- 0:51Speaker 1: A welcome this week's show. I'm back. Yes, I had
- 1:03to take a couple of weeks off. I know some
- 1:06of you have missed me, because amazingly enough people have
- 1:10actually messaged me to ask when I'm going to do
- 1:12another episode, which is nice. I really appreciate that. It's
- 1:18been a little crazy around here. I've been working on
- 1:22a new book and it's for a publisher, and publishers
- 1:26imposed deadlines, of course, and so I've had to devote
- 1:30quite a bit of time to writing recently. And then
- 1:35of course I mentioned probably last time we spoke that
- 1:39I had broken a tooth and had gotten infected and
- 1:42was taken antibiotics to get that straightened out. Well, it
- 1:48being you know, fourth of July, happens to land in July,
- 1:52and a lot of holidays and things, I've had trouble
- 1:55getting that thing scheduled. So I've had days when, like
- 2:00you know, infection goes away, comes back, goes away, comes back.
- 2:03Finally started treating it myself with oil of oregano, and
- 2:07that's helped a lot. But you know, there was a
- 2:09good week there where I just did not have a
- 2:11voice that was fit for for podcasting. But God willing
- 2:16I'm gonna get this tooth pulled and or cut out.
- 2:19There's actually not enough to pull on because it's completely gone,
- 2:21and I'll be able to get back on back on track. Here,
- 2:25we'll see. Actually, my dental surgeon said that next Thursday
- 2:30he thinks he can remove it. He's actually moved the
- 2:32appointment up from sometime mid August. Believe it or not.
- 2:37He said, you know, you need that thing out. This
- 2:40is just going on too long. He's having trouble with
- 2:42his uh the clinic he works for scheduling. He's he
- 2:46wanted to take it out immediately, and they're like, no,
- 2:49you got to go through this. You got to go
- 2:50through that. We got all this paperwork, we got all
- 2:52this blood, blood tests have to be done, we need
- 2:56all these X rays. And he's like, look, you know,
- 2:58this guy's got to have this tooth out of his
- 3:00mouth before he gets some infection that gets really serious. Yeah.
- 3:04So apparently they're finally listening to him and he's going
- 3:09to take the care of that. So say a prayer
- 3:11for me, if you would. Oh, so much has happened
- 3:13during the past few weeks. I think I mentioned before
- 3:19I took my little break that I was back on YouTube,
- 3:23and I've gotten all the uncensored Catholic podcasts up on
- 3:27YouTube now, plus on my Southern Appalachian herb podcasts and
- 3:33my herbal Medicine one oh one video course that I
- 3:36recorded about three years ago. So that's all. I almost
- 3:43almost got the entire thing up on YouTube. I've been
- 3:46adding about two videos a week. I don't want to
- 3:48overwhelm people, and I'm going to start doing a new
- 3:51series on that. I got a lot of plans. Actually,
- 3:55I'm getting fairly close to being monetized on YouTube in
- 4:00terms of subscribers, in terms of hours viewed, I am
- 4:03still way away. I mean, it's amazing. Subscribers are coming
- 4:08on pretty quickly, but I need a lot more hours
- 4:11viewed before I can actually start making a few bucks
- 4:14on YouTube. So I'm going to ask you please pass well.
- 4:19If you haven't already, please go to YouTube and watch
- 4:23my videos or listen to my podcast on there. Help
- 4:27me get some hours viewed. Subscribe if you haven't subscribed,
- 4:30but pass it on. Share it with friends, family, loved ones.
- 4:33Please help me grow the audience, because you know, the
- 4:36more hours viewed which are free to you, you know
- 4:40it don't cost you a thing to watch. YouTube puts
- 4:43me to word that monetization I've actually got to get.
- 4:47I don't even remember. Was it four thousand hours viewed
- 4:53before I can monetize the channel and something like a
- 4:56thousand subscribers. I'm almost I'm almost up to five hundred subscribers,
- 5:02so that's coming along pretty well. But I'm still sitting
- 5:04there at like less than four hundred hours viewed. You know,
- 5:08people are like, this is great content, this is wonderful,
- 5:11and I'm like, gosh, I wish you'd just you know,
- 5:14watch it all the way to the end or share
- 5:16it with a couple of friends. That would really help
- 5:18me out a lot. That would really help me out
- 5:20a lot more. If I could start generating a little
- 5:24revenue off of YouTube, it gives me more time to
- 5:27do podcasts like this. It gives me more time to
- 5:29do new videos I want to start. I want to
- 5:32do continue the herbal Medicine one O one series. I
- 5:35also want to teach people, you know, like primitive skills,
- 5:38a lot of foraging. We'll start with foraging, but you know,
- 5:41going out and like you know, making fire with anything
- 5:47from a pharaoh rod to a bow, drill to a
- 5:50resnel wins. I mean, you know, primitive camping, fishing and
- 5:56survival type stuff. Cooking. I want to do some you know,
- 6:00I do a lot of cooking, and I got I
- 6:02guess two cookbooks published, another one in the mind. It's
- 6:06not in the workshet, but it's going to be coming along.
- 6:08So from herbs to foraging, to cooking, to living off
- 6:12the land, gardening and homesteading, wood carving. A lot of
- 6:16people said, you know you carve beautiful spoons. Can you
- 6:18show me how to do it? Well, yeah, I probably can,
- 6:21but I have to have time to do that. So
- 6:24if you can help me out where the audience really
- 6:26appreciate it. And if you haven't subscribed yet, please subscribe. Also,
- 6:29got you know I'm doing guitar mandolin videos on there.
- 6:33That's something I knew. I started since, I know, since
- 6:35the last time I spoke with you. I started doing
- 6:37mandolin videos. If you ever want to learn how to
- 6:40play the mandolin, I break it down step by step,
- 6:42so simple, and we're starting out with just some simple
- 6:46blues tunes, same stuff I've been doing on the guitar,
- 6:50and you learn that, and you can learn any genre
- 6:53of music So if you know anyone that has ever
- 6:56expressed an interest in wanting to learn and play the
- 6:58mandolin for you, free lessons. Free lessons from a guy
- 7:01used to be a professional musician to so extent. I mean,
- 7:05I was never a big name, but I played with
- 7:06a lot of pretty famous people. Actually, So that's that's good.
- 7:12That's what I've been doing. Of course, we've had some
- 7:15serious storms, tropical storms, flash floods and all that, so
- 7:20that's been another thing to add to the list that's
- 7:22been fun. But the other thing that is kind of interesting.
- 7:26I wanted to share this with you about well, it
- 7:30was actually July four, July four, I got an email
- 7:34from a new social media platform. Now I am not
- 7:37going to mention the name of said social media platform
- 7:40because I did not tell them that our communication would
- 7:44be public. I haven't asked permission, not that I would
- 7:47need it, but I don't like to betray a confidence.
- 7:52When someone tells me something, I do my best not
- 7:55to repeat it. Okay, I think you know, Father Spiago
- 7:59had a whole chapter on that when we were going
- 8:01through the Catechism about how you know, keep confidences, confidences,
- 8:05don't tell everybody's business around town. So I try to
- 8:08do that. I don't want to slander or gossip or anything,
- 8:11but this is true. It they said they were a
- 8:15new Christian social media platform, and as a Christian podcaster,
- 8:20they wanted me on board. So it's going to be
- 8:22an alternative to Twitter, it's going to be an alternative Facebook,
- 8:26it's going to be all that. And I said, okay,
- 8:29that's cool. You know, it's gonna be actumenical. They're going
- 8:32to have people in there from all denominations. Yeah, I'll
- 8:34sign up. I'll look into that. Well, they also wanted
- 8:38me to allow them to market my podcast, okay, and
- 8:44it was actually a pretty big opportunity. I'm not going
- 8:46to tell you the full name of it. That has
- 8:48the name Acts in it, like Acts the Book of
- 8:50the Bible, right, I'm not sure they ever actually read
- 8:53the Book of Acts because uh yeah, we'll get into
- 8:59that in just sec So anyway, it would have been
- 9:01a big opportunity. It probably would have taken my Catholic
- 9:04podcast to well, they said, millions of people all around
- 9:08the world. It couldn't have been a lot of money,
- 9:11could have been a big career move, big boost in
- 9:14the profile. And I thought, well, this is you know,
- 9:16this is cool. I'll look into it and pray about it.
- 9:19Let's see how this goes well. In order to become
- 9:23a podcast on their platform, you had to check all
- 9:27these boxes, you know, and it's them. That's fine. They
- 9:30want to make sure that Christians are actually the people
- 9:33on there are in a line with their Christian doctrine. Well,
- 9:37I kind of had a feeling it was a Protestant
- 9:38platform to start with because I was like one of
- 9:42the only Catholics on there, and they had groups for
- 9:45you know, like Baptists and Lotherds and all this, and
- 9:47they didn't have any Catholic groups. So I established a
- 9:50Catholic group and like one person signed up for it
- 9:53who was actually Catholic. I think that probably the only
- 9:57other Catholic on the entire social media a platform signed
- 10:01up for it. So I started going through it, and
- 10:03it's their statement, you know, on you're not supposed to cuss. Okay,
- 10:07I can do that, no problem. I don't really cuss
- 10:09in the first place. If you do a video podcast,
- 10:12they want you to be well dressed and nothing, no newdy, nothing,
- 10:16you know, anything like sure, okay, that's no problem. Yeah,
- 10:20they said you know, they want their team to represent them. Well,
- 10:25you're not supposed to do anything immoral and that gets
- 10:29in the press. That's going to make them look bad. Okay,
- 10:31no problem. I got that they believe in the sanctity
- 10:33of life. Great, we're totally percent on, one hundred percent
- 10:36on board on that. They oppose gay marriage. Great, we're
- 10:39one hundred percent on board on that. I noticed they
- 10:41didn't mention divorce. They're they're against adultry, they're against gay
- 10:45marriage and all that, but not divorce. Okay, something and yeah,
- 10:49this is probably protest of platform. So I'm going but
- 10:51everything's pretty cool, you know, I'm not seeing any major
- 10:54red flags. And then we get down to the final
- 10:59paragraph and they wanted me to confirm that the Bible
- 11:06alone was the only authority on matters of faith moral doctrine. WHOA.
- 11:12Then they said that they, the company running this site,
- 11:18was the ultimate authority on interpreting scripture. Yeah, so every
- 11:28single person of every denomination that is going to be
- 11:33a participant in their they call it creators platform has
- 11:39to say one that the Bible alone is the sole
- 11:41authority and that them, the owner of the company, and
- 11:44their staff are the only authority essentially on earth able
- 11:50to interpret the Bible and tell you what it means. Wow. Okay,
- 11:57So and that was supposed to be a legal binding statement.
- 12:01I actually had to you know, official signature, a legal name,
- 12:05swear and attest to it. And I went back to him,
- 12:08I said, you know, I think this is great. It
- 12:11sounds like a great idea. But you know, as a Catholic,
- 12:13I can't sign this. And they come back to me
- 12:16why not, I said, well, because that would be essentially
- 12:21to renounce my Catholic faith. We do not believe in
- 12:26the Bible, those soul authority. First of all, we believe
- 12:29in the Bible, with the union of you know, the Magisterium,
- 12:32the unwritten in the Bible, extra biblical I, as you
- 12:38would say, the words of the apostles, as actually given
- 12:41to those that they taught, the oral tradition of the
- 12:43Church that began to be written down by the early
- 12:46church fathers, essentially beginning beginning with I guess what the
- 12:49third or fourth pope, Pope, Saint Pope Saint Clement. Let
- 12:55me think you know, in Mass they started naming the
- 12:58Peter Linus Cletus Clement. Is that right? I think? So?
- 13:02I'm thinking it's the fourth pope. He was actually ordained
- 13:05by Saint Peter, So you know, that was the time
- 13:07of martyrdom. A lot of popes didn't make it more
- 13:10than a year or two, and so by at least
- 13:16AD they were writing down pretty profusely. I mean Clement,
- 13:22what Polycarp, Yeah, a lot of them, well, either Saint
- 13:29Barnabas or one of his students, who of course is
- 13:32mentioned in the Bible as being Saint Paul's companion. They
- 13:36were writing down exactly what they learned from the apostles themselves,
- 13:41and that forms the basis of really so much of
- 13:44our doctrine. I mean, monogamous marriage is not spelled out
- 13:49in the Bible. It comes from the early Church fathers.
- 13:53The Doctor of the Trinity is not explained it in
- 13:56the least in the Bible. It comes from the early
- 13:59church fathers. I could go on and on church on Sunday. Again,
- 14:03not explained in the Bible. It comes from the early
- 14:05church fathers. And I tried to explain this, and I said,
- 14:09and then there's also another issue. We use two different Bibles.
- 14:14And I explained to him how it took so many
- 14:17years for Saint Jerome to translate all the books of
- 14:20the Bible into Latin. The Council of Nicea gave guidance
- 14:24the same where we get the nice and Creed gave
- 14:27guidance as to which books would go into the canon
- 14:29of Christian scripture, the real Bible, and it was not
- 14:34formalized until you know, several years after that, decades after that,
- 14:39and then a long time. I mean, and we've got
- 14:42you know, the one Christian Bible for a good thousand
- 14:45years plus that everybody's using except for you know, the
- 14:50heretical sex like the Gnostics and Aarians and all that
- 14:55which you know, Nicia condemned and all that who came
- 14:59up with false copy of the Bible that you know
- 15:01had to be condemned. The Church said, these aren't real Bibles.
- 15:04And for you know, many years we had the Biblios
- 15:06sacraville God, or the Nicean Bible as it was often
- 15:10referred to, even though the Council, when I see you
- 15:12just gave guidance anyway, Saint Jerome's work essentially and the
- 15:16Church approved Bible. Then Martin Luther comes up about a
- 15:19thousand years ago, changes the words of Jesus to fit
- 15:22his false doctrine cuts out books that disagree. And I say,
- 15:26and I said to him, you know, look, as a Catholic,
- 15:28I'm going to talk about prayers for the dead impurgatory,
- 15:32and I'm going to cite a biblical reference. I'm going
- 15:35to go to the Book of Maccabees. How are you,
- 15:39as a Protestant, supposed to use your Bible that have
- 15:43the Book of Maccabees to tell me whether my doctrine's
- 15:46true or not. I mean, that was one example, another
- 15:50intercession of angels. And I said, tobe it. And then
- 15:53I said, and then even when it comes to your Bible,
- 15:57you know, Catholics believe in the real presence of of Jesus,
- 16:00and the Eucharists you deny it. We believe that marriage
- 16:05is indissoluble, and we don't believe in divorce. Every Protestant
- 16:08nomination believes in divorce. How are you and who gave
- 16:11you this authority in the first place? And you know,
- 16:15basically I was very polite. I said, look, I'm very acumenical.
- 16:18If we can sign a statement saying we, you know,
- 16:21agree to different to disagree on the on topics that
- 16:25differ between our denominations, I'm fine with that. You let
- 16:28me give real Catholic teaching on my podcast, and you
- 16:33teach you know, your denomination on your podcast. And we
- 16:37agree where we can, and we don't agree. We disagree
- 16:40on other things. We don't need to argue about it.
- 16:42We understand that these two denominations, or my denomination versus
- 16:46your fifty thousand denominations, all of which disagree with each other, disagree.
- 16:52And I said, and besides, you know, Orthodox folks are
- 16:57going to have are not going to be assigned this either.
- 16:59Traditional Anglicans that have their Articles of Faith are not
- 17:02going to be able to sign your document. And I said,
- 17:05but you know, really that's a really small percentage of
- 17:07the population. Most of the Christians in the world are Catholic.
- 17:11So if you'll work with me, I'll help you reach
- 17:15billions of Catholics in this world. And they said, no,
- 17:19you know, you can't be part of our platform. So
- 17:23you know, I was talking with Steve Cunningham and I
- 17:26was telling him about this, and I said, I said,
- 17:28you know, we're both from the Carolina's. He's from Calpin's,
- 17:32South Carolina originally, and now you losen I think Belmont
- 17:35near Charlotte, North Carolina. You know, my family's been in
- 17:39North South Carolina for centuries. When our ancestors first came here,
- 17:44in order to own property and vote, you had to
- 17:46assign what was called the oath. The oath was swearing
- 17:50allegiance essentially to the British government and renouncing Catholicism. And
- 17:56I said to him, the oath is still alive and
- 17:58well in social media, and I summarized it basically like
- 18:02I have for you. And he says, it's nuts. It's
- 18:04just nuts. He said. They reject the pope as the
- 18:10one who has authority to dictate doctrine and even give,
- 18:15you know, excommunicate people. But Protestants do not hesitate to
- 18:19declare who's Christian who's not. Essentially every Protestant is his
- 18:24own pope. I mean he didn't say this, but I'm
- 18:26extrapolating on it, saying this is what's true doctrine. And
- 18:30I reject you as a Christian. You're not a real
- 18:32Christian because you don't agree with me. And isn't that
- 18:36amazing the way they the very thing they protest about
- 18:41a protest against essentially the papacy, they make themselves their
- 18:46own pope, and no wonder they all disagree with each other,
- 18:49no one of their fifty thousand denominations. But in his words,
- 18:53they think they're the gatekeepers of who's Christian and not.
- 18:57I'm telling you, y'all, I mean that blew my mind,
- 19:04honestly blew my mind that people would still one, that
- 19:09they would be so presumptuous, but people would still be
- 19:12so ignorant. I guess it shouldn't you know. I went
- 19:14to a southern Babtage University, which that's exactly what they
- 19:17were teaching when I which is basically why they asked
- 19:21me to leave the school. When I became Catholic, I
- 19:23was no longer one of them, and they didn't think
- 19:25I was a real Christian. But you know, you're given
- 19:29so many opportunities in life, and this really is the
- 19:32temptation of Satan, if you will. Yeah, I could have essentially,
- 19:38I could have lied by checking that box or renounced
- 19:42my faith by checking that box and made a lot
- 19:46of money and probably become very famous, probably become one
- 19:49of those people you see on TV commenting about you know,
- 19:53social and cultural religious issues. And I said, no, no,
- 19:56it's not worth it. And I didn't even have to
- 19:59think about it, but very little has changed in in
- 20:04you know, five hundred and some years. I think of
- 20:07Saint Thomas Moore. He had been one of the well
- 20:12He was considered to be the best attorney in England,
- 20:15and he was also a theologian, and he was a
- 20:17counselor to the king, and he was one of the
- 20:19most powerful men in England. And because he would not
- 20:22approve of King Henry the Yight's divorce and would not
- 20:25renounce Catholicism, he was imprisoned and beheaded. And his nephew
- 20:30comes to visit, and this is I think this comes
- 20:32from a man from all seasons. I don't know if
- 20:34this really happened. It probably did, you know, it's a
- 20:36fictionalized account. But anyway, he comes to him and says, uncle,
- 20:42you know, all you have to do is give approval
- 20:46to the king's divorce and acknowledge his authority as the
- 20:50religious ruler of England. And basically you don't have to
- 20:53believe it, you just have to say it. And he said,
- 20:58you know, he couldn't do that, said uncle, why are
- 21:01you in there? It's so easy, And he looks at
- 21:04his nephew and says, the question is not why I
- 21:06am in here, it's why are you out there? And
- 21:13you know, for me, it was just that easy to
- 21:14walk away from it. Not the first time I've had
- 21:16to do that. I have several jobs and opportunities I've
- 21:20missed out on because I wasn't because I'm admitted open
- 21:24Catholic and because they were Protestant or they were Freemasons
- 21:29and such. Yeah, political positions, all kinds of opportunities, and
- 21:39in social life, I mean I lost most of all
- 21:41my friends really when I became Catholic. A fiance who
- 21:48originally I guess she thought she was going to win
- 21:50me over and make me convert to Catholicism, I mean
- 21:52to Presbyterianism, and I explained to her that our children
- 21:56were going to be raised Catholic. She left me. You know.
- 22:00Another time, I was very involved engaged to a girl
- 22:06from a Mormon family. She was ready to convert, she
- 22:09was one hundred percent on board. She rejected Mormonism and
- 22:13was ready to start I r RCIA classes. So basically
- 22:18her family kidnapped her. I'm serious, like a reprogramming center.
- 22:23I mean, the Mormon Church, the Olds Church is a cult.
- 22:27It is not a valid Christian religion, and they are
- 22:31they do stuff like that, they really do so anyway,
- 22:35not the first time, probably won't be the last time.
- 22:38But my only advice is it's good to be acumenical
- 22:44when we can. It's good to work with other with Protestants,
- 22:48it's good to work with Protestants, It's good to work
- 22:50with Jews. It's good to work with Muslims and Buddhists.
- 22:52When we agree on certain issues like the sanctity of life, marriage,
- 23:00you know, peace and safety for other people, mutual respect,
- 23:06we should always try to work with them where we can.
- 23:09We can never violate our core beliefs and principles. When
- 23:13someone says to you you essentially have to renounce Catholicism
- 23:17to have this job, or to marry this you know,
- 23:19beautiful woman, or to you know, whatever be accepted in
- 23:23your town or community. You just have to ask is
- 23:29it worth it? Is it worth? I mean? You know,
- 23:33remember Satan said when he tempted Jesus in the desert,
- 23:38he'd give him all the wonderful things in the world.
- 23:42You have to ask yourself every time is it really
- 23:45worth it? Is it worth? Eternity? And hell? Is it worth?
- 23:50You know? One thing on this earth that is passing away,
- 23:56that doesn't last for more than a brief instant, you
- 23:59knowing your life and really nothing in this world lasts.
- 24:04Is it worth eternity? It's not. It's just not. And yeah,
- 24:11uh so many people. I mean, you think about all
- 24:15all the you know, good Catholic kids both you know,
- 24:20of all kinds of backgrounds. But I mean we always
- 24:22think of the mafia's Italian, but you know there's I mean,
- 24:25the Irish have been involved in organized organized crime that
- 24:28you can name it right. Organized crime is pretty widespread,
- 24:33and even though even in the South what they used
- 24:37to call the good old Boy system is essentially Protestant
- 24:41version of organized crime. But you think about all the
- 24:45you know kids that grow up, they go to Catholic school,
- 24:48they have good parents, they're baptized to confirm they're fully catechized,
- 24:52and you know, they get to a certain age and
- 24:56you know, someone offers them a job and next thing
- 24:58you know, they're their mobsters, their murderers. You know what happens. Now,
- 25:06they make that compromise, they make that compromise, and they
- 25:09usually don't even realize that first compromise it's made. You know,
- 25:14it's always a slippery slope and suddenly you're in too
- 25:17deep and you can't get out. You know, I've known
- 25:22several actual mobsters. You know, you work in politics. You
- 25:28live in a resort area of the mountains where a
- 25:30lot of folks come in from New York in the
- 25:33summertime when they're ferraris and their porsches and their big
- 25:36grand homes and everything. Yeah, I've known several people, and
- 25:42a lot of them consider themselves to be Catholics and
- 25:44go to Mass. One of them actually was a major
- 25:48funder of our church. You know, they believe all the
- 25:53teachings of the Catholic Church. They got blood on their hands.
- 25:55And what are you gonna do that You got to
- 25:58before you get into, before you get too far, draw
- 26:02the line, say no, I cannot do it, I cannot
- 26:06do this, I cannot compromise. And of course that happens
- 26:09in everybody's personal life too, the temptations of the world,
- 26:14the sins that we all commit, you know, on a
- 26:17smaller level, but when it took when you're actually have
- 26:21to renounce your faith to get a job, forget it.
- 26:24Forget it. It's not worth it. It really is not worth it.
- 26:28So I guess that's got you caught up. I'll get
- 26:32a couple of questions and answers out of radio replies,
- 26:35and we'll get back to Father Spirago next week. So
- 26:39you may remember where we left off. I'm not sure
- 26:43I do. Let me check quick, okay. So the question
- 26:46asked the priest, this is very interesting and it's a
- 26:49very odd way of thinking. But I have heard people
- 26:52say this before. First of all, last week, the last
- 26:54question ask was is it doctrine that the soul of
- 26:58man is immortal? And the priest of course through yes,
- 27:00and explain why this person goes on And this is
- 27:07a very odd person, but obviously a very intelligent person's
- 27:11very misguided and someone I've encountered before may have been
- 27:16a Jehovah's witness. We had a conversation on these lines.
- 27:22But anyway, the person's second question, well as actually statement
- 27:25he posits, man has not got a soul. That's poor grammar,
- 27:29but anyway, man has not got a soul, he is
- 27:32a soul. Genesis two seven says that man became a
- 27:36living soul. That's a really odd way of looking at it.
- 27:40I mean, it's almost like denying physical reality. It's metaphysical,
- 27:46I think anyway. Anyway, they answer that does not deny
- 27:52the distinction between body and soul and man. If God
- 27:56breathed a living soul in a man's body, then man's
- 27:58body is a distinct thing, and man is rightly said
- 28:01to possess both body and a soul. To say that
- 28:04a man is a living soul is but a use
- 28:06of a figure of speech alluding to the complete thing
- 28:10by the name of its principal part. No, it wasn't.
- 28:15I'm remembering back. It wasn't Jehovah's witness. What was Mary
- 28:17Baker Eddie's thing? Christian science? I think it was a
- 28:22Christian scientist. Actually, yeah, I think it was. Yeah. Anyway, anyway,
- 28:28they go on a man saying that he intends to
- 28:30take sel for Europe does not prove that the boat
- 28:33is a sail and that it is not God a sail.
- 28:36The immortality of the soul and its distinction for the
- 28:39body are obvious in scripture. Thus we read, the souls
- 28:42of the just are in the hands of God hand
- 28:44of God. The torment of death shall not touch them.
- 28:48In the sight of the unwise, they seem to die.
- 28:50That's from the Book of wisdom. Christ said, fear not
- 28:54them that kill the body, but are not able to
- 28:56kill the soul Matthew ten twenty eight. If the body
- 28:59is soul were not separate things, one could not be
- 29:02killed without the other. Saint Paul remarks, while we are
- 29:05in the body, we are absent from the Lord second
- 29:08Corinthians five six. When he was out of the body,
- 29:11he expected to be present to the Lord. But if
- 29:13the soul is dead, it is present to no one. Again,
- 29:17he desired that the union of the body and soul
- 29:20should be dissolved in order that he might be with Christ.
- 29:23A think he declared far better Philippiums one twenty three,
- 29:26or again in Hebrews nine twenty seven. It is appointed
- 29:30and de man wants to die, and after this his judgment.
- 29:33Judgment follows death and the dead body not being able
- 29:36to give an account of itself. Then it is the
- 29:39living soul which experiences judgment. The person continues. Immortality was
- 29:44unknown to the Jews and was rejected by the Sadducees
- 29:48because it was not in the penate. Oh, I have
- 29:51trouble that word to always have. I'm sure I've never
- 29:53pronounced this right. Pitouch p E n T A T
- 29:57E U c H. They answer, the immortality of the
- 30:02soul was well known to the Jews. The Sadducees were
- 30:04a small minority who were remarkable among the Jews precisely
- 30:08because they denied it. The majority of the Jews therefore
- 30:11held it. They were well aware of the apparition of
- 30:13the soul of Samuel to Saul, and first Samuel kings,
- 30:19what is it? Kings? Twenty eight fifteen. Our Lord quoted
- 30:22the pinitouch pinetouch, I don't know against the Sadducees, proving
- 30:28the immortality from Exodus three six. I am the God
- 30:32of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob.
- 30:34And he said he is not the God of the dead,
- 30:36but the God of the living. In other words, it
- 30:39is not was their god. Fella continues. David asked what
- 30:43shall deliver? What man shall deliver his soul from the
- 30:47grave Psalms eighty nine, forty eight. And they answer, this
- 30:51verse means that no one can avoid death and free
- 30:53his soul from the necessity of being separated from the body.
- 30:57He continues, and does he not say he returneth to
- 30:59the earth, and in that day all his thoughts shall
- 31:02perish Psalms one forty six four. And they answer, when
- 31:05a man's soul departs from his body, that body returns
- 31:08to dust, and all his thoughts and schemes for this
- 31:11earthly life are over. He continues. Ecclesiastes three nineteen. Tell
- 31:16Us tells us that the death of man and beasts
- 31:20is equal, and that man hath no pre eminence over
- 31:23the beasts. And they answer, human experience does show us
- 31:26that man can no more escape death than the beasts.
- 31:29But man's condition is not the same, for his soul
- 31:32lives on still, capable of knowledge, love, happiness, and misery. Thus,
- 31:36the same book, in chapter twelve seven tells us the
- 31:41dust shall return to the earth as it was, and
- 31:43the spirit shall return to the God who gave it.
- 31:46The fate of the soul differs from the body. Let's see,
- 31:49I'll get maybe two, maybe three more questions. This guy
- 31:53goes on for a bit. Let's see, we can try
- 31:56to wrap it up though on this topic, he says,
- 31:58But in nine five we read the dead know not anything,
- 32:02neither have they any moral reward, for the memory of
- 32:05them is forgotten, and the presnswer those last words obviously
- 32:09show that it is useless to depend upon a reward
- 32:12as far as a recognition by fellow men is concerned.
- 32:15The writers speaking from the point of view of people
- 32:18still living in this world to all practical purposes. As
- 32:21far as this world is concerned, the dead are removed
- 32:23from this world and know not anything as far as
- 32:26the evidence of our own senses goes. But that the
- 32:29soul has passed beyond the conditions of life as we
- 32:32know them does not prove that the souls of the
- 32:35departed are not quite conscious of their condition. In one
- 32:38Peter three nineteen, we are told that Christ preach to
- 32:42the souls of the departed. Such a proceeding implies that
- 32:46they were conscious of his doctrine. He continues, Ezekiel eighteen
- 32:53eighteen four says, the soul that sinneth it shall die,
- 32:57and they answer the word soul here does not refer
- 32:59exclusively to the immortal part of man's nature. Ezekiel's pointing
- 33:04out not only the sins of our parents, but also
- 33:07each man's own personal and individual sins deserve punishment. In
- 33:11verse twenty four, he says that if the just man
- 33:13turned from his righteousness and do evil, he shall die,
- 33:17and all his righteousness shall not be remembered, but his
- 33:20prevarications will be remembered. A thing which will matter nothing
- 33:25to the soul if it merely ceases to exist, but
- 33:28very much indeed if it still be living. And he says,
- 33:32you quoted the text, Fear not them that are able
- 33:34to kill the soul. But Christ went on to say,
- 33:37fear them who can destroy both body and soul. And
- 33:40they answer, Christ meant that we should fear God rather
- 33:43than men. Men have Men have no influence in one's
- 33:48final judgment, whatever they may do to the body. But
- 33:51God cannot only destroy the body. He can condemn the
- 33:53soul to an eternal existence, which is destruction, indeed, the
- 33:57wreckage of all one's hopes and desires. It is simply
- 34:00a living death forever. And the guy continues. Saint Paul says,
- 34:06the cross to them, indeed that perish is foolishness. But
- 34:09to them that are saved the power of God First
- 34:11Corinthians one eighteen. And they answer, all, whether good or bad, perish.
- 34:16As far as this earthly life is concerned by natural deaths,
- 34:19The cross is folly to those who are spiritually dead
- 34:22in sin. When the man commits serious sin, he drives
- 34:24God's grace out of his soul. His soul is then
- 34:28dead to a spiritual and supernatural life until he recovers
- 34:31God's grace by repentance. And he says, but Saint Paul
- 34:36tells us that Jesus alone hath immortality one Timothy six sixteen,
- 34:41And they answer. He means that through Christ alone can
- 34:44man attain to everlasting happiness. That he intends not immortality
- 34:49is such, but a happy immortality is clear from his
- 34:52immediate addition of the words dwelling in the light as
- 34:55opposed to unending darkness and eternal misery. And the person
- 35:00will stop here. He says, the doctrine of the resurrection
- 35:02of the dead denies that the soul is still living,
- 35:05and the answer it does not. It refers to the
- 35:07resurrection of the body. If a individual soul ceases to exist,
- 35:11there could be no resurrection of the same personality. The
- 35:14material body would be recalled, but another soul would have
- 35:17to be created. This would mean two successive personalities, of
- 35:21which the second would not be the first. Deny the
- 35:24immortality of the soul, and you deny any possibility that
- 35:27you or yourself will rise again, and isn't that interesting?
- 35:33So it kind of brings us back to the point
- 35:34we were talking about a minute ago, that one can
- 35:38be very knowledgeable of the Bible and get everything they
- 35:44read wrong. I mean, here's a guy who is probably
- 35:47considers himself to be a Christian. He can quote from
- 35:50the Bible extensively. He seems to have memorized great passages
- 35:55of the Bible, from the Old Testament to the New Testament,
- 35:58and somehow comes up with the exact opposite doctrine of
- 36:03that which Jesus and his apostles taught the immortality of
- 36:07the soul, that when we die, the soul lives on
- 36:11and either goes to heaven or health, and there will
- 36:15be a final resurrection of the last Day. Even though
- 36:18it specifically explains that in the Bible, somehow he reads
- 36:22the words and comes up with the exact opposite conclusion.
- 36:26That's amazing, but that's the human mind. I remember speaking
- 36:29with someone whose mother had recently passed away, and he
- 36:34was a very evangelical Baptist, did Bible studies and Sunday
- 36:41school and went all the retreats and mission trips and
- 36:44ruined big Baptists right and he had just had an
- 36:47argument because his sister told him that their mother was
- 36:49in heaven. And he said that his understanding the Bible
- 36:53and his preacher had told him that no one was
- 36:57in heaven. No one in heaven except Jesus be there
- 37:00until the end of time and you know, the end
- 37:03of the world and arm again and all that. And
- 37:06I was like, dude, you realize, you realize that what
- 37:16you're saying is one of the main reasons that you know,
- 37:21the Jews demanded that Jesus be killed because he promised
- 37:28that those who believed in him in him would go
- 37:32to heaven when they died, and that made him equal
- 37:36with God. And the Jews said that was blasphemy and
- 37:39you're dell essentially adopting the same position of those who
- 37:43killed Jesus. And I mean, that wasn't the sole reason
- 37:47why they did, but that was a big part of it, right,
- 37:50And he couldn't believe it, and I mean just railed
- 37:54at me and said that, you know, he believed that
- 37:57nobody was in heaven because the Bible told him that.
- 38:00And I'm like, what Bible are you reading? The King James,
- 38:02I'm like, dude, I mean I have got. I grew
- 38:04up on the King James. I've read the King James,
- 38:07and I started quoting him the words of Christ. And
- 38:10he wouldn't believe. He would not believe it. I said,
- 38:12what about what we said to the fief on the cross,
- 38:14This day you will be with me in heaven. This
- 38:18day you will be with me in heaven. He couldn't answer. That,
- 38:22could not answer at all. And I mean, but yeah,
- 38:28the reason we have to hold strong and true to
- 38:34the Catholic Church as the one authority on earth to
- 38:38which God gave the power to interpret scripture and teach doctrine,
- 38:45theology and morals in his name, with his authority, with
- 38:51the very authority of God, is because everybody else gets
- 38:57it so wrong. There's only one truth. There's only one truth. Therefore,
- 39:03if I say, you know today is I don't even
- 39:06know what day. This is Thursday, and you say it's Friday, Well,
- 39:12unless we're in two very different time zones, both of
- 39:14us can't be right. Okay. If I say it's day
- 39:16and you say it's night, both of us can't be right.
- 39:19If I say abortion is murder and murder is sin
- 39:23and you say abortion is not murder and not sin.
- 39:26Both of us can't be right. We can go down
- 39:28that list. Well, every single Protestant denomination differs with the other,
- 39:35and there are anywhere between forty and sixty thousand of
- 39:38them considered, depending on how you count them. And every
- 39:40single Protestant denomination disagrees with the doctrines of the Catholic Church.
- 39:46There's only one truth. Now, let's think about this. Logically,
- 39:49there was no church other than the Catholic Church until
- 39:52the Orthodox broke away. What was that around ten fifty
- 39:58ten eighty something like that, Right, there was no Christian
- 40:01Church other than the Catholic Church and the little breakoff
- 40:05schism of the Orthodox Church, which essentially still taught everything
- 40:09that the Catholic Church taught, except they wouldn't acknowledge the
- 40:13authority of the pope. And a little something called the filoquy,
- 40:15which is a really stupid objection to the Catholic doctrine
- 40:20of the Trinity as opposed to their understanding of the
- 40:22Trinity that nobody can even really explain. Okay, basically, they
- 40:27just rejected the pope, so the authority of the pope.
- 40:32There was really no other doctrine than that of the
- 40:35Christian doctrine than that of the Catholic Church until Martin
- 40:39Lutheran the Protestants in the late fourteen hundreds. So for
- 40:44almost fifteen hundred years, there's only one church, and it's
- 40:47the Catholic Church. There's only one Christian doctrine, and it's
- 40:52the Catholic doctrine. Everything else was by the universally condemned
- 40:57as heresy and apostasy, whether it was the Gnostics and
- 41:00the Arians, and you know, all that only one Christian doctrine,
- 41:06only one Christian Church, only one Bible, you know, I
- 41:10mean there were other translations of the Bible that began
- 41:13to be made. I mean, what was Saint Francis to sell?
- 41:17What was he around eleven hundred? I'd have to double
- 41:20check Saint Francis to sell even in I think his
- 41:24second book talks about how, you know, there were more
- 41:27popular translations of the Bible at the time, but he
- 41:31liked the Nicean Bible and that was the authority for
- 41:34him because that's the you know, the authorized version of
- 41:36the Bible by the Catholic Church. And I see in
- 41:40Bible was you know, as I explained, Counsel and Nicia
- 41:43kind of set out parameters of this was going to
- 41:45be and within a few decades we had the Bible
- 41:48to Bilius sacra volgada, and you know, different translations were
- 41:53made of it. But he had to agree with that,
- 41:56so he was Spanish. S Francis sell is Spanish. He
- 41:59liked to he was a Spanish language Bible for ease
- 42:02of reading, but only if it agreed with the Latin Bible,
- 42:06of the Visual Bible of the Church. So in order
- 42:10to adopt the Protestant belief, you would have to believe
- 42:17that all of Christianity got it wrong from the original
- 42:22twelve Apostles on through the next fifteen centuries until Martin
- 42:29Luther came along and said, oh, you know, Jesus didn't
- 42:33really mean it, and started changing his words in the Bible,
- 42:37cutting out books of the Bible, and completely changing Christian
- 42:40doctrine to the point that he encouraged murder and adultery.
- 42:44So we can't compromise on such things as who has
- 42:51the authority to interpret scripture and define doctrine. It's the
- 42:58one institution established by Jesus his church. So anyway, y'all, well,
- 43:04try to get back on schedule. Can I try to
- 43:06do one a week here. I may have to go
- 43:07a little early next week if I'm having dental surgery
- 43:09on Thursday. We'll see how that goes. But anyway, say
- 43:14some prayers for me. Be sure to subscribe to my
