- 0:00Speaker 1: Time, blindness and other musings. It's one more thing. I'm
- 0:04Speaker 1: strong and Getty one more thing. So we got onto
- 0:12Speaker 1: the topic of stretching on the Armstrong and Getty Show today.
- 0:15Speaker 1: Joe's a big advocate of it, and it just obviously
- 0:18Speaker 1: is a good idea and everybody should be doing it.
- 0:21Speaker 1: And I don't know how it hasn't become part of
- 0:23Speaker 1: our national hygiene in terms of things we talk about
- 0:26Speaker 1: with kids all the time. Don't smoke, stay out of
- 0:29Speaker 1: the sun, and stretch. It's ad stretch to that.
- 0:33Speaker 2: Yeah, I think it's because kids hardly need to, and
- 0:38Speaker 2: you just the need grows as you get older. And
- 0:41Speaker 2: our our median culture, so you know, have been so
- 0:44Speaker 2: oriented towards stuff for young people.
- 0:46Speaker 1: I don't know, if you play any sports even when
- 0:48Speaker 1: you're young, these they have you stretch all the time.
- 0:51Speaker 3: But I remember them telling me to stretch, and me
- 0:53Speaker 3: stretching and feeling nothing and wondering why I was doing right.
- 0:57Speaker 1: That's funny watching my niece, who was an athlete stretched
- 0:59Speaker 1: all the time. She got like put both head leg
- 1:01Speaker 1: feet behind her head and stuff like, it's like, what
- 1:03Speaker 1: are you stretching exactly? You seemed to be rubber, but
- 1:08Speaker 1: we got this text about it. I thought it was
- 1:09Speaker 1: interesting stretching. What's your cat or dog the first thing
- 1:12Speaker 1: they do when they wake up his stretch, Well, you
- 1:15Speaker 1: ends up big brains. Apparently overcame that. Yeah, most animals
- 1:18Speaker 1: that they do that regularly, they stretch. I'm flexible and
- 1:22Speaker 1: I'm not a cat. So since we got on the
- 1:26Speaker 1: topic of stretching, I brought up the story of being
- 1:28Speaker 1: at a farmer's market with my kids and this dude
- 1:32Speaker 1: walked in front of me in sunglasses, did the splits
- 1:35Speaker 1: down to the ground, pulled a can out of his backpack,
- 1:40Speaker 1: opened it up, and started eating eggs out of a can.
- 1:43Speaker 2: Canned eggs.
- 1:45Speaker 4: A delicacy.
- 1:47Speaker 1: And I don't know if he like put the eggs
- 1:50Speaker 1: in a can, or if you can buy canned eggs
- 1:51Speaker 1: or what. He was prepared for this little thing. And
- 1:53Speaker 1: it was very odd, and my kids were like, Dad,
- 1:55Speaker 1: what's going on here? And I didn't know, and eventually
- 1:57Speaker 1: we walked away. Then I googled it and it turned
- 1:59Speaker 1: out it was like TikTok craze or something in my
- 2:01Speaker 1: town or something. Anyway, a guy goes around doing the
- 2:04Speaker 1: splits in front of people and eating canned eggs to
- 2:06Speaker 1: get in a reaction. Somebody else films it. I don't know.
- 2:08Speaker 3: Katie's done a little research on this. He is the
- 2:12Speaker 3: lone trend master. Okay, he's splits and the eggs. He's
- 2:15Speaker 3: the only guy doing it. He is the only guy
- 2:18Speaker 3: doing it, and he is known as split Man, according
- 2:21Speaker 3: to this reddit thrill. I've gone through way too much
- 2:24Speaker 3: to get to these answers, but here we go. He's
- 2:27Speaker 3: known as the split Man. Apparently he is a theater
- 2:31Speaker 3: major who's taking classes at Davis.
- 2:35Speaker 1: He's an engineer major. You said he's going to be
- 2:37Speaker 1: an engineer. He's this theater major.
- 2:40Speaker 3: Theater major. And this is not being videoed. He is
- 2:45Speaker 3: doing this at random. Apparently he has been going up
- 2:49Speaker 3: in front of the professor and the econ classes that
- 2:52Speaker 3: he's taking and interrupts the lectures by dropping into the splits.
- 2:56Speaker 4: That dude has weird vibes.
- 2:58Speaker 3: I was grocery shopping the other day, dropped down in
- 3:00Speaker 3: front of me and.
- 3:01Speaker 4: Did the splits.
- 3:02Speaker 3: Yeah, but we are talking about the same guy because
- 3:06Speaker 3: someone posted a photo of the flat earth booth that
- 3:10Speaker 3: you were referring to and said that they saw him
- 3:12Speaker 3: do it.
- 3:13Speaker 4: Right in front of that boot.
- 3:14Speaker 1: Okay, that was probably the day I was there.
- 3:16Speaker 3: Yeah, but so this is not being videoed.
- 3:20Speaker 4: He is doing this.
- 3:21Speaker 1: For fund say, you know, I appreciate that as a purist.
- 3:23Speaker 1: He's not trying to, you know, just get clicks on TikTok.
- 3:28Speaker 1: He minds it. He's so many little.
- 3:30Speaker 2: They just you know, they start out as an idealistic
- 3:34Speaker 2: split egg eating person, but then they're seduced by the
- 3:39Speaker 2: money in the fame, right, and it's not art anymore.
- 3:42Speaker 2: They sell out, right, Yeah, exactly before you know, if
- 3:45Speaker 2: they're doing splits and eating cand eggs for the man.
- 3:48Speaker 3: Jack, someone suggested here that the polite thing to do
- 3:51Speaker 3: in that situation is to also drop and do the
- 3:53Speaker 3: splits with him, so he's not alone.
- 3:55Speaker 1: Roy. There'd be some cracking and screaming if I did that.
- 3:57Speaker 2: Oh my god, I can't imagine.
- 4:00Speaker 4: So anyway, there there's an answer there. I can't find
- 4:02Speaker 4: a video of you, but he's known.
- 4:05Speaker 1: That's interesting. It is it is. It is a DoD
- 4:11Speaker 1: do like art, warhole like art. Huh.
- 4:16Speaker 3: Grant you that a lot of people are surprised by
- 4:18Speaker 3: his stature. They're saying they were surprised to be able
- 4:21Speaker 3: to see a man of his size wearing jeans able
- 4:23Speaker 3: to drop down into the splits.
- 4:25Speaker 1: So so they noticed the same thing I did. He's
- 4:27Speaker 1: not the body type you generally expect out of somebody
- 4:30Speaker 1: who can immediately drop to the ground and do the splits.
- 4:32Speaker 1: And he's wear geens.
- 4:33Speaker 4: People are saying, this guy's the reason I carry a taser.
- 4:36Speaker 1: No, he seems completely harmless. It's just odd.
- 4:40Speaker 2: Oh that's powder. I'm looking on Amazon to figure out
- 4:44Speaker 2: if I could buy canned eggs.
- 4:47Speaker 1: He put him out of his backpacket. May have been
- 4:49Speaker 1: a he has a can and he puts eggs in it.
- 4:53Speaker 4: Oh, no, I'm looking. There's canned quail eggs.
- 4:55Speaker 2: Yeah, that's what I'm seeing.
- 4:56Speaker 1: Yeah, that was weird. Good for well, split man. Here's
- 5:02Speaker 1: to you. I hope I made you a little more famous.
- 5:04Speaker 3: I mean, I know eggs are expensive, but I don't
- 5:06Speaker 3: know that I would ever go to the canned egg
- 5:08Speaker 3: option afing those hard boiled eggs that are in plastic.
- 5:12Speaker 4: For some reason, if.
- 5:12Speaker 1: I remember correctly, it was a hot day and he
- 5:14Speaker 1: was wearing a sweater also, so he didn't jeans a
- 5:16Speaker 1: sweater eating canned eggs, doing the splits in the middle
- 5:19Speaker 1: of the crowd, and everybody else was just ignoring him.
- 5:21Speaker 1: Me and my kids were staring straight at him, like,
- 5:24Speaker 1: what z hell.
- 5:26Speaker 2: He's so headed for homelessness or something something great.
- 5:31Speaker 1: I'm predicting something great. I see greatness in this man's eyes.
- 5:36Speaker 1: I couldn't see his eyes.
- 5:36Speaker 3: He was wearing sunglasses, eating canned eggs well in the
- 5:40Speaker 3: splits in the middle of.
- 5:41Speaker 1: A farmer's market. You know, I'm gonna keep stretching and
- 5:43Speaker 1: if I can join him, there'll be the two of
- 5:45Speaker 1: us drop down on both sides.
- 5:46Speaker 4: You dream big.
- 5:50Speaker 1: And I'll have a nutcracker and some walnuts. It'll be
- 5:53Speaker 1: my act.
- 5:55Speaker 2: I was just gonna say, if you were to be
- 5:59Speaker 2: inspired by him and inflict your own data ist arc
- 6:03Speaker 2: on the on the populace, what would you go with?
- 6:07Speaker 2: I mean what I mean, because as what the f
- 6:11Speaker 2: is he doing? Acts? Go, that's that's pretty good.
- 6:15Speaker 1: Yeah. I don't really believe in data style art. The original,
- 6:18Speaker 1: most famous one was the Urinal. Was a picture of
- 6:22Speaker 1: a urinal, or was an actual urinal. It took a
- 6:25Speaker 1: France and New York by storm. I just that sort
- 6:28Speaker 1: of crap. I just I have no appreciation for whatsoever whatever. Okay,
- 6:33Speaker 1: so it's way different than nobody ever expected a urinal
- 6:35Speaker 1: could be art. Yeah, you're right for a reason, because
- 6:38Speaker 1: it's not. Because it's not. Yeah, well do you.
- 6:41Speaker 3: Guys remember where that it was some museum or art
- 6:47Speaker 3: set up where they taped a banana to.
- 6:48Speaker 1: The wall, right, yeah, all that sort of stuff. I
- 6:51Speaker 1: just yeah, I just I don't.
- 6:55Speaker 3: Friend, I could get behind were the people that were
- 6:57Speaker 3: when you stand there and you fill your mouth with
- 6:59Speaker 3: water and then you slap the person across from me
- 7:01Speaker 3: with a tortilla and see you spits the water out
- 7:03Speaker 3: of their mouth first.
- 7:03Speaker 4: That was a good one.
- 7:04Speaker 2: Well, slapping his time honor, that was art.
- 7:08Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 7:09Speaker 2: Yeah, oh, speaking of that sort of thing, I was
- 7:11Speaker 2: looking at Apple's Best Albums list that they came out
- 7:14Speaker 2: with it. It was still controversial because they're saying, hey, perhaps
- 7:17Speaker 2: you'd like to listen to some of these they were
- 7:18Speaker 2: on the best Albums list. And I came across the
- 7:23Speaker 2: Velvet Underground with Nico with the Warhole banana on the cover,
- 7:27Speaker 2: which reminded me of that, you know, when I first
- 7:31Speaker 2: listened to that album, because I was told if you're
- 7:34Speaker 2: a music hipster, you got to I thought it sucked,
- 7:37Speaker 2: and then I went back to it twenty years later
- 7:40Speaker 2: probably and it still sucked. And I gave it a
- 7:44Speaker 2: spin the other day and it sucks worse. It sucks.
- 7:47Speaker 2: I hate that album. It sucks. There you have it.
- 7:50Speaker 1: And The Velvet Underground was hanging out with Andy Warhol
- 7:52Speaker 1: in the factory in New York and making weird music,
- 7:55Speaker 1: and yeah, if everything is art, nothing is art. That's
- 7:57Speaker 1: the way I feel about that thing.
- 8:01Speaker 2: Yeah, And I don't hate everything the Velvet Underground does,
- 8:03Speaker 2: but that is definitely one of those pieces of quote
- 8:06Speaker 2: unquote art that's been fetishized to the point that maybe
- 8:10Speaker 2: it's possible I don't get it. I doubt that I
- 8:13Speaker 2: don't get it because my tastes in music are from
- 8:16Speaker 2: coast to coast.
- 8:17Speaker 1: Yeah, it's so easy to go Emperor's New Clothes on
- 8:20Speaker 1: art and just like, well, if you don't understand it,
- 8:23Speaker 1: I can't help you, you know.
- 8:25Speaker 2: But a guy who, on a hot summer's day in
- 8:28Speaker 2: a sweater and jeans will do the splits and ingest
- 8:32Speaker 2: canned eggs is a man who is creating art.
- 8:36Speaker 1: If I hadn't been at least a little bit frightened.
- 8:40Speaker 1: Not that he was frightening, but there are frightening street
- 8:42Speaker 1: people in the town I live, and I didn't know
- 8:44Speaker 1: if he's one of them or not. If I had
- 8:45Speaker 1: known what he was, I would have me and my
- 8:47Speaker 1: kids would I not? About buck. I'm glad I got
- 8:52Speaker 1: to see it in person. I've read about it on
- 8:54Speaker 1: redded threads. So you're the great split man. I hope
- 8:57Speaker 1: you're not a split man imitator. I hope you're the real,
- 9:00Speaker 1: the original.
- 9:02Speaker 2: What if I were to pour syrup over my head
- 9:07Speaker 2: while reciting the works of Yeats or you know, one
- 9:12Speaker 2: of your great poets. I mean, Nah, that's kind of messy.
- 9:17Speaker 2: It lacks the I mean because people would say immediately, oh,
- 9:22Speaker 2: he's looking for attention. Lacks the WTF factor.
- 9:26Speaker 1: But I was gonna ride a unicycle while baiting a
- 9:29Speaker 1: fish hook? Does that seem like perhaps I could know
- 9:34Speaker 1: in a top hat or something while.
- 9:38Speaker 2: Shouting where is my wife? Has anyone seen my wife? Now?
- 9:45Speaker 2: You got something?
- 9:48Speaker 4: I remember on The Simpsons of Grandpa Simpsons saying how
- 9:51Speaker 4: he tried.
- 9:52Speaker 1: To get a woman by wearing a beard of bees. Well,
- 9:57Speaker 1: I guess that's it.
