- 0:54do a little catch-up or
- 0:54then we're going to hit
- 0:55some news of the week it's
- 0:57kind of been a light week
- 0:58so we have a lot of like
- 0:59quick hitters this week um
- 1:01other than the experience
- 1:03at fresca or fittest on the
- 1:05coast and then um then
- 1:07we'll get out of here
- 1:08tonight but it's good to
- 1:09see everybody good to see
- 1:10you aaron everybody else in
- 1:12the chat I'd love to have
- 1:13you here so we had the
- 1:16super bowl yesterday let's
- 1:17start with that
- 1:18I know I think we were all
- 1:20pulling for the eagles I
- 1:23mean I didn't care
- 1:24regardless but yeah I
- 1:25didn't nice to not see the
- 1:28chiefs win again yeah
- 1:30agreed agreed agreed I
- 1:33didn't expect a blowout
- 1:34like that I didn't either
- 1:37not a very fun game to
- 1:39watch yeah like I was hoping for
- 1:42the Eagles to win,
- 1:43but I still wanted it to be a game.
- 1:45And it was,
- 1:45it just got away so fast that
- 1:49it was almost,
- 1:50it was just like a disappointing.
- 1:51I agree.
- 1:52Right.
- 1:52Like it was like, Oh,
- 1:55You almost felt bad.
- 1:55It was tough to watch.
- 1:59I love watching great defense, though.
- 2:02And I know I'm probably one
- 2:03of the few in the world that loves that.
- 2:07But being a Bears fan,
- 2:07we've never had a good offense.
- 2:10So like you always,
- 2:11the only times when my team
- 2:12were good were when the
- 2:13defense was like that.
- 2:16and that was fun to watch
- 2:17for me see cooper dejean
- 2:20get a touchdown on his
- 2:21birthday um with the pick
- 2:23six um that defensive line
- 2:26was ferocious what seven
- 2:29sacks that last one that
- 2:35that one looked painful
- 2:37he got decapitated.
- 2:41It was bad.
- 2:42I was like,
- 2:43someone take him out of the
- 2:44game right now.
- 2:45He's about to get injured.
- 2:45Yeah.
- 2:47So, um, so overall, like not,
- 2:50you're right.
- 2:51Not a great game,
- 2:52but I really do like
- 2:53watching great defense play defense.
- 2:55Um, and that was fun to watch for me.
- 2:58Uh, several commercials, uh,
- 3:02We don't see them really in Canada.
- 3:04We get different commercials.
- 3:06So I'll see,
- 3:07I'll see some of the
- 3:08commercials like on
- 3:09Instagram or other places
- 3:10that are shared after,
- 3:12but we don't have the same networks.
- 3:13I think promoting the games as you guys.
- 3:15So oftentimes I'll see the
- 3:18commercials later.
- 3:19Yeah.
- 3:21Gotcha.
- 3:21I did really like that Nike one.
- 3:23I thought one was that one,
- 3:24one of them released yesterday.
- 3:29No, the one with all the females.
- 3:31Yeah,
- 3:31that one was released during the
- 3:33Super Bowl.
- 3:34Yeah, see,
- 3:34that was a great commercial to
- 3:37use the platform of the
- 3:38Super Bowl to promote all
- 3:41the top women right now.
- 3:43Yeah, I thought that was good.
- 3:44And then they released a Jalen Hurts one,
- 3:47like everybody doubting him
- 3:49right after the game.
- 3:51Oh, awesome.
- 3:54And it was actually very well done.
- 3:56Like if he was my team and my guy,
- 3:59like I would be so pumped
- 4:00up after watching that ad.
- 4:02Yeah.
- 4:05And that was cool to do.
- 4:07They were making jokes this
- 4:07morning that I wonder if
- 4:09Adidas still has the
- 4:10Patrick Mahomes one and
- 4:12they have to now scrap it
- 4:13and never use it.
- 4:17Does that end the Brady and
- 4:19Mahomes debate right now?
- 4:23I think for now.
- 4:24Yeah,
- 4:25they'll slow it down a little bit for
- 4:26sure.
- 4:28It's tough to three-peat.
- 4:29Yeah.
- 4:29I mean, they've still been in the finals.
- 4:34Is that fifth time or
- 4:36something in six years,
- 4:37something like that?
- 4:38Which is incredible.
- 4:40Yeah.
- 4:42All before thirty.
- 4:43He's done all this before thirty.
- 4:47I think what
- 4:49the defense was great and
- 4:51I'll give them their flowers,
- 4:52but he looked,
- 4:53he Patrick Mahomes looked
- 4:54like a bears quarterback.
- 4:56That's how bad it was.
- 4:58Like,
- 4:59I felt like I was watching my own team.
- 5:00It was that bad.
- 5:05Yeah.
- 5:05Yeah.
- 5:05Wasn't great.
- 5:09um nicole sherman says uh
- 5:11commercials were mid
- 5:12halftime show was lit did
- 5:14you see serena crip walking
- 5:16well played I did see that
- 5:18I I did not realize it was
- 5:20her until a couple moments
- 5:22later when it finally sunk
- 5:24in I have got to be honest
- 5:26like I'm a huge music fan I
- 5:28I know nothing from
- 5:29kendrick lamar I knew none
- 5:31of that music during the
- 5:33halftime show I thought it sounded good
- 5:36And I thought the show was good.
- 5:39I could not get into it like
- 5:41the hip-hop anniversary
- 5:43show they did or Usher or any, like,
- 5:48I know that stuff.
- 5:50This one just didn't do it for me.
- 5:54Yeah, I mean,
- 5:55it's a lot of art really and
- 5:58historical references and
- 6:03Drake references.
- 6:04And yeah,
- 6:05like I've been reading up a lot on it.
- 6:07I'm not obviously a
- 6:08professional of everything
- 6:10that's happened
- 6:11historically and currently with the beef,
- 6:13but there's a lot of stuff
- 6:16to read up on it.
- 6:17And the more that you read
- 6:19up and then you go back and
- 6:20watch the performance,
- 6:21you can appreciate more and more.
- 6:24what he orchestrated with
- 6:26with his performance um
- 6:29which is cool yeah I did
- 6:31not know that serena was
- 6:32drake's ex and so yeah very
- 6:35well played yeah I don't
- 6:38know I that whole thing
- 6:40I've been seeing so many
- 6:41posts like if you didn't
- 6:44like the halftime show
- 6:45you're racist I I'm so over
- 6:48shit like that like
- 6:49Like,
- 6:49Scott just doesn't really know the music.
- 6:52Doesn't mean he has an opinion.
- 6:54Like,
- 6:54there's going to be a lot of people
- 6:55who listen to that who just
- 6:57couldn't understand the words.
- 6:58So they didn't even
- 6:59understand the message right away.
- 7:00Like,
- 7:01you cannot put that kind of statement
- 7:03on people just for not
- 7:06grasping something right away.
- 7:07And now they need to go do
- 7:08research and praise it and be like, oh,
- 7:10my gosh, it was genius.
- 7:11Like,
- 7:11this is just so ridiculous that this
- 7:13is where we're at as a society.
- 7:16my my dad didn't know much
- 7:18of it like he he's like I
- 7:20don't really listen to rap
- 7:21like my dad likes uh just
- 7:24different genre and he's
- 7:25very french right so he
- 7:26he's not able to appreciate
- 7:28it yeah I was like I mean I
- 7:31was like I mean I like
- 7:32kendrick so um like I can
- 7:35and lex is a huge kendrick
- 7:36fan so um for sure that's
- 7:40different music for different people too
- 7:42So I'm lumped in the
- 7:43Carolyn's dad category, which is fine.
- 7:47Yeah, it is.
- 7:49I will say.
- 7:52I will say like Julie and I have my wife,
- 7:54Julie,
- 7:55and I have this conversation all
- 7:56the time.
- 7:56She knows every word to
- 7:58every song ever done.
- 8:01I am more of a groove beat guy.
- 8:04She is more of a lyrics person.
- 8:06And so like the lyrics are
- 8:08never going to like speak
- 8:10to me like they do to her.
- 8:13If that makes sense.
- 8:13Like, I'm more a,
- 8:16I want to hear a good groove, a good beat,
- 8:19things like that, where she really wants,
- 8:22if the lyrics aren't
- 8:22important and mean something,
- 8:24she doesn't like the song.
- 8:26Did she,
- 8:27could she hear all the lyrics and
- 8:29understand it?
- 8:31She has been so, she has insomnia so bad,
- 8:34she probably slept through
- 8:36most of the game.
- 8:37Fair enough.
- 8:40So I don't know her take on Kendrick's.
- 8:44She said it sounded good.
- 8:45I think what she could hear
- 8:47with her eyes closed.
- 8:49That's good.
- 8:50So she missed out on the art part of it.
- 8:51Yeah, I mean, the dancing was cool.
- 8:53Like the overhead aerial
- 8:55shots looking down looked sweet.
- 8:58But I don't know.
- 9:02I mean,
- 9:02to read into people's opinions is
- 9:05just mind-boggling to me.
- 9:06Yeah.
- 9:09Yeah.
- 9:10Everything turns out that way.
- 9:11And it really, I can't, we just enjoy.
- 9:13Right.
- 9:14Right.
- 9:15Um, I thought the pregame was good.
- 9:17I thought I really liked
- 9:18John Baptiste's national anthem.
- 9:21I thought that had a cool vibe to it.
- 9:23And I know that Canada has a different one,
- 9:24Carolyn.
- 9:25So I'm not even going to
- 9:26assume that you watched that part.
- 9:29Um, I thought, but I've really,
- 9:31I've really grown to get to
- 9:33know John Baptiste over the
- 9:34last few months, even before this thing.
- 9:37And I really like his music.
- 9:40I thought he was good.
- 9:41I thought Lady Gaga was good
- 9:42in the French Quarter.
- 9:44I thought a lot of the pregame stuff.
- 9:45America the Beautiful was awesome.
- 9:48And what's really cool is they had...
- 9:52I can never remember their name,
- 9:53but it's a trombone shorty
- 9:57play a song beforehand.
- 10:00And what was cool about that
- 10:02is I saw them when I was in
- 10:04New Orleans for a business
- 10:05conference free at the House of Blues,
- 10:09and they were incredible.
- 10:11It's just like a tuba, a trombone,
- 10:14a lady singer,
- 10:16some other marching band music,
- 10:18and they play like they're a rock band.
- 10:22and they played right before
- 10:24and it was cool to see like
- 10:25new orleans native music
- 10:28being played at the super
- 10:30bowl I thought that was
- 10:30cool so that's my two cents
- 10:39In other news,
- 10:41because our TV shows have
- 10:43been really weird this year
- 10:44by the way they broadcast.
- 10:46I found two new shows that I
- 10:47absolutely adore.
- 10:48And that is The Pit on HBO
- 10:51Max with Noah Wiley back in the ER.
- 10:56Every episode of the show is
- 10:58one hour of a day.
- 11:01And the whole show is one day.
- 11:04Dang, back to twenty four.
- 11:06That was one of my favorite shows ever.
- 11:09And then another show I
- 11:11found on Prime is On Call.
- 11:15And it is a police show with
- 11:19a trainee of a rookie.
- 11:21And one of the police forces
- 11:22has been shot and killed
- 11:24right before he comes into the force.
- 11:26Oh, geez.
- 11:27So they're trying to find
- 11:28the person who killed the police officer.
- 11:31And she's trying to train
- 11:33him on how to be a good cop.
- 11:35And a lot of the footage is
- 11:37dash cam body cam footage.
- 11:41Now it's fictitious completely, but they,
- 11:44so when they're running down a perp,
- 11:46like you're running with them,
- 11:48it is insane.
- 11:50It is so like mobile.
- 11:53And I really,
- 11:54really are enjoying those two shows.
- 11:57I'll check them out.
- 12:00We binge watched five
- 12:01episodes yesterday before
- 12:02the Super Bowl of long call.
- 12:07So,
- 12:07because I couldn't do like eight hours
- 12:10of pregame stuff.
- 12:11Yeah.
- 12:13Did you watch Fresh, the Fittest, or the,
- 12:15yeah, the Fittest of the Coast?
- 12:17I did.
- 12:17Oh.
- 12:19I would watch that in between episodes.
- 12:23We'll get to that in a second.
- 12:24I have a lot of thoughts.
- 12:28But anyway.
- 12:29Did you watch the Puppy Bowl?
- 12:32I did not.
- 12:32I did.
- 12:33I saw that when I was scrolling through.
- 12:34I was like, what?
- 12:36I didn't watch it this year
- 12:38and all that stuff.
- 12:38No.
- 12:38I was doing some schoolwork.
- 12:42To those who enjoy that, good for them.
- 12:44I have a puppy at home.
- 12:48I was hearing that like
- 12:50those dogs are up for
- 12:51adoptions all the time and
- 12:52then they get – is that
- 12:56true or did I read that wrong?
- 12:58That those are like dogs
- 12:59that are up for adoption
- 13:00and then people will call in?
- 13:01Oh, wow.
- 13:02Oh.
- 13:04I could be wrong with that.
- 13:06Maybe I read something else.
- 13:08That's actually a pretty cool idea.
- 13:16Yeah.
- 13:16Well, cool.
- 13:17Does anybody else have
- 13:18anything to catch up on this week?
- 13:24All right.
- 13:26With that,
- 13:27then we'll jump into some CrossFit stuff.
- 13:31It was announced not that
- 13:33long ago that CrossFit
- 13:36Mayhem will be doing the
- 13:38first open announcement,
- 13:39with three of their athletes.
- 13:45Haley, Roman,
- 13:47and Austin Hatfield will be
- 13:49doing the announcement.
- 13:51We have...
- 13:53We've been pretty hard on
- 13:54mayhem on this show the last few weeks.
- 13:57It just seems after the
- 13:59things that we have said
- 14:00over the last few weeks,
- 14:02when this is the first
- 14:03announcement on the first open workout,
- 14:06good Lord,
- 14:07like I joked to the crew in the
- 14:10text string,
- 14:11welcome to the twenty twenty
- 14:12five mayhem open.
- 14:18Seems like they have their
- 14:19hands involved everywhere
- 14:20with the games stuff this year.
- 14:25First of all,
- 14:26thoughts on Mayhem being picked first?
- 14:33I mean, they went to what?
- 14:33Proven?
- 14:34Was Proven last year first?
- 14:39No, I don't think it was first.
- 14:40No, yeah, it had the Barmell stuff.
- 14:42That wasn't the first one.
- 14:43That was the third one.
- 14:45Right.
- 14:46I mean...
- 14:49Mayhem's a safe pick.
- 14:50They have a great community.
- 14:55They have a lot of reach
- 14:56everywhere around the world.
- 14:57I think it's a safe pick.
- 14:59And I think that they do a
- 15:00really good job with their
- 15:02social media team.
- 15:04They put out a ton of great content.
- 15:05So in terms of that,
- 15:08I think they'll do a great job.
- 15:10I like that that inevitably
- 15:13means that you're getting Rory back.
- 15:16Well, they wrote in the thing, Rory,
- 15:18and then I think I saw Get
- 15:20With The Programming.
- 15:20Yeah, Chase.
- 15:21Yeah.
- 15:21Yeah.
- 15:25If you give me a Roe versus Boz,
- 15:26I'll really be into it.
- 15:27Yeah.
- 15:28Right?
- 15:30I think we need stuff like that again.
- 15:31I do, too.
- 15:33Whether it's the two of them
- 15:34or two new people that have an ongoing...
- 15:41competition through all the
- 15:42weeks of the open and maybe
- 15:43even into uh the community
- 15:45cup or whatever we're doing
- 15:47um I think that would be
- 15:50awesome yeah I agree is
- 15:55roman healthy like that's
- 15:57what I'm wondering like I
- 15:58wasn't even sure he was
- 15:59competing this year
- 16:01Did he have the surgery on his hip labrum?
- 16:05Did he ever have the surgery?
- 16:06I don't know.
- 16:09I feel like I saw him just
- 16:10continue to train.
- 16:13And maybe he's putting it
- 16:14off or maybe he had the
- 16:15surgery and he just
- 16:16recovered really fast.
- 16:17Because I thought it was a
- 16:19surgery that was like a lot
- 16:20of months of recovery if I
- 16:21remember well from like a
- 16:23barbell spin article.
- 16:24Yeah.
- 16:26Yeah.
- 16:28I thought it was his hip labrum.
- 16:29Yeah.
- 16:30Yeah.
- 16:31Which is a major one.
- 16:32Yeah, that's not going to be quick.
- 16:37Yeah, I mean,
- 16:38Kat has had that surgery from
- 16:41the roundtable show.
- 16:43Charlie has had that surgery.
- 16:46The recovery is not quick.
- 16:47Yeah,
- 16:48I've had a lot of hockey teammates
- 16:50have that surgery.
- 16:52It's a tough one.
- 16:55So I feel like he'd never had it.
- 16:58Yeah, that's what it seems like.
- 17:02Yeah.
- 17:04Craig says he's not posting a lot.
- 17:09All his posts say regaining strength.
- 17:13Sus.
- 17:15And Aaron says Roman has had
- 17:16quite the offseason with his injury.
- 17:18Interested to see if he can
- 17:19put things together this year.
- 17:21I think the shame of it all is, you know,
- 17:23we waited for him for five
- 17:24years when he was probably in his prime.
- 17:28And then he gets here and
- 17:29he's had nothing but injury
- 17:30riddled seasons ever since he got here.
- 17:34I mean,
- 17:35I think he was in his prime last
- 17:36year as well.
- 17:37Like he was dominating until
- 17:40Jeff was not like this last year,
- 17:43but the year before.
- 17:43Right.
- 17:44Until Jeff was like creeping
- 17:46up on him and then overtook
- 17:47him on event ten.
- 17:49But, like,
- 17:49he looked good at those games
- 17:51until he got injured and
- 17:52then hasn't been the same really since.
- 17:54He didn't look good at
- 17:55Waterpalooza that following year.
- 17:58Semifinals was okay.
- 18:00The games wasn't great for him.
- 18:03And then, yeah, the injuries.
- 18:05Like, even this matchup, I'm like, meh.
- 18:08That's just my opinion.
- 18:08I'm like, yeah.
- 18:13It doesn't excite me that much.
- 18:14There's not really, like,
- 18:15a big rivalry there, like,
- 18:19There's no rivalry.
- 18:20And it's like,
- 18:21I do always wonder how they
- 18:22pick the people they're
- 18:23going to pick to do it.
- 18:24And if it's based on the workout,
- 18:26because like they don't
- 18:27seem to necessarily pick
- 18:29matchups that make sense for the workout.
- 18:32Like you want to see a good head to head.
- 18:33Like those three athletes
- 18:36don't even like make sense to me.
- 18:39that's how I felt but then
- 18:41I'm assuming they they said
- 18:42hey mayhem do you want to
- 18:43host pick a few athletes
- 18:45and then they went and
- 18:46picked their athletes like
- 18:47that's just like what I'm
- 18:48assuming yeah um because
- 18:51they're very different
- 18:52athletes I mean if we're
- 18:53looking at it from a draw
- 18:56standpoint the most popular
- 18:58mayhem athletes those are the three
- 19:03Probably.
- 19:08I would say he is a more
- 19:09popular mayhem athlete than
- 19:11all three of them.
- 19:12Yeah, you're probably right.
- 19:16Haley's pool is pretty big.
- 19:18Haley out of the other two,
- 19:20like Austin has barely any followers.
- 19:22I feel like he's growing quickly, but yeah,
- 19:26he's growing,
- 19:27but I wouldn't put them very
- 19:29like really up there.
- 19:31And Roman's been pretty quiet.
- 19:33He's got the John Young boost.
- 19:35Yeah.
- 19:41Alyssa Stuckey says,
- 19:42I've had the same surgery
- 19:43and the recovery is long.
- 19:50I just had to.
- 19:51Trish ate too much
- 19:52Stouffer's chicken fried rice.
- 19:54Might need surgery too.
- 19:56About to burst.
- 19:57I feel you, Trish.
- 20:00I feel you.
- 20:01I've had those days.
- 20:04Um, my other,
- 20:10I guess we already talked
- 20:11about the other aspect of this.
- 20:13Um, but yeah, so they're,
- 20:14they're leading off the open stuff also.
- 20:17Um,
- 20:20We had a Dave's Week in
- 20:21Review happen just before
- 20:23we went on the air.
- 20:25I captured a couple
- 20:26highlights that I thought
- 20:28were either pertinent or funny.
- 20:31At one point,
- 20:32someone asked him about High
- 20:33Rocks and to combat High Rocks,
- 20:37should the games do event
- 20:39one as the High Rocks event?
- 20:42Um, Dave said,
- 20:44you could see him thinking
- 20:45through the process and he said, well,
- 20:47it's just a chipper and
- 20:49then the broad jumps are
- 20:51silly and we would hold
- 20:56people more accountable.
- 21:00On the judges of the wobbles.
- 21:02Right.
- 21:03And we could probably just
- 21:04make a better workout.
- 21:07Fair.
- 21:07He said better use of the
- 21:08time for our first event.
- 21:12I was paraphrasing.
- 21:13Yeah.
- 21:13But like, same thing.
- 21:14Like,
- 21:16I don't think the burpee broad jumps
- 21:17are a bad movement though.
- 21:18I don't, I don't either.
- 21:20I think they're,
- 21:21I think they're very efficient.
- 21:22Get the point A to point B.
- 21:23You can easily.
- 21:25Huh?
- 21:26Hella hard to judge.
- 21:30Yeah.
- 21:31I mean, they wouldn't be if,
- 21:33if people don't, if,
- 21:34if you could just burpee
- 21:36and then your feet must be together.
- 21:38Once you've taken your one
- 21:39step or your two feet,
- 21:40they have to be together
- 21:41and not one foot way in front.
- 21:43It's not too bad.
- 21:45It's just really getting
- 21:49from point A to point B though.
- 21:50Yeah.
- 21:52We did them a lot when I
- 21:53first did CrossFit, like,
- 21:54like they were always in our warmup.
- 21:59Um,
- 22:00Like if you did twenty five
- 22:02feet at a time and you
- 22:04don't even care as long as
- 22:05you don't take shuffle steps.
- 22:09It's not that bad of a movement.
- 22:10I don't think so.
- 22:13The true highlight of the
- 22:15days we can review is I
- 22:18have wanted something in CrossFit forever,
- 22:22so much so that I named
- 22:24this channel Clydesdale Media.
- 22:29I have wanted it forever.
- 22:34When I was a kid or when I
- 22:36was in high school,
- 22:37they had a running division
- 22:38in all the big events that
- 22:40they called the Clydesdale
- 22:41division that were for two
- 22:43hundred plus two hundred
- 22:45pound plus athletes where
- 22:47they could run and compete
- 22:48amongst themselves as
- 22:49opposed to running against
- 22:51one hundred and twenty
- 22:52hundred and thirty pound runners.
- 22:54And I thought,
- 22:55wouldn't that be cool if
- 22:56CrossFit had that in local
- 22:58comps and maybe even at the upper levels?
- 23:00But it doesn't have to be the main event.
- 23:04Someone wrote in that question,
- 23:06why doesn't CrossFit have weight classes?
- 23:09And Dave said, ooh, that's a good idea.
- 23:13We could do something like a
- 23:14Clydesdale division.
- 23:17I was surprised to see him say that.
- 23:20And I lit up like a Christmas tree.
- 23:23because I think that's
- 23:24against the methodology.
- 23:25Like, it's just like, it's,
- 23:26you should be able to adapt
- 23:28regardless of weight, size, height.
- 23:31I'm not saying don't do it.
- 23:32Rx.
- 23:33No, no, I,
- 23:35I just was surprised that he
- 23:36even wanted the idea of
- 23:38doing different weight
- 23:40classes and it like for the open,
- 23:43cause they said something about like, um,
- 23:45you know,
- 23:46doing States and you can see if
- 23:48you're the fittest in this, you know,
- 23:49whatever state or country
- 23:51or what or whatnot.
- 23:52Um,
- 23:53but I was surprised that he liked the
- 23:55idea of the weight class.
- 23:56Yeah.
- 23:58Well,
- 23:59he hit my heart right in the center
- 24:01with the Cupid arrow,
- 24:03with that statement.
- 24:04So I was super happy about that.
- 24:05The other thing about the States,
- 24:07and this has been
- 24:08confounding for me forever,
- 24:10is that when I first
- 24:12started CrossFit and first did the Open,
- 24:14you could sort that leaderboard by like,
- 24:17eighteen different ways.
- 24:19You could do state,
- 24:20you could do geographic regions,
- 24:23you could do, like, all...
- 24:26by your job, by a ton of stuff.
- 24:29We've gone backwards
- 24:31technologically in how you
- 24:34can sort the leaderboard,
- 24:35and it is dumbfounding to
- 24:37me why you would get rid of that.
- 24:41Me and my friends would sort
- 24:42it all kinds of ways.
- 24:45Yeah, I would too.
- 24:45I would see,
- 24:46especially earlier on in CrossFit,
- 24:48I would look, okay,
- 24:49where am I in Ontario?
- 24:50Okay, where am I in Canada?
- 24:53Okay, where am I X, Y, and Z in the world?
- 24:57I always did that.
- 24:59Always, always.
- 25:00Okay, where am I with the teachers?
- 25:01I looked at every division
- 25:03that I felt like I took part in,
- 25:04and then I would see where I was at.
- 25:06And then I would do every
- 25:08year on January first,
- 25:09I would have goals.
- 25:10I want to be number one in Ontario.
- 25:12I want to be top, I don't know,
- 25:13three in Canada.
- 25:14And I would write them all.
- 25:15And they were all based off
- 25:16of those divisions that were in the open.
- 25:19So when that question was posed,
- 25:20I was like, oh,
- 25:21do they not even have that anymore?
- 25:24They have not had it for
- 25:25five or six years.
- 25:27they should bring that back for sure.
- 25:28Cause to me it was meaningful.
- 25:30Cause if you know,
- 25:31certain things are out of reach,
- 25:32especially earlier on for certain people.
- 25:35And then you start having
- 25:36smaller goals or forever.
- 25:37Yeah.
- 25:38And then you start having certain goals.
- 25:40Yeah.
- 25:40Some of us are not Carolyn
- 25:41Prevo that are in the top
- 25:43ten of the open and can
- 25:45just look at the leaderboard.
- 25:47Some of us have to finagle
- 25:48that leaderboard to make it
- 25:49look like we're doing something.
- 25:51Clydesdale division.
- 25:52Yep.
- 25:53There we go.
- 25:57Yes, Andrew,
- 25:57you can create custom leaderboards,
- 25:59but to organize everybody
- 26:00in the state of Ohio to
- 26:02join in on your leaderboard
- 26:04would be... With a hashtag Ohio,
- 26:06like it's not happening.
- 26:08We're talking about the...
- 26:10You didn't have to customize it.
- 26:11It was already done for you.
- 26:13Like you wrote where was
- 26:15your affiliate or where
- 26:16your hometown was and
- 26:17everything was sorted from there.
- 26:21If it was a field you had to
- 26:22enter to sign up for the open,
- 26:24you could pretty much sort on it.
- 26:25Right.
- 26:29And that was awesome.
- 26:30That's great.
- 26:31Yeah, they should bring that back.
- 26:32That's a great idea.
- 26:34But apparently new
- 26:36technology won't allow them to do it.
- 26:40Baffling small team.
- 26:43He was also asked about the
- 26:45World Fitness Project and
- 26:47their competition.
- 26:50He said that he doesn't know much about it,
- 26:53hasn't really heard much.
- 26:54He's heard some rumors that scare him.
- 26:57He does not like the
- 26:58exclusivity talk that he
- 27:00heard about in a rumor.
- 27:02And he said that CrossFit
- 27:04will never have an exclusive signing,
- 27:09that you can only do theirs
- 27:10and not others'.
- 27:13And that's really all he
- 27:14really said about it.
- 27:15And then he said,
- 27:16I wish them luck and then
- 27:19kind of moved on.
- 27:21But CrossFit shouldn't have
- 27:22an exclusive thing.
- 27:25If you think about the sport,
- 27:26we want to say,
- 27:27go take part in anything in
- 27:30the world that's physical challenge,
- 27:32and we know that the
- 27:33CrossFitters are going to outdo everyone.
- 27:35That's what we're built off, right?
- 27:38Why would they want just
- 27:39people to do the CrossFit Open Season,
- 27:41CrossFit Games, and that's it,
- 27:42and never expose those
- 27:44athletes to any other competition?
- 27:45It's only beneficial to...
- 27:47CrossFit to allow people to
- 27:49go take part in all of
- 27:50these competitions and the
- 27:51CrossFitters win.
- 27:52It's like, oh, okay.
- 27:54How do you get good at this
- 27:55type of competition?
- 27:56You go to your affiliate and
- 27:57you do CrossFit.
- 28:01the last thing I'll say is
- 28:02he promoted uh the
- 28:04community cup repeatedly um
- 28:06there seems to be just a
- 28:07major push uh to get people
- 28:10to sign up for um the the
- 28:12community cup and then he
- 28:14also talked about if you if
- 28:15you're an affiliate who
- 28:16wants to win prizes you
- 28:18have to create a team and
- 28:20it's a dollar to create the
- 28:22team and it does not
- 28:25qualify it's not a qualifier
- 28:27to get you to semis as a
- 28:29team it's just for these
- 28:30prizes uh to set up your
- 28:34affiliate so that they can
- 28:36I'm assuming so they can
- 28:37query you into a
- 28:39leaderboard to find out who
- 28:41has performed the best
- 28:44because they eliminated
- 28:45that a former leaderboard
- 28:47that they could have done
- 28:47that all along right
- 28:52All right,
- 28:52the next thing we have on the
- 28:54rundown is Max Elhaj has
- 28:59not been on social media
- 29:00forever and came back with a bang.
- 29:07What I will say about this,
- 29:08and then I'll leave it up
- 29:09to my co-hosts and we can
- 29:12run through this, is this, first of all,
- 29:15he posted six or nine of these
- 29:19about different coaching
- 29:20philosophies and things like that.
- 29:23They're very good reads, all of them.
- 29:25But I wanted to focus on
- 29:26this because I think for the first time,
- 29:29someone said how I was feeling the best.
- 29:34And it's on this one.
- 29:35Because
- 29:38I do want to support CrossFit.
- 29:41I do think the methodology saved my life,
- 29:46and I do want to support it,
- 29:47but they have not been perfect.
- 29:50We have been demanding changes,
- 29:52and those changes haven't happened yet.
- 29:55And I still think they need
- 29:56to be held accountable for
- 29:58some of those changes to
- 30:00different things.
- 30:01And this is well before the
- 30:03Lazar Jukic issue.
- 30:07So I don't want it to all fall on that.
- 30:09This is an overarching,
- 30:11things needed to be done better.
- 30:17And so I was really,
- 30:18I felt good about that
- 30:20someone actually was able
- 30:22to articulate the way I was
- 30:23feeling like Max did.
- 30:27So I will turn it over to you too,
- 30:29if you have any thoughts
- 30:31and then we can go through
- 30:32it if we need to.
- 30:33I think I only made it
- 30:34through this one in the coach.
- 30:35What makes a good coach?
- 30:38That was a good one as well.
- 30:40That's some great points.
- 30:45Do you want to say anything, Jamie on it?
- 30:47No, you can start.
- 30:48I thought it was really well written.
- 30:51Um,
- 30:53Yeah.
- 30:54I felt like it was a lot of
- 30:56how a lot of people in the
- 30:57community feel.
- 30:58So,
- 30:58and you can definitely see that within
- 30:59the comments that, you know,
- 31:01at the end of the day, like we've all,
- 31:03we've all loved this sport
- 31:05and have seen it, you know,
- 31:08from a baby stage all the
- 31:09way to where we feel like
- 31:10we know it could be.
- 31:12And it hasn't been perfect at all.
- 31:14And there's been a lot of Rocky, you know,
- 31:17moments and, um,
- 31:21I think, yeah, I think,
- 31:22I think that there's some,
- 31:23some good stuff in there.
- 31:24I think that it's also
- 31:25important to listen to both sides and,
- 31:29and to, how do I say this?
- 31:34I think it was Lynn actually
- 31:35that said it in the comments.
- 31:36I have to go back to that post.
- 31:40Hold on one second.
- 31:45That like,
- 31:47there's been a lot of like
- 31:47disagreements and stuff like that.
- 31:49And then I think as long as
- 31:51there's people at the table, you know,
- 31:52having conversations and
- 31:54both sides are kind of
- 31:54being heard and you know,
- 31:57the athlete side is really being heard.
- 31:59I think that we can go forward.
- 32:02And not separate as much as it has been.
- 32:07But in order to not separate,
- 32:09we do have to listen to both sides,
- 32:12right?
- 32:12So the PFAA, let's, for example,
- 32:15like if they have
- 32:15suggestions that they've had,
- 32:17and now it's the CAC, is that what it is?
- 32:18C-A-C-A-C.
- 32:21Yeah.
- 32:22So it's like listening to
- 32:23the athletes and not just
- 32:24discarding because we have
- 32:26seen those those groups
- 32:28being formed before and
- 32:29then they've dismantled and
- 32:30stuff like that.
- 32:30So it's like you have to be
- 32:33able to listen to different
- 32:38perspectives and stuff.
- 32:39And and, you know.
- 32:42The division is obviously huge right now.
- 32:45But I thought he nailed it.
- 32:47I thought that he did a
- 32:48really good job with his
- 32:49wording here was really nice.
- 32:51Yeah.
- 32:55Just to pound home.
- 32:57A lot of us are torn inside, right?
- 33:00And just because people are
- 33:01moving with the season does
- 33:05not mean that they agree at
- 33:06all with how things have
- 33:09taken place and unfolded
- 33:13from the games and
- 33:15Um, it hasn't been enough, you know,
- 33:20like it's not forgotten, you know,
- 33:22just because someone is
- 33:23deciding to compete and
- 33:25there's a lot of work to be
- 33:26done and still changes need
- 33:28to happen to never have
- 33:29this ever happen again.
- 33:31Yeah.
- 33:32I mean, yeah, I think absolutely.
- 33:34Just because you are
- 33:35participating in the season
- 33:36does not mean you're fine with it.
- 33:38I think what I like about
- 33:39this is that like Max is saying,
- 33:41this is why he's going to
- 33:42step back in the,
- 33:44into the media space, speak up.
- 33:48You can't really just wipe
- 33:49your hands of it and say,
- 33:50don't participate, screw CrossFit.
- 33:53Hopefully they go under.
- 33:54That's not going to do anybody any favors.
- 33:57And so you need to
- 33:58participate and you need,
- 33:59and then you need to use a
- 34:00voice and speak up and have
- 34:04constructive criticism.
- 34:05There's a little bit,
- 34:06maybe too much of a bashing.
- 34:08And that's,
- 34:08that's just going to fall on
- 34:10deaf ears if we aren't providing the
- 34:13And I get it.
- 34:13We've tried to provide
- 34:15helpful solutions along the way,
- 34:18and it does feel like it's
- 34:19falling on deaf ears.
- 34:20I really enjoyed listening
- 34:21to Taylor talk with Saban
- 34:23about the CAC and how he
- 34:26feels like this time they
- 34:27are actually coming to the
- 34:29table to listen.
- 34:32I mean, that's encouraging to hear.
- 34:35Yeah, that's what you want, right?
- 34:36Like,
- 34:37that's why these types of groups
- 34:39should be formed, you know,
- 34:41and you should have different,
- 34:43not auditions,
- 34:44but every year new people
- 34:46that want to take part in any group.
- 34:48Yeah, it sounds like it is.
- 34:48New elections.
- 34:50Elections, yeah, not auditions.
- 34:51There's like a term limit, so, yeah.
- 34:54Because, like you said, you know,
- 34:57for it to happen,
- 34:58you have to be able to
- 34:59listen to both sides and see, you know,
- 35:02how we can go...
- 35:05forward together and, you know,
- 35:07proposing new ideas and stuff like that.
- 35:10So, yeah, I mean, it's what we're in,
- 35:14but again, I still don't,
- 35:17If people have a different
- 35:18opinion than this,
- 35:18I still don't fault them if
- 35:22they don't want to go on with the season.
- 35:24And if that's their personal
- 35:25decision and they have not seen enough.
- 35:28And like I said,
- 35:29just because some people
- 35:30are going with the scene
- 35:31doesn't mean that they're
- 35:33fine with what's happened as well.
- 35:35right and then other people
- 35:36that are designed to move
- 35:37away it's just it's also
- 35:39okay but they want to still
- 35:41see more and maybe they'll
- 35:42come back after they've
- 35:43seen a year or two and
- 35:45they've actually seen the
- 35:47progress in action versus
- 35:49talks and and that's okay
- 35:51too and some of them might
- 35:52never come back and that's
- 35:53okay as well um so I think
- 35:55there's there's room for
- 35:56everyone here but
- 35:59Hopefully, regardless of all that,
- 36:02I hope that lives are going
- 36:04to continue to get changed
- 36:06with CrossFit methodology.
- 36:08And I hope that we've
- 36:12learned a lot from this past year.
- 36:16And like I said,
- 36:17that it never happens again
- 36:18and that everything gets better.
- 36:23I think what has me optimistic is...
- 36:26that I know the former
- 36:27athlete councils didn't do
- 36:29anything and already we're
- 36:32hearing that they've met a
- 36:32couple times in dave's week
- 36:34in review he talked about
- 36:36one example of the grips
- 36:38and the change in the rule
- 36:40book and he they presented
- 36:42it to the athlete council
- 36:43the athlete council council
- 36:45is doing research on their
- 36:46own and they're going to
- 36:47come back with
- 36:48recommendations on that
- 36:50because it's caused such a stir um
- 36:54And when you listen to Taylor with Siobhan,
- 36:57a lot of that is exactly what Dave said.
- 36:59Like they're matching up.
- 37:02Both sides are matching up
- 37:03in their stories.
- 37:04And that is very,
- 37:06that gives me hope that
- 37:08they are starting to listen more.
- 37:11But again,
- 37:12this has only been a few months.
- 37:14We just need to talk about,
- 37:19we need this to be a more
- 37:21long-term thing.
- 37:23Yeah, absolutely.
- 37:23Like it's, it's more fresh.
- 37:25Well,
- 37:25obviously you have more meetings and
- 37:26then will it die off?
- 37:28And then there's less,
- 37:30there's less meetings.
- 37:31I hope not.
- 37:31I hope that they'll continue
- 37:33to get involved and people
- 37:34from outside of this, right.
- 37:35People that are not
- 37:36affiliated with CrossFit in
- 37:38any way that have great
- 37:40ideas and maybe can,
- 37:41can create some better changes for,
- 37:44for the sport or anything
- 37:45that's involved with CrossFit.
- 37:49But yeah, I hope that it continues.
- 37:54I do as well.
- 37:57That's cool.
- 38:01If you want to know more,
- 38:02make sure to check out
- 38:03Max's Instagram page.
- 38:05It's just Max Elhaj on Instagram.
- 38:10Like I said,
- 38:12let me... They're all really good.
- 38:16I really like the coaching one.
- 38:18The coaching one is phenomenal.
- 38:20So he put out nine different things.
- 38:24Mental health, quarter one,
- 38:27twenty twenty five training cycle.
- 38:30Yeah, they're all different subjects.
- 38:32Pretty cool stuff.
- 38:40Vi is asking,
- 38:41did you already talk about
- 38:42the survey sent out by the
- 38:43athlete council?
- 38:44Did not know that happened.
- 38:45I, where did that, like,
- 38:47did you get that Carolyn?
- 38:50I don't think I received a
- 38:51survey from the athlete council.
- 38:53I didn't receive that part.
- 38:54I'm curious whether those
- 38:55athletes are going to be
- 38:57expanding and asking
- 38:58questions within the community.
- 38:59How,
- 39:00how are they getting the answers to
- 39:02then bring back from the athletes?
- 39:03Right.
- 39:04Or is it just their personal?
- 39:06I'm curious.
- 39:07I'm curious for that, that kind of stuff.
- 39:10Cause I don't,
- 39:11I don't believe I've received anything.
- 39:13Yeah.
- 39:14Yeah.
- 39:18CrossFit will only listen to
- 39:20athletes about small things like Crips,
- 39:22making it look like there's
- 39:23meaningful dialogue.
- 39:23It's all BS politics.
- 39:25I'm trying to be optimistic.
- 39:27Yeah, I mean,
- 39:29that kind of thinking is just
- 39:31going to get us nowhere.
- 39:31I mean, they've taken us up.
- 39:34We've got to give them a chance.
- 39:37Yeah,
- 39:39and I really hope that this time around,
- 39:42You know, it's,
- 39:43it's done well and it's
- 39:45done with intention and it's done,
- 39:49you know, to really save,
- 39:52save the sport and save CrossFit really.
- 40:01So it's linked on helping stories.
- 40:03What I'll tell you is as,
- 40:05as many chances it takes
- 40:06because we don't have any other options.
- 40:08Yeah.
- 40:12um so now um wfp announced
- 40:15their final signings no tia
- 40:17right surprised she doesn't
- 40:21need it no she does not
- 40:23need it to go to a
- 40:27competition for six events
- 40:28and it's a lot of competing
- 40:31for her she's got a family
- 40:32like I don't think she needs it
- 40:36Tia's going to thrive anywhere.
- 40:38It doesn't matter,
- 40:39but I think it's more risky
- 40:41for her to go to a
- 40:41six-event competition
- 40:43that's not really testing
- 40:44for the fittest.
- 40:45She has more to lose than to win.
- 40:47This is for athletes who are
- 40:50trying to make a living off
- 40:52of this that don't have an income.
- 40:54Not for people who are
- 40:56million-dollar-sponsored athletes.
- 40:58They're good.
- 41:02I'm not surprised.
- 41:04Not at all.
- 41:06I'm surprised about Jeff
- 41:08being the final signed
- 41:09athlete and saying not even
- 41:11sure he's going to do the full season.
- 41:13Yes.
- 41:15I don't like that at all.
- 41:17I think that was taken out
- 41:18of context by people.
- 41:22I think he's just saying,
- 41:23the way that I understood it,
- 41:24and maybe it's just lost in translation,
- 41:26that people aren't going to
- 41:28be able to do every single
- 41:29competition like they think
- 41:30that they will be.
- 41:32But I don't think he's
- 41:33saying that you can't do
- 41:34both seasons in terms of
- 41:35qualifying online,
- 41:37going to the games for the
- 41:38CrossFit Games season.
- 41:40He could easily do online
- 41:42and just go one time at the
- 41:43CrossFit Games and then
- 41:44continue with the WFP.
- 41:47That's no issue.
- 41:48I think he's saying that
- 41:49people think that they can
- 41:50do way more than what they think.
- 41:53And they just won't have time.
- 41:55I think what he's saying is...
- 41:58I have a short amount of
- 41:59time to capitalize and make
- 42:01a living for myself.
- 42:03And I'm going to see how
- 42:05many people sign up for the
- 42:06open and what that prize
- 42:07purse is at the games.
- 42:09And I'm going to see what
- 42:09the prize purse is at WFP.
- 42:11And I'm going to do whatever
- 42:12is in my best interest to
- 42:14sustain myself in this
- 42:16career for as long as I can.
- 42:20If he has to choose.
- 42:28Which I'm okay with.
- 42:30I'm okay with saying, hey,
- 42:32I have limited opportunities.
- 42:34And because of all the unknowns,
- 42:36I just need to sign up for
- 42:37everything and figure it out as it goes.
- 42:40I mean,
- 42:40I think Carolyn made that very
- 42:42clear a couple months ago
- 42:43that they would watch.
- 42:46That it was a monetary decision.
- 42:52Yeah, like he'll do Rogue.
- 42:55I think he'll do some WFP
- 42:56and then he can qualify
- 42:58easily for the games online.
- 43:00Like he's one of the best,
- 43:01if not the best.
- 43:04I mean, in person and online.
- 43:06He's great online, though.
- 43:09He's amazing online.
- 43:12The WFP has got to come out
- 43:14with the rest of the
- 43:16details surrounding this with points and.
- 43:20Like I tell you what,
- 43:21if someone like Jeff only
- 43:24does two out of three
- 43:25events and still maintains his pro card,
- 43:28I'm going to be upset,
- 43:29extremely upset with the point system.
- 43:30Like that's not how this should work.
- 43:33Like we need athletes who
- 43:34want to be at all three events.
- 43:36The finals are worth like
- 43:38double or triple points.
- 43:39So I feel like you don't
- 43:40even need to go to all of them.
- 43:41That's ridiculous.
- 43:46We'll see what happens.
- 43:55It seems like that is open
- 43:56for interpretation, Jeff's comments.
- 43:58Yeah.
- 43:58Caroline and I had different
- 44:00interpretations.
- 44:00Yeah,
- 44:01I didn't interpret it the way that
- 44:03everyone else is.
- 44:04I feel like it's taken and
- 44:06maybe just I think it's
- 44:08sometimes it's the language
- 44:09barrier that he has.
- 44:11I don't think that he's
- 44:12saying that he's going to
- 44:13just stop the season.
- 44:16I interpreted it as
- 44:19I don't think people are
- 44:20going to be able to do everything.
- 44:24Go to Europe.
- 44:26Back to back and think that
- 44:27they're doing every single thing.
- 44:29That would be too much.
- 44:31They're going to have to
- 44:33basically pick a little bit
- 44:34more than what they think.
- 44:36That might mean one of their
- 44:38seasons is going to be
- 44:39affected in terms of their performance.
- 44:41And it'll be what it'll be.
- 44:42That's how I interpreted it.
- 44:44I didn't look at it the way
- 44:46that everyone else is looking into it.
- 44:52so then we had this weekend
- 44:53fittest on the coast our
- 44:55very own Jamie Latimer went
- 44:57down and competed on a team
- 44:59she coached two individual
- 45:01athletes no no one I don't
- 45:10even think I would say I
- 45:11coached Jim I mean I was
- 45:12there from all but one
- 45:13event it was an interesting
- 45:19weekend for Jim
- 45:22Okay.
- 45:23I mean, he was in the sixty.
- 45:26It's they only have sixty plus there.
- 45:27And he was there was a lot
- 45:30of sixty year olds.
- 45:31How old is he?
- 45:32Sixty eight.
- 45:35Yeah, he's he was the oldest one there.
- 45:38And it's evident, right?
- 45:39Like they had bar muscle ups.
- 45:41They had handstand walk and
- 45:45not everyone had them.
- 45:46But I mean, he doesn't have them.
- 45:49So like he just, you know.
- 45:51he's at a standstill or he's
- 45:53standing there not working
- 45:54out when it gets to that
- 45:55point of the event.
- 45:56And so, I mean, he was like,
- 46:00I think he was second to
- 46:01last for most of the weekend.
- 46:02And then after the last event, he was,
- 46:04he finished last.
- 46:06I think he would have liked
- 46:06to not finish last, but again,
- 46:08there's just,
- 46:11It's just some mobility
- 46:12stuff that he just doesn't
- 46:13have the capacity to do.
- 46:15And when you get these six-year-olds,
- 46:17to be fair,
- 46:17I think Freddie Cherry
- 46:19podiumed and he's sixty six.
- 46:21I think he was over sixty five.
- 46:24So it's not like only the young guys won.
- 46:27Freddie, who is over sixty five,
- 46:29beat some of the other
- 46:30under sixty five year olds.
- 46:31So congrats to him.
- 46:32But I mean,
- 46:33he has handstand walk and he
- 46:34has bar muscle up.
- 46:36He was awesome.
- 46:39It's still cool to see
- 46:41people that age doing what they do.
- 46:44Yeah.
- 46:46When they have the skill, it's cool.
- 46:48When they're standing around
- 46:49for five minutes just to
- 46:52leap their hands across to
- 46:53get five foot of like,
- 46:55like I didn't like the
- 46:58workout that handstand walk.
- 46:59Cause it was so long.
- 47:02They got the other guys that were like,
- 47:04Jim wasn't even willing to try.
- 47:06Cause it's not worth,
- 47:08falling over and hitting a
- 47:09judge or another athlete or
- 47:11breaking a hip.
- 47:12Um,
- 47:13but a lot of the guys sat there and
- 47:14tried for five, six minutes,
- 47:16and that's a long time to
- 47:17sit there and dry.
- 47:18And when you add the last ten seconds,
- 47:20finally get five feet by
- 47:21jumping your hands across.
- 47:22It's just, eh, that's just, you know,
- 47:27I don't know.
- 47:29That's not showing the skill
- 47:32in my opinion.
- 47:35True.
- 47:38um so I have the leaderboard
- 47:40up for the team which is
- 47:43what you competed in um
- 47:47what are your overall
- 47:48thoughts on the weekend um
- 47:52they did a they did a good
- 47:54job like I mean it's it's a
- 47:55pretty big event there's
- 47:57the two floors running I
- 47:58think they only got off by
- 47:59like ten twelve minutes on
- 48:01one of the days which is
- 48:03kudos to them there's a lot
- 48:04going on I think
- 48:06Things could have been briefed way better.
- 48:08I think judges could have
- 48:09been a little bit more prepared.
- 48:15I think everything was kind of short,
- 48:17and I get it.
- 48:19It seems to be the way these
- 48:20comps are going, and I get it.
- 48:24You have to be really big to
- 48:25make it worthwhile to host,
- 48:27and you have to have all
- 48:27these divisions and all these brackets,
- 48:30and what it ends up doing
- 48:32is cramming stuff into
- 48:34twelve minutes or less.
- 48:36six minute workouts, things like that.
- 48:38Like it's just not my cup of tea really.
- 48:40Um,
- 48:41but I get that's kind of the way of
- 48:45this money-making process.
- 48:49So your women's pro division
- 48:53was pretty stacked with
- 48:55semifinal and masters games athletes.
- 48:58Mm-hmm.
- 49:00Motown Grit won it.
- 49:02Yeah.
- 49:02That is Caroline Klutz and
- 49:03Stevie Dellinger.
- 49:05Stevie won Crash, correct?
- 49:09Yep.
- 49:10And Caroline Klutz has won
- 49:12Crash in the past and other stuff.
- 49:16Long Island's best was
- 49:18Calista Lang and Christine Best.
- 49:20Right.
- 49:22Both friends of the show.
- 49:23Christine Best was on our
- 49:24sponsored team a couple years ago.
- 49:27And Calista Lang was one of
- 49:32our people at Atlas Games
- 49:34along with one Carolyn
- 49:36Prevo a few years back.
- 49:40And then Shark Tank,
- 49:41do you remember that team?
- 49:43Yeah.
- 49:47I cannot recall who was on Shark Tank.
- 49:50Ashley Cope's team?
- 49:53No, she was on Coed.
- 49:55The problem is when I blow it up,
- 49:58it makes it really hard to.
- 50:01Hannah Hardy and Lisa Thomas.
- 50:03Yes.
- 50:04Again, semifinal athlete.
- 50:08So, yeah.
- 50:09So you're up there with a lot of, like,
- 50:11great women.
- 50:12You're with Haley Rolfe,
- 50:14who was a teen games athlete.
- 50:17Is what, nineteen?
- 50:18Yep.
- 50:20You are a Masters athlete.
- 50:23I was the oldest one out there for sure.
- 50:28But you still beat some of
- 50:29the other Masters athletes
- 50:30that are younger than you.
- 50:32Yeah.
- 50:33It was weird.
- 50:34We were tenth going into the
- 50:36last workout and we got
- 50:37seventh on the last workout.
- 50:38And then we finished twelfth.
- 50:40Like, I was like, oh,
- 50:43this one will be decent for us.
- 50:44I was like, we're in tenth.
- 50:46I think maybe we could finish ninth,
- 50:47which was like my goal.
- 50:49And I was like, oh, we got seventh.
- 50:51Great.
- 50:51And then I pulled the
- 50:52leaderboard and it's I think, well,
- 50:54I wasn't certain, but I was like,
- 50:55I think we got like at
- 50:56least eighth in that
- 50:57workout when we finished.
- 50:58And I looked around and I was like, oh,
- 51:00good.
- 51:00This should be good.
- 51:01We dropped to twelfth.
- 51:03Just ridiculous.
- 51:05It must have been close
- 51:06between you guys at the tenth place then.
- 51:08Yeah, I think it was like five points.
- 51:13Yeah.
- 51:14What I'll say is I tried to
- 51:16watch most of the weekend.
- 51:18I watched all of your events.
- 51:20But it really... They never
- 51:23went to your side of the floor.
- 51:25Yeah.
- 51:26Aaron was telling me that too.
- 51:28Um...
- 51:29because you were on one end, um, it,
- 51:32they always seem to start
- 51:34on the other end.
- 51:35They'd walk down halfway and
- 51:37then they turn around.
- 51:40And I was like, are you kidding me now?
- 51:42Brian would say your name.
- 51:44Yeah.
- 51:46But we couldn't see you.
- 51:47Yeah.
- 51:49Uh,
- 51:49so it was a little frustrating as a fan
- 51:52of Jamie and Haley, uh,
- 51:54to try to watch it.
- 51:55Um, uh,
- 51:57But overall,
- 51:58I think they did a good job
- 51:59with the coverage.
- 52:00It's a super wide field.
- 52:04Trying to get everybody in.
- 52:05I tried to watch as much as I could.
- 52:08I even watched a lot of the individual.
- 52:12I thought they did a really good job.
- 52:15And I think like their production,
- 52:17they just got ripped for what a Palooza,
- 52:19but in this setting,
- 52:21the expectations are not
- 52:23where they are for what a Palooza.
- 52:24And I would say that, like,
- 52:26I was very happy with it
- 52:27other than I couldn't see my friend.
- 52:29Yeah.
- 52:30I, yeah, I think Brian did great.
- 52:31I went back and watched one of the events,
- 52:35um,
- 52:36And Aaron had told me that,
- 52:37that we were on one end.
- 52:39So I actually have video of
- 52:41the other three workouts
- 52:42that I'll just put up on my YouTube.
- 52:43It should mostly cover our lane and well,
- 52:47Jim videoed it.
- 52:48So I don't know.
- 52:49I haven't watched it, but I'll upload it.
- 52:52Hopefully it's decent.
- 52:53Yeah.
- 52:55Yeah.
- 52:58I watched a few of the
- 52:59events this weekend sporadically.
- 53:02It was good.
- 53:03Like I thought that Brian
- 53:04did a good job and he would
- 53:06interview some athletes right after.
- 53:09Like I've,
- 53:09I've enjoyed some of the graphics that,
- 53:11that they do showing the
- 53:14workouts and stuff like that.
- 53:15Like,
- 53:16you know, he,
- 53:17he's been doing a ton of competitions and,
- 53:21you know, as, as a fan of the sport,
- 53:23like I, when there's nothing to watch,
- 53:25like on a weekend, I just look in,
- 53:27I'm like, Oh,
- 53:28let's see what's going on here.
- 53:29And it's, and it's,
- 53:30it's great that he has been
- 53:31putting about a bunch of competitions on,
- 53:34on YouTube and,
- 53:35and doing a good job with that.
- 53:37Yeah.
- 53:38I mean, he knows everyone on the floor.
- 53:40He does.
- 53:41It's, it's excellent.
- 53:42Like you're not going to
- 53:43find somebody who's more
- 53:44committed to the athletes and like,
- 53:49I mean, he kudos him.
- 53:49He does a good job.
- 53:50It's for, for me,
- 53:52I'd say it's like to fly out there for,
- 53:54to take the floor four
- 53:55times is I just feel like
- 53:58we needed another event.
- 54:01Like, like I said, like we were in tenth,
- 54:04we took seventh and that's
- 54:05how much the leaderboard
- 54:07was flopping because there
- 54:07wasn't like there needed to
- 54:08be another event.
- 54:09Yeah.
- 54:11The double workouts were,
- 54:14they just didn't do it for me.
- 54:15Yeah.
- 54:16Yeah.
- 54:17um yeah because there were
- 54:20six court events with four
- 54:22times taking the floor
- 54:24correct um so the one thing
- 54:28I will say about brian and
- 54:29I don't usually toot my own
- 54:30horn but because I've
- 54:32interviewed so many
- 54:33semi-final athletes like I
- 54:36know their backstories and
- 54:37I know how to pronounce
- 54:38their names correctly
- 54:40and things like that.
- 54:41That's the only thing that
- 54:42gets to me with Brian,
- 54:43but most people wouldn't know that.
- 54:45Um, it's just,
- 54:46I've interviewed so many of them,
- 54:49but I feel like he normally
- 54:50tries to find out how to say their name.
- 54:53He does.
- 54:53And he does.
- 54:54He, yeah, he does a really good job.
- 54:57Actually.
- 54:58I think of correcting himself if,
- 55:01if he said it wrong and,
- 55:02and like he wants to do
- 55:05like to say the right names.
- 55:06Um, he does.
- 55:08Yeah.
- 55:09When we worked together at Morning Talk Up,
- 55:11we helped each other a lot on that.
- 55:13Yeah, I think he takes a lot of pride in,
- 55:15like, pronouncing and stuff.
- 55:18Yeah.
- 55:22So you wouldn't do it again?
- 55:27I don't know.
- 55:29I feel like maybe if I did it again,
- 55:32I would do both so that, you know.
- 55:35It's more worthwhile for the trip.
- 55:37But then again, you're also,
- 55:38then you're paying.
- 55:41Yeah.
- 55:41Like, I don't, it's like,
- 55:44I don't know what I, what.
- 55:47I don't know.
- 55:47As a non-sponsored athlete and stuff,
- 55:50these competitions are so expensive.
- 55:53It is an expensive hobby.
- 55:54Yes, exactly.
- 55:57Because you're having to travel all over.
- 56:01If you look at most people our age,
- 56:03they're not competing and
- 56:04they're not living this
- 56:05life of going to different
- 56:06competitions and spending
- 56:10one to two thousand dollars
- 56:11just to compete on a weekend.
- 56:12It's just like...
- 56:14It's an expensive hobby.
- 56:16I'm going to say it's a
- 56:17hobby just because like for
- 56:18most of the people that are competing,
- 56:20they have full-time jobs
- 56:21and it's not like they're... Yeah.
- 56:25It's like a non-sponsored podcast.
- 56:28Yeah.
- 56:28Trying to go to events.
- 56:32I feel you.
- 56:33I get why it's popular in that area.
- 56:37That area has a ton of athletes.
- 56:38It's easy for those people to get to.
- 56:40It is not easy for me to get to.
- 56:43Like...
- 56:44Talking,
- 56:44talking to some of the other
- 56:45athletes for me,
- 56:47like I feel like MFC is better run,
- 56:51better competition.
- 56:53And I would of course prefer
- 56:56to go to that.
- 56:56It's a two hour drive for me.
- 56:59I understand why these
- 57:00athletes want to go to this one and not,
- 57:01and not like those athletes
- 57:03that I talked to that were like,
- 57:05I don't know if I'll go back to MFC.
- 57:06It's a little far for me.
- 57:07Yeah.
- 57:08That's exactly how I feel
- 57:09about all your cops.
- 57:11It's,
- 57:12a fourteen-hour drive or a
- 57:13flight and it's not it's
- 57:15not easy that's why I'm
- 57:17very selective on the comp
- 57:19so I do like early on in my
- 57:21CrossFit I was you know
- 57:23just trying to get
- 57:23experience and stuff now
- 57:25I'm like uh I don't really
- 57:27feel like paying this money
- 57:28like can I make it back do
- 57:29I have a shot at making it
- 57:30back because if I don't I'm
- 57:32like I'm good I'll keep
- 57:34working this weekend
- 57:37do my stuff and continue training.
- 57:39Cause it just adds up like the food,
- 57:41the hotel, the flight.
- 57:43And like,
- 57:43there's not really any major constant,
- 57:45like where I live in Toronto,
- 57:47that is worthwhile at all
- 57:49for me to compete.
- 57:49So I always have to travel
- 57:51and it's always out of pocket.
- 57:53And to me, I'm just like,
- 57:56what are the chances I have?
- 57:57Who's competing?
- 57:59Can I make money?
- 58:00No.
- 58:00Okay.
- 58:01I'm good.
- 58:02The odd ones, the odd ones I'll go for, um,
- 58:07for the,
- 58:08if it's an experience and it's like, okay,
- 58:10this is my one big comp of the year.
- 58:11But other than that,
- 58:12it's not something that I
- 58:13can just afford to just do on the regular,
- 58:16like in compete multiple
- 58:17times in the year.
- 58:18Like it's just, it's just too expensive.
- 58:21Yeah.
- 58:22I just, I don't know how else to get,
- 58:25how people are expect
- 58:27people to get experience and exposure.
- 58:29Yeah.
- 58:32We need some sponsors.
- 58:34We need some sponsors.
- 58:39And there's other athletes
- 58:40that have like all these
- 58:40sponsors and I'm like, how?
- 58:43I'm like, where?
- 58:44Like, what are you doing?
- 58:46And like,
- 58:46some of them don't even have that
- 58:47many followers.
- 58:48I'm like, I don't know.
- 58:52last thing I'll say is so
- 58:54many friends of the show
- 58:55competed so many did well
- 58:58so many I don't if I tried
- 59:00to name them I would miss
- 59:01some so I'm just gonna say
- 59:03like we noticed we saw you
- 59:04there so happy for all of
- 59:06you and what you've done um
- 59:10you guys you guys are
- 59:11awesome we we love watching
- 59:13you compete um and I will
- 59:16continue to do so uh next
- 59:19up is it looks like there
- 59:20was a relaunch of the crossfit podcast
- 59:24and there's a trailer on
- 59:25youtube I'm gonna play a
- 59:27little bit of it um not too
- 59:30much because I don't want
- 59:30to get too much copyright
- 59:32infringement or anything um
- 59:34but uh who's running it
- 59:38it's not the same if it's
- 59:39not it looks like it's more
- 59:41affiliate based uh um here
- 59:47we go so here's the trailer
- 59:51of doing this.
- 59:52I want everyone you love doing this,
- 59:54right?
- 59:54Because I just know how well it works.
- 59:56And if you're going to spend time in a gym,
- 59:58there's nothing else I want you doing.
- 1:00:00With people in our community
- 1:00:02who are out there changing,
- 1:00:04and better than that, saving lives.
- 1:00:06The kids,
- 1:00:07they were in quarantine the longest.
- 1:00:10We were seeing diabetes on
- 1:00:11the rise for kids.
- 1:00:13I'm at home and I'm like, you know,
- 1:00:15I've got this experience.
- 1:00:17I've got all of these qualifications.
- 1:00:20I can do this.
- 1:00:22I can.
- 1:00:23Helen Taylor is awesome.
- 1:00:25She's so awesome.
- 1:00:26She's a huge friend of the show,
- 1:00:28speaking of.
- 1:00:30Love her to death.
- 1:00:32So cool that she's on this already.
- 1:00:35Start something in Detroit for the kids.
- 1:00:38Join me as I get to know
- 1:00:40these incredible humans.
- 1:00:42As a scientist and psychiatrist,
- 1:00:44I took this very nerdy
- 1:00:46science cell biology path.
- 1:00:49to get to the conclusions
- 1:00:50that a lot of you already know.
- 1:00:52Go do CrossFit.
- 1:00:53Together,
- 1:00:54their stories are the story of CrossFit.
- 1:00:56And I saw that with my
- 1:00:57training with my brothers.
- 1:00:58At a point,
- 1:00:59they were able to beat me in a workout.
- 1:01:02And I did not like that.
- 1:01:03But I can tell you this.
- 1:01:05It made me a better athlete.
- 1:01:08So, go check out the trailer.
- 1:01:11It's on the CrossFit YouTube channel.
- 1:01:15It's the new CrossFit podcast.
- 1:01:18Is that on their tree?
- 1:01:20They're like their new
- 1:01:22channel with all the like
- 1:01:24coaching tips and all that.
- 1:01:26It's just on the cross.
- 1:01:27See right here.
- 1:01:28I don't know if you can see it.
- 1:01:29I'll blow it up.
- 1:01:30See, just cross on their main one.
- 1:01:32Okay.
- 1:01:33Cause I think the training
- 1:01:34one is just for like
- 1:01:36educational technical stuff.
- 1:01:39This one is just their main one.
- 1:01:41Yeah.
- 1:01:42So Denise is the host.
- 1:01:44It appears.
- 1:01:45It looks like it.
- 1:01:46Yeah.
- 1:01:48I got to meet her at an
- 1:01:50affiliate gathering in the
- 1:01:51Southwest of Ohio.
- 1:01:54She in person has so much freaking energy.
- 1:01:57It is insane.
- 1:02:01Just one of those people you
- 1:02:02meet and you're like,
- 1:02:03I got to be around this
- 1:02:04person because she is awesome.
- 1:02:07Yeah.
- 1:02:08I met her at the games in
- 1:02:09twenty twenty three and she
- 1:02:10was one of my favorites there for sure.
- 1:02:13Yeah.
- 1:02:14So check that out.
- 1:02:16Subscribe if you want.
- 1:02:20also another thing that
- 1:02:21dropped on youtube is a new
- 1:02:24video about uh rebecca
- 1:02:26voight-miller and you know
- 1:02:29the masters athletes are so
- 1:02:31near and dear to me um this
- 1:02:33is about crossfit doesn't
- 1:02:34have to end and the title
- 1:02:36of the video as it goes on
- 1:02:37is actually from legend to
- 1:02:39longevity I love it
- 1:02:42And it talks about how the
- 1:02:44way she looks at CrossFit now is not,
- 1:02:49she goes and competes
- 1:02:50because she wants to show
- 1:02:51people what's possible,
- 1:02:53but it's really about like
- 1:02:55how to sustain her life.
- 1:02:57And she talks about seeing
- 1:02:59the seventy plus out there
- 1:03:02busting their tail at the
- 1:03:03games and being in the
- 1:03:05corral with them and
- 1:03:07hearing them talk about how they want to
- 1:03:11Show people show off their
- 1:03:12bodies and show off what
- 1:03:14they can do at seventy plus years old.
- 1:03:18It's a great, great video.
- 1:03:21A little behind the scenes
- 1:03:23or behind the curtain is
- 1:03:25Mariah Moore did that one.
- 1:03:28And I was with her at the
- 1:03:29Masters CrossFit Games and
- 1:03:31was filming with her in the
- 1:03:33back at the same time I was
- 1:03:36doing my behind the scenes.
- 1:03:38She was doing this as well
- 1:03:40as a couple others.
- 1:03:43And she's awesome.
- 1:03:46And the story of this one is so good.
- 1:03:50Highly, highly recommend.
- 1:03:54So.
- 1:03:55again on that same crossfit
- 1:03:57uh youtube page yep yep
- 1:04:02that's good it looks like
- 1:04:03they're pulling their media
- 1:04:04together a little bit yeah
- 1:04:07it's about time like again
- 1:04:09more optimism like if this
- 1:04:11stuff is if they're
- 1:04:12changing in this direction
- 1:04:14and they're going to
- 1:04:14continue these changes like
- 1:04:16I'm all in for that the one
- 1:04:20thing yeah never mind we
- 1:04:22won't get on that we'll do
- 1:04:23that another night um
- 1:04:27Elisa Fuliano announced that
- 1:04:28she is saying no to both
- 1:04:30the CrossFit Games season
- 1:04:31and the WFP season,
- 1:04:33that she has lost her love
- 1:04:40for the sport and is really
- 1:04:44just training for her now.
- 1:04:50Okay.
- 1:04:50She's going to do the French
- 1:04:51Throwdown and the Wadland Fest as well.
- 1:04:59So she's just going to
- 1:04:59compete in Europe when she feels, um,
- 1:05:04she's one of my favorite CrossFitters.
- 1:05:07I say that a lot, but, um,
- 1:05:09she fights rheumatoid arthritis.
- 1:05:11She has a limited expiration
- 1:05:15date on this career because of that.
- 1:05:17Um, and.
- 1:05:20can't do it while you're
- 1:05:21miserable right like uh you
- 1:05:24got to do it for the love
- 1:05:25of it so um because what
- 1:05:27she does to keep her body
- 1:05:28moving um it's got to be
- 1:05:31worth it right in the end
- 1:05:33if you're not happy no
- 1:05:35point in doing it I didn't
- 1:05:38see anything that she wrote
- 1:05:40maybe I missed it for the
- 1:05:42wfp that she wasn't doing
- 1:05:43that I just saw the the game season but
- 1:05:47I didn't see it particularly
- 1:05:49the address too.
- 1:05:50So I saw it on barbells.
- 1:05:51Yeah, I saw it there,
- 1:05:53but I didn't see it in her
- 1:05:55particular post.
- 1:05:56And then I saw her talk at
- 1:05:58water Palooza in something.
- 1:06:00Okay.
- 1:06:01Um, and then, uh,
- 1:06:03and she talked at water
- 1:06:04Palooza about not being,
- 1:06:06just not being happy with
- 1:06:09the training for the season.
- 1:06:10Okay.
- 1:06:14So,
- 1:06:18don't know yeah we'll leave
- 1:06:21tonight with this and this
- 1:06:22was something I pondered
- 1:06:23last week on my lunch with
- 1:06:24the clydesdale I was there
- 1:06:26was so much debate last
- 1:06:27week about josh allen
- 1:06:29winning the mvp in the nfl
- 1:06:32over lamar jackson my one
- 1:06:35beef with the super bowl
- 1:06:36was that I didn't think
- 1:06:37jalen hurt should have won
- 1:06:38the mvp I thought it should
- 1:06:40have been a defensive player
- 1:06:42that Philadelphia's defense
- 1:06:44truly was the reason they won that game,
- 1:06:46and someone from the
- 1:06:47defense should have won the MVP.
- 1:06:51But nay-nay, nobody listens to me anyway.
- 1:06:53I think it's your point there.
- 1:06:58So I thought about, like,
- 1:06:59if CrossFit did a season-long MVP,
- 1:07:05there wouldn't even be
- 1:07:05competing to pick the female MVP.
- 1:07:13for the last several years
- 1:07:14other than the time she
- 1:07:15took off for pregnancy.
- 1:07:17But in the men's,
- 1:07:19if you did betting before the season,
- 1:07:22I bet you less than one
- 1:07:24percent of the community
- 1:07:25would have bet that James
- 1:07:31Sprague would have been the
- 1:07:32MVP for the year.
- 1:07:34And looking back at the season,
- 1:07:36with a games win and a Waterpalooza win,
- 1:07:40he has a pretty strong case
- 1:07:41to be the MVP.
- 1:07:44would say he is others may
- 1:07:46argue otherwise for sure
- 1:07:49but I but I think he's in
- 1:07:51the argument for sure I
- 1:07:53think he's in the argument
- 1:07:54I think brent had also a
- 1:07:56very good season that you
- 1:07:58couldn't ignore and based
- 1:07:59off the what is it the
- 1:08:01apollo rankings I mean he
- 1:08:04was number one yep so
- 1:08:08that's based off a bunch of
- 1:08:09head to heads that they
- 1:08:10were together all year and
- 1:08:11their experience.
- 1:08:12So I think that's a valuable
- 1:08:14leaderboard there,
- 1:08:16but it also favors people
- 1:08:17that just compete a lot just in general.
- 1:08:19So you got to compete a lot
- 1:08:21to get your ranking up
- 1:08:22because if you don't and you're selective,
- 1:08:25then even if you win, it doesn't matter.
- 1:08:28Right.
- 1:08:30But for everything like, and,
- 1:08:32and we don't need to,
- 1:08:33maybe we can get into it.
- 1:08:34I don't know.
- 1:08:35Like Craig says, Jason had a great season.
- 1:08:38For every great event Jason had,
- 1:08:41James was better.
- 1:08:44Right.
- 1:08:45The only one that James was off was Rogue.
- 1:08:48Right.
- 1:08:48Coming off Pneumonia.
- 1:08:50Correct.
- 1:08:53Other than that, James was better.
- 1:08:54Agree.
- 1:08:59And you could say that Brent
- 1:09:01had a better Rogue.
- 1:09:05But he didn't even compete
- 1:09:06in Waterpalooza.
- 1:09:10But I would say that Rogue
- 1:09:11was a much better test than Waterpalooza.
- 1:09:15Waterpalooza has only six events as well.
- 1:09:16I don't think that's a full test.
- 1:09:25Semantics, man.
- 1:09:26We're just having a fun discussion.
- 1:09:30And it wouldn't be MVP.
- 1:09:31It'd be more just a ranking system.
- 1:09:33Who's ranked number one.
- 1:09:35Maybe it would be the better
- 1:09:35word than MVP.
- 1:09:38I'm trying to think of what, yeah,
- 1:09:41it would just be a ranking
- 1:09:42or a champion player of the
- 1:09:43year or athlete of the year.
- 1:09:48I should say.
- 1:09:49Right.
- 1:09:51Especially in sports that
- 1:09:52have a lot of different
- 1:09:54things you can win.
- 1:09:56Right.
- 1:09:56Yeah.
- 1:10:00But I just thought about that.
- 1:10:04He really came out of nowhere.
- 1:10:09Yes or no?
- 1:10:14Yeah.
- 1:10:14He way exceeded expectations.
- 1:10:16He exceeded expectations for sure.
- 1:10:18Because I think people would
- 1:10:19have put some money on Dillon.
- 1:10:22Maybe even Jason.
- 1:10:25You're not really thinking that.
- 1:10:28Yeah, I had James Moore around the
- 1:10:30Tenth place at the games, like,
- 1:10:32ten to twelve.
- 1:10:34At best, I had him, like, eighth, I think,
- 1:10:37in, like, a ranking.
- 1:10:38Like, if everything goes well,
- 1:10:39maybe eighth.
- 1:10:41I don't think people would
- 1:10:42have put Brent high.
- 1:10:46He's always literally by the podium.
- 1:10:48To be, like, the best for the year.
- 1:10:52he's always kind of outdone
- 1:10:53by Pat and by Madera and by like,
- 1:10:57you can list off all these
- 1:10:58that we didn't know Roman
- 1:10:59was going to be hurt all year.
- 1:11:00We didn't like, he had an underwhelming.
- 1:11:03I think a lot of people
- 1:11:04would have put their money
- 1:11:05on Ricky at the beginning of the year.
- 1:11:06Yeah.
- 1:11:06Yeah.
- 1:11:10It just, and what I,
- 1:11:13what I think is awesome is
- 1:11:14it shows you the potential
- 1:11:16for how good the men's
- 1:11:17division can be for years.
- 1:11:19Yeah.
- 1:11:21Because someone that we
- 1:11:22didn't even think about as
- 1:11:24being the best athlete this year came out,
- 1:11:28okay, not out of nowhere,
- 1:11:29came out of the teens in
- 1:11:34the ranking or ten in the
- 1:11:35ranking to possibly win it.
- 1:11:39Brent, probably the same thing.
- 1:11:40Lower tens to teens and to win it.
- 1:11:45And you have so many people
- 1:11:47in the list that could beat
- 1:11:49them on any given day.
- 1:11:53which I think makes it
- 1:11:55incredible for what could
- 1:11:57happen in the upcoming seasons.
- 1:12:06Yeah.
- 1:12:06And CrossFit says both Brent
- 1:12:08and James are athletes.
- 1:12:09We normally felt we're programming,
- 1:12:10rely it for their finish.
- 1:12:12I feel less that way than I
- 1:12:14did going into the season.
- 1:12:19Yeah, I agree.
- 1:12:21I think confidence is a big thing too,
- 1:12:23right?
- 1:12:23Like in competition,
- 1:12:24like your mental state.
- 1:12:27And I think James right now
- 1:12:28is very confident.
- 1:12:29And, um, when you compete that way,
- 1:12:32I think, you know, you,
- 1:12:34you can go pretty far.
- 1:12:38Yeah.
- 1:12:41It was just an,
- 1:12:41it was just a thought I had
- 1:12:43that I thought would be fun discussion.
- 1:12:49But yeah, I'm just,
- 1:12:52I'm really happy for James
- 1:12:54because it could have been like,
- 1:12:55I think the Waterpalooza win was huge.
- 1:12:58I agree.
- 1:13:00To go from games champion
- 1:13:05that nobody really gave the credit to,
- 1:13:07to get that validation at
- 1:13:08Waterpalooza was pretty cool.
- 1:13:10And I know it wasn't a full field,
- 1:13:12but still he dominated Waterpalooza.
- 1:13:18One first, four seconds,
- 1:13:21and then the lift.
- 1:13:23Yeah, he had a great event.
- 1:13:30But with that,
- 1:13:32you guys got anything else for this week?
- 1:13:34It was a bunch of quick hitters.
- 1:13:38We're coming up on the open.
- 1:13:40Things are going to start
- 1:13:41getting hot and heavy here soon.
- 1:13:48yes only we're already
- 1:13:50february tenth it's going
- 1:13:51by fast it's going too fast
- 1:13:56yeah valentine's week I
- 1:13:59think there's some
- 1:13:59qualifiers this week too
- 1:14:01for one of the events uh
- 1:14:06which one one of the
- 1:14:11european ones I believe is
- 1:14:13it french throwdown that
- 1:14:14they have their qualifiers this week
- 1:14:20I forget.
- 1:14:22Do you guys know?
- 1:14:23I don't know.
- 1:14:25That's not my region.
- 1:14:27The French Throwdown
- 1:14:28qualifiers begin February twelfth,
- 1:14:33February eighteenth,
- 1:14:34and then February twenty-third.
- 1:14:37Okay.
- 1:14:38So, for the people doing that one.
- 1:14:41That's every Wednesday for
- 1:14:42the next three weeks.
- 1:14:45Until the open, right?
- 1:14:46Yeah.
- 1:14:47Yeah.
- 1:14:49I think in the French
- 1:14:50Throwdown was one of the
- 1:14:51ones that was half the
- 1:14:52field invited and half the
- 1:14:55field was qualified.
- 1:14:58That's qualified.
- 1:14:59Gotcha.
- 1:15:03Greg's asking, is Mayhem sold out?
- 1:15:06I don't know if tickets were on sale,
- 1:15:08to be honest.
- 1:15:11That's right.
- 1:15:12They were going to do Mayhem
- 1:15:13affiliates first.
- 1:15:15And that'll probably sell it out.
- 1:15:19I feel like they should be
- 1:15:20releasing tickets way
- 1:15:22earlier than they do.
- 1:15:23I think that competitions
- 1:15:24would do better if they
- 1:15:25released stuff earlier.
- 1:15:28I know more information
- 1:15:31released tickets this week.
- 1:15:33Okay.
- 1:15:33Early bird special, uh,
- 1:15:35to get the cheapest price as possible.
- 1:15:37Even like the open,
- 1:15:39like they could do a discount.
- 1:15:40Like if you want to pay
- 1:15:41right now for open and community event.
- 1:15:47Yeah.
- 1:15:48That's how you get like, you know,
- 1:15:49you get a. Ten dollar off
- 1:15:52or five dollar off.
- 1:15:54I think you do these bonuses
- 1:15:56and you already get your commitment.
- 1:15:57You already have your you
- 1:15:58start seeing the picture of.
- 1:16:01I think with syndicate,
- 1:16:02if you do the community event,
- 1:16:04your admissions free.
- 1:16:06OK, cool.
- 1:16:06Yeah,
- 1:16:06I think I remember them doing that in
- 1:16:08the past.
- 1:16:10Yeah, it should be.
- 1:16:10Yeah.
- 1:16:11Yeah.
- 1:16:13And I thought it was cool
- 1:16:14how they did it last year.
- 1:16:16with the community event
- 1:16:17outside in the vendor village.
- 1:16:21I thought their vendor
- 1:16:22village was the best I saw
- 1:16:24during the season last year.
- 1:16:34I thought vendor village at
- 1:16:36Fittest of the Coast was
- 1:16:38pretty well done.
- 1:16:40The setup in there was nice.
- 1:16:42I probably should have taken
- 1:16:44some video for you
- 1:16:46But they had several vendors there.
- 1:16:49You were too busy getting sun in the sand.
- 1:16:52I was trying to sit outside in the sun.
- 1:16:54That is true.
- 1:16:55I feel like a lot of the
- 1:16:56competitions I've been at
- 1:16:58the last few years,
- 1:17:00they have a lot of vendors,
- 1:17:01but I feel like they're not
- 1:17:03very busy when I look at them.
- 1:17:07Yeah, I would be curious.
- 1:17:07Have you guys felt like
- 1:17:09there's just been less of
- 1:17:10an interest to buy because
- 1:17:11people just have so much stuff?
- 1:17:13Yeah.
- 1:17:14I sometimes I feel for some
- 1:17:15of the vendors that are
- 1:17:16there and I'm like, Oh,
- 1:17:17I feel like you spent so much money.
- 1:17:18So sometimes I'm like, okay,
- 1:17:19I need to go spend because like, yeah,
- 1:17:21I feel bad that they made all this trip,
- 1:17:23but I don't know if they're
- 1:17:24doing as well as they were
- 1:17:25like many years ago.
- 1:17:28You know, we actually,
- 1:17:29Jamie and I talked about this, gosh,
- 1:17:32probably at legends maybe a
- 1:17:34couple years ago where like,
- 1:17:36I think some vendors are so
- 1:17:40CrossFit zoned in that,
- 1:17:43that once people buy the thing,
- 1:17:47they don't come back for the thing,
- 1:17:49right?
- 1:17:49And other vendors make their
- 1:17:52stuff more widespread.
- 1:17:56And where that came into
- 1:17:57play at Legends is you're
- 1:17:58on the Arizona State University campus.
- 1:18:02If your apparel focused on CrossFit only,
- 1:18:07people walked by and didn't
- 1:18:08know what it was.
- 1:18:10If your apparel focused
- 1:18:12spoke to things outside the
- 1:18:14space but just like fitness
- 1:18:16in general or people then
- 1:18:19going to the gym to work
- 1:18:20out were like hey fitness
- 1:18:22boom boom I'm gonna buy
- 1:18:23that those vendors did much
- 1:18:26better than the crossfit
- 1:18:28isolated vendors like you
- 1:18:32take barbell voodoo
- 1:18:35Just someone we don't know
- 1:18:37someone we don't have any
- 1:18:39affiliation with.
- 1:18:40They do those funny t-shirts
- 1:18:42with like the golden girls flexing or, um,
- 1:18:46the office with prison,
- 1:18:48Michael benching on the
- 1:18:51bench with Dwight spotting them.
- 1:18:54Like those translate outside
- 1:18:56the CrossFit space.
- 1:18:57Right.
- 1:19:00Right.
- 1:19:03And I think that that is a
- 1:19:05great lesson when you're a vendor.
- 1:19:07Just because you're
- 1:19:09associated with CrossFit
- 1:19:10and you do CrossFit doesn't
- 1:19:12mean that your business
- 1:19:13should be solely focused on that.
- 1:19:15Yeah.
- 1:19:23And I think the other thing
- 1:19:24I learned is Masters athletes don't share,
- 1:19:28don't buy, don't.
- 1:19:33yeah I thought the masters
- 1:19:35athletes were the ones that
- 1:19:36were buying before but I
- 1:19:38think they know how to do
- 1:19:39it cheaper now yeah well
- 1:19:42that's sort of the problem
- 1:19:43like unless you're gonna be
- 1:19:46a vendor and have like a
- 1:19:47discount at these events
- 1:19:52for one like I had to fly
- 1:19:54here fly here like I
- 1:19:55couldn't buy anything I
- 1:19:57didn't have any room to get
- 1:19:58any get anything home so
- 1:20:02mean there would have had to
- 1:20:02been like an enticing
- 1:20:04reason or a very small item
- 1:20:05like I I like I have that
- 1:20:09stuff I have all the shirts
- 1:20:12I want I have all the grips
- 1:20:14that I want like unless
- 1:20:16there was like a fifty
- 1:20:17percent off a grip that I
- 1:20:19needed to replace I'm
- 1:20:20probably not buying it I'll just
- 1:20:23I'm just going to wait.
- 1:20:24I'll get it shipped to my, to myself.
- 1:20:26Like that.
- 1:20:27That's the thing right there.
- 1:20:28I feel like if there's even
- 1:20:30a small discount, I'm like more,
- 1:20:32I'm more inclined to go buy
- 1:20:33it just because, or also my, okay,
- 1:20:35I'll just buy it down the road online.
- 1:20:37And then sometimes I'm like, Oh,
- 1:20:38down the road, I've, I don't buy it,
- 1:20:40you know?
- 1:20:41Right.
- 1:20:41But if I was there and I'm like, Oh,
- 1:20:42there's, there's like, Oh, there's like,
- 1:20:43Oh, there's like, Oh, there's like, Oh,
- 1:20:44there's like, Oh, there's like, Oh,
- 1:20:45there's like, Oh, there's like, Oh,
- 1:20:45there's like, Oh, there's like, Oh,
- 1:20:46there's like, Oh, there's like, Oh,
- 1:20:47there's like, Oh, there's like, Oh,
- 1:20:48there's like, Oh, there's like, Oh,
- 1:20:48there's like, Oh, there's like, Oh,
- 1:20:49there's like
- 1:20:49But now I'm like,
- 1:20:50it's going to be cheaper
- 1:20:51here than online.
- 1:20:52But if it's not going to be
- 1:20:52cheaper here than online,
- 1:20:53people are going to wait.
- 1:20:54And then that person just
- 1:20:56wasted their trip and their
- 1:20:57money to put their, their stuff there.
- 1:21:02Yep.
- 1:21:03Look at thick boy.
- 1:21:04Thick boy takes merchandise
- 1:21:05that he does not sell on
- 1:21:06his website that you can
- 1:21:09only get in person.
- 1:21:09And I think that's smart.
- 1:21:12Right.
- 1:21:14And he's not like,
- 1:21:16he's not zeroed in on just CrossFit only.
- 1:21:20I think that helps him.
- 1:21:23Yeah,
- 1:21:23he does really well whenever he is a
- 1:21:26vendor.
- 1:21:29I just think some of the other products,
- 1:21:31I don't know.
- 1:21:35I guess I don't even look anymore.
- 1:21:36I used to, but like I said,
- 1:21:39I usually have my knee sleeves there.
- 1:21:42I feel like at Legends,
- 1:21:44someone needed knee sleeves or something,
- 1:21:47and there actually weren't any.
- 1:21:50Anywhere.
- 1:21:51It was like, it was just a weird year.
- 1:21:53Like, I don't know.
- 1:21:54Yeah.
- 1:21:57Well, you know what, what's funny is,
- 1:22:01and then there's all these
- 1:22:01contractual things, right?
- 1:22:03That they're sponsors of the
- 1:22:04event and yet you're a vendor,
- 1:22:06but you're not that.
- 1:22:08So like,
- 1:22:09I remember when I first met Gabe
- 1:22:11at paper street coffee and I said,
- 1:22:13can I buy coffee?
- 1:22:14And he goes, I'm not allowed to sell it,
- 1:22:16but if you buy this sticker,
- 1:22:17I'll give you one for free.
- 1:22:18Right.
- 1:22:22And that's how he had to do
- 1:22:24it because he wasn't allowed to,
- 1:22:28to sell because they had an
- 1:22:30official coffee of that event.
- 1:22:37Yeah.
- 1:22:37We're just,
- 1:22:37we're robbing Peter to pay Paul.
- 1:22:40Like the, the,
- 1:22:41the competitions need sponsors.
- 1:22:43The athletes need sponsors,
- 1:22:45the media needs sponsors,
- 1:22:47and we're just robbing each
- 1:22:49other of those opportunities.
- 1:22:55which is really hard.
- 1:22:57Yep.
- 1:22:57But I think the competitions
- 1:22:58could like sometimes do a
- 1:23:00better job of promoting
- 1:23:01their vendors or placing
- 1:23:04them in better positions or
- 1:23:06reminding people to go and
- 1:23:07shop just different things like that too,
- 1:23:09just because it is tough on the vendors,
- 1:23:12right?
- 1:23:12And like these vendors do
- 1:23:13help these competitions
- 1:23:15then give back to the athletes.
- 1:23:17And so it needs to work both ways.
- 1:23:20Like if we as athletes want
- 1:23:21better competitions,
- 1:23:22like we have to go and
- 1:23:23support these vendors, right?
- 1:23:25Because they're the ones
- 1:23:26paying for a spot there at
- 1:23:27the venue to help the competition grow.
- 1:23:30But if we're not buying anything,
- 1:23:33it's a lose-lose because
- 1:23:35then there's going to be less vendors,
- 1:23:37less people want to go,
- 1:23:38less money to give to the athletes.
- 1:23:42So I think that we just have
- 1:23:42to help each other.
- 1:23:45So last year at Syndicate...
- 1:23:48Rad was not allowed to be on
- 1:23:50the premises because they
- 1:23:54go rock was there or somebody like that.
- 1:23:57Um,
- 1:23:58but they pulled a van into the parking
- 1:24:00garage across the street,
- 1:24:02put out on their social media.
- 1:24:03Hey,
- 1:24:04we're going to come sell our shoes out
- 1:24:07of the back of this van.
- 1:24:09And they actually like that
- 1:24:10beat that gorilla marketing
- 1:24:12became pretty popular because
- 1:24:14When Jamie and I were going
- 1:24:15to our car the one night,
- 1:24:16the line for that van was huge.
- 1:24:21So you just have to get creative too.
- 1:24:28I mean,
- 1:24:28you remember the Nike driving the
- 1:24:30trucks around Carson when
- 1:24:35they were told they
- 1:24:36couldn't come in because
- 1:24:37Reebok was a sponsor and
- 1:24:38they bought the big
- 1:24:40billboard trucks and just
- 1:24:42drove continuously around the venue.
- 1:24:48so yeah fun stuff it's fun
- 1:24:52stuff to talk about well
- 1:24:54guys next week we'll be
- 1:24:55back to our normally
- 1:24:56scheduled sunday night time
- 1:24:59um leading up to the open
- 1:25:01and with that it's been fun

- 1:25:05subscribe to the channel
- 1:25:07hit that notifier so you
