- 0:03Judgment Day happens. So you're remembering the future? No. The boy is the alternate
- 0:08timeline version of you.
- 0:10Calriss is remembering his own past, which is our future.
- 0:14That makes it so much better. How can he be remembering two timelines?
- 0:19It is possible if he were exposed to a nexus point in the time flow when he were in a quantum field.
- 0:24Can you stop him talking like that? Is there a switch or something?
- 0:27Pops dragon. A nexus point is an event in time of such importance that it gives
- 0:32rise to a vastly different future.
- 0:35After John was attacked, when I was in the sphere, that's when the memories began.
- 0:41If John Connor were to be killed or compromised, it could result in the ability
- 0:45to remember both pasts, theoretically.
- 0:49Music.
- 0:55All right, guys. Oh, wait. You didn't do that in the last podcast?
- 1:02Your Chewbacca impression? I know. I feel bad.
- 1:05Right? I think it's because he's technically not in it. Yeah.
- 1:08Well. So that's why. Yeah. Fair enough.
- 1:12So, can you hear my chair squeaking? Yeah, kind of, actually, yeah.
- 1:16Okay, can you hear this? Yeah, I can hear it squeaking. Okay, guys.
- 1:20So, I just want people to know I'm on a squeaky chair. I'm using my folks' office,
- 1:25so I'm not recording my regular office.
- 1:27So, if you hear this, that's not me farting.
- 1:32Let's get that out of the way now. That sounds like a Terminator fart.
- 1:35There you go. Metallic? Yeah. It'd be like.
- 1:39Yeah.
- 1:42All right. Yeah. This movie actually has a tagline and I like my movie taglines, right?
- 1:50Okay. But this one has the perfect fucking tagline for this film.
- 1:55The rules have just been reset.
- 1:58Yep. What they should have added onto that was add not for the better.
- 2:04This had such fucking potential Guys, I was on board for some of this I was
- 2:11like the first couple of minutes Okay,
- 2:12we're doing a requel Kind of like this You know,
- 2:17but oh boy If you don't have the original cast back And you're going to be ballsy
- 2:21by doing this You better do it right Like they did with Halloween 2018 And Halloween
- 2:25Kills and Ends They did a perfect job of blending old with new And, ugh All right,
- 2:33So Paramount bought the rights. They were going to do a trilogy.
- 2:38So this was already greenlit for two more sequels. They had to rush it,
- 2:42go figure, because the rules are- The rights.
- 2:46The 2019 camera got the rights back. Yes, yeah.
- 2:51And that's why he quickly had Dark Fate ready to go, because he wanted to fix
- 2:58what was about to happen. Yeah. Yeah.
- 3:01You've got Alan Taylor on board. Not a bad choice. Did Thor Dark World.
- 3:06Not a fan of it, but I can see why he'd do a Terminator film.
- 3:09And he's obviously known for Game of Thrones.
- 3:12That might be the director's downfall on that one, just because that's why he
- 3:16casted Emilia Clarke. And she is fucking woeful. Yeah.
- 3:20I mean. Her and Jay Courtney, basically the two leads, because Arnie's a supporting
- 3:25character here, and he just looks tired and old, sadly.
- 3:28I'm sorry to say. but the two main leads here are Piss Poor.
- 3:35Yeah, not too good. We got Lorne Balt this time, who I like as a composer.
- 3:42I like him. He did all of Michael Bay's stuff and Mission Impossible.
- 3:46So he's a good director, and I do like the score on this. I don't get my ba-dum-bum-ba-dum.
- 3:52Get it at the end. Get it at the end, yeah.
- 3:54Yeah, but not really. Yeah. And Arnold
- 3:59Is casted And he's not
- 4:02casted Oh boy As the
- 4:05Terminator He is casted as the
- 4:08Guardian It doesn't even make sense Well it
- 4:12does because he's protecting No I know that there but You know Because he's
- 4:17not a Terminator anymore He doesn't terminate and that's the problem I'm just
- 4:21fucking bored with this already With this Arnie as a good guy Terminator It
- 4:24was played out after 2 I never got it again and again And it's just, you know,
- 4:30fucking It's just boring me now So it is.
- 4:35Well, on paper you got a pretty good Well, some good actors in here,
- 4:40You got Arnold Who plays the Guardian, Jason Clarke Who I do like to see,
- 4:43I love him in Zero I do like him, he's in it And he's good in it,
- 4:47and he was in Zero Dark 30, so I enjoy Jason Clarke's stuff,
- 4:51Mila Clarke Nope, as Sarah, Jay Courtney Nope, that's Kyle Reese.
- 4:56Yeah. Then you got J.K. Simmons, which wasn't a bad idea of why he's there.
- 5:03Matt Smith, completely wasted, plays Alex. With a dodgy American accent.
- 5:09Then you've got the Dysons. The Dysons, they created Genesis, right? Yes.
- 5:14No, no, basically after Pooh, so basically after Pooh,
- 5:20Skynet was no more, but this is Miles Dyson's son, who was a kid in Terminator 2.
- 5:26Oh, that's how I recognised the name. He was the kid in Terminator. Yes. Okay. Yes.
- 5:30Fair enough. And then, oh my god, wasted.
- 5:34You've got Lee Byung-hun, I believe is how you pronounce his name.
- 5:39My apologies if I got that wrong.
- 5:40He plays the cop. He's kind of like the T-1000 in this. Yes, the T-1000.
- 5:44He is so good. I like him. He should have been in the whole film.
- 5:48You've got, I mean, he's He plays Storm Shadow in G.I. Joe, Magnificent Seven. He's in Squid Game.
- 5:53I Saw the Devil, Red 2. The guy's got, I really like seeing him on the screen
- 5:58and I wanted more of him, but sadly we don't get enough of him.
- 6:03In the beginning, I think would have worked. It's kind of like a,
- 6:08just to kind of recap, I guess you can say.
- 6:11It's 1997. It's pretty much Earth being destroyed.
- 6:14It's actually a pretty nice little segment. Unfortunately, it's
- 6:17kind of ruined by the incredibly bland voiceover
- 6:21by jay corny there's some
- 6:24nice shots though the plane and the little kids look out the window and he sees the
- 6:26missiles flying in the air you know i think this is what they were actually
- 6:30something similar that they were going to shoot for the ending of three but
- 6:35they decided not to because of it was too soon after 9 11 but yeah okay yeah
- 6:40but but no it's It's effectively done with the apocalypse essentially happening.
- 6:45Yeah. And then you see the back to the steampunk world where I talked about
- 6:51last podcast more of a Holocaust field.
- 6:53Yes. So you see the humans being barcoded. Yeah.
- 6:56As you're being put into camps and stuff like that.
- 6:59So he went too far off the path there. Yeah.
- 7:03I love how they changed the classic photo we have had.
- 7:07Oh, it's the red photo. insight we've had this photo since the very first time
- 7:11and and we get this horrible redone picture with amelia clark it's horrendous
- 7:18if i was linda hamilton i would sue for millions.
- 7:21It's horrendous and it jars it sticks out like a sore thumb as does she sadly
- 7:27you know we're going from linda hamilton to and amelia clark she looks she has
- 7:33no presence to try and make her a bit of a sort of badass girl boss type.
- 7:37She's not. She has no presence. She has no sort of command and authority.
- 7:42She looks like a child, you know?
- 7:44It's just bad, bad casting.
- 7:49I'd like to be opening sequence. You have me with, they're going in and they're
- 7:54attacking Skynet and you got the old fashioned droids back and they're doing
- 7:59their best to kick some ass.
- 8:00We'll see the time travel machine. And then you realize what they're doing. Well, let me, what?
- 8:04At last see the time travel on the machine that they use.
- 8:09And that's, yeah, that's what I was about to get to. Thanks, Trevor.
- 8:13I hate life, guys. I hate life. I really do.
- 8:18Don't just help me out. So as, oh, here we go. He does it again.
- 8:25So, oh, just, oh my God. I always sound like being terminated.
- 8:29I'm like Matt Smith whispering in your ear. No, that goes to Jason Clarke.
- 8:33Oh dear God. Okay. Yeah. Okay.
- 8:35So anyways, yeah. So as, I don't know if you heard his voice over my narrating
- 8:42there, but yes, they're trying to get, stop the Terminator for going into these
- 8:47time travel thingy-ma-jobber. Mm-hmm.
- 8:49Because obviously the Terminator is going to go after to the 1984 film.
- 8:55And this, I was like, okay, I'm into this. Oh boy.
- 9:01So we're back in the original film. You even have the dumpster scene.
- 9:06You got already coming back.
- 9:08I actually enjoyed it. I'm going with this.
- 9:11Jake Hortons, Michael Biehn, nope. The punks, the new actors you use for punks, jarred for me as well.
- 9:19You know what's pissing me off about this? With all the technology,
- 9:23they could have easily brought those actors back or used the same scene and
- 9:27put them in there. Yeah, totally.
- 9:29That could easily have been done with their permission. I'm sure Bill Paxton
- 9:33would have been fine with it. Brad Thompson, yeah.
- 9:36Yeah, and the gang. I can't see them saying no, know, because I do like how, give me your clothes.
- 9:43Yeah. And then you hear, you won't be needing them. And then there's Arnie kicking his ass.
- 9:48So I liked where this was going. Good Arnie fighting bad Arnie.
- 9:52Oh, sorry, the guardian. Yeah.
- 9:53And I really did enjoy this.
- 9:58The only problem I have with you doing, going back, peppering,
- 10:03going back into the original, you need to have the original cast back for that.
- 10:07Yeah. out you've got arnie which is great the cops are throwaways that's
- 10:11fine but and i love like i
- 10:14mentioned the new t1000 but if
- 10:17you're going to do this you need to have robert patrick back and you need to
- 10:21have linda hamilton back yeah and you need to especially have michael b 100
- 10:25percent uh and even down to the details like the punks you know bill paxton
- 10:30and stuff brandt thompson they could Could have at least got permission to use CGI their faces.
- 10:35I would say as well, the CGI is on Canny Valley with Arnie's face.
- 10:40You know, it was like they did with Rogue One with Princess Leia and Peter Cushing.
- 10:44It was around the same period this was released.
- 10:47It does jar slightly, you know, and you are sort of focusing in on the flaws
- 10:52of it, you know, supposed to be young Arnie when it's clearly CGI grafted onto a stand-in's face.
- 10:59But whatever at least we did get like the
- 11:02young arnie but we didn't get we got completely different
- 11:05actors for all of the rest of them essentially which does
- 11:08jar a lot i still liked
- 11:12it i thought it was i thought it was clever and i wasn't it was fun but the
- 11:16piggyback on your comment you couldn't stop looking at it it's the one reason
- 11:21when we get to the mad maxes is the reason george George Miller had to recast Charlize Theron. Yeah.
- 11:29Because he goes, I could have easily de-aged her.
- 11:32Not that much. She still looks fairly young.
- 11:35But the problem is people will be more focused on the de-aging than they would
- 11:38the landscape she's shooting around her. Yeah.
- 11:42So that's why he didn't do it. So that's kind of what you just said a little
- 11:45bit there. Pretty much, yeah. I still went with it. I still enjoyed it.
- 11:48I thought it was kind of fun.
- 11:49And you have me. I love-
- 11:52the T-1000. I love the actor playing him.
- 11:56He doesn't speak. I can buy the T-1000 more than I can buy the rest of him being
- 12:01recast because in my sort of head canon, I can say, well, he can reshape.
- 12:05He can become whatever shape he wants. Yeah, exactly.
- 12:09I can sort of run with that with the T-1000. But for some reason,
- 12:13the punks, I don't know, that's only really tiny roles.
- 12:17But that's a popular scene. People quote that all the time. So you better be
- 12:21careful with it. Yeah, exactly.
- 12:24They had me right up until the punks. So they did.
- 12:29Yeah, we're on the same page so far. Yes.
- 12:33You've had me. I was into it. I was like, okay, you're doing something different.
- 12:36Yeah. You could have some mistakes. That's fine. I'll go with it.
- 12:40But once Jay Courtney gets into the car and he sees there's a T-800 there,
- 12:48this is where the film is done. Yeah. It's over. Yes.
- 12:51It's over. Yeah. Yeah. Pretty much. So if you, if you guys like I'd watch the
- 12:56first 20 minutes and I turn it off.
- 12:59Or at least keep it on until the T 800 gets it once you've been to the T 1000
- 13:03gets it, which by the way, he gets it way too soon.
- 13:07He's the best villain. I mean, again, it's why can't these fucking people get the villain, right?
- 13:13You have them, you finally brought back to you and you kill them. What?
- 13:17Not even halfway through the film? Well, as soon as a child pops up,
- 13:20i.e. Emilia Clarke, and goes, come with me if you want to live. Oh, God.
- 13:25Like, sort of like, it's like a flippin', yeah, it's basically like a small
- 13:30kid, you know, trying to be medicine and sort of authoritative.
- 13:35And it just, that's me, I'm done. You know what I mean? I can't take this serious.
- 13:39You should have got actors of calibre. I'm sure the other ones were busy doing
- 13:43Marvel, but Scarlett Johansson, Chris Evans would have been good.
- 13:47Uh somebody he hadn't died yet he was still alive you should have brought him
- 13:54back for kyle reese even bring him back why not yeah but he probably he probably
- 13:58read the script and said ah no thanks the script well i think probably look
- 14:02not bad on paper it's all over the place.
- 14:05Oh my god there's the line that the guardian gives you have to meet with him
- 14:11yeah i know and then she's like i have to want i want to i want to i want to
- 14:15fall in love first i'm like oh fuck Fuck me, here we go.
- 14:17Not only am I bored at this point with Arnie playing good guy Terminators,
- 14:21I'm also bored with the stupid, corny humor, you know, when he does that smile
- 14:24thing, you know, and stuff and you need to mate and stuff.
- 14:29Yeah, we've already seen this before, done a couple of times,
- 14:33you know, in Terminator 2 and 3.
- 14:34It was shit then and it's even more shit now, you know. Give me a break.
- 14:43Here's the plot. So, Fuck me.
- 14:48So when the T-800 arrived in 1984 in Los Angeles, that Skynet's T-800. Yes. Yes.
- 14:54When that is crushed and killed by Sarah and Pops. Yes.
- 14:59It's programmed on, it was enabled by Sarah and Pops. Uh-huh.
- 15:04It can't be Pops, he wasn't there.
- 15:07A reprogrammed T-800 is sent by an unknown party. We never find out who actually
- 15:12sent the fucking T-800. Yes, I know, which is convenient.
- 15:15Yeah. Yeah. Sent Pops into 1973 to protect a young Sarah when she was nine years
- 15:21old after her parents were killed by a T-1000 sent by Skynet. Yes, yes.
- 15:27Couldn't see any of that. That would have been alright. Can we see that scene?
- 15:30We don't see the scene itself, but we see the aftermath again.
- 15:32D.H. Darnie with the sunglasses on as the protector of her.
- 15:37Yeah, I suppose it sort of suggested that John may have sent it back,
- 15:41but it's never explained.
- 15:43This script is a convoluted mess, and while some aspects of it would have been
- 15:50fun, see with time travel, You know what I mean?
- 15:53You're, you're going down a rabbit hole of all sorts of plot holes.
- 15:56And this is a prime example of it.
- 15:58So it is. So I don't know what the film is.
- 16:01Films, films, films. If the film is good. Yeah. And you're with the characters
- 16:05back to the future is a perfect example. You can get away with mishmash. Yes.
- 16:09You can get away. Well, what about this and this? This is taking itself too
- 16:12fucking seriously for us not to pick out. But even.
- 16:15We're back to the future. You're just like, oh, fuck it. I don't care.
- 16:17I'm going. But even I would defend back to the future and saying that although
- 16:21it appears there are plot holes,
- 16:22it's actually pretty watertight whenever you and it
- 16:25plays by its own rules this rule book is thrown right out
- 16:28the window here and see all this bullshit about 1973
- 16:31and stuff i mean that's just a
- 16:34plot device to sort of have that have them change things up and have arnie in
- 16:38it basically as a good terminator that's all that's there for and the fact that
- 16:42they're so lazy they can't even be bothered to explain who sent arnie back in
- 16:481973 it's just it's just a jar sticks out like a sore thumb,
- 16:52like so much of the rest of this.
- 16:54They couldn't even be arsed, you know?
- 16:58So, all these years, they have built a time machine. Yeah. Oh my god.
- 17:05More bullshit. Yeah.
- 17:08Okay, so Sarah Connor and Pops, I can't believe I'm saying Pops,
- 17:11the Terminator, you know what, I'm going to call it Pops because it's definitely
- 17:15not a Terminator anymore. Yeah, no, no, I don't know what this is.
- 17:18They've spent 11 years preparing to travel to 1997 to stop Judgment Day. Yes.
- 17:24Okay. Yes. And Kyle Ray's convinces them, no, we have to go to 2017 instead
- 17:28because he thinks Judgement Day is going to happen now because of his memories
- 17:33telling him so. He's having like double memories of two lives.
- 17:36Yeah, because of the loophole or whatever you call it.
- 17:40There's some line by Arnie where Arnie says, theoretically, this is possible
- 17:45because the timelines have changed so he's experiencing two sets of memories.
- 17:51Yeah, I get that. But here's what I don't get. We'll get to it at the end.
- 17:56I'm jumping ahead. I'm doing a Trevor.
- 17:59But I caught myself. See that? I caught myself doing it. I'm not being a Trevor.
- 18:04Oh my God. So when they time travel to 2017 now. Yes.
- 18:10Can two people time travel together in the same one? They like mold and be freaky as shit.
- 18:15Okay. And it appears that Arnie, also, how does Arnie, is he Doc Brown now?
- 18:21Him and the child? I mean, leah clark are they like
- 18:24doc brown and marty now where they can just build a time machine out of spare
- 18:27parts in a fucking garage you know right so i'm more concerned about how they
- 18:31actually built a time machine i get that arnie knows about well i guess arnie
- 18:35knows technology and he's you know so and maybe he built the other one but hold
- 18:39on they're in the 1970s no no the technology of the,
- 18:441970s and 1980s up to 1984 well if you want to make this argument then you can
- 18:51make the same Margo by Back to the Future of the DeLorean.
- 18:53But Doc Brown was a genius, and he had a giant flux capacitor.
- 18:56You know what I'm saying?
- 18:58My point is, you just proved my point.
- 19:01Back to the Future gets away with it because the silliness and the fun and you're
- 19:04having a great time with it.
- 19:05This one doesn't because it's taking itself too seriously. Yes,
- 19:08and there's too much plot conveniences.
- 19:11There's way too many plot conveniences where it's just like,
- 19:14they're basically saying, ah, the audience are stupid, they'll not ask these questions, but we are.
- 19:20So anyway, long story short, Doc Brown, i.e. Pops, has made a time machine with a child.
- 19:28So, okay. Okay, so Skynet's gone, which they took care of already. We know that.
- 19:36Technically, they took care of it in Salvation. Yeah.
- 19:42And Dyson dying. You mean in Terminator 3? Genesis is the new one. Yes.
- 19:49But people don't realize that that's actually Skynet in disguise. Yeah.
- 19:54And Doctor Who is the one implementing the plan. Yes, that's right. Yeah, Matt Smith.
- 20:00Yeah, who here is called for some reason in the credits Matthew Smith, but anyway.
- 20:05I saw that. I saw that. Yeah, he's being sophisticated. Yeah, well, this is it.
- 20:09I think it was maybe he was trying to sort of establish himself at this time
- 20:12as a Hollywood actor, so he had sort of rebranded himself slightly.
- 20:16But anyway, well, he's, you know, good on him. He's done well with Terminator Genisys and Mortgage.
- 20:25That's a good actor. if i was if i was if i was matthew
- 20:27oh sorry matt smith i'd fire my agent two seconds
- 20:31right but here's the thing if skynet was defeated
- 20:34in night there's overlapping timelines here
- 20:37i don't know but but there's overlapping timelines that don't make sense
- 20:40you know because if you know because the events of this film rewrite and render
- 20:48moot the events of terminator 2 you know so see see the way the timelines are
- 20:54so messed up here it doesn't actually
- 20:56make logical sense within its own universe, or at least in my head.
- 21:00But again, it's another classic case of, oh, the audience are stupid.
- 21:04We'll just have like a chase scene or we'll have some action so that the audience
- 21:08don't dwell on it too much.
- 21:10It's basically smoke and mirrors.
- 21:12So it is, let's basically fool the audience by giving them an explosion.
- 21:17You know, I said in the last podcast, near the end of it, that this film has such hope.
- 21:25And I always never understand why they go a different direction.
- 21:30Do you ever, you know, when you watch the film, you're like, oh, I'm into this.
- 21:32And then it goes fucking way out of the fucking, outside the box.
- 21:36And you had the T-1000 back played by Awesome Dude.
- 21:39You had, I liked the O'Brien character, actually. I really enjoyed him coming back from the original.
- 21:46He's the one cop who survived and has always been trying to hunt these guys
- 21:50down. Yes. I liked that, that whole Mulder kind of character. Yeah.
- 21:55And then you had beautiful visual effects. They could have been taken on an
- 22:00AI form, Alex, they call them, which is played by Matt Smith. Oh, sorry, Matthew.
- 22:05Dr. Who? Yeah. You had the bus scene, which was really fun. The helicopter stuff was cool.
- 22:12You had some- I think the CGI is looping here. All these good CGI. You had it there.
- 22:20And then you go off into, you know what it is.
- 22:25I'm going to say, oh my God. And then you had Jason Clarke, who... He's a good villain.
- 22:31What a plot twist you would have had if you didn't put him on the fucking poster. And the trailer.
- 22:37They give it away in the trailer. I remember at the time, there was a whole
- 22:40outcry, and quite rightly so.
- 22:42They give away the big twist in the trailer that he was basically the bad Terminator in this.
- 22:48You know, John Connor was the villain. And they give it away in the trailer.
- 22:51I mean, this is just mismanagement. yeah this
- 22:55this is this is that studio yeah oh
- 22:58i don't think the director would have wanted studio mismanagement so
- 23:02it is but i would say but aside from all that given
- 23:05away the that and the trailer and stuff and you know for
- 23:08me the major problems here are the script running amok and i'm being nonsensical
- 23:14when you really examine it you know they do try and get away with with all of
- 23:18the action scenes and you know thinking the audience won't pay attention but
- 23:21the major thing for me even worse than the script is jay courtney and amelia clark.
- 23:28Jay courtney jay courtney's kind race i don't know
- 23:31even if it's just his acting or the way it's written i think it's
- 23:34a bit of both actually there's what was the vulnerability where
- 23:37you feel sorry for kyle racy's this war porn devastated
- 23:41long-suffering guy that you feel for and you feel so sorry for and you relate
- 23:46to and you're rooting for this guy this is just this is like Like some model
- 23:51who in some way has been no way affected by all the horrors he's seen and stuff.
- 23:57It's just, it's terrible.
- 24:00Compare this to michael bing in the original this is just it's like night and day so it is,
- 24:07amelia clark just has no presence i'm sorry
- 24:10to say she has the physicality of a small child but yet they ridiculously try
- 24:16and like have her like bossing everybody about and you know shouting and being
- 24:20badass action check whenever she's shooting a gun she looks like she's going
- 24:23to be blown back into the fucking next room you know what i mean well she was wielding swords,
- 24:30I'm not in the game of thrones but you know so can't comment on that but I mean
- 24:35my three-year-old niece would make a more convincing sir connor you know we have water pistol.
- 24:45Yeah yeah so we got the t3000 yes that's it's pretty much all that is is nanobytes
- 24:53yeah Yeah. They pretty much take over the body.
- 24:56And so there you go. That's what John Connor is. I also thought.
- 24:59Because you see him get grabbed by Matt, AI with Matt Smith. Yeah.
- 25:03As he was, as John was time traveling. Yes.
- 25:07Another scene that should have been cut or handled better because it would have
- 25:11made more sense if you had a picture of, of,
- 25:15of John Connor looking at the, as they're time traveling and the camera could
- 25:20pan right above his, behind his shoulder.
- 25:22We could have saw Matt Smith giving him a glare That's all you need to show
- 25:27But once he grabbed him and his face starts changing And turning fire Well you
- 25:31knew John Connor's dead He's not getting out of this I didn't think it was going
- 25:34to be this easy did you Yeah so right there you planted the seed Oh he's a bad guy now Why do that.
- 25:40You can show that in a flashback After he
- 25:43shows up And he's been revealed he's the
- 25:46bad guy But why do it so early in the film Also
- 25:49I have to say and I'm with Matt Smith fan matt smith's
- 25:53accent is very inconsistent he's english
- 25:56at the very start here or it's like his usual sort
- 25:59of voice and then next thing um whenever he pops up
- 26:02later on he's like got this weird sort of fake
- 26:04american accent and stuff it's just jarring and and
- 26:08again i love matt and i think he's a great
- 26:10actor and a great guy but it's just like what's going on here
- 26:13yeah apparently he was being set up to be a villain
- 26:17of the main villain for what was
- 26:20proposed as another trilogy that never happened you
- 26:23know after this one was so critically panned and stuff it's it's just there's
- 26:28so also i would say as well the whole genesis app thing total play on black
- 26:32mirror you know black mirror do that thing like basically with every episode
- 26:36type thing yeah it's just it's just a mish mish of,
- 26:41all crazy ideas and bullshit.
- 26:44And you have this, you have this bus scene, which I really, I really enjoy just
- 26:47for the effects, but there's no, here's the problem.
- 26:51I figured it out. Yeah. There's a problem.
- 26:55In Terminator, you had the violence. You had the innocence. Yes.
- 26:57Of Sarah Connor and the other Sarah Connors.
- 27:00Even in the policemen getting gunned down, it's a horrible scene.
- 27:03Fun is this. It's terrifying seeing cops getting gunned down in their own home turf.
- 27:08It's brutal. The second one, you had pizzazz.
- 27:13You had really cool new state-of-the-art effects. You had a really badass villain.
- 27:18Some hokiness where you and I couldn't stand, but it's still a solid little
- 27:22film. And you loved Arnie. no matter what. Yeah.
- 27:25It's Arnie. Yeah, it's my summer eye candy. Yeah. Not Arnie's.
- 27:28That sounded bad. It's Terminator, gold popcorn. Yeah.
- 27:32We'll take it. No problem.
- 27:34And if Edward Furlong did get it in Judgment Day or Sarah Connor did get it
- 27:40in Judgment Day, you were rooting for Arnie to save them.
- 27:44And you felt sorry for Miles Dyson. You liked that character.
- 27:49These two hanging off a bus, I was hoping the bus would follow. Well, I was also.
- 27:54Or they fall. Yeah. That's my point. My point is that you've got these effects
- 27:58guys working their asses off to give you some solid effort here and probably even the director.
- 28:04But when you cast these two Muppets in this part, I could not give one rat's ass who died.
- 28:12Well, let's just say. The only one I was rooting for was O'Brien and the Terminator.
- 28:16Well, sorry, the Guardian. No, no, no, no. I was rooting for Jason Clarke.
- 28:21And Matt Smith. Sorry, Matthew. oh
- 28:24my god and then after the bus scene they get arrested
- 28:27and they're playing the bad boys thing oh it's it's
- 28:30yeah it's completely out of um you know
- 28:33what i mean just like ruins the tone i
- 28:36know the tone was wasn't exactly the most powerful anyway but then
- 28:39bad boys bad boys what you yeah it's just
- 28:42cringe and and then then like arnie's like
- 28:45in the intervening years arnie's like had a hideout in the
- 28:48mountain where he's got all these guns but he's also like become more
- 28:51human for some reason even though he's an android which doesn't make any sense
- 28:54and he has her ghetto blaster and like he
- 28:56started throwing like i don't know maybe it
- 28:59was her pictures he has from whenever she was a child we draw on you know i
- 29:04remember he drew them himself because he's like a fucking child himself you
- 29:08know becoming more human it's like i mean what shit am i watching here you know
- 29:12and then you've got the there's a nice scene where they're flying these helicopters
- 29:16right And he goes, I'll be back.
- 29:19And he self-sacrifices himself to jump into the other blades of the helicopter,
- 29:22which I thought was cool. Yeah, but it doesn't make any sense. No, let me finish.
- 29:25Let me finish. Let me finish. Go ahead.
- 29:28And then he comes back. He's got a little cut on his left cheek. I'm like, fucking A.
- 29:32He would be a robot by this point. His skin would be gone. But fine,
- 29:35we'll go over that. Here's the problem.
- 29:38Terminator 1 and 2, there was peril. There was dread.
- 29:44There was all these mixed emotions. Yep. This played off like an Avengers film.
- 29:50Yes, and I think- Really cool effects.
- 29:52Yep. But they're getting away
- 29:54from these droids that they really would not be able to get away with.
- 29:58The other ones, Terminator 2, Salvation, and the original Terminator,
- 30:03yes, they got away, way but it was on the hard shore to get away from it and
- 30:09that was just one fucking machine,
- 30:12and these guys are getting away from the cops and
- 30:15they're just it's just so it's too easy no tension you know what i mean there's
- 30:20no power it comes across like we're watching a video game here you know it's
- 30:25basically you know explosion and something stupid happens and you know we've
- 30:30We've got wooden characters and actors in the roles. Sorry to say.
- 30:34Arnie looks tired and bored and just there for the paycheck.
- 30:37Going through the motions. Arnie's just going through the motions here. So yeah sorry to say.
- 30:42And along with a load of plot holes within the script. And stuff that doesn't
- 30:46tie in with the rest of the films.
- 30:48This is a complete mess.
- 30:51So it is. The stuff with Arnie jumping out of the helicopter when he says I'll be back.
- 30:55That was a scene solely to get him to say I'll be back.
- 30:58It doesn't make any sense because he just like you know
- 31:01jason clark you don't see him and jason clark fight when
- 31:04he jumps out of the helicopter and then jason clark just pops up at cyberdome
- 31:08systems and so does arnie with a fucking spear or something you know it's just
- 31:14it's like a superhero film few like you say like an avengers marvel film fused
- 31:19with watching somebody play a video game,
- 31:23So when Arnie sacrifices himself to sucks the other guy into the time machine. Yeah. Once again.
- 31:32You had me. I was like, well, you did, because with Arnie Gets It, I get upset.
- 31:35It's my Arnie. Okay. I'll be the first one. I mean, if you don't,
- 31:39then you're not an Arnie fan. Yep.
- 31:40And I don't think you really are, Trevor. You've always put him down.
- 31:46So when he gets sucked in, I'm like, oh.
- 31:50But when he fucking comes back as a fully formed T3000 model,
- 31:57because the goo absorbed into
- 31:59him, and now he's a fully functional back to being a badass guardian. Yep.
- 32:04I was like, oh, fuck me. Why are you killing me now? Yeah, yeah.
- 32:10Yeah, he says, I've had an upgrade, you know.
- 32:15And then they go to the fucking farmhouse of young Kyle Reese where Kyle tells
- 32:20him, remember Genesis is Skynet, Genesis is Skynet.
- 32:23Should have fixed everything, he doesn't need to tell him that now.
- 32:26They say that, but he says just in case. or something like that.
- 32:30I don't know. Who cares? Yeah. But it gets worse. Who gives a shit?
- 32:32It gets fucking worse. Yeah.
- 32:34As he's talking to his younger self, Arnold and fucking idiot Amelia Clark are
- 32:42talking and she goes, Kyle Reese is a good man.
- 32:46Now Sarah can fuck him. Yeah. Because that's what she wanted.
- 32:49She had to make sure she was a good man. Yeah.
- 32:51And that she loved him. Now they're going to go have yum yum time and make John Connor.
- 32:55There's actually also zero sexual chemistry between
- 32:58the two of them throughout the whole film oh there's sarah yeah
- 33:01best part of the film though we get it the end credits for
- 33:04two reasons a it's my
- 33:07dun dun dun and do you know
- 33:10there's a mid-credits scene again tanning with the whole marvel thing uh no
- 33:14it's not no not tanning with marvel but there is a mid-credits scene what is
- 33:19it i just noticed it for the first time last night when i was watching it for
- 33:22this podcast it's basically the wreckage of cyberdine and matt smith's hologram. Sorry, Matthew.
- 33:29His hologram appears very briefly again. That's it.
- 33:33So it is. It's like setting up the sequel that never happened. Thankfully.
- 33:39This is like the true nadir of the Terminator series.
- 33:43You know, you talk about 3 being awful. At least 3 was in its own way a Terminator film.
- 33:50You know, this is I don't know what this is. This is a bad fan film.
- 33:54This is like what the perfect way I'm actually going to dig deep here because
- 34:00the filmmakers did it so I'm not. But this is the perfect way of explaining this.
- 34:06This is when you, if you go to, if you go to the record store. Yeah. Right.
- 34:12And you, let's say the Eagles. I'm going to get the Eagles box set.
- 34:17Yep. Right. Their greatest hits. I'm all excited.
- 34:20I'm going to get myself the Eagles box set. Right.
- 34:23I'm going to sit down, put it in and listen to the Eagles. Okay. And just chill.
- 34:29But she ended up getting the greatest hits of the Eagles played by Hanson.
- 34:35Or Heath Hanson. Actually, I take that back. Hanson's actually kind of talented.
- 34:40What? Heath Hanson? The Barats? They are.
- 34:43But my point being, do you get what I'm saying with that?
- 34:48It's like a per cover bond. Yeah. They're trying to give us back what we want but poorly done.
- 34:56They're giving us the Terminator greatest hits But like you say,
- 34:59but it's done by, I don't know, Garza Loud.
- 35:04Yeah, or Aqua. Aqua. Yeah. Ace of Base does the Eagles.
- 35:11So that's what this film is. No, I've got it. It's Terminator done by Westlife. There you go.
- 35:20Terminator's greatest hits by Boyzone. Jesus Christ.
- 35:26Actually, it'd probably be better than this crap. I think it's a pretty good
- 35:29metaphor. Actually, I'm proud of us with that one. Yeah.
- 35:32All right. So we're going to pretty much wrap that one up.
- 35:37I just don't, I can't even give any more time to this piece of shit.
- 35:42Dreadful. All right. We're going to. Comedy gold for all their own reasons, you know.
- 35:47We're going to be coming back with Dark Fate as I've been boasting about it.
- 35:52I really did enjoy that fucking film. and it's violent and it's gritty and it just throws no punches.
- 35:58And so I could be wrong. I got to revisit it again, but I remember going,
- 36:02I'm looking forward. Yeah, and it shows it's Cameron's work.
- 36:06So we'll see what happens here. And hopefully out of the retrospective,
- 36:10we get four good films. Well, that'd be all right.
- 36:13Due to Genesis being so terrible, I checked out of the Terminator series at
- 36:17this point, so I didn't watch Dark Fate.
- 36:21But I'm now, based on what you're saying, I'm looking forward to watching it
- 36:25for the podcast for the first time.
- 36:27There you are. We'll get to that one next. Dun, dun, dun. Yep.
- 36:33All right. All right, guys. Thanks for giving us a shout. Give us a shout on
- 36:37Instagram, citizenframe underscore podcast, and of course, Facebook.
- 36:41And I guess we're on YouTube. Got a couple of comments on YouTube there.
- 36:44And I guess we're on, that's how bad I am at managing this. I didn't know it
- 36:47was on YouTube. But hey, thanks for the comments.
- 36:51So, you know, keep them coming. And then maybe I'll respond.
- 36:55Yeah. I don't see everything. You're not a Terminator? Or do I? You're not the T-3000?
- 37:00I'm the T-3000? Yeah. Oh, no, I'm Matthew Smith. Oh, sorry, Matt Smith. You're J.K. Simmons.
- 37:07Oh, fuck that. I get no Brian. That's fucking nuts. Jesus Christ.
- 37:12Not my fucking life. All right, guys, we're done.
- 37:16Music.
