- 0:33Speaker 3: Welcome back to another episode of the Mixed Company Podcast.
- 0:36Speaker 3: Of course, I'm one of your hosts, Jamison Wils and
- 0:39Speaker 3: as always I'm joining my the classy alcoholic Classy.
- 0:42Speaker 2: What's going on man, Jamison?
- 0:44Speaker 4: I am still riding high today, not just from all
- 0:47Speaker 4: the whiskey I had before the show, but from our
- 0:49Speaker 4: previous episode. If you were a new listener, two weeks ago,
- 0:53Speaker 4: we had an amazing interview with a boxing promoter former
- 0:56Speaker 4: professional fighter named Bobby Hits. We've been getting some great
- 0:59Speaker 4: feedback on the episode because Bobby was so fun to
- 1:02Speaker 4: have on the show. He had a wealth of knowledge
- 1:04Speaker 4: from his years as a promoter, and also he was
- 1:06Speaker 4: really funny and a total showman on the podcast. So
- 1:10Speaker 4: if you haven't done it, So if you haven't done it,
- 1:13Speaker 4: do yourself a favor. Go back and check out episode
- 1:15Speaker 4: twenty of our show. You won't regret it. Love Bobby Hitson.
- 1:19Speaker 2: I would love.
- 1:20Speaker 4: To have him back as well for the future because
- 1:22Speaker 4: he was phenomenal. But today, yeah, today, we welcome you
- 1:26Speaker 4: all to episode twenty one. Our show is officially old
- 1:29Speaker 4: enough to drink, so we're celebrating by taking it to
- 1:31Speaker 4: the club and getting it totally smashed tonight. In the meantime,
- 1:36Speaker 4: we got a lot to get to, so let's leave
- 1:37Speaker 4: through today's copy of The Boxing Gazette, the number one
- 1:40Speaker 4: source for boxing.
- 1:41Speaker 2: News, James Sin.
- 1:42Speaker 4: Since our previous episode, we had the much hyper turn
- 1:45Speaker 4: of Many Pecchio against Mario Barrios. I made the prediction
- 1:49Speaker 4: that the fight would go the distance, but that Barrios
- 1:51Speaker 4: would win. Turns out it was a draw. You made
- 1:53Speaker 4: the prediction that we would see more washedness from Many
- 1:57Speaker 4: than people would expect. I do not personally feel that
- 2:00Speaker 4: your prediction was correct based on the performance we saw,
- 2:02Speaker 4: but I want to get your take on it and
- 2:04Speaker 4: what you saw on the night of July nineteenth.
- 2:07Speaker 3: It wasn't correct at all. I was kind of surprised,
- 2:09Speaker 3: but also I have a lot of respect for pakial
- 2:12Speaker 3: like being that of age, being ready, being somewhat in
- 2:16Speaker 3: relative good shape for that fight, like he was there
- 2:18Speaker 3: to fight, And you gotta give credit because as boxes
- 2:21Speaker 3: get older, we know the gymps details not there, we
- 2:24Speaker 3: know the training is not always the same. So for
- 2:27Speaker 3: him to look prepared, to look ready, and you can
- 2:29Speaker 3: make an argument that he won the fight. I think
- 2:32Speaker 3: it was a good performance for him. The only issue
- 2:33Speaker 3: is I think we're gonna try to see more fight
- 2:35Speaker 3: from him, and I don't think that's a great idea
- 2:38Speaker 3: because now you're talking about different names. So it's one
- 2:41Speaker 3: thing to fight against the Barrios, but now there's hardly
- 2:44Speaker 3: another name, and some other fighters looking names too. For
- 2:47Speaker 3: various reasons. We know why, but I think we kind
- 2:50Speaker 3: of either comment down just to be I think he
- 2:53Speaker 3: got cool it down because he's still what forty six
- 2:57Speaker 3: forty six absolutely, and the guy he's mentioning are better
- 3:01Speaker 3: than Burials. They're younger than he is. And I don't
- 3:06Speaker 3: know if that's the right idea. However, there's paydays that
- 3:09Speaker 3: are there to be had, so I get it. And
- 3:12Speaker 3: if many owls back taxes or ow some debt and
- 3:15Speaker 3: this is way out of it, who am I to
- 3:17Speaker 3: say he shouldn't fight.
- 3:19Speaker 4: Yeah, I mean two things can be true. One that
- 3:22Speaker 4: he was his comeback was for the money. We've said
- 3:24Speaker 4: that on this show and I believe it.
- 3:27Speaker 2: But two that you.
- 3:28Speaker 4: Know, we've got to give him respect for how he looked,
- 3:31Speaker 4: how he fought. Yeah, I mean I was happy with
- 3:36Speaker 4: the draw as the decision. I think it was. It
- 3:39Speaker 4: was solid. Still don't think he really eked out the wind.
- 3:42Speaker 4: But again, different people see different things. It's live, it's
- 3:46Speaker 4: happening really fast. Many still has a lot of speed
- 3:48Speaker 4: to him, so you know, it's very different in watching
- 3:53Speaker 4: it from on TV than having the judges score it there.
- 3:56Speaker 4: So but I was happy with the result. But yeah,
- 3:59Speaker 4: the one thing that I I'm kind of worried about
- 4:01Speaker 4: is that, you know, he's he's on his own supply,
- 4:03Speaker 4: which is all he was just going to be a
- 4:05Speaker 4: problem for boxers. Often he's talking about Roly Romero, he's
- 4:09Speaker 4: talking about Tank.
- 4:11Speaker 2: I don't know. Here's the thing.
- 4:14Speaker 4: I think he should leave well Enoughaloe. I think he
- 4:16Speaker 4: should enjoy his big comeback. He looked great and the
- 4:20Speaker 4: audience the best part of it was the audience losing
- 4:24Speaker 4: their minds over Manny's comeback at the Arena they kept
- 4:28Speaker 4: cheering his names. He put on a great show for
- 4:30Speaker 4: the people, for his fans, all the people that loved
- 4:32Speaker 4: them from back in the day were thrilled to see him,
- 4:34Speaker 4: you know, come back. And then I'll let's be honest,
- 4:36Speaker 4: not embarrass himself in the ring.
- 4:38Speaker 2: What more do you want?
- 4:39Speaker 3: Man?
- 4:40Speaker 2: What more do you want?
- 4:41Speaker 4: I think he should right off into the sunset, but
- 4:43Speaker 4: I don't know if he doesn't.
- 4:46Speaker 2: What do you think about those potential matchups? So what
- 4:48Speaker 2: do you think about a Tank matchup? No?
- 4:50Speaker 3: No, And we can talk about Tank a little little
- 4:53Speaker 3: later or even now. I got to be fight a
- 4:56Speaker 3: whole lot of fights.
- 4:57Speaker 2: Just in general.
- 4:57Speaker 3: It's always something, whether it's all retired legal problems, it's
- 5:02Speaker 3: not just always something.
- 5:04Speaker 2: And yes, it would do good numbers people would tune
- 5:06Speaker 2: in to.
- 5:06Speaker 3: Watch, But it feels like tenk OUs other things going
- 5:09Speaker 3: on right now, so I don't think that's gonna work.
- 5:14Speaker 3: Rowley is interesting only because it fits the whole Mexican
- 5:18Speaker 3: versus Filipino type of boxing match that always does well,
- 5:22Speaker 3: like always like marketability wise, it always does well. However,
- 5:27Speaker 3: Rowley's a lot younger, more aggressive, don't they has a
- 5:32Speaker 3: great matchup for Pacia could be wrong. I only has
- 5:34Speaker 3: a great matchup just thinking in general, but I get
- 5:39Speaker 3: it because people want paydays, and like a guy, he's
- 5:42Speaker 3: found a lot of guys, but I don't.
- 5:44Speaker 2: Know if he's got to pay a lot of money.
- 5:46Speaker 3: Well, he's got these, you know, relatively well off for
- 5:48Speaker 3: regular person, but as a boxer, he's been on the
- 5:51Speaker 3: b side of a lot of these matches, so I
- 5:52Speaker 3: don't know money wise where he's at. So that's why
- 5:56Speaker 3: I can see him like, yeah, of course I'll take
- 5:58Speaker 3: this fight. BEA's probably guaranteed five million guy would understand.
- 6:02Speaker 3: But honestly, Pakal being forty six, I don't know if
- 6:05Speaker 3: he wants to get in the ring with a dangerous fighter.
- 6:08Speaker 3: I don't think that makes sense. Like him fighting Tank
- 6:11Speaker 3: wouldn't make sense at all. Tank would end his career.
- 6:14Speaker 3: But I just think with Tank, there's some of other
- 6:16Speaker 3: variables there.
- 6:17Speaker 2: Just don't know. But it is fascinating.
- 6:20Speaker 3: But I think boxing has this problem to where we're
- 6:23Speaker 3: always banking on the guys from yesteryear to sell fights,
- 6:28Speaker 3: and I think that's a bad idea because we have
- 6:31Speaker 3: younger guys that are really good. Even the Mega fight
- 6:34Speaker 3: that's coming up in about a month and a half.
- 6:36Speaker 3: Those guys are in their mid to late thirties. Those
- 6:39Speaker 3: guys have already had a prime and this is a
- 6:43Speaker 3: mega event. We need to focus on younger guys that
- 6:45Speaker 3: can push the sport and bring into different heights, hopefully
- 6:48Speaker 3: new heights. But we're still pushing guys in their forties
- 6:52Speaker 3: in the late thirties, and we kind of need to
- 6:54Speaker 3: get away from that for the betterment of the sport.
- 6:57Speaker 2: I'm with you, that's a well.
- 6:59Speaker 4: You made so many good points there, but yeah, I
- 7:02Speaker 4: dislike sort of going back to the well as much
- 7:04Speaker 4: as we have, But that's kind of culture in general.
- 7:07Speaker 4: I went to see whatever thirty years later, sequel twenty
- 7:12Speaker 4: five years later, sequel two. I Know what you did
- 7:14Speaker 4: last summer This weekend, I completely wasted my time watching
- 7:19Speaker 4: Happy Gilmore Too.
- 7:20Speaker 2: Absolute waste of time, total trash. Do not watch it.
- 7:23Speaker 2: But that's just kind of a thing.
- 7:24Speaker 4: It's just where I'll kind of stick with the movie
- 7:28Speaker 4: analogy for a bit, you know, having Gillmore to all
- 7:30Speaker 4: those jokes are rehashed from the first thing, and people are,
- 7:33Speaker 4: I don't know, do you not want something new? You
- 7:35Speaker 4: know you like the original because it was fresh and
- 7:37Speaker 4: new and clever. Do you really want to just see
- 7:40Speaker 4: that stuff again and go oh, I remember that, you know,
- 7:42Speaker 4: And that kind of translates to, you know, these fighters
- 7:45Speaker 4: that we want to keep bringing back, and you know,
- 7:47Speaker 4: the whole Tyson debacle from last year, you know, the
- 7:51Speaker 4: you know, Manny come back, and there's people online saying,
- 7:55Speaker 4: what about Many and Floyd rematch?
- 7:57Speaker 2: I'm like, can't see that. Get out of my face?
- 7:59Speaker 2: With the ten years ago? The original was ten years ago.
- 8:03Speaker 3: We don't need and it was late then, like it
- 8:06Speaker 3: was late when it happened.
- 8:07Speaker 2: We don't need it. We don't need It's like, we
- 8:09Speaker 2: don't there's nothing of that matchup.
- 8:12Speaker 3: I need to see it again, like we kind of
- 8:13Speaker 3: knew it was gonna happ when they first matched up.
- 8:16Speaker 3: We don't need a second fight there. We don't necessarily
- 8:20Speaker 3: need that. However, for the casual fan, the person that
- 8:24Speaker 3: only watches the very big fights, I get it. You're
- 8:27Speaker 3: getting that money, so I understand that. But man, with
- 8:31Speaker 3: all that being said, come on, man, we don't necessarily
- 8:36Speaker 3: need to rely on guys at the back end or
- 8:41Speaker 3: even way past their prime. I think it does e
- 8:43Speaker 3: sport of the service because there are so many other
- 8:46Speaker 3: young and up and coming guys that are really good,
- 8:49Speaker 3: that are really really really good, that they just don't
- 8:53Speaker 3: get the same type of opportunity, and I think that
- 8:55Speaker 3: hurts the sport overall.
- 8:58Speaker 4: Yeah, you made a good point, Many versus floidos ten
- 9:01Speaker 4: years ago prime Manny was twenty years ago.
- 9:04Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 9:05Speaker 4: Yeah, I think here's and here's the thing, no matter what,
- 9:10Speaker 4: if we're gonna have an old timer or a granty comeback,
- 9:13Speaker 4: it has to be for a belt, like, it has
- 9:16Speaker 4: to be legit, for the record, for a tight show,
- 9:18Speaker 4: whatever it is. I don't just want to see a
- 9:20Speaker 4: showcase for fun with a couple of old timers who
- 9:24Speaker 4: have been retired for years. That's something that I said
- 9:26Speaker 4: before and I'll stick to it. I respect Manny for
- 9:28Speaker 4: actually fighting a champion and you know, trying to It
- 9:32Speaker 4: was a legit fight, so it wasn't just a you know,
- 9:36Speaker 4: it wasn't what Mike Tyson and Roy Jones Junior from
- 9:40Speaker 4: three four years ago whenever. That was another one that
- 9:43Speaker 4: I'm like, what are you guys do it? But here's
- 9:48Speaker 4: the thing. I agree with you. We do not need
- 9:51Speaker 4: to see Many fight a younger guy. We do not
- 9:53Speaker 4: need to see him fight Tank. But how much of
- 9:56Speaker 4: Manny's mindset after this fight was like, I I still
- 10:00Speaker 4: got it, I can still still take Tank.
- 10:02Speaker 2: Does he believe of course, we're not mind readers.
- 10:04Speaker 4: I'm just saying, you know, is that could that be
- 10:07Speaker 4: a factor in a lot of guys, guys heads who
- 10:09Speaker 4: you know, they get it, they get high on their
- 10:11Speaker 4: own supply. I keep going back to that and say,
- 10:13Speaker 4: you know.
- 10:15Speaker 3: Please, So we all got group chats, we all have
- 10:17Speaker 3: our friends, our communities, et cetera, et cetera, et cetera. Right,
- 10:22Speaker 3: So that being said, there's a group chat with Manny
- 10:26Speaker 3: and his people where it's his friends, his business partners,
- 10:29Speaker 3: whomever that's saying, hey man, you look really good last weekend.
- 10:33Speaker 3: How are you feeling? And then the ideas start. Whether
- 10:36Speaker 3: all the ideas are good or not, it's a whole
- 10:38Speaker 3: different conversation. But there's a lot of theories that have
- 10:41Speaker 3: been thrown out there. I bet you they've been matchups,
- 10:43Speaker 3: there's been money, there's a lot of things going on
- 10:45Speaker 3: over the last like ten days or so since that
- 10:48Speaker 3: fight that hey man, I wouldn't be surprised if there
- 10:52Speaker 3: is an announcement soon or later on his next fight,
- 10:55Speaker 3: because one, he looked relatively well for all they considered. Secondly,
- 11:00Speaker 3: bears a market for him to fight like People are
- 11:02Speaker 3: gonna tune in and watch if he's fighting. That's his
- 11:05Speaker 3: nature of the beast. No matter how you slice it.
- 11:07Speaker 3: If Manny Pachiall is fighting in a sanctioned fight, people
- 11:11Speaker 3: will tune in and watch. He is a huge name.
- 11:14Speaker 3: He's one of the faces of the sport over the
- 11:15Speaker 3: last twenty five years. People will watch. That's just how
- 11:18Speaker 3: it is. You can't there's no other way to describe it.
- 11:21Speaker 3: That's just how it goes. With that being said, though,
- 11:24Speaker 3: how smart and strategic is he doing this? Does he
- 11:27Speaker 3: fight a lesser known guy or does he go for
- 11:30Speaker 3: the huge payday because he can the way he looked
- 11:32Speaker 3: other last Saturday. For if he looked like that again,
- 11:37Speaker 3: he has a couple more fights in him to where
- 11:38Speaker 3: he can make some more dollars. But if he goes
- 11:41Speaker 3: for the big, big fight, then I don't know, I
- 11:45Speaker 3: don't know.
- 11:46Speaker 2: No, I agreed.
- 11:48Speaker 4: I mean, he looked as good as any of you know,
- 11:50Speaker 4: any very good boxer today. You know, yes, he didn't
- 11:53Speaker 4: look like prior many twenty years ago, But I would
- 11:56Speaker 4: say probably not. He wouldn't do well against a Tank.
- 12:00Speaker 4: Probably would do very well against Roly, who is a
- 12:02Speaker 4: talented fighter, knows the disrespect. But yes, that is true,
- 12:07Speaker 4: That is very true. Rollie's win against Ryan, which I
- 12:10Speaker 4: predicted was gonna happen, was more because Ryan's kind of
- 12:13Speaker 4: a brute bully and he got out boxed twice. Maybe
- 12:17Speaker 4: we can diguez ass out of the grave to put
- 12:21Speaker 4: it back on that. But speaking of Tank, so there's
- 12:26Speaker 4: the rumors out there the Tank would would potentially take
- 12:29Speaker 4: a Many fight, but also for the wrong reasons for
- 12:31Speaker 4: the payday, because, uh, the Lamont roach fight was supposed
- 12:35Speaker 4: to happen around August. Nothing's been declared, nothing's been signed,
- 12:38Speaker 4: nothing's been announced. Doesn't necessarily mean anything because fights get
- 12:42Speaker 4: delayed all the time, et cetera, et cetera. Tank was
- 12:45Speaker 4: in jail for domestic violence recently, so he's his stock
- 12:48Speaker 4: has been crumbling this past year really hard. So I
- 12:53Speaker 4: think that potentially it could be Tank sticking to his
- 12:58Speaker 4: guns about retirement and running off into the sunset with
- 13:01Speaker 4: a Many fight because that would net a pay day
- 13:04Speaker 4: for both of them. Of course i'd watch it, but
- 13:07Speaker 4: I don't know that I'd love the idea, but it
- 13:10Speaker 4: does seem like sort of the best exit strategy for
- 13:12Speaker 4: where Tank is now, especially compared to how the like,
- 13:17Speaker 4: the excitement for the Roach fight wasn't even there in
- 13:19Speaker 4: the first place. Let's be honest. Yeah, the only reason
- 13:24Speaker 4: it was such a big deal was because of how
- 13:26Speaker 4: it turned out. Sorry, the only reason a rematch seemed
- 13:29Speaker 4: like a big deal was because of how it turned out.
- 13:31Speaker 4: But that's not something that you can really keep milking.
- 13:34Speaker 4: You know, the time for Tank versus Roach too is
- 13:37Speaker 4: going to be. If it's not gone now, it's going
- 13:40Speaker 4: to be gone very soon. So I don't know, what
- 13:41Speaker 4: do you think about that potential legs of strategy for Tank.
- 13:44Speaker 3: It's very difficult now because even like this, we had
- 13:49Speaker 3: a situation where I think it was September, like mid
- 13:53Speaker 3: September was the or late September was the original date.
- 13:58Speaker 3: We're seven weeks away from that now. I don't see.
- 14:02Speaker 3: Usually a fight gets announced with two months to market.
- 14:04Speaker 3: That's the normal. You have a fight unless it's something minor,
- 14:07Speaker 3: but a major fight gets like two months to market,
- 14:11Speaker 3: press tour, et cetera, et cetera. We're at that stage now.
- 14:14Speaker 3: And I haven't seen no, I haven't seen nothing agreement.
- 14:17Speaker 3: No one knows tank situation, so I don't know, Like
- 14:20Speaker 3: I honestly don't know what's going on. And Tank doesn't
- 14:24Speaker 3: have like a big promotion company behind.
- 14:27Speaker 2: Him to be like, hey, with that being said, you
- 14:32Speaker 2: know this is what's going on. There's going to spend
- 14:33Speaker 2: the narrative.
- 14:34Speaker 3: There's no one to calm down rumors or here's the
- 14:37Speaker 3: nutt It's just all things go. So right now, we
- 14:39Speaker 3: don't know if Tank's gonna fight again. We don't know
- 14:41Speaker 3: if that fight's gonna happen. The way Lamont Roach is talking,
- 14:46Speaker 3: he feels reserved that there's not gonna be a fight
- 14:47Speaker 3: besween him and Tank this year. The way he's what
- 14:50Speaker 3: I've seen some of the conversations, some of the tweets
- 14:52Speaker 3: and the posts and everything, it feels like that shit
- 14:56Speaker 3: may have sailed and that Roach is about to be
- 14:58Speaker 3: moving on because his name is hot right now, he
- 15:01Speaker 3: should be able to capitalize and try to move up
- 15:04Speaker 3: and make as much as he can, try to get
- 15:06Speaker 3: a belt from somebody or be in a contention for
- 15:08Speaker 3: a belt and go from there. So why wouldn't he,
- 15:11Speaker 3: you know, take advantage of the situation he has.
- 15:14Speaker 2: You can't wait on a tank.
- 15:15Speaker 3: Tank got a lot going on, No one knows anything,
- 15:17Speaker 3: and eventually it comes to the point where either we
- 15:20Speaker 3: got to sign up for or move on.
- 15:21Speaker 2: And I think that date's coming soon because you just
- 15:24Speaker 2: can't keep waiting.
- 15:25Speaker 4: You just can't, right, And nobody would would blame roach
- 15:28Speaker 4: for moving on. Nobody would say, well, you're duck in
- 15:30Speaker 4: the rematch, blah blah blah. You know, it's understandable he's
- 15:33Speaker 4: kind of left hanging. I mean, I don't know, Yeah,
- 15:36Speaker 4: something could get announced. How about this, If that fight
- 15:39Speaker 4: or another tank fight gets announced before the end of
- 15:42Speaker 4: this year, I think we're still in solar territory if
- 15:45Speaker 4: Tank is waiting until twenty twenty six to do anything.
- 15:48Speaker 4: Like my man is just out of the conversation.
- 15:51Speaker 3: So it's tough because he has a legal situation and
- 15:53Speaker 3: we don't know what's going on with that. He might
- 15:56Speaker 3: be on house arrest, he might be on probably there
- 15:58Speaker 3: might be rules of his release that we don't know yet.
- 16:00Speaker 2: So we have no idea what's going on in this situation.
- 16:04Speaker 3: So that's the thing that makes this thing very very interesting,
- 16:06Speaker 3: is that we're all waiting to see on what the
- 16:08Speaker 3: actual move is because right now we feel like we're
- 16:11Speaker 3: all in the dark. Everyone's in the dark. He's not
- 16:13Speaker 3: saying anything since the case happened. He's been quiet. No
- 16:17Speaker 3: one knows anything. We don't know who's really running his.
- 16:20Speaker 2: Show, so we're all just kind of out the blue.
- 16:22Speaker 3: But also, we have a mega fight coming up in
- 16:24Speaker 3: a month and a half, and we're gonna be talking
- 16:27Speaker 3: about that more and more as the date comes about.
- 16:30Speaker 3: We're not enough about taking roach until that fight's over
- 16:33Speaker 3: and done with and then some so I don't really
- 16:36Speaker 3: know what's going on. It doesn't make they're making all
- 16:39Speaker 3: the wrong moves with this matchup. That rematch should have
- 16:41Speaker 3: been set right away and they should have been fighting
- 16:44Speaker 3: right around this time. That should have been done a
- 16:46Speaker 3: two or three month situation and bloom, let's run it
- 16:49Speaker 3: right back.
- 16:49Speaker 2: But this is crazy, Like this is wild.
- 16:52Speaker 4: That's a really good point about Canelo Crawford happening in September.
- 16:55Speaker 4: I mean then that means nothing can happen till after that,
- 16:59Speaker 4: closer to October, which means it would be a December fight,
- 17:01Speaker 4: which which was supposed to happen last year December of
- 17:04Speaker 4: twenty four and got pushed back so earliest with the
- 17:08Speaker 4: two month lead up, yeah, December of this year. But again,
- 17:11Speaker 4: if that gets delayed at all, then we're going to
- 17:14Speaker 4: twenty six and that's a full near to full year
- 17:16Speaker 4: to Tech fight.
- 17:18Speaker 3: And again, whether the Tank goes to jail, then the
- 17:20Speaker 3: fight's done. Also that, I mean, we don't know any
- 17:23Speaker 3: Like said, there's so many variables with it. That sucks
- 17:26Speaker 3: because fans we want to see one of the faces
- 17:28Speaker 3: of the sport fight. We want to see Tank fight.
- 17:30Speaker 3: We have our opinions about what he is and how
- 17:33Speaker 3: good he could be and how good he actually is.
- 17:35Speaker 3: That's all fair, but he's still won the most recognizable
- 17:38Speaker 3: face of the sport. We want to see him fight.
- 17:40Speaker 3: We want to see him. He's the one guy outside
- 17:43Speaker 3: of the two guys that are fighting in two weeks
- 17:45Speaker 3: that people will pay pay per view prices to see fight.
- 17:49Speaker 2: There is something to go with that. There's something to
- 17:51Speaker 2: be said for that.
- 17:52Speaker 3: And to lose one of those guys on some bs
- 17:56Speaker 3: and for basically you're not taking care of business. It's
- 17:58Speaker 3: really unfortunate because it would not surprise if we never
- 18:01Speaker 3: saw him fight again. They wouldn't surprise. I'm not saying
- 18:03Speaker 3: I would bet on it, but it wouldn't surprise me.
- 18:06Speaker 2: That's a really, uh really fair point.
- 18:09Speaker 3: You know.
- 18:09Speaker 4: Rumors are also out there that he could take another
- 18:12Speaker 4: big payday by fighting Jake Paul and then dipping and
- 18:15Speaker 4: sticking to the retirement, which we have said that Jake
- 18:18Speaker 4: Paul is excommunity Kado from the podcast like like from
- 18:21Speaker 4: John Wick.
- 18:22Speaker 2: Thank you too. If you take that fight, you are
- 18:25Speaker 2: dead to me.
- 18:25Speaker 3: I mean, look you so. I can't say that because
- 18:28Speaker 3: here's the thing. If you're guaranteed one hundred and fifty million,
- 18:31Speaker 3: I get it. I can't as a task paying American,
- 18:35Speaker 3: I ain't gonna say. I ain't gonna say no, wise
- 18:37Speaker 3: a fool turning that down and then he's getting that
- 18:40Speaker 3: kind of money. I don't like it, but I understand.
- 18:43Speaker 2: I don't. I don't agree with it. I may not
- 18:45Speaker 2: even watch, but I understand. But if you're doing it just.
- 18:48Speaker 3: For show, just just to pass the time, that I
- 18:51Speaker 3: gotta see record setting numbers. If you pull us something
- 18:54Speaker 3: like that, the amount of guaranteed money has to be
- 18:57Speaker 3: so high that it's like, oh, well, he couldn't turn
- 19:00Speaker 3: that down something like that.
- 19:01Speaker 2: If it's not that, then I don't want to hear
- 19:03Speaker 2: about it, right.
- 19:04Speaker 4: And you're right, I understand as well, and understand that
- 19:08Speaker 4: he's going to be dead to me if he takes
- 19:09Speaker 4: that fight.
- 19:10Speaker 3: I understand. I get it because we take boxing seriously.
- 19:16Speaker 3: Most of the country does not, but we take boxing
- 19:19Speaker 3: very seriously. So when you see some shenanigans going, then yeah,
- 19:23Speaker 3: it ain't really cool. However, if you get promises, you
- 19:27Speaker 3: get guaranteed nine figures and you're about to work hire anyway, Like, hey,
- 19:33Speaker 3: I understand now that being said, you're fighting basically an
- 19:37Speaker 3: amateur eye and if that happens, that's basically been picking
- 19:42Speaker 3: fights and whatnot. Are you really going to knock this
- 19:45Speaker 3: guy out? Like is that really gonna happen?
- 19:46Speaker 2: You know what I mean? So it's a lot. I
- 19:48Speaker 2: hope that. I hope we don't come to that. I
- 19:49Speaker 2: hope he doesn't come to that. Let's say it like that,
- 19:51Speaker 2: that's true, Yeah, we should.
- 19:52Speaker 4: We shouldn't get into like what would happen if and
- 19:54Speaker 4: then let's let's just let's just kind of cross our
- 19:57Speaker 4: fingers that.
- 19:59Speaker 2: He doesn't have to that low such a bitch. Okay.
- 20:04Speaker 4: Next up on the news less Saturday, Zender Zias became
- 20:08Speaker 4: the WBO Junior middle World Champion in his fight againstp
- 20:12Speaker 4: it Is. Xander Sias is a Puerto Rican fighter based
- 20:14Speaker 4: in New York, and at twenty two years old, he
- 20:17Speaker 4: is the youngest current world champion out there. Jamison, we've
- 20:20Speaker 4: talked on the show about how a lot of guys
- 20:22Speaker 4: are getting world title shots sooner than they used to.
- 20:24Speaker 2: Back in the day.
- 20:25Speaker 4: You had to have more fights on your record before
- 20:27Speaker 4: a title shot was even possible. But you know, we've
- 20:29Speaker 4: also talked about how there's just less active fighters as
- 20:32Speaker 4: whole in the sport.
- 20:34Speaker 2: So what's your songs on this? Maybe there's less fights
- 20:36Speaker 2: to go through.
- 20:37Speaker 4: Before you become a world CHAMPI because there's also less
- 20:39Speaker 4: dudes to fight.
- 20:41Speaker 3: It's tricky because everybody's trying to get to the bag, right,
- 20:43Speaker 3: That's like the situation. Every boxer wants to make as
- 20:47Speaker 3: much as possible as soon as possible, So whomever can
- 20:50Speaker 3: promise those fights, that's who they're going with. That may
- 20:53Speaker 3: not be the best for the developmental purposes. But from
- 20:55Speaker 3: what we're saying, what's been going on last I would
- 20:58Speaker 3: say four to five years, is we're seeing guys move
- 21:02Speaker 3: up the ranks very quickly and get to the title
- 21:06Speaker 3: fights quickly than we ever have before ever. And they're
- 21:10Speaker 3: not fighting like four times zero either. They're fighting maybe
- 21:14Speaker 3: three times every fifteen months. It feels like God's fighting
- 21:16Speaker 3: maybe every now and then you get a guy wants
- 21:19Speaker 3: every three every thirteen months, but for the most part,
- 21:21Speaker 3: God's final every four to five months on average.
- 21:24Speaker 2: That's what it feels like.
- 21:25Speaker 3: With that being said, I don't mind it per sec
- 21:29Speaker 3: and that's just the air we're in. I would just
- 21:31Speaker 3: caution of even though somebody has a belt at a
- 21:34Speaker 3: young age, that doesn't mean what it meant.
- 21:36Speaker 2: Twenty years ago or thirty years ago.
- 21:38Speaker 3: I think you have to understand and adjust how things
- 21:41Speaker 3: were when we start watching boxing and what they are now.
- 21:44Speaker 3: You mentioned there's not a whole lot of great candidates
- 21:46Speaker 3: like that it was back in the day. The pool
- 21:49Speaker 3: overall boxers is a lot thinner than it used to be.
- 21:52Speaker 3: So a world champion twenty two, yes, it's very impressive.
- 21:56Speaker 3: Would never take nothing like that away from anyone. However,
- 21:59Speaker 3: with that being said, I do think we have to
- 22:02Speaker 3: adjust and adapt for this era and kyboy Hole, let's
- 22:06Speaker 3: pump the brakes a little bit. Let's see the next
- 22:08Speaker 3: couple of fights and see what's really real. I think
- 22:11Speaker 3: that's the most important thing right now.
- 22:15Speaker 4: Zender also called out Sebastian Fundora, who I don't know
- 22:18Speaker 4: if you saw him fight on the Pacchio about his card.
- 22:20Speaker 4: He's that light middleweight, huge set of a bitch who's
- 22:24Speaker 4: six foot six and he's at light middleweight, which means
- 22:28Speaker 4: one hundred and fifty four pounds, which my god, I
- 22:31Speaker 4: don't even know how that's possible, to be honest with you,
- 22:33Speaker 4: Just like how somebody can have that much body walking
- 22:37Speaker 4: around and still weigh one hundred and fifty four, like
- 22:40Speaker 4: up five to nine.
- 22:41Speaker 2: I probably weigh one hundred.
- 22:42Speaker 4: And fifty four in like college, maybe right after college.
- 22:45Speaker 4: But but Seves, you know, he's his belt. Let's see,
- 22:50Speaker 4: he's got the WBC belt type. I believe so Zenders
- 22:54Speaker 4: I was already talking about unifying, which another thing. You know,
- 22:58Speaker 4: what about a couple of fights in between, what a
- 22:59Speaker 4: couple of couple of mandatory challengers.
- 23:01Speaker 2: Why immediately go to you know.
- 23:03Speaker 4: Unifying the belts? Could be that that's just the quickest
- 23:08Speaker 4: way to uh, you know, to start him to money,
- 23:11Speaker 4: to fame, et cetera. But when there's a talented young
- 23:14Speaker 4: guy with potential, I want to see him fight different
- 23:17Speaker 4: kinds of dudes.
- 23:18Speaker 2: So he's, yeah, he's he's very.
- 23:21Speaker 4: Young and has he's very talented, and he has a
- 23:23Speaker 4: lot of a lot of career ahead of him. I
- 23:26Speaker 4: just want to kind of want to see him develop
- 23:28Speaker 4: the skills. And you know, there's some people out there
- 23:30Speaker 4: that are saying, you know, he doesn't beat the biggest
- 23:32Speaker 4: guys at at his weight class, but it would be
- 23:36Speaker 4: a very interesting challenge for someone who's six to six.
- 23:39Speaker 4: You know, Xendersayas is like five', ten so a more
- 23:42Speaker 4: normal normal size for somebody at that weight. Class we
- 23:46Speaker 4: Saw Sebastian funa Beat Tim, Zu australian, fighter at That bodios.
- 23:51Speaker 4: Fight the man has reached like, Crazy so you have
- 23:55Speaker 4: to really be be able to get on the inside
- 23:58Speaker 4: and not be scared Of that's not that's not easy for.
- 24:01Speaker 4: Anybody so WHEN i was, sparring you, know LIKE i,
- 24:05Speaker 4: Said i'm five to. Nine, HONESTLY i was one of
- 24:07Speaker 4: the bigger, guys taller guys in my boxing classes because
- 24:10Speaker 4: the boxes are, short that's why they start. Fighting so,
- 24:12Speaker 4: uh and you THINK i was, like oh, wait taller
- 24:15Speaker 4: than all these, Dudes i'm gonna beat shit out of all. Them,
- 24:17Speaker 4: no because those guys weren't afraid of, me they were
- 24:20Speaker 4: able to get on the. Inside i'm getting hit with,
- 24:21Speaker 4: Uppercuts i'm getting hit with body shots BEFORE i knew
- 24:24Speaker 4: what was. Happening, so you, know somebody that's really tall
- 24:27Speaker 4: with a long reach is, not you, know invincible by any. Means, No,
- 24:31Speaker 4: yeah but it takes a lot of, skill a lot
- 24:34Speaker 4: of RING iq and just fighting on the inside is
- 24:38Speaker 4: its own skilled that you, KNOW i never really. Mastered
- 24:42Speaker 4: but But i've tried enough times and failed enough times to.
- 24:46Speaker 4: Know you, know you have to really just focus on
- 24:50Speaker 4: being able to throw punches on the, inside stay in the, kitchen,
- 24:53Speaker 4: uh to to get by anybody with a lot of,
- 24:56Speaker 4: reach with a lot of, height.
- 24:57Speaker 2: AND i don't. KNOW i, mean then there's our. Kid
- 25:00Speaker 2: he's a very talented. Kid but you, can't.
- 25:04Speaker 4: Can't you can't just call, out you, know every dude
- 25:07Speaker 4: with a belt right off the.
- 25:08Speaker 3: Bat but, again like we just, mentioned, though these boxers
- 25:13Speaker 3: are looking for the, bread they're looking for the, money
- 25:15Speaker 3: and the only way you can get money is wind
- 25:16Speaker 3: belt and. Fight whoever has, them and that's. It so
- 25:21Speaker 3: it's no Longer, HEY i need to get better from
- 25:23Speaker 3: the betterment of my. Career that's long. Gone now that's
- 25:26Speaker 3: we're out. That like we got guys getting title fights
- 25:29Speaker 3: within the first like twelve, fights you know WHAT i? Mean,
- 25:31Speaker 3: like so where the Whole remember back in the, day
- 25:34Speaker 3: you need to see guy fight like he was like
- 25:36Speaker 3: twenty nine to zero in his first title. Fight that's.
- 25:39Speaker 3: Long we're never gonna see that. Again we're that's all
- 25:42Speaker 3: the way out for a lot of. Reasons AND i get,
- 25:44Speaker 3: it because there's a lot of money, involved Right whoever
- 25:47Speaker 3: the promotion company, is they've invested a lot of money the,
- 25:49Speaker 3: boxer and this campus invests a lot of money in,
- 25:51Speaker 3: Time SO i get.
- 25:52Speaker 2: It, however with that being, said man it's.
- 25:57Speaker 3: Be careful what you ask, for because even though you
- 26:01Speaker 3: might have the talent and skills to win a belt
- 26:04Speaker 3: and make a lot of, money there's a certain maturity
- 26:07Speaker 3: that comes along with moving up and taking those big
- 26:10Speaker 3: fights that has to match your skill and it has
- 26:13Speaker 3: to match your boxing, ability and if that doesn't, mix
- 26:16Speaker 3: then they can be a very very interesting situation where
- 26:20Speaker 3: you do not get the most out of your. CAREER
- 26:22Speaker 3: i think people have to understand the best the most.
- 26:25Speaker 3: Boat the best situation would be to make the most
- 26:28Speaker 3: money throughout your, career not make it so early and
- 26:31Speaker 3: then you phase. Out no one wants to phase. Out
- 26:34Speaker 3: you want to, keep you want to gradually. Grow but
- 26:36Speaker 3: it's as hard to play with the people because right now,
- 26:39Speaker 3: boxing the boxing business has taken a step ahead of
- 26:43Speaker 3: the actual boxing fighting.
- 26:45Speaker 2: Itself AND i think that's a big problem that we've
- 26:48Speaker 2: had in the sport for a.
- 26:48Speaker 4: While then that's an ongoing conversation that we've had since
- 26:52Speaker 4: the very beginning of the. Show, YEAH i MEAN i
- 26:54Speaker 4: worry about, yeah young guys flaming out because they get
- 26:57Speaker 4: too big for their. Breches you, know call out this,
- 26:58Speaker 4: guy called that guy ready and not even a matter
- 27:02Speaker 4: of you, know they fight another guy for a, belt they.
- 27:06Speaker 4: LOSE i personally don't ride off a fighter because he
- 27:11Speaker 4: has a few, losses but a lot of boxing fans.
- 27:14Speaker 4: Do all of a, sudden you Know exander's, eyes you,
- 27:16Speaker 4: know he's he's a big, name he's got a lot of.
- 27:19Speaker 4: Cachet let's, say calls that sevestally for loses and all
- 27:24Speaker 4: of a, sudden it's like this fucking. Kid he wasn't,
- 27:26Speaker 4: shit he wasn't, ready blah, blah and all of a
- 27:29Speaker 4: sudden his stock drops and you, know we kind of
- 27:32Speaker 4: lose a potential young guy that could be fighting for
- 27:35Speaker 4: another ten.
- 27:35Speaker 2: Years so they were like this.
- 27:37Speaker 3: Too so think about the, nineties eighties and, nineties in
- 27:41Speaker 3: the early to mid two, thousands if a guy was
- 27:43Speaker 3: coming up.
- 27:45Speaker 2: And he didn't do so, well he just. Lost it
- 27:48Speaker 2: was no social.
- 27:49Speaker 3: Media there was no, blogs there was no Podcast we're
- 27:52Speaker 3: adding on, somebody you just lost and you got? Better are,
- 27:55Speaker 3: you you, know doing an actual the drawing. Board if
- 27:58Speaker 3: you lose now and you got a little bit of, Hype,
- 28:00Speaker 3: instagram you're a. Bum, facebook you're a. Bum Ax Blue
- 28:04Speaker 3: sky you're a. Bum everybody's, podcasts everybody's, blogs all the.
- 28:09Speaker 2: Fans they have way more accessibility to.
- 28:11Speaker 3: You so mentally it's hard to recover if you flame
- 28:14Speaker 3: out early than it was back in the. Day back
- 28:16Speaker 3: in the day you got a couple of rough fights early,
- 28:19Speaker 3: on you can build back up and get back on.
- 28:22Speaker 3: Track this day and, age you lose a couple of fights,
- 28:25Speaker 3: early you might as well lower For amazon.
- 28:27Speaker 2: Bru that's another good point that it's kind of clicking with.
- 28:33Speaker 4: You, now a lot of these young, guys they're way
- 28:34Speaker 4: younger than we, are and it is. Hard it's hard
- 28:37Speaker 4: for anybody when you're just getting constant hate on social
- 28:39Speaker 4: media over and. Over you, know it takes a lot
- 28:41Speaker 4: to just kind of shut that. OFF i feel like
- 28:43Speaker 4: guys our age or, older we didn't grow up with,
- 28:46Speaker 4: That we don't even live that. Life so it might
- 28:48Speaker 4: be easier to say, whatever you, know kind of blow it,
- 28:50Speaker 4: off put the phone. Down but when you're a young,
- 28:53Speaker 4: guy you're you, know twenties coming up in, boxing and
- 28:56Speaker 4: you're always, online even for good, reasons like for.
- 28:58Speaker 2: Promotion you, know you want to be so you want
- 29:00Speaker 2: to get your.
- 29:00Speaker 4: Name out, there you want to be followed On, Instagram
- 29:02Speaker 4: snapchat or whatever the. Hell but you're just getting constant
- 29:05Speaker 4: like you, suck you're, bum you're, trash you're, overrated, boring
- 29:08Speaker 4: blah blah, blah.
- 29:09Speaker 2: You're, overrated overpay like all that.
- 29:12Speaker 3: Shit the moment you lose a fight that you were
- 29:15Speaker 3: favored in and you're a young, guy all bench. Off
- 29:19Speaker 3: you also got a remember people are also betting on
- 29:21Speaker 3: you as. Well now everybody around the, country in the
- 29:24Speaker 3: world is now betting which we didn't have twenty thirty years.
- 29:26Speaker 3: Ago so all those things when you look take it
- 29:29Speaker 3: back and look at. It if you're not mature enough
- 29:32Speaker 3: to handle, that and it happens all at, once there's
- 29:35Speaker 3: a good chance you don't recover from, it not because you,
- 29:37Speaker 3: suck just because mentally and mostly you're not there. Yet
- 29:40Speaker 3: you're not able to deal with. That and if you
- 29:42Speaker 3: don't have strong enough circle around, you good.
- 29:46Speaker 2: Luck.
- 29:47Speaker 4: Sure AND i feel like a lot of washed people
- 29:50Speaker 4: like our age and, older, say, oh these kids are
- 29:53Speaker 4: just you, know these kids can't handle little criticism on
- 29:55Speaker 4: social media blah blah blah blah.
- 29:56Speaker 2: Blah BUT i don't. Know imagine every.
- 29:59Speaker 4: Day you go in the, morning get a coffee and
- 30:01Speaker 4: the guy that kind of, says, hey you, suck go to,
- 30:03Speaker 4: Work core connect to, you, suck your, Trash you go
- 30:06Speaker 4: to the bar To bartenay says that you're. Trash that'll
- 30:09Speaker 4: get to. Anybody, okay that will get to. Anybody and
- 30:11Speaker 4: AGAIN i don't think it's REALLY i don't see how
- 30:16Speaker 4: a young boxer can make a name today without being
- 30:20Speaker 4: all over social.
- 30:21Speaker 2: Media that's just the. LANDSCAPE a great.
- 30:24Speaker 3: Point that's an amazing point because you have to get
- 30:26Speaker 3: yourself out.
- 30:27Speaker 2: There you gotta market, yourself you have to be.
- 30:30Speaker 3: Out, there you gotta do so much Like emily told
- 30:34Speaker 3: us that and be, like, hey social media is a
- 30:36Speaker 3: huge part of WHAT i. Do so if she's saying,
- 30:39Speaker 3: that the boxers gotta do the same, thing if not,
- 30:41Speaker 3: more just get their name out, initially so you're absolutely.
- 30:44Speaker 3: Correct but also they even like this. Too it's not
- 30:47Speaker 3: just the boxers that are, impacted is they family and
- 30:50Speaker 3: friends also that are now a lot more accessible than
- 30:53Speaker 3: they were back in the. Day, now if a fighter
- 30:56Speaker 3: family was On, instagram you can find out who's. Who
- 30:59Speaker 3: the world's too all to not know who somebody.
- 31:01Speaker 4: Is right absolutely speaking Of, Yeah Emily girton boxing promoter
- 31:07Speaker 4: also did an interview with us episode, fourteen so go
- 31:09Speaker 4: check that. Out she gave us a lot of behind
- 31:11Speaker 4: the scene info and just stuff that.
- 31:12Speaker 2: We're talking about today right. NOW i, mean it really
- 31:15Speaker 2: resonates so awesome for our friend of the.
- 31:18Speaker 4: Show and she was also helped us hook up With Bobby,
- 31:21Speaker 4: Hits so thank.
- 31:22Speaker 2: You to, her like three or four times at this.
- 31:24Speaker 4: Point switching it, up moving, on, well still talking About zender's.
- 31:29Speaker 2: Eye this fight last.
- 31:30Speaker 4: Weekend that was the Last Top ranked card to be
- 31:33Speaker 4: aired ON, espn So Top rank did not renew its,
- 31:36Speaker 4: contract which means that officially there is no boxing promotional
- 31:40Speaker 4: company that airs on regular regular. Television every company is
- 31:44Speaker 4: with a streaming. SERVICE i don't remember all of them
- 31:47Speaker 4: off the top of my, head BUT pbc is With Amazon,
- 31:49Speaker 4: Prime Golden boy is With The.
- 31:51Speaker 2: Zone it's really the end of an. Era you.
- 31:54Speaker 4: Know even back in the, DAY hbo was THE hbo
- 31:58Speaker 4: was synonymous with, boxing but they were still a subscription. Model,
- 32:01Speaker 4: now regular basic cable ass channels do not have boxing
- 32:06Speaker 4: matches on, them won't have, them and you, know it's
- 32:09Speaker 4: A i'm bummed about, it to be honest with. You
- 32:12Speaker 4: the biggest thing for me is you can't just walk
- 32:15Speaker 4: into a random dive bar with TVs that'll HAVE espn
- 32:19Speaker 4: on on A saturday night when boxing is, happening whether
- 32:21Speaker 4: it's a big fight or. Not SOMETIMES i just go
- 32:23Speaker 4: in and be, like, hey some, randoms some nobody's not,
- 32:26Speaker 4: Nobody sorry my, Bad some PEOPLE i don't know are.
- 32:29Speaker 4: FIGHTING i just like watching. Boxing let me go grab
- 32:31Speaker 4: a drink and if that bar HAS espn, on it'll be.
- 32:37Speaker 2: There SO.
- 32:38Speaker 4: I don't know what the, future, WELL i do know
- 32:41Speaker 4: what the future will look. Like everybody's going to be
- 32:42Speaker 4: at a streaming.
- 32:43Speaker 2: Service but just a.
- 32:45Speaker 4: Personal, anecdote you, KNOW i believe last year it was
- 32:48Speaker 4: on my. Birthday it was on A thursday, Night Telfy
- 32:51Speaker 4: malopez was. FIGHTING i went out to this neighborhood dive
- 32:54Speaker 4: called The Silver, room shout out to. Them it was
- 32:56Speaker 4: A u of a basketball, Night university Of Arizona bass,
- 33:00Speaker 4: game a big. One EVERY tv in that bar was,
- 33:03Speaker 4: playing you, know a. Basketball every person in there, was you, know,
- 33:06Speaker 4: uh paying attention to the. Game me as the one
- 33:10Speaker 4: lonely boxing fan in the, PLACE i asked the, Bartender,
- 33:12Speaker 4: hey this ONE tv and not of people seem to
- 33:15Speaker 4: be watching. It CAN i just borrow this? One can
- 33:16Speaker 4: you put it ON espn SO i can watch? Boxing
- 33:18Speaker 4: and she said. Yes she was super cool about. It
- 33:21Speaker 4: and that was, Awesome like that feeling of just saying, like,
- 33:24Speaker 4: hey if you're a cool, bartender can you you switch
- 33:26Speaker 4: the channel for me SOMETHING i want to watch that's,
- 33:28Speaker 4: gone that feeling that that experience is going to be,
- 33:31Speaker 4: gone And I'm i'm really bummed about, it.
- 33:34Speaker 2: To be quiet honest with.
- 33:34Speaker 4: You so that don't get your take on what the
- 33:36Speaker 4: world is going to.
- 33:37Speaker 3: Be LIKE hbo pulled out years, ago it was the
- 33:40Speaker 3: beginning of the end because they were the boxing.
- 33:42Speaker 2: Network they were the one where they took it seriously and.
- 33:48Speaker 3: They put their all into the production of the, event
- 33:51Speaker 3: not just throwing on fights to have.
- 33:53Speaker 2: Fights it was a real life.
- 33:54Speaker 3: Production and when that, left you saw the riding on
- 33:59Speaker 3: the wall because even showtime they tried wasn't the. Same they,
- 34:04Speaker 3: tried they gave an, effort but it wasn't the. SAME
- 34:07Speaker 3: espn was there for a long, time but the effort
- 34:11Speaker 3: wasn't the, same but marketing wasn't the. Same and then
- 34:14Speaker 3: unfortunately we HAD pbc that came and. Went we had
- 34:18Speaker 3: stuff On fox AND cbs and that wasn't really, good
- 34:21Speaker 3: and we had top rank left AND espn unfortunately has
- 34:26Speaker 3: gone away for everything besides football and basketball and a
- 34:30Speaker 3: little bit of. Hockey SO i, HONESTLY i don't necessarily blame.
- 34:35Speaker 3: BOXING i think it's a sign of the. Times but
- 34:38Speaker 3: we took boxing ON tv for, GRANTED i think the networks.
- 34:42Speaker 2: DID i think the people.
- 34:43Speaker 3: Did we didn't watch enough to make sure to stay
- 34:48Speaker 3: ON tv as a.
- 34:49Speaker 2: Whole as a mass as a group of.
- 34:51Speaker 3: People we didn't all gravitate towards the free boxing in.
- 34:55Speaker 2: A, sense we took it for.
- 34:57Speaker 3: Granted we figured out All tunate events are all tune
- 35:00Speaker 3: in for the main.
- 35:01Speaker 2: Event we didn't take it. Seriously and now it's all.
- 35:03Speaker 2: Gone now you have to have the oone. Subscription now
- 35:07Speaker 2: you have to have illegal links and all that. Stuff
- 35:10Speaker 2: not a fan of.
- 35:11Speaker 3: It it, sucks but it feels like everything is evolving
- 35:15Speaker 3: and this is just another thing that's on the. List
- 35:17Speaker 3: like the way we watch fights now is just through
- 35:19Speaker 3: a link or a subscription or, app and that's. All
- 35:23Speaker 3: that's the new wave AND i don't see it going
- 35:25Speaker 3: back to what it once. WAS i think this is
- 35:27Speaker 3: it and we got to deal with.
- 35:28Speaker 4: It, yeah it feels like going out of town and
- 35:35Speaker 4: trying to find out who's playing a pay per view,
- 35:37Speaker 4: fight like a major, match because if you don't know
- 35:39Speaker 4: if it's you, KNOW i know in my, town you
- 35:41Speaker 4: know who's, playing who plays? WHAT i have a pretty good,
- 35:43Speaker 4: idea but you, Know i've had to call in, like,
- 35:45Speaker 4: hey you're playing this fight on pay per? View, know,
- 35:47Speaker 4: okay blah blah. Blah and it feels like that just
- 35:49Speaker 4: for any ass regular ass fight with top rank BECAUSE
- 35:53Speaker 4: i don't, know my dives aren't going to have probably
- 35:57Speaker 4: not going to Have Amazon prime under old, TVs you,
- 36:00Speaker 4: know behind the.
- 36:00Speaker 2: End here's the. THING i, like you're going at shitty.
- 36:03Speaker 4: Places so if you maybe you, know you know we
- 36:06Speaker 4: mentioned before like a buffalo wild. Wings, Hell i've Seen
- 36:09Speaker 4: i've watched the fight At David busters just because uh
- 36:13Speaker 4: because why, not you, know just kind of go see
- 36:16Speaker 4: at different. Locations but, yeah just the place around the,
- 36:18Speaker 4: corner the little crappy dive bar with a couple of
- 36:21Speaker 4: TVs that always HAS espn that places. Out so, YEAH i,
- 36:26Speaker 4: mean who emerges as the next leader in boxing?
- 36:28Speaker 2: Broadcasting like which app like which? Which well.
- 36:33Speaker 3: The dazzing or de zone what everyone to call is
- 36:35Speaker 3: probably first in the lists because they at least they
- 36:38Speaker 3: feel they put effort behind their, product AND i can appreciate.
- 36:42Speaker 3: That it feels Like netflix is always gonna be an
- 36:45Speaker 3: option because they need live content and they've had a
- 36:47Speaker 3: lot of successful events on they want to come to.
- 36:49Speaker 3: Sports SO i feels Like Netflix amazon are always gonna
- 36:52Speaker 3: be in the mix because there is such a need for.
- 36:55Speaker 2: It but, man it's just one of those things to
- 36:59Speaker 2: where two.
- 37:01Speaker 3: Things we need more boxes that people want to. See
- 37:04Speaker 3: that's the first thing we need more the overall talent
- 37:09Speaker 3: has dipped in the, sport and not necessarily saying guys
- 37:12Speaker 3: aren't as. Skillful they're not as good and marketable as
- 37:15Speaker 3: they once were way back. When we have guys that
- 37:18Speaker 3: are a good. Guy but Like boots in this no
- 37:22Speaker 3: one knows what he sounds. LIKE i don't know anything about.
- 37:25Speaker 3: Him besides he's For philadelphia and that he chooses his
- 37:28Speaker 3: fights very.
- 37:29Speaker 2: Carefully that's ALL i. Know BUT i don't know.
- 37:31Speaker 3: ANYTHING i don't know what damn thing about. HIM i
- 37:33Speaker 3: don't know WHAT i don't know anything about. Him there
- 37:36Speaker 3: are so many good fighters out, there we just don't
- 37:37Speaker 3: know what damn thing. About there's no interesting things about these,
- 37:40Speaker 3: guys so it's hard as hell to market. Them if
- 37:43Speaker 3: you're An, amazon why are you gonna pay twenty million
- 37:46Speaker 3: dollars for A boots in this? Event why are you
- 37:49Speaker 3: gonna pay that much FOR i, mean twenty. Minutes it's
- 37:51Speaker 3: all everything, right the production, trucks the, travel. Everything why
- 37:55Speaker 3: are you gonna pay all that money for a fighter
- 37:58Speaker 3: that no one really knows outside of hard boxing. Fans
- 38:01Speaker 3: so those are the THINGS i think, One boxers in
- 38:04Speaker 3: general got to be back to being, charismatic. Marketable you
- 38:08Speaker 3: gotta be able to sell fights while being. Good we
- 38:11Speaker 3: had a lot of that in the, nineties a lot of,
- 38:13Speaker 3: that and part of that was guys found The olympics as,
- 38:16Speaker 3: well but just in, general we had a lot of
- 38:18Speaker 3: guys that were fucking, marketable that were, cool that you
- 38:21Speaker 3: knew about that you saw fight at eighteen nineteen twenty
- 38:25Speaker 3: and you saw them rise and oh, shit they're trying
- 38:27Speaker 3: to Pro oh, shit, there this is the first title.
- 38:29Speaker 3: Fight we don't have that no, more like that's all.
- 38:31Speaker 3: Gone but also a big part of it as well
- 38:35Speaker 3: is this day and age they boxing unfortunately is not
- 38:44Speaker 3: looked at the same as other, Sports SO, MMA ufc
- 38:48Speaker 3: and all that is looked at different than.
- 38:50Speaker 2: BOXING espn is still in bed WITH ufc And Dana.
- 38:53Speaker 3: White we gotta get boxing back to a spot to
- 38:56Speaker 3: where it's, like, oh we need to have.
- 38:58Speaker 2: That we gotta have.
- 38:59Speaker 3: THAT i don't know what else is there to do
- 39:02Speaker 3: about that unless we get another superstar athlete that becomes
- 39:07Speaker 3: a boxer and becomes dominant to, where oh, shit we
- 39:10Speaker 3: gotta have that guy basically A floyd Of Mike. Tyson
- 39:14Speaker 3: you need a guy that's like transcendent across all, sports
- 39:17Speaker 3: not just a great, boxer but he'sn't running for best
- 39:20Speaker 3: athlete in the whole.
- 39:21Speaker 2: World we need.
- 39:23Speaker 3: THAT i don't know who's capable of doing, that but
- 39:25Speaker 3: we need that to get back in the discussion in my.
- 39:27Speaker 4: Opinion, yeah And i'm glad you Mentioned Dana white, actually
- 39:31Speaker 4: because there's rumors out there that HIS tko boxing, promotion
- 39:37Speaker 4: whatever it is you know that he's involved, with might
- 39:40Speaker 4: be an easy sign FOR. Espn easy easy sign, up
- 39:44Speaker 4: an easy contract to sign FOR.
- 39:46Speaker 2: Espn you, know not A ufc, FAN i.
- 39:50Speaker 4: Don't i'm not gonna SAY i hate on it or
- 39:52Speaker 4: anything like. THAT i don't SAY i put it On it's,
- 39:54Speaker 4: like oh that's stupid or. Whatever it's just never appealed to.
- 39:56Speaker 4: Me but there is A ufc model THAT i have
- 40:00Speaker 4: been learning more ABOUT i was just ignorant. On but you,
- 40:03Speaker 4: Know Dana white is not the most the best regarded.
- 40:07Speaker 4: Promoter you know underpays. Fighters you, know definitely you have
- 40:13Speaker 4: seen that the business is the biggest, thing and all
- 40:17Speaker 4: of his fighters secondary to, that they have no power
- 40:20Speaker 4: and like A canelo can choose wherever he, fights who he,
- 40:23Speaker 4: fights you, know but you know what promotion company is
- 40:27Speaker 4: With you're With Dana.
- 40:28Speaker 2: White Dana white's in.
- 40:29Speaker 4: Charge he's the, guy he's the god, king and you
- 40:31Speaker 4: better not piss him off because he will just derail.
- 40:34Speaker 2: You is is What i'm.
- 40:36Speaker 4: Reading you, know let's, say allegedly allegedly, speaking but for, boxing.
- 40:41Speaker 2: That doesn't sound very.
- 40:41Speaker 4: Good that sounds like going back to the to the
- 40:43Speaker 4: heydays of A Don, king of those stories of, him you,
- 40:46Speaker 4: know screwing over fighters and not paying them. Enough and you,
- 40:51Speaker 4: know for whatever he did for the, sport he doesn't
- 40:54Speaker 4: have the best reputation all that. Thought So Bob aaron
- 40:58Speaker 4: was packed.
- 40:59Speaker 3: Alstro motofall these, Years Pac yeah is still fighting in
- 41:02Speaker 3: his mid. Forties all these dudes is. Crooks all these
- 41:06Speaker 3: promoters are bad, people especially from that. ERA i DON'T
- 41:08Speaker 3: i can't speak on today's eric because that's a whole different.
- 41:11Speaker 3: Thing but all them promoters from back in the, day
- 41:13Speaker 3: they're all the. Same they all, talk they all just look,
- 41:16Speaker 3: different but they're all the.
- 41:17Speaker 2: Same that's.
- 41:19Speaker 4: Fair but from, again from What i've read allegedly, speaking
- 41:22Speaker 4: Dayn't white seems to be worse than ANYBODY ufc is
- 41:27Speaker 4: there's not enough money.
- 41:28Speaker 3: Involved because here's the, issue unless you're like the, top top.
- 41:33Speaker 3: Guy a lot of the fighters have like regular, jobs
- 41:36Speaker 3: like a lot of the guys on the undercar like
- 41:38Speaker 3: we talked, about we talked about the three pm and
- 41:39Speaker 3: four pm. Fights all them dudes got. Jobs like them
- 41:43Speaker 3: dudes got. Jobs they gotta be At Monday monday. Morning
- 41:46Speaker 3: so it's a little different than a boxer that's gonna
- 41:49Speaker 3: get paid one hundred grand or two fifty. Whatever that's
- 41:53Speaker 3: not the case in THE. Ufc, however just in, general
- 41:57Speaker 3: the money stays at the. Top there's very little trickle
- 41:59Speaker 3: down it comes to the money in that. Sport so
- 42:01Speaker 3: it's very interesting and fascinating when you hear about guys how, about,
- 42:07Speaker 3: Yeah i'm worth, MORE i.
- 42:08Speaker 2: Should get paid.
- 42:09Speaker 3: More that's Why Connor gregor hasn't. Fought you, know he
- 42:13Speaker 3: made his money and Oh I'M i mean this. Much
- 42:16Speaker 3: Oh i'm. Cool like there's no there's no need because
- 42:19Speaker 3: the money stays at the top OF, ufc and a
- 42:22Speaker 3: lot of, guys especially the middle tier, guys they don't
- 42:24Speaker 3: get paid a whole.
- 42:25Speaker 4: Lot, WELL i don't know how excited it will be
- 42:31Speaker 4: about fights on T KO espn if it does. Happen
- 42:36Speaker 4: but and, YEAH i don't necessarily want to support the In,
- 42:40Speaker 4: white but again Supporting we're supporting his comebacks left and.
- 42:43Speaker 2: Right you.
- 42:43Speaker 4: Know, yeah again we talked about all The saudi, money
- 42:45Speaker 4: the Corrupt saudi money in. Boxing you, know it can't
- 42:48Speaker 4: really get away from. It there's no ethical consumption in,
- 42:49Speaker 4: capitalism my. God SO i don't, know it's just kind
- 42:53Speaker 4: of hard to. Say but at the end of the, day,
- 42:55Speaker 4: THOUGH i just really like watching. FIGHTS i like watching,
- 42:58Speaker 4: Boxing So i'm not going to say that.
- 43:01Speaker 2: Again IF i am in.
- 43:01Speaker 4: A dive bar And Dana WHITE'S tko boxing is ON,
- 43:05Speaker 4: espn Then i'm not going to be you, know, following paying,
- 43:07Speaker 4: attention following. Fighters maybe somehow there will be a guy
- 43:10Speaker 4: who is such a big deal that gets to break
- 43:13Speaker 4: away from.
- 43:13Speaker 2: It that's kind of the the bigger.
- 43:15Speaker 4: Thing is to to you, know leave leave the the
- 43:19Speaker 4: The Dana white Death star and try to make it somewhere.
- 43:22Speaker 4: Else but kind of, speculating don't need to get into all.
- 43:26Speaker 2: That at this.
- 43:26Speaker 4: Point but, yeah maybe Like connor, McGregor maybe some guy
- 43:31Speaker 4: can make a really shitty whiskey and try to make
- 43:34Speaker 4: money off of that after they.
- 43:35Speaker 2: Retire, absolutely because more money and alcohol than there is. Fighting, yeah.
- 43:39Speaker 5: Exactly so moving, on let's follow up with Pop, pugilism
- 43:46Speaker 5: our recurring segment in which we discussed a, MOVIE tv
- 43:49Speaker 5: show or documentary about.
- 43:50Speaker 4: Boxing, today we have a movie that's quite different than
- 43:53Speaker 4: the ones we've talked about. Before we are Discussing Fat
- 43:56Speaker 4: city from nineteen seventy. Two directed by the Legendary On,
- 44:00Speaker 4: houston the film Starred Stacy keach as washed up Boxer
- 44:04Speaker 4: Billy tully And Jeff bridges The dude himself when he
- 44:07Speaker 4: was a, baby as an upcoming young fighter Named Ernie.
- 44:10Speaker 4: Munger this movie is about, boxers but not about, boxing
- 44:13Speaker 4: is WHAT i would. Say it's more of a dark
- 44:16Speaker 4: drama about poor and in some case desperate people who.
- 44:19Speaker 2: Look to boxing a lot in.
- 44:20Speaker 4: Life SO i love this, Movie i'd love to say a.
- 44:24Speaker 4: Lot but First, jamison give me your thoughts on. This
- 44:26Speaker 4: on this, flame it was.
- 44:27Speaker 3: Cool it was kind of hard to follow along at.
- 44:29Speaker 3: First it was kind of a tough. Watch in, general
- 44:33Speaker 3: it was, cool but to, me one of it was
- 44:36Speaker 3: based back in the, day so it was kind of
- 44:39Speaker 3: hard to. Follow it was free to, watch SO i
- 44:41Speaker 3: definitely appreciate the. Recommendation that was cool to have to
- 44:44Speaker 3: go on, apps just on YouTube on THE. TV i
- 44:46Speaker 3: had to kind of watch twice to kind of like
- 44:49Speaker 3: get more and more details about. It it wasn't a
- 44:52Speaker 3: bad movie at. All like you, said it had boxing in,
- 44:54Speaker 3: it but it wasn't a boxing. Movie whenever you have
- 44:57Speaker 3: a movie set In, Stockton, california one of the worst
- 45:00Speaker 3: places In, america, uh you know it's gonna be some
- 45:03Speaker 3: trial and triplations because that's one of the worst places
- 45:06Speaker 3: that kind of grow up at and try to figure
- 45:08Speaker 3: out out your way. From SO i definitely got. It
- 45:12Speaker 3: but it was just, fast like it was really. Fascinating
- 45:14Speaker 3: it was it was better THAN i, Expected i'll put
- 45:18Speaker 3: it that.
- 45:18Speaker 4: Way, well just for my, EDIFICATION i don't know anything About, Stockton, California,
- 45:23Speaker 4: like can you give me just a breakdown of why.
- 45:25Speaker 2: It's one of the worst. PLACES a lot of, crime
- 45:28Speaker 2: a lot of poor.
- 45:28Speaker 3: People it's close To, sacramento it's. Close It's stockton is
- 45:36Speaker 3: it's where boxers would come. From it's a city where
- 45:40Speaker 3: you it would produce a lot of. Boxers that's a
- 45:43Speaker 3: city where education is for the you, know all the
- 45:48Speaker 3: all the, vastatistics you know how it, goes all the you,
- 45:51Speaker 3: know top five in this top you, know it's one
- 45:54Speaker 3: of those where a world champion would come from because
- 45:56Speaker 3: the hope is all lost except for, boxing ext for.
- 46:00Speaker 3: Sport so it's one of those. Cities and you gotta
- 46:03Speaker 3: be tough to get throw up. There you gotta be,
- 46:06Speaker 3: tough you gotta be, strong you gotta be able to.
- 46:08Speaker 2: Fight so all that makes, sense you know you're telling.
- 46:11Speaker 4: Me that just makes me appreciate this movie a lot
- 46:13Speaker 4: more because it really, it's LIKE i, said it starks
- 46:18Speaker 4: a little, bit a little bit cynical about you, know
- 46:20Speaker 4: the time and trying to get out of a rough.
- 46:23Speaker 4: Situation so let me start. Here there is a style
- 46:28Speaker 4: of semis, movies especially. Dramas they're slow. Burned they don't speed,
- 46:32Speaker 4: spoonfoo they do not spoon feed you what's going. On
- 46:37Speaker 4: BUT i feel like when the movie's, over it's like
- 46:39Speaker 4: it's like you were looking at a tiny piece of
- 46:40Speaker 4: the picture you zoomed, out and it just hits you
- 46:42Speaker 4: like a ton of bricks what the movie was all.
- 46:44Speaker 4: ABOUT i especially felt that recently BECAUSE i watched The
- 46:47Speaker 4: conversation With Gene. HACKMAN i hadn't seen it, ever so
- 46:50Speaker 4: it's kind of the.
- 46:50Speaker 2: Same THING i was. WATCHING i was, like all, right
- 46:51Speaker 2: what's going on?
- 46:52Speaker 4: Here like feeling my way through these, characters the whirl
- 46:54Speaker 4: blah blah, blah and then close to the, end you're,
- 46:56Speaker 4: like it makes the whole movies just kind of come
- 46:59Speaker 4: into And Fat city does that as.
- 47:02Speaker 2: Well Stacy keach is a farm. Worker he.
- 47:05Speaker 4: Encouraged he's a washtup boxer who who gets into farming
- 47:08Speaker 4: because he's not, fighting he's out of. Shape he Encourages
- 47:11Speaker 4: Jeff bridges to get into. Boxing Stacy keaches inspired and
- 47:14Speaker 4: wants to get back into. Fighting but, really the THING
- 47:18Speaker 4: i liked about this most it's refreshing to watch boxers
- 47:23Speaker 4: not end up rich or. Successful this is not a
- 47:25Speaker 4: typical triumph of the human spirit type of. Ending you,
- 47:28Speaker 4: know we talk about a lot of, fighters a lot
- 47:31Speaker 4: of real life fighters who are huge names and make cup.
- 47:33Speaker 2: Lines we're talking.
- 47:34Speaker 4: About floyd, today we talked About Mike, tyson you, Know,
- 47:36Speaker 4: canelo et. Cetera but this movie is a reminder that
- 47:39Speaker 4: there are so many people who fight and fight for a.
- 47:42Speaker 4: Living do not make, it who do not become, famous
- 47:46Speaker 4: who don't even make it out of the, Poorhouse and
- 47:48Speaker 4: it was really cool to see the.
- 47:50Speaker 2: Other side of, it you. Know and here's the.
- 47:52Speaker 4: THING i know, that but BECAUSE i love watching you,
- 47:56Speaker 4: know boxing ON. TV i love doing the show and
- 47:59Speaker 4: talking about these. Guys so we're out there the big.
- 48:00Speaker 4: Names you forget that a lot of people just fight
- 48:03Speaker 4: in their town small, towns not ON, tv trying to
- 48:06Speaker 4: make it. Big and it's kind of it's kind of
- 48:08Speaker 4: like trying to be an. Actor you, know you got
- 48:10Speaker 4: A Brad, pitt you gotta loud. DiCaprio how many dudes
- 48:12Speaker 4: have been grinding trying to get you, know extra work
- 48:15Speaker 4: and trying to write screenplays who just nothing comes of.
- 48:18Speaker 4: It they're working as you, know servers IN la for
- 48:21Speaker 4: for most of their. Lives and there's there's like a
- 48:25Speaker 4: i'd call, it like a killing field of dead, careers
- 48:28Speaker 4: uh in. Boxing SO i really appreciated that that this
- 48:32Speaker 4: movie kind of uh brought that to the. Forefront and,
- 48:36Speaker 4: yeah you know, it it's also cool to see boxing
- 48:41Speaker 4: as LIKE i, said as a way out of a
- 48:44Speaker 4: of a messed up situation because a lot of the
- 48:47Speaker 4: guys that are.
- 48:48Speaker 2: Big they come from from, nothing from, poverty.
- 48:50Speaker 4: From shitty situations where they got to do. It friend
- 48:53Speaker 4: of the, Show treni A. Shoa if you go back
- 48:56Speaker 4: to our interview with, him what did he say. That you,
- 48:58Speaker 4: know there was times when you Know worrid that couldn't
- 49:00Speaker 4: pay the, rent his family couldn't pay the rent when
- 49:02Speaker 4: he was a, teenager and he went went all in
- 49:05Speaker 4: on boxing and is trying to make a name for.
- 49:07Speaker 2: Himself you, know solid young.
- 49:09Speaker 4: KID i expect a lot from, him but you, know
- 49:13Speaker 4: it's just the reality of the. Situation you, know you
- 49:15Speaker 4: a lot of the guys that make a big do
- 49:17Speaker 4: it because they do not want to go back to
- 49:19Speaker 4: come in from.
- 49:20Speaker 2: Nothing so there's a lot of there's a lot of
- 49:24Speaker 2: elements of race in.
- 49:25Speaker 3: This movie too that bestly back then it made all
- 49:29Speaker 3: the sense because back then the seventies was still the,
- 49:32Speaker 3: seventies like you, know we're still going through a. Lot
- 49:35Speaker 3: so now it definitely made. Sense BUT i want to
- 49:36Speaker 3: talk to something you just brought. Up most people out
- 49:39Speaker 3: there don't know that there's four round fights and six
- 49:42Speaker 3: round fights in. Ballrooms there's a lot of smaller fights
- 49:45Speaker 3: around the country that are ON tv that don't make
- 49:49Speaker 3: the newspaper where you have guys literally fighting for. Survival
- 49:53Speaker 3: there's guys fighting to the starter, career keep a career,
- 49:56Speaker 3: going and it doesn't get talked. About and old people
- 49:59Speaker 3: were regular. PEOPLE i know of someone who fought a
- 50:02Speaker 3: four round fight before AND i went because that's what friends.
- 50:05Speaker 3: Do and it changes it changes perspective a, lot, because
- 50:10Speaker 3: like you, mentioned most people think of the superstars when
- 50:13Speaker 3: it comes to.
- 50:13Speaker 2: Box you don't think of the regular, guys the rank and.
- 50:15Speaker 2: File you just. Don't so when.
- 50:17Speaker 3: You, think LIKE i, said this movie is a different
- 50:19Speaker 3: perspective because most of the movies have been around superstars
- 50:21Speaker 3: have been about guys who are, Famous hall Of fame,
- 50:24Speaker 3: fighters et.
- 50:25Speaker 2: Cetera this is kind of, like hey.
- 50:27Speaker 3: Man the run of the mill guy that might get
- 50:30Speaker 3: a shot on someone's, card but he's not fighting anytime
- 50:34Speaker 3: before around.
- 50:36Speaker 2: The main, event to you know WHAT i. Mean so
- 50:37Speaker 2: it's just, Different like it's way.
- 50:39Speaker 3: Different but, no there's a lot of fighters out there
- 50:41Speaker 3: that you will never know of that are constantly fighting
- 50:44Speaker 3: once a quarter because they still love it and they
- 50:47Speaker 3: feel in their hard hearts.
- 50:49Speaker 2: That they're fired away from getting where're trying to get.
- 50:51Speaker 4: To well and really there's so, many you, know opportunities
- 50:56Speaker 4: to come to just regular, guys guys with. Jobs like you,
- 50:59Speaker 4: said you know what could. Happen it's it's never it's never.
- 51:03Speaker 4: Likely becoming a superstar in any, sport in any in
- 51:06Speaker 4: acting is that it's never. Likely but when you.
- 51:09Speaker 2: Hear these, stories you, think, well why not.
- 51:11Speaker 4: Me it's not that the, people the fighters don't have,
- 51:13Speaker 4: skill because you got to have the skill to be up.
- 51:15Speaker 4: There it's just right, place right, time and a lot
- 51:18Speaker 4: of it is so much. Luck you could be the
- 51:20Speaker 4: best fighter in the world and just never make, it
- 51:23Speaker 4: and you can be an okay dude that just kind
- 51:25Speaker 4: of got an. Opportunity and, uh you, know like the
- 51:28Speaker 4: the keep going back to The british electrician who fought
- 51:32Speaker 4: to Court stevens in the last.
- 51:33Speaker 2: Minute you, know he.
- 51:34Speaker 4: Lost AS i said, BEFORE i remember his. NAME i
- 51:37Speaker 4: just don't feel like telling you what it. Is but you,
- 51:40Speaker 4: know after that he got signed With Eddie, hern you,
- 51:42Speaker 4: know because he made a name for himself getting out
- 51:45Speaker 4: there on a big, stage short notice shit like. That you,
- 51:47Speaker 4: know not to say that guy's career is gonna gonna go,
- 51:50Speaker 4: anywhere but crap like that happens all the, time SO
- 51:54Speaker 4: i can SEE i can understand that mindset of, well
- 51:58Speaker 4: if it's just the right person happened to be in the,
- 52:00Speaker 4: Room i'm at the right place WHEN i get that phone,
- 52:02Speaker 4: Call i'm gonna keep, going you. Know but it's something
- 52:05Speaker 4: it's something THAT i THAT i, understand BUT i don't
- 52:07Speaker 4: because WHEN i was in my doing my boxing, training
- 52:11Speaker 4: AND i was lean and fit as, hell and you,
- 52:13Speaker 4: KNOW i was really loving, it AND i was in the.
- 52:14Speaker 4: Peak if you tell, me, hey do you want to
- 52:17Speaker 4: get in a ring and like a small showcase with another,
- 52:19Speaker 4: guy you, know in, PUBLIC i would have said, yes
- 52:22Speaker 4: like one hundred, percent nothing, professional nothing. Major BUT i
- 52:25Speaker 4: would have, said, yeah you, know for four, ROUNDS i do.
- 52:28Speaker 4: IT i train as hard AS i could and go for.
- 52:30Speaker 4: It BUT i never needed to pay the bills with
- 52:33Speaker 4: boxing like with, fighting you know WHAT i. Mean it
- 52:36Speaker 4: was something THAT i thought would be a lot of fun.
- 52:38Speaker 2: And would have loved to.
- 52:39Speaker 4: Do but you just the conversation just can't be the
- 52:43Speaker 4: same thing as somebody that's gonna go hungry if they
- 52:45Speaker 4: don't get in that.
- 52:46Speaker 2: Ring you.
- 52:46Speaker 3: Know, no, Man, also like here's a thing there's always
- 52:51Speaker 3: hope with. Boxing boxing is the one sport where your
- 52:54Speaker 3: career can change that. Night it's the only sport that
- 52:58Speaker 3: we know that one punch can change an entire. Career
- 53:03Speaker 3: and as long as you have that opportunity in your mind's,
- 53:07Speaker 3: mind you.
- 53:08Speaker 2: Feel that you're a punch away from making your.
- 53:10Speaker 3: Career so as a, boxer if you grew, up you,
- 53:14Speaker 3: trained you, fought you may not have made it to
- 53:17Speaker 3: where you wanted to go or thought you could have.
- 53:18Speaker 3: Gone but you're one somebody pulling out of a, fight
- 53:22Speaker 3: last minute away from taking a, fight and all you
- 53:25Speaker 3: need is one.
- 53:26Speaker 2: Punch it will change. It it will change a whole. Career.
- 53:29Speaker 2: Man LIKE i, Said i'll never forget.
- 53:31Speaker 3: It LIKE i don't know what happened With Danny garcia
- 53:34Speaker 3: if he didn't beat A, MIRAKAN i don't know what would.
- 53:36Speaker 3: HAPPENED i don't know if his crew would play out
- 53:39Speaker 3: the same because.
- 53:40Speaker 2: He was looked at as a.
- 53:42Speaker 3: Afterthought remember a Mirror collins bought to Fight Floyd, mayweather
- 53:46Speaker 3: And Danny garcia was just on the roadbump to, that
- 53:52Speaker 3: and he became the road bump that popped all tires
- 53:55Speaker 3: and he had a hell of a, career you, know
- 53:57Speaker 3: Borderline hall Of fame. Career those are things that happen
- 54:01Speaker 3: Like that's why boxing is such a unique. Sport that's
- 54:04Speaker 3: probably why we love, it because your fortune's literally changed
- 54:08Speaker 3: with one or two punches in one.
- 54:09Speaker 2: Night.
- 54:11Speaker 4: YEAH I another THING i loved about this movie too
- 54:15Speaker 4: Is Stacy keach's, promoter a guy Named. Rubin you, know
- 54:18Speaker 4: Once Stacy keach gets back into, fighting he has a
- 54:20Speaker 4: very successful fight against a very well regarded Strong mexican,
- 54:24Speaker 4: boxer very, specifically and also there's talk, of you know
- 54:28Speaker 4: how there's elements there of, like, well you got this
- 54:32Speaker 4: white guy being in This mexican guy who's highly, favored
- 54:34Speaker 4: and how that seems to be a big point in his.
- 54:37Speaker 4: Favor but at the, end the, Promoter, rubin Pays Stacy
- 54:40Speaker 4: keach only one hundred bucks after a. Win, stacey he
- 54:43Speaker 4: just pissed, off Saying i'm owed more than. This but
- 54:46Speaker 4: then his promoter, Says i've been advancing you money to
- 54:48Speaker 4: pay for you, know hotels he been staying and you,
- 54:51Speaker 4: know taking his, cutback WHICH i DON'T i understand as,
- 54:54Speaker 4: WELL i understand both. Sides bobby hits, himself said the
- 54:56Speaker 4: promoter is always the bad guy in these, situations but
- 55:00Speaker 4: in this case it REALLY i, mean you know you're
- 55:02Speaker 4: you're there for the, Fight Stacy, keag you know you want,
- 55:04Speaker 4: it but you also had to get there because of
- 55:07Speaker 4: the good grace of your of your, manager so and
- 55:10Speaker 4: shady promoters and promoters getting screwed, over, sorry fighters getting
- 55:14Speaker 4: screwed over or something that we're talking about to this.
- 55:15Speaker 2: Day like literally to.
- 55:17Speaker 4: Day SO i really like. That another elements of, race you.
- 55:22Speaker 4: Know Susan tyrrell Plays Oma Lee, greer a complete disaster
- 55:26Speaker 4: of a, woman a hard, drinking loudvouse who will fly
- 55:29Speaker 4: off the handle.
- 55:30Speaker 2: Anytime kind of a type of woman if we're being.
- 55:32Speaker 4: Honest but she has a she has a black, partner
- 55:36Speaker 4: black boyfriend she cares. About he gets sent to jail
- 55:39Speaker 4: for a. While she goes on a rant at the,
- 55:41Speaker 4: bar of course about how the white race has, declined
- 55:45Speaker 4: but it doesn't to, me and you, know your mind
- 55:48Speaker 4: has may, vary but doesn't come off as like a racist,
- 55:50Speaker 4: rant but more is like the reality of how the
- 55:53Speaker 4: white centric world is. Changing not that the sixties and
- 55:56Speaker 4: seventies were a great time for black people in this
- 55:58Speaker 4: country by any, means but this movie is from the,
- 56:00Speaker 4: seventies based on a novel from nineteen sixty, nine and
- 56:02Speaker 4: that's only a few years after The Civil Rights, Act
- 56:05Speaker 4: so the conversation about you not white people's role in
- 56:07Speaker 4: society was very, different AND i think it bleeds into the.
- 56:10Speaker 4: Story and, again race issues in boxing are things we're
- 56:13Speaker 4: talking about this. Podcast that's the conceit of Why we're
- 56:17Speaker 4: The Mixed Company. Podcast two different voices from two different
- 56:21Speaker 4: races and you, know bring up these issues in professional.
- 56:24Speaker 2: FIGHTING i really loved.
- 56:26Speaker 4: It the film kind of really still resonates to this
- 56:29Speaker 4: day with these elements that are still still there and
- 56:33Speaker 4: it's just it's just.
- 56:34Speaker 2: A really really well acted.
- 56:36Speaker 4: Movie Against Susan, Tyrrell my, god there's a lot of
- 56:39Speaker 4: there's a lot of.
- 56:40Speaker 2: Yelling in this.
- 56:41Speaker 4: Movie a lot of flying off the handle in this.
- 56:43Speaker 4: Movie very dramatic and a little anxiety and seeing when
- 56:46Speaker 4: you just see two people about to get into a
- 56:48Speaker 4: fight and every little thing sets them, Off it's, like
- 56:50Speaker 4: what AM i watching my.
- 56:51Speaker 2: Parents in this? Movie? Right but, YEAH i, mean any
- 56:55Speaker 2: final thoughts on this before you rate? It, NAH i
- 56:57Speaker 2: think it. WAS i think it was a good. Movie good.
- 56:59Speaker 3: CHOICE i have at three out of. Four personally, MYSELF
- 57:03Speaker 3: i think it was a really solid. Movie LIKE i,
- 57:05Speaker 3: said it was an older, movie so it was a slower.
- 57:07Speaker 3: Burn and AS i watched last night AND i watched
- 57:10Speaker 3: it today at, work and it was more of a slower,
- 57:12Speaker 3: burn but it was good.
- 57:14Speaker 2: Though it was done like the movie was shot very. Well,
- 57:18Speaker 2: Yes and that's the thing.
- 57:20Speaker 4: Too you got to be in the mood for a slow,
- 57:22Speaker 4: burn you, know you can't just put one on any,
- 57:24Speaker 4: time at least for, Me i'll say. That you, know
- 57:27Speaker 4: Sometimes i'm in the mood for some stupid nineties action
- 57:31Speaker 4: vandamn thing with explosions and car, crashes AND i don't
- 57:35Speaker 4: want to Watch Fat city that, day, Right but when
- 57:38Speaker 4: you're in the mood for something like that and you
- 57:39Speaker 4: really want to want to get engaged in the, STORY
- 57:42Speaker 4: i think this was. Great i'm going How i'm, going,
- 57:44Speaker 4: like out of four, Gloves i'm getting like a three
- 57:46Speaker 4: three point seventy. Five, OH i really like. THIS i
- 57:50Speaker 4: it really. Resonated and again it's so different from you,
- 57:54Speaker 4: know boxing movies watch where especially with biopicks about the major,
- 57:58Speaker 4: fighters they end on a triumphant, note you. Know cinderelevan
- 58:04Speaker 4: cinderellvand you know his whole. Thing he was poor as,
- 58:06Speaker 4: shit he had retired to. Boxing but the big finale
- 58:09Speaker 4: is he comes back to glory with by by returning to.
- 58:13Speaker 2: Boxing and it's not always like. That it's really not
- 58:16Speaker 2: always like, That so it's nice to see the other
- 58:19Speaker 2: side of that.
- 58:19Speaker 4: Car so definitely check it. Out strong recommend for, me
- 58:23Speaker 4: AND i think that's gonna do it for. Today, Jamison
- 58:25Speaker 4: where can people find? You on social media And?
