- 0:01There is considerable confusion between the concept of occultism
- 0:06and the idea of the practice of magic.
- 0:09Whether considered white magic or black magic, Occultism
- 0:14essentially is the science of dealing with forces subliminal
- 0:18to our outer senses, but nevertheless active and acting
- 0:22upon our being on the material plane.
- 0:27Electricity is essentially an occult force, working unseen but
- 0:32having palpable results of its action.
- 0:36Those who learn how to generate, channel, and put electricity to
- 0:40work are essentially practicing occultism on the material plane.
- 0:46Similarly, there are forces that act on the vital or mental
- 0:50planes, or even on the spiritual planes that, while unobserved by
- 0:56our external senses, nevertheless have their impact,
- 1:00follow their own laws of development of action, and can
- 1:04be studied, harnessed and utilized by those who take up
- 1:09the study of occultism. Magic, on the other hand, is
- 1:14essentially a cookbook of processes that are developed
- 1:18using various words, gestures, symbols and prescribed actions
- 1:24designed to invoke a particular energy or perhaps a vital being
- 1:30to accomplish some fixed task set by the practitioner of
- 1:34magic, the Mother writes. Quote.
- 1:39You must not mix up magic with occultism.
- 1:42Occultism is a science and it is the knowledge of invisible
- 1:46forces and the capacity to handle them, as one has the
- 1:51capacity of handling material forces if one has studied them
- 1:56scientifically. Magic.
- 1:59These are different kinds of processes which were fixed
- 2:02probably by people who had a certain knowledge and still more
- 2:07a certain power of vital formation.
- 2:10These things can be learned without having any special
- 2:13capacity. That is, someone who has no
- 2:16inner power can learn this as he learns chemistry, for example,
- 2:20or mathematics. It is one of the things which
- 2:25are learned like that. It is not a thing one acquires,
- 2:29so it doesn't itself carry any special virtues except the same
- 2:34kind of qualities as those one learns through chemical
- 2:38manipulations. You may reproduce these
- 2:41manipulations, but if you are an intelligent and capable being,
- 2:47you can, by the help of these manipulations, obtain an
- 2:50interesting and useful result and in any case be sheltered
- 2:54from all danger, whereas if you are an idiot, misfortunes may
- 2:59come to you. It is something similar with the
- 3:04help of magical formulas. One may produce a certain
- 3:07result, but this result is necessarily limited and has no
- 3:12particular interest for those who, through their inner
- 3:15development, spontaneously receive powers of which they
- 3:19have a higher knowledge, not a mechanical one.
- 3:23It is not for someone who is truly a Yogi.
- 3:27It has no interest except that of curiosity.
- 3:30It is interesting only for people who are precisely not
- 3:33yogis and who want to have certain powers which in fact
- 3:38they have in a very limited way. It is always limited.
- 3:43What is special about it is that it has a direct action upon
- 3:46matter, while usually, apart from some rare exceptions, with
- 3:52people who have spiritual powers, yogic powers, it acts
- 3:56through the intermediary of the mental forces, usually either
- 4:00spiritual or mental forces, sometimes of the vital forces,
- 4:05more rarely, but not directly upon matter, except naturally
- 4:09with those who have done yoga in matter.
- 4:12But these are exceptional cases of which one doesn't speak.
- 4:17These things put into motion certain small entities which are
- 4:21usually the result of the decomposition of human beings,
- 4:25and yet have a sufficient contact with the material world
- 4:29to be able to act there. But anyhow, if the action is of
- 4:34a lower order, the power is of a lower order, and it is something
- 4:39almost repugnant for one who is truly in relation with the
- 4:43higher forces. End Quote Reference Sri
