- 0:00So I figured I'd put politics to the side for today, talk about
- 0:05some sports. So this is one of the NBA, you
- 0:12know, what player that's still active.
- 0:20He has been really the one player that, since I've watched
- 0:26him, I have never been able to figure out, like, how can you be
- 0:32one of the better offensive players in NBA history?
- 0:39Yeah, when it comes to the postseason, it's been mostly a
- 0:45disaster. And the person I'm referring to
- 0:50is James Hard. So in case you all need a
- 0:55refresher on him first today he's back with the Cavaliers on
- 1:03a three-year deal and look and my supplies like Cleveland even
- 1:10bought him back today. Well, no.
- 1:13Considering that they had to go get him to try help out the team
- 1:22to avoid yet another playoff disappointment, I don't know if
- 1:32he would have been the long term answer.
- 1:39Here's why my estimation he might be.
- 1:44You can argue the greatest show guard is in NBA history when it
- 1:51comes to the playoffs because here's the reality.
- 1:57For all the great numbers he has, you also have to point this
- 2:03out every single time he's been in the playoffs.
- 2:09It's like whenever he gets there he gives you enough of a reason
- 2:14to believe in him only to leave you a century.
- 2:22Like same old story, just a different year.
- 2:33The reality is James Harden to me, he probably might end his
- 2:41career in all likelihood with our championship.
- 2:47And you can like you for the majority of his career it's been
- 2:52of his own job. Now mind you, we're talking
- 2:58about a guy three time scoring champion, MVP, one of you can
- 3:11argue the most efficient scores in NBA history.
- 3:20No championships to show for. Now mind you this was the same
- 3:32guy at one point from a couple years back.
- 3:37I said the now infamous words I'm not a system player, I am
- 3:46the system. If that's the case, then why
- 3:53hasn't said System won a championship?
- 4:01Why hasn't he won a championship?
- 4:10I mean, do I really have to say anything more than that?
- 4:17But why I said that's not to say here and to say that James
- 4:22Harden isn't a great player. That would be wrong.
- 4:30The truth is I can't where we play him at high regard with
- 4:38some of the all time other great scores because he's, he just, he
- 4:46was too inconsistent for me at many times in the playoffs.
- 5:00Cause the reality is all the great scoring that he has done
- 5:06throughout his career, no championships.
- 5:15So mind you, when he was in Oklahoma City, because that's
- 5:25where he was to begin his career, it was a century, the
- 5:296th man, although he was starred at times, he was pretty much the
- 5:356th man, OK. And then when Oklahoma City
- 5:40chose tonight, I guess extend them again to the luxury tax, he
- 5:46then just moved to Houston. And that's where the real crux
- 5:50of all this started. Throughout his 89 seasons in
- 6:01Houston, he was the number one guy, the number one guy on that
- 6:08team. And like I said, he had I
- 6:12already ran awesome with his accurate, but he to me was good
- 6:25enough to lead that blackest team to a championship.
- 6:31OK, now mind you, in this time in Houston, he played for Kellen
- 6:41McHale, who was his first coach there, Mike D'Antoni and then
- 6:49Steven Cyrus. Cyrus, I'm sorry, but really it
- 6:55wasn't until D'Antoni took over they finally released what we
- 7:02saw James Harden really became in his prime.
- 7:15Going to the conference finals 2 times, many playoff appearances,
- 7:23but I always felt like that team with him at that point just
- 7:28wasn't good. Now, I'll get to the individual
- 7:32side with him a little bit later, but actually, you know
- 7:38what? I'm about to go there now.
- 7:42I don't know if there's been any player in NBA history, at least
- 7:46in my lifetime, that you can argue has had more disappointing
- 7:53playoff games individually than James Harden.
- 8:03I mean, if you recall, there was that one series against San
- 8:06Antonio one year where it was when to go home for Houston in
- 8:12Game 6, James Harden complete, no show.
- 8:16And if you want to go back prior to that, he was on the bench.
- 8:24When the Rockets came back in that one game against the
- 8:27Clippers, I think they were down by 20 plus points.
- 8:33He was on the bench and they came back and won without him.
- 8:42Whether it was now I'm adding in the team perspective as far as
- 8:48Houston, like I said, that team at that point, they were good
- 8:56but just not good enough to take that jump towards winning a
- 9:02championship. Whether it was, you know, going
- 9:06up against going stay in their heyday, you know, the Lakers
- 9:16from, you know, that crazy year in 2020, whoever they may have
- 9:23been. And you can't even argue that
- 9:28San Antonio team who was at the last end of the airline as a
- 9:33dynasty. And let me not forget to mention
- 9:412018 game seven in Houston or I could say homecourt against the
- 9:50Warriors. They could not really hit a
- 9:54three-point. I think they had gone were 2728
- 9:58straight without making one from three-point and I surprised when
- 10:07they ended up losing. So the idea that James Horn was
- 10:13never good enough to win championship, it's actually far
- 10:18from the truth. He was.
- 10:21The problem is he kept running into your better teams or the
- 10:26more overall point, he just completely wasn't no show.
- 10:33And then of course, you know, he fell out in Houston, you know,
- 10:37and he won it out. Wanted to join the guy that
- 10:40bought him to Houston, Del Moy, but not yet.
- 10:46So Houston treated him to Brooklyn.
- 10:49Like I said, I'm not going to hold that situation against them
- 10:53because that was all Kevin Durant, Kyrie Irving, you know
- 10:58why that did not materialize. So then he gets reviled to
- 11:03Philadelphia where he is. We united with this site guy
- 11:08that acquired him from Houston host years back in Del.
- 11:17He ends up leading the NBA in assists one year and I think the
- 11:21following year he was in the top ten and you know Philadelphia
- 11:28was on the was knocking on the door of trying to get to a
- 11:31conference final. Unfortunately, more of the same
- 11:37from Harlan that he was in Houston, came to Philadelphia,
- 11:42particularly in that series and his boss, he had two incredible
- 11:48games, I believe it was games one and four, where he thought
- 11:57maybe this guy should be a good thing, that James Harden might
- 12:00turn around. Anyway, some of his playoff
- 12:04failures wasn't the case and he was very bad to unfortunately
- 12:11the guy we have come to know and really despise because of that.
- 12:21And so then once that ended up happening, Philadelphia, not
- 12:26surprised when he didn't make much headway in the postseason
- 12:29at that point, hard and won it out once again.
- 12:33And he lands with the Clippers. And look at that point again, it
- 12:43was really only what, 2-3 years ago?
- 12:46But again, same song, third, first, more of the same
- 12:53productive regular season, mostly a playoff note show for
- 13:02the 2 1/2 years he was with the Clippers.
- 13:06And then, of course, this past season, Clippers had no
- 13:09intention of bringing him back. Long time.
- 13:13So he wanted out, ended up in Cleveland at the trade deadline.
- 13:20And now in that situation, it's a mixed bag.
- 13:27Of course, it was simple goal, you know, James Harden's start.
- 13:32But I wanna go to Game 7 in Detroit in the semi finals.
- 13:39Now mind you that when I have to have been a game seven had
- 13:43Cleveland actually did the job at home against Detroit
- 13:46tonight's prior. But the crazy thing was
- 13:51Cleveland ended up blowing out Detroit by over 30 points and I
- 13:56think was a + 28. He was a + 28 and he didn't
- 14:08really contribute much offensively.
- 14:14And so he thought, OK, if you're, you know, have a plus
- 14:21minus that high and you didn't ultimately contribute that much
- 14:26offensively, that actually says that, yes, the team didn't even
- 14:32score. But it was like, not really so
- 14:36much in a way with math. But then we get to game one
- 14:41Eastern Conference finals and it's the eventual champion New
- 14:45York Knicks. We all know what happened in
- 14:48that game. And I'm just going to tell you
- 14:52right now, I never felt sorry for James Harden cause of the
- 14:59many shortcomings in his post season career.
- 15:05But that one game, that one game, you know, when Cleveland
- 15:12has hugely put New York on the ropes, maybe try to pull out an
- 15:17upset win, and then they ended up collapsing down the stretch
- 15:22and ultimately losing. That one game might have been
- 15:27the only legitimate time I ever felt sorry for James Harden.
- 15:33Cause Katie Atkinson left him out on an island against Sharon
- 15:39Brunson and Brunson made James Harden look small.
- 15:48I mean, that's how bad it was. And of course, you know,
- 15:55Atkinson took a lot of people as he should.
- 16:01But I can remember watching the game and subsequently the
- 16:05highlights, you know, not long after I was saying to myself,
- 16:10where was the help defense? Where is the help defense?
- 16:15Cause Harden's on an island. Bronson is basically making him
- 16:21feel like he don't belong in this league.
- 16:24And then the next thing you know, Cleveland's league was I
- 16:29believe was 22 at that point immediately evaporated and the
- 16:34Knicks came all the way back and won.
- 16:38And then of course they obviously Cleveland Knight is
- 16:40lost four straight. And you know what if you again
- 16:52total win Harden's time as the number one option or even when
- 16:59he was with Philadelphia, the Clippers shooting extend and
- 17:05this past season, you know, or half a season with Cleveland,
- 17:11especially when he was in Houston as the number one guy.
- 17:17He has had more playoff shortcomings than any player in
- 17:23NBA history and work. Is he an all time, you know,
- 17:31official offensive player? Well, considering how he was
- 17:37able in a way to maneuver the rules so he can try to get his
- 17:42own points, you kind of have to say yes.
- 17:50In the same boat, however, it's like, well, where do you rank?
- 17:56Where do you ultimately play a guy for his gift as he is
- 18:01offensively continually year after year or whatever team he's
- 18:10on, always finds a way to want you to yearn more because he
- 18:17always finds a way to leave you at the end.
- 18:19And most of the time come the postseason again, great all
- 18:27timer fishing score. But just I mean, if you were to
- 18:34ask me in no specific order, if I had to list, you know, top
- 18:40five players in NBA history, OK, Spain from really the 1980s.
- 18:49OK, If you were to ask me where would I write James Harden as
- 18:54far as top five players in NBA history revival ring span from
- 19:01the A's, I will have to put him at #1.
- 19:07Now, you can argue with me about some other guys, especially from
- 19:12my generation. I'm willing to, you know, hear
- 19:15your thought. But for me, he would be #1 is
- 19:19not even close. Because for a guy to be that
- 19:24gift of offense, to be able to be one of the better, more
- 19:31efficient scores of his hour, for him to come up short time
- 19:36and time again in the postseason, again, I have to
- 19:40really say he's just not someone you can really hold in high
- 19:46with. God because of the myriad of
- 19:52ways he has left you wanting more.
- 19:58That's really the bottom line.
