- 0:48Speaker 1: Welcome to today's edition of Reflection on the Word with
- 0:50Speaker 1: Richard K. I'm Chuck Christie, and today we are asking
- 0:54Speaker 1: you to spend a few moments of your time with
- 0:56Speaker 1: us each day as Richard shares from God's Word with notes, quotes,
- 1:00Speaker 1: and stories along with some of his own personal experiences,
- 1:03Speaker 1: to confirm for you God's great love for us, that
- 1:06Speaker 1: his compassion for us never fails, and that He has
- 1:08Speaker 1: a great faithfulness toward us in every regard. In Lamentations,
- 1:12Speaker 1: Chapter three, verses twenty two and twenty three, we read,
- 1:16Speaker 1: because of the Lord's great love, we are not consumed,
- 1:20Speaker 1: for his compassions never fail. They are new every morning.
- 1:24Speaker 1: Great is your faithfulness. Now, if you miss a portion
- 1:27Speaker 1: of today's broadcast or would like to recommend it to
- 1:29Speaker 1: a friend, you can hear this program anytime online at
- 1:33Speaker 1: Talknetwork Radio dot com. Well, now here's Richard with today's reflection.
- 1:39Speaker 2: When Jesus came to the region of Cesarea Philippi, he
- 1:43Speaker 2: asked his disciples, who do people say that the Son
- 1:47Speaker 2: of Man is? And they said, some say John the Baptist,
- 1:53Speaker 2: others Elijah still others Jeremiah or one of the prophets.
- 1:59Speaker 2: But you ask them, who do you say that I
- 2:03Speaker 2: am Simon. Peter answered, you are the Messiah, the son
- 2:09Speaker 2: of the Living God. And Jesus responded, Simon, son of Jonah,
- 2:16Speaker 2: you are blessed because flesh and blood did not reveal
- 2:20Speaker 2: this to you, but my father in Heaven. And I
- 2:24Speaker 2: also say to you that you are Peter. And on
- 2:28Speaker 2: this rock I will build my church, and the forces
- 2:32Speaker 2: of Hades will not overpower it. I will give you
- 2:36Speaker 2: the keys of the Kingdom of Heaven. And whatever you
- 2:40Speaker 2: bind on earth is already bound in Heaven, and whatever
- 2:44Speaker 2: you loose on earth is already loosed in Heaven. Matthew
- 2:52Speaker 2: Chapter sixteen, Verses thirteen through nineteen. You know, we began
- 3:00Speaker 2: a series called Seven Keys to Christian Living. We want
- 3:05Speaker 2: to be able to continue that by discussing more in
- 3:10Speaker 2: detail the keys which Jesus provided to his church. You know,
- 3:18Speaker 2: as we look at the scripture, we see that Jesus
- 3:23Speaker 2: asked the question who do you say that I am?
- 3:28Speaker 2: When he asked that question, he already knew what their
- 3:32Speaker 2: thoughts were, but he wanted to hear what their own
- 3:37Speaker 2: determination was. Now, remember, these disciples followers of Jesus, had
- 3:45Speaker 2: been with them for quite some time. They had watched
- 3:49Speaker 2: him as he healed the sick, as he performed many
- 3:55Speaker 2: miraculous works. They saw him as he walked on water.
- 4:02Speaker 2: They visualized him as he commanded that the storm stopped,
- 4:12Speaker 2: and it did so many things that they witnessed. And
- 4:16Speaker 2: yet everyone, with the exception of Simon Peter did not
- 4:24Speaker 2: truly recognize him. And so because of this, Peter had
- 4:31Speaker 2: been selected. And I want to talk about this term
- 4:37Speaker 2: that is used and on this rock, because what we're
- 4:42Speaker 2: looking at is the established guide for expanding the Kingdom
- 4:49Speaker 2: of God. That was the whole reason that Peter was
- 4:54Speaker 2: given the keys. Now we talked about these keys and
- 5:00Speaker 2: labeled them or described them as ex keys or x keys.
- 5:07Speaker 2: The reason that we call them that is because of
- 5:10Speaker 2: their extreme nature, because they come directly from God to
- 5:17Speaker 2: empower each of his followers. When Jesus responded, and he said, Simon,
- 5:28Speaker 2: son of Jonah. That was his given name, Jonah being
- 5:33Speaker 2: his father, Simon being a fisherman there at the Sea
- 5:39Speaker 2: of Galilee. But in this recognition, Jesus does something significant.
- 5:49Speaker 2: He changes Peter's name. Listen to what he says. He says,
- 5:58Speaker 2: and also I say to you that you are Peter,
- 6:04Speaker 2: and on this rock I will build my church, and
- 6:11Speaker 2: the forces of Hades will not overpower. Now, one of
- 6:17Speaker 2: the things that he stated was that Peter, and using
- 6:22Speaker 2: the term in the Greek as it's translated, is the
- 6:28Speaker 2: word petros. Petros was a given name for a specific
- 6:37Speaker 2: definition of a rock or a stone. That's what he
- 6:44Speaker 2: called Peter. But then he added, he said, and on
- 6:50Speaker 2: this rock, and the word used here is Petra. There's
- 6:57Speaker 2: a very close similarity. Peter from Petros means that it's
- 7:05Speaker 2: the personal name, but Petra means a craggy rock, or
- 7:14Speaker 2: if you will, a bedrock, like a foundation rock, a bedrock.
- 7:22Speaker 2: And that's the reason that he said, upon this rock,
- 7:27Speaker 2: the rock of the knowledge of who Jesus is, he
- 7:35Speaker 2: will build his church. And he says here that the
- 7:41Speaker 2: gates of Haiti are the forces of Hades. Some translations
- 7:46Speaker 2: even say that the gates of Hell will not overpower.
- 7:54Speaker 2: And because of this he is establishing an order, not
- 8:00Speaker 2: a hierarchy, but a principal order. Because he says to Peter,
- 8:08Speaker 2: I will give you the keys of the Kingdom of Heaven,
- 8:12Speaker 2: and whatever you bind on earth is already bound in Heaven.
- 8:17Speaker 2: And whatever you loose on earth is already loosed in heaven.
- 8:23Speaker 2: How does Peter learn to use the keys, and more importantly,
- 8:32Speaker 2: how does he learn to teach others the same usage.
- 8:41Speaker 2: Remember that the seven keys that we define are perfect
- 8:48Speaker 2: given by God for the ultimate purpose of expanding his
- 8:55Speaker 2: kingdom here on earth. The seven keys were to exalt
- 9:01Speaker 2: God's name, to expect God's grace, to express God's love,
- 9:06Speaker 2: to extend God's forgiveness, experience God's provision, explode God's power,
- 9:15Speaker 2: and ultimately expand God's kingdom. Remember, we are not self
- 9:24Speaker 2: improved beings. We are transformed, empowered children of the Almighty God.
- 9:36Speaker 2: And the scripture reminds us that it is the Father's
- 9:42Speaker 2: good pleasure to give us the Kingdom. Now, he's not
- 9:47Speaker 2: giving us the kingdom so that we can relish in it.
- 9:51Speaker 2: He's giving us the kingdom so we can fill it
- 9:55Speaker 2: with those who will come to know the Messiah, the
- 10:02Speaker 2: Sun of the Living God.
- 10:06Speaker 1: Richard will be right back in a moment to wrap up.
- 10:09Speaker 1: But if you've just joined us, you've been listening to

- 10:46Speaker 1: and printed by Discovery House Publishers. Again, here is Richard
- 10:50Speaker 1: to wrap up today's message.
- 10:54Speaker 2: When he asked the question and Peter answer, he changed
- 11:02Speaker 2: his name. He established the bedrock foundation for which the
- 11:10Speaker 2: church would be developed, and he gave the keys of
- 11:16Speaker 2: the Kingdom of Heaven. Remember, keys are used to lock
- 11:25Speaker 2: and unlocked. The word that is used in the scripture
- 11:30Speaker 2: is bind or loose. Notice the similarity, and he says
- 11:38Speaker 2: in Matthew chapter sixteen and verse nineteen. I will give
- 11:46Speaker 2: you the keys of the Kingdom of Heaven. And whatever
- 11:50Speaker 2: you bind on earth is already bound in Heaven. And
- 11:55Speaker 2: whatever you loose on earth is already loose in Heaven.
- 12:03Speaker 2: Are the seven keys at work in your life? I
- 12:10Speaker 2: pray they are. And that is today's Reflection on the Word.
- 12:18Speaker 1: Thank you, Richard. Join us again tomorrow when we continue
- 12:22Speaker 1: with the next edition of Reflections on the Word with
