- 0:25together. All right, welcome back to Czech
- 0:31Event Nation, where story save lives.
- 0:33I'm your host Turbo broadcasting live from Helena, Mt at the
- 0:36Czech Event Nation studio on military broadcast radio.
- 0:40Today we tackle trauma, transformation and truth with
- 0:43two incredible women on the front lines of mental health and
- 0:45veteran support. Joining me is Doctor Pam Arnell,
- 0:48the Executive Director of 22 Zero, an organization using a
- 0:52groundbreaking, groundbreaking approach to eliminate PTSD,
- 0:56anxiety and depression in veterans and 1st responders.
- 0:59And whether is Army veteran and full throttle mental health
- 1:02advocate TMA, whose healing journey might just be the most
- 1:05powerful story. You're here all year.
- 1:07So Doctor Arnell, let's start with you.
- 1:10What is 22 Zero and how did this mission begin for you?
- 1:15So 22, zero. We know that supposedly on
- 1:19average there are 22 veterans that they that die a day by
- 1:22suicide. We do know that those numbers
- 1:24are a lot higher, but seven years ago the average was 22.
- 1:29And there were there was an individual who spoke it into
- 1:35existence. He was a veteran and then he had
- 1:37asked another veteran to actually help him get 22 zero
- 1:43going as well. So I got connected through 22
- 1:49zero through my Fire Chief. Well, he, he's retired now, my
- 1:52then Fire Chief. So I have the clinical
- 1:55background, but within the fire departments, you know, I'm the
- 2:00one who's going to be called. And he wanted me to take the
- 2:02training. And it was funny because I, I
- 2:05kept saying no, like, dude, I don't have time.
- 2:08Come on chief, I love you. Please.
- 2:09Like I have enough going on. And so I ended up taking the
- 2:15training because I knew he wasn't going to shut up
- 2:17otherwise. And I knew that there was an
- 2:20immediate shift. So I was also a reserve deputy
- 2:23for five years. And I actually had two calls
- 2:26with the Sheriff's Department, but I had three calls with the
- 2:29fire department that were really problematic to the point that I
- 2:32went and got put on Andy and just asleep some.
- 2:36And so part of the training is you actually have to go through
- 2:39the process and say something that's a little caveat funny
- 2:43about it that the training was online.
- 2:46And so my husband at the time, he veteran, 26 year veteran and
- 2:51he or he served 26 years and, and a veteran, but he was in the
- 2:55other room and when I came out after the class, he he saw my my
- 3:00cup, a little mug. And he said, Oh my God, you've
- 3:03been in class. Yeah, you've been drinking?
- 3:07Because I was really relaxed and I knew there was a shift.
- 3:10And then unless you've experienced going through our
- 3:12process, you're not going to get what I'm saying.
- 3:14But he literally thought that I had been drinking Jack and Coke
- 3:17during class because he said you look like you do when you've had
- 3:20three glasses of Jack and Coke. What?
- 3:24No, I swear I didn't drink Jack and Coke during class.
- 3:28And so after that, you know, it, it became very clear that there
- 3:35was a bigger mission that needed to be done.
- 3:40I started doing a lot of stuff behind the scenes.
- 3:43I'm the one who started the research piece for 22.
- 3:45Zero had reached out to different universities, and
- 3:50Arizona State University reached back out to me.
- 3:53We had a meeting and you know, I was able to coordinate with them
- 3:59what we do and within that meeting and they agreed to do a
- 4:03study for us. And it's funny because that was
- 4:06in 2022. So after, you know, talking with
- 4:12them, meeting with them, we allowed a couple of their
- 4:15research team assistants to go through the training just so
- 4:20they can get the full spectrum of what goes on with the
- 4:24process. And the first study was
- 4:27published in August last year. And so since then, we've got two
- 4:31other studies that Arizona State University has done, and those
- 4:34are both in peer review right now.
- 4:36Awesome. Awesome.
- 4:40So can can you talk about how the TRP and ERP how that how
- 4:46that actually works? So the the trauma resiliency
- 4:50protocol and the emotions management process is based off
- 4:54of the neurological linguistic programming.
- 4:57Ultimately, we do not see trauma as a disorder.
- 5:00It's an injury. It's an injury that will heal.
- 5:03You know, just, and, and I give the example, if you break your
- 5:06arm or leg, you go get it treated, you're going to heal.
- 5:08Well, trauma's the same way and it's more neurologically based.
- 5:14But what happens is, you know, 22 zero is a peer program.
- 5:19So our armed forces, our first responders that are trained
- 5:25specifically in our processes are the peers that work with our
- 5:29mission clients. And then what happens is, you
- 5:33know, we're going to get you in a, again, you're not talking
- 5:36about it, but you're going to, it's more of a, a guided safe
- 5:41imagery, imagery before, imagery after, without you talking about
- 5:45the content. I can make you trigger without
- 5:48you telling me that content, but that protects you and that
- 5:51protects my coaches. And I'm very protective of them
- 5:54so that they're not getting something called vicarious
- 5:56trauma. And vicarious trauma means it
- 5:59didn't happen to them directly, but indirectly by hearing
- 6:03content, which is why there's such a high burnout rate with
- 6:07the mental health professions because they're getting
- 6:10traumatized from hearing all that content.
- 6:13And you don't have to talk about the content.
- 6:14We won't let you. So really getting in that
- 6:17imagery and in a safe place, you know, looking at it almost kind
- 6:22of like a third person in a safe place before and after the
- 6:27events. That's a good way of explaining
- 6:29because I went through the program and I had no idea what
- 6:34to expect. T is the whole reason I went
- 6:36through it. And going through the process,
- 6:40I'm like, we haven't said a single word about the stuff I've
- 6:42been through. We're here, we're going through
- 6:47kind of like get guided meditations almost in a way.
- 6:51I don't want to call it a meditation, but that's kind of
- 6:53the kind of the same process for people to kind of catch on to
- 6:59the first hand. I can tell you for sure it is
- 7:01amazing. And like with Tia, you know you
- 7:06spent nearly two decades misdiagnosed.
- 7:08And what was life like before 22?
- 7:10Zero. Hell, that's exactly how I can
- 7:15describe it. I was functioning through hell
- 7:19in my mind. I had nothing but negative
- 7:22thoughts and darkness just swirling around in my head while
- 7:27I was awake and while I was sleeping.
- 7:29I had trauma from the time I was a child all the way up until
- 7:34pretty much the 1st 40 years of my life was just, it felt like
- 7:38just trauma after trauma after trauma.
- 7:40And so I spent the 1st 40 years of my life having nightmares
- 7:45every night. I barely slept.
- 7:48I think it on a good night, I would get 2 to 4 hours of sleep.
- 7:52I was extremely hyper vigilant. I was always watching my back.
- 7:57I was very jumpy. I was easily triggered to the
- 8:01point where I would like if my kids did something, you know,
- 8:04like knock something over or they did something they
- 8:07shouldn't, I would literally just like lose my, you know,
- 8:11just lose my temper and start screaming.
- 8:15I mean, there was times I was throwing stuff.
- 8:18I felt like I had, I had a monster living in me that I
- 8:21couldn't control. And it was literally instant.
- 8:28Like she was saying like instantly after the session, I
- 8:32felt a shift. And I guess because I had spent
- 8:36so much time in fight or flight mode, I, I went to sleep and
- 8:43kind of went into almost like a hibernation for, for three days.
- 8:49I lost, I think I lost 15 lbs. I barely drank anything.
- 8:54I just, I, if I woke up, I would literally look around and just
- 8:58go right back to sleep. And when I came out of it, I
- 9:03want to say it took me couple months to, for my body to self
- 9:08regulate because I was running on fight or flight mode for so
- 9:11long that my body didn't even know how to function.
- 9:14And I know Pam, I called Pam and I told her, I said, you broke
- 9:17me. I said, what did you do?
- 9:19Like I don't have any energy. I don't have any motivation.
- 9:23Like you were supposed to make me better, not worse, you know?
- 9:27And she was like, oh, honey, it's OK.
- 9:30You know, your, your, your, your body and your mind is going to
- 9:33adjust. Your mind takes time to now like
- 9:37you get to heal, you know, 'cause like you can go through
- 9:40therapy and do all the things, but without, without flipping, I
- 9:45tell people, flipping the switch of the fight or flight mode,
- 9:49like without turning that off, your brain isn't actually
- 9:52healing. It's just pushing through.
- 9:56And so for a few months, I went through a healing process and it
- 10:03was, it was a huge, it was a huge, it was a huge relief to no
- 10:11longer be hyper vigilant and to be able to start coming into a
- 10:17life of not being, you know, living in PTSD.
- 10:22And, you know, I, I stopped having nightmares immediately.
- 10:26I think I've had five nightmares in the last 2 1/2 years.
- 10:30So it has completely changed my life in every single aspect from
- 10:34my sleep to my, my, my self-confidence, to my
- 10:40motivation to help others, you know, in every single way.
- 10:44And now everybody you talk to, you bribe them like me to speak
- 10:47with Pam. I am.
- 10:51I'm so confident in this process that I would be willing to bet
- 10:56any amount of money to have somebody go do it.
- 10:59I mean, I literally beg people on the regular to just please
- 11:03try it because I know that it will change their life and it
- 11:07it'll make it better. And I know that they're going to
- 11:08be less likely to take their own life.
- 11:11They're going to be less likely to be living in depression.
- 11:14And I've, that's what I want, especially for all of my veteran
- 11:18brothers and sisters. Like nobody deserves to live
- 11:21like that. You know, you serve your
- 11:22country. You should be living a good
- 11:24life. You shouldn't be suffering.
- 11:27Oh, I absolutely agree. And I want to say this next part
- 11:30for the for after the break, but how did you how did you guys
- 11:34meet? Did you know each other prior or
- 11:37did you meet meet at an event or?
- 11:38No. So my my husband's really good
- 11:42friend, they actually did the session with their entire
- 11:46company because their company, they have a motorcycle parts
- 11:50company. It's a very fast-paced, very
- 11:53stressful environment. And they did it with their
- 11:57entire company and noticed a big difference.
- 12:00And, and I'm very, I've always been very open about my battles
- 12:04with mental health. And so they told my husband,
- 12:07hey, this, this organization does this session for veterans
- 12:12for free. You should have Tia reach out to
- 12:14them. And it just so happened that I
- 12:17had tried to reach out to the VA because I was extremely
- 12:20suicidal. I was at at the end of my rope
- 12:23and the VA, the VA really didn't do anything for me.
- 12:26And so it was absolutely meant to be perfect timing because I,
- 12:31I mean, I was literally saying my goodbyes to my husband
- 12:35because I didn't think that I was going to make it much
- 12:37longer. Right.
- 12:40And that's kind of part of the problems you have with the VA
- 12:42was, was the misdiagnosis and then all that stuff you told me
- 12:45about last time and then all the struggle through that and then
- 12:50meeting Pam and going through the process and how it's really,
- 12:53really changed your life. And since we've met, I've stayed
- 12:56in touch with you because I just think it's an amazing story.
- 12:59And when we get back from the break, I want to talk with Pam a
- 13:02little bit. How about the science and the
- 13:05the method of 22 Zero and how it differs from from other things
- 13:08out there. But yeah, we'll, we'll come back
- 13:11from the break here in a second. We'll we'll chat about that.
- 13:14Thank you. Love.
- 16:35You too, girls. The station where our veterans
- 16:41voices are heard MBR talk. Hey, thanks.
- 16:47For tuning in, welcome are those of the speakers and do not
- 16:50necessarily reflect the views or positions of any entities they
- 16:55represent. Find.
- 16:56This on the web at NB radio dot US.
- 17:00All right. Welcome back to Czech Event
- 17:02Nation. Doctor Arnell, can you kind of
- 17:04walk us through the science and how does 22 zeros method
- 17:07actually work and why is it different from everything else
- 17:10out there? So as I mentioned earlier, the
- 17:15process that we use the trauma resiliency protocol and the
- 17:19emotions management process, which is for the negative
- 17:22emotions related to those traumas such as fear, anger,
- 17:27guilt, terror, helplessness. It's it's based off of the
- 17:31neurological linguistic process. OK.
- 17:34So it's based off of MLP. And then what happens is when
- 17:42someone, when someone is in that fight or flight stuck in that
- 17:51mode of they're either, you know, fighting, flighting or
- 17:55even freezing, that's stuck in the, in the villa.
- 17:58Once you go through the process, it's, it's basically getting the
- 18:03neural pathways to change is getting the brain to rewire so
- 18:08that you get that REM sleep. And then that event or events
- 18:12gets moved over to the hypothalamus where it's no
- 18:15longer in having you in that fight or flight mode.
- 18:18So it makes it makes the content basically neutral.
- 18:22What we do is we do pre assessments and post
- 18:25assessments. And so the pre assessment would
- 18:27be a trauma screen, depression screen and an anxiety screen.
- 18:31And even during that piece of it, you're still not allowed to
- 18:34talk about the content. We don't need to know about that
- 18:38after you've had however many sessions, you know, I tell
- 18:41everybody the average is 2 to 4. Some may need 2, some may need
- 18:443, some may need 4, some that just need one.
- 18:47But after you get done going through the process, then we do
- 18:51that same screening and you're able to see where your scores
- 18:54were before and then where your scores were after going through
- 18:57the process. So again, more along that
- 19:00neurological piece and looking at the trauma being more from,
- 19:07you know, neurological compared to that disorder face, right?
- 19:13OK, well, so, so who qualifies? And for those that do qualify,
- 19:19how can they reach out to get to get involved in the process and
- 19:22go through the program? So our mission clients are going
- 19:26to be the armed forces, any branch deployed or not.
- 19:30We do recognize National Guard reserves.
- 19:33A lot of nonprofits do not first responders that are going to be
- 19:37law enforcement, firefighters, EMT, paramedics.
- 19:40Now when dispatchers and corrections and spouses and
- 19:43minor children limit in the home and Gold Star families are all
- 19:46covered at no cost. So we don't report to the VA if
- 19:50you're a first responder, we do not report to your employer.
- 19:53It's 100% confidential and it's no we strictly rely on donations
- 20:00and fundraisers to fund the mission.
- 20:02But we're not billing insurance. None of that is going on at all.
- 20:06We're not billing your insurance.
- 20:08We're not billing the VA. It's strictly donations and
- 20:11fundraisers to fund that mission.
- 20:14All you have to do is go to the website.
- 20:17The website has some construction or undergoing some
- 20:20construction areas on some of it.
- 20:22But the main content that you need to know is on there.
- 20:26You go to the website twenty20.org, there's a contact
- 20:33section that's on the top right hand side.
- 20:35Fill that form out. It automatically comes to me.
- 20:37It automatically comes to Trisha Trisha's my social worker.
- 20:41We will reach out to you. Not two weeks, not 6, not 6
- 20:46months, Even on the weekends when those are coming in, I'm
- 20:50replying, reaching out to those contacts and saying hey, we're
- 20:53here. And then we're going to get you
- 20:55set up, you know, leaving a waiting list.
- 20:59You can also just e-mail get healed at 22 zero, the number
- 21:0422. So get healed at 22 0.org or you
- 21:10e-mail me, Doctor Arnell at 22 0.org you can I.
- 21:15Can. Facebook, but you can talk to
- 21:18Tia or Turbo and they're going to give you my number.
- 21:22And however, just reach out to me and I got your 6.
- 21:26I got you. And I can definitely attest to
- 21:29you guys not wasting any time and I'm sure I know Tia can as
- 21:34well. I know when I submitted it that
- 21:37same afternoon, I think, but maybe it was the next day, but
- 21:41it was quick. My first interview was within a
- 21:45day or so. I mean, it was quick.
- 21:47Now the whole process took about if I remember correctly, took
- 21:51about a month to go through the entire process because I went
- 21:54through I think it was 3 sessions and after each one we
- 21:59waited about a week before we went to another one.
- 22:01And each session was only about an hour long.
- 22:03But that, that one hour just makes such a drastic difference.
- 22:09Like even my wife would notice like you were saying how your
- 22:11husband noticed it after you would come through, come out of
- 22:12class, my wife would notice it for me pretty much words.
- 22:16And then as time has gone on, we've seen even more of a shift,
- 22:20even more of a change. And Tia, she was talking about
- 22:27earlier how she was feeling feeling broken.
- 22:29And you know, you at the time were suicidal, but you went from
- 22:34being feeling broken to being a beacon.
- 22:37And now you're taking veterans out on the track, chasing
- 22:40adrenaline and building community.
- 22:43Why does that work? Why?
- 22:44Why does it seem to work for you?
- 22:46So I found pretty much right after I did my session with 22
- 22:52Zero, I was struggling at the time with transitioning from
- 22:58being an artist. My hands, due to my disability
- 23:02from the military, had pretty much eaten away the soft tissue
- 23:05in my hands. So I started to notice that I
- 23:08could no longer paint, I could no longer do tattoos 'cause I
- 23:11learned how to tattoo. It was a big dream of mine and
- 23:14my hands just couldn't take it anymore.
- 23:16So that was also a big part of my depression was I didn't know
- 23:20what to do with my life. I had been an artist my entire
- 23:24life. And it was almost like I went
- 23:26through an identity crisis and I went to the racetrack.
- 23:31I went to go watch drag racing just one random time.
- 23:35I was like, you know what I miss?
- 23:36I miss going to the drag strip. I'm going to go check it out.
- 23:40And I realized very quickly that, you know, I was gripping
- 23:44the fence and literally screaming at every single car.
- 23:47And I was like, this is I haven't, I have this, if not
- 23:51more passion for cars than I did for art.
- 23:55And I just kind of put it, put it off to the side.
- 23:58You know, me and you had talked about how it's, it's expensive.
- 24:01And as a disabled veteran, I just assumed that that was just
- 24:05not something that I could do because I, I don't have that
- 24:08kind of financial, you know, ability.
- 24:12So once I did the session and my mind had become more clear and I
- 24:18had I, I had this new mission and that was to spread the word
- 24:22of 22 Zero for one, and to to gather as many veteran
- 24:27organizations as possible and scream it on the rooftop.
- 24:31Like, hey, look at me, listen to me and I, I need you to hear my
- 24:36story because this could literally save your life.
- 24:39And I figured if I was able to get into Motorsports in some
- 24:44kind of way, that that would be a great way to get attention.
- 24:48And also just to get the adrenaline that I didn't realize
- 24:53I was missing until I got it again, you know, 'cause when
- 24:56you're in the military, it's so high adrenaline, no matter what
- 25:01you're doing, you know that, that you could be called at any
- 25:03moment to go to war. So like you're living in like a
- 25:06high adrenaline state. And when you leave the military,
- 25:10you don't have that, you know, unless you find it somewhere.
- 25:13And there's also the brotherhood or the camaraderie that comes
- 25:17from the military that I was also missing.
- 25:19I didn't have my, I didn't have my, you know, fellow soldiers
- 25:23anymore. And I didn't really have a
- 25:25community of people that I felt close with.
- 25:29I did. I've never really had family.
- 25:31My family is, is, you know, far away.
- 25:33And I kind of cut ties with a lot of them.
- 25:36And I saw it when I went back to the track.
- 25:39And so I, the wheel started turning and I was like, OK, I am
- 25:45one of those people. I like to put my hands in a lot
- 25:48of different things. And I kind of stretch myself too
- 25:50thin. So I was like, how can I put
- 25:53this all into one package? And I was like, I'm going to
- 25:57become a driver. I'm going to use my car to
- 26:00advertise and I am going to get other veterans involved because
- 26:06the being at the racetrack it, it just, it gives me probably
- 26:11like 3 or 4 days of like a massive dopamine hit.
- 26:16And I any and all the veterans that I've brought to the track
- 26:20have said the same thing. They're like, oh man, like I
- 26:23didn't even realize that I needed this in my life.
- 26:27And it has been absolutely amazing because not only am I
- 26:30getting people out on the track, but I'm funneling all these
- 26:34people over to Pam so she can help them.
- 26:38Yeah, and doing great things. I, I, I love both of you guys.
- 26:44I, I really do. Tia introduced me to 22 zero and
- 26:49then just following Tia on on TikTok, which by the way, her
- 26:53TikTok is crazy car chick. You definitely got to check it
- 26:56out. Are you still doing the series
- 26:58with with the older gentleman that's rebuilding the the
- 27:00charger? I, I am, but he has, he's kind
- 27:04of taken like a little break with it, I guess.
- 27:08I, I, I kind of check in with him every once in a while to
- 27:11kind of see how it's going. Originally he was supposed to
- 27:14finish the car in April. So the last thing is going to be
- 27:18me. He's pretty much got the car
- 27:20almost finished, so the last thing is going to be us taking
- 27:24it out out on the road. So I'm just waiting for that,
- 27:27that lovely day that I get to ride in that car because I've
- 27:31literally followed him for the last year when the car was
- 27:35nothing but a metal shell. It it, it didn't have any pain.
- 27:39Yeah, the, the floor. Yeah, the floor was all rusted.
- 27:44It was, it was awful. And for him, it's been, I think
- 27:47a four year project, but I, I came in on the last year.
- 27:53So I really do hope that we can, we can get that out there soon.
- 27:58I'm going to have to call him and be like, hey, what's the
- 28:01hold up with the what's the hold up with the car?
- 28:05Yeah, I I'd love to see the finished project of that because
- 28:07it's, from what I've seen so far, it, it's a beautiful build.
- 28:11Oh, yes, it's all all original numbers matching car.
- 28:14And he is 75 years old and he is still climbing underneath that
- 28:19car, wrenching on it. And he told me that this is
- 28:22actually going to be his last build, which is kind of
- 28:26bittersweet, but I'm very I'm very honored that I got to be
- 28:31part of it. Oh.
- 28:32Absolutely. While while we're waiting on H
- 28:36to get back so he can put us on the break.
- 28:39When the last time me and you talked to you, I I named that
- 28:43episode from bear suits to drifting or or something along
- 28:46those lines and the video. Oh, dude, that's what got that's
- 28:52one of the things that got me with Tia is she would wear that
- 28:54but that bear costume out to these events and just go around
- 28:57and chat with people. And are you still doing that?
- 29:00I I hope you are. I actually I was telling you I I
- 29:03just went to the good guys car show here in Nashville this
- 29:08week, this past weekend and I landed Big Daddy's car care
- 29:12products and cuz he loved my pitch, I told him I said I got.
- 29:17The suit. I have, I have AI have a teddy
- 29:20bear costume and I have I have this whole advertisement planned
- 29:26with this teddy bear to be washing a car with this, with
- 29:30the, the, the the soap cannon and you know everything.
- 29:34And he was all about it. He just started handing me
- 29:38products and he's like, here you go.
- 29:40I can't wait to see the video. And I was like, dude, I can't
- 29:42wait to make it is to be so much fun.
- 29:45That's, that's awesome. I can't wait for you to do that
- 29:47so we can see it. But now that H is back, he can
- 29:49finally put us on break. Maybe if he's not, If he's not
- 29:55busy. I'm not sure what you got going
- 30:04on in the background there bud. The station where our veterans
- 33:18voices are heard. MBR talk.
- 33:20Hey thanks for tuning. In Welcome back are those of the
- 33:26speakers and do not necessarily reflect the views or positions
- 33:31of any entities they represent. Find.
- 33:33Us on the web at MB radio dot US.
- 33:37All right, welcome back to Czech Event Nation.
- 33:40So Doctor Arnell, last week was pretty interesting for you.
- 33:44You went to DC and then you also went to Augusta, GA, if I'm not
- 33:47mistaken. So.
- 33:49So how was that? What did you get to do?
- 33:51Well, actually, so it was really good.
- 33:55Two weeks ago I was in DC with Doctor Davis and Divide Society.
- 34:01We had partnered with 22. Zero had partnered with them and
- 34:05it was the premier of the documentary.
- 34:07So Justin, which is one of our here coaches, combat vet and now
- 34:14we're in the documentary and that was the premier.
- 34:16In addition to the conference being up on the Hill, we were
- 34:20able to meet with legislative aides and share about the
- 34:25mission of 22 Zero and the by Society as a whole.
- 34:30The by Society is really a think tank, but it's working on
- 34:35traumatic brain injuries and coming up with, you know, other
- 34:39forms and methods of how someone can get a traumatic brain injury
- 34:44besides just an ID blast or, you know, from sports or whatever
- 34:48that may look like that. That's what their research is.
- 34:53So had that meeting and then got back and was in Augusta, GA was
- 34:59asked by the Odette director for the VA to attend and present on
- 35:04trauma and suicide, which I did. And out of that I was able to it
- 35:12was, you know, I've always said if there's anywhere that I go,
- 35:15even if there's just one, and which my goal is, you know,
- 35:20making sure there's more veterans healed, but just one.
- 35:24And so that one came up to me after talking and, and he was an
- 35:29Air Force veteran and he really, really struggling.
- 35:32I mean, he had no affect at all. And he said, can I talk to you?
- 35:37Absolutely. Yeah.
- 35:38Come on. So we go somewhere.
- 35:40And he said, I'm, I'm really struggling, you know, and I just
- 35:45looked at him and I worked on the, you know, some negative
- 35:49emotions and running through the process.
- 35:52And he was smiling and just dumbfound it and had that shift
- 35:56and, you know, like we were talking about.
- 35:59And he was so grateful. And, you know, and I just said
- 36:02God, and I know he was the one. After that.
- 36:06I had been contacted by other veterans since then that are now
- 36:10going through the process. But it's doing really good.
- 36:14I also was able to have a meeting this morning with one of
- 36:20the senators for a bill that's they're working on in
- 36:25legislation. But I had a meeting and shared
- 36:28about the mission of 22 Zero and what we do.
- 36:31And so I'll be setting up a meeting with them, the VA
- 36:35committee. So praying that we can finally
- 36:39get the VA to recognize, you know, listen to our veterans
- 36:43because what you're doing is not working.
- 36:46So at some point, something needs to change.
- 36:48So I'm praying and hoping that, you know, the VA committee will
- 36:53listen and the VA can make some changes.
- 36:56Now, hopefully so you know, I've got a just like Tia probably got
- 37:00a medicine cabinet full of freaking meds from the VA that
- 37:02the VA cocktails we like to call it.
- 37:04But honestly, I feel like I've probably gained more from your
- 37:08program than I have those medications because I find
- 37:13myself going through the, like you were saying earlier that the
- 37:15third person process, I think that's what you actually called
- 37:19it. But anybody that's been through
- 37:21it, you know what I'm talking about.
- 37:24I find myself every now and then doing that on my own since I
- 37:27went through the 22 Zero program and that it seems like every
- 37:33time I do it, something, something else is lifted off off
- 37:36my shoulders and it's, it's so much more effective then Prozac
- 37:42or whatever ambient or whatever else anybody's on, you know, in
- 37:45my opinion. Has there been any particular
- 37:51moment you've interaction you've had with a veteran or first
- 37:54responder that's come through the program that is that is
- 37:57stuck out to you? Oh oh gosh.
- 38:03Other than Tia. So I mean, tell you definitely
- 38:08stands out, but you know. So before I answer that, let me
- 38:14explain to you why I'm going to go this way.
- 38:18So my husband served 26 years and you know, 22 zero started
- 38:22asking me to come on board months, I mean probably 10 or 11
- 38:26months before I ever agreed to come on because I was actually
- 38:30the kid police. That's what they call the kids
- 38:32call this the youth service officer.
- 38:35And you know, my concern was if I left that position in the
- 38:38county that those kids were going to fall through the crack
- 38:41and I did not want that. But my husband was able to
- 38:46witness first hand when we were in Florida at military family
- 38:51weekend, Nick Davis actually worked with him.
- 38:56Like I mentioned, he was in Desert Storm.
- 38:57So he he had his his stuff in saying that he wanted to make
- 39:04sure and and he really fully understood the mission by this
- 39:08point. And he told me no matter what
- 39:11happens, you leave no one behind.
- 39:12And that was ingrained in me from the time we met.
- 39:16You know, I would hear of my uncles who served in the
- 39:18military and were in combat, but it did not really resonate.
- 39:22And I did not really understand that until being married into
- 39:25the family, military family community and, and knowing what
- 39:29that actually meant because I was so young back then.
- 39:33But in saying that, you know, there were three events when
- 39:37when he decided to go on Hospice, there were 3 events
- 39:40that had been planned like 8 months prior.
- 39:43And I was not going to go. I was going to get someone else
- 39:46to go. And he wouldn't let me do that.
- 39:48He said, no, you're going. And I told him, I said, I swear
- 39:50to you if you die while I'm gone, I'm going to come back.
- 39:53I'm going to the Funeral Home and I'm going to tell Steve,
- 39:55Steve, I need to see him. I'm fixing to whip him because
- 39:58don't, don't leave that with me. And he promised me, he said no,
- 40:01he said, but I can see you come to the Funeral Home and doing
- 40:04that. I said, dude, I will whip you
- 40:05all up and down that place, don't you?
- 40:08So. And he didn't, you know, he, he
- 40:11said, I promise I'll, I'll, I promise I won't.
- 40:14So I went to those three events. And when I say that because
- 40:20before he went into that deep sleep, before he passed away,
- 40:23the last thing he told me was I love you.
- 40:25Do everything to make sure you leave no one behind, pal.
- 40:29I please promise me. I don't care what you do.
- 40:32You just make sure you don't leave anyone behind.
- 40:34And I told him, I said I will do everything in my power to make
- 40:37sure I leave nobody behind. So anytime someone comes in, you
- 40:42know, and I'm working with them myself, all of them, I remember
- 40:48all of them. Because when I do that, then
- 40:51that kind of helps fill that gap to make sure that I didn't leave
- 40:55anyone behind. We have many, many that come in
- 40:59because of all the roles that I do.
- 41:02I don't work with all of our mission clients just because of
- 41:06all the things that I'm involved with and doing and growing the
- 41:08mission and legislation and stuff like that.
- 41:12But every time that I work with somebody there, it's always an
- 41:16impact and it's always a positive, you know, impact to
- 41:20see the change on them. And that gives me that desire to
- 41:24keep going. I didn't think it was going to
- 41:29get so emotional. I'm glad it did, though.
- 41:31I mean, that's, that's great. I think you're doing wonderful,
- 41:34by the way. And do not leave anyone behind,
- 41:40you know, never leave a fallen comrade.
- 41:44That speaks to me on so many levels because that's exactly
- 41:47why me and Michael do what we do with Czech of that.
- 41:50And that's why we're going to North Carolina this weekend.
- 41:53I'm sure that's why T is doing what she does, and like you
- 41:58said, you don't really understand that until until
- 42:02you're in a position to experience.
- 42:04Right. So yeah, I didn't, I didn't
- 42:09think, I don't know where to go from here now, but I'm very glad
- 42:16that you're doing that. You're doing what you're doing.
- 42:18It's changed my life for sure. Damn it, Joel.
- 42:24Well, I have something to add. It's it may seem, and I know
- 42:30Pam, because you don't get to work with as many people as I
- 42:33know you would like to. But for every one person that
- 42:37we'd talk to and that we get involved, they can it, they can
- 42:44get that message out to hundreds, if not thousands, if
- 42:47not millions. You know, if, if they're on
- 42:48social media like we are, you know, like I, I went from
- 42:52having, you know, a couple 100 views a month to I think I, I
- 42:57reached close to 6 million views in a month.
- 43:01So just one person that you have an effect on has the ability to
- 43:09help countless people. You know, 'cause I know for me,
- 43:12I want to save everybody. And but we can't, you know, we
- 43:16personally can't, but we can inspire, you know, so many
- 43:21people to do the same thing. It's like a domino effect.
- 43:25And I, I, I just, there's just, there's just not enough.
- 43:30There's not words to describe how much it means.
- 43:34I mean, it is very emotional. It's taken me a lot to prepare
- 43:38myself before I do these interviews because of how much
- 43:43this means to me. You know, like if I'm talking to
- 43:46a veteran and they're like, I've already done therapy and it
- 43:50takes everything I have not to get like heavily emotional.
- 43:54Be like, listen to me, like you, you're not listening.
- 43:56You have to do this. What do I have to do to get you
- 44:01to do this? Because it's it's that
- 44:03impactful. Agreed.
- 44:07And Pam, if you remember TA, you don't know this yet.
- 44:11I'm about to surprise you and I probably shouldn't say anything,
- 44:15but I'm going to anyway. Michael can just he can get on
- 44:18me later. So the last meeting that Miss
- 44:22Miss Arnell, Dr. Arnell and I had with with Carmichael and the
- 44:25rest of the rest of the group building this program, without
- 44:30getting too into the weeds about it, I kind of nominated you to
- 44:35be one of our frontrunners of this program for Yeah.
- 44:42And that's why is because exactly what you're doing,
- 44:45you're all how do I do this without giving out too much
- 44:49juice? I'll do that.
- 44:52Hey, I'll hey tell you we have something that we want you to
- 44:56do. We can't go into a lot of the
- 44:57detail right now, but we have a mission for you and it's going
- 45:01to fit right up your alley with the veterans and you're going to
- 45:05be able to make a lot more conversations, I'll put it that
- 45:08way. I'm you know, hey, you know, I'm
- 45:11down. That's what I was I was talking
- 45:13about. I was talking, I was talking to
- 45:16the NASCAR driver earlier, He said would you like to come to
- 45:21Bristol? And I said, let me stop you
- 45:24right there. It's never would you like to it
- 45:28is can you get there? Because I I, I live for this.
- 45:33I literally live for this as you as but you know, there's no
- 45:37pictures right now, but I covered my entire daily driver
- 45:42car with 22 zero and other veteran organizations and a lot
- 45:48of people gave me kind of a hard time about it.
- 45:50Like why would you do that to your car?
- 45:53It is completely covered, but I get stopped all the time.
- 45:58I, I get people reading my car. I added the QR code so they can
- 46:03go directly to all the links. But I get stopped all the time
- 46:07from other veterans. I've literally have
- 46:10conversations with people at stoplights about, you know,
- 46:14thank you for your service. I was in the service.
- 46:16What, what is this all about? And I'm like, hey, go to the
- 46:19links and I promise you, you will get everything you need.
- 46:23And like, I mean, if I'm at the gas station, I get stopped at
- 46:27the grocery store because I live for this.
- 46:29I like after you experience something so life changing and
- 46:34you go from being in the depths of darkness and you have people
- 46:39that have failed you, you know that we're supposed to take care
- 46:42of you. And then you find these people
- 46:45that are passionate about helping veterans and they help
- 46:49you and they, they lift you up from drowning.
- 46:53All, all I can think about is how can I help as many people as
- 46:58possible? It's, it's all I think about and
- 47:02it's all I will do for the rest of my life until my last breath.
- 47:06I'll be on my deathbed going. Have you heard of 22 Zero?
- 47:11And check a bit. And check a bit, yeah, yeah,
- 47:14like here's all my links. Go to the links.
- 47:20So I think that's a good spot for us to pause and take a
- 47:23break. And when we come back, I kind of
- 47:27see your your survivor now, but you're building something
- 47:30bigger. And when we come back, I want to
- 47:32talk about what's new with you and what you're doing to keep
- 47:36the momentum going. Can't wait.
- 47:40Oh yes. Stats tell that each day 22
- 47:43veterans commit suicide due to PTSD.
- 47:47These stats shook us and urged us to do our part.
- 47:51After hours and hours of thinking, beekeeping for
- 47:54veterans was born. Beekeeping for veterans combines
- 47:58beekeeping with mindfulness meditation.
- 48:01Why combine them? Here's why.
- 48:03Beekeeping causes positive rush of adrenaline.
- 48:07While beekeeping you have to be calm during it.
- 48:10You are mindful of your movements.
- 48:13Each week a veteran will receive a mindful meditation to build
- 48:16emotional and mental skill sets. Mindfulness is a set of three
- 48:20attentional skills that work together.
- 48:23Concentration, sensory clarity and equanimity, mental calmness,
- 48:28composure, evenness of temper. Every time mindfulness is
- 48:31practiced, we build these skills.
- 48:34Beekeeping for veterans not only helps veterans overcome
- 48:37emotional trauma but also aids our environment as without bees
- 48:42there is no food. Come forward.
- 48:44The people who have supported your country now need your
- 48:47support. The station where our veterans
- 49:00voices are heard MBR talk. Hey, thanks.
- 49:04For tuning. In welcome are those of the
- 49:08speakers and do not necessarily reflect the views or positions
- 49:13of any entities they represent. Web at MB Radio dot US.
- 49:19All right, welcome back to Czech Event NATION.
- 49:21And so, Tia, you're more than just a survivor.
- 49:24Is she gone? Where you at, girl?
- 49:30See ya. Wonder did she hit the camera
- 49:39button? I don't know.
- 49:44Oh, what do you mean she comes? Oh, she missed a lost service
- 49:47There she comes. She's coming back home.
- 49:49She's coming back all right. Yeah.
- 49:52Sorry for the the technical difficulties folks.
- 49:58I bet she lost service. There she comes.
- 50:06Hey, Turbo, one of the things while while we're waiting for
- 50:09Taya to come on, one of the things that I, you know, I want
- 50:12to make sure every veteran out there, first responder, spouse,
- 50:16man or child, Gold Star family knows 22 Zero is here for you.
- 50:24Please go to the website. If anyone wants to donate, it's
- 50:28you know, we're a nonprofit and you will get a donation letter
- 50:32for tax purposes and it costs $250 to sponsor a veteran to get
- 50:39the healing that they deserve. So if you want to do that,
- 50:42please go to our donate link on the website.
- 50:46Most importantly, if you're struggling, please contact us,
- 50:51reach out the numbers that are on the website.
- 50:53Even that 800 number comes into my phone.
- 50:56So if my phone goes everywhere I go, so I can I take those calls?
- 51:02Yes, I take them nights and yes, I take them weekends and I take
- 51:05them on the holidays. So, you know, please know that
- 51:09that we're here for you. Absolutely.
- 51:12Reach out. What in the world's going on?
- 51:14But she was just back. She was just back.
- 51:18But like I was saying, absolutely reach out to 22 Zero
- 51:22if you feel like you need any help because I promise you it'll
- 51:27be well worth your time. It's not like any other therapy
- 51:29session you've ever been to. So Tia now that you're back, I
- 51:35think. I have gotten 6 phone calls in
- 51:41the last. 2 That's what's going on when people are calling.
- 51:49They've gone to her link. No, that's good though.
- 51:51They've gone to her, her website and they're calling her like,
- 51:54hey, is this stuff real? Like are you being serious?
- 51:57It's amazing. People, if you got warrants up
- 52:00for your arrest, probably won't be a good idea for you to be on
- 52:03the show. Matter of fact, I should
- 52:07probably put her website up in the in the chat.
- 52:11That is so funny. I really want her to want to ask
- 52:16her this question because I I know she's got some stuff she
- 52:19wants to share. Do not disturb girl, not you
- 52:33back. She's like I.
- 52:38Don't. Know what is going on.
- 52:41All right, So just a suggestion. If you put it on airplane mode,
- 52:44you'll still get the Internet and you'll still be able to talk
- 52:47to us now. Are you there?
- 52:51Oh, there. So I'm sorry about that.
- 52:54That's OK. Tia.
- 52:56Just a suggestion. Just a suggestion and they keep
- 53:00calling. Just put your phone on airplane
- 53:03mode and connect to the Internet and that will solve that.
- 53:07Yeah, it was about the kids. That's the only thing.
- 53:10So, all right, I think we're, I think we're good.
- 53:14I'm sorry. No, it's all right.
- 53:16It's all right. But so like I was saying before
- 53:19the break and before everything kind of went crazy, so T you're
- 53:22more than just a survivor now, you're building something
- 53:25bigger. What's next for you and what do
- 53:29you need to keep this momentum going?
- 53:32So I think I've, I've talked to you about a little bit for the
- 53:37last 2 1/2 years I have been working with an organization
- 53:40called Slide Factory and then sponsored by Graphic Effects in
- 53:45Murfreesboro, TN. They do all the decals that are
- 53:49covering my car. And recently just was it April
- 53:5617th, which was actually National Mustang Day, Graphic
- 54:02Effects and Slide Factory donated my Motorsports program a
- 54:0795 Mustang. So starting next weekend, we are
- 54:11going to be building a drift car.
- 54:14And this has been my dream for the last 2 1/2 years, which is
- 54:18going to take this program to the next level because I will be
- 54:22able to hit every event that we do, but I will be driving and
- 54:27giving veterans rides at every event.
- 54:31This has been a long time coming.
- 54:34I'm so excited. I'm not too worried about the,
- 54:39the, the momentum dying because I am, you know, you've seen, I'm
- 54:44extremely active on social media, but what I need is I
- 54:50need, obviously, I need sponsors.
- 54:52I need people willing to donate, whether it's parts for the car
- 54:57or time at the track. I'm going to have to build a pit
- 55:02crew to help me with the car because I am 100% disabled.
- 55:05I can't really, you know, do a lot of work when it comes to the
- 55:08car. So we're going to have to have
- 55:11people changing tires and people helping, you know, if anything
- 55:14goes wrong, people helping run our tent because the, the events
- 55:22are like a full day and everything is, everything is
- 55:26supplied from the, from the moment that the veteran shows
- 55:30up. All they have to do is get there
- 55:32and we take care of the rest. Usually do coffee and Donuts in
- 55:37the morning. We supply all of their
- 55:40refreshments and snacks throughout the day and then also
- 55:44like give them lunch so they don't have to worry about
- 55:48anything. So yeah, sponsorship is
- 55:51definitely a big one for me. I've been trying to lock in tire
- 55:56sponsor, especially because of the cost of tires and how many
- 56:01tires you go through and drifting is kind of ridiculous.
- 56:07But sharing, sharing my social media stuff online is a is a
- 56:13great way to help and sending veterans my way that are
- 56:20interested in Motorsports. And it doesn't matter where
- 56:23they're at. I can find them, you know, so,
- 56:26you know, I try to help connect them with Motorsports
- 56:29experiences. If they're not in the Nashville
- 56:32area, I myself cover Tennessee, Kentucky, Alabama, Indiana,
- 56:39Georgia, and in the in the winter time, the plan is to take
- 56:45a couple veterans out to Colorado to go ice drifting.
- 56:50Oh wow, I want to go. You should.
- 56:53Definitely come. That would be so fun.
- 56:57I think that I think that 22 Zero and Czech vet needs to do a
- 57:02big celebration at the end of the year.
- 57:09That's not my call. I would love to well.
- 57:12That's how you can help. You can go talk to your people.
- 57:17This Turbo, just tell Carmichael, look, we have to do
- 57:20this, The film's doing it. We're going to have to do it.
- 57:22You don't want to be outdone by film.
- 57:25The good thing? The good thing is the flights
- 57:28are really cheap in the winter. Time to go to Colorado.
- 57:33Look, the organization's already paying for my flight to go down
- 57:36to North Carolina this weekend. Hey, but it's not, it's not
- 57:39until like January or February. So you're good.
- 57:43Well. We we can talk about some stuff
- 57:45because let's see Czech events doing.
- 57:48We got the North Carolina race this weekend from a memorial
- 57:50weekend to Coca-Cola 600. And then we're doing Sturgis.
- 57:56Heck, he was just at Texas Motor Speedway.
- 57:58He was just at Bristol. I think we'll be at Bristol
- 58:02again the same time you're going.
- 58:04Well, there we go. We can.
- 58:05We can do something in September.
- 58:07Yeah, I'm not exactly sure on that because I'm not sure if
- 58:13we're going back to real store or not.
- 58:14I know he normally does, but we'll.
- 58:16We'll we'll figure it out. And yeah, so we're kind of
- 58:22running out of time here. But one final question for both
- 58:26of you, Doctor Arnell and Miss Miss Tia, What do you say to
- 58:31someone listening right now who's hurting and maybe thinking
- 58:35about giving up? Go ahead, Pam.
- 58:39So I'm going to say this, I'm I'm actually going to challenge
- 58:43you. I'm going to do a call to action
- 58:46within my challenge. If you are thinking about giving
- 58:50up, please contact me first. Just contact me.
- 58:55Let let us get you set up with a peer coach.
- 58:58Let's get you out of the crisis. Let's run you through the
- 59:00process. Don't do that.
- 59:03And, and I also want to say, you know, for those that that have
- 59:09died by suicide, let us remember we're, you're leaving family
- 59:13behind and imagine the impact that that has on the family,
- 59:18your friends, your community. So if you are feeling like that,
- 59:25please contact me. I promise you, I no one's going
- 59:29to know you contacted us. No one's it's not going to be
- 59:32reported to the VA. Contact us because you are worth
- 59:36it. You are worth the healing.
- 59:39Trauma is trauma. It does not matter when you got
- 59:41that trauma deployed or not. Let us heal that trauma.
- 59:46But imagine what it would look like for your family when you
- 59:50have the healing that you deserve and your family has the
- 59:52healing they deserve. Don't do that to your family,
- 59:55don't do that to your friends, and don't do that to your
- 59:57community. Call me.
- 1:00:01Absolutely. If I, if, if I'm talking to
- 1:00:04somebody, I, I basically try to tell them, look, I went through
- 1:00:0940 years off and on of therapy, medication, all the things,
- 1:00:15retreats, you name it. I did it to try to heal myself.
- 1:00:19And it didn't even touch what I had going on.
- 1:00:22So I had lost all hope that I was not able to be fixed, that I
- 1:00:27was completely broken and, you know, unfixable.
- 1:00:31And what I tell people is there is a very simple solution and
- 1:00:37there is a way to heal the damage that has been done.
- 1:00:41I've been there and I care about every single person out there.
- 1:00:46So if you think that nobody cares about you and that you're
- 1:00:50not worth it, I care. And all of your brothers and
- 1:00:53sisters in arms would not want to know that you were.
- 1:00:57You became a statistic that it's as simple as reaching out to
- 1:01:02check a vet or 22 zero. And the sooner you do it, the
- 1:01:06better. Don't waste any time, you know,
- 1:01:08do it right now. Like don't wait till tomorrow,
- 1:01:11don't wait till the next day. Do it right now.
- 1:01:13If if that's what you're thinking about, reach out to
- 1:01:16them right now. Absolutely.
- 1:01:21Thank you, Doctor Ardell, and thank you to you.
- 1:01:23I really appreciate your time And that's it for today's
- 1:01:27mission and you guys heard it here.
