Transcript
- 0:00Welcome to World View Matters, discussing controversial issues, discerning current events,
- 0:10defending biblical Christianity.
- 0:13No topic, off limits.
- 0:16And now, here's your host, David Firazzo.
- 0:19Well, hello, friends.
- 0:21Thank you so much for tuning in for sharing the podcast and another great guest today.
- 0:27Dean Dwyer is back with us and man, does he have an update that many of you probably
- 0:33are not aware of?
- 0:34But anyway, he is the pastor of Iser Street Baptist Church into Womba, Queensland, Australia.
- 0:41And he's the co-founder of Sound the Alarms Ministries, which has a clear focus on teaching
- 0:47Bible prophecy and the necessity of developing a biblical worldview.
- 0:54You can get information at Iser Street Baptist Church dot com or at SoundTheAlarms dot com.
- 1:02We'll talk a little bit more about his church in a minute.
- 1:05Welcome, pastor and brother, Dean Dwyer, good to see you again.
- 1:10Good day from the land down under, David, how are you?
- 1:12I'm doing great and you're looking good.
- 1:15You've been through a lot.
- 1:16A lot.
- 1:17Yeah, go ahead.
- 1:18Yeah, it's looking good and feeling good, thankfully.
- 1:20So for those who read some of the content at Harbinger's Daily, they'll already know that
- 1:26the last couple of articles are focused on an accident that I was in back in November.
- 1:32So it's been a long journey over the last couple of months.
- 1:35We have a number of motorcycles in our congregation and I'm one of them or can I say I was one of
- 1:40them because after what I went through, I think motorcycles are done for me, but I was
- 1:44coming home one afternoon and the long and the short of it was that I pulled up behind
- 1:50some traffic and the lady behind me driving a motor vehicle, she didn't pull up.
- 1:56And so I was rear-ended and we call it our miracle, this accident because unfortunately,
- 2:03she hit me with such force that I was thrown quite significantly from the bike, ended
- 2:10up with a broken back.
- 2:11So I broke my L2 vertebra in three places and we had a compression to the L3.
- 2:18Because of the nature of the brake to the L2, it's not something that you can just leave
- 2:23and walk around with because it takes a few months to heal.
- 2:26So they did have to go in and operate and stabilize all of that.
- 2:31So that was all OK initially and that went well, but unfortunately, as many of us know,
- 2:37there's a little thing called infection that often wrecks havoc in our bodies.
- 2:40So sadly, they'll develop a pretty severe infection and when you're talking about infection
- 2:45and you're spying, then it's pretty serious matters.
- 2:48So they did have to go back in, operate, I mean, I don't know what they did in there,
- 2:53but when I woke up from that second surgery, they must have used a water blaster
- 2:57or something in there because it was painful getting all that infection out.
- 3:00So yeah, so it's two pretty big surgeries, a lot of pain still in quite a bit of discomfort,
- 3:09but up and walking about and going, well, we call it a miracle
- 3:15because despite the fact I walked away with a pretty serious injury,
- 3:20my helmet came off mid-flight in the accident.
- 3:25So I landed on the pavement with no helmet on paddle.
- 3:29Goodness.
- 3:30So that's why we call it a miracle because David, for anyone who comes off a motorcycle,
- 3:35if you're not wearing a helmet, then nine times out of 10, you're walking away with a head injury.
- 3:39So the only minor scratch ahead was a minor scratch to my left eyelid and that was it.
- 3:46So God protected me big time during that.
- 3:50So we unashamedly call this God's miracle and God's preservation.
- 3:56Oh, wow.
- 3:57And so you must have landed on your back then, right?
- 4:00Yeah, well, the surgeons believe that I landed on my buttocks.
- 4:05Pretty funny picture to imagine, but there was only two choices, all of them.
- 4:09I come down on the buttocks or I come down on my head and I could tell you without a helmet,
- 4:13then the buttocks was.
- 4:15Well, praise God.
- 4:16You're back to writing.
- 4:18You're back in the pulpit, but Dean, just take your time and just share,
- 4:24you know, the spiritual struggle maybe you've had, you know, you're in the midst of effective
- 4:31ministry at your church and and writing and ministering the people and teaching.
- 4:37And this happens, you know, we're never ready for anything like this.
- 4:42What are some of the things you went through, you know, just emotionally spiritually?
- 4:46Just go ahead and share.
- 4:48Yeah, absolutely.
- 4:49Thank you, David.
- 4:50I think for anyone who goes through a major trauma, it affects you in a lot of different ways.
- 4:55And I think for Christians as well, we,
- 4:57we underestimate how it's going to affect us spiritually.
- 5:02So, you know, I unashamedly tell people, and you can see coming through some of those articles
- 5:06that I struggled a lot during the second surgery.
- 5:11So there was a point there where, yeah, you have some reflection and you go, okay,
- 5:16well, why did God choose to bring this into my life?
- 5:20But I was reading a book from Dr. David Jeremiah and he said something that really resonated
- 5:26with me because he went through a similar experience many years ago when he had cancer.
- 5:31And he wrote a paragraph in his book where he said the same thing.
- 5:35Ministry was going, well, his digital ministry was going, he was writing books,
- 5:39his church was growing, then all of a sudden God brought cancer into his life.
- 5:44And he said, he was so confused.
- 5:45Why, why would this happen at the pinnacle of my ministry?
- 5:49And he came to the point of view where he said, well, the question wasn't why it was what?
- 5:56What is God trying to teach me during all of this?
- 5:59So that was a big lesson for me as I read through that book.
- 6:03So it was a wonderful book called Shelter in God.
- 6:06So it took you through all of the Psalms and brought a great deal of encouragement into my life.
- 6:10But I was listening to an interview the other day from a pastor.
- 6:15And the host asked in a question, he said, at what point were you broken?
- 6:20And for me, I can identify that as well because there's a time there when I was just
- 6:25before the second surgery and I was in hospital.
- 6:27And I can truly say that I was broken physically.
- 6:30I was broken emotionally.
- 6:31I was broken spiritually.
- 6:33And for some people, that might be uncomfortable to hear a pastor say that.
- 6:38But sometimes I don't think God can further his working you until you were broken.
- 6:44Until you know that there is no one, nothing else to call upon except him.
- 6:49And certainly that was my experience there.
- 6:52Amen.
- 6:53We did a podcast last week with a friend of ours over at Servants of Grace.
- 6:57His name is Dave Jenkins.
- 6:58He's got a book out called Contentment.
- 7:01And he was sharing some very open and vulnerable things about the fact that, hey, I'm an author,
- 7:06but doesn't mean I have it all together.
- 7:08And he said he struggled more during writing that book on contentment.
- 7:13And we talked about the Apostle Paul and his book of Philippians.
- 7:18But anyway, Dean Dwyer, for those that are either in Australia or know somebody over there,
- 7:25please give the location and just a direction to where your church is in case they wanted to look up
- 7:32Isaac Street Baptist Church.
- 7:35Yeah, thank you, David.
- 7:36So we're on the East Coast of Australia.
- 7:38So I had a sister reach out to me from the West Coast and she said, oh, look,
- 7:42enjoy this interview last time, but he is from the East Coast.
- 7:44So we'll forgive that.
- 7:45So there's a bit of content between East Coast and West Coast, but where are the East Coast
- 7:51of Australia? So we're in Queensland.
- 7:54So we're like the Florida of Australia.
- 7:56We have like nine months of summer and three months of winter.
- 7:59So the weather's pretty glorious.
- 8:01So the capital of Queensland is Brisbane.
- 8:03And so we're about 90 minutes west of Brisbane.
- 8:07So not too far if you're looking for, you know, great Bible-believing church that loves the
- 8:13word of God has the right teaching about Israel.
- 8:17You know, we don't teach replacement theology and that's an important point in this day and age.
- 8:22You know, check out our website with active on social media.
- 8:25So we post all of our sermons up to YouTube as well.
- 8:30Haven't had any strikes yet, David.
- 8:31So we'll fly under the radar at the moment.
- 8:33So we'll see how that goes.
- 8:35All right.
- 8:35Well, again, it's IZER EISER StreetST Baptist Church.
- 8:42Of course, Dean is over at Harbinger's Daily, one of the contributors there.
- 8:49And they, of course, are really supportive of worldview matters.
- 8:53And my ministry, it's God's given us favor with them.
- 8:56And they are just wonderful.
- 9:00What a blessing.
- 9:00But Dean, let's, unless there's anything else you wanted to share
- 9:06since we talked last and what you've been through, we can transition to some of the notes you
- 9:11sent me on maybe some of the other things we can get into today.
- 9:14What I titled your notes was war on truth and natural order.
- 9:19And I will just let you for the first next couple of minutes before we take a quick break.
- 9:24Just open up this topic and share your immediate thoughts on it.
- 9:30Yeah, sure.
- 9:30Before we close off, the issue is regarding the accident.
- 9:33I just want to say thank you to you.
- 9:34Thank you to the team at Harbinger's Daily.
- 9:37Thanks also to John Pennell because you're all a great encouragement during that time.
- 9:42And I thank you for putting me in touch with John because, as you know, he has a very similar story.
- 9:46So he was a great encouragement.
- 9:48So thank you to all those who reached out and we're praying just wonderful.
- 9:53And keep praying for Dean's complete recovery and healing back to 100% as much as he can get
- 10:00back to full strength.
- 10:01But John Pennell is at Calvary Chapel Lake Villa, Illinois.
- 10:05I've been there to his church.
- 10:07He's been on this show.
- 10:08We did two shows on free masonry.
- 10:11You might remember he's been watching for a while.
- 10:14Guys that are watching and listening, his father, his dad was a free mason.
- 10:19And so we kind of exposed that religion of works.
- 10:25You know, some call it a cult.
- 10:27But anyway, it is not Christian.
- 10:28But anyway, he broke his neck last year.
- 10:33So that's why I'm sure you guys had some good conversations to encourage and sharpen one another.
- 10:40Okay, so Dean, one of the things you said in the notes that you sent me.
- 10:46Thank you for all this liberal is liberalism is founded upon the shifting sands of sinful
- 10:53man. It seems like that was a paraphrase of a quote by J. Gresham Mason.
- 10:59Is that right?
- 11:01That's right.
- 11:01And I think your viewers can see at the bottom of the screen, David, where I got that from.
- 11:05So during my layoff, I've been reading a really good book by a wonderful author named David Fierraso.
- 11:11So I saw it on the image of God.
- 11:13So brother thoroughly enjoying it up to chapter six.
- 11:16So for anyone watching, get a copy.
- 11:18It is wonderful.
- 11:19So yeah, you're absolutely right, David.
- 11:21That's paraphrasing that quote from him.
- 11:23So I've mentioned that in the notes because realistically,
- 11:27that's essentially what we're seeing in the world today is that liberalism has really taken
- 11:32whole, not only unfortunately in the world, but also in some elements in the church as well.
- 11:37So what that does, though, David, is that when you start talking about liberalism and the
- 11:42shifting sands of culture, is that that really leads to something that man wants to validate.
- 11:48Man wants to validate himself.
- 11:49Man wants to validate his own sin because really what is man, you know, man who are prideful,
- 11:56they want to be their own gods.
- 11:58And so I'm going to read you a part of the scripture and we can understand why mankind wants
- 12:04validation for their own actions rather than submitting to a holy God.
- 12:09He wants to pervert truth and, last year, I preached a three-part series.
- 12:14The perversion of truth, the inversion of truth, and the distortion of truth.
- 12:18And this is really the enemy's attack on truth.
- 12:21And so what mankind wants to do, he wants to pervert truth so that he can continue undertaking
- 12:28his perverted acts. That's essentially what mankind's trying to do.
- 12:32And it comes from John 3 verses 20 and 21.
- 12:37Says, for everyone practicing evil hates the light and does not come to the light,
- 12:44less his deeds should be exposed.
- 12:49But he who does the truth comes to the light that his deeds may be clearly seen that they have
- 12:55been done in God. So that's why people want to suppress the truth. David, that's why they want
- 13:00to pervert the truth because truth rebukes the vile sin that the world embraces.
- 13:08So we see if they want to remain in darkness, they want to remain in their sin,
- 13:11then they have to pervert the truth of what sin is in this age.
- 13:17And Jesus, of course, is the truth. And yeah, Satan would like to water down the truth,
- 13:23redefine the truth. We've got such a confused culture and confused world today,
- 13:29Dean, because of these things that have been happening. The enemy pulling out all the stops
- 13:35and redefining truth. And that's one of his, he's the author of lies, with father of lies,
- 13:41author of lies, confusion. But before we continue on this, because there's so many good points
- 13:48you have here and some great scriptures to share, just want to take a really quick break,
- 13:52we'll be right back with Pastor Dean Dwyer.
- 14:06John 17, 17 says, sanctify them by your truth. Your word is truth. Jesus is praying that
- 14:21in John chapter 17 to the father. And so we know the word of God is truth. Dean, go ahead and
- 14:27continue and share whatever thoughts you'd like. Yeah, amen. Thank you, David. So the Bible,
- 14:32when we read the Bible, we know that it treats truth as a treasure. But, you know,
- 14:37unfortunately, in the world today, it treats it as an inconvenience. So when the world looks at truth,
- 14:43they say, okay, well, this is just an obstacle to the way we want to live. How does the world want
- 14:47to live? They want to live in sin. So what do they need to do in order to continue their sin for
- 14:52lifestyles? Well, we need to marginalize truth. We need to change truth, pervert truth, distort
- 14:58truth so that in their mind there's no fixed truth and therefore nothing that condemns them in
- 15:04their actions. But, you know, we know as believers, we need to treasure the truth, the truth of God's
- 15:09word. But unfortunately, what we see in the world today, and this was the point of my recent article,
- 15:15which you can find up on Harbinger's daily, the meddling of the modern mixed multitude, we have
- 15:21elements within Christianity who have an appetite for things of the world. So in some ways, you know,
- 15:27we're responsible in some elements of the church for watering down the truth in order to accommodate
- 15:33those who have come in so that they don't be offended. So this is part of the problem. We need to
- 15:39get back to really the truth of God's word. And if we talk about truth from the word, God's truth
- 15:46is given in a threefold way and you touched on one of them, David, his word is truth, John 1717.
- 15:52If you come to our church, you'll find that scripture verse quoted on our sign as you drive in.
- 15:58We know his son is truth. You quoted that before, John 146. And we know his spirit is truth.
- 16:04That's taken from 1 John 5, 6. That reads, and it is the spirit who bears witness because the spirit
- 16:11is truth. So truth's given to us in a threefold way. We need as Christians and as pastors,
- 16:18we need to embrace that truth, preach that truth, live that truth once again because you know,
- 16:24the enemy's out there, as you say, warring on truth. And he hates truth. He hates truth because
- 16:31we're saved by it. He hates truth because we're sanctified by it as well. And the last thing
- 16:36the enemy wants in this age is for believers to be living a sanctifier life once again. That's
- 16:43what the enemy fears most is that the church is going to wake up and be the church that God's
- 16:48called us to be. You know, we have a saying that I often use and we take this from the book of
- 16:53Esther. And remember in Esther, you know, she's told, who knows if you would come into the kingdom
- 16:58for such a time as this? David, we know that as believers, we were born for such a time as this,
- 17:04but it's time that we live for such a time as this. And that we're talking about the church and
- 17:10believers. You shared 1 Timothy 315, then Paul, Paul writes to Timothy and he says, I rate this so
- 17:17you may know how you ought to conduct yourself in the house of God, which is the church of the living
- 17:25God, the pillar and ground of the truth, the foundation of truth, so that the church,
- 17:34we don't see that or we don't get that image or impression in our heads today. I guess because
- 17:39we've unfortunately had some rotten fruit, if I can put it that way, coming out of fruit and
- 17:45some believers' lives, I know there's a remnant of really good pastors and good churches out there,
- 17:51but they're in the minority. Go ahead, Dean, your thoughts. Yeah, absolutely. And we have to affirm
- 17:57those, David, and you have, you know, those people on your show, you know, there are many wonderful
- 18:02pastors and if you go on to Harbinger's Daily, you find a list of them. There are many great
- 18:06preachers out there. Unfortunately, as you said, there are remnants and this is why, you know, we
- 18:12collectively come together and this is what Harbingers Daily do so well. They collect the remnant,
- 18:17so we've got a lot of trusted ministries that you can go to that site, you know, they've been
- 18:21vetted and you know, they can be trusted. So, David, when you talk about, you know, our role
- 18:26in the church, and this is, remember, this isn't just the pastor's role, we're all part of the
- 18:31royal priesthood, so this is the role of every believer when Paul's writing to Timothy that the
- 18:36church is the pillar and the ground of the truth. Well, what does a pillar do? It upholds your building,
- 18:42so we need to uphold the truth. And what does a foundation do? Well, it makes sure that your
- 18:49building stays to a fixed location. Now, we have fixed truth, you know, the enemy has introduced
- 18:54subjectivity concerning truth, so it gets blown around with cultural winds, but the foundation is
- 19:01it's a fixed foundation because we have the complete canon of scripture, so our role as believers
- 19:07is to make sure that we're upholding God's truth and making sure God's truth is not, is not moved
- 19:14from how it's read and how it's written in the word of God. That's what we should be doing in this
- 19:19age, but unfortunately, we've got, we've bought into this lie that we can accept, you know, other
- 19:26types of truth into our worship buildings. Well, it's not going to work that way because what that
- 19:31does, that introduces confusion. And as you said before, Satan is the author of confusion, so he
- 19:39knows he can't defeat the church, but he can erode the teaching of the church. And unfortunately,
- 19:44that's what we see in this legacy and era age. Yeah, he's a great deceiver. Yeah, and the counterfeiter.
- 19:52Amen. I like one of the other verses you shared when it comes to truth. You say people hate
- 19:59truth because they will be judged by it. And Psalm 96 verse 13 says, for he is coming, for he is
- 20:07coming to judge the earth. He shall judge the world with righteousness and the people with his
- 20:16truth. Dean, we don't like to talk about becoming judgment, but that's part of the gospel. I mean,
- 20:22you can't just say one of the, I think one of the worst things you can do is tell people just the
- 20:29good things that you can have by becoming a Christian. There are some good things. There are benefits,
- 20:34but it's not the whole gospel. If you're not talking about God's judgment, just your thoughts on
- 20:40that. I know you have some. Yeah, thank you, though. So, you know, when you talk about and some of the
- 20:47the context when some of the scriptures were being written is that we had judges who were being
- 20:53bright. We had judges who were corrupt. So the people were yearning for justice. And that's what
- 20:58we should be doing as believers as well. You know, as you say, people grow uncomfortable with the
- 21:04concept of judgment, but it's clearly taught in the Word of God. We should be yearning for God's
- 21:08judgment, because he's going to righteously judge the earth. Now, he's going to righteously judge
- 21:13us as believers as well, not for our salvation, but for our rewards. We know that we'll stand
- 21:18before the Bema seat, where we'll be judged for rewards based on what we've done in the body,
- 21:23in the flesh. But given what we see around the world, David, you know, abortion, violence,
- 21:30corruptibility, all of these things, shouldn't we be yearning for God's judgment so that Christ
- 21:36can righteously rule and reign in the millennial kingdom. I don't understand why Christians
- 21:40don't accept this doctrine of judgment, because what comes after it is perfect rule and reign from
- 21:48our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ Himself. So this is something that we shouldn't show away from,
- 21:52because at the moment, I find that there's a lot of unbelievers asking more questions and
- 21:58believers about what's happening in the world today. So we need to be able to give an answer to
- 22:03all of these people and also to give them hope, because they look around. They don't see any hope
- 22:09at the moment, but we know that there's a living hope, a blessed hope, and that's found in Christ.
- 22:14Yes, I was just reading something just in between shows today. I was reading about the suicide
- 22:20attempt rate or the suicide rate, the numbers increasing. I think if I remember right, don't quote
- 22:26me, but I believe it said, is it every 11 minutes someone dies by suicide? I think that's what it was.
- 22:35But nonetheless, even if that's that number's off, the truth is people are in despair. They are
- 22:41confused. They are discouraged or depressed. They're not dealing with what's happening in the
- 22:47world today in a healthy way. I don't know who I was talking to about this Dean, but I don't know
- 22:53how unbelievers do it. People that don't know God, that don't have that fixed, that strong foundation
- 23:00of the Word of God to stand on and the hope that we have beyond this life. I don't know how they do it.
- 23:08Absolutely. But funny, you should say that. My wife was talking to a friend yesterday, and unfortunately,
- 23:12her son is quite ill. He's only 21 and he's got an aggressive form of cancer. Now she's an
- 23:18unbeliever, but she said to my wife, that if I had more faith, I would struggle a lot more with
- 23:24this scenario. And that really confused us. And all we could put it down to is, well, maybe she
- 23:30believes that life ends at death, and there's no more suffering. But you and I know, David, that
- 23:35there's a Christless eternity for unbelievers, and that's going to be an eternity of punishment.
- 23:40So it's really sad to see people still buy into this lie that Satan has brought that your life
- 23:46is going to end on death. It's going to go on, and you're going to go on either in God's kingdom,
- 23:51or you're going to be in the lake of fire. So this is an urgent warning. I know you're very
- 23:55passionate about talking about this, David, that people need to get serious because this church
- 24:02age is winding up very, very quickly. And so people need to get serious about where they stand with God.
- 24:08Yes, they have a choice between life and death. And let's wrap up these last couple minutes with
- 24:14your website, soundthealarms.com. Dean, go ahead and just share your thoughts because people do
- 24:21have a decision to make and we who are believers have the best news in the universe to share with
- 24:27those about the truth of eternity. Amen. So in Psalm 145 verse 18, the passage says, the Lord is near
- 24:36to all who call upon him. And often a lot of people, when they're quoting that sound, they
- 24:40stop there. But the Psalm actually goes on. It says to all who call upon him in truth. Amen.
- 24:48And so that's a really important point. We know John 146, Jesus said, I am the way, the truth,
- 24:53and the life. No one comes under the Father except through me. So we know that truth is a fundamental
- 25:00part of our relationship with God because that's part of his character. So what we do through sound
- 25:05the alarms, it comes from it's inspired from the book of Joel, a Joel chapter two where it says
- 25:12blow trumpet sound the alarm in Zion. So that's where we got that title, sound the alarm. And that's
- 25:18what we try to do, David, is that we try to get the message out there primarily to the church
- 25:25because we know that there are many in the church who are asleep. So we want to sound an alarm
- 25:30in the church. We know that God, if God's going to bring revival, I don't see revival in the last
- 25:36days in the Bible. But if God is going to do something, he's going to start with the church.
- 25:41You know, we like to point fingers out into the world saying, well, the world needs to get their
- 25:45act together. Well, David, the church needs to get their act together because we are the ones
- 25:49who hold the truth and we are the ones who should be preaching the truth and preaching the grace
- 25:54of the gospel of Jesus Christ. We need to be evangelized in our churches around the world. Christian
- 26:02churches, not every church, but there's a lot of churches that don't have true believers
- 26:09or they're believing a false gospel. So and or they're not living for the Lord. We need
- 26:16you know, we're sending missionaries elsewhere all over the world. And yes, that's great. Jesus
- 26:20did say going to all the world, but right in our own churches, it's particularly in America,
- 26:26boy, do we need to be saved? Do we need the gospel in American churches? I know we talked about
- 26:32our very first show we did together was the American and the Australian church. And so we've
- 26:39talked about this before. We need not just revival. We need people to believe. Yes. So you're
- 26:45you're closing thoughts, Dean, and we'll wrap up. Well, we need people to lead as well, you know,
- 26:50and this is where we need great undershepards of the sheep. And we thank you all of those who are
- 26:54doing that. But we need more. Let's stand up. Amen. So Dean Dwyer, again, the Iser Street Baptist Church
- 27:02dot com. You can go to Harbinger's daily. He's one of the authors and contributors there.
- 27:08Dean, I just appreciate your perspective. We're going to have you on again next week because when
- 27:13we can connect from Australia, we like to take advantage of that. We're so glad you're feeling
- 27:18better and you're getting back up to full speed. And just a blessing to see you again, brother.
- 27:23God bless. We'll talk to you. Amen. Thank you, David. All right, guys, thanks again for tuning in.
- 27:28Let me just look at the schedule here tomorrow. Pastor Matt Trewella. We're going to talk about
- 27:34the doctrine of the lesser magistrates, a very important doctrine on tomorrow's show. God bless
- 27:40you. And as always, keep speaking the truth about things that matter.
