Transcript
- 0:00Speaker 1: Now. Look, somebody who is definitely pretty concerned after what
- 0:04Speaker 1: went on at their business overnight is the very Springs
- 0:08Speaker 1: Tavern owner Ian Sloan. Many of you will know Sloany.
- 0:11Speaker 1: He's a very good bloke. Good morning to you, Sloaney, Katie.
- 0:15Speaker 2: How are you not too bad? Mate?
- 0:17Speaker 1: I have seen the vision of your business being ram
- 0:20Speaker 1: rated last night.
- 0:22Speaker 2: It is atrocious, like animals, It's terrible. It's like you
- 0:27Speaker 2: got swarmped it is.
- 0:29Speaker 3: Yeah, it happened, as I think you said before. There's
- 0:34Speaker 3: two stars still here at closing time, just cashing up
- 0:37Speaker 3: and they were in the gaming room and I heard
- 0:39Speaker 3: the crash and they went straight to the office, which
- 0:42Speaker 3: is sort of the procedures, straight to the office, locked
- 0:43Speaker 3: the door, they got on the cameras. There was nine
- 0:48Speaker 3: nine guys come through the bottle shop and they've they've
- 0:51Speaker 3: just releached the place. And then they got into the
- 0:54Speaker 3: cash as well. And yeah, it's horrible. It's horrible for
- 0:57Speaker 3: the guys who are working. You know what he deserves.
- 1:00Speaker 2: And who was at work was were they? Was one
- 1:03Speaker 2: of them? Your daughter?
- 1:05Speaker 1: Yeah?
- 1:06Speaker 2: Mate? Is she okay? Are they both okay?
- 1:11Speaker 3: Yeah? They're good. Yeah, they're good.
- 1:14Speaker 1: Oh, I really feel for you guys. I I can't
- 1:20Speaker 1: imagine how frightening it must be for you thinking of
- 1:23Speaker 1: what went on last night and knowing that your that
- 1:27Speaker 1: your daughter and another staff member were there, because I like,
- 1:31Speaker 1: I know that you guys treat that place like everybody
- 1:33Speaker 1: there is family, so it would have been devastating for.
- 1:37Speaker 3: You there was. But you know, I'd just like to
- 1:41Speaker 3: acknowledge the girls did a great job life night. They
- 1:43Speaker 3: did exactly what they needed to do. You know, the
- 1:45Speaker 3: money and the stock and the damage, that's all stuff
- 1:47Speaker 3: we can fix.
- 1:47Speaker 1: But yeah, making sure that they're safe and that they
- 1:52Speaker 1: are okay is is the main thing, and they would
- 1:55Speaker 1: have been pretty terrified. I'd suspect watching that vision, mate,
- 1:58Speaker 1: I've had a.
- 1:59Speaker 2: Look at it.
- 1:59Speaker 1: It's you know, when when the vehicle basically goes through
- 2:05Speaker 1: those roller doors, you see the damage to the stock,
- 2:09Speaker 1: and then you see people just helping themselves.
- 2:12Speaker 3: Like cut up in pubs for twenty five years up
- 2:15Speaker 3: in Darwin, and then this is and we've we've had
- 2:17Speaker 3: our own leon and I've had our own business for
- 2:18Speaker 3: you know, sixteen years, different businesses. This is the worst
- 2:22Speaker 3: I've ever seen, you know, so so blatant and they
- 2:27Speaker 3: they were here for six minutes, So the girls were
- 2:29Speaker 3: locked in the office for six minutes, obviously terrified, and
- 2:32Speaker 3: they took their time. And you've seen the footage. A
- 2:35Speaker 3: lot of them weren't wearing masks, they weren't wearing gloves,
- 2:38Speaker 3: they weren't wearing shoes. They don't they don't care. There's
- 2:41Speaker 3: there's no consequences. They obviously they just don't care. We've
- 2:44Speaker 3: got plenty of fingerprints with one of them caught himself
- 2:47Speaker 3: quite badly on the roller door, and I hope it hurts,
- 2:51Speaker 3: but you know, we've got plenty of d NAM, we've
- 2:53Speaker 3: got plenty of camera footage, and the place were fantastic
- 2:55Speaker 3: at place were here within a couple probably fifteen twenty
- 2:58Speaker 3: minutes of recall than one of our managers's done. YALTI
- 3:02Speaker 3: isier contaminants. I wasn't far behind them. So the police
- 3:05Speaker 3: were fantastic forensics for right quickly. You know, we both
- 3:08Speaker 3: four o'clock that they've done a lot of work and
- 3:09Speaker 3: we're able to tidy outfit. As you can see. You've
- 3:12Speaker 3: seen the footage. It's and they've they've made a real
- 3:14Speaker 3: math and we're you know, it's just it's horrible for
- 3:17Speaker 3: the stuff, you know, toughly family.
- 3:22Speaker 1: Yeah, oh made I feel for you and Leah and
- 3:26Speaker 1: the whole team out there.
- 3:28Speaker 2: You know, you guys run a fantastic business.
- 3:31Speaker 1: Everybody that walks through that door is welcomed in a
- 3:34Speaker 1: way that you know that I think is just wonderful.
- 3:37Speaker 2: You treat the whole community in the same way.
- 3:40Speaker 1: And like I said earlier, and like you've just said,
- 3:43Speaker 1: your team out there, you treat each other like your family.
- 3:47Speaker 1: So I can hear you know, I can hear the
- 3:49Speaker 1: emotion in your voice and rightly so. How much damage
- 3:53Speaker 1: do you think has been done? From a financial perspective.
- 3:58Speaker 3: I've done some rough co relations. I think we're up
- 4:00Speaker 3: to those fifty thousand dollars taking the cash, the stock,
- 4:05Speaker 3: the damage to the stock, the damage to the roller door.
- 4:09Speaker 3: So it's it's going to be at least fifty grand.
- 4:12Speaker 3: But like I said before, none of that matters, you know. Yeah,
- 4:18Speaker 3: ninety's the start for our face.
- 4:22Speaker 1: Oh mate, I'm bloody heartbroken listening to this morning.
- 4:27Speaker 3: I know I told you about crocodile, I know, and.
- 4:31Speaker 1: You know what, I think everybody's going to be pretty
- 4:33Speaker 1: heartbroken listening to this because you've actually made it really.
- 4:37Speaker 2: Very a very personal.
- 4:40Speaker 1: Story for everybody in the sense that your daughter's in
- 4:42Speaker 1: there then in that room, and the other female staff
- 4:46Speaker 1: member in the office locked in there while this is
- 4:49Speaker 1: all happening. It would have been utterly frightening for them.
- 4:53Speaker 1: You guys must be so glad that they are okay.
- 4:58Speaker 3: I'm so glad they're okay. I'm so angry that the
- 5:00Speaker 3: people have done it. You put us in this position.
- 5:03Speaker 3: And yeah, and like I said, the girls did a
- 5:05Speaker 3: fantastic job last night, and you know, and they did
- 5:07Speaker 3: exactly what they needed to do. We don't need to
- 5:08Speaker 3: see heroes about it. Just get yourself in the office,
- 5:11Speaker 3: be safe. And yeah, there's a financial damage that you know,
- 5:16Speaker 3: we can insurance will help with that. But the main
- 5:19Speaker 3: thing is that stuff were okay, and that's you know,
- 5:21Speaker 3: these two girls are you know they when we started
- 5:24Speaker 3: taking on our role. They're doing a great job. And
- 5:25Speaker 3: I would hate to you know, this is the impression
- 5:28Speaker 3: they have a hospitality after the incident last night. But
- 5:31Speaker 3: we will make sure they get whatever counseling and whatever
- 5:33Speaker 3: support they need to get them through this. And you know,
- 5:37Speaker 3: we've got Keith ourven player mail, everything is good, branking
- 5:40Speaker 3: at the front and everything will be good today.
- 5:42Speaker 1: Well, and Sloaney, do you know what, It's got nothing
- 5:45Speaker 1: to do with the hospitality industry that I know is
- 5:48Speaker 1: so tight knit and work so well together. It's got
- 5:51Speaker 1: everything to do with the lawlessness that we're seeing on
- 5:54Speaker 1: the streets, you know, and the fact that you've got
- 5:56Speaker 1: people breaking in and just helping themselves is disgusting.
- 6:01Speaker 3: It's disgusting. And I've said before they don't seek the care.
- 6:04Speaker 3: They're not wearing gloves, they're not wearing hats or covering
- 6:06Speaker 3: their faces. They just don't seem the care. There's no consequences,
- 6:10Speaker 3: and you know, somebody needs to have the balls to
- 6:13Speaker 3: start doing stuff about this, you know, the politicians, and
- 6:16Speaker 3: I was one, and that they need to start listening
- 6:18Speaker 3: to people like you and listen to what's really going
- 6:21Speaker 3: on out there. They live in their you know, their
- 6:22Speaker 3: white house in town, and I don't think they have
- 6:24Speaker 3: an idea of what's really going on out there, and
- 6:26Speaker 3: they need to start paying attention to people like you
- 6:28Speaker 3: and listening to your show and listening to the territories
- 6:31Speaker 3: are saying, because this is this is bullshit. What's happening.
- 6:34Speaker 2: It is absolute bullshit.
- 6:36Speaker 1: And like the thing that I always think to myself
- 6:39Speaker 1: is you are you and your family are good, hard
- 6:41Speaker 1: working people that have chosen to make the Northern Territory
- 6:45Speaker 1: your home and your whole family is here. You know,
- 6:48Speaker 1: my in laws got broken into earlier in the week,
- 6:51Speaker 1: same situation.
- 6:51Speaker 2: As you said. The police did a phenomenal job.
- 6:54Speaker 1: But you feel like your home and you like, you
- 6:56Speaker 1: know that's you and I both of you know our
- 6:59Speaker 1: family's impacted yours on a much more extreme level. But
- 7:02Speaker 1: you just think something's got to change here. It's not
- 7:05Speaker 1: good enough.
- 7:06Speaker 3: Nothing does have to change. And you know the people
- 7:09Speaker 3: who have the ability to make that change me to
- 7:12Speaker 3: sit up and listen and you know, see what's going on,
- 7:15Speaker 3: because nobody should have to go through what we went
- 7:18Speaker 3: through this morning.
- 7:19Speaker 1: Nobody, nobody should, Ian Sloan, I always appreciate your time.
- 7:24Speaker 1: I wish it was on a much more positive note.
- 7:26Speaker 1: But I'm pretty sure I'm out there mate for the
- 7:28Speaker 1: for Melbourne Cup anyway, so I'll be able to give
- 7:31Speaker 1: you guys, your daughter, Leah, everybody a hug. And yeah,
- 7:36Speaker 1: I really appreciate you having a chat to me this morning.
- 7:40Speaker 3: Thanks Katie appreciate thank you,
