Transcript
- 0:01[SPEAKER_00]: time for the 49ers rush podcast.
- 0:29[SPEAKER_00]: And here's your host, John Chapman.
- 0:34[SPEAKER_01]: What is going on, faithful?
- 0:36[SPEAKER_01]: It's so good to be with you guys earlier than normal on a Wednesday.
- 0:40[SPEAKER_01]: Not going to be able to do the Larry Kruger collaboration this evening.
- 0:45[SPEAKER_01]: So, wanted to take the opportunity to get out of show and to get out another countdown video.
- 0:50[SPEAKER_01]: We've got number 53.
- 0:53[SPEAKER_01]: It's a 49 and our 2,026 49ers roster countdown series where we count down from 91 all the way to one.
- 0:59[SPEAKER_01]: Most important 49ers of the entire 2026 season and this is a fun episode because in the past,
- 1:08[SPEAKER_01]: When we would do, you know, the roster stops at 53, you go into camp with 90, 91 because the international pathway program.
- 1:18[SPEAKER_01]: Um, but then you cut down to 53.
- 1:20[SPEAKER_01]: So when we first started doing this countdown like six years ago, it would be, you know, 53 would be the long snapper 52 would be the partner 51 would be the fill goal kicker.
- 1:30[SPEAKER_01]: That was kind of standard and however we voted, we kind of manipulated that way.
- 1:34[SPEAKER_01]: Not that way anymore.
- 1:37[SPEAKER_01]: We, the 49ers have an active punter competition going on, which kind of pushed both of them down because, yeah, I think Balmista is going to win the job, but you will see what happens there.
- 1:51[SPEAKER_01]: And then Eddie Pedieral goes against one of the highest paid kickers in the NFL.
- 1:55[SPEAKER_01]: He definitely is more valuable than number 51.
- 1:58[SPEAKER_01]: So we don't get the punter and we don't get the fill goal kicker.
- 2:03[SPEAKER_01]: But we do get the long snapper.
- 2:04[SPEAKER_01]: Who comes in number 53 John Wees.
- 2:08[SPEAKER_01]: The oldest player on the four dears roster.
- 2:10[SPEAKER_01]: I think a lot of people don't realize that.
- 2:13[SPEAKER_01]: So we're going to start the conversation off with some long snapper.
- 2:16[SPEAKER_01]: Hey, long snappers matter too, baby.
- 2:19[SPEAKER_01]: They are there too.
- 2:20[SPEAKER_01]: And I know we're a little earlier than we usually are.
- 2:24[SPEAKER_01]: But I do want to say thank you for everybody showing up.
- 2:26[SPEAKER_01]: What's up, monkey boy.
- 2:30[SPEAKER_01]: uh... look at this case he first time catching live in three years of watching go forty nine is rush hey re appreciate however you enjoy forty nine is rush content a lot of people were larger on the audio only uh... which with the face like this i don't know how that's possible but
- 2:50[SPEAKER_01]: Spotify and Apple podcasts and I heart radio.
- 2:52[SPEAKER_01]: That's probably where we're largest, but Casey, I just want to say thank you.
- 2:56[SPEAKER_01]: Any support is appreciated.
- 2:57[SPEAKER_01]: However, you watch listen enjoy Even if you just follow us on social media, which we are very very thankful for but glad you are here today for the live show What's up big red we got Marie in the house.
- 3:08[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, yeah big red love me some long snappers my son is one
- 3:13[SPEAKER_01]: I feel like the majority of long snappers I've coached, coaches kids, like coaches get it.
- 3:20[SPEAKER_01]: You can long snap, you can make it onto a college team, be a part of it, eventually get a scholarship, like it is one of the easiest ways to be a part of the football world.
- 3:31[SPEAKER_01]: Man, yeah, I coached long snappers, my entire career, you know, I was a special team
- 3:42[SPEAKER_01]: It's a big deal.
- 3:43[SPEAKER_01]: It's a big deal.
- 3:43[SPEAKER_01]: What's up, Maria?
- 3:44[SPEAKER_01]: My favorite streams.
- 3:45[SPEAKER_01]: I love it.
- 3:45[SPEAKER_01]: Shannon in the house.
- 3:47[SPEAKER_01]: So John Weats.
- 3:49[SPEAKER_01]: Last year was 54 this year.
- 3:51[SPEAKER_01]: He's 53.
- 3:52[SPEAKER_01]: He wears Jersey number 46, 510, 242.
- 3:55[SPEAKER_01]: He's a bigger dude.
- 3:58[SPEAKER_01]: 40 years old.
- 3:59[SPEAKER_01]: He's the third oldest player in the NFL.
- 4:02[SPEAKER_01]: Only Joe Flacco and Aaron Rodgers are older active players.
- 4:07[SPEAKER_01]: Here's how old John Weas is.
- 4:09[SPEAKER_01]: How old is John Weas?
- 4:09[SPEAKER_01]: I feel like it's Joe.
- 4:10[SPEAKER_01]: Not really, Joe.
- 4:12[SPEAKER_01]: He went to college at Baylor back when people would stay at one college from 2004 to 2007, this dude played against.
- 4:21[SPEAKER_01]: Vince Young and the championship rosebowl Texas long horns.
- 4:25[SPEAKER_01]: Hookham, baby, I was at that rosebowl.
- 4:27[SPEAKER_01]: One of the greatest games.
- 4:27[SPEAKER_01]: The greatest game I've ever been a part of.
- 4:30[SPEAKER_01]: He played against those guys.
- 4:31[SPEAKER_01]: The Griffin Brothers, self-in-young.
- 4:33[SPEAKER_01]: You go on and on and on about that Texas roster.
- 4:37[SPEAKER_01]: But that's how long he played against them and college.
- 4:41[SPEAKER_01]: This dude has been around the block and then some.
- 4:45[SPEAKER_01]: And what's interesting, you know, he went to Baylor, Texas.
- 4:50[SPEAKER_01]: He's from Beth page New York, but was raised in Arizona went to Mountain Ridge High School Played Old Line T9.
- 4:56[SPEAKER_01]: He was a bigger dude.
- 4:58[SPEAKER_01]: One Arizona's two way MVP letter in football, weightlifting for four years.
- 5:03[SPEAKER_01]: He's a strong cat.
- 5:05[SPEAKER_01]: But had a really rough path to the NFL.
- 5:09[SPEAKER_01]: He was an untrapted free agent in 2008, but had to wait two years before he made it on a roster.
- 5:16[SPEAKER_01]: But once he did, hadn't looked back since.
- 5:18[SPEAKER_01]: He's made the Pro Bowl in 2050.
- 5:20[SPEAKER_01]: And he actually made the Pro Bowl last year, which is kind of strange.
- 5:23[SPEAKER_01]: But as somebody who breaks down every single snap, the 49ers have year and in year out, the upgrade from
- 5:32[SPEAKER_01]: where they were with Tabor Pepper to John Weeks is beyond significant.
- 5:38[SPEAKER_01]: Tabor probably covered punts better after the snap, but from a snapping standpoint, Snaps got significantly better.
- 5:46[SPEAKER_01]: Last year, going from Tabor Pepper to John Weeks.
- 5:49[SPEAKER_01]: I understand he's older, but
- 5:52[SPEAKER_01]: accuracy, quickness, timing, tempo, all those things matter.
- 5:56[SPEAKER_01]: He has him in space.
- 5:57[SPEAKER_01]: So John Wies is entering into his 17th season played in 261 games.
- 6:02[SPEAKER_01]: He's got 35 special teams tackles.
- 6:06[SPEAKER_01]: Older's player on the 49ers roster, even older than the Trent by three years.
- 6:10[SPEAKER_01]: And just reliable.
- 6:13[SPEAKER_01]: consistent.
- 6:14[SPEAKER_01]: Easy.
- 6:15[SPEAKER_01]: That's about it.
- 6:15[SPEAKER_01]: He's had no significant injuries in his career.
- 6:19[SPEAKER_01]: He's on a one year, $1.4 million deal, $1.2 million guaranteed, dudes making the roster.
- 6:26[SPEAKER_01]: Unless he gets injured.
- 6:27[SPEAKER_01]: That's the only way that that would kind of shake that up.
- 6:30[SPEAKER_01]: He's made over $12 million to this career.
- 6:31[SPEAKER_01]: Snap in the freaking ball!
- 6:34[SPEAKER_01]: This is just chill.
- 6:35[SPEAKER_01]: If there is no controversy here, there's no depth chart, there's no competition, teams don't usually carry too long snappers.
- 6:43[SPEAKER_01]: It's John Weats.
- 6:44[SPEAKER_01]: John Weats.
- 6:45[SPEAKER_01]: Number 53, write it down and pin, it ain't changing, it ain't changing.
- 6:51[SPEAKER_01]: Monkey, appreciate you, man.
- 6:52[SPEAKER_01]: If it all goes right, these discussions are the only time we'll ever hear their names.
- 6:56[SPEAKER_01]: If we hear their names during a game, usually not a good thing.
- 7:00[SPEAKER_01]: You know,
- 7:02[SPEAKER_01]: That very well said, and we have the time, what are we?
- 7:08[SPEAKER_01]: I think we're 80, no, sorry, I think we're 78 days as of, you know, Wednesday, the 24th of June.
- 7:17[SPEAKER_01]: But today's my son's birthday.
- 7:18[SPEAKER_01]: I'm super pumped about.
- 7:19[SPEAKER_01]: That's another reason why we had to do early show because I'm going to be chilling with the kid all day.
- 7:23[SPEAKER_01]: And so I want to get it.
- 7:25[SPEAKER_01]: He's still sleeping.
- 7:26[SPEAKER_01]: But like we have the time, which is awesome to spend time and to give these guys the respect and the dignity and then no variety that they deserve.
- 7:37[SPEAKER_01]: Congratulations, you made it on episode of the 49ers rush podcasts is what everybody dreams.
- 7:43[SPEAKER_01]: Be a facetious of course, but
- 7:46[SPEAKER_01]: it's pretty cool.
- 7:47[SPEAKER_01]: Like this dude has played the NFL for 17 years and it's a long snapper.
- 7:54[SPEAKER_01]: Make long snappers players matter.
- 7:56[SPEAKER_01]: You know what I mean?
- 7:56[SPEAKER_01]: Like they're freaking awesome.
- 7:57[SPEAKER_01]: They're freaking awesome.
- 8:00[SPEAKER_01]: What's up, Kim bro?
- 8:00[SPEAKER_01]: Appreciate you.
- 8:01[SPEAKER_01]: John Weeks is over 2,000 and 80 weeks old says big break.
- 8:06[SPEAKER_01]: I love that.
- 8:10[SPEAKER_01]: In matters and think about how much
- 8:14[SPEAKER_01]: everybody enjoyed Eddie Piniero last season, which I mean, good gosh.
- 8:20[SPEAKER_01]: That kicker, it will look into Eddie P. Way further down the road in this roster countdown.
- 8:26[SPEAKER_01]: You don't get the excitement in the consistency and the big moments of Eddie Piniero without the consistency of John Weas.
- 8:36[SPEAKER_01]: You just don't.
- 8:38[SPEAKER_01]: If Tabor Pepper was on the roster last year, Tabor's taking some shots here, but he's all right.
- 8:43[SPEAKER_01]: He could take him.
- 8:44[SPEAKER_01]: Not like we're choking him like Dibo or anything.
- 8:47[SPEAKER_01]: Any Pinearo is not going to have the season.
- 8:49[SPEAKER_01]: He had last year with Tabor Per.
- 8:50[SPEAKER_01]: I'm just going to be very honest.
- 8:51[SPEAKER_01]: I always thought it was very strange that Tabor Pepper kept getting brought back.
- 8:55[SPEAKER_01]: I never thought he was very good.
- 8:56[SPEAKER_01]: I never thought he was consistent.
- 8:58[SPEAKER_01]: High low, he was just not consistent at all.
- 9:04[SPEAKER_01]: John Weeks is the definition of that.
- 9:07[SPEAKER_01]: She added love that you're bringing the importance of the long snappers into the light.
- 9:10[SPEAKER_00]: Yes.
- 9:11[SPEAKER_00]: Yes.
- 9:12[SPEAKER_01]: Maria love highlighting these guys.
- 9:13[SPEAKER_01]: I'd love it, man.
- 9:14[SPEAKER_01]: You guys are the best.
- 9:15[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, look at that.
- 9:17[SPEAKER_01]: Matthew says happy birthday to Mike that's right.
- 9:19[SPEAKER_01]: Turns 18 today.
- 9:21[SPEAKER_01]: And what's even crazier than that, this dude is moving out on his own.
- 9:24[SPEAKER_01]: Two Texas.
- 9:27[SPEAKER_01]: Life comes that you're fast.
- 9:29[SPEAKER_01]: You don't stop and take a look around once in a while in a patchy vibe, man.
- 9:32[SPEAKER_01]: It goes quick and joy your time with your loved ones, uh, pepper to take in the streets.
- 9:38[SPEAKER_01]: What's up Dave?
- 9:38[SPEAKER_01]: We got bin in the house.
- 9:40[SPEAKER_01]: Shout out to bin, Josh and Zach, the executive producers of this entire series.
- 9:44[SPEAKER_01]: Uh, and then story is GAV, I feel like he can appreciate some long snap or takes.
- 9:48[SPEAKER_01]: I know he's a fullback slash kicker, punner guy, but
- 9:52[SPEAKER_01]: notorious are you also a long snapper official nodo as myself.
- 9:57[SPEAKER_01]: I feel like we're in this together.
- 9:59[SPEAKER_01]: I do now real quick.

- 11:32[SPEAKER_01]: Love it.
- 11:32[SPEAKER_01]: Love it.
- 11:34[SPEAKER_01]: Um, yeah, notorious to love me.
- 11:35[SPEAKER_01]: Some taper pepper.
- 11:36[SPEAKER_01]: He was a fan favorite.
- 11:37[SPEAKER_01]: John going deep with the fairs, but you look along.
- 11:40[SPEAKER_01]: Glad somebody got it.
- 11:42[SPEAKER_01]: Great show, great show, great show.
- 11:43[SPEAKER_01]: Kimbro, the Zoom hangouts are worth the membership alone.
- 11:46[SPEAKER_01]: That's what's up.
- 11:47[SPEAKER_01]: Thank you, Kimbro.
- 11:48[SPEAKER_01]: Appreciate you, appreciate you, appreciate you, appreciate you.
- 11:51[SPEAKER_01]: Number 52, let's just keep counting them down.
- 11:54[SPEAKER_01]: Derell, Luther Jr., better football player, Gamewise, then he is a practiceer, horrible practiceer, has a state healthy.
- 12:04[SPEAKER_01]: And then the 49ers go out and add a lot of corner back depth.
- 12:07[SPEAKER_01]: You spend a fourth round pick on Ephesians' price
- 12:10[SPEAKER_01]: had to rail looter juniors no longer the largest corner in the room.
- 12:14[SPEAKER_01]: And you bring in not one, but two vets and Nate Hobbs and Jack Jones to compete as well.
- 12:19[SPEAKER_01]: And I just returned every single corner last year.
- 12:21[SPEAKER_01]: Now, I have not a derail looter junior guy.
- 12:26[SPEAKER_01]: Never really have been, you know, whenever I go to the practice practices, training camps, all those things, I'm just like, dude, this guy's get toasted and picked on by 13 quarterbacks.
- 12:36[SPEAKER_01]: But whenever he shows up in game time, plays pretty damn good.
- 12:38[SPEAKER_01]: Very physical, big corner, six foot, one, 90, long arms.
- 12:43[SPEAKER_01]: You see him next to Diomendorlanor, Renardo, Green, Upton, Stout, you're just like, all right, this guy's built different.
- 12:53[SPEAKER_01]: The physicality comes across consistently.
- 12:56[SPEAKER_01]: He just has a state, healthy.
- 12:57[SPEAKER_01]: And he's going into his fourth year, and man, we can track his ranking,
- 13:03[SPEAKER_01]: on our countdowns, his rookie year was number 45 in 2023, sophomore year in 2024.
- 13:10[SPEAKER_01]: He was 30 hit on the countdown.
- 13:11[SPEAKER_01]: Really thought he was going to earn a starting role.
- 13:13[SPEAKER_01]: Never happened.
- 13:14[SPEAKER_01]: Last year dropped to 56 bumped up four spots.
- 13:17[SPEAKER_01]: Now he's 52.
- 13:20[SPEAKER_01]: He played well last year.
- 13:21[SPEAKER_01]: Where's Jersey number 28?
- 13:23[SPEAKER_01]: His tape was consistent.
- 13:25[SPEAKER_01]: It would great.
- 13:26[SPEAKER_01]: It was nothing like, oh, wow.
- 13:28[SPEAKER_01]: How do you give
- 13:31[SPEAKER_01]: But it wasn't worse than what Renardo Green did.
- 13:34[SPEAKER_01]: He didn't have the big, you know, guess it, you know, on all the double moves and being out of place like Renardo Green, but Renardo Green's a better corner.
- 13:43[SPEAKER_01]: He's second round pick.
- 13:45[SPEAKER_01]: You kind of look at, you know, Dorell Luder Jr was a fifth round pick from a small school.
- 13:50[SPEAKER_01]: A little bit different.
- 13:51[SPEAKER_01]: He's 26 years old, young.
- 13:53[SPEAKER_01]: He went to Pearl City Community College for two seasons.
- 13:56[SPEAKER_01]: Then transfer to South Alabama, state there,
- 14:00[SPEAKER_01]: went to Oak Grove High School Play 3 sports football basketball ran track was only a two-star recruit coming out.
- 14:06[SPEAKER_01]: He did the community college and transferred 49ers drafted him in the fifth round of the 2023 draft.
- 14:14[SPEAKER_01]: And probably what hurts the most is you look at the players that went after to railroad junior was on the board and it's just like out, obviously Puka Nukuah that's
- 14:28[SPEAKER_01]: That's huge.
- 14:30[SPEAKER_01]: Chase Brown, Don Tevi and Wix, Henry to the auto, I'm sure I didn't pronounce that one, right?
- 14:36[SPEAKER_01]: But like, man, you've got these kind of four stud starters that went after him.
- 14:42[SPEAKER_01]: That hurts.
- 14:43[SPEAKER_01]: That's not Dorel Luder Jr's fault.
- 14:45[SPEAKER_01]: But whenever you put in the context, it's like, man, could have.
- 14:49[SPEAKER_01]: What of should of that that game's dangerous, but it hurts now.
- 14:55[SPEAKER_01]: He was known as kind of old man because he had a kid whenever he was like 18 and just mature.
- 15:02[SPEAKER_01]: I remember in the rookie interviews just like dude this dude seems like he's like 35 years old.
- 15:10[SPEAKER_01]: Chill calm collected.
- 15:13[SPEAKER_01]: just mature.
- 15:14[SPEAKER_01]: You know, he's a dad from a young age and all those things that I think to that translates.
- 15:19[SPEAKER_01]: I like the maturity.
- 15:21[SPEAKER_01]: He just has a bit of the player.
- 15:22[SPEAKER_01]: The 49ers have hoped missed almost the entire first training camp, missed the entire second training camp, missed parts of the third training camp.
- 15:30[SPEAKER_01]: Now he's in his fourth training camp.
- 15:32[SPEAKER_01]: Can he stay healthy to where he's
- 15:37[SPEAKER_01]: polishing his game and proving his technique.
- 15:40[SPEAKER_01]: That's what he needs.
- 15:41[SPEAKER_01]: He needs reps because not getting a lot of playing time either.
- 15:46[SPEAKER_01]: The thing that you hold your hat on is he's so good in the run game.
- 15:50[SPEAKER_01]: big physical corner, long arms, not runs a four four like he checks a lot of the boxes.
- 15:57[SPEAKER_01]: He's played in 27 games for the 49ers and three seasons.
- 16:00[SPEAKER_01]: Only has three starts, 38 tackles, one tackle for lost, one force fumble, one pass break up, but he's just been injured, hamstring, pelvis injury,
- 16:12[SPEAKER_01]: got to stay healthy.
- 16:14[SPEAKER_01]: Now, have he said that last year to relative to your play in all 17 regular season games.
- 16:19[SPEAKER_01]: Hey, there's mostly on special teams.
- 16:20[SPEAKER_01]: He played 583 snaps last year, 308 were on special teams.
- 16:25[SPEAKER_01]: What a great special teamer.
- 16:27[SPEAKER_01]: But he was pretty damn good at kickoff coverage.
- 16:30[SPEAKER_01]: uh... thought he register positive game after game after game on kickoff coverage um... some dumb plays on punt which you go back to the super bowl one of the reasons why you lost super was cheese to relude junior not getting the hell away on a peter peter call uh... anyway that i wouldn't go to bring that up i deleted it from my notes so that i wouldn't bring it up so that i wouldn't get mad and here we are now up is to relude a junior
- 16:56[SPEAKER_01]: going to have to move you down the count down.
- 16:58[SPEAKER_01]: No, I'm just, I'm joking, I'm joking, but he's in the last year of his rookie deal.
- 17:02[SPEAKER_01]: He's made $2.8 million and you look at the depth chart.
- 17:07[SPEAKER_01]: This is the problem for it's a real literature.
- 17:09[SPEAKER_01]: You got Diomodoro Linore, usually only keep five corners, Ronaldo, Green, Upton, Stout, Ephesians, Price, socks, locks, that's four.
- 17:18[SPEAKER_01]: That means there's one spot left for Nate Hobbs Dreal Looter, Junior Jack Jones, Jacob Robinson, Eli Apple, Eli Apple, probably not in the competition, Jacob Robinson outside looking in.
- 17:29[SPEAKER_01]: So if you can only keep one of Nate Hobbs Dreal Looter Jack Jones, man, you're kind of behind everything because both Jack Jones and Nate Hobbs could play inside outside.
- 17:41[SPEAKER_01]: Looter cannot.
- 17:41[SPEAKER_01]: He's an outside corner only.
- 17:45[SPEAKER_01]: I don't know if he's going to make the roster.
- 17:48[SPEAKER_01]: But I do hold my hat on the fact that when Dorell, Jr. went in and played in season, had 200 snaps at the corner's back position, because they benched her in outer green, because he was just a goofball.
- 18:00[SPEAKER_01]: Played well.
- 18:01[SPEAKER_01]: Like, he's an NFL player.
- 18:04[SPEAKER_01]: Is he a starting level corner in the NFL?
- 18:06[SPEAKER_01]: He is not.
- 18:07[SPEAKER_01]: Is he a number four corner?
- 18:09[SPEAKER_01]: Sure.
- 18:09[SPEAKER_01]: Is he a number five corner?
- 18:11[SPEAKER_01]: Yes.
- 18:12[SPEAKER_01]: Can he be the number five corner for the 49ers?
- 18:16[SPEAKER_01]: That's kind of the question because it's just too deep.
- 18:21[SPEAKER_01]: It's such a deep spot.
- 18:22[SPEAKER_01]: So like, can he beat out Jack Jones, Jacob Robinson, Nate Hobbs, for that fifth corner spot.
- 18:28[SPEAKER_01]: Maybe the Niners keep six and only three safeties.
- 18:31[SPEAKER_01]: I doubt that, but it's possible.
- 18:33[SPEAKER_01]: Get a handshake agreement with Ash and Davis and say, hey, we're not gonna put you on our 53, but we signed you off the street.
- 18:39[SPEAKER_01]: We're gonna bring you back because he's invested vet, Niners do that all the time.
- 18:44[SPEAKER_01]: So you can finagle the numbers a little bit if you're like, man, I really don't want to lose all of these guys.
- 18:51[SPEAKER_01]: But even six is going to be rough for it's a real looter.
- 18:54[SPEAKER_01]: Can he beat out Jack Jones, Jacob Robinson.
- 18:57[SPEAKER_01]: Got to beat him both out.
- 18:59[SPEAKER_01]: Have to.
- 19:00[SPEAKER_01]: But played hard.
- 19:02[SPEAKER_01]: Look at the Kimbro.
- 19:03[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, looters show some heartlash here.
- 19:04[SPEAKER_01]: 100%.
- 19:06[SPEAKER_01]: Uh-huh, it's up rusty.
- 19:08[SPEAKER_01]: It says, join it late.
- 19:09[SPEAKER_01]: I was listed to yesterday's show.
- 19:12[SPEAKER_01]: Man, we're just we're giving you as much as we can.
- 19:14[SPEAKER_01]: Um, and again, I'm reminding everybody.
- 19:32[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, yeah, hopefully y'all forgive me notorious.
- 19:34[SPEAKER_01]: What's up, man?
- 19:35[SPEAKER_01]: His crew's still super eye on looter.
- 19:36[SPEAKER_01]: He is.
- 19:37[SPEAKER_01]: He is.
- 19:38[SPEAKER_01]: Um, yeah, I think looters going to be a career journeyman in the NFL.
- 19:43[SPEAKER_01]: If the Niners cut him, he will beat claims.
- 19:47[SPEAKER_01]: Like I said, he's he's an ideal five corner back, which almost every single team keeps five corners, but could be a four, he's a four, five or six corner outside corner only that limit to him, but can play on special teams don't seem to have any problems off the field, just injuries.
- 20:04[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, Louder Junior man.
- 20:06[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, it's, it's what it is.
- 20:08[SPEAKER_01]: What's up, NH9 or what's up, man?
- 20:10[SPEAKER_01]: Glad I caught you live.
- 20:11[SPEAKER_01]: Love the channel, you're the best.
- 20:12[SPEAKER_01]: I'm crazy for being okay with our corner and safety situation.
- 20:16[SPEAKER_01]: Not that I think they'll all be great.
- 20:17[SPEAKER_01]: It's just that, you know, this coaching staff, I think will help.
- 20:21[SPEAKER_01]: Corner rooms loaded.
- 20:22[SPEAKER_01]: Now, are there studs in the corner room?
- 20:25[SPEAKER_01]: I don't think so, but, man, you bring in a fourth round pick.
- 20:27[SPEAKER_01]: Ephesians, price sock.
- 20:29[SPEAKER_01]: He's now the biggest fastest corner you've got in the room.
- 20:32[SPEAKER_01]: You bring in experience and Nate Hobbs and Jack Jones.
- 20:35[SPEAKER_01]: Like the depth is there.
- 20:38[SPEAKER_01]: The quarterback coaching and defense of back coaching.
- 20:42[SPEAKER_01]: Jerry Gray, baby, I'm going back to my long horns.
- 20:45[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, how many long horn references can we get in this show?
- 20:48[SPEAKER_01]: Dude, it's called full of Hall of Fame, incredible NFL career.
- 20:52[SPEAKER_01]: One of the best DB coaches in, I mean, former, you know, defensive coordinator, dude's awesome at the college and NFL level, the experience that he brings.
- 21:04[SPEAKER_01]: We haven't had a DB coach like this and Steve Wilkes.
- 21:07[SPEAKER_01]: And I know a lot of people every time bring up Steve Wilkes get upset.
- 21:09[SPEAKER_01]: But damn, our safety's played great that year.
- 21:12[SPEAKER_01]: Can you get that elevated play from the safety room?
- 21:15[SPEAKER_01]: We'll see.
- 21:16[SPEAKER_01]: We'll see.
- 21:17[SPEAKER_01]: All good about Puka, 40 hours don't need any cannibals.
- 21:22[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, man, that's a comment right there.
- 21:24[SPEAKER_01]: Matthew, man, today is my grandmother's 94th birthday, too.
- 21:27[SPEAKER_01]: Headed to see her now in the lead, too.
- 21:29[SPEAKER_01]: What is up?
- 21:34[SPEAKER_01]: That is awesome.
- 21:35[SPEAKER_01]: That is where celebrating what an amazing beautiful human.
- 21:38[SPEAKER_01]: I'm sure she is and congrats to her and the family and the impact she has made.
- 21:42[SPEAKER_01]: Ah, man, that is cool.
- 21:44[SPEAKER_01]: Kimbro, I think Nate Hobbes makes it over Luder.
- 21:47[SPEAKER_01]: I do too.
- 21:48[SPEAKER_01]: I do I do as well.
- 21:50[SPEAKER_01]: I think Nate Hobbes plays over a price sock, but you keep fourth round picks.
- 21:53[SPEAKER_01]: You don't cut those.
- 21:56[SPEAKER_01]: So like, you know, my pecking order is demo or an article green up to install price sock, Hobbes, Looter, Jack Jones.
- 22:03[SPEAKER_01]: That's my current order.
- 22:05[SPEAKER_01]: Doesn't mean that's what it's got to stay.
- 22:06[SPEAKER_01]: Doesn't mean that's what the 49ers see it is.
- 22:09[SPEAKER_01]: Hobbes and Jones can both play corner and safety.
- 22:12[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 22:13[SPEAKER_01]: There's almost any corner that could play safety.
- 22:16[SPEAKER_01]: Unless you are just scared in the run game because you have to be that alley player could so consistently.
- 22:21[SPEAKER_01]: So like, Amber Thomas, a yellow wither spoon, those types of guys cannot play that position.
- 22:26[SPEAKER_01]: The guys that are just scared to hit, Luther could do that.
- 22:30[SPEAKER_01]: Now, it's changed directions, not great.
- 22:33[SPEAKER_01]: But,
- 22:34[SPEAKER_01]: Like you fell at corner, then you go to safety.
- 22:37[SPEAKER_01]: I would argue probably 92% of corners in the NFL can play safety as well.
- 22:43[SPEAKER_01]: Some obviously better than others, no doubt about it in Hobbs, and Jack Jones have much more of a safety build than to railroad or junior do, but six foot, one, 90 with long arms, that could play safety, 100%.
- 22:53[SPEAKER_01]: 100%.
- 22:56[SPEAKER_01]: Um, yeah, that's just the way it goes.
- 23:00[SPEAKER_01]: Maybe not this year, but something it's 40 hours should be, uh, you know, getting Ephesians price up, price up to become a free safety for us in the next few years.
- 23:08[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, again, you fell in that corner, much more valuable position, Niners.
- 23:12[SPEAKER_01]: Value the outside corner positions so much.
- 23:15[SPEAKER_01]: Do not value the safety position at all.
- 23:17[SPEAKER_01]: I would argue they care about the safety position dead last.
- 23:20[SPEAKER_01]: Safety is the least.
- 23:23[SPEAKER_01]: If you had Kyle Shanahan rank every single position, safety's dead last, not even close.
- 23:30[SPEAKER_01]: Safety is like, there's a chasm between safety and any other position for the 49ers.
- 23:37[SPEAKER_01]: It is just bottom of the barrel.
- 23:40[SPEAKER_01]: Which is crazy because John Lynch, your general manager is a Hall of Fame safety, and he got up there, pre-trapped is like, we see safety years, a premium position.
- 23:48[SPEAKER_01]: We're just not going to draft one, even though we're light at the position.
- 23:52[SPEAKER_01]: No, just pick somebody up off the scrap.
- 23:54[SPEAKER_01]: He, Ash and Davis, the chance he starts week one.
- 23:58[SPEAKER_01]: Leon, what's up?
- 23:59[SPEAKER_01]: Do you think Jacob Robinson has any chance to push for a spot?
- 24:02[SPEAKER_01]: Do they like Jacob Robinson?
- 24:04[SPEAKER_01]: They really, really like them.
- 24:07[SPEAKER_01]: They want him to prove he can play outside corner.
- 24:10[SPEAKER_01]: Whenever I go through Jacob Robinson's tape, it was like, dude, this guy's a nickel only.
- 24:16[SPEAKER_01]: He's so small, tackling the problem form.
- 24:19[SPEAKER_01]: Mentality's not.
- 24:20[SPEAKER_01]: He's just tiny, tiny arms, tiny hands, tiny body.
- 24:24[SPEAKER_01]: And so you're like, dude, this guy can't play on the outside.
- 24:26[SPEAKER_01]: He just can't do it.
- 24:28[SPEAKER_01]: Niner's played him exclusively at the outside and they're like, dude, you wanna make this rush, you gotta be able to play both.
- 24:32[SPEAKER_01]: So you gotta prove to us you play outside corner.
- 24:35[SPEAKER_01]: had some good moments in camp.
- 24:36[SPEAKER_01]: Like he is a practice or dude, he is feisty, gets in the games.
- 24:41[SPEAKER_01]: Man, I think he had four missed tackles and one actual tackle in the preseason games, broke his forearm, gave him another year.
- 24:47[SPEAKER_01]: I'm very high on Jacob Robinson as a cover corner, feisty, got to learn to tackle and hold your own out there.
- 24:55[SPEAKER_01]: Now full off season in the weight room.
- 24:57[SPEAKER_01]: I think that's huge, you know, a broken forearm and that happened in the preseason,
- 25:02[SPEAKER_01]: You're talking two months.
- 25:04[SPEAKER_01]: All right, he was probably weight room, eating weights, since October, November at the latest.
- 25:10[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, what's he going to come in?
- 25:12[SPEAKER_01]: Is he going to have some built-on size that will translate to helping them bring players down?
- 25:19[SPEAKER_01]: Why not?
- 25:20[SPEAKER_01]: Like, I'm telling you, ball skills, it'll lead, cover skills, elite Jacob Robinson.
- 25:27[SPEAKER_01]: got to prove you can hold it in the run game.
- 25:28[SPEAKER_01]: And if the 49ers move on from Jacob Robinson, there are teams that do not give a crap about support in the run game.
- 25:34[SPEAKER_01]: Niners, very important.
- 25:37[SPEAKER_01]: Other teams, some of them don't care.
- 25:39[SPEAKER_01]: Cowboys don't care.
- 25:40[SPEAKER_01]: Really don't care.
- 25:41[SPEAKER_01]: I can see I'm getting a spot with a team like that.
- 25:46[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, see what that is.
- 25:47[SPEAKER_01]: So, there we go, there we go.
- 25:50[SPEAKER_01]: So that's number 52, all right, now it's rookie time, baby.
- 25:57[SPEAKER_01]: We've got not one, not two, but three consecutive rookies on our countdown, because man,
- 26:05[SPEAKER_01]: you've got to get these guys above the 53 because they're making the roster fourth round picks make the roster fifth round picks make the roster it's just what it is now if you're going to any 49ers game this year you know who you got a party with four
- 26:20[SPEAKER_01]: 49ers rush road trip is going into its sixth year with over 40 events at road games.
- 26:26[SPEAKER_01]: If you are traveling to see the 49ers play this year, you got to come party with us.
- 26:31[SPEAKER_01]: And on top of that, we give games, trivia, giveaways, we partnered with tick pick this year.
- 26:38[SPEAKER_01]: All you have to do is search 49ers rush on any of the tick pick sights, apps, you name it and on top of all of that.
- 26:45[SPEAKER_01]: best dressed, giveaways, autographed jerseys, kids are always included and get in for free with a ticketed adult.
- 26:52[SPEAKER_01]: And a lot of times for select cities, we will have 49ers legends come out and you get to meet and greet them and get autographed.
- 26:59[SPEAKER_01]: Vorrow Bowman, Frank Gore, Patrick Willis, Fred Warner, are all players that we have worked with in the past and trust me.
- 27:05[SPEAKER_01]: If you want to build the 49ers community, you're traveling by yourself, we got you covered 49ers Rushroadtrip.com.
- 27:18[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, man, that comment is a chat is fire.
- 27:22[SPEAKER_01]: I read it though.
- 27:23[SPEAKER_01]: All right, here we go.
- 27:24[SPEAKER_01]: Number 51, and again, you have to remember.
- 27:30[SPEAKER_01]: This is the biggest impact to the 2026 season, okay?
- 27:34[SPEAKER_01]: And so the order of these rookies doesn't go in the order in which they were drafted, doesn't go in the order of which long-term impact.
- 27:42[SPEAKER_01]: This is this season only.
- 27:43[SPEAKER_01]: Number 51, Enrique Cruz, Jr., the first offensive tackle drafted by the $40, and not one, not two, not three, not four, but five consecutive NFL drafts.
- 27:56[SPEAKER_01]: Let's give a round of applause to the 49ers for finally drafting an offensive tackle.
- 28:01[SPEAKER_01]: I love it.
- 28:02[SPEAKER_01]: I love it.
- 28:03[SPEAKER_01]: I love it.
- 28:03[SPEAKER_01]: Now if I was going to project career long impact for the 49ers and Rik A crews would be much higher on this list than 51
- 28:14[SPEAKER_01]: The depth chart varies him to a developmental play only this year.
- 28:19[SPEAKER_01]: And even if there was an injury at the offensive tackle spot, I still don't think Enrique Cruz Jr. would play.
- 28:26[SPEAKER_01]: I think for Dary and Lowe's going to hold that spot.
- 28:29[SPEAKER_01]: Maybe what will see what happens.
- 28:30[SPEAKER_01]: Maybe he'll call to me, give it.
- 28:31[SPEAKER_01]: And they just practice Enrique, a right tackle.
- 28:34[SPEAKER_01]: Of course, we give it, it goes down.
- 28:36[SPEAKER_01]: God forbid, definitely do not want that.
- 28:41[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, that's kind of where that would be stupid Google sheets refreshing while I'm on it.
- 28:47[SPEAKER_01]: You gotta be kidding me.
- 28:48[SPEAKER_01]: How dare you?
- 28:49[SPEAKER_01]: How dare you?
- 28:49[SPEAKER_01]: The audacity.
- 28:51[SPEAKER_01]: Anyway, I love Enrique Cruz, elite frame, athleticism, run game highlights.
- 28:57[SPEAKER_01]: Oh.
- 28:58[SPEAKER_01]: You see it.
- 29:00[SPEAKER_01]: This is a big old dude, man.
- 29:01[SPEAKER_01]: Six, not, where's Jersey number 69?
- 29:04[SPEAKER_01]: 65, 313.
- 29:06[SPEAKER_01]: Listen to the athletic comps.
- 29:07[SPEAKER_01]: You look at his spider chart.
- 29:09[SPEAKER_01]: Geez, man.
- 29:10[SPEAKER_01]: Lower body athleticism and explosiveness off the charts.
- 29:14[SPEAKER_01]: Almost every single testable metric above 95%.
- 29:17[SPEAKER_01]: Trent Williams, 84% match.
- 29:20[SPEAKER_01]: Caleb Lomu, 82% Jamal Brown, 81.
- 29:21[SPEAKER_01]: Joe Thomas, 80.
- 29:29[SPEAKER_01]: tape doesn't match.
- 29:31[SPEAKER_01]: Now you are hoping that he could get to the point where the tape matches the traits.
- 29:39[SPEAKER_01]: That is the hope.
- 29:40[SPEAKER_01]: But you got to remember this is a fifth round pick.
- 29:45[SPEAKER_01]: Dane Brugler had him as a six round pick.
- 29:47[SPEAKER_01]: I did not grade him.
- 29:47[SPEAKER_01]: He was not one of my 200.
- 29:49[SPEAKER_01]: He went 177 overall.
- 29:52[SPEAKER_01]: This was the guy that lost his starting spot at Syracuse.
- 29:56[SPEAKER_01]: 18 months ago, like like I am very high on Enrique Cruz because you could see what it could become.
- 30:03[SPEAKER_01]: And that's what he is.
- 30:05[SPEAKER_01]: He's a high upside developmental play.
- 30:09[SPEAKER_01]: Do you got pinch of Syracuse, like like you see on it, like,
- 30:14[SPEAKER_01]: You have to put it into perspective.
- 30:15[SPEAKER_01]: You have to put it in the context.
- 30:17[SPEAKER_01]: It's very easy to sit here and say this is the trip Williams replacement and the 49ers are now locked up at tackle for the next decade and he It'll be you know Joe Staley trip Williams and Rika Cruz.
- 30:29[SPEAKER_01]: I'm not saying that's what's going to be could it be that?
- 30:31[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah Like we hood of that Not for a fifth round pick It's not but the athletic traits and the explosiveness say do it if this two gets coached up
- 30:43[SPEAKER_01]: You could have a player with some elite traits step into one of those positions.
- 30:48[SPEAKER_01]: Left tackle, right tackle.
- 30:49[SPEAKER_01]: Born in Chicago, and was that Syracuse got benched, transferred to Kansas, damn good year at Kansas, damn good year, best state by far.
- 30:59[SPEAKER_01]: He went to Willow, Brook, High School in Chicago, started playing football on fifth grade, had to move up to the eighth grade to play with them because he was so damn big.
- 31:08[SPEAKER_01]: Again, 65, 3, 13 and free athlete.
- 31:13[SPEAKER_01]: chose basketball was his main sport and then eventually later committed to football.
- 31:17[SPEAKER_01]: He also wrestled.
- 31:18[SPEAKER_01]: That is a huge positive positive positive state qualified for the state championship for shot and discist.
- 31:25[SPEAKER_01]: Dude's just athlete man.
- 31:27[SPEAKER_01]: Huge athlete.
- 31:28[SPEAKER_01]: It doesn't matter if it's basketball, wrestling, track football.
- 31:33[SPEAKER_01]: They don't make humans like in Rikai Cruz Jr.
- 31:35[SPEAKER_01]: They just don't.
- 31:37[SPEAKER_01]: He's played both right tackle and left tackle.
- 31:39[SPEAKER_01]: 16 starts at right tackle, 14 at left tackle.
- 31:43[SPEAKER_01]: Um, and, you know, you look at, we have breakdowns up on him at the four areas for us to comment on our patron.
- 31:50[SPEAKER_01]: If you want to go watch the coaches tape and I show you the footwork.
- 31:53[SPEAKER_01]: I show you the hands.
- 31:53[SPEAKER_01]: I show you the pauses, negatives.
- 31:55[SPEAKER_01]: Look, lead frame.
- 31:57[SPEAKER_01]: a lead athleticism, physical hands, his highlights in the run game, you see just like holy cow.
- 32:05[SPEAKER_01]: What?
- 32:05[SPEAKER_01]: Like if you just make highlights of Enrique cruise junior like to, this dude should have been the second round pick.
- 32:10[SPEAKER_01]: First round pick, he checks all the boxes, game tape, not so much.
- 32:15[SPEAKER_01]: And he doesn't play with great knee bent.
- 32:17[SPEAKER_01]: That's, you know, plays way too upright and he could get away with that at the college level.
- 32:24[SPEAKER_01]: You got to play a better knee bent.
- 32:25[SPEAKER_01]: You really got to play with the better anchor step, all those things.
- 32:28[SPEAKER_01]: It does a play confident either.
- 32:30[SPEAKER_01]: Like he's too rushed, tries to engage too early, gets his weight out over his skis, balance issues, like he needs seasoning.
- 32:41[SPEAKER_01]: Now the Kansas staff shout out to Dan Brugler and the athletic.
- 32:45[SPEAKER_01]: The Kansas staff said he showed up motivated, positive mindset, great person, great player.
- 32:50[SPEAKER_01]: You love that.
- 32:52[SPEAKER_01]: What's John Lynch and Kyle Shannon always say we want guys that love football and Ricky Cruz Jr. loves football period.
- 32:58[SPEAKER_01]: He just needs seasoning.
- 33:00[SPEAKER_01]: Now as excited as I am for the 49ers to draft in Ricky Cruz finally and offensive tackle.
- 33:08[SPEAKER_01]: If you were in Ricky Cruz's agent and you could say man, you go anywhere in the NFL, where would you like to go.
- 33:13[SPEAKER_01]: 49ers would be number one, two and three on that list because he gets to learn from freaking trip Williams.
- 33:20[SPEAKER_01]: And he gets to just step back and go through NFL 101 and learn.
- 33:25[SPEAKER_01]: You get Chris Forster, whose coach writes after greats after greats, like the amount of experience and just knowledge and know how that he gets to just sit back and say, look, you're red shirted here, bro, you're playing this year, even if Trent Williams gets injured.
- 33:45[SPEAKER_01]: But you're going to get all these practice reps because trip Williams doesn't practice on Wednesdays.
- 33:50[SPEAKER_01]: Sometimes it doesn't practice on Thursdays.
- 33:52[SPEAKER_01]: So you're going to get all these practice reps against Nick Bosa.
- 33:55[SPEAKER_01]: We kill Williams like non-stop.
- 33:57[SPEAKER_01]: Congratulations.
- 33:59[SPEAKER_01]: But then you get to watch in the game, you get to see it develop, you get to build a weight room, like I love this traffic.
- 34:06[SPEAKER_01]: And I value and Rikai cruise junior way more than I do, Carver Willis way more than I do at Fetian's price sock.
- 34:13[SPEAKER_01]: Now, again, wasn't one of my 200, but whenever you deep dive into it and you see like, good gosh, what is could be?
- 34:23[SPEAKER_01]: I love gambling.
- 34:24[SPEAKER_01]: You guys know how I gamble at bed all the time.
- 34:27[SPEAKER_01]: I love gambling on upside at the back end of drafts 2026 not a great draft class as a whole from an NFL standpoint, the talent standpoint that was out there, but to getting a fifth round tackle with these upside traits, just absolutely love it.
- 34:45[SPEAKER_01]: Now you look at his PFS scores in Rikai cruise junior 69.9 run blocking 67.3 pass
- 34:56[SPEAKER_01]: All right, whatever, he's making this roster.
- 34:59[SPEAKER_01]: He's making, you don't cut fifth round picks.
- 35:01[SPEAKER_01]: You really, really don't.
- 35:03[SPEAKER_01]: I am a huge, huge, and Rikai Cruz fan.
- 35:07[SPEAKER_01]: The fit, all of it, just like, oh, man.
- 35:12[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I love it.
- 35:14[SPEAKER_01]: I love it.
- 35:14[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, look at this big red.
- 35:16[SPEAKER_01]: Who's go to Dallas?
- 35:17[SPEAKER_01]: I have some couches of blow up mattresses.
- 35:19[SPEAKER_01]: My man Dude, I started my got my Dallas tickets.
- 35:22[SPEAKER_01]: I'm trying to plan like all right.
- 35:23[SPEAKER_01]: I'm gonna visit family I'm gonna do all that, but then do I stay in Dallas then go straight to Mexico the next week Do I go to Dallas fly back to the bay then fly to Mexico?
- 35:33[SPEAKER_01]: See I I still on I'm doing both those trips obviously But I'm like man.
- 35:37[SPEAKER_01]: I don't know how to do it now.
- 35:38[SPEAKER_01]: I haven't got my plane tickets yet, and that's problem cuz they're going up
- 35:42[SPEAKER_01]: Anyway, Logan looking at Enrique Cruz Junior's tape.
- 35:46[SPEAKER_01]: It looks promising.
- 35:49[SPEAKER_01]: Doesn't mean he's going to be a starter.
- 35:51[SPEAKER_01]: Really doesn't.
- 35:52[SPEAKER_01]: But man, it's easy to watch it and just be like, Oh, there it is.
- 35:57[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 35:57[SPEAKER_01]: Okay.
- 35:58[SPEAKER_01]: Just get consistent.
- 35:59[SPEAKER_01]: Get some better technique.
- 36:00[SPEAKER_01]: Learn.
- 36:02[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, man, bit crews athletically very similar to Trent Williams.
- 36:07[SPEAKER_01]: They look, they look similar, man, and trans probably the largest human I've ever seen in person stood next to and said, what's up at shook his head?
- 36:16[SPEAKER_01]: Like, yeah, the Trent block out the sun, man.
- 36:19[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, Rick, a crew student are not far off.
- 36:22[SPEAKER_01]: It really, really is.
- 36:24[SPEAKER_01]: Maria, yeah, yes, a raw ability to become an impact player.
- 36:26[SPEAKER_01]: It's there for sure.
- 36:27[SPEAKER_01]: And Chris Forester, we trust, I like that.
- 36:30[SPEAKER_01]: coaching really matters in Enrique's case.
- 36:33[SPEAKER_01]: Like coaching matters period, the developmental aspect is huge.
- 36:41[SPEAKER_01]: And if Chris Forster has done anything, it's take back in late round draft picks and make them capable in a fell players.
- 36:49[SPEAKER_01]: That is his specialty.
- 36:51[SPEAKER_01]: Does he take great players to make a better?
- 36:54[SPEAKER_01]: I don't know.
- 36:55[SPEAKER_01]: But Chris Forster, again, his
- 37:00[SPEAKER_01]: We can get above average play out of him and that's from Chris Forster's mouth himself.
- 37:06[SPEAKER_01]: And Ricky Cruz is the next special give up all Jake Predell.
- 37:08[SPEAKER_01]: Let's allow that one to run.
- 37:09[SPEAKER_01]: It's course this year.
- 37:11[SPEAKER_01]: Let's move on and let's focus on these next two rookies.
- 37:15[SPEAKER_01]: What's up, man?
- 37:16[SPEAKER_01]: Kimbro from the Mean Streets of Chicago.
- 37:18[SPEAKER_01]: I live there for a couple of months while in boot camp.
- 37:20[SPEAKER_01]: There we go.
- 37:23[SPEAKER_01]: But again, perspective.
- 37:25[SPEAKER_01]: Logan right here.
- 37:26[SPEAKER_01]: Now I'm going to log in.
- 37:30[SPEAKER_01]: Dude, yeah, you hear those stories.
- 37:32[SPEAKER_01]: What's up, Redgett?
- 37:33[SPEAKER_01]: So glad to see you.
- 37:36[SPEAKER_01]: Little salt and pepper on crews.
- 37:37[SPEAKER_01]: Watch them sprout.
- 37:38[SPEAKER_01]: There we go.
- 37:39[SPEAKER_01]: Just need some seasoning.
- 37:40[SPEAKER_01]: Just need some seasoning on there, man.
- 37:44[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, big red.
- 37:45[SPEAKER_01]: Only thing I don't like about tripworms is from long view.
- 37:48[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, gross, man.
- 37:50[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I do with that low bow.
- 37:52[SPEAKER_01]: No way, man.
- 37:53[SPEAKER_01]: No way.
- 37:54[SPEAKER_01]: No.
- 37:56[SPEAKER_01]: Not going to do it, can't do it, won't do it, can't do it, can't win with them.
- 38:02[SPEAKER_01]: Kim bro, McKibitz is a good example of average, but getting the most of everything.
- 38:07[SPEAKER_01]: They had to cut McKibitz.
- 38:09[SPEAKER_01]: McKinvits got cut.
- 38:11[SPEAKER_01]: Throw on the back on the practice squad.
- 38:13[SPEAKER_01]: Now he's a top 12 right tackle in the NFL.
- 38:17[SPEAKER_01]: I would argue probably top eight right tackle.
- 38:20[SPEAKER_01]: Like that's a fifth round pick.
- 38:23[SPEAKER_01]: That is a home run.
- 38:25[SPEAKER_01]: If you could outline Colton McKinvits career for Enrique Cruz Jr. Sign me up.
- 38:34[SPEAKER_01]: Sign me up now.
- 38:37[SPEAKER_01]: Are you kidding me?
- 38:38[SPEAKER_01]: Allow and regate crews a year to two years and step into one of the tackle spots what you're gonna come open because true man, like Trent Williams 37, called to be kids 32.
- 38:48[SPEAKER_01]: Like, they're long in the tooth.
- 38:51[SPEAKER_01]: You need somebody.
- 38:54[SPEAKER_01]: I would not be upset.
- 38:55[SPEAKER_01]: Man, if Enrique Cruz and I would not be excited, sorry, excited as a word, not the right word.
- 39:01[SPEAKER_01]: I wouldn't be surprised is the word I was looking for.
- 39:04[SPEAKER_01]: I was having a little moment there.
- 39:06[SPEAKER_01]: All right.
- 39:07[SPEAKER_01]: Now, speaking of Chris Forster specials, let's go to number 50.
- 39:13[SPEAKER_01]: Carver Willis drafted a full round, you know, fourth round 127 pick.
- 39:20[SPEAKER_01]: man, I just don't think.
- 39:23[SPEAKER_01]: I'm just going to be very honest here.
- 39:25[SPEAKER_01]: I am not the biggest Carver Willis fan.
- 39:29[SPEAKER_01]: I don't like his tape near as much as I like in Reggae Cruises.
- 39:33[SPEAKER_01]: Having said that, because Carver Willis lack of athleticism,
- 39:39[SPEAKER_01]: his futures probably going to be at the center position.
- 39:41[SPEAKER_01]: Now, he's ranked higher on this list because he has an outside shot to compete for that left guard spot.
- 39:49[SPEAKER_01]: So that's why he's ranked higher personally.
- 39:51[SPEAKER_01]: I don't even think that that's going to be an option.
- 39:55[SPEAKER_01]: Maybe I'm wrong there.
- 39:56[SPEAKER_01]: Maybe I'm wrong.
- 39:57[SPEAKER_01]: But Carver Willis.
- 39:59[SPEAKER_01]: fun player, future center, athleticism is not there, frames not there, but you watch him play in the run game and you're just like, that's a 49ers offensive lineman.
- 40:11[SPEAKER_01]: You see it.
- 40:11[SPEAKER_01]: Now he's only played tackle his entire career.
- 40:14[SPEAKER_01]: damn good at it, but his lack of frame, lack of athleticism, lack of bend, it just doesn't translate.
- 40:21[SPEAKER_01]: Like if you stood Carver Willis next to Enrique Cruz, you're like 100 out of 100 people are going to take Enrique Cruz, just based on the frame and the build and those types of things.
- 40:31[SPEAKER_01]: But you know, 65 302, nothing to scoff at, like size wise, just narrow shoulders, narrow hips,
- 40:43[SPEAKER_01]: But man, he blocks with a purpose, really, really does.
- 40:46[SPEAKER_01]: Went from Kansas State, then transferred to Washington and just played well, grew up in Durango, Colorado.
- 40:52[SPEAKER_01]: And this is a guy, it's funny, because, you know, Niners are big on personalities.
- 40:59[SPEAKER_01]: This dude's a personality.
- 41:01[SPEAKER_01]: He's not George Kittled, nobody's George Kittled, but he's George Kittled like this dude is
- 41:09[SPEAKER_01]: He's got something, whether that's a future podcast host or editor, like there's some of that in them.
- 41:16[SPEAKER_01]: And it makes sense.
- 41:16[SPEAKER_01]: You start, look at that.
- 41:17[SPEAKER_01]: He's dad's a pastor.
- 41:19[SPEAKER_01]: His mom's a special ed teacher.
- 41:21[SPEAKER_01]: So you talk about like people give it back and all that kind of stuff like it's in there and you see it grew up in Drango, Colorado, attended Drango High School.
- 41:32[SPEAKER_01]: He's a youngest
- 41:37[SPEAKER_01]: Here's what's crazy to me, as you start looking at like his two older sisters, Kenna and Caleb, and Willis credits his sister, Caleb, or introduced him to football.
- 41:47[SPEAKER_01]: She played left guard.
- 41:50[SPEAKER_01]: awesome, just awesome, and middle linebacker from fourth grade through a sophomore in high school.
- 41:55[SPEAKER_01]: She played high school football in Colorado.
- 41:58[SPEAKER_01]: Now after a playing days, she became the stadium announcer and announced the games that Will is played in.
- 42:03[SPEAKER_01]: That's just so cool.
- 42:06[SPEAKER_01]: So cool.
- 42:06[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I love that story.
- 42:08[SPEAKER_01]: And you know, you go back to Carver Willis.
- 42:10[SPEAKER_01]: He played quarterback in Little League, became a gauge just recently with Matti, who graduated from Kansas State.
- 42:17[SPEAKER_01]: That's where they met.
- 42:19[SPEAKER_01]: Carver Willis goes to Senior Bowl, plays really, really well.
- 42:22[SPEAKER_01]: They move home to center.
- 42:23[SPEAKER_01]: They move them to guard, 49ers there.
- 42:25[SPEAKER_01]: They love Senior Bowl players.
- 42:27[SPEAKER_01]: That's where you got on the Niners radar.
- 42:29[SPEAKER_01]: It's just a fun personality.
- 42:30[SPEAKER_01]: Now, film wise, it's positive negative.
- 42:35[SPEAKER_01]: run game, nothing but positives like you just see it gets movement in the run game consistently blocks with an attitude mean nasty like wants to finish players and let them know that they got dominated and then you watch past pro and it's just like what the hell is this?
- 42:53[SPEAKER_01]: This is just not it athleticism or lack thereof shows on Carver Willis's tape consistently and he's at tackle
- 43:02[SPEAKER_01]: It gets a job easy get the job done type of guy in past pro, but technique is horrible footwork is horrible, um, no bend at all.
- 43:11[SPEAKER_01]: Like in Rica Cruz needs to work on his bit.
- 43:14[SPEAKER_01]: Carver Willis dude.
- 43:16[SPEAKER_01]: I don't know when he bends his knees.
- 43:18[SPEAKER_01]: You don't see it.
- 43:19[SPEAKER_01]: It can't anchor.
- 43:20[SPEAKER_01]: Now you're going to move him to guarding go one on one with a defensive tackle three tech.
- 43:24[SPEAKER_01]: Absolutely not.
- 43:27[SPEAKER_01]: Center is the place for him to be.
- 43:30[SPEAKER_01]: but man, the run game, it's just, every single place, just like that meme of that girl, it's just like, well, actually, like, okay, now this is awful, okay, like, it's just this back-it-for-see-saw run game-pass game.
- 43:46[SPEAKER_01]: And so then I just like to, this guy fits our run game and what we want.
- 43:52[SPEAKER_01]: Hasbro not so much played 45 it's got 45 career starts love that.
- 43:57[SPEAKER_01]: I love case state linemen by the way Over 1800 career snaps he's got you know he's played ridiculous left guard left tackle right guard He's played everywhere Miss three games back in 2025 with the MCL all right But you look at his grades 79.9 overall great
- 44:17[SPEAKER_01]: 69.2 pass pro.
- 44:19[SPEAKER_01]: All right, 84.8 run blocking.
- 44:22[SPEAKER_01]: That is what it is.
- 44:24[SPEAKER_01]: That is what he brings.
- 44:27[SPEAKER_01]: I don't think he's going to be involved in it.
- 44:28[SPEAKER_01]: I think it'll be in the competition at left guard.
- 44:31[SPEAKER_01]: But I think it's going to be looked dude, you're not going to cut your fourth round pick.
- 44:35[SPEAKER_01]: Learn the left guard spot.
- 44:37[SPEAKER_01]: You're going to move to center next year.
- 44:39[SPEAKER_01]: That's just what it is.
- 44:40[SPEAKER_01]: Dominique Pune, Connor Colby, Brett Tauth, Robert Jones.
- 44:43[SPEAKER_01]: I have all ahead of him.
- 44:45[SPEAKER_01]: at the left guard spot, but he could surprise.
- 44:49[SPEAKER_01]: I would be shocked if he's, I would be shocked if he is even the backup left guard to be honest with you.
- 44:56[SPEAKER_01]: I think that they would move, talk over, they would move Robert Jones in, Connor Colby, whoever wins that, but like, I think he'd be third in line to play left guard.
- 45:07[SPEAKER_01]: This is another just developmental play.
- 45:11[SPEAKER_01]: just what it is.
- 45:12[SPEAKER_01]: Um, so anyway.
- 45:14[SPEAKER_01]: And, and yeah, Kimber, I'm with you.
- 45:15[SPEAKER_01]: I have Connor Colby went in the left card spot and lock in that down.
- 45:19[SPEAKER_01]: I really, really do.
- 45:20[SPEAKER_01]: I'm pulling for Colby two.
- 45:22[SPEAKER_01]: Um, would be cool to kiddles device, take better care of his body.
- 45:26[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 45:27[SPEAKER_01]: That's huge.
- 45:28[SPEAKER_01]: I'm trying to take that advice as well.
- 45:29[SPEAKER_01]: I'm sore as hell today.
- 45:30[SPEAKER_01]: Rough day.
- 45:31[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, rough day.
- 45:32[SPEAKER_01]: Body so slow.
- 45:35[SPEAKER_01]: Logan, ideally if Colby wins that spot, it's a win for the Niners knowing we made the right draft slash and two seventh round starter.
- 45:41[SPEAKER_01]: That's rare as hell.
- 45:42[SPEAKER_01]: I would love it.
- 45:43[SPEAKER_01]: I would love it.
- 45:44[SPEAKER_01]: I would love it.
- 45:45[SPEAKER_01]: Willis is the finisher.
- 45:46[SPEAKER_01]: Brindle's never been in the run game.
- 45:49[SPEAKER_01]: They are complete and tithuses of each other.
- 45:51[SPEAKER_01]: Brindle pass pro horrible in the run game.
- 45:55[SPEAKER_01]: And not horrible, brinnell gets to the points.
- 45:57[SPEAKER_01]: He just has no functional strength whatsoever and quits after a second and a half of every single play.
- 46:03[SPEAKER_01]: Turns around and watch his all-time watch or Jake Brindle.
- 46:06[SPEAKER_01]: Carver Willis wants to kill people.
- 46:08[SPEAKER_01]: Like the whistle is there for the defender's protection.
- 46:12[SPEAKER_01]: Terrible and past pro though.
- 46:14[SPEAKER_01]: So yeah, I think the four of ours is seeing like, man, why is our run game not work?
- 46:18[SPEAKER_01]: Well, our center's not doing anything.
- 46:20[SPEAKER_01]: So like he's not helping us.
- 46:22[SPEAKER_01]: He'll get to the linebacker
- 46:25[SPEAKER_01]: patty cake in the turn around and watch CMC get tackled shrugger shoulders won't help them up step over his dead body Let's go start the new huddle like Carver Will is saying never going to do that is career period period period period Kimberl pony did have knee bend last year because the entry and it affected his game Pony's play got better better better the further he got away from that entry It's just what it is all right here.
- 46:48[SPEAKER_01]: So it's my glitchy 2.0.
- 46:49[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, but from a center guard position
- 46:52[SPEAKER_01]: Um, and again, like I know we all have dunk on McGlanty.
- 46:56[SPEAKER_01]: I think he's like the third highest paid right tackle in the NFL still like.
- 47:02[SPEAKER_01]: I'm not a McGlanty guy.
- 47:03[SPEAKER_01]: I would prefer Colton McKinsey.
- 47:04[SPEAKER_01]: I think he's better, but uh.
- 47:08[SPEAKER_01]: I know people get bad, but like if you compare them, right tackles are not good in the NFL.
- 47:13[SPEAKER_01]: Ah, there we go, majority's for the record.
- 47:15[SPEAKER_01]: I love McClunchy.
- 47:16[SPEAKER_01]: It was cool to just get post-rise little too much, just a little too much.
- 47:22[SPEAKER_01]: That's what it is, but it happens sometimes.
- 47:24[SPEAKER_01]: Now, we got one more rookie to talk about excited about this one.
- 47:29[SPEAKER_01]: Longer wingspan than La Prawn Chains.
- 47:32[SPEAKER_01]: Next up.
- 47:36[SPEAKER_01]: You want to support local business.
- 47:37[SPEAKER_01]: You want to do what's right from the environment.
- 47:40[SPEAKER_01]: Go to the mattressguysco.com, locally owned business, diehardeninerfin that supports the show, supports the 49ers rush road trips.
- 47:48[SPEAKER_01]: He is a legend.
- 47:49[SPEAKER_01]: So if you have a mattress, you want to get rid of, you just go to the mattressguysco.com, set an appointment, they come pick it up, easy peasy.
- 47:57[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, it's just, it's a win-win-win.
- 47:59[SPEAKER_01]: Go to the mattressguysco.com,
- 48:04[SPEAKER_01]: and do what's right for the environment.
- 48:05[SPEAKER_01]: I love it.
- 48:06[SPEAKER_01]: It's a win.
- 48:11[SPEAKER_01]: All right.
- 48:12[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, here we go.
- 48:13[SPEAKER_01]: Look at this.
- 48:14[SPEAKER_01]: Big toe.
- 48:14[SPEAKER_01]: I appreciate you, man.
- 48:15[SPEAKER_01]: Thanks for the super chat.
- 48:16[SPEAKER_01]: Just saying Jake Prendos likes to watch.
- 48:21[SPEAKER_01]: Hello L.J.K.
- 48:22[SPEAKER_01]: Chick pretals awesome.
- 48:23[SPEAKER_01]: Such a cool dude, man.
- 48:25[SPEAKER_01]: Just quit quitting.
- 48:26[SPEAKER_01]: You know what I mean?
- 48:28[SPEAKER_01]: Just quit quitting.
- 48:29[SPEAKER_01]: I have a pride.
- 48:29[SPEAKER_01]: I have to pride out there.
- 48:31[SPEAKER_01]: Stop trying to elongate the career.
- 48:33[SPEAKER_01]: Go, freaking finish.
- 48:36[SPEAKER_01]: And again, this is a personal thing for me because as a coach, I can't handle quitters.
- 48:41[SPEAKER_01]: I can't handle guys that, it certainly doesn't have the same thing, but it's different.
- 48:46[SPEAKER_01]: Trent Williams is different.
- 48:48[SPEAKER_01]: Like you're not Trent and so anyway, why you'll make me talk about this, man.
- 48:54[SPEAKER_01]: It's what it is.
- 48:55[SPEAKER_01]: All right, never 49 or last one on the roster countdown for today.
- 48:58[SPEAKER_01]: Jayden Dugger.
- 49:00[SPEAKER_01]: Dude has at 84 and 3-8 swing span 3-8, 7-inch longer than LeBron James 6-4-2-40.
- 49:08[SPEAKER_01]: This dude frame upside tackling machine.
- 49:13[SPEAKER_01]: Tackling fuel.
- 49:14[SPEAKER_01]: Tackling fuel.
- 49:15[SPEAKER_01]: Fifth round pick, 154 overall.
- 49:18[SPEAKER_01]: And again, I have him higher than Carver Willis and Enrique Cruz because linebackers play special teams.
- 49:27[SPEAKER_01]: This guy, if you make the roster, which again, fifth round picks make the roster.
- 49:32[SPEAKER_01]: Six round picks, sometimes don't, seventh round picks, usually don't, fifth round picks make the roster.
- 49:38[SPEAKER_01]: I would probably say 99% of the time.
- 49:41[SPEAKER_01]: He is just in special teams is made up of tight ends and linebackers and safeties.
- 49:47[SPEAKER_01]: get through running backs in there too, but like you need guys like this to play special teams.
- 49:54[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, that's where it is.
- 49:55[SPEAKER_01]: Logan.
- 49:55[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, Dougher is a walking specimen.
- 49:59[SPEAKER_01]: 22 years old.
- 50:00[SPEAKER_01]: Now, the tape, this is a traits-only player.
- 50:04[SPEAKER_01]: Tape's bad, like bad lots of A's, like bad.
- 50:09[SPEAKER_01]: The tape is really bad.
- 50:12[SPEAKER_01]: Was that Georgetown as a safety?
- 50:15[SPEAKER_01]: then kind of translated to the nickel to the, you know, kind of will line back of them to Mike light back at the Louisiana Lafayette and then that Mike tape is about as bad as it can get.
- 50:24[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, I was going to be very honest, like I've breakdown up and I'm just like, oh, geez, feeder and quick sand.
- 50:30[SPEAKER_01]: You know, look like D winners out there, just eyes aren't matching the feet and all that stuff, but
- 50:36[SPEAKER_01]: Dude, it's never played the same position more than one year.
- 50:38[SPEAKER_01]: I saved you played a couple years, but like he's not going to be a safety.
- 50:41[SPEAKER_01]: You're going to be a Sam slash will for the 49ers and you're going to make life simple and read simple.
- 50:47[SPEAKER_01]: You're hoping the traits blossom into something, but for the first year, you just put them out there on special teams and just go like, dude, 64 240 with that arm length.
- 50:56[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, kick off coverage.
- 50:57[SPEAKER_01]: Kick off.
- 50:58[SPEAKER_01]: Punt, punt return.
- 51:00[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, fill gold block.
- 51:01[SPEAKER_01]: He's going to be on all of it.
- 51:03[SPEAKER_01]: Um, grew up in Pittsburgh with his parents, uh, Lance and Tunisia, shout out the Lance and Tunisia, uh, following in the footsteps of two older brothers, he played basketball football as a kid.
- 51:13[SPEAKER_01]: Sadly, his older brother to Juan died at the age of 24, just three years ago, which is just heartbreaking, um, so sorry for his family and the loss, but like that, you know, and we include that stuff because that affects who you are as a human, um, the tragedy that
- 51:33[SPEAKER_01]: it affects how you do daily life.
- 51:37[SPEAKER_01]: Jayden, you know, didn't really get a lot of offers.
- 51:40[SPEAKER_01]: Was an FCS guy goes to Georgetown after two years as a safety wanted to move up to the FBS.
- 51:47[SPEAKER_01]: So he transferred to Louisiana, the House that Elijah Mitchell built joking somewhat there.
- 51:54[SPEAKER_01]: Moved to dime line backer than Edge was kind of a Sam Jack type guy, very similar to how Reemors probably going to use them.
- 52:02[SPEAKER_01]: and then he moved to Mike for 2025, and that was just really not cool for him.
- 52:06[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, it was really, really bad, but...
- 52:09[SPEAKER_01]: You look at the elite wingspan and that shows on tape.
- 52:12[SPEAKER_01]: He is a great tackle.
- 52:13[SPEAKER_01]: He's a tackle machine.
- 52:15[SPEAKER_01]: He's late everywhere he goes, but he's a wrap up artist.
- 52:19[SPEAKER_01]: And because he played safety, he feels comfortable in space.
- 52:22[SPEAKER_01]: You see that in the coverage.
- 52:24[SPEAKER_01]: You see that, I mean, shoot, he had eight pass breakups, two interceptions in his career.
- 52:29[SPEAKER_01]: Like, he's got ball skills for a linebacker.
- 52:31[SPEAKER_01]: It's just where the hell do you put him?
- 52:33[SPEAKER_01]: When then I was first drafted my thought is going to be an edge now they're going to move back to line back or KJ right this is KJ right pick big KJ right fan And he's built just like KJ right, but he's got to be one of these versatile guys in that new Rahim Morris kind of you know five to whatever you want to call it so it's going to be fun to see, but this is a what he can be type of pick.
- 53:01[SPEAKER_01]: He's not even close to polished.
- 53:03[SPEAKER_01]: He's not even close to being a project.
- 53:06[SPEAKER_01]: He's stages before that.
- 53:08[SPEAKER_01]: This is, dude, you're a special team's only player that's got a shadow, Fred Warner, and Drake Greenlaw, and hopefully you learn some things.
- 53:18[SPEAKER_01]: Maybe he's a special team.
- 53:19[SPEAKER_01]: Maybe he's Luke Gifford.
- 53:20[SPEAKER_01]: Maybe that's his career where you're just a special teamer and maybe we just send you on one or two blitzes a game and put you on some gold line packages
- 53:31[SPEAKER_01]: Maybe that's what it is, but Jaden Tuggers going to play will be on the defensive side, not this year.
- 53:38[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, you look at the depth chart and linebacker, holy hell, we talked about cornerback depth and offensive tackle depth.
- 53:44[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, it's a lot.
- 53:45[SPEAKER_01]: Man, linebacker, Fred Warner, trade green law, Tate on Bethoon, Luke Gifford, Nick Martin, Jaden Tugger, Garrett Wallo, Jalen Graham, Larry Wirt Jr, and then up, like,
- 53:58[SPEAKER_01]: That's nine guys.
- 54:00[SPEAKER_01]: Sometimes you keep six just because the special teams usually keep five.
- 54:04[SPEAKER_01]: Sometimes you get four.
- 54:06[SPEAKER_01]: But with Luke Gifford being the all-probe probal special teamer, which we championed that one.
- 54:11[SPEAKER_01]: We started calling that one a week three.
- 54:15[SPEAKER_01]: And what to see, but like Garrett Wallow started a game in the playoffs in one against Philly, improved elite special teamer.
- 54:22[SPEAKER_01]: Can you provide
- 54:24[SPEAKER_01]: That's your better than Garrett Wallo.
- 54:26[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, you can't cut a fifth round pick.
- 54:28[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, you can.
- 54:30[SPEAKER_01]: Damn, that is horrible practice.
- 54:32[SPEAKER_01]: If you're cutting fifth round picks, like you got to see what they could do.
- 54:37[SPEAKER_01]: I don't know.
- 54:38[SPEAKER_01]: Somebody's gonna have to have some mysterious injuries.
- 54:41[SPEAKER_01]: And no doubt about that.
- 54:44[SPEAKER_01]: Man, I like Chaden Dugger.
- 54:46[SPEAKER_01]: I don't like his tape at all.
- 54:48[SPEAKER_01]: I don't like his tape at all.
- 54:49[SPEAKER_01]: But traits.
- 54:52[SPEAKER_01]: And that's the thing, you know, I talked with Larry about this before, like, back round, which the Niners didn't have six, sevens round picks.
- 54:58[SPEAKER_01]: You had fifth round picks.
- 54:59[SPEAKER_01]: So, like, background, you either take a chance on an all-out football guy with no traits, Carver Willis, or you take a guy on all-out traits and no football tape, Jayden Dugger.
- 55:11[SPEAKER_01]: They did both.
- 55:13[SPEAKER_01]: I love that.
- 55:15[SPEAKER_01]: You could throw a
- 55:20[SPEAKER_01]: They're a little bit more well-rounded prospects.
- 55:21[SPEAKER_01]: But Carver Willis and Chaden Dugger are opposite sides at the same coin, all out football guy with no traits Carver Willis and all out traits guy with no football tape, Chaden Dugger.
- 55:31[SPEAKER_01]: And I might be over-simplifying the narrative a little bit there.
- 55:36[SPEAKER_01]: But Chaden Dugger is a long way to go.
- 55:38[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, shit it, yes, I've excited about this guy.
- 55:41[SPEAKER_01]: Just temper expectations.
- 55:44[SPEAKER_01]: You just got to temper those because
- 55:48[SPEAKER_01]: I don't think we're going to see him out there a lot.
- 55:49[SPEAKER_01]: Now in the preseason we will and he's going to struggle.
- 55:51[SPEAKER_01]: Man, uh, Logan Dugger would barely need to jump to grab Inter said that he's huge.
- 55:57[SPEAKER_01]: Man, he's basketball player.
- 56:00[SPEAKER_01]: It's just there in H. Niners.
- 56:02[SPEAKER_01]: I'm excited about our young players from the last few drafts offense and defense to players, the like has still think Pierce on Green or better than people think along with Williams Collins and West.
- 56:12[SPEAKER_01]: People are upset.
- 56:16[SPEAKER_01]: All right, let me, I'm not going after anybody here.
- 56:21[SPEAKER_01]: You get a draft like 20, 20, three, the Brock Party year.
- 56:28[SPEAKER_01]: or 2022 2022 you get it you get a year like 2022 where you get have the best pick of probably the last 10 years in the NFL and Brock party.
- 56:36[SPEAKER_01]: But people are upset because all the other picks miss but you got a franchise quarterback with the last pick in the draft never been done before ever in the history of the NFL.
- 56:43[SPEAKER_01]: People are upset about that like well you had all these misses so yeah.
- 56:47[SPEAKER_01]: Then you look at the last two years drafts and the people are upset because men you got no home runs.
- 56:52[SPEAKER_01]: You got no misses either.
- 56:54[SPEAKER_01]: Every single one of those picks still in the NFL, still in the roster like that's rare enough itself.
- 57:00[SPEAKER_01]: So it's kind of hard.
- 57:03[SPEAKER_01]: Like every year isn't going to be 2019 where you get Bosa, Debo, Green Law, like that year was just uncanny, man.
- 57:16[SPEAKER_01]: Like you don't get three home runs in one year.
- 57:20[SPEAKER_01]: That's usually not the way that it goes.
- 57:24[SPEAKER_01]: But the 49ers fans want home runs.
- 57:28[SPEAKER_01]: Now, I'm a Tony Gwin guy.
- 57:29[SPEAKER_01]: like I love the aspect of I think depth matters a lot in the NFL and like if you tell me dude every single draft picks going to be a single with one or two doubles I'll take that every single damn year get contributors get contributors get contributors because eventually one of those guys that is a double will turn into something more.
- 57:48[SPEAKER_01]: That has been the way the 49ers have drafted the last couple of years, but up to stouts the only one that's like, oh, he's a double.
- 57:55[SPEAKER_01]: That guy could be the best nickel in the NFL.
- 57:57[SPEAKER_01]: It's hard to see that about anybody else.
- 58:00[SPEAKER_01]: But I am with you in age.
- 58:02[SPEAKER_01]: These last, and man, if this roster countdown doesn't do anything, you know, hard it was to rank these dudes and you see in the numbers next to them and you're like, damn.
- 58:15[SPEAKER_01]: 49 like really like for these types of guys like these are fourth and fifth round picks that we're putting in the 50s to last year you you go look at that and man we were throwing those fourth fifth round picks were up in the you know 40s and 30s.
- 58:32[SPEAKER_01]: This is a team roster and the result of quality drafting maybe not home run drafting.
- 58:39[SPEAKER_01]: There's some guys out there man.
- 58:43[SPEAKER_01]: There are some guys out there.
- 58:44[SPEAKER_01]: That's all I'm saying.
- 58:45[SPEAKER_01]: Logan.
- 58:45[SPEAKER_01]: I can see Dougher being sent on Blitz packages when he gets some tutelage under his belt for sure, man Yeah, Dougher gonna be like captain and say no shows no mercy.
- 58:54[SPEAKER_01]: There we go.
- 58:55[SPEAKER_00]: Yes.
- 58:56[SPEAKER_01]: Yes.
- 58:56[SPEAKER_01]: Yes
- 58:59[SPEAKER_01]: have dug her lineup when the offense is going to spike the ball and have them reach underneath the center track.
- 59:04[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, you do a little scoop between the sit centers legs, try to catch it.
- 59:09[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, it's so funny.
- 59:10[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I loved how Wallo played two, man.
- 59:12[SPEAKER_01]: Like, one does not simply defeat a Garrett Wallo.
- 59:18[SPEAKER_01]: Uh-huh.
- 59:19[SPEAKER_01]: Uh-huh.
- 59:19[SPEAKER_01]: Bad, most players need time to develop before you see what they're going to really be.
- 59:24[SPEAKER_01]: I agree with that too, and Jayden Douglas 22, most of this draft class 24, 25, 23.
- 59:31[SPEAKER_01]: Jayden Douglas, one of the young pubs out there, and yeah, you just get time, just get time.
- 59:37[SPEAKER_01]: Kimbro, we need home runs.
- 59:39[SPEAKER_01]: We are getting older.
- 59:41[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, oh, the very next comment we need base hits.
- 59:44[SPEAKER_00]: We need sliders but when the metaphor goes wrong.
- 59:49[SPEAKER_01]: Um, yeah, I love it.
- 59:52[SPEAKER_01]: I love it so thanks for the super chat my man.
- 59:55[SPEAKER_01]: You are awesome.
- 59:56[SPEAKER_01]: If you had to bet, would you think it's more likely a couple undrafted D linement earned a rotational spot before dugger or priceok are playing regularly?
- 1:00:09[SPEAKER_01]: Niners don't rotate linebackers at all, right?
- 1:00:13[SPEAKER_01]: So like they don't do that didn't even do that whenever Fred Warner was injured and, you know, like everybody was injured, last year, they still didn't rotate.
- 1:00:24[SPEAKER_01]: They stuck with what they had, whether that was Garrett Wallow or the Lance Kendricks or, you know,
- 1:00:30[SPEAKER_01]: whatever like they just don't rotate defensive tackle rotate 3D.
- 1:00:37[SPEAKER_01]: There's there's the starters There's the bravo there's the NASCAR and then there's one more rotation in there for like every fifth series, right?
- 1:00:47[SPEAKER_01]: So defensive tackle plate now the difference is
- 1:00:51[SPEAKER_01]: with the 53-man roster if you cut Jayden Dugger, who's a fifth round pick, likely to be claimed by somebody else.
- 1:00:57[SPEAKER_01]: If you cut James Thompson Jr., or Bryson Eason, the priority free agent, defensive tackles that you mentioned, every single team has already passed on them through seven rounds.
- 1:01:08[SPEAKER_01]: It's a lot easier to slide James Thompson Jr., or Bryson Eason
- 1:01:17[SPEAKER_01]: and they get them back on the practice squad, then it is somebody like a jade and dug her, because somebody could have a seventh round, great on jade and dug her and been like, man, we really wanted him.
- 1:01:26[SPEAKER_01]: We didn't get the chant.
- 1:01:27[SPEAKER_01]: We thought we were gonna get him in the seventh.
- 1:01:29[SPEAKER_01]: No team in the NFL has that opinion or feeling that like, man, we missed out on James Thompson Jr., we really wanted to get him in the seventh round, but he was taken before, because he was there.
- 1:01:39[SPEAKER_01]: So every single team passed on him.
- 1:01:42[SPEAKER_01]: This goes into the roster metrics or matrix
- 1:01:48[SPEAKER_01]: building that 53 men.
- 1:01:49[SPEAKER_01]: It's chess.
- 1:01:50[SPEAKER_01]: It's not checkers.
- 1:01:52[SPEAKER_01]: Who can we sneak through?
- 1:01:54[SPEAKER_01]: Who are we certain will be claimed?
- 1:01:59[SPEAKER_01]: Teams do not cut fifth round picks.
- 1:02:02[SPEAKER_01]: Like teams do not cut fifth round picks.
- 1:02:06[SPEAKER_01]: And even if they're injured, Niners do this all the time,
- 1:02:11[SPEAKER_01]: You control the rights because you put them on IR, they don't count on the 53.
- 1:02:14[SPEAKER_01]: They're contract tolls to the following season.
- 1:02:17[SPEAKER_01]: You still control them for four years.
- 1:02:18[SPEAKER_01]: That's why the four units have so many restricted free agents after the end of that year, three year, four deal.
- 1:02:24[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, you can look at Jordan Mason, Matt Breeda, called to be Kivots was one, to watch.
- 1:02:30[SPEAKER_01]: Jennings was one, it sees Alshair was one.
- 1:02:32[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, shoot.
- 1:02:33[SPEAKER_01]: You can go, man, you know, most like the Niners have done this throughout this regime.
- 1:02:38[SPEAKER_01]: nonstop.
- 1:02:40[SPEAKER_01]: How do we get this extra year?
- 1:02:41[SPEAKER_01]: How do we sneak this guy in?
- 1:02:44[SPEAKER_01]: So if I had to bet, I'm taking a defensive tackle, getting lineman, or even a defensive end, getting some work Mikhail Kamara over Jaden Dugger getting linebacker snaps.
- 1:02:54[SPEAKER_01]: And it's not close to me.
- 1:02:56[SPEAKER_01]: But I do see Jaden Dugger play in special teams really, really early.
- 1:03:02[SPEAKER_01]: Really early week one like you might jaded Doug were probably gonna be out there in the very first snap of the season and all Australia, which I'll be there.
- 1:03:08[SPEAKER_01]: Well, you guys be there I hope you're there.
- 1:03:12[SPEAKER_01]: I really really do But we'll see there Let's see here that's twice you mentioned wallo if you say it's name one more time that makes these making I freaking love Garrett wallo being there are just guys that you love
- 1:03:28[SPEAKER_01]: And again, we break down.
- 1:03:29[SPEAKER_01]: If you watch our breakdown tape with the 49ers, they brought Garrett Wall over in December.
- 1:03:34[SPEAKER_01]: And I watched it tape.
- 1:03:35[SPEAKER_01]: I'm like, who the hell is that?
- 1:03:37[SPEAKER_01]: I didn't know he was.
- 1:03:38[SPEAKER_01]: I didn't know his number is 49ers.
- 1:03:39[SPEAKER_01]: I was like, who is that?
- 1:03:41[SPEAKER_01]: So I'm revined in it.
- 1:03:42[SPEAKER_01]: And I was like, he's punching people on the face on special teams.
- 1:03:45[SPEAKER_01]: I'm like, yes, like, yeah, I like a bangree baby.
- 1:03:50[SPEAKER_01]: I love Garrett Wallow.
- 1:03:51[SPEAKER_01]: Like,
- 1:03:52[SPEAKER_01]: I love him.
- 1:03:53[SPEAKER_01]: He's the NFL edition of Rudy if there ever was one.
- 1:03:57[SPEAKER_01]: Shane, what's up, brother?
- 1:03:58[SPEAKER_01]: Fifth rounders really get cut.
- 1:03:59[SPEAKER_01]: They just don't.
- 1:04:00[SPEAKER_01]: They just do not.
- 1:04:02[SPEAKER_01]: They just don't.
- 1:04:04[SPEAKER_01]: RTP just might be down under.
- 1:04:06[SPEAKER_01]: There we go.
- 1:04:08[SPEAKER_01]: Hello late today, but what the hell is up with Nick Martin another third round ghost?
- 1:04:13[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, that concussion was scary.
- 1:04:15[SPEAKER_01]: And even like the injury,
- 1:04:18[SPEAKER_01]: Runs full speed, you see him get whacked in the side of the head, you see him get dizzy, goes back out there, plays the next play, doesn't look right, and you don't see him for the rest of the season.
- 1:04:29[SPEAKER_01]: Now people forget, Nick Martin earned the starting job.
- 1:04:34[SPEAKER_01]: He was the starting number three linebacker that week, finally climbed.
- 1:04:39[SPEAKER_01]: got a concussion on kickoff or kickoff or I think it was kickoff return.
- 1:04:42[SPEAKER_01]: I don't remember which one was, but he finally found his role as a starter got one snap and like had a concussion.
- 1:04:50[SPEAKER_01]: They took him out and he was done.
- 1:04:53[SPEAKER_01]: Don't write off Nick Martin.
- 1:04:54[SPEAKER_01]: Now Nick Martin is not a Raheem Morris guy.
- 1:04:57[SPEAKER_01]: Nick Martin is a KJ.
- 1:05:00[SPEAKER_01]: KJ right guy.
- 1:05:01[SPEAKER_01]: He was here whenever, but that was a Robert solid guy.
- 1:05:06[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I
- 1:05:08[SPEAKER_01]: I don't want to write off Nick Martin.
- 1:05:10[SPEAKER_01]: It was so cool having him on the show and you know talking to him and It seems to me to be up to the right stuff, but this dude hasn't played meaning for football in two consecutive seasons now Don't want to give up on him But yeah, right here Logan Nick Martin better show us something training camp.
- 1:05:30[SPEAKER_01]: I like that
- 1:05:31[SPEAKER_01]: I like that line back a room again.
- 1:05:34[SPEAKER_01]: The depth, Fred Warner Greenlaw, Petton, Luke Gifford, Nick Martin, Jayden Tucker, Garrett Wallow, Jalen Graham, Larry with the third.
- 1:05:41[SPEAKER_01]: And don't sleep on Larry with the third.
- 1:05:43[SPEAKER_01]: Don't do it.
- 1:05:44[SPEAKER_01]: I don't think he's going to make the roster.
- 1:05:46[SPEAKER_01]: But...
- 1:05:47[SPEAKER_01]: had to replace them for them now.
- 1:05:48[SPEAKER_01]: He could play some ball.
- 1:05:49[SPEAKER_01]: Guys, this is a bit fun.
- 1:05:51[SPEAKER_01]: You guys are incredible.
- 1:05:52[SPEAKER_01]: Thank you for spending some time with me early in the morning.
- 1:05:55[SPEAKER_01]: I hope the rest of your day is incredible.
- 1:05:57[SPEAKER_01]: You all deserve to have great days.
- 1:05:58[SPEAKER_01]: And I just want to say thank you for spending some time with me.
- 1:06:01[SPEAKER_01]: Thank you.
- 1:06:01[SPEAKER_01]: And until next time, as always, stay strong, faithful.
