  Speaker 1: with God together.

  Speaker 1: You know this aspect of listening to God at the

  Speaker 1: beginning of the day and interacting with Him.

  Speaker 1: It's so healthy it lays a foundation for your prayer life,

  Speaker 1: but much of our prayer is a request as well,
• 0:29
  Speaker 1: isn't it, asking God to be involved in our lives
• 0:33
  Speaker 1: and

  Speaker 1: The teaching that we've been looking at this week in
• 0:38
  Speaker 1: John 14 to 16, Jesus gives such an emphasis that
• 0:43
  Speaker 1: we should expect to see answers to our prayers, and
• 0:48
  Speaker 1: that if we are not seeing our prayers answered, then
• 0:51
  Speaker 1: something's wrong with our praying.

  Speaker 1: Listen again to the verses we've looked at John 14:13-14,

  Speaker 1: and whatever you ask in my name, that will I
• 1:04
  Speaker 1: do that the Father may be glorified in the Son.

  Speaker 1: If you ask me anything in my name, I will
• 1:12
  Speaker 1: do it.

  Speaker 1: John 15:7. If you abide in me and my words

  Speaker 1: abide in you, ask whatever you wish, and it shall

  Speaker 1: be done for you.

  Speaker 1: You did not choose me, but I chose you and

  Speaker 1: appointed you that you should go and bear fruit and

  Speaker 1: that your fruit should remain, that whatever you ask of

  Speaker 1: the Father in my name, He may give to you.

  Speaker 1: And in John 16:23-24, in that day you will ask
• 1:45
  Speaker 1: me no question. Truly, truly I say to you, if

  Speaker 1: you shall ask the Father for anything, He will give
• 1:52
  Speaker 1: it to you in my name. Until now you have
• 1:55
  Speaker 1: asked for nothing in my name.

  Speaker 1: Ask and you will receive that your joy may be

  Speaker 1: I believe the key to all of these passages is

  Speaker 1: found in those three little words that we heard again
• 2:13
  Speaker 1: and again and again as we read those verses in
• 2:17
  Speaker 1: my name, whatever you ask in my name.

  Speaker 1: I will do if you ask me anything in my name.

  Speaker 1: I will do it. Whatever you ask of the Father

  Speaker 1: in my name, He may give to you. If you

  Speaker 1: shall ask the Father for anything, he will give it

  Speaker 1: to you in my name. Until now you have asked

  Speaker 1: for nothing in my name. Ask and you will receive.

  Speaker 1: What does it mean to ask in Jesus' name? It
• 2:45
  Speaker 1: doesn't mean you just tack that on to the end
• 2:47
  Speaker 1: of your prayers in Jesus' name. Amen. Kind of like
• 2:50
  Speaker 1: saying abracadabra at the end of something. That is not
• 2:54
  Speaker 1: a magic formula. What does it mean? Well, what does
• 2:59
  Speaker 1: it mean to do something in somebody's name? If somebody
• 3:04
  Speaker 1: allows you to use their name, uh, to do something.
• 3:10
  Speaker 1: Well, it means you use their authority. It means you
• 3:13
  Speaker 1: are their representative, their substitute. Using someone's name means you're
• 3:19
  Speaker 1: going on their behalf. You're asking for them what they
• 3:23
  Speaker 1: would want to ask. You have the same interests as
• 3:28
  Speaker 1: they do. No one's going to give someone the use
• 3:32
  Speaker 1: of their name if they don't think that person is
• 3:34
  Speaker 1: going to, uh.
• 3:37
  Speaker 1: Use it for their interests.
• 3:39
  Speaker 1: It means you trust them.
• 3:42
  Speaker 1: And that's what Jesus is saying to us. I trust
• 3:45
  Speaker 1: you in your prayers to pray on my behalf, not
• 3:50
  Speaker 1: just to pray what you want.

  Speaker 1: But to come to the Father and say
• 3:55
  Speaker 1: Here's what Jesus wants in my life. Would you do it?

  Speaker 1: Here's what Jesus wants in my friend's life.

  Speaker 1: Lord, I come to you on Jesus' behalf. That's what
• 4:09
  Speaker 1: in His name means.
• 4:12
  Speaker 1: In his name.
• 4:14
  Speaker 1: You can ask whatever you will, because what it means
• 4:17
  Speaker 1: is that your prayers are not originating with you.
• 4:22
  Speaker 1: Your prayers are originating in the heart of Jesus Christ.

  Speaker 1: And you're bringing those requests to God the Father.
• 4:30
  Speaker 1: And God says, I'll do it.
• 4:33
  Speaker 1: If you're asking what Jesus would ask.
• 4:37
  Speaker 1: That's the challenge of prayer.
• 4:39
  Speaker 1: Discerning what would Jesus ask for, not what do I want.
• 4:45
  Speaker 1: What would Jesus ask for and then ask it in faith.
