4: and say.
- 8:07Speaker 3: Hey, let's get a prescription. Let's get a checkup.
- 8:11Speaker 4: I also love my dentist, but you know what I
- 8:13Speaker 4: don't have to do when I want to go buy
- 8:15Speaker 4: a toothbrush? toothpaste or floss, I don't have to go
- 8:19Speaker 4: to my dentist to get a prescription for that.
- 8:21Speaker 3: So I have a prescription for my horrible eyes, but.
- 8:25Speaker 4: When I run out of contacts and I have to
- 8:27Speaker 4: go back to the eye doctor, have my eye exam,
- 8:30Speaker 4: have them tell me everything looks the same as it
- 8:33Speaker 4: has the last 10 years, but by God, my prescription
- 8:36Speaker 4: is 18 months old. So I'm not able to purchase contacts.
- 8:40Speaker 4: The fact that my prescription is only good for 12
- 8:42Speaker 4: months at the eye doctor is is my primary complaint.
- 8:46Speaker 1: And the eye's dilated, too, every time.
- 8:51Speaker 2: Oh, of course.
- 8:51Speaker 4: For an additional $ 125, we can take care of this.
- 8:53Speaker 4: I've got a new primary complaint, by the way. It's
- 8:56Speaker 4: this guy riding around down here. He's not even mowing.
- 8:59Speaker 1: I don't know what's happening, but someone's just riding some
- 9:03Speaker 1: sort of vehicle. I don't know if they're seating the
- 9:06Speaker 1: lawn next to me at this condo complex. He's getting
- 9:09Speaker 1: further away from me now, so I should be okay,
- 9:11Speaker 1: but I'm like, he's just going around in circles. on
- 9:14Speaker 1: something while he's listening to something. Is it a zero-turn mower?
- 9:18Speaker 1: It's probably somebody who just stole it. It's like a
- 9:21Speaker 1: zero-turn mower with a hauler in the front of it
- 9:24Speaker 1: where it's got something in there. It almost looks like
- 9:26Speaker 1: something someone would do with seating, but I don't see...
- 9:29Speaker 1: where he's even seeding anything, and now he's just driving
- 9:31Speaker 1: off into the distance.
- 9:32Speaker 4: Definitely no question about is that a green screen behind
- 9:35Speaker 4: you or not if we're having to deal with this.
- 9:37Speaker 1: Yeah, no doubt. This guy needs to get out of here.
- 9:39Speaker 1: He needs to get out of here quickly. If he doesn't,
- 9:42Speaker 1: I'll be moving inside. JT's going to relate to this too.
- 9:44Speaker 1: Remember when Terry Porch and the field crew for the
- 9:47Speaker 1: Titans would always, right when we would go on air post-practice,
- 9:50Speaker 1: would come up right next to the broadcast and just loud,
- 9:54Speaker 1: just extremely loud. It's like, you've got the entire field
- 9:58Speaker 1: over here. like can we can we talk to uh
- 10:02Speaker 1: can we talk to Delaney Walker in peace you know
- 10:06Speaker 1: without JT was probably uh throwing stuff in the studio
- 10:10Speaker 1: at that time yes yeah uh JT well done and
- 10:13Speaker 1: with the blue context does she have the blue context.
- 10:16Speaker 4: So we're going to get some. Apparently you can buy
- 10:20Speaker 4: non-prescription contacts. If you have a prescription, there's 1-800-contacts.com. So yeah,
- 10:26Speaker 4: we'll be able to get that for like 60 bucks for,
- 10:29Speaker 4: I think, two contacts. Absolutely ridiculous. I was so angry
- 10:32Speaker 4: at my wife who bought those last night. But at
- 10:35Speaker 4: least the 10-year-old will be happy.
- 10:37Speaker 1: I mean, I had LASIK. Have you considered that?
- 10:40Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 10:41Speaker 1: I've had zero issues with LASIK. I've had LASIK, too,
- 10:43Speaker 1: and I love it.
- 10:46Speaker 4: There's not enough alcohol to lay me down to have
- 10:50Speaker 4: my eyes open and needles just shot in my eyeball.
- 10:52Speaker 1: It is kind of weird.
- 10:53Speaker 3: It is weird. I'm good.
- 10:55Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 10:56Speaker 3: Thanks, guys.
- 10:57Speaker 1: Yeah, Chad and I endorse it. Good to see you, JT.
- 10:59Speaker 1: Pop on anytime, man. Pop on anytime. Chad, we've got
- 11:02Speaker 1: a lot to get to. Let's talk about the quarterback
- 11:04Speaker 1: situation at Tennessee with the idea that Brandon could be
- 11:09Speaker 1: on his way back sooner rather than later. I thought
- 11:11Speaker 1: this was the reverse and where it was going to
- 11:14Speaker 1: be a little while. We'll discuss that plus the matchups
- 11:17Speaker 1: across the SEC. Headlines with a great pregame speech at UCLA.
- 11:24Speaker 1: Much more. It's all straight ahead here on How to Withdraw.
- 11:27Speaker 1: You know, you get ready each morning for the day.
- 11:29Speaker 1: It's a cup of coffee. David Crockett. Crockett coffee. Started
- 11:34Speaker 1: by Clay Travis, Buck Sexton, and... Bucks Brother Mason. Named
- 11:39Speaker 1: after David Crockett, hunter, storyteller, patriot, backwoods legend, and it
- 11:43Speaker 1: tells you everything you need to know here about the attitude. 100%
- 11:46Speaker 1: pure Arabica. High-altitude beans. Small batch, roasted. It's right here
- 11:51Speaker 1: in America, in Tennessee, heart of the country. It ships fresh, roasted.
- 11:54Speaker 1: It's not sitting on a warehouse shelf for six months. Light, medium, dark. Decaf, organic.
- 12:00Speaker 1: Even a mushroom blend. Whole beans, brown, K-cups. However you
- 12:03Speaker 1: want it in the morning. However Chad wants it. However
- 12:06Speaker 1: you want it. That's a great slogan right there. However
- 12:09Speaker 1: you want it, they're going to give it to you
- 12:10Speaker 1: at David Crockett Coffee. Set up a subscription. It shows
- 12:13Speaker 1: up on your schedule. Change and cancel at any time

- 12:23Speaker 1: for the families of fallen service members and for catastrophically
- 12:26Speaker 1: injured vets and first responders. Good coffee, made in America,
- 12:30Speaker 1: doing some good. CrockettCoffee.com. That's Crockett.com. C-R-O-C-K-E-T-T, coffee.com. I'm enjoying
- 12:37Speaker 1: some with the Gulf of America behind me right now.
- 12:41Speaker 1: Feeling about as American as it gets right now, Hutton.
- 12:43Speaker 1: Very patriotic. About to go watch the Blue Angels do
- 12:46Speaker 1: their thing. I mean, this is a hell of an
- 12:48Speaker 1: American Wednesday we got going on right here. That's right.
- 12:52Speaker 1: Just as intended. Let's talk some ball. Hutton and Withrow
- 12:56Speaker 1: presented by Hard Rock Bet. Glad you're with us this morning.
- 12:58Speaker 1: Share the link if you're watching on YouTube. Hope you'll
- 13:00Speaker 1: do that. Hope you'll like and subscribe to the channel.
- 13:03Speaker 1: So Faison Brandon, Chad, could he play? Could we see
- 13:07Speaker 1: him start? We've got the report here. Pete Thamel, Faison Brandon.
- 13:14Speaker 1: I've been told by sources that Faison Brandon has experienced
- 13:16Speaker 1: an uptick in practice reps. No decision is imminent on
- 13:19Speaker 1: who will start in the game. Is this gamesmanship or
- 13:22Speaker 1: is this legit? I would be very surprised if George
- 13:26Speaker 1: McIntyre is not the starter on Saturday, the first one
- 13:29Speaker 1: out of the gates to start this football game. I'll
- 13:32Speaker 1: also say that Josh Heupel has now gone out of
- 13:35Speaker 1: his way to act like it was not because of
- 13:39Speaker 1: performance as to how he exited the game against Auburn.
- 13:43Speaker 1: And he wasn't pulled. He was injured. There's no talk
- 13:47Speaker 1: of injury because he never talks about injuries. There's no
- 13:49Speaker 1: talk about injury. He was never on an injury report
- 13:52Speaker 1: that week leading into Auburn. And then suddenly in the
- 13:55Speaker 1: Auburn game, well, he's been battling some injuries and that
- 13:58Speaker 1: affected him. So now he's healthy. So, guys, he wasn't benched.
- 14:02Speaker 1: He was benched for performance. Now, I think the injury
- 14:06Speaker 1: contributed to it, that he suffered against Texas, but he
- 14:08Speaker 1: was benched because of performance. You thought he was good
- 14:11Speaker 1: enough to go, even though he didn't practice the week
- 14:13Speaker 1: leading up to Auburn. He clearly wasn't. He needed that preparation.
- 14:17Speaker 1: Like any 18-year-old quarterback would need a week of preparation
- 14:20Speaker 1: going into a game. It showed against Auburn. And people
- 14:24Speaker 1: are very upset about this. They've got very strong feelings
- 14:27Speaker 1: about McIntyre or Brandon right now, either or. My contention
- 14:32Speaker 1: is they need both of these guys. And if Faison
- 14:34Speaker 1: Brandon is healthy, there is nothing wrong, to me, with
- 14:38Speaker 1: having some packages where he plays in this football game.
- 14:41Speaker 3: He should.
- 14:41Speaker 1: On Saturday. He should.
- 14:43Speaker 2: Right?
- 14:43Speaker 1: If McIntyre throws an interception early or he looks sluggish
- 14:47Speaker 1: at any time, you can go with Brandon for a bit.
- 14:49Speaker 1: Have some packages where Faison Brandon can add some things
- 14:52Speaker 1: to the run game. Yes. Against Alabama in this game.
- 14:55Speaker 1: There's a lot of different things Tennessee can do. But
- 14:57Speaker 1: my main point, we're halfway through the season now, which
- 15:00Speaker 1: is crazy, by the way. already halfway through the college
- 15:02Speaker 1: football season. But we got the back half of the
- 15:04Speaker 1: season left. Tennessee is going to need both those guys
- 15:06Speaker 1: to play at different times, whether it be because of
- 15:09Speaker 1: performance or injury or something. They need both in this
- 15:13Speaker 1: 2026 season. You're likely not going to have both in 2027.
- 15:17Speaker 1: It's going to be one or the other. And I
- 15:19Speaker 1: know that fans want to get to that next thing
- 15:22Speaker 1: already and who's going to be the guy and where's
- 15:23Speaker 1: Tennessee going to invest and all that. I understand some
- 15:26Speaker 1: of that. But if you're Josh Heupel and you're looking
- 15:28Speaker 1: out for 2026, which you should be, right now and
- 15:31Speaker 1: for each game of the 2026 season, you need both
- 15:33Speaker 1: guys to get healthy and be available in each game.
- 15:37Speaker 1: And I'd like to see both the quarterbacks play on Saturday.
- 15:41Speaker 1: I can't wait to watch and see what Heupel does.
- 15:43Speaker 1: Will he have a quick trigger if one of the
- 15:46Speaker 1: two starts to play bad? If it's not about performance,
- 15:51Speaker 1: then he's going to have to back that up. It's
- 15:54Speaker 1: a weird situation because the player knows. The player knows.
- 15:58Speaker 1: But the protection is there through Hypo. We wouldn't expect
- 16:01Speaker 1: anything different. Hey, how about this? The fifth straight AP
- 16:04Speaker 1: Top 15 matchup between these two programs. Chad, to me,
- 16:09Speaker 1: this directly points to NIL and the fact that Tennessee,
- 16:14Speaker 1: over the course of the last five years or so,
- 16:16Speaker 1: has jumped in and they've been able to dive in
- 16:19Speaker 1: headfirst through Spire, through the university, through funding, through Hypel.
- 16:24Speaker 1: They have always been first and tried to be the
- 16:29Speaker 1: leader in whatever, like paying Nico. I hadn't seen $ 2
- 16:34Speaker 1: million for a guy out of high school. They did it.
- 16:37Speaker 1: And meanwhile, Alabama, they didn't jump in initially. They had Saban.
- 16:43Speaker 1: And now they're starting to crank things back up. I
- 16:46Speaker 1: think that has allowed the rest of the pack to
- 16:48Speaker 1: kind of get rid of the separation between the top
- 16:52Speaker 1: and then the next tier. And we finished the Saban
- 16:54Speaker 1: documentary here at the beach last night.
- 16:56Speaker 3: Oh, yeah.
- 16:56Speaker 1: Part six. Really well done. I really enjoyed it. It
- 16:59Speaker 1: also illustrates what you're talking about. Nick Saban was very
- 17:04Speaker 1: uncomfortable in the NFL because guys had more power. They
- 17:07Speaker 1: were making more money than the head coach at times.
- 17:09Speaker 1: He did not like that. He didn't like when the
- 17:12Speaker 1: balance of power shifted a bit. And he always talks
- 17:14Speaker 1: about they losing the semifinal in the Rose Bowl to Michigan.
- 17:18Speaker 1: And then the next day, guys are in his office
- 17:20Speaker 1: asking for more money or they're going to transfer. And
- 17:22Speaker 1: that's what ended up leading to him leaving the sport
- 17:25Speaker 1: as a coach and retiring. And Tennessee did embrace that fully.
- 17:29Speaker 1: And it helped Tennessee get their footing in this rivalry again,
- 17:32Speaker 1: which that's where they are now. This is more of
- 17:34Speaker 1: a back-and-forth affair the last four or five years between
- 17:38Speaker 1: Tennessee and Alabama because Tennessee was an early adopter of
- 17:41Speaker 1: where the sport was headed for NIL. So, yeah, there's
- 17:45Speaker 1: a little bit of old school with the new school
- 17:47Speaker 1: in this, but you know that Kalen DeBoer is going
- 17:51Speaker 1: to be okay with spending money on the roster. I
- 17:54Speaker 1: think Alabama's becoming more around to it, but just looking
- 17:58Speaker 1: at where this rivalry was... It's crazy, those top 15
- 18:03Speaker 1: matchups that we're talking about. But some of those point spreads,
- 18:06Speaker 1: can we show that tweet again, guys, when you look
- 18:09Speaker 1: at this? We're talking about, man, Alabama might be a 7.5, 8.5,
- 18:12Speaker 1: maybe even a double-digit favorite. In 2017, Alabama was a
- 18:14Speaker 1: 34-point favorite. Wow. They were a 29-point favorite in 2011.
- 18:24Speaker 1: They were a 28-point favorite in 2013. Look at the
- 18:28Speaker 1: last sentence. And I just watched the documentary detailing all
- 18:31Speaker 1: these years. 2011-2012 was back-to-back national championships for Alabama. 2013
- 18:37Speaker 1: was Butch Jones' first year. Of course, 2011, Derek Dooley
- 18:41Speaker 1: was there. And then 2017 was the end of the
- 18:45Speaker 1: Butch Jones era in Knoxville, giving way to Jeremy Pruitt.
- 18:50Speaker 1: And they covered all those spreads, Bama did. It just
- 18:54Speaker 1: wasn't a rivalry, you know, for so many years because
- 18:56Speaker 1: Alabama had Nick Saban and Tennessee had a revolving door
- 18:59Speaker 1: of failed coaches. And then Heupel and, you know, again,
- 19:03Speaker 1: like the NIL, they've really benefited. It's more about Tennessee
- 19:07Speaker 1: than Bama, you know, about where we are. And they've
- 19:10Speaker 1: closed the gap. They haven't slammed the door, but they've
- 19:14Speaker 1: closed the gap. I mean, that's credit there. I mean, again,
- 19:17Speaker 1: that factors into Saturday. It's only, what is it, seven
- 19:19Speaker 1: and a half right now? Seven and a half, yep.
- 19:22Speaker 2: Okay.
- 19:22Speaker 1: Yeah, look, this is the way in a lot of
- 19:25Speaker 1: rivalries that are longstanding. Fan bases always say this, what
- 19:28Speaker 1: have we done wrong? How have we fallen off? How
- 19:31Speaker 1: has this team caught us? And sometimes it's just, hey,
- 19:34Speaker 1: the other team made a good hire and they've invested
- 19:36Speaker 1: or they've made some smart decisions. They got good coordinators
- 19:39Speaker 1: and they got a lot better. It's not always something
- 19:42Speaker 1: you fail to do. Yeah, that's right. As a program,
- 19:44Speaker 1: sometimes teams around you just get better. I've said it before,
- 19:47Speaker 1: I'll say it again. Tennessee football has been at its best.
- 19:50Speaker 1: when alabama is tripping over themselves uh with ncaa sanctions
- 19:55Speaker 1: or hires and georgia doesn't get it right georgia struggles
- 19:58Speaker 1: when georgia's got a great coach hello kirby smart hello
- 20:02Speaker 1: and when they're getting all the players in state in
- 20:04Speaker 1: georgia uh they struggled when dabbo sweeney had it going
- 20:07Speaker 1: at clemson because suddenly they couldn't go into north carolina
- 20:10Speaker 1: and get guys they want. David Sanders is probably going
- 20:13Speaker 1: to Clemson out of Charlotte, North Carolina, and not Tennessee
- 20:16Speaker 1: if Dabo was playing for national championships every other year
- 20:20Speaker 1: the way he was for a decade. Again, sometimes it's
- 20:24Speaker 1: other people falling off. Sometimes it's you're smarter and gotten
- 20:27Speaker 1: better at what you're doing and have a good system
- 20:29Speaker 1: in place. It's the way the sport works at times.
- 20:32Speaker 1: I'm happy, though, Hutton, we're going back to a game
- 20:34Speaker 1: like this, and you at least go into it feeling
- 20:36Speaker 1: like these are two really good teams. I don't think
- 20:40Speaker 1: Tennessee's passing offense is good at all, but I think
- 20:43Speaker 1: overall they've got good talent, they've got decent depth, they've
- 20:47Speaker 1: got a really good defense, and they're a good football
- 20:49Speaker 1: team that's going to give anybody problems. In Alabama, I
- 20:52Speaker 1: kind of feel like the same way. I think their
- 20:53Speaker 1: offense is really good, but there's some holes there too
- 20:57Speaker 1: in their run defense against good opponents and some other
- 21:00Speaker 1: things that you can look at and say, okay, there's
- 21:02Speaker 1: going to be some opportunities there for Tennessee. Hey, and
- 21:04Speaker 1: speaking of teams who are better, UCLA. Not Kenny Chesney.
- 21:10Speaker 1: But Bobby Chester. We come back and discuss a great
- 21:14Speaker 1: locker room video. And Florida State's in debt. Go figure.
- 21:19Speaker 1: This is Hutton and Withrow. XXXY Athletics, a part of
- 21:24Speaker 1: Sport and State and Hutton and Withrow, founded by Jennifer Say,
- 21:27Speaker 1: former national champion gymnast, former Levi's brand president. She walked
- 21:32Speaker 1: away from a corporate job rather than saying something that
- 21:34Speaker 1: she didn't believe. And she started XXXY Athletics instead. The mission,
- 21:37Speaker 1: in their words, is to empower female athletes and take
- 21:39Speaker 1: a stand for fair competition. And they call it the
- 21:41Speaker 1: T that launched the movement. It's real athletic apparel. It's

- 22:07Speaker 1: you can check out the Hard Rock Bet Sportsbook app
- 22:11Speaker 1: through hardrock.bet.com. Chad, we're starting to see a ton of
- 22:17Speaker 1: personality in coaching. We went through an era where it
- 22:21Speaker 1: was led by goats, the greatest of all time type coaches,
- 22:27Speaker 1: but not personality-wise. They didn't really want to do that.
- 22:31Speaker 1: It was poison. And now there's much more front-facing coaches
- 22:38Speaker 1: It's an alpha quality, but it's more entertaining. They'll sit
- 22:44Speaker 1: up there and they'll put on a show. And we're
- 22:47Speaker 1: seeing more behind-the-scenes access because schools are doing their own thing.
- 22:50Speaker 1: Kirby Smart is leaking his own halftime speeches. It's all
- 22:56Speaker 1: about the online clicks, the exposure. Everyone's doing it, so
- 23:00Speaker 1: everyone else is doing it. But I love the behind-the-scenes
- 23:04Speaker 1: pregame speeches. It takes me back to a high school day.
- 23:08Speaker 1: It's what I envisioned my coach would be doing, my
- 23:11Speaker 1: favorite team's coach would be doing. But UCLA, they get
- 23:16Speaker 1: the victory, and Chesney, the head coach, who's doing a
- 23:20Speaker 1: nice job, man, here's the pregame words. Let me finish
- 23:26Speaker 1: the story.
- 23:27Speaker 2: Mr. Merriam, this dude ends up saying that standing on
- 23:31Speaker 2: the fucking fence about to go in and start the war.
- 23:34Speaker 3: And he wants to make sure.
- 23:37Speaker 1: Nobody has any other thought. No other thought.
- 23:40Speaker 2: Other than that 100% positive we're winning this fucking battle.
- 23:44Speaker 2: And he turns around and says, puts in the votes
- 23:47Speaker 2: that they would have to go home on. And says,
- 23:50Speaker 2: burn the fucking boat.
- 23:52Speaker 1: Burn the fucking boat. There is no way out.
- 23:54Speaker 2: We can't go that way.
- 23:54Speaker 1: We've got to go through.
- 23:56Speaker 2: These other parts. We've got to go that way.
- 23:57Speaker 1: We've got to go that way.
- 23:59Speaker 3: We've got to go that way.
- 23:59Speaker 2: We've got to go that way. We've got to go
- 24:01Speaker 2: that way.
- 24:24Speaker 1: I mean, he's performing.
- 24:26Speaker 3: I love it.
- 24:27Speaker 1: It's a movie. It's a scene. He's following the script.
- 24:34Speaker 1: It's interesting. If you like pregame pep talks and locker
- 24:39Speaker 1: room stuff, you'll love the Saban documentary because they got
- 24:42Speaker 1: a lot of his pregame speeches to the team. He's
- 24:45Speaker 1: saying the halftime to teams and postgame locker room celebrations
- 24:49Speaker 1: are what he's telling his team postgame. You get a
- 24:51Speaker 1: huge flavor of Nick Saban doing that. Bob Chesney is–
- 24:56Speaker 1: I don't know how you don't see that guy and
- 24:57Speaker 1: what he's done at UCLA in year one and think,
- 25:01Speaker 1: this could be my Kurt Cignetti coming from James Madison.
- 25:06Speaker 1: If you are a program out there that has the means–
- 25:11Speaker 1: Florida State is not it, by the way. No. With
- 25:14Speaker 1: the amount of financial problems they're having. They're not the one. But,
- 25:18Speaker 1: I mean, I don't know who– Who would be the
- 25:22Speaker 1: one that says, South Carolina may come open, right? Is
- 25:26Speaker 1: that one that they just go all in?
- 25:28Speaker 3: Wisconsin?
- 25:29Speaker 1: Do you want to come coach in the SEC and
- 25:31Speaker 1: not be a misfit in UCLA playing in the Big Ten?
- 25:34Speaker 1: We know UCLA. I mean, he inherited a– we're joking
- 25:37Speaker 1: about Florida State and their financial problems. UCLA has never
- 25:40Speaker 1: been as bad or worse. It's why Chip Kelly left
- 25:43Speaker 1: because they're sort of a joke of an athletic department
- 25:45Speaker 1: and the way it's been run, they're ADs out. And
- 25:47Speaker 1: he's come in and won immediately. I'm watching that speech.
- 25:51Speaker 1: I'm thinking this guy is a star in college football coaching.
- 25:54Speaker 1: People can laugh at that all they want and say
- 25:56Speaker 1: he's performing. I would follow that guy. And you know
- 25:59Speaker 1: what else? I'd follow his results already and what he
- 26:02Speaker 1: did at JMU and now what he's doing at UCLA.
- 26:06Speaker 1: He is going to be a great coaching hire for someone.
- 26:08Speaker 1: He ain't staying at UCLA for long. I think this
- 26:10Speaker 1: is my point with this. I don't see him getting
- 26:13Speaker 1: locked up at UCLA. He's going to jump to a bigger–
- 26:16Speaker 1: Better program very soon. The ACC would benefit from that
- 26:22Speaker 1: and the Big 12 if they could lock him in.
- 26:24Speaker 1: A huge deal. Or a coach like that. Because, you know,
- 26:29Speaker 1: of course the SEC would be calling. But right now– Hey,
- 26:35Speaker 1: what are Arkansas fans thinking? Oh, my goodness. Watching that
- 26:38Speaker 1: right now. Hutton, have you seen the music video or
- 26:41Speaker 1: the song that was written after the Tennessee-Arkansas game by
- 26:44Speaker 1: an Arkansas fan?
- 26:44Speaker 3: No, no, no.
- 26:45Speaker 1: Coaching for the buyout. I can't get it up. The
- 26:48Speaker 1: chorus in my head, it may be an AI-generated song,
- 26:52Speaker 1: because you've done some of these before, but coaching for
- 26:54Speaker 1: the buyout. And that's the chorus of it. But it's
- 26:57Speaker 1: him punting with a minute 45 left down seven to Tennessee,
- 27:01Speaker 1: and then the whole song is about that moment and
- 27:03Speaker 1: how the coach is just coaching for the buyout at
- 27:05Speaker 1: this point with Ryan Silverfield. But if you watch that
- 27:08Speaker 1: and you're Arkansas, you're thinking, we couldn't outbid UCLA for
- 27:13Speaker 1: this guy? Why don't we go hire this guy? Why
- 27:15Speaker 1: did it have to go from Alex Golish to Ryan Silverfield?
- 27:19Speaker 1: And you see results. When it could have been this
- 27:21Speaker 1: guy that you hire. I mean, there's a lot of
- 27:22Speaker 1: programs out there watching that and seeing UCLA and their
- 27:25Speaker 1: results in year one. Now, we'll see how they do
- 27:27Speaker 1: now because it looks like Nico's out for the year.
- 27:29Speaker 1: He is.
- 27:30Speaker 3: A quarterback.
- 27:31Speaker 1: So it's probably not going to be great for UCLA
- 27:33Speaker 1: moving forward. But still, I mean, going on the road,
- 27:35Speaker 1: even with a backup quarterback, for Oregon and winning that
- 27:39Speaker 1: game or getting that win. Just incredible stuff. Think about
- 27:43Speaker 1: this for like Indiana year one, you know, like you
- 27:46Speaker 1: mentioned with Signetti. The examples of getting instant results, it's
- 27:52Speaker 1: becoming more and more likely. So when you don't see it,
- 27:57Speaker 1: I think it needs to stand out more. Like we
- 28:01Speaker 1: can tie an FSU with this. The fact that they've
- 28:03Speaker 1: got all these buyouts is not my problem. I don't
- 28:06Speaker 1: want to hear about that. if you want an affordable buyout,
- 28:11Speaker 1: fire the guy who wrote that contract immediately. I don't
- 28:15Speaker 1: want to hear this from universities that say they're crying
- 28:17Speaker 1: poor when they set themselves up to pay a coach
- 28:20Speaker 1: to fail. It makes zero sense. And it's not good business.
- 28:26Speaker 3: It's stupid.
- 28:27Speaker 1: So in that sense, stop doing it. Stop being dumb
- 28:31Speaker 1: in terms of the contracts that are way in the
- 28:33Speaker 1: coach's favor and not in the university's. If you're worried
- 28:36Speaker 1: about underfunding a program, you're doing it. Not anyone else.
- 28:45Speaker 1: It's not the coach's problem that you gave him the
- 28:48Speaker 1: buyout of paper. Start looking in the mirror instead of
- 28:53Speaker 1: releasing things to the media. You can't cry poor and
- 28:57Speaker 1: cry circumstances when you're lying in the very grave you dug. Yes.
- 29:01Speaker 1: For yourself with these contracts. They want to blame the
- 29:03Speaker 1: ACC media. I'm totally with you. I do think a
- 29:05Speaker 1: positive development is the SEC has passed that legislation within
- 29:08Speaker 1: their conference that they're going to have uniform NIL deals
- 29:11Speaker 1: and structures for players in their conference. That's going to
- 29:14Speaker 1: be the same for every team, and then they're going
- 29:16Speaker 1: to have some carve-outs for specific programs and what they
- 29:20Speaker 1: can offer within those programs for NIL opportunities. I think
- 29:24Speaker 1: that's smart to get more uniform. They're not saying that
- 29:27Speaker 1: these players aren't going to make millions. They are. Some
- 29:29Speaker 1: of them, and they're going to make a ton of money,
- 29:30Speaker 1: but we're going to get where at least the language
- 29:33Speaker 1: of the contract is similar in terms of eventually not
- 29:36Speaker 1: transferring from SEC school to SEC school. Players and programs
- 29:41Speaker 1: having a little more protection over guys they sign and pay.
- 29:44Speaker 1: I think all that's good. It will say, I am
- 29:47Speaker 1: not an employee. It's going to be in there too. Yes.
- 29:52Speaker 1: That's been reported. Just regardless of that, you also want
- 29:56Speaker 1: to get to where Now we've got a uniform structure
- 29:59Speaker 1: in place for the players. Hey, SEC presidents and ADs,
- 30:03Speaker 1: let's have a uniform structure in place where we don't
- 30:05Speaker 1: have these insane buyouts for coaches who fail. If you
- 30:10Speaker 1: do it, and then you do it, and then I
- 30:12Speaker 1: do it, and then everyone in America does it and
- 30:15Speaker 1: structures it this way, then you're not going to be
- 30:18Speaker 1: tied to something that you can't get out of because
- 30:22Speaker 1: you're worried about losing a coach. You know what else?
- 30:25Speaker 1: That's got to be the next evolution of this, too.
- 30:27Speaker 1: We're hitting the players now in everything of how we've
- 30:29Speaker 1: got to structure that. We've got to structure the coaching
- 30:32Speaker 1: side of this, too, where they can't bounce from one
- 30:34Speaker 1: conference foe to another whenever they want. And where there's
- 30:37Speaker 1: not this ridiculous buyout for losing. Also, though, if you
- 30:41Speaker 1: can't compete with Alabama's offer, then don't compete with Alabama's offer.
- 30:45Speaker 1: If you're mad and upset about the ACC media deal,
- 30:50Speaker 1: then don't do business and get a coach that could
- 30:53Speaker 1: go to Alabama but is using that as a race
- 30:56Speaker 1: season for your media contract. Again, that's not my problem.
- 31:03Speaker 1: That's not the SEC's fault. That's not the ACC's fault.
- 31:07Speaker 1: That's your problem. You dug this grave. I don't feel
- 31:12Speaker 1: sorry for MTSU if they can't make budget. They shouldn't
- 31:16Speaker 1: have to play Tennessee.
- 31:17Speaker 3: In order to do that.
- 31:19Speaker 1: No. It's a business. We've been told for a while
- 31:23Speaker 1: this is a business, and colleges are a business to
- 31:25Speaker 1: an extent. You've got to be able to balance the
- 31:27Speaker 1: books and make budget with your tuition and everything else.
- 31:30Speaker 1: So if this is a business, which is what we're
- 31:33Speaker 1: being told, then operate it like a business. And that
- 31:35Speaker 1: may mean coaches making a little bit less and certainly
- 31:38Speaker 1: making less in a buyout. And yeah, when I see
- 31:40Speaker 1: the Florida State story and I see LSU and how
- 31:43Speaker 1: much they're paying past coaches to walk away and how
- 31:46Speaker 1: much they promised... Lane Kiffin, all that. It's like the
- 31:49Speaker 1: Tim Robinson sketch where he's in the hot dog costume
- 31:52Speaker 1: looking at the Wienermobile crash in the building and asking
- 31:55Speaker 1: who did it and saying he's going to get to
- 31:57Speaker 1: the bottom of it. That's college football. Those are the
- 32:00Speaker 1: leaders of college football all looking around at each other saying, guys,
- 32:04Speaker 1: this is a mess. Who did all this? Who caused
- 32:07Speaker 1: these problems for us? I'm thinking it's you. It's the
- 32:10Speaker 1: dudes in power. I feel the same way about Burke
- 32:12Speaker 1: Nihill in the Titans. Like at some point, you're the
- 32:15Speaker 1: dude in the hot dog costume. And you're asking, why
- 32:18Speaker 1: is this going on and how did it happen? If
- 32:20Speaker 1: you're asking that question, you're wearing the wiener outfit at
- 32:24Speaker 1: that point. Chad, think about this from Florida State's perspective.
- 32:28Speaker 1: There are four, right now, four current coaches who have
- 32:32Speaker 1: won a national title. In terms of Alabama, if you're
- 32:39Speaker 1: not going to pay the coach, if you're going to
- 32:40Speaker 1: reduce the coaching salaries and you're going to reduce... players
- 32:44Speaker 1: are going to cap that. Where's the money going if
- 32:46Speaker 1: you're not going to distribute that back through the player
- 32:48Speaker 1: and coach? And also the value of Saban to Alabama
- 32:53Speaker 1: is huge. He was probably underpaid for what has happened
- 32:58Speaker 1: to Alabama since he got there, right? So I understand
- 33:01Speaker 1: that too. But I'm not cool with seeing what happens
- 33:06Speaker 1: with Texas A & M, the $ 90 million or whatever
- 33:09Speaker 1: it was. And that's where it's all askew. There should
- 33:13Speaker 1: be bonuses, and then there should be less buyout money
- 33:17Speaker 1: for failing, paid to fail. These guys are all upset
- 33:20Speaker 1: about or worried about getting fired. Elko is mentioning Billy's cesspool,
- 33:26Speaker 1: and he just signed a new deal. He signed an extension.
- 33:31Speaker 1: Contracts should work always. This would be my point. Coaches
- 33:35Speaker 1: and administrators, they want to get on, hey, these contracts
- 33:37Speaker 1: don't mean anything. These NIL deals don't mean anything. Guys
- 33:40Speaker 1: can bounce whenever they want. If you want contracts to
- 33:43Speaker 1: be enforced with players, which is totally understandable, by the way.
- 33:47Speaker 1: I would, too, if I were a coach or an administrator.
- 33:49Speaker 1: I'd want them to play out their contract and do
- 33:52Speaker 1: it the right way and give good effort and all that.
- 33:54Speaker 1: It works for coaches, too. A contract should be a contract.
- 33:57Speaker 1: That's the way it is in the NFL. You can't
- 33:59Speaker 1: leave the Seattle Seahawks to go to the Los Angeles
- 34:01Speaker 1: Rams because the Rams offered you more money. or they're
- 34:05Speaker 1: sucking up to you more than your current job. Do
- 34:07Speaker 1: you have a contract or do you not? If you
- 34:09Speaker 1: want to play out your contract and let it end,
- 34:12Speaker 1: then you can go anywhere that you would like. But
- 34:14Speaker 1: this constant tease job of coaches saying, I might go
- 34:18Speaker 1: here or this job might be interested, and the Jimmy
- 34:21Speaker 1: Sexton and his crew getting involved, which I don't blame them.
- 34:24Speaker 1: They're doing their job when they do this the way
- 34:26Speaker 1: it's structured right now. It's got to work all ways.
- 34:29Speaker 1: I want that player contract to be enforced and honored.
- 34:32Speaker 1: And I want the coaches to honor their contracts. If
- 34:34Speaker 1: you're signed, you can't leave. If you get fired because
- 34:37Speaker 1: you suck or you did something stupid, then you could
- 34:40Speaker 1: go get another job eventually. But until then, you are
- 34:43Speaker 1: the employee of that school and that program, and you
- 34:47Speaker 1: can't just up and leave because someone dangled a carrot
- 34:50Speaker 1: in front of your face. The only worry I would
- 34:56Speaker 1: have to concern as a coach is trying to make
- 34:58Speaker 1: sure If I'm a Big Ten or an SEC team
- 35:02Speaker 1: or coach, try to ensure that I am in the
- 35:04Speaker 1: position whenever they go to the Super Conference if that's happening.
- 35:08Speaker 1: Because you don't want to be on the outside looking in.
- 35:10Speaker 1: You want to be in because you're going to get
- 35:12Speaker 1: a huge bump in pay. But other than that, again,
- 35:17Speaker 1: you're going to pay more up front for failing year
- 35:19Speaker 1: by year. Brian Kelly's doing it. He had to actively
- 35:23Speaker 1: look for a job to get paid. Okay. That's all
- 35:28Speaker 1: it took. Meanwhile, we know the radio contracts. Those things
- 35:32Speaker 1: lock you down where you can't do anything. Again, contracts
- 35:37Speaker 1: need to be contracts. It goes all ways, not just
- 35:39Speaker 1: for players. It needs to be a contract for a coach.
- 35:42Speaker 1: And also, the Big Ten and SEC can help each
- 35:44Speaker 1: other out here. If the SEC does this, where you
- 35:46Speaker 1: can't leave for one conference school to the other, the
- 35:48Speaker 1: Big Ten can make it where, hey, you can't leave
- 35:50Speaker 1: for an SEC school. SEC, vice versa, can't leave for
- 35:52Speaker 1: a Big Ten school also. And then suddenly, what have
- 35:55Speaker 1: we done? We've created an NFL-like structure for the main
- 36:00Speaker 1: programs in college football, which is where all of this
- 36:03Speaker 1: probably needs to head at some point anyway. So you're
- 36:06Speaker 1: getting to that level at that point where coaches can't
- 36:09Speaker 1: up and leave whenever they want. Look, it's not going
- 36:12Speaker 1: to stop fans and donors from wanting coaches fired for
- 36:16Speaker 1: poor performance. Right, yeah. That's going to be a part
- 36:19Speaker 1: of it. I'm not saying completely eliminate all buyout. If
- 36:22Speaker 1: you're trying to do the right thing and they fire
- 36:24Speaker 1: you before your contract's up, you can get a little
- 36:26Speaker 1: bit of money, but it's the insane buyout numbers that
- 36:29Speaker 1: we're seeing that lures coaches from one school to the
- 36:32Speaker 1: next so they can leave a program and leave it
- 36:34Speaker 1: behind and go somewhere else. That's what we've got to eliminate. Yep, absolutely.
- 36:38Speaker 1: I've got a brainstorm with you right now, live. Would
- 36:43Speaker 1: you be interested? I think this would be fun. If
- 36:47Speaker 1: I brought forth a weekly deal where we learn why
- 36:53Speaker 1: certain mascots are the mascot of a school. Why is
- 36:57Speaker 1: Texas A & M Aggie? Why are the Tigers the
- 37:00Speaker 1: mascot of LSU? I was looking this up last night.
- 37:04Speaker 1: And it's fascinating. It's not what I, I didn't know
- 37:06Speaker 1: anything about, I know what it's a volunteer, but the
- 37:09Speaker 1: fight song and the, the mascot on all of these
- 37:11Speaker 1: schools are the exact opposite of what I thought they
- 37:14Speaker 1: were in, in like trying to get across for the,
- 37:18Speaker 1: you know, the battle of whatever. I love any and
- 37:20Speaker 1: all educational opportunities. And so I'm all for this. I
- 37:23Speaker 1: love it. And if you watch the Saban documentary, this
- 37:26Speaker 1: actually ties in because they ask him in the first episode,
- 37:29Speaker 1: what is role tied me? And he says, I have
- 37:31Speaker 1: no idea. And he just kind of looks at the
- 37:33Speaker 1: interviewer and says, I'm being honest. I don't know. I
- 37:35Speaker 1: guess the ocean waves coming in and rolling in and
- 37:40Speaker 1: going over people, I don't know what Roll Tide means
- 37:43Speaker 1: or where it comes from. Nick Saban had to admit that,
- 37:47Speaker 1: which is great. So we can explain what Roll Tide
- 37:50Speaker 1: means and where it comes from at some point. Boomer Sooner.
- 37:52Speaker 1: You know, like those things. I don't know why I
- 37:55Speaker 1: went down this rabbit hole last time, but I was like,
- 37:57Speaker 1: that's what it means? Well, the biggest mystery to me
- 37:59Speaker 1: is the War Eagle versus Auburn Tigers.
- 38:02Speaker 3: Agreed.
- 38:02Speaker 1: Deal that i just still even when auburn people explain
- 38:06Speaker 1: it to me i'm like doesn't make any damn sense
- 38:09Speaker 1: or like why why why the two mascots why you
- 38:13Speaker 1: have the the hound for for uh tennessee why is
- 38:16Speaker 1: the why is the collie the mascot or the dog
- 38:19Speaker 1: for uh a and m i yeah the tennessee thing
- 38:22Speaker 1: is their mat their mascot is the vols like it's
- 38:24Speaker 1: in the rifleman is a human form They just happen
- 38:27Speaker 1: to have a dog that wears Tennessee. It's a very
- 38:29Speaker 1: specific dog. That's what I'm saying.
- 38:31Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 38:31Speaker 1: The blue tech.
- 38:32Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 38:32Speaker 1: Yeah. Yeah. But then you have the, the collie and they,
- 38:35Speaker 1: I'm just like, there's, there's a meaning behind all that.
- 38:37Speaker 1: That was for a long time. Again, it's just, I just,
- 38:41Speaker 1: I never even thought about it. They just go along
- 38:43Speaker 1: with the whole tradition of it. So I'm going to
- 38:45Speaker 1: be fine. I think I did. It's the same way
- 38:47Speaker 1: of the big 10 or anywhere. I have no idea
- 38:50Speaker 1: why it's the blue Raiders. Right. No clue. Uh, Probably
- 38:55Speaker 1: not a good reason. They won, by the way, Chad.
- 38:57Speaker 1: They beat Delaware. They beat Delaware. I did watch a
- 39:00Speaker 1: little bit of that. JT was at the game last night.
- 39:03Speaker 1: JT went to the game. What was the attendance like, Jordan?
- 39:08Speaker 3: I can send you guys some video if you'd like.
- 39:12Speaker 4: I think I was one up about 150 folks there.
- 39:16Speaker 1: JT, more or less people that are behind me at
- 39:19Speaker 1: the beach right now. At the MTSU game right now,
- 39:24Speaker 1: I'm doing a visual demonstration. Is this what the crowd
- 39:27Speaker 1: looked like on the 50-yard line like? yeah tuesday night.
- 39:31Speaker 4: Football it was pretty close to that yeah so um
- 39:34Speaker 4: but but they get hutton it's the first they think
- 39:37Speaker 4: they were like a one and a half point dog
- 39:38Speaker 4: and covered so good for the blue raiders and derrick.
- 39:41Speaker 1: Mason i admire these people that are out here at
- 39:45Speaker 1: 8 o'clock in the morning, every morning set up, ready
- 39:47Speaker 1: to go. Because let me tell you about the people
- 39:48Speaker 1: at the beach that are down there that early. They
- 39:51Speaker 1: don't leave. They stake their spot. We go out in shifts.
- 39:56Speaker 1: We go out there about an hour, hour and a
- 39:57Speaker 1: half time, come back up, eat, go back down. And
- 40:00Speaker 1: every time, they're there, they're planted, they've got their home base,
- 40:04Speaker 1: they're drinking Trulies and Miller Lights, and they're there all day.
- 40:09Speaker 1: It's really impressive. That's a post-up. That is a tailgate.
- 40:14Speaker 1: That's a beach tailgate right there. We mentioned that Tennessee
- 40:18Speaker 1: won outright as the underdog. That hit for Hard Rock Bet.
- 40:23Speaker 1: If you played that, I didn't play this, but I
- 40:25Speaker 1: picked the opposite. But we're going to win for the weekend.
- 40:29Speaker 1: We have the bundle. Going for the bundle, Hard Rock Bet,
- 40:33Speaker 1: the weekly segment where we each give one selection. It
- 40:37Speaker 1: turns into our parlay, and we hope you'll roll with
- 40:39Speaker 1: us next.
- 40:41Speaker 3: This year, the party's getting even bigger.
- 40:43Speaker 1: Hey, there's Jay Boyd.
- 40:44Speaker 3: They know me. This party, everybody's somebody. And Hard Rock
- 40:48Speaker 3: Bet has something for everyone.
- 40:50Speaker 4: Plus, new customers bet $ 5 and get up to $ 500
- 40:53Speaker 4: in no-sweat bets.
- 40:56Speaker 1: I love the offer. Up to $ 500 in no-sweat bets.
- 41:00Speaker 1: Bet five. Get up to $ 500 in no-sweat bets. Go
- 41:03Speaker 1: to hardrock.bet.com. Download now. Hardrock.bet.com. Guys, it is time. each
- 41:10Speaker 1: week in honor of the late Mark Howard, it's time
- 41:14Speaker 1: to go for the bundle.
- 41:15Speaker 4: First down smoker back in his own end zone, going
- 41:17Speaker 4: for the bundle. He's got Potter who lays it out
- 41:20Speaker 4: and catches the ball down on the seven. And he's
- 41:23Speaker 4: in for the touchdown.
- 41:24Speaker 2: He was not touched.
- 41:25Speaker 1: He was not touched by the defender. Nate Coggins.
- 41:29Speaker 2: Jeff smoker is a touchdown throwing Inferno.
- 41:32Speaker 3: It's 57 to 49 Nashville.
- 41:35Speaker 1: I love that.
- 41:36Speaker 3: I love it.
- 41:37Speaker 1: I love Mark. Um, Guys, my portion of the bundle
- 41:41Speaker 1: this week, give me the Utes. Utah, minus 14.5 at Colorado.
- 41:47Speaker 1: You may ask why. Well, it's Colorado. That's number one.
- 41:53Speaker 1: Let me start with it's Colorado. Utah's good.
- 41:59Speaker 3: That's the other thing.
- 41:59Speaker 1: The Utes are 6-0 against the spread in their last
- 42:01Speaker 1: six games as a favorite. They are also 5-0 against
- 42:05Speaker 1: the spread following a straight-up win. Let's go. Strike up
- 42:09Speaker 1: the band. They're covering at Colorado. Love this play. Love
- 42:14Speaker 1: the Utes. Don't like Colorado. I love the reasoning just being, well,
- 42:18Speaker 1: why am I doing this? Because I'm going against Colorado.
- 42:20Speaker 1: That's reason enough. I'm going to tell you why I'm
- 42:23Speaker 1: taking Florida to cover 10.5 at Texas. Who are the
- 42:27Speaker 1: Longhorns running away and hiding from in the SEC this year?
- 42:30Speaker 1: They're going to win a bunch of games, but they're
- 42:32Speaker 1: not blowing anybody out. I don't think they're winning by
- 42:35Speaker 1: over 10 points. even at home, against a Florida team
- 42:39Speaker 1: that has struggled mightily the last couple of weeks. I
- 42:42Speaker 1: think Florida kicks it back into gear a bit. I
- 42:45Speaker 1: think their defense plays better. I think Texas wins this game,
- 42:49Speaker 1: but I think I'm going to cover by the hook.
- 42:52Speaker 1: I could see Florida losing 24-14 in this game and
- 42:58Speaker 1: me winning this bet. Give me the Gators plus 10.5
- 43:01Speaker 1: at Texas. I just don't see Texas– blowing anybody out.
- 43:06Speaker 1: The numbers are in our favor. The numbers are in
- 43:09Speaker 1: our favor in all of these bets because, Chad, the
- 43:11Speaker 1: Longhorns 0-4 against the spread in their last four. Let's go.
- 43:16Speaker 1: We've got momentum here. We need to have a bigger
- 43:19Speaker 1: Arch Manning conversation at some point, too, because I'm highly underwhelmed.
- 43:24Speaker 1: Highly underwhelmed. Not a lot of progression from last year
- 43:27Speaker 1: to this year. A very average performance. I agree. JT,
- 43:31Speaker 1: where are we going here for the third round? leg
- 43:34Speaker 1: of the parlay?
- 43:36Speaker 4: 43.5 is the over-under for Kentucky-Oklahoma.
- 43:40Speaker 3: Kind of low.
- 43:41Speaker 4: I think typically these games fall between 50 and 60
- 43:44Speaker 4: points for the over-under. Cats have been lighting up the scoreboard. Obviously,
- 43:49Speaker 4: overtime helps. 34.5 points per game. They're also allowing almost
- 43:55Speaker 4: 30 points per game. Oklahoma's averaging 23 points per game.
- 44:00Speaker 4: Give me the over of 43.5. which is, again, I
- 44:04Speaker 4: think a little bit too low. But our fearless leader
- 44:07Speaker 4: has his locks, and he is taking the under in this.
- 44:13Speaker 3: So we'll see what happens, Clay. You know, I think
- 44:17Speaker 3: he's 8-8 last week, so we'll see.
- 44:19Speaker 4: But I want to go over 43-and-a-half cats and sitters.
- 44:25Speaker 1: I don't hate that pick at all, by the way.
- 44:28Speaker 1: Oklahoma also might block a couple more punts and fall
- 44:30Speaker 1: on it for a touchdown and get some points to
- 44:32Speaker 1: get that over like they were able to against Texas,
- 44:35Speaker 1: which turned out to be the difference in that game.
- 44:37Speaker 1: The Cats are 5-0, their last five against the spread. Again,
- 44:41Speaker 1: we did not plan this, but we have the streaks
- 44:45Speaker 1: here going. The other thing, okay, so here's our bundle.
- 44:48Speaker 1: I've got the overall, if you play the parlay, it's
- 44:50Speaker 1: like $ 5. 25 on a return. If you put $ 5 down, it's...
- 44:55Speaker 1: It's not bad. Let's roll with this. Bet the bundle, hardrock.bet.clay.
- 45:00Speaker 1: You can put five on it, and then you can
- 45:02Speaker 1: play this, and you've got up to $ 500 returned in
- 45:05Speaker 1: no-sweat bets at hardrock.bet.clay. Chad, the Archimedes discussion is fascinating
- 45:14Speaker 1: because it's not like Sark's going to bid you, okay?
- 45:19Speaker 3: But... It's very average.
- 45:22Speaker 1: To me, it's the difference between a championship and not
- 45:25Speaker 1: right now. And that's got to be in the back
- 45:27Speaker 1: of his mind with the rest of the team and
- 45:29Speaker 1: the way they're performing. You know, watching the Saban documentary
- 45:34Speaker 1: and him talking about the decision of bench Jalen Hurts
- 45:37Speaker 1: at halftime.
- 45:38Speaker 3: Yes, I've seen this.
- 45:39Speaker 1: That national championship game until it comes in. It really
- 45:41Speaker 1: is wild when you think back on it because that
- 45:44Speaker 1: guy lost one game as a starting quarterback in two
- 45:47Speaker 1: years at Alabama. And he was struggling. And it showed
- 45:50Speaker 1: some of the misfires in the first half. And it
- 45:54Speaker 1: gets the moment on camera where he tells Hurts and
- 45:57Speaker 1: Tua that Tua's going in. And Hurts, you can tell,
- 46:00Speaker 1: is angry. And he's just sitting there, not saying a word,
- 46:04Speaker 1: looking forward, fuming in that moment, right? I say that
- 46:11Speaker 1: to say, if it helps your team win, you've got
- 46:14Speaker 1: to consider it. And I'm not saying they need to bitch.
- 46:17Speaker 1: Arch Manning right now, but if Nick Saban was able,
- 46:20Speaker 1: and Steve Sarkeesian was on that staff, if Nick Saban
- 46:23Speaker 1: is able to bench Jalen Hurts, who had lost one
- 46:26Speaker 1: football game in two years, and is now a Super
- 46:29Speaker 1: Bowl winning quarterback, for Tua Tungvalu, because he had a
- 46:32Speaker 1: feeling that that team and that offense needed a guy
- 46:35Speaker 1: who was a quicker trigger guy with the football, and
- 46:37Speaker 1: they did, and they ended up winning the game, then
- 46:41Speaker 1: at some point Steve Sarkeesian maybe should think, is this
- 46:43Speaker 1: the best option at quarterback based on what's going on
- 46:46Speaker 1: right now. Again, I have not studied what Texas has
- 46:50Speaker 1: waiting in the wings and all that, and I'm not
- 46:52Speaker 1: saying they should bench him, but point being, if Nick
- 46:54Speaker 1: Saban can do it with Jalen Hurts, anybody can be
- 46:57Speaker 1: benched at any time. Any coach would do this, but
- 47:04Speaker 1: this one just feels like he's going out of his
- 47:05Speaker 1: way when he says if the name wasn't Manning, he
- 47:09Speaker 1: wouldn't be considered this bad.
- 47:12Speaker 3: I'm like, You would. Not us.
- 47:17Speaker 1: That's my response to it. Sark would feel like this
- 47:20Speaker 1: is underwhelming. By the way, Jalen Hurts, what a redemption
- 47:24Speaker 1: story overall. He's great in the documentary, by the way.
- 47:28Speaker 1: The embarrassing point of it, and then to go on
- 47:31Speaker 1: to win a Super Bowl and be a starter for
- 47:33Speaker 1: the Philadelphia Eagles and be better than Tua is ultimately
- 47:39Speaker 1: the way you handle that adversity. Yeah, Heisman finalist at Oklahoma.
- 47:45Speaker 3: It's a great story.
- 47:46Speaker 1: He's awesome in the documentary too. If a guy doesn't
- 47:48Speaker 1: say much in interviews or anything, he's really good on
- 47:50Speaker 1: camera talking about Saban and Alabama. So how many episodes
- 47:55Speaker 1: is this, Chad? And where do you put this in
- 47:59Speaker 1: comparison to The Last Dance? Is it that in-depth? Is
- 48:02Speaker 1: it that behind the scenes? Well, and I'm sure The
- 48:05Speaker 1: Last Dance probably knocked off another documentary in this format,
- 48:08Speaker 1: but they're the best example of The timeline look? Yes, yes. 1998,
- 48:15Speaker 1: then 1978.
- 48:15Speaker 2: Yes.
- 48:16Speaker 1: So they do that throughout of Nick Saban's timeline going
- 48:19Speaker 1: back and forth.
- 48:20Speaker 3: Okay.
- 48:21Speaker 1: The whole thing is about taking the Alabama job and
- 48:23Speaker 1: the dynasty there, but it goes back and forth from
- 48:26Speaker 1: his upbringing in Monongah, West Virginia, to his time as
- 48:30Speaker 1: a player at Kent State, to his coaching career to
- 48:33Speaker 1: Michigan State. The second episode is called Death Valley, and
- 48:37Speaker 1: it's all about his time at LSU, and it's going
- 48:38Speaker 1: back and forth with LSU and the decision to leave.
- 48:41Speaker 1: for the Dolphins and all that. It's really well done.
- 48:44Speaker 1: It's very Last Dance-like, not as good as the Last Dance. Yeah.
- 48:47Speaker 1: I also love the America's Team, the Jerry Jones, Dallas
- 48:50Speaker 1: Cowboys documentary was really good. But this one's very good.
- 48:54Speaker 1: By the way, Arch Manning right now, I'm looking at
- 48:55Speaker 1: a USA Today mock draft.
- 48:57Speaker 2: Yes.
- 48:57Speaker 1: They've got him as the third quarterback taken. They have
- 49:00Speaker 1: Drew Mestemaker from Oklahoma State going to the Titans. They
- 49:04Speaker 1: have Dante Moore going ahead of him to the Arizona Cardinals.
- 49:08Speaker 1: And they have right now Arch Manning as the fifth
- 49:11Speaker 1: overall pick to the New York Jets. Fifth overall? Seems hot.
- 49:17Speaker 1: That's based on the.
- 49:21Speaker 1: That's based on the name, right? His teammates, Colin Simmons,
- 49:26Speaker 1: is number three overall in the draft, and Cam Coleman,
- 49:28Speaker 1: his wide receiver, going seventh overall to the New York Giants.
- 49:32Speaker 1: So three top ten picks on Texas' team currently, according
- 49:36Speaker 1: to this mock draft I'm looking at. Chad, which mock
- 49:41Speaker 1: draft is that? It's a USA Today mock draft. I'm
- 49:44Speaker 1: trying to see who actually did it.
- 49:45Speaker 3: Okay.
- 49:46Speaker 1: That's interesting because of the Cam Ward sentiment nationally. It's like, oh,
- 49:51Speaker 1: give Cam Ward some time. Give Cam Ward some time.
- 49:53Speaker 1: It's like, why does he need the season? Well, it's
- 49:57Speaker 1: solid saying the season, but he says he's going to
- 49:59Speaker 1: get this season. He stumbles over his words post-game. He's like,
- 50:04Speaker 1: he's going to have some time to get this season.
- 50:07Speaker 3: And I.
- 50:08Speaker 1: I think they're reading into that the same way. It's like, okay,
- 50:11Speaker 1: he's going to run out the schedule, and who knows
- 50:14Speaker 1: if the head coach is still going to be here.
- 50:15Speaker 1: Who knows if Brian Dable is going to be here.
- 50:17Speaker 1: But what we do know is this isn't an NFL
- 50:19Speaker 1: starting quarterback for the Tennessee Titans next year based on
- 50:23Speaker 1: the way he's played. I mean, is he really going–
- 50:26Speaker 1: those that think he's going to turn things around, it
- 50:29Speaker 1: won't be here because he's going to have to do
- 50:32Speaker 1: that 12 games. We've seen all these other performances. Are
- 50:36Speaker 1: we going to see all of a sudden just the
- 50:37Speaker 1: light turn on and he's going to be completing 70%
- 50:41Speaker 1: of his passes randomly? He's going to turn into Josh
- 50:43Speaker 1: Allen in 12 games? I'm looking at CBS Sports mock
- 50:46Speaker 1: drafts right now. Two different ones, okay? Ryan Wilson does
- 50:50Speaker 1: not have Arch Manning in the first round at all. Quarterbacks,
- 50:54Speaker 1: first one off the board, he's got Darian Mensah going
- 50:57Speaker 1: to the Cardinals. He's got Trinidad Chambliss going to the Jets.
- 51:00Speaker 1: He's got Dante Moore going to the Falcons. He does
- 51:04Speaker 1: not have– Jade Maiava– 20th overall going to USC. He
- 51:08Speaker 1: does not have Julian Sane going 31st to the Browns.
- 51:13Speaker 1: He does not have Arch Manning in the first round. Now,
- 51:15Speaker 1: Mike Renner, our guy we've had on before, he's the
- 51:18Speaker 1: next mock draft currently at CBS Sports. He's got Arch
- 51:21Speaker 1: Manning going second to the Cardinals. So some various thoughts
- 51:27Speaker 1: on Arch Manning and where he's going to end up
- 51:29Speaker 1: in the NFL. Renner's actually watching college football. So we've
- 51:33Speaker 1: had him on. I don't know about the other guy.
- 51:34Speaker 1: I'm not saying he doesn't watch. I don't know any
- 51:36Speaker 1: of these guys. Ryan Wilson, Josh Edwards. Josh Edwards, the
- 51:39Speaker 1: next guy, has got Arch Manning going first to the
- 51:41Speaker 1: Miami Dolphins overall and Dante Moore going second. These guys
- 51:44Speaker 1: are actually thinking that the Titans are going to win.
- 51:48Speaker 1: Right now, the Titans have the number one overall pick currently. Yeah,
- 51:51Speaker 1: no one's giving the Titans the first pick. That one
- 51:54Speaker 1: guy's got them fifth. They're second in one. They're third
- 51:56Speaker 1: in another. I'm like, well, that's a lot of faith
- 51:58Speaker 1: in this team that they're not going to end up
- 52:00Speaker 1: with the number one overall pick.
- 52:01Speaker 3: I don't... I mean, they.
- 52:02Speaker 1: They have yardage and points in garbage time. All three
- 52:06Speaker 1: of Cam Ward's touchdown passes this year have been in
- 52:08Speaker 1: the fourth quarter. Everything that I see, for the most part,
- 52:13Speaker 1: is Colin Simmons or Jeremiah Smith, number one overall, which
- 52:19Speaker 1: makes sense. Yes. Hey, reminder, on Friday, you can join
- 52:24Speaker 1: us at Wagon Wheel, 815 Eastern. Live show, Dixieland Delight,

- 52:50Speaker 1: It's going to be quite chilly in Knoxville. Football weather
- 52:53Speaker 1: has arrived. Yeah, like 65 or something. It's going to
- 52:55Speaker 1: be like upper 40s at night. into the 50s. So
- 52:59Speaker 1: it's going to be nice fall weather. It's going to
- 53:02Speaker 1: be crisp, cool. It's going to look great on the
- 53:04Speaker 1: field with both teams wearing their home uniforms. Can't wait
- 53:06Speaker 1: to get to Knoxville this weekend hunting. Friday night show
- 53:09Speaker 1: at Wagon Wheel and then all the covers throughout the
- 53:11Speaker 1: weekend leading up to the game. Enjoy the next round

- 53:16Speaker 1: with Roe presented by Hard Rock Bet.
