- 0:40You know, I hear it, Tanya.
- 0:41I hear that sultry baritone.
- 0:43What is that sound?
- 0:44We haven't heard it in a while.
- 0:46Welcome to drive thru episode number 41!
- 0:50This is our monthly recap where we put together a menu of automotive,
- 0:54motorsport, and random car adjacent news.
- 0:57Now let's pull up to window number one for some automotive news.
- 1:00We are back!
- 1:01We are coming out of the winter freeze.
- 1:03This is pretty awesome, and I don't think that's true that we're coming
- 1:09out of a winter freeze when it's like 17 degrees out the last few days.
- 1:13I'm down here in the tropics of Richmond where it's 37.
- 1:16What a heat wave!
- 1:18I know, I was out in shorts and a Hawaiian shirt and I was living the life today.
- 1:23Is that the new dad look?
- 1:24Is that how it works after you have the second kid?
- 1:26You get the flip flops and the Hawaiian shirt?
- 1:28Don't forget the socks, socks and sandals, socks and slides, socks and slides.
- 1:32Shout out to Doug Turner.
- 1:34No, no.
- 1:35You got to have the toe thong with your sock.
- 1:37Yeah, it's the Elmo slide.
- 1:38That's what, that's what we're doing up in this piece.
- 1:40The Elmo slide.
- 1:42All right.
- 1:43Let's go.
- 1:44But before we dig in to the showcase, I have breaking news.
- 1:47I received an email from Tesla.
- 1:51They, uh, hacked your account and have all your personal info.
- 1:54They would like you to reset your password.
- 1:56Yes.
- 1:56There was a security breach.
- 1:57And then, no, I'm kidding.
- 1:58Your limited edition foundation series.
- 2:00Cybertruck is ready to order.
- 2:02Did you say limited edition?
- 2:04Limited edition foundation series.
- 2:07Cybertruck is ready to order because I got in with my deposit on day one So i'm
- 2:13one of like the first couple hundred as an early reservation holder You have been
- 2:17invited to order your foundation series cybertruck with early access Two delivery.
- 2:23I'm guessing that means 2027 maybe.
- 2:26I don't know.
- 2:27It says further on that they're delivering trucks in California and Texas and
- 2:30they're delivering as early as 2024.
- 2:32I don't know.
- 2:32Warm climates.
- 2:33Okay.
- 2:34Yeah.
- 2:34Well, we'll get into that.
- 2:35We'll get into that.
- 2:37So yeah, I need to call Tesla and get my a hundred dollars back.
- 2:41That's what's going to happen with that.
- 2:42So let's dive into the showcase.
- 2:44If you haven't been able to tell, we are talking about all things, Cybertruck.
- 2:49That's right.
- 2:49I am so glad you're back.
- 2:50This is going to be a hell of a winter recap.
- 2:53Obviously.
- 2:53Congratulations are in order.
- 2:54You had your second son, you know, that's an awesome big event in your
- 2:58life, but maybe not as big as getting the opportunity to pick up this Cybertruck.
- 3:03Yes, yes, yes.
- 3:04So to quote Steven Izzy from our Everything I Learned From Movies episodes,
- 3:07What have we learned over the winter about the Cybertruck now that people
- 3:11are taking delivery of these things?
- 3:13We've learned that they're available, but they're not available.
- 3:17Tesla really doesn't want to sell any because they're trying to offer
- 3:20you money to buy another Tesla.
- 3:22So you don't sit around waiting for a cyber truck that may or may not exist.
- 3:26All the ones that are out there running or doing funky things like crashing
- 3:30and you know, weird things like that.
- 3:31All good things.
- 3:32Let's start with this.
- 3:33You've got that email.
- 3:34Does it give you any details?
- 3:36Are you able to go in and maybe spec it out and figure out
- 3:39how much it's going to cost?
- 3:40Because I've heard some rumors.
- 3:42About what maybe the real price is for these Cybertrucks.
- 3:47So this one's going to be expensive.
- 3:49Your Cybertruck will be fully optioned and will include limited edition laser
- 3:55etched badging, premium accessories, charging equipment with PowerShare
- 4:00home backup hardware, all terrain tires, full self driving capability.
- 4:05Wait, all terrain tires?
- 4:07All terrains.
- 4:08She got hung up on all terrain tires?
- 4:10Wait, what do we mean?
- 4:11The tires that can't get up a hill in the woods?
- 4:14Or when there's, like, snow?
- 4:15V1s.
- 4:16I don't know which all terrain tires they are offering, but they're
- 4:19probably not Duratrax, which means they're probably not very good.
- 4:22Don't ruin it for everybody.
- 4:24But here's the part I thought Tanya would've honed in on.
- 4:26Full.
- 4:27Self.
- 4:28Driving.
- 4:29Capability that's what I thought too.
- 4:30She got hung up on these all terrain tires.
- 4:33I wasn't listening full self driving capability That will need to be
- 4:37recalled before I even take delivery.
- 4:39Yeah, because that's false advertising So maybe I should take
- 4:42this email and just sue tesla.
- 4:44Well, the lawsuit's not over yet.
- 4:45That's why that's why they can still use it I guess but still no
- 4:49talk about what it costs though Well, I can continue to my account.
- 4:53I haven't logged into this in like three years four years Maybe
- 4:56five when was it first announced?
- 4:58With that steampunk kind of like cyberpunk wasn't it in the year before
- 5:04Cove in the year 2000 and the time before yeah, it was like in the before times.
- 5:10Yeah, it was like in the November BC before Cove it Yeah before Cove it.
- 5:14I Was working at that terrible mortgage company a while ago then yeah 2019.
- 5:21Oh man.
- 5:22Wow, so it's been Jeez, five years since you put this deposit.
- 5:25And the one thing that makes your particular deposit special is
- 5:28you actually went full in on the tri motor version of this thing.
- 5:32So it is like the upper echelon of Cybertrucks if it ever comes to fruition.
- 5:36That's why it's the top of the line limited edition.
- 5:39Some are limited to somebody limited to my imagination.
- 5:43What I've read is.
- 5:45They had all these bargain basement prices.
- 5:47Oh, you can get a cyber truck.
- 5:48It's going to be the cheapest truck in town.
- 5:50Blah, blah, blah.
- 5:5150, 000, 60, 000, 30, 000.
- 5:53You know, all these numbers that you never ensure.
- 5:55It's sort of like Christmas time where they double the
- 5:58price and then put it on sale.
- 5:5950 percent off one of those kinds of deals.
- 6:01But I'm reading over a hundred grand for these things.
- 6:05So the all wheel drive foundation series tri motor.
- 6:10Fully loaded 99, 990 before taxes.
- 6:16Yeah.
- 6:16Well, they lost the tax credit, didn't they?
- 6:18So you can't get that.
- 6:19You can get the cyber beast.
- 6:21I can upgrade if I wanted to, to the cyber beast.
- 6:26For 119, 990 stop playing games.
- 6:30Tesla 100, 000 dropping that 10 off does not make it any better.
- 6:35I apparently had very lofty goals for my income.
- 6:38When I put the order on this truck, I will tell you what, but let's
- 6:42put that in perspective though.
- 6:43We already know that pickup trucks are expensive to begin with,
- 6:47but how much truck real truck.
- 6:51Can you buy for a hundred grand these days?
- 6:53I mean, you can get a fully optioned out diesel 3, 500
- 6:58dually or something like that.
- 6:59F two 50 King ranch or something like that.
- 7:01Talk about a beast.
- 7:03That's a real beast, right?
- 7:04Compared to this thing.
- 7:06And we'll get into more of these specifics of what's working and what's not with the
- 7:09cyber truck here is we've learned through the winter months and doing this research.
- 7:13I'm not even done.
- 7:14So yeah, a hundred thousand or 120, 000.
- 7:17But then, but wait, there's more call Now.
- 7:20You can add the range extender for $16,000, so it's 116,000 or $136,000
- 7:30for any of the trim motor versions.
- 7:33Uh, what percentage APR these days?
- 7:35Car loans are for excellent credits and like the five to 7
- 7:39percent range, something like that.
- 7:41And it only goes up from there.
- 7:42Still a lot.
- 7:43Well, you financed it for 30 years, like a mortgage.
- 7:46I mean, when you're talking six figure cars, because remember Tesla not only
- 7:49does their own insurance, but I think they do their own financing too.
- 7:53So, okay.
- 7:53Yeah.
- 7:53The interest rate would be 6.
- 7:5659%.
- 7:56You can do up to 84 months.
- 7:58With a 4, 500 down payment, your monthly payment for seven years on a truck that
- 8:04probably won't last two years is 1, 500.
- 8:08Well, they also do some other financing.
- 8:10Do you guys remember the Tesla Roadster and the thousand people that put money
- 8:14down on that thing like 10 years ago?
- 8:16If you do the math on that, it's like a cool quarter million dollars they got.
- 8:20Tax free.
- 8:21What kind of scheme is it?
- 8:23Like, does it have a name where you get people to put deposits down and
- 8:27you get a million people to put a hundred dollars down and then you
- 8:31use that money to finance yourself and don't give them anything?
- 8:35I believe that's called a sweepstakes.
- 8:37Isn't that what it's called?
- 8:38So this is the Tesla Roadster sweepstake and Cybertruck semi truck.
- 8:43Program.
- 8:43Great.
- 8:43If you order now, we'll throw in a windshield wiper blade.
- 8:47Does it have windshield wipers?
- 8:49Yeah.
- 8:49It's got that one.
- 8:50It's got that one giant windshield wiper.
- 8:52Large one.
- 8:52So we've confirmed that it has side mirrors.
- 8:54Now it doesn't have lasers or sharks with lasers.
- 8:57It kind of looks like a shark toy with lasers on it in a way.
- 9:01We'll talk about the aesthetics here as we go.
- 9:03We already know about the less than 10 microns of panel gap and all that stuff.
- 9:07We've reviewed that in the past.
- 9:08Better than Legos.
- 9:09You know what I'm not seeing?
- 9:11I'm not seeing how to get my 100 back.
- 9:13That's what I'm not seeing.
- 9:14Where's the link for that?
- 9:15You told the Ethos, the great wide interwebs, you would give
- 9:19away your Cybertruck allotment for a bucket of chicken.
- 9:22Has anybody taken you up on this yet?
- 9:24I mean, come on, man.
- 9:25No, I've been waiting for Mark Hewitt to give me a call, and
- 9:27he just has not reached out.
- 9:29So I don't know what's going on with that.
- 9:30Because he's trying to figure out how to buy Dogecoin, because
- 9:34even that doesn't exist anymore.
- 9:36Is your donation to the Tesla Corporation, is that tax
- 9:39deductible on your yearly taxes?
- 9:42It's supposed to be fully refundable.
- 9:44Yeah, yeah.
- 9:44I, I filed it.
- 9:45I got the tax write off for that back in 2019.
- 9:49This says all prices are shown without incentives or estimated
- 9:53seven year gas savings of 8, 400.
- 9:56Wait, you're only going to save for seven years?
- 9:59And then the gas car, because it says a cyber truck is 900 estimated
- 10:05electricity per year versus a gasoline cars, 2, 100 estimated gas costs at
- 10:1113, 000 miles, three 30 a gallon.
- 10:13Okay.
- 10:13Okay.
- 10:14Let's stop.
- 10:15Hold on.
- 10:16Yeah.
- 10:16All that's great.
- 10:17That's well and good, but imagine this you fit in a GR Corolla, right?
- 10:21I do not have any answer for that.
- 10:23They're going to compare it against an F 150 triple duty quad cab.
- 10:30Fine, fine, shenanigans.
- 10:33Okay.
- 10:33But what I'm saying is for the rest of us, normal humans, especially those of us
- 10:37that are automotive enthusiasts, listening to this, the GR series cars are hot.
- 10:41Whether you're into the 86 or the super or the Corolla or the Yaris or any of those,
- 10:45let's just say Toyota's the place to go.
- 10:47If you want a hot hatch or a sports car right now from the.
- 10:51Not American market.
- 10:52So let's just say you pick up a Corolla for 40, 000.
- 10:55Cybertruck's 100, 000.
- 10:56You can't tow anything with either of them.
- 10:59You can actually probably get more in the back of that Corolla
- 11:01hatchback than the Cybertruck.
- 11:03How much are you actually spending on gas after seven years on a GR Corolla?
- 11:08Even if you bought that.
- 11:10What is it?
- 11:10The meat Sano edition or whatever that thing is that they have the special
- 11:14one, add another 10 grand to it.
- 11:15You're still going to come out on top with a gas car.
- 11:18It's sort of like when we would debate diesel versus gas and people were
- 11:23like, I'm not buying a diesel truck because there's a 20, 000 tax on it.
- 11:27And I'm never going to recoup the amount of diesel.
- 11:29Cause diesel's more expensive, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah,
- 11:30blah, all this kind of stuff.
- 11:31I'm wondering if this debate about some of these EVs, especially really expensive
- 11:36ones like this, is it really worth?
- 11:38Buying the EV when you can buy, let's say a couple year old off lease
- 11:42Mercedes Benz, that's depreciated, have a really nice car money left over.
- 11:47How much gas are you going to buy in that seven year period?
- 11:50Let's say if you own a Mercedes, I do have a correction to make though.
- 11:54Breaking news.
- 11:55My foundation series is not the tri motor cyber beast.
- 11:59Oh, it's just the dual motor.
- 12:01So the dual motor is a hundred thousand dollars.
- 12:04When the dual motor was supposed to be 80, 000 when they first announced it.
- 12:08Do we have a countdown timer for this?
- 12:10Like we did with the DeLorean.
- 12:12Do you remember that?
- 12:12That we need the same thing for you.
- 12:14Oh, the stopwatch was stopped back in 2019 because I'm not actually ever going
- 12:18to pick up one of these fucking things.
- 12:18No, because you want a bucket of chicken for this.
- 12:21Yes.
- 12:21I want a bucket of chicken.
- 12:23I will even take a bucket 2019.
- 12:25You know what?
- 12:26No, I want.
- 12:27When it was first announced, one of the day one Popeye's had that chicken
- 12:31sandwich that was sold out and people were like stabbing each other for him.
- 12:35I want one of those, give me one of those Popeye's chicken sandwiches and
- 12:38you can have my a hundred dollars.
- 12:41So you're saying that's worth more than your cyber truck a lot, man.
- 12:44I, I, yeah, yes, yes, exactly.
- 12:46Even if you did get your cyber truck, I'm going to convince you to buy
- 12:49this thing by the time it's over.
- 12:50Right.
- 12:51This is like our little, what should I buy here?
- 12:52You're not going to convince my wallet to buy it.
- 12:54You only get one car to buy.
- 12:56It's a cyber truck, but you only get one car to buy.
- 12:59And it's the cyber truck.
- 12:59I guess I'm riding my bicycle cyber bike.
- 13:02Think of the mulch you can haul or you can't haul.
- 13:07Apparently we'll talk about that too.
- 13:08If you did take delivery of this thing, let's say you set up all the financing
- 13:12and you're making your payments and all this kind of stuff, and you could,
- 13:15I got my cyber truck and you decide in three months, you want to get rid of it.
- 13:18There was a bunch of, again, shenanigans are the words I'm going
- 13:21to use here about whether or not you could actually unload the car,
- 13:25trade it in, get rid of it, sell it.
- 13:27Were you going to get sued?
- 13:29Aren't you going to get sued?
- 13:30I still don't know the answer to this.
- 13:31I don't know either.
- 13:32I would assume you would get sued, but it depends.
- 13:35I think if you try to flip it for more than you paid, like if I took it to
- 13:39CarMax and said, Hey, will you take this?
- 13:40First of all, they won't take it.
- 13:41But second of all, If CarMax was to take it, I certainly wouldn't get market value.
- 13:46I'd get below market value for it.
- 13:48So I don't think Tesla would have a problem with that.
- 13:50I think they're trying to stop the people that are taking their day one
- 13:54investment and flipping it to somebody else for 150, 200, 000, which is what I
- 14:00was hoping to do until I couldn't even get it about to get a chicken for it.
- 14:03You mentioned before that they're offering people a thousand bucks
- 14:07to change their reservations over.
- 14:09Is that in the system?
- 14:10Can you do that now?
- 14:10Can you convert that to a.
- 14:12Isla model three reservation instead?
- 14:14Not anymore.
- 14:16I could only have done that by end of year last year.
- 14:18That's really timely too, because they just announced that they're
- 14:21going to be restyling the model three.
- 14:24So if you missed that window and said, you know what the heck with
- 14:27the cyber truck, I want to get that new model three that's coming out.
- 14:29Now you're sort of stuck.
- 14:31But with again, what you got, uh, okay.
- 14:33So that's out the window.
- 14:34That's no fun.
- 14:35You can't sell it.
- 14:36You can't get a thousand bucks for it.
- 14:37You can't get the economic rebate from the government for it.
- 14:42The price went up because of inflation from the day they announced it.
- 14:45Exactly.
- 14:46Exactly.
- 14:47What are you going to do?
- 14:47What are you to do?
- 14:48Well, you're going to buy a bucket of chicken because you're hungry,
- 14:51but nobody's going to give it to you for that Cybertruck allotment.
- 14:53We've established that.
- 14:54I'm going to get my a hundred dollars back and then I'm going to buy a
- 14:56hundred dollars worth of chicken.
- 14:57And I'm going to share it with my closest friends.
- 14:59And I think this next article sort of hits this idea right on the head,
- 15:03which is the Cybertruck is just another bloated EV that misses the
- 15:07point of being green transportation.
- 15:10And this is written by like an IT blog or whatever.
- 15:13And so they're comparing the Cybertruck to the F 150 and the
- 15:16Rivian R1T and all this kind of stuff.
- 15:17I have this like, dodoy moment when I look at this because it is not functional.
- 15:23And this does give us an opportunity to talk about the aesthetics of the truck.
- 15:26I haven't seen one in person yet.
- 15:28You know, there's rumors people have seen them and that they're
- 15:30out there and this and that.
- 15:31And you see the videos like on YouTube and stuff.
- 15:33I don't know what to think.
- 15:35I don't know who to believe when people say, Oh, it's so amazing.
- 15:39It looks so good.
- 15:40What do you consider ugly?
- 15:41Right?
- 15:42I guess I need to phrase it that way because I don't see the beauty.
- 15:46I can understand someone in the art community trying to explain to me why you
- 15:50bism and all the Picasso and the melting clocks and all this stuff is beautiful.
- 15:55Okay, great.
- 15:56But I don't see the beauty in this thing.
- 15:59I think beautiful is.
- 16:01The wrong word.
- 16:02There's nothing beautiful about it.
- 16:04There are very few cars these days that are beautiful.
- 16:07But why would you buy this thing?
- 16:08Is it just ironic?
- 16:10Is it like those memes that I don't understand?
- 16:12Because in that very peak, it looks like it's got a lot of headroom for the driver.
- 16:17That's all I care about.
- 16:18Have you seen anybody?
- 16:19sit in it?
- 16:19No.
- 16:20It's like a Supra.
- 16:21You're on the slope side of the roof.
- 16:23So there is no headroom.
- 16:24Oh, well, that's dumb.
- 16:25It's so weird.
- 16:26I don't even know how you see out of these.
- 16:27I don't get it.
- 16:28It's so when you flip it over, you can spin it around when
- 16:32you flip it on the trail.
- 16:33So yeah, it's just another bloated truck.
- 16:36Bloated EV.
- 16:37Not good as a truck.
- 16:38There you go.
- 16:38It's not good as an EV.
- 16:40What is it good as?
- 16:41Well, I don't know because let's talk about that all wheel drive system
- 16:44and those fabulous all terrain tires that Tanya got so excited about.
- 16:47Have you seen these videos of the few Cybertrucks that are out in the snow?
- 16:51None of them.
- 16:52I haven't seen the ones in the snow, but I saw the one that wrecked.
- 16:54That was a while ago, but these ones in the snow, I mean, you can see See the
- 16:58all wheel drive trying to do something.
- 16:59There's definitely some latency from front to back because obviously
- 17:02the systems aren't connected.
- 17:03It's not like quattro or like a Jeep or something like that.
- 17:06There's no mechanical all wheel drive here.
- 17:07It's all digital, right?
- 17:08These all terrain tires must be slicks because they don't work.
- 17:12And then the hilarious video was over on jalopnik and the cyber truck gets
- 17:16pulled out by like a regular F three 50.
- 17:19Looked like he was just off the showroom.
- 17:20Like nothing special.
- 17:21It's not like he had a lift kit, you know, 93 inch tires with big foot knobs on her.
- 17:26Hold the Cybertruck out.
- 17:27And the Cybertruck's not light by any stretch of the imagination, but
- 17:30that's something to be said too.
- 17:31You have a heavy vehicle in the snow.
- 17:33It should kind of like, let's say, push itself down into the ground.
- 17:35If you have decent tires, you should be able to get around, but
- 17:38it can't get out of its own way.
- 17:39It looks like snow and ice is stuck in the grooves of the tires.
- 17:43So basically you've created a slick.
- 17:45I'm assuming it doesn't have a low range transfer case.
- 17:48Well, why would it?
- 17:49It's all digital, right?
- 17:50There's no real all wheel drive system in there.
- 17:53I know, I know.
- 17:54I bet an Audi could get out of that hole.
- 17:55I mean, that second video where he's kind of going up the driveway and
- 17:59you see him just like the back ends like fishtailing and stuff and it's
- 18:03just trying to crab walk its way up.
- 18:04To your point, I think a Audi could do that.
- 18:08My Jeep could definitely do that.
- 18:09There's a lot of other four wheel drive vehicles that could do it.
- 18:11So you're paying all this extra money for dual motor, tri motor, whatever for what?
- 18:16To have a bunch of extra stuff in the rain?
- 18:19This thing could be front wheel drive and I guess it'd
- 18:21be like the new Aztec, I guess.
- 18:22To be fair, a lot of vehicles would get stuck like that, though.
- 18:26It depends on how you're driving it.
- 18:27It depends on if you've got a low range.
- 18:29I think your Jeep's got a 4 low that you can put it in, which is, it's
- 18:32different gearing and changes the power delivery, which is necessary
- 18:36in snow and stuff like that.
- 18:37You know what?
- 18:38This reminds me of on Top Gear, they used to make fun of the BMW X5s.
- 18:41Yeah.
- 18:42Because the all wheel drive system in those was not very good.
- 18:45If they had appropriate tires or maybe they should put chains on their tires.
- 18:48Kind of defeats the purpose though.
- 18:49My truck would probably look like that.
- 18:51with an empty bed with no weight over the rear.
- 18:53I guess the battery's in the rear though.
- 18:54I'm not impressed though.
- 18:55And I don't think a lot of people are, and you know what
- 18:57else really isn't impressive.
- 18:59We've talked about it many times before, which are these stupid
- 19:02drag races, Tesla versus the world.
- 19:04And this latest one is just, I don't even know what to say.
- 19:08It's just a spectacle.
- 19:10I also heard that it was a complete farce and it's.
- 19:13Mostly produced and or staged.
- 19:14So it's a Cybertruck that's trailering a 911.
- 19:18Drag racing a 911.
- 19:20And what am I supposed to take away from this?
- 19:22Who won?
- 19:23Well, who do you think won?
- 19:24And they were doing a what, quarter mile?
- 19:26Quarter mile drag race.
- 19:27I would assume an electric vehicle can get up to the quarter mile faster.
- 19:31But again, what is the point?
- 19:33Who cares?
- 19:34It wasn't even a tea can?
- 19:35No!
- 19:36It was a regular gas 9 11.
- 19:38Both are base level 9 11 Carreras.
- 19:40So, no additional power or anything like that.
- 19:43It's just a base 9 11.
- 19:44Which is still no slouch.
- 19:46It's 350, 400 horsepower in the base level 9 11, so.
- 19:49Tesla and Porsche go back and forth all the time with who's better.
- 19:53I don't know why.
- 19:54Yeah, but you don't see a 911 towing a Model 3 or a take hand towing a Model 3.
- 19:58It doesn't make any sense.
- 19:59Cayenne.
- 20:00So that's what they should have done.
- 20:02That's what Porsche needs to come back with.
- 20:04With a Cayenne Turbo towing a Model 3.
- 20:06And blowing this thing out of the water.
- 20:08Publicity stunt for the sake of publicity stunts.
- 20:11To me, it doesn't make any sense.
- 20:12It's just another stupid Tesla drag race.
- 20:14As far as I'm concerned.
- 20:15Yep.
- 20:16If you didn't think things could get any stupider.
- 20:18No, wait, you have to go back to Brad's Foundation Edition.
- 20:21You haven't talked about the range it's going to get.
- 20:23Oh, oh?
- 20:24There's a gentleman out there in the world who also, I guess, put a day one
- 20:28reservation in and has his Foundation Edition Cybertruck, decided to take
- 20:33it on a 27 hour, 1, 340 mile road trip from Austin, Texas to California.
- 20:39And he had to stop 12 times to recharge it.
- 20:44At 30 minutes of charge, that's wow, an additional, I'm assuming you
- 20:50took a longer than 27 hours then.
- 20:53Yeah.
- 20:53I mean, that's like 111 miles per chart.
- 20:57Like what?
- 20:58Yeah, that's not good.
- 20:59That is terrible.
- 21:00So here it says 318 mile range estimated or 340 mile range with the all season
- 21:07tires, which are available to purchase.
- 21:10So those trucks that you saw may not even have the all terrain,
- 21:13they may just have all seasons.
- 21:14Oh man.
- 21:15Which are not good anyway.
- 21:17And also apparently the truck doesn't fit well to the charger, and so it
- 21:21basically maxes out the cable length.
- 21:23The Tesla chargers barely reach.
- 21:26charge port.
- 21:26So you have that to contend with.
- 21:28Also, you better back it up real close.
- 21:30That's like the people that pull into the gas station on the wrong
- 21:33side of the pump, and then they're dragging it around the side of their
- 21:36car, trying to pump it because they don't feel like moving their car.
- 21:39Been there, done that.
- 21:40And then the towing capacity, I thought it was supposed to
- 21:42be over 20, 000 pounds towing.
- 21:44It's only 11.
- 21:45My current truck gets 9, 900.
- 21:47Then there's plenty of other pickups.
- 21:48They can do 000 pounds.
- 21:51Yeah.
- 21:51How about anything diesel can do easily?
- 21:5415, 20.
- 21:55So Brad, do you remember when we gave you the option, you know, when
- 21:58you're still trying to sell, well, Oh wait, you are still trying to
- 22:01sell your cyber truck allotment when we talked about the Plyber truck.
- 22:04Do you remember that one?
- 22:05On Craigslist?
- 22:06Yes, the one that was built on an MDX.
- 22:08Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 22:09It was quality, right?
- 22:11It was, yeah, quality.
- 22:13It was IKEA quality.
- 22:15Dude, those panel gaps were really, really nice, okay?
- 22:18You remember, we've talked before, there's been other people that
- 22:21have made cars out of wood, right?
- 22:23That guy that, you know, restored his Dogebo out of wood, and there's a
- 22:27guy that made a Ferrari out of wood, and But there's this dude in Vietnam
- 22:30that seems to just have a real knack for building replicas of vehicles.
- 22:34And he's at it again, and he built a wooden Cybertruck.
- 22:38I don't know what it's based on, but he said he was going to send it to Elon
- 22:43because, quote, I am aware that Tesla has faced its share of challenges in
- 22:48bringing the Cybertruck to fruition.
- 22:50However, I maintain unwavering faith in your vision and Capabilities of Tesla.
- 22:56I hope to have the honor of gifting this wooden cyber truck to you
- 23:00and Tesla to wish you and Tesla continued success and to maintain your
- 23:04position in the international arena.
- 23:07This guy's super nice.
- 23:08He spent 15 grand on this thing.
- 23:10It looks better than the real thing.
- 23:13Oh my God.
- 23:13He built a wooden ATV with it.
- 23:16Yeah, man.
- 23:16That's legit.
- 23:17It's tube frame.
- 23:19This thing's awesome.
- 23:19I would pay 15 grand for this as a side by side.
- 23:22That's the real Plymouth shark right there.
- 23:24Here's the deal.
- 23:25Elon actually responded to this guy.
- 23:27He has these eloquent emails that he sent out that have been leaked to
- 23:31the public and things like he's, you know, he's I've got a great way of
- 23:33presenting this as a way with words.
- 23:35I will say that's absolutely marketing genius.
- 23:38So what did he say in response to this gentleman?
- 23:40Sure.
- 23:40Much appreciated.
- 23:41I was surprised you didn't go here, Tanya, but we're going to go here now
- 23:45because his reaction was so benign.
- 23:47Sure.
- 23:48Much appreciated because what he should have really said
- 23:51is what he said on Twitter.
- 23:52Go F yourself.
- 23:53What was that in response to?
- 23:55So I don't even remember because it could have applied to so many things.
- 23:57It was stupid and it went viral.
- 23:59I forget what it was and he responded to some It was some interview or something
- 24:03and he told the guy to go F himself.
- 24:04And I'm just like, ugh.
- 24:05But it was on Twitter, which is a platform that everybody's been Bailing
- 24:09ship like rats off the Titanic.
- 24:11I don't really care, but I thought it was hilarious.
- 24:14Go Elon!
- 24:15Woo!
- 24:15Who cares?
- 24:16He was responding to advertisers boycotting X.
- 24:19That's a good way to get your advertisers back.
- 24:21Ha ha ha.
- 24:22X gonna give it to you.
- 24:23That's the marketing campaign right there.
- 24:25X gonna give it to you.
- 24:26X marks the spot.
- 24:27A man with so many things to say.
- 24:29And that's it.
- 24:30I mean, this guy went out of his way to build this beautiful Plymouth truck.
- 24:33All jokes aside, it is really nice.
- 24:35What he should do is share with Elon Musk, his manufacturing process.
- 24:40'cause a hundred days, I feel like that's gonna beat cyber
- 24:43truck manufacturing and delivery.
- 24:46Yeah.
- 24:46Right times.
- 24:47It looks really good too.
- 24:48I I would totally buy it.
- 24:50It looks kind of small though, but it, it looks good.
- 24:52I like it.
- 24:53I think it's the scale.
- 24:54I think it's that it's not stainless steel.
- 24:55That it looks smaller than it really is.
- 24:57And because it's not stainless steel, you know what else it has going for it.
- 25:00No smudge marks and you can clean it with pledge.
- 25:04It's a modern day Morgan.
- 25:05Lemony fresh.
- 25:06Yes, lemony fresh.
- 25:08Well, Brad, you know, when you do take delivery of your Cybertruck,
- 25:11you're going to have to celebrate.
- 25:13Celebrate my ass.
- 25:15I'm going to celebrate with a divorce if I take delivery of this truck.
- 25:18You're going to celebrate something one way or the other.
- 25:20So let's just say you need to celebrate with a case.
- 25:24Of cyber beer.
- 25:25Oh my God.
- 25:25The angles on that bottle, , right?
- 25:28According to this, it says, Tesla super fans are complaining about the $150
- 25:34cyber beer, calling it hot garbage and posting pictures of rusty bottle caps.
- 25:39It does look like complete swill.
- 25:41It looks like someone pissed on a bottle.
- 25:43Let's say you're partying a little too hard in your garage by yourself.
- 25:47Well, then your Cybertruck can drive you home.
- 25:49Well, yeah, that's true.
- 25:50If you're self driving, according to, yeah.
- 25:52Until it runs into a wall or a firetruck.
- 25:55Did you know if you spill your beer on your Cybertruck, you can now get renewed?
- 26:02Cyber shield cleaned it up with.
- 26:03Wow.
- 26:05I mean, I would have just gone with Windex.
- 26:07Oh no, stainless steel, barkeeper's friend.
- 26:09Yeah, barkeeper's friend.
- 26:10That's what you should use on that thing.
- 26:12But no, special cyber shield.
- 26:14But the big question is, and this next article had me laughing, and
- 26:17I thought of Tanya when I read it.
- 26:19Does the cyber shield, which is a cleaning and protective layer, blah,
- 26:23blah, blah, all these wonderful paint protection products and chemicals we
- 26:26have these days, you know, graphene and carbon ceramic and all this stuff.
- 26:30But the question is, does it actually protect against bird shit?
- 26:34Because reports are coming in that bird droppings can actually ruin the
- 26:39stainless steel finish of the Cybertruck.
- 26:41So Brad, you had to worry in the past about birds sitting on a tree
- 26:45ranch and pooping on your golf.
- 26:46Now it could burn a hole in the stainless steel of your Cybertruck.
- 26:49How did DeLorean get away with it?
- 26:51None of them ran.
- 26:52They were all parked in garages, I guess.
- 26:54See, you answered your own question.
- 26:55Exactly.
- 26:56Well, then you just take it to the factory and have them replace the body panel that
- 27:00got damaged for thousands of dollars.
- 27:02So what happens in the winter?
- 27:04Cause obviously there's bird droppings are maybe acidic or whatnot.
- 27:09And you know, over time could corrode or oxidize.
- 27:12the stainless steel because it's not impermeable to things, but like salt
- 27:17is not that good on stainless steel.
- 27:19You get that nice crust on the salt on the stainless steel.
- 27:22And sometimes in poor quality stainless steel, and you'll see it in like cookware,
- 27:26when you throw salt in the water to boil the water for pasta and things
- 27:29like that, you can actually get pitting that happens on the bottom of the pan
- 27:32when you put the salt in at the end.
- 27:34Improper time and things like that.
- 27:35So in the wintertime when they've put the brine and all that stuff down on
- 27:38the roads and you're driving around and you can't wash The car right away
- 27:43because it's 17 degrees outside You're gonna go out and it's gonna be like fred
- 27:46flintstone And you're gonna be able to see through the doors and the fenders.
- 27:49I mean I said it before People you have stainless steel appliances
- 27:54in your home the fridge the stove the dishwasher You get a drop of
- 27:58water on it two minutes later.
- 28:00The thing looks like you vomited all over it And you're sitting there
- 28:02buffing it every two minutes so that it's shiny and nice looking.
- 28:06But you have carbon ceramic graphene shield spray on car
- 28:09detailers to take care of all that.
- 28:11Okay, and then when the rock chip hits it and breaks that coating and then the
- 28:16surface is exposed, it can start looking like when your wheels pit after a while.
- 28:21Cancer that happens.
- 28:23Exactly.
- 28:23Coatings.
- 28:24To think that bird droppings could ruin the finish isn't unfathomable.
- 28:29That's not unheard of because droppings if you leave it on a regular painted
- 28:33car will eat through the clear coat after a while and can cause damage.
- 28:38Well not only that, in talking to DeLorean owners and listening to how they do
- 28:42car care and stuff, there is a certain way to clean the stainless and to your
- 28:47point barkeepers friend and some other these household cleaners is the way to
- 28:50go but you also have to remember that you need to grain the stainless steel
- 28:54no kidding done in a certain direction on regular paint now umbrella pad you
- 28:59see what happens if you use like even a soft thing sometimes on cookware.
- 29:03God forbid, like, you're rubbing it with something that has some sort of
- 29:06grit that you don't realize, you're gonna have massive swirl marks.
- 29:10It's gonna look terrible.
- 29:11Maybe all our concerns are completely unfounded and
- 29:14unwarranted, and we just don't know.
- 29:17We're just not happy.
- 29:18We're grumpy curmudgeons screaming at the clouds.
- 29:20Everybody's going, you don't understand!
- 29:22Well, the Cybertruck is so awesome, it's just as funny as these memes.
- 29:26Yeah, I think to that point, this is going to be a golden age for our show,
- 29:30because we can rag on the Cybertruck with all the new articles about how
- 29:33terrible it is for years to come.
- 29:36In perpetuity.
- 29:37I don't even want to give them air time.
- 29:39Well, we're going to do it for the rest of this episode.
- 29:42So guess what?
- 29:43The Onion.
- 29:44Cracked me up.
- 29:45So I'm reading about bird shit on the Cybertruck and next across my desk,
- 29:49I get this from The Onion, which I know is a farce, but it cracked me up
- 29:53about pressure washing the Cybertruck.
- 29:56And they basically CGI'd or AI rendered the Cybertruck just getting
- 30:01obliterated by a power washer.
- 30:03And I just thought it was funny.
- 30:05You think about it.
- 30:05I've seen people wash their trucks.
- 30:07With a power washer, why wouldn't you power wash a stainless steel truck?
- 30:11Because the people that power wash their regular trucks aren't buying Cybertrucks.
- 30:15The people that are buying Cybertrucks, they're going to take them to
- 30:17their power wash down the street.
- 30:19They're not going to wash it in their driveway.
- 30:21So I heard a good one.
- 30:21I was out in California.
- 30:23Over the winter talking to somebody and, you know, you see a lot of the Wemos,
- 30:27which are these driverless taxi cabs and stuff, which I thought were interesting.
- 30:30Somebody actually said they took a ride in one, which is a weird lottery system
- 30:34to get involved with those things anyway.
- 30:36And I was like, wow, you're pretty daring.
- 30:38Like, I don't know that I would do that.
- 30:39And then they actually kind of changed the conversation into, well, you
- 30:42know, my Tesla and the self driving.
- 30:43And I was like, oh, okay.
- 30:44And I just sort of played stupid and let them talk.
- 30:46And I said, Oh, you know, those systems have a long way to go.
- 30:49And I don't know that I would trust my Tesla to drive me around.
- 30:52Like the Wemo does, you know, you see all those cameras.
- 30:54And then they said to me, it's okay.
- 30:55Because you know, Tesla is switching from radar sonar, you know, the system
- 31:00they have, and I'm thinking to myself, okay, well, it's LIDAR just keep talking.
- 31:04Right.
- 31:04So I'm thinking to myself, and the gentleman says they're
- 31:06going to be switching to neural.
- 31:09Net technology.
- 31:10At which point I'm biting my cheek on the inside because
- 31:15I'm trying not to show my hand.
- 31:18And I'm thinking to myself, all right, there are commander data, you and
- 31:21your positronic brain in the test.
- 31:23I'm like, get the hell out of here.
- 31:25You know what?
- 31:25Stay tuned folks.
- 31:26Laser beams mounted on sharks, neural net.
- 31:29Commander data technology up next for Tesla.
- 31:31So, and my Tesla roadster too.
- 31:33There's a lot of articles on it.
- 31:34I mean, I've been talking about it for a while.
- 31:36Well, Brad, you're out of luck, man.
- 31:38You're trying to sell this cyber truck here in the United
- 31:41States for a bucket of chicken.
- 31:42And I was thinking, you know what?
- 31:43Maybe if Americans won't buy your allotment, you could
- 31:47sell it to somebody overseas.
- 31:48Maybe somebody in Asia wants it.
- 31:50Maybe somebody in Europe wants it.
- 31:51Maybe, maybe.
- 31:52There's a whole list of reasons why the Cybertruck won't be going to Europe.
- 31:57Let's face it.
- 31:58Tanya's mentioned it before.
- 31:59The overall size of the vehicle.
- 32:01Shipping it from California to Europe.
- 32:04There's a lot of obstacles in that.
- 32:05But if we get lucky, it could get lost at sea on a shipping container ship.
- 32:10We would lose hundreds of them.
- 32:12That only happens to Porsches and Lamborghinis.
- 32:14There's all these obstacles getting it through the European version of like the
- 32:19DOT and getting it approved and, you know, safety testing and all that kind of stuff
- 32:23is a lot more strict than it is over here.
- 32:25Granted, they don't have to worry about the emission side because
- 32:27it's an EV, but do they have the charging network to support it?
- 32:31You know, all those kinds of things.
- 32:32Do we have the charging network to support?
- 32:34Well, I wasn't going to get into that.
- 32:36Also, there's an issue with the gross vehicle weight being
- 32:39between 8 and 9, 000 pounds.
- 32:42So four and four and a half tons.
- 32:44That's also a problem with Europe.
- 32:45It's just too big.
- 32:47It's just too heavy.
- 32:48The issue that the Cybertruck is just gross, regardless of gross vehicle weight.
- 32:52It's just gross.
- 32:53And that sort of leads into our final article about the Cybertruck.
- 32:56Elon Musk, and I quote, we dug our own grave with the Cybertruck.
- 33:01I guess it was shortly after he announced, Oh, it's coming in November.
- 33:03And then, Oh, we dug our own grave on this.
- 33:06Basically like, yeah, this is a bad idea, but we're doing it anyway.
- 33:11What kind of business sense is that though?
- 33:13And I mean, we're past the point of no return, right?
- 33:15I guess there's enough people that want this that they're going to build it.
- 33:19It's still a year and a half from being cash positive.
- 33:22He said scaling the production is still a problem.
- 33:25So to your point, Brad, if you'd actually click yes to that order, it'll
- 33:28be a couple of years till you see it.
- 33:29Probably.
- 33:30If you place that order, how much of a deposit do you have to put down?
- 33:33When I did the estimator, it was 4, 500.
- 33:36Do you start paying on it right away?
- 33:38You haven't taken delivery of your Cybertruck.
- 33:40You're not going to finalize the loan until there's a VIN number.
- 33:42Are you sure?
- 33:43Because they can generate a soft VIN number and reserve it for you and say,
- 33:47this is going to be your chassis number.
- 33:49But a bank is not going to fund that loan until there's an actual vehicle.
- 33:53That they could repossess when you don't pay.
- 33:55You're using logic, my friend.
- 33:56You're going to go through the Tesla financing corporation.
- 34:00Oh, that's right.
- 34:01That's right.
- 34:01And they can repossess unicorns and glitter.
- 34:04That's right.
- 34:05It's like software.
- 34:06I'm going to generate you a license key, but your trial hasn't started yet.
- 34:09Oh, you mean how they generate stock value?
- 34:12They'll just generate it out of thin air.
- 34:14So they're going to allot you your VIN.
- 34:16You're going to start paying on a truck that you're not
- 34:17going to receive for two years.
- 34:18I think this is a good deal.
- 34:20That means I'm two years into my seven year loan.
- 34:23And all of a sudden, when I get the truck, it's a five year loan.
- 34:26And don't forget, it's an armed loan, so it's adjustable rate.
- 34:30So wait a minute, when I buy it at the 100, 000 or whatever, does that mean,
- 34:35I haven't technically driven it off the lot, but when I actually take possession,
- 34:39does it mean it's worth 30, 000?
- 34:41Yeah, because you have two years of depreciation.
- 34:43But not two years of wear and tear.
- 34:44I would tell you this, if you were in a different state of life, I'd say send it.
- 34:49Let's make this happen.
- 34:50You gotta get this Cybertruck.
- 34:51It's just gotta happen, right?
- 34:53Just go for it.
- 34:53We got a little homework to do here.
- 34:55I don't think I've convinced you properly to buy this truck.
- 34:58I don't think I could convince anybody to buy this truck.
- 35:00Honestly.
- 35:01I don't think Elon Musk can convince anybody to buy this truck.
- 35:05What are you talking about?
- 35:05I don't see why they have volume in production issues when there aren't going
- 35:10to need to make that many because not that many people are going to take delivery.
- 35:13Demand is artificially high.
- 35:15Just like generating those VIN numbers.
- 35:16Yeah, everybody put in 100 on a whim.
- 35:20Cause like, Oh, it's a fucking hundred dollars.
- 35:21Who cares if the truck ends up, you know, shit in the bed or
- 35:24they never make it or whatever.
- 35:25I lost a hundred dollars.
- 35:26Who cares?
- 35:27Is that how you've rationalized it for yourself?
- 35:29Have you just said I've wasted a hundred dollars on a lot of other things?
- 35:33And let it go.
- 35:34Or do you think you can get your money back?
- 35:36Do you think you can unload this Cybertruck allotment?
- 35:39Getting the money back versus unloading the Cybertruck allotment are two different
- 35:42things, because when I first signed up for it, it was a refundable deposit.
- 35:48So I should be able to technically call up Tesla and say, Hey, you know what?
- 35:51Nevermind.
- 35:53Can I have my a hundred dollars please?
- 35:54Wait, wait, wait.
- 35:54You said call up Tesla.
- 35:56You could talk to a human.
- 35:58Yeah.
- 35:58I'm going to call him up on the cyber webs.
- 36:00I'm going to use my neural net right to Elon.
- 36:04And he's going to cut me a check for a hundred dollars minus a
- 36:07hundred dollars processing fee.
- 36:09So he's going to mail me a check for like 15 cents.
- 36:11If nothing else.
- 36:13They should be paying you interest on the a hundred dollars.
- 36:15It should be like a bond.
- 36:16I was going to say it should be like, yeah, a hundred dollars plus
- 36:195 percent interest over five years.
- 36:20So I'll take that.
- 36:21Exactly.
- 36:22You loaned the Tesla foundation a hundred bucks.
- 36:25It was a charitable donation.
- 36:26You want your money back?
- 36:27I aided in their stock valuation and their inflated cash
- 36:31position and stock valuation.
- 36:32Oh, it was great.
- 36:33Freaking mess there too.
- 36:34And he took that money and bought X.
- 36:37I don't mean, I don't mean ecstasy, although he probably bought that too.
- 36:40X insert variable here, right?
- 36:42Yeah.
- 36:42Well, let's put a pin in this Tesla talk.
- 36:44Let's put a bird shit in this Cybertruck talk.
- 36:46Yeah, exactly.
- 36:48We'll put a pin in this.
- 36:49We'll come back to Tesla a little bit later in the show, but we
- 36:53need to switch over and talk about Volkswagen, Audi, and Porsche news.
- 36:57And I've got one piece of hot hatch information for you, and I've said
- 37:01it before, the end of Volkswagen's.
- 37:05Rain in the hot hatch world was upon us.
- 37:08The end is nigh.
- 37:10We saw it when they said we're doing away with the two door.
- 37:14We're doing away with the turbo four cylinders because we're
- 37:17going EV, blah, blah, blah.
- 37:19Now they finally said no more manual transmissions.
- 37:25That's it, folks.
- 37:26It's over.
- 37:27Is it just in the U.
- 37:28S.
- 37:29or is it globally?
- 37:29Worldwide.
- 37:30They have switched permanently to the DSG.
- 37:322024 will be the last year that the Golf R, which over there they have the GTI 380,
- 37:39that will be sold with the stick shift.
- 37:40So this is it.
- 37:41This is the end.
- 37:42This is the end of the hot hatch era for Volkswagen as far as I'm concerned.
- 37:46So, as I said earlier, Brad, if you fits, you sits.
- 37:49If you want a hot hatch right now in the United States.
- 37:52HGR Corolla is where it's at because nobody else makes anything.
- 37:56The Veloster's gone.
- 37:57Honda hasn't made a hot hatch since I think you're civic in
- 38:00the nineties, but you know, Volkswagen is the last one out door.
- 38:03So we're left with Toyota.
- 38:04Toyota is making some really, really cool stuff.
- 38:06Toyota always doubles down when other people are going left.
- 38:09They always kind of double down.
- 38:11Stay right.
- 38:12They come out ahead.
- 38:13Yes.
- 38:13Always.
- 38:14Did you say the Veloster N is also losing the manual?
- 38:17The Veloster N, they stopped production.
- 38:19All together.
- 38:20So yeah, it's losing the manual, losing the car.
- 38:23What's going to happen in rally?
- 38:24There are already paddle shifters.
- 38:26Mainly kidding, but I was like, what type of cars are they going to use?
- 38:29But I guess they use the Ford Puma and the other cars overseas.
- 38:33Hyundai has the I 20.
- 38:35A slightly bigger version of, like, say, the Veloster.
- 38:38If the Veloster was the Yaris, the i20 is more like the Corolla,
- 38:42although they're very similar.
- 38:43They share, like, a lot of DNA.
- 38:44That's what they're using now.
- 38:46I could have that backwards, though.
- 38:47It could be smaller.
- 38:48It could be more like the Polo.
- 38:49You know, I don't pay that close of attention to the Hyundais that
- 38:52are outside of the United States.
- 38:53States, so it is what it is.
- 38:54So the next step for Volkswagen is to just get rid of the Tiguan
- 38:57and the GTI becomes the Tiguan.
- 38:59Well, the old Tiguan, you mean, because the new Tiguan is actually the old
- 39:03Touareg became the Atlas, whatever, right?
- 39:06It's all turtles, or maybe it's just turds all the way down.
- 39:09And it wasn't earlier this year or last year, they stopped offering the 3.
- 39:132 liter as well.
- 39:14Wasn't everything going to the VR six.
- 39:16Died, yeah, a year or two ago, and that was a 3.
- 39:196 liter.
- 39:19Yeah, that's what I meant, the BR.
- 39:21And so that was another death knell.
- 39:22They're getting out of the gasoline business.
- 39:24They've been saying for a while that they want to go all EV.
- 39:26And then as we reported last year, they, they fired the guy that
- 39:30came up with the retro designs, like the ID buzz and all that.
- 39:33And if you've noticed, they've gotten really quiet about that too.
- 39:36And it's just like, what the hell is going on?
- 39:38And some of the other things I've seen with respect to even stuff that's
- 39:41going on in Audi and Porsche, I'm like, Volkswagen has just lost their way.
- 39:45Yes, they are still in the top five largest manufacturers in the
- 39:49planet, but that's also by volume.
- 39:51They're a conglomerate.
- 39:52They own so many other brands that they can lose their ass on VW while they're
- 39:56making 97 percent of all 911s or GT3 RSs.
- 40:01Now or whatever this lunacy going on at Volkswagen and it's just like, okay
- 40:05guys, and unfortunately hot hatches are still really, really popular overseas.
- 40:10The French are still building them.
- 40:11The Japanese are still building them.
- 40:12They're just not bringing them here.
- 40:14I don't understand.
- 40:15And maybe I never will.
- 40:17Although I own an SUV myself.
- 40:19It is a glorified hatchback at the end of the day and it has its reasons and
- 40:22its purposes and I love my Jeep But I love a hot hatch a proper hot hatch that
- 40:27you could just go thrash on a mountain road or take to the track Put a couple
- 40:31bags of mulch in the back or whatever.
- 40:33There are a lot of fun.
- 40:34It's what makes driving fun I saw something on Instagram the other day.
- 40:37It was one of those throwback posts on somebody's account And
- 40:41it was one of the old Mark 5 GTI commercials, the unpimped Z auto.
- 40:47Oh yeah.
- 40:47With this, this really funky focus.
- 40:49And then they pushed the button and we unpimped Z auto and it's a Mark 5 GTI.
- 40:53I feel like Mark 5 and a little bit into Mark 6, that's the
- 40:57generation when Volkswagen.
- 40:59Completely lost their way.
- 41:00And now they're basically just GM.
- 41:02They've got no direction.
- 41:04They're just releasing junk that nobody really wants.
- 41:06They lost their funkiness, their identity.
- 41:09I think, as you said, their uniqueness, their creativity, it's sad.
- 41:12And unfortunately to fill that void, we're not getting the other European cars.
- 41:17I was hoping we were going to see that with Stellantis when they bought up
- 41:20the PSC, Peugeot and Citroen, right?
- 41:23Altogether.
- 41:23And I was hoping we'd see more of those cars.
- 41:25There was talk about Peugeot coming back to the United.
- 41:27How cool would it be to have 208 now and the 308 and some of those that they have?
- 41:32I mean, those cars are super cool and a lot of fun.
- 41:34And then bringing over, maybe that gives an opportunity for Renault to expand
- 41:39Nissan, which is in desperate need of a shot in the arm in terms of marketing.
- 41:44But ushering in Alpine, that A110, I would buy one tomorrow
- 41:49if they would sell that car here.
- 41:51Of course, we never get the good stuff, God forbid.
- 41:54You should just go out and get an RS6.
- 41:55It's a hard toss up, we've had that debate before.
- 41:57Alfa Romeo, RS6.
- 41:59I've had Audis before, I think I need something different.
- 42:02But, that does open up a conversation.
- 42:04Talking about cars that are going away.
- 42:05The manual transmission's going away, the Veloster's gone, the
- 42:07GTI's basically dead in my book.
- 42:09We need to talk about Stellantis.
- 42:12Oh, we're skipping over Mercedes Benz and BMW.
- 42:14Two car companies that I didn't know still existed.
- 42:17News alert.
- 42:17They don't have any news moving on.
- 42:21There's a lot of drum beating right now over at Chrysler and Dodge
- 42:25about the new 2025 Charger EV.
- 42:29There's a bunch of spy photos.
- 42:30Nothing.
- 42:30Different than you've seen before from the renderings and the car they had
- 42:34at CES and all that kind of stuff.
- 42:35So I don't really want to dive into that because there's
- 42:37nothing really new to report.
- 42:38But what's interesting at this time of the year, and especially next month, when
- 42:43we talk about cars that are going away this year, you know, new cars for 2024.
- 42:47And we'll touch on some of that as we go along here.
- 42:49One of the ones that they've already signed the death certificate on over
- 42:52at Stellantis is the Jeep Renegade.
- 42:55Because apparently, nobody's buying those cars.
- 42:57You know, if I was in the market, if I was a different person, I
- 43:00would actually be interested.
- 43:02I really like the Renegade.
- 43:03To me, it reminds me, I know it's not the same and Tanya will poop on
- 43:06me, but it reminds me of like the U.
- 43:08S.
- 43:09version of like a Fiat Panda.
- 43:11It's a small, all wheel drive, manual transmission, just kind of runabout.
- 43:15Well, it's based on the 500X.
- 43:17So it's a Fiat underneath, and, you know, it had its own quirks and, and whatever,
- 43:21but yeah, to your point, I agree.
- 43:22It was the American version of the Panda.
- 43:24The European Panda, you know, has its own thing, and, and there is a new version
- 43:28of that coming out, as we've learned over the last couple of months, but, Tanya,
- 43:32I mean, if you were in the market for a new car, would you consider the Renegade?
- 43:36I rented one several years back in Hawaii, and it was quite nice for those purposes.
- 43:41Given the landscape of other vehicles.
- 43:44I mean, I would go test drive one.
- 43:46I don't know if I could actually buy one.
- 43:49Because there's a GR Corolla that she wants instead.
- 43:51I mean, I would also test drive one of those.
- 43:56I'm surprised you haven't bought one already.
- 43:57I don't need one.
- 43:59Yet.
- 43:59We're going to put yet on that.
- 44:00If you can't get that brake light working, you might need one.
- 44:03My brake light works wonderfully now.
- 44:05Thank you very much.
- 44:05And it wasn't the brake light that always worked, but my
- 44:08rear tail light is fantastic.
- 44:09Because her mechanic is fantastic.
- 44:11Well, you know, what else is a little bit of sad panda?
- 44:14Would you guys care to guess how many cars Fiat sold last year?
- 44:17None.
- 44:18Worldwide or just in the U.
- 44:20S.?
- 44:20Just in the U.
- 44:20S.
- 44:21Let's see.
- 44:21There are what?
- 44:22350 million Americans.
- 44:25I hardly see any 500s anywhere anymore.
- 44:28Honestly, I can't remember the last time I saw a Fiat.
- 44:30You see one or two alphas.
- 44:32If that, I haven't seen one in a while.
- 44:34Uh, I would say 30.
- 44:37You're way under there, Bob.
- 44:39A hundred thousand.
- 44:40You're way over.
- 44:41Whoa.
- 44:42A hundred thousand.
- 44:42Fifteen thousand.
- 44:44No.
- 44:44I don't even think they brought a hundred thousand to the U.
- 44:46S.
- 44:47They sold 605 cars last year.
- 44:50For the entire brand.
- 44:52Just Fiat.
- 44:53Yes.
- 44:53Not Alfa is another thing.
- 44:54Countrywide.
- 44:55605 fiat.
- 44:57Can you believe that?
- 44:57Now I know our local fiat Alfa Romeo dealer here does not exist anymore.
- 45:02It got absorbed back into the Chrysler building that was already
- 45:06there and they use it as storage.
- 45:08There's not a single Alfa or Fiat on the lot.
- 45:10I think the next closest one is still like in Tyson's corner,
- 45:14like just off the beltway.
- 45:15Goes along with the death of hot hatches.
- 45:18There's why there's a death of hot hatches.
- 45:20Nobody wants something small like a Fiat 500.
- 45:22How many Honda Fits do you see around?
- 45:24Did they stop making the Honda Fit already?
- 45:25Yeah, they did.
- 45:26A couple years ago?
- 45:27Nobody wants a car that small.
- 45:29You know, they bring over stuff like the Hornet, which is really the Alpha Tonale.
- 45:34It's the same size as the Jeep Cherokee.
- 45:36Not the Grand Cherokee, the small Cherokee, which they're also
- 45:40talking about getting rid of.
- 45:41Okay, Fiat, you control everything.
- 45:44You pretty much own every company that's over there.
- 45:46You've got that big Maserati.
- 45:48SUV that nobody buys, why not Reba that as something and bring it out as a
- 45:54Hil luxe, uh, for a male that's bigger than the Stelvio and even the Stelvio,
- 45:59it's a gi on stilts, but it is cool it, and if you've seen them fixed up
- 46:03with big wheels and that you buy the Q4 version, they're pretty awesome.
- 46:07Where do you go see one?
- 46:09Where do you go buy one?
- 46:10I feel that Fiat suffers in the same way Nissan does.
- 46:13They don't know how to market themselves and they can't blame.
- 46:16Well, Oh, back in the sixties, when we brought the chink with Chanto to America,
- 46:20it was a turd and everybody hated it.
- 46:22And all the came from the factory with rusted panels, Fiat one
- 46:2631s and spiders and all one 24s and all that kind of stuff.
- 46:29Guys, it's a quality product.
- 46:31The Fiat 500 won best car of the year in Europe, like over and over and over
- 46:34again for like years running, but you have other stuff, you have other cars.
- 46:39Try to bring something over here.
- 46:41And I feel like it was all half hearted, but if they are slowly
- 46:45starting to peel back the offerings.
- 46:47What is the big parent Stellantis going to do longer term?
- 46:52What's their goal?
- 46:53Because Chrysler doesn't have anything but the van.
- 46:56Dodge has no cars right now because the Charger's dead and
- 46:59the Challenger's dead and the new Charger is like two years away.
- 47:02So they're selling Jeeps, but even there, they're cutting the Jeep line down to
- 47:06the Grand Cherokee and the Wagoneer.
- 47:08So what I'm wondering is, are we seeing the death of Stellantis in the U S?
- 47:13I think Stellantis is priming themselves to be bought by somebody else.
- 47:18Toyota's not going to touch them.
- 47:19General Motors doesn't want them.
- 47:21Ford doesn't want them.
- 47:22Volkswagen's not going to buy them.
- 47:23GM is all about buying shitty companies.
- 47:26GM will do it.
- 47:27GM will buy them.
- 47:28I love this stat.
- 47:29605 cars sold in the US.
- 47:32And an entire year out of 357 dealers.
- 47:35That's less than two cars per dealer.
- 47:37How did those dealers even stay open?
- 47:39I don't know, but it's terribly sad.
- 47:40I will say for Christmas, Henry got a box of Hot Wheels cars.
- 47:45And in it, one of his favorite cars is a little Fiat 500 that he calls a beetle.
- 47:51Because he also got an old like seventies beetle in that box as well.
- 47:55That's awesome.
- 47:56So he's got his beetle and then he's got his, his fetal.
- 47:59You know, we don't have a ton to talk about in terms of the rest of our domestic
- 48:03news sponsored by American muscle.
- 48:05com.
- 48:05You're a source for OEM and performance parts for your
- 48:08Ford Chevy or Mopar product.
- 48:10What I came up with over the winter, you know, things.
- 48:12Again, are very quiet.
- 48:13There's an Italian company that's a modding C8 Corvettes.
- 48:17And I wanted to see what you guys thought.
- 48:19Modding them to do what?
- 48:20This new car is called the S1 Coupe by a company called Aries out of Modena.
- 48:26And they're rebodying the C8 Corvette.
- 48:29We've argued before that the C8 Corvette sort of looks like an NSX and a kind of
- 48:35rip off of a Ferrari and this and that.
- 48:37So there's a history in Italy of doing this.
- 48:39There's tons of Carazzorias.
- 48:41Out there that have rebodied cars, whether it's, you know, Zagato or
- 48:44Pininfarina or Scaglietti or Bertone or whatever, Aries are coming to the
- 48:49table and they said, we're going to put pen to paper and we're going to come
- 48:53up with a new body for the Corvette C8.
- 48:55I look at it, it's got gold wings and reminds me of a McLaren.
- 48:59Yeah.
- 48:59It's an Italian McLaren.
- 49:01The Gordon Murray, right?
- 49:02Same kind of thing.
- 49:03And I'm just like.
- 49:04I mean, it doesn't look bad as far as hyper looking cars go or something,
- 49:08but if someone just showed the picture to you, I would have no idea
- 49:12it had anything to do with Corvette.
- 49:13I think that's the point.
- 49:14You get the power plant and the drivetrain and all the awesome stuff of the
- 49:17Corvette, but you know, they sort of redid everything to include the interior, which
- 49:21this is a lot nicer and it looks to be a lot roomier and more comfortable than
- 49:26the C8 Corvette comes from the factory.
- 49:28If, Brad, you've sat in a C8, you know what it looks like with that.
- 49:30Funky dashboard with the buttons that go up the side towards the passenger
- 49:35seat and all that crazy stuff.
- 49:36It's kind of cramped.
- 49:37This looks like you could actually enjoy this car on a long drive.
- 49:40I'm not saying you can't enjoy a C8 Corvette on a long drive.
- 49:43I can't enjoy a C8 Corvette on a long drive.
- 49:45This looks way more comfortable.
- 49:47So I got to give him props in terms of their interior design.
- 49:50To your point, Tanya, it is hard to discern, especially from the back.
- 49:53To me, the back screams McLaren or Bugatti a little bit.
- 49:58I kind of like it.
- 49:59But then there's certain things I don't like.
- 50:01It's got these snouts over the rear trunk.
- 50:03I don't know if that's where the exhaust comes out.
- 50:05I don't understand what those holes are.
- 50:07Yeah, those are the exhaust.
- 50:08Those don't belong there.
- 50:10It kind of reminds me of a boat.
- 50:11It looks like they took the back of a McLaren P1.
- 50:14Because I think the P1 has the same kind of thing.
- 50:16I will say, in looking at this article, some of the pictures of some of their
- 50:19other projects, I am all about that Aries, Bentley, and all seeing coupe.
- 50:23Because it reminds me of the old Bentley's Bricklins or whatever.
- 50:25The one I gotta give my hat off to as you go down and look
- 50:29at this is the Aries Panther.
- 50:31That looks pretty sick.
- 50:32Yeah, that's an homage to the Pantera.
- 50:35And I was like, build that car.
- 50:38Whatever that is, I'm here for it all day long.
- 50:42That's based on the Huracan.
- 50:43Dude, that is way nicer than the Huracan.
- 50:46That is cool.
- 50:46Why can't Volkswagen build stuff like that?
- 50:48Because they're too busy taking manual transmission out of
- 50:51cars that people want to drive.
- 50:52I would put my money down on that Panther.
- 50:54That's really, really cool.
- 50:55I would too.
- 50:56We have a little bit of Asian domestic news.
- 50:59I've been following this build for a while.
- 51:01It's on Instagram.
- 51:03It's all over the place.
- 51:04It's a K24 Honda swapped Ferrari 308.
- 51:07Have you guys seen this car?
- 51:08Nope.
- 51:09Oh, dude, it's sick.
- 51:10Gorgeous car.
- 51:11It's a 308.
- 51:12So I don't feel bad.
- 51:13You know, people, oh my god, it's sacrilege.
- 51:15Oh, Ferrari, blah.
- 51:16308's the most mass produced Ferrari on the planet.
- 51:19It's like a Porsche 944.
- 51:20You're like, whatever, okay?
- 51:21It's indicative of the times, right, of the late 70s, early 80s.
- 51:24It was also the car that kept Ferrari out of bankruptcy, much
- 51:28like the 944 did for Porsche.
- 51:29Unfortunately, all the work and effort and all the years I followed
- 51:32these guys building this K24 Honda swap Ferrari, yep, boop, is dead.
- 51:36They blew it up at a grid life global time attack event or whatever.
- 51:40And that's the end of that.
- 51:41But it went out in a heroic ball of white smoke.
- 51:45Did it oil start?
- 51:46Cause all the comments are saying that you can't do that without a proper.
- 51:49So it will live on for another generation because they are going to do a less swap
- 51:55now, which again has oil cooling issues.
- 51:57So they need to make sure that it gets plenty of oil,
- 51:59but why didn't they do that?
- 52:01To begin with, they should do what we see at water fest all the time.
- 52:04They should do a VR swap.
- 52:05Those make a gajillion horsepower and they're pretty damn reliable.
- 52:09I can understand why they went with the Honda power plant drive train and all
- 52:12that, because a lot of people don't know that the 308 is actually transverse.
- 52:17And it's a V8 transverse, right?
- 52:19So think giant Fiat X1 9 at the end of the day.
- 52:21So a Ferrari V8, it's not small.
- 52:24It is in there sideways.
- 52:25So I'm kind of thinking like Fiero now in my head.
- 52:28If an LS fits, like you say, Brad, if I fits, I sits.
- 52:31I would have started with that.
- 52:32Yes, the Honda K motor, blah, blah, blah.
- 52:34But every K swap I've ever seen, whether it was Miatas or other stuff,
- 52:38and even this, they sort of all end in somebody crying in a bowl of Wheaties.
- 52:42If you're going to build, especially a drift car, go V8 or go home.
- 52:46Unless it's a straight six from Nissan back in the day, but you're
- 52:48going to pay a mint for that.
- 52:49So now I'm going to start looking at 308 costs.
- 52:52You don't, they've gone up a lot since I'm sure they have.
- 52:56I'm sure they have.
- 52:56I'll stick to the nine 44s, nine 24s.
- 52:59You mean other random new.
- 53:02News.
- 53:02That's right.
- 53:03Random new EVs and concept cars.
- 53:05So what's hot for 2024?
- 53:07You know, we're going to talk about this more in February as more of these reports
- 53:11come out from all over the industry.
- 53:13But there's about 10, 12 cars here on this list that people are
- 53:16jonesed about right out of the gate.
- 53:18We're looking at the Heidi buzz.
- 53:20Which, again, I haven't heard a whole lot about whether or not and how you
- 53:24can buy it if it's really coming.
- 53:26I mean, yes, I saw one in person at Car Week and it is super cool.
- 53:30It's a lot bigger than I thought it would be.
- 53:32I like a lot of the features and stuff that's going into it.
- 53:34I'm excited that it might be coming out.
- 53:37The question is When?
- 53:38How?
- 53:39Where?
- 53:39Can I order one?
- 53:40I need more details.
- 53:41I need more firm numbers and more information.
- 53:44We got the new Land Cruiser.
- 53:45Brad, you're a Toyota guy.
- 53:46What do you think?
- 53:47It's smaller than the one it's replacing.
- 53:50I don't know.
- 53:50I'm not a fan.
- 53:51It looks like a cross between the FJ Cruiser and the 4Runner.
- 53:55I don't like it.
- 53:55I'll stick with my Tundra and our Sienna.
- 53:58I mean, the rest of the list is Kind of unexciting or cars that
- 54:01we already know about, right?
- 54:02The Volvo XC 30, the New Forester hybrid that we talked about last year.
- 54:06You've got the GR cars and all that, but there's one in particular here that goes
- 54:12back to one of Tonya's favorite actors.
- 54:15He drove one of these cars back in the day.
- 54:17Tell us about one of Patrick Stewart's favorite cars.
- 54:19Probably what the Integra should have been instead of, of the new
- 54:23TSX, the Honda Prelude, which isn't.
- 54:26official.
- 54:27It's kind of like a teaser.
- 54:29There's no firm plan that that's actually going to get built,
- 54:32but the render is a two door.
- 54:34Not that I would call it a hot hatch, but it is a two door panda.
- 54:38This thing is fire.
- 54:40The old Preludes, I've driven Brian's Gen 2.
- 54:43They're fun cars.
- 54:45They had their own, that was the H block motor, like all this kind of
- 54:48stuff, you know, they didn't share any parts with a lot of other cars with the
- 54:51prelude was just kind of its own thing.
- 54:54As you've told me, Patrick Stewart, you know, captain Picard owned a
- 54:57prelude way back when this new one, you're a hundred percent, right?
- 55:00This should be.
- 55:01The Integra.
- 55:03This is super cool, and I hope Honda builds it.
- 55:05It should be the Integra, and it should compete with the, uh, GR86.
- 55:09What would really be the icing on the cake is if Honda would put the Civic Type
- 55:13R motor in this, and for once in a very long time, ditch the front wheel drive.
- 55:19Build this as a rear wheel drive, use the S2000 drivetrain or some variant thereof.
- 55:25Give us a proper sports coupe, and this thing will be killer.
- 55:30I can see this thing selling and flying off the shelves.
- 55:33You're going to have these Hondas running neck and neck with the Supras
- 55:36and the GR 86s and all those things.
- 55:39But the design from these angles, I really like it.
- 55:42I want to see more pictures of it, but I think this is super
- 55:45cool that Honda is going this way.
- 55:46And they need something because as Tanya said before, they've
- 55:49been kind of boring up until now.
- 55:51Like Volkswagen or GM.
- 55:53Does anybody want to buy any cars from any of these brands?
- 55:55GM has the Corvette.
- 55:57They killed the Camaro.
- 55:58Volkswagen has the GTI, which they're killing slowly.
- 56:01They're bleeding that thing to death, but it's sort of like, I
- 56:04hate to say like cars and vacuum cleaners sometimes are very similar.
- 56:07Like you're looking at some of these brands, you're going black
- 56:10and Decker shark, whatever Bissell.
- 56:12And then you got like these other, that's a Dyson.
- 56:15Look at that.
- 56:16Right.
- 56:16It's so futuristic and so different.
- 56:17We joke that cars aren't appliances, but.
- 56:20I feel like they're boiling them down to the point where you could
- 56:23just change the label on them.
- 56:25You still know the quality difference, but every once in a while, it's like,
- 56:28do you buy the Roomba or do you buy the Ecovac Electrolux Electrolux?
- 56:33Yeah.
- 56:33Okay.
- 56:34It's like buying a Packard.
- 56:35Talked earlier about the Cybertruck.
- 56:37Here's the list of the EVs that are eligible for instant tax rebates.
- 56:41As of the 1st of January, it's basically every Chevy model.
- 56:45Ford, Lightning, and the Tesla's.
- 56:47There you go.
- 56:48And it used to be, you'd get the 7, 500 tax credit.
- 56:52I'm sure they've changed that number by now.
- 56:53If the vehicle was built in the United States.
- 56:56So then it was okay.
- 56:58That limited the field to let's say the plants that exist in like Tennessee and
- 57:03the Carolinas and Kentucky and all that.
- 57:05That's how like Toyota and BMW and Volkswagen were getting away with, Oh,
- 57:09well you can still get the tax credit versus like, Oh, you buy a Chrysler.
- 57:11It's built in Detroit.
- 57:12Blah, blah, blah, blah.
- 57:13What they did is they changed the law so that it's now EVs with battery
- 57:19materials manufactured in China are not eligible for the tax credit.
- 57:24So we've taken that first window and now we've made it even narrower.
- 57:28And to your point, Tanya, it's the GM stuff, a couple of Fords.
- 57:32And the Tesla's.
- 57:33And so the list is getting smaller and smaller and smaller.
- 57:36But the price of the EVs hasn't come down, although they have fluctuated.
- 57:39A lot of the incentive to get people to buy them is now going away, or they're
- 57:43making it more difficult to buy these EVs by not giving you that government rebate.
- 57:49Which is funny because considering how the government was trying
- 57:51to push everybody to buy EVs.
- 57:53Just a short time ago.
- 57:55I still feel that it's going to come full circle at some point.
- 57:58We're all going to be driving diesels.
- 58:00Nah, hybrid isn't as bad.
- 58:00Diesel's dead, unfortunately, except in the big, bigger trucks.
- 58:04And again, Toyota has doubled down and created more hybrids.
- 58:08Exactly.
- 58:09You know, I hate to say it because I'm a ride or die.
- 58:12VAG fan, and it's losing its appeal.
- 58:15I'm disillusioned with them at this point.
- 58:17There's nothing that they sell that I'm really that interested in.
- 58:19But when I look at Toyota, to your point, they're the trendsetter.
- 58:22Now it used to be Volkswagen.
- 58:24It used to be a lot of other companies that were bucking the mold and saying, ah,
- 58:27we're going to rewrite the history books.
- 58:28This is how it's done.
- 58:29Now it's Toyota.
- 58:30And to your point, if you want the answers of what the future is,
- 58:34look to Toyota for those answers.
- 58:36If Toyota is not going full EV, they have like one car that's full
- 58:40EV, and they're going to make like.
- 58:41Three of them to your point, they were doubling down on hybrid.
- 58:45Hybrid is going to be the answer.
- 58:47All this other stuff is like a proof of concept.
- 58:50So buy your Rivians and buy your Teslas, do whatever you want to do.
- 58:52Live your best life.
- 58:53That's fine.
- 58:54Eventually, just like in the 1920s, we had all these boutique manufacturers
- 58:58out there, but where are they today?
- 59:00Where can you go buy a Studebaker or an Oldsmobile or a Packard, all these names,
- 59:05they're on the winds of history anymore.
- 59:07And I think you're going to see that with Rivian and Tesla, Lucid, and a
- 59:11lot of these other brands, as they get absorbed for their intellectual property
- 59:14and their patents by the bigger brands.
- 59:16And eventually a new big three will emerge that is concentrated
- 59:20in a alternative fuel space.
- 59:23Brad, you're a hundred percent right.
- 59:25Look to Toyota for those answers.
- 59:27today.
- 59:28We just talk about a car company that I am sad to not see anymore.
- 59:32Who's that?
- 59:33That's Mitsubishi.
- 59:34They still make HVAC and ductless air conditioning systems.
- 59:37They make the all wheel drive SUV, AUV, SAV, Eclipse.
- 59:44Is that their only car?
- 59:45I think.
- 59:45When did they disappear?
- 59:47I can't remember the last time I actually saw one Mitsubishi.
- 59:49I rented a Mitsubishi in Texas, like, two years ago.
- 59:52Why?
- 59:53It was the only thing available when I went to go kick something up off the lot.
- 59:56It was a Lancer Cross something or other, some goofy thing with a CVT, and it
- 1:00:02literally made 140 horsepower normally.
- 1:00:06like, you know, like a small tank.
- 1:00:07It was pathetic and it was horrible.
- 1:00:09And I was like, this Mitsubishi is why you have died in the United States.
- 1:00:14You cannot put stuff like this out.
- 1:00:16Now I get, Oh, we're not going to, you know, put a motor in it.
- 1:00:19That's like the Lancer evolution.
- 1:00:20But at this point, everybody's got freaking turbochargers on everything.
- 1:00:24You can't put out a 4, 000 pound CUV with a normally aspirated one, six,
- 1:00:30that makes less than 200 horsepower.
- 1:00:32That's insane.
- 1:00:33No, not in this country.
- 1:00:34Maybe the.
- 1:00:35put around like the little cities in Europe or something,
- 1:00:37but not here where you got to drive cross country or something.
- 1:00:40I was so tempted to go to the local Walgreens and get shoe polish, which
- 1:00:46I think you can still buy these days.
- 1:00:47And right on the back, the struggle is real because anytime you
- 1:00:51merged, you were better off getting out behind it and pushing it.
- 1:00:54I mean, it was just pathetic.
- 1:00:55Absolutely pathetic.
- 1:00:56And the build quality was just junk.
- 1:00:58I actually sat down and started writing an article about it.
- 1:01:01I just got frustrated doing that.
- 1:01:03And I was like, nobody's going to care.
- 1:01:04It's Mitsubishi.
- 1:01:05Where's the last dealership in America?
- 1:01:07Like, it's like the last blockbuster.
- 1:01:09There's going to be one in like Nome, Alaska, where you can still
- 1:01:13buy a Mitsubishi and that'll be it.
- 1:01:15You'll be able to buy Fiats and Mitsubishis next to each other.
- 1:01:17It's like junks are us.
- 1:01:19Guys, I want to remind you our sponsor, ESC carbon has put a significant
- 1:01:23price drop on their carbon wheels.
- 1:01:25You can now get the E2 for the low price of 1, 100 a wheel
- 1:01:30instead of the MSRP of 1, 724.
- 1:01:33So you're looking at made in the USA, all one piece carbon fiber wheels
- 1:01:37for a plethora of different cars, Audis, Volkswagens, Hondas, Subarus.
- 1:01:41And so on down the line, there's a fitment guide on the website, esecarbon.
- 1:01:44com.
- 1:01:45They are on sale, 1, 100 each, lots of really awesome stuff going on there.
- 1:01:49A new wheel is coming out and some other programs that they have going
- 1:01:52on with some major distributors for the foreign car market.
- 1:01:56So check out esecarbon.
- 1:01:58com for the latest on their wheels and new stuff that's coming.
- 1:02:02Well, it's time we talk about your favorite section, Brad.
- 1:02:05It's time for a little bit of Lost and Found.
- 1:02:08Lost and Found.
- 1:02:09Scour of the internet to tell you all what is available.
- 1:02:12Oh boy, what have we got?
- 1:02:14It's been a minute.
- 1:02:15I will say that 1988 Cadillac DeVille is gone!
- 1:02:18It's gone!
- 1:02:19No longer on the list.
- 1:02:20Somebody either bought it or turned it into cash for clunkers.
- 1:02:23Something happened, but it is no longer available.
- 1:02:26I'm still waiting for our sponsor check from gray Chevrolet.
- 1:02:29That's all I'm saying.
- 1:02:30We help sell.
- 1:02:30I know, I know, I know.
- 1:02:31You know, we give them a spot every month and we still have received nothing,
- 1:02:35the oldest vehicle you can buy on cars.
- 1:02:38com.
- 1:02:38Brand new.
- 1:02:39Again, this is because people don't know how to use the internet, but the brand new
- 1:02:44car is a 2000 Volkswagen Jetta GLS TDI.
- 1:02:48Oh, and then you get a 2001 Pathfinder that Ford GT is still
- 1:02:52out there, 2008 Shelby GT 500.
- 1:02:54You know what we haven't heard of in a while?
- 1:02:56HHRs, Dodge Darts, and Vipers.
- 1:02:59That hasn't shown up on the list in a while.
- 1:03:012014 Dodge SRT Viper GTS in lime green for the cool price of 249, 000.
- 1:03:08You know, I'm glad you brought that up because you know what I found
- 1:03:11that's going to start replacing Vipers as leftovers on the lot.
- 1:03:14That's going to be at your local Honda dealership when you go out.
- 1:03:17To put your deposit on your prelude.
- 1:03:19So what's taking the place of the Viper now?
- 1:03:21The NSX.
- 1:03:22The NSX went out of production a couple of years ago, right?
- 1:03:25How many did they sell last year?
- 1:03:26They sold five, but I'm not surprised.
- 1:03:30It's a low production supercar.
- 1:03:32How many Vipers did they sell in a given year?
- 1:03:34What?
- 1:03:3512, 13, something like that.
- 1:03:36It's the nature of the beast.
- 1:03:38They're priced accordingly.
- 1:03:39They don't need to sell very many of them.
- 1:03:41They're super fucking expensive to begin with 350, 000.
- 1:03:44Not surprised that they only sold.
- 1:03:46Five.
- 1:03:46You mentioned brands that you don't hear about anymore.
- 1:03:49This one is right up your alley.
- 1:03:51Pontiac.
- 1:03:51Yeah.
- 1:03:52What about Pontiac?
- 1:03:53Apparently you can buy a nice Pontiac vibe.
- 1:03:5725.
- 1:04:01No.
- 1:04:0125, 000 the SEMA car looks like it's lower to some suspension,
- 1:04:07just a mini sub box in the back.
- 1:04:09Okay.
- 1:04:09What is so special about this car?
- 1:04:11It's orange.
- 1:04:12That's what's special about it.
- 1:04:13Yes.
- 1:04:14And it's not a manual.
- 1:04:15I think there was a certain percentage of these that were manual.
- 1:04:17And what people forget about the vibe is it's the Toyota matrix.
- 1:04:21It's the same car rebadged.
- 1:04:23It was a deal that Toyota had going on with GM.
- 1:04:25I don't know if people forget that they choose not to remember.
- 1:04:28Oh yeah.
- 1:04:29That's how it works.
- 1:04:30Okay.
- 1:04:31Choose not to remember that.
- 1:04:32It's clean.
- 1:04:33The only problem is it's an auto tragic.
- 1:04:35To your point, I don't know that I'd spend 25 bucks on this, but okay, sure.
- 1:04:39When was the last time you saw a Pontiac vibe?
- 1:04:41There's a reason for that.
- 1:04:44There's a reason like Mark 4, Mark 5 Volkswagens are still running
- 1:04:47around, but Pontiac vibes are not.
- 1:04:49Not so much.
- 1:04:50I didn't like its vibes.
- 1:04:51Speaking of cars that are still running around, couldn't
- 1:04:53believe this when I read it.
- 1:04:54Honda will lease you a 10 year old car because the new ones are too expensive.
- 1:04:58What?
- 1:04:59So 10 year old cars are not available for leasing, but five year old cars,
- 1:05:04CPO, are available for leasing.
- 1:05:05It says here, while Honda TrueUse launched in 2022, it does include pre
- 1:05:10owned vehicles up to 10 years old.
- 1:05:12They are not available for leasing.
- 1:05:14Reading, comprehension.
- 1:05:16But that's written terribly.
- 1:05:18Okay, so you can lease a 5 or 10 year old Honda Accord.
- 1:05:22Why?
- 1:05:22So here's what I'm thinking to myself.
- 1:05:24If the new cars are so expensive, why don't we just lower the price?
- 1:05:28Am I totally, like, off my rocker here?
- 1:05:30Am I speaking alien language?
- 1:05:33Hello.
- 1:05:34And they have this funky like warranty policy where it's like, where they're
- 1:05:37finding these low mileage Hondas.
- 1:05:38I don't know.
- 1:05:39They've gotta be CPO cars.
- 1:05:40Yeah.
- 1:05:41CP program and 86,000 miles of non powertrain coverage, or 84 months and a
- 1:05:46hundred thousand miles per powertrain.
- 1:05:48And I'm like, what?
- 1:05:49No, just lower the freaking price of the new one because what kind of
- 1:05:53price tag are you putting on this?
- 1:05:55Accurate TSX or whatever it is you're trying to sell me.
- 1:05:58Let's say that's 30, 000 if you multiply out the lease, you know, and all the,
- 1:06:02all the stuff that goes along with that.
- 1:06:04Why can't I buy a new Accord for 30 grand?
- 1:06:06Why does a new Accord have to be 50, 000?
- 1:06:08It doesn't make any sense.
- 1:06:10So I will say I did go to a Toyota dealership once many years ago, back in,
- 1:06:15it was the mid 2000s, early to mid 2000s.
- 1:06:17The reason I went to the dealership is because they had a used Toyota
- 1:06:20Supra on the lot, like a 96, 97 Supra.
- 1:06:23They wanted to lease a used Toyota Supra because they were trying to
- 1:06:27sell it for 45, 000 or 50, 000 or whatever, because it was in the height
- 1:06:31of the whole fast and furious craze.
- 1:06:34And they were trying to lease me this car.
- 1:06:35And he said, Oh yeah, you can't buy it.
- 1:06:37We can lease it to you.
- 1:06:38No, thank you.
- 1:06:39I don't think so.
- 1:06:40I'm not going to lease any car, let alone a tuner car, but still leasing a used car.
- 1:06:45I agree with your point.
- 1:06:46Why not just make the cars cheaper?
- 1:06:48I guess they're doing this because of the crazy auto market.
- 1:06:51The crazy auto loan rates right now.
- 1:06:53People are priced out of vehicles that they normally would have been able to buy.
- 1:06:56You remember when we had a take it to the bank moment?
- 1:06:59It's that would Andrew buy this car?
- 1:07:01This next one is a hundred percent a take it to the bank moment.
- 1:07:05Dude, I totally would have bought this car.
- 1:07:06Oh, come on.
- 1:07:07Why not?
- 1:07:08Headline reads, Someone willingly paid 16, 000 for a Maserati
- 1:07:12Ghibli on Cars and Bids.
- 1:07:14What's wrong with the Ghibli?
- 1:07:15For 16, 000?
- 1:07:16What is wrong with the Ghibli?
- 1:07:18That's what I'm asking, what's wrong with the Ghibli?
- 1:07:19It needs 66, 000 worth of maintenance.
- 1:07:22That's what it needs.
- 1:07:23Oh yeah, I see.
- 1:07:24400 oil changes, 1, 200 brake jobs.
- 1:07:26But if you can do this stuff yourself You're gonna order parts
- 1:07:29for your Ghibli on Rock Auto?
- 1:07:30Did you see those door panels?
- 1:07:32This car looks like it was in a flood.
- 1:07:34And Andrew bought a flood Mercedes.
- 1:07:36And it wasn't Piece of junk.
- 1:07:38He lost money on that car.
- 1:07:39What is wrong with these door cards?
- 1:07:41It says here 3, 500 to repair the door cards at an upholstery shop because
- 1:07:46you're paying the Maserati tax on everything you touch on this car.
- 1:07:50What you do is you go to the junkyard, you find a Dodge Charger.
- 1:07:54Which is the same car, and then you take the door cards out of the Dodge
- 1:07:58Charger and put them in your Ghibli.
- 1:08:00And I would buy a Chrysler 300 and be done with this because they're all aliezoic
- 1:08:04era Mercedes at the end of the day.
- 1:08:05I don't know.
- 1:08:06This is junk, man.
- 1:08:07I wouldn't go near this with somebody else's 16, 000.
- 1:08:11I'm sorry, Andrew would buy this car though.
- 1:08:13So let's call him up, see if he'll go get this thing and we can all
- 1:08:16go hoon around in a Maserati.
- 1:08:18He already bought a car.
- 1:08:19Got that Viper.
- 1:08:19It's just as bad.
- 1:08:20No, he's, he's got the, the Lexus.
- 1:08:22He got a Lexus?
- 1:08:23Was it the RC Coupe?
- 1:08:25Was it in a fire, a flood?
- 1:08:27Did it have locusts?
- 1:08:28What other of the seven plagues did it suffer?
- 1:08:31Well, it's got Andrew ownership, the eighth plague.
- 1:08:33Yeah.
- 1:08:34Yeah.
- 1:08:34So he's going to take it to the track and something's going to break on it.
- 1:08:37Yeah.
- 1:08:37And then he's going to flip it for more money than he bought
- 1:08:39because he's got the touch.
- 1:08:40Brilliant.
- 1:08:41Unfortunately, now it's time that we return to our conversation about
- 1:08:44Tesla because we would be remiss if we didn't talk about Elon.
- 1:08:47Oh yes.
- 1:08:49That's exactly who I want to talk about.
- 1:08:51Who cares about this guy and who cares about his boring company?
- 1:08:54How boring.
- 1:08:55Like this is still a thing you and your freaking like we're going to tunnel under
- 1:09:00everything and then we're going to have.
- 1:09:02Tesla robo taxis in Vegas.
- 1:09:05And, oh yeah, it's like two blocks and it's people driving
- 1:09:09the Teslas in the tunnels.
- 1:09:11Autonomous self driving level zero.
- 1:09:14That's when you dropped the car.
- 1:09:15Yeah.
- 1:09:16Why don't you just leave the keys in it?
- 1:09:17Let me drive through the tunnel.
- 1:09:18I like how people say this was a good idea.
- 1:09:21They wanted it to work.
- 1:09:23They should have made the tunnel so you could drive completely like in a loop.
- 1:09:26So you just drive up on the wall and go around the loop.
- 1:09:29Like a loop, a loop.
- 1:09:30That's what he's calling the Hyperloop.
- 1:09:33It's like a rollercoaster.
- 1:09:34I get it.
- 1:09:35The Tesla Hyperloop.
- 1:09:37It's a ride at Six Flags.
- 1:09:38It all makes sense now.
- 1:09:40I don't even think the Teslas are fast enough to overcome.
- 1:09:43The forces needed to make it through the loop to loop the cyber truck can do it.
- 1:09:47, I don't know, zero to 40 miles an hour.
- 1:09:50They got it.
- 1:09:50It's just a shame they weigh 20,000 pounds.
- 1:09:53The thing about the boring company, that's hilarious and I can't
- 1:09:56believe to Tonya's point that this made news again seven years.
- 1:10:00We've been kicking this coffee can down the road.
- 1:10:02And how far have they made it, Tanya?
- 1:10:04A total of what?
- 1:10:05Apparently 2.
- 1:10:074 miles.
- 1:10:07I mean, that's money well spent.
- 1:10:11It didn't take seven years to build a 2.
- 1:10:134 miles.
- 1:10:14So how much is being spent to go nowhere?
- 1:10:16I mean, I guess you need to spend it.
- 1:10:19And I think the subtitle sort of sums up a lot of these projects, right?
- 1:10:23They're pet projects for a multi billionaire who's
- 1:10:25just like, I got an idea.
- 1:10:26Let me fart out, you know, a hundred million dollars and you
- 1:10:29can go do this thing for me.
- 1:10:30It says the boring company is years behind schedule and employees.
- 1:10:35say it's because musk had a good idea but failed to execute well it also talks
- 1:10:39about that like there's huge turnover because all the engineers just leave
- 1:10:42because the engineers are grounded in reality and he's not it sounds like and
- 1:10:47so if you're telling somebody this doesn't work for xyz or you know you need to
- 1:10:51do this abc blah blah blah and it costs this much he's like no after a while
- 1:10:55you're gonna be like deuces i have better things to go do isn't that the origin
- 1:10:59story of lucid But we haven't heard of the boring company equivalent boring 2.
- 1:11:050 or not boring company.
- 1:11:07That's actually doing something.
- 1:11:09Oh, wait, it's every other person's already built a tunnel
- 1:11:12and a subway underground.
- 1:11:14Everybody keeps asking me about BYD.
- 1:11:17What about their presence in America?
- 1:11:19Is that going to happen?
- 1:11:21You know, I haven't seen too much on that lately.
- 1:11:23They are a force to be reckoned with.
- 1:11:25They have more global EV share than Tesla does right now, so keep an eye on them.
- 1:11:30BYD in America I think is a whole other political issue that remains to be seen.
- 1:11:35In terms of the rest of the world, obviously they got more latitude.
- 1:11:38But I think one of the telltale signs is this next one.
- 1:11:41All these rental car companies that started taking huge orders for EVs,
- 1:11:47specifically Teslas, because they were going to turn over their fleets of
- 1:11:49gas and diesel vehicles to electric.
- 1:11:53Sixt, S I X T, which is a very large rental company
- 1:11:57in Europe, a German company.
- 1:11:59They, like Hertz here in America, had taken huge orders for Teslas,
- 1:12:03and now are selling them all off.
- 1:12:06Because apparently the repair costs are way too much to be sustainable.
- 1:12:10And not that they're abandoning their quest to have 90 percent of
- 1:12:15their rental fleet BEVs, they're just abandoning Tesla for, to your point,
- 1:12:20BYD, the Chinese automaker, who's apparently not only more affordable
- 1:12:25just to buy the car, but also their repair costs are much more affordable.
- 1:12:30Because they look like normal cars.
- 1:12:33They're probably mass produced like normal cars.
- 1:12:36Good for Sixt.
- 1:12:37And Hertz is also selling off.
- 1:12:39The Tesla fleet that they had purchased, presumably for similar reasons.
- 1:12:43I guess all those Tom Brady advertisements didn't work for him.
- 1:12:46Yeah.
- 1:12:47Right.
- 1:12:48Let's go.
- 1:12:49I want to interview the guy that thought that was a good idea.
- 1:12:53I want to pick that person's brain and be like.
- 1:12:55Here you are a year later, two years later, have a long spin.
- 1:12:58Cause we're still in this sort of like COVID time warp.
- 1:13:01You thought this was a good idea?
- 1:13:03Go big or go home.
- 1:13:04Sometimes you gotta swing for the fences to make a home run.
- 1:13:07Takes money to make money.
- 1:13:08You miss a hundred percent of the shots you don't take.
- 1:13:10So he was shooting from three courts away.
- 1:13:13Was the 7, 500 tax credit only for individuals or were companies?
- 1:13:20Like Hertz who were buying these cars eligible for that
- 1:13:23on a per car basis as well.
- 1:13:25I don't remember.
- 1:13:26I thought that was for personal cars.
- 1:13:29I'm wondering if they, as well as Sixt out there in Germany, I wonder if these people
- 1:13:34were expecting Some sort of government funding or kickback or something, and
- 1:13:39it either never came or the juice wasn't worth the squeeze or something like that.
- 1:13:45My cynical mind is trying to figure out if there were some underlying reasons
- 1:13:49as to why they were buying these cars.
- 1:13:52Well, we have to dig into that a little bit further, but I do have a
- 1:13:54question for Tanya, Chevy Impala or Tesla model three is a rental car.
- 1:14:00Oh man.
- 1:14:02That's hard.
- 1:14:04I might just not go on the trip.
- 1:14:06Uber, Uber.
- 1:14:08Uber is the answer.
- 1:14:09What if your Uber is driving a Tesla?
- 1:14:12You know, Hey, I have been in a Model S Uber before.
- 1:14:15More than likely your Uber is driving a Nissan Maxima
- 1:14:18or they're driving an Ultima.
- 1:14:19Yeah.
- 1:14:20Well, going back to our showcase, Brad Tesla, Cybertruck,
- 1:14:23or sweet frog franchise.
- 1:14:26It depends on where you put the sweet frog, because they, they
- 1:14:30do not succeed in all places.
- 1:14:34Just like the Tesla does not succeed in the North.
- 1:14:36Talking about not succeeding.
- 1:14:38This next one had me rubbing my temples.
- 1:14:40This one's a little bit of clickbait 1.
- 1:14:422 million mile Tesla with 13 motor replacements and three
- 1:14:46battery pack replacements.
- 1:14:47And it's like, this was one of the early initial model S's that were built.
- 1:14:52That apparently were also known to have somewhat defective, let's say, parts.
- 1:14:56And if you dig into it, most of the stuff was fixed under warranty.
- 1:15:01And like the final battery that got put in or the last battery that got replaced
- 1:15:05went like 900, 000 miles if eventually they got it right through the years.
- 1:15:10Then it's like, is this really that big of a deal?
- 1:15:12I don't know, like, what's really the truth and where the parts are breaking?
- 1:15:15Like, this guy is an outlier.
- 1:15:17I don't think there's enough Teslas on the road with people driving 100,
- 1:15:20000 miles to understand, are these rear motors breaking still this
- 1:15:25consistently, or in this low mileage?
- 1:15:28I'm kind of like, meh about this.
- 1:15:30One of your first cars that was a piece of garbage anyway, had garbage
- 1:15:33parts in it, and then somewhere along the line, you put less garbage
- 1:15:36parts in, and it works better.
- 1:15:38Like, okay, yes, growing pains.
- 1:15:40I don't see too many Model S's on the road anymore, do you guys?
- 1:15:43Every once in a while.
- 1:15:44I see more Lucid Airs than I do Model S's now.
- 1:15:46You know what?
- 1:15:47Honestly, they all frickin look the same a lot, but I can't tell
- 1:15:50what the hell it is, and I don't even look at it, so I'm not sure.
- 1:15:53I think every once in a while, yes.
- 1:15:54I think the Model Y is the best selling Tesla right now or something like that.
- 1:15:58And I do see a ton of those kind of everywhere I go.
- 1:16:01But even the Model 3s is probably the next most popular.
- 1:16:04But Model Ss, when I read this article, I was like, Do they
- 1:16:06even make that car anymore?
- 1:16:08Because it has been about like 10 years since it came out.
- 1:16:10And I'm just like, I haven't seen one in a long time.
- 1:16:14I still do.
- 1:16:14Part I have not seen is the Model X.
- 1:16:17I can't remember the last time I saw a Model X.
- 1:16:19Did they stop production of that finally?
- 1:16:21They didn't, those are really kind of hard to tell between the Model
- 1:16:25Y and the X though, when you see them on the road, like if you're
- 1:16:28not really paying attention, like if you're just like glancing and seeing
- 1:16:32stuff, they all look so similar.
- 1:16:34Like we said earlier, the new Model 3 is coming with a facelift.
- 1:16:38It's a little more angular.
- 1:16:40Is it?
- 1:16:40I'm like, I fricking looked at it.
- 1:16:41I'm like, I don't pay enough attention to any of these cars to tell the difference.
- 1:16:46I'm like, does it look different?
- 1:16:48It still has that.
- 1:16:49Smashed Botox front face.
- 1:16:51It's a little less platypus than the original one.
- 1:16:54Maybe, I don't know.
- 1:16:56Before we move on, I will say about this article, this 1.
- 1:16:592 million mile Tesla, Toyota called, they said, been there,
- 1:17:02done that with general maintenance.
- 1:17:04Yeah.
- 1:17:04And Volvo said the same thing too.
- 1:17:06It's like, come on, man.
- 1:17:07Take your 13 motors and your three batteries.
- 1:17:10You could have bought this car probably 10 times over.
- 1:17:13What I was disappointed in.
- 1:17:15Well, and I guess if it was under warranty, then it.
- 1:17:17Didn't necessarily cost that guy much, but I'm like, how much did this Tesla
- 1:17:21cost you right over the last 10 years or whatever, 14 motors later, if you
- 1:17:26didn't have warranty or some sort of extended warranty plan, but even how
- 1:17:30much did they pay out to have this done?
- 1:17:31How much downtime did this guy incur?
- 1:17:34So let's say this is his only vehicle.
- 1:17:36It's not like a hop, skip and a jump to change these parts.
- 1:17:39So what was he driving while his Tesla was out of service?
- 1:17:42Probably driving his Volkswagen Polo.
- 1:17:49Well, this next one is just another didoey whistleblower says autopilot is not
- 1:17:54safe enough to be used on public roads.
- 1:17:56It's like, okay, I don't need to read the rest of this.
- 1:17:58I don't care.
- 1:17:59We're just trying to get you spun up.
- 1:18:00That's all it is.
- 1:18:01We're trying to get a rise out of you, Tanya.
- 1:18:03Get on your soapbox.
- 1:18:05I'm getting desensitized.
- 1:18:06We need something else.
- 1:18:08How do we get Tanya excited?
- 1:18:09You know, this next one would have me excited.
- 1:18:11We talked about the cyber truck and how the stainless steel bird poop
- 1:18:15and hair and maintenance of all that stuff and barkeeper's friend and all
- 1:18:18that Tesla is making this move now.
- 1:18:21And I think it's a cost saving maneuver because painting a
- 1:18:25car is actually very expensive.
- 1:18:26People are just paint the car and, you know, clear coat it.
- 1:18:29So paint shops can cost multiples of millions of dollars to do that.
- 1:18:33And now they're talking about wrapping their car.
- 1:18:36I mean, from the factory, so you can pick a rap, you know, whatever style
- 1:18:39you want, all this kind of thing.
- 1:18:41And reports are coming in that the rap quality might be as bad as the paint.
- 1:18:46This costs 8, 000 and that's cheaper than a paint job because if you
- 1:18:51went to somebody third party and had it painted, I'd think you could
- 1:18:55paint your car for that under that.
- 1:18:56But that's what the team of folks and you got to count the
- 1:18:59labor hours and the prep time.
- 1:19:00So on your fricking assembly line, it should be more cost effective.
- 1:19:05It's cheaper to wrap because the one robot can do the whole car in one shot.
- 1:19:08They prime it, wrap it, it's out.
- 1:19:10If you have to do multi stage painting and then the time it takes
- 1:19:14to cure the paint, clear the paint, buff the paint, finish the paint.
- 1:19:18Man, nowadays they turn around a paint job in like a.
- 1:19:22And they're terrible.
- 1:19:23If only there was a car manufacturing process that really zeroed in and
- 1:19:29just had this process down of making cars mass produced and painting them
- 1:19:35and getting them through assembly and to the market really quickly.
- 1:19:39Has anybody been able to do that yet?
- 1:19:41Not in a hundred years, my friend.
- 1:19:42Here you go.
- 1:19:43And this article even says you could go to a local body shop who
- 1:19:46could wrap a compact crossover car for size comparison for 3, 500.
- 1:19:51So what are they charging you for eight grand?
- 1:19:53That seems really expensive for what you're getting.
- 1:19:56Cyber wrapped.
- 1:19:56I'm sorry.
- 1:19:57Like I'm pretty sure the assembly line paint job would be cheaper.
- 1:20:01But think about it.
- 1:20:01You can get your cyber truck wrapped.
- 1:20:03In a stainless steel wrap, then you don't get the fingerprints on
- 1:20:07it, but it still looks the same.
- 1:20:08Yeah.
- 1:20:09And then apparently people are complaining that there's bubbles
- 1:20:12and like missing pieces to the wrap.
- 1:20:14So the robots need to be Lego robots that can go to 0.
- 1:20:210000001 micron tolerance when they layer the wrap on your car.
- 1:20:24But think about it this way.
- 1:20:25If you wrap the cyber truck, it solves the panel gap problem because
- 1:20:30you wrap right up for the gaps.
- 1:20:32And now they're sealed!
- 1:20:33And it looks like one smooth panel.
- 1:20:34He has solved the problem!
- 1:20:36And then when you open the door, the whole wrap rips apart.
- 1:20:39It looks like the wraps are ripping apart anyway.
- 1:20:41Well, yeah.
- 1:20:43No, no, no.
- 1:20:44It's a distressed look.
- 1:20:46Oh, it's distressed.
- 1:20:47It's patina.
- 1:20:49It's all the rage now.
- 1:20:51It's antiquing.
- 1:20:52I'm going to save my 8, 000.
- 1:20:54I'm going to go to Mako and I'm going to get the 350 on sale holiday paint job.
- 1:21:01What a mess.
- 1:21:02I'm not suggesting you go that cheap on your paint job, but there's something
- 1:21:07in between 350, 000 and 8, 000.
- 1:21:09What are we up to next?
- 1:21:10Yeah.
- 1:21:10Tesla raps about his paint jobs.
- 1:21:13He started his own price war with himself and he can't win it.
- 1:21:16This is the freaking hokey pokey that Tesla's been doing.
- 1:21:20You know, again, let's raise the price 200 percent and then
- 1:21:23we'll give you 50 percent off.
- 1:21:24It's like all this back and forth.
- 1:21:25I still don't know how much a Tesla three actually costs.
- 1:21:29Going back to our point about the Cybertruck, is it 50 grand?
- 1:21:32Is it price adjusted for inflation?
- 1:21:34Because it's been 10 years since they talked about it.
- 1:21:36And you know that when Brad bought his Cybertruck allotment,
- 1:21:39what is the price of these cars?
- 1:21:41And so.
- 1:21:42And to your point, Brad, even about the stock valuation, how can any of the, the
- 1:21:47investors keep track of this stuff too?
- 1:21:49If one minute we're selling a car for 35 grand and then we're selling
- 1:21:52it for 65 grand and then tomorrow it's 12, it's all over the map.
- 1:21:56They need to get this figured out.
- 1:21:57So they lowered the price to hit vehicle deliveries.
- 1:22:00But then they met expectations on the revenue side, but they also
- 1:22:04still didn't make deliveries.
- 1:22:05What the fuck are they doing?
- 1:22:07This screams of Ponzi scheme.
- 1:22:09This is like a Bernie Madoff special here.
- 1:22:12All right.
- 1:22:12That's how I feel about all those tech companies out there in Silicon Valley.
- 1:22:16It's all inflated bullshit.
- 1:22:18And I've said it before.
- 1:22:19Tesla is a software company, not a car company.
- 1:22:21They operate like a software company and it's a mess.
- 1:22:24For sure.
- 1:22:24But now they're going to get into the food business.
- 1:22:27Next thing you know, there'll be the Tesla show on the food network.
- 1:22:30Have you heard of this drive through restaurant thing
- 1:22:33that you don't drive through?
- 1:22:35First I said, how stupid?
- 1:22:36And then I said, well, while you're sitting there for 45 minutes, charging
- 1:22:40your Tesla or however long it takes, I mean, yeah, you go get a bite to eat.
- 1:22:44And then there's like a movie theater too, or something.
- 1:22:46So there you go.
- 1:22:48Make it an event.
- 1:22:49It's a whole experience just to recharge your car.
- 1:22:52We're taking all these old ideas and repurposing them as brand new innovations.
- 1:22:57You hit the nail on the head.
- 1:22:58It is like a Howard Johnson's the same idea was a place to go to stop.
- 1:23:03And I'm like, Oh my God.
- 1:23:05But I'm wondering if we're talking about the build quality,
- 1:23:08what's the food quality?
- 1:23:09Could it be like, it's not the Alto grill in Italy, right?
- 1:23:14It's crusty.
- 1:23:14He's crusty.
- 1:23:18My question is, if you don't have a Tesla, can you still eat there?
- 1:23:22Will there be parking in a gas pump for my tundra?
- 1:23:26If it's anything like what we heard about here in the last
- 1:23:29couple of weeks, about those.
- 1:23:30Tesla's getting frozen at the charging stations and all that kind of stuff.
- 1:23:34There's going to be gridlock.
- 1:23:35What are they going to do?
- 1:23:36Build a Bucky's where there's like 200 spots so that everybody can charge.
- 1:23:40There's going to be a line around the block.
- 1:23:41They're proposing this one in Hollywood.
- 1:23:43Are you kidding me with all the Tesla's that there are in Los Angeles?
- 1:23:47It's going to be successful, but it's also going to be super inefficient.
- 1:23:50It's sort of like when you go to a theme park and there's only one rollercoaster
- 1:23:54train running when there should be four.
- 1:23:57They're probably going to sell like all organic, vegan, animal free foods
- 1:24:02for the fruit food people in Hollywood.
- 1:24:03They're going to sell electrons.
- 1:24:05See, there'll be this like asterix in it.
- 1:24:07It's fine print.
- 1:24:07It's really not.
- 1:24:08It's food for humans.
- 1:24:09It's food for your Tesla.
- 1:24:10I would love to have a scoop of ice cream right now, but instead I think we're going
- 1:24:14to get the inside scoop on the Tesla Semi.
- 1:24:17Oh wait, there's more Tesla news.
- 1:24:19Apparently it's a hot mess.
- 1:24:20You're kidding me, right?
- 1:24:23I mean, I've never, I haven't seen one on the road.
- 1:24:25at all.
- 1:24:26I mean, not that I guess I would expect to, because I'd imagine so few.
- 1:24:29Didn't Pepsi buy them or something like that?
- 1:24:31Yes, PepsiCo, I think, was one of the first.
- 1:24:33Is it PepsiCo, Frito Lay?
- 1:24:34Are they the same or are they different?
- 1:24:36I think they're the same.
- 1:24:36Both of them, I think, took early orders and apparently some PepsiCo
- 1:24:40employee that must have been driving one has described it as a disaster.
- 1:24:44That does 400 miles at best with around the clock servicing by Tesla engineers.
- 1:24:49Wow.
- 1:24:50That sounds like a cost effective approach.
- 1:24:52It's going to save the world, remember?
- 1:24:54The Tesla Semi is going to revolutionize the trucking industry.
- 1:24:58In their defense.
- 1:25:00You gotta start somewhere.
- 1:25:02Somebody's gotta break the mold.
- 1:25:03Yes, I agree with that.
- 1:25:04But my bigger question is, how many of the trucks Did Pepsi return?
- 1:25:08I don't know.
- 1:25:09So they're back to gas guzzling diesels.
- 1:25:11I know we had Carrie Weisher on the show a while back and she's
- 1:25:15from the trucking industry.
- 1:25:16And she's sort of alluded to some changes that are happening amongst the big
- 1:25:19companies, you know, like Freightliner and Mac and all those, again, this is where I
- 1:25:23make the argument to be able to move the weight that we move in America, because
- 1:25:26we don't use trains in the same way we did, let's say a hundred years ago, you
- 1:25:30know, to move stuff around the country.
- 1:25:31Although we still use trains.
- 1:25:33I don't know why trucks didn't adopt diesel electric hybrids.
- 1:25:3750 years ago, the technology was already there and we've said many times before
- 1:25:41we're doing all this carbon offset stuff that we're doing the middle class
- 1:25:46average person with their Honda Civic and whatever is paying the price for
- 1:25:50these semi trucks and school buses and Metro buses that are belching black smoke
- 1:25:55out every time they go down the road.
- 1:25:57And it's sort of like.
- 1:25:59Why can't we speed up the process of getting new hybrid technology,
- 1:26:04not EVs, into these trucks?
- 1:26:07Oh my gosh.
- 1:26:08Tesla isn't using special grade truck parts for the Tesla Semi, i.
- 1:26:12e.
- 1:26:12weight and energy grade, heavy duty parts.
- 1:26:14Tesla is using car parts on the Semi, which is why it breaks down so often.
- 1:26:20That can't be true.
- 1:26:21Tesla's using Home Depot parts.
- 1:26:25You're right.
- 1:26:25This is the thing that really gets me.
- 1:26:27PepsiCo did a 500 mile trip with the Tesla Semi from California to
- 1:26:32Phoenix, but it was just for PR.
- 1:26:34The batteries completely burned out, which is why on these PR trips, they bring
- 1:26:39three Tesla Semis, with two of them being towed by diesel Semi trucks, and then
- 1:26:45they swap them out when the battery dies.
- 1:26:48Oh my god.
- 1:26:49It's like the Formula E, where the pit stop is they swap out the car,
- 1:26:53Pepsi's swapping out the trucks.
- 1:26:54That's really good for their logistics.
- 1:26:56Maybe that's the plan.
- 1:26:57You just have a bunch of the cabs, like, at certain checkpoints along the
- 1:27:01highway, and then you pull up to one, you drop the load, the other freshly
- 1:27:06non burned up battery cab pulls it in.
- 1:27:09Grabs the load and then keeps going until the next one.
- 1:27:12It's like a relay race.
- 1:27:13Yeah.
- 1:27:14Pass the baton.
- 1:27:15Then they're using pouch battery cells made in Nevada, which
- 1:27:19get damaged in heavy rains.
- 1:27:21Here is the best.
- 1:27:22None of the Tesla semi drivers care about the fact that the semi can accelerate
- 1:27:26to 60 miles an hour in 20 seconds.
- 1:27:29God damn.
- 1:27:31Yeah, because I want my like 20 ton of cumming thing to accelerate.
- 1:27:35in 20 seconds at 60 miles an hour and how quickly is it stopping?
- 1:27:39People commenting on the Tesla Isemi said it might help in passing other trucks,
- 1:27:42but PepsiCo's employees said nobody cared.
- 1:27:45Tesla uses the tri motor system from the Model S X Flad on one axle of the Semi,
- 1:27:50which seems both dangerous and needless.
- 1:27:52Given the lack of concern among semi users for a quick acceleration.
- 1:27:55Wow.
- 1:27:56What's funny is when the Tesla was first introduced in 2017, they
- 1:28:00touted zero to 60 in five seconds, first 20 seconds for a diesel semi.
- 1:28:06So now the actual drivers are saying it's going zero to 60 in 20 seconds.
- 1:28:10I wonder if that's empty or loaded.
- 1:28:12It's towing on 9 11.
- 1:28:15That right there, you built a semi truck capable of a zero to 60 in 20 seconds.
- 1:28:21Why?
- 1:28:22You're not grounded in reality.
- 1:28:23It does not need to go zero to 60 in 20 seconds.
- 1:28:27No, it needs to be safe and it needs to be able to walk and it needs to be durable.
- 1:28:31Their use case, exactly.
- 1:28:32It's like, I need to go distance.
- 1:28:34I need longevity.
- 1:28:36I also need safety.
- 1:28:37I need to hopefully be able to stop when you have a huge payload
- 1:28:42of tens of thousands of pounds.
- 1:28:44Whatever.
- 1:28:45There's also a bunch of talk right now too about these new sodium batteries.
- 1:28:48There's some stuff coming from Panasonic.
- 1:28:50There's some alternatives to this.
- 1:28:52Some people are saying that we don't need the sodium batteries,
- 1:28:54we don't need these other techno.
- 1:28:56There's a lot of shaking of the tree right now, and even though
- 1:28:58Tesla's been at the front of this battery technology for a while, and
- 1:29:01I still think the the long term game.
- 1:29:04The long con here has been to sell everybody their battery technology in
- 1:29:08the same way that Toyota has licensed their hybrid technology to most of
- 1:29:12the automotive industry at this point.
- 1:29:13But I don't see it coming if we're revolutionizing the battery technology.
- 1:29:17Still, I don't think lithium ion is the answer.
- 1:29:19We've talked about that before, and this just proves the point and the bigger the
- 1:29:23object gets, whether it's the cyber truck.
- 1:29:26Or the semi, we're not getting the range out of them that we're looking for.
- 1:29:30And this isn't a range anxiety thing.
- 1:29:32This isn't an infrastructure thing.
- 1:29:34Like we were arguing about, you know, three years ago, this is the
- 1:29:37efficacy of these vehicles at a point of stupidity, where it's just
- 1:29:41like, stick with what you've got.
- 1:29:43And this is why you haven't seen one yet.
- 1:29:46Yeah, they haven't made it yet.
- 1:29:47Well, now that you all have.
- 1:29:49Thoroughly lowered my expectations.
- 1:29:51Lowered expectations.
- 1:29:53Talk about something a little more fun.
- 1:29:57What did you guys, did you guys get anything good for Christmas?
- 1:29:59I got a leaf blower.
- 1:30:00A gasoline leaf blower.
- 1:30:02I got a Mercedes Lego set.
- 1:30:05Yeah.
- 1:30:06Well, you know, in our holiday shopping guide, we talked a lot about some
- 1:30:10really cool gifts that you could get.
- 1:30:11I mean, we talked about the crazy stuff, model cars and Legos and
- 1:30:14watches and clothing and shoes and books and you name it, right?
- 1:30:18Well, there was a list that came out that was sort of the antithesis
- 1:30:21of our holiday shopping guide.
- 1:30:23The worst gifts you could have received this Christmas.
- 1:30:27Did you guys take a look at this list?
- 1:30:28Some of these are.
- 1:30:29Pretty funny.
- 1:30:30Dodge Charger Shelby.
- 1:30:32Yeah, because I want a Chevy belt buckle.
- 1:30:34You know what?
- 1:30:35Those giant carbos are really expensive.
- 1:30:39Hundreds of dollars.
- 1:30:41That ain't no joke if you actually got somebody one of those.
- 1:30:43There was an event one time and we had cars on site and they were
- 1:30:47Promotional lottery, you know, whatever cars people were gonna put in
- 1:30:52sweepstakes or whatever to get them.
- 1:30:53They were making a donation that they would not get refunded.
- 1:30:55Yeah, I got you.
- 1:30:56Yes, but like the dealers they brought the bows to put on the car and they
- 1:31:00were like do not mess these bows up Like it was like a whole thing.
- 1:31:05They're like hundreds of dollars just for the one bow.
- 1:31:08They ain't cheap I love the useless multi function system.
- 1:31:12I actually got my dad one for his truck a couple years ago The wrong polish knob.
- 1:31:17I like this one, right?
- 1:31:19Because did you read the sub caption for this?
- 1:31:21And it says, a Mugen 5 speed shift knob.
- 1:31:24My car has a 6 speed and is German.
- 1:31:28And I was like, that's awesome.
- 1:31:30I love the ram.
- 1:31:32T shirt that was clearly bought at Walmart and the dream cars calendar, like who
- 1:31:37gives people paper calendars anymore?
- 1:31:38You know, I get my free one from SCCA every year.
- 1:31:41Don't buy me a calendar, but I think my favorite is that last
- 1:31:44one where it's GM parking only.
- 1:31:47And it's a picture of a Mustang.
- 1:31:51Obviously they couldn't tell the difference between
- 1:31:53the Mustang and the Camaro.
- 1:31:54And we've talked about that before.
- 1:31:56I think that's a gag gift.
- 1:31:58Speaking of gags.
- 1:32:00Tonya, you brought this next one to my attention.
- 1:32:02Oh yeah.
- 1:32:03Did you watch the clip?
- 1:32:04You were silent on it.
- 1:32:05I'm like, wow, I stuck this out into the world and like nobody commented on it.
- 1:32:09I was like, let me crawl back under my hole here.
- 1:32:12I saved it specifically.
- 1:32:15For this moment.
- 1:32:16I don't know how we missed this, but we need to review this movie
- 1:32:20with Steve and Izzy, right?
- 1:32:22The movie we're talking about is senior moment, starring William Shatner.
- 1:32:27It's epic.
- 1:32:28He's like a retired test pilot or something.
- 1:32:31And he's senior now and whatever.
- 1:32:34And like, he's out in his like three 56 or something in California.
- 1:32:38And like he rolls up next to somebody in a stoplight and is all like let's do
- 1:32:42this and like he's like drag racing And I think he's like 360s and across a parking
- 1:32:48lot or something I don't know basically gets his like license revoked and then
- 1:32:51it's this whole thing of him like trying to get his I think driver's license
- 1:32:55back and then like meet some woman who I think is into cars too or something.
- 1:32:59And he ends up like on a racetrack with her.
- 1:33:01It's like this whole thing.
- 1:33:03I'm like, what is going on?
- 1:33:05This is awesome.
- 1:33:07How did we miss this in the middle of COVID?
- 1:33:09It was 2021.
- 1:33:11Exactly.
- 1:33:11Must've been a straight to TV streaming movie.
- 1:33:14There was nothing in the hallmark channel, but we are definitely
- 1:33:17going to revisit this movie.
- 1:33:19We're going to pick this apart.
- 1:33:20We're going to get together with Stephen Izzy.
- 1:33:21And I think this is going to be epic.
- 1:33:23Thank you, Tanya.
- 1:33:24We have found the next movie to review.
- 1:33:26Not only William Shatner, but Jean Smart is like the woman in the
- 1:33:31movie and Jean Smart is hilarious.
- 1:33:33If anybody like follows her, I mean, she's been around forever in everything.
- 1:33:37Really good actress.
- 1:33:38Hilarious.
- 1:33:39There's some spots for Christopher Wooley too.
- 1:33:41Now this is going to be awesome.
- 1:33:42We're going to have a lot of fun with this one.
- 1:33:43So folks, spoiler alert, in the future, there will be a review
- 1:33:47of Senior Moment on Break Fix.
- 1:33:48So we're looking forward to doing that with Steve and Izzy.
- 1:33:50So thank you, Tanya, for that.
- 1:33:52But since we're talking about TV and movie right now, one of the
- 1:33:55announcements that came out here over the winter, and I don't know if.
- 1:33:57Anybody's actually surprised or if anybody actually cares anymore, but top
- 1:34:02gear has been suspended indefinitely.
- 1:34:05I thought that already happened like three years ago.
- 1:34:06No, no, no.
- 1:34:07Officially off the air.
- 1:34:08Wah, wah, wah.
- 1:34:10Until it comes back.
- 1:34:11I mean, I never knew when it was on or how to watch it after, for whatever
- 1:34:15reason, when I stopped with cable and I didn't get BBC America anymore.
- 1:34:19I had no idea how to get it.
- 1:34:21So I just stopped watching it.
- 1:34:22And Netflix lost its relationship with the BBC and then sort of got it back.
- 1:34:26You know, COVID messed all that stuff up and then Britbox picked it up and
- 1:34:30then certain other places you can get BBC America through like Philo and
- 1:34:33things like that, but I lost interest once Clarkson Hammond and May were gone.
- 1:34:37And then the grand tour was such a disappointment that you're just
- 1:34:40like, man, I don't care anymore.
- 1:34:42You know, there's still even some grand tour specials that I haven't watched.
- 1:34:45And I remind myself periodically, I'm like, Oh, I should watch something.
- 1:34:48And I'm like, Oh, I should watch the Scandi flick.
- 1:34:50Nah, I'll just watch reruns of Star Trek instead because it's
- 1:34:53like, I just don't care anymore.
- 1:34:55You know, there's so much other interesting stuff out there to talk
- 1:34:58about, whether it's Tex Mex Motors or the new season of Car Masters, which
- 1:35:03you can go back into our older episodes this month, William Ross and I sat down
- 1:35:07and reviewed season five of Car Masters.
- 1:35:09Cause there's some controversy there in the Ferrari world.
- 1:35:12And you know, there's a lot of other stuff that's gotten my attention.
- 1:35:15And so going back to watch.
- 1:35:16The same old shtick is whatever.
- 1:35:19And sadly, Top Gear America was not good.
- 1:35:22Top Gear Australia was short lived.
- 1:35:24I really enjoyed that.
- 1:35:25And then the new, they kept changing the team, except for, you know, Joey
- 1:35:29from Friends, you know, on Top Gear.
- 1:35:31And it's just like, whatever, who cares anymore?
- 1:35:34I thought Matt LeBlanc was actually pretty good.
- 1:35:36That's why they kept him around.
- 1:35:37Everybody else, it was like a revolving door until, you know, they
- 1:35:39got Chris Harris and all those guys.
- 1:35:41And even Chris Harris has got his own thing going on.
- 1:35:44But if you're a fan of his podcast.
- 1:35:46Even that doesn't have any sort of cadence anymore.
- 1:35:49It's like, oh, well, three months have gone by and he puts out another episode.
- 1:35:51And you're like, all right, whatever.
- 1:35:52And I get that he's busy doing his thing, but I think we've all sort of moved on.
- 1:35:58And the new generation of petrolheads aren't consuming
- 1:36:01this sort of media on TV anymore.
- 1:36:03They're consuming it on YouTube.
- 1:36:04So between Hoovy's Garage and Whistle and Diesel and all those guys, I
- 1:36:08mean, there's a million different channels you could be watching on
- 1:36:11YouTube and getting car reviews.
- 1:36:13And getting access to stuff and people hooning around and playing the fool.
- 1:36:17And speaking of hooning around, we also saw in the last couple of
- 1:36:20months, the dissolution of Hoonigan.
- 1:36:22All the OG guys from Hoonigan are gone.
- 1:36:25Like just the last one, I think it was last week said he's out, he's done.
- 1:36:29And so you're seeing a turnover right now in the market, in this
- 1:36:34automobile entertainment sector, whatever you want to call it.
- 1:36:37So we're going to keep doing our thing like we always have,
- 1:36:40but I'm curious to see what.
- 1:36:42Props out here in the next couple of years, if anything at all, our four
- 1:36:46listeners are happy that we're going to continue on arbitrage rated for listeners.
- 1:36:50All right.
- 1:36:50So be real lowered expectations, right?
- 1:36:53The whole thing is sort of like, wow, that caught me by surprise.
- 1:36:56Didn't know that was a thing, whatever.
- 1:36:58And you know, we.
- 1:36:59Made fun of this movie for such a long time.
- 1:37:03Oh, this is a joke, whatever.
- 1:37:04I had the opportunity to watch the Gran Turismo movie because I was
- 1:37:09delayed on a flight and I was like, well, I got a couple hours to kill.
- 1:37:11It's free on the airline.
- 1:37:13I might as well watch it.
- 1:37:14I went into it with low expectations as the point of this segment.
- 1:37:18And I came away.
- 1:37:20And I know you guys saw it as well.
- 1:37:21And I want to get your hot takes.
- 1:37:23I thought it was good.
- 1:37:23I thought it was entertaining.
- 1:37:25I saw it in IMAX.
- 1:37:26It's just something to do on a Wednesday night or something.
- 1:37:29I thought it was good.
- 1:37:30One thing I did note the Instagram personality, Amelia, I can't remember
- 1:37:35her last name, but she was one of the drivers in the, in the movie.
- 1:37:39So congratulations to her for getting a, uh, an acting gig like that.
- 1:37:42Good job.
- 1:37:43I thought it was interesting.
- 1:37:44I don't think it had anything to do with how that whole situation really went down,
- 1:37:49but it was entertaining, which I think is the whole point of a movie to begin with.
- 1:37:52It's supposed to be entertaining and I was entertained.
- 1:37:54So the thumbs up.
- 1:37:55Exactly.
- 1:37:56And I think it gave us a glimpse into the NISMO program at the time.
- 1:38:00It gave us a glimpse into the GT Academy and loosely based on true events.
- 1:38:04Now, Jan, the main character was actually in the movie and did
- 1:38:07his own stunt driving, which was cool, you know, on that part.
- 1:38:10Somebody else pointed out to me, you know, when he went through the GT
- 1:38:14Academy, the GTR was not available.
- 1:38:15He was in 350Zs.
- 1:38:17I don't think that the GTR wasn't available, but he didn't use it.
- 1:38:20Well, nobody wants to watch a movie with, you know, 20 year old Nissan 350Zs in it,
- 1:38:23although it would have been kind of cool.
- 1:38:25Yeah, I would have.
- 1:38:25I would have too.
- 1:38:26I would have preferred that.
- 1:38:27It would have been more exciting.
- 1:38:28They should have used black Honda Civics with underglow.
- 1:38:32They weren't actually trying to make a documentary, so there you
- 1:38:35have it, because they should have actually used what he drove because
- 1:38:37those cars are still available.
- 1:38:39It can be found.
- 1:38:40And I did have somebody ask me recently.
- 1:38:42I think Tanya, you're with me when, when it happened, they were like,
- 1:38:44so did they really win Lamont?
- 1:38:46The amateur class?
- 1:38:47Yeah, but not Lamont.
- 1:38:49So I was like, I'm not going to sit here and explain how sports
- 1:38:51car endurance racing works.
- 1:38:52So I just kind of nodded my head and smiled like an idiot.
- 1:38:55And I'm like, yeah, yeah, yeah, sure did.
- 1:38:57And unfortunately that's the takeaway from the movie.
- 1:38:59It's going to give people this certain impression because once you
- 1:39:02put up that thing that says based on true events, how do you know
- 1:39:04what's fact and what's fiction?
- 1:39:06Tanya, we talked about this.
- 1:39:07His coach, the chief engineer guy, that guy did not exist.
- 1:39:11Obviously he had a whole team of people he was working with, but that one character,
- 1:39:15they needed him to move the story forward.
- 1:39:17I'm assuming Orlando Bloom's character sort of existed.
- 1:39:21That character existed.
- 1:39:22The things I took away from it, and I think you guys probably did too, is
- 1:39:25the driving sequences, the wide line and the late apex and all this stuff.
- 1:39:29And I was like, what in.
- 1:39:32Physics.
- 1:39:32Are you talking about sometimes I take the line and it's faster than the
- 1:39:36preferred line around the racetrack.
- 1:39:38And I'm like, offline passing is one thing, but all this nonsense,
- 1:39:42I'm like, dude, you're losing speed.
- 1:39:44Yeah.
- 1:39:44The further you get away from the apex, the longer you're making the track.
- 1:39:47Like, what are you talking about?
- 1:39:49You're not going to carry more speed on the exit.
- 1:39:51Just centrifugal force.
- 1:39:52It's not going to work period.
- 1:39:54At that moment, I had to stop myself because I was getting agitated and
- 1:39:57I'm like, nope, stop, it's a movie.
- 1:39:58Stop thinking about it.
- 1:39:59Just go with it.
- 1:40:00What kind of killed me though, was every race ended the same way.
- 1:40:05Two centimeters.
- 1:40:06Ugh.
- 1:40:07Difference, nose to nose.
- 1:40:08Like an episode of the Dukes of Hazzard where the car is midair
- 1:40:12and they just, See y'all next week!
- 1:40:13And you're like, come on, man.
- 1:40:15Everything's a photo finish in this movie and it's just super annoying.
- 1:40:18Drama.
- 1:40:19Oh yeah, okay, whatever.
- 1:40:20But, did you guys do some car spotting?
- 1:40:23Because there was something super cool that I appreciate the movie for.
- 1:40:26What did Jans It's dad drive.
- 1:40:28I know.
- 1:40:29I know.
- 1:40:29I was there.
- 1:40:30His dad drove a BR6 Corrado.
- 1:40:33How awesome is that?
- 1:40:34Yeah.
- 1:40:34Yeah.
- 1:40:35That car came on the screen.
- 1:40:36I was like, boom.
- 1:40:37I'm here for this.
- 1:40:38Now the stupid driving sequence, you know, trying to evade
- 1:40:41the cops and all that stuff.
- 1:40:42I was like, okay.
- 1:40:43We owned a Corrado.
- 1:40:44I've driven Corrados.
- 1:40:45I drove my dad's Corrado.
- 1:40:46I learned how to drive on a Corrado.
- 1:40:49It doesn't do that, but okay.
- 1:40:51Okay.
- 1:40:51Maybe in the right hands it does.
- 1:40:53Yeah.
- 1:40:53And the right hands of my controller on need for speed underground.
- 1:40:56It sure does, but not in real life.
- 1:41:00It must not have had glazed rotors.
- 1:41:02Oh man.
- 1:41:03Oh God.
- 1:41:04Oh yeah.
- 1:41:05I wrecked cause I had glazed rotors.
- 1:41:06No, you did it.
- 1:41:07Yes, he did.
- 1:41:08Oh god.
- 1:41:09Because Gran Turismo on PlayStation 2 simulated glazed rotors a lot or whatever.
- 1:41:15Yeah, it was so dumb.
- 1:41:16So dumb.
- 1:41:17It's so realistic.
- 1:41:18It's so realistic.
- 1:41:20I just wrote a whole article about simulation racing and the realism and how
- 1:41:24games have changed all this kind of stuff.
- 1:41:25So I'm not going to go on my soapbox about that.
- 1:41:27I just encourage people to go to our website.
- 1:41:29It's like GTMotorsports.
- 1:41:30org and read about it.
- 1:41:31It's been an interesting adventure going into that, but Tanya and I recently sat
- 1:41:35down and watch Road to Glory, which is the group B story as told by Lancia.
- 1:41:41That too, we were doing fact checking while we're watching the movie.
- 1:41:45It's like, did that really happen to Walter Rural?
- 1:41:47Like, and then, you know, Michelle Mutant drives me nuts.
- 1:41:50Some of the acting was just whatever, but the movie itself was actually quite good.
- 1:41:54And I'm going to watch it again.
- 1:41:55I want my kids to watch.
- 1:41:56It didn't get good scores on Rotten Tomatoes.
- 1:41:59Tanya and I talked about that and it's like, who's the person
- 1:42:02doing the judging of this?
- 1:42:03Are these automotive enthusiasts?
- 1:42:05Are these rally fans?
- 1:42:06Or is it just a bunch of people going, Ah, this movie sucked.
- 1:42:08I didn't like it.
- 1:42:08I thought it was dumb.
- 1:42:09Growing up in the groupie era, watching these races and whatnot.
- 1:42:12I thought it was a good way to dramatize and sort of water down the
- 1:42:18struggle between Lancia and Audi.
- 1:42:20Yeah, they interweaved some real footage in there in a nice
- 1:42:24way, which was nice to see.
- 1:42:26Overall, the movie was entertaining, I would say questionable in terms of what
- 1:42:32was truly factual versus dramatization.
- 1:42:35And I think even the closing credits where it said, you know, based on true
- 1:42:39events, there was some other turn of phrase that was used that made it sound
- 1:42:43like it was more inspired by than based on loosely interpreted or something.
- 1:42:49There was definitely a disclaimer there, and it was an homage to the
- 1:42:53era, but it wasn't in the same way as when we reviewed the Lamborghini
- 1:42:56movie where you're like, This is fake.
- 1:42:59Don't take this as any sort of fact.
- 1:43:01I'd be curious to, like, find some information around, because Walter Rorel
- 1:43:05was a huge focal point in the movie.
- 1:43:09And honestly, I guess I don't really know much about him.
- 1:43:11But the way he was depicted, I was a little surprised by, I guess I just had an
- 1:43:15assumption of his personal true character.
- 1:43:18And it was a bit of an antithesis to that.
- 1:43:20So I'd be interested to see, did they actually have his buy in and
- 1:43:24support of the way he was represented.
- 1:43:26And a lot of us, especially in the Audi community, regard Walter Wuerl
- 1:43:30like he's a god up on Mount Olympus.
- 1:43:32You know, he's a hero amongst men.
- 1:43:34The way they painted him, you're like, man, he's a jerk.
- 1:43:36But I've read some articles, like in the Quattro Quarterly and stuff like that,
- 1:43:40where they've done these winter driving events with Walter, and I've seen some
- 1:43:43interviews with him and Hans Stuck.
- 1:43:45He seems like a nice guy.
- 1:43:46I don't know, maybe that's because of age.
- 1:43:48Maybe back then when he was younger, he was like, I'm the hot shoe.
- 1:43:51Everybody wants me to drive on their team.
- 1:43:53And so he could play these games.
- 1:43:55Like they sort of portrayed him doing where it's like, I'm going to drive the
- 1:43:57races I want to drive and to hell with the rest of your season kind of thing.
- 1:44:01And it really put.
- 1:44:02Launch on a bad spot again, if you're a race fan and you want to learn a
- 1:44:06little bit about rally and you want to get a taste for group B without
- 1:44:09watching mockumentaries and stuff like the killer B years and some of
- 1:44:13these other films that are out there.
- 1:44:14This was a good telling from an angle that hasn't been told before.
- 1:44:19Normally you get the Audi side of things and the Ford RS 200 and you don't
- 1:44:22really hear about launcher too much.
- 1:44:24So it was nice.
- 1:44:25to have a different perspective on the whole era.
- 1:44:28Now, I will say, I haven't gotten the opportunity to
- 1:44:30watch the Ferrari movie yet.
- 1:44:31I've been told, go in with an open mind, again, be entertained.
- 1:44:35So, we've got a bunch of these movies right now where it's sort of like, take
- 1:44:37them on face value, be entertained.
- 1:44:39Again, I miss the chance to see Ferrari in theaters.
- 1:44:42I am going to watch it and hopefully we can get together and talk about
- 1:44:46it, maybe review that with Steven Izzy as well, because, you know,
- 1:44:49there is that Hollywood aspect.
- 1:44:50Of the new Ferrari movie as well.
- 1:44:52But I've heard good things about it, so I'm excited to see that.
- 1:44:55So hopefully by next time, you know, we'll be able to talk
- 1:44:57about it a little bit more.
- 1:44:59But before we close out, lowered expectations, Brad, we have a
- 1:45:02nominee for the uncool wall.
- 1:45:04Yeah, . This is like the eagle eye hammer thrust right here.
- 1:45:09This is like the Jeep Patriot.
- 1:45:13It looks like the old Cherokee.
- 1:45:14I don't know what that is.
- 1:45:15The Liberty or the Patriot.
- 1:45:19Compass.
- 1:45:20That's the other one I was thinking.
- 1:45:20Let's read the name of this thing, shall we?
- 1:45:23It says here, the extremely rare and bizarre Italian coach
- 1:45:27built Hummer, H one T-Rex.
- 1:45:30It has nothing to do with a Hummer has.
- 1:45:32Has that person ever seen a Hummer?
- 1:45:33It's obviously a Jeep.
- 1:45:35This thing is horrendous for every Aries coach builder to build something
- 1:45:39that people might actually want.
- 1:45:41There's this.
- 1:45:43Will.
- 1:45:43I am coach builder.
- 1:45:46That is absolutely absurd.
- 1:45:49I don't get it.
- 1:45:50And that's just it.
- 1:45:51And so what I love about this is when I saw this, I laughed out loud.
- 1:45:55And then I said, man, Oh man, we finally got the La Forza for the new era.
- 1:46:01Cause if you remember that SUV handcrafted Italian made from like.
- 1:46:06A lot of parts out of Russia or whatever, like this is the same thing, you know,
- 1:46:10move it forward about 10, 20 years.
- 1:46:12It's abysmal.
- 1:46:13I mean, there's no other way to put this absolutely horrendous.
- 1:46:17It just proves that there's an ass for every seat because
- 1:46:20somebody bought this thing.
- 1:46:21So what's better, this or the multi blood?
- 1:46:23I mean, I'd buy this before I.
- 1:46:25Took over your Cybertruck allotment.
- 1:46:29Is that a circle sunroof?
- 1:46:30You don't have to unpack it really.
- 1:46:32It just gets worse.
- 1:46:33The more you look at it.
- 1:46:35We do have rich people thangs.
- 1:46:38Picture that I found Michael Jordan, allegedly a picture of him unveiling
- 1:46:42at some point, his car collection at the time of this picture, the
- 1:46:47second most expensive in the world.
- 1:46:48I don't know if that's true anymore.
- 1:46:50Probably not.
- 1:46:51But what was interesting was immediately.
- 1:46:54Where my eyes went by like the front row of red Ferraris with
- 1:46:57the rally cars on the left side.
- 1:47:00Yeah.
- 1:47:00You get the three random rally cars.
- 1:47:02Yes.
- 1:47:03Well, not just random.
- 1:47:04Some of the most iconic ones in history.
- 1:47:06Random as some of these are not like the others.
- 1:47:08Yes.
- 1:47:09Okay.
- 1:47:10But let's look at what they are for what they are.
- 1:47:13The Audi S1 Evo 2 Pikes Peak car.
- 1:47:16The Delta S4.
- 1:47:18And at 037, I'm like, holy crap.
- 1:47:21Those are three of the most iconic rally cars of all time.
- 1:47:24And if you look closely, you can't identify all the cars in this mix.
- 1:47:28I mean, you can point out the Countach and the 550 convertible
- 1:47:31in the back and the 599.
- 1:47:33There's a Miura, there's a R390 Nissan GT1 street version.
- 1:47:38He's got two EB110s.
- 1:47:40There's some cool stuff.
- 1:47:42He's got two 550 convertibles.
- 1:47:44And then I think the other.
- 1:47:45Newer Ferrari, there's like a convertible 599 or FXX or,
- 1:47:51yeah, Fiorano or one of those.
- 1:47:52Yeah.
- 1:47:52Yeah.
- 1:47:53I think it's Fiorano.
- 1:47:54And then the orange cars looks like an XJ220 with a wing.
- 1:47:57Yeah.
- 1:47:58That's what I was thinking too.
- 1:47:59So that's an XJ220LM if it has that on it.
- 1:48:02Each of the Ferrari halo cars, the 288 GTO, the F40 and the F50.
- 1:48:07If this is true, I don't know.
- 1:48:08That's a hell of a collection.
- 1:48:10Whoever it belongs to, or maybe it's all Photoshop.
- 1:48:14It's his Forza Garage, Project Cars here or whatever.
- 1:48:17That's what my Forza Garage looks like.
- 1:48:19100 percent it does.
- 1:48:20My Forza Garage would have a Fiat Panda in it.
- 1:48:23And an Eagle Talon.
- 1:48:24I can only imagine that Michael Jordan has some cool cars.
- 1:48:28That's all I'm going to say about this.
- 1:48:29So whether this is real or fiction, I'm good with it one way or the other.
- 1:48:33Well, now it's time we go down south.
- 1:48:36Talk about alligators and meat.
- 1:48:39Florida man.
- 1:48:52Except I don't think we ever do and this is what happens when
- 1:48:55somebody else does Florida man.
- 1:48:58Cause I don't know what this one has to do with anything other than being
- 1:49:02part of stupid criminal files, but if you're going to rob a Walmart,
- 1:49:06don't do it when 75 police officers are there for a shop with a cop day.
- 1:49:10Just saying.
- 1:49:12Don't rob Walmart in general, but if you're going to, cause you're stupid,
- 1:49:16don't do it when the PO is there.
- 1:49:20It says 727.
- 1:49:22I read that 72, 000.
- 1:49:25I was like, who would be thinking of 72, 000 worth of shit at Walmart?
- 1:49:29It's one of everything in the store.
- 1:49:32So don't do that.
- 1:49:33I'm not sure where the car relation is.
- 1:49:35It's holiday Florida, man.
- 1:49:37You see, that's the importance of it.
- 1:49:39Okay.
- 1:49:39Maybe there were Hot Wheels in the 727 worth of shit.
- 1:49:43Guarantee you there were.
- 1:49:44Probably some Power Wheels.
- 1:49:45Well, that's how they were moving the merchandise.
- 1:49:49That would have been a good story.
- 1:49:50Woman driving power wheels with seven hundred, uh, with six hundred and fifty.
- 1:49:56You gotta count the power wheels in there.
- 1:49:58Yeah.
- 1:49:59Anyway.
- 1:50:00Moving on.
- 1:50:01This next one's much better.
- 1:50:02I didn't know the Danes were so foolish.
- 1:50:04You know why this is important?
- 1:50:06We literally talked about this a couple drive thrus back where we said
- 1:50:10we've never had Danish people in the Florida Man segment and the universe.
- 1:50:15Provided the donor provides.
- 1:50:17Ah, this intrepid soul thought that they were going to keep their EV battery.
- 1:50:24It's not disclosed which EV this is.
- 1:50:26Let's just assume it's a Tesla.
- 1:50:28Their electric vehicle, they wanted to keep the battery warm during the
- 1:50:34below freezing overnight temperatures.
- 1:50:37What do you think they did?
- 1:50:38Have a garage?
- 1:50:40Have a heated garage?
- 1:50:41Maybe they exist, I don't know, like, blanket?
- 1:50:44Like, the diesel engines you can get?
- 1:50:46The warming blankets?
- 1:50:47I think it's probably a bad idea on the battery in general, and that
- 1:50:50you can't get that, but this guy thought putting a toaster on the
- 1:50:53highest setting possible under the car, presumably touching the battery.
- 1:51:01It was a good idea.
- 1:51:03The whole damn thing burnt to the ground.
- 1:51:05It worked.
- 1:51:06The battery was warm.
- 1:51:07The battery was warm.
- 1:51:08The battery was warm.
- 1:51:09That's all you can ask for.
- 1:51:11It was warm for quite a while too.
- 1:51:13I applaud his ingenuity.
- 1:51:15I love the subheading here.
- 1:51:17Danish police say they strongly discourage this practice.
- 1:51:21To me that implies that it's happened more than once.
- 1:51:25There's a run on people heating their EVs with toasters?
- 1:51:28Or space heaters or something?
- 1:51:30Space heaters, yeah.
- 1:51:31So this begs the question, my diesel has a plug with an engine warmer
- 1:51:37that I can plug in in the winter.
- 1:51:38You've got an engine block heater.
- 1:51:39Yeah, so.
- 1:51:40The electric car is already plugged in.
- 1:51:42Why aren't the manufacturers creating a system that pulls the electricity from
- 1:51:46the wall and keeps the batteries at a temperature that is comfortable for
- 1:51:50them in these sub below temperatures?
- 1:51:52Well, I don't get it here.
- 1:51:53What possesses people?
- 1:51:54It would use too much battery power to keep the battery warm, but it's
- 1:51:57plugged in or you live somewhere where it's like sub Arctic temperatures.
- 1:52:03Don't have an EV because they're not going to be great.
- 1:52:05I mean, bless you for thinking of the environment in terms of
- 1:52:08emissions from your tailpipe.
- 1:52:10But how many pollutants does a melting EV put into the atmosphere?
- 1:52:14That's what I want to know.
- 1:52:16They probably can never recoup that.
- 1:52:18All the toxins that got released in the burning of that vehicle.
- 1:52:22That's a government grant.
- 1:52:24I would be okay with subsidizing.
- 1:52:26Let's do a study on when a Tesla burns to the ground, how many hydrocarbons
- 1:52:31does that put into the atmosphere?
- 1:52:33But EVs burn to the ground far less often than ICE vehicles.
- 1:52:38Tell me they burn cleaner.
- 1:52:39That's all I want to know.
- 1:52:40Yeah, that's the clean incineration of your vehicle.
- 1:52:44All right, this next one had a video with it, but the video doesn't exist anymore.
- 1:52:49So it's really hard to understand what's actually happening.
- 1:52:51Somebody driving a dump truck abandoned it on the highway.
- 1:52:55And then almost got plowed into by a cement truck.
- 1:52:58But also, did you notice in the photograph, they
- 1:53:00put a spotlight on the guy.
- 1:53:02What's in the left lane that he almost got hit by as well?
- 1:53:04Well, that's who recorded the video.
- 1:53:06A Tesla dash cam caught it.
- 1:53:08See, it's Tesla's everywhere.
- 1:53:09Without seeing the video, it's hard to say what actually we're
- 1:53:13supposed to get out of this.
- 1:53:14Because one photo, the dump truck was literally just.
- 1:53:17Stopped in a lane of traffic and it's a foggy situation.
- 1:53:20I don't necessarily blame him for wanting to get out of the car.
- 1:53:23Are you safe?
- 1:53:24Stop dead in a lane of moving traffic.
- 1:53:26You're safer in the car than out.
- 1:53:28I don't know if you are or not.
- 1:53:30I call this the Tony Stewart rule.
- 1:53:32We learned this at the track all the time.
- 1:53:34Never get out of the vehicle unless it's on fire, and if it is, go somewhere safe.
- 1:53:40Again, what possesses people to do shit like this?
- 1:53:43I still feel like it's safer to be in a vehicle on the highway than to
- 1:53:47be out of the vehicle on the highway.
- 1:53:49Suspended on a bridge like that?
- 1:53:50You're stuck.
- 1:53:51But if you were somewhere where you could go over the Jersey wall behind a guardrail
- 1:53:55and be far away from your vehicle, I'd say it's safer to get the hell out than
- 1:53:59have some asshole who's texting rear end you because that happens all the time.
- 1:54:02In that instance.
- 1:54:03Yes, I would say so.
- 1:54:04But this guy clearly didn't have any situational awareness to see.
- 1:54:08I mean, yes, he's on a bridge.
- 1:54:09Where the fuck is he going to go?
- 1:54:10Some people in the comments who saw the video were like, the cement
- 1:54:13truck was headed straight for him.
- 1:54:15If you saw cement truck heading straight for you, what would you do?
- 1:54:17Stand there?
- 1:54:18I don't know.
- 1:54:19Well, no, I wouldn't be out of the car, period.
- 1:54:21I'll say this in closing.
- 1:54:22We'll never know except for the few photographs that are lingering around,
- 1:54:25because not only was the video taken down, to Tanya's point, if you read closely
- 1:54:30the warning from YouTube, it's not just like, Oh, the user, the author creator of
- 1:54:34this video has remove this or whatever.
- 1:54:36It literally says the video is no longer available because the
- 1:54:39YouTube account associated with the video has been terminated.
- 1:54:43I don't know what that means.
- 1:54:44Something really egregious happened here.
- 1:54:46Like I don't really know.
- 1:54:47So I don't think it was a publicity stunt or anything, but it is a public
- 1:54:51service announcement in the sense that to Tanya's point, if you're
- 1:54:54on a bridge, you're sort of stuck.
- 1:54:55But I tend to agree that if you can get your vehicle.
- 1:54:59Off the road as it's becoming incapacitated and you can get away from
- 1:55:03your car with your cell phone, you're probably better off over the wall in
- 1:55:08the woods as far away from it because that chance that the truck driver
- 1:55:13or that another Tesla or whatever it is, isn't paying attention and hits
- 1:55:17you could be pretty high these days.
- 1:55:18So when you do exit, don't do like this guy, don't exit into traffic,
- 1:55:23crawl across your interior, you know, exit out the passenger side,
- 1:55:26especially if you're in the right shoulder, you know, stuff like that.
- 1:55:28Use common sense at the end of the day.
- 1:55:30And finally, this last one, who needs the Tesla semi?
- 1:55:34You must've been planning this because you hook up your, what is this?
- 1:55:38A model model?
- 1:55:38Why you're able to hitch it randomly to the 53 foot trailer.
- 1:55:43Like what was this?
- 1:55:44Daniel, is that possible that your hitch just can connect?
- 1:55:48You must've purposely planned this and like had time to make sure you had
- 1:55:51the correct hitch to mate with this.
- 1:55:53trailer he got the right attachments and jerry rigged something onto the trail
- 1:55:57was that in the foundation edition maybe this is in the tri mode or cyber beast
- 1:56:01edition did you see the tiktok video though like this was done on purpose
- 1:56:05i'm guessing that the trailer yeah it's empty it was 100 percent done on
- 1:56:09purpose there he is doing like Three miles an hour towing this thing and then
- 1:56:13he turns across traffic, but it did it.
- 1:56:15He's pulling it.
- 1:56:16And that's the thing about towing, right?
- 1:56:18I mean, we joke all the time about the Europeans and they'll tow a
- 1:56:21vacation camper van behind them with a Seat Ibiza or whatever the
- 1:56:251600, you know, four cylinder.
- 1:56:27But the thing is, once you overcome the inertia and you start rolling
- 1:56:31a lot of the big trucks, it's sort of a waste in the sense.
- 1:56:34And I understand the science that he's proving here that you don't need an F.
- 1:56:38475 triple diesel, you know, smokestacks and all this stuff.
- 1:56:43Did the batteries burn up?
- 1:56:44Right.
- 1:56:44You put a lot of stress on that Model Y at the end of the day.
- 1:56:47And that's where the big trucks have the advantage.
- 1:56:49They can pull a lot of weight with ease.
- 1:56:53But once you're rolling at 50 miles an hour.
- 1:56:55The most important thing at that point is how big are your brakes?
- 1:56:58How quickly can you stop that weight?
- 1:57:00But once you've overcome the inertia, eh, it's all about the same, right?
- 1:57:04I'll give credit where credit is due.
- 1:57:06As stupid as this is, the Tesla Y did it, but I don't know if he
- 1:57:10was carrying pillows in the back.
- 1:57:12The weight of an unladen trailer is heavy.
- 1:57:14It did it, but we don't know that that Tesla's gonna go another
- 1:57:18100 miles down the road before.
- 1:57:20It's under warranty, 13 motors later, it'll be fine.
- 1:57:24We already know this.
- 1:57:25If you go back to the PepsiCo Tesla semi truck that it couldn't
- 1:57:28do 400 miles, it burned itself up.
- 1:57:30It probably had an empty payload and it burned the batteries up in the
- 1:57:34motor or whatever for going 400 miles.
- 1:57:36It's allegedly designed to be a tractor trailer.
- 1:57:39And this thing pulled a trailer.
- 1:57:41I don't know.
- 1:57:41Oh, you said it before the Tesla semi is built with car parts.
- 1:57:45What you saw here is this is the Tesla semi.
- 1:57:48You just put the bigger body on top of the model Y and you
- 1:57:52have the semi weight reduction.
- 1:57:55This is Tesla semi 2.
- 1:57:560.
- 1:57:57This is the Tesla semi superleggera.
- 1:58:01You get the plaid edition, then you get the speed key, triple
- 1:58:05motors, the whole nine yards.
- 1:58:06Could the model Y do zero to 16, 20 seconds?
- 1:58:09With the trailer.
- 1:58:10Yeah.
- 1:58:10A hundred percent.
- 1:58:11That rounds out our Florida man for the winter, Tanya.
- 1:58:14I'm looking forward to, as we come out of the winter freeze, what
- 1:58:18will blossom in the great state.
- 1:58:20State of Florida for us, you know, great stories that we get
- 1:58:22to tell throughout the year.
- 1:58:23So looking forward to it.
- 1:58:24And for those of you that are missing out on a great Florida man
- 1:58:26stories, go back to last month.
- 1:58:28We did our best of Florida man stories from the year, incorporating
- 1:58:32some new stuff in there too, that you haven't had heard before.
- 1:58:34So it was a lot of fun.
- 1:58:36So hopefully if you didn't catch it, go back and listen to it.
- 1:58:38And if you did, we hope we put a smile on your face, more to come
- 1:58:41from Florida man throughout the year.
- 1:58:43But now it's time to go behind the pit wall, talk about sports news.
- 1:58:48Of which we have none on this list because it's the middle of winter and
- 1:58:51the seasons really haven't kicked off.
- 1:58:53There's no formula one right now.
- 1:58:55You know, everything's really still in its gestation period.
- 1:58:57The only event that I can think of that's of importance or significance
- 1:59:01right now is kicking off the sports car and endurance series.
- 1:59:05At the end of January at the Rolex 24 hours.
- 1:59:09So I'm really looking forward to watching Rolex from the
- 1:59:12comfort of my couch this year.
- 1:59:13As we talked about last year, it's a great way to kick off the year.
- 1:59:16And I am also looking forward to my membership to the ACO, getting access
- 1:59:21to the WEC races leading up to Le Mans.
- 1:59:24And then, you know, I'm thinking.
- 1:59:25Maybe we'll go back to Rhode Atlanta for petite again this year.
- 1:59:28That was a lot of fun last year.
- 1:59:29It was great getting together with friends down there, making new
- 1:59:32friends while I was down there.
- 1:59:33Really looking forward to the sports car and endurance scheduled this year.
- 1:59:36And as a bonus, some of our new co hosts on break fix that'll be
- 1:59:41coming on throughout the year that you'll get to hear their voices.
- 1:59:44A couple of us are actually rally fans.
- 1:59:46So we're going to be doing some like quarterly rally recaps instead of doing
- 1:59:49it inside of the drive thru episode.
- 1:59:51So you can totally fast forward and skip over those episodes
- 1:59:54if you're not interested.
- 1:59:55But if you want to learn more about WRC, we're going to be doing
- 1:59:59some specials throughout the year.
- 2:00:00So I'm really looking forward to doing some coverage with some
- 2:00:03other fans of rally this year.
- 2:00:06You guys have any events that you're looking forward to?
- 2:00:08Any news, any rumblings in formula one?
- 2:00:10I mean, all the new livery press events are being set up and McLaren just
- 2:00:16dropped a bomb on everybody and release.
- 2:00:17There's just randomly that looks like last year's and the year before.
- 2:00:21Yeah.
- 2:00:21All the cars always look like the year before.
- 2:00:24The only one that'll be different this year, I guess, is Alfa
- 2:00:27Romeo is no longer Alfa Romeo.
- 2:00:29They're steak.
- 2:00:31Yeah.
- 2:00:31That's a cool name.
- 2:00:32That's a gap year, right?
- 2:00:34Until Audi comes on next.
- 2:00:35Year possibly.
- 2:00:36Is Audi still coming?
- 2:00:37I don't know.
- 2:00:37Is Andretti buying Haas?
- 2:00:39I mean, there's all that drama too, right?
- 2:00:40No.
- 2:00:40, I mean, yeah, not true bombshell.
- 2:00:43I guess in F1 right now is that Gunther Steiner is no longer the principal
- 2:00:48for Haas who gives a crap good.
- 2:00:50Like why did Gene keep him as long as he did?
- 2:00:52Because of the ratings are drive to survive.
- 2:00:54Yeah, he was a personality.
- 2:00:56Force or a farce.
- 2:00:58I don't know.
- 2:00:58One of the two.
- 2:00:59I like them.
- 2:01:00I like them.
- 2:01:00Next month, we are dedicating February to NASCAR.
- 2:01:05We have a full lineup of NASCAR episodes.
- 2:01:08So if you're at home watching the Daytona 500 in February, catch up on some of our
- 2:01:13history of motorsport series, where we're going to be reviewing the beginnings
- 2:01:17of NASCAR and some of its changes all the way up through NASCAR in space.
- 2:01:23So look forward to some really cool episodes.
- 2:01:25In February surrounding NASCAR.
- 2:01:28And with that, our motorsports news is brought to us in partnership
- 2:01:31with the international motor racing research center in Watkins Glen.
- 2:01:35They haven't posted their schedule of events yet, but I can tell you that the
- 2:01:39eighth annual Argenzinger symposium is going to be in the November timeframe.
- 2:01:43Again, it's always in the fall, just about the same time every year.
- 2:01:46So you can pretty much put that on your calendar right now, or at
- 2:01:49least to save the date for that.
- 2:01:51They're still trying to figure out the rest of their schedule for 2025.
- 2:01:54for, but I do want to remind everybody that the current Corvette
- 2:01:58e ray sweepstakes for the IMRRC is ongoing through April of 2024.
- 2:02:04So if you want to be eligible to win that e ray 3LZ convertible package,
- 2:02:10you can go to racingarchives.
- 2:02:11org and click on the Corvette sweepstakes and enter to win today.
- 2:02:14There's a bunch of different promo codes for that, where you can,
- 2:02:17you know, double down on tickets.
- 2:02:18If you want to get more information on that.
- 2:02:20Call the research center, ask for Kip, and he can give you all the information
- 2:02:24you need on how to get involved in the sweepstakes for the Corvette.
- 2:02:27So we're looking forward to seeing that car in person and congratulating whoever
- 2:02:32wins it here in the April timeframe.
- 2:02:34So you're still in time to jump in and get yourself a Corvette.
- 2:02:37Well, guys, it's that time that we do our shout outs, promotions, and anything
- 2:02:41else we haven't covered thus far.
- 2:02:43As a reminder, you can find tons of upcoming local shows and events
- 2:02:47at the Ultimate Reference for Car Enthusiasts on collectorcarguide.
- 2:02:51net.
- 2:02:51And the track season is not yet underway, so we don't have any special
- 2:02:56bulletins as part of our hbdejunkie.
- 2:02:58com trackside report, but Dave Peters is in the process of adding
- 2:03:02all sorts of events to his database.
- 2:03:05Not kicking off, maybe not up here.
- 2:03:07Kick off for NASA, MSR Houston is like a week or two away.
- 2:03:11Chin has already got like eight events for the next eight weeks.
- 2:03:14So yeah, no, there are track events going on, but we're looking down the
- 2:03:18barrel of some snowstorms right now.
- 2:03:20So there's nothing happening in our area for sure.
- 2:03:22And we are also carrying a new motorsports calendar on gt motorsports.
- 2:03:27org.
- 2:03:27So you can check out some of the other events, whether it's road rallies,
- 2:03:31club racing, rally cross, autocross, all those kinds of things from around
- 2:03:35the country on our events database.
