- 0:06YouTube series. Let's get to and see what the

- 0:15tile everyone. But that didn't we already do
- 0:17that tricks on you. Ha ha for that time of year,
- 0:21right? We've got things to do, Trek
- 0:24related to keep the job outside of the tiles.
- 0:26So this evening Clyde is not going to be with us.
- 0:31I'm not going to lie, I have a feeling that guy's going to pop
- 0:33on that and no we're not gonna lie but uh, well I could do it,
- 0:40right? Exactly.
- 0:41With that said, we as always, we'll welcome to three other
- 0:45child's for their intellect, banter and all-knowing
- 0:51knowledge. So, with that Governor.
- 0:53How are you tonight? Well, just got back, just
- 0:58brought when I got my daughter from Jim.
- 1:01Asterix. And you know, it's that drive
- 1:06home to really say, okay, what what, tell me the whole day in
- 1:11the 20 minutes that we have together good night and I can
- 1:15move on with my life. Totally and she looks really oh
- 1:20she's got really good form and we're not in the pictures.
- 1:23I've seen on social media. Like, she's going to be a good
- 1:25gymnast if she decides to stay with it, you know, she's
- 1:29learning now about how much How taxing it is?
- 1:33Yeah. How much work?
- 1:35I mean, I have a full appreciation for what she does.
- 1:40I mean, it's four hours. A day means crazy.
- 1:45So I think the week. Yeah, 338.
- 1:48Okay, got it. Yeah, that's a lot.
- 1:52It is well. Good job, dad.
- 1:56They're Lucius. How are you tonight sir?
- 1:59I am. Well, I'm rolling getting rested
- 2:02up and just in time for the New Year back to bowling.
- 2:07So if you beat me, do hardening heart is good to a solid start.
- 2:17Nothing spectacular. Yeah.
- 2:20Well, I think it's like the third time.
- 2:21I'm bold since May but you know, I'll give you that.
- 2:25Yeah, solid. All.
- 2:26And that's all. Yeah, that way.
- 2:28Yes, love it. Love it.
- 2:34Last but not least, Lamar, how are you this evening, sir?
- 2:38I'm adjusting, I'm doing pretty good.
- 2:43I had my, my rental car broken into it.
- 2:46Had my backpack jacked, with my iPad in it and, you know, I'm a
- 2:51creature of habit, so I don't have my backgrounds.
- 2:54I don't have my, you know, I'll have My stuff.
- 2:56But we're gonna make it work and it's hearing excuses.
- 3:01Get over it. Do a show.
- 3:03Wow, I'm here to here. Right Marshawn.
- 3:06I'm just here. So I don't get fined after.
- 3:11All right, well, we'll start the conversations off with a little
- 3:15bit of structure and the will go booster, as we go.
- 3:21So most recently, we've talked about and we've witnessed just
- 3:26They're in implementations World Athletics and some of their
- 3:31roles and adjustments will call them modifications
- 3:36manipulations. However you want to phrase it in
- 3:40the variety of learn the various event groups.
- 3:43So most recently Lamar brought to light the one that affects
- 3:48him the most right now if you could just speak on that just
- 3:52glumly. So the people know Are you did
- 3:56Sir? 28:20 all over again, give you
- 4:04did. I was just checking to make sure
- 4:07I did, I thought I needed and I needed it.
- 4:09So see, I told you I got different things.
- 4:14Yeah, so here in the last couple of weeks unbeknownst to most
- 4:21people, the combined event challenge structure has been
- 4:27changed. It used to be pretty
- 4:30straightforward. There was a, you know, List of
- 4:32meats. You had to have three scores to
- 4:38contend for the title and basically it was the person with
- 4:41the highest three score total was the number-one decathlete in
- 4:46the world by ways of find a man to challenge meaning really.
- 4:51That's all it says, is that you want the combined events
- 4:53challenge now, they've they've made it as euros.
- 5:02Centered as humanly possible, there's literally one event on
- 5:07the entire list. That's that was not in Europe
- 5:09this year and it was in Eugene there.
- 5:15Now, including heptathlon 's indoors and give.
- 5:18Yeah. And and giving score relative
- 5:25score score points or whatever it is for outdoors.
- 5:29Interesting, fun fact. Indoor world championships does
- 5:33not count because only 16 people can be in that, so that
- 5:37competition is deemed to into exclusive to be.
- 5:42It's not fair, which I find hilarious because everybody has
- 5:47to come to Europe to do three meats.
- 5:54Add to that. You're only allowed to include
- 5:57one Championship meet. So if you did World
- 6:00Championships and then nine days later did Commonwealth Games
- 6:04only one of those scores the highest of those two counts.
- 6:09So in our particular case, we thought we already had three
- 6:14scores. We were we should be in third
- 6:18place with alright? If you score this, your average
- 6:22will go Up and you win found out today.
- 6:26We were in sixth place. But based on the way they've
- 6:30done the rankings, we actually need fewer points than we
- 6:33thought we needed. You go figure that one.
- 6:41There are. Five, people ahead of Linden on
- 6:46the world Athletics lists and all five of them have lower
- 6:51seasonal, best scores than he does.
- 6:58Ariel. They all live in Europe, too.
- 7:06Well, I mean, it just sounds to me like it is something that
- 7:11they did benefit, people, it's got to live with it man.
- 7:15And then you can do about it, you know, quite a bit about,
- 7:17it's not gonna do you any good but it is what it is.
- 7:22Yeah. And you know how I am like, I
- 7:24don't care what the rules are, just don't change them in the
- 7:27middle. And and again, as I said,
- 7:30because of the way we had planned out the season, it
- 7:32literally doesn't change anything for us.
- 7:36Doesn't change. I mean literally it doesn't
- 7:37change anything at all for us. Other than it actually makes the
- 7:41score that he needs to win the combined events challenge less.
- 7:47So if you have, you got off easy.
- 7:49Then yeah, 100%. This is a procedural question
- 7:54that I wanted to bring a bring to the to the body.
- 7:56It's not really a complaint. So so basically, you know, and
- 8:01I'm going to dive into what's going on on the track and field
- 8:08aspect of it. I just get a sense more and more
- 8:14World Athletics is trying to move to what they you know to a
- 8:21like a tennis model or you know that that kind of model.
- 8:26What is what is the biggest complaint / criticism of the
- 8:33Williams sisters they only showed up for the majors right?
- 8:38And you know they went to school they got their High All degree
- 8:43their Collegiate degrees. They, they played when they felt
- 8:47like it and it was like, who are these people?
- 8:52Who do, they think they are? And what I'm getting at is the,
- 8:57the normal tennis way of life is that you're playing pretty much
- 9:03every week all year. And there's this requirement by
- 9:08the WTA and ATP that, you know, if you are Considered a pro,
- 9:15you've got to line up and you've got to play all these
- 9:18tournaments, right? They give you this, they give
- 9:21you the schedule, you plan it out and you play and that's how
- 9:26you get your rankings going into the majors.
- 9:29Right. And I get a sense that world
- 9:33Athletics is I mean, I think it's more than a nudge now.
- 9:38Like they're pretty much just flat-out just telling you know,
- 9:44track and field athletes, professional track and field
- 9:47athletes that if you want if you want to make it to the GP final,
- 9:53if you want to make it to World Championships, that sort of
- 9:56thing, you have to line up and you have to get points and now
- 10:04they're raising the standard so high that, you know, when you I
- 10:09mean outside of the Sprint's which I mean the level of
- 10:13Spending has gone up so high that, I mean, I think we are at
- 10:16what 35 women that have qualified TimeWise.
- 10:20But outside of that, you know, if you have any hopes of making
- 10:26it in the jumps in the, in the, in the, you know, any of those
- 10:30events, you've got to go over to Europe.
- 10:33You've got to go and compete in the diamond League meets, you've
- 10:36got to get points at, you know, pan am's.
- 10:39You got to get points that the neck at championships.
- 10:41You got to go get points at the Ends.
- 10:44And what that does is that it automatically excludes the vena,
- 10:51coolness Arenas of the world that, you know, they may be
- 10:55there, talented enough, you know, but they're not pro.
- 10:59They're not, you know, they're probably still figuring stuff
- 11:03out but they're good enough to go over there.
- 11:06Those those athletes are going to get excluded more and more.
- 11:10So it's, you know, It'll be intriguing to see what the end
- 11:16result is. I think we're kind of in that,
- 11:19you know, in between here stage where you just starting to grow
- 11:23out your hair and you can do you still have your hat on because
- 11:27you don't really want people to see it but I think that's where
- 11:32we're at right now. Yeah, I definitely think it's
- 11:38starting to smell like a push towards the way.
- 11:41Women's basketball used to be right?
- 11:43Like, when you finish college basketball, if you wanted to
- 11:46have a professional career, you basically move to Europe, Yeah,
- 11:51you know, for half to half to three quarters of the year and
- 11:55you know, the way the league, the level of basketball below
- 12:00NBA was for a very long time, it is definitely going to be to the
- 12:07point where most of your professional season.
- 12:12Is going to be spent in Europe. Yep.
- 12:19Welcome Clyde a safe, please. Listen, I just I just drove
- 12:25about an hour-and-a-half detour around the Grapevine and who
- 12:31threw a while fire. So it's I'm having a great time.
- 12:37Wow. So there's that, did you cut
- 12:41through like oh, you're the Grapevine.
- 12:43Oh wow, around the great around. Yeah, to give you context.
- 12:55I never entered the Grapevine and when I emerged, I am just
- 12:59now passing Six Flags. So literally drove an hour and a
- 13:03half to go. Absolutely nowhere.
- 13:06But around the mountain. Yeah, that's horrible.
- 13:12And for those for those who are not California, Savvy, let's
- 13:16just say up and down is I don't know.
- 13:21Is it was a great flight 10. Miles.
- 13:24Up and down something like that. You know, long side is 15 and he
- 13:34said to drive an hour and a half to go around it.
- 13:39Yeah, that's what you want because she said you were going
- 13:44to make your way onto the show and I said he's gonna pop on and
- 13:48we're going to it's gonna happen.
- 13:50Just now it been. Okay, well let's let's get a
- 13:56little reckless again. I mean here it is.
- 14:00The last day of August that we're reporting heading right
- 14:03into September and Labor Day, and they're going to be people
- 14:07who are packing their homes, moving across country and
- 14:11establishing new jobs and new site, the new States, because
- 14:15the carousel is scrolling, and it's like, picking up, like, as
- 14:19if it was June right now. Oh, somebody just put, like,
- 14:22seven dollars worth of quarters. That they like, I'm real.
- 14:26I mean like, I know I wake up every day not knowing what time
- 14:29it is and hoping I land in the right spot.
- 14:31But legitimacy of this point, if you were just to look at the
- 14:33action that's going on, on the list, you would legitimately
- 14:36make its May or June. I mean, when you figured that
- 14:40the usual ripple effect is for every Power 5 job that comes
- 14:44open. There's another two jobs, non
- 14:47power 5, that follow it, right? That's that's about what
- 14:51happens. Well, if each one of us named
- 14:54the power 5 job, that we knew that is currently open.
- 14:58We go around this five-person panel, like, three times, Yeah,
- 15:05I think for like, for me, like, look, what, look, what, look
- 15:08what's going on with rose were all right.
- 15:09Now, you know? So, K-State coach goes to LSU
- 15:14the Penn State coach goes there, zhanna when we are not going to
- 15:18Kansas I said, cased cake, the cake.
- 15:21Okay, James, I'm sorry, Kansas to LSU, my bad Penn State to
- 15:26Arizona. There you go.
- 15:27Reportedly reportedly uv8 it to Southern Cal, right?
- 15:32So, now that leaves openings at can't and at Kansas Penn State
- 15:36and urea And then apparently Oregon is doing a Switcheroo to
- 15:43Tennessee. Yeah, yeah.
- 15:46That the Oregon trouble with the forged because blue
- 16:16Watching football at the school with the red football field.
- 16:24And Kansas and Kansas loses their throws coach.
- 16:27So now there's two openings at that power 5 she is.
- 16:31Yep. Yep.
- 16:33Yep. Appropriate thing about all this
- 16:37is that it's unhinged, it's completely unhinged.
- 16:40I don't, I don't even know how we're here.
- 16:46It makes no sense. I mean in the beginning, when we
- 16:50just got the news that leaving Louisville.
- 16:54Yeah, to go off into some another world.
- 16:58So thank you. So now, you got since power 5
- 17:03openings currently. Yeah.
- 17:05And there are more very much to come.
- 17:07Well, that's okay. It's all we talked about.
- 17:09We talked about the throws open openings.
- 17:11We just talked about Louisville. Sam, you didn't have anybody on
- 17:15their staff Absol, knows that not one person, right?
- 17:21A&T? Still has a distance job open.
- 17:23Yeah. Yeah, Marilyn still has this
- 17:24print jobs opening. Yeah, we just talked about Penn
- 17:27State and Kansas print. They both have jobs open and I
- 17:29know Miami announced one of their openings get being filled.
- 17:34I don't know if they feel the other one yet.
- 17:36Wow. Wow, wow.
- 17:39Well, I mean the the new director was hired at Akron over
- 17:43the last couple days. Oh yeah.
- 17:45But and as she comes, tell us that gotta fill staff.
- 17:48Boston College has to fill a staff.
- 17:51Yeah. Yeah.
- 17:53Oh, wait. James Madison.
- 17:55Yes, which means South Carolina has an opening.
- 17:58Yeah, that's right. That's right.
- 18:01In the governor. I need you to do me a big favor,
- 18:04man, that backgrounds killing me, bro.
- 18:06Yeah, you look like you have. It makes me look like you have
- 18:09no home race is on. Yeah, yeah.
- 18:11Yeah. Really funny.
- 18:53Same staff together since I was on his team.
- 18:58And for her to to walk away from South Carolina is just
- 19:03incredible news. I'm super proud.
- 19:05You know congrats to her for that appointment.
- 19:08She deserves it. I'm sure she'll do a great job
- 19:11but I never thought I'd see her not on the staff with Curtis
- 19:15fry. Like that's how was a shock to
- 19:18me if there's anything that we can read into this.
- 19:22I mean we just saw what Rosalind did.
- 19:26And stepping away getting head coach experience.
- 19:30I mean, I think I think it's it's, you know, it's one of
- 19:35those unspoken truths right now where if you are looking to get
- 19:40ahead job, any job that you go after, you're going to be going
- 19:45up against experienced head coaches.
- 19:48And if you don't have head coaching experience, it's going
- 19:51to be a knock against you. And unless you have the right
- 19:55people that Our vouching for you and you know and that truly
- 19:59truly respect what you do. Yeah.
- 20:02It's going to be an uphill climb.
- 20:04So you know I can see a situation where D is is going
- 20:09out to get head coaching experience and at the end of the
- 20:12day, it doesn't matter where, you know, as long as she can
- 20:16show that she can handle a staff, she's professional and
- 20:21she can get results. That's, that's what matters in
- 20:23this in this profession. Yeah, absolutely.
- 20:27And and speaking to that, I mean that's a that's a guarantee you.
- 20:30That's a big reason why you and Tucker took the position, he
- 20:32took? No because he again looking for
- 20:34that experience so he can try to get back into the P5.
- 20:36Is it as a head coach at some point counts?
- 20:39So, you know, somebody mentioned that maybe he might be the head
- 20:42coach at Florida, might not anytime soon.
- 21:00And you know, I wonder, you know, if this is a banner year,
- 21:05I brought it up. I mean, how many black head
- 21:08coaches brand-new black head? Coaches are there right now in
- 21:12this in this, you know, in this coaching, Carousel and 2022.
- 21:16I mean I'm counting six, why don't you quite a few low UNT
- 21:22Eastern Washington, JMU, Okay. Hold on, hold on, we're not
- 21:27letting you get away with that. Same name, the school and the
- 21:30people who got the job you going to be the governor be the
- 21:34governor Doug Marshall at you, and Erin Tucker Eastern,
- 21:40Washington, D corals at JMU, Alan Johnson, North Carolina A&T
- 21:47Leroy, Burrell at Auburn Carl, Lewis, at U of H.
- 21:52Nadia, what a last name is Linden?
- 21:55Would Brian Johnson. Lots a pozzolan at Ohio State
- 22:02khedive has a TCU who was it? That got the SIU job, which
- 22:07Jones? And there's one I'm missing.
- 22:28Was he not a Eastern Tennessee? What's the name of the?
- 22:32Oh, hi Sasha. Yeah, that's right.
- 22:36Good job, man. Quad, you remember what what
- 22:40school he got, he got, he started.
- 22:41He started a brand new program, he's gonna stop wondering.
- 22:51No, I'm sorry. and I'm sure there are even more, is that it
- 23:00flies in such contrast to the sport that I work predominantly
- 23:04in because there were three Three hired this year.
- 23:10And they wrote an article in D1 baseball about how that was
- 23:13progress. Wow, wow.
- 23:19So it's, I mean, we all know that's, that's ridiculous, the
- 23:25hours, here's what's Wilder. I don't want to get back to you
- 23:29but it's not only. Here's what liq what makes it
- 23:32worse. It's three out of 47 new head
- 23:39coach hires this season. Three.
- 23:44It's a. So what I want to talk about is
- 23:46the challenge now. Okay, so we got the job that we
- 23:48got to keep. We got them, we have the jobs
- 23:51that we have to do a good job and I'm going to challenge even
- 23:56scrubbers on the screen. There's two of us on the screen
- 23:58that are head coaches to be available to lend an ear to
- 24:03these folks when they, when they struggle the time, because
- 24:06they're gonna stop. And I would like they have to
- 24:08reach out to us and ask us for, you know, our help.
- 24:11But, you know, I think that's You know, part of the charge
- 24:14here is like, okay, these young folks who's got these jobs.
- 24:17Now, they have to be smart enough to pick up the phone and
- 24:19call people and ask for advice, but those of us who have had
- 24:23this experience, you also be there to lend a device.
- 24:27You know? So well as I
- 24:40that I was the youngest Head coach in the country period at
- 24:45Blackgate just the youngest. And now I think me and yes, how
- 24:56pnh me and idea, our P5 G5, the two youngest, and I've always
- 25:04felt a Responsibility to that particular Mission, because the
- 25:10fact of the matter is even though our industry does a much
- 25:14better job, clearly of creating a giving opportunities to
- 25:19African Americans to be head coaches, that football does or
- 25:21the baseball, does or basketball, it's still not
- 25:25enough, right? So when one of us screws these
- 25:28things up, it's a bad. Look at it and it caught it, it
- 25:32hurts, and it cost a lot of other people opportunity.
- 25:34So absolutely People need advice or people, you know, need an ear
- 25:39or just need to vent. I'm always available and I know
- 25:43sir Lucius season the same way. Absolutely.
- 25:47Well, one of the things that I've learned throughout the
- 25:51years and this, this is, this is in respect to athletic
- 25:56directors. I've learned that there is a
- 25:59buddy system where any new ad as to Establish a DS assigned to
- 26:08them, like it's not a choice. And so the idea is that you are
- 26:14not going to fail. And you know, when I first heard
- 26:20it, it was like, are you kidding me?
- 26:24Like are you like seriously like this?
- 26:26This is something that, you know, how many of our you know,
- 26:31of our young black head coaches, white head, coaches, have we
- 26:35seen that I've had, you know, these opportunities and for
- 26:40whatever reason they've, you know, it's their fallen by the
- 26:42wayside Something's Happened whatever and you never see them.
- 26:46Mmmmm get that opportunity again, right?
- 26:49And you wonder if there was some sort of, you know, it doesn't
- 26:53have to be, you know, something that established or decreed or
- 26:58whatever. But the idea that a sir Lucius
- 27:02would pick up the phone and call, you know, Brian Johnson
- 27:07and say, hey man, you know, if you need anything, you know,
- 27:11congratulations on the position. You need anything, you need any
- 27:14advice. Hey, pick up.
- 27:16Phone call me. And that is I think, you know,
- 27:21that that is something that I think would help any young
- 27:24coach, you know, just to know that someone disestablished
- 27:27someone has been in the game for decades, you know, would have
- 27:31some idea. Hey Solutions, I got this this
- 27:35issue going on right now. I need, I need.
- 27:37I need some advice. How do I approach X y&z?
- 27:41It's a big deal, man. I mean, and that's not, that's
- 27:44not disregard the fact. That what a head coach in this
- 27:48day and age has to deal with on a daily basis is insane and the
- 27:56NCAA has now piled everything on the head coach's head.
- 28:02So yes, if they do need support, whether they want to, they want
- 28:07to admit it or not, it is absolutely needed.
- 28:13Yeah, I mean look when very much like Clyde when I when I took
- 28:18the head job at Cal, I was the youngest head coach new country
- 28:21at 32 and the first phone call, I made was to the guy in the
- 28:28upper right-hand corner and I asked him to questions.
- 28:35What do I do? But more importantly, what three
- 28:39things do? I not do?
- 28:44Right. Because, you know you if you
- 28:47want to be the master of your own destiny, you want to kind of
- 28:49make sure you get to the first 90 days without making a
- 28:51ginormous mistakes. And and I will tell you, I think
- 28:57every one of us would have loved to have a buddy system.
- 29:03Yeah, love to like when you get the head coaching job, you get
- 29:07assigned. They give you two phone numbers.
- 29:09Yeah. Call these two people.
- 29:11Yep. Not a not not a hey I hope you
- 29:15do know you have no choice, right?
- 29:18All these two people, you know, that that is, I think it's
- 29:22something that you know, it's is much needed.
- 29:24I think we'd have a much better success rate.
- 29:28If you know, this was something that was established.
- 29:31Hey, there's again, here's the key to this, though.
- 29:35The key is, of course, to pick up the phone as to listen, I
- 29:39know we talked about this a little bit, you know, the
- 29:41absolute Messy nature of our sport.
- 29:46I think that sometimes people forget that week, you know,
- 29:49there's room for all of us to be successful, you know.
- 29:53There really is And unless, you know, the other part of this is
- 29:57that there are different rules depending on where you're at.
- 30:02Here's a different measure of success, right?
- 30:05And and, you know, I feel like, you know where we are right now
- 30:10and where we're headed. I mean, what's your lucious is
- 30:14trying to do on a yearly basis? Is not something that the head
- 30:19coach at UTSA is trying to do right there.
- 30:22There are levels to this, right? You know, from the standpoint of
- 30:28Politics on, you know, how do I deal with my ADD or how do I
- 30:33deal with the expectations? How do I deal with the
- 30:36pressures? You know, today's athlete, you
- 30:40know, have I made the adjustments to what today's
- 30:43athlete, you know, responds to, you know?
- 30:46You know what I'm dealing with a kid that, you know, is this
- 30:50close to quitting and he's the most talented kid on my team.
- 30:54How do I deal with? That you know, those are things
- 30:56that those are real things. And yeah I mean if you pick up
- 31:03the phone and you call someone that's already dealt with it.
- 31:07Now you've got some answers, you're not trying to fly, you're
- 31:10not Flying Blind, right? You've already talked to someone
- 31:13that's dealt with this exact same thing and you know, it may
- 31:17not be what you want to hear, but guess what, you know, it's
- 31:21truth. Yeah.
- 31:23What you need to hear? Here.
- 31:25Yeah, you need to hear. Nice.
- 31:30Well, and I think that same advice goes to these jobs that
- 31:33are opening and the jobs that aren't open or or that they
- 31:36think, you know, maybe you're not ready for it yet, or maybe
- 31:39you are ready and you're not, you don't think you are, but
- 31:42you've got to listen in order to make the right steps to be a
- 31:45progressive. Whether it's you know, you think
- 31:48it's a lateral move and then you're too good for what not?
- 31:51You need to listen because like you've established already in
- 31:55the conversation, some of these lot of quote-unquote lateral,
- 31:58moves or Moved from power 5, to General 5, or even across
- 32:05divisions. They make sense.
- 32:08Maybe not all the time but most of the time clogging.
- 32:11You put your hand up. Yes, ma'am.
- 32:14So I'm skipping my heartbeat props tonight.
- 32:18Go out to the LLC crew. I'm not really available tonight
- 32:22in the middle of the 405, but we make it happen.
- 32:25So love y'all and I'm going to get off of this now because it's
- 32:28probably Reckless. Yeah, thank you.
- 32:35I love that. That was hilarious.
- 32:39I do want to say in regards to what you just said, though, to
- 32:44about these jobs because look, these jobs have to get filled,
- 32:47right? That's the reality, be open and
- 32:54honest and talk with your mentors.
- 32:57If it's a job that you want, even though it's this time of
- 33:02the year, like there's a right way.
- 33:06Still to go after this job. Right?
- 33:10Communication is key. Don't don't try to sneak.
- 33:18Don't it just, you know, all the things we've heard of people
- 33:21doing, because that's life without without a parachute,
- 33:25right? Like, look at the end of the
- 33:27day, if you're in a group of five job and you're going to now
- 33:29we and the Louisville job in your jumps coach.
- 33:32The Louisville job is is you know, appealing to you, like you
- 33:36probably need to go have a conversation.
- 33:38Your head coach and unfortunately that conversation
- 33:40may not go great. But at least from a professional
- 33:43standpoint, like you have to do that because the jobs have to
- 33:48get filled in, they're going to get filled.
- 33:51Yeah, absolutely, going to give you and I think, you know, you
- 33:53make a great point. I think that's part of the
- 33:55problem with what we do. Like the communication piece is
- 33:58huge and people either, they're calling the wrong.
- 34:02People are listening to the wrong people.
- 34:05And the people that think, they think, well, I can't call
- 34:08someone. So all they can say is no,
- 34:11right? Yeah, put it in.
- 34:13The answer is definitely no, if we don't pick up the phone and
- 34:15call so yeah. And this is maybe a advice,
- 34:21maybe, hey, don't do it, right? And if a sir lucious is telling
- 34:30you don't do it. Listen, no question about it.
- 34:40Just say okay. Okay.
- 34:42Parents say, OK and can and can see that every thought that you
- 34:45had in that three minutes before you Because you're nervous about
- 34:48it, right? Well, definitely, you know, I'm
- 34:54glad that we are able to highlight some of the moves that
- 34:57have happened. So congratulations to all those
- 34:59people who are packing boxes or or getting ready to pay people
- 35:03to pack the boxes and moving people around but more.
- 35:06So for those who will be filling those roles, you know,
- 35:11confidence, little bit of prayer for all of us, you going
- 35:15forward? So, We're able to run that out
- 35:18for a learning moment there, too.
- 35:22Let's have a little fun now. So as the professional, I hate
- 35:28saying that we're now because of our show like this.
- 35:31It's not professional professional, but the
- 35:34professional Seasons wrapping up every year we've got to get an
- 35:39athlete of the year. So who are some names that we
- 35:42should be considering across? Well, hopefully across the board
- 35:45but definitely across the In the world of track and field for the
- 35:49year. Oh yeah, I'm going to start
- 35:52with. Okay this is Mondo and then you
- 35:57talk about everybody else. We got to mention the others but
- 36:03less, if Mondo doesn't win it this year then there's
- 36:05definitely somebody getting a lot of money at the same.
- 36:09I mean what that young man is done, it just been absolutely
- 36:12phenomenal. And no he should be rewarded for
- 36:18that by getting that award. I don't think anybody close to
- 36:21me. You think about the season at
- 36:22Noah's had? You think about what Krauser's
- 36:24done continues to do you know hey don't Santos.
- 36:28I mean he's got probably your most most improved right?
- 36:33Yeah. So yeah, hmm.
- 36:40So right now the, you know, in terms of the overall rankings on
- 36:45the men's side, the planets is one Krauser's to the santoses,
- 36:50three Lyles is for ingebrigtsen. Five Christian, save six.
- 36:57Kovacs, seven, curly 8 Tola from Ethiopia is 9 and Grant Halo is
- 37:05number 10. So, you know, that's that's
- 37:10based on world rankings on the women's side right now.
- 37:17It is, let's see. It is far more entertaining, is
- 37:22what it is. Yeah, this is actually females.
- 37:31I think this is going to be the Crux of tonight's conversation
- 37:35about, you know, as a preview to who we thinks going to be a, the
- 37:40athlete of the year because I would imagine, if we all had a
- 37:43vote, everybody would vote for Mondo one, I would imagine.
- 37:48All right, you ready for this? So right now, roll has one
- 37:53phrase, a prize to cherica Jackson, three Sydney,
- 37:58McLaughlin for Fan cable is 5. Toby I'm Wilson 6kp egg on 7
- 38:07Tessa ge8, Giroux 259 and Elaine Thompson, her eyes 10.
- 38:15Wow. So when you look at that, yeah,
- 38:18mess, right. So so, so you've got the other
- 38:24insured Dominus of see, you got the other, the dominance in the
- 38:28consistency of Shelley and we do Ross is a cheat codes, like, we
- 38:32achieved Yeah, so like, you know, I mean, you know, but I'm
- 38:37gonna ride with Shelly, an eye on this one for me, just because
- 38:41of her other dominance and consistency.
- 38:43Never touch each one under ten seven this year, but man, it's
- 38:47hard, not to vote for sit. Would do that would give us more
- 39:08people to talk about is give a performance and they performer
- 39:12of the year in each gender. Yeah.
- 39:14Because like, look, there's nobody better than Sid.
- 39:20Sid just doesn't race that often.
- 39:22Mmm. Right, so there's value in.
- 39:24Both of those things. It's it.
- 39:26Shouldn't we have the same conversation with alphabet crew?
- 39:29I'm sorry. I didn't say 100%.
- 39:32I mean In Colorado, right? You know, and again, this is
- 39:37going to be the same scenario that I said last year like look,
- 39:42Rojas has had the best season of everybody, because she still
- 39:46hasn't lost, right? But she's a, a field of enter
- 39:50and be because she's a cheat code, she almost has to compete
- 39:55against herself, right? Oh, well, she isn't broken the
- 39:58world record Outdoors, but he hasn't that been Shelly-Ann this
- 40:02year though, too. Like you said, she just wasn't
- 40:15right. So we're technically she is
- 40:18because that the 1049, right? So, but I would Syd Syd opens up
- 40:23at some obscure high school and runs the second fastest time,
- 40:27ever with it. She goes to is that when she
- 40:31goes to USA's and breaks, Or record and she comes the world
- 40:34and shatters the world record. All right, and he said, I'm a
- 40:38come to Budapest and I'm going on my honeymoon and I'm done.
- 40:42And again, what we're what we're dealing with here, because she
- 40:47has not run every other week, she's being penalized according
- 40:55to World Athletics, right? Because they're definitely not
- 40:58going to give her the award. No, because she's, she's only
- 41:02Grace, she's only Grace them with her presence.
- 41:05What? One time because World cuz World
- 41:07Championship doesn't count in their eyes.
- 41:09You never cause you got to be there.
- 41:11Yeah, right. U.s. chance.
- 41:13Does it count? Because she had to be there.
- 41:15Yeah, so from their perspective, she's only joined the tour for
- 41:19One race. Yeah.
- 41:21It's, you know, that this is where we think, you know, again,
- 41:26we're dealing with the Venus and Serena quandary, right?
- 41:32Women's tennis has known for decades that the best two tennis
- 41:37players that we've seen. Pound for pound.
- 41:41Have been Venus and Serena no question about it, but because
- 41:45they'd have not conformed to the regular, you know, weekend week
- 41:50out schedule that a professional tennis player supposed to play.
- 41:55You know they're entering these these tournaments you know
- 41:57here's the arena entering the tournament and she's not even
- 42:00ranked. There's she's you know she's
- 42:02kind of like in and that's just that's just how it is and
- 42:06they're not going to bend that's just how it's going to be.
- 42:09So, yeah, I mean, there's no there's no comparison.
- 42:14I feel like, you know, we've got the best athletes in the world
- 42:19that probably won't get recognized because they won't
- 42:22conform. and I can't imagine the mental strength that takes You
- 42:34know, that the number next to you is never going to be what
- 42:37you think, or even what the world tells you what it is, but
- 42:40a system of governing body says, no, your this, yeah.
- 42:45Yep. And at the young age that they
- 42:48did it at to yeah. Yeah, but that, that took, you
- 42:53know, their parents, their support system, you know, hey,
- 42:57you are doing the right thing go get your education 10 other
- 43:02things, you know, go be a young woman, right?
- 43:07That's, you know, that's something that, you know, I love
- 43:12it. Absolutely love it.
- 43:14I'm in the wild thing about the way the rankings work is that
- 43:18I'd be willing to bet you a fem cable doesn't lose any more this
- 43:24season including the diamond League final.
- 43:26She may actually pass it. In the world rankings.
- 43:32I mean this is not racing anymore.
- 43:34Yeah and there's there will be a for hurdles race at the Grand
- 43:38Prix finals. I'll be afford a hurdle race at
- 43:40the Grand Prix, final the diamond.
- 43:43So you so at some point time with the end of the season,
- 43:45you're going to look at the list and fem cable is going to be
- 43:48ready. The number one ranked 400
- 43:50hurdler in the world. Yes.
- 43:52And then right below her, be the number two ranked 400 hurdler in
- 43:56the world, who's also the Fastest 400 hurdler in history
- 44:00by a truck length. Yeah.
- 44:05But yeah, you know, these are the rankings in.
- 44:06This is the way the world is going to be.
- 44:08So, I don't know. I think if I if I was going to
- 44:11give a preview and who like, how I thought it was going to
- 44:14finish, I would probably go Shelly and Rojas, Sid, that's
- 44:23probably what I I would, I would guess the podium is going to be
- 44:28but it probably won't be because We got to get a distance runner
- 44:34in there. She hasn't lost either and she's
- 44:38and she's gonna keep racing. Yeah, I mean, they're not going
- 44:42to have an issue penalizing, sit for four only racing four times,
- 44:46you're not going to have an issue with that.
- 44:49But if I was if I was a betting man, that's that would be my
- 44:53one, two, three, I'd go there too.
- 44:55And say, Fraser price Rojas instead, I mean, you're talking
- 45:01about the cream of the crop. No question.
- 45:05Basically, I ran under 10 7 3 times in a week.
- 45:09That is amazing in three different guests.
- 45:13Yeah, so with moving in an efficiency we're going to move
- 45:23on with Rouge. Would you rather answer Lucius?
- 45:27This one's you are again that they went in a while I checked
- 45:33because I was like, I feel like I just talk to you.
- 45:39Did not because I means to let me waste myself of subjectivity.
- 45:43Nobody, I think it's a good one. Okay.
- 45:47I always say, you always say that.
- 45:50All right. So you ready, sir?
- 45:52Yes, ma'am. I am ready.
- 45:54All right. Would you rather only eat frozen
- 45:57food or raw food? Do I get to warm up the frozen
- 46:04food? No.
- 46:08You got it? I'm going to start with that.
- 46:43Pants. Would you rather eat chicken
- 46:46nuggets or chicken fingers? He doesn't think, are they
- 46:54really are? Would you rather always have a
- 46:57slow car or always write a fast bike?
- 47:00So again, they're always drive a fast car or always write a fast
- 47:05bike. You said slow, slow car fast
- 47:09bike. Yeah.
- 47:12Like is it a motorcycle or just a bike?
- 47:16Rare steak will call it a motorcycle.
- 47:21Now, what is Angela going to let you do smoke?
- 47:26Our would you rather never be able to speak again or never be
- 47:32able to hear again. Why do I give these questions?
- 47:39And I found this one here here. Yeah, would you
- 47:56would you rather have What is the worst batch of questions?
- 48:11No question. I was obviously the pigs are
- 48:15walking to turn on. They're going to get the true
- 48:21question. Do the armadillos?
- 48:23Go fast? Because the rate of armadillo
- 48:32Roadkill that I saw Lauren. Gainesville was like man these
- 48:35guys don't win. They all went at all.
- 48:38I'll pay many Minds. I couldn't tell you.
- 48:41Oh goodness, alright, sorry, distraction, would you rather
- 48:44walk through mud or walk through water water?
- 48:48Would you rather go without soap or go without toothpaste?
- 48:54Soap. Yeah,
- 49:20I found a new Bank of questions. So you try that on me every
- 49:25freaking whatever goodness Grace is.
- 49:28Big league, has have a little talk with little league and tell
- 49:33her you All right, I'm actually gonna stay in that same general
- 49:47vein not oh wow, thanks. No.
- 49:49No, I'm saying the say, I'm gonna ask her.
- 49:51Would you rather would you rather never ever coach the four
- 49:56by one again or never ever coach the 4x4 again?
- 50:00Oh, See, that's awful. I was in my bag tonight.
- 50:18My for you never coaching. The 4x4 ever again.
- 50:23Yeah I got a choice for my one. See the small one gets my heart
- 50:27rate up. Yeah.
- 50:29Before by one does I mean for I mean, like it does without the
- 50:32same way, the fearful, I want, more of a challenge so of course
- 50:35I was going to take the challenge, right?
- 50:37I mean, you did win both national championships last
- 50:40year, you know, you ran wonder, you didn't ditch your barely ran
- 50:43a 4x4. And you ran another one, then
- 50:46you beat everybody to death. So all right, I'm going, I'm
- 50:56going commercial with this. Let's see.
- 51:05Okay, I know the answer to this one.
- 51:11Would you rather find true love today or win the lottery next
- 51:14year? Oh, Yes Angela.
- 51:23So are you trying to get me shot?
- 51:27Yes, yes he is. I'm taking the lottery.
- 51:56Well, let's move on to our Harvey props, Clyde, of course,
- 52:04I think ours were versed in Reverse for Clyde, is to have
- 52:07him get home. Yeah, yes.
- 52:13Because you know, he's crazy enough, he might be trying to
- 52:15drive. Back to work tonight or so.
- 52:17No, he is. Yes.
- 52:20Okay. Past the graph has a great mind.
- 52:22No, no, no. Think about it.
- 52:26He said he ended up at Magic Mountain.
- 52:29That means he's on his way south Right.
- 52:33So, I'm saying he might be the one that would try to come back
- 52:37tonight to San Jose and do that hour and a half around the
- 52:41around the mountain, through the Whatchamacallit.
- 52:43Again, let's just hope that he's safe.
- 52:46How about that? Yeah, and I stop analyzing what?
- 52:51I have no idea what you're talking about.
- 52:53No clue. I'm going to go first and I'm
- 53:08actually going to sell Center. The give Harvey project to our
- 53:12staff at TCU because I mean as in any other place which is
- 53:17filling gaps, and and trying to build a really are feel the
- 53:21leaks and all these things. It's a lot.
- 53:26The first time I've ever had to do it.
- 53:27So like, man, for those of you who have done this, the number
- 53:32of times bless your heart. Art, it's just the law and you
- 53:36know, when you're mixing staffs or you know, you can I mean I
- 53:39don't know the experience of coming in with a whole new staff
- 53:41but you know, learning the ropes trying to figure it out.
- 53:45Not only as a single person, but as a program for the redirect.
- 53:49Mm, it's a task attacks, task and a half, at the very least.
- 53:54So I'm going to give props to us for still being alive.
- 53:58And during the last five, ish weeks, and obviously, More to
- 54:03go. I'm gonna double up here.
- 54:07If you don't mind. I am yet again.
- 54:10Could I give a passionate plea to please Faith very close
- 54:13attention to people in their mental health.
- 54:15Like, I can't pick up my phone or open them, like an iPad or
- 54:20turning my computer without there, being pick up the phone
- 54:24and talk to somebody that there's just all kinds of things
- 54:27going on in the world and people are crying out of me different
- 54:32ways. So you notice something at that,
- 54:34know about somebody, please. Be afraid to speak up and say
- 54:36something because it's a lot of, you know, crazy stuff going on
- 54:40Earth, you and then in reference to the coaching Carousel.
- 54:45And I am going to apologize for not doing this before.
- 54:49I'm going to give heart be props to warm this care and Dennis who
- 54:53retired from Ohio State month or so ago after the absolute
- 54:57Stellar career me and she a qualifiers and scores a couple
- 55:01NCAA Champions and no was arguably the dominating team in
- 55:06the Big Ten Phil asking though decade or so.
- 55:09So gracias on your retirement and again, a phenomenal job and
- 55:15all you did with the Buckeyes. I just again I want to give
- 55:23heartbeat props to all the newly minted black head coaches in the
- 55:30NCAA. And in division, three Warner
- 55:33University is where stances. This, this job is not for the
- 55:43squeamish and the, you know, ultimately your success, you
- 55:51know, will be based on your ability to manage personalities.
- 55:58You know, motivate your staff, you know, for some of some of
