Latest / Paranormal Lens - A Crossroads Of Curiosities, LLC Production / Can we trust our own memories? | “Remote Contact” interview outtake w/ Lauren Haunts (Monday Bonus)
Transcript
- 0:00I want to show you something. Are you ready?
- 0:03Yes. Maybe. I got an outtake from the film. It
- 0:08is a Paranormal Lens exclusive. Welcome to our
- 0:13podcast where we take deep dives looking at various
- 0:15topics through a paranormal lens. Okay, so this
- 0:20outtake I want to show you guys. It's a three
- 0:23minute clip and get ready for a mindfuck. Ooh.
- 0:28Okay. Angela's definitely more intrigued in...
- 0:33I'm very intrigued. I mean, I am too, but like...
- 0:37Okay, so to backtrack. Had an incredible interview
- 0:45with Lauren Hans, who built the residence chamber
- 0:49at Madison Seminary, which we filmed inside,
- 0:53and it became a large part of... sort of our
- 0:59track in doing our ongoing experiments that we
- 1:03just released in a film streaming on paraflix
- 1:06called remote contact we were doing these vr
- 1:10experiments doing like ss sessions with a vr
- 1:13headset um and things took a turn because we
- 1:18were already leaning more and more and more into
- 1:20the meditative angle of it that like the ss session
- 1:24the sweeping stations and being in this immersive
- 1:29environment can put someone in a more meditative
- 1:31state to potentially experience more activity
- 1:34and have potentially more heightened or psychic
- 1:37activity, which we were experiencing doing our
- 1:40experiments. So when we arrived at MadCon, because
- 1:45we filmed this whole film at two events over
- 1:48the course of like three weeks, and we arrived
- 1:51at MadCon and I decided, no, I'm going to ditch
- 1:54the Estes method. And instead, do the VR headset,
- 2:01which we go into way more detail in the previous
- 2:03episode. This is a continuation of it. Listen
- 2:06to the previous episode to hear all about the
- 2:08prior experiments and what we're doing and everything.
- 2:11Or watch a film, even better. I decided to ditch
- 2:15the SS session and instead do the VR headset
- 2:19experiment with Lauren's guided meditation. Through
- 2:24the residence chamber at Madison Seminary. So
- 2:26that's where she came into the picture. We had
- 2:30a great interview over Zoom a couple weeks later.
- 2:33Not everything could make it into the film. Of
- 2:36course. Like we said in the last episode, we've
- 2:38tried to keep this as focused as possible without
- 2:40waxing poetry and going off on our typical, you
- 2:44know, existential deep dives into... I mean,
- 2:48that's how we are. But... This had to be focused
- 2:52if we wanted, I think at least, if we wanted
- 2:56as many people to participate as possible and
- 2:59just understand the gist of what we were doing.
- 3:00This could have been a very different film if
- 3:02I included this, and I knew I had to include
- 3:04this. This was like the most, I don't even know.
- 3:10It had me thinking more than anything else in
- 3:11the interview, and I was bummed I couldn't include
- 3:14it, and I knew we had to use it here. It's three
- 3:16minutes long. I'm just going to play it for you
- 3:17guys, and we'll talk about this. lauren haunts
- 3:21we were talking about the residence chamber and
- 3:24this is about to just veer into existential mind
- 3:27territory which we love um the uh part of the
- 3:31interview that you did with her yeah yeah this
- 3:33is part of the interview okay okay our brains
- 3:38will do and and people will they hate they they
- 3:44they will hate when i say things like You could
- 3:49be remembering that in a way that you want to
- 3:52remember it and not how it actually happened.
- 3:55Like our neuroplasticity, our brains will either
- 4:00create a memory or change a memory based on either
- 4:03our personal beliefs, our trauma, even sometimes
- 4:08our preferences. So like if you were at a haunted
- 4:12location, think about your most like visceral
- 4:16paranormal experience. Even if other people were
- 4:20there, that could have not happened. That could
- 4:25have been you wanting that experience so badly
- 4:28that your brain was like, oh, maybe we did have
- 4:31that experience. Okay, let's log that memory.
- 4:34We're good. That's exactly how you remembered
- 4:35it. And I don't talk about this often just because
- 4:41it's such a point of contention for paranormal
- 4:44people. But there is a lot of truth in if you
- 4:48want to experience the paranormal, you will.
- 4:51If you want to experience the paranormal, if
- 4:55you really want to, you will. Or if you really
- 4:59fear it, you're going to experience something
- 5:01that's frightening. Or... If you really feel
- 5:05it, you may never experience something paranormal
- 5:07because your brain inputs a different memory
- 5:09if you see something fucked up. One of the first
- 5:12times that in like my adult life that I hit a
- 5:17deer, I still can try to recall that experience
- 5:21and my brain does not allow me to see it. I can
- 5:25remember seeing the deer the next day on the
- 5:26side of the road. I can remember the police verifying
- 5:29it was a deer. I can remember the fact that there
- 5:31was tufts of fur in the front of my vehicle.
- 5:33But when I actually try to remember it happening,
- 5:37my brain inputs a big, huge piece of sheet metal
- 5:42with rust on it, like floating into the frame.
- 5:48hitting my car, flying up and then just flowing
- 5:51off to the side of the road. And like, that's
- 5:54all I can see. And when I try to say like, no,
- 5:56I know it was a deer. It turns into this like
- 5:58huge, like buck with like a big, big rack. But
- 6:03it was like an adolescent, like it was a small
- 6:05deer. And I have told that story so many times
- 6:10because it was such a, like a brain fuck that
- 6:13I was like, what else am I not remembering? Which
- 6:17is why I now at shows, I bring logs that people
- 6:22can buy. Because I'm like, if you're not writing
- 6:24things down after they happen, not recording
- 6:26them, not videotaping them, writing them down,
- 6:29your experience, your personal experience, and
- 6:32then don't look at it again. And then remind
- 6:35yourself in 30 days to try to recall that and
- 6:39then go back and read it and see if things changed.
- 6:44Huh. I love that. So. Oh, goodness. This is this
- 6:50is why we need. I've been like looking if any
- 6:54of you guys know of a really good like person
- 6:58who makes handmade journals. And I mean, like
- 7:00big fat leather ones, handmade paper. I want
- 7:05a specific vibe. But if I have this, we could
- 7:09write down everything. I'll just I'll be the
- 7:11person bringing this to like everywhere we go.
- 7:14And I'm going to write down everything because.
- 7:17That's such a good idea. Huh. I don't know how
- 7:26to think about that. You know my immediate first
- 7:32thought? I'm going to put the audio of this experience.
- 7:37We already talked about it so many times. We're
- 7:40not going to repeat the whole story again. So
- 7:41I'm going to put the audio of us talking about
- 7:42it from a previous episode for all the listeners
- 7:45that don't know. Madison is another one of those
- 7:48places. We've been investigated three times.
- 7:51Each time something has happened that I didn't
- 7:55think would ever happen. And the second time
- 7:58we were there and it was in the morning. She
- 8:02did a solo and she comes down and, you know,
- 8:05she's just like, oh, the camera died. You know,
- 8:10this camera died. where do i plug it in and then
- 8:13she's like i also don't know how to turn this
- 8:14one off can you turn this one off for me to then
- 8:16charge it you know too because it's getting low
- 8:19battery so i'm like yeah here let me show you
- 8:21how to turn it off right after i turn the camera
- 8:24off right after i turn the camera off to for
- 8:31her to plug it in she starts walking away to
- 8:34plug both cameras into the chargers we hear the
- 8:39loudest woman talking it sounded like it sounded
- 8:45like it was coming from an intercom yeah it sounded
- 8:47like an intercom yeah so that's a weird thing
- 8:50it sounded it sounded like amplified didn't sound
- 8:55like it's coming through a speaker but it sounded
- 8:57like like electronic but not like really electronic
- 9:00it just sounded a little electronic like it was
- 9:02ample just amplified or something it sounded
- 9:04electronic key But wasn't coming from electronic.
- 9:09Exactly. What was the voice? What did it say?
- 9:12Yeah. So it was like further, further into the
- 9:15tone. We needed to establish this. It sounded
- 9:18like an EVP. Yeah. You know, this is weird, but
- 9:22we comprehend EVPs differently than normal human
- 9:26speech. So like on a recorder, if you hear me
- 9:29say, what is your name? We hear that and we.
- 9:32hear it as what is your name then when we hear
- 9:34a ghost talking a spirit voice we all say what
- 9:37did it say did it say this did it say that when
- 9:39this voice came through sounded like it was amplified
- 9:42through an intercom or something electronic without
- 9:45being electronic we all look to each other what
- 9:47did that say we didn't hear it like normal speech
- 9:50you know what i mean but it sounded like it said
- 9:58clear as day i'm here and then something we couldn't
- 10:01make out i thought it said she's coming no no
- 10:04it said i'm here and then i swear it said after
- 10:08that in the prism but it said i'm here and then
- 10:11something we couldn't make out yes yeah we were
- 10:14debating what it what the second part said because
- 10:16we couldn't hear it well because i mean we heard
- 10:19a plane plane planes can be but it we couldn't
- 10:21comprehend it because it was like an evp electronic
- 10:24without being electronic amplified and Out of
- 10:28nowhere. And we had nothing recording to be able
- 10:30to re -listen to it. And then all of a sudden,
- 10:33also, all of the cat balls on the table started
- 10:36going off. Which were off. Which were not on.
- 10:39They were off, yeah. And the EMF meters started
- 10:41going nuts. They turned on by itself. Yeah. Yeah,
- 10:44so the cat balls turned on and started going
- 10:47off. EMF meters started going berserk. Every
- 10:49device. We turned on Spirit Box and tried to
- 10:52record a session. Everything was going off. It
- 10:55was like a surge. And it's the weirdest, I still
- 11:00can hear this voice in my head. It didn't make
- 11:03sense. It was the loudest voice. Yeah, and literally,
- 11:06like, within, I think it was even within two
- 11:09minutes. Within a minute. Within a minute, yeah.
- 11:11Becca had pulled up the driveway, so we ran out.
- 11:15We're just like, is there an intercom in this
- 11:17building? Yeah. Were you, like, telling us that
- 11:20you're here or something? Yeah, like, is there
- 11:22an intercom? Is that kind of what it seemed like?
- 11:24No. Yeah. Because that's what we were thinking.
- 11:29We were like, oh, she just rolled up. There must
- 11:30be an intercom. Maybe she said, I'm here. Maybe
- 11:33we heard her in some way. Maybe her car speaker
- 11:36connected to a Bluetooth speaker in here somewhere.
- 11:40We were thinking of everything. There isn't anything
- 11:42like that in there. And I had Adam check the
- 11:46security camera in there. It was off. completely
- 11:51off not doing anything and doesn't even have
- 11:54a speaker option none of the security cameras
- 11:56in the building have speaker options none of
- 11:58the um point of sales uh you know kind of tablets
- 12:03they had or anything because they have everything
- 12:05in there in storage we looked like the radio
- 12:06we opened every cabinet we could find there was
- 12:10no electronics on or anything that could make
- 12:14that sound anyways but it was literally filled
- 12:17the room It sounded like the loudest disembodied
- 12:23voice. Like in the room. I'm here in the prism.
- 12:29So we're back. I just played them a clip of I'm
- 12:33here in the prism. Oh god. In that clip we just
- 12:39listened to we were even debating what it said.
- 12:43We all heard prism but we didn't hear like we
- 12:47couldn't figure out we're like what did it say
- 12:49i'm here and uh i want you we couldn't figure
- 12:52out yeah yes what if didn't happen or what if
- 12:58it was less significant of a moment than any
- 13:02of us remember to be and us talking about it
- 13:05so many times morph our recollection of that
- 13:11experience and hold it on a higher pedestal than
- 13:14it ought to be because i said That it's the most
- 13:19significant paranormal experience and the only
- 13:22one that I think was a true ghost out of, like,
- 13:26every investigation. And what if there was a
- 13:29perfectly plausible explanation and we all...
- 13:33I don't even know if we all experienced the same
- 13:35thing that I experienced. Well, we definitely
- 13:39all experienced the same thing. Like, we all
- 13:42talked about it. But we still... What if... What
- 13:46have you guys heard? Because we all heard prism,
- 13:50but the first part we couldn't make out. No.
- 13:53Well, no. We all heard I'm here. I'm here. It's
- 13:57the second part that we couldn't decide what
- 13:59it said. You're the one who thought it said in
- 14:03the prism. In the prism. This is only proving
- 14:06the point. This is proving the point. Prism was
- 14:09the clearest part of the whole thing to me. See,
- 14:12that part wasn't clear to the rest of us. Yeah,
- 14:15and that wasn't clear to us. Okay, so this has
- 14:18proven the point. This has proven the point.
- 14:20What if all three of us heard a different phrase
- 14:24being stated then? And just, the more we talk
- 14:27about it, one of us, probably me, said, I'm here
- 14:30in a prism, and we all, like, in hindsight, because
- 14:34there's no documentation of this, was like, yeah,
- 14:36that's totally what it said. What if I was wrong?
- 14:39Well, because, I mean, to me, Like, it makes
- 14:42sense that we didn't really hear all the same
- 14:44thing. Because, like, you said, it sounded digital.
- 14:50And to me, that's like, whenever we're listening
- 14:53to the spirit box out loud, it sounds, you know,
- 14:58distorted. And sometimes when we hear something,
- 15:02we all interpret it differently. So, like, that's
- 15:06how I felt about it. I felt that... we all heard
- 15:11I'm here as clear as day. Yeah. And there was
- 15:15something afterwards that none of us could really
- 15:19make out. And this is the first time I'm learning
- 15:21that Ben, you, you said that like the prism or
- 15:26in the prism or something, whatever, it's the
- 15:28clearest part that you remember. I don't remember
- 15:32that part at all. I don't even remember you saying
- 15:34that in the moment. Like when we all ran out
- 15:37to like, talk to becca about it like we were
- 15:40all like did you announce yourself did you say
- 15:43i'm here did you like call on an intercom or
- 15:45something like because we all heard i'm here
- 15:49and then after the fact now like when we recorded
- 15:53that episode you're like yeah oh i heard in the
- 15:57prism and it's like where did this come from
- 15:59i don't remember this we need to write this stuff
- 16:03down so the first time you need my journal The
- 16:08first film we did after the web series, which
- 16:12was like 200 episodes, and we capped it off with
- 16:14this short film, it kind of focused on this one
- 16:18moment. Neither of you were there for this initial
- 16:20investigation, but you went back later. At Roseburg
- 16:24Park, the most haunted place we've been, there
- 16:27was this moment during this random investigation
- 16:30that wasn't even supposed to happen. We just
- 16:32found a random place because the investigation
- 16:34got canceled. Ended up going back many times
- 16:39with both of you. But during that initial investigation,
- 16:42three things happened at the same time. And of
- 16:47the four people present, none of us experienced
- 16:50the same combination of the three things. I heard
- 16:54a gunshot. Two other people did not hear that
- 16:58gunshot. One other person did. The other person
- 17:02heard the gunshot. Also saw... something, so
- 17:08traumatic that they blacked it out of their mind.
- 17:11They said initially, I saw something, but to
- 17:14this day, if you ask them about it, they can't
- 17:16recall, and they don't even say, I didn't see
- 17:18anything, what are you talking about? And then
- 17:20they got pushed, and I barely caught it on camera,
- 17:24whipping around after running, hearing gunshots,
- 17:26them getting pushed to the ground by an unseen
- 17:29force, and then they had scratches up and down
- 17:31their arm. That person quit investigating for
- 17:34good after that. It was that intense for them.
- 17:38The two other people present, neither of them
- 17:40heard the gunshot like the two of us did. But
- 17:42they saw a face hovering above the person right
- 17:46before they got thrown to the ground. And I,
- 17:49in the moment, this is only like the fourth or
- 17:52fifth investigation or something stupid like
- 17:54that that I ever did. But I had the foresight
- 17:57to say, because they said, I saw something. And
- 17:59I said, stop right there. You said something.
- 18:02Separate and draw, because they're both like
- 18:04artists. Separate and draw. what you saw and
- 18:06they both decided to draw a face and the same
- 18:08exact face so we need to start doing that more
- 18:12of if we hear something we just need to write
- 18:16it down write it down stop write it down compare
- 18:19notes then don't look at it like lauren said
- 18:22and a month later on this podcast or something
- 18:25we'll come together and discuss it and see if
- 18:28our individual recollections match up with each
- 18:31other and our own written account from the moment
- 18:35I like this idea. I like this a lot. Did that
- 18:40even cross your mind when she was talking I'm
- 18:42here in the prism stuff? Where did your mind
- 18:44go, Brie? It didn't really go to any specific
- 18:52instance for me, unfortunately. It was just interesting
- 18:58because I hadn't really heard anything like that
- 19:02before. Yeah. Did it give you a chill? It kind
- 19:08of... It didn't give me a chill, but it gave
- 19:10me like a... It kind of scrambled my brain a
- 19:16little bit. It gave me a chill, yeah. I know.
- 19:22I just don't understand how it was possible.
- 19:26Something so clear, like it was in the room with
- 19:29us. Yeah. i mean the one person who was investigating
- 19:34with us didn't even believe anything happened
- 19:36yeah there was another person in the room that
- 19:38didn't hear anything at all no i don't think
- 19:41they they didn't hear anything they were just
- 19:43like that wasn't anything like they didn't hear
- 19:46words they didn't they're just like that was
- 19:48just like a radio going off or something like
- 19:51that wasn't yeah that didn't happen like that
- 19:54that wasn't anything paranormal Yeah, they're
- 19:56just sitting in the room reading a book and you're
- 19:58like, oh, that was just a radio. That was just
- 20:00your phone. This was the most like prominent
- 20:02action we've had like since being here. And they're
- 20:11like, no, it didn't happen. Like it happened,
- 20:14but that wasn't normal. Nothing like exciting
- 20:17or prominent. Yeah. And that's Madison Seminary.
- 20:22Every time we've investigated it like three and
- 20:25a half times. Every time something insane happens,
- 20:28like, because that will stick with us for the
- 20:31entirety of our investigating. The stuff I filmed
- 20:35in an experience in a residence chamber was certainly
- 20:40one of the most impactful moments investigating.
- 20:43That was the stuff that happened. Watch the film,
- 20:46Remote Contact. It's all in there. I don't want
- 20:49to spoil. I have to be diligent about this stuff
- 20:53to get people to watch it. Like I said in the
- 20:56last episode, if you listen to an hour of us
- 20:59rambling about dumb shit on here, you can really
- 21:02muster up the time to watch a 40 minute film.
- 21:06It's not that deep. There's not that many cheese
- 21:11layers. Not going to get lost in the sauce. It's
- 21:19a straightforward film. Yes. Surprisingly straightforward.
- 21:24Straightforward, but leaves a lot of room for
- 21:27wonder and experimentation. It still gets woo
- 21:31-woo, but not in the woo -woo way you'd expect.
- 21:36Not our normal woo -woo. Not normal woo -woo.
- 21:39I feel like meditation isn't that woo -woo anymore.
- 21:42No, a lot of people do it. Okay, so this will
- 21:45probably be a shorter one. It's just like a bonus
- 21:46episode. I don't know. Final thoughts. I, when
- 21:51I interviewed Lauren and that came up, I don't
- 21:54even know how it came up, but we're just in the
- 21:56flow. You know, unlike this podcast, we're in
- 21:58the flow. And it's when I talk to everyone else
- 22:00that we have a flow. When I talk to you hooligans,
- 22:03there's a. We hooligans. There's no flow to be
- 22:07found, but yeah, I was like this. If. if a different
- 22:15film a different version of remote contact is
- 22:17out there in another dimension where we have
- 22:20this clip in there then it goes into like this
- 22:22little like five minute like little black and
- 22:24white vignette where we reflect on previous experiences
- 22:27at madison seminary in black and white with like
- 22:30contemplative music and then this poem comes
- 22:32on screen and then like we're like is this even
- 22:37arm the memories can the memories even be trusted
- 22:40is this even how we remembered um but none of
- 22:45our memories are real let's just say that i'd
- 22:49be really curious like next time we're doing
- 22:51an investigation somewhere something really crazy
- 22:54happens taking out our journal we're all we're
- 22:58writing our own um thoughts our own opinions
- 23:02about what happened and look at it three days
- 23:05later yep be if it's the same for each of us
- 23:09and when we do look at it we'll do it through
- 23:12a paranormal lens yes you're on the podcast hence
- 23:18the title normal lens let's just cut to the outro
- 23:21thanks for listening to this week's episode of
- 23:26paranormal lens if you liked what you heard every
- 23:29five star rating and positive review tells the
- 23:32algorithms we're a worthy podcast and pushes
