- 0:05Speaker 1: NFL Now is a production of the NFL in partnership
- 0:08Speaker 1: with iHeartRadio. Young side arms up to the end zone.
- 0:13Speaker 1: Touchdown Alabama. TOUTO checkout. He's gonna head to districts himself
- 0:23Speaker 1: and try to touchdown. Bryce Young looking for the ends
- 0:27Speaker 1: us again down touchdown thrown on the middle, touchdown Alabama.
- 0:32Speaker 1: To burden any questions about the arm not on that one.
- 0:43Speaker 1: You are looking reasonably live at the Arizona Cardinals on
- 0:49Speaker 1: the football field. That's right. The off season program is
- 0:52Speaker 1: beginning today for a couple of teams with new head coaches.
- 0:56Speaker 1: Jonathan Gannon there in Arizona. In Houston, it's Demiko Ryan's
- 1:01Speaker 1: and they too are back in the building. That is
- 1:05Speaker 1: the smiling face of one Mike Boone checking up both
- 1:09Speaker 1: of those teams today. It's beginning to feel a lot
- 1:12Speaker 1: like a new season. It is certainly a new show.
- 1:16Speaker 1: Welcome to NFL Now, presented to you by Ikea from
- 1:19Speaker 1: her newsroom in Los Angeles. My name is Andrew Ceciliano.
- 1:23Speaker 1: Coming up in a little bit. One of my favorite
- 1:25Speaker 1: running backs in the draft. J Spears from Tulane, the
- 1:28Speaker 1: man who dominated the Cotton Bowl, will be here live
- 1:32Speaker 1: on our show. Let's get however, to the draft sixteen
- 1:36Speaker 1: days away. It's that time of the year where the
- 1:40Speaker 1: coaches get on the podium and do the whole press
- 1:42Speaker 1: conference thing and try to not tell you who they're
- 1:45Speaker 1: going to take. Like we think the Texans are going
- 1:48Speaker 1: quarterback at second overall, Right, that leaves them with either
- 1:51Speaker 1: Bryce Young or CJ. Stroud, we think, right. Demko Ryan's
- 1:57Speaker 1: wasn't saying much today having a number two pick. Is
- 2:03Speaker 1: it's excited for us to have the number two pick,
- 2:05Speaker 1: but it's also at the same time, there's no pressure
- 2:08Speaker 1: where a young man is picked. I think it is
- 2:11Speaker 1: unfair to ask a guy just because you're picked number
- 2:14Speaker 1: two overall you have to come in and you're the
- 2:17Speaker 1: face of our franchise and you're the leader. That's unfair
- 2:20Speaker 1: to the guy, right, And I'm not gonna put that
- 2:22Speaker 1: type of weight on the shoulders of whoever that is
- 2:25Speaker 1: that we pick. We have leaders in our locker room already,
- 2:28Speaker 1: so I'm not asking the guy to come in and
- 2:31Speaker 1: be this savior for our team, asking guy to come
- 2:34Speaker 1: in and just put his head down and just work.
- 2:37Speaker 1: Damiko Ryans on the podium early today as they begin
- 2:40Speaker 1: their offseason program. They're no real football obviously on the
- 2:43Speaker 1: field in Houston. Tom Pellicero, hello, our insider today, So
- 2:48Speaker 1: DMIKO wouldn't say what they're taking shockingly, granted they don't
- 2:51Speaker 1: know who's going to be there. It could be a quarterback.
- 2:54Speaker 1: Let's talk about the number one would be in many
- 2:57Speaker 1: people's eyes quarterbacks Bryce Young, because he is down the
- 3:01Speaker 1: home stretch here, Tom, it seems on his in person visits.
- 3:07Speaker 1: That's all right, Andrew. Bryce Young is visiting the Carolina
- 3:10Speaker 1: Panthers today. They have of course traded up to the
- 3:12Speaker 1: number one overall pick, and there'll be a lot of
- 3:14Speaker 1: people within the NFL who at this point would be
- 3:16Speaker 1: surprised if Young does not go to Carolina at number
- 3:19Speaker 1: one overall. However, after this visit, I am told Young
- 3:24Speaker 1: is headed to Houston later this week for a visit
- 3:27Speaker 1: with the Texans as well. So in a matter of
- 3:30Speaker 1: days here, both the teams holding the number one and
- 3:33Speaker 1: number two picks are going to get an up close
- 3:35Speaker 1: and personal look at Bryce Young. Meanwhile, there are several
- 3:39Speaker 1: other top quarterback prospects in this draft. One of them
- 3:42Speaker 1: Kentucky's Will Levis, on a visit today with the Titans tonight.
- 3:47Speaker 1: I am told that he is flying to Tampa for
- 3:49Speaker 1: a visit with the Bucks. Now, unlike Bryce Young, is
- 3:52Speaker 1: a little bit more uncertainty about exactly when Will Levis goes.
- 3:56Speaker 1: Tennessee has the number eleven pick, Tampa has the number
- 3:59Speaker 1: nineteen pick. Somewhere in there could potentially be a landing
- 4:03Speaker 1: spot for Will Levis. Interesting, Rett Lewis is going to
- 4:06Speaker 1: join us a little bit later. He has his one
- 4:09Speaker 1: and only mock draft out. He has Levis going eleven
- 4:13Speaker 1: to the Tennessee Titans. All right, let's get to Cliff Kingsbury. Tom.
- 4:16Speaker 1: This one's fascinating. Cliff Kingsbury had spoken in the past
- 4:19Speaker 1: before he took the Cardinals job some years ago about
- 4:22Speaker 1: working at USC. But when you put together Cliff Kingsbury
- 4:28Speaker 1: and the possible number one pick in next year's draft,
- 4:33Speaker 1: I can see what he's thinking. Lander. This is a
- 4:38Speaker 1: fascinating move for Cliff Kingsbury, who did spend about a
- 4:42Speaker 1: month on paper as USC's offensive coordinator back in twenty
- 4:46Speaker 1: eighteen before he ended up getting the Arizona Cardinals head
- 4:49Speaker 1: coaching job. Well, Arizona fired Kingsbury, of course, back in January.
- 4:54Speaker 1: Kingsbury disappeared to Thailand for a while, did interview for
- 4:57Speaker 1: some NFL jobs, But now I am told he is
- 5:00Speaker 1: expected to land a usc along with Lincoln Riley, where
- 5:04Speaker 1: King Murray will do work with the Trojans quarterbacks. That
- 5:08Speaker 1: is significant for variety of reasons. One of them is
- 5:10Speaker 1: the fact that Kingsbury, who of course was in charge
- 5:13Speaker 1: in Arizona when they took Tyler Murray number one overall,
- 5:16Speaker 1: potentially could be working with next year's number one overall pick,
- 5:20Speaker 1: the Rainy Heisman Trophy winner, Caleb Williams. Now, certainly people
- 5:24Speaker 1: have different opinions about Cliff Kingsbury based on how things
- 5:27Speaker 1: ended in Arizona. Here's what he knows. Look at Cliff
- 5:30Speaker 1: Kingsbury's track record with quarterbacks at the college level. He
- 5:34Speaker 1: was working with Case Keenum when Keenam broke like every
- 5:37Speaker 1: NC double a passing record. He had Baker Mayfield at
- 5:40Speaker 1: Texas Tech for a while, he had Patrick Mahomes at
- 5:43Speaker 1: Texas Tech. He spent time with a variety of other
- 5:46Speaker 1: top quarterbacks through his time at the college level. Now
- 5:49Speaker 1: he takes over with a very talented passer, Caleb Williams,
- 5:52Speaker 1: who again potentially could be in that mix. For the
- 5:54Speaker 1: number one overall pick. Who knows what that means for
- 5:56Speaker 1: Kingsbury in the big picture of his career. Certainly, though,
- 5:59Speaker 1: you would think on a talented USC team with a
- 6:02Speaker 1: chance to be very good in twenty twenty three, if
- 6:04Speaker 1: they four well, and so does Caleb Williams, that can
- 6:07Speaker 1: open up all sorts of opportunities for where Kingsbury's next
- 6:10Speaker 1: big stop potentially could be. Exactly thinking ahead here going
- 6:13Speaker 1: back to the team for which he was once offensive
- 6:15Speaker 1: coordinator but never actually called a play as it was
- 6:19Speaker 1: in the off season. And to your point about Case Kingdom,
- 6:22Speaker 1: He's still, twelve years after leaving college football, is still
- 6:25Speaker 1: the nc double a's all time leading passer. Strange but true.
- 6:30Speaker 1: Last year, Caleb Williams through eight touchdowns to Jordan Addison.
- 6:34Speaker 1: He could hear his name called in sixteen days. Tom,
- 6:36Speaker 1: tell me about his visits. Jordan Addison is a busy
- 6:41Speaker 1: man right now, Andrew, as our ian rapport decided to
- 6:44Speaker 1: tweet on his off day today, Addison is visiting the
- 6:48Speaker 1: Vikings right now. After that, he is going to go
- 6:50Speaker 1: on to visit the Giants and the Bills, all teams
- 6:53Speaker 1: that you would think are logical potential fits to take
- 6:56Speaker 1: a wide receiver in round one. He's currently number thirteen
- 7:00Speaker 1: prospect on Daniel Jeremiah's top fifty list. That could be
- 7:05Speaker 1: more in that area than a team like the Vikings,
- 7:07Speaker 1: who currently are drafted at number twenty three, might have
- 7:10Speaker 1: a shot to take him. Another wide receiver visit News.
- 7:13Speaker 1: Zay Flowers has been all over the country here in
- 7:16Speaker 1: recent weeks. Posted a workout video this morning. Well, the
- 7:19Speaker 1: next couple of days, Flowers is going to be working
- 7:21Speaker 1: out in hotel gyms because he's got a visit tomorrow
- 7:24Speaker 1: with the Giants. Then he's gonna fly to Buffalo tomorrow
- 7:27Speaker 1: night for dinner with the Bills, followed by a visit
- 7:31Speaker 1: on Thursday in Buffalo. Flowers as somebody we've talked a
- 7:34Speaker 1: lot about. His name has been kicked around quite a
- 7:37Speaker 1: bit here as potentially even the number one wide receiver
- 7:40Speaker 1: off the board, So that is going to be one
- 7:42Speaker 1: to keep an eye on. Meanwhile, another top receiver, Jalen
- 7:45Speaker 1: Hyatt out of Tennessee, set to visit the Giants tomorrow
- 7:50Speaker 1: as well. Andrew, I thought you're gonna do the like
- 7:52Speaker 1: Jalen Hyatt, hod, I'm sorry, Zay Flowers Hotel Jim's Jalen
- 7:56Speaker 1: Hyatt transition there. I saw that building. I thought this
- 8:00Speaker 1: didn't do it though, Okay, we're sponsored by Marriott, so
- 8:03Speaker 1: I let it slid. Sure. Show today is sponsored by Ikia. However,
- 8:07Speaker 1: for the record, trying to avoid it and then stepped
- 8:13Speaker 1: right in it. Jeff Akuda has been traded, which you know,
- 8:18Speaker 1: most people say, big deal, but this is a guy
- 8:21Speaker 1: who three years ago, Tom was the third overall pick.
- 8:27Speaker 1: That's right, and much like Ikea, a bargain for the
- 8:30Speaker 1: Atlanta Falcons if they can get the most out of
- 8:33Speaker 1: Jeff Okuda as he heads to the Falcons, Detroit sending
- 8:37Speaker 1: him to Atlanta for a fifth round pick in this
- 8:41Speaker 1: year's NFL draft. What this means for the Lions they
- 8:44Speaker 1: clear about five million dollars in cash and cap space
- 8:47Speaker 1: that was fully guaranteed Onokuda's final year of his original
- 8:51Speaker 1: rookie contract. Does have a fift year option in twenty
- 8:54Speaker 1: twenty four. Hard to imagine the Falcons are going to
- 8:56Speaker 1: pick that up. We'll see exactly how they approach it,
- 8:59Speaker 1: but it's a bylow possibility here on a player who
- 9:02Speaker 1: is talented enough that he went number three over all
- 9:05Speaker 1: back in twenty twenty, Okuda coming off of his most
- 9:08Speaker 1: productive year. You certainly could say with fifteen starts in Detroit,
- 9:11Speaker 1: it had some injuries the previous couple of years. Here,
- 9:14Speaker 1: we'll see what they're able to get out of him.
- 9:16Speaker 1: Certainly though, for Okuda, if that fifth year ends option
- 9:19Speaker 1: ends up getting declined, he's got a fresh start right
- 9:22Speaker 1: now in Atlanta Andre and a chance to earn himself
- 9:25Speaker 1: a lot of money with free agency looming next March,
- 9:28Speaker 1: with the Falcons adding a lot of defensive talent here
- 9:30Speaker 1: Okuda last week Klais Campbell, and that fifth year option
- 9:33Speaker 1: deadline is right after the draft, so the Falcons have
- 9:36Speaker 1: to figure it out quickly. Tom, stay right there. Let's
- 9:38Speaker 1: get to Denver because the Broncos, much like the Texans,
- 9:41Speaker 1: much like the Cardinals, are back in the building today
- 9:44Speaker 1: because they have a brand new head coach. First time.
- 9:47Speaker 1: We get Sean Payton with his new team and with
- 9:52Speaker 1: Courtland Sutton and Jerry Judy, who he made clear last
- 9:56Speaker 1: month aren't going anywhere. We're not trading those two players now.
- 10:01Speaker 1: When people call and the phone rings like it does
- 10:04Speaker 1: this time of the year, George Peyton's job is to
- 10:07Speaker 1: pick it up and say, hey, yeah, I'll tell you
- 10:10Speaker 1: what we're not. And so, yeah, we received calls. You bet,
- 10:16Speaker 1: those are two good football players. But we're in the
- 10:19Speaker 1: business of gathering talent right now. And why do people
- 10:24Speaker 1: call because they know we're void of draft picks and
- 10:28Speaker 1: that we might because there were some discussions a year ago,
- 10:30Speaker 1: I think regarding Courtland. But we like our the current
- 10:36Speaker 1: group that we're working with, all right. That Sean Payton
- 10:40Speaker 1: again a couple of weeks ago at the annual meeting.
- 10:42Speaker 1: They don't have a lot of picks because a lot
- 10:43Speaker 1: of those picks are in Seattle. They don't pick until
- 10:45Speaker 1: sixty seventh overall, but hey, they also pick sixty eight
- 10:51Speaker 1: back to back picks there and the third round. The
- 10:53Speaker 1: talent about which John Peyton was talking as symbols for
- 10:58Speaker 1: the first time today with their new head coach, we
- 11:00Speaker 1: have Tom We have James Palmer here with us as well. James,
- 11:03Speaker 1: you are in Denver, you are in building. The message
- 11:06Speaker 1: today from Sean Payton is that we're going to close
- 11:11Speaker 1: the chapter on last year Andrew. He believes that these
- 11:14Speaker 1: players obviously have taken it from every single angle, physically
- 11:17Speaker 1: and mentally and through the media. And everything that went
- 11:21Speaker 1: wrong last year. He wants to close that chapter and
- 11:24Speaker 1: he wants to move forward, telling them now is the
- 11:27Speaker 1: time that they're going to roll up their sleeves and
- 11:28Speaker 1: they're going to get to work, and he mentioned that
- 11:30Speaker 1: it's going to be difficult. It starts today with their conditioning.
- 11:34Speaker 1: I've seen them go into the weight room earlier this morning.
- 11:36Speaker 1: And obviously they're going to have these meetings with Sean
- 11:39Speaker 1: Payton and his new coaching staff. But he wants to
- 11:41Speaker 1: focus on is those first two and it's the conditioning
- 11:44Speaker 1: and it's the way training because he believes these players
- 11:46Speaker 1: just weren't pushed enough last year in the offseason and
- 11:49Speaker 1: that led to a lot of the injury issues that
- 11:51Speaker 1: this team had throughout all of last year when the
- 11:53Speaker 1: most injury playing to teams in the entire NFL. He
- 11:56Speaker 1: has put his resources in and brought his people in.
- 11:59Speaker 1: The ownership group led by Greg Penner has put a
- 12:01Speaker 1: lot of resources and a lot behind changing in this
- 12:05Speaker 1: offseason as well, and he wants this phase one to
- 12:08Speaker 1: go much longer than the three weeks that it is
- 12:10Speaker 1: in the NFL. They haven't added mini camp on April
- 12:13Speaker 1: twenty fourth to the twenty seventh. That's going to be
- 12:15Speaker 1: more to Phase one is would be more conditioning, more
- 12:17Speaker 1: weight training. That is his number one focus. That this
- 12:19Speaker 1: team was not physical enough, Tom, it was not competitive
- 12:22Speaker 1: enough during the preseason in his eyes, no nine on seven,
- 12:25Speaker 1: no one on one drills, everybody's going to play in
- 12:27Speaker 1: the preseason. We're going to see more competitiveness from this
- 12:30Speaker 1: entire group. And that kind of all started today. Of course,
- 12:35Speaker 1: James is gonna be a ton of focus on Russell
- 12:37Speaker 1: Wilson exactly what direction things go for him after certainly
- 12:40Speaker 1: a subpar year for the Broncos in his first season
- 12:44Speaker 1: in Denver. I asked Sean Payton in that sit down
- 12:46Speaker 1: interview I did with him last month in Phoenix about Russ,
- 12:51Speaker 1: and basically I framed the question as the narrative out
- 12:53Speaker 1: there seems to be the Russ is done, that he's
- 12:55Speaker 1: not going to play at a high level anymore. And
- 12:57Speaker 1: Peyton said, well, respectfully, I'd say that's not the narrative.
- 13:00Speaker 1: The narrative is what happened last year. That's really the
- 13:03Speaker 1: focus here is just try to figure out all the
- 13:06Speaker 1: various factors that went into Russell Wilson not playing like
- 13:09Speaker 1: Russell Wilson in twenty twenty two, and as Peyton said,
- 13:11Speaker 1: there's a lot of hands that are dirty in that
- 13:13Speaker 1: it's not all about one person, and it's not all
- 13:15Speaker 1: about necessarily Russell Wilson. Having said that, there were a
- 13:19Speaker 1: variety of issues last year for Russell Wilson in Denver,
- 13:22Speaker 1: his weight was one of them, especially throughout the course
- 13:25Speaker 1: of the off season. Even some of his social media
- 13:27Speaker 1: posts became an issue through the course of a very
- 13:30Speaker 1: disappointing season as a whole for the Broncos team. As Peyton,
- 13:34Speaker 1: have you given him any guidelines but what you want
- 13:36Speaker 1: him to look like and act like coming into a
- 13:38Speaker 1: new program in Denver? He said, there's no guidelines here,
- 13:41Speaker 1: but certainly this is something that there's a standard for
- 13:44Speaker 1: all players that are going to be in this operation.
- 13:46Speaker 1: Russell Wilson is certainly one of those. He's going to
- 13:49Speaker 1: be held to a certain standard and it is going
- 13:51Speaker 1: to be fascinating to see both on and off the field.
- 13:54Speaker 1: How Sean Payton tries to get Russell Wilson back on track, Yeah, James,
- 13:57Speaker 1: how do they help him? Because so much has been
- 14:00Speaker 1: made about it's going to be different. Let's get rid
- 14:02Speaker 1: of the office. By the way, that office that Russell
- 14:04Speaker 1: hide upstairs allegedly always had NFL network on, according to
- 14:06Speaker 1: one article. So Russell, if you're watching high, I hope
- 14:09Speaker 1: you're enjoying day one of school. How do James they
- 14:13Speaker 1: kind of get him back? Yeah, And I know Tom
- 14:17Speaker 1: asks Sean Payton this and everyone has and he hasn't
- 14:20Speaker 1: really alluded to it much about what he thinks he
- 14:22Speaker 1: can do with Sean Payton. But you saw that full
- 14:25Speaker 1: screen graphic next to Tom there about some of the
- 14:27Speaker 1: players that have been added. I think the first part
- 14:30Speaker 1: Sean Payton has accomplished because guys like Mike McGlinchey and
- 14:33Speaker 1: Somaji pre Ryan, he has convinced them about what he
- 14:36Speaker 1: envisions this offense to be. He had to do that
- 14:38Speaker 1: when he met with both of them and others that
- 14:40Speaker 1: they brought in the free agency, and he convinced them
- 14:43Speaker 1: about what he envisions to happen with this entire offense.
- 14:45Speaker 1: You look at McGlinchey, look at Ben Power. As you
- 14:48Speaker 1: look at them, Chris Manhurst comes in a fullback, and
- 14:50Speaker 1: I mentioned p Ryan at two hundred and forty pounds
- 14:52Speaker 1: as a running back. He's bringing in a physical group
- 14:55Speaker 1: around Russell Wilson, and it looks to be that they
- 14:57Speaker 1: want this to be a physical offense that has a
- 15:00Speaker 1: two back system. That's something that p Ryan was definitely
- 15:03Speaker 1: sold on because his role was bacted to increase in Cincinnati.
- 15:06Speaker 1: They wanted to increase it because of the way he's
- 15:08Speaker 1: caught the football, the way he's run the football. There's
- 15:10Speaker 1: really never negative plays when Peter Ryan carries it. My
- 15:13Speaker 1: point of this, Andrew is it just looks like Sean
- 15:16Speaker 1: Payton has brought a lot of physicality around Russell Wilson.
- 15:18Speaker 1: That's our first indication about what we have seen from
- 15:21Speaker 1: this offense. He hasn't tom really said anything else to
- 15:24Speaker 1: anybody about what he envisions he's specifically doing with Russ. Well,
- 15:27Speaker 1: we'll find out today day number one. Although it's not
- 15:31Speaker 1: real football here, just working out day one through off
- 15:35Speaker 1: season workouts, what it's still fun. Of course, it's fun.
- 15:41Speaker 1: Of course that's fun. I'm just saying that you're only
- 15:43Speaker 1: gleam selling, Andrew. You're trying to get the party pooper.
- 15:49Speaker 1: They're back in the building, come on coming up next.
- 15:53Speaker 1: We're back in the NFC South because that guy has
- 15:55Speaker 1: left the building. We hit the roster reset button on
- 16:01Speaker 1: that division. You're watching NFL now on that one. So
- 16:10Speaker 1: as we sit here in April eleven, we are fairly
- 16:12Speaker 1: certain that Tom Brady is definitely not coming back. Right,
- 16:16Speaker 1: fairly certain and definitely any does make sense together? Right? Sure? Well,
- 16:22Speaker 1: now the Bucks move on and Todd Bowles has to
- 16:25Speaker 1: go find the next man up. When you replace a
- 16:30Speaker 1: player of that magnitude, first of all, you don't replace them.
- 16:33Speaker 1: You know, you lose aura, you lose the expectation of
- 16:38Speaker 1: being great. That doesn't mean you can't be great, you know,
- 16:40Speaker 1: you just have to do it more as a team.
- 16:42Speaker 1: You know, we did it as a team when he
- 16:44Speaker 1: was there, but you know, he was such a great
- 16:47Speaker 1: player and a great person that you focus all on that.
- 16:50Speaker 1: And now that that is gone, you know, the perception
- 16:53Speaker 1: is that everything else is gone, and really it isn't.
- 16:56Speaker 1: We have a lot of good players on our team
- 16:58Speaker 1: on both sides of the ball. We have some pieces
- 17:00Speaker 1: to fill in, but we have a lot of good
- 17:02Speaker 1: football players on our team. But do they have a quarterback?
- 17:06Speaker 1: Let's hit the roster reset button on the NFC North
- 17:10Speaker 1: one Big Control Alt de Lead or the South that
- 17:13Speaker 1: beg your pardon the south. Andrew, let's control al de
- 17:16Speaker 1: lead on me use the second take and if Cam
- 17:20Speaker 1: Wolf and Jeff Chidia with me, gentlemen, Helodia both, let's
- 17:23Speaker 1: go through the quarterback options here as they sit picking
- 17:26Speaker 1: nineteenth overall, Cam, what do you say? Yeah, Andrew? The
- 17:30Speaker 1: big question for Tampa is how do you move on
- 17:33Speaker 1: beyond Tom Brady in twenty twenty three, And as it
- 17:36Speaker 1: currently stands, they have an open competition between Baker Mayfield
- 17:40Speaker 1: and their twenty twenty one second round pick Kyle Trash.
- 17:44Speaker 1: They believe that, you know, you put the pieces together,
- 17:47Speaker 1: you want to see more from Trask. He hasn't got
- 17:49Speaker 1: the opportunity on the field, but obviously that's not something
- 17:52Speaker 1: that excites a lot of Bucks fans, which is why
- 17:54Speaker 1: I found it interesting today when Tom Pellicero reported that
- 17:58Speaker 1: tomorrow Will Levis, the Kentucky quarterback, is coming in to
- 18:01Speaker 1: visit Tampa, and they also are scheduled to have Tennessee
- 18:04Speaker 1: quarterback Hitting hook fit It this week as well, and
- 18:06Speaker 1: so they're clearly doing their homework on this quarterback class.
- 18:09Speaker 1: They have a lot of needs here in Tampa, but
- 18:12Speaker 1: they clearly haven't rolled out taking a quarterback. I haven't
- 18:15Speaker 1: heard a lot of buzz that they're gonna trade up
- 18:17Speaker 1: high in the draft for a quarterback. But if the
- 18:19Speaker 1: right guy falls into their lap, maybe it's Levis, maybe
- 18:22Speaker 1: it's Looker. Could they take a quarterback and change that
- 18:25Speaker 1: sort of trajectory of the team. What's been interesting about
- 18:28Speaker 1: Tampa is they've been really focused on reloading and not
- 18:31Speaker 1: necessarily rebuilding. They resigned Lavante Davis, they resigned Jamal Dean.
- 18:37Speaker 1: They didn't trade Mike Evans and Chris Godwin to write
- 18:39Speaker 1: a lot of speculation, and so if they move on
- 18:42Speaker 1: beyond the quarterback area, there's a lot of potential areas
- 18:46Speaker 1: they can go in this draft. They could go running
- 18:47Speaker 1: back to fish the worst rushing team in the league
- 18:50Speaker 1: last year. They go offensive tackle to get a new
- 18:52Speaker 1: left tackle, or they can go edge rushers. They brought
- 18:55Speaker 1: Iowa's Lucas van Nessen this week and done a lot
- 18:57Speaker 1: of work at that position. Jeff, Yeah. Can you know
- 19:01Speaker 1: people do kind of forget that there is talent on
- 19:03Speaker 1: this team. As top bowler looted too, and you talk
- 19:05Speaker 1: about some of those players they have coming back. This
- 19:07Speaker 1: is not a team that is in dire straits, but
- 19:09Speaker 1: they're in a very tricky position when it comes to
- 19:12Speaker 1: finding that quarterback of the future with that nineteenth pick,
- 19:15Speaker 1: you don't know who's going to be there. I would
- 19:17Speaker 1: love to see them fortify that offensive line. We know
- 19:19Speaker 1: about the problems that they had with injuries last year.
- 19:22Speaker 1: I'll talk about moving right tackle Tristan Worth to the
- 19:25Speaker 1: left side. You replaced Donovan Smith, which is a move
- 19:27Speaker 1: I like because again you mentioned that rushing attack. They
- 19:30Speaker 1: got to be able to run the football better thirty
- 19:32Speaker 1: second in the league last year. If they get that
- 19:34Speaker 1: run game going, it can make out things a lot
- 19:36Speaker 1: easier for that supporting cast around Baker Mayfield and a
- 19:39Speaker 1: defense that was top ten in points allowed. Baker Mayfield's
- 19:43Speaker 1: best season twenty twenty in Cleveland, the play action game
- 19:46Speaker 1: was working, and working well ended up with them winning
- 19:50Speaker 1: a playoff game. Right, those are the Bucks. Let's do
- 19:53Speaker 1: this thing here. For the Carolina Panthers as well, they
- 19:55Speaker 1: had been busy. Not just a new coach and Frank
- 19:58Speaker 1: Brych and an entirely new staff a new defense here,
- 20:00Speaker 1: but they bring in all this talent. The left of
- 20:03Speaker 1: the screen. Andy Dalton is basically going to be the
- 20:07Speaker 1: veteran quarterback Bridge, if you will whole getting the next
- 20:11Speaker 1: guy ready Campbell, the next guy who we assume they
- 20:15Speaker 1: will take with the first overall pick. Tom reported earlier.
- 20:18Speaker 1: Bryce Young is there today? Where are they overall in
- 20:22Speaker 1: their quarterback research? Yeah, Andrew, they have not made a
- 20:26Speaker 1: final decision yet on who they would take at the
- 20:29Speaker 1: number one pick. They won't do that, and so they
- 20:31Speaker 1: finished their evaluation which will conclude next week with c. J.
- 20:34Speaker 1: Stroud and Will Levis coming in for a visit. But
- 20:37Speaker 1: from talking with people in that Carolina Pether's building, I
- 20:41Speaker 1: would handicap Bryce Young as the favorite at this point.
- 20:44Speaker 1: Like I said, it's just this point, still plenty of
- 20:46Speaker 1: time going forward. But Bryce Young's very important day for
- 20:50Speaker 1: him inside that building, meeting with those people inside the
- 20:54Speaker 1: building and really in control of this draft decision. And
- 20:57Speaker 1: what's been interesting about the Carolina Panthers process is they
- 21:00Speaker 1: have been very much inclusive of everyone throughout the decision,
- 21:04Speaker 1: whether it be the GM Scott Fitterer, whether it be
- 21:07Speaker 1: the head coach Frank Wright, the offensive coiner Thomas Brown.
- 21:09Speaker 1: They've had eight nine people who've had opinions in this decision.
- 21:13Speaker 1: So they want to come to a conclusion and they
- 21:15Speaker 1: also have the owner involved in there. But one thing
- 21:18Speaker 1: that Carolina does feel, whether it's Bryce, whether it's CJ,
- 21:21Speaker 1: whoever it is, they have a team built for a quarterback,
- 21:24Speaker 1: a rookie quarterback to come in and have early successing
- 21:27Speaker 1: year one and potentially win a wide open NFC South.
- 21:31Speaker 1: From the jump, that's exactly right. I came. I love
- 21:34Speaker 1: what they've done in the offseason, bringing guys like Miles
- 21:37Speaker 1: Sanders and Adam Feelin Hayden Hurst. The defense is ready made,
- 21:41Speaker 1: I know general matter of Scott Fitter or things, very
- 21:44Speaker 1: highly of that group. Loves the youth and the talent there.
- 21:46Speaker 1: With von Bell coming in to fortify the safety position,
- 21:50Speaker 1: I'd love to go see them, you know, after the
- 21:53Speaker 1: quarterback situation, find another receiver in the draft to help there,
- 21:56Speaker 1: because Adam Feeling is long in the tooth. DJ Chark
- 21:59Speaker 1: is a speedy threat who knows Dude Staley from the
- 22:03Speaker 1: days together in Detroit. But again, one more receiver there
- 22:06Speaker 1: who can be a young guy who can grow with
- 22:08Speaker 1: either a CJ. Strout or Bryce Shawn would be a
- 22:10Speaker 1: great thing for this team to get in the second
- 22:13Speaker 1: or third round. But quarterback, obviously is the whole story
- 22:15Speaker 1: here with this, with this team. The whole story is
- 22:17Speaker 1: we sit here sixteen days away from the Carolina Panthers
- 22:21Speaker 1: officially being on the clock and handing in that card
- 22:24Speaker 1: in Kansas City, Jeff Kitty camp Wolf gentleman, Wait, thank you,
- 22:28Speaker 1: I'm already forgetting the dable for Jimmy na Fry taking
- 22:34Speaker 1: a shot and example to kill a strike, it'll be
- 22:39Speaker 1: Robinson to the second level and beyond touchdown. That's b
- 22:44Speaker 1: Sean Robinson under immediate brought you off the hitch and
- 22:47Speaker 1: not escaped. Will Anderson home, Oh my gosh, Strout fires man,
- 22:51Speaker 1: it is grabbed and he ends up. CJ. Strout Wow
- 22:54Speaker 1: with a grow. You get a mock draft, and you
- 22:59Speaker 1: get a mock draft. And wait, and Ritt gets a
- 23:01Speaker 1: mock draft. No, we're kidding, it says, mock draft one point.
- 23:05Speaker 1: But Rhet did this last year. This is just one point,
- 23:08Speaker 1: oh this year. And he has Bryce Young going one
- 23:11Speaker 1: and c J. Stroud going to and then the fun
- 23:14Speaker 1: begins with Anthony Richardson at number four. The fun begins
- 23:17Speaker 1: actually right now, yeah, because the host of nearly every
- 23:21Speaker 1: show on this network is here right now. He is
- 23:24Speaker 1: NFL network. He's the host to night of mock draft. Well,
- 23:26Speaker 1: I have the host of path to the draft, Rhet Lewis.
- 23:28Speaker 1: It's good to have. Yet, what's Upuddy? And for the
- 23:30Speaker 1: record for accuracy, think that is one dot final. This
- 23:35Speaker 1: is the one and only. This is your final answer.
- 23:38Speaker 1: If I were regis right now well correct And some
- 23:40Speaker 1: people need more than one mock draft to get the
- 23:43Speaker 1: answers correct. In this case, we just wanted to line
- 23:46Speaker 1: them all up now here sixteen days before them. You
- 23:48Speaker 1: don't need a second swing. Bryce Young is guaranteed to
- 23:50Speaker 1: be number one overall or your money back, okay, And
- 23:54Speaker 1: at number four it's going to be Anthony Richardson. And
- 23:57Speaker 1: just for the record, you said no trades. Yea. So
- 24:00Speaker 1: here's the ground rule. So you say the Colts stay
- 24:02Speaker 1: firm and take Anthony richards Yeah, if that's where they're going,
- 24:06Speaker 1: and if that's what they want to do at quarterback,
- 24:08Speaker 1: and you're deciding between Will Levis and Anthony Richardson, it
- 24:11Speaker 1: just seems to me that Richardson has the ceiling that
- 24:14Speaker 1: is a little bit higher than Will Levis, and if
- 24:17Speaker 1: they have similar floors, and why not take the player
- 24:20Speaker 1: with the higher ceiling. But to me, the biggest piece
- 24:23Speaker 1: of this pick is the plan that Chain Styken and
- 24:26Speaker 1: Chris Ballard put into place to develop and allow Anthony
- 24:30Speaker 1: Richardson to develop. I kind of like it is, let's
- 24:32Speaker 1: keep three quarterbacks active. Let's make Anthony Richardson quarterback three, right,
- 24:37Speaker 1: because if he's not ready to be the starter, and
- 24:39Speaker 1: he's not ready to be one play away, so you
- 24:41Speaker 1: keep a solid starter and Gardner Minshew, you keep a backup,
- 24:44Speaker 1: and so even if Minshew goes down, you have that
- 24:48Speaker 1: second quarterback, the backup that assumes that role, and you
- 24:50Speaker 1: allow Anthony Richardson to remain in a place where he
- 24:53Speaker 1: could still come in and give you a few plays
- 24:55Speaker 1: in a package type. No. I like it. I really
- 24:57Speaker 1: doing a lot of this again, contingent on no trades
- 24:59Speaker 1: here and the Cardinals staying where they are at three,
- 25:01Speaker 1: and you had them taking Will Anderson. You also have
- 25:03Speaker 1: the Eagles stay where they are at ten. A lot
- 25:06Speaker 1: of people think how he might trade down. Yeah, man,
- 25:09Speaker 1: he does like to trade. But if they stay be
- 25:12Speaker 1: Gen Robinson, it would be fun. It feels like the
- 25:15Speaker 1: ultimate luxury pick. Like this is such a good roster
- 25:18Speaker 1: right top to bottom. They bring everybody back on the
- 25:20Speaker 1: defensive side of the ball. You've already got one of
- 25:22Speaker 1: the best, if not the best, offensive line in football.
- 25:26Speaker 1: You know, there's a commitment to the run game there,
- 25:29Speaker 1: So let's give it to a player, you know, who's
- 25:31Speaker 1: a top five overall player regardless of position in this
- 25:34Speaker 1: entire draft class. And so, yeah, maybe it's a little
- 25:38Speaker 1: high for a running back, but not too high for
- 25:39Speaker 1: a player of that caliber, and for a team that
- 25:42Speaker 1: wants to run the football the way the Eagles, and
- 25:44Speaker 1: a team that saw Miles Sanders leave and go to Carolina,
- 25:47Speaker 1: a team that obviously one last year in the year
- 25:49Speaker 1: before that the second half of the season with running
- 25:51Speaker 1: the football. I say it gets interesting at eleven only
- 25:54Speaker 1: because it's not that shocking that the Titans might go quarterback.
- 25:58Speaker 1: Are Ryan Tannehill's contract coming to an end. But they
- 26:01Speaker 1: took Lake Willis, Yeah, last year, who medi had projected.
- 26:05Speaker 1: Granted he fell to be a first round right right,
- 26:08Speaker 1: And look, I think with will Levis, what you're getting
- 26:10Speaker 1: is kind of what you kind of thought you were
- 26:12Speaker 1: hoping that Malik Willis was going to bring you, which
- 26:15Speaker 1: was some of that athleticism and the ability to eventually
- 26:17Speaker 1: develop into a starter. But I feel like Levis gives
- 26:20Speaker 1: it to you in a package now in which he's
- 26:23Speaker 1: a bit more ready to play if called upon that
- 26:26Speaker 1: maybe Malik Willis was when he came into the league.
- 26:28Speaker 1: And I's not to say Malik can't become that player,
- 26:31Speaker 1: but at least at this point, you're giving yourself another opportunity.
- 26:33Speaker 1: And in the absence of some sort of real long
- 26:36Speaker 1: term commitment to Ryan Tannehill beyond this year, I think
- 26:40Speaker 1: it's time to start looking for the future. And I
- 26:42Speaker 1: don't think you know, Mike vrabel is heading out to
- 26:44Speaker 1: all these quarterback pro days for no reason. No, and
- 26:47Speaker 1: if look, Malik Willis had done something in December that
- 26:50Speaker 1: made you say, all right, this could work, maybe this
- 26:53Speaker 1: would be a little bit different. Granted the guy still
- 26:55Speaker 1: young football player, he still has plenty of time. You
- 26:58Speaker 1: have the Seahawks going defense at five, you have the
- 27:00Speaker 1: Seahawks coming back with their second pit. Yeah. I kind
- 27:03Speaker 1: of like this going ahead. In Hooker, I mean, is
- 27:06Speaker 1: there is there a buzz about the draft that is
- 27:11Speaker 1: kind of trending more and is out there more than
- 27:14Speaker 1: hindon Hooker being a first round pick. Right it seems
- 27:16Speaker 1: like one of the buzziest conversations regarding this draft, in
- 27:19Speaker 1: this draft class as of right now, and so I
- 27:21Speaker 1: feel like the spots to watch there are those teams
- 27:24Speaker 1: that have multiple picks or that have the established veteran
- 27:28Speaker 1: I could see the Titans. If they don't like who
- 27:30Speaker 1: they have at eleven, maybe they move down and try
- 27:33Speaker 1: to find Hindon Hooker or just take them there at eleven.
- 27:35Speaker 1: In this case, the Seahawks are locked into Gino Smith
- 27:37Speaker 1: for another year or two and nothing gets a perfect
- 27:39Speaker 1: spot for Hindon Hooker to kind of sit there and
- 27:42Speaker 1: not have the pressure to go out and play right away,
- 27:44Speaker 1: but eventually become the face of that franchise. Vikings make sense.
- 27:47Speaker 1: Maybe the Lions, with their second go round at eighteen,
- 27:50Speaker 1: could be in the hooker business as well. And that
- 27:52Speaker 1: was a knee injury that happened in November. He is
- 27:54Speaker 1: certainly getting back there. He should be ready by September,
- 27:57Speaker 1: but why push it here? Granted he is a little
- 27:59Speaker 1: bit older now. The back half of the twenties, you
- 28:01Speaker 1: have a run on wide receivers and tight ends, but
- 28:04Speaker 1: right in the middle of the run, you have I
- 28:07Speaker 1: think a guy that fits the town perfectly at twenty
- 28:11Speaker 1: seven Town Prospect Franchise fan base. Let's have Cody Mauk
- 28:16Speaker 1: from North Dakota State Gold play along the offensive line
- 28:20Speaker 1: in Buffalo. So here's the option that Cody Mouk gives
- 28:23Speaker 1: you started a left tackle North Dakota State. Feels like
- 28:26Speaker 1: he can play inside at guard. Took snaps as you
- 28:29Speaker 1: know at center Senior Bowl, So you've got some opportunity
- 28:33Speaker 1: there if you need a swing tackle to fill in
- 28:35Speaker 1: for Dion Dawkins or Spencer Brown, and maybe you get
- 28:38Speaker 1: an upgrade along the interior of the offensive line in
- 28:40Speaker 1: the near term. Feel like Cody Mauk gives the Bills
- 28:44Speaker 1: what they want and ability to be a powerful team
- 28:46Speaker 1: in the run game if they want. And then let's
- 28:48Speaker 1: go break some tables, you know, after the game. And
- 28:50Speaker 1: it feels like he'd be okay with that. Do you
- 28:52Speaker 1: know a lot of people say in Buffalo might not
- 28:54Speaker 1: be the sexy pick, or maybe it is a Buffalo
- 28:55Speaker 1: sexy pick. Cody Mauk twenty seven. I was joking about
- 28:59Speaker 1: about rhet doing every show that at work, no one
- 29:01Speaker 1: knows the draft better than this guy right here. Path
- 29:04Speaker 1: to the draft hose tonight, Let's go. It's Mock Draft Live,
- 29:08Speaker 1: Mock Draft Live eight, and then we've got Path to
- 29:10Speaker 1: the Draft at six. I'm gonna wear my helmets because
- 29:12Speaker 1: I've got a dye show. Yeah, well happened with that
- 29:16Speaker 1: Daniel Jeremiah. I've got to deal with him twice today
- 29:18Speaker 1: and so as you know, he can throw some shots
- 29:20Speaker 1: your way and I just want to be fully protected.
- 29:22Speaker 1: And so I've got this. I'm just gonna have my
- 29:24Speaker 1: helmet on ready to go and ask them why they
- 29:25Speaker 1: couldn't get Linda out in the seventhiest. It's a great point,
- 29:28Speaker 1: the Little Ammunition. Ritt lewis everybody host of Mock Draft
- 29:34Speaker 1: Live and Path to the Draft. All the show's on after.
