- 0:00The connection between autism and OCD and do they differ?
- 0:03Let's talk about it right now. Let's jump in guys.
- 0:05Welcome back to the ASP world. My name is Dan and I have autism
- 0:07and ADHD and actually in fact, have OCD too.

- 0:21full potential and goals in life and be the people they want to
- 0:24be. Don't just exist.

- 0:43Facebook, TikTok, Instagram, Twitter, threads, everything you
- 0:46can think of guys. I want to talk about autism and
- 0:48OCD. Now this is something that has
- 0:49been on my mind for a while. I suffer from OCD and I suffer
- 0:53from many mental health issues, but I also have autism and ADHD.
- 0:57Now there are two types of kind of like an OCD within autism.
- 1:01OK, you can have OCD as a separate diagnosis and you can
- 1:04have autism which comes with more of a a compulsion to do
- 1:07stuff. Now I want to talk about these
- 1:10two separately, but first I just want to do a small disclaimer.
- 1:13OCD can be very damaging to someone's mental health.
- 1:15I mean, for me it, it was very, some of the darker sense of my
- 1:18life is because of OCD and it really does spiral and becomes
- 1:22the thing that grows on you and I don't like it.
- 1:24And so if you're having issues, OCD therapy is really, really
- 1:27good for it. And if you want to use a therapy
- 1:29that's easy and helpful to use, I use Better Help on my iPhone,
- 1:33which is basically just an app that you download.
- 1:35The link is down below in the description of this video,
- 1:37Better Help. And they can talk to you on your
- 1:39phone via text or video or voice and they hook you up within 24
- 1:43to 48 hours with a therapist and you can pay through the app.
- 1:45It's amazing. It's absolutely amazing.
- 1:46So definitely check it out. If you're struggling with mental
- 1:48health, OCD is on its own something that is happening
- 1:52because you're compulsed to do it, like you have a negative
- 1:55impact if you don't do it. So say say The thing is you have
- 1:58to turn all the lights off in the house 2 times like on and
- 2:02off 2 times before you leave the house.
- 2:03That is an OCD compulsion and the reason for doing that you do
- 2:06not enjoy doing those things. You feel like you have to do
- 2:09those things otherwise something terrible will happen to you or
- 2:12your life or somebody in your life.
- 2:13That's OCD in in general, but OCD within an autism spectrum
- 2:17disorder where they have a compulsion to do stuff where
- 2:19they like do the same thing over and over again, like turning the
- 2:22lights on and off. They will actually have pleasure
- 2:24from doing those things because it's a routine.
- 2:26They like to follow through with the routines.
- 2:27And I did a video all about routines and why routines are
- 2:29important. Now, when you're following a
- 2:31routine because you find comfort from it, that's OCD for an
- 2:34autism, which is just more of a compulsion to do those things
- 2:37because you enjoy it. Whereas if you were doing
- 2:39something that you didn't enjoy, but you had to do it, that's
- 2:42true OCD. Now, a lot of people think OCD
- 2:44is just like cleaning, you know, terribly cleaning and being,
- 2:46being a germaphobe, which sometimes it can be, but it's
- 2:49also more than that. It's a, it's a, it's a routine.
- 2:52It's a repetitive action that you have to take every single
- 2:54day. You have to always do these
- 2:56things in order to actually achieve some or some sort of
- 3:00kind of stability in life so that nothing dangerous happens
- 3:02to anybody. And that's what that's what's
- 3:03going on in your mind. That's what's going on in your
- 3:05life all the time. Now there is a connection
- 3:06between those two and because autism comes with mental health
- 3:09issues and OCD sometimes and a lot of time is Co occurring or
- 3:13coexisting and Co diagnosed with autism.
- 3:15Now if you have anything to add, pop in the comment down below or
- 3:18read every single one and I'll see you guys in the next video.
- 3:20Peace.
