- 0:28to day three of our camino francis journey i
- 0:31actually recorded five segments on the day but i've
- 0:34only been able to publish two the first and the last there was just too much
- 0:39wind around for segments two three and four to publish the the quality of the
- 0:44audio was just was just so low pity i can't publish those because they've been
- 0:48they're easily the best work i've ever done they were hilarious full of excitement adventure except No,
- 0:54we'll get the audio sorted for tomorrow, day four, and I'll try and record when
- 0:59there's not so much wind around.
- 1:00Thanks for listening and enjoy segments one and five of day three.
- 1:05Good morning, it's day three. We're just leaving Ronson Valles,
- 1:10heading to a town called Biscoretta.
- 1:13This is the beginning of stage two of the Camino Francis.
- 1:17What we'll do is actually do two stages in three days.
- 1:22So we're after Biscoretta, we'll head to Larissa Rona and then on to Pamploma,
- 1:28running into the Bull's Place.
- 1:29And that's where we'll have our first rest day, we think.
- 1:33It's cold. The windchill factor is making it exceptionally cold.
- 1:39And we're from the tropics, so we're definitely feeling it. Last night was an experience.
- 1:47Let me tell you a bit about that. Firstly, we had a beautiful Mass to start
- 1:52with, a Pilgrim's Mass in Spanish, in Latin, a special Pilgrim's blessing during the Mass.
- 2:01A beautiful church and there are just so many little things they did during
- 2:06the Mass to make it special as well so that was a lovely family experience,
- 2:13as we are on this pilgrimage, a religious pilgrimage to Santiago de Compostela where the remains of St.
- 2:21James laying the crypt so that was a lovely Mass that we had last night,
- 2:27And if you listen to the last episode, we spoke about what we're putting down
- 2:32as our first big mistake of the Camino, and we'll take all these mistakes in our stride,
- 2:37but we had booked our accommodation in a completely different town. So well done to us there.
- 2:43The backup plan always is, not that we want to do this, is take a dormitory bed in an albergue.
- 2:51He's more than happy to take a private room in an albergue, but as a family
- 2:57with a young child, having a private room, having her own space in a private
- 3:03bathroom, these things all really appeal to us.
- 3:06So we had to take a dormitory bed.
- 3:10It was two dormitories. I think each dormitory probably had about, I don't know,
- 3:1612 beds in each dormitory,
- 3:20shared facilities for toilets
- 3:23and showers and they were shared co-ed facilities
- 3:27so that was not something that we expected either but
- 3:31it was a bed and it was warmer in
- 3:34there than it was outside we were able to get a nice dinner there as well as
- 3:39part of our ticket chan and sherrylyn had the chicken i had the fish me having
- 3:45the fish will be a recurring theme i'm sure an interesting thing about the albergue,
- 3:53was the smell.
- 3:56Yeah, pilgrims walking along and jamming 12 of them into a dormitory, a small dormitory.
- 4:04Not the greatest smell in the world. And sleep, a little bit interrupted by the snorers in the room.
- 4:12Hopefully we were not one of those snorers. I managed to get about four hours last night.
- 4:18Sherilyn says she got zero hours sleep.
- 4:22And Chan said he didn't get much sleep either.
- 4:26So we've had the dormitory albergue experience now. We're thankful that we had
- 4:33that experience and thankful that there was a bed available.
- 4:36But where possible, we will try and have private rooms along the way.
- 4:43Now, what is mounting as possibly our second mistake is the cash situation.
- 4:51Because of our emergency accommodation last night, we used some cash last night
- 4:58and we've got a second lot of cash.
- 5:01But i think we're about three euros short of
- 5:03the next place now and the atm that we've just been
- 5:06to was out of power so not working so another note
- 5:10to self draw out more money from the atm
- 5:13more money than you think you need because although
- 5:17you can use card at many places along the way some places are
- 5:20cash only so going to get creative along
- 5:23the path today somehow i need to make three euro on the camino path so if you've
- 5:33got any suggestions send some through social media comments there but we need
- 5:38to make three euro before we get to bizcoretta.
- 5:42Okay, so that's the end of day three. We've arrived in Biscoretta.
- 5:46We're at our accommodation and it's fantastic. We've got access to our own kitchen.
- 5:50So we're able to buy things from the shop and cook and prepare them,
- 5:54even make our own tea and coffee,
- 5:56etc., which we're really looking forward to just being able to prepare something
- 6:00that we might usually eat at home rather than eating something that contains bread.
- 6:06Whilst walking along, we saw some
- 6:07signs that said Ernest Hemingway used to spend some time in this area.
- 6:13This area is known as the Navarra region, if I'm pronouncing that correctly,
- 6:17like the Nissen-Navarra, maybe.
- 6:19Yeah, he used to spend some time here and write in this area and also use the
- 6:24environment around as inspiration for some of the sceneries that might appear in his novels, etc.
- 6:32So we're here in Biz Coretta. Tomorrow, we look to be going a little bit longer
- 6:39tomorrow, probably about 16 Ks to Larasarona.
- 6:43And then the next day, we aim to get into Pamplona.
- 6:47But we need a good night of rest and hydration. This morning started very early.
- 6:53I had a little bit of sleep. My wife and son didn't have so much.
- 6:57But I started the day feeling very dehydrated, massive headache.
- 7:03And I put that down to a few things.
- 7:05I hadn't had a coffee in about two days, so that's not going to do me any good.
- 7:12I'm someone who drinks a fair amount of tea and coffee.
- 7:15Dehydrated from wearing a lot of gear whilst walking, but it was cold in the
- 7:21dormitory, so I laid up whilst trying to get some sleep, so that would have
- 7:25dehydrated me a little bit more.
- 7:27And just the cold the cold I think dries dries you out a little bit so headache
- 7:32started to dissipate across the morning we had a nice breakfast and you got
- 7:38plenty of fluids in us into us across the day so headache is gone now need a
- 7:43good night's sleep so we can get ready for day four.
