Open your Bibles to Genesis chapter 28, Genesis chapter 28,

the title of our Bible study is God's promises at Jacob's

Ladder. God's promises at Jacob's

Ladder. Let's pick up in verse 1,

Genesis 28. Then Isaac called Jacob and

blessed him and charged him and said to him, you shall not take

a wife from the daughters of Canaan.

Arise go to paddan-aram to the house of bethuel.

Your mother's father, take yourself a wife from their of

the daughters of Laban, your mother's brother.

May God Almighty, bless you and make you fruitful.

And multiply you, that you may be an assembly of people's and

give you the blessing of Abraham.

To you and your descendants with you that you may inherit the

land in, which you are a stranger, which God gave to

Abraham. So Isaac sent Jacob away.

And he went to paddan-aram to Laban the son of bethuel, the

Syrian the brother of Rebecca, the mother of Jacob, and Esau

Esau saw that Isaac had blessed, Jacob, and sent him away, to

paddan-aram to take himself a wife from there.

And that as he blessed him, he gave him a charge, saying you

shall not, Take a wife from the daughters of Canaan and that

Jacob had obeyed his father and his mother and had gone to

paddan-aram verse 8. Also, he saw that the daughters

of Canaan did not please his father.

Isaac. So Esau went to Ishmael and took

Mahalo the daughter of Ishmael, Abraham's son, the sister of

nemea Joseph to be his wife. In addition to the wives he had

after being deceived by his And his son, Isaac apparently has

taken a more spiritual turn in his life.

No longer trying to get around God's plan.

We see Isaac here in this chapter in the backdrop of a

very difficult chapter previously, but we see him as he

surrenders and calls his son to him to bless him.

It's a very important thing. Mom and dad to pronounce

blessings over your children, to encourage them in the

faithfulness of God, shown On in your life and bless them with

the words that he gives you the encouragement.

I know it's challenging in raising kids in this generation

and we can always feel like we're on our heels trying to
3:04
respond to this and trying to protect this and having the
3:07
discipline over there, it's important that you choose.

Those seasons in those times to pronounce blessings.

Over your kids, the blessings of inheritance, the blessings of
3:19
being in your family. I think of My own family and the
3:23
difficulties we've experienced and everything we've gone
3:26
through. But it's important to me over
3:28
the years to remind my kids of the blessings of Salvation that

God has brought to our home. It could have been way worse.

It could have been way more difficult.

I think in Even in our own testimony that had God not saved
3:45
us when he did Maria and I would not be married and our second to
3:50
kids, probably wouldn't be here. It would have been a whole
3:53
different life, a completely different life, but God had a
3:58
plan. Isaac even in the midst of

failure and deception and conniving, his home is a mess.

He chose to take the lead in blessing, his son, he realizes,

I believe that there's no use fighting God, no use trying to
4:15
subvert God, but there's a real peace in resting in God.

Trusting him with our lives. That's true for you and me if
4:22
you've blown it And that's just description of your life today.

If you've stumbled, if you fall in the place of peace is through
4:31
repentance and surrender. The place of Peace doesn't come
4:35
trying to figure everything out, trying to go back track and fix
4:39
this. The place of Peace starts with

repentance, and it continues to surrender and follow through or
4:47
what we would say obedience. Jacob is traveling, he sent
4:53
away, but really, he's running away.

There's a lot of tension between him and he saw, he saw his

Furious his brother. He's vowed to kill him as we
5:04
learned last time, so, he's running away, running for his
5:09
life terrified, and afraid, it's time for him to go.

He's much older at this point and it's time for him to find a

wife. his poor mom, Rebecca will never have a day without sorrow.

Again she's reaping the consequences of her sin If you

weren't with us last time, I encourage you to pick up the

chapter chapter 27. Is a tragic episode in this

family's life. Rebecca didn't trust God.

Another example of jumping in trying to help God out a little

bit. She chose to connive into

scheme. She lied to her husband.

She lied to her kid in our family.

Is the place of greatest Trust. She wrecked at the Proverbs

talks about the woman who tears down her house with her own

hands. It's true for the woman.

It's also true for men. Instead of prayer and Faith.

She plots and manipulates, and as a result of family is

destroyed. Before us everyday is a choice.

The way the New Covenant lays this out for us and Galatians.

Especially in Romans both touch on this before us.

Every day is a choice to walk in the spirit yielded to God or to

walk in the flesh. If you wanted to find flesh, I'm

speaking of the spiritual flesh, not your skin and bones.

The spiritual definition, when you read of the Flesh and the

Bible refers to your old, sinful habit patterns, the natural man.

So many in the church today are satisfied with the natural man.

The Natural Woman stuck in the realm of knowledge, even pride

and arrogance, convinced that you can do it your way that some

truths are for other people, but not for you.

You may have even seen some pseudo success with your

methodologies. And the philosophies that you've

picked up or you're weird doctrine that you've invented or

twist it up and you're just stuck on that and you don't have
7:31
a walk with the Lord anymore. It's not about obeying God.

It's about your little thing. It's about your little
7:37
philosophy about your weird false Doctrine.

You aren't even willing to call it false.

But that's exactly what it is. It's a false way of life.

It's a false source of strength and it's a false teaching.

You're being ripped off. Will we trust and obey God or

will we fret and defy? If we walk in the spirit we're

going to grow in our faith and trust.

However, if we choose to walk in the flesh, we will tear down and

Destroy. I was reminded of my own life,

how important it is in my personal morning devotions, and

I would say it's important for you, your personal morning,

devotions and prayers, should always include the thought and

the request for strength to walk in the spirit Day.

I just need straight God. I don't know what I'm going to

face. I don't know what's going to be

my email box. I don't know what phone calls

I'm going to take. I don't know what disaster or

tragedies kind of come my way. I don't know what attacks are

going to be in my mind. I don't know how the enemies

plotting and planning so Lord, I want to walk in the spirit.

I don't know how I'm going to be offended.

I don't know where I'm going to be tempted to respond in the

flesh, but God help me. Help me to do exactly what you

said. You would bless.

Matthew 6:33, Jesus said, seek first the kingdom of God and his

righteousness, and all these things shall be added unto you.

Therefore, do not worry about tomorrow.

Jesus taught us tomorrow, will worry about its own things.

Sufficient for the day, is its own trouble.

Jacob is off wandering away on his own.

He sent to a particular area where he's going to meet his

match in Old Laban. It's going to meet his match.

He's weary, he's tired, he's struggling, but he leaves with

the blessing, I love that. The blessing verse 3, May God

Almighty, bless you. If that's all you can muster up

over your kids over your wife, over your home, over your

church, over your pastors, over your leaders, just say it, may

God bless you, may you be encouraged and mean it.

Pray blessings over people, pray blessings into their lives.

May he make you fruitful and multiply you, may you be an

assembly of people's. I love that.

He's praying blessing in the expansion of his family, in the

Fulfillment, of the promises of God through Abraham as we'll

see. But you take that back and say,

you know, maybe people just be around, you may, you just people

just want to be around, you may you be an assembly of people.

I love that verse for may. You receive the blessing of

Abraham and today? How would we we were we are kids

of Abraham? We're children of Abraham, but

we have a greater than Abraham. May God, give you the blessings

of the New Covenant in Christ, the crucifixion and

Resurrection, the blood of Jesus.

Who's forgiven, you of all of your sins, may you experience

that c is Born Again. Believers, we have that.

What's often lacking? Is experiencing it, and enjoying

it, and reveling in it. Or even as we learn today

celebrating it, I suspect in some of you in before our

this portion before our service, the Lord ministered to my heart,

to have those in the room, just yell out the number of days.

They've experienced Victory. Many times, that's in level

areas of addiction, but not always.

Ways. There could be new, could be

commitments, there could be new directions and you just

measuring things by numbers. So for those of you that weren't

here, we had all these numbers from 300 to 14 and all

throughout the section. We went section by section and

we were trained. It's A discipleship moment.

And one of the things that I believe, God wants you to leave
11:44
here with, and you guys listening in, is to learn how to

celebrate the victory of God. And some of you, I wonder if you
11:53
are hesitant not because you're embarrassed and not because of
11:56
the attention. But you just are tired of
11:59
talking about your sobriety, you're tired of talking about.

It seems to be that that is how people approach you because
12:07
they're holding you accountable or they want you to be.
12:10
And you just get to the point where I don't, Want numbers
12:12
anymore and you shy away from the victory of the Lord where
12:17
that number is a God's gift to you, you chose her treasure it

because the day before you started counting, you were
12:25
jacked up. Don't forget that.

Don't forget the condition of you on - one day and on - two
12:34
days. So the idea that you celebrate,

so, you know, I've been sober for this many days this many

weeks, this many years. That is God's gift to you, to

remind you that even in the mess even in the faltering, even in
12:49
the destruction of sin, there is victory for you.

You want to celebrate? May you be a people of assembly?

May you receive the blessing of Abraham the blessing of Isaac?

The blessing of Jacob, the blessing of Joseph and every
13:05
other man woman in the scriptures that have experienced
13:08
personal Victory because of their relationship with It's a
13:12
powerful thing. The world doesn't have this if
13:16
we were in the world and we were using the same measurement for
13:21
those that are apart from Christ.

I would be just as excited for them and I would be just as
13:26
happy that they're living in the victory that they're looking for
13:30
except it's all in their own strength.

They can only keep up for so long.
13:35
It's like there's that the sin in their lives is always
13:38
hounding them and tricks they have anything to do with it.

They have to go Back to the plan.
13:42
They have to go back to the book.
13:43
They have to go back to the meeting, they have to go by.

But what you, as a Believers, have you have Victory by the
13:49
indwelling of the holy spirit, so you don't have to go back.

You just need to go forward. The Lord is with you is, will
13:54
see in a moment, you get to the place where you say, man, the
13:57
Lord is in this place. It's not just in this building.

It is everywhere. Your feet had everywhere, your
14:04
sole of your feet touch. God says, like he did to Joshua.

I have given you. So, wherever you are the There

and there's Victory. There he goes on to say, not

only the blessing for you, but for your descendants, your kids,

your grandkids that's a theme throughout.

The scripture that they might inherit the land that you have

something as we would think we have something more.

I even thinking the life of our church, the life of our church

that in the life of our church when we're all gone and these

that if the Rapture doesn't take place and there's another pastor

and another congregation and we're all gone that we have left

an inheritance for the Saints. That blesses people in two

generations. It's not just for us it's not

just for the merely of taking care of our needs.

Our needs are taken care of. So what's next, who else can be

blessed? Who us can be encouraged?

What, where is it that we can test God, where he says, go

ahead and test me. Give of your tithes and

offerings test me. Test me, I can almost hear God

say, go ahead. Try to.

I'll give All right, God, let's do it and you competitive people

go. Yeah, I'm gonna try but it's not

for the sake of competition. It's for the sake of giving an

inheritance to those behind us that are going to come up behind

us, should the Lord tarry even longer than he has.

Says in verse 5, it was a sad day Isaac's ends, Jacob away and

he takes off, pick up with me in verse 10.

Now, now Jacob went down from Beersheba and went toward haran

and he came to a certain place. He stayed there all night

because the sun had set. He took one of the stones of
15:39
that place and put it in his head and lay down in that place

to sleep. We don't get the emotion of

this. Who were reading it Page by Page

and line by line, but this is a passage of scripture.

Overflowing with emotion. if you've ever had, A disaster in

your family. Then you understand what?

I'm speaking of this family. Just imploded And he's now he

has to leave. We look at it from the

perspective, he's moving on and he's going to gain a wife.

And that's that there's blessings even in the

difficulty. But his family just imploded his

mom just lied to him. Used him.

The favortism was Exposed Skin, knocking his daddy.

Separate doesn't know what the future holds his brother wants

to kill him. And he's tired, he's been on a

journey, it's about 40 miles. If you take out your Bible maps

about a day the journey, but he's all overwhelmed the motion,

he's tired, physically, weary despair, hopeless, Wandering out

again away from his family. He comes to this area of shechem

for Bethel. Puts his head down on a rock

tired. I also think of the word

fragile, Difficulties in our life.

Make us pretty fragile. And Jacobs in the Dark Lonely in

a Wilderness place. These make for a great
17:16
ingredients to hear from God. This brings people to a place
17:23
where you have a keen sensitivity to the voice of the

Lord. If you listen, you're just at a

loss. You physically emotionally
17:33
spiritually, you put your head down thinking, what else can be?

I believe there is in every man woman and child on the earth, a
17:44
desire and a hunger and a thirst to experience God.

Now may not come out as the primary focus of their life.

It may never come out. It could be a very personal
17:54
thing that they don't tell anybody about.

But there Comes A Time in every man's life.

When questions arise Where they finally meet the situation, they

cannot handle. It's especially noticeable in
18:12
times of great grief and sorrow. Where is God?

Why did he let this happen? What's going to happen with my

life? What's my future?

And you get the picture with Jacob here.

Struggling with a guilty conscience alone tired separated
18:34
from his family. It's interesting, if you read
18:37
the news, they're talking about the effects of loneliness.

Now, how devastating it is? I don't remember the exact
18:44
number but they equated it to smoking a pack of cigarettes, a
18:48
day or something, the physical effects.
18:51
And I'm always amazed with the culture that we live in because
18:54
when they find something they pretend like they're the first
18:57
ones to find it. They're not the first ones to
19:00
find it. God has already declared these
19:03
truths. They discovered something God
19:06
has already told us. We see example of it right here.

It's so timely for what's in the news today?

Jacob's in a vulnerable place alone and tired separated from
19:19
his family and he's wrestling with questions toward God and he
19:25
falls asleep that way. Let me give you a side note

here, something for you to consider you don't necessarily
19:30
have to agree with it or not, but I do think it fits the
19:33
pattern of Jacob's life. Many commentators, many people
19:37
believe that Jacob is an unsaved man here.

What we would consider an unsaved, man.

You could say in the old Covenant outside of the
19:44
relationship. And Chip or not taking things
19:46
seriously or what they might refer to today.

A secular Jew, he's a part of the community but not a
19:54
worshipping part of the community.

And scripturally, I can see their point in many different

ways. He's been living off the faith

in the belief of his parents and his ancestry.

Even even the blessing that his dad prays over him and declares

over them has everything to do with Abraham, and he like,

everyone else must make a personal commitment, which I

believe happens, right here, a personal Commitment.

If you're taking notes, let me give you the overview of the

next few chapters. Just so you can see this play

out and you can read ahead and see if you don't see the same.

Thing, but here in first, chapter 28, first of all, from

28:30 our chapter 35, they cover about 30 years of Jacob's life.

So as you're reading through the next seven chapters of, so

that's 30 years, it's not day after day, after day or moment.

So, in chapter 28, Jacob is saved.

Surely the Lord is in this place and he declares it then in

chapters 29 to 32. He subdued, he's saved, but

they're still much Change that God needs to do in him.

Then in chapter 33 and 34 he separated unto God, and then

finally in chapter, 35 will see him Sanctified unto God.

It's an interesting thing as you read through verse 12 now.

Then he dreamed and behold, a ladder was set up on the earth

and its top reach the heaven, and they're the angels of God

were ascending and descending upon it.

He falls asleep and he dreams. He's so exhausted.

And he sees a ladder, a better a better translation here.

Would remind you of the famous song that could be translated

stairway rather than ladder, and he sees angels of God ascending

and descending. Which leads us to the question

who, or what is this latter? Turn over to John chapter 1.

I want to show you something as you put together here, God is

doing deep Ministry and Jacob's life here at the beginning,

bringing him and drawing him to himself.

And he gives them this beautiful dream and the latter has great

meaning. When you get to John chapter 1,

Pick up in. Well, let's just go ahead and

use the whole paragraph verse 43.

The following day, Jesus wanted to go to Galilee.

He found Philip and said to him. Follow me now.

Philip with was from bethsaida, the city of Andrew and Peter.

Philip found Nathanael said to him, we have found him of whom

Moses in the law and also the prophets wrote Jesus of

You are the king of Israel. Jesus answered and said to him

Do you believe you will see greater things than these?

And he said, most assuredly I say to you here.

After you shall see Heaven open and the angels of God ascending

and descending. What does your Bible say upon

the son of man? Jacob.

Wait, thousands of years earlier is getting this vision.

Jacob's dream at Bethel. Jesus is saying, I am the

latter, the very access point with God.

Heaven is open and joined to Earth by Jesus.

Jacob is getting that Insight long before it ever happens.

This is a very special moment. This precise picture access to

God, is through Jesus. That's the way in.

It's important that you understand and that when you

share the gospel with others that you understand the

exclusivity of Salvation Jesus declares that he is the only way

the only truth and the only life and no one gets to the father

through except through him, no one apart from him.

There is no salvation. There is no other name under

Heaven by which man must be saved.

Then the name of Jesus Christ, he alone is atoned or paid the

price for your sins. He alone Phone has died and

risen again. He's the ladder.

There's not two ladders, not three, ladders, not five

ladders. There's only one.

He alone is our connection to heaven.

Every other is false. Empty you know, a step stool if

you will my get you 6 inches off the ground but it's not going to

get you where you want to go. Only Jesus is the mediator.

Remember what Jesus said? This makes sense here when he

when he's talking about those teachers that came.

He said in John 10 8. It says all who ever came before

me are thieves and robbers and the Sheep didn't hear them.

There are a lot of folks to offering step ladders and a
25:09
little bit of effort and a little bit of energy but it's

not what Jacob seen. Jacob goes out alone into the

dark Into the Wilderness. He's at a hard spot in his life.

And it's so easy to see the beautiful picture of sleep

because sleep put you in a place of vulnerability yield anise

helplessness. Being hope you don't know.

You're just sleeping and resting and you don't know what's going

to happen around you and you may not realize it but every time

you go to sleep, you're trusting in the Lord.

But you're also in that place of this sweetest surrender.

That place of yielded nastas. I believe that's what God's

waiting for in your life. He's waiting for you to

surrender. You wonder why I had.

What does that look like? It looks like when you fall

asleep. Where you're completely?

Completely, given over to sleep. You're alive, but you're not in

control. You can't even control your
26:09
breathing. God has set that up for you so

that when you go to sleep, you'll wake up alive.

It God has taken care of us so well.

And here he is getting the beautiful Vision verse 13.

Notice and behold the Lord stood above it and said I am the Lord

God of Abraham, your father and the god of Isaac.

And one of the neat things about the blessing that was set over

him is now God is giving him as God speaks in the dream.

It ties him back to what his dad spoke over his life.

All the seeds, all the work, everything got everything.

You're doing in your kids lives and your marriage and your

singleness God is connecting with his word when he speaks to

you, he says I'm the Lord God of Abraham.

Remember the one that your dad blessed you, I'm also the god of

your dad. And the land on which you lie, I

will give to you and your descendants and affirmation of

the blessing. Also your descendants shall be

as the dust of the earth. You shall spread abroad to the

west, and the East, to the North, and the South, and in you
27:22
and in your seed, all the families of the Earth shall be
27:25
blessed, behold. I am with you and will keep you
27:29
wherever you go, and we'll bring you back to this land for.

I will not leave you until I have done.

What I have spoken to you. I think of one word when I hear

these words from God and that's confidence.

God is building his confidence. This messed-up guy, we get, we

get so caught up in the immediate God has something much

bigger for you and it will include the media, by the way,

he'll take care of the he'll never get you.

You know, ten years down the road if he doesn't take care of

the immediate but we just give me the immediate.

Yeah, but it's going to require you to give up your Birthright.
