Latest / Inside the Birds: A Philadelphia Eagles Podcast / ITB: Bye Week Self-Scout-- What Philadelphia Eagles Need To Do In Second Half
Transcript
- 0:09Speaker 1: Inside the Birds is back. What's going on, everybody? It's
- 0:15Speaker 1: Jeff Mosher and Adam Kaplan at the end of the
- 0:19Speaker 1: Eagles bye week, and we are doing to do our
- 0:22Speaker 1: annual bye week Eagles Self Scout episode. We're gonna tell
- 0:26Speaker 1: you what the Eagles have been thinking through this bye week,
- 0:28Speaker 1: what they gotta work on, what they gotta do as
- 0:30Speaker 1: it will not be long, Adam. It's just you know,
- 0:33Speaker 1: everybody's gonna enjoy the weekend and happy Halloween to those
- 0:35Speaker 1: who celebrate. Right, it won't be long. Where it's the
- 0:39Speaker 1: turn of the page. We'll have our weekend NFL football action,
- 0:42Speaker 1: and then the Eagles will be back on Monday. I
- 0:44Speaker 1: guess for something light. You know. Nick Sirianni said they
- 0:46Speaker 1: were gonna do something on Monday, but then Thursday they'll
- 0:49Speaker 1: reconvene to practice for or against, I say, the Monday
- 0:54Speaker 1: night game against the Backers.
- 0:55Speaker 2: Yeah, it's cool. They get some time off board. Do
- 0:57Speaker 2: they need it? I mean they you have to remember
- 0:59Speaker 2: they want Super Bowl, so they're seasons longer than everyone
- 1:02Speaker 2: else is. With banquet circuit, whatever the case may be,
- 1:06Speaker 2: getting healthy, getting guys off their feet. You know, hopefully
- 1:08Speaker 2: they've had a good week and the coaches always work
- 1:11Speaker 2: unless they're any Reid. Well no, I know Andy would
- 1:13Speaker 2: send the players out. The coach is just about every
- 1:15Speaker 2: bye week, they work usually till Thursday. Some coach will
- 1:19Speaker 2: keep them on Friday, but give them Saturday and Sunday off.
- 1:22Speaker 2: But the problem is if you if you give them
- 1:26Speaker 2: Sunday off, then the players are on a Monday. You
- 1:28Speaker 2: know what the coaches may feel like they have to
- 1:29Speaker 2: come in on Sunday. Bottom line is are gonna coach
- 1:33Speaker 2: will get a couple of days off to recharge. But
- 1:34Speaker 2: the players are the big thing here. They got to
- 1:36Speaker 2: get rested, healed up the best as possible, just recharge
- 1:40Speaker 2: and clear their mind. And here we go the gauntlet. Boy,
- 1:44Speaker 2: the schedule has been somewhat favorable to the Eagles. But
- 1:47Speaker 2: what I don't like and I never got the I've
- 1:50Speaker 2: never seen this before. We talked about this when it
- 1:53Speaker 2: came out in May, but this deal that they don't
- 1:55Speaker 2: play two home games in a row is just absurd.
- 1:58Speaker 1: Wow, it is crazy.
- 1:59Speaker 2: Yeah, it's yeah, because remember it's at Green Bay home
- 2:03Speaker 2: against the Lions, at the Cowboys Black Friday home against
- 2:06Speaker 2: the Bears, at the Chargers home against the Raiders. Why
- 2:10Speaker 2: don't they just have both where the Raider game should
- 2:12Speaker 2: have been out West, thats where they could stay out
- 2:13Speaker 2: for the at West for the week.
- 2:15Speaker 1: But anyway, yeah, no, it's crazy, it is, it is,
- 2:18Speaker 1: and hey, but but look, there's no bye week for us, right.
- 2:21Speaker 1: I feel like we've produced as much content, if not
- 2:23Speaker 1: more than normal during the bye week. So just to
- 2:27Speaker 1: remind people what we have coming up, because there's no game,
- 2:32Speaker 1: so there will not be a game preview with Greg Cosell. However,
- 2:35Speaker 1: it doesn't mean we're not doing a show. We are
- 2:37Speaker 1: doing a show with Greg Cosell. We're gonna ask him
- 2:40Speaker 1: and the timing couldn't be more perfect to give us
- 2:43Speaker 1: his tape breakdown on the new Eagles audition. I almost
- 2:46Speaker 1: said cornerback. I'll say defensive back, Michael Carter the second.
- 2:50Speaker 1: He's also going to get into Nikobe Dean's usage a
- 2:52Speaker 1: little bit, since Dean's been back on defense for the
- 2:54Speaker 1: last two games against the Vikings and the Giants, and
- 2:57Speaker 1: we'll just we'll get his input and his tape observation
- 3:00Speaker 1: on that and that'll be out, I believe, on Sunday morning,
- 3:05Speaker 1: if not Saturday. For our Patreon members. So yeah, and
- 3:09Speaker 1: then we've got our normal stuff as we've had all week,
- 3:12Speaker 1: and Greg has broken down the tape, and Ray Didtinger
- 3:14Speaker 1: and Derek Gunn did their Birds weeklies, and obviously they're
- 3:18Speaker 1: not doing a game preview, but the one that drops
- 3:20Speaker 1: today is sort of their own analysis going into the
- 3:23Speaker 1: by They're gonna take a look around the rest of
- 3:24Speaker 1: the NFL, the NFC East, and then also give their
- 3:27Speaker 1: little uh you know, their their insights really on on
- 3:30Speaker 1: the Eagles too.
- 3:31Speaker 2: By the way, I don't think some of the fans,
- 3:35Speaker 2: the Giant fans were not happy with Greg about what
- 3:37Speaker 2: he said about Jackson Dart.
- 3:39Speaker 1: You know, it's kind of funny. I was. I saw
- 3:41Speaker 1: some of the comments, and I hoped Eagles fans saw that.
- 3:44Speaker 1: Eagles fans who think that Greg has it out sometimes
- 3:47Speaker 1: for Lan Hurtz saw that and said, oh, well, now
- 3:52Speaker 1: he just really you know, he's very honest and objective
- 3:54Speaker 1: with his critique and just tells you what the tapes.
- 3:56Speaker 1: It's not just Jalen. I mean, he was, he was,
- 3:59Speaker 1: you know, keeping in mind that Jackson Dart is a rookie,
- 4:02Speaker 1: which Greg did say. He was just pointing out times
- 4:05Speaker 1: that he just couldn't see where the openings were. And
- 4:09Speaker 1: you know, he used the phrase seeing it but not
- 4:12Speaker 1: seeing it, meaning the bodies are all in front of you,
- 4:14Speaker 1: but you're just stuck in the pocket and not throwing
- 4:16Speaker 1: the ball, something I learned from Ron Jaworski. But I
- 4:19Speaker 1: was hoping that everybody took a good look at that
- 4:22Speaker 1: and realized that it's it's not just Jalen hurts that.
- 4:24Speaker 1: You know, he's just honest with everybody on what he
- 4:26Speaker 1: SE's on tape.
- 4:27Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean, he he It was very strong. His
- 4:31Speaker 2: comments were critical, but it was just what the tape
- 4:33Speaker 2: told him. But there was it was really strong. It's
- 4:37Speaker 2: about the strongest of comments he's ever made on our
- 4:40Speaker 2: shows with him about quarterback play. Yeah, that wasn't positive,
- 4:43Speaker 2: but again it's nothing personal, right, He's been evaluating quarterback
- 4:47Speaker 2: tape for nearly thirty years. I've sat with him in
- 4:51Speaker 2: Jaws and other coaches over the years. Paul Gunther's sat
- 4:56Speaker 2: in there by the way with us is now at
- 4:58Speaker 2: UNLV former Raiders events. Cord Rod Russell Gregg's talk about
- 5:01Speaker 2: has passed away. Rod was the one year was the
- 5:05Speaker 2: Patriots head coach. One of most brilliant minds on defense.
- 5:08Speaker 2: Just all the mines that would come in and talk football.
- 5:11Speaker 1: Yeah, but Matt drops either.
- 5:15Speaker 2: Yes, actually worked for what I think, Well, I don't
- 5:18Speaker 2: know you worked for him like the Temple head coach,
- 5:20Speaker 2: the football coach Casey Keeler actually worked for Greg one
- 5:22Speaker 2: year valuing tape, but no Spags was. He asked Greg,
- 5:26Speaker 2: if you come in because he's still he had a
- 5:28Speaker 2: house in the area. Yep, So I actually met that.
- 5:30Speaker 2: It's really weird. I met the guy who bought Spags
- 5:33Speaker 2: his house at some event. Look, did you know Steve Spagnol.
- 5:36Speaker 2: I'm like, why you asked, just oh, I bought his house?
- 5:39Speaker 2: Well really you did? I don't know think I was anyway.
- 5:43Speaker 2: You know he's got money, yeah, exactly, Yeah, probably the
- 5:46Speaker 2: mainline house. But you know, overall, look it it we're
- 5:49Speaker 2: at the it's I think to buy, you know. I
- 5:52Speaker 2: know Nick was asked that and it was, oh the
- 5:54Speaker 2: perfect perfect time. Last year the buy was at four weeks, right,
- 5:58Speaker 2: but so this one's at nine weeks. Okay, Yeah, it's good.
- 6:02Speaker 2: I honestly i'd rather who would not want to have
- 6:04Speaker 2: it midway point? You know? Mid I know it's to
- 6:06Speaker 2: an eighteen week season games. Why not.
- 6:10Speaker 1: I tell you I've bet a few offensive linemen. Don't
- 6:12Speaker 1: mind I tell you that, right, you know, Cam Jurgens,
- 6:15Speaker 1: Landed Dickerson. They really could use a couple of days
- 6:18Speaker 1: of rest. So that's good. We've had all that stuff. Remember,
- 6:21Speaker 1: every single podcast we do is on our Patreon channel
- 6:26Speaker 1: before it's up a night before, sometimes longer before that,
- 6:30Speaker 1: it goes up on the mainstream and it goes up
- 6:32Speaker 1: without any single ad in it. And that is Patreon
- 6:36Speaker 1: dot com slash Inside the Birds. It is the very
- 6:39Speaker 1: best way to enjoy not only Inside the Birds coverage,
- 6:42Speaker 1: but bonus content, including our chalk talk, including our Ask
- 6:47Speaker 1: an Eagle live stream, including our weekly Asked Greg Cosell
- 6:50Speaker 1: that we put a little snippet of on our mainstream platform.
- 6:53Speaker 1: But it's even better when you get to personally ask
- 6:55Speaker 1: your own questions and have them answer them in a
- 6:58Speaker 1: live stream. That is all for our Patreon members Patreon
- 7:01Speaker 1: dot com slash Inside the Birds. And I do want
- 7:04Speaker 1: to shout out Barrett Brooks from a NBC Sports Philly
- 7:07Speaker 1: former Eagles off at the Linement as well, joined us
- 7:09Speaker 1: on the WBCB Show Tuesday, myself and Andrew we were
- 7:13Speaker 1: live at Chicky's and Pete's and he was awesome. He
- 7:16Speaker 1: was so nice to everybody who stopped by. He was
- 7:18Speaker 1: great to my family. He's he's one. He is just
- 7:20Speaker 1: a really really genuine salt of the earth dude. Barrett
- 7:25Speaker 1: Brooks is and it's really cool. He's a great dude. Yeah.
- 7:29Speaker 2: Yeah, he's one of the nicest guys ever. So you
- 7:32Speaker 2: guys are at Marlton. So it's Andrew and I this
- 7:33Speaker 2: Tuesday at Roosevelt Boulevard, okay, and the autograph hounds were there. Man,
- 7:38Speaker 2: it was crazy how many people are getting autogressed. But
- 7:40Speaker 2: Will Shipley's awesome with the people. That was greatly respectful.
- 7:44Speaker 2: And as I was saying one of the shows, like,
- 7:46Speaker 2: it was remarkable the pictures there. I don't know where
- 7:48Speaker 2: they got these pictures, Like who knows, but oh, could
- 7:52Speaker 2: you sign up for you know whoever? It? Will's fine
- 7:54Speaker 2: with it, but just to find these pictures like you've
- 7:57Speaker 2: never seen before, Like wow, it's pretty interesting. So yeah,
- 8:00Speaker 2: we don't know if we're gonna have a player or not,
- 8:01Speaker 2: but if not, Andrew will be signing autogress for you.
- 8:05Speaker 1: I'll be first in line. Hey, Philly fans, game day
- 8:07Speaker 1: is stressful enough. Parking, traffic, long lines, We've all been there,

- 8:58Speaker 1: Camedn Apothecary, top quality cannabis, great prices, and an experience
- 9:03Speaker 1: made for Philly fans twenty one and up. All right,
- 9:06Speaker 1: let's start off with ourselves. Gout and by the way,
- 9:08Speaker 1: this whole don't let me forget this Michael Carter addition
- 9:12Speaker 1: and the discussions we've had. I had a thought when
- 9:15Speaker 1: we get to defense about who I think is one
- 9:17Speaker 1: of the most important players for the Eagles coming out
- 9:19Speaker 1: of the by Do not let me forget to mention that.
- 9:22Speaker 1: But let's start with offense. I think you know, we
- 9:25Speaker 1: both agree that the Eagles found something in their last
- 9:30Speaker 1: two games, but especially in their last game with getting
- 9:33Speaker 1: their outside run a little more in gear. You know,
- 9:36Speaker 1: the under center is good, A lot more under is terrible. Yeah,
- 9:40Speaker 1: the Fred Johnson thing, I think we all like it,
- 9:43Speaker 1: But to be honest with you, that's like eight or
- 9:45Speaker 1: nine snaps a game. It's not a be all to
- 9:47Speaker 1: end all. And they were just as successful actually running
- 9:50Speaker 1: out of the shotgun against the Giants as they were
- 9:53Speaker 1: under center. But even when they ran from the shotgun,
- 9:56Speaker 1: Adam outside stretch plays, getting Brett to both and I'm
- 10:00Speaker 1: sure you know, we'll see if Jurgons is back, but
- 10:02Speaker 1: either way, you use Jurgens similarly. Obviously, teams are keying
- 10:06Speaker 1: in on their inside zone. That's what they've done for
- 10:08Speaker 1: years and really good mixed the outside zone or mixed
- 10:11Speaker 1: out of the outside runs, and it doesn't have to
- 10:13Speaker 1: be zoned. They can pull a guard. Oh yeah, it
- 10:15Speaker 1: could be gap, but get that going because you get
- 10:18Speaker 1: Barkley to the edges and you get it. It all
- 10:21Speaker 1: takes sometimes is one or two blocks, and you saw
- 10:23Speaker 1: what happened on that first carry. You can get them
- 10:25Speaker 1: off to the races.
- 10:26Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean, it's like interesting. They they had runs
- 10:29Speaker 2: early outside in the season, early on September. Then they
- 10:34Speaker 2: went away from it. For it wasn't just one or
- 10:36Speaker 2: two weeks to the put. We asked Greg when we're
- 10:38Speaker 2: when we said, hey, could you because they have Greg,
- 10:42Speaker 2: we get Greg's tape notes for our patron level three members,
- 10:45Speaker 2: so Jeff and I read them, and the guys who
- 10:47Speaker 2: work for with Greg, they chart every play. He gets
- 10:51Speaker 2: unique breakdowns that you're not gonna really find anywhere else.
- 10:53Speaker 2: And you just started seeing like this is what they're doing.
- 10:57Speaker 2: They're not running the ball outside at all, right, and
- 11:00Speaker 2: it's just this is not normal, Like it's really bizarre,
- 11:04Speaker 2: Like it's abnormal for almost two months, right, and then
- 11:09Speaker 2: all of a sudden and now maybe I don't people
- 11:11Speaker 2: want to know what why did they start doing? And
- 11:13Speaker 2: it was successful? We'd said for a number of weeks,
- 11:16Speaker 2: it's clear that Jurgens and Dickers are not right physically.
- 11:19Speaker 2: What they clearly, Well, Jergins is out, but Brett Toath
- 11:22Speaker 2: played out of his mind. He played like he wasn't
- 11:24Speaker 2: Brett Toath quite frankly, I mean, did you see, Well,
- 11:27Speaker 2: here's the point Brett Toath before this look like a
- 11:31Speaker 2: guy shouldn't be out there? Am I wrong?
- 11:34Speaker 1: Right? Because to your to the point you're making, we
- 11:37Speaker 1: don't think that they were using It's hard for him
- 11:39Speaker 1: to put like a down block on a big three
- 11:42Speaker 1: hundred and twenty five pounds three technique. But if there's
- 11:45Speaker 1: one attribute that he has that's good because he's played
- 11:47Speaker 1: all three positions on the line, is he's a better
- 11:49Speaker 1: athlete than power player. So if you get him out
- 11:54Speaker 1: on the edges or into the second level again on
- 11:57Speaker 1: outside runs or stretchers and things of that nature, then
- 12:00Speaker 1: you and you saw we went through it on tape
- 12:02Speaker 1: with Greco. So inside the tape he decleted a safety
- 12:06Speaker 1: or a lie I forget what maybe was a linebacker.
- 12:08Speaker 1: Actually no, I think it was a safety against the
- 12:10Speaker 1: Giants because he was able to kick out, get a
- 12:12Speaker 1: full head of steam and blast the guy. And that's
- 12:15Speaker 1: the way you want to be able to use him
- 12:17Speaker 1: when he has to play more so than just trying
- 12:20Speaker 1: to run duo and help double team and just get
- 12:23Speaker 1: up on these big defensive tackles up front. So he
- 12:27Speaker 1: looks like Brett Toth when you when you use him incorrectly,
- 12:30Speaker 1: he looks like a bad player. When you can use
- 12:32Speaker 1: him correctly, he's still in a backup and there'll probably
- 12:36Speaker 1: be times where you just have to live with the
- 12:39Speaker 1: fact that he's not a great NFL player, But when
- 12:42Speaker 1: used correctly, to your point, at to me, looks like
- 12:44Speaker 1: a functional backup who you can win a game or
- 12:47Speaker 1: two with.
- 12:48Speaker 2: Man he looked more in functional. He looked like the
- 12:51Speaker 2: guy on your point that maybe you could start three
- 12:56Speaker 2: or four times and feel good about. But again it's
- 12:58Speaker 2: we have to be careful.
- 12:59Speaker 1: Well that's it. You don't want you can't be running
- 13:01Speaker 1: all outsides all the time.
- 13:03Speaker 2: Right. It worked, and also to add to that, it's
- 13:06Speaker 2: one game. He was phenomenal, great for Bratt and Stout.
- 13:11Speaker 2: Obviously he's developed them and and you know, help he
- 13:15Speaker 2: helped find I think he This is going back in
- 13:18Speaker 2: number of years, but I remember hearing whatever a year
- 13:20Speaker 2: it was in twenty nineteen that Stout out. I don't
- 13:24Speaker 2: know that he found him, but he knew about him
- 13:26Speaker 2: whatever the case, like he had a hand in it.
- 13:27Speaker 2: So it's only one game. I mean before this game,
- 13:31Speaker 2: I'm like, it was kind of like, why is this
- 13:32Speaker 2: guy on the team. I know that players will shipley start.
- 13:34Speaker 2: Everyone sticks up for him, they love him. Smart. You
- 13:37Speaker 2: got to perform, and he did to the point whe're like, wow,
- 13:41Speaker 2: he's left. He leaves you wanting more. You want to
- 13:44Speaker 2: see more. If Jurgons can't play that coming off the buy,
- 13:47Speaker 2: I guess you feel pretty good about it. Now we'll
- 13:49Speaker 2: see what the trade line gives us on Tuesday. But yeah,
- 13:52Speaker 2: moving on here, keep running those the outside game now,
- 13:57Speaker 2: you got to keep doing it. It was it looked
- 13:59Speaker 2: like last year, to be honest.
- 14:00Speaker 1: With you, it did. It absolutely did. And then that
- 14:03Speaker 1: sort of sticking with the run game, I mean we
- 14:05Speaker 1: really saw something from Tank Bigsby, who's been a decent
- 14:09Speaker 1: running back for the Jaguars, and they finally gave him
- 14:12Speaker 1: an opportunity and a day when everything was going right,
- 14:15Speaker 1: I mean, they kept they gave him the ball and
- 14:17Speaker 1: then Saquon had the minor groin injury and he wound
- 14:20Speaker 1: up taking the ball a little bit more and going
- 14:22Speaker 1: over one hundred yards, and you know, if you're going
- 14:25Speaker 1: to get that from Tank Bigsby, if he's even better
- 14:27Speaker 1: of a runner than Kenneth Gainwell and has more explosion,
- 14:31Speaker 1: then you might as well use him as a runner
- 14:34Speaker 1: more than you used Kenneth Gainwell as a runner. And
- 14:37Speaker 1: I'm not saying committee it at all, of course at
- 14:39Speaker 1: Saquon Barclay's show, But if you need a change of
- 14:43Speaker 1: pace or if you want to take some some mileage
- 14:45Speaker 1: off Saquon as the game's go on, but you don't
- 14:47Speaker 1: want to let up, it looks like if TENK Bigsby
- 14:50Speaker 1: can replicate that, then you got a pretty good backup
- 14:52Speaker 1: there that you can rely on more.
- 14:54Speaker 2: Again, they traded for him for two reasons, Bigsby kickoff
- 14:57Speaker 2: returns and running back. And people would say, well, why
- 14:59Speaker 2: would they used earlier? They had to be an opportunity. Okay,
- 15:05Speaker 2: And remember, as we told you at the time of
- 15:06Speaker 2: the trade, AJ Dillon was on a one year deal.
- 15:08Speaker 2: This is not just about this year. You always have
- 15:10Speaker 2: to look at contracts. Dylan almost certainly won't be back
- 15:14Speaker 2: after the season. He's already the fourth back. We'll see
- 15:17Speaker 2: if he's still here in a couple of weeks. You know, honestly,
- 15:19Speaker 2: because they're gonna, as we were talking about on on
- 15:21Speaker 2: the on one of our shows, here, they've got bg
- 15:26Speaker 2: have they have to make a roster spot for him,
- 15:29Speaker 2: roster spot eventually for Nolan Smith, for Jaquoinne Bennett. So
- 15:34Speaker 2: someone's gonna have to go. You can't you can't keep everybody.
- 15:38Speaker 2: So Dylan to me is they just don't need him
- 15:41Speaker 2: right now other than I mean, he can help on
- 15:42Speaker 2: kickoff returns, but right we'll shoot, you know, you gotta
- 15:45Speaker 2: have two guys back there. But the bottom line is
- 15:47Speaker 2: he just doesn't have a role right now.
- 15:49Speaker 1: Right. So here's an amazing stat also about Bigsby Adam
- 15:52Speaker 1: in his second game where he actually got carries for
- 15:55Speaker 1: the Eagles. All right, he did something that Kenneth Game
- 15:59Speaker 1: will never do it in his Eagles career.
- 16:01Speaker 2: Hmm, how to run with more than ten yards?
- 16:03Speaker 1: I'm sure go over one hundred yards.
- 16:06Speaker 2: Oh, over one hundred yards. He almost want to. It's funny.
- 16:08Speaker 2: Game had a great career game with the Steelers a
- 16:10Speaker 2: couple of weeks ago.
- 16:11Speaker 1: Yeah I saw that, Yeah, yeah, but he never he
- 16:13Speaker 1: The most he ever had was ninety nine for the Eagles.
- 16:16Speaker 2: So did he I didn't even know he did.
- 16:18Speaker 1: Oh wow, yeah it was in It was last year. Actually,
- 16:21Speaker 1: remember he had a good game against the Steelers. He
- 16:23Speaker 1: had a couple of big runs. He also had thirty
- 16:25Speaker 1: five yards receiving in that game. But he only had
- 16:28Speaker 1: ninety nine rushing yards. So uh, I would say only
- 16:32Speaker 1: but he had ninety nine rushing yards two touchdowns in
- 16:34Speaker 1: that game. But yeah, Tank, Bigsby's done it already. How
- 16:37Speaker 1: about that second second in his in his first real
- 16:40Speaker 1: game by the way, I mean second time he's actually carried.
- 16:43Speaker 2: He he is the epitome of a changeup. What that
- 16:45Speaker 2: means is you're having a contrasting style to the starter, right,
- 16:49Speaker 2: you don't want it two guys who were two forty
- 16:51Speaker 2: that just run up the middle like you want a style.
- 16:54Speaker 2: It's different from Barkley, who's dynamic. Yes, but Bigsby is
- 16:59Speaker 2: a runner. Like sometimes he won't run it where the
- 17:04Speaker 2: block is. He just you know what, I see something
- 17:06Speaker 2: that you can't really teach, and he breaks it outside.
- 17:07Speaker 2: It's called second level vision. He's got it. He can
- 17:11Speaker 2: make a sharp cut, he jump cut. I mean he
- 17:13Speaker 2: was you know, we talked about this at the time
- 17:15Speaker 2: of the trade. Now they they pushed him against Etn
- 17:19Speaker 2: last year. Was Etn's role with the Jaguars last year
- 17:22Speaker 2: was they cut it down. He didn't play well and
- 17:24Speaker 2: the bigsby up and after a while tanks roll. He
- 17:28Speaker 2: just didn't quite get there. And then they drafted the
- 17:32Speaker 2: kid tooting this year with a new staff, and it
- 17:36Speaker 2: seems like every time there's a trade, it's the new
- 17:38Speaker 2: staff doesn't like the player, or yeah, they drafted someone
- 17:40Speaker 2: to take the spot. So he's he was out of
- 17:42Speaker 2: a job pretty much, he was going to be demoted.
- 17:44Speaker 2: He goes got him and now you see, I know
- 17:47Speaker 2: it looked bad for a couple of months. You're like,
- 17:48Speaker 2: why did you trade for this guy?
- 17:50Speaker 1: Right?
- 17:50Speaker 2: But I think if we're learning, just be patient. You
- 17:53Speaker 2: don't give up two draft picks for a kickoff return. No,
- 17:55Speaker 2: that doesn't happens. They had more in mind. I think
- 17:59Speaker 2: we all learned a less and right.
- 18:01Speaker 1: All right, all right, last thing on the run game.
- 18:04Speaker 1: We have talked about this and almost waiting to see
- 18:07Speaker 1: it more. But obviously that a great game. But Cam Latu,
- 18:10Speaker 1: he's clearly a big physical body. He's doing well on
- 18:13Speaker 1: special teams as well. He can play this dual full
- 18:16Speaker 1: back tight end role. So as you continue to try
- 18:19Speaker 1: to work your run game, it feels like Cam Latu
- 18:21Speaker 1: can get involved and he's got I thought in camp
- 18:24Speaker 1: he had decent hands. If you ever want to just
- 18:26Speaker 1: try to pop a past him to loosen up a defense,
- 18:29Speaker 1: because so that you're not telling everybody you're running every
- 18:32Speaker 1: time he's out there, he could probably do that.
- 18:35Speaker 2: Yeah. I don't know why though, that they only use
- 18:37Speaker 2: him as his offset fullback. Why not use him as
- 18:39Speaker 2: a why tight hand? I don't I don't know why
- 18:41Speaker 2: they're not.
- 18:41Speaker 1: Doing because they just practiced him that way when Van
- 18:44Speaker 1: Sumer went down, and want to use him the way
- 18:46Speaker 1: they practice him.
- 18:47Speaker 2: Well kaal kata when they have him in line.
- 18:49Speaker 1: He just yeah.
- 18:52Speaker 2: I don't know. Maybe they think it's a giveaway if
- 18:55Speaker 2: they put Latu and got her on the field, like
- 18:57Speaker 2: they think that, Okay, well one I'm gonna have to
- 18:59Speaker 2: go for pats propping, So maybe it's a tel. I
- 19:01Speaker 2: don't know. It's kind of weird.
- 19:02Speaker 1: I mean, yeah, I guess that's so that's okay. I
- 19:04Speaker 1: don't I think that with the Eagles, it's okay if
- 19:06Speaker 1: you're telling them you're going to run on first down.
- 19:08Speaker 1: Because they did that last year and they were fine.
- 19:10Speaker 1: You know, like the whole challenge is to stop it,
- 19:13Speaker 1: and last to your point, gives you so much more
- 19:16Speaker 1: of that ability to say, dare them to stop it
- 19:18Speaker 1: than cal Katara.
- 19:19Speaker 2: The only thing but that, okay, the only thing. We'll
- 19:21Speaker 2: move on to defense at a minute. Just add to that.
- 19:24Speaker 2: And then one more thing on Aj Brown. I just
- 19:27Speaker 2: don't want I struggle, like when you get to the
- 19:31Speaker 2: playoffs having Calcultar in line, he plays the F position,
- 19:35Speaker 2: which is more offset, but it does worry me. And
- 19:38Speaker 2: then the other one is I know the offense is
- 19:40Speaker 2: really emerging, Patula's finding his groove, but I still want
- 19:44Speaker 2: to see Aj Brown evolved earlier in the game. The
- 19:47Speaker 2: bang eight is the quick slant. It's the bank, it's
- 19:50Speaker 2: the quick slant. It could be play action or just
- 19:52Speaker 2: a three step perrop from hurts like they did with
- 19:54Speaker 2: with the with the Titans. The quick throws and that's
- 19:57Speaker 2: where he gets the rack stuff because you know, the
- 20:00Speaker 2: dB falls off because AJ's arms are so big like
- 20:02Speaker 2: the guy, you know, he can't get him and Aj
- 20:04Speaker 2: could run after the catch. That's what we saw in Tennessee.
- 20:06Speaker 2: I don't know why they're not doing it here. I'd
- 20:09Speaker 2: like to see that.
- 20:09Speaker 1: It seems like they never have and rarely rarely right
- 20:14Speaker 1: and folding that in, Eagles really got to figure out
- 20:16Speaker 1: a way to be better. This folds into what you're
- 20:19Speaker 1: saying on third down. They've been a really bad third
- 20:21Speaker 1: down offense this year, surprisingly bad for all the weaponry
- 20:25Speaker 1: they have, because they haven't been on schedule very well.
- 20:28Speaker 1: Even against the Giants, they scored a lot of points,
- 20:30Speaker 1: but honestly, they scored a lot of points in bad
- 20:32Speaker 1: down in distance scenarios. We talked about that. I think
- 20:35Speaker 1: the key for them is to stay on schedule, get
- 20:38Speaker 1: into no huddle, and that might mean getting the ball
- 20:40Speaker 1: to aj Brown or Devonte Smith earlier on first down,
- 20:43Speaker 1: second down, use the pass set up the run. Hurts
- 20:46Speaker 1: to me is throwing the ball with more conviction this
- 20:48Speaker 1: year and making the more tighter windows throws than we've
- 20:51Speaker 1: seen him in the past. That's another thing. Greg Cosel
- 20:54Speaker 1: has been very praiseworthy of of Childen Hurts his play
- 20:56Speaker 1: this year. But yeah, so when you have that, you
- 21:00Speaker 1: want to kind of capitalize on it because there are
- 21:03Speaker 1: times where you don't have that. So let them get
- 21:05Speaker 1: that rhythm going and get that no huddle in that
- 21:07Speaker 1: fast offense. Yeah.
- 21:09Speaker 2: That And also though I like the change up of
- 21:11Speaker 2: am under center, I like it. They did it the
- 21:15Speaker 2: Callimore did it last Year's a change up, but that's it.
- 21:18Speaker 2: I think we've kind of we have a good feeling.
- 21:21Speaker 2: Although the hurts thing in the run game surprised me
- 21:24Speaker 2: though a little bit. It hasn't been. It hasn't been
- 21:26Speaker 2: what we thought we were going to get, you know. Yeah,
- 21:28Speaker 2: I don't know what you think about that. Anyway.
- 21:30Speaker 1: Hey, I still like a good night out, but I'm
- 21:33Speaker 1: not always in the mood to drink. And that's why

- 23:01Speaker 2: Yep.
- 23:02Speaker 1: So I don't want to forget to not forget my point.
- 23:05Speaker 1: After our Michael Carter discussion that we did the podcast on,
- 23:08Speaker 1: I thought, you know, one of the most important people
- 23:11Speaker 1: coming out of the bye week significant is Jae Coryan
- 23:14Speaker 1: Bennett's I don't want to say he like make or
- 23:17Speaker 1: breaks the secondary, but if Jacoreyan Bennett, I think you
- 23:21Speaker 1: and I both agree, and we've said this, it's hard
- 23:23Speaker 1: to see the Eagles getting where do they want to
- 23:25Speaker 1: go If they have to start a Dori Jackson or
- 23:28Speaker 1: or Ringo at corner, it's hard to see him winning
- 23:30Speaker 1: the Super Bowl. They got fortunate that number two corner
- 23:33Speaker 1: wasn't picked on by the Giants or the Vikings. I
- 23:36Speaker 1: don't think that they're going to be that fortunate against
- 23:38Speaker 1: the Packers of the Lions and some other teams they
- 23:40Speaker 1: have to play. So they got to figure out that
- 23:42Speaker 1: that corner situation. And to me, you know, they traded
- 23:45Speaker 1: for Bennett and for a reason, right, they thought he
- 23:48Speaker 1: could help fix this position. But he was hurt, so
- 23:51Speaker 1: he missed a lot of growth time. But if he
- 23:53Speaker 1: can go in at him and play at a good
- 23:55Speaker 1: enough level to be the starter there, and then you're
- 23:58Speaker 1: not worried about do I have to move to gene
- 24:00Speaker 1: outside and then does that do you have to put
- 24:02Speaker 1: somebody in the slot. I mean, I just think Bennett
- 24:05Speaker 1: has the opportunity to stabilize the secondary if he can
- 24:08Speaker 1: stay healthy and get on the field and play well.
- 24:11Speaker 2: Yeah, so a couple of things. If they don't make
- 24:12Speaker 2: a trade for corner, a true corner. Not talking Nickel,
- 24:15Speaker 2: We're not talking to anything else. We're talking corner. It's
- 24:19Speaker 2: gonna come down on your point, Bennett, when they activate
- 24:21Speaker 2: him off ir and whether the gene is gonna be
- 24:24Speaker 2: moved outside either permanently, which I don't. I can't see
- 24:27Speaker 2: Vic doing that. But I'm gonna ask you this question.
- 24:31Speaker 2: I asked Mike gil this on Wednesday. Are you comfortable
- 24:34Speaker 2: with Joey Jackson or Ringo as you're starting corners on
- 24:38Speaker 2: your Super Bowl run? No?
- 24:40Speaker 1: I think that people may have gotten comfortable with it
- 24:43Speaker 1: over the last two weeks because the Eagles won their games.
- 24:45Speaker 1: But again, it was very mysterious how neither were picked on.
- 24:49Speaker 1: But also you're talking about an erratic Carson Wentzon and
- 24:52Speaker 1: even more erratic Jackson. Dog. I'm sure guys like Jordan
- 24:56Speaker 1: Love and Jared Goff and the offenses that they have
- 24:59Speaker 1: in the court and the coaches are going to look
- 25:02Speaker 1: it wasn't just it was just a couple of weeks
- 25:03Speaker 1: ago that those guys were being picked on. Right earlier
- 25:07Speaker 1: in the year by by Nicks by who else did
- 25:10Speaker 1: they player? Stafford got Uh. I think it was with
- 25:13Speaker 1: Dori Jackson and at that time a couple of times.
- 25:15Speaker 1: So like, I fully expect this to still be an
- 25:18Speaker 1: issue until it gets resolved.
- 25:20Speaker 2: So no, I don't feel because you have to. That's
- 25:23Speaker 2: what how Hee's got to ask himself on my comfortable
- 25:25Speaker 2: as much as I drafted Ringo, but he they kind
- 25:28Speaker 2: of know who Ringo is at this point. He has
- 25:31Speaker 2: a backup corner who's being pushed because they don't have
- 25:33Speaker 2: anybody else.
- 25:33Speaker 1: Yes, remember they went back to dory they and then
- 25:38Speaker 1: went back to a dory against Minnesota and then he
- 25:40Speaker 1: got a concussion. And of course it's not like Ringo.
- 25:43Speaker 1: Ringo got in there because you know, Vick was like
- 25:45Speaker 1: and then all of a sudden he was out. So
- 25:47Speaker 1: it's been a carousel people.
- 25:49Speaker 2: Look the truth is with Ringo. I mean, this is
- 25:52Speaker 2: the same guy Isaiah Rodgers was out of football for
- 25:54Speaker 2: a year. He beat him out two years ago. Okay,
- 25:56Speaker 2: it wasn't even close. In fact, the companters were after
- 25:59Speaker 2: a week. Yep, and in this summer. For all the
- 26:02Speaker 2: Ringo truth, there's also maybe three left from the three
- 26:05Speaker 2: hundred that started. Now that three people still believe in
- 26:07Speaker 2: Ringo as a starting corner, Like, folks, what is your argument?
- 26:12Speaker 2: Like again, Jackson beat him out. Okay, that was and
- 26:16Speaker 2: that now that was surprising that they called it. They
- 26:19Speaker 2: called it over very quickly. So again you have to think,
- 26:23Speaker 2: put your general master cap on. Are you comfortable or not?
- 26:27Speaker 2: If you're not, you can't just stam pat either try
- 26:30Speaker 2: to get a corner or you stay with your roster.
- 26:33Speaker 2: On your point, Bennett, when it comes off, I r
- 26:35Speaker 2: but it's kind of like a tryout in season, and
- 26:37Speaker 2: I don't like to have those things.
- 26:39Speaker 1: It's tough. I mean, he like his his learning curve
- 26:42Speaker 1: into Fanjo's defense was really stunted by going on ir
- 26:45Speaker 1: it's fault, but it's just it's really tough. But I mean,
- 26:48Speaker 1: hopefully the mental reps work and he gets out there
- 26:51Speaker 1: on the practice field when they resume and he can
- 26:53Speaker 1: show Vic what he's got, and for their sake, you
- 26:56Speaker 1: hope that he's really learned and complain the defense and
- 26:59Speaker 1: can execute. Because remember, by the way, when they came
- 27:01Speaker 1: out of training camp, Killie Ringo was the fourth corner.
- 27:05Speaker 1: You had Mitchell, you had Dorry Jackson, and you had
- 27:09Speaker 1: Jacoreyan Bennett, who was right the number.
- 27:11Speaker 2: One was ahead of him. He was I totally forgot
- 27:14Speaker 2: about that. God.
- 27:14Speaker 1: Yeah, so it's it's dicey. So if not, by the way,
- 27:18Speaker 1: then VIC does have to think about that decision about
- 27:21Speaker 1: well do I need to move Cooper to Jean outside
- 27:25Speaker 1: and then play Michael Carter the second in the slot,
- 27:28Speaker 1: which again, that's there's a lot of questions to be
- 27:31Speaker 1: answered before that, but that is an option if VIC
- 27:34Speaker 1: wants to go there.
- 27:35Speaker 2: One more thing, just understand, this is what if if
- 27:40Speaker 2: Kup plays corner here. This is not a decision for
- 27:42Speaker 2: the future. You're only You're trying to win a Super
- 27:43Speaker 2: Bowl this year. You're not worried about next year, right,
- 27:46Speaker 2: or or hurt feelings or whatever. It's about trying to
- 27:50Speaker 2: win a Super Bowl. You do what's best for your
- 27:51Speaker 2: football team. Of course, it's obvious the Gene is better
- 27:54Speaker 2: than Ringo or Jackson at corner. I mean, well, let's
- 27:57Speaker 2: put it this way, how could it be worse? Number
- 27:59Speaker 2: one too? He was a corner at Iowa. Now I
- 28:01Speaker 2: know you and I talked to a number of teams
- 28:03Speaker 2: that did question whether he could be a quality starting
- 28:07Speaker 2: corner long term. That was part of the reason and
- 28:10Speaker 2: Vic talked about the other part was kind of with
- 28:16Speaker 2: the gene. Is he a corner, is he a hybrid?
- 28:19Speaker 2: What is he? You know that that was another issue
- 28:22Speaker 2: that clubs had with him. They aren't quite sure what
- 28:25Speaker 2: to make of them ball. He's unbelievable nickel. He plays
- 28:29Speaker 2: corner on base down, but in past the situations, boy,
- 28:33Speaker 2: you like to use his use his length unless athleticism
- 28:36Speaker 2: at corner. And this is a long thing here, but
- 28:39Speaker 2: macmcgurams never is not worked out this season unfortunately, and
- 28:43Speaker 2: they don't really as you said, when we'll move this
- 28:45Speaker 2: back to you, it's either the Jeane at corner in
- 28:51Speaker 2: past the situations or he's at nickel, and you have
- 28:55Speaker 2: the other guys you mentioned now Carter will play into
- 28:58Speaker 2: nickel like it at some point once he learns it,
- 29:02Speaker 2: once he knowes Vic's system. This is a different system
- 29:04Speaker 2: that he's played in before you got to learn it.
- 29:07Speaker 2: That could play into word Regene works this season. We're
- 29:11Speaker 2: not talking about next season.
- 29:12Speaker 1: Justice, You do what you got to do. In the moment,
- 29:15Speaker 1: Andy Reid thought his only way to get to the
- 29:17Speaker 1: Super Bowl and win it was moving his three time
- 29:19Speaker 1: Pro Bowl left guard to left tackle. You can debate
- 29:22Speaker 1: it all you want, but he actually made it to
- 29:24Speaker 1: the Super Bowl because he felt it was the best.
- 29:26Speaker 1: He was probably right. I don't know if they would
- 29:28Speaker 1: have made it to the Super Bowl if they had
- 29:30Speaker 1: played Tuney at guard and then some slow like Kingsley
- 29:34Speaker 1: Sue Ama tay I left, they wouldn't have made it there.
- 29:36Speaker 1: So it didn't work right, right, it's not his fault.
- 29:41Speaker 2: But you had to do it, though, but you had
- 29:42Speaker 2: You got to do it. You're trying to win and
- 29:45Speaker 2: that Unfortunately they got Joe Tuney Trady to the Bears, but.
- 29:48Speaker 1: He played well for them. He's doing all right, all right,
- 29:51Speaker 1: so up front, Uh, we've got to see what they
- 29:53Speaker 1: want to do. I mean, you can't just not play
- 29:56Speaker 1: Johid Campbell. I don't think that that's in Vix. Who'll
- 29:59Speaker 1: played book? Right now, Vick has acknowledged it's a good
- 30:03Speaker 1: problem to have. He'll figure it out with him and Dean.
- 30:06Speaker 1: I would imagine you'll probably it's already started. Vic said it.
- 30:10Speaker 1: Campbell is getting work in practice as a nickel edge,
- 30:14Speaker 1: but he hasn't played yet as a nickel edge, but
- 30:16Speaker 1: that might come depending on again, what happens at the
- 30:19Speaker 1: trade deadline, the health of Brandon grahamdall On Smith coming back.
- 30:23Speaker 1: There's a lot of things. They have some options here
- 30:25Speaker 1: at him. It's a good thing. And they have some
- 30:27Speaker 1: good interior rushers who were doing all right too.
- 30:29Speaker 2: Yes, now if they have not made it a trade
- 30:31Speaker 2: for an edge, you could use Ojoem on Carter's wide nines.
- 30:34Speaker 2: They've done this before. Also, this is kind of minor
- 30:38Speaker 2: to close this out. Ty Robinson has flashed a little bit.
- 30:42Speaker 2: I know he's wrong and he needs a lot of work.
- 30:45Speaker 2: But situationally, I hope that they're not worried about using
- 30:51Speaker 2: him in a big moment or you know, just as
- 30:54Speaker 2: a change up, because he's he's got high energy, good past.
- 30:58Speaker 2: He had really good pass rush traits, but he he
- 31:00Speaker 2: had issues with technique coming out in Nebraska that showed
- 31:04Speaker 2: up on tape and to show up on training camp.
- 31:05Speaker 2: And then Greg said Cosel said when he watched him
- 31:07Speaker 2: on tape in the preseason, he said he was ways
- 31:11Speaker 2: out based on what he saw. He said he needed
- 31:12Speaker 2: a lot of work. So but he's getting better. I
- 31:15Speaker 2: just I think he can help them Ty Robinson. They
- 31:18Speaker 2: could always use the help inside.
- 31:19Speaker 1: Yeah, you know, usually you see some rookies get that
- 31:23Speaker 1: growth over the second half of the year, and he
- 31:24Speaker 1: has started to play a little bit. Be nice to
- 31:26Speaker 1: see him flash. I agree, pretty good and we'll see
- 31:29Speaker 1: if Howie Roseman makes a move to add to the
- 31:32Speaker 1: edge group by the trade deadline. It's not bad. It
- 31:35Speaker 1: could use an upgrade. I like what you're saying. You
- 31:37Speaker 1: can use the interior guys a little bit more athletically,
- 31:41Speaker 1: I would say, because they're starting to do it more.
- 31:44Speaker 1: I like him a little bit more using those twists,
- 31:46Speaker 1: those stunts, those line games, because these are really good
- 31:48Speaker 1: athletes and not just fast forward to the quarterback players.
- 31:51Speaker 1: They can move laterally well, and that's always been I
- 31:54Speaker 1: like when other defenses do it. I like when the
- 31:56Speaker 1: Eagles do it. They don't do it that much, but
- 31:58Speaker 1: if you're still trying to rely on a four man
- 32:01Speaker 1: rush or maybe a sim it's always great to try
- 32:04Speaker 1: to run a stunt in there.
- 32:06Speaker 2: Yeah, that's it. I mean, they've got their work cut
- 32:08Speaker 2: out for them. It's all about trying to win a
- 32:10Speaker 2: super Bowl. They absolutely could make another run. The roster
- 32:13Speaker 2: may not be as good as last year, but this
- 32:15Speaker 2: is a down year for overall quality of thirty two teams.
- 32:17Speaker 2: That's the word around the league. It has been really
- 32:19Speaker 2: since the summer. It's kind of played out that way.
- 32:21Speaker 1: Yep.
- 32:21Speaker 2: And despite all this, they're six and two. Second bet
- 32:26Speaker 2: they're the number two seed right now. I know it's early,
- 32:27Speaker 2: but they would be the number two seed right now.
- 32:31Speaker 2: The Packers. That was an impressive win, come from behind win.
- 32:36Speaker 2: They weren't down by a lot against the Steelers. But
- 32:39Speaker 2: the Packers have probably the best roster in the National
- 32:41Speaker 2: footb League, but they don't always play up to it. They
- 32:44Speaker 2: have a chief in the playoffs, so I wouldn't give them.
- 32:46Speaker 2: I wouldn't give them the gold star just yet. And
- 32:48Speaker 2: they play very very soon.
- 32:51Speaker 1: There you go. I can't wait for that game. I
- 32:52Speaker 1: think Eagles Packer is going to be awesome. Monday night football.
- 32:55Speaker 2: It's going to be a great one.
- 32:56Speaker 1: All right. That's gonna do it for our self Scout episode.
- 33:00Speaker 1: Stay tuned. We got a lot more coming. There will
- 33:02Speaker 1: be tons and tons of content on the way on
