  straightforward. There was a, you know, List of

  meats. You had to have three scores to

  contend for the title and basically it was the person with
• 4:41
  the highest three score total was the number-one decathlete in
• 4:46
  the world by ways of find a man to challenge meaning really.

  That's all it says, is that you want the combined events
• 4:53
  challenge now, they've they've made it as euros.

  Centered as humanly possible, there's literally one event on
• 5:07
  the entire list. That's that was not in Europe
• 5:09
  this year and it was in Eugene there.

  Now, including heptathlon 's indoors and give.
• 5:18
  Yeah. And and giving score relative
• 5:25
  score score points or whatever it is for outdoors.

  Interesting, fun fact. Indoor world championships does
• 5:33
  not count because only 16 people can be in that, so that
• 5:37
  competition is deemed to into exclusive to be.

  It's not fair, which I find hilarious because everybody has
• 5:47
  to come to Europe to do three meats.
• 5:54
  Add to that. You're only allowed to include
• 5:57
  one Championship meet. So if you did World
• 6:00
  Championships and then nine days later did Commonwealth Games
• 6:04
  only one of those scores the highest of those two counts.

  So in our particular case, we thought we already had three
• 6:14
  scores. We were we should be in third
• 6:18
  place with alright? If you score this, your average
• 6:22
  will go Up and you win found out today.
• 6:26
  We were in sixth place. But based on the way they've
• 6:30
  done the rankings, we actually need fewer points than we
• 6:33
  thought we needed. You go figure that one.

  There are. Five, people ahead of Linden on
• 6:46
  the world Athletics lists and all five of them have lower
• 6:51
  seasonal, best scores than he does.
• 6:58
  Ariel. They all live in Europe, too.

  Well, I mean, it just sounds to me like it is something that

  they did benefit, people, it's got to live with it man.

  And then you can do about it, you know, quite a bit about,
• 7:17
  it's not gonna do you any good but it is what it is.

  Yeah. And you know how I am like, I

  don't care what the rules are, just don't change them in the
• 7:27
  middle. And and again, as I said,

  because of the way we had planned out the season, it

  literally doesn't change anything for us.

  Doesn't change. I mean literally it doesn't

  change anything at all for us. Other than it actually makes the

  score that he needs to win the combined events challenge less.

  So if you have, you got off easy.

  Then yeah, 100%. This is a procedural question

  that I wanted to bring a bring to the to the body.

  It's not really a complaint. So so basically, you know, and

  I'm going to dive into what's going on on the track and field
• 8:08
  aspect of it. I just get a sense more and more
• 8:14
  World Athletics is trying to move to what they you know to a
• 8:21
  like a tennis model or you know that that kind of model.
• 8:26
  What is what is the biggest complaint / criticism of the
• 8:33
  Williams sisters they only showed up for the majors right?
• 8:38
  And you know they went to school they got their High All degree
• 8:43
  their Collegiate degrees. They, they played when they felt
• 8:47
  like it and it was like, who are these people?
• 8:52
  Who do, they think they are? And what I'm getting at is the,
• 8:57
  the normal tennis way of life is that you're playing pretty much
• 9:03
  every week all year. And there's this requirement by
• 9:08
  the WTA and ATP that, you know, if you are Considered a pro,
• 9:15
  you've got to line up and you've got to play all these
• 9:18
  tournaments, right? They give you this, they give
• 9:21
  you the schedule, you plan it out and you play and that's how
• 9:26
  you get your rankings going into the majors.
• 9:29
  Right. And I get a sense that world
• 9:33
  Athletics is I mean, I think it's more than a nudge now.
• 9:38
  Like they're pretty much just flat-out just telling you know,
• 9:44
  track and field athletes, professional track and field
• 9:47
  athletes that if you want if you want to make it to the GP final,
• 9:53
  if you want to make it to World Championships, that sort of
• 9:56
  thing, you have to line up and you have to get points and now
• 10:04
  they're raising the standard so high that, you know, when you I
• 10:09
  mean outside of the Sprint's which I mean the level of
• 10:13
  Spending has gone up so high that, I mean, I think we are at
• 10:16
  what 35 women that have qualified TimeWise.
• 10:20
  But outside of that, you know, if you have any hopes of making
• 10:26
  it in the jumps in the, in the, in the, you know, any of those
• 10:30
  events, you've got to go over to Europe.
• 10:33
  You've got to go and compete in the diamond League meets, you've
• 10:36
  got to get points at, you know, pan am's.
• 10:39
  You got to get points that the neck at championships.
• 10:41
  You got to go get points at the Ends.
• 10:44
  And what that does is that it automatically excludes the vena,
• 10:51
  coolness Arenas of the world that, you know, they may be
• 10:55
  there, talented enough, you know, but they're not pro.
• 10:59
  They're not, you know, they're probably still figuring stuff
• 11:03
  out but they're good enough to go over there.
• 11:06
  Those those athletes are going to get excluded more and more.
• 11:10
  So it's, you know, It'll be intriguing to see what the end
• 11:16
  result is. I think we're kind of in that,
• 11:19
  you know, in between here stage where you just starting to grow
• 11:23
  out your hair and you can do you still have your hat on because
• 11:27
  you don't really want people to see it but I think that's where
• 11:32
  we're at right now. Yeah, I definitely think it's

  starting to smell like a push towards the way.

  Women's basketball used to be right?

  Like, when you finish college basketball, if you wanted to
• 11:46
  have a professional career, you basically move to Europe, Yeah,

  you know, for half to half to three quarters of the year and
• 11:55
  you know, the way the league, the level of basketball below
• 12:00
  NBA was for a very long time, it is definitely going to be to the
• 12:07
  point where most of your professional season.

  Is going to be spent in Europe. Yep.

  about an hour-and-a-half detour around the Grapevine and who

  But legitimacy of this point, if you were just to look at the

  make its May or June. I mean, when you figured that

  the usual ripple effect is for every Power 5 job that comes

  those unspoken truths right now where if you are looking to get

  ahead job, any job that you go after, you're going to be going

  up against experienced head coaches.

  And if you don't have head coaching experience, it's going

  to be a knock against you. And unless you have the right
• 19:55
  people that Our vouching for you and you know and that truly
• 19:59
  truly respect what you do. Yeah.

  It's going to be an uphill climb.

  So you know I can see a situation where D is is going

  out to get head coaching experience and at the end of the

  day, it doesn't matter where, you know, as long as she can

  show that she can handle a staff, she's professional and

  she can get results. That's, that's what matters in

  this in this profession. Yeah, absolutely.

  And and speaking to that, I mean that's a that's a guarantee you.

  That's a big reason why you and Tucker took the position, he

  that experience so he can try to get back into the P5.

  It's a. So what I want to talk about is

  the challenge now. Okay, so we got the job that we

  got to keep. We got them, we have the jobs

  that we have to do a good job and I'm going to challenge even
• 23:56
  scrubbers on the screen. There's two of us on the screen

  that are head coaches to be available to lend an ear to
• 24:03
  these folks when they, when they struggle the time, because
• 24:06
  they're gonna stop. And I would like they have to
• 24:08
  reach out to us and ask us for, you know, our help.

  But, you know, I think that's You know, part of the charge
• 24:14
  here is like, okay, these young folks who's got these jobs.
• 24:17
  Now, they have to be smart enough to pick up the phone and
• 24:19
  call people and ask for advice, but those of us who have had
• 24:23
  this experience, you also be there to lend a device.
• 24:27
  You know? So well as I
• 24:40
  that I was the youngest Head coach in the country period at
• 24:45
  Blackgate just the youngest. And now I think me and yes, how
• 24:56
  pnh me and idea, our P5 G5, the two youngest, and I've always
• 25:04
  felt a Responsibility to that particular Mission, because the
• 25:10
  fact of the matter is even though our industry does a much
• 25:14
  better job, clearly of creating a giving opportunities to
• 25:19
  African Americans to be head coaches, that football does or
• 25:21
  the baseball, does or basketball, it's still not
• 25:25
  enough, right? So when one of us screws these
• 25:28
  things up, it's a bad. Look at it and it caught it, it
• 25:32
  hurts, and it cost a lot of other people opportunity.
• 25:34
  So absolutely People need advice or people, you know, need an ear
• 25:39
  or just need to vent. I'm always available and I know
• 25:43
  sir Lucius season the same way. Absolutely.

  Well, one of the things that I've learned throughout the
• 25:51
  years and this, this is, this is in respect to athletic
• 25:56
  directors. I've learned that there is a
• 25:59
  buddy system where any new ad as to Establish a DS assigned to
• 26:08
  them, like it's not a choice. And so the idea is that you are
• 26:14
  not going to fail. And you know, when I first heard
• 26:20
  it, it was like, are you kidding me?
• 26:24
  Like are you like seriously like this?
• 26:26
  This is something that, you know, how many of our you know,
• 26:31
  of our young black head coaches, white head, coaches, have we
• 26:35
  seen that I've had, you know, these opportunities and for
• 26:40
  whatever reason they've, you know, it's their fallen by the
• 26:42
  wayside Something's Happened whatever and you never see them.
• 26:46
  Mmmmm get that opportunity again, right?
• 26:49
  And you wonder if there was some sort of, you know, it doesn't
• 26:53
  have to be, you know, something that established or decreed or
• 26:58
  whatever. But the idea that a sir Lucius
• 27:02
  would pick up the phone and call, you know, Brian Johnson
• 27:07
  and say, hey man, you know, if you need anything, you know,
• 27:11
  congratulations on the position. You need anything, you need any
• 27:14
  advice. Hey, pick up.
• 27:16
  Phone call me. And that is I think, you know,
• 27:21
  that that is something that I think would help any young
• 27:24
  coach, you know, just to know that someone disestablished
• 27:27
  someone has been in the game for decades, you know, would have
• 27:31
  some idea. Hey Solutions, I got this this
• 27:35
  issue going on right now. I need, I need.
• 27:37
  I need some advice. How do I approach X y&z?
• 27:41
  It's a big deal, man. I mean, and that's not, that's
• 27:44
  not disregard the fact. That what a head coach in this
• 27:48
  day and age has to deal with on a daily basis is insane and the
• 27:56
  NCAA has now piled everything on the head coach's head.

  So yes, if they do need support, whether they want to, they want
• 28:07
  to admit it or not, it is absolutely needed.

  Yeah, I mean look when very much like Clyde when I when I took
• 28:18
  the head job at Cal, I was the youngest head coach new country
• 28:21
  at 32 and the first phone call, I made was to the guy in the
• 28:28
  upper right-hand corner and I asked him to questions.

  What do I do? But more importantly, what three
• 28:39
  things do? I not do?
• 28:44
  Right. Because, you know you if you
• 28:47
  want to be the master of your own destiny, you want to kind of
• 28:49
  make sure you get to the first 90 days without making a
• 28:51
  ginormous mistakes. And and I will tell you, I think
• 28:57
  every one of us would have loved to have a buddy system.

  Yeah, love to like when you get the head coaching job, you get
• 29:07
  assigned. They give you two phone numbers.

  Yeah. Call these two people.

  Yep. Not a not not a hey I hope you

  do know you have no choice, right?

  All these two people, you know, that that is, I think it's
• 29:22
  something that you know, it's is much needed.

  I think we'd have a much better success rate.

  If you know, this was something that was established.

  Hey, there's again, here's the key to this, though.

  The key is, of course, to pick up the phone as to listen, I
• 29:39
  know we talked about this a little bit, you know, the
• 29:41
  absolute Messy nature of our sport.

  I think that sometimes people forget that week, you know,
• 29:49
  there's room for all of us to be successful, you know.
• 29:53
  There really is And unless, you know, the other part of this is
• 29:57
  that there are different rules depending on where you're at.

  Here's a different measure of success, right?

  And and, you know, I feel like, you know where we are right now
• 30:10
  and where we're headed. I mean, what's your lucious is

  trying to do on a yearly basis? Is not something that the head
• 30:19
  coach at UTSA is trying to do right there.
• 30:22
  There are levels to this, right? You know, from the standpoint of
• 30:28
  Politics on, you know, how do I deal with my ADD or how do I
• 30:33
  deal with the expectations? How do I deal with the
• 30:36
