- 0:05Speaker 1: NFL Now is a production of the NFL in partnership
- 0:08Speaker 1: with I Heart Radio. It's all time. Remember what we're
- 0:12Speaker 1: here to do. The belt down, Let's get then sends
- 0:19Speaker 1: a beating launches to the end zone. Cock step On
- 0:21Speaker 1: takes touchdown, Buffalo uts go, cuts down. We bet the
- 0:29Speaker 1: done pocket fromently, He's hit, He's sat, Aaron Donald wrapping
- 0:34Speaker 1: up the goats. He is the absolute heartbeat of this offense.
- 0:40Speaker 1: Come on, man, find a way to get it. Let's go.
- 0:42Speaker 1: He's unstoppable. That guy is a superhero. You will not
- 0:46Speaker 1: see a better play than this all season. That's unbelievable, unbelievable.
- 0:58Speaker 1: Are we there yet? We're almost there. We are one
- 1:03Speaker 1: day away, finally from kick off of the nfls to
- 1:07Speaker 1: a one hundred to one hundred and third season. I mean,
- 1:12Speaker 1: Andrew Siciliano, This is Steve White. This is NFL Now
- 1:16Speaker 1: on NFL that worked from our news room in Los Angeles.
- 1:19Speaker 1: It is good to see you, sir, great tune. You
- 1:21Speaker 1: super hot outside. It's gonna be super hot in that
- 1:24Speaker 1: stadium tomorrow. And I'm talking about the game, not just
- 1:26Speaker 1: a temperature. It is a hundred degrees outside here in
- 1:29Speaker 1: l a feels like two hundred degrees. Hence I got
- 1:32Speaker 1: the number of years wrong, one three years to what
- 1:36Speaker 1: we got there. Well, however, I can't tell you this
- 1:38Speaker 1: as we're one day away. It has been two hundred
- 1:41Speaker 1: and seven days since we had a game that meant something,
- 1:47Speaker 1: the Rams and the Bengals at so far. Now we're
- 1:51Speaker 1: going to get the Rams and Bills at so far.
- 1:56Speaker 1: You know, I think sometimes it feels like it's been
- 1:59Speaker 1: an eternity and sometimes it feels like it's gone in
- 2:01Speaker 1: the blink of an eye. But here we are. You know,
- 2:03Speaker 1: I know this this week feels real. It feels like
- 2:05Speaker 1: you're getting into that game preparation. I think it's awesome because,
- 2:09Speaker 1: you know, sometimes I feel like it's the hurry up
- 2:11Speaker 1: and wait, you know, whether you're kicking off on Sunday
- 2:13Speaker 1: night or you know, my second year, we had the
- 2:15Speaker 1: Monday nights second part of the doubleheader, and you just
- 2:17Speaker 1: want to get out there and play. And so we're
- 2:19Speaker 1: excited about the challenge. And usually you know, if you're
- 2:22Speaker 1: in this game, one of the two teams has done
- 2:24Speaker 1: something pretty special the previous year. We know that has
- 2:26Speaker 1: nothing to do with it, but uh, I'm excited it
- 2:29Speaker 1: feels like it's come fast. Um, But depending upon the
- 2:32Speaker 1: type of day that you know, at the time of
- 2:33Speaker 1: day you asked me, i'd answer that differently. But I
- 2:35Speaker 1: know this, I'm excited about watching our guys compete, watching
- 2:38Speaker 1: them do the best, you know, compete to the best
- 2:40Speaker 1: of their abilities, and play with a quieted mind, and
- 2:43Speaker 1: let's go let it all hang out. I ain't a
- 2:44Speaker 1: lot of I'm not about to sit up here and
- 2:45Speaker 1: boost them up like y'all might want, like maybe other
- 2:48Speaker 1: people doing. I ain't doing that. I ain't gonna be
- 2:50Speaker 1: extra that good, you know what I mean. But we're
- 2:52Speaker 1: good too over here. So we're gonna we'll see him
- 2:55Speaker 1: on Thursday. We're gonna play football, But I I ain't
- 2:57Speaker 1: gonna see he boost nobody yet, nobody I got. I
- 3:00Speaker 1: got respect for him, but I got more respect for
- 3:02Speaker 1: the game and in the way to operare, in the
- 3:05Speaker 1: way my teammates been preparing, and I trust and belief
- 3:08Speaker 1: in each other. So I boost us up. I'll talk
- 3:11Speaker 1: about us and in our preparation, but you know they
- 3:14Speaker 1: can do that with with them over there. We're gonna
- 3:17Speaker 1: go out there Thursday, and we're gonna put our best
- 3:19Speaker 1: effort out there and you know, do what we gotta do.
- 3:22Speaker 1: I love that from Jalen Ramsey Tuesday at the RAMS
- 3:26Speaker 1: facility in Thousand Oaks. Steve, you were there for that
- 3:28Speaker 1: this morning, Good Morning Football. We did this whole thing.
- 3:31Speaker 1: They did this whole thing in New York about our
- 3:33Speaker 1: people overlooking the Rams. I don't think that's what Jalen
- 3:36Speaker 1: is saying there. But there is an edge that you
- 3:38Speaker 1: felt yesterday and absolute edge. And this is not you know,
- 3:41Speaker 1: Jalen Ramsey said it out loud, but this is walking
- 3:43Speaker 1: around the locker room and I want to take you
- 3:45Speaker 1: back to a great HBO series called The Wire, and
- 3:49Speaker 1: then you're going there and of the Wire Omar and
- 3:51Speaker 1: one of the greatest lines ever is when you come
- 3:54Speaker 1: for the King, you best not miss. That is very
- 3:57Speaker 1: much the attitude I got from the locker room with
- 3:59Speaker 1: the Rams. And I don't think Sean McVeigh or any
- 4:01Speaker 1: coach is telling everybody. Look at all this conversation with
- 4:04Speaker 1: the Bills. This is a veteran team of proud guys
- 4:08Speaker 1: and they cannot wait for the game to play. And
- 4:09Speaker 1: I was talking Bobby Wagon, He's like, sure, the beginning
- 4:12Speaker 1: of the game is going to be you know, all
- 4:13Speaker 1: the fan fair and some shocking all on the field
- 4:15Speaker 1: with this play, in that play, when things settle down
- 4:19Speaker 1: and both of these teams get squared up, that when
- 4:22Speaker 1: the real deal will come to play. We haven't seen
- 4:24Speaker 1: any of the rams key offensive pieces in the preseason.
- 4:27Speaker 1: None of the starters play for Sean McVeigh, so we
- 4:30Speaker 1: haven't yet seen how Allan Robinson is going to work
- 4:33Speaker 1: in or how the run game might adjust with two
- 4:36Speaker 1: new pieces on the offensive line. But we do know
- 4:39Speaker 1: that they are going up again against at Leslie Frasier defense.
- 4:42Speaker 1: They gave up the fewest yards in the NFL last year, Steve,
- 4:45Speaker 1: and gave up the fewest points. Yeah. Look, and it's
- 4:48Speaker 1: it's a very solid defense in the run in the
- 4:50Speaker 1: past game. And that's sewn Ve about this, And I
- 4:52Speaker 1: was like, how does someone like Leslie Frasier, who pretty
- 4:54Speaker 1: much runs the same concepts, you know, a four three front,
- 4:58Speaker 1: you know, stay on top of all the evolving offenses.
- 5:00Speaker 1: He's like, look, you know in the early downs, which
- 5:01Speaker 1: you're going to see, but he mixes up things so
- 5:04Speaker 1: beauty to Fleet. You're always in conflict, right, and that's
- 5:07Speaker 1: the big thing you want to do so. With the Rams.
- 5:10Speaker 1: You talked about not seeing a lot of their starters,
- 5:12Speaker 1: they might have a surprise element right here. Why was
- 5:14Speaker 1: he Revan Jefferson. We don't know his status. He's probably
- 5:17Speaker 1: the third wide receiver for the Rams, so second year
- 5:20Speaker 1: wide out two to at well. This is speaking to
- 5:23Speaker 1: people in the locker room yesterday for a lot of
- 5:25Speaker 1: praise throughout training camp about him. They said, he's the
- 5:29Speaker 1: guy who really is going to surprise some people. This
- 5:32Speaker 1: is the second round draft pick who didn't have a
- 5:34Speaker 1: catch last year. I'm from the show me state, that's Missouri.
- 5:37Speaker 1: I want him to show me. But he apparently has
- 5:40Speaker 1: shown the Rams a lot as to where they think
- 5:43Speaker 1: he could be again, someone who shows up on the
- 5:47Speaker 1: field Thursday night to do something for this offense under
- 5:50Speaker 1: the guides of Eric Yarb or the wide receiver coach
- 5:52Speaker 1: who might be one of the best in the NFL
- 5:54Speaker 1: at developing wide receivers. And there is a big question
- 5:57Speaker 1: here for the Rams. Let's assume for a second that
- 5:59Speaker 1: Van Jefferson isn't gonna play. We'll get the official injury
- 6:01Speaker 1: designations later today, but Jefferson has not practic this this
- 6:05Speaker 1: week and he's still recovering from that second knee surgery.
- 6:08Speaker 1: He's maybe a week potentially away to to at Well
- 6:11Speaker 1: is the deep threat, but you're not going to use
- 6:13Speaker 1: him in motion much in the run game. Ben Scrotic
- 6:16Speaker 1: a bigger wide receiver who you can use in the
- 6:19Speaker 1: run game. Are there tells depending on who the third
- 6:21Speaker 1: guy is on the field. It's a fascinating chess match
- 6:24Speaker 1: here between Sean McVeigh who's been showing nothing in the
- 6:27Speaker 1: preseason because nobody is playing, and Leslie Frasier that is
- 6:30Speaker 1: bringing back the number one defense in the NFL. We
- 6:35Speaker 1: start the show on a Wednesday with a quote from
- 6:38Speaker 1: the wire. Well, you got it all right, Let's move
- 6:41Speaker 1: on here. Get some other news from around the NFL.
- 6:43Speaker 1: Some quarterback news that Ian Rappaport had four year earlier.
- 6:46Speaker 1: Ian this here, Mike Garrett Folo is here. Happy Week
- 6:49Speaker 1: one Wednesday to both of you. That news Ian that
- 6:51Speaker 1: you had today is that in New York where it's
- 6:55Speaker 1: not gonna be Zack Wilson week one, it's gonna be
- 6:57Speaker 1: Joe Flacco. And this this may be a while. Yeah,
- 7:01Speaker 1: I expected to be a while, and really no surprise
- 7:03Speaker 1: when you think of the actual injury ease for Zach Wilson.
- 7:06Speaker 1: It's not just the meniscus tear, not just the trim
- 7:10Speaker 1: that he had that probably would have knocked him out
- 7:11Speaker 1: about three or four weeks, would have put him in
- 7:13Speaker 1: position to play Week one. This is also about the
- 7:16Speaker 1: bone bruise, and that is why you're going to see
- 7:18Speaker 1: Joe Flacco in a revenge game against his old team,
- 7:22Speaker 1: the Baltimore Ravens, the team that they wanted super Bow with,
- 7:25Speaker 1: the team that made him very, very rich with that
- 7:27Speaker 1: massive contract in the team that he has now put
- 7:30Speaker 1: in his rear view mirror because Zach Wilson had to
- 7:34Speaker 1: be office feet for several weeks, had to not just
- 7:37Speaker 1: rehab the meniscus, but make sure that the broone buse
- 7:40Speaker 1: heeled as well. He's had a couple of workouts that
- 7:42Speaker 1: were encouraging Mike, but just not quite ready to go yet,
- 7:45Speaker 1: so they say, and Robert Salis said today that is
- 7:48Speaker 1: going to be until at least Week four when we
- 7:51Speaker 1: see Joe Flacco in as the starting quarterback. Fascinating development
- 7:55Speaker 1: for the Jets that they've been hiding him in camp,
- 7:58Speaker 1: so we'll see, yes, and Soulis saying that they're going
- 8:02Speaker 1: to not put Zack Wilson on injured reserve, even though
- 8:05Speaker 1: they don't expect him to play for the first three weeks,
- 8:07Speaker 1: because they want him to get practice time while he's
- 8:10Speaker 1: working his way back. So taking the approach for the
- 8:13Speaker 1: long term while also thinking about in the short term,
- 8:16Speaker 1: how much work can he get to make sure that
- 8:18Speaker 1: he makes up for any misstime and he can hit
- 8:20Speaker 1: the ground running once he is ready to go, speaking
- 8:23Speaker 1: to hit the round running. That's why the Jets in
- 8:25Speaker 1: large part wanted Joe Flacco and the starters to play
- 8:28Speaker 1: in that preseason finale against the Jets. We were just
- 8:30Speaker 1: seeing some highlights there. There were some low lights. There
- 8:33Speaker 1: was a bad interception. It wasn't a great performance, but
- 8:35Speaker 1: nobody reading too much into that. They just wanted Flacco
- 8:38Speaker 1: and that's starting offensive line to work together and just
- 8:40Speaker 1: get a little bit of game atmosphere because they knew
- 8:43Speaker 1: that it was likely that Flacco was going to be
- 8:45Speaker 1: the guy come week one. Here we are, They're expecting
- 8:48Speaker 1: a much better performance from a veteran quarterback who looked
- 8:51Speaker 1: really sharp for the entire summer, and so we get
- 8:54Speaker 1: the Joe Flacco against Lamar Jackson game. And three games
- 8:57Speaker 1: Wilson mrs at a minimum or Baltimore, Cleveland and Cincinnati.
- 9:01Speaker 1: He could be back in, as he said, potentially for Pittsburgh.
- 9:04Speaker 1: And yes, you were hearing correctly. The Jets played the
- 9:06Speaker 1: entire a f C North the first four weeks of
- 9:10Speaker 1: this season. Strange but true. Let's get to Lamar Jackson. Mike,
- 9:14Speaker 1: you were on the game Day kickoff special last night
- 9:16Speaker 1: for the new season UM with some insight on Lamar
- 9:20Speaker 1: we're talking about He said the deadline was week one.
- 9:23Speaker 1: I mean Wednesday first practice is kind of week one.
- 9:27Speaker 1: Is today the deadline? I don't know, and I don't
- 9:30Speaker 1: know that anybody really knows. And frankly, this deadline, he
- 9:34Speaker 1: could still do it next week. It's a self imposed
- 9:36Speaker 1: deadline from Lamar Jackson. But I think the thought on
- 9:41Speaker 1: his end and maybe on the team's end when they
- 9:43Speaker 1: heard this was as long as it's done before kickoff.
- 9:46Speaker 1: Extensions usually get done this Saturday before the Sunday game,
- 9:50Speaker 1: So I think that's probably your deadline. And again, nobody's
- 9:54Speaker 1: really saying once it comes that they can't just revisit
- 9:57Speaker 1: it at some point, So we'll see how it goes.
- 9:59Speaker 1: But I did mention that that NFL Game Day kickoff
- 10:01Speaker 1: special last night you were talking about. And by the way,
- 10:04Speaker 1: speaking of NFL Game Day, I have this game Jets
- 10:07Speaker 1: Ravens for Sunday, So this is like doing a little
- 10:10Speaker 1: show prep for Sunday while also game Dropper very good.
- 10:13Speaker 1: I like that one. But listen, there's a ways to
- 10:16Speaker 1: go here. Ian's gonna follow up with some of the details. Uh. There,
- 10:19Speaker 1: there's work to be done here for Lamar Jackson to
- 10:21Speaker 1: come close to an extension with the Ravens by the deadline. Ean. Yeah,
- 10:26Speaker 1: And you know, usually Mike, if a deal is getting
- 10:28Speaker 1: done by this point, if a deal is getting done
- 10:30Speaker 1: right before this season, there'll be some momentum toward that deal.
- 10:34Speaker 1: I don't sense that at all. Not saying it can't
- 10:36Speaker 1: get down. I'm just saying right now, I don't sense
- 10:37Speaker 1: anything is imminent. I don't sense it's moving in that direction.
- 10:41Speaker 1: And this was always going to be an extremely, extremely
- 10:44Speaker 1: difficult deal to do because the Deshaun Watson contract really
- 10:48Speaker 1: changed a lot of things. Two in the thirty million
- 10:50Speaker 1: dollars fully guaranteed. The Russell Wilson contract came after that
- 10:54Speaker 1: had about a hundred and sixty five million in total guarantees,
- 10:57Speaker 1: so not the full guarantees that Deshaun got, not even close.
- 11:01Speaker 1: You know, Lamar Jackson, who's serving as his own a,
- 11:05Speaker 1: could have pushed for as much full guarantees as possible. Uh.
- 11:09Speaker 1: That is why it's going to be difficult to get done.
- 11:11Speaker 1: And if it doesn't get done this week, then what
- 11:14Speaker 1: you're looking at is several franchise tags for Lamar Jackson,
- 11:18Speaker 1: then maybe the chance to cash in as a free agent,
- 11:20Speaker 1: but that would mean he's taking a lot of risk
- 11:22Speaker 1: on himself. So anyway, pretty complicated for Lamar and the Ravens.
- 11:26Speaker 1: Complicated as we wait here for maybe some kind of
- 11:29Speaker 1: news potentially who knows all Lamar Jackson. We did have
- 11:33Speaker 1: news today, Mike. In Buffalo, Dawson Knox had made it
- 11:37Speaker 1: clear he wanted to stay there with the Bills. Um
- 11:41Speaker 1: they gave him a nice contract to do that. Dawson's
- 11:44Speaker 1: Dawson Knox's brother tragically passed away recently and the Buffalo
- 11:48Speaker 1: Bills fan base UH came and showed their support in
- 11:51Speaker 1: more ways than one to Dawson Knox. UH. And he
- 11:54Speaker 1: had said it within the last couple of days that yeah,
- 11:57Speaker 1: I want to be here for a long time. Well,
- 11:59Speaker 1: this l a four year contract fifty three point six
- 12:02Speaker 1: million dollars UH north of thirty one million in guaranteed money,
- 12:07Speaker 1: certainly makes it clear that he's going to be here
- 12:09Speaker 1: for beyond this last season of his contract. So he's
- 12:11Speaker 1: now under contract through a very popular player, a tough,
- 12:15Speaker 1: hard nosed player, a guy who threw a touchdown with
- 12:18Speaker 1: a broken hand last year. I mean, that is the
- 12:20Speaker 1: most Buffalo play I think we've ever seen. So there's
- 12:23Speaker 1: the tweet from Dawson Knox, uh saying how excited he
- 12:26Speaker 1: is to call Buffalo home for the next several years. Uh.
- 12:30Speaker 1: Just a really good story for a very popular player.
- 12:33Speaker 1: Kyle Brandt, a big Buffalo guy, said it's his favorite bill.
- 12:37Speaker 1: I think he tweeted that earlier. So there you go.
- 12:39Speaker 1: Kyle is very excited for Dawson Knox. Congratulations there to
- 12:42Speaker 1: Dawson Knox, an emotional roller coaster, speaking openly and from
- 12:45Speaker 1: the heart about his brother Luke just a couple of
- 12:46Speaker 1: days agoing than a new contract today ahead of the
- 12:50Speaker 1: Bill's opener tomorrow here in Los Angeles and Rapp Mike,
- 12:54Speaker 1: Carol Folo, thank you for Nick Shook coming up next
- 12:59Speaker 1: with some somewhat surprising selections for a Week one that
- 13:02Speaker 1: I appreciate the wood Wayne never calling me, but there's
- 13:05Speaker 1: only two men. I'm in the same Bills a fete change.
- 13:08Speaker 1: I'm for awaiting them. Every game is notable Week number one, however,
- 13:15Speaker 1: we pick some of our favorites here to squeeze onto
- 13:17Speaker 1: one screen of the six team we like the game
- 13:20Speaker 1: coming up on Thursday. How about that Baker Bowl and
- 13:23Speaker 1: then all these other games as well. I know every
- 13:26Speaker 1: week one game has amazing storylines, and there are favorites,
- 13:29Speaker 1: and there are underdogs, and how about this one. Nick
- 13:33Speaker 1: Shook is gonna be with us every week. Oh he
- 13:35Speaker 1: gets his own animation that is Nick, Did you make
- 13:39Speaker 1: that yourself? No, I don't have those after effects skills.
- 13:42Speaker 1: That's to everybody in production. Okay, Well, the Rams are
- 13:45Speaker 1: two and a half point underdogs somehow, according to Draft
- 13:48Speaker 1: Kings at home as the defending champions against Everyone's darling,
- 13:52Speaker 1: America's darling, the Buffalo Bills. What do you like about
- 13:54Speaker 1: the Rams? Well, I love the fact that they're due
- 13:57Speaker 1: for their coronation. They're ready to celebrate the fact that
- 14:00Speaker 1: they got that Super Bowl victory at home, they're back
- 14:03Speaker 1: at home, they're on prior time. It's a great way
- 14:06Speaker 1: to start the title defense of except that they're not
- 14:09Speaker 1: expected to win. And why is that? As you said,
- 14:12Speaker 1: Buffalo America's darling. But what do I love about the Rams, Well,
- 14:15Speaker 1: they got funny of firepower and not a lot of
- 14:17Speaker 1: turnover Allen Robinson, I think it's going to be a
- 14:19Speaker 1: big part of this offense. There are some concerns about
- 14:22Speaker 1: Matthew Stafford's elbow. He said it's not going to limit him,
- 14:25Speaker 1: but you know, it's kind of been the storyline of
- 14:27Speaker 1: training camp a little bit there. Having said that, this
- 14:29Speaker 1: is the first time in NFL history that we've had
- 14:32Speaker 1: two different players Josh Allen and Matthew Stafford come in
- 14:34Speaker 1: with forty plus touchdowns in the previous season and meet
- 14:37Speaker 1: up in Week one. And if I have to pick one,
- 14:40Speaker 1: I'm going to pick the team that has done the job,
- 14:43Speaker 1: that has gotten over the hump, that has won the
- 14:45Speaker 1: Super Bowl, not the team that has run into well,
- 14:48Speaker 1: they've fallen short and last couple of post seasons in
- 14:50Speaker 1: the Bills, I like this as a Super Bowl pick
- 14:52Speaker 1: as well. Yeah, I think in these kickoff games, the
- 14:54Speaker 1: defending champions like fourteen and three something like that. I'm
- 14:59Speaker 1: also with the Rams, but then again, I'm moderdly biased.
- 15:02Speaker 1: Vikings two and a half point underdogs according to draft
- 15:04Speaker 1: King against the Packers. A lot of people like the
- 15:07Speaker 1: Vikings big picture this year, Nick, what about this week?
- 15:11Speaker 1: The Vikings are a sneaky team this year. I don't
- 15:13Speaker 1: think a ton of people are paying attention to them,
- 15:15Speaker 1: and it's because they're in the Packers division, where they've
- 15:17Speaker 1: been the Packers little brother in the last few years.
- 15:20Speaker 1: But the Packers might lack a little bit of punch
- 15:22Speaker 1: this time around. We know Davantae Adams is no longer
- 15:25Speaker 1: in Green Bay. They have a pretty deep receiving corps,
- 15:28Speaker 1: but unproven and there's no defined number one. And what
- 15:31Speaker 1: do we know about these two teams? They can tend
- 15:33Speaker 1: to get into some into some shoot ups. Last year,
- 15:35Speaker 1: they got to quite a shootout in Minnesota in Week
- 15:38Speaker 1: eleven and the Vikings came out on top before they
- 15:40Speaker 1: were dominated by the Packers late years later in the season.
- 15:42Speaker 1: So I'm gonna pick the Vikings here. I like their
- 15:44Speaker 1: chances against this unproven Packers team. According to Drafting Sunday Night,
- 15:48Speaker 1: Cowboys at home a point and a half underdogs to
- 15:50Speaker 1: the Buccaneers. What do you like about the Cowboys the
- 15:53Speaker 1: home team? Well, this is a redo of last year's
- 15:56Speaker 1: season opener, an explosive performance. Sixty combined points between these
- 16:00Speaker 1: two teams. But these two teams have also suffered some
- 16:02Speaker 1: losses that we know about. The Buccaneers interior offensive line, injuries, retirement,
- 16:06Speaker 1: free agency. They have to adjust there. But they do
- 16:09Speaker 1: have Tom Brady, so they got a chance right. Well,
- 16:11Speaker 1: the Cowboys, they're starting a rookie at left tackle and
- 16:14Speaker 1: they've got a remade receiving tour. But I give them
- 16:16Speaker 1: the edge because they're at home, and they also have
- 16:19Speaker 1: enough firepower to go win. I think Tony Pollard is
- 16:21Speaker 1: going to have a great year, and I'm excited to
- 16:23Speaker 1: see what he can do with that offense. If I
- 16:25Speaker 1: have to choose between the two, I'm going the home team.
- 16:27Speaker 1: I'm going with the Cowboys to get that Week one win. Okay,
- 16:29Speaker 1: The Chargers are the home team against the Raiders on Sunday.
- 16:33Speaker 1: With the Raiders fans, it may sound like a Raiders
- 16:35Speaker 1: home game. The Raiders, they were, according to Draft kings
- 16:37Speaker 1: Nick three and a half point underdogs. Yeah. Well, you
- 16:40Speaker 1: know what, Guess who ended their chances of making the
- 16:42Speaker 1: playoffs last year? The Raiders. And guess who has matched
- 16:44Speaker 1: their offseason moves the Raiders. And guess who has Davante
- 16:47Speaker 1: Adams The Raiders. I'm gonna give them the edge in
- 16:49Speaker 1: this game. J C. Jackson not expect, not likely to play,
- 16:52Speaker 1: So I'm gonna give the Raiders the edge. I like
- 16:54Speaker 1: what they're doing with Josh McDaniels. Excited to see them
- 16:56Speaker 1: play this year. Coming up next are the Jaguars. This
- 17:00Speaker 1: year's turnaround team will ask the oldest jack War Marvin
- 17:06Speaker 1: Jones Jr. Joins us coming up next to NFL Now,
- 17:14Speaker 1: we all like to make comparisons any That's what we
- 17:17Speaker 1: do when we watch sports, when we watch anything. Doug
- 17:19Speaker 1: Peterson made a comparison recently to a former teammate as
- 17:24Speaker 1: we get ready for the Jaguars and the Commanders. He
- 17:27Speaker 1: compared Trevor Lawrence to Brett Barres. Obviously, that's a definitely
- 17:34Speaker 1: a compliment, and I'm appreciative, you know, trying to pay
- 17:37Speaker 1: too much attention to any of that, but um, I
- 17:40Speaker 1: mean that's cool to be, you know, using the same
- 17:42Speaker 1: sentences as Brett and just seeing how his career was
- 17:45Speaker 1: and how great a player he was. That's obviously um
- 17:48Speaker 1: cool thing for me. But at the end of the day,
- 17:50Speaker 1: like I gotta go, I gotta go prove it on
- 17:51Speaker 1: the field and perform. So it doesn't really change anything,
- 17:53Speaker 1: but it's definitely definitely cool to see the improvement guys
- 17:56Speaker 1: of the of the guys that were here and see
- 17:58Speaker 1: how much better that we've gotten than. Obviously the new
- 18:00Speaker 1: additions have helped a ton um and just the whole mindset.
- 18:03Speaker 1: I think the culture is really flip up, and that's
- 18:05Speaker 1: something that doesn't happen overnight. So it's taken a lot
- 18:08Speaker 1: of a lot of work by a lot of people,
- 18:09Speaker 1: and I think we're in a great spot right now
- 18:11Speaker 1: and we just gotta keep building on that. Obviously, you've
- 18:13Speaker 1: got to sustain it. And I'm just really excited to
- 18:16Speaker 1: now have an opportunity to prove it. You know, this one,
- 18:18Speaker 1: this one counts, and we're gonna, you know, have seventeen
- 18:20Speaker 1: games at least to prove who we are. Man shows
- 18:24Speaker 1: you how things have changed. We're comparing him to Brett Farve.
- 18:28Speaker 1: This guy is the front row seat for that. Marvin
- 18:30Speaker 1: Jones joining us live now on Jaguars camp as they
- 18:33Speaker 1: get ready for week number one and the Commanders. Marvin,
- 18:37Speaker 1: thanks for joining NFL Network. How are you man? Okay,
- 18:39Speaker 1: I'm doing amazing, amazing. Appreciate you. Hey, thanks for being here.
- 18:43Speaker 1: You've played with Andy Dalton, Matthew Stafford, checking down some
- 18:45Speaker 1: of the names here, a whole bunch of quarterbacks. Now
- 18:47Speaker 1: you get year two with Trevor Lawrence. Your coach has
- 18:49Speaker 1: compared him to Brett Farve. I know that's leadership here.
- 18:53Speaker 1: No one's given him a gold jacket yet, but what
- 18:55Speaker 1: do you see the difference year one to year two.
- 18:59Speaker 1: I mean, you know, it's always uh, it's always a
- 19:01Speaker 1: positive that you get the experience. You know, Um, he's
- 19:04Speaker 1: got gotten a year of experience under his belt. UM,
- 19:08Speaker 1: so you know he's seen he's seen a lot of things. Um,
- 19:11Speaker 1: you know, seen a lot of looks from um, you know,
- 19:13Speaker 1: from defensive you know, been around the locker room and um,
- 19:17Speaker 1: and really takes the grasp of that, you know. So UM, definitely,
- 19:20Speaker 1: you know, definitely he's a leader and you show that.
- 19:22Speaker 1: It shows that, um, that maturity that he has. Um,
- 19:26Speaker 1: you know, he's even killed. There's nothing that really bothers him. Um.
- 19:30Speaker 1: You know he's all about, you know, just getting better
- 19:32Speaker 1: and working. You know. So, Um, that's what you see,
- 19:34Speaker 1: and you see that confidence coming to the year two.
- 19:36Speaker 1: He was on the podium earlier this morning. You just
- 19:39Speaker 1: saw that. He he said that the everything has flipped,
- 19:43Speaker 1: the culture has flipped. Do you feel that as well? Yes,
- 19:48Speaker 1: I mean I felt that the day the day we
- 19:50Speaker 1: came the day we came in in the spring. UM. Obviously, UM,
- 19:54Speaker 1: with a coach like Doug and all the coaches that
- 19:56Speaker 1: around that has that experience, M experience at a high level. UM,
- 20:01Speaker 1: and you know, that player connection, you could feel that,
- 20:03Speaker 1: you know. So, UM, I think about even you know,
- 20:05Speaker 1: saying a word. We already had that camaraderie. I'm coming
- 20:09Speaker 1: in and UM just all about working, UM, having everything
- 20:13Speaker 1: through the same mind, seeing everything through the same eyes. UM.
- 20:16Speaker 1: So from the jump that's how it was. So. UM,
- 20:19Speaker 1: it's great. It's been great so far. Marvin. We're gonna
- 20:22Speaker 1: talk about you here too, I promised. So the coach
- 20:24Speaker 1: praised the quarterback. He also praised you. Here's what Doug
- 20:28Speaker 1: Peterson had to say about what you bring. Just a
- 20:33Speaker 1: class act, UM, a great vet in the room. Young.
- 20:37Speaker 1: There's a lot of young guys in that room. Um.
- 20:40Speaker 1: You know when you're thinking about you know, the Tim
- 20:42Speaker 1: Jones is in there and and now some of the
- 20:43Speaker 1: young practice squad players, and just he can be such
- 20:45Speaker 1: an impact on on those players on how he how
- 20:48Speaker 1: he handles his business. Um, and and just a um,
- 20:53Speaker 1: great leader with the with the entire team. You know,
- 20:55Speaker 1: it's a reason why um, you know, the players respect
- 20:58Speaker 1: him and look up to him and um because of
- 21:01Speaker 1: what he's what he's done in this league. So Marvin,
- 21:04Speaker 1: it sounds like you you haven't had to have that
- 21:06Speaker 1: man demand conversation yet with your head coach off to
- 21:09Speaker 1: the side this year about your leadership style. Huh uh No,
- 21:13Speaker 1: definitely that you know. UM, you know, I just come
- 21:16Speaker 1: in here and do the same thing I do every year,
- 21:18Speaker 1: you know, Um, and you know, showing these guys that
- 21:21Speaker 1: you could, you know, you could have success in this
- 21:23Speaker 1: league and play at a high level. Um. And still
- 21:25Speaker 1: you know, do what you have to do on and
- 21:27Speaker 1: off the field. UM. You know, you know, to protect
- 21:30Speaker 1: the Origin organization, to protect a name on your back. UM.
- 21:33Speaker 1: You know, those those values are very important. UM. So UM,
- 21:37Speaker 1: my job is not only to perform, Uh, you know
- 21:41Speaker 1: highly on the field, but to you know, bridge that
- 21:43Speaker 1: that gap that um, that gray area UM between you
- 21:47Speaker 1: know rookies or or young players, UM and get them, um,
- 21:51Speaker 1: you know, get them going, you know. And so as
- 21:54Speaker 1: much as I can do that, that's what I do. UM.
- 21:56Speaker 1: That's what I love to do. UM. And the one
- 21:58Speaker 1: thing that's that's good is I could go out there
- 22:00Speaker 1: and I could really show them, you know, just like
- 22:02Speaker 1: a watch me um and and get them help wherever
- 22:06Speaker 1: they need. So. UM. You know, take very much pride
- 22:09Speaker 1: in that you said gray area. You didn't mean gray
- 22:12Speaker 1: hair area. Your name is junior. But Marvin, you do
- 22:16Speaker 1: no great hair, plenty of great and you don't great.
- 22:20Speaker 1: To my dad, I'm saying, though, you are the oldest Jaguar.
- 22:26Speaker 1: You know that, right, Martin, Oh, yeah, definitely definitely. But
- 22:29Speaker 1: it's it's it's you know, what it gives me, what
- 22:31Speaker 1: encourages me, you know, when we're on trips and stuff
- 22:34Speaker 1: like that. They think I'm the rookie, and they think
- 22:36Speaker 1: so a lot of other people are the best, are
- 22:39Speaker 1: the thirty two year olds things. I'm doing something right
- 22:42Speaker 1: and I'm gonna keep it going. People think I'm like
- 22:45Speaker 1: thirty Actually they don't, but people are surprised. No, I
- 22:49Speaker 1: get it, and you have to. You carry yourself with
- 22:51Speaker 1: the youthful exuberants there, the smile and the head that
- 22:54Speaker 1: I like, Marvin. Um, so we dug this set. You've
- 22:58Speaker 1: heard this before about teams making the playoffs didn't make
- 23:00Speaker 1: them the year before. Right, it's been thirty two straight years, Marvin,
- 23:03Speaker 1: that at least four teams made the playoffs that didn't
- 23:07Speaker 1: make it a year before. Last year there were seven
- 23:09Speaker 1: teams that made the playoffs, and no, we expanded them
- 23:11Speaker 1: that didn't make it the year before. You guys were
- 23:14Speaker 1: too and fourteen a year ago. What will it take,
- 23:17Speaker 1: Marvin Jones Jr. For this team to have that amazing reversal. Uh,
- 23:27Speaker 1: what I think you will see is, uh, it's a
- 23:29Speaker 1: it's just changing the changing the culture and changing the
- 23:32Speaker 1: buy in. I think that's that's really been a plus
- 23:36Speaker 1: for us. Obviously adding the people that we've had. Um,
- 23:40Speaker 1: you're gonna see something that's uh, you know, totally different
- 23:42Speaker 1: from last year. Um, but you know it's it's the
- 23:45Speaker 1: start of the season. Um, we're all we're all excited,
- 23:48Speaker 1: we're all happy. Um, I mean, I'm you've seen a
- 23:50Speaker 1: little bit in the in the preseason. What we have
- 23:53Speaker 1: to offer you know as a team, um, and what
- 23:55Speaker 1: we can be and UM, I think the sky's the limit,
- 23:58Speaker 1: you know. But um, obviously this is the NFL and
- 24:01Speaker 1: and you have to earn that. You have to earn that, right.
- 24:03Speaker 1: So UM, just like like we say every day, UM,
- 24:07Speaker 1: every game, every player, you have to earn it. And
- 24:09Speaker 1: I think we will earn that and you'll you'll see, um,
- 24:12Speaker 1: you know us turn some heads because we we definitely
- 24:15Speaker 1: have a team, um that that could do, that could
- 24:17Speaker 1: do what it does. And m hey, it starts on Sunday,
- 24:20Speaker 1: So it starts on Sunday in Washington. It's only one game. Ever,
- 24:24Speaker 1: people are excited to see what you guys happen. To
- 24:26Speaker 1: quote Mike McDaniel, the Dolphins head coach about Week one,
- 24:29Speaker 1: over reactions were either crowned or we suck. Either way,
- 24:34Speaker 1: we have week two. We're focused on Week one though,
- 24:38Speaker 1: Marvin Jones exactly. Good luck man in Washington. Great to
- 24:42Speaker 1: have you on. Hey, I appreciate you coming up next.
- 24:46Speaker 1: NFL out. We're almost done, but we have time for
- 24:48Speaker 1: one more thing before you go about Baker Mayfield. Lot
- 24:58Speaker 1: of football, a lot of Football Boys fo Bull touch
- 25:05Speaker 1: down five victory Baby gets touchdown Jack put Baby, and
- 25:20Speaker 1: it is over for the Chargers. The Raiders are in
- 25:23Speaker 1: the playoff. What you do, Manna run like that? Rights
- 25:30Speaker 1: Kyler Ray, You are ridiculous. It's got by Kelsey series.
- 25:42Speaker 1: Do you have NFL Plus yet? Hopefully you do no
- 25:45Speaker 1: matter where you are, this is how you now football.
- 25:48Speaker 1: Everybody get live local, prime time regular season games, postseason
- 25:52Speaker 1: games as well on your phone, are on your tablet.
- 25:54Speaker 1: You get game replays. You get so much more. I
- 25:56Speaker 1: have it. I love it plus dot NFL dot com.
- 25:59Speaker 1: Do it now and start your seven day free trial
- 26:02Speaker 1: of NFL Plus today. It's not for one more thing
- 26:06Speaker 1: before we go. Stacy Dale's and Chicago's going first. Matt
- 26:11Speaker 1: Aberflus is already winning over Bears fans because there is
- 26:15Speaker 1: new brass men at Soldier Field. They're changing the surface.
- 26:18Speaker 1: It is a hybrid grass. I asked him today if
- 26:20Speaker 1: he is a grass expert. Somewhat deflected that notion, but
- 26:24Speaker 1: did say it's been something in the works for a
- 26:26Speaker 1: while now. They've been planning it. Faster surface should hold
- 26:29Speaker 1: up in the winter, and they want to be a
- 26:31Speaker 1: fast team. So look for a new surface soldier. I
- 26:33Speaker 1: don't know if he has a green thumber not Lucky Brooks.
- 26:35Speaker 1: One more today, I'm fascinated to see what Ken Dorsey
- 26:41Speaker 1: does in his debut as to play called for the
- 26:42Speaker 1: Buffalo Bills. There's a lot of concerns about canny keep
- 26:45Speaker 1: this offense rolling like Brian Day, ball headed rolling. I'll
- 26:48Speaker 1: go back to this early two thousand, Ken Dorson was
- 26:50Speaker 1: a quarterback of the Miami Hurricane. A lot of talent,
- 26:53Speaker 1: a route, but he somehow found a way to distribute
- 26:55Speaker 1: the ball. I think he'll see the weapons that he
- 26:57Speaker 1: has found a way to get Josh out to be
- 26:59Speaker 1: a distributive his office to keep you going. Ken Dorsey,
- 27:02Speaker 1: very good college quarterback, did not have half the r
- 27:05Speaker 1: that Josh Allen has. Baldy. One more thing, A big
- 27:10Speaker 1: shout out to the schedule makers of the NFL, as
- 27:13Speaker 1: if Week one doesn't have already incredible storylines. We get
- 27:17Speaker 1: to see Russell returned to Seattle on Monday night. We
- 27:21Speaker 1: get to see Baker Mayfield entertained his old team to
- 27:24Speaker 1: Cleveland Browns in Charlotte Sunday afternoon. But how would you
- 27:27Speaker 1: possibly know that Joe flackom could be starting for the Jets,
- 27:31Speaker 1: entertaining the Baltimore Ravens, the team he wanted Super Bowl with.
- 27:34Speaker 1: Or to see Patch Mahomes, go visit his old college coach,
- 27:38Speaker 1: Cliff Kingsbury in Glendale on Sunday afternoon. I mean, they
- 27:42Speaker 1: just create these storylines that make you want to watch
- 27:46Speaker 1: and make you want to watch. Baker, by the way
- 27:48Speaker 1: on the podium just moments ago, said of those T
- 27:50Speaker 1: shirts that he was promoting on his Twitter feed, said
- 27:53Speaker 1: he wishes he could have come up with those T shirts.
- 27:55Speaker 1: Not his idea, it's his marketing idea. They have some
- 27:57Speaker 1: hidden messages in their quote. It's just a fun thing
- 28:00Speaker 1: to do. Okay. My one more thing you knew Julio
- 28:05Speaker 1: owns wasn't gonna wear eight five in the regular season.
- 28:08Speaker 1: Julio has switched jersey numbers. She'll be wearing number six
- 28:13Speaker 1: on Sunday night. His explanation is, when I catch it,
- 28:17Speaker 1: it's six for Stacy and Baldi. I'm Andrew so long.
