- 0:44Welcome back to the boundary Corner podcast on a drinks.
- 0:50Giving Wednesday I'm Curtis with Wilson.
- 0:54I'm Brian seagull. How you doing tonight, buddy?
- 0:58Different venue for me. Definitely different venue.
- 1:01Braun has traveled East. To record tonight's episode.
- 1:07How's the trip down? Not bad, man.
- 1:10Not bad. It was a little bit of a little
- 1:12bit traffic heavy on the way. Way in front of we did have a
- 1:16couple big accidents actually that we got went past a couple
- 1:20folks in the trees and the ditch on the side of 64.
- 1:24So won't make me crazy thankfully, we weren't involved
- 1:29in any of that. So here we got here and not
- 1:32record time but You know, we did two and a half hours which
- 1:38Thanksgiving weekend, not too shabby, so no issues.
- 1:42With the tunnels tunnels were bad.
- 1:44It was everything kind of before that.
- 1:46Yeah, very nice man. Very nice.
- 1:50By the way, I joke about drinks giving, if everybody has it,
- 1:54listen to the radio, or the Twitter or the Facebook today,
- 1:58is the single largest drinking day in America.
- 2:01Yep. I'm going with the normal here.
- 2:06I'm not going anything high level.
- 2:09Although some people, you know, do take it over on Thanksgiving
- 2:14Eve. I've had many of those nights
- 2:17man. I remember some of the some of
- 2:20the wildest drinking nights I've ever had were coming back from
- 2:23from college to home, for Thanksgiving and heading over to
- 2:28the World of Sports and throwing down for a while, and then head
- 2:31over to somebody else's house after that and throwing down
- 2:33some more. Or well that and remember before
- 2:37that became thing. Remember Paradise Club.
- 2:40Yeah, you can you can you can walk.
- 2:46That was always fun, but you get to see everyone.
- 2:49We're older. Now obviously, you know, we're
- 2:53prepping Brian's down it in-laws.
- 2:55I'm here at the house. We'll all be cooking tomorrow
- 2:58not suffering from hangovers. But um, you know, Brian it's
- 3:03been a It's been a fun week has been a short week, happy Friday.
- 3:07Yeah, we made it work. Yeah, you know what?
- 3:11Let's jump. We got a lot of stuff to go
- 3:13through. Obviously it's hate week, V8
- 3:15week, Commonwealth Clash concert by Smithfield.
- 3:19If you didn't buy your bacon, or your hand or your sausage, go
- 3:23get some before Saturday. Yeah, let's jump.
- 3:26Brian. Let's go to j.c.
- 3:28Presser. We got to hear clips of it.
- 3:31Got to see some other things tweeted.
- 3:32Let's talk about. Essentially he basically Ali
- 3:34said they have made as a Monday. No decision on the starter at
- 3:39quarterback for the Hokies. Yeah.
- 3:43Is that shock you that it took one game.
- 3:47I don't know if it's shocks me but it doesn't surprise me that
- 3:50they're keeping her options open and this could be more of a
- 3:54we're going to see some of what we saw in the first half last
- 3:56week with Braxton out there. Some Connor out there some and
- 4:02you might just be something Where Connor gets the first
- 4:06series reps over over Braxton the rice Versa, and then we just
- 4:11kind of see them, you know, go with what's working, switch it
- 4:14up. Could be, that Braixen Still
- 4:18Still banged up there. Making a decision, whether they
- 4:20want to put him out there and it could just be, they liked enough
- 4:24of what they saw from Connor where they feel like that's that
- 4:27gives them the better chance to win.
- 4:28I don't necessarily know if I agree.
- 4:32With that sentiment. But that's kind of where we are.
- 4:36I mean Braixen hasn't played well enough where he's forcing
- 4:40that issue, but I feel like Braxton overall gives us more
- 4:46elements of the offense to play with even if Connor does a
- 4:48couple things better than Braxton those.
- 4:51Yeah definitely does a couple things better.
- 4:53You mentioned on Sunday, he pushes the ball downfield
- 4:56better, he's obviously got a bigger arm than Braxton
- 4:59obviously, some accuracy issues there.
- 5:02But the other pieces, if it's the banged-up piece, I mean the
- 5:06only upside is uva's future defense, which we'll talk about
- 5:10later is now going to have to take into account to potential
- 5:13quarterback, starting not one. Yep.
- 5:16Um, and again Connor have urged what six yards a carry last week
- 5:22he had we went what 24 130, yeah, you know, the bigger issue
- 5:28I have with him and depending on what the offensive line.
- 5:31Like he, like there's where Braxton is to me, when you get
- 5:38him back there and he feels the pressure, he scrambles and goes
- 5:41Connors almost like, tap tap tap the ball, like like nah, dude.
- 5:46If it starts breaking down, you've got the legs look for a
- 5:50hole and just run. Yeah.
- 5:52That's the biggest thing I see is, and I think that's, that's
- 5:55just coming with, like, comfort in the pocket understanding
- 5:58where the reeds are understanding where Where where
- 6:02the timing is? I think that's just something
- 6:05weird. Connor just doesn't have that
- 6:08yet. I think Braxton sometimes.
- 6:13Comes out of that too quick. Yeah, but Connors not kind of
- 6:17doesn't have a feel of wind to come out of it yet.
- 6:20So I think that's probably the biggest thing that he's dealing
- 6:23with. And overall, I think that's
- 6:25going to be the bigger issue with if you roll out there with
- 6:28Connor is that you don't have the relationship with the
- 6:31receivers and you don't have that timing in the backfield and
- 6:37things like that that Braxton, He has kind of worked all
- 6:40season, kind of getting People with.
- 6:44Yep. And that's the biggest
- 6:45difference is just reps to me and but also the thing you
- 6:48always talk about, he's more comfortable running while he's
- 6:49had apparently the guy in his ear all year.
- 6:53One read go. Yeah.
- 6:56Where you know, it's second nature to him right now.
- 7:00So yes, you all just saw me pick up my remote and click.
- 7:04I am waiting the Hokies hoop game versus Memphis to start
- 7:09here and obviously, the first game ran over something else.
- 7:13JC mentioned and I wonder if it'll do this.
- 7:15You talk about going back and forth.
- 7:16He mentioned, they rode the hot hand.
- 7:19I mean kind of plate okay. I would call it hot.
- 7:21It's not like he went out there and took us on three consecutive
- 7:24scoring drives but maybe that's what we see in the first quarter
- 7:28and they both get a couple series and whoever is really
- 7:31moving the ball. That's who we stick with.
- 7:34Yeah, that means there were some places where Connor probably
- 7:37didn't give us the first down then Braxton would have gotten
- 7:39us but there were a couple plays where you know between his legs
- 7:43and his arm, he probably got his first downs that Braxton
- 7:46probably wouldn't have wouldn't have thrown or wouldn't have got
- 7:49to. I think, in particular on that
- 7:51fourth and six pass out there to Lofton, I don't know if that's a
- 7:58completion or leave it. I don't know if I don't know if
- 8:01it's even thrown, if it's Braxton.
- 8:03Yeah, so that's kind of the difference.
- 8:07You get there sometimes. Not knowing things, you take a
- 8:13little bit more calculated risk with the football.
- 8:16You don't, you don't have that comfort.
- 8:18So I don't know if this is a scared money, don't make money
- 8:21type type game or what? Well, in this game, in general
- 8:25scared money, don't make money, but I tell you, what could make
- 8:28is three guys who were mentioned in the pressure being data gay,
- 8:32Trey Turner, like the Smith Brock often.
- 8:34Let me ask you. Brian of these three guys who
- 8:37absolutely has to play Saturday to.
- 8:39Give us the best. Best chance to win.
- 8:47It's got to betray, but it's very close with him.
- 8:50And let's see the Smith. I think it's pretty close there.
- 8:55I think we're doing okay with without having Brock in there.
- 9:00Johnny stepped up pretty well and Well, he doesn't necessarily
- 9:06give us the the raw upside, that bra can give us on a certain
- 9:09play. He does do a better job of
- 9:11consistency and I think that's I think that's the, the trade-off
- 9:16there is that I think at this point in the season, the season
- 9:19you'll take the consistency over the high-end ability just
- 9:23because you know you already missing potentially other pieces
- 9:27so I think either Smith or Trey being out hurts us more.
- 9:33Hopefully we get trade back, love to see you.
- 9:34Him be able to finish out his career with the Hokies maybe
- 9:39announcement this week, that he's heading to the NFL and give
- 9:43that a go, so congrats to him and hope he does.
- 9:47Well, looking forward to seeing what, what he can do with
- 9:51offseason and the combine and all that stuff.
- 9:53So, yep. Now if you recall during the
- 10:00presser JC kind of mentioned Trey, could have been good to go
- 10:04in the second half, but he was held out for precautionary.
- 10:07Let's see. This did not start it all.
- 10:12So hopefully that whole doubtless to give him back for
- 10:14this week. And again, we ran the ball fine
- 10:17past Pro was not as good. But, you know, that's, I think,
- 10:22we know, we're more of a running team, so I think maybe that's
- 10:24why they held him out. Some little very interesting I
- 10:28found in that interview was in after kind of putting the pieces
- 10:32together, maybe it makes sense of why we didn't have a good
- 10:37pass rush with the defensive line.
- 10:39JC discussed how he really missed being able to make
- 10:42adjustments with his defensive line group.
- 10:45If you be at all during his opening, presser he mentioned,
- 10:48he worked with the ends. Bill work.
- 10:51With the D tackles, I'm assuming do.
- 10:55The game, it's the same way. I got the D in group.
- 10:57I got the D tackles we come together.
- 10:59Here's the adjustment, we're making you coach, your guys, how
- 11:02big is that? Because it's probably a ga or
- 11:06pill trying to do everybody. How difficult is that for
- 11:09someone like Bill like this year?
- 11:11It's like I focus just on the G tackles.
- 11:13How difficult is that now that your whole group?
- 11:18It's not super difficult, but it definitely is an extra element
- 11:21that you got to think about. Because when you're on the
- 11:23sidelines, you're having to To kind of think about the the
- 11:27entire line and then how you're going to communicate that, and
- 11:30then you're going to communicate different things to the
- 11:33different different position groups there because it's going
- 11:36to be a different mode of adjustment in the in the game as
- 11:40you go along. So it definitely something added
- 11:43there but you are kind of evaluating as you're going
- 11:47along. Anyway, you just have a little
- 11:49bit more to evaluate and then a little bit more to discuss with
- 11:52the team. Yep.
- 11:55So, that's why I asked you about it.
- 11:58You know, hopefully a second week.
- 12:00It's better to get the adjustments quicker.
- 12:03Let's also talk about something up else would just influent a at
- 12:09ever discussed how JC price talked about that on sidekick.
- 12:14Nah, nah. Definitely.
- 12:16I don't, I don't think that would have been a move.
- 12:19The Fuente would have went with, to begin with.
- 12:21And then, Roll the dice said he asked his defense to bail them
- 12:26out. If it didn't work, asked it.
- 12:29But then he said it, he said it in the press kit.
- 12:33Yeah, which is, which is, just so appealing, right?
- 12:38It's refreshing. It is, it's like, oh my gosh,
- 12:41like, that's exactly! Probably what any coach would
- 12:44have said, how many coaches would walk in there on Monday
- 12:47and say, yeah, I told the defense, what we were gonna do
- 12:49and I told her if I screwed it up, Y'all got to help them, feel
- 12:52me out, but it wasn't. He works on the defensive side
- 12:56of the ball up again with he's got that type of relationship
- 12:59with them where he's thinking, we're rolling the dice here.
- 13:03Pick my pick up my slack if I'm wrong.
- 13:06Yep. Yep.
- 13:07Another big thing. Probably not done by adjusting
- 13:10for Wednesday was bringing in Nikki Giovanni to speak with the
- 13:12team this week. A treasure for jigna Tech, you
- 13:17know, And it's why we continue to say in its you know, the
- 13:23white Vic said it this morning, we've set it on this podcast,
- 13:27Jacey needs to be retained regardless.
- 13:30Yeah. Because for a new coach, if you
- 13:34need someone in maybe if we think about what happened with
- 13:38the one day when he came in, he had blood and everything but
- 13:43wasn't a graduate attack yet but had been coaching their here
- 13:47close to 30 years. When it happened.
- 13:48So he was at Virginia Tech but I think having a Virginia Tech
- 13:51man. Yep.
- 13:54Just get that coach in and literally almost tour guide him,
- 13:58right? Show him around showing places.
- 14:03Make them think talking about the history talk about what
- 14:06happened here. Talk about yep.
- 14:08What these places mean to you and how you can use those to
- 14:13sell two recruits to sell, donors to sell to.
- 14:17I mean, sell the program to everybody.
- 14:20It's very true and is one, likely.
- 14:23The next head coach is not going to be a hokie grad or a former
- 14:26hockey player or anything like that.
- 14:29And that's the This is not likely going to be, I don't
- 14:32think there's anybody out there right now.
- 14:34That is has that potential. Two.
- 14:45To sorry. I'm trying to get the game on
- 14:47here folks and I'm the ESPN app is screwing with me, but you
- 14:52just need some in the way. It seems 20 never bought into
- 14:55the culture, and I think he showed respect to Beamer, but I
- 15:00don't think he ever like understood what the town means
- 15:04to anyone. Anyone that is a fan.
- 15:08If you're a fan of Virginia Tech, the town of Blacksburg,
- 15:12you should have memories in that town.
- 15:14We do, if you're a fan you've been there.
- 15:16You should have memories at certain places.
- 15:19I know. You know, for me it's probably
- 15:21between tops and Fox Ridge and a couple other places.
- 15:24I knew, I know where yours is, dude.
- 15:29Yep. Yep, the old trick to get in
- 15:33there that was talk to you and then, you know, I wonder if
- 15:38that's still the case. I don't know if they changed the
- 15:40technology or updated the doors or anything since then it's
- 15:43true. And back in 2019, when we went
- 15:46down, you were like tempted, like should I go to try them?
- 15:48Like, do with 36 years old? No, we don't need to do this.
- 15:52Yeah. Like, I come off wrong.
- 15:55Like come on. I had enough of it, was enough
- 15:57of a faux pas when I was saying these things and like my early
- 15:59twenties, it's true. But you know, he just the next
- 16:07coach needs that and I think having someone like JC because
- 16:11especially I think with JC, maybe it's even more.
- 16:13So So JC who had been away from home for close to 20 years?
- 16:18Comes back and he relives, those pieces and his wife is a hokey
- 16:24Hall of Famer his wife play here.
- 16:25They met here it's that guy. You need to know everything.
- 16:30Yeah Brian let's hit this real quick before we go on and go
- 16:33into these other topics. Sure.
- 16:35Daryl. Bailey hits the portal defensive
- 16:38lineman switch is too offensive. Lineman obviously this is
- 16:41probably gonna be the first of many. any any any shocker there
- 16:46or you know is it one of those things where you almost want to
- 16:50say hey man can you just wait and see who the coach is going
- 16:55to be? I mean, this is the like further
- 16:59attrition from that 2020 class, right?
- 17:03we're at 55 and then really the best five, not that was a great
- 17:09class at least in terms of rankings, but You got, you got
- 17:14five gone from it and it's five of five of the best six in terms
- 17:20of this ranking. So who's the only one left now?
- 17:27Who was it? Things, one of the running
- 17:30backs, Jamie Hampton Galen in Caitlin Hampton has not been
- 17:34with the team for a while. So, yeah.
- 17:39I mean, I get it, I get if you're going to do it, but to
- 17:43me, I wouldn't tell every kid who's there.
- 17:47Wait, wait to see who the new coaches?
- 17:53Yeah. Because this could easily
- 17:56easily, someone could come in that recruited you or you had a
- 17:59good relationship with in the next thing, you know, you're in
- 18:02the portal and you're going to have to walk back into their
- 18:04office and say I'd like to come back and then it becomes a whole
- 18:07different circumstance, right? Like.
- 18:09Well, do you didn't even know I was coming here and you just
- 18:12left. What type of mentality are you
- 18:14in? Yeah, I think that's the big
- 18:18thing because if we look at it, you know, we more than likely
- 18:21going to have an answer on this thing, by the middle of
- 18:25December. Nobody's getting a jump on this
- 18:28situation, but I'm doing it now. In terms of the like portal and
- 18:34everything else. I mean if you're getting it done
- 18:37before late signing day, I think you're fine because you kind of
- 18:42position yourself to be. Kind of that either completing a
- 18:47class or kind of be that filler. Once a 12 classes, you know,
- 18:51officially finalized, I know some people want to get a jump
- 18:55and get enrolled for the winter going in the spring, but I think
- 19:03you can still do that with a early December portal visit
- 19:08versus having to wait until later.
- 19:12So that's kind of where I think the situation is.
- 19:17It's going to be interesting to see if he hangs around or if he
- 19:21kind of already has an idea of where he's going so that's why
- 19:23you went ahead and did it. Ya know, if that's the case, if
- 19:27he already knows where he wants to go, like we mentioned when we
- 19:31had our portal episode, you know?
- 19:35I'm just in a few months ago. Recruit.
- 19:41He's not stopping. Yeah, you know it's I mean you
- 19:46want to make a bet that the second Justin for Wednesday was
- 19:48fired. Somebody who liked Daryl Bailey.
- 19:54From when he was being recruited, didn't text him.
- 19:58Hey, sorry about, you know Soulfood got fired know.
- 20:01You really loved him as your coach, hey, you know, you know
- 20:05how much we liked you just keep us in mind.
- 20:08Hit me up. There's no because the NCAA such
- 20:11a f up. There's no sort of guidelines on
- 20:14that, right? No, you can't, you can't say,
- 20:17well, you can't recruit like you can still have the
- 20:20relationships. So, again, the end of the NCAA
- 20:23screw-up, which is never a shop, essentially, is its it's liked a
- 20:29seasoned right in the NBA, the NFL and any other Major League
- 20:32sport Yeah, it's interesting. And you know I imagine that
- 20:38there's some some relationship still there that, you know, it's
- 20:41just a couple years back at this point and you know Bailey was a
- 20:46guy that was asked to switch positions because of a need
- 20:50real. Only saw action in one game
- 20:53against UNC. I think that was kind of a when
- 20:57they were still mixing up the line to see what type of
- 20:59rotation that was going to look like so, You know, I get it from
- 21:07his perspective perspective if he knows what he wants to do and
- 21:10he prefers that defensive line which that may be the case that
- 21:14that might be one of the things that's that was holding this
- 21:16back here as well. Was the you know is asked to
- 21:20switch switch switch positions, his coaches and 30 more likely
- 21:23going to lose most of his offensive staff might be a good
- 21:26chance to kind of hit the reset button for him.
- 21:28Yep. And he's still a freshman.
- 21:31And he hasn't played so he's gonna walk in elsewhere at the
- 21:34one-time transfer rule as a freshman he just gonna have to
- 21:37sit. So you know it is what it is
- 21:39we're going to see more we'll talk about them as it come
- 21:41around. Yep.
- 21:43Something mean you wanted to hit before this game just to kind of
- 21:49put a reset on. Hey I finally got the game on.
- 21:52We're down 10 7 5 minutes in. Yep.
- 21:55All right, job openings. Now one guy that had been
- 21:59mentioned with numerous Folks numerous you potentially song
- 22:03Going the SEC Hugh freeze gets extended at Liberty.
- 22:06Yeah, I'm a little shocked by that that he would take such an
- 22:11extension. So it's either a.
- 22:15I wonder if he's just been told by schools you got another three
- 22:18to four years before anybody's going to touch you.
- 22:22You've been there a couple you're doing the Remake tour,
- 22:24you're still showing you can coach but nobody wants to deal
- 22:27with that potential backlash. Yeah, I think that's some of it.
- 22:32I think it just is You know, one of those things where you get a
- 22:38reputation and I think they want to see a little bit larger
- 22:41sample size and Liberty obviously is completely content
- 22:46with having having him. So they made a play to go ahead
- 22:52and keep him in house, push them over 4 million a year and, you
- 22:57know, I don't think anybody else is ready to give him much more
- 22:59than that, to draw him away from Liberty.
- 23:02So, unless he's getting a opportunity that he can't turn
- 23:05down, Then that kind of puts him riding Liberty a little bit
- 23:09longer until the that opportunity comes as way.
- 23:12Yep, I agree with you on that 100%.
- 23:14I think he's just going to wait, it and I think he's been told
- 23:17because I think a team like LSU would have taken a risk on him
- 23:20in a heartbeat. He came in that division, he
- 23:23beat Saban, he hadn't competitive.
- 23:26He had good recruiting classes for various reasons, but I think
- 23:31he's been told you've still got a few more years before you're
- 23:33allowed back in the water. X.
- 23:36Yeah, I ran, let's run through these schools and let's just
- 23:39kind of say Are we competing with them?
- 23:43Or we not competing with them. So I'm gonna throw the first one
- 23:47here because the smokes all over the place the Florida Gators
- 23:50competing now competing. Absolutely competing probably on
- 23:54this list the school we're competing most directly for at
- 23:59what we consider higher end. Evaluations that we're aiming
- 24:05for in terms of our targets, whereas there, that's probably
- 24:07their first or second tier targets as well.
- 24:12So, yeah, they're probably at the top of the list in terms of
- 24:16who we were. We were fighting for for the
- 24:19next hit coach. I agree.
- 24:21I think something you said the other day.
- 24:23I think our first choice is probably their third I really, I
- 24:30really believe that I really you said it the other day and I'm
- 24:33going to, I'm going to back what you said.
- 24:35You kind of said he's up there but he's not there one.
- 24:39Because I think what you made the point of the other day, if
- 24:43he was there one and he really wanted to go there, it already
- 24:46be done. Yeah, that's kind of what I was
- 24:49thinking. If he was there one, if we, if
- 24:53we had, if we if if our one was his one was there one.
- 24:57Then you'd already be a done deal.
- 25:00Not saying that we can't compete with the same targets that
- 25:03Florida is targeting. But I mean, when you look at the
- 25:08Sources. When you look at the facilities,
- 25:13I mean, there's a lot of things that stack up.
- 25:15The only thing that Really doesn't stack up is that it's a
- 25:19little bit harder to win in that, in that division.
- 25:23There you go. Agreed, 100%.
- 25:25Alright. Next LSU, competing not
- 25:27competing competing but not as strenuously as Florida.
- 25:33I feel like LSU, oftentimes has specific guys in mind while I
- 25:41feel like a guy like, Napier is definitely on the radar just
- 25:43because he has been recruiting that state.
- 25:46Yep, I think they're looking for.
- 25:48Big Fish higher. So I don't necessarily think
- 25:52that like more likely. They're trying to lure a Jimbo
- 25:55Fisher, tight coach away from a school like am before.
- 25:59They're targeting an in-state G5 coach.
- 26:03Like Napier, I'm going to say this, I don't even think.
- 26:07I think they might be reaching out to Jimbo that might be their
- 26:09first choices. I'll give you my straight up who
- 26:12I think they're going to get It's going to be Dave Aranda,
- 26:16you think. So the coach of Baylor, the
- 26:19defensive coordinator, when they won the national title, it was
- 26:23there for multiple years. Had multiple good defense has
- 26:26very familiar with the school. I think he's gone.
- 26:31I think he's there, I think they called about Jimbo.
- 26:34I think they called about some other guys who aren't really
- 26:37their current situations and I think he's going to be like
- 26:40they're three, I think Napier's probably there five or six?
- 26:45But I think it's going to be a random unless as we talk about
- 26:49the next one. Yep.
- 26:52Let's talk to USC University of Southern California, PT, not
- 26:57competing. I'm not competing me either.
- 27:02I think jealous, you might be competing with them.
- 27:04For a random Brandon is a California guy and if you take
- 27:10the lay of the land, do you go back to to the go back home at a
- 27:19program that essentially needs a little bit of a rebuild that's
- 27:24going to be interesting but we're going to talk about this
- 27:28in. Uncle Dave.
- 27:28I think we've got to mention it right here.
- 27:31James Franklin going there. Yep.
- 27:35And we're going to I think that's the Big Thing.
- 27:37Once James Franklin, got extended that really kind of
- 27:40changed the game yet. I really kind of changed the
- 27:44game in terms of who, USC was going to be targeting.
- 27:47And I think that took a lot of the other guys that we were
- 27:50potentially worried about from the chipper down, perspective
- 27:53out of play. yeah, can ask this and we're going to talk about a
- 27:57few more schools but looks we will talk about the triple down
- 28:00Penn State's now off the table and people are we, it was kind
- 28:04of a shocker of, that's a long extension, your Penn State In
- 28:10the last five years you've been to three new year, six bowls.
- 28:14You want a Big Ten title, you beat, Ohio State, you beat
- 28:17Michigan. Yep.
- 28:20You can say what you will, you say what you will.
- 28:24And I will go to defense, was Justin Fuente in the last five
- 28:26years. It's just the one thing in the
- 28:27last five years had won, the ACC 123 New Year's bowls, would we
- 28:31extend him 10 years? Probably could say, well, he's
- 28:34got dry personally, I don't give a damn about his personality.
- 28:39He He is winning and He is wanting to a point to where he's
- 28:42going to big games all the time. Yeah.
- 28:44It's like that understanding their Niche right there.
- 28:48Understanding we're going to have probably once every five
- 28:51years where the team is together.
- 28:52We can make a wrong and we're happy with that.
- 28:58Well, they recruit well enough where, you know, they're always
- 29:01going to be competitive even if they're not necessarily winning
- 29:05the division, right? Yeah, absolutely.
- 29:09Always competitive even this year in kind of a Down year for
- 29:13them and if they beat Michigan State they're going to have a
- 29:15twins. Probably go to a solid Bowl.
- 29:17Have a chance to win nine. Yeah, couple years before that
- 29:20winning 10 and 11 games. I think whoever the ad in that
- 29:25base understands this is where we need to be.
- 29:30Now one program that had been like that for close to 20 years
- 29:35because the next one we'll talk about TCU.
- 29:38And I'll say, I think we're competing with them but they did
- 29:41get the jump and haven't really made a move yet.
- 29:46And then the story broke that Sonny Dykes is likely there.
- 29:49Does that shock you? It doesn't shock me.
- 29:52It's a good fit overall for them.
- 29:54It's kind of a, I mean, Sonny Dykes in the Texas area is
- 29:59essentially kind of doing the same things that some of the
- 30:03other guys, we talked about heavily in the last last show
- 30:06are doing closer to our Geographic footprint, so that
- 30:10kind of makes sense for them. Yeah, and because of that, that
- 30:15takes somebody else out of Play, That's not directly competing.
- 30:19No, I'll ask this. If you're the SMU a d is for one
- 30:23day, you're one or is what happened at Virginia Tech has
- 30:27SMU since you. Let's just kind of go with, they
- 30:30had Chad Morris had good success.
- 30:32Dykes has picked up kind of work.
- 30:33Chad left off and had good success.
- 30:36Do you turn? To Justin Fuente.
- 30:41I think 20 is in that discussion.
- 30:43I don't think he's necessarily there one but I think he's
- 30:45probably there two or three. All right, makes sense.
- 30:49Obviously the last two are the two schools out, Wes u-dub, and
- 30:52Wazoo. I don't really see them
- 30:56competing on for us. I think they're hires will be
- 31:01interesting. Yeah.
- 31:04But I can't see to Upper Northwest school's coming after
- 31:09anybody in the South or Southeast.
- 31:11And, yes, I know Auburn hired a Boise coach, which was
- 31:14completely unexpected. But, you know, I think here's
- 31:24what I'd like to look at. Okay.
- 31:25Whoever u-dub hires, I'd like to compare them to are higher
- 31:29because I can see a lot of similarities with us and u-dub
- 31:32as an overall program Style. Is not the last 10 years because
- 31:35Peterson went. There went to the playoff, won
- 31:37the Pac-12 several times. Had a really good record.
- 31:41But I think looking at who they hire who we hire and kind of
- 31:44doing a tit-for-tat like you know, are we in the same
- 31:48ballpark or is like man they hired this guy this guy's four
- 31:51times better than what we got. Yeah.
- 31:54I see what you're saying. Yeah.
- 31:56All right so Brian we've already kind of mentioned it.
- 31:59The trickle-down effect obviously Penn State out thank
- 32:01goodness but let's talk about ones.
- 32:04We think we already mentioned David Randall with Baylor.
- 32:11I don't think Billy Napier any other guys, I feel like that's
- 32:16going to be such a weird job to go.
- 32:19Take. Yeah.
- 32:21And with Texas Tech and TCU already open already chasing
- 32:29after guys, they are going to Aranda does go because a random
- 32:34might have to wait until What if Oklahoma State's beats Oklahoma?
- 32:40Baylor gets the Big 12 Championship.
- 32:42Yeah, so you're almost having to wait really a long, long time
- 32:48for baking Hitler in this case. Like, if LSU, swoops in they
- 32:52sign the contract Baylor's, literally looking for the week
- 32:55before Signing Day to get a new coach, That's going to be tough.
- 33:02That's gonna be a tough one. And I think they probably I
- 33:05wonder if they're already like and somebody in particular as
- 33:08well. Thinking that a random I'd be
- 33:10one of those guys that's going to be getting getting picked off
- 33:15there or if they may be willing to push some chips in and extend
- 33:18him. So that's something that doesn't
- 33:20happen. Maybe that would be really
- 33:22interesting. If Baylor were able to hold on
- 33:25them. Especially with the two jobs,
- 33:26he's essentially link to all right.
- 33:29It was mentioned last week that kind of Manny Diaz was playing
- 33:33for his job. I still think Manny Diaz is out.
- 33:36You know, new ad more money being pushed.
- 33:42Yeah. They're almost in a full-length
- 33:44a situation, but they don't have covid to fall back home.
- 33:48Not to fire. Yeah.
- 33:50And they're in a situation where there, There's kind of
- 33:56struggling with mediocrity as well.
- 33:58They're probably a little bit ahead of us, in terms of
- 34:01recruiting and a little bit ahead of us.
- 34:03In terms of, you know, what type of record they have.
- 34:08They've had a little bit higher highs recently, and not quite as
- 34:12many valleys, but, yeah, I think if you didn't have the new ad
- 34:18coming in, I think you can make a case for may need.
- 34:20He's staying at least another year.
- 34:23I don't know if you can make that case.
- 34:25Right now, just because with the new ad, kind of all bets are
- 34:30off. He was that new ad going to come
- 34:33and give an extra year or is that douady?
- 34:36Going to go ahead and pull the trigger and get his guy in
- 34:38there. Yep.
- 34:40You think this guy would be though That's a good question
- 34:44because I think Florida schools in particular are going to be in
- 34:48that direct conflict with us in terms of going after coaches.
- 34:53So the question is, do they make the call soon enough where
- 34:55they're in any sort of play to impact?
- 35:00You know what we're doing? What Florida's doing?
- 35:03You know, us and Florida may already have have the pickaxe
- 35:06you sewn up. We just haven't been able to
- 35:08officially announce it, see what them?
- 35:11I think it's completely different.
- 35:12I think they've got the higher In Mario crystal ball, okay?
- 35:18If you can, I mean the guy played on the 91 championship
- 35:22team started, o-line played in the 92 championship game.
- 35:25He has been a successful coach. He was there for a while during
- 35:29the Coker era and I think you just pick up and say, listen,
- 35:35this is yours. Do you want to come home?
- 35:37Yeah. And for I think that you sit
- 35:41there and say well what do you really want to do that?
- 35:43There's money at organ. All right, here's the deal.
- 35:48And this is a little ego thing. Mario crystal balls coach to
- 35:52close to 20 years in the last 10.
- 35:54He's been at nothing but high profile jobs, he's making it a
- 35:57five and a half million at Oregon.
- 35:59I don't think worries about money.
- 36:01I think Mario Chris, Paul's got 20 million in the bank, maybe a
- 36:03little less. He's definitely got probably
- 36:05eight figures. For him though, to be to have
- 36:11the championship ring on his finger, to be the guy who could
- 36:15potentially bring back the you. That's something that would
- 36:21could never come off you. Yeah, it's true.
- 36:24I think the way he coaches, he could do it, but if that happens
- 36:28in Oregon's, going to be open. And all right now or them to me
- 36:34is more of a national job. I don't think they'd be looking
- 36:37at anybody we're looking at but again it's that Fallout effect,
- 36:41right? Could you not opening up trickle
- 36:44something? Could they get somebody from a
- 36:47school that might impact us? Yeah, that's the big thing
- 36:56because right now we don't really know what that's going to
- 36:58look like they do have a bigger National footprint, but I don't
- 37:04know if their National footprint really is going to be targeting
- 37:07you know, kind of those top three or four guys and we're
- 37:09looking at I can see them going big time, power five, defensive
- 37:15coordinator. I can see them going defensive
- 37:17or offensive coordinator. I can see them going.
- 37:22Targeting a head coach or a former head coach and picking
- 37:25them off. They really have a lot of
- 37:27options but I don't necessarily think that they necessarily step
- 37:31on our toes very much either. Yep, this would be more of a
- 37:35triple down like like even further trickle-down effect
- 37:38depending on where they pulled from, you know, so much of their
- 37:43stuff has been internal. Hires you go all the way back.
- 37:47It was like Chip Kelly was the o.c. there helfrich was.
- 37:50EEOC. Their crystal ball was the o.c.
- 37:53there? They haven't made a true like
- 37:56fire, but they haven't made a troop hire outside of their
- 38:00internal workings. Yes, the nannies.
- 38:03Yeah, which that's not a wild. I mean, go up and look for it.
- 38:09Would it was rich who came there in like 90, Then They Carried
- 38:13pilate and pilate was there for. Like a decade, he brought in
- 38:16chip and it's crazy that that happened.
- 38:19It's crazy that they've been as competitive It-it's phrases that
- 38:23me. They've been able to keep it
- 38:24internal but still have really been relevant.
- 38:27If not damn good the entire time.
- 38:30Yeah. Taggers the only one Taggarts,
- 38:32the only one he lasted one season.
- 38:34That's it. Yep, crazy.
- 38:37Alright. Alright Brian before we get into
- 38:39Know The Enemy for the true hate week.

- 39:09Now back to the episode All right, as I look up here.
- 39:16We are down 1913 1950 1950. Under 10 minutes to go.
- 39:27You have definitely got to be proud of how they're hanging in
- 39:29there. 18:17 store Murphy with the reverse watching.
- 39:34This got a foul here. Oh, that ain't all a file here
- 39:37it is. All right, let's get to it.
- 39:39Braun does the enemy we are playing for the Commonwealth
- 39:43cup. The University of Virginia, hate
- 39:47hate, hate hate, and Brian manic.
- 39:55So, we got to start with their offense, you know, just putting
- 40:00up some unbelievable numbers this year, one of the top teeth
- 40:04offenses in the country, and there ain't no way to downplay
- 40:08that. Now, they've been doing work,
- 40:10man. They've been doing this work and
- 40:12they're led by Brandon Armstrong, the six-foot-two
- 40:15215-pound quarterback out of Shelby Ohio who was a three-star
- 40:18when he came out, believe it or not, originally a Minnesota
- 40:22commit. Oh, and right now he's number
- 40:28three in passing in the country, with missing a full game, 4044
- 40:36yards. Top 10 in touchdowns 30 pick 30
- 40:42touchdowns 9 interception. He also leads the team in
- 40:46rushing attempts definitely, obviously a reason why he was
- 40:51probably injured, but he also has gotten seven touchdowns, 65
- 40:55percent completion. There is like nothing to fill
- 40:59their, what are you seeing on the tape?
- 41:02And you know, what do we have to watch out for?
- 41:05Yeah. Probably the biggest thing and
- 41:07the biggest thing that he's improved in since last year when
- 41:10we saw him, is that decision making a lot quicker with his
- 41:14decision-making knowing where he wants to go to football.
- 41:17And that's the biggest thing that he's improved since last
- 41:20year, really accurate with this passes, especially in the short
- 41:23and intermediate game. And he does a really good job of
- 41:27escaping pressure and throwing on the run.
- 41:29So he's not just a, it's not there, I'm taking off, he does a
- 41:34good job of getting Eating outside the pocket, keeping his
- 41:37eyes, downfield, and throwing and hitting the man in stride.
- 41:40And he can also hurt it hurt us with his legs, design runs, but
- 41:44also scrambles and keepers Yep. And with the rushing he's right
- 41:50at about 300 yards for the year so it's not like he is a Braxton
- 41:58type threat, where you give him a scene, he can take it, 40
- 42:01yards but if you give them a little seam, he's going to make
- 42:04you pay with probably picking up a first down.
- 42:07Yeah. I mean he's a clever system is
- 42:09very similar like Kenny pickets, he's probably maybe just a shade
- 42:12faster. Yeah.
- 42:14But probably not quite as much feel for it as picking has this
- 42:18point. Yeah, he's got to talk about the
- 42:21faster. I think he's quicker to get out
- 42:24where pick it is more in the pocket right in Mobile in the
- 42:27pocket. You see our phones a lot of
- 42:29times if he gets in trouble, he kind of honks outside because
- 42:34essentially probably you know you kind of already made the
- 42:37point you know, he throws good on the Run.
- 42:40Yeah, right. So if I get outside, I trust my
- 42:44arm but if they give me enough of a crease, I'm going to go up
- 42:47and get 45 yards. Yep.
- 42:50So, you know, he's wearing a flak jacket.
- 42:56So need to hit him needed. Making for those injured.
- 43:00Ribs, I don't condone violence but it is strategic now Brian he
- 43:07is throwing to a pretty talented wide receiving Corps or
- 43:13receiving Corps in general. And I want to start with the
- 43:16time TV on Wix wide receiver who was a four-star by 24/7 at a
- 43:21Plaquemine Louisiana 61 210. He did not play in.
- 43:27So even more surprising to see how much he's developed this
- 43:30year with fifty four receptions 1148 yards over 20 per catch.
- 43:39Yeah, that's the big thing, big thing and he's making them pay
- 43:43you know he's scoring a touchdown on just about 16% of
- 43:46every Bali catches. So if you give him ten, he's
- 43:49probably going to catch least one for a touchdown on Saturday,
- 43:53you know? And that 11:48 is top Ten in the
- 43:56country. So he is one of those Elite wide
- 43:59receivers. What is the take?
- 44:01Tell about what he does for Brandon Armstrong.
- 44:04So he's their best deep throat on the team and it's not just
- 44:08throwing it deep to him. He's got really good run after
- 44:10the catch, he's got good speed, great route Runner, seeing him
- 44:15being this polished and Route. Running is pretty impressive for
- 44:19him. And you know when he's in those
- 44:22situations where he matched up against a Defender, he does a
- 44:25good job of High Point in the ball and winning those kind of
- 44:27one-on-one battles. So really kind of the all-around
- 44:30complete receiver that you like, especially the fact that he can
- 44:33do a lot after the catch in turn a quick hitter into a big play.
- 44:39Yep, let me ask you. Is he like, Miami has three and
- 44:51four of them. Is he the only one that you VA
- 44:54has like Miami? Um, yeah.
- 45:01Okay, he's probably the only Elite level player on this
- 45:05group. This group is deeper than Miami,
- 45:09but they are not quite as top-end at every position as
- 45:14Miami. So they've got probably five or
- 45:18six guys that can go out there and produce in a given game, but
- 45:24they've only got one that can really kind of break the game
- 45:28open and that's wigs, got it. All right.
- 45:31Well speaking of one of those other options, they've got Ian
- 45:34to Thompson the football player. I'm sorry that's still these
- 45:39stupidest thing I've ever heard. It's corny, man.
- 45:42Like you know, column OWI offense of wet wipe.
- 45:46Least, you know football player can apply to, you know, me King,
- 45:52does he play offensive line know that he's not a true football
- 45:56player Bronco? You knew he was a Mississippi
- 46:00State transfer and you know him coming out he was a pretty
- 46:04highly coveted quarterback. He was a four-star, a top-five
- 46:08dual threat quarterback and didn't quite pan out.
- 46:14Give him credit. Or being willing to take on
- 46:18something new, we know a lot of players who will not do that but
- 46:22so far this year 244 yards on the ground, averaging over six
- 46:26of Kerry's got 26 pounds. That way, 70 receptions for 882
- 46:32yards, over 12 perceptions, only a couple touch down there.
- 46:38So easy 1,000 from you know scrimmage I'm kind of interested
- 46:43Brian. When you were looking at the
- 46:45tape How did they get him? The ball running.
- 46:50What were they doing? So it was usually out of motion,
- 46:53but sometimes they even line them up in the backfield either
- 46:55in shotgun or like pistol behind the quarterback.
- 46:58So they get him involved a lot of different ways they like to
- 47:02run them up at wide receiver, they'll get him going that way.
- 47:08It's a lot of different ways. They get him involved in the
- 47:10football game. They really kind of use them,
- 47:13mostly as a like a hybrid HVAC wide.
- 47:16That that's probably the most descriptive thing that you can
- 47:19apply to him, okay, but he's got good hands for a guy that wasn't
- 47:26a wide receiver, you're kind of out the gate there.
- 47:28So it's interesting to see how he's progressed from last year,
- 47:34because he's definitely more of a offensive threat this year
- 47:37than he was last year. He was really more of a gadget
- 47:39type player last year. Yeah, again, give give him
- 47:43credit, give them credit for convincing him.
- 47:46To listen, you can be a wide receiver HVAC, does he block any
- 47:53or he does but it's not his it's not his Forte.
- 48:00I'd say, he's average at best but sometimes all you need is a
- 48:05guy to get in the way. And so they usually scheme him
- 48:08in an area where if he gets in the way, he's probably doing
- 48:11most of his job. God.
- 48:13All right. Next we want to talk about?
- 48:16Definitely. Lee is you know probably used a
- 48:21little more in the blocking game.
- 48:23Jelani Woods too tight in six foot seven 275 pounds, the
- 48:27Oklahoma State transfer was a three-star when he came out so
- 48:31far this year. Solid numbers for a Titan, not
- 48:36going crazy or anything 37 receptions, 534 yards, just over
- 48:4014 per reception, seven touchdowns.
- 48:44So obviously, you know, along with Wix definitely a favorite
- 48:50Target as they get down into the Red Zone and for some big pass
- 48:53plays, what is the tape telling us again on these.
- 48:58This is one of those when he was transferring and they saw him
- 49:02boy. On a UVA.
- 49:03I remember we can have conversations like this is a guy
- 49:06that would probably be good for us, but of course.
- 49:11Yeah. And I mean he's kind of the
- 49:12all-around tight in does a really good job with the kind of
- 49:18stick movers, in terms of the receiving threat, they will
- 49:22split them out. They'll do a couple different
- 49:23things with him. He's not just an inline guy and
- 49:27he's an average blocker. So he, you know, they really
- 49:31aren't great in the Run game and he bring a whole lot to that,
- 49:34but he's good enough, where you're going to be, will line
- 49:37him up in line. They will also light him up,
- 49:40split out wide, so I mean really good player but more of a threat
- 49:46in the passing game than being an asset in the running game.
- 49:51Got it. Sorry.
- 49:52Big three-pointer right there from.
- 49:54Who is that from Alan to cut it to three?
- 50:01It's kind of crazy because you would think somebody with that
- 50:03big of a body would be a lot better in Paso.
- 50:08But you also think well he's coming from a big 12 school, how
- 50:10much of the actually use them and doing that, you know, again
- 50:14I would I would have loved to have somebody like this on our
- 50:17team but it is what it is, all right.
- 50:21Braun last piece. We're going to hit here is going
- 50:23to be their running game in their offensive line.
- 50:26They really don't have a one standout running back.
- 50:29Its kind of the quarterback County Thompson and three other
- 50:33guys and it's Wayne Tuttle Papa my columns and Devin Darrington
- 50:40or kind of carrying the weight there and some way.
- 50:45And the offensive line Brian. Not a good pass Pro offensive
- 50:51line, at least based on the stats 121st and sacks allowed at
- 50:563800, 21st and tackles for loss allowed, she the 92nd and
- 51:00tackles for loss of p53 said, they are giving up, you know,
- 51:05roughly a little over nine, you know, behind the line of
- 51:09scrimmage tackles game. Yeah.
- 51:11Motion offense is 97, just about 127 a game.
- 51:15So similar to my Amis numbers. What what what are we can can we
- 51:21get a pass rush in like we did last week we should be able to
- 51:25get a good pass rush. There they'll be there really
- 51:28bad in the in the Run game we kind of talked about it there so
- 51:32bad in the Run game overall a below average unit in past Pro
- 51:37Armstrong, being able to break contain in the pocket, being
- 51:42able to run makes them look even better than they than the
- 51:45numbers show and then they're really bad.
- 51:49Run blocking. you talked about the trio, they're tala, Papa's
- 51:54kind of the Plotter, you'll get them yards, they'll bring in
- 51:59Hollands, its kind of the the mix it up back.
- 52:02He's a little bit more of a kind of one cut and go and that helps
- 52:08them a little bit. But they really most that most
- 52:12everything that they gained in the running game is because of
- 52:16the threat of the passing game. All right, so if the passing
- 52:25game, if we can contain that in the slightest, this isn't like
- 52:29pit or pit. We kind of got that passing game
- 52:33under control but they're good enough.
- 52:35Running the ball where they essentially suck.
- 52:37The cotton dry where special way the offense played that day.
- 52:40We had no chance. They don't have it.
- 52:42A band of Canada, on their team. They don't have an offensive
- 52:45line that can get them to the edge consistently.
- 52:47That that's the two things that pick could still do.
- 52:51All right, so let's take a note of that folks, that if it gets
- 52:55into one of these scrum games and we are somehow shutting down
- 52:59their passing attack. They don't have that to lean
- 53:01back on. Unlike Syracuse, unlike pit and
- 53:04a couple of the losses we got this year.
- 53:07All right, Brian? Let's flip it over to the
- 53:09defensive side of the ball. This defense is bad.
- 53:14Yeah. And in when they hired Bronco
- 53:16Mendenhall, you know, six years ago, Ago.
- 53:21Next week, I thought my first thought was well they're never
- 53:24going to be bad defensively. Their wretched defensively
- 53:29scoring defense hundred and second in the nation they're
- 53:31giving up 32 points a game. Run defense, they're giving up
- 53:35217 yards per game. I like the sound of that.
- 53:39Their Total Defense has 121st uniform 66 so they're giving up
- 53:44another 250 assing. There's one thing they're good
- 53:49at. And it's probably because
- 53:52they've only been down there not as many times as most teams is
- 53:55there red zone. Defense is twenty seventh in the
- 53:59nation you know, 46 trip. They've gone up 35 scores 24 or
- 54:04touchdowns. So they're not like Elite.
- 54:10Yeah, well give it up. 2/3 is touchdowns but kind of Defense.
- 54:16Are they running? And let's talk about Nick
- 54:19Jackson run. Yeah, so let's start with the
- 54:23front. It's a 335 kind of multiple
- 54:26front. They'll go into a 24.
- 54:30Look, they'll go into a 3/4 look.
- 54:33But the base defense is a 335 and this is kind of a change
- 54:38from the previous few years where they were running more of
- 54:40a 3/4 as their base. This is kind of the Bronco
- 54:46Mendenhall like BYU look here, right?
- 54:50Yeah. so it's a little bit different, but in terms of Nick
- 54:56Jackson, he's there inside linebacker and he's really the
- 55:00Probably the better of the two linebackers, he's only average
- 55:03against the Run. He doesn't do a great job of
- 55:05shedding blockers but he is their primary blitzing
- 55:08linebacker when they bring the inside guys and he does a really
- 55:12good job there and he's really above average in their Zone
- 55:15coverage as well so he helps them out in bails them out.
- 55:18A lot of times in seven coverage in Jackson 26 1235 is Bond said
- 55:24linebacker was a high three store.
- 55:26I love. It's cool down in Atlanta.
- 55:29Let me ask this bra. I'm so he's you talk about him
- 55:32being good, on the Bloods, he's got two and a half sacks for a
- 55:35linebacker. That's not a bad number.
- 55:38Another three tackles for loss, why is his tackle number?
- 55:42So good. One of the seven, I mean that's
- 55:45an ungodly amount of tackles is it is it more of him cleaning up
- 55:50or is it more of? He's good in coverage so he's
- 55:54where he's supposed to be all the time.
- 55:57It's a little bit of that the latter there.
- 56:00He's also so he's not as quick to get off blocks with it.
- 56:03Also puts him in a position where if it gets to the second
- 56:06level. Sometimes he's the guy cleaning
- 56:08it up but he's cleaning it up five or six or seven or eight
- 56:11yards. Downfield, not meeting guys in
- 56:14the whole, okay? So it's one of those things
- 56:17where the numbers is he's doing his job but he's just not doing
- 56:21it, he's doing it average to below average.
- 56:24Yeah. Makes exactly.
- 56:27Alright next, I want to hit on here.
- 56:29Brian is Joey blunt the 6 foot 2, 2005 defensive back, he's a
- 56:37myth 3 star. He was at a Landmark Christian
- 56:40and Fairbank or shooting Fairburn Georgia.
- 56:43Seventy seven tackles for loss, really high number, for a
- 56:47safety, three picks along with three past offended.
- 56:52Is he in the box safety or see? Free.
- 56:56So he's there free safety but he ends up.
- 56:58They'll either drop him deep and sometimes they'll bring him in
- 57:01on robber type coverage where he'll be kind of playing
- 57:05underneath and that second level of Defense instead of on the top
- 57:08end he makes some of the the backend issues they have kind of
- 57:14go away a little bit so that helps but he does also come on
- 57:21blitzes but he does if he ever gets matched up in man Relations
- 57:25he does get beat so they try to not match him up in man very
- 57:30often but when he's in zone he's a pretty good Defender.
- 57:37So one of those thing I would say, if we had a pretty good
- 57:41passing offense, like, let's go for wide and force him to come
- 57:45down, or force them to go to, some sort of dime package where
- 57:49they're taking one of their better linebackers off the field
- 57:51but obviously we can't do that. So can you run at him?
- 57:58You can, he's actually pretty good against the Run.
- 58:01He does a good job with tackling so that's the big thing.
- 58:04Sometimes he will miss a fit sometimes you'll guess wrong
- 58:08things like that but he does a good job overall of being where
- 58:12it needs to be. Alright good deal on that, let's
- 58:15go quickly let's get into the trenches here Brian let's talk
- 58:18about Mandy Mandy Alonzo, a 6-foot to 290-pound defensive
- 58:24lineman, a two-star coming out of Miami Florida so far this
- 58:30season. He's got three sacks.
- 58:31He's got six additional tackles for loss. 30 tackles.
- 58:37And I know when they put my see, six foot two ninety.
- 58:40I merely want to say he's somewhere on the inside but when
- 58:44I hear 33 stack, I mean, is he playing like a nose or is he
- 58:48kind of moving up and down the line?
- 58:51He's that DM but he's also the one of the guys that staying in,
- 58:54if they go to that that to felt that 24 looks so, you know, when
- 58:59you think of the n and a three-man front, you're getting
- 59:02a heavier Guy usually somewhere between the two 82 to 90 range,
- 59:05sometimes, even heavier depending on the scheme and he
- 59:09does where he the most balanced defensive lineman that they use
- 59:13his, he can play inside, and outside, depending on which
- 59:17front they're going with, he's their best, even surviving
- 59:20against the run and he really shows a good motor in the in the
- 59:25pass game as well. So I think that's a big thing to
- 59:28look out for. Is that he will get after the
- 59:30quarterback too. Yeah, obviously three sex.
- 59:34I think that might actually lead their team.
- 59:37We pull it up here real quick just to show you how bad the
- 59:40defense is. Yes, he is leading the team with
- 59:46three sacks. So when you talk about is he
- 59:51playing like a for technique primarily Games, you played
- 59:56primarily a for they'll slide him into a 3.
- 1:00:00If they go with it to man front, okay, he's primarily in a for
- 1:00:05they'll slam him inside and out there.
- 1:00:08All right, so last person I want to talk about Is Anthony Johnson
- 1:00:13primarily because the potential of not having trade Turner, but
- 1:00:17I wanted to look at Anthony Johnson, Bryant six-foot-one,
- 1:00:21205 pounds, so far three interceptions this year, 41
- 1:00:25tackles two tackles for loss for past defended.
- 1:00:29He was a Louisville Transfer low.
- 1:00:32Three-star. Very low three-star.
- 1:00:34Only came out from Shah mardan from xiamen on.
- 1:00:37Everybody should know shaman on Maui.
- 1:00:40Invitational is on this week. If you haven't seen In xiamen on
- 1:00:42play. They're usually terrible Madonna
- 1:00:45High School in Hollywood Florida.
- 1:00:48So is he their best corner or is he just an inside type guy?
- 1:00:55Yeah, he's their best cover corner.
- 1:00:57He does a really good job in zone in particular.
- 1:01:02He does a good job of breaking on the ball.
- 1:01:04Reacting he will get beaten man but he's not necessarily a
- 1:01:11liability. The up there either he'll win
- 1:01:15some lose some. So that's an opportunity.
- 1:01:17We have to kind of take advantage of them in coverage.
- 1:01:20There's is maybe attack him when we see man.
- 1:01:26So I'm assuming this is going to be super important for try to
- 1:01:29come back then. Yeah, I think it will struggle.
- 1:01:34If we don't have this, we have him matched up majority entree,
- 1:01:38that'll give some of the other guys, some opportunities in this
- 1:01:41passing game. Mmmmm and we should still be
- 1:01:42able to pass on them regardless, but having tray in there would
- 1:01:46definitely be a big benefit. That's what I thought in before
- 1:01:52we flip over to the Lambda version of the Hokies.
- 1:01:54It is a one point game as we're getting to the end of the half
- 1:01:57here, that is an offensive foul, but it did not get called all
- 1:02:03it. They've had a quick whistle and
- 1:02:08everything else and now they're you swallow the whistle of his
- 1:02:11last minute for no reason. Like he barreled into him.
- 1:02:14That was hilarious. Like I mean they're you know,
- 1:02:17they still took that bad of a shot.
- 1:02:18Holy cow what a hit. You got two possessions therein
- 1:02:22and took that shot that was like a full seven or eight inches.
- 1:02:26Short of the rim. That's terrible.
- 1:02:29All right, so let's flip to the Lambda version brine, this isn't
- 1:02:32the Lambda version this week, Braun.
- 1:02:35The final version of the year and I forgot to update it.
- 1:02:39This is not Lambda. I do not want the land of
- 1:02:41urgent. We show the fucking Lambda
- 1:02:42version. We're going to lose this guy.
- 1:02:45We really just freaking game. We don't want that one.
- 1:02:47We do not want that one. So this week.
- 1:02:50Last but not least, this is the movie version.
- 1:02:53The movie version, And Brian, let's start with the offense.
- 1:02:59We were in the ball 30 times with our quarterbacks last week.
- 1:03:02Yeah, can't do that. So, what's Point number one,
- 1:03:06that if Brad core Nelson actually had any Common Sense he
- 1:03:09do, Well, the big thing you want to do is you want to run the
- 1:03:15ball with your running backs. You know, the guys that you
- 1:03:21recruit to run the football, that's what you want, broken 100
- 1:03:26in the last month. Yeah, really good.
- 1:03:29ACC running back of the week, the previous week before you
- 1:03:31gave him three carries. Three carries since we've
- 1:03:41already shown. They are terrible against the
- 1:03:43Run, dip. I think potentially, if this
- 1:03:48team runs the ball like we have at points this year, I think we
- 1:03:52can break 300. If we break 300 this game is
- 1:03:56going to be a game in the 20s. Yeah, they're going to be
- 1:03:59nervous. Yeah, this game is all about
- 1:04:03extending our drives and keeping their offense off the field and
- 1:04:07getting touchdowns when we need to get them.
- 1:04:09So, something we saw last week, Brian, and both guys made some
- 1:04:15extremely good plays. Jalen Jones Dwayne Lofton.
- 1:04:20They can't lose their red shirt. So what do we want?
- 1:04:24Get them in the game, get them involved, get the youth
- 1:04:27involved. You know, we've already got
- 1:04:31some, some uptick in that last week.
- 1:04:34Let's see, more of that this week.
- 1:04:37Let's kind of pull out all the stops with the youth.
- 1:04:40Get them out there if they're, you know, playing well in
- 1:04:43practice, get them out there. Let's see what they can do.
- 1:04:46We need all hands on deck. Yep.
- 1:04:49And they showed last week, they're ready for big moments.
- 1:04:52The Wayne Lofton with the touchdown catch.
- 1:04:55And with that fourth down, conversion, catch in Jalen
- 1:04:57Jones, over the middle showing no fear.
- 1:04:59You POP, hold onto the ball, getting a big first down.
- 1:05:04And if I, it's going to be one of those things to where if we
- 1:05:09don't see them, I think us as a fan base on Saturday afternoon
- 1:05:12or just going to just get a little more in Greek, like these
- 1:05:15guys showed you they could do it.
- 1:05:16Yeah. Now you're pulling them off the
- 1:05:18field because I think some of the sets you can go with with
- 1:05:22Jones with Lofton with teh with Caleb with tray.
- 1:05:26You could give them some real problems.
- 1:05:28So So attack them. Yep, I mentioned it earlier, the
- 1:05:33one good thing UVA is they are decent red zone defense team.
- 1:05:37We have to have some big plays. Yeah, we're gonna have to score
- 1:05:41from outside the 20 at least a couple times here.
- 1:05:44So we need some big plays that turn into points.
- 1:05:48Now, the honest truth is, if you've watched them play this
- 1:05:50year, they can surrender them don't dip.
- 1:05:53It ain't like they're lighting the world up.
- 1:05:55They can surrender those big plays.
- 1:05:57So, I think popping it. Like you said, I think at least
- 1:06:01two, I think, if we get to, it's going to be a competitive game.
- 1:06:06I think if we get more than two, I think they could be in a world
- 1:06:10of hurt. Because if we're popping a
- 1:06:12couple big running plays off, and we get a one big passing
- 1:06:15play. I know, it favors into the wood.
- 1:06:18Into the 30s kind of favors them.
- 1:06:20Well, the issue is if we're running the ball like that,
- 1:06:23there's going to be some drives where we stand, right?
- 1:06:25Yep, we're going to pop some. We're going to have extended
- 1:06:28drives and eventually Their defense is going to be done and
- 1:06:34if that comes to case where it's late in the game, and it's a tie
- 1:06:38game and you're just running the ball at will just run, slow the
- 1:06:42tempo down yet, one slow the tempo down, run slow the tempo
- 1:06:46down, where you're going to force Armstrong, who has at
- 1:06:49times can make errors. All right one last piece here
- 1:06:54Braun, it was the big killer last week and it was against a
- 1:06:59defense who wasn't that good? We're against a defense.
- 1:07:01And again is not that good at second, the quarterback.
- 1:07:04Yeah, if we can limit the - plays and limits acts, then we
- 1:07:10should be able to put some points on this board on the this
- 1:07:13team and move the ball. Well, they don't sack the
- 1:07:16quarterback much, they don't throw folks return of tackles
- 1:07:19for loss. We can't let something that's
- 1:07:21their weakness. Turn into any sort of asset to
- 1:07:23them in this game. Yep.
- 1:07:25It's essentially what we did for Miami.
- 1:07:28And yes, it's a 3826 game, but some of those plays where it
- 1:07:33looked like we were going to get the ball moving.
- 1:07:35We took a big sack which living Echo for loss and it slowed, the
- 1:07:39momentum down and it's one of those weird things, right?
- 1:07:43Well, they're not good at it, but they had they had a lucky, a
- 1:07:46know, when a team has a lucky game like that, it's essentially
- 1:07:50on you to not let the worst part of their game, become a
- 1:07:54strength. Yep, we're going into this game
- 1:07:57where we thought. All right, Brian, let's talk
- 1:07:59about defense. Now, we're going into this game,
- 1:08:01Thinking, look at the Miami game.
- 1:08:04Why we predicted the game are back in.
- 1:08:06Had been solid all year the way we mixed coverages and
- 1:08:08everything. Yep, there were two games.
- 1:08:12We discussed right before we got on here, if we have preferences
- 1:08:17on the backend of Miami and Syracuse, we're not winning this
- 1:08:19game. We are not winning this game.
- 1:08:23You take any other other nine games and I know West Virginia.
- 1:08:27We got burned. Times in every game we got
- 1:08:29burned a couple times but overall the back ended played
- 1:08:33well, what do we have to do for on?
- 1:08:37Gotta go back to the coverages that we've seen have success
- 1:08:40against this type of offense. Really?
- 1:08:43I mean, if we want to look at a mirror, let's look at how we
- 1:08:45played against Pitt and try to replicate that because pit tries
- 1:08:50to do a lot of the same type of things in the passing game that
- 1:08:53you ba does and has a similar type of quarterback that has
- 1:08:57that athleticism, but also good at sling, it downfield, good in
- 1:09:02the intermediate game. So need to try to mirror some of
- 1:09:06that. That definitely less cover to
- 1:09:09than we saw last week. Let's cover to burn cover to.
- 1:09:15Yeah, burn it. The only time we need to be
- 1:09:18playing covered to is if we're up like 17.
- 1:09:23Like truly for up 17. Please that then you can call a
- 1:09:27cover to you know some else Brian last week.
- 1:09:32If we go back and look at you compared to last week I felt
- 1:09:35like on Duke and I know they had a Young quarterback and they're
- 1:09:37not a good team. We brought a lot more pressure.
- 1:09:41Yeah. You definitely sitting back more
- 1:09:45against Miami. I feel like this is one of those
- 1:09:47where if you can press the issue with the quarter back a little
- 1:09:50bit and make them make some mistakes.
- 1:09:51I think that that plays in your favor.
- 1:09:54I know he can sling it around, but if you're not getting to him
- 1:09:58with with for you need to try something else because I'd much
- 1:10:01rather maybe have some sort of vacated area in the defense but
- 1:10:08Rush the quarterback. Then not rush the quarterback.
- 1:10:12Let him sit back and find all those windows.
- 1:10:15Yeah, we mentioned his athleticism.
- 1:10:17He has a little bit but his athleticism isn't going to be
- 1:10:21gaining massive chunks every time.
- 1:10:24Yeah, I think the risk is worth the reward.
- 1:10:27I think the risk of him potentially getting 7 to 12
- 1:10:31yards on a broken play. Is worth the reward of sacking
- 1:10:36him three, four times, getting them well behind the sticks
- 1:10:40making as the coverage you like that Cameron's best.
- 1:10:43As we were on that quarters coverage.
- 1:10:45Letting let's get into its third and 15 getting quarters.
- 1:10:49Getting quarters long across the field.
- 1:10:52Cover for cover sticks, do it, do it.
- 1:10:55Alright, next piece on defense brine And you tell me what you
- 1:11:02meant by this because this was a couple days ago we talked about
- 1:11:04mixing up the underneath coverages.
- 1:11:06Explain that again. Like what do you want to see?
- 1:11:09And when I'm thinking this is going to be linebackers tamari
- 1:11:15in maybe whoever's playing Rover.
- 1:11:17Yeah, yeah. I want to make sure that we're
- 1:11:20running some man with those underneath guys.
- 1:11:22I want to see that we're bringing some of the safeties
- 1:11:26into the box into that second level of coverage instead of
- 1:11:29Having them deep. I want to keep Armstrong
- 1:11:32guessing about not knowing, who is defending, what areas of Zone
- 1:11:36who's Manning up on, who the more we can keep him.
- 1:11:39Guessing the more, he can't just hit those intermediate routes
- 1:11:44and we'll, all right. What about the whole?
- 1:11:49I think I mentioned this to you the other day about sometimes,
- 1:11:52sending the blitz enforcing the throws over the middle.
- 1:11:56Like are you okay? I think would have been a Okay,
- 1:11:59with Miami with Van Dyke, are you okay?
- 1:12:01With Them having to put together eight to ten yard eight to ten
- 1:12:07plate drives. Yeah, I mean, the more we can
- 1:12:10force them to have to drive the field of more, they could
- 1:12:13potentially make some mistakes and give us the ball back, or
- 1:12:17stop a drive. That ends short of scoring range
- 1:12:20or ends in three instead of six. I mean, that's really what
- 1:12:23you're trying to do here. All right, so so when you're
- 1:12:28talking about the underneath stuff it's more of since we try
- 1:12:32to give them a confusing look button.
- 1:12:34I guess in some cases if we're giving you the middle of the
- 1:12:38field take the middle of the field.
- 1:12:41You get six yard, we tackle you but you have to throw again,
- 1:12:45you're not getting 16, you're not getting 26 downfield.
- 1:12:48Well and if you're going to again, you show them one thing
- 1:12:51that that drive you give up six, then you show them something
- 1:12:54different. The Very next play and now he's
- 1:12:57thinking more. So I think that's what you want
- 1:12:59to do, you know? Don't don't, don't get
- 1:13:02comfortable with one look on those underneath guys.
- 1:13:05Mix it up so he's not sure what you're throwing at it next and
- 1:13:09there you know 8 x 10 are going to be throwing the ball.
- 1:13:13So yep it's true because we've already said it they don't have
- 1:13:19a really good run game and much like the way we ended the
- 1:13:22defensive section we're going to in the offensive We cannot let
- 1:13:26this run game hurt us. Yep.
- 1:13:28This one game needs to be at 120, their average or below?
- 1:13:34Yep. Absolutely.
- 1:13:36You can't let something that is a weakness of your opponent,
- 1:13:40become an asset. And we said it with the with the
- 1:13:43offensive side for us, got to limit the, the Saxon - please.
- 1:13:49Same on defense can let the Run game hurt.
- 1:13:52You can't let them average over 4.5 yards.
- 1:13:55A carry, keep them at or below their average, which I believe
- 1:13:58is what 4.3 yet. So keep them below that.
- 1:14:03Keep them behind the sticks. If they decide to run the ball,
- 1:14:07make them pay for it by having to throw the ball further the
- 1:14:09next down. Yeah.
- 1:14:11And again I think another thing for us to is is going to be the
- 1:14:15passing game when it comes to the offense.
- 1:14:18We're averaging about 180. I think, if we get over 200
- 1:14:23passing to go with 250 plus rushing, I think we win this
- 1:14:28game. Yeah, and let's flip to it.
- 1:14:32Brian. Let slip through the
- 1:14:33predictions. You know.
- 1:14:38It's going to be really funny. Regardless, what happened?
- 1:14:40Saturday? Justin for went days, gone.
- 1:14:43And it essentially, the worst six-year run.
- 1:14:47Yep. Virginia Tech football since we
- 1:14:51were basically This Tall. Yep.
- 1:14:54You might have been this tall. I was probably just tell you
- 1:14:56were probably a little tired. They've only be this once it
- 1:15:02pull out the win. Saturday be this twice.
- 1:15:06They celebrate but we get to laugh and say we got rid of the
- 1:15:09problem but for the life of me Brian I can't do it.
- 1:15:15I can't pick them. I don't know what to be able to
- 1:15:18pick them and I'm going to say it is going to be a war with
- 1:15:22them. I think the defense holds a few
- 1:15:25times and I think in the end with about 40 seconds left
- 1:15:33Malachi Thomas punches one in from about eight yards out.
- 1:15:38To take the lead, 3534. I think we're going to wear that
- 1:15:43defense down. We're late in the game.
- 1:15:45We're going to run at will and we're going to be able to milk
- 1:15:47the clock with about six or seven minutes left when they
- 1:15:50can't stop it. They're going to know it's over.
- 1:15:53Yep I'm with that. I'm really close to you.
- 1:15:56I'm actually 34-31 Hokies. I think this is one where they
- 1:16:01take the lead. We get a Lake Drive.
- 1:16:03We stick it in for a touchdown late to retake the lead.
- 1:16:07They're not able to do it. Do anything with the time left.
- 1:16:10Yep. In the end, I think the team's
- 1:16:13up, I think just listening to the players talk.
- 1:16:17I think the team is up for this week.
- 1:16:19I think JC price is going to have them up.
- 1:16:22Yeah. And um it's going to be a war.
- 1:16:27It's going to be a war. I don't know what the stadium is
- 1:16:29going to. Like, that's going to be the
- 1:16:30interesting piece is 345, I got asked by someone was, I was I
- 1:16:34going up Saturday side. If you are dominated up there.
- 1:16:47Alright, Braun. We got to pick some games here,
- 1:16:49for we close out tonight. Last week, Brian, are we
- 1:16:54counting the UVA game? I need to know.
- 1:17:00Let's count it. Let's count.
- 1:17:02As I said that Armstrong was going to play and he did.
- 1:17:05So I can't really say that we should not count it.
- 1:17:08All right, you went five and six island 7 and 4 because I am
- 1:17:13counting the Marshal UNCC game, which we both got right now.
- 1:17:18Brian 5259 one for the are summe 5952.
- 1:17:22And one for the year, I'm 64 44 in one for the year.
- 1:17:27And we're going to do, it's a lot of rivalry games this week.
- 1:17:30We're going to do 11 games and let's start Brian.
- 1:17:33U NC NC State Saturday. If you need Friday, NC State
- 1:17:38Lane six points. What do you think on this game?
- 1:17:43Excuse me. I'm sorry.
- 1:17:45I've got the honor, Donna. Yo, for these big guy you're
- 1:17:50good. I'm going to take NC State.
- 1:17:52I think you can see State just a better overall team.
- 1:17:55I think it's going to be a competitive game.
- 1:17:57I think NC State wins by 10. They probably went somewhere
- 1:18:00like 3424 3828, but I think if we see Carolina, when you have a
- 1:18:07decent defense, Things. Don't go great for them.
- 1:18:12Yeah, I'm with that. I think it's going to be NC
- 1:18:16State as well. I think it's going to be a
- 1:18:18touchdown. It's going to be a one of those
- 1:18:21tight covers there but I think NC State takes care of it.
- 1:18:24I still don't know what to think about this UNC team.
- 1:18:26It's one of the most baffling teams I've seen just because of
- 1:18:31their talent, their offensive ability but their inability to
- 1:18:36do it well against good defenses and do it.
- 1:18:39Consent do it, do it consistently enough, where, you
- 1:18:43know, if they're facing a team that has a decent offense, that
- 1:18:45they can overcome that because their defense is pretty bad.
- 1:18:49All right, in Friday, 7:00 for that game.
- 1:18:52Let's go to the next one. Braun BC versus wake.
- 1:18:55Wake plan for everything wake wins.
- 1:18:58They are in the ACC Championship game, they lose.
- 1:19:03It's a bunch of other stuff. It's either NC State or Clemson.
- 1:19:06Yep. Wake is a five-point Road,
- 1:19:10favorite up at BC. What do you think on this one?
- 1:19:14Ron. I went with fake last week and
- 1:19:17they let me down. I'm going to go with wake again,
- 1:19:18though. I think they closed it out.
- 1:19:20I think they end up taking care of business this week, a lot
- 1:19:24better than they did last week and I think they get about 10
- 1:19:26Point Victory here. Yep.
- 1:19:30I'm with you on that Alma specially after BC last week.
- 1:19:35They let me down against FSU, they made FS you look super
- 1:19:39relevant again. So I don't think you know I
- 1:19:43think five is like that perfect number.
- 1:19:45I think it's about a touchdown game, probably like 2821 maybe a
- 1:19:49little higher but jerker vich I think jirka bitch is kind of
- 1:19:53becoming a story. He's definitely, he's definitely
- 1:19:56got to come back next year. It sucks for him because I think
- 1:19:59if he plays a full year and has a good season, I think that guys
- 1:20:02in the NFL next year, but in this case, I'm going to
- 1:20:05definitely take wake on this one.
- 1:20:07Have all this one's going to be fun right here.
- 1:20:09Behind clean old-fashioned hate. In Atlanta where it will
- 1:20:16probably be more red and black than gold and blue as Georgia
- 1:20:21Tech takes on Georgia this line. First of all the over-under is
- 1:20:2654. Okay.
- 1:20:29Okay. The line is George Elaine 35.
- 1:20:37So someone is predicting the Georgia Tech's.
- 1:20:40Going to get 10 points. Yeah, I don't see that happen.
- 1:20:44I know this is one of those legal limit is much as you've
- 1:20:49got. Put your mortgage on it.
- 1:20:52Georgia is going to win by 50. Yeah.
- 1:20:56This should be close at all. Ugh.
- 1:20:58All the way. Yeah. 35 is just not enough.
- 1:21:03Georgia Tech. They played like shit last
- 1:21:06weekend Saturday night, I mean, absolute shit.
- 1:21:09Yeah. You got a team that's coming in
- 1:21:11here prepping to get ready? They're going to get rough
- 1:21:13housed. All right, Brian, let's go down
- 1:21:20to the swamp. A fire Dan Mullen, Florida is
- 1:21:24still a two and a half Point. Favorite verses FSU does the
- 1:21:29firing. Spell the tribes up because you
- 1:21:33know get the Gators going. This is for Bowl eligibility.
- 1:21:36Winner goes to a bowl, loser does not Yeah man, I like FSU
- 1:21:43here. Call me crazy.
- 1:21:44They are playing some good ball right now.
- 1:21:48They're not great, but they're good enough and I think that's
- 1:21:52what's going to kind of get them over the edge here.
- 1:21:55Their front is going to eat that Florida, offensive lineup, I
- 1:21:58think that's going to be the difference.
- 1:22:00It absolutely is. I'm with you, we're agreeing on
- 1:22:03everything bonds not being able to play catch-up.
- 1:22:05But, you know, it's better to be right than to just be.
- 1:22:11A just to be contrary in, right? I can catch up and bowls these
- 1:22:17when we pick them all. Yeah, championship week 2, you
- 1:22:19can just go opposite every game on championship week and every
- 1:22:22game in the bowl and there we go.
- 1:22:27So I'm with you FSU. I think the the fire and Mullen
- 1:22:31I think that's at the time the timing it is and they're going
- 1:22:36through a complete rebuild, a lot of the guys that own that
- 1:22:39you know, coaching standpoint going to be.
- 1:22:40Coming back. So if Florida State's getting
- 1:22:43points, give me that alright Duke Miami.
- 1:22:49This game is going to be at Duke that's going to be.
- 1:22:53It's going to be a great visual site there 21's not enough.
- 1:22:59I don't know, I mean, I know my name is not great defensively
- 1:23:03but over under of 67 or 68, 68 you're telling me juice going to
- 1:23:08get to the mid-20s on. Them know, you know.
- 1:23:15Miami wins the game 49. 1421 is way, way, way, way too little
- 1:23:22too late. Yeah, 100% with that.
- 1:23:27I think this is going to be probably a four score game, so
- 1:23:33I'm going to go buy a me here as well.
- 1:23:35Duke is bad. Bad bad.
- 1:23:40All right. This is going to be an
- 1:23:41interesting Braun. The fighting Shane Beamers who
- 1:23:44got Bowl eligible. Last week the South Carolina
- 1:23:47clean. It's come off.
- 1:23:48Clemson with obviously their best game of the year.
- 1:23:52I'm going to make sure this line hasn't changed because this is a
- 1:23:54big line. Clemson is lane 11 and a half.
- 1:23:58The game is, and at South Carolina, the over-under is 43.
- 1:24:03Who are you taking here? Man, this is a tough one because
- 1:24:09change got them competitive Clemson's.
- 1:24:14Finally, playing some good football.
- 1:24:16Last couple weeks, at least as good as they've been this whole
- 1:24:20season since in Georgia. Yeah, yeah.
- 1:24:25So I'm going to go with, I'm gonna go with Gamecocks.
- 1:24:34All right. Ron's going with the cocks who's
- 1:24:39Clemson playing good, especially as good as that defense is.
- 1:24:44I am going to go Clemson. I think Clemson probably was
- 1:24:46about 14 Clemson's offense. Gotten a little bit of a pocket.
- 1:24:52Last week instance, what usually a solid week defense, we've seen
- 1:24:56holes it. Times.
- 1:24:57Yeah. All South Carolina just, you
- 1:25:01know, the one thing they don't do good is they give up close
- 1:25:07to, you know, over 170 rushing yards a game.
- 1:25:11I think that's going to be their struggles.
- 1:25:14They also are a team that is not good on third Downs.
- 1:25:18So I think Clemson wins because the South Carolina defense isn't
- 1:25:23as good as it needs to be, okay, you think that over unders about
- 1:25:26Outright. I think it's like a 2814 gay,
- 1:25:28but I'm going to go Clemson on this one.
- 1:25:31All right, battle for the Bluegrass State, UK versus
- 1:25:35Louisville, Louisville is laying three.
- 1:25:38I have no clue. Hallelujah, playing three.
- 1:25:41We've seen Kentucky compete with with Georgia.
- 1:25:44They've only got three losses. Louisville has been such an up
- 1:25:50and down team. I am going to go Kentucky in
- 1:25:52this game. Yeah, I'm right there with you.
- 1:25:57I think Louisville has been potent offensive ly, but I think
- 1:26:02Kentucky between the what they do with the, with their defense
- 1:26:09is going to make make that Louisville offense struggle.
- 1:26:11So, all right, this is one of those plastic ACC rivalry games
- 1:26:18and X. Brian, Pit versus Syracuse in
- 1:26:24the dome pit, Lane 13, Syracuse fighting for Bowl, eligibility.
- 1:26:29Piss locked up the coast of going to the ACC Championship
- 1:26:31Game pit. Can I say this?
- 1:26:34Yeah, I know, dude. He's been there seven years.
- 1:26:37This is his first chance at a ten win season ever there.
- 1:26:43That's wow. Is that what you want to be as a
- 1:26:46program? Do you want to beep it?
- 1:26:48No. Good to know.
- 1:26:51So are you laying? Are you taking?
- 1:27:00I'll take pit. I'll take B, I think that gets
- 1:27:05it done. Just how it's hard to tell with
- 1:27:10Syracuse what teams on the show up.
- 1:27:12Yeah, and if they can't get going with Sean Tucker, if he
- 1:27:15doesn't have a day in which he is satisfied with his
- 1:27:20performance, then it could be a struggle bus for them.
- 1:27:25It's very true. And I'm going to take pit as
- 1:27:28well. And it's not so much that
- 1:27:29they've got everything locked up and they, they're obviously the
- 1:27:32better team but this is kind of what if your pit you
- 1:27:37legitimately? We have a chance to win the ACC.
- 1:27:42Robbie, thank you. They literally have a chance to,
- 1:27:49you know, win the ACC. This team has not won a
- 1:27:55conference title in over 15 years.
- 1:27:59Excuse me. Over 10 years when they won the
- 1:28:02Big East is the Big East will slowly dissolve and it's been
- 1:28:04over 10 years. So I think in our doozy is going
- 1:28:09to say keep the hammer down. We need to go into whoever we're
- 1:28:11playing next week with a good mentality.
- 1:28:15Good. But menem.
- 1:28:16Yeah, we don't we don't need, we don't need to crap the bed
- 1:28:19against Syracuse and, you know, go to lose.
- 1:28:22So I'm going to take that as well.
- 1:28:24All right, Brian, let's jump out of conference here and let's go.
- 1:28:28Art with a Thursday night game. One of the most heated
- 1:28:31rivalries, in any state, the Egg Bowl Mississippi State vs Ole
- 1:28:36Miss Mississippi, state is a two point favorite in this game.
- 1:28:42Essentially, they are saying these teams are even in the
- 1:28:46cowbell. We need more cow bell is get me
- 1:28:50difference. That's what it sounds like, but
- 1:28:54I'm going with the the fighting Lane kiffin is here.
- 1:28:59I am too because I think Ole Miss is a better overall team on
- 1:29:03both sides of the ball. Now I will say this, the
- 1:29:06over-under 64, I think that's going to go way way way over.
- 1:29:13Yeah, the last game of the season, although both teams are
- 1:29:16Bowl eligible, they're playing for the a I think both these
- 1:29:20coaches are going to pull out all the stops.
- 1:29:25Give me the over beginni Ole Miss to win this.
- 1:29:27S game, give me the extra two points.
- 1:29:30Alright alright next rivalry game.
- 1:29:33There's a pretty big one to Oklahoma Oklahoma State in
- 1:29:37Stillwater. With the paddles it is bedlam.
- 1:29:41Okey state is in the championship game.
- 1:29:45Regardless. Oklahoma must win to get there
- 1:29:48to play Oklahoma State again. If Oklahoma State wins, they
- 1:29:51play Baylor, okey State, seven in the most recent college
- 1:29:56football, playoff They beat Oklahoma beat Baylor again and
- 1:30:00just one or two things happens in front of them.
- 1:30:02They sneak in. I think Oklahoma state is the
- 1:30:06better overall team. They're definitely the better
- 1:30:09defense so I'm going to stick on this, I'm gonna go Okie state.
- 1:30:14I'm gonna lay the Four Points. Just because they're fine for
- 1:30:21everything where Oklahoma so much has to happen.
- 1:30:25They have to win win, and have to jump multiple teams.
- 1:30:29And I don't think they can jump. Notre Dame.
- 1:30:31I think he's taken. Yeah, I think I'll put I'll put
- 1:30:37a key state in there as well. Oklahoma has just been so up and
- 1:30:41down and I think when they play good defense as they tend to
- 1:30:43struggle. So I think that's what's going
- 1:30:45to be the difference. Yeah, we saw that against Baylor
- 1:30:49very good solid defense. They struggled all game long.
- 1:30:53All right, Brian? So the biggest game this weekend
- 1:30:56is the de facto elimination game in the playoff.
- 1:30:59It's two versus five. It is the big game.
- 1:31:05Michigan, Ohio State in the big house. 12 noon, kick.
- 1:31:09I wish it was later. I really do.
- 1:31:12I know foxes pushing the big moon stuff but that game
- 1:31:15deserves to be a 3:30. To me, honestly, I know it's
- 1:31:20never been played at night, that game deserves to be an 8:00.
- 1:31:23Yeah, yeah. Ohio State after the throttling
- 1:31:30of Michigan, state is only laying 8 points.
- 1:31:33What do you think on this one, Braun?
- 1:31:36I'm going to take Michigan here. I think this is going to be it's
- 1:31:41going to be tight coming down to the wire.
- 1:31:43I'm not sure if Michigan is going to win outright, but I
- 1:31:46think this is going to come down to one possession.
- 1:31:48I think that Michigan team is going to do enough to slow down
- 1:31:53the the squad they're from from Ohio State.
- 1:31:57Those the triplets won't be able to just completely go off like
- 1:32:00they have all season. So Give me Michigan here.
- 1:32:05Sorry if you feel me, do this. And look a little sad as a wide
- 1:32:07open, jumper rimmed in and rimmed out.
- 1:32:10Hokies down five right now I'm going to take Ohio State.
- 1:32:14I am going to think this is going to be a more competitive
- 1:32:17game that it has been the last few years with Michigan.
- 1:32:20Their offense looks like I think they can keep up with Ohio State
- 1:32:25Defense kind of becoming a modern defense.
- 1:32:27Not as much man little Zone here and there but I think in in the
- 1:32:32end Ohio, It's offense, is clicking and I think they win
- 1:32:36the game somewhere like 40. So we're like 40 to 30 words a
- 1:32:41fight to the end, but it's just a little bit more.
- 1:32:45Like they put one late and put it away.
- 1:32:47So I hope to get out of state. I'll say this out, that's the
- 1:32:50one game. I'm hope I'm wrong about ice to
- 1:32:55feel loved Jim Harbaugh from my Matters from my miners.
- 1:32:59So, yeah. So, there goes that guys, we did
- 1:33:02a disagree on a few Ames anything breaking Brandon body
- 1:33:06entered the portal. The game is a five-point game.
- 1:33:10He's got a bullshit call on somebody, I missed.
- 1:33:14Your was, let's see who it is. Here.
- 1:33:17Heave Oh, you're way ahead of me.
- 1:33:23What five-point game the Hokies are in.
- 1:33:28Definitely in this game. Can we just say with this game?
- 1:33:32And just the way, the acc's looked Back down to three the
- 1:33:38way this game is looked and as athletic as many talented
- 1:33:41players, as Memphis has the Hokies being right there.
- 1:33:45I think this feels really good things for the ACC schedule.
- 1:33:48Yeah, yeah. Especially considering the
- 1:33:51length that Memphis plays with. We're not going to see very many
- 1:33:57teams like this on the schedule. So I think that's one thing to
- 1:34:02look at and they haven't really crushed Us in the, the
- 1:34:06dribble-drive game either. So it's got really two things to
- 1:34:11kind of hang your hat on because Really, that was doubt, that
- 1:34:15should be the two things that we struggle with along with, with
- 1:34:18rebounding, and rebounding hasn't been great.
- 1:34:21But overall they've hung in there in the other categories.
- 1:34:25Very true. And I know they were talking
- 1:34:28about Duran. Only has two points now, he only
- 1:34:30has two points. So, you know, very interesting
- 1:34:33to see that. So folks, go enjoy the rest of
- 1:34:36the game. We thank you for joining us
