- 0:00[SPEAKER_01]: Hey friend, welcome back to Bible Tract Echoes.
- 0:02[SPEAKER_01]: I'm Mike McCree, your host.
- 0:04[SPEAKER_01]: Thank you so very much for joining me today.
- 0:07[SPEAKER_01]: I'm gonna ask you to grab your Bibles, or barring that if you're driving right now, you're listening while your hands are busy.
- 0:15[SPEAKER_01]: I completely understand, you just tune your ears all right.
- 0:18[SPEAKER_01]: I'm gonna share with you a few verses from Psalm 78.
- 0:22[SPEAKER_01]: We're talking this week about the household of faith.
- 0:26[SPEAKER_01]: Yesterday, we spent some time looking at the scriptural mandate for legacy.
- 0:33[SPEAKER_01]: A scriptural command for us to take this concept of the household of faith, seriously.
- 0:40[SPEAKER_01]: I believe what we speak about today.
- 0:43[SPEAKER_01]: very well could be a help, could be a conviction even to those that are listing right now.
- 0:49[SPEAKER_01]: Maybe you have children in the home or maybe you have children that have since grown.
- 0:53[SPEAKER_01]: You can impact with your life, with your testimony, and though we have all, my girls are five and six, I've made mistakes.
- 1:01[SPEAKER_01]: We've all made mistakes and I have many more to make in the future.
- 1:05[SPEAKER_01]: I realize that, but it's likely that something that we talk about from the Bible today,
- 1:10[SPEAKER_01]: could be a help.
- 1:11[SPEAKER_01]: I hope it is.
- 1:12[SPEAKER_01]: Psalm 78, verse number one, the Bible says this, give year, oh my people, to my law, incline your ears to the words of my mouth.
- 1:23[SPEAKER_01]: I will open my mouth in a parable.
- 1:25[SPEAKER_01]: I will utter dark sayings of old, which we have heard and known in our fathers have told us, we will not hide them from their children, showing to the generation to come the praises of the Lord and His strength and His wonderful works that He have done.
- 1:43[SPEAKER_01]: for he established a testimony in Jacob and appointed a law in Israel, which he commanded our fathers that they should make them known to their children, that the generation to come might know them, even the children which should be born who should arise and declare them to their children.
- 2:03[SPEAKER_01]: that they might set their hope in God, and not forget the works of God, but keep His commandments.
- 2:11[SPEAKER_01]: Do you see there?
- 2:13[SPEAKER_01]: Do you hear the sweep of history?
- 2:16[SPEAKER_01]: And what is being said?
- 2:18[SPEAKER_01]: In almost one or two verses, the Psalmist talks all the way back to Jacob and Israel.
- 2:25[SPEAKER_01]: These covenants, these promises, these compacts that were made between God and men, but then continues on and says, which he God commanded our fathers, speaking of a previous generation, that they should make them known to there.
- 2:41[SPEAKER_01]: Children, maybe they were talking about it in the subsequent generation or maybe even our own, but that continues on, that the generation to come might know them.
- 2:51[SPEAKER_01]: Even the children which should be born, so we've looked into the deepness of the past, but now we're talking about a generation that hasn't even been born yet, that who should arise, the Bible says, and declare them to their children.
- 3:04[SPEAKER_01]: And then there's a reason for this.
- 3:06[SPEAKER_01]: There's a point to it all, that they might, these children, these subsequent generations that have not even been born yet, that they might set their hope in God.
- 3:20[SPEAKER_01]: and not forget the works of God, but keep His commandments.
- 3:25[SPEAKER_01]: As I mentioned yesterday, this is a bright shining spotlight, highlighted the incredible responsibility.
- 3:34[SPEAKER_01]: This is a way to responsibility each generation has to pass on the knowledge of God's deeds, his actions, what he does, and his character, not just
- 3:49[SPEAKER_01]: who, not just what he does, but who he is as well.
- 3:53[SPEAKER_01]: But I'd like to zoom in a little bit more.
- 3:55[SPEAKER_01]: We've looked at something of a scriptural mandate for the household of faith.
- 4:01[SPEAKER_01]: That's our theme this week.
- 4:03[SPEAKER_01]: But today I'd like to zoom in a little bit more and talk about the impact.
- 4:08[SPEAKER_01]: A household of faith can have and we're going to take as our example.
- 4:13[SPEAKER_01]: When it take force of application to your life in mind, a less than perfect household from scripture, you say, you're going to talk about your parents and they sound, they sound so perfect when you talk about Chris and Ruth McCurray.
- 4:25[SPEAKER_01]: Can I tell you, my parents were not perfect, and they would be the first to admit to that fact.
- 4:31[SPEAKER_01]: I just funny sometimes you know how this works.
- 4:33[SPEAKER_01]: We bring up things, my brothers and I, I have two younger brothers, Caleb and Ethan, and
- 4:38[SPEAKER_01]: In all seriousness, we had great fun as children were we perfect as brothers and no certainly not but we will bring up things whether areas of discipline or things we did wrong or things my parents might have done a little bit wrong and raising us and it's funny how the passage of time wipes away some of those things my mother to her credit
- 5:00[SPEAKER_01]: she sometimes can't remember, maybe airs she made, but she also can't remember airs that her children made either, so it's kind of a win-win situation, and so there's some of these things my mother has no memory problems whatsoever, as far as I know, except for in this area.
- 5:17[SPEAKER_01]: And, um, no, no, no, seriousness.
- 5:18[SPEAKER_01]: We,
- 5:19[SPEAKER_01]: Greatly enjoys them times a reminiscing.
- 5:21[SPEAKER_01]: Do you remember when this happened?
- 5:23[SPEAKER_01]: And you'd like no, I don't remember that.
- 5:24[SPEAKER_01]: Do you remember how you disciplined us?
- 5:26[SPEAKER_01]: And you were a little angry when you're not supposed to discipline an angry.
- 5:29[SPEAKER_01]: And you should know that didn't happen.
- 5:31[SPEAKER_01]: And we'll have fun with that.
- 5:32[SPEAKER_01]: But my parents know.
- 5:34[SPEAKER_01]: They weren't.
- 5:34[SPEAKER_01]: They aren't perfect.
- 5:37[SPEAKER_01]: But you know as well as I that families don't always look the same and no, I'm not talking about the wickedness that a world tries to impress upon us, both impress us with and impress upon us, whether it be through news, through media, this licentiousness, the
- 5:59[SPEAKER_01]: anti-biblical, they call it same-sex marriage, the Bible-cultons sawdemy, homosexuality, these things, I can tell you this, if my children, we'd try not to watch a whole lot of programs, TV and things like that, the old timers called it the theater.
- 6:16[SPEAKER_01]: We are family doesn't really go to the theater for multiple reasons, but one is cost a lot of money, but there's a whole lot of other reasons too, but if we're watching something in our home, in a show,
- 6:27[SPEAKER_01]: whether they're just trying to be quote unquote current or they're trying to push something AA and agenda.
- 6:34[SPEAKER_01]: If a show comes on with two dads or two moms, it gets shut off immediately.
- 6:43[SPEAKER_01]: And very rarely does it ever get to that point.
- 6:45[SPEAKER_01]: And one, as I mentioned, we try not to have our children watching a whole lot of that nonsense, the TV and what not just in general, but we also try to do a research beforehand.
- 6:55[SPEAKER_01]: And these days, thanks to the tool that the internet is, you can often tell.
- 6:59[SPEAKER_01]: And so we have a small list of approved things.
- 7:03[SPEAKER_01]: And you say, you guys are being too careful.
- 7:05[SPEAKER_01]: No friend, I don't want my children to think it's normal.
- 7:09[SPEAKER_01]: For something the Bible calls in abomination, to just be flitting across their consciousness and across their eye gate and infecting them with the thought that this is, you say, you're just trying to brainwash, no, no, I did not mean to go this direction.
- 7:22[SPEAKER_01]: The Lord must have it on my mind, if must have it, bubble to the service for some reason.
- 7:26[SPEAKER_01]: Friend, we must be very careful.
- 7:28[SPEAKER_01]: must be very careful of what we allow entrance into our home.
- 7:33[SPEAKER_01]: Especially, especially through something as powerful as media.
- 7:37[SPEAKER_01]: I am 31 years old.
- 7:39[SPEAKER_01]: I don't say that proudly in any sense whatsoever.
- 7:41[SPEAKER_01]: But I'd say that for two reasons, number one, I have some understanding of technology.
- 7:46[SPEAKER_01]: I know how this stuff works now.
- 7:47[SPEAKER_01]: Powerful.
- 7:48[SPEAKER_01]: It is.
- 7:48[SPEAKER_01]: But I also want you to know that there are some in my generation.
- 7:52[SPEAKER_01]: I guess we're called Millennials.
- 7:53[SPEAKER_01]: And I was almost, I think it was just a few years away from being what's in X1 Gen Z or something like that.
- 7:58[SPEAKER_01]: I was only a few years away from that actually.
- 8:00[SPEAKER_01]: I'm on the young end of Millennials from what I see.
- 8:04[SPEAKER_01]: But I want to let you know that there are some of this often blind, often denigrated generation of mine.
- 8:11[SPEAKER_01]: And I don't say that with any bitterness or bad taste in my mouth, we, my generation deserves a lot of the bad press we get.
- 8:18[SPEAKER_01]: But I'll tell you this, there are some, and I can name you friend after friend after friend that believe just as strongly if not more so than I do that are around my age.
- 8:28[SPEAKER_01]: There are some in my generation that still believe.
- 8:32[SPEAKER_01]: this way.
- 8:33[SPEAKER_01]: What this old black book in my lap says, we believe cover to cover.
- 8:40[SPEAKER_01]: So, friend, if you are, and let me say this to young parents, if you're letting your children let's say this to middle-age parents, if you're letting your teenagers watch all kinds of atrocities and anti-biblical agenda through their cell phone or through television, it cut it out.
- 8:56[SPEAKER_01]: heard a man say about parenting.
- 9:00[SPEAKER_01]: This was not the direction I meant to go.
- 9:02[SPEAKER_01]: We were planning to talk about Timothy and his upbringing.
- 9:05[SPEAKER_01]: Maybe we'll get to that tomorrow.
- 9:07[SPEAKER_01]: I was going to be in St. Timothy chapter one.
- 9:08[SPEAKER_01]: I guess that's where we'll start tomorrow.
- 9:11[SPEAKER_01]: Lord brought to mind.
- 9:13[SPEAKER_01]: A man raised many children, six children in the nurture of Admission of the Lord.
- 9:19[SPEAKER_01]: He has twenty some grand children, good man, pastor for some twenty-some of the years, and he talked about how he was a father.
- 9:26[SPEAKER_01]: An unsaved man back in the day, there was a sixties or seventies.
- 9:31[SPEAKER_01]: He talked about respect in the home and how he, when he married this man's mother, he said, I promised to have her to hold her to protect her till death do us part.
- 9:43[SPEAKER_01]: And I would not allow anyone.
- 9:46[SPEAKER_01]: I wouldn't allow anyone to disrespect her.
- 9:49[SPEAKER_01]: And I have most certainly, and not going to feed someone to do that.
- 9:54[SPEAKER_01]: What he was saying was, if my children, if his children, this man, this father of this man, I'm speaking about, if his children ever smartened off to their mother, there would be something to pay, that's for sure.
- 10:10[SPEAKER_01]: But then we allow, maybe we wouldn't accept that from our children, maybe you do, and you need to stop that, too.
- 10:17[SPEAKER_01]: but we allow a television to come in and blaspheme.
- 10:21[SPEAKER_01]: We allow a cell phone to come in, and as long as it's in the privacy of our earbuds, it's okay.
- 10:29[SPEAKER_01]: Bible talks about what sort of things are pure, what sort of things are pure?
- 10:34[SPEAKER_01]: That's a high bar to get across, especially what it says, think on these things.
- 10:41[SPEAKER_01]: It's almost like it's saying if they're impure, they're impure, if they're not just if they're not true, we shouldn't think on these things.
- 10:50[SPEAKER_01]: Again, I did not mean to get a little riled up.
- 10:54[SPEAKER_01]: I would ask you though.
- 10:56[SPEAKER_01]: What are you doing in your household of faith?
- 11:00[SPEAKER_01]: Maybe you need to parent yourself, you say I'm a single person, young or old, maybe my parents have gone on, maybe I don't have any children left in the home or at all, maybe you need to parent yourself in your household of faith today.
- 11:16[SPEAKER_01]: Maybe you'd be very careful about what you will allow in through your ear gates, through
- 11:24[SPEAKER_01]: where I was going with that was, we did not have a perfect upbringing by any stretch of imagination.
- 11:31[SPEAKER_01]: But tomorrow, I want to look at the impact of our legacy.
- 11:36[SPEAKER_01]: I won't look at Timothy's upbringing.
- 11:39[SPEAKER_01]: You realize he did not have the perfect childhood.
- 11:45[SPEAKER_01]: And yet he was mightly used of God.
- 11:49[SPEAKER_01]: A copeless of, he was a co-laborer with the Apostle Paul.
- 11:56[SPEAKER_01]: And God did marvelous things through him and with him.
- 12:00[SPEAKER_01]: Because of his broken yes, his imperfect yes, his difficult yes, his household of faith.
- 12:12[SPEAKER_01]: Yes, my desire is to take away your excuses.
- 12:15[SPEAKER_01]: You say I'm a single mother?
- 12:17[SPEAKER_01]: Well, we're gonna look at Timothy's home tomorrow.
