- 0:04Speaker 1: NHL Unscripted is a production of the NHL and iHeart podcasts.
- 0:19Speaker 1: Yeah yeah, that's right, because we've got new music now
- 0:22Speaker 1: here in NHL Unscripted. I mean, Jillian Muller is just
- 0:25Speaker 1: giving feedback all over the place. She came on the pod.
- 0:27Speaker 1: She buried me for my take on Wicked. Now she'sai yay.
- 0:30Speaker 1: It's a new music, so tall listen. He gave us
- 0:32Speaker 1: ten different cuts. Me and JD went through it. I
- 0:34Speaker 1: was surprised. We agreed, but one more uptempo, funky beat here.
- 0:38Speaker 1: When it comes to Unscripted, this is gonna be an
- 0:39Speaker 1: awesome episode today once again, thanks for Jordan Martin hook.
- 0:42Speaker 1: We're gonna talk about the Marty bump and the Hurricanes
- 0:44Speaker 1: and that massive trade in just a second. Ian Haptough
- 0:46Speaker 1: is an amazing guest. JD hooked up with this today.
- 0:49Speaker 1: He is not really member of the Chicago Cubs, but
- 0:50Speaker 1: he's the perfect unscripted guest because he's interested in lots
- 0:53Speaker 1: of other things. Like me and Jason Demurz. We also
- 0:55Speaker 1: have quick hits of course, the Oscar nominations. I mean,
- 0:58Speaker 1: if I said to you, Mexican drug Lord trans musical
- 1:02Speaker 1: directed by a Frenchman, thirty Oscar nominations. Let's go. We're
- 1:06Speaker 1: getting into Amelia Perez, the best nominations, the worst nominations.
- 1:09Speaker 1: What's up to nie Ville New? What is my guy
- 1:11Speaker 1: to do? To get some respect for Donet Too? Which
- 1:13Speaker 1: was nominated for Best Picture but no Best Director? Plus
- 1:15Speaker 1: Tim Kalanowski is gonna talk to us about some sports
- 1:18Speaker 1: betting as my beloved Philadelphia Eagles are back in the
- 1:20Speaker 1: super Bowl, hopeful to get some redemption against the Chiefs.
- 1:23Speaker 2: And we just met twice and I gotta say, yeah,
- 1:27Speaker 2: your taller in person.
- 1:28Speaker 1: Your response was, I thought you were a taller. I said,
- 1:31Speaker 1: but we met once before.
- 1:32Speaker 3: You know that.
- 1:32Speaker 1: I'm sure I didn't really meet you prompertly that time.
- 1:35Speaker 1: Now I'm like, no, I.
- 1:36Speaker 2: Think it's just your personality. Just you know, it feels
- 1:40Speaker 2: like you're six ' five with your personality.
- 1:42Speaker 1: Speaking of perfect segue, Jason Demurse, I got to hang
- 1:44Speaker 1: out with Chris Pronger and just came back from Saint Louis,
- 1:47Speaker 1: and everything about that guy is big. He is larger
- 1:49Speaker 1: than life. He's tall, he's got big opinions, he's got
- 1:52Speaker 1: a big laugh, he's loud, and he was obviously an
- 1:54Speaker 1: incredible player. This is what I'm gonna throw to you first,
- 1:56Speaker 1: because I had a great little debate. This is what's
- 1:58Speaker 1: great about hockey fans, sports fans, anybody who likes to
- 2:01Speaker 1: get into a good banter. After we get to hang
- 2:03Speaker 1: with Pronger, who's I got a great He was down
- 2:05Speaker 1: to earth, he was genuine. He gave me this number.
- 2:06Speaker 1: He'll come on the podcast whatever you want. I'm talking
- 2:09Speaker 1: with Thomas Hickey, former defenseman like yourself. We got Jody Shelley,
- 2:12Speaker 1: your boy John forestlan Is called hockey thirty years. And
- 2:15Speaker 1: I'll throw this to you, I said Chris Pronger. I said,
- 2:19Speaker 1: I'm forty six the last thirty years. I go, where's
- 2:21Speaker 1: he ranking best defenseman? And Forstan goes Nick Litztrum, I go, okay,
- 2:25Speaker 1: Nick Litchtrom, I go Pronger right there, Hicks goes on Nedemyer,
- 2:29Speaker 1: I go, I might put progermar Is great, no question,
- 2:32Speaker 1: but Pronger me nasty. So the E J. Raddick becomes
- 2:35Speaker 1: the third man in your guy who likes to spin
- 2:37Speaker 1: a good yarn. When you're getting set for NHL. Now,
- 2:39Speaker 1: as always, people text me they want to talk movies,
- 2:42Speaker 1: and I want to talk sports, and they go, how
- 2:43Speaker 1: about the brutalist iky that it was great? Three fifteen architect.
- 2:45Speaker 1: I'm all in. We just wait till talon Jad watch it.
- 2:47Speaker 1: We'll give a full review and unscripted. I go more
- 2:49Speaker 1: portly Radick, where do you have Pronger? And he goes,
- 2:52Speaker 1: I wouldn't have him that high? Go really, he goes,
- 2:54Speaker 1: mccarag mccar, how can you put maccar out of Chris Pronger?
- 2:56Speaker 1: What are your nuts? And he goes char I go, no,
- 2:59Speaker 1: Chris Ponger's better than his charmer, Chris Parker. What a
- 3:01Speaker 1: heart trophy? He goes, heart trophy? He's done by media,
- 3:04Speaker 1: So what does that mean? He goes, Jose Theodre won
- 3:06Speaker 1: a hard trophy?
- 3:06Speaker 4: No.
- 3:06Speaker 1: Six. Because I'm not taking much screens, I go. Pronger
- 3:09Speaker 1: took the Oilers to the Cup and O ticks. He
- 3:11Speaker 1: carried that team Dwayne Mollison and Ty Conklin. I said,
- 3:14Speaker 1: then he takes the Ducks. He goes, oh, didn't win
- 3:17Speaker 1: a couple of that? Need tomor I go, he took
- 3:19Speaker 1: the Flyers in the Cup in twenty ten. I go,
- 3:21Speaker 1: Chris Ponger would go over Team Canada. All of This
- 3:23Speaker 1: is to say, where do you rank Chris Ponger. You're
- 3:25Speaker 1: a defenseman, you don't just build anybody. Where do you
- 3:27Speaker 1: rank him best defenseman? Last thirty years?
- 3:30Speaker 2: That was the longest story of my god damn life
- 3:33Speaker 2: for you to get to to get to the question
- 3:36Speaker 2: I knew you were going to get to, which is
- 3:37Speaker 2: how good is Chris prong How good is Chris Pronger?
- 3:40Speaker 2: It was It's hard to I don't like judging generationally
- 3:44Speaker 2: because games different. You know, could Chris Pronger play in
- 3:47Speaker 2: this era? I'm not sure in terms of his foot
- 3:50Speaker 2: speed and things like that, but he's kind of one
- 3:52Speaker 2: of those guys that I think were just so dominant
- 3:55Speaker 2: that he could transcend era. But could Cale mccarr go
- 3:58Speaker 2: back into Pronger's day and dominate the way he does now?
- 4:01Speaker 2: I think he could, So, you know, Cale mccar is
- 4:04Speaker 2: a different breed. I don't know where he's gonna end
- 4:06Speaker 2: up at the end of his career. Quinn Hughes as well,
- 4:08Speaker 2: These guys are just you know, insane. But Chris Pronger
- 4:11Speaker 2: of his time, in his era, I mean, it was
- 4:14Speaker 2: hard to find a defenseman that was that mean. Yeah,
- 4:17Speaker 2: could could move to the well, could move the puck, well,
- 4:21Speaker 2: could provide some offensive need be like, he was a
- 4:25Speaker 2: very very good defenseman. Uh, it's so tough. I'm so
- 4:28Speaker 2: biased because I love Scott Needemeyer and and obviously I
- 4:32Speaker 2: think Nick Linstrom is the gold standard. It just nobody
- 4:35Speaker 2: played the game more effortlessly than him in that in
- 4:39Speaker 2: that era. But yeah, I think, man, it's hard not
- 4:42Speaker 2: to put him up up high Chris Pronger just because
- 4:45Speaker 2: he's he was. I just love the meanness and and
- 4:49Speaker 2: somehow found a way to to provide offense and and
- 4:53Speaker 2: you know, scared the ship out of guys too.
- 4:55Speaker 1: Yeah, after batting around wrote this so succinctly. Pronger was
- 5:00Speaker 1: a feared defender who could consistently make a tape to
- 5:02Speaker 1: tape first past. He's as a whip, he could shoot
- 5:05Speaker 1: the pucket and contribute offensively. He often played over the
- 5:08Speaker 1: edge in the era that you could he intimidated.
- 5:11Speaker 2: He's a he's an interesting one. That that is on
- 5:13Speaker 2: a lot of guy people's lists high up and then
- 5:15Speaker 2: other he's the other. That's the other thing. He's very
- 5:17Speaker 2: polarizing in terms of where you would put him in
- 5:20Speaker 2: the top five, top ten d Man all the time.
- 5:23Speaker 2: Because you're gonna get some people that are like he's
- 5:25Speaker 2: my favorite. You're gonna get other people are like, what
- 5:27Speaker 2: are you talking about? Guy was a tall slow cross checker,
- 5:29Speaker 2: Like that's it.
- 5:31Speaker 1: He had a great lot, I said a pronger. He goes,
- 5:33Speaker 1: I said, I want to ask me the O six
- 5:34Speaker 1: oilers because yeah, you can ask me the only record
- 5:35Speaker 1: that I hold. So on the air, I said him,
- 5:37Speaker 1: what's the record? He goes, I'm the only guy to
- 5:39Speaker 1: score in a penalty shot in a Stanley Cup final game.
- 5:42Speaker 1: And I was like, that's right, that oilers game. Oilers
- 5:44Speaker 1: knees great series. Last thought in Saint Louis wore he
- 5:46Speaker 1: gets this hurricane trade which is absolutely massive. Is now
- 5:48Speaker 1: Ranton is part of this team. Saint Louis not a
- 5:50Speaker 1: great city, but the toasted Ravioli unbelievable. Every time I
- 5:54Speaker 1: St Louis, the toasted so good, right, unbelieva this is
- 5:57Speaker 1: so good? Smart ass tweets me. He goes, dude, you
- 5:59Speaker 1: can get that anywhere I go. No, you can't. I
- 6:00Speaker 1: went to Saint Louis twenty thirteen World Series, Red Sox
- 6:03Speaker 1: Cardinals me Aaron Boos kirchling like, where's the toasted rap?
- 6:06Speaker 1: And when I ordered it afterwards, one of the guys goes, oh,
- 6:08Speaker 1: now you're in Saint Louis, exactly toasted rap. He always
- 6:11Speaker 1: a very Saint Louis thing to do.
- 6:12Speaker 2: It's a random thing that Saint Louis is known for that.
- 6:18Speaker 2: You think barbie, you think barbecue. You know, Poppies is
- 6:20Speaker 2: one of the best barbecue places there, one of the
- 6:23Speaker 2: best barbecues in the country. Poppies far down, but yeahspies,
- 6:28Speaker 2: not Poppies, Pappies, Pappies, Poppies well coppy, Babby Pete on
- 6:33Speaker 2: his head, Bobby.
- 6:34Speaker 1: Pete on my coach. Greig Amsinger MLB Networks is from
- 6:37Speaker 1: Saint Louis. I text because listen, you gotta get to
- 6:39Speaker 1: Ted Drew's. I go, Ted, Ted Cruz. You got only
- 6:41Speaker 1: into politics, Ted Drews. And by the way, no, it's
- 6:45Speaker 1: it's a good because it's closed. I go, what because
- 6:47Speaker 1: it's it's it's winter, it's it's forty degrees in Saint Louis,
- 6:50Speaker 1: doesn't open. Dell Valentine's Day ice cream and custard, and
- 6:53Speaker 1: they make it so thick, they serve it upside down
- 6:55Speaker 1: like what do we do?
- 6:57Speaker 2: Just Artery, everything we know, everything we mentioned about Saint
- 7:00Speaker 2: Louis is just just cardiovascular disease.
- 7:03Speaker 1: All right, let's get honestly a master trade. I'm sure
- 7:05Speaker 1: this rocked your world as it did for me. First off,
- 7:08Speaker 1: props to your guy Jordan martinook. First he appears in
- 7:10Speaker 1: NHL unscripted, A huge honor for him. Next same day
- 7:14Speaker 1: the episode came out, he scores his first goal more
- 7:16Speaker 1: than a month. So we got the Marty bump, or
- 7:18Speaker 1: the unscripted bump it should be known as. The day
- 7:19Speaker 1: after that, the team pulls out the trade of the season.
- 7:22Speaker 1: Jaws are on the floor, Miko Ranton and goes from
- 7:24Speaker 1: the Avalanche in a blockbuster, now a member of the
- 7:27Speaker 1: Carolina Hurricanes. Taylor Hall is moving on Chicago, Carolina and
- 7:31Speaker 1: Taylor Hall, you know who knows how much more he
- 7:33Speaker 1: has left in the tank. But Marty natures, Jack Drury
- 7:35Speaker 1: a couple of picks the abs. We all know what
- 7:37Speaker 1: it is Jay obviously the Avalanche, No, it's quite called
- 7:40Speaker 1: the salary dump. But they can't afford Ranton and considering
- 7:43Speaker 1: how much money they're paying to McKinnon and mccar etc.
- 7:45Speaker 1: So make a move while you can. I think Chris
- 7:47Speaker 1: Pogres said to me, you're trading one hundred point guy
- 7:49Speaker 1: On ranton In for a sixty or seventy point guy
- 7:52Speaker 1: Marty Nachus. Is that a fair evaluation?
- 7:54Speaker 2: Well, before I talk about that, Martin Hook's now at
- 7:57Speaker 2: two points in three games since unscripted, so the bump
- 8:02Speaker 2: is real. I went to dinner with him the other
- 8:03Speaker 2: night and and we tied one on a little bit
- 8:06Speaker 2: before and he still, you know, the old school guy,
- 8:09Speaker 2: came out, had a couple with us, and me and
- 8:12Speaker 2: my wife who went to dinner and had a nice,
- 8:13Speaker 2: lovely dinner at Lartusi, and then he went off and
- 8:16Speaker 2: had to you know, beat the crap out of the Rangers,
- 8:18Speaker 2: which was great. So but no going to this trade now, okay, thanks,
- 8:22Speaker 2: There's a lot we talked about it on NHL Network,
- 8:24Speaker 2: and there's a lot of blind spots for me right now.
- 8:27Speaker 2: There's a lot of stuff in the media with you know,
- 8:30Speaker 2: ranton In saying I didn't quite know I was willing
- 8:32Speaker 2: to do a trade. Jim McFarland's going, well, I you know,
- 8:35Speaker 2: we tried to do a trade. It just didn't work.
- 8:37Speaker 2: You have the coaching staff Jared Bednar. That's like, we
- 8:40Speaker 2: didn't know that this was even coming. And you're best
- 8:42Speaker 2: player Nathan McKinnon, who should be involved in every single trade,
- 8:48Speaker 2: free agency signing, should at least be giving a heads up, Hey,
- 8:51Speaker 2: we're thinking about maybe moving Ranton and he's not going
- 8:53Speaker 2: to sign his deal. To have him be kind of
- 8:56Speaker 2: the in between, like he's the guy that's going to
- 8:58Speaker 2: be the longest, he'll probably play his whole career in Colorado.
- 9:01Speaker 2: You want him to know he's one of the best
- 9:03Speaker 2: players in the NHL as well. He should have a
- 9:05Speaker 2: say of who's on his line, who he's playing with.
- 9:08Speaker 2: It's just the way it is. That's the way it
- 9:10Speaker 2: needs to be dealt with when you have those top
- 9:12Speaker 2: end franchise players like Nathan Kinnon. So to me, I
- 9:16Speaker 2: don't know what his agent, Andy Scott, He's got a
- 9:18Speaker 2: lot of big players. I don't know if there was
- 9:20Speaker 2: a little bit of broken telephone and he wasn't advised
- 9:24Speaker 2: Miko Ranton and Andy Scott was kind of dealing on
- 9:27Speaker 2: his behalf. It's really weird. There's too many. It's too murky,
- 9:31Speaker 2: and I feel like something's going to come out of
- 9:33Speaker 2: like you know, there is somebody screwed up somewhere because
- 9:38Speaker 2: Ranton said he was willing to make a deal. Now,
- 9:41Speaker 2: preface that by saying, he said within market value. So
- 9:44Speaker 2: within market value, he's worth fourteen million on the open
- 9:48Speaker 2: market right now because he's comparable would be Leon Drycidle.
- 9:52Speaker 2: So he's probably saying that he would be willing to
- 9:54Speaker 2: take twelve thirteen million. That's kind of his low end.
- 9:57Speaker 2: He didn't say he would take McKinnon money. But then
- 9:59Speaker 2: yesterday I'm on air and you're hearing guys, we're talking
- 10:02Speaker 2: about it, that he he was willing to take like
- 10:05Speaker 2: somewhere close to McKinnon money because he understood he wanted
- 10:08Speaker 2: to be there. He loved playing in Colorado. So it's
- 10:11Speaker 2: very weird and something something stinks. Oh shit, where's the poop.
- 10:17Speaker 1: But ultimately, if someone has said you Colorado's a weaker
- 10:21Speaker 1: team without ransom, of course.
- 10:23Speaker 2: Oh one hundred percent, you got You get a guy
- 10:25Speaker 2: that gets better in the playoffs and is a proven winner.
- 10:29Speaker 2: He ranks. I mean, it's like his numbers are insane,
- 10:33Speaker 2: Like his playoff numbers are are wild. What he does,
- 10:36Speaker 2: he's you know, like I said, he's won a cup
- 10:39Speaker 2: and you bring in Marty nhs who. I don't think
- 10:42Speaker 2: Colorado's done though. I think they're gonna have to make
- 10:44Speaker 2: another move if they want any chance. And but I
- 10:47Speaker 2: heard an interesting thought was like, hey, listen, if they
- 10:49Speaker 2: kind of fall out of it and this isn't really
- 10:52Speaker 2: a team that is going to contend for a Cup,
- 10:56Speaker 2: you know, if Landiscott can't make it back, Nashushkin's banged up,
- 10:59Speaker 2: and they start falling out of it, they're in a
- 11:01Speaker 2: good spot to do a slight retool.
- 11:03Speaker 1: They have all.
- 11:03Speaker 2: The young pieces that they can move around to bring
- 11:06Speaker 2: in some top end guys and really rebuild their team.
- 11:09Speaker 2: Not a full rebuild, but I'm just saying they can
- 11:12Speaker 2: make more moves. They're nimble enough. But he listen, Marty
- 11:16Speaker 2: Nachis is. You know, he's back to back games at
- 11:19Speaker 2: two points now, and he was a little bit it
- 11:21Speaker 2: was a little bit tough early on. I watched his
- 11:24Speaker 2: first game. He was just deferring to Nate all the time,
- 11:26Speaker 2: trying to pass to him. And I do think that
- 11:29Speaker 2: the last two games he's been really good. He's really
- 11:34Speaker 2: done a good job of getting the puck to Nate
- 11:37Speaker 2: but also shooting the puck, and that's the important thing
- 11:39Speaker 2: with him is he needs to be a shooter. And
- 11:41Speaker 2: the big thing with this line is that you know,
- 11:43Speaker 2: Nate for as long as Natus will stand in the
- 11:45Speaker 2: line with him, I don't know if they split it
- 11:46Speaker 2: up and kind of spread the wealth, but he's got
- 11:49Speaker 2: somebody that can skate with him. Now, you know, Nachus
- 11:51Speaker 2: and McKinnon are two guys that are always waiting on
- 11:55Speaker 2: everybody because they're too fast and they're entering the zone
- 11:57Speaker 2: solo and they have to pull up and then everybody's
- 11:59Speaker 2: coming second, third wave. Now they can lead the rush together.
- 12:02Speaker 2: So you know, time will tell how this works. But
- 12:04Speaker 2: you know, obviously brandonon Is is such a great player
- 12:08Speaker 2: that if I would spend anything to get him on
- 12:10Speaker 2: my team. He's just a fucking huge, huge man, big
- 12:13Speaker 2: old finn that can that can skate, shoot, get to
- 12:17Speaker 2: the net. It's hard to find those guys.
- 12:19Speaker 1: Well, the Hurricanes we have kickstarted the rush the trade
- 12:21Speaker 1: deadline of March seventh, but Vancouver Canucks President of hockey
- 12:23Speaker 1: Operations Jim Rutherford, when asked about the ongoing feud between
- 12:27Speaker 1: stars Elias Betterson JT. Miller in an interview, with the
- 12:31Speaker 1: Globe and Mail love the shout up to the Globe
- 12:32Speaker 1: and Mail for Canadian listeners, Rutherford said up his two forwards,
- 12:36Speaker 1: it only gets resolved for a short printed time and
- 12:38Speaker 1: then it festers a kid And so it certainly appears
- 12:41Speaker 1: like there's not a good solution that would keep the
- 12:42Speaker 1: s group together. Hysterical because all along it's been alleged feud.
- 12:47Speaker 1: Perhaps there's a rift. These guys fucking hate each other.
- 12:50Speaker 1: Are you think everyone knows that.
- 12:52Speaker 2: This is the last time I talked about this until
- 12:55Speaker 2: one of them gets traded, and I'm I'm taking I'm
- 12:58Speaker 2: I don't even know what I'm gonna take, a food strike,
- 13:00Speaker 2: whatever you want to.
- 13:00Speaker 1: Call it, gonna be amazing, a hunger strike.
- 13:02Speaker 2: We're talking sick of talking about these guys. Yeah, of
- 13:05Speaker 2: course they don't like each other. Everybody knows it. You know,
- 13:08Speaker 2: one's fire, one's Ice. I just think you know he
- 13:12Speaker 2: came out too, and he's like, there's no good way
- 13:14Speaker 2: to make this trade. I'm like, you knew about this
- 13:16Speaker 2: months ago, probably last year, because I was listening to
- 13:20Speaker 2: Missing Curfew shout out to them. You know Brad Richardson,
- 13:23Speaker 2: who I played with and who I know and golf
- 13:25Speaker 2: with quite a bit. We were talking about it and
- 13:29Speaker 2: he played on Vancouver and was like he was telling JT.
- 13:32Speaker 2: Miller like, you got to relax. You are beating this
- 13:34Speaker 2: kid up. And this is like two three years ago.
- 13:37Speaker 2: So I'm like, it's been around. Everybody knows it. Number one,
- 13:41Speaker 2: no one's stepped in and you know, corrected JT. Miller,
- 13:44Speaker 2: which if he's gone over the line, you should and
- 13:47Speaker 2: maybe they tried and you just wouldn't listen. But then
- 13:49Speaker 2: the coaching staff. It falls back on the coaching staff.
- 13:51Speaker 2: They see this and they understand, and they should know
- 13:54Speaker 2: what the heartbeat of the locker room is. They don't.
- 13:56Speaker 2: They've failed categorically. And then now we know the GM
- 13:59Speaker 2: and ownership knows about it and they haven't done anything
- 14:01Speaker 2: about it. So they've all failed, top to bottom. It's
- 14:04Speaker 2: every but He's felt everybody has a hand in this,
- 14:06Speaker 2: and I'm sick of it. And that's all I gotta say.
- 14:08Speaker 2: Trade both of them, rebuild, screw it. Canock stink now
- 14:11Speaker 2: unbelievable again.
- 14:12Speaker 1: We had the Knucks Blues game on Amazon Prime. I
- 14:14Speaker 1: had to interview Patrick Alvin at the second intermission, so
- 14:16Speaker 1: I asked him you know, how do you ed you
- 14:18Speaker 1: phrase this kind of a question. He's not gonna give
- 14:20Speaker 1: me aything.
- 14:20Speaker 4: Well, I'm not.
- 14:20Speaker 1: I'm not gonna go into particular details, but yes, we're
- 14:22Speaker 1: always open at different trades. To bottom line this, Pederson's
- 14:25Speaker 1: got eleven goals and six at even strength, you're making
- 14:28Speaker 1: eleven six and you got eleven the goal and even
- 14:31Speaker 1: Jody Shelley, your buddy, and I were talking like just
- 14:33Speaker 1: the body language and Pederson's walking in just seeing him
- 14:35Speaker 1: in the I's like, dude, this guy looks miserable out there.
- 14:37Speaker 1: Number forty. Trade him and as far as J. T. Miller,
- 14:40Speaker 1: maybe he's a pay in the ass. I don't know.
- 14:41Speaker 1: I'm not in the locker room. Maybe he's not a
- 14:43Speaker 1: guy who would want to play with, but at least
- 14:45Speaker 1: he competes. And I asked talk it. I said, point blank,
- 14:48Speaker 1: we had we had him on that game Canucks haves
- 14:50Speaker 1: in a four point game. I understand he was always
- 14:52Speaker 1: scored eight goals this year, like, clearly, what's the issue
- 14:54Speaker 1: And he goes, listen. I think he's a little bit
- 14:56Speaker 1: snake bit. I think he always can't be the first
- 14:57Speaker 1: guy for checking. Miller always has to be the first game.
- 15:00Speaker 1: There are other guys you need to four check, get
- 15:01Speaker 1: him the puck, et cetera. But you're right, it's very
- 15:04Speaker 1: frustrating and nauseating for this team because they're a bubble
- 15:07Speaker 1: team right now. For the playoffs. It clear they're capable
- 15:09Speaker 1: of much better.
- 15:10Speaker 2: Yeah, they they If you trade one or both of
- 15:13Speaker 2: these guys. And I've said it and and I'll keep
- 15:15Speaker 2: saying it, you know they're not gonna make They probably
- 15:18Speaker 2: don't have a chance to make the playoffs, or it's
- 15:20Speaker 2: gonna be very difficult. Listen, it's those two guys are
- 15:23Speaker 2: great players when they're at their best, at their very best. Listen,
- 15:27Speaker 2: Peterson is underwhelming in terms statistically this year for what
- 15:30Speaker 2: he's making. But if he's making less, nobody would say
- 15:33Speaker 2: a thing. So, but that's just why it puts the
- 15:36Speaker 2: magnifying glass or the microscope down on him. And listen,
- 15:40Speaker 2: it's it's tough because, yeah, he's probably snake bitten and
- 15:44Speaker 2: he's not getting to the right areas and it's just
- 15:47Speaker 2: not going in for him. But it's more of a
- 15:50Speaker 2: mental thing right now where I think it's you know, irreconcilable.
- 15:54Speaker 2: This whatever is going on, and they just have to
- 15:57Speaker 2: pull the trigger. You're not gonna win this trade no
- 15:59Speaker 2: matter what. Now everybody knows there's blood in the water.
- 16:02Speaker 2: The sharks know, the GM sharks know there's blood in
- 16:05Speaker 2: the water. So one, no one's gonna trade with you,
- 16:07Speaker 2: or two they're gonna take advantage of you. They can't
- 16:10Speaker 2: win that trade. There's no possible way to win that trade.
- 16:13Speaker 2: You know, it doesn't matter where when you're When you're
- 16:16Speaker 2: from a position of a disadvantage as great as this,
- 16:20Speaker 2: where everybody knows your dirty laundry, there's there's just no
- 16:23Speaker 2: way for them. So they're gonna get screwed no matter
- 16:25Speaker 2: what they're they're gonna have to. So you might as
- 16:28Speaker 2: well trade somebody at a loss right now and just
- 16:32Speaker 2: get it over with. Rip the band aid off.
- 16:34Speaker 1: Caprice hops out for a while, he's getting out for
- 16:35Speaker 1: a while. You're watching Kayden Gooling. You're texting the Great
- 16:38Speaker 1: Mike Johnson, going he's done. Hedn't sit out on an ambulance.
- 16:41Speaker 1: So some of these trades are gonna be impacted by
- 16:43Speaker 1: these injuries, which could be very important.
- 16:45Speaker 2: Yeah, and everything always, guys start to kind of it's
- 16:49Speaker 2: unavoidable that there's gonna be injury trouble is what it
- 16:53Speaker 2: is now. The fact that it's been you know, if
- 16:55Speaker 2: you look last night that it Obviously Caprice often get
- 16:58Speaker 2: hurt in the game, but I skin in and Kate
- 17:00Speaker 2: and Gooley. That's two big pieces to teams that are
- 17:03Speaker 2: kind of you know, in the play off hunt. You know,
- 17:05Speaker 2: obviously Dallas is in, but Montreal's kind of a bubble
- 17:07Speaker 2: team that's trying to make it and playing some good hockey.
- 17:10Speaker 2: They lost a heartbreaker to Winnipeg. I thought they outplayed
- 17:13Speaker 2: him for the majority of the game. Just couldn't figure
- 17:15Speaker 2: out hell a buck. But it depends. Now it gets
- 17:18Speaker 2: creative time for gms and the good thing this year
- 17:22Speaker 2: that wasn't there last year's four Nations because you get
- 17:26Speaker 2: you get some time off, so it kind of gives
- 17:28Speaker 2: you a little bit of leeway before the trade deadline
- 17:31Speaker 2: to evaluate your team, see if guys are gonna be healthy.
- 17:34Speaker 2: I know Caprice off, he's like they said about four
- 17:36Speaker 2: weeks four to six, so that kind of puts them
- 17:39Speaker 2: right around after four Nations. So I think they're gonna
- 17:42Speaker 2: be okay. But in the meantime they can potentially make
- 17:44Speaker 2: a trade that will impact their team in the positive.
- 17:48Speaker 2: But you know, I feel like it's I thought there
- 17:50Speaker 2: would be a little bit more of a flurry after
- 17:52Speaker 2: the rant in trade of some other teams making deals,
- 17:56Speaker 2: but it seems a little bit quiet this year. And
- 17:58Speaker 2: I just don't know. There's a lot of teams that
- 18:00Speaker 2: if you look in the East, there's a lot of
- 18:01Speaker 2: teams that are in that hunt. So who's a buyer?
- 18:03Speaker 2: Who's the seller one of those teams in that bubble,
- 18:06Speaker 2: those guys that are on the outside looking in that
- 18:08Speaker 2: I think it's like three points separating like five of
- 18:11Speaker 2: them from making the playoffs. It's so tough for GM.
- 18:13Speaker 2: You have to decide whether I'm a buyer. I'm a
- 18:15Speaker 2: seller at this time, but you have some time with
- 18:18Speaker 2: four nations, but it's it's difficult because not everybody's gonna
- 18:21Speaker 2: make it into the playoffs. So you have to really
- 18:23Speaker 2: evaluate do I mortgage my future to bring in a
- 18:25Speaker 2: big name or do I kind of stand pat and
- 18:28Speaker 2: hopefully the team that I have on the ice makes it.
- 18:31Speaker 2: Because you look at the East, it's a lot more
- 18:33Speaker 2: logjammy than the West. The West is you know, maybe
- 18:36Speaker 2: other than that first wildcard spot. I mean, everything's up
- 18:39Speaker 2: for grabs. I think, not sorry, just that one wild
- 18:41Speaker 2: card spot. Everything's locked in. It's like those teams are
- 18:43Speaker 2: probably gonna be the teams unless something crazy happens. You know,
- 18:47Speaker 2: the only team is like Calgary Vancouver, it's you TOAs
- 18:50Speaker 2: Saint Louis. That group of teams I think are gonna
- 18:53Speaker 2: jockey for that second wildcard spot.
- 18:56Speaker 1: And also what's interesting now is when you look at
- 18:59Speaker 1: the Four Nations you know this was coming. Some big
- 19:01Speaker 1: names are gonna drop out here. Vegas Golden Knights and
- 19:03Speaker 1: Team Canada defenseman with Transul announced on Sunday he's withdrawing
- 19:07Speaker 1: from the tournament to help heal undisclosed injuries and focus
- 19:10Speaker 1: in the remainder of the Golden Knights season. You're gonna
- 19:12Speaker 1: start to see more of this day because listen, I'm
- 19:14Speaker 1: excited for four Nations again. Anytime you see you're playing
- 19:17Speaker 1: for a team's country, it's a middle of February watching hockey. Yeah,
- 19:20Speaker 1: but you gotta think about players who are being smart.
- 19:22Speaker 1: Is it a better decision again healing an undisclosed injury
- 19:26Speaker 1: or perhaps just a mental break if you're not that
- 19:28Speaker 1: focused on this Four Nations tournament? And it's more important
- 19:31Speaker 1: to you to be with your team to win the
- 19:32Speaker 1: Stanley Cup. How many more players are gonna be dropping out?
- 19:35Speaker 1: I hopefully it's not the major names. I hope it's
- 19:37Speaker 1: still a great tournament. But we're gonna see more of
- 19:38Speaker 1: this now, right, Yeah?
- 19:40Speaker 2: I think so. I think guys that have experience already
- 19:42Speaker 2: on the international stage and have represented their country, if
- 19:46Speaker 2: they're kind of on the edge, on the borderline. I'm
- 19:48Speaker 2: sure there's conversation with gms and coaching staffs. I'm sure
- 19:52Speaker 2: Petra Angelo was in the room saying, hey, you know,
- 19:54Speaker 2: I'm dealing with something, because listen he said, I'm dealing
- 19:58Speaker 2: with an injury and pulling out of four nations and
- 20:00Speaker 2: then proceeded to play twenty three minutes that night. So
- 20:04Speaker 2: you know, whether it's something that's ailing him or it's
- 20:06Speaker 2: just like, hey, I'm I'm I want some rest and
- 20:08Speaker 2: I might get a clean up surgery or something like that.
- 20:10Speaker 2: Who knows, but yeah, it's it's you're going to see
- 20:14Speaker 2: more of it. It's not the end. It is what
- 20:17Speaker 2: it is. I just think guys that you know, the
- 20:19Speaker 2: good thing is is it's not as many countries and
- 20:22Speaker 2: I think there's the only team where it would kind
- 20:24Speaker 2: of be an issue with Finland because I don't even
- 20:26Speaker 2: think they can they can house anymore demon look at
- 20:29Speaker 2: Heskinin's out like you look, Heeskinin's out on Finland. They
- 20:32Speaker 2: they only had ten d men that qualified for four nations.
- 20:38Speaker 2: That's great per per the rules. So they're down to
- 20:42Speaker 2: nine and of that nine, maybe five or NHL defenseman.
- 20:47Speaker 2: The big thing about Petro Angelo coming back going to
- 20:49Speaker 2: that is that I'm interesting to see who they pick.
- 20:52Speaker 2: Do they go with the Drew Dowdy if he's healthy,
- 20:54Speaker 2: or do they go with a younger kid like McKenzie Weeger,
- 20:57Speaker 2: somebody that's, you know, kind of played all year and
- 20:59Speaker 2: is deserving, or do you go with the veteran that's
- 21:01Speaker 2: done it before and it's kind of a similar archetype
- 21:03Speaker 2: to Petro Angela.
- 21:04Speaker 1: Yeah, I think I would leanly to go Dowdy. But
- 21:06Speaker 1: you're right, that's gonna be a fascinating conversation here as
- 21:08Speaker 1: we build up the four nations, which is.
- 21:09Speaker 2: You know who's that you know? I love off the
- 21:12Speaker 2: cuff Chris Hannah Chris.
- 21:15Speaker 1: Hamas had a great year for the Leafs. There's no
- 21:16Speaker 1: question about it.
- 21:17Speaker 2: I just that's kind of the guy you throw a Theadore.
- 21:20Speaker 1: I don't know.
- 21:21Speaker 2: I just think it would it could work, But I
- 21:23Speaker 2: think he's a He's another guy. You don't want him
- 21:25Speaker 2: to play too much hockey. Let that man rest those bones.
- 21:28Speaker 1: Yeah, it certainly he's been a difference maker for Toronto.
- 21:30Speaker 1: There's no question about it. All right. Four Nations is
- 21:32Speaker 1: around the corner. Coming up next though. Here on NHL Unscripted,
- 21:34Speaker 1: Ian Halp he's the perfect unscripted guest, not only a
- 21:38Speaker 1: terrific ballplayer of the Chicago Cubs, but he's fascinated by
- 21:41Speaker 1: coffee and golf and John Boy media and he's got
- 21:44Speaker 1: some great stories. But Eddie Vedder that's next. By the
- 22:00Speaker 1: time we get some baseball here in NHL Unscripted, our
- 22:02Speaker 1: next guest All Star and Gold outfielder with the Chicago Cubs.
- 22:05Speaker 1: His name is Ian Happ, ninth overall pick in the
- 22:08Speaker 1: twenty fifteen Major League Baseball Draft. He made his debut
- 22:10Speaker 1: twenty seventeen. The following season, and his first opening day
- 22:14Speaker 1: start half point yard on the first pitch, becoming the
- 22:17Speaker 1: second player in baseball history to hit a home run
- 22:20Speaker 1: off the first pitch of the baseball season. Ian it's
- 22:22Speaker 1: great to see him. Man, thank you so much for
- 22:23Speaker 1: the time.
- 22:24Speaker 5: Yeah, thanks for having me on. Glad we could do it.
- 22:27Speaker 1: So I want to talk first with the fact you
- 22:28Speaker 1: were at Wrigley for that Winter Classic a few weeks ago.
- 22:31Speaker 1: What was your impressions of the event.
- 22:33Speaker 6: I mean, it was amazing. It was crazy to see
- 22:36Speaker 6: Wriggly transform. I think like that was we went down
- 22:39Speaker 6: on the field as Jason we talked down there, it
- 22:42Speaker 6: was like, there's no netting like when you see like
- 22:45Speaker 6: when you're out there for baseball game right, like you
- 22:47Speaker 6: got the whole field down. You got the netting to
- 22:49Speaker 6: protect the fans going down there. Netting's down, everything's transformed.
- 22:53Speaker 6: It was pretty crazy. The boys took over our locker room,
- 22:56Speaker 6: a lot of carpets down, a lot of matts. I
- 22:58Speaker 6: was in the coach's locker room working out, doing all
- 23:00Speaker 6: my stuff. But it was a really cool experience. It
- 23:03Speaker 6: was great to to see the game and the NHL
- 23:06Speaker 6: did a great job with it.
- 23:08Speaker 2: Well, that's so funny because like in baseball, you never
- 23:10Speaker 2: really you know, we're so used to sharing locker rooms
- 23:13Speaker 2: with NBA and whoever comes in, whoever comes through, like
- 23:16Speaker 2: it never really it's rare for you guys really to
- 23:18Speaker 2: kind of lose your locker room like that. So kind
- 23:20Speaker 2: of how was it to be, like, holy shit, these
- 23:22Speaker 2: guys are in my space here, messing with my my stall.
- 23:25Speaker 5: Yeah, and it's not u.
- 23:27Speaker 6: You know, in the winter, we don't get back a ton.
- 23:30Speaker 6: You know, guys go to their separate places. I think
- 23:32Speaker 6: that's a little bit different from hockey, I think because
- 23:35Speaker 6: like if you play for the Blackhawks, like I'm staying
- 23:38Speaker 6: in Chicago for the summer. It's the best place ever
- 23:40Speaker 6: in the summer. But like for us, like I even
- 23:42Speaker 6: though my wife's from Chicago, I'm getting out of there.
- 23:44Speaker 6: So we were back for the holidays with my wife's
- 23:47Speaker 6: family and like I'm going into workout. They're like, hey man,
- 23:50Speaker 6: the NHL's uh, they got offices in the batting cage.
- 23:53Speaker 5: We don't have batting cages anymore.
- 23:54Speaker 1: Like god, I.
- 23:56Speaker 5: Can't even hit at the field, Like this is crazy.
- 23:59Speaker 5: But but it was cool, you know.
- 24:00Speaker 6: They they did a good job of you know, they
- 24:03Speaker 6: only came in for a couple of days.
- 24:04Speaker 5: The actual player.
- 24:05Speaker 6: So we got to talk to Adar down the weight
- 24:07Speaker 6: room and see those guys and you know, ask them
- 24:10Speaker 6: about the experience. They were all excited to do it
- 24:12Speaker 6: and to see everything.
- 24:13Speaker 5: Which was cool.
- 24:14Speaker 2: What kind of charities? Because I saw you do a
- 24:16Speaker 2: little stuff with First Tea and I do some stuff
- 24:18Speaker 2: with First Team Phoenix, and they're separate chapters. So how's
- 24:22Speaker 2: how's that experience been with them?
- 24:24Speaker 5: Yeah, I First Tea has been awesome.
- 24:27Speaker 6: So when I was growing up in Pittsburgh, my dad
- 24:29Speaker 6: worked for the United States Golf Association, so he was
- 24:32Speaker 6: involved with the First Tea in Pittsburgh, and so when
- 24:35Speaker 6: I got to Chicago, that was something that meant a
- 24:38Speaker 6: lot to me. And kind of two years in twenty nineteen,
- 24:41Speaker 6: there was a new CEO that took over the Chicago
- 24:44Speaker 6: chapter and so we started to kind of plan out,
- 24:48Speaker 6: you know, how I could be involved in help and
- 24:50Speaker 6: so my wife and I now for we just we
- 24:54Speaker 6: missed one in COVID, so I don't know the numbers.
- 24:56Speaker 5: I think it was our fourth out of five.
- 24:57Speaker 6: Years because we missed one for COVID, But we hosted
- 24:59Speaker 6: a charity event at the five Iron Downtown in Chicago
- 25:04Speaker 6: when we go back for Cubs Con.
- 25:05Speaker 5: So we just did that in the middle of January.
- 25:07Speaker 5: One of our.
- 25:08Speaker 6: Coffee coffee company connect roaster, so one of the coffees,
- 25:12Speaker 6: you know, a dollar per pound roast.
- 25:14Speaker 5: He goes to the first tea.
- 25:15Speaker 6: We also work with Save the Children in the Food
- 25:17Speaker 6: Bank in Chicago through the coffee company, So it's been
- 25:20Speaker 6: awesome to be involved the first he does great work
- 25:22Speaker 6: and being able to kind of see the progress they've
- 25:25Speaker 6: made over the last five years.
- 25:26Speaker 5: They've built three facilities for the kids. It's been really really.
- 25:29Speaker 1: Cool, awesome to hear that Ian happ Of course, the
- 25:32Speaker 1: Chicago Cubs. Cubs have been a busy offseason. Kyle Tucker
- 25:34Speaker 1: is a tremendous player. What a fantastic edition he is.
- 25:37Speaker 1: Ryan pressing you guys, just acquired as a new closer.
- 25:39Speaker 1: He's been terrific for Houston in the past. Well, I
- 25:41Speaker 1: want to go back to Joe Madden. It was your
- 25:43Speaker 1: first manager there with the Cubs. Just an all around
- 25:45Speaker 1: great dude. I mean, everyone who knows Joe meets me.
- 25:47Speaker 1: He's colorful, he's funny, he's entertaining. He would bring in magicians,
- 25:50Speaker 1: he'd bringing hypnotists. One of my favorite lines I was
- 25:52Speaker 1: talking to Joe was I asked him why he show
- 25:55Speaker 1: up so late, and he said well, you know what,
- 25:57Speaker 1: some of these managers show up at nine am, and
- 25:59Speaker 1: he because I need to show up at six hours
- 26:01Speaker 1: early just to sit in my underwear and go through
- 26:02Speaker 1: the lineup, like we know where one's getting. I'm happy
- 26:04Speaker 1: to tell the boys to take a day off. Re
- 26:06Speaker 1: action you can. What was your experience like with Joe Madden.
- 26:08Speaker 6: Yeah, that was one of the coolest things about coming
- 26:11Speaker 6: up under Joe was he really just let you be you.
- 26:16Speaker 6: He let you go about your business and trusted that
- 26:19Speaker 6: you were going to be a professional, that you were
- 26:21Speaker 6: going to prepare. He let the veterans police the clubhouse.
- 26:24Speaker 6: You know, I was very lucky to come up with
- 26:27Speaker 6: Anthony Rizzo right next to me, and he was you know,
- 26:31Speaker 6: he stood in my wedding.
- 26:32Speaker 5: We were very close.
- 26:33Speaker 6: And the ability to kind of watch him go through
- 26:36Speaker 6: his routine and his work.
- 26:37Speaker 5: You know.
- 26:38Speaker 6: We had a lot of young, really really good players,
- 26:40Speaker 6: but we had Jason Hayward, we had John Lester, we
- 26:42Speaker 6: had John Lackey. We had guys that were veteran players
- 26:44Speaker 6: who had done it and knew the game, and so
- 26:46Speaker 6: I really soaked up everything those guys had to offer.
- 26:50Speaker 6: But Joe was he was a beauty. He kept it loose.
- 26:52Speaker 6: He let guys do their thing. One of the best
- 26:54Speaker 6: things that Joe did was every year he would have
- 26:56Speaker 6: what was called an American Legion Week. So American Legion
- 27:01Speaker 6: Week was go back to high school. He would lock
- 27:04Speaker 6: the cl clubhouse for they were playing a seven o'clock
- 27:06Speaker 6: game at home. He'd locked the clubhouse until four, so
- 27:08Speaker 6: you couldn't come in until four. There was no batting practice,
- 27:11Speaker 6: you know, day game at one twenty. You couldn't get
- 27:13Speaker 6: until eleven to obp. And he did it for a
- 27:15Speaker 6: full week and every year we would go like five
- 27:19Speaker 6: and two that week, like the boys were not losing
- 27:22Speaker 6: on American Legen Week.
- 27:23Speaker 5: It was amazing.
- 27:24Speaker 2: Well, you got to get away from the game sometimes,
- 27:26Speaker 2: And I love that he saw that. And I mean,
- 27:28Speaker 2: you guys do a bunch of weird stuff too, Like
- 27:30Speaker 2: we fans never see it because we do it in
- 27:33Speaker 2: the dressing room, but you guys, you know, are on
- 27:35Speaker 2: display in the dugout and guys are messing around. And
- 27:38Speaker 2: what's some of your like top two or your most
- 27:42Speaker 2: notable dugout stories that you got where guys were just
- 27:45Speaker 2: goofing off and pulling some awesome pranks.
- 27:49Speaker 6: We used to have one our strength coach. It was
- 27:51Speaker 6: an absolute beauty. This was mostly during spring training. It
- 27:56Speaker 6: would happen occasionally during the year if you got a dugout.
- 27:59Speaker 6: So like most of the dugouts in Arizona, they get
- 28:01Speaker 6: a ton of sun, right, so he would They're like
- 28:05Speaker 6: the black kind of rubber and he would chew up
- 28:08Speaker 6: bubble gum and then he would toss it right, try
- 28:12Speaker 6: to get it right under people's shoes so it would
- 28:14Speaker 6: get all melted and sticky and then somebody would step
- 28:16Speaker 6: in it.
- 28:17Speaker 5: That was a really good one.
- 28:21Speaker 1: Let's think about ballplayer, think of these kuys of things. Yeah,
- 28:24Speaker 1: see right, it's your big coffee guy, and we got
- 28:28Speaker 1: to go the connect roasters. Uh yeah, let's get it.
- 28:32Speaker 1: Get into this.
- 28:32Speaker 2: Well, yeah, I'm a coffee guy. Don't take my coffee question. Okay,
- 28:37Speaker 2: Ann you're taking all that. You take my good question.
- 28:40Speaker 1: I coffee connoisseurs.
- 28:41Speaker 2: Yeah, for for the fans at home, and you know
- 28:44Speaker 2: we have an audio and visual aspect. But take people
- 28:47Speaker 2: through and I know you can describe coffee with the
- 28:50Speaker 2: best of them, but take us through your your morning
- 28:53Speaker 2: routine with your with something a lot of not not
- 28:56Speaker 2: a lot of people know about. But a pour over,
- 28:58Speaker 2: which is a beautiful thing.
- 28:59Speaker 5: Yeah, pour over is. It's a beautiful thing. It's a
- 29:01Speaker 5: meditative thing for me and I wake up.
- 29:05Speaker 6: We have a coffee company at base out of Chicago,
- 29:07Speaker 6: Connect Roasters, so I'm generally drinking that you know, ninety
- 29:09Speaker 6: percent at the time. But I have a grinder, I
- 29:13Speaker 6: have a kettle, and I have a chemex so I
- 29:15Speaker 6: got the chemics right here next to me because I
- 29:17Speaker 6: made my poor over this morning. But grind the beans
- 29:21Speaker 6: and weigh them out. Make sure the ratio is right,
- 29:24Speaker 6: sixteen grams of water for every one gram of.
- 29:29Speaker 5: Beans. Like I'm dialed. My routines died.
- 29:32Speaker 6: I got another Jamison tai On who's a starting pitcher
- 29:35Speaker 6: on our team. He is as into coffee, maybe more
- 29:38Speaker 6: into coffee than I am. So as a position player,
- 29:41Speaker 6: like you can't be can't be making coffee for the
- 29:44Speaker 6: boys every day.
- 29:44Speaker 5: There's a lot going on with.
- 29:46Speaker 6: Jamo's you know, he throws once every five days, starting pitcher,
- 29:49Speaker 6: so he'll get the team caffeinated on the days he's
- 29:52Speaker 6: not pitching, so he's.
- 29:53Speaker 5: Making pour over. He's hit the locker next to his
- 29:55Speaker 5: as an open coffee locker. So he's making pour overs
- 29:58Speaker 5: and handed out coffees the guys before they go out
- 30:01Speaker 5: on the on the field.
- 30:03Speaker 2: What like tell ad and like his mentality. They don't
- 30:05Speaker 2: know like how long does it take to make a
- 30:07Speaker 2: poor over?
- 30:08Speaker 3: Uh?
- 30:09Speaker 6: My full, It probably takes me from the time I
- 30:11Speaker 6: start heating the water up like fifteen minutes.
- 30:14Speaker 1: Wow.
- 30:15Speaker 2: And he does that for the locker room. That is
- 30:17Speaker 2: a hell of a teammate.
- 30:18Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 30:19Speaker 2: Yeah, But you know, I played for thirteen years and
- 30:22Speaker 2: I was very much, very similar to you. So everything
- 30:25Speaker 2: you're saying resonates because I always needed to find an
- 30:28Speaker 2: outlet outside of base outside of hockey that kind of
- 30:32Speaker 2: needed to take my distract just distract me a little bit.
- 30:35Speaker 2: And I had all these different ventures and things like that,
- 30:37Speaker 2: and a lot of people thought I was nuts. But
- 30:40Speaker 2: you talk about you said meditative for coffee, and is
- 30:42Speaker 2: everything just kind of designed to to kind of take
- 30:45Speaker 2: take your mind off baseball and just touch those under
- 30:48Speaker 2: other interests so you don't kind of get stagnant within
- 30:50Speaker 2: the sport.
- 30:51Speaker 5: Yeah. I find it to be really enjoyable.
- 30:54Speaker 1: You know.
- 30:54Speaker 6: I like trying to help founders, I like trying to
- 30:56Speaker 6: grow businesses, I like being involved. It's not something that
- 31:01Speaker 6: takes away from me being able to perform on the field.
- 31:03Speaker 6: I think it's something that you're going to have some
- 31:06Speaker 6: free time, and I enjoy doing this with my free
- 31:08Speaker 6: time instead of sitting down playing video games and doing
- 31:11Speaker 6: other stuff.
- 31:11Speaker 5: You know, this is this is This is fun for me.
- 31:14Speaker 6: It's something that I enjoy, and so I try to
- 31:16Speaker 6: I always try to align with my interests, things that
- 31:19Speaker 6: I actually use in my life and things that I
- 31:21Speaker 6: care about.
- 31:22Speaker 5: And I think that we've done a really good job.
- 31:24Speaker 6: Myself and kind of the group around me has done
- 31:26Speaker 6: a really good job of finding those things and really
- 31:28Speaker 6: exploring them.
- 31:30Speaker 1: I was just in Chicago for the black Hawks game
- 31:32Speaker 1: a couple of weeks ago, Flames Hawks, and so I
- 31:34Speaker 1: had to have a little deep dishlu Maul Natty's where
- 31:36Speaker 1: are you out on deep Dish? And I feel like
- 31:37Speaker 1: it's one of those things you don't once a year.
- 31:39Speaker 1: It's not a staple where yet deep dish.
- 31:42Speaker 6: I gotta be honest. My wife is from Chicago, her
- 31:45Speaker 6: whole family's there. I'm not a deep dish guy.
- 31:49Speaker 2: Yeah, that's the worst for me.
- 31:50Speaker 5: It is. It's kind of pizza soup, especially if you
- 31:52Speaker 5: get the large like the middle's crazy.
- 31:55Speaker 6: If you get like a small, personal sized deep dish
- 31:58Speaker 6: like once a year, you get just enough.
- 32:01Speaker 5: But I you know, I'm staying away from that.
- 32:04Speaker 1: They just pizza soup. It's just to what he said, there's.
- 32:07Speaker 6: Yeah, too much going on, but I try I try
- 32:10Speaker 6: to not say that very often.
- 32:13Speaker 1: Well at that part, that was just for us.
- 32:14Speaker 5: Yeah, I love Chicago.
- 32:17Speaker 2: No, we'll, we'll, We'll leave it in you. He mentioned
- 32:20Speaker 2: the black Hawks game. You did a shoot to score there,
- 32:22Speaker 2: don't didn't you? Yeah, down there on the ice years ago, Well,
- 32:27Speaker 2: how'd you do?
- 32:27Speaker 5: I stunk?
- 32:29Speaker 6: I didn't. I think I hit. I might have hit
- 32:31Speaker 6: the I think goal, but I didn't. I was like,
- 32:35Speaker 6: no chance.
- 32:35Speaker 2: Yeah, but that's like I've seen people throw it in
- 32:38Speaker 2: the corner, left corner, Like if you hit the board,
- 32:41Speaker 2: you're that's that's commendable. Yeah, I got a good job.
- 32:45Speaker 5: That was Yeah, definitely.
- 32:46Speaker 6: That's intimidating down there and get in front of you
- 32:48Speaker 6: got eighteen thousand. You're doing a different sport, like, hey,
- 32:51Speaker 6: this isn't me, but I do play you know, I
- 32:52Speaker 6: play golf, so I have a little bit. But it's
- 32:56Speaker 6: in I shoot left handed, which doesn't you know, I'm
- 32:59Speaker 6: a switch hitter, but I golf right. But when I
- 33:01Speaker 6: go to shoot, I I don't. I've never played hockey.
- 33:05Speaker 6: Egg yeah, but I go it's left handed's natural, which
- 33:08Speaker 6: is weird.
- 33:09Speaker 2: That's and you golf ridy, golf rdy. Yeah, that is
- 33:12Speaker 2: that's weird. That's a maniacal shit there. Yeah, I mean
- 33:17Speaker 2: I I kick left. That's the weirdest thing I have.
- 33:19Speaker 2: But when you when you see guys throw the first pitch, like,
- 33:24Speaker 2: what sports been the worst pitch that you've seen, like
- 33:28Speaker 2: kind of on average, because I've seen some hockey guys.
- 33:31Speaker 2: Oh man, have they some bad throws?
- 33:34Speaker 5: Yeah, I mean we've had a couple.
- 33:36Speaker 6: We've had a couple that just like the dead spike
- 33:39Speaker 6: is the one that always gets like, if you throw
- 33:40Speaker 6: it too high, nobody's going to be like that's what
- 33:43Speaker 6: we always tell people, like, hey, if you airmail it,
- 33:45Speaker 6: nobody's going to be upset, Like people like whoa, But like,
- 33:48Speaker 6: the dead spike is.
- 33:49Speaker 5: The worst one you see. Somebody just just.
- 33:53Speaker 1: Quote last thought for me. You know, I don't know
- 33:56Speaker 1: what's cool with the fact you get to go to
- 33:57Speaker 1: Wrigley Field and call that your place of work. Or
- 34:00Speaker 1: Eddie Vedder, who's as good a musician alive, is the
- 34:02Speaker 1: biggest Cups fan alive. Give me a Eddy story of
- 34:04Speaker 1: the I mean.
- 34:05Speaker 5: Eddie is he's the best. He shows up a few
- 34:07Speaker 5: times a year. I think.
- 34:09Speaker 6: The coolest thing about Eddie and probably my best Eddie story,
- 34:15Speaker 6: he came to Dodger Stadium a few years ago and
- 34:19Speaker 6: he's down under, you know, with with the team after
- 34:22Speaker 6: the game. But he would just he was like hanging
- 34:26Speaker 6: out like by the training room, like hugging the trainers
- 34:29Speaker 6: talk like he remembers everybody. He remembers everyone on staff,
- 34:33Speaker 6: so the trainer that's only been there a couple of years,
- 34:35Speaker 6: the strength coach that he's only met one time, the
- 34:38Speaker 6: media guy that he knows, like he remembers every single person.
- 34:42Speaker 5: He doesn't want to.
- 34:43Speaker 6: You know, he loves everybody, but he's not just coming
- 34:46Speaker 6: up to the superstar to say hello like Eddie. Genuinely
- 34:49Speaker 6: loves everyone that's associated with the Chicago Cubs organization. And
- 34:53Speaker 6: that's what makes him so special. We just did something
- 34:55Speaker 6: last year. Adam Wainwright, who just retired legend pitcher for
- 34:58Speaker 6: the Cardinals. He had retired he assigned a jersey for him,
- 35:03Speaker 6: didn't ask him to, and he sent jersey formula. It
- 35:05Speaker 6: was a really cool thing. The last time that we
- 35:06Speaker 6: played each other, and we had kind of competed for
- 35:09Speaker 6: sevent eight years against each other and had a lot
- 35:11Speaker 6: of respect for him, and so I wanted to get
- 35:13Speaker 6: him a retirement gift. And the clubhouse guy, Danie Mueller,
- 35:17Speaker 6: who's one of my best friends, we were talking about
- 35:19Speaker 6: like what can we do for him?
- 35:20Speaker 5: And Adam's really into music.
- 35:21Speaker 1: And so yeah, country music startup.
- 35:24Speaker 6: Yeah, Yeah, it's like what if we had Eddie signed
- 35:27Speaker 6: some for him? So we reached out Eddie, could you know,
- 35:29Speaker 6: would you be willing to do this? He did, signed
- 35:32Speaker 6: a ukulele, He gave him a book, He wrote him
- 35:34Speaker 6: a letter like he did this whole thing, uh, that
- 35:37Speaker 6: we were able to send to Wino, and he really
- 35:40Speaker 6: appreciated it. It was just a really cool thing. But Eddie's
- 35:42Speaker 6: the nicest guy and willing to go out of his
- 35:44Speaker 6: way to do anything, and he can't say how much
- 35:47Speaker 6: like we appreciate that he wore my jersey on stage
- 35:49Speaker 6: the last time they played it regularly.
- 35:51Speaker 5: He had like three of my jerseys up there and
- 35:53Speaker 5: it was like this surreal.
- 35:55Speaker 1: I'll be in Mesa, Arizona with MLB Network and Mark
- 35:58Speaker 1: de Rosa the US I'll be able to see in
- 36:00Speaker 1: early March. So good luck with spring training, man, and
- 36:02Speaker 1: thank you so much of the time.
- 36:04Speaker 5: Some thanks, guys.
- 36:12Speaker 1: That's right, it's time for little something we call Cinephile.
- 36:15Speaker 1: In sixty the Academy Award nominations committed and who would
- 36:17Speaker 1: have expected again a trans musical involving a drug lord,
- 36:21Speaker 1: directed by a Frenchman getting thirteen nominations. But that's where
- 36:23Speaker 1: we are right now in Hollach, Amelia Perez thirteen nominations.
- 36:27Speaker 1: This is a movie which listen, I got through it,
- 36:29Speaker 1: and tallis and I boast that we appreciate the personality
- 36:32Speaker 1: and the audacity, but I wouldn't say it's a movie.
- 36:35Speaker 1: I'd recommend you were not crazy. But Amelia Perez, you
- 36:37Speaker 1: found it to be a grind.
- 36:38Speaker 2: Uh yeah, I grinded through it. I mean listen to
- 36:41Speaker 2: people in my wife's industry, which is the Broadway community
- 36:45Speaker 2: and the theater community, were like, this is trash.
- 36:49Speaker 1: Wow, they crushed it. The wicked people.
- 36:50Speaker 2: Nice, yeah, a lot of people, a lot of people.
- 36:53Speaker 2: And then you know me, and me and my wife
- 36:56Speaker 2: are just like looking at each other and we're like,
- 36:59Speaker 2: is this what is this? Is this good? I am like,
- 37:02Speaker 2: are you like? She's like, I don't know, she's I'm
- 37:04Speaker 2: honestly like she's like the music my biggest gripe with it.
- 37:08Speaker 2: If you're gonna do a musical, okay, a musical movie,
- 37:13Speaker 2: get some people that can sing.
- 37:15Speaker 1: You're out of Zois Saldana Selena Gomez.
- 37:17Speaker 2: No, like like those two are, but like you're talking
- 37:20Speaker 2: about like the like the the doctor that's.
- 37:23Speaker 1: Like past see the vagina plastic.
- 37:26Speaker 2: Scene one is awful, and then the doctor that she
- 37:28Speaker 2: goes and sees in Tel Aviv, like come on, Like,
- 37:31Speaker 2: if you're gonna speak sing, speak sing, get some real
- 37:34Speaker 2: people that can speak sing, like, come on, like you're
- 37:37Speaker 2: it's like the smallest role possible, And it's just it's
- 37:40Speaker 2: like it's like my dad off the street just coming
- 37:43Speaker 2: on and giving him, Hey, go do this. You know,
- 37:46Speaker 2: it's like, who's Jack, But he's a song whose grandfather
- 37:49Speaker 2: was this in the movie that they brought in and said, Hey,
- 37:51Speaker 2: we were a little low on budget, let's just huck this.
- 37:53Speaker 2: See how we all the money's in Zaldanna's hands and
- 37:57Speaker 2: and uh, who's Selena Gomes's hands? So I and I
- 38:00Speaker 2: mean even her stuff was I mean, okay, I don't know.
- 38:05Speaker 1: So that was a favorite to win an Academy Award.
- 38:07Speaker 1: You're telling me not only you're not careful the film,
- 38:09Speaker 1: you don't sounds you don't really care for her winning
- 38:10Speaker 1: an Oscar.
- 38:11Speaker 2: No Zoe's Aldona. I always like, I think she's what
- 38:13Speaker 2: a career. And I'm a huge, always all down a fan,
- 38:16Speaker 2: so good I thought, I just think the structure of
- 38:19Speaker 2: the movie was like, We're just like, what's going on?
- 38:22Speaker 1: One of the things I was most thrilled about when
- 38:23Speaker 1: I sell the nominations Best Picture, Best Director, Best Screenplay,
- 38:27Speaker 1: Best Actress, Best Supporting Actress, Anora great showing for Sean.
- 38:30Speaker 1: Baker has been a terrific independent filmmaker for years. Tangerine
- 38:34Speaker 1: the Florida Project. I interviewed Willem Dafoe on cine File
- 38:37Speaker 1: about that movie's previous film, Red Rocket, which Taal has seen,
- 38:40Speaker 1: which is about a male adult film star. So think
- 38:42Speaker 1: about Sean is he's gonna make movies involving sex, the
- 38:44Speaker 1: sex industry, et cetera. You have said before you thought
- 38:46Speaker 1: it was blue to WII, Jillian said the same thing.
- 38:48Speaker 1: I said, it's quite simply one of the best films
- 38:50Speaker 1: of the year. And now taw will sell the debate tale.
- 38:53Speaker 1: What did you think of Anora? I really liked it.
- 38:58Speaker 7: Yeah, and this is after I had a friend who
- 39:03Speaker 7: kind of was a spoiler and told me the whole
- 39:05Speaker 7: story before I had tried to see it. Anyways, shout
- 39:09Speaker 7: out my buddy Brett Rapkin. But anyways, I liked it
- 39:12Speaker 7: a lot. Like I get maybe every some people might
- 39:15Speaker 7: take issue with you know that many boobies on screen.
- 39:19Speaker 1: That's the work, this is the life she's she's a
- 39:21Speaker 1: sex worker. What do you want? That's exactly Russian?
- 39:26Speaker 7: Yeah, I mean, but Sean Baker, if you've seen his
- 39:28Speaker 7: other films, he focuses on people in that world, these
- 39:31Speaker 7: sort of marginalized people who are cast aside, and they
- 39:35Speaker 7: become his underdog. I thought Mikey Madison was excellent, fabulous.
- 39:39Speaker 7: And here's what I really liked about it is because,
- 39:41Speaker 7: like I said, I kind of knew the story going in.
- 39:43Speaker 7: I'm watching this thinking like this is a brutal love story.
- 39:47Speaker 1: Like I thought.
- 39:47Speaker 7: The The Russian Kid was like a completely irredeemable character.
- 39:52Speaker 1: You're Arisa, unbelievable.
- 39:54Speaker 7: Why is this girl falling No, the the the kid
- 39:59Speaker 7: that she married, Like, why is she falling in love
- 40:01Speaker 7: with this guy? And then you realize after a while, Oh,
- 40:04Speaker 7: this isn't a love story at all.
- 40:06Speaker 2: It's not a love story.
- 40:07Speaker 7: It's it's just when it turns into this chaotic, this
- 40:10Speaker 7: completely chaotic second act where things just she was.
- 40:13Speaker 1: Looking for a full care ring.
- 40:15Speaker 7: Okay, yeah, well yeah, well we knew exactly that. You're
- 40:19Speaker 7: making my point right there. It's not a love story.
- 40:22Speaker 7: It's instead this completely chaotic, you know, sequence of events
- 40:26Speaker 7: involving my guy.
- 40:27Speaker 1: And after we.
- 40:28Speaker 7: Were texting about Karen Karragoulian.
- 40:32Speaker 1: This guy's unblievable. Baker fans of the Armenian.
- 40:35Speaker 7: He's in a lot of Sean Baker's films. He was great,
- 40:37Speaker 7: he was awesome. As you know, he was leading the charge.
- 40:40Speaker 1: He literally goes from a Baptist like, what's going on
- 40:42Speaker 1: right now? He's losing his mind.
- 40:45Speaker 7: Yeah, he's like the fixer who's just trying to find
- 40:48Speaker 7: a way to fix this situation that.
- 40:51Speaker 1: May not be able to be fixed. I enjoy it.
- 40:58Speaker 2: Are you gonna let him finish.
- 41:01Speaker 4: No, I mean, that's it.
- 41:02Speaker 2: I'm I'm I'm in on No.
- 41:05Speaker 7: Is it the best movie of the year, I don't know,
- 41:07Speaker 7: but I I really enjoyed it, and Mikey Madison was
- 41:10Speaker 7: very impressive.
- 41:11Speaker 1: I like tur She was on a show called Better.
- 41:13Speaker 7: Things where she played Pamela Adlon's daughter, completely different character,
- 41:17Speaker 7: so she showed her range. She spoke with the Brooklynese dialect.
- 41:22Speaker 7: She speaks Russian.
- 41:23Speaker 2: She learned dic to get to she.
- 41:26Speaker 1: Learned how to dance. If you can call.
- 41:28Speaker 2: It, it's a hard job.
- 41:30Speaker 1: There you go, It's hard.
- 41:31Speaker 2: It's hard to take your tits out.
- 41:34Speaker 1: He's right.
- 41:34Speaker 4: She had to go.
- 41:35Speaker 1: Headquarters is an actual strip club. She went there to
- 41:37Speaker 1: learn how to be a stripper. You think that's an
- 41:39Speaker 1: easy job for every actress? Is still there?
- 41:41Speaker 7: Do all this, do do all the slut shaming you want.
- 41:46Speaker 1: But I'm.
- 41:49Speaker 2: There is no Russian for there is there is no slutsching.
- 41:54Speaker 2: It just said, I just go, Can I can?
- 41:56Speaker 1: I go?
- 41:56Speaker 2: Now? I mean, I'm not surprised by your review with
- 41:59Speaker 2: that mustache, I'm not surprised. Creep wanting creep too, I'm
- 42:02Speaker 2: not surprised.
- 42:04Speaker 1: There's a marginalized communities.
- 42:08Speaker 2: There's a reason why Only Fans is as popular as
- 42:12Speaker 2: it is and why movies like this win. It's nothing
- 42:15Speaker 2: against the women. Hey, you can get your money. You
- 42:17Speaker 2: get your goddamn money, because there's enough of you around
- 42:21Speaker 2: there just to be like, this is great.
- 42:23Speaker 1: It's a love story. You know, it's exposed. You all
- 42:27Speaker 1: thought once.
- 42:27Speaker 2: In your life you are at a strip club that
- 42:29Speaker 2: the stripper loved you. That's why all once in your life,
- 42:32Speaker 2: it's a love story.
- 42:34Speaker 1: As far as worst nominations, because really that's what people
- 42:36Speaker 1: want to get into. Mary and Jean Baptiste a snub
- 42:39Speaker 1: for Hard Truths, which is one of the best films
- 42:41Speaker 1: of the year. She won every major Quittics Prize New
- 42:43Speaker 1: York LA film Chris can't get an Oscar nomination. Nicole
- 42:47Speaker 1: Kidman snub for Baby Girl. I have noise with that.
- 42:49Speaker 1: It's gonna be a Demi More Mikey Madison showing it
- 42:51Speaker 1: for Best Actress. But I see the Florida Jason de
- 42:53Speaker 1: Burrs because he's passionate about this and he's right. How
- 42:55Speaker 1: can done to be nominated for Best Picture? How can
- 42:58Speaker 1: get nominated for slovas or categories and get the director
- 43:01Speaker 1: who's one of the best directors working today, Denise Villenue,
- 43:03Speaker 1: French Canadian on these great films, Arrival, terrific movie, Prisoners excellently.
- 43:08Speaker 1: My guy can't get nomin for an Austria for Dune too,
- 43:10Speaker 1: so the.
- 43:11Speaker 2: Movie directed itself French prejudice. I thought, I thought Trudeau
- 43:15Speaker 2: being out Canada was back and dannyville Nev not getting
- 43:19Speaker 2: a bump for this is insane. I mean, you can't
- 43:22Speaker 2: get all those nominations and not who's the Who's the
- 43:25Speaker 2: one putting it all together? Danny ville Nev done too.
- 43:30Speaker 2: It was so good, that's one of your favorite movies
- 43:33Speaker 2: of the year. Then that was true, I know, like
- 43:35Speaker 2: I I think listen, I never said Aenor wasn't bad.
- 43:39Speaker 2: I said it was good. I said, it's it's imporant though,
- 43:41Speaker 2: but anyway, it's important for the first act.
- 43:43Speaker 1: Well, it's just a mistic that you watched with your
- 43:44Speaker 1: mother in law. I get Gillian's mom.
- 43:46Speaker 3: The fact you watched it with it, that's hilarious.
- 43:58Speaker 1: Our next guy sports betting analysts for Snapback Sports, and
- 44:02Speaker 1: I'm a huge Philadelphia Eagles fan, Tim, so I want
- 44:04Speaker 1: to at your thoughts during Eagles in just a second,
- 44:06Speaker 1: but Tim Kalanowski joins us right now, I want to
- 44:08Speaker 1: get your insights first off, in the world of hockey,
- 44:10Speaker 1: the four Nations face off almost here fall by the
- 44:13Speaker 1: trade deadline. We've already had that major blockbuster of course
- 44:16Speaker 1: of Ranton and Natures, et cetera. What do you see
- 44:18Speaker 1: it coming up at this most interesting point in the season.
- 44:20Speaker 1: Four nations right around the corner.
- 44:22Speaker 8: It's it's tough because this is the time in the
- 44:24Speaker 8: season right where you get those you know, dog days
- 44:28Speaker 8: type feeling and you know, as it better, it becomes
- 44:31Speaker 8: pretty tough to handicap, right, you know, all of a sudden,
- 44:34Speaker 8: you got this Islanders team on a bit of a heater,
- 44:36Speaker 8: and you know, the trade stuff. It's just exciting for
- 44:39Speaker 8: the league. Like it's just it's the perfect timing for
- 44:43Speaker 8: the NHL. And I think with four nations coming up,
- 44:45Speaker 8: you get a blockbuster trade on a Friday night. I'm
- 44:47Speaker 8: excited about the league because you've got to take advantage
- 44:50Speaker 8: of this kind of area and the sports calendar.
- 44:52Speaker 4: So I think I'll be going to the final in
- 44:55Speaker 4: Boston of the foreign Nations.
- 44:57Speaker 8: So I mean, selfishly, I'm hoping for Canada, USA that
- 45:01Speaker 8: that's kind of my feeling.
- 45:02Speaker 4: But it's exciting time to be a hockey fan.
- 45:04Speaker 2: I mean, we're all hoping for Canada. Usay that rivalry
- 45:07Speaker 2: is just the best. But you are a Bruins fan.
- 45:09Speaker 2: Sorry about last night losing a Buffalo Sabers ask to thing,
- 45:14Speaker 2: but I'm wondered, do you, you know, being a big
- 45:16Speaker 2: Boston fan and you know handicapping, do you kind of
- 45:19Speaker 2: focus a lot on certain players or the team as
- 45:21Speaker 2: a whole.
- 45:22Speaker 4: The team as a whole.
- 45:23Speaker 8: I think, you know, one of the best best ways
- 45:26Speaker 8: to start in any sport, right if you're betting, is
- 45:29Speaker 8: focus on one team, right, and then you know when
- 45:32Speaker 8: they're playing a back to back, when they're playing three
- 45:34Speaker 8: and four, what kind of form they're in. And I
- 45:37Speaker 8: look at this Bruins team and I have been too
- 45:40Speaker 8: early on trying to fade the Bruins.
- 45:41Speaker 4: For about the past five years.
- 45:43Speaker 8: I've been thinking, you know, oh, no more, this is
- 45:46Speaker 8: you know, this is the year it all goes down.
- 45:47Speaker 8: And you know, then they had that year where they
- 45:49Speaker 8: broke the point record with Montgomery and all that, so
- 45:52Speaker 8: I felt that this was coming in some sort of
- 45:54Speaker 8: a sense. But now the Bruins in this really tough spot,
- 45:57Speaker 8: right which which is you know, a lot of the
- 45:59Speaker 8: league faces this is do you sell you? Is marshand
- 46:02Speaker 8: on the table? All that sort of stuff. That's a
- 46:04Speaker 8: big discussion in Boston right now. I am at the
- 46:07Speaker 8: point I'm at the age, you know, I look at
- 46:10Speaker 8: this like I like drama. You know, I'm a little
- 46:12Speaker 8: spoiled as a as a Boston sports fan.
- 46:14Speaker 4: I've seen a lot of championships.
- 46:17Speaker 8: The drama is fun to me in the storyline of
- 46:19Speaker 8: what they are going to do. And I just hope
- 46:22Speaker 8: that they do something, whether it like make a choice,
- 46:24Speaker 8: whatever it is, make a decision.
- 46:27Speaker 2: Bye, they have to buy it because otherwise it's everything
- 46:30Speaker 2: falls on management. Right now, it's.
- 46:32Speaker 8: I'm kind of a little more lenient to the cell category,
- 46:36Speaker 8: to be honest. Wow, you know, I just like it
- 46:40Speaker 8: all started with, you know, the Swamen contract, and I
- 46:43Speaker 8: think that that just got this team off to this
- 46:45Speaker 8: really tough start, and it's it's kind of been an excuse,
- 46:49Speaker 8: right like, oh, we didn't have a good camp because
- 46:51Speaker 8: of all of that, and I just feel like something
- 46:53Speaker 8: has to change here. You can't continue to just get
- 46:56Speaker 8: in and be a one and done right over and
- 46:59Speaker 8: over again. I know that's good for good for the gate,
- 47:01Speaker 8: you get your ticket sales for home playoff games all that,
- 47:04Speaker 8: but they're in this this kind of this purgatory that
- 47:06Speaker 8: we see across all sports, and I would like to
- 47:09Speaker 8: see what it looked like if they if they sold
- 47:11Speaker 8: a couple of pieces off.
- 47:12Speaker 1: To be honest, some called parties, some call it purgatory.
- 47:15Speaker 1: We're talking to Tim right now. That's hockey. Let's talk
- 47:17Speaker 1: some football. Been an Eagles fan since nineteen ninety course,
- 47:20Speaker 1: Raynal Cunningham and Reggie White, Jerome Brown, that whole ara.
- 47:22Speaker 1: I I've had one super Bowl, but I'm getting grady, Tim,
- 47:24Speaker 1: I want to second one right now. How about some
- 47:26Speaker 1: of the prop bets? Those are always fun to look at.
- 47:28Speaker 1: We could talk sa kuon Barkley and hurts her some mahomes.
- 47:30Speaker 1: It give me some prop bets.
- 47:32Speaker 8: My goal for I've been doing this for you know,
- 47:34Speaker 8: many super bowls in a row. Now my ghost always
- 47:36Speaker 8: have thirty plus props on the sheet. What it's look
- 47:40Speaker 8: Super Bowl Sunday for me personally, I hate it. It's
- 47:45Speaker 8: you know, you're getting invited to the Super Bowl party,
- 47:47Speaker 8: and like I just I want to be alone I
- 47:50Speaker 8: want to watch the game, and it's usually I get
- 47:52Speaker 8: there's a point where I'm invited to enough thing or
- 47:55Speaker 8: something that I just can't say no, So I need
- 47:58Speaker 8: something to distract me. And I show up with the
- 47:59Speaker 8: legal pad of you know, a hundred of these prop bets,
- 48:03Speaker 8: and you know, just right I look at it's like
- 48:05Speaker 8: a celebration of the end of the season. So I
- 48:08Speaker 8: like to, you know, go into a lot of the
- 48:10Speaker 8: more you know, fun ones, not necessarily the Gator eight
- 48:12Speaker 8: and all that, but like one that I haven't bett
- 48:14Speaker 8: in every Super Bowl is players to have a pass
- 48:17Speaker 8: attempt over two.
- 48:19Speaker 4: And a half.
- 48:20Speaker 8: So you see in the in this comed right Philly special,
- 48:22Speaker 8: you get, you know, one of these running backs receivers
- 48:25Speaker 8: in that suite throw a past. That's always a fun
- 48:27Speaker 8: one to jump up and say I had that, and
- 48:29Speaker 8: people you can bet on that, you.
- 48:30Speaker 4: Go, yeah, I had that. I had that.
- 48:31Speaker 8: So that's always my favorite over two and a half,
- 48:34Speaker 8: players to have a pass attempt.
- 48:36Speaker 2: Okay, well, I got to get into the biggest one
- 48:39Speaker 2: of this. Who's winning it?
- 48:40Speaker 5: Though?
- 48:40Speaker 2: Who do you got?
- 48:41Speaker 1: Who? You like it?
- 48:42Speaker 2: Because ad NaN's staring through the screen right now, Eagles
- 48:45Speaker 2: fan there.
- 48:45Speaker 8: Yeah, it's it's tough, fellas, It's really tough. I mean,
- 48:50Speaker 8: I took like a month ago, I took the AFC
- 48:53Speaker 8: to win the Super Bowl, and I go, oh, look
- 48:55Speaker 8: at all this value I'm getting.
- 48:56Speaker 4: I got a minus one fifteen to win the Super Bowl.
- 48:59Speaker 8: Chiefs come out, you know, spread spread air, the lines,
- 49:01Speaker 8: you know, money linees pretty much minus one twenty five.
- 49:03Speaker 8: So I'm like, yeah, might ten cents for a month early.
- 49:05Speaker 8: So I'm I'm actually, you know, I'm gonna pick the
- 49:09Speaker 8: Chiefs here, I am, and I do. I do think
- 49:12Speaker 8: Philly makes for a great matchup. Here's the thing for me,
- 49:15Speaker 8: I'm going down in New Orleans for Radio Row and
- 49:17Speaker 8: all that. I just can't stand the discourse.
- 49:20Speaker 4: Of the refs. The refs it's rigged.
- 49:22Speaker 8: Like for me, when you start to get into that conversation,
- 49:24Speaker 8: it's just then why watch? Like then if I start
- 49:27Speaker 8: to if I believe it's you know, fake or whatever
- 49:30Speaker 8: it's like, then then what am I doing here?
- 49:32Speaker 4: Then?
- 49:32Speaker 8: My watch coach, just go do something else, Go watch Severance,
- 49:35Speaker 8: Go go go do something else.
- 49:36Speaker 2: Hell of a show.
- 49:37Speaker 4: I love it.
- 49:38Speaker 2: Oh, I still started last night. But that that is
- 49:42Speaker 2: funny that people that don't like the Chiefs are just
- 49:45Speaker 2: watching the refs. So the refs are probably the most watched.
- 49:47Speaker 2: People sore just watching the refs the whole game when
- 49:50Speaker 2: it's the Chiefs and yeah, the reps are rigging it,
- 49:52Speaker 2: but you know, just watch it. Just enjoyed fans.
- 49:54Speaker 7: It was.
- 49:54Speaker 8: It was the highest rated AFC Championship game ever for TV.
- 49:57Speaker 8: So all you people you're still watching.
- 50:01Speaker 1: Apparently you have your own am I wrong? Segment, which
- 50:04Speaker 1: is that we do here on NHL inscripted. You were
- 50:06Speaker 1: very fire up the big b U BC game last weekend?
- 50:09Speaker 8: Oh how how ridiculous was this? Did you see the
- 50:13Speaker 8: the call in warm up? When, yes, ridiculous. So Todd
- 50:18Speaker 8: Angeli sings the anthem for BUBC. The guy who does
- 50:21Speaker 8: the Bruins anthem, beautiful anthem places juiced.
- 50:24Speaker 4: I'm like, ah, this is.
- 50:25Speaker 8: Awesome, and the you know they're playing, the bands playing
- 50:29Speaker 8: all this referee comes on the thing and he says,
- 50:31Speaker 8: turned down the music.
- 50:32Speaker 4: He says, He goes, uh, we're starting the game with a.
- 50:36Speaker 8: Two minute minor to BU for coming onto the ice
- 50:39Speaker 8: too early for warm up. BC starts with the power
- 50:41Speaker 8: play and was nineteen seconds in won nothing that ends
- 50:45Speaker 8: up deciding the game. I would have been if pandolf
- 50:48Speaker 8: it was pretty pissed.
- 50:49Speaker 4: I don't know.
- 50:49Speaker 8: I mean, I'm an assistant coach for high school hockey
- 50:52Speaker 8: in my town.
- 50:53Speaker 4: I would have been. I make I might have gotten
- 50:55Speaker 4: the boot. It was.
- 50:56Speaker 2: It is a rule the Russian. It was like the
- 51:00Speaker 2: it was like the kids first game, you can't come
- 51:02Speaker 2: on before the refs in call hockey, right, And whoever
- 51:06Speaker 2: was manning the door just opened the door and said like,
- 51:09Speaker 2: you're good to go. So this kid jumps on the
- 51:11Speaker 2: ice the first game, they closed the door and them,
- 51:14Speaker 2: me and the refs aren't even out yet. It's not
- 51:16Speaker 2: the kids like a loan on the ice and they
- 51:18Speaker 2: call the penalties. So I think that whoever was in
- 51:21Speaker 2: the building, whoever was running that door, is at fault
- 51:24Speaker 2: just as much. But it's a stupid ass rule. The
- 51:26Speaker 2: fact that they do that, it's crazy.
- 51:28Speaker 4: And Pandolfo said they shut the door on him when
- 51:30Speaker 4: he got that's what it was.
- 51:31Speaker 1: Yeah, Tim, this is excellent work out of you. We'll
- 51:35Speaker 1: have you back on unscripted.
- 51:36Speaker 4: Appreciate you, guys. Thank you.
- 51:38Speaker 1: A few minutes here in the Eagle Super Bowl, the
- 51:40Speaker 1: fifth Super Bowl my lifetime is an Eagles fan. The
- 51:43Speaker 1: fact that the Troit lines are number one seed and
- 51:46Speaker 1: I go listen to win in Detroit, maybe it's team
- 51:48Speaker 1: of desty blah blah blah. I'm like, no, we gotta
- 51:49Speaker 1: get this done here. And the fact that once the
- 51:51Speaker 1: lines were knocked up, massive favor done for us. I
- 51:54Speaker 1: wasn't worried about the Rams who took care of business
- 51:55Speaker 1: against them. And then as far as the commanders were concerned,
- 51:58Speaker 1: I watched that game, Jade Daniels five touchdowns, How great
- 52:01Speaker 1: he was. I said, Jane Daniels is not gonna do
- 52:03Speaker 1: that again. And to watch that that kind of a game,
- 52:05Speaker 1: I mean, fifty five twenty three is a very misleading
- 52:07Speaker 1: score because going into the half it was fourteen to twelve.
- 52:09Speaker 1: Washington scored, down Philly scored, and it was still an
- 52:12Speaker 1: eleven point game, thirty four to twenty three. But I
- 52:14Speaker 1: gotta tell you this, Jay, I don't know what a
- 52:16Speaker 1: hockey comp I can make for you. But how about this.
- 52:18Speaker 1: If I see the explosive offense, you always think of
- 52:20Speaker 1: an aerial attack. When's the last time he said explosive offense?
- 52:23Speaker 1: And it was a running game. Three rushing touchdowns for
- 52:25Speaker 1: Saquon Barkley, three rushing touchdowns for Jaellen Hurts, a rushing
- 52:29Speaker 1: touchdown for Shipley, the rookie a of Clemson, seven rushing
- 52:32Speaker 1: touchdowns Kellen Moore, the Eagles offensive corner, has brought running
- 52:35Speaker 1: games back to being exciting behind a dominant offensive line.
- 52:39Speaker 1: Dickerson's a pro bowler, Lane Johnson's a pro bowl at
- 52:41Speaker 1: Cam Jurgens. The Eagles ran the ball at will. And
- 52:43Speaker 1: I know Mahomes the chiefs of the favorite, and I
- 52:45Speaker 1: get that, But Baby, can this team run the ball?
- 52:48Speaker 2: The GM of the New York Giants should be taken,
- 52:51Speaker 2: thrown on a rocket ship and thrown to Mars. To
- 52:53Speaker 2: even think to even think to not keep Sakuon Barkley,
- 52:58Speaker 2: He that man, That man can run, and holy shit
- 53:03Speaker 2: is he good?
- 53:04Speaker 1: First he touches the ball, breaks your tackle. Six touchdown.
- 53:09Speaker 2: God, we have another Super Bowl of Mahomes read Taylor, Jacksons,
- 53:16Speaker 2: Jackson Mahomes is back again. Guess who's back Jackson Mahomes
- 53:22Speaker 2: and Taylor Swift again. I've had enough of her uncle
- 53:26Speaker 2: on Taylor Swift, Uncle, I listen, okay, supporting good sweet
- 53:30Speaker 2: that maybe a love story could be orchestrated. Who knows,
- 53:33Speaker 2: Maybe it was and they fell in love. But all
- 53:37Speaker 2: of our hopes and dreams rest on Saguan Barclay and
- 53:41Speaker 2: the Philadelphia I'm an Eagles fan, and I tell you
- 53:44Speaker 2: that is the most atrocious fan base an any fan base,
- 53:48Speaker 2: any Philadelphia sports team is the most atrocious fan base.
- 53:51Speaker 2: But I'm on board with them, and I'm fly Eagles Fly.
- 53:55Speaker 1: Super Bowl is not until two weeks away, So next
- 53:57Speaker 1: week in NHL Descripted, me and Jason will get more
- 53:59Speaker 1: thoughts to the super Bowl, Eagles and Chiefs, of course
- 54:01Speaker 1: all your great hockey topics. Thanks for our guest today,
- 54:03Speaker 1: Ian Happ and Tim Kwanowski'd love the pop bets there
- 54:06Speaker 1: from Tim. Good to hear him talking Eagles as well.
