- 0:10Speaker 1: The Tigroon Prix wasn't just a season opener. In my words,
- 0:14Speaker 1: it was a statement. The margins are raised thin, the
- 0:17Speaker 1: aggression is turned up, and there are writers who have
- 0:20Speaker 1: come into twenty twenty six with something to prove. We
- 0:24Speaker 1: had penalties, pressure, heat, chaos and crashes, and if this
- 0:28Speaker 1: is how we're starting twenty twenty six, we are in
- 0:30Speaker 1: for absolute madness. This is the Pit Talk Podcast sponsored
- 0:35Speaker 1: by Shannon's Insurance. I'm your host, Rinita Vanmulin. And when
- 0:39Speaker 1: Buiram delivers chaos, there's only one man who can turn
- 0:42Speaker 1: it into poetry. The Motor GP Wordsmith Matt Clayton. Matt,
- 0:47Speaker 1: have you recovered from the Tigron Prix yet, because I
- 0:50Speaker 1: sure as hell haven't.
- 0:51Speaker 2: It's funny renda hi to everyone listening as well. You
- 0:54Speaker 2: made it sound like it was this crazy, chaotic weekend.
- 0:57Speaker 2: I'm not sure what you're talking about. Marco Perzecki, Cavin
- 0:59Speaker 2: just the favorite. Marco Pozeki was on pole. Marco Pozeki
- 1:02Speaker 2: won the Grand Prix. I have no idea what you're
- 1:03Speaker 2: talking about. It was the most run of the mill, boring,
- 1:06Speaker 2: predictable race weekend of all time. Actually it was not
- 1:09Speaker 2: because the journey from A to B was not linear,
- 1:13Speaker 2: and we have got no shortage of things to talk
- 1:15Speaker 2: about in this week's episode, do we It's crazy.
- 1:18Speaker 1: Matt and I we conversate like all we can do
- 1:21Speaker 1: is everything the news of breaking and whatnot. And there
- 1:23Speaker 1: was one point yesterday when Matt said, do you know
- 1:26Speaker 1: something about this? And I said, I haven't heard yet.
- 1:28Speaker 1: He goes, don't worry, I've got fifty other things I
- 1:30Speaker 1: can write about right now.
- 1:32Speaker 2: It's so true. It was one of those weekends where
- 1:35Speaker 2: you're sitting there and that the episoute worst case scenario
- 1:38Speaker 2: in my position is you're like, oh, there's nothing much
- 1:40Speaker 2: to say here, and you've got space to fill and
- 1:42Speaker 2: deadlines to hit. Yesterday was like, well, there's going to
- 1:44Speaker 2: be five things that hit the cutting room floor here,
- 1:46Speaker 2: and they're all good. So the strength of a story
- 1:48Speaker 2: is generally by what doesn't make the cut in the end,
- 1:51Speaker 2: but yes, certainly a lot of talking points behind the
- 1:54Speaker 2: what turned out to be very predictable winner at the front.
- 1:57Speaker 1: I mean, it's exciting for a prillier and we can
- 1:59Speaker 1: touch on that, but let's go through the whole weekend.
- 2:02Speaker 1: Let's go from the start because I feel like there's
- 2:04Speaker 1: so much to unpack her for me straight away, I
- 2:08Speaker 1: want to go Okay, Yeah, bes was fast all weekend,
- 2:11Speaker 1: but where was Peco all weekend? Not even making it
- 2:14Speaker 1: into Q two after we've heard from the Jucati camp
- 2:17Speaker 1: of Peco is back.
- 2:19Speaker 2: Yeah, it was a weird one for him. That the
- 2:21Speaker 2: weirdest session of the whole weekend was Friday afternoon because
- 2:24Speaker 2: it looked like it was going to absolutely throw it
- 2:26Speaker 2: down with rain. And I mean, you've been in that
- 2:28Speaker 2: part of the world before. It doesn't drizzle there. It
- 2:30Speaker 2: tends to be nothing or completely biblical. And you had
- 2:33Speaker 2: a lot of people sort of second guessing when they
- 2:35Speaker 2: should do their runs. In that Friday practice session. A
- 2:37Speaker 2: few people got caught out thinking the rain was coming
- 2:39Speaker 2: in early. There were some people doing their best laps
- 2:41Speaker 2: with spots of rain on the visors. It's so hot there,
- 2:44Speaker 2: of course, that the rain basically evaporates as soon as
- 2:46Speaker 2: it hits you, so it's not really an issue like
- 2:48Speaker 2: it is other places. And he was just one of
- 2:50Speaker 2: those guys on the wrong side of the coin on Friday.
- 2:54Speaker 2: And we know now with this format with motor GP
- 2:56Speaker 2: that your entire weekend can be made or broken on
- 3:01Speaker 2: Friday afternoon. It's very very rare that you can extract
- 3:04Speaker 2: yourself from a difficult situation on a Friday afternoon. One
- 3:08Speaker 2: guy who did was Ralphernandez in Q one on Saturday.
- 3:11Speaker 2: We'll get to him a little bit later, but the
- 3:13Speaker 2: die was kind of cast for banyaira a little bit
- 3:15Speaker 2: because of what happened on Friday, and because do Catty
- 3:18Speaker 2: just don't have this baked in advantage that they've had
- 3:21Speaker 2: in the past. I mean, you remember, even in twenty
- 3:23Speaker 2: four when he had that incredible season. Very often he'd
- 3:26Speaker 2: be in Q one, he'd have a bit of a
- 3:28Speaker 2: ropey Friday, and then he'd comes through a Q one,
- 3:30Speaker 2: qualify really well and go and win the Grand Prix
- 3:32Speaker 2: or at least finish on the podium. Ducati doesn't have
- 3:35Speaker 2: that luxury now because they don't have that dominance that
- 3:38Speaker 2: they did before. And you know, even before he got
- 3:42Speaker 2: stuck in Q one, he was probably the third or
- 3:45Speaker 2: fourth best to Caddie over the course of the weekend.
- 3:47Speaker 2: It was a weird one. It was a bit of
- 3:49Speaker 2: a specific one. Unlike last year. I don't think this
- 3:52Speaker 2: is going to be a trend with him. I think
- 3:53Speaker 2: he will. He showed enough in the preseason right where
- 3:56Speaker 2: I think he's going to be okay longer term. But
- 3:59Speaker 2: you know, just when we needed a race weekend from
- 4:01Speaker 2: him just sort of quiet in that narrative from last year,
- 4:03Speaker 2: we certainly didn't get it, did we.
- 4:05Speaker 1: Even listening to his post race debriefs, he was so
- 4:09Speaker 1: deflated and it almost felt like a repeat of last year.
- 4:12Speaker 1: But one thing I heard him say, and I think
- 4:15Speaker 1: it might have been a couple of others, is we
- 4:17Speaker 1: know that you Caddy were known for harnessing the power
- 4:19Speaker 1: of the rear tire, but it just seemed like this
- 4:22Speaker 1: weekend they couldn't, which we know everybody on the grid couldn't,
- 4:26Speaker 1: but it seemed like Peco really struggled with that. He
- 4:29Speaker 1: was saying it was spinning in fifth gear going down
- 4:31Speaker 1: the streets, is that his bike was lighting up like
- 4:34Speaker 1: a Christmas tree, which I.
- 4:35Speaker 2: Thought, great quote, great quote, great quote from Peco.
- 4:39Speaker 1: But it just seemed like he was lost. It seemed
- 4:43Speaker 1: like the first session on Friday, Okay, yeah, Peco, here
- 4:45Speaker 1: we go, he's good, he is back, and then he
- 4:48Speaker 1: got lost again.
- 4:50Speaker 2: Yeah. I think that's one of those things too. You
- 4:51Speaker 2: remember that this track has that very specific reattire that
- 4:54Speaker 2: they already used three times a year, that harder case
- 4:56Speaker 2: and I think it's Thailand, Indonesia and Austria memory serves,
- 5:00Speaker 2: and it is a different tire. It's not a tire
- 5:03Speaker 2: that's for everybody. You remember last year in Indonesia when
- 5:06Speaker 2: they used it all of a sudden, like fermin Aldager
- 5:08Speaker 2: was the most unbeatable rider in Motor GP because he
- 5:11Speaker 2: could deal with the spin. Because afterwards he said he
- 5:13Speaker 2: just basically wrote it like a motor two bike for
- 5:15Speaker 2: the entire weekend. So it's a specific set of circumstances.
- 5:19Speaker 2: It's a baking hot race track. I mean you know
- 5:22Speaker 2: there that the heat is just unlike anything you could
- 5:24Speaker 2: ever experience. It was fifty five degree track temps on
- 5:27Speaker 2: Sunday and so it literally just became this war of
- 5:30Speaker 2: attrition at the end. And there's certain guys that deal
- 5:33Speaker 2: with that particular tire and there's certain guys that don't.
- 5:35Speaker 2: And I think Banyaya will be pretty pleased that it's
- 5:38Speaker 2: one that we only used three times a year and
- 5:40Speaker 2: not twenty times a year, because he doesn't have to
- 5:42Speaker 2: see it for a while.
- 5:44Speaker 1: You said fifty five degree track temp. Shit, I just
- 5:46Speaker 1: want to digress for one second. The show that they
- 5:51Speaker 1: was put on at the beginning, and we saw the dances,
- 5:53Speaker 1: and we saw the musicians and the kid lit all quire.
- 5:56Speaker 1: But my thought was, I know how hot that circuit is.
- 6:00Speaker 1: He just didn't have shoes on and they were standing
- 6:01Speaker 1: on the asphalt. Can I just like take my hat
- 6:04Speaker 1: off to those guys for a second because burning feet?
- 6:07Speaker 2: Yeah? Yeah, whatever, they're being paid, they need they need
- 6:10Speaker 2: double After that, that was extreme, extreme workplace practice.
- 6:14Speaker 1: As we were say, yes, sticking with the Jucati theme
- 6:17Speaker 1: just for a second. So moving from one side the
- 6:19Speaker 1: garage the other. Mark Marquez, Now we knew Mark was
- 6:22Speaker 1: coming into this weekend, not necessarily one hundred percent. He's
- 6:25Speaker 1: been very open about that the whole time. We saw
- 6:29Speaker 1: in the sprint him taking advantage, putting this pressure on
- 6:32Speaker 1: and everybody was saying this leading up to the sprint, Oh,
- 6:34Speaker 1: he's going to put the pressure on Marco. He's really
- 6:37Speaker 1: going to do that. If Marco doesn't win, it's because
- 6:39Speaker 1: of an incident. But then we had the whole debucle
- 6:43Speaker 1: on Sunday with him running over the curb. It turned four,
- 6:47Speaker 1: buckling the rim, creating a puncher, and then going from
- 6:50Speaker 1: this high with the Battle of Pedro and him getting
- 6:54Speaker 1: his elbows out and being like I'm Mark marquees In
- 6:56Speaker 1: in Mark's version of it, to then somehow survive the
- 7:00Speaker 1: crash on Sunday. What a turbulent weekend for Mark's first
- 7:04Speaker 1: Grand Prix race of the year.
- 7:05Speaker 2: Yeah, first time back. You know you missed the last
- 7:07Speaker 2: five of last year with that shoulder surgery. Strange, maybe
- 7:11Speaker 2: slightly strange opinion or bounce this one off you. I
- 7:13Speaker 2: actually think he's one of the bigger winners out of
- 7:14Speaker 2: the weekend, and that may sound odd for it, but
- 7:17Speaker 2: for a few reasons. He's nowhere near fully fit right,
- 7:19Speaker 2: and we know we've got a long break between the
- 7:21Speaker 2: next race in Brazil. This was always going to be
- 7:24Speaker 2: the difficult one. We knew that his final test in
- 7:27Speaker 2: Thailand he's been suffering with a stomach bark. He had
- 7:30Speaker 2: three crashes at that test. It all looked a bit
- 7:32Speaker 2: fraud coming into the race weekend. As you said, he'd
- 7:34Speaker 2: been saying, look, I'm not quite ready to go yet.
- 7:36Speaker 2: I'm nowhere near one hundred percent. You look at what
- 7:39Speaker 2: he did in the two races over the course of
- 7:41Speaker 2: the weekend. He just about won a sprint and probably
- 7:45Speaker 2: was going to finish on a podium in the Grand
- 7:47Speaker 2: Prix with the late race pace that we know that
- 7:49Speaker 2: he's got on a weekend where the other ducats, written
- 7:52Speaker 2: by people who were a damn sight fitter than he was,
- 7:55Speaker 2: were kind of nowhere for the course of the weekend.
- 7:57Speaker 2: So yes, he's only taken nine points out this weekend.
- 8:01Speaker 2: We will never see a worse version of Mark this
- 8:04Speaker 2: year than I think that we saw this weekend because
- 8:06Speaker 2: he was underdone, because he hadn't had the match fitness,
- 8:09Speaker 2: if you like, and because of just circumstances like you know,
- 8:12Speaker 2: crack wheel rims and other such things. Yeah, he's not
- 8:15Speaker 2: leaving the championship. He's a fair way off the league,
- 8:17Speaker 2: but I didn't see anything over the course of the weekend,
- 8:20Speaker 2: even with a Prillier being so good, that made me
- 8:22Speaker 2: think that anyone other than Mark Marquez the road to
- 8:24Speaker 2: the championship still goes through him. I'm not sure d
- 8:27Speaker 2: Caddy are going to be as strong, but we've got
- 8:30Speaker 2: plenty of years of evidence of if he's on a bike,
- 8:32Speaker 2: he lifts it to a height that other riders riding
- 8:34Speaker 2: the same bike don't. And for that reason, the fact
- 8:37Speaker 2: that he scored some points even half fit and didn't
- 8:40Speaker 2: hurt himself, I actually think it's a pretty good result
- 8:42Speaker 2: for him, to be.
- 8:42Speaker 1: Honest, No, I think you hit the nail on the
- 8:44Speaker 1: head that it's interesting. If you look back at Thailand
- 8:47Speaker 1: last year, you know it was so dominated by Mark
- 8:50Speaker 1: and Alex right this year it was Mark was the
- 8:54Speaker 1: juw caddi who was the one putting it to the Apriliers,
- 8:57Speaker 1: alongside Pedro who was the one from Key putting it
- 9:00Speaker 1: to the Aprilliers. But overall it was them against the
- 9:03Speaker 1: Aprilliers this weekend. So, like you said, Mark is the
- 9:06Speaker 1: one who can ride our bike in any situation. We
- 9:10Speaker 1: I mean, he's got two working rims and tires, then he.
- 9:14Speaker 2: Has helps, always helps.
- 9:17Speaker 1: But it was interesting. Yeah, his post race debrief as well,
- 9:20Speaker 1: he even said the same thing. He said his plan
- 9:23Speaker 1: was to manage tires throughout the main race and then
- 9:25Speaker 1: towards the end he was definitely going to fight Raoul
- 9:28Speaker 1: and he said himself that he possibly could have taken
- 9:31Speaker 1: second from Pedro as well. I mean it's that question
- 9:34Speaker 1: of if only if we got to see imagine if
- 9:38Speaker 1: But I do think that Mark is one of the
- 9:42Speaker 1: strongest mentally. But then you saw that on Saturday with
- 9:48Speaker 1: the sprint, the mental side of Mark, and it was
- 9:52Speaker 1: Neil Morrison, our guess of the pit talk pod, who
- 9:55Speaker 1: mentioned that on the cool down lap after the battle
- 9:58Speaker 1: with Pedro, after the dashboard notification of drop one position,
- 10:02Speaker 1: Mark come around the final corner to go onto the
- 10:05Speaker 1: street where the sprint podium is and he's gave a
- 10:09Speaker 1: clap in the direction of race direction when Simon Craifar
- 10:13Speaker 1: and those guys are there. Then by the time he's
- 10:16Speaker 1: come onto the broadcast, he's oh, you know, yeah, it's
- 10:19Speaker 1: racing and understand the penalty and blah blah blah. So
- 10:23Speaker 1: Mark just knows he knows when to switch it on,
- 10:26Speaker 1: he knows when to switch it off. And I think
- 10:28Speaker 1: this is why he's that level above everyone else.
- 10:31Speaker 2: Yeah, he's a genius at the off track stuff because
- 10:33Speaker 2: he knows that people are going to be looking for
- 10:36Speaker 2: him to have some sort of a sion as to
- 10:38Speaker 2: how annoyed he is that he's lost a sprint race.
- 10:40Speaker 2: So he makes his feelings very clear physically, and then
- 10:44Speaker 2: by the time someone puts a microphone under his nose.
- 10:46Speaker 2: Oh look, you know it's the way it is. It's fine,
- 10:48Speaker 2: plays the diplomatic card. Everyone knows how he's feeling. He's
- 10:51Speaker 2: a guy, he's a serial winner. He hates losing in
- 10:54Speaker 2: situations like this, and there's a way to express your
- 10:57Speaker 2: displeasure with a piece of stewardy. That was I don't
- 11:02Speaker 2: know about your It was a bit of a fifty
- 11:03Speaker 2: to fifty for me. I would have been perfectly happy
- 11:05Speaker 2: if it wasn't panealized. At the same time, I can
- 11:07Speaker 2: kind of see from preson at why it was. But
- 11:10Speaker 2: he wasn't going to miss the opportunity to make a point.
- 11:12Speaker 2: So his action said one thing and his words said another.
- 11:15Speaker 2: But that is just so typical Mark, and that he's
- 11:17Speaker 2: got every single thing covered. He's thought of how he's
- 11:20Speaker 2: going to react to these sorts of things quicker than
- 11:22Speaker 2: anybody else has actually realized. The whole thing is incredibly premeditated.
- 11:26Speaker 2: There's nothing that Mark does by chance, right. Everything is very,
- 11:30Speaker 2: very carefully planned, even though it looks like it's improvisational
- 11:33Speaker 2: in the moment, because he's got the experience and the
- 11:35Speaker 2: cunning and he knows how to play these things to
- 11:37Speaker 2: his favor. I bet you we go back to that
- 11:40Speaker 2: move at some point later in the year. If someone
- 11:43Speaker 2: does to him what he did to a Costa, and
- 11:46Speaker 2: if the ruling is not one hundred percent the same,
- 11:49Speaker 2: then all of a sudden we're going to be talking
- 11:50Speaker 2: about Thailand twenty twenty six again, aren't we. So he's
- 11:53Speaker 2: the master of filing this sort of stuff away, And
- 11:57Speaker 2: anytime you can get the extra zero point one percent
- 12:00Speaker 2: of advantage in your favor down the track, he's going
- 12:03Speaker 2: to plant a seed and take that. And that's part
- 12:05Speaker 2: of the whole package of just sort of cunning, brilliant
- 12:09Speaker 2: Grand Prix racer that is Mark Mark is.
- 12:11Speaker 1: But how good was sprint Saturday? And how good was
- 12:15Speaker 1: that battle with Pedro and Mark. It's the battle that
- 12:19Speaker 1: we have been waiting for for so long, since Pedro
- 12:22Speaker 1: has come up to the premier class. We've been wanting this,
- 12:25Speaker 1: and I think I know with all the outcome and everything,
- 12:29Speaker 1: I am sure that under those helmets both those riders
- 12:31Speaker 1: were smiling from ear to ear with those battles, especially
- 12:34Speaker 1: that last corner. Every lap, Pedro going on the inside
- 12:38Speaker 1: running it slightly white, Mark cutting him up. Then going
- 12:40Speaker 1: down the main street. It was Oh, it was so good.
- 12:43Speaker 1: And we know Matt Bird on the broadcast of the
- 12:45Speaker 1: best sprint race ever. But it was exciting. And the
- 12:49Speaker 1: cool thing is is it was our first race of
- 12:51Speaker 1: the year and it had everyone talking. It wasn't just
- 12:54Speaker 1: a bes ran away with it or Mark ran away
- 12:56Speaker 1: with it. We actually had the on track battles that
- 12:59Speaker 1: we wanted.
- 13:00Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 13:00Speaker 2: Yeah, I was a little bit concerned for Bertie at
- 13:02Speaker 2: one point I felt like saying, come on, mate, you've
- 13:04Speaker 2: still got forty three races to go. We can't lose
- 13:06Speaker 2: you in race one. But the other thing you forgot
- 13:08Speaker 2: to mention in that little subbery. Of course, the great
- 13:10Speaker 2: subtext of all of this these two are going to
- 13:12Speaker 2: be team mates next year. Has it officially beaten out
- 13:15Speaker 2: of course?
- 13:16Speaker 1: Well?
- 13:16Speaker 2: Has it beaten OUTSTI of course. But the best part
- 13:18Speaker 2: about it was that when the helmets came off in
- 13:21Speaker 2: the park for May on the start finish straight there,
- 13:24Speaker 2: they both gave each other that looked like, yeah, that
- 13:26Speaker 2: was fun, wasn't it. And to my mind, I mean,
- 13:28Speaker 2: we know Pedro Acosto is, Pedro Acosta is the GP
- 13:31Speaker 2: world championship leader. That's a strange sentence to say. But
- 13:34Speaker 2: the thing I loved about Acosta the whole weekend is
- 13:37Speaker 2: his appetite for a fight and how good he is
- 13:42Speaker 2: in handlebar to handlebar, wheel to wheel stuff. We saw
- 13:45Speaker 2: it again on Sunday in the Grand Prix where he's
- 13:47Speaker 2: having this enormous battle with Mark Marquez and Jorge Martin,
- 13:52Speaker 2: three different riders, three different bikes. Lest we forget, he's
- 13:55Speaker 2: fighting there with the two most recent world champions and
- 13:59Speaker 2: he has not won a himself yet. But there was
- 14:02Speaker 2: nothing that you saw well the best bit for me,
- 14:04Speaker 2: You saw everything on the weekend where you're like, I'm
- 14:06Speaker 2: not surprised that he's fighting these guys because this is
- 14:07Speaker 2: how good this guy is. It hasn't made me believe
- 14:11Speaker 2: any less that there are Grand Prix wins plural coming
- 14:14Speaker 2: in his very near future. He might have to wait
- 14:16Speaker 2: till next year for that, But I love how good
- 14:19Speaker 2: he is in the wheel to wheel stuff for a
- 14:21Speaker 2: guy who is still relative to the guys I just
- 14:23Speaker 2: spoke about, really inexperienced. You can be fast, and you
- 14:26Speaker 2: can be feisty, but unless you've stared in the eye
- 14:29Speaker 2: of these guys and gone wheel to will with them,
- 14:32Speaker 2: you don't necessarily know that you can do it. It
- 14:34Speaker 2: was nice to have him back because I sort of
- 14:36Speaker 2: felt last year that the beginning of last year, we
- 14:38Speaker 2: know KTM had all those financial problems last year, and
- 14:41Speaker 2: he just looked completely miserable, like he was trying to
- 14:43Speaker 2: get himself out of there at every opportunity things didn't
- 14:46Speaker 2: come up. He finished the season really well, like he
- 14:48Speaker 2: sort of seemed too seems weird to say have a twenty
- 14:51Speaker 2: wide year old, but he kind of grew up a
- 14:52Speaker 2: bit last year, you know, like he didn't look like
- 14:54Speaker 2: a kid anymore. He sort of grew into the you know,
- 14:56Speaker 2: I'm a proper motor GP racer now. But the wheel
- 14:59Speaker 2: to wheel stuff with far more experienced and more accomplished
- 15:02Speaker 2: guys was maybe the highlight of the weekend for me
- 15:04Speaker 2: because it was hard, it was fair, it was never
- 15:07Speaker 2: out of control, it was never dirty, and it was
- 15:10Speaker 2: awesome TV and Mark being the opportunitist in those battles.
- 15:14Speaker 2: There was that fantastic bit when a Costa and Martin
- 15:16Speaker 2: were tearing strips off each other and Marx just spied
- 15:18Speaker 2: this sliver of gap down the inside, so I'm just
- 15:21Speaker 2: going to take both of you into one quarter then,
- 15:23Speaker 2: despite the fact that the time that I'm not sure,
- 15:25Speaker 2: Mark was in a great place in terms of just
- 15:27Speaker 2: how he was feeling and where the bike was. So
- 15:29Speaker 2: that was the best racing we've seen for a long time.
- 15:32Speaker 2: And those three It's not going to be the last
- 15:34Speaker 2: time we have a conversation with those three in fights
- 15:37Speaker 2: this year because the other plot that I think you'll
- 15:39Speaker 2: probably get to and you run sheet at some point
- 15:41Speaker 2: was Jorje Martin was back, wasn't he?
- 15:44Speaker 1: Porge Martin was back. There's a quote that I posted
- 15:48Speaker 1: on the Fox Motorsports Socials. I'm just going to pull
- 15:51Speaker 1: it up right now. Martin finding with Mark and Petro,
- 15:56Speaker 1: I felt the same as I used to be. Wow
- 16:00Speaker 1: twenty four jor Martin, I think is back, and you
- 16:02Speaker 1: know it's only round one. We know that this track,
- 16:06Speaker 1: it wasn't a preally a strong track or all the things.
- 16:09Speaker 1: I think Martin's in the headspace where he wants to
- 16:11Speaker 1: be back.
- 16:13Speaker 2: Oh yeah, completely. I think he trusts his body. Now
- 16:16Speaker 2: I'm still if i'm him, I'm checking the fine print
- 16:19Speaker 2: on whatever he's signed elsewhere and wondering if you can,
- 16:21Speaker 2: like you know, rub it out or just lose it
- 16:23Speaker 2: in the recycling or something, and maybe he could stay
- 16:25Speaker 2: where he is, because right now, I don' think you've
- 16:27Speaker 2: got to be getting offered a brilliant you'd probably want
- 16:28Speaker 2: to be getting on one. But it's nice. He adds
- 16:31Speaker 2: something different to the front of races. And we saw
- 16:33Speaker 2: this when it was him versus Vanyaya in twenty four
- 16:36Speaker 2: and a bit of twenty three as well. There's just
- 16:38Speaker 2: this hyper aggressive sort of ferocity about Martin. We're never
- 16:43Speaker 2: quite sure where which side of the right line he's
- 16:45Speaker 2: going to stay out, like is he going to tip
- 16:46Speaker 2: over the edge or is he going to stop himself
- 16:48Speaker 2: from doing it? Because of how impulsive he is and
- 16:50Speaker 2: the way that he races, there's a different energy to
- 16:52Speaker 2: the battles at the front when he's in them because
- 16:54Speaker 2: you're not quite sure what's going to happen, but you
- 16:57Speaker 2: know it's going to be entertaining whatever it is. So yeah,
- 16:59Speaker 2: you can find those three personalities that I said, then
- 17:01Speaker 2: you've got while the old fox Mark who knows every
- 17:05Speaker 2: angle and every advantage to take, You've got a Costa
- 17:07Speaker 2: who's like a little puppy dog, just happy to be
- 17:09Speaker 2: in the fight again. He's thrilled to be there, and
- 17:12Speaker 2: Martin's got that swagger back, and whether you like Jet
- 17:15Speaker 2: Martin or not, there's something about the way he carries
- 17:18Speaker 2: himself when he's feeling good about himself at the front
- 17:20Speaker 2: of races that's different to a few other guys. You
- 17:22Speaker 2: add those three guys together and if we get more
- 17:24Speaker 2: fights like that, then I am all for it because
- 17:26Speaker 2: it was great TV.
- 17:28Speaker 1: Oh, it was fabulous TV. And it was like the
- 17:30Speaker 1: old days. You know, you just mentioned three names there.
- 17:32Speaker 1: We had Marco Bizeki who won the Grand Prix. So
- 17:35Speaker 1: that's four riders on three different manufacturers that we had
- 17:39Speaker 1: essentially fighting like we haven't seen that imoto GP for
- 17:42Speaker 1: so long, and it kind of feels like maybe if
- 17:45Speaker 1: I'm jumping the gun here. I'm sure people have their opinion,
- 17:48Speaker 1: but it seems like that ju caddie domination isn't quite
- 17:51Speaker 1: here just yet. And you know, Peko said it, he's
- 17:54Speaker 1: like a Prillier on one step forward and we've gone
- 17:57Speaker 1: one step back on the jew caddies. We saw all
- 18:01Speaker 1: four are Prillias within the top five on Sunday, the
- 18:04Speaker 1: first time, like ever a Prilli have won three Grand
- 18:07Speaker 1: Prix straight, first time Marco Betzeki's won there in Ever
- 18:11Speaker 1: and Thailand as a whole, they are pushing forward and
- 18:16Speaker 1: we can see that by this whole arrow that Simon
- 18:19Speaker 1: Patterson released on the race. I mean your backgrounds f one.
- 18:24Speaker 1: So how interesting is that that they've taken something where
- 18:28Speaker 1: the riders without even having to manually because we know
- 18:31Speaker 1: the rules. They can't manually change anything. There's no electronic
- 18:34Speaker 1: changing of anything either. Just by putting their arms where
- 18:37Speaker 1: their arms always go can drastically change the bike. And
- 18:40Speaker 1: I don't know if you saw this, Matt, the Aprillia
- 18:43Speaker 1: was so smooth going into the corners and you could
- 18:45Speaker 1: see Mark and Pedro who we know KTM struggle with
- 18:49Speaker 1: chatter and Mark on the Giu CADDI are so many manufacturers, Marchael,
- 18:55Speaker 1: the Jucadi, the bikes way, they weren't comfy going into
- 18:58Speaker 1: those corners. Those riders were riding out riding those bikes
- 19:01Speaker 1: with the aprilliers would just go into the corner and
- 19:03Speaker 1: then I'll say, go.
- 19:05Speaker 2: That thing is absolutely on rails. And the thing to
- 19:08Speaker 2: me on Sunday in the race, Bozeki, I think you
- 19:10Speaker 2: think his lead was just about six seconds or just
- 19:13Speaker 2: under like five point nine at some point, and it
- 19:16Speaker 2: didn't look to me like he was pushing after about
- 19:18Speaker 2: lab eight, he was just reeling off the laps very
- 19:20Speaker 2: very methodically. That bike is, i mean, the key one
- 19:24Speaker 2: for me, as good as he was Berzeki Iyagura had
- 19:27Speaker 2: this weird race where probably the first third of it
- 19:29Speaker 2: he was kind of buried in the pack completely nowhere,
- 19:31Speaker 2: and you just kept looking at the timing tower and oh,
- 19:34Speaker 2: he's overtaken someone else, and he's overtaken someone else, and
- 19:37Speaker 2: he's overtaken someone else. He came from nowhere to finish
- 19:40Speaker 2: in the top five on that bike. So as you said,
- 19:42Speaker 2: to have four Aprilias in the top five, that's just
- 19:45Speaker 2: a sentence We never thought that we would say. And yes,
- 19:50Speaker 2: this track maybe plays to their strengths a little bit
- 19:53Speaker 2: relative to some others, but we've got enough evidence now
- 19:56Speaker 2: that this is clearly an evolving package. It's clearly a
- 19:59Speaker 2: good Bikezeki's on the last three Grand Prix and he's
- 20:01Speaker 2: led every lap in all three of them through Portugal,
- 20:03Speaker 2: Valencia and here at Burham, so there's clearly something there
- 20:09Speaker 2: and with him, isn't it funny with Buzeki that you know,
- 20:12Speaker 2: they'll never admit this. Massimrivlla will never really admit this.
- 20:15Speaker 2: He was hired to be the second banana there. Let's
- 20:18Speaker 2: be honest. They've spent all their money on Juge Martin.
- 20:20Speaker 2: That was the big signing. They prized him away from Ducati,
- 20:23Speaker 2: and Bozeki was seen as, oh, here's a competent number
- 20:26Speaker 2: two guy. Yeah, he showed some flashes in twenty three,
- 20:28Speaker 2: hadn't been great in twenty four. He'll come in and
- 20:30Speaker 2: do an okay job. Isn't it funny how he's just
- 20:34Speaker 2: evolved into this really calm, accomplished sort of team leader.
- 20:39Speaker 2: The team rallies around him. He looks so completely at
- 20:43Speaker 2: home there. They clearly love what he's doing, and almost
- 20:46Speaker 2: by accident, you've sort of had this perfect sort of
- 20:48Speaker 2: marriage now of rider and bike and management at the
- 20:52Speaker 2: right time. They look super, super formidable right now. And
- 20:56Speaker 2: you said before about ar Ducati still the benchmark or
- 20:59Speaker 2: is that slipping We're getting to sort of old Honda
- 21:02Speaker 2: days here in that Marques will make a bike that's
- 21:05Speaker 2: not quite as good look brilliant because he's Mark Marquez.
- 21:08Speaker 2: But to my mind, the strength of Ducati is not
- 21:10Speaker 2: what Marquez is doing it's whatever, what is everyone else doing?
- 21:13Speaker 2: And this was a weekend where we know they had
- 21:16Speaker 2: that eighty eight run of Grand Prix with at least
- 21:18Speaker 2: one rider on the podium that was finally snapped, and
- 21:21Speaker 2: Marquees was the only guy who ever looked likely to
- 21:24Speaker 2: get on the podium on who do catty like the
- 21:26Speaker 2: jan Antonio was okay but not quite there. We mentioned Banyai,
- 21:30Speaker 2: Alex Marquez just looked like another rider. Again, he didn't
- 21:32Speaker 2: look like twenty twenty five runner up Alex Marquez. So
- 21:35Speaker 2: it's clear that they're their stranglehold over murder GP if
- 21:38Speaker 2: you like. It's not gone, but it's certainly not as
- 21:41Speaker 2: tight as it used to be. And right now the
- 21:44Speaker 2: Apulia can make the difference. And Bazeki's confidence level right now,
- 21:48Speaker 2: can you imagine how confident that guy is. The thing
- 21:50Speaker 2: about the race weekend that I mentioned off the top
- 21:53Speaker 2: was it was so predictable that he was going to
- 21:57Speaker 2: win the Grand Prix if he didn't keep shooting himself
- 21:59Speaker 2: in the foot. Is what he spent all day Saturday doing,
- 22:02Speaker 2: fell in practice, fairly qualifying, fell in the spring when
- 22:05Speaker 2: he stopped, you know, throwing his own weekend under the bus.
- 22:08Speaker 2: He was pretty much unbeatable, was he?
- 22:10Speaker 1: Oh? I mean you said it clear and say he
- 22:13Speaker 1: came into this weekend as one of the favorites, and
- 22:15Speaker 1: I thought it was quite funny. It is like that
- 22:17Speaker 1: Spider Man meme of Mark and Mark raping like you're
- 22:20Speaker 1: the favorite. No, you're gonna win, No, you're gonna win.
- 22:23Speaker 2: Oh my god.
- 22:24Speaker 1: But I think that that silent confidence, like you mentioned that,
- 22:28Speaker 1: we're really seeing that now. I think that having Jojem
- 22:33Speaker 1: Martine out for a lot of the year meant Savagory
- 22:35Speaker 1: could really work on developing the bike on race weekends,
- 22:39Speaker 1: which has honestly helped Marco Beedzeki, I think more than
- 22:43Speaker 1: we really know. And then now we're starting to see
- 22:46Speaker 1: this uplift of Okay Joge Martin's back, We're seeing Rool Fernandez,
- 22:50Speaker 1: who was more consistent and I say that with the
- 22:52Speaker 1: little lasteris but towards the end of last year, right,
- 22:56Speaker 1: I go, as in his second year now in Moroto GP,
- 22:58Speaker 1: and we know he needs to be a little bit
- 23:00Speaker 1: more methodical the way he works. So I think overall,
- 23:03Speaker 1: as a package, working with the two teams, I think
- 23:06Speaker 1: they just got this winning formula that everything seems to
- 23:10Speaker 1: be working in their direction well, and.
- 23:14Speaker 2: The combinations of riders feel right too.
- 23:17Speaker 3: Like the one.
- 23:17Speaker 2: I've still got some question mark simply because he's been
- 23:20Speaker 2: around for a long while and has only recently shown
- 23:22Speaker 2: it as Fernandez. No one's disputing that he's quick. He's
- 23:25Speaker 2: always been quick, but it's always been a bit erratic.
- 23:27Speaker 2: A Gura is still very young in his journey, and
- 23:29Speaker 2: like you said, he works in a very very different way,
- 23:32Speaker 2: a very very Japanese way of going to work. And
- 23:34Speaker 2: Martin they haven't got the return on the investment that
- 23:37Speaker 2: they expected because he's just been hurt the entire time.
- 23:39Speaker 2: But you look at the way that Bike's to develop
- 23:42Speaker 2: the technical innovation that you mentioned previously. Both of those
- 23:45Speaker 2: are Prilia teams have good leadership with Masimon Rivla and
- 23:49Speaker 2: Davide Brivia, like guys who've been around their experienced heads.
- 23:52Speaker 2: That it feels like a really harmonious manufacturer at the moment.
- 23:57Speaker 2: And it's funny to think that because you know, in
- 23:59Speaker 2: the past Prillia would have two races a year. We'd go, oh,
- 24:03Speaker 2: they look amazingly. They go to Cataluna and Alesia. Spargo
- 24:05Speaker 2: would be fantastic and then they do nothing for six
- 24:08Speaker 2: weeks at the end of the season. So they were
- 24:10Speaker 2: this occasional Oh yes, I've remembered, you're still in Motor GP,
- 24:12Speaker 2: and then you just forget about them for the next
- 24:14Speaker 2: six rounds. They're not like that anymore. They don't have
- 24:17Speaker 2: week tracks, they don't have strong tracks, They just have
- 24:19Speaker 2: a prillier tracks because that bike works pretty much everywhere.
- 24:22Speaker 2: And look for Bazeki's sake, Yeah, he took twenty five
- 24:26Speaker 2: points out of the weekend. He's probably thinking I should
- 24:28Speaker 2: have had thirty four thirty seven points over the weekend.
- 24:31Speaker 2: It's the reason he's not leading the World championship. But
- 24:34Speaker 2: despite the fact that he isn't leading the World Championship,
- 24:37Speaker 2: and despite the fact that Marquez only scored nine points
- 24:39Speaker 2: over the weekend, I think you could look at Acosta,
- 24:41Speaker 2: Berzeki and Marquez as the biggest winners out of the
- 24:44Speaker 2: weekend because they all have a lot to be positive about,
- 24:47Speaker 2: which is not something you say after round bye normally,
- 24:49Speaker 2: is it, And.
- 24:50Speaker 1: Not something you'd say for an Aprilia out of Flyaway
- 24:53Speaker 1: in a condition as well, which is true. I think
- 24:56Speaker 1: years ago Elisia Mamrick complaining that like they were burning
- 25:01Speaker 1: on the bike and now look how far they come.
- 25:03Speaker 1: It's insane. But then you look at the other side
- 25:05Speaker 1: of the thing you mentioned earlier. Mark Marquez is carrying
- 25:07Speaker 1: the weight of do caddiek Round one. Pedro Acosta is
- 25:11Speaker 1: also carrying the weight of KTM. You know, Bradbinda. Okay,
- 25:14Speaker 1: decent result for Brad Binda to be in the top ten.
- 25:18Speaker 1: Maverick Vignalez way back, I thought Lorenzo was going to
- 25:21Speaker 1: come in and show everything. But we know that Maverick's
- 25:24Speaker 1: using the different aero package. We know he's gone completely
- 25:27Speaker 1: different to the other three bikes, but it just seems
- 25:29Speaker 1: like there's this massive gap between Pedro and where the
- 25:33Speaker 1: rest of them are.
- 25:34Speaker 2: Yeah, there's Pedro KTM and there's everyone else KTM. Isn't
- 25:37Speaker 2: there an AA bastity and you can't qualify at all?
- 25:40Speaker 2: And he's still race as well, And what a great
- 25:43Speaker 2: surprise he came through towards the end of the race
- 25:45Speaker 2: when he managed to save some tie like he already does.
- 25:47Speaker 2: But when you're starting twentieth, it's kind of a moot point.
- 25:50Speaker 2: And Maverick was just one end of the mercurial scales
- 25:54Speaker 2: of the other, and it was the end. You don't
- 25:55Speaker 2: want to be with Maverick this weekend. But yeah, it's
- 25:58Speaker 2: interesting with KTM, you under we need more evidence, I
- 26:02Speaker 2: reckon in that how much of this is them and
- 26:04Speaker 2: how much of this is a Costa, It's really hard
- 26:06Speaker 2: to know. It's hard to separate one from the other.
- 26:09Speaker 2: I think with Ducatti it's probably a little bit easier
- 26:10Speaker 2: to determine right now in that it does feel like
- 26:12Speaker 2: it's more Markers than Ducati at this point. It feels
- 26:15Speaker 2: like he's the difference maker KTM. We need maybe some
- 26:19Speaker 2: more tracks and more normal tracks and more normal temperatures
- 26:22Speaker 2: to know whether this is sustainable. But a Costa is
- 26:25Speaker 2: putting himself in that difference maker category in that he's
- 26:28Speaker 2: doing for KTM a little bit what Mark is doing
- 26:31Speaker 2: for Dukati the great thing for Aprillier in this conversation.
- 26:34Speaker 2: And this is not to downplay what Bozeki did all weekend,
- 26:36Speaker 2: because he had the sharpest instrument in the toolkit and
- 26:39Speaker 2: he sliced everyone to pieces with it. He was the
- 26:41Speaker 2: best guy at doing it. But you mentioned before Ralph
- 26:43Speaker 2: anders on podiums in both the Sprint and the Grand Prix.
- 26:46Speaker 2: Jorge Martin looking like a decent facsimile of old Joge
- 26:49Speaker 2: Martin and Iogura coming forward in the race. That bike's
- 26:52Speaker 2: clearly good for everyone. So Bozeki made the best of it.
- 26:55Speaker 2: But you think that the other two manufacturers I mentioned
- 26:58Speaker 2: there's more riding on those two individual riders than there
- 27:01Speaker 2: is with a Prillier, because it feels to me that
- 27:03Speaker 2: the Aprillia is a bike that any of those four
- 27:05Speaker 2: could put on the podium, and I think we'll probably
- 27:07Speaker 2: see that in the next few the next few Grand Prix.
- 27:10Speaker 1: I just want to touch on the tires before we
- 27:12Speaker 1: move on to the final manufacturers, because it wasn't just
- 27:17Speaker 1: Mark who had the tire issue this weekend. We know
- 27:19Speaker 1: that Joey Martin had was waiting for a tire pressure
- 27:23Speaker 1: penalty like that was all under investigation. He also had
- 27:26Speaker 1: a buckled rim from the race that would let the
- 27:29Speaker 1: air out. We know that Mark had the buckled rim
- 27:31Speaker 1: and everything like that, and then we know that Luan
- 27:35Speaker 1: Mia also had the issue with He called it an
- 27:37Speaker 1: external supplier in his.
- 27:40Speaker 3: Post rac very very diplomatic, Bojean, Yes, so we saw
- 27:45Speaker 3: I sent your photo and everyone listening head to the
- 27:48Speaker 3: Fox Socials because I posted that photo of Raoul tire
- 27:50Speaker 3: at the end of the race.
- 27:51Speaker 1: We know that the tires were the issue there, but
- 27:54Speaker 1: it wasn't just Mark. It seemed like it was across
- 27:57Speaker 1: the board that there was either an actual damage happening
- 28:01Speaker 1: or it was just everyone was struggling to maintain tires
- 28:04Speaker 1: unless you're an Abashanini is just a tire wizard.
- 28:07Speaker 2: Yeah, or i Agrew who apparently had It's almost like
- 28:10Speaker 2: he'd taken a pit stop with some brand new ones
- 28:12Speaker 2: on because he was so quick at the end of
- 28:13Speaker 2: the race. Everyone else was just gasping for the finish line.
- 28:16Speaker 2: By the end. They were riding around. We'll get to
- 28:18Speaker 2: Yamaha at some point, but Jack Miller said he was
- 28:20Speaker 2: like riding at one third throttle coming out of the
- 28:22Speaker 2: corners because he was so concerned by the rear tire
- 28:24Speaker 2: towards the end of the race. So it really did
- 28:26Speaker 2: become this war of attrition. I mean, you even saw
- 28:29Speaker 2: Bazeki's tire on the last couple of laps. I think
- 28:31Speaker 2: looked super secondhand, And it's a function of you know,
- 28:35Speaker 2: it was the hottest conditions of the weekend, and just
- 28:39Speaker 2: as as an asside, like the best job in the
- 28:41Speaker 2: world being a weather forecast. It was supposed to pall
- 28:43Speaker 2: with rain on Sunday in according to Logrange weather forecasting,
- 28:46Speaker 2: and then of course it's like blazing hot and thirty
- 28:48Speaker 2: five degrees and weather forecasting is that job where you
- 28:51Speaker 2: can be completely wrong and still keep your job. So
- 28:53Speaker 2: if I come back in a second life, I might
- 28:54Speaker 2: be a meteorologist or something. I think that just permanently employed.
- 28:57Speaker 2: But it was one of those weekends where we hadn't
- 29:01Speaker 2: done full fuel load running on a track that hot
- 29:03Speaker 2: for the entire weekend, so it was a little bit
- 29:06Speaker 2: of a step into the unknown. You know, the sprint
- 29:07Speaker 2: will give you some data, but even the long runs
- 29:09Speaker 2: in practice weren't giving you the data you needed. And
- 29:12Speaker 2: towards the end of the race, everyone was like, oh
- 29:15Speaker 2: my god, we're in just full survival mode here. And
- 29:18Speaker 2: there was three riders. I forgot the other one who
- 29:20Speaker 2: looked like he still had some tie left until he's
- 29:22Speaker 2: wheel buckled. It was Mark Marquez because he was starting
- 29:24Speaker 2: to come back towards the podium. We never saw how
- 29:26Speaker 2: that finished. But other than Agura and well BASIDENI just
- 29:31Speaker 2: doing Basidini things. It felt like Everyone was looking at
- 29:34Speaker 2: that lap board as they came around and going, oh
- 29:36Speaker 2: my god, how is there still four laps to go?
- 29:38Speaker 2: How is there still three laps to go?
- 29:39Speaker 1: It was.
- 29:40Speaker 2: If it had gone for one or two more laps,
- 29:42Speaker 2: it would have been fairly interesting. They might have been
- 29:43Speaker 2: walking home, run the riding home. I think.
- 29:46Speaker 1: I think for me with regards to Honda, I think
- 29:50Speaker 1: this weekend, Okay, we know that Mia had the issue
- 29:53Speaker 1: with the tires. We knew that Honda they're still figuring
- 29:57Speaker 1: stuff out, but they're getting there. They're getting closer. A yeah, yeah,
- 30:00Speaker 1: I just got to say, Dioga Morrera his rookie race, Okay,
- 30:04Speaker 1: he came up for a Moto twos, he could ride
- 30:06Speaker 1: the bike a little bit more like a motor two
- 30:08Speaker 1: bike and handle his fires. But the fact that he
- 30:10Speaker 1: scored points in his maiden Moto GP race with lbl
- 30:14Speaker 1: SO a satellite team, I mean, I take my hat
- 30:17Speaker 1: off to him. In the heat in those conditions, phenomenal.
- 30:21Speaker 2: Talk about baptism and fire. For your first race, my god,
- 30:23Speaker 2: like literally, you are on fire because it's that hot.
- 30:25Speaker 2: You've never done this amount of laps before in this
- 30:28Speaker 2: amount of heat. It's your first race. You're in the pack.
- 30:30Speaker 2: It's super hard. He was really impressive. I thought, mear
- 30:34Speaker 2: to me is he's literally the unluckiest guy going around,
- 30:38Speaker 2: because that was looking like a really really strong result
- 30:41Speaker 2: for him. You love that. This is going to sound
- 30:44Speaker 2: like an insult, but it's actually meant as a compliment.
- 30:46Speaker 2: I love how hard the guy tries, Like he tries
- 30:49Speaker 2: harder than anybody else on the grid, Like he just
- 30:51Speaker 2: refuses to I don't know if he'll try sometimes we'll
- 30:58Speaker 2: get that. But Mirrors that guy who just keeps like
- 31:02Speaker 2: he's just pounding the rock the whole time in the
- 31:03Speaker 2: hope that it might split at some point, Like he
- 31:05Speaker 2: just never gives up. He was really stiff because he
- 31:09Speaker 2: was on for a really good result. Honda's got the
- 31:13Speaker 2: right mix of riders right now. When you think about it,
- 31:15Speaker 2: You've got the whole. You know, if Mirror is the fire,
- 31:17Speaker 2: then Marine is the ice. Right They sort of balance
- 31:19Speaker 2: each other out quite nicely. Zarko's the wily vet who
- 31:22Speaker 2: will have one of those one or two races a
- 31:24Speaker 2: year where he's right up the front and maximizes what
- 31:26Speaker 2: he has. Putting a young, fast guy in LCR is
- 31:29Speaker 2: a really good idea I think for this year, given
- 31:31Speaker 2: that everything's going to change for next year. They're not
- 31:33Speaker 2: there yet, Honda, but you can see the pathway for
- 31:37Speaker 2: them getting to where they need to go, and all
- 31:40Speaker 2: they need now is an absolute a list rider And yeah,
- 31:43Speaker 2: that's a rider market conversation for another day.
- 31:45Speaker 1: I think I think we need to do just a
- 31:47Speaker 1: whole podcast on the silly season and everything.
- 31:51Speaker 2: When it all breaks, it's going to be a two
- 31:53Speaker 2: hour emergency pot.
- 31:54Speaker 1: I think it's going to be insane. But okay, the
- 31:57Speaker 1: last manufacturing Moroto GP before we move on to Aussies
- 32:00Speaker 1: in the lower classes. Where do I even start? How
- 32:05Speaker 1: do I even begin to describe Yamaha other than my
- 32:08Speaker 1: heart is breaking for them because you can see the frustration.
- 32:12Speaker 1: We saw the physical signals that Fabio was giving to
- 32:16Speaker 1: his bike this weekend. We saw how much you know,
- 32:21Speaker 1: Jack top Rack were putting in and how they were riding,
- 32:26Speaker 1: Like when we saw top Rack crash, you could see
- 32:28Speaker 1: he was almost riding that moj deeper bike like a
- 32:30Speaker 1: super bike. We saw the write you know, everything around.
- 32:34Speaker 1: We've heard Alex Rinn saying he goes to his office
- 32:36Speaker 1: to let out his frustration by screaming, and then Sunday
- 32:40Speaker 1: afternoon we know that they didn't even send the riders
- 32:42Speaker 1: up for their debriefs. They sent their team manager, Palepavessio,
- 32:47Speaker 1: which you wrote an article about on Fox sports dot
- 32:49Speaker 1: Com Forward Slash Motorsport. Go and check it out. I
- 32:52Speaker 1: highly recommend because it is just showing, Okay, Yamaha a
- 32:57Speaker 1: head office, Yamaha as a team are like, you know,
- 33:00Speaker 1: we're trying, we're doing this, We're fully committed. Then you
- 33:04Speaker 1: see the one end of the stick where Fabio Cordurao
- 33:06Speaker 1: is going, I'm over asking for things because I just
- 33:08Speaker 1: don't get it, and they say they're going to bring
- 33:10Speaker 1: it in and they're not, and I'm frustrated. You have
- 33:12Speaker 1: the other end where Jack Miller is like, you know,
- 33:14Speaker 1: we're developing and we're working and we're getting their top
- 33:17Speaker 1: Racfras Galioglu, who's the rookie and he's come from being
- 33:20Speaker 1: at the top of the timing chance to being down
- 33:24Speaker 1: the back and he's, you know, quite a long way off.
- 33:26Speaker 1: And then there's Alex Rinz, who we know Alex's history
- 33:30Speaker 1: and the struggle with the injuries and everything like that
- 33:33Speaker 1: as a whole. Right now, like all I can say
- 33:36Speaker 1: is my heart breaks for them. It's it's sad to
- 33:38Speaker 1: see because we know what Yama are capable of.
- 33:42Speaker 2: Yeah, completely, let's how do we tackle this. Let's let's
- 33:45Speaker 2: go the lowest hanging fruit first. I love watching Fabio
- 33:49Speaker 2: Couatra ride motor GP bikes. I don't care for one
- 33:53Speaker 2: word that Fabio says for the rest of this year,
- 33:55Speaker 2: quite frankly, because we know that he's out of there,
- 33:57Speaker 2: and we also know that he had a chance to
- 33:59Speaker 2: leave a couple of years ago and accepted a rather
- 34:01Speaker 2: large sack of money to stay. So he's made his bed.
- 34:05Speaker 2: He's got to lay it for another twenty one rounds.
- 34:08Speaker 2: That's fine, He'll go off and ride for somewhere else.
- 34:09Speaker 2: You know what he says. At this point, we kind
- 34:11Speaker 2: of just need to take with a picture salt because
- 34:13Speaker 2: it's never going to be positive as far as the
- 34:16Speaker 2: V four thing goes. Like, you don't make a decision
- 34:21Speaker 2: this seismic to abandon this in line, for that's been
- 34:23Speaker 2: the whole bedrock of all the success they've had without
- 34:27Speaker 2: expecting some pain along the way, right, and in some
- 34:30Speaker 2: respects I admire them for doing it in such a
- 34:32Speaker 2: public forum because you're just leaving yourself open to be
- 34:35Speaker 2: ridiculed by races like this weekend where they were absolutely
- 34:39Speaker 2: hopeless for the entire weekend. I think Jack was the
- 34:42Speaker 2: best place Yamaha in the sprint. I think he's fifteenth
- 34:45Speaker 2: and Kwasrara was the best place Yamaha in the race,
- 34:47Speaker 2: and he was fourteenth only because guys crashed in front
- 34:49Speaker 2: of him was the only reason he scored any points
- 34:51Speaker 2: at all. So to do this in a really public
- 34:54Speaker 2: space is admirable to a degree, but it also shows
- 34:57Speaker 2: you that they literally were at the we've got nothing
- 35:01Speaker 2: to lose. There was nothing for them to lose by
- 35:03Speaker 2: doing this, because they had already touched the sea bed
- 35:06Speaker 2: at this point, they'd already hit rock bottom. Right, If
- 35:08Speaker 2: you're going to extract yourself out of this and become
- 35:11Speaker 2: something like the Yamaha that you used to be, the
- 35:14Speaker 2: sooner you get to the bottom, the faster you can
- 35:16Speaker 2: begin the journey back to the top. Right, And I said,
- 35:19Speaker 2: like a motivational calendar here. But the thing with bread Wall,
- 35:24Speaker 2: that's fine. Look if you feel like a bit flat,
- 35:26Speaker 2: I've got more of this for you. The thing with
- 35:29Speaker 2: Yamaha and this particular track to like you almost couldn't
- 35:32Speaker 2: find a worse track for them in terms of the
- 35:34Speaker 2: track layout, because we know the thing's really really slow
- 35:37Speaker 2: in a straight line. It's ten k hours slower than
- 35:39Speaker 2: any other bike in a straight line. And you look
- 35:41Speaker 2: at that layout. Start finished straight leads into a medium
- 35:45Speaker 2: speed first quarter, really long straight leads into a hairpin,
- 35:48Speaker 2: another really long straight leads into turn four. So by
- 35:52Speaker 2: the time you've done the first two sectors of the lap,
- 35:54Speaker 2: you are positioned absolutely nowhere. And then you could see,
- 35:57Speaker 2: particularly during qualifying, where the Yamaha are like, Okay, we're
- 36:01Speaker 2: getting slaughtered on the straits here. We have to go
- 36:04Speaker 2: deeper into quarters and we have to take more risk.
- 36:07Speaker 2: When you're doing twelve corners a lap for twenty six
- 36:09Speaker 2: laps of a Grand Prix while managing heat and fuel
- 36:12Speaker 2: load and tires, you are riding on a tightrope for
- 36:16Speaker 2: forty something minutes. You cannot possibly get every single one
- 36:19Speaker 2: of these quarters where you have to make the difference right,
- 36:22Speaker 2: and then you lose a tenth here, and you lose
- 36:24Speaker 2: three tenths there, and you lose eight tenths here, and
- 36:26Speaker 2: so on and so forth, and it just snowballs there'll
- 36:29Speaker 2: be other tracks that come up that have more conventional
- 36:32Speaker 2: layouts that won't make them look as bad as this.
- 36:34Speaker 2: But by the same token, I think they went into
- 36:36Speaker 2: this with pretty low expectations, and you could tell that
- 36:39Speaker 2: the expectations, you could tell the results from the expectations
- 36:42Speaker 2: were even less by the fact that all four riders
- 36:46Speaker 2: were basically excused from doing debriefs, and Yamaha managing director
- 36:51Speaker 2: Palo Pavesio came in there and just threw himself at
- 36:54Speaker 2: the mercy of the media and said, all right, let's
- 36:56Speaker 2: do this, which is admirable for a leader to go
- 36:59Speaker 2: and throw themselves out there and say all right. He
- 37:01Speaker 2: sat there for ten minutes. He did not duck a question.
- 37:03Speaker 2: There were really uncomfortable questions and uncomfortable things to say
- 37:06Speaker 2: in that conversation, but he faced it head on. It's
- 37:10Speaker 2: dire for Yamaha at the moment, simply because it used
- 37:13Speaker 2: to be the Japanese Cup with them and Honda. Honda
- 37:15Speaker 2: is clear of that. Now they're not in that conversation anymore,
- 37:18Speaker 2: and you've got them floundering around now for the rest
- 37:21Speaker 2: of the year. They're going to lose their biggest asset
- 37:24Speaker 2: in quaateraro. The only thing that can I say save
- 37:28Speaker 2: them is probably a bit strong. But the only thing
- 37:30Speaker 2: you can take some sort of comfort from next year
- 37:32Speaker 2: is this complete reset, right and so you're not going
- 37:36Speaker 2: to have a situation where what they do this year
- 37:38Speaker 2: is going to have long lasting effects for twenty seven
- 37:40Speaker 2: and twenty eight and years and years and years where
- 37:42Speaker 2: you build on the same regulatory set. There's no guarantee
- 37:45Speaker 2: right now. Who's going to be any good in twenty
- 37:47Speaker 2: twenty seven. We've got an idea, but there's no guarantee,
- 37:50Speaker 2: Whereas if twenty seven just followed on twenty six with
- 37:52Speaker 2: the same rule set, Yamaha would be in an absolute
- 37:55Speaker 2: world of pain right now, because this is going to
- 37:57Speaker 2: take them a long time to get out of. This
- 37:59Speaker 2: year results wise is a write off already. It's what
- 38:04Speaker 2: can they learn this year that they can put into
- 38:07Speaker 2: practice for the eight fifties, and then you would hope
- 38:09Speaker 2: that they could start twenty seven not as far behind
- 38:12Speaker 2: as they are now. It's really hard for them to
- 38:14Speaker 2: deal with this, and anyone that's a Yamaha fan is
- 38:16Speaker 2: looking at this with their hands over their eyes right
- 38:18Speaker 2: now because it's a really tough watch. But This is
- 38:21Speaker 2: almost the pain they had to commit to, because if
- 38:23Speaker 2: you don't commit to that, you're just going to be
- 38:24Speaker 2: floundering around at the back for as many years as
- 38:27Speaker 2: that takes.
- 38:29Speaker 1: You wrote an article, I made some social content about this,
- 38:32Speaker 1: and I feel like it's something that I want to say,
- 38:35Speaker 1: is Okay, Jack Miller, he's out there racing, he's on
- 38:40Speaker 1: the gritty's physically racing. I don't know if people understand
- 38:43Speaker 1: just how much work though, he is putting in also
- 38:46Speaker 1: behind the scenes to try and help develop this bike.
- 38:49Speaker 1: So they have Agoso Fernandez as their test writer. We
- 38:53Speaker 1: know that they've got the factory in Japan, they've got
- 38:56Speaker 1: their European one in Italy, Fabian Corduriro. He is there
- 39:00Speaker 1: to win top rack. He's a rookie, he's there to learn.
- 39:03Speaker 1: Alex Rans Okay, he's been another manufacturer, SOO. I'm sure
- 39:05Speaker 1: he's helping develop, But I feel like people don't necessarily
- 39:09Speaker 1: understand just how much Jack Miller is there to race
- 39:12Speaker 1: and to develop the bike on a race weekend to
- 39:15Speaker 1: help progress them further.
- 39:17Speaker 2: Yeah. Yeah, He's a massive asset for them right now.
- 39:19Speaker 2: And the sort of irony of the whole thing is
- 39:21Speaker 2: that you know, Jack's thirty one. Now, he would a
- 39:24Speaker 2: bit that he's closer to the end in the beginning.
- 39:26Speaker 2: If and when Yamaha gets good, he's likely not going
- 39:29Speaker 2: to be on the grid to sort of reap the
- 39:31Speaker 2: benefits of the work that he put in, which is
- 39:33Speaker 2: like a cruel irony to that to a degree, but
- 39:36Speaker 2: by the same token, without the skill set that he
- 39:39Speaker 2: has and the experience of V four machinery with Honda
- 39:42Speaker 2: and with Decadian, with Katie m he's the right guy
- 39:46Speaker 2: for them at this particular time in terms of being
- 39:49Speaker 2: able to sort out what doesn't work. And Peter Bom
- 39:52Speaker 2: was saying last week, you know, he goes out and
- 39:53Speaker 2: testing and he's another new chassis, and he's another new
- 39:55Speaker 2: swing arm, and he's another new piece of arrow, and
- 39:58Speaker 2: he's just testing, testing, testing, the entire time. He will
- 40:01Speaker 2: give you clear, concise, unemotional, economic feedback in a language
- 40:07Speaker 2: that the engineers can understand. He's actually almost become an
- 40:10Speaker 2: engineer riding the bike at this point. And he's the
- 40:13Speaker 2: right guy at the right time for them. And look,
- 40:16Speaker 2: there'll come a point that once the Yamaha gets good,
- 40:19Speaker 2: you'll know it's going to start to get good, because
- 40:21Speaker 2: there'll be big name guys that want to ride it,
- 40:23Speaker 2: and that's going to be the thing that sort of
- 40:24Speaker 2: escorts Jack to the exit door of Moto GP to
- 40:26Speaker 2: a degree. But you look at from where he's been
- 40:30Speaker 2: and what he's done, that almost becomes like his legacy
- 40:33Speaker 2: play in the if Yamaha ever get good in the future,
- 40:37Speaker 2: his input and his DNA is going to be in
- 40:40Speaker 2: that bike when it has the resurgence and Yamaha is
- 40:43Speaker 2: too successful in racing and has too much murdor GP
- 40:45Speaker 2: pedigree to be like this forever. This is not going
- 40:48Speaker 2: to be the way it is for Yamaha forever. It's
- 40:50Speaker 2: going to come good. Now, we don't know when that's
- 40:52Speaker 2: going to happen, so his biggest impact will be felt
- 40:55Speaker 2: after he's gone, when he's just sitting on the couch
- 40:57Speaker 2: watching it like everybody else. But I think he's the
- 41:00Speaker 2: right guy at the right time now, because, as you mentioned,
- 41:02Speaker 2: Quaterero has got one and a half legs out the
- 41:05Speaker 2: exit door at this point and it's not the world's
- 41:07Speaker 2: most technical writer at the best of times. Alex Ridds
- 41:10Speaker 2: has just never really been the same ever since he
- 41:11Speaker 2: hard himself back in twenty twenty three and as good
- 41:15Speaker 2: as top rack racidet the old who's riding a motorcycle.
- 41:17Speaker 2: He's still a rookie. He's twenty nine year old bo
- 41:20Speaker 2: to GP rookie who's never written OD Michelin tires before.
- 41:23Speaker 2: There's only going to be a limit to what he
- 41:24Speaker 2: can provide. So in terms of the job description, the
- 41:28Speaker 2: only other guy that you would say could do a
- 41:31Speaker 2: pretty good facsimile of what Jack is doing right now
- 41:33Speaker 2: would be Luca Marini, which is interesting because he's been
- 41:36Speaker 2: linked with Yamaha as well, and Luca's that little bit younger,
- 41:40Speaker 2: and he's incredibly technically astute, and anyone that's listened to
- 41:43Speaker 2: her Luca Maroney press debrief will just literally sit there
- 41:46Speaker 2: and say, how many things did you just tell us?
- 41:48Speaker 2: Because he's so brilliant at describing what goes on with
- 41:51Speaker 2: the bike. Jack's that little bit older and has that
- 41:53Speaker 2: little bit more experience with other manufacturers. But to me,
- 41:57Speaker 2: Marine is the next Miller in terms of the guy
- 42:00Speaker 2: who's been rapid enough to do things in motor GP,
- 42:02Speaker 2: but also is really good from an engineering point of view.
- 42:06Speaker 2: And I don't see this anyone else on the grid
- 42:08Speaker 2: right now that would necessarily be able to do what
- 42:10Speaker 2: Jack is doing for Yamaha. So we were talking about
- 42:13Speaker 2: this off air before, and I'm happy to hitch you
- 42:15Speaker 2: a flag to the mast on this one. I'm more
- 42:17Speaker 2: confident than Jack will bille on the grid next year
- 42:19Speaker 2: than I was this time last year. I think he'll
- 42:22Speaker 2: be in there for twenty twenty seven, even if his
- 42:24Speaker 2: results in twenty twenty six are worse than they were
- 42:26Speaker 2: in twenty twenty five, and his results in twenty twenty
- 42:28Speaker 2: five weren't great when you look at the stats themselves,
- 42:32Speaker 2: but there's an immeasurable there's something that's not easy to
- 42:34Speaker 2: measure in terms of raw numbers with Jack, with what
- 42:36Speaker 2: he's doing with that project at this time, and I
- 42:39Speaker 2: feel that he's in the right place for them. And
- 42:41Speaker 2: I also feel that he's kind of relishing the chance
- 42:44Speaker 2: to steer this thing from a directional point of view,
- 42:47Speaker 2: because his days of chasing Grand Prix wins and podiums
- 42:49Speaker 2: and all of that are probably over. But you can
- 42:51Speaker 2: still find satisfaction and make an impact in Motor GP
- 42:54Speaker 2: without necessarily being at the top of the time sheets
- 42:57Speaker 2: or high on the standings.
- 43:00Speaker 1: Going to move from the seriousness for a second. But
- 43:02Speaker 1: I want to stay on Pramaha.
- 43:03Speaker 3: Because Pramaha drink, Ramha have a drink.
- 43:07Speaker 1: Okay, they were it was an all doom and gloom
- 43:09Speaker 1: for them this weekend because they did win the inaugural
- 43:11Speaker 1: took took odd and I just have to say, Okay,
- 43:17Speaker 1: if you were to look at personalities, Pramaha are the
- 43:20Speaker 1: winners there. Okay, yeah, they won the race. Jack and
- 43:23Speaker 1: top Rack together.
- 43:25Speaker 2: Wasn't that so cool?
- 43:26Speaker 1: I mean the fact that Jack was in Crocs as well,
- 43:28Speaker 1: like it doesn't get more Australia.
- 43:31Speaker 2: The most jack thing of all the time. He's the
- 43:32Speaker 2: world's oldest thirteen year old Jack Mill like he's his
- 43:35Speaker 2: sweet spot for Cuba is in that sort of eleven
- 43:38Speaker 2: to fourteen year old boy rage, which is awesome because
- 43:40Speaker 2: it was it's been a long time since he was
- 43:42Speaker 2: eleven toty eleven to forty year old boy. But of
- 43:45Speaker 2: the two that were going to make the most of
- 43:47Speaker 2: barreling around it, a couple of took. Of course it
- 43:49Speaker 2: was going to be those two.
- 43:50Speaker 1: Wasn't it just hilarious and them hanging out the side
- 43:53Speaker 1: and whatnot. But we got to see the personalities and
- 43:55Speaker 1: I think that from an outside, like a fan of
- 43:59Speaker 1: the sport, this is what we want to see. Is
- 44:01Speaker 1: it's so hard to sit here and be like yeah,
- 44:02Speaker 1: I'm aha this and how bad they are. But then
- 44:06Speaker 1: you see something like that. And I was watching it
- 44:08Speaker 1: live here in Australia.
- 44:10Speaker 2: It was hysterical.
- 44:11Speaker 1: It was so funny.
- 44:13Speaker 2: It reminded me. Do you remember last year with the
- 44:16Speaker 2: fy and Racey had and the lego cars? It was
- 44:18Speaker 2: the same as where they let the drivers loose in
- 44:20Speaker 2: a bunch of cars turn into made out of lego
- 44:22Speaker 2: and they turned into twelve year olds all of a sudden.
- 44:24Speaker 2: It was hilarious. What we need now is for every
- 44:27Speaker 2: Murder GP race weekend to come up with a variation
- 44:31Speaker 2: on a theme whatever the national thing is. We need
- 44:34Speaker 2: to have a race of bit talktalks or whatever it
- 44:36Speaker 2: is around the world. I'm trying to think what the
- 44:37Speaker 2: Australian sort of equivalent might be like. Is it like
- 44:40Speaker 2: porter loose, like a Porter luver on PARI something along
- 44:43Speaker 2: those lines. Is that what we need to do?
- 44:45Speaker 1: I was thinking the same thing when I was watching it,
- 44:47Speaker 1: going what could we do at Philip Island this year?
- 44:49Speaker 1: And I live on the Sunshine coast here in Australia,
- 44:51Speaker 1: and there's a big pub not far from here called
- 44:55Speaker 1: the Edamoga Pub is what it used to be called,
- 44:57Speaker 1: and they used to do dunny races on Australia Day.
- 45:00Speaker 2: There we go.
- 45:00Speaker 1: Would you imagine if we had some form of this
- 45:04Speaker 1: at the Australian and Grand Prix.
- 45:06Speaker 2: I think, yes, yes, I can, Yes, I can a GPC.
- 45:09Speaker 1: If you're listening, let's go out with the bang, shall
- 45:11Speaker 1: we for Philip Violets? Oh boy?
- 45:13Speaker 2: Yeah yeah, But honestly, can you imagine the carnage will
- 45:16Speaker 2: be around there? And the thing is that'd all be
- 45:18Speaker 2: up for it as well. The thing that amused me
- 45:20Speaker 2: in the Tooktok race, other than Jack being in croc
- 45:22Speaker 2: standing on the back of this thing, really Jorge Martin
- 45:26Speaker 2: deciding to just not take the last two quarters of
- 45:29Speaker 2: the track just so he could beat Marquez and Bagyara.
- 45:31Speaker 2: As they were coming through, he saw a line through
- 45:32Speaker 2: the grass and said, I'm going through there. I was
- 45:35Speaker 2: worried that thing was going over given the speedy attack
- 45:37Speaker 2: the grass. Isn't it funny like you give you give
- 45:40Speaker 2: a bunch of races, something motorized and it's all supposed
- 45:43Speaker 2: to be proper and have some decorum, and they turned
- 45:45Speaker 2: into twelve year olds and it's great to you. I
- 45:47Speaker 2: loved it.
- 45:48Speaker 1: Oh, it's brilliant. Honestly, Donna m seg well done for
- 45:52Speaker 1: doing that, because I think it's great. I think it's
- 45:54Speaker 1: another way we can see the personalities. It's our version
- 45:57Speaker 1: of drive to survive. But Wayne were entertaining in my
- 46:01Speaker 1: point of view.
- 46:02Speaker 2: Well, there's one of those two things that I've watched,
- 46:04Speaker 2: and I don't think you needed to tell you which
- 46:05Speaker 2: one of those I'm watching it. It's not the four
- 46:08Speaker 2: wheel one.
- 46:09Speaker 1: Before we finish up this podcast, we have to quickly
- 46:12Speaker 1: touch on our Aussies because you know, we've got to
- 46:14Speaker 1: give them their props. Now, Sena ageis rollercoaster of a
- 46:18Speaker 1: weekend securing his maiden Moto two pole. Then we had Sunday,
- 46:24Speaker 1: we had that chaotic start to the race. We found
- 46:27Speaker 1: out it was a tech issue, something to do with
- 46:29Speaker 1: the ECU. We had Jack Appley, I'll tell us on
- 46:31Speaker 1: the broadcast. Now we both still haven't heard entirely, and
- 46:34Speaker 1: we're hoping to catch up with Sena at some point
- 46:36Speaker 1: to find out a bit more about that. But then
- 46:38Speaker 1: the fact that he was involved in that crash with
- 46:41Speaker 1: Philip Salach and David Alonzo. I mean lucky that the
- 46:45Speaker 1: two other writers, so Senna and Philip were able to
- 46:48Speaker 1: restart Orbit from pit Lane from the two restarts that
- 46:52Speaker 1: happened after the original race restart, and then happy that
- 46:55Speaker 1: David Alonzo's all okay, you know, a bit of injury,
- 46:58Speaker 1: but no no major damage there. But for Senna, I
- 47:02Speaker 1: don't know about you, Matt. When I first started watching
- 47:04Speaker 1: the race, I saw him into these first corners and
- 47:08Speaker 1: I saw him getting overtaken, and I was saying to myself, Okay, Senta,
- 47:11Speaker 1: calm down. It seems like you know, you're not writing
- 47:13Speaker 1: how you normally do. Then we know that there was
- 47:16Speaker 1: that issue there, but I mean the pressure because in
- 47:20Speaker 1: the broadcast as well, leading up, we've heard Bertie saying,
- 47:22Speaker 1: you know, Senna's been linked to Moto GP rides for
- 47:25Speaker 1: next year, and all of a sudden he's on pole
- 47:26Speaker 1: the first race of the year, and we know that
- 47:28Speaker 1: the intact bike's good and man, who's really fast and
- 47:30Speaker 1: blah blah blah. I mean, what would Senna have been
- 47:33Speaker 1: thinking sitting on pole position? But then also the drama
- 47:36Speaker 1: that over felled do you think he handled it Okay?
- 47:39Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean probably if you asked him at the
- 47:42Speaker 2: start of the weekend whether he expected to be on pole,
- 47:44Speaker 2: he would have said, I would like to be on pole.
- 47:45Speaker 2: I'm not sure you would have necessarily expected it. Moto two,
- 47:49Speaker 2: to me at the moment, is a category where there's
- 47:51Speaker 2: not just an absolute outstanding you know, potential goat maybe
- 47:55Speaker 2: other than a Lonso in the field, but man, it's
- 47:57Speaker 2: even and there's guys that can win ray. This is
- 48:00Speaker 2: a get on podiums from everywhere. So it felt that
- 48:05Speaker 2: once he lost the lead early, it felt that he
- 48:08Speaker 2: wasn't necessarily playing the long game. It felt like he
- 48:10Speaker 2: was pretty desperate to get back to the front again.
- 48:12Speaker 2: And then obviously the bike had an issue. And the
- 48:14Speaker 2: worst thing in that situation is when you've got a
- 48:16Speaker 2: bike with an issue and you know it is and
- 48:18Speaker 2: you just don't want someone to run into you. And
- 48:20Speaker 2: unfortunately that issue happened with a lot So in the
- 48:23Speaker 2: absolute worst possible part of the track that sort of
- 48:25Speaker 2: switched back a little bit unsited. So we're glad that
- 48:28Speaker 2: everyone's okay out of that. But I think the thing
- 48:31Speaker 2: that AG has showed over the weekend. I don't expect
- 48:33Speaker 2: this a bit the last time we see him up there,
- 48:35Speaker 2: and you remember he's still relatively young in the World
- 48:37Speaker 2: Championship journey, right, He's not just a front runner every
- 48:40Speaker 2: single weekend. We've shown on his good weekends he can
- 48:42Speaker 2: be absolutely untouchable, like Philip Island last year. That's one
- 48:46Speaker 2: to file in the experienced basket. I reckon and the
- 48:49Speaker 2: next time you see him on the front row or
- 48:50Speaker 2: on pole, I would dare say he'd probably approach it
- 48:53Speaker 2: a little bit differently.
- 48:55Speaker 1: Yeah, no, I agree. I think that weekend there was
- 48:57Speaker 1: a lot of emotion, especially in that first race, got
- 49:01Speaker 1: something to prove. You know, he's in his twenties. We
- 49:04Speaker 1: saw what the runners are like on TikTok, so imagine
- 49:06Speaker 1: what you are when you're trying to prove to get
- 49:08Speaker 1: into Moto GP. I think, yeah, center, another weekend, bank learn,
- 49:13Speaker 1: continue grow. Like you said, it's going to be a
- 49:15Speaker 1: strong year. Then we're going to Motor three. We're going
- 49:18Speaker 1: to Joel Kelso, new manufacturer, new team. Started the weekend
- 49:22Speaker 1: off strong, same thing just fell back down throughout. I
- 49:25Speaker 1: think he finished eighteenth in the end. On Sunday's Grand
- 49:28Speaker 1: Prix and even he said, he's like, that's not the
- 49:30Speaker 1: result he was wanting. What's your take on Joel this
- 49:34Speaker 1: year is the MLAVE? Is it going to be a
- 49:36Speaker 1: lot trickier than he thought moving from the KTM to
- 49:39Speaker 1: the Honda.
- 49:40Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean look relative to you know, he and
- 49:42Speaker 2: his teammate, we're occupying the same part of tarmac for
- 49:45Speaker 2: the most of the race. And maybe that was the
- 49:47Speaker 2: level of that bike on that day at that time,
- 49:50Speaker 2: not what he would have wanted to start with. I mean,
- 49:51Speaker 2: did actually score points? I think it's fourteenth in the end,
- 49:54Speaker 2: is the only Australian that score points, which is a
- 49:55Speaker 2: bit of a grim statistic for the Aussie fans for Thailand.
- 49:58Speaker 2: But again in new address for him, we know it's
- 50:03Speaker 2: a big year for him. It kind of feels like
- 50:05Speaker 2: it feels like something definitive needs to happen for Joel
- 50:08Speaker 2: this year, you know, positive or negative. It feels there
- 50:10Speaker 2: needs to be a resolution this year. Not the not
- 50:14Speaker 2: the start that he would have wanted, but also not
- 50:16Speaker 2: terrible either in that there were flashes of promise there
- 50:19Speaker 2: that it could be quite good one to file away
- 50:22Speaker 2: and build on. But yeah, he you expected him that
- 50:25Speaker 2: he might come forward a little bit, and he kind
- 50:27Speaker 2: of felt like he stalled out a little bit there.
- 50:28Speaker 2: It was as a strange Motor of three race actually,
- 50:31Speaker 2: and that it just turned into a one on one
- 50:33Speaker 2: battle at the end. That was quite a big breakaway.
- 50:35Speaker 2: But I don't imagine that we're going to be seeing
- 50:37Speaker 2: him sitting in fourteenth for too long. I think that's
- 50:39Speaker 2: going to come forward pretty quickly, I hope.
- 50:41Speaker 1: So I hope that we can see center and Joel
- 50:43Speaker 1: closer to the front again, because I mean, last year,
- 50:46Speaker 1: we both know the battles were happening Moto three though,
- 50:49Speaker 1: it's just it's some of the best racing. The people
- 50:52Speaker 1: who don't watch it, and we say this all the
- 50:53Speaker 1: time on the pods, watch Moto three. It is so good.
- 50:57Speaker 2: I always say it's the last lap for twenty sta
- 51:00Speaker 2: because that's how it feels. There's an intensity the way
- 51:02Speaker 2: those races go. There's none of this I will just
- 51:05Speaker 2: build to the boil here. It's like, oh, the gloves
- 51:06Speaker 2: are off from the start. What I quite liked about
- 51:09Speaker 2: the race on Sunday was sometimes those massive pack races
- 51:12Speaker 2: where you could literally throw a handkerchief over about fifteen
- 51:15Speaker 2: to them on the last lap of fun, but a
- 51:17Speaker 2: bit of a lottery one on one battle's quite fun
- 51:20Speaker 2: for the tactics that they employ, and particularly the way
- 51:23Speaker 2: that particular racetrack is. You know that the last corner
- 51:25Speaker 2: is going to feature somewhere because of the way that
- 51:27Speaker 2: that track configuration is so yeah, really really good TV
- 51:30Speaker 2: and probably shouldn't be legal, but I'm glad it is.
- 51:34Speaker 1: The fact that it was like zero point zero zero
- 51:37Speaker 1: three was the gap between al Manza and Kilez over
- 51:42Speaker 1: the line. I would be posted a photo on the
- 51:44Speaker 1: Fox Social so if you want to see, you can
- 51:46Speaker 1: see the line where they're front wheels. The difference, it's insane.
- 51:51Speaker 2: One third of the width of a front tire basically
- 51:53Speaker 2: after thirty five minutes of racing gets pretty nuts.
- 51:55Speaker 1: It's funny. You just mean, I'm probably never going to
- 51:58Speaker 1: forget that took to crase to end the podcast, so guys,
- 52:01Speaker 1: I promise. But the fact that Matt Burt was going
- 52:04Speaker 1: look at the gap. They've got about five talk talks
- 52:06Speaker 1: in between them at the moment. I love the fact, honestly,
- 52:10Speaker 1: I love it. I love it so much. I think
- 52:14Speaker 1: I think we've spoken enough about Thailand. We have We've
- 52:17Speaker 1: got a little bit of a break now before they
- 52:19Speaker 1: head to Brazil. Now, I've been asking everyone what do
- 52:22Speaker 1: they know about Brazil. All I can tell you guys
- 52:24Speaker 1: so far is apparently it's about thirty lap race, so
- 52:27Speaker 1: the laps are shorter, but it's gonna be quite quick.
- 52:30Speaker 1: But I am excited because first time we have been
- 52:33Speaker 1: to Brazil in forever, We've got a Brazilian writer. It
- 52:36Speaker 1: seems like it's gonna be a party. You guys at home. Sorry,
