- 1:06SPEAKER_01: I'm Jacqueline Schuminger, your host, and today I want to welcome our amazing guest, Wendy Archuletta.
- 1:16SPEAKER_01: Holy crap! Let me just tell you, ladies and gentlemen, she is one hot ticket.
- 1:20SPEAKER_01: When I talk about leading a team and the growth she has vision, passion, performance.
- 1:28SPEAKER_01: She has had a great career.
- 1:30SPEAKER_01: But I just want you guys to meet this amazing woman who, again, is leading an amazing team.
- 1:36SPEAKER_01: She's been at Remax, she's at Remax Professionals now.
- 1:39SPEAKER_01: She has been at Sotheby's.
- 1:40SPEAKER_01: But Wendy, share a little bit of your background and tell everyone so people can hear your greatness.
- 1:46SPEAKER_01: And welcome to the case.
- 1:47SPEAKER_00: I'm not even sure where to go at this point.
- 1:48SPEAKER_00: Oh my gosh, that was like super awesome.
- 1:51SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 1:52SPEAKER_00: Wendy Archuletta, um, here in Reno.
- 1:54SPEAKER_00: I run my own team through Remax Professionals Real Estate.
- 1:58SPEAKER_00: And we we do mostly luxury within the Reno area, a little bit up at Lake Tahoe as well.
- 2:04SPEAKER_00: I've been in real estate nearly 12 years.
- 2:07SPEAKER_00: I just started a team.
- 2:08SPEAKER_00: Oh my gosh, not even six months ago.
- 2:10SPEAKER_00: And it's been game-changing.
- 2:12SPEAKER_00: So when I was with Southerby's, I was an independent luxury agent.
- 2:16SPEAKER_00: And that was great too.
- 2:17SPEAKER_00: But my daughter's coming aboard next year when she graduates from college.
- 2:20SPEAKER_00: So I wanted to make sure that she was getting great splits and I was able to help her along the way as a team member, not just an independent agent, which is really difficult to break into uh real estate independently, especially in luxury.
- 2:37SPEAKER_00: So it's a no-brainer, you really don't go into luxury right away.
- 2:41SPEAKER_00: So I worked my boot off for that.
- 2:43SPEAKER_00: And another thing is the archulettas are five generations reno.
- 2:47SPEAKER_00: If you're from here, you know an archaletta because I get that all the time.
- 2:50SPEAKER_00: Oh my gosh, are you related to?
- 2:52SPEAKER_00: Are you related to?
- 2:53SPEAKER_00: And then, yep, that's an uncle.
- 2:55SPEAKER_00: Oh, that's a father, oh, that's this.
- 2:56SPEAKER_00: Oh, and I love, love connections.
- 2:59SPEAKER_00: A huge premise of my business is being able to connect my clients, obviously, to real estate, but also the community.
- 3:09SPEAKER_00: So driving that community feel when you're coming into the area as a newbie is super important.
- 3:14SPEAKER_00: And I value that very much about this profession.
- 3:17SPEAKER_01: That's connections and networking is so important, and you exude that so much.
- 3:23SPEAKER_01: What is what was a defining moment for you in your journey about leadership and your leadership philosophy?
- 3:35SPEAKER_00: Oh, wow.
- 3:36SPEAKER_00: I was born military into a military, my dad's military, I should say.
- 3:41SPEAKER_00: And boy, that work ethic is a strong one.
- 3:43SPEAKER_00: And there's no give.
- 3:44SPEAKER_00: There was never a moment where dad just said, Oh, you know what, live your best life and don't worry about the rules.
- 3:49SPEAKER_00: I was consistently held accountable from a very young age, age five.
- 3:53SPEAKER_00: He came into my life, so does my stepdad, but lo and behold, it's my dad.
- 3:57SPEAKER_00: And by age eight, I was flipping houses with him.
- 3:59SPEAKER_00: And I'll tell you what, at age eight, I was digging trenches, I would put in sprinkler systems, I was planting trees, I was building fences, I was ripping out carpet.
- 4:08SPEAKER_00: Because I was a girl and because I was eight years old, there were no boundaries.
- 4:11SPEAKER_00: So that taught me really what I was capable of doing in all aspects.
- 4:17SPEAKER_00: Going into real estate was a no-brainer because we bought a new flip property every year to two years, and we actually lived in these things.
- 4:24SPEAKER_00: Seriously, sometimes it was like, wow, okay, we're gonna live here for a year, two years until we flip it.
- 4:29SPEAKER_00: I know the ins and outs of the real estate.
- 4:31SPEAKER_00: My dad kept me involved in everything.
- 4:33SPEAKER_00: And then the leadership part of it was watching how my dad ran our family businesses, he owned furniture businesses, moving businesses, delivery things.
- 4:45SPEAKER_00: And so we were always a part of that.
- 4:48SPEAKER_00: We were never allowed to just stay home on a Saturday and relax.
- 4:52SPEAKER_00: So leadership for me comes naturally.
- 4:54SPEAKER_00: I prefer to be in a leadership role because I've worked for other people and made them a ton of money.
- 5:00SPEAKER_00: And the gratitude is really not appreciated.
- 5:04SPEAKER_00: So when I step into a leadership role, I believe that energy starts from the top.
- 5:09SPEAKER_00: So if I'm leading, I'm also giving, I'm also mentoring, and I'm finding the strengths and weaknesses of each team member because everybody has something to offer.
- 5:19SPEAKER_00: But I was also taught the philosophy slow to hire, quick to fire.
- 5:23SPEAKER_00: So everybody, we go through several interviews to figure it out, and building my team has been a lot slower than I thought because my work ethic will only allow me to bring on similar-minded individuals.
- 5:35SPEAKER_00: And that's hard.
- 5:37SPEAKER_00: I'm going really slow.
- 5:38SPEAKER_00: So I just brought on someone new and she's killing it already.
- 5:42SPEAKER_00: Decided to go into the leadership role with a team because not only my daughters I mentioned before, my assistant that's been with me for seven years, also took got her real estate license off ice, and now she's by my side, and you know, we're we're doing this together.
- 5:57SPEAKER_00: And it's just such an awesome feeling to be able to mentor her and see a different side of her than just doing my transactions or flyers or anything like that.
- 6:06SPEAKER_00: She did from behind the desk.
- 6:08SPEAKER_00: So it's a natural, it's a natural aspiring role for me, I feel.
- 6:12SPEAKER_01: So you said a bunch of things that I just think are absolutely phenomenal.
- 6:15SPEAKER_01: A couple of things, and I just want to, for those listening, I really want you to understand a couple of things.
- 6:20SPEAKER_01: Strengths and weaknesses, it's really important to find, and you can find out what is best for each and every one of the people that work with you.
- 6:27SPEAKER_01: And that's really key in terms of leadership.
- 6:29SPEAKER_01: I feel like I talk about that all the time, about finding people's strengths and weaknesses in the right place for people too, because sometimes they don't know what they don't know or where they best soar.
- 6:41SPEAKER_01: And being able to find that in people is really amazing.
- 6:44SPEAKER_01: So that's really I just that's a great skill and a gift that you can give to the people that are on your team.
- 6:50SPEAKER_01: But you also you also mentioned something that uh about gratitude.
- 6:55SPEAKER_01: And I kind of want to stay here for a second on the gratitude part because I I I have worked with a lot of different people and some of my own clients when they've come to me about new leadership roles or finding the right next thing and helping them level up, one of the biggest things has always been a lack of gratitude.
- 7:20SPEAKER_01: So on that front, you said that was something obviously that's really important to you, and you've seen that.
- 7:26SPEAKER_01: And I'm curious, when you were at the other real estate establishments that you've been at, how did you feel that gratitude played a role or didn't?
- 7:38SPEAKER_00: I can feel gratitude, and you almost want to be an inspiration to others as much as you want people to inspire you.
- 7:46SPEAKER_00: It's always a learning process.
- 7:47SPEAKER_00: And when I'm not growing because there's not enough gratitude surrounding me from other people, I know that I'm just not amongst the people that settle me soulfully and professionally.
- 8:01SPEAKER_00: So I'm not the kind of person that's afraid of change and I'm out.
- 8:07SPEAKER_00: I don't need anybody to clap their hands for me.
- 8:09SPEAKER_00: I don't need a party, but recognition of hard work and accountability should be greatly appreciated.
- 8:16SPEAKER_00: And I make sure that everyone in my life feels that when they're around me.
- 8:21SPEAKER_00: And that's just how I want to lead and have people feel when they're basically looking to me for direction.
- 8:30SPEAKER_01: And it's I think accountability that accountability, the recognition, it's so important.
- 8:39SPEAKER_01: And I think it's something that's so often missed.
- 8:43SPEAKER_01: Right?
- 8:44SPEAKER_01: It's so often missed.
- 8:46SPEAKER_01: So thinking back then also to the strengths and weaknesses, what things do you do that help you or that, or tips that if there's a leader that's listening to this and they're building a team, like what are some of the things that you do to help find and define your team members' strengths and weaknesses?
- 9:06SPEAKER_00: Oh gosh, I think it's a natural exposure to people's strengths and weaknesses.
- 9:10SPEAKER_00: And sometimes you can look at somebody on your team and think you can change that.
- 9:15SPEAKER_00: Right now, maybe they're a little shy.
- 9:16SPEAKER_00: It's it's a little difficult to make a lead call, something that comes naturally to you and I knowing you, you and I could jump into anything and we're we're part of it like we've been part of it since the beginning.
- 9:26SPEAKER_00: It's just a natural thing that you and I really have.
- 9:29SPEAKER_00: And some people just are a little more insecure about that.
- 9:33SPEAKER_00: And you can see somebody if they're teachable or not.
- 9:36SPEAKER_00: And those are the people that I want surrounding me because they're coming to me and trusting me as their team lead to guide them, mentor them, and shape them into the type of agent that they look up to me as being.
- 9:50SPEAKER_00: You have to have that teachable personality, you have to have somebody that's willing to be a little bit uncomfortable in order to gain strength, because that's where strength comes from is discomfort.
- 10:02SPEAKER_00: Yep.
- 10:02SPEAKER_00: People always say you stay in your comfort level.
- 10:04SPEAKER_00: No, you stay in your discomfort level because you're happier being uncomfortable than trying to move up while you're uncomfortable.
- 10:16SPEAKER_00: I don't have a comfort level.
- 10:18SPEAKER_00: I don't know what stop means.
- 10:20SPEAKER_00: I don't know what let's do that tomorrow means.
- 10:23SPEAKER_00: I don't know that I'll call that client later means because my job is to do all of those things, and those are what are the greatest expectations of my clients, period.
- 10:38SPEAKER_01: So when you're finding those traits, I think that is so true.
- 10:41SPEAKER_01: Like we don't obviously you and I are so we're wired very soon.
- 10:46SPEAKER_01: We are wired right, and so yeah, that stop thing, and sometimes it's hard, right?
- 10:50SPEAKER_01: Because we don't have that necessarily, ooh, I want to stop.
- 10:53SPEAKER_01: Like last night I I met some people and I was sending out emails at nine o'clock at night because I'd hold up at five.
- 11:02SPEAKER_01: I get it.
- 11:02SPEAKER_01: Yes, yeah.
- 11:03SPEAKER_01: But but here's a here's the question I want to ask what questions do you ask your people to see if they're teachable?
- 11:13SPEAKER_00: I'm such an energy person.
- 11:16SPEAKER_00: I believe that people will tell you what you want to hear when they want to be placed in a particular situation.
- 11:23SPEAKER_00: People are the best interpretation of themselves initially.
- 11:27SPEAKER_00: And as you grow and you expect their growth to follow yours and they become a different person, that's actually who they were to begin with.
- 11:38SPEAKER_00: So I don't necessarily want to hear what you're capable of.
- 11:42SPEAKER_00: I'll give you every opportunity to show whether you're shaking in your boots or not, if you are the right person for the job.
- 11:52SPEAKER_00: Like I said, slow to hire.
- 11:54SPEAKER_00: My assistant, she does really well behind the desk.
- 11:57SPEAKER_00: She does great with my transactions.
- 11:59SPEAKER_00: She does great with getting my listing set up and working with getting the inspection set up and all the things that, oh my gosh, my absolute my personality type, just sitting here right now having this conversation with you.
- 12:08SPEAKER_00: I just want to walk around the room.
- 12:10SPEAKER_00: I just I don't do well in a lockdown.
- 12:12SPEAKER_00: I'm not a lockdown personality.
- 12:14SPEAKER_00: That's why my success is what it is, is because I put myself out there and people want to know who is this real estate agent?
- 12:24SPEAKER_00: I see her, I hear her, but I don't know her.
- 12:27SPEAKER_00: And so by being legitimately yourself and that is your strength, then people feel that.
- 12:35SPEAKER_00: I can tell you anything you want to hear, Jaclyn, but am I gonna deliver?
- 12:40SPEAKER_00: I am, but I I give everybody the same opportunity.
- 12:44unknown: Right.
- 12:45SPEAKER_01: Actions really do actions really speak loud and they and giving people the opportunity to either step up and then have those conversations with them to say, Yeah, and I think one of the biggest things about leadership, and this is something that I think that you've done very well, is to have those hard conversations to say to somebody, you know, Susie, Billy, whomever, whatever, it seems like, you know, what's happening here to ask the question, what stopped you from doing X, Y, or Z?
- 13:15SPEAKER_01: And then really helping to bring out where they are meant to be by having those hard conversations.
- 13:22SPEAKER_00: Yes.
- 13:23SPEAKER_00: So you're not you're when I have those conversations with people, my team members, I don't, I never come from a hard place.
- 13:31SPEAKER_00: Like, wow, you you are like, what is wrong with you?
- 13:34SPEAKER_00: You're terrible with those leads.
- 13:35SPEAKER_00: We worked on this.
- 13:36SPEAKER_00: Why are you why are you why do you still sound like that?
- 13:38SPEAKER_00: Oh my gosh, just those words coming out of my mouth.
- 13:40SPEAKER_00: That's not me.
- 13:40SPEAKER_00: That's not how I would say that.
- 13:42SPEAKER_00: I would say, let's just talk about the leads.
- 13:44SPEAKER_00: I see that you said Sunday you're gonna make phone calls, and I'm seeing that you didn't make any phone calls on your leads.
- 13:50SPEAKER_00: We need to go over that again.
- 13:51SPEAKER_00: I want to make sure you're comfortable.
- 13:53SPEAKER_00: Is this something you really want to keep doing?
- 13:55SPEAKER_00: Because I pay for the leads.
- 13:57SPEAKER_00: And let me let's get it straight.
- 13:59SPEAKER_00: Sometimes they're not easy to convert.
- 14:01SPEAKER_00: And what that means is you just have to keep working them and working them and working them.
- 14:05SPEAKER_00: And this is your success here.
- 14:08SPEAKER_00: This is the check that sits on the desk that has your name on it.
- 14:11SPEAKER_00: The difference between you making a call and not.
- 14:13SPEAKER_00: So if you're not comfortable to make that call, I am so I'll do it, and then I'll get paid for it.
- 14:22SPEAKER_00: One of those scenarios I know a lot of people are afraid of rejection.
- 14:26unknown: Right.
- 14:27SPEAKER_00: But just expect a no, just expect a no.
- 14:31SPEAKER_00: And then that way when the yes comes, you can fly right into your feeling like you're accepted again.
- 14:38SPEAKER_00: There's no reason to think that every single person wants to work with you as a real estate agent.
- 14:43SPEAKER_00: If only I I had that conversation with one of the girls on my team.
- 14:49SPEAKER_00: She was really uncomfortable with phone calls.
- 14:51SPEAKER_00: So she decided that she didn't want to do leads anymore because of that premise.
- 14:55SPEAKER_00: Okay.
- 14:56SPEAKER_00: So I gave them all to the other girl who's very close, like how I work.
- 15:02SPEAKER_00: Boom, boom, we do it.
- 15:03SPEAKER_00: And then the the one says, Well, yeah, I think I'm ready for leads.
- 15:06SPEAKER_00: And I'm like, I already gave them to so and so as they come in, I'll give you a few more.
- 15:11SPEAKER_00: So let me just back up a second.
- 15:13SPEAKER_00: I'm a luxury agent, I don't do leads other than 500 and above.
- 15:18SPEAKER_00: Those leads go to my team.
- 15:20SPEAKER_00: I do a million plus.
- 15:22SPEAKER_00: Those leads go to me.
- 15:24SPEAKER_00: And so I'm really not asking a whole lot from you to work$500,000 to$999,000 leads.
- 15:38SPEAKER_00: It's they're all the same people, or they just have a little bit more money or a little bit more discretionary income to move up or whatever they're doing.
- 15:45SPEAKER_00: So I'm are they teachable?
- 15:47SPEAKER_00: Are they learning as we're having these conversations, or are these conversations repeated?
- 15:51SPEAKER_00: Because if they are repeated, then you will just be my assistant, you will just be my transaction coordinator, and you will just schedule my inspections because that's what you're good at, and that's where your comfort falls, and that's where your paycheck stops and starts.
- 16:06SPEAKER_01: And that's but that's really truly finding out what somebody's strengths and weaknesses are and helping them define that and seeing where they want to go.
- 16:15SPEAKER_01: And that's a gift of a really good leader.
- 16:17SPEAKER_01: I think about a lot of times we people get into a role and they think that they want to do X, Y, or Z, and they're afraid to say no.
- 16:27SPEAKER_01: They're afraid, but you, as that great leader, are able to help people say, you know what, that isn't where I want to be, or I'm not ready for it yet.
- 16:37SPEAKER_01: Or I so that's just really quite amazing to be able to have.
- 16:41SPEAKER_01: I so thinking about growing other leaders, how much do you think and what role does emotional intelligence?
- 16:53SPEAKER_01: A little bit about what we're talking about, a little bit about play in the leadership.
- 16:57SPEAKER_01: And how does how do you think it influences your teams?
- 16:59SPEAKER_00: And I was taught that your emotion side stays at home when you go to work.
- 17:04SPEAKER_00: So your boyfriend broke up with you.
- 17:07SPEAKER_00: I can't come in today.
- 17:08SPEAKER_00: I'm so sad.
- 17:10SPEAKER_00: That doesn't work.
- 17:11SPEAKER_00: Show up and glow up, period.
- 17:13SPEAKER_00: That's what I always tell my team.
- 17:14SPEAKER_00: I don't need to know about your boyfriend breaking up with you.
- 17:16SPEAKER_00: I don't need to know that you got in a fight with your best friends.
- 17:19SPEAKER_00: I don't care if you drank too much last night.
- 17:22SPEAKER_00: This is this is a job that we're all fortunate to be successful in real estate.
- 17:28SPEAKER_00: It's a very competitive position anyway.
- 17:32SPEAKER_00: And I don't need to be babysitting on top of mentoring, on top of being successful, on top of fighting to get out there when I'm exhausted from working seven days a week.
- 17:43SPEAKER_00: I don't need to babysit you too.
- 17:45SPEAKER_00: So emotional intelligence and the level in which people sacrifice their own soul, because that's it's that's true.
- 17:52SPEAKER_00: You are an absolute control of what you allow in your life.
- 17:54SPEAKER_00: If you've taught someone how to treat you and treat you like a doormat, then that's the energy that you are expecting to get.
- 18:03SPEAKER_00: I don't allow that energy.
- 18:05SPEAKER_00: My work is first.
- 18:06SPEAKER_00: Obviously, my family is way above that, but then it's my work because that's how I take care of my kids, and even though they're grown, but we all never stop.
- 18:15SPEAKER_00: And that's how I take care of my dogs, and that's how I travel, and that's how I have more money for marketing and things like that.
- 18:20SPEAKER_00: Emotional intelligence is a huge part of being a professional.
- 18:27SPEAKER_01: Yeah, you know, it's it, and I the way you just said that is it's beautiful because it's really true.
- 18:33SPEAKER_01: I've said to people, leave your baggage when you're networking, wherever you're going, leave your baggage at the door.
- 18:40SPEAKER_01: Don't bring in with you.
- 18:41SPEAKER_01: And there is no place for that in the workplace.
- 18:46SPEAKER_01: It's and I would I always love to say, remember that what you bring in is also going to have a reflection on how well you rise up.
- 18:57SPEAKER_01: If you are always talking about the whatever came from home, drama, right?
- 19:06SPEAKER_01: What are you gonna get known as in the workplace?
- 19:08SPEAKER_00: And how do you well, no one's gonna want to be around you because I provide a very um upbeat positive approach.
- 19:16SPEAKER_00: And don't get me wrong, I have bad days, but I still walk in and it starts with my front desk.
- 19:21SPEAKER_00: Hey girls, happy Monday.
- 19:22SPEAKER_00: They don't know what I went through, and I'm not gonna go up there and tell them and have a poor me moment because, in the grand scheme of things, they're not there to listen to me and I'm not here to tell them my life.
- 19:31SPEAKER_00: That's what our friends are for.
- 19:33SPEAKER_00: Exactly.
- 19:33SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 19:34SPEAKER_01: When you think about, so this may be a little bit more philosophical question, but when you think about the legacy you want to leave as a leader, how do you ensure that you're creating that legacy on a daily basis?
- 19:47SPEAKER_01: And what is that legacy that you want to leave?
- 19:49SPEAKER_00: Besides real estate, I'm a writer.
- 19:51SPEAKER_00: So I do write about the journeys that we take in this life and how each and every step that we take is a lesson.
- 19:57SPEAKER_00: If you are not incorporating every single step as a lesson, then you will repeat those steps over and over and over.
- 20:05SPEAKER_00: So I always have, I always explain this to have a visual.
- 20:09SPEAKER_00: We go through that first dark tunnel and there's no light.
- 20:14SPEAKER_00: And we're thinking, oh my God, I'm gonna die.
- 20:16SPEAKER_00: This probably starts around middle school, I'm thinking.
- 20:18SPEAKER_00: Like you go far, you go that far back and you crawl, and you can hear your mom and dad, come on, you can do it, or whatever the situation may be, or just the opposite, beating you down.
- 20:28SPEAKER_00: So you stay in the tunnel longer.
- 20:29SPEAKER_00: But by the time you get to the end of that tunnel with wobbly legs or bloody knees or skinned up face from falling so many times, you remember how you got to the end of the tunnel.
- 20:47SPEAKER_00: So the next time that dark tunnel pops up, you're like, okay, this is familiar.
- 20:52SPEAKER_00: And it was awful.
- 20:53SPEAKER_00: Oh my God, I don't want to go through this again.
- 20:55SPEAKER_00: So hopefully your brain is going back and you're reliving that journey in your first dark tunnel.
- 21:03SPEAKER_00: Repeat.
- 21:04SPEAKER_00: So a dark tunnel comes, I'm 53.
- 21:07SPEAKER_00: I look at the dark tunnel deep in the eyes, and I'm going in and I don't have a choice.
- 21:13SPEAKER_00: But this time I know there's light at the end, I know there's warmth at the end, and I get there faster and stronger because I believe in my lessons, I believe in my work, and I believe that I've been present in my life to get me to that light quicker.
- 21:29SPEAKER_00: And I talk to my team about that, I talk to my readers about that.
- 21:34SPEAKER_00: The things that happen to you, you allow.
- 21:40SPEAKER_00: 100% you allow.
- 21:42SPEAKER_00: And stuff can go wrong.
- 21:46SPEAKER_00: And you can think, I didn't see that coming.
- 21:48SPEAKER_00: Okay, yeah, we got blindsided, but what did this person look like before this actually happened to you?
- 21:52SPEAKER_00: Were the red flags slapping you upside the head and you still tend tended to ignore them because they were cool or popular or whatever your thought process.
- 22:00SPEAKER_00: Was on that point, but you got to get to the point where you're the coolest person, you're the most popular person, and you don't need to be connected with anybody because you're fine and you're savage all by yourself.
- 22:09SPEAKER_00: You have to influence yourself of your own personal thoughts.
- 22:14SPEAKER_00: No one else can do that for you.
- 22:15SPEAKER_00: So I have that those tools that I help mentor my team with.
- 22:22SPEAKER_00: It's personal growth and it's professional growth.
- 22:24SPEAKER_00: And they come hand in hand.
- 22:26SPEAKER_00: Because, like I said, the energy comes from the top.
- 22:28SPEAKER_00: So it's the way I look at it.
- 22:31SPEAKER_01: It's great.
- 22:31SPEAKER_01: And I think I always say this a thousand and one times: your vibe attracts your tribe.
- 22:37SPEAKER_01: And it is so important.
- 22:38SPEAKER_01: It's all around.
- 22:39SPEAKER_01: Like you could be like the smile that you put on, the energy that you're putting out, and it really does.
- 22:44SPEAKER_01: It not only does it attract the people that you work with, it attracts your clients, it attracts the right people.
- 22:49SPEAKER_01: And I think it's I think that is something that I think is very important as a leader to know that your vibe attracts your tribe.
- 22:55SPEAKER_01: And it's okay to have somebody that comes into your life that you realize they're not meant to be your customer, your client, your employee.
- 23:05SPEAKER_01: And if we can also be thinking from the standpoint of abundance, it's okay to say, hey, you know what?
- 23:11SPEAKER_01: I think that person is not right for our team, but you'd be better on team why.
- 23:17SPEAKER_00: Absolutely.
- 23:18SPEAKER_00: It's never a no, it's just always like a you just have to move things around a little bit.
- 23:22SPEAKER_00: I feel like I'm in a good place with my team.
- 23:24SPEAKER_00: There's been a little bit of struggle initially, just getting people to be in a role that they're uncomfortable being in.
- 23:31SPEAKER_00: But I'm here to mentor.
- 23:32SPEAKER_00: I'm not gonna leave you.
- 23:33SPEAKER_00: I'm not gonna be like, yeah, go show a three million dollar house, and they have no idea.
- 23:37SPEAKER_00: Like I that's also a reflection of my name's on the door.
- 23:42SPEAKER_00: So when I show up and I'm ready to rock, then that shows that my team behind me is a trusted advocate of the Archaletta group.
- 23:52SPEAKER_00: So I want to mentor that as much as I can, that we're all in this together.
- 23:59SPEAKER_00: So I had I want to tell a story really quick.
- 24:01SPEAKER_00: I I was in a past brokerage, and the broker and I just killed it in the luxury market.
- 24:07SPEAKER_00: So we came out with our awards, he got the uh diamond, I got the platinum.
- 24:12SPEAKER_00: I was like 10,000 under him that year, believe it or not, it was crazy.
- 24:17SPEAKER_00: And then nobody else got gold, and everybody else in the brokerage was silver.
- 24:22SPEAKER_00: And so they're like, Wendy, we want you to do a talk to next time we have a meeting of like how to be a luxury agent.
- 24:29SPEAKER_00: And I said, Absolutely not.
- 24:30SPEAKER_00: Like, why not?
- 24:31SPEAKER_00: I said, Because this isn't my team, I'm not the broker, I'm an independent agent, and why am I gonna give you my secrets?
- 24:37SPEAKER_00: So we had our next meeting, and uh the my broker's assistant called me.
- 24:41SPEAKER_00: I said, Wendy, will you please just give us three points on how to be a luxury agent?
- 24:45SPEAKER_00: We all want to know, and just give us five minutes and three points.
- 24:47SPEAKER_00: And I said, Well, I'll give you one point.
- 24:50SPEAKER_00: And they're like, Okay, meet us in the middle at two.
- 24:52SPEAKER_00: I said, Okay, two everybody pick up your phone.
- 24:58SPEAKER_00: Yep.
- 24:58SPEAKER_00: Okay, answer your phone.
- 25:04SPEAKER_00: Answer your phone.
- 25:06SPEAKER_00: I don't go to the bathroom without my phone, Jacqueline.
- 25:08SPEAKER_00: I'm gonna tell you right now I don't.
- 25:09SPEAKER_00: If you call me, you won't know.
- 25:13SPEAKER_00: But I may be doing other things.
- 25:17SPEAKER_00: Number two.
- 25:19SPEAKER_00: You come to the meeting.
- 25:21SPEAKER_00: All right?
- 25:22SPEAKER_00: I said, everybody stand up.
- 25:24SPEAKER_00: Everybody stands up.
- 25:25SPEAKER_00: Uh-huh, they're all having fun.
- 25:26SPEAKER_00: And I said, What are you wearing?
- 25:30SPEAKER_00: Oh, you've got your workout gear on.
- 25:31SPEAKER_00: Your hair's still wet from this morning, you haven't put your makeup on because you had to make it on time to a 10 o'clock meeting.
- 25:38SPEAKER_00: If 10 o'clock is the beginning of your day, you need to re- re-establish your boundaries here of what you want out of your real estate career.
- 25:47SPEAKER_00: I said, if that phone rang and somebody wanted to see a$3 million house, who in this room could go show it?
- 25:55SPEAKER_00: Me.
- 25:57SPEAKER_00: Me.
- 25:58SPEAKER_00: My hair's done, my makeup's done, I'm dressed to impress, and I'm ready to rock.
- 26:04SPEAKER_00: The rest of you are gonna have to run home.
- 26:06SPEAKER_00: So what does that do?
- 26:07SPEAKER_00: You've got a client outside of a luxury listing staring at a sign with your number on it, and I'm gonna go show it.
- 26:16SPEAKER_00: Who wins?
- 26:17SPEAKER_00: I do.
- 26:19SPEAKER_00: I win.
- 26:20SPEAKER_00: It's that simple.
- 26:22SPEAKER_00: What do you want?
- 26:24SPEAKER_00: Then put yourself in a situation to not only honor yourself, but the profession in which you're invested in.
- 26:31SPEAKER_00: It's simply that simple.
- 26:34SPEAKER_01: It's it is so important, and I you know this is why you and I get along so well, because I think I have probably said a thousand and one times, like you've got 15 seconds to make a first impression.
- 26:49SPEAKER_01: And I hate to say that, but you really do, and not that you do not we can go into the whole judgment and blah, all that stuff, but in actuality, you've got 15 seconds to make that first impression.
- 27:02SPEAKER_01: And do you show up as the person that you are at the moment or the person that you want to be or the level you want to be?
- 27:10SPEAKER_01: And the answer is you show up to the level where you want to be.
- 27:13SPEAKER_01: Yes, and you always dress up, you're always, and I hate to say that, you are never going to find the CEO of a major company walking in on stage wearing her active wear.
- 27:29SPEAKER_01: I'm sorry, you are just not going to.
- 27:31SPEAKER_00: Or no, and her hair is not wet and her makeup's on.
- 27:34SPEAKER_00: Yes, ma'am.
- 27:35SPEAKER_00: It's it is that simple.
- 27:37SPEAKER_00: And let's just rethink this.
- 27:39SPEAKER_00: You don't have to be in Gucci and believe it on.
- 27:42SPEAKER_00: Okay.
- 27:42SPEAKER_00: I just happen to wear this shirt today.
- 27:44SPEAKER_00: Let's just be honest.
- 27:46SPEAKER_00: Just are there holes in your jeans?
- 27:48SPEAKER_00: No, those are a no.
- 27:49SPEAKER_00: No, those are a no.
- 27:51SPEAKER_00: Are you in a sweatshirt?
- 27:52SPEAKER_00: Are your nails clean?
- 27:54SPEAKER_00: Simplicity.
- 27:56SPEAKER_00: You can shop at Walmart.
- 27:59SPEAKER_00: I don't care.
- 28:00SPEAKER_00: Be clean and be business dressed.
- 28:02SPEAKER_00: Just because you shop at Walmart doesn't mean you're gonna look like you shop at Walmart.
- 28:06SPEAKER_00: So there's all kinds of things that are in there.
- 28:08SPEAKER_00: It doesn't matter.
- 28:09SPEAKER_00: Just present yourself, right?
- 28:12SPEAKER_01: Be that person.
- 28:13SPEAKER_01: So we've talked a lot about things.
- 28:15SPEAKER_01: What aspects of leadership are you working on right now?
- 28:20SPEAKER_01: And what are you challenging yourself with or on?
- 28:24SPEAKER_00: Oh I just started this amazing group with my mentor.
- 28:29SPEAKER_00: It's called the Missing Link.
- 28:32SPEAKER_00: And my friend brought it to me.
- 28:34SPEAKER_00: My friend that I haven't known for very long, but she's one of my favorite people on this planet.
- 28:38SPEAKER_00: So thank you, Jacqueline.
- 28:39SPEAKER_01: You're welcome.
- 28:40SPEAKER_01: And part of the Missing Link Network.
- 28:42SPEAKER_00: Yes.
- 28:42SPEAKER_00: And I went to my first meeting with other people, and I really loved the premise of the meeting.
- 28:49SPEAKER_00: And so after it was over, you and I went aside and I said, I like this, but I know that my people would represent exactly what my vision is for what I want to surround myself with.
- 29:02SPEAKER_00: And you said, Great, let's talk about it.
- 29:04SPEAKER_00: So we put our visions together.
- 29:06SPEAKER_00: I put my feelers out to my friends.
- 29:09SPEAKER_00: Within three weeks, I had 11 new members.
- 29:12SPEAKER_00: I've got another 10 or 11 coming in.
- 29:15SPEAKER_00: And these women are successful already.
- 29:21SPEAKER_00: And we all have our own independent professions.
- 29:24SPEAKER_00: So there's not another real estate agent in there.
- 29:26SPEAKER_00: We're not there to make friends and hey, I'll see you on the field.
- 29:28SPEAKER_00: We're not doing that.
- 29:30SPEAKER_00: Although we are we all of our same mindset and personality.
- 29:34SPEAKER_00: So it's a natural formation of cool people to hang out with and and and get.
- 29:39SPEAKER_00: And and then, but we're all super connected in the community.
- 29:42SPEAKER_00: Five generations of being here.
- 29:44SPEAKER_00: Obviously, I've been alive that long, no matter what, you're in the picture.
- 29:47SPEAKER_00: I'm just kidding.
- 29:48SPEAKER_00: Um I know a lot of people.
- 29:51SPEAKER_00: And if I don't know the connection that you need, I know somebody that can help me connect you.
- 29:57SPEAKER_00: And it's not like it's a tit for tat.
- 29:59SPEAKER_00: I'm like, you know what?
- 29:59SPEAKER_00: Oh my God, I keep hooking up so and like when I need something, she's not there because she's not you.
- 30:05SPEAKER_00: So I I don't take inventory.
- 30:10SPEAKER_00: I'm happy to disclose and help and put people out there for each other to meet and greet.
- 30:17SPEAKER_00: Because I say the horse is at the trough.
- 30:19SPEAKER_00: If it drinks, great.
- 30:21SPEAKER_00: If it dies of dehydration, it was that that it was that horse is a choice.
- 30:26SPEAKER_00: Here you go.
- 30:27SPEAKER_00: Here's your water.
- 30:28SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 30:30SPEAKER_01: Did I answer the question?
- 30:31SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 30:32SPEAKER_01: It's leading people and helping people and being able to connect and helping grow other people, which is a key, seems to be a really great part of your leadership and leadership style.
- 30:45SPEAKER_01: And it's important, not just in your business, but how you lead your life and you lead the people around you and what your vision is, and sharing that vision with other people as well.
- 30:59SPEAKER_01: So that is it's great to see the growth.
- 31:03SPEAKER_00: Yes.
- 31:04SPEAKER_00: The potential of growth is always appreciated because when something happens and you're like, oh my gosh, that just happened.
- 31:11SPEAKER_00: Like this last week has been crazy.
- 31:13SPEAKER_00: The homes that I've sold a home in was on the market for five and a half months with another agent, and I took it over and I sold it in seven days.
- 31:19SPEAKER_00: And it's my clients, I never even got an offer before.
- 31:22SPEAKER_00: And it's there's a lot to listing a home.
- 31:23SPEAKER_00: You don't put a sign in the yard and put it on the MLS, and then boom, the house sells.
- 31:27SPEAKER_00: There's uh, I'm gonna be honest.
- 31:28SPEAKER_00: I spent 14 and a half hours cutting branches, weeding this property, having the pool guys over there to take care of the pool.
- 31:35SPEAKER_00: I semi-staged it with things from my own home.
- 31:37SPEAKER_00: I brought in my own patio furniture.
- 31:40SPEAKER_00: Why didn't it why did it sell in seven days?
- 31:42SPEAKER_00: Because I loved it.
- 31:44SPEAKER_00: I showed love and I showed gratitude to my client.
- 31:47SPEAKER_00: By the way, it lives on the other side of the United States.
- 31:50SPEAKER_00: So we've never even met in person.
- 31:53SPEAKER_01: But it also goes to the initial thing that we were talking about, what you said about the meeting that you had when you walked into the room.
- 31:58SPEAKER_01: You've got 15 seconds to make a first impression.
- 32:01SPEAKER_01: And yeah, same thing with the house.
- 32:02SPEAKER_01: You have to make that first impression.
- 32:05SPEAKER_01: What are you going to do to make somebody walk in and be like and see the potential?
- 32:10SPEAKER_01: That does say, Oh my God.
- 32:12SPEAKER_01: So you've got that 15 seconds to walk in.
- 32:15SPEAKER_01: And it starts when you walk up to the front of the house.
- 32:18SPEAKER_00: It does, right?
- 32:19SPEAKER_00: If there's weeds everywhere and the trees growing over the path, then you have to scrunch down to try to get to the front door.
- 32:24SPEAKER_00: Is that a good time?
- 32:26SPEAKER_00: Because it's not for me.
- 32:27SPEAKER_00: Have you seen this hair?
- 32:28SPEAKER_00: I'm gonna walk out with leaves and branches, not even know it.
- 32:31SPEAKER_00: It's gonna be something, something out of a movie.
- 32:34SPEAKER_00: What's in your hair?
- 32:35SPEAKER_00: Okay, something about Mary going on over here.
- 32:37SPEAKER_00: I can't do that to anyone else.
- 32:38SPEAKER_00: I have to make sure that you can walk up to the front door.
- 32:41SPEAKER_00: Because, like you said, pulled into the driveway.
- 32:43SPEAKER_00: And oh my gosh, how cute! I love how the tree curves around the entryway.
- 32:46SPEAKER_00: You're welcome because it didn't look like that two days ago.
- 32:50SPEAKER_00: All pride aside, I did it myself.
- 32:52SPEAKER_01: Right.
- 32:53SPEAKER_01: Yeah, which is putting in the putting in that little bit of extra effort to make something sing, not just with your customers, but with your team.
- 33:04SPEAKER_01: Yes.
- 33:05SPEAKER_01: Yes.
- 33:06SPEAKER_01: Um so Wendy, you are just you are such a light and such a great leader.
- 33:13SPEAKER_01: How can people find you?
- 33:14SPEAKER_01: How can people connect with you?
- 33:16SPEAKER_01: Where should they go?
- 33:18SPEAKER_00: Oh my gosh.
- 33:19SPEAKER_00: So I'm a social media.
- 33:21SPEAKER_00: I can't say the word I want to say because you don't have a three-second delay.
- 33:24SPEAKER_00: But anyway, we talked about that before, just so you guys know.
- 33:26SPEAKER_00: I'm a very candid, open, verbally honest person.
- 33:31SPEAKER_00: So I'm on Facebook, Wendy Archuletta, um, Wendy with an I at the end.
- 33:35SPEAKER_00: Um, I do blog um several times a week.
- 33:38SPEAKER_00: I used to blog daily, but uh honestly, my first book is on my editor's desk.
- 33:42SPEAKER_00: And I had to tone it down a little bit from writing that book and starting two others.
- 33:47SPEAKER_00: And I'm also on Instagram, same name, Wendy Archuletta, and I'm on LinkedIn, Wendy Archuletta.
- 33:53SPEAKER_00: I run the Wendy Archiletta group for my real estate and then Wendy Archuletta Connection Group for my connection group as Jacqueline's my mentor there.
- 34:02SPEAKER_00: And I like to keep everything under one title.
- 34:05SPEAKER_00: So when you're looking for me, it's just boom, when you Google Wendy Archuletta, you're gonna get all the things.
- 34:10SPEAKER_00: And one thing about social media that I've learned, I see people that have a business page and I see people that have a personal page.
- 34:19SPEAKER_00: And you know, a business page, not so much fun with houses, but don't you really want to know what your real estate agents are made of?
- 34:27SPEAKER_00: You know, you go on their personal page and it's uh Vegas style.
- 34:35SPEAKER_00: Do I can I say that?
- 34:36SPEAKER_00: Because that's not me, you guys.
- 34:37SPEAKER_00: Well, I want you to know.
- 34:38SPEAKER_00: So the only thing you're gonna find on my page is inspirational things, my blogs, yeah, my English mastiffs, which are the loves of my life, my kids, my friends, and a hundred percent my business.
- 34:50SPEAKER_00: I call it real estate, dogs, and blogs.
- 34:52SPEAKER_00: That's what I live for, that's who I am, and that's how I communicate.
- 34:58SPEAKER_00: And I feel that let people see how you shine from the inside out.
- 35:03SPEAKER_00: Don't paint a picture of yourself as a professional and only a professional, because there's no way on this earth that's all you do.
- 35:10SPEAKER_00: You have a person inside of you that lives a life, and people want to see that, they want to connect with you.
- 35:16SPEAKER_00: That's what social media is.
- 35:18SPEAKER_00: So entertain it.
- 35:19SPEAKER_00: Right.
- 35:20unknown: Right.
- 35:20SPEAKER_00: That's how my success started growing, literally, when I combine the two.
- 35:24SPEAKER_00: That's fantastic.
- 35:25SPEAKER_01: I love that.
- 35:26SPEAKER_01: No, and I love that tip.
- 35:27SPEAKER_01: I I think I would say it is probably one of the best things when you actually use your actual personal page as your always say it's the window into your business, right?
- 35:36SPEAKER_01: If you're walking down Fifth Avenue and it's the holiday season and you see the beautiful windows with all the beautiful things in the windows, that's your that is your Facebook profile page.
- 35:47SPEAKER_01: Let people see, let people see the sparkle, let people see the shine, and not some of the bad stuff too, like the things that are heartfelt.
- 35:56SPEAKER_01: And that's that was a great tip.
- 35:58SPEAKER_01: So, Wendy, I so appreciate you being on the podcast.
- 36:01SPEAKER_01: Oh, thank you.
- 36:02SPEAKER_01: Um, on being Unstoppable Leadership Spotlight.
