- 0:03Speaker 1: Wake up.
- 0:05Speaker 2: Good next
- 0:06Speaker 2: Kicking off your day in the best way. It's Sonia
- 0:10Speaker 2: and Joakim on the shock circuit. Good morning. Welcome to
- 0:13Speaker 2: a beautiful Tuesday. Hope your Monday treated you well. If not,
- 0:17Speaker 2: no worries, let's wash that away and get some good
- 0:19Speaker 2: juju and energy for today, OK? So we're going to
- 0:22Speaker 2: kick it off here. Gracie Abrahams, Lady Gaga, and more.
- 0:26Speaker 2: Stay tuned and good morning. Singapore's number one hit music station.
- 0:31Speaker 2: Uh, I went to get my coffee as usual, and
- 0:35Speaker 2: I realized that I'm running out of coffee beans. Any
- 0:38Speaker 2: recommendations at all? Like, are you a coffee bean person?
- 0:41Speaker 2: Do you use coffee beans from scratch? And what, what's
- 0:44Speaker 2: the best one? Because usually I like the one over
- 0:47Speaker 2: at uh New Bahru. So big shout out to
- 0:50Speaker 2: The people over at PPP, that is one of my
- 0:53Speaker 2: favorite cafes. It's also because I like the flavor profile
- 0:57Speaker 2: of the coffee beans. So, if you're tuning in now
- 1:00Speaker 2: and you have no idea what I'm talking about or
- 1:02Speaker 2: you don't like coffee at all.
- 1:04Speaker 2: Or you're a tea person or maybe you're like Joakim,
- 1:07Speaker 2: kind of allergic to coffee. He's, he's actually one of
- 1:10Speaker 2: the only people I know that are allergic to coffee.
- 1:13Speaker 2: I think the only other friend that I have that
- 1:16Speaker 2: doesn't actually like coffee just doesn't like the taste. So yeah,
- 1:20Speaker 2: by far, he's the only person I know that claims
- 1:23Speaker 2: he's allergic to coffee. Hm, we got to test the
- 1:26Speaker 2: theory next time.
- 1:27Speaker 2: Anyway, um, stick around. More fantastic music coming your way
- 1:30Speaker 2: and I'm gonna catch you up on what you might
- 1:32Speaker 2: have missed yesterday. Also, what to look forward to during
- 1:35Speaker 2: the show later on. I'm very happy to invite, to
- 1:38Speaker 2: be inviting a few special guests to the studio. Station,
- 1:42Speaker 2: I'm not gonna lie, every time I hear that song,
- 1:44Speaker 2: I keep thinking,
- 1:45Speaker 2: It's a combination of like Billie Eilish and Bella Porch together.
- 1:50Speaker 2: Like she sounds a bit more like Billie Eilish now.
- 1:52Speaker 2: Maybe some info. Anyway, later on during the show, I'm
- 1:55Speaker 2: gonna invite a very, very cool bunch of students and
- 1:59Speaker 2: I believe one of their teachers might be coming as well, um,
- 2:02Speaker 2: to come on down and join us during the show. Now,
- 2:04Speaker 2: the question is, sometimes you might wonder, right?
- 2:07Speaker 2: Um, whether or not there's a future beyond academics, you know,
- 2:12Speaker 2: if you're not that great at certain subjects, or maybe
- 2:15Speaker 2: you're struggling with certain subjects, I mean, I know I
- 2:17Speaker 2: struggled with like math, um, a math, especially science, things
- 2:21Speaker 2: like that, right? It can be really challenging.
- 2:24Speaker 2: So, at 9:00 a.m. we're going live with the team
- 2:26Speaker 2: behind a student-led series. It's called Unemployed by Unboxed, and
- 2:31Speaker 2: they're discussing life beyond grades and the importance of um
- 2:34Speaker 2: why we should be exposed to street smarts and uh
- 2:39Speaker 2: real-world skills exposure from a student perspective. So they're actual
- 2:42Speaker 2: students right now, and I'm just very curious where this
- 2:45Speaker 2: is gonna go because they're also gonna do a short
- 2:47Speaker 2: interview with me off, uh, off-air, and they are the
- 2:51Speaker 2: ones fully in control conducting it.
- 2:54Speaker 2: And I could tell that they were quite excited. At
- 2:56Speaker 2: the same time, I'm sure a little bit nervous. It's
- 2:58Speaker 2: their first time on live national radio as well. Then
- 3:00Speaker 2: we're gonna record a short podcast for them. So, I'm
- 3:03Speaker 2: very curious where this is gonna go. I mean, one
- 3:06Speaker 2: of my passions is to always try and be in
- 3:08Speaker 2: touch with the students, right? And
- 3:10Speaker 2: Um, as much as I can, as much as we
- 3:12Speaker 2: have time and it's possible, we'll definitely do it. So, yeah,
- 3:16Speaker 2: hit us up. We'll try our best. We'll definitely try
- 3:19Speaker 2: our best to. And I asked you a question earlier,
- 3:21Speaker 2: when was the last time your flight was delayed or
- 3:24Speaker 2: you missed your flight? And was it within your control? Like,
- 3:28Speaker 2: sometimes it's our fault, right? If we miss a flight
- 3:30Speaker 2: or we're late or, yeah, I mean, the worst thing
- 3:34Speaker 2: possible is to miss your flight.
- 3:35Speaker 2: The things beyond your control, however, would be, you know,
- 3:38Speaker 2: other types of delays and then maybe you had a
- 3:40Speaker 2: connecting flight, but because of the delayed previous flight, you
- 3:44Speaker 2: also missed the connecting flight. So, sometimes beyond your control. However,
- 3:48Speaker 2: for this particular lady from Malaysia, unfortunately, she missed her
- 3:53Speaker 2: flight after her three year old kid doodled on her passports.
- 3:59Speaker 2: I know, you might think and wonder, ah, why didn't
- 4:01Speaker 2: they just
- 4:02Speaker 2: You know, make an exception. However, her passport was deemed
- 4:05Speaker 2: damaged and as you know, you cannot like draw anything
- 4:09Speaker 2: on your passport or put any stickers or design your passport.
- 4:12Speaker 2: I mean, that is a strict no no, right? But
- 4:15Speaker 2: she took to social media to share her experience because
- 4:18Speaker 2: uh it was just, you know, a ridiculous situation. She said,
- 4:21Speaker 2: my heart wants to cry. Um, the funniest part is
- 4:24Speaker 2: her kid was seen smiling as he held up the
- 4:27Speaker 2: damaged passport.
- 4:29Speaker 2: He drew like, I think he drew a dinosaur, and
- 4:31Speaker 2: then he a caption in a subsequent post read, I
- 4:35Speaker 2: hate dinosaurs. She then visited, you know, the immigration department
- 4:39Speaker 2: for help and um they unfortunately deemed it damaged, so
- 4:43Speaker 2: she couldn't, she couldn't use it. She had to obtain
- 4:45Speaker 2: a replacement passport and it was held back. So she
- 4:48Speaker 2: was actually held back for a couple of days, if
- 4:50Speaker 2: I'm not wrong. So didn't board her flights. Um, she
- 4:53Speaker 2: reflected on her entire predicaments and, you know, it's, it's.
- 4:57Speaker 2: It's funny at the same time, it's a face palm
- 4:59Speaker 2: worthy moment, right? She said she was not upset because, uh,
- 5:02Speaker 2: her kid is still young and he has no idea
- 5:04Speaker 2: what's going on, and he was still laughing after the incident.
- 5:07Speaker 2: So she, he has no clue what is happening. Um,
- 5:11Speaker 2: but you know, just so you know, just keep your
- 5:12Speaker 2: passport close to you and make sure that no one
- 5:15Speaker 2: else has access to it because you don't want to
- 5:17Speaker 2: be found in a situation like that, right? Um, for me,
- 5:20Speaker 2: on the other hand, it wasn't quite anything similar to this.
- 5:23Speaker 2: When I was coming back from France on my recent
- 5:25Speaker 2: honeymoon trip, right?
- 5:27Speaker 2: Um, we were just having a lot of blues, you know,
- 5:30Speaker 2: we're like, oh, coming back early, I yeah, so sad. Um, unfortunately,
- 5:35Speaker 2: there were two delays on the flight coming back, one
- 5:38Speaker 2: of which was actually a medical emergency, and I've never
- 5:41Speaker 2: been on a flight before where there was a medical
- 5:44Speaker 2: emergency that had to, um, have the plane divert to
- 5:47Speaker 2: the nearest airport and stop there, but I'm so glad
- 5:50Speaker 2: the guy is fine. I think they managed to get
- 5:52Speaker 2: him to a hospital in time.
- 5:53Speaker 2: So, on the back of things, like one of the
- 5:56Speaker 2: stewards that I got to know a little bit better,
- 5:58Speaker 2: you know, he was talking to us and he told,
- 6:00Speaker 2: he told me that there was a passenger on board
- 6:03Speaker 2: that had a heart issue, and they actually went on
- 6:07Speaker 2: to the PA, like the announcement system, to ask if
- 6:10Speaker 2: there were any qualified doctors or nurses on board, to
- 6:12Speaker 2: which two people, you know, came forward to offer their help.
- 6:16Speaker 2: Um, but they deemed it quite urgent because I think
- 6:19Speaker 2: this passenger was in and out of consciousness. Um, he
- 6:22Speaker 2: had heart issues, so they had to immediately hospitalize him.
- 6:26Speaker 2: It was quite scary, I have to say. Um, they
- 6:28Speaker 2: pulled over to the nearest airport because I think Singapore
- 6:31Speaker 2: was still like 6 hours away or so, so he couldn't,
- 6:34Speaker 2: he couldn't wait. So we pulled over and the delay
- 6:37Speaker 2: was all in all about maybe 2 hours in total.
- 6:41Speaker 2: Yeah, but, you know, in such situations, you just, I
- 6:44Speaker 2: just hope that the guy is fine and I, I
- 6:47Speaker 2: don't know him, he's a total stranger, but I just
- 6:49Speaker 2: hope that he, he managed to get hospitalized in time,
- 6:52Speaker 2: he got the right treatment and he's good now. Could
- 6:54Speaker 2: have happened to any one of us or any one
- 6:57Speaker 2: of our relatives or parents, you know, so it's quite,
- 6:59Speaker 2: quite scary.
- 7:00Speaker 2: Yup, all the best on your trip. I know just
- 7:02Speaker 2: the start of June holidays, I'm pretty sure a lot
- 7:04Speaker 2: of trips are underway or planned very, very soon. Well,
- 7:07Speaker 2: if not, something to make you chuckle or maybe even
- 7:10Speaker 2: face palm this a.m. Haven't done this in a while
- 7:13Speaker 2: since I've been back and since Joakim's been gone, but
- 7:17Speaker 2: it's Bodo crime, Bodo crime, Bodo crime, Bodo crime.
- 7:22Speaker 2: And if you've never heard this segment before, this is
- 7:25Speaker 2: where we actually break down face palm worthy crime moments
- 7:29Speaker 2: where you actually wonder why do even, why do people
- 7:32Speaker 2: even do this in the first place, OK? I'm taking
- 7:35Speaker 2: you to Sembawang right now, where this particular resident says
- 7:40Speaker 2: that she has noticed a man loitering outside her home.
- 7:44Speaker 2: OK, and that, that's always weird. I mean, I've I
- 7:47Speaker 2: experienced my fair share of that before in the compound,
- 7:50Speaker 2: but not, not right outside my home, right? So this
- 7:53Speaker 2: man loitering outside her home looking a little bit suss
- 7:55Speaker 2: and all that, eventually discovered that her Adidas shoes worth
- 8:01Speaker 2: $300 or more actually, were stolen. So, um, her neighbor
- 8:07Speaker 2: was the one that informed her about this mysterious looking
- 8:09Speaker 2: man behaving suspiciously outside the, the corridor.
- 8:12Speaker 2: And I think it was the neighbor's domestic helper that
- 8:15Speaker 2: was the one that reported it to, to the resident,
- 8:18Speaker 2: you know. So the domestic helper actually tried to scare
- 8:20Speaker 2: him away, prompting him to put the shoes down and
- 8:22Speaker 2: flee the scene. So, initially, she believed, hey, maybe nothing
- 8:26Speaker 2: was stolen, right? It was only later that she realized
- 8:29Speaker 2: a pair of sneakers she owned was absolutely missing. Um,
- 8:32Speaker 2: and she lamented saying that she really liked them, only
- 8:35Speaker 2: worn them a few times, so it's pretty quite, it's
- 8:37Speaker 2: quite new.
- 8:38Speaker 2: And um there were other footwear in the shoe racks,
- 8:41Speaker 2: so she concluded that this guy is only targeting more
- 8:46Speaker 2: branded sportswear type of shoes, you know, and uh he,
- 8:50Speaker 2: he was very calculated about it. So he must have
- 8:52Speaker 2: had loitered around there quite a number of times. Apparently,
- 8:56Speaker 2: it's not the first time. She was previously a victim
- 8:59Speaker 2: of shoe theft about 2 years ago and reported the theft.
- 9:02Speaker 2: So I think residents in the same block also reported
- 9:06Speaker 2: missing shoes.
- 9:07Speaker 2: So, hey, you know, it's, it's just the kind of
- 9:10Speaker 2: thing where I, I, I believe guys, if you have
- 9:12Speaker 2: expensive shoes, right, don't put it outside. Really, really. And I,
- 9:16Speaker 2: I've also learned, well, I didn't learn the hard way,
- 9:19Speaker 2: more like my neighbor learned the hard way, and then
- 9:21Speaker 2: I put my more valuable shoes inside. Um, and I
- 9:26Speaker 2: also installed a CCTV. So actually, it's very affordable to
- 9:30Speaker 2: do it. You can get it, honestly, I think my
- 9:32Speaker 2: dad bought it for me for like $30 or something.
- 9:34Speaker 2: Um, on, on, uh, e-commerce platform, and it works really well. So,
- 9:39Speaker 2: the main reason why I put it there initially was
- 9:42Speaker 2: because of deliveries, you know. Sometimes you order stuff and
- 9:45Speaker 2: then it arrives like in the middle of the day
- 9:47Speaker 2: when you're not at home, so at least I have
- 9:49Speaker 2: that CCTV camera to sort of communicate with them, like
- 9:52Speaker 2: I can talk to them via the camera. Either that
- 9:55Speaker 2: or I can also just make sure that they're putting
- 9:56Speaker 2: it in the right place and no one is tampering
- 9:59Speaker 2: with it, right?
- 10:00Speaker 2: On a couple of occasions, did I see some suss
- 10:04Speaker 2: looking people like kind of looking at the package or just,
- 10:07Speaker 2: I don't know, maybe just loitering outside my door. I
- 10:09Speaker 2: don't know. Um, and then they kind of look around
- 10:11Speaker 2: and they saw the camera and they walked away. It's
- 10:14Speaker 2: funny because I can see you like in real time.
- 10:18Speaker 2: It's always quite entertaining, you know, to be honest. I
- 10:21Speaker 2: used to activate like the motion sensor where I would
- 10:24Speaker 2: get an alert every time there's movement outside my house,
- 10:26Speaker 2: but then there was too much going on because when
- 10:28Speaker 2: neighbors come and go, it also triggers the, the action sensor, right? So,
- 10:33Speaker 2: sometimes for fun, I just look back, I just look
- 10:35Speaker 2: back at the playback, you know, and see whether anything
- 10:37Speaker 2: interesting happened over the day while I was not home. Anyway,
- 10:41Speaker 2: something that we've been all looking forward to. Taylor Swift, yes,
- 10:44Speaker 2: she's also a 2026 bride.
- 10:47Speaker 2: Um, got a new track from her and a little
- 10:49Speaker 2: shout out. I wonder whether this was, uh, this would
- 10:51Speaker 2: be true, right? Because you, you want to have faith
- 10:54Speaker 2: in people and I'm not sure if you're tuning in
- 10:57Speaker 2: now whether you are very, um, particular about putting the
- 11:01Speaker 2: right things in the recycling bin because over at my, um,
- 11:03Speaker 2: the place that I stay, right, there's a specific recycling
- 11:06Speaker 2: area and I, I'm quite happy to see that people
- 11:11Speaker 2: only put, you know, boxes, cartons, paper bags, and recyclable
- 11:15Speaker 2: stuff over there.
- 11:16Speaker 2: And uh I think there's a bin for like all
- 11:18Speaker 2: your glass items as well like bottles and all that
- 11:21Speaker 2: or yeah, it might, it might all be, I think
- 11:23Speaker 2: mine doesn't segregate them, it's just all in one area.
- 11:27Speaker 2: So they're all blue colored bins.
- 11:30Speaker 2: So, over in the Tampines area, I'm gonna chat about
- 11:32Speaker 2: this in just a while. I've always been curious to
- 11:35Speaker 2: know whether there's anyone that puts other kinds of rubbish
- 11:39Speaker 2: in the recycling bin. It's like, you want to believe
- 11:41Speaker 2: that it doesn't actually happen, and like, why would that
- 11:44Speaker 2: even happen in the first place, but find out what
- 11:46Speaker 2: was found in some of these bins. And uh this
- 11:50Speaker 2: brings us to an all-important question, OK? We always wonder
- 11:53Speaker 2: whether we're recycling properly.
- 11:55Speaker 2: And I know, I know in the past, there were not,
- 11:59Speaker 2: there were not enough um designated recycling bins in the past, right?
- 12:03Speaker 2: Maybe during our parents' time and all that, but now
- 12:06Speaker 2: we're definitely more aware and I'm very proud to say
- 12:09Speaker 2: that over at the place I, I, I live at,
- 12:11Speaker 2: Um, the recycling bin area is always full. Like people
- 12:14Speaker 2: are always constantly putting it there and putting it in
- 12:16Speaker 2: the right spot. So, it looks like it's right. I mean,
- 12:19Speaker 2: I only see cartons and paper bags and, you know,
- 12:22Speaker 2: glass bottles in that area and all that, so I,
- 12:24Speaker 2: I wanna say that's correct. Um, going over to Tampines
- 12:27Speaker 2: right now and shout out to Tampines MP Charlene Chen.
- 12:30Speaker 2: Um, she decided to go on a mission to find
- 12:32Speaker 2: out whether people were actually recycling properly. And I, I'm
- 12:36Speaker 2: not paid to say this at all, OK, but I've
- 12:38Speaker 2: always been curious to know whether people dump all kinds
- 12:41Speaker 2: of rubbish in those blue bins, you know, B L
- 12:45Speaker 2: 00 B I N. Coincidentally, it is in the color
- 12:49Speaker 2: blue as well, so it's quite a cute name.
- 12:51Speaker 2: Um, so they decided, you know what, we're going to
- 12:53Speaker 2: dig through it to see what kind of things people
- 12:56Speaker 2: are putting inside and whether we are truly ruining recycling, OK?
- 13:01Speaker 2: Because correct me if I'm wrong, I, I'm not entirely
- 13:04Speaker 2: sure whether once like stuff that are not meant to
- 13:07Speaker 2: be recycled are put into the recycling bin, they have
- 13:10Speaker 2: to manually sort it out. They can't just throw the
- 13:12Speaker 2: whole thing in the recycling area because it's essentially ruined, right?
- 13:17Speaker 2: So, I'm digging through the blue bin and they found
- 13:20Speaker 2: several recycling mistakes, things like a half-eaten sandwich. Oh no.
- 13:27Speaker 2: Um, Styrofoam, uh, I think fried rice was found in
- 13:32Speaker 2: there as well that included the box and the plastic bag.
- 13:36Speaker 2: I think, uh, toilet paper, used paper towels were in
- 13:39Speaker 2: there as well, cigarette butts were found in the recycling bin.
- 13:42Speaker 2: Oh my goodness, like, so people are saying that, you
- 13:45Speaker 2: know what, um, if there's food waste in there, there's
- 13:48Speaker 2: going to be pests, and you don't want the pests
- 13:50Speaker 2: to get in there. It's going to be essentially bad, right?
- 13:53Speaker 2: And you're going to ruin the whole recycling process.
- 13:56Speaker 2: So, um, sorting through recyclables, sometimes you may be confused
- 14:00Speaker 2: what can be recycled and what can't be. I remember
- 14:03Speaker 2: I did a video quite a while back, but I
- 14:05Speaker 2: collaborated with 987 on what to test you on what
- 14:09Speaker 2: can be put into the recycling bin and what can't.
- 14:12Speaker 2: This was already quite a while ago, like I think
- 14:13Speaker 2: it was late last year. So if you're curious, just
- 14:16Speaker 2: go dig it up. I think it's somewhere on TikTok
- 14:18Speaker 2: as well, so check it out there.
- 14:20Speaker 2: Um, but if you know what, if you have any
- 14:22Speaker 2: elderly folks at home or people you know are not
- 14:24Speaker 2: exactly recycling properly, please encourage them to put the right things.
- 14:29Speaker 2: At 7, you'll get to hear from Kid LeRoy very,
- 14:31Speaker 2: very soon. Uh, one of the questions I actually asked
- 14:33Speaker 2: him was, how did his view on love change over
- 14:37Speaker 2: the years? Because, you know, for the longest time, he's
- 14:40Speaker 2: been producing music, releasing new global hits, right? And he's
- 14:43Speaker 2: only 22 at this point or 23 at the most.
- 14:47Speaker 2: Um, and I just wonder what was my view on
- 14:50Speaker 2: love at like 20.
- 14:53Speaker 2: I mean, I, I first started going out with someone
- 14:56Speaker 2: at like, I think I was 18 or something, but,
- 14:59Speaker 2: you know, I don't think I had the whole like, yes,
- 15:01Speaker 2: I'm going to marry this person or I'm going to
- 15:03Speaker 2: settle down with this person for life. Whereas, I know
- 15:06Speaker 2: some of my friends had that, um, had that mindset,
- 15:09Speaker 2: you know, they dated someone, and I actually know one
- 15:11Speaker 2: or two people that ended up getting married to their
- 15:15Speaker 2: first boyfriend ever, like that they met in poly.
- 15:19Speaker 2: One or two of the people that I've met in
- 15:21Speaker 2: school actually did that. So, it is possible, but your
- 15:24Speaker 2: view on love might change just like the kid LeRoy,
- 15:27Speaker 2: and he will share some of his thoughts and feelings
- 15:30Speaker 2: on that. You get to hear it very soon and
- 15:32Speaker 2: also see him on stage. So, and I'm about to
- 15:35Speaker 2: open up phone lines because this caused a bit of
- 15:38Speaker 2: a funny conversation between my friends and I.
- 15:41Speaker 2: Now, I, I'm not the most athletic person, OK? And
- 15:44Speaker 2: if I, if Joakim were here, he would be laughing
- 15:46Speaker 2: at me about this particular topic because I haven't told
- 15:48Speaker 2: him just yet actually. He, however, has sent me like
- 15:52Speaker 2: 4 videos yesterday of him hiking and I'm like, Joe, like,
- 15:57Speaker 2: you OK? He's like, yeah, I just miss being on
- 16:00Speaker 2: the show with you. I was like, really, just enjoy
- 16:02Speaker 2: your break.
- 16:03Speaker 2: But yeah, um, he's the more athletic person between the
- 16:06Speaker 2: two of us, as you can tell. But recently in,
- 16:09Speaker 2: I guess, in 2026, I picked up playing paddle. And
- 16:13Speaker 2: I know it's a very Singaporean thing, we call it
- 16:15Speaker 2: paddle and overseas apparently people say paddle, but, you know,
- 16:18Speaker 2: that sounds so pretentious, right? So we just say paddle.
- 16:20Speaker 2: I don't know which one is right, to be honest.
- 16:22Speaker 2: People are telling me like conflicting things. But anyway, regardless
- 16:25Speaker 2: of that, the sport is actually pretty fun. Um, I'm
- 16:29Speaker 2: not the most ambidextrous or coordinated person.
- 16:32Speaker 2: But Avery and I have played together before actually. We, I,
- 16:35Speaker 2: I called him up to join one of the games
- 16:37Speaker 2: and he said I was not bad.
- 16:40Speaker 2: He said I was not bad and he's also quite,
- 16:42Speaker 2: you know, in the beginning stages, right? So we, we
- 16:44Speaker 2: had a lot of fun. But in the, um, I
- 16:48Speaker 2: think in the last week of June, there is something
- 16:51Speaker 2: that is, that interested us, um, a couple of us,
- 16:56Speaker 2: and I'm going to Bali for a paddle camp, OK?
- 16:59Speaker 2: I know this is so unlike me, to be honest.
- 17:02Speaker 2: I'm just trying to be, um, a supportive partner, I guess,
- 17:06Speaker 2: but at the same time, I kind of picked it
- 17:07Speaker 2: up and I, I quite like it, right?
- 17:09Speaker 2: So it's going to be a 3-day thing and I'm
- 17:12Speaker 2: just going to go there and try to brush it up,
- 17:14Speaker 2: you know, brush my skills up and make sure that
- 17:16Speaker 2: I win more games. As of now, I don't think
- 17:20Speaker 2: I'm on a very good winning streak. Um, and I'm
- 17:23Speaker 2: not quite sure. I'm not quite sure whether I'm playing enough.
- 17:26Speaker 2: That's the thing. I don't think I'm getting enough practice in. That's,
- 17:29Speaker 2: that's the only problem.
- 17:30Speaker 2: So anyway, going for that. So when I told my
- 17:32Speaker 2: other girlfriends about it, they were all shocked, you know,
- 17:34Speaker 2: they were like, what? Are you that obsessed with pedal
- 17:37Speaker 2: right now? And I said, you know what, I don't
- 17:39Speaker 2: consider myself obsessed. In fact, to convince me to play, Jeremy,
- 17:44Speaker 2: my husband, had to um buy me a cute outfit first.
- 17:48Speaker 2: That was his strategy. I didn't ask him to do it,
- 17:50Speaker 2: but he really wanted me to try, so.
- 17:53Speaker 2: Listen up, if you're in a couple right now and
- 17:54Speaker 2: you're trying to convince your partner to do something. So
- 17:57Speaker 2: he actually went and got a cute outfit. He asked
- 18:01Speaker 2: some female friends for their opinions and managed to get
- 18:03Speaker 2: a cute, cute tennis-looking outfit, and then he also got
- 18:08Speaker 2: me 3 beginner lessons to, to start off and a racket, OK?
- 18:12Speaker 2: So this was his attempt to try and get me
- 18:14Speaker 2: to do something with him, right? Do an activity, and
- 18:17Speaker 2: he knows that I'm not the most sporty person.
- 18:19Speaker 2: And as a result, I quite like it. And it's
- 18:21Speaker 2: actually quite fun. It's social. Sometimes there are even like parties,
- 18:24Speaker 2: you know, and people pull up drinks and stuff to
- 18:27Speaker 2: to like the peddle game. Um, birthdays have been done there,
- 18:31Speaker 2: so it's actually quite social and fun. I wanted to
- 18:33Speaker 2: open up the phone lines, 669-11987. Now, in my partnership
- 18:39Speaker 2: and in my, in my relationship rather,
- 18:42Speaker 2: He is obviously more obsessed with paddle, and he honestly
- 18:45Speaker 2: went straight head first. He was very, very keen on
- 18:49Speaker 2: learning and then he became really good at it. He's
- 18:51Speaker 2: just sporty in general. So he's good, right? Whereas for,
- 18:55Speaker 2: for me, I don't think I've ever found myself obsessed
- 18:57Speaker 2: with a sport or a hobby before. I wouldn't call
- 19:00Speaker 2: myself obsessed with Pilates, but
- 19:02Speaker 2: When I look at him, I'm like, yeah, he's definitely obsessed.
- 19:05Speaker 2: And I see some of our other friends that got
- 19:07Speaker 2: converted because of him. They're obsessed too. And they're mostly
- 19:11Speaker 2: the men, by the way, that go headfirst into this obsession.
- 19:15Speaker 2: It's quite crazy. Um, give me a call, 669-11987. Have
- 19:19Speaker 2: you ever become super obsessed with a sport or a
- 19:24Speaker 2: hobby or, or something, I don't know, it could be
- 19:26Speaker 2: collecting blind boxes. I mean, that's, that's also something to
- 19:29Speaker 2: obsess over.
- 19:30Speaker 2: Um, or do you know someone around you who is
- 19:32Speaker 2: very similar to the guys around me right now getting
- 19:35Speaker 2: so obsessed with racket sports? Give me a call 669-11987.
- 19:39Speaker 2: I would love to hear from you. In exchange, we've
- 19:41Speaker 2: got a lovely experience, Wild Seed at One Flower Hill.
- 19:45Speaker 2: It is worth $100. Call me right now or you
- 19:48Speaker 2: can even drop me a message that's why you said morning, Sonia.
- 19:52Speaker 2: I can completely relate. My boyfriend is obsessed with pickleball.
- 19:58Speaker 2: I mean, look, I knew this was gonna come, right?
- 20:00Speaker 2: Some of these messages are gonna come. Um, and then
- 20:02Speaker 2: you said, anyway, uh, so he's tried to convince me
- 20:05Speaker 2: to play pickleball for the longest time. I tried, um, I,
- 20:08Speaker 2: I don't mind it, to be honest. I just find
- 20:10Speaker 2: it a bit like an oversized table tennis kind of situation,
- 20:14Speaker 2: but the only thing is that the court we always
- 20:17Speaker 2: go to, we never ever get the indoor one. It's
- 20:20Speaker 2: always the outdoor.
- 20:21Speaker 2: Court, and I think I've turned about 5 shades tanner
- 20:24Speaker 2: since I've been trying to be a supportive girlfriend. Now
- 20:28Speaker 2: he has thoughts of going pro and joining tournaments just
- 20:32Speaker 2: to push himself. I think I would just stay as
- 20:34Speaker 2: a cheerleader on the sidelines. Oh man, thank you so
- 20:37Speaker 2: much for sharing that, Zach. Why, I mean, I can
- 20:38Speaker 2: totally relate. Um, I, I was, I'm, I'm you, actually.
- 20:42Speaker 2: I'm you. I joined, I started playing paddle because of
- 20:46Speaker 2: my partner, right? And I can't say that I'm pro.
- 20:49Speaker 2: I'm far from it, to be honest. Sometimes I don't
- 20:52Speaker 2: know what I'm doing, you know, I like get on
- 20:54Speaker 2: the court, right? I just hope for the best. I
- 20:57Speaker 2: think that's my strategy. I just like, and when something
- 21:00Speaker 2: good happens, people think that it's intentional, but it's not. It's,
- 21:04Speaker 2: I think it's sheer luck or I was just there
- 21:06Speaker 2: at the right time or my, my racket happened to
- 21:09Speaker 2: hit the ball at the right time at the right angle,
- 21:11Speaker 2: but everyone thinks that it's a strategy, and I'm like, hm, OK,
- 21:15Speaker 2: maybe let me just let them think that way.
- 21:18Speaker 2: OK, more of your messages pouring through right now. Um,
- 21:22Speaker 2: quite funny ones coming up soon that's not related to
- 21:24Speaker 2: sports or hobbies, and thank you so much for joining me.
- 21:27Speaker 2: I'm getting some hilarious answers right now. Um, speaking of
- 21:33Speaker 2: obsession with paddle, and I think my friends think that
- 21:36Speaker 2: I'm obsessed with it. I'm really not. I kind of
- 21:38Speaker 2: enjoy it right now since I'm getting a bit better
- 21:40Speaker 2: at it.
- 21:41Speaker 2: But I would say a lot of the men and
- 21:43Speaker 2: the guys around me are obsessed. In fact, I've seen
- 21:46Speaker 2: some of my friends' boyfriends and husbands get converted, also
- 21:49Speaker 2: because of Jeremy, my own partner, right? And he's the
- 21:51Speaker 2: one that convinced them that, hey, come and try, come
- 21:53Speaker 2: and try. And it ended up that they got so
- 21:56Speaker 2: obsessed with it. Some of them are even going for training, um,
- 22:00Speaker 2: getting a coach, upgrading their racket. It's quite, quite insane.
- 22:04Speaker 2: So I wanted to find out what are you obsessed
- 22:06Speaker 2: with or have you ever found yourself in that situation
- 22:09Speaker 2: where you got very, very obsessed with a sport or
- 22:11Speaker 2: a hobby, or do you know someone around you like that? Um,
- 22:14Speaker 2: going to our messages now, Jessie says, morning, Sonia. There
- 22:18Speaker 2: was a period of time where my husband and I
- 22:20Speaker 2: were very obsessed with Bayblade. Whoa, that's vintage, man. I mean, yes,
- 22:25Speaker 2: as kids, we know what it is, but I think
- 22:27Speaker 2: there's competitive, uh, competitive ones as adults, right?
- 22:31Speaker 2: Now you said both of us played the first version
- 22:33Speaker 2: when we were kids, and to see the new Bay
- 22:36Speaker 2: Blade kind of rekindled our childhood experience. So, we ended
- 22:39Speaker 2: up buying many, many Bay blades, like more than 100,
- 22:43Speaker 2: so that, uh, now that we have jobs and we
- 22:45Speaker 2: have money so we can spend on buying toys, there
- 22:48Speaker 2: is a Bay Blade community.
- 22:50Speaker 2: They host Bay Blade tournaments weekly or even daily. Sometimes
- 22:54Speaker 2: we play once or twice a week. We were good
- 22:56Speaker 2: at it. Not the best, but good. I guess that
- 22:59Speaker 2: was where the passion for Bay Blade came from, being
- 23:02Speaker 2: rewarded for something or being good at it. Oh, that's nice.
- 23:06Speaker 2: I mean, how, that's a very, very cool and unexpected hobby.
- 23:10Speaker 2: I didn't know that that community still exists. Thank you
- 23:13Speaker 2: for educating me this morning. I appreciate it.
- 23:16Speaker 2: We also have Angeline on the line. OK, Angeline, what
- 23:18Speaker 2: was it that you were um or are obsessed with?
- 23:21Speaker 2: OK, I was so obsessed with netball at one point
- 23:24Speaker 2: before COVID because it was such a fun sport and
- 23:27Speaker 2: reconnecting with my friends from school. Were you a netball
- 23:31Speaker 2: player in school?
- 23:33Speaker 2: Yes, I was a netball player when I was in
- 23:35Speaker 2: my secondary school, yes. So then, you know, after the
- 23:38Speaker 2: secondary school time, I, I know a lot of us,
- 23:40Speaker 2: like we make a lot of friends, you know, in
- 23:41Speaker 2: the CCA and stuff, and then you'd like drift off
- 23:43Speaker 2: or you stop playing the sport. What made you pick
- 23:45Speaker 2: it up again as an adult? Uh, so basically, right,
- 23:48Speaker 2: I had a friend who asked me for the game
- 23:50Speaker 2: and then went to Kallang Netball Center and I picked
- 23:53Speaker 2: it up again. And I've been loving the sport since,
- 23:56Speaker 2: but COVID hit and then we stopped for a while.
- 23:59Speaker 2: Did you pick it up again after COVID then?
- 24:01Speaker 2: Yes, yes, of course, of course, I'm still playing, uh,
- 24:04Speaker 2: with Tripro currently, yeah, and it's National League. shout out
- 24:07Speaker 2: to them. Wow, I hope they win the game. That's crazy. Well,
- 24:12Speaker 2: nicely done. What an inspiration. You know, last time when
- 24:14Speaker 2: I was in school, right, whenever there's netball or captain's
- 24:17Speaker 2: ball during PE, nobody wants to pick me on their team, OK,
- 24:20Speaker 2: because I'm.
- 24:21Speaker 2: Super bad. Talking about obsessions that you have. It could
- 24:24Speaker 2: be you, could be a loved one, could be just,
- 24:27Speaker 2: you know, your partner, someone around you. Who is the
- 24:29Speaker 2: person that's obsessed with either like a sport or a
- 24:31Speaker 2: hobby or or something along those lines right now? I'm
- 24:34Speaker 2: getting some great, um, some great messages coming through before
- 24:37Speaker 2: we get back to the phone lines. You heard from
- 24:39Speaker 2: uh Angeline earlier on. OK, so saying hi over here
- 24:43Speaker 2: to Stella. You say good morning and congratulations to you
- 24:46Speaker 2: on your marriage. Uh, thank you.
- 24:48Speaker 2: My husband picked up squash a while ago and he's
- 24:50Speaker 2: been obsessed with it ever since. He still plays in
- 24:53Speaker 2: local competitions and even goes overseas for friendly competitions and
- 24:57Speaker 2: is actively playing in tournaments. Now, during the days where
- 25:01Speaker 2: he was trying to chase me, um, he tried to
- 25:03Speaker 2: get me interested in squash too. Unfortunately, I have absolutely
- 25:07Speaker 2: no ball sense.
- 25:10Speaker 2: After a few attempts, I decided the squash court was
- 25:13Speaker 2: not for me. I did like jumping on the trampoline instead. Oh,
- 25:16Speaker 2: that is cute. OK. Uh, one more message coming through
- 25:20Speaker 2: here from Jess. You said, I have a colleague who
- 25:24Speaker 2: is absolutely obsessed with racket sports.
- 25:28Speaker 2: Especially pickleball. When pickleball first became the latest craze, he
- 25:31Speaker 2: jumped on the bandwagon with full force. Being from the
- 25:34Speaker 2: people and culture team, oh no, he didn't just play
- 25:37Speaker 2: the sport, he practically became its biggest ambassador in the office.
- 25:41Speaker 2: He started organizing bi-weekly pickleball sessions and would get really excited.
- 25:45Speaker 2: Every time we successfully booked a court. Before long, he
- 25:48Speaker 2: had played in almost every pickleball court in Singapore and
- 25:51Speaker 2: would even give detailed reviews on which ones were the best.
- 25:55Speaker 2: If you need court recommendations, equipment, advice, or someone to
- 25:58Speaker 2: play pickleball or talk about it with, he was your
- 26:01Speaker 2: go to person. His enthusiasm was so infectious, many of
- 26:05Speaker 2: us ended up actually trying the sport ourselves. Some people
- 26:09Speaker 2: follow trends, but he practically turned pickleball into a lifestyle.
- 26:14Speaker 2: Dude, that is so cute, honestly, I'm, I, I really
- 26:16Speaker 2: smiled while reading that message. I mean, to some people,
- 26:19Speaker 2: it may be too much, but to others, you know,
- 26:22Speaker 2: it's quite inspiring. So I love that story. Now we're
- 26:25Speaker 2: talking about obsessions because I am going for a paddle camp.
- 26:29Speaker 2: In Bali at the end of the month. Although I
- 26:31Speaker 2: will say I'm not obsessed with it, it's because the
- 26:33Speaker 2: people around me, even my friends are starting to get
- 26:35Speaker 2: so obsessed with racket sports, right? It's infectious, you know, and, uh,
- 26:40Speaker 2: I just have more fun now that I know how
- 26:43Speaker 2: to play a bit better if you get what I mean. So,
- 26:45Speaker 2: one more message and I'm gonna head back to the
- 26:47Speaker 2: phone lines before we wrap it up here. AT says, morning, Sonia.
- 26:50Speaker 2: For me, it was actually rock climbing. Picked it up
- 26:52Speaker 2: during COVID.
- 26:53Speaker 2: And even after COVID ended, I had a coach that
- 26:57Speaker 2: could pick up techniques faster. I can learn to climb
- 26:59Speaker 2: safer as well. A few years on, life has changed
- 27:02Speaker 2: a little. I became a parent to 4 cats. Oh, cute. Lately,
- 27:07Speaker 2: I was encouraged by a group of friends to participate
- 27:09Speaker 2: in cat shows. With that, there's also things to learn
- 27:12Speaker 2: and routines to keep. 2 of my cats recently won
- 27:15Speaker 2: some awards and we're participating in another one later this month.
- 27:18Speaker 2: I guess that's the new obsession.
- 27:20Speaker 2: And here are some photos for you. This is my
- 27:22Speaker 2: youngest kitten. That is adorable. Is that a Maine Coon? Girl,
- 27:26Speaker 2: you have so much dedication, man. That, that's actually crazy,
- 27:29Speaker 2: but I love that. Thank you for sharing your passion
- 27:31Speaker 2: with me. We've also got Min on the line right now. OK, Min,
- 27:35Speaker 2: tell me, go ahead. What's your obsession? So I like
- 27:38Speaker 2: to clean windows.
- 27:41Speaker 2: Wait, so far all our responses have got to do
- 27:44Speaker 2: with hobbies or sports, but yours has got to do
- 27:47Speaker 2: with cleanliness. Can I please find out how you discovered
- 27:50Speaker 2: your obsession with cleaning windows and, and why, I mean? Yeah,
- 27:53Speaker 2: so every time I see there's water stains, so I clean.
- 27:57Speaker 2: Then sometimes after I clean, right, then the next day again,
- 27:59Speaker 2: then I have to clean again. Of course, it's only natural.
- 28:03Speaker 2: I mean, I look at my car windows, I want
- 28:04Speaker 2: to give up, you know. Do you provide services for
- 28:07Speaker 2: that or is it only for your family and loved ones?
- 28:11Speaker 2: No, it's only for my own house. So sometimes when
- 28:14Speaker 2: I post on my Instagram story, then my friends are like,
- 28:16Speaker 2: can you come to my house and help me clean also.
- 28:20Speaker 2: Have you ever, then another friend was like, uh, I
- 28:24Speaker 2: think you should open a cleaning company. OK. So did
- 28:29Speaker 2: you ever consider that honestly? No, no, I don't don't
- 28:33Speaker 2: really think I have the capacity to do that.
- 28:37Speaker 2: Yeah, you know, sometimes when you turn your hobby into
- 28:39Speaker 2: a business, it may have the opposite effect. It may
- 28:42Speaker 2: make you lose your passion for cleaning windows.
- 28:46Speaker 2: Thank you so much for sharing, man. That's hilarious. You
- 28:49Speaker 2: have a great day, OK, and happy, happy cleaning. Now, oh,
- 28:53Speaker 2: so many great stories coming through about obsessions that we're
- 28:57Speaker 2: talking about sports or hobbies or, you know, a person
- 29:00Speaker 2: that gets locked in very easily when they get interested
- 29:03Speaker 2: in something, right? I mean, I'm sure we know that
- 29:05Speaker 2: kind of person around us.
- 29:07Speaker 2: Um, so many great stories coming through. To catch up
- 29:09Speaker 2: with it, please log on to me Listen and Spotify
- 29:11Speaker 2: after the show is over. But today's prize goes to Jess. Congratulations, Jess.
- 29:18Speaker 2: You told me about your colleague, very detailed story, who's
- 29:21Speaker 2: obsessed with Pickleball and how he actually became a bit
- 29:24Speaker 2: of an inspiration in The Office. I really love that.
- 29:28Speaker 2: In exchange, you're walking away with a dining experience to
- 29:31Speaker 2: Wild Sea Cafe at One Flower Hill is worth $100.
- 29:35Speaker 2: They have their Matcha Social Day party on the 25th
- 29:37Speaker 2: of July. It's gonna be a huge, really cute garden
- 29:40Speaker 2: gathering with matcha drinks, music, really great vibes in Sentosa.
- 29:45Speaker 2: Please follow them. That's 1, the number 1, flowerhill.sg on Instagram.
- 29:49Speaker 2: And it's time for some history when it comes to
- 29:52Speaker 2: food news. I never knew this.
- 29:55Speaker 2: But WaK has become such a popular thing, right? You know, the,
- 29:58Speaker 2: the brand Walk Hay like W O K and then
- 30:01Speaker 2: H E Y. I mean, I love the name. I
- 30:03Speaker 2: love puns and I love the name since it came out. Apparently,
- 30:07Speaker 2: they've been functioning since 2017. I never realized that. So, um,
- 30:13Speaker 2: happy almost 10 year anniversary, I guess, but they need
- 30:17Speaker 2: little introduction because you see them at almost every major
- 30:19Speaker 2: mall right now. What I did not realize.
- 30:23Speaker 2: is that this particular concept was birthed by former Republic
- 30:28Speaker 2: of Singapore Air Force engineers turned F&B entrepreneurs and their,
- 30:33Speaker 2: their friends, and they met, of course, over in the
- 30:37Speaker 2: Republic of Singapore Air Force, and they decided, you know what,
- 30:40Speaker 2: let's take a plunge going to F&B and now they've
- 30:43Speaker 2: opened a new one called Niku Iku. Their latest outlets, um, Tampines,
- 30:47Speaker 2: our Tampines hub and Lot One, they just opened in May.
- 30:50Speaker 2: They have introduced seating areas for the first time. So
- 30:54Speaker 2: War K was more of a grab and go kind
- 30:55Speaker 2: of situation, and I think it really, really worked for them.
- 30:58Speaker 2: So I, I honestly love the options they have at Wake.
- 31:02Speaker 2: Now I'm keen to try Niku Iku. From fighter jets
- 31:05Speaker 2: to fried rice is quite a big difference in life,
- 31:08Speaker 2: but they are thriving right now, and I, I just wonder,
- 31:11Speaker 2: how did they learn the insides and inside and out
- 31:16Speaker 2: of F&B? It's not easy, you know, running an F&B business, right? So,
- 31:20Speaker 2: I really do have a lot of respect for them, um.
- 31:22Speaker 2: I think when it comes to business building, reading such
- 31:25Speaker 2: stories really keeps you inspired. So if you want to
- 31:28Speaker 2: read the full story of how they came to be,
- 31:31Speaker 2: because I'm today years old when I found out that
- 31:33Speaker 2: uh this, these were Wa Hay's founders, such an unexpected
- 31:36Speaker 2: twist in a good way, log on to Eight Days
- 31:39Speaker 2: Eats to check it out.
