- 0:00Speaker 1: For all you mad bastards loving the Big Show Podcast,
- 0:05Speaker 1: get up even closer on Instagram, YouTube and TikTok, or
- 0:10Speaker 1: Raw Dog It, four to seven every weekday on Radio
- 0:14Speaker 1: Hodak here.
- 0:15Speaker 2: Oh, g'day fellas.
- 0:17Speaker 3: Backbone. Yeah, great stuff. How's second day, Keezy? Second day hangover.
- 0:27Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 0:27Speaker 3: Shit, sleep myself. Yeah, man.
- 0:29Speaker 2: Yeah, same, actually.
- 0:30Speaker 3: Same.
- 0:31Speaker 2: Terrible.
- 0:31Speaker 3: Same here. Well, if I could just talk about mine
- 0:33Speaker 3: for just one second. No, no, no. Why didn't you
- 0:34Speaker 3: get a load of this? Not for two seconds. There's
- 0:36Speaker 3: probably no point talking about yours, given how bad mine was. Jesus.
- 0:39Speaker 2: Mine was probably worse.
- 0:40Speaker 3: I'll go second, and then we'll just let Jase go last,
- 0:43Speaker 3: because without a doubt. His was the worst.
- 0:45Speaker 2: Yeah, for sure.
- 0:46Speaker 3: So, couldn't go to sleep. Oh, cheesy. Was in bed
- 0:49Speaker 3: at nine, tossing and turning. You hadn't been tongue in
- 0:53Speaker 3: the bag, had you? What does that mean? Tonguing the bag?
- 0:57Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 0:57Speaker 3: What does that mean? We can't get into it on here, man.
- 0:59Speaker 2: No, it's... Come on, man.
- 1:02Speaker 3: Like... Shagging or something? No, not shagging. Something naughty, though?
- 1:07Speaker 3: Something naughty. Not sexual, though. Nah, not last night.
- 1:12Speaker 4: Finally got to sleep, started drifting to sleep like maybe 11.15,
- 1:14Speaker 4: so two hours a bit in bed. And then I
- 1:16Speaker 4: accidentally set an alarm for 11.55 p.m. instead of a.m.
- 1:20Speaker 4: today to buy tickets for the Waz. I set it
- 1:22Speaker 4: for just before midnight last night. And so that went
- 1:25Speaker 4: off just as I fell asleep. I went, fuck, turned
- 1:27Speaker 4: it off, and then couldn't go to sleep again for ages.
- 1:29Speaker 3: Right, okay. And then woke up really early. What took you,
- 1:31Speaker 3: like seven? Fucking annoying. No, it was like 6 a.m.
- 1:34Speaker 3: or some bullshit. On the day I turned my alarm
- 1:36Speaker 3: off and said, I'm just sleeping in, boom, up early. Shocking, man.
- 1:40Speaker 3: Saw the toxins in your body from the sausage fest.
- 1:42Speaker 2: Yeah, I think so. It takes a while to leach
- 1:45Speaker 2: out there, Keeley.
- 1:47Speaker 3: How do I leach it quicker?
- 1:48Speaker 2: Wow.
- 1:49Speaker 3: It's just a time thing, man.
- 1:50Speaker 2: Yeah, just water, lemon juice, beating off.
- 1:54Speaker 3: Sweet. Well, tick, tick, tick. I've had one of those
- 1:57Speaker 3: things quite a lot.
- 1:58Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 1:59Speaker 3: And I am thirsty now. How? How tired are you, man?
- 2:06Speaker 3: How tired am I? Okay, then.
- 2:08Speaker 5: Well, I went to bed at about nine, so I
- 2:10Speaker 5: got six hours sleep. So I was awake at three, probably, 2.30, 2.30, because.
- 2:16Speaker 3: I was going to the gym this morning.
- 2:18Speaker 5: So I set the alarm for quarter to six, 10
- 2:20Speaker 5: to six, because my brother-in-law's going to the gym, you see.
- 2:23Speaker 3: Yes. And I'm fine.
- 2:24Speaker 5: And if I don't go in the morning, then I find.
- 2:26Speaker 3: Excuses over the course of the day, and I just
- 2:28Speaker 3: don't go. Yeah.
- 2:29Speaker 5: I'm not back into my I'm loving it stage and
- 2:32Speaker 5: can't wait to go stage. So then I just sort
- 2:34Speaker 5: of was awake for.
- 2:35Speaker 3: The rest of the night.
- 2:36Speaker 5: I probably nodded off once and was dreaming about, I
- 2:39Speaker 5: was actually dreaming about coming up with an excuse for not.
- 2:42Speaker 3: Going to the gym.
- 2:43Speaker 2: Oh, really?
- 2:44Speaker 3: Did you come up with anything good? No, not good enough.
- 2:47Speaker 3: Ended up going to the gym.
- 2:48Speaker 1: Stink.
- 2:49Speaker 3: So that was, and then the birds started, the fucking birds,
- 2:51Speaker 3: which I'll get into on the show.
- 2:52Speaker 2: They actually start, I've noticed, at about three in the morning.
- 2:56Speaker 3: They're fucking assholes.
- 2:57Speaker 2: It's just unbelievable. I was up at three the other day.
- 3:01Speaker 3: What are we doing? What are we doing?
- 3:02Speaker 2: And it was like birds at 3 a.m. in the
- 3:05Speaker 2: morning just tweeting away.
- 3:08Speaker 3: A twit to woo.
- 3:10Speaker 2: I had a shocker too, fellas. Just drifting off. I
- 3:14Speaker 2: went to bed probably caught past 10.
- 3:18Speaker 3: Jeez, you're a night owl. I know, I know.
- 3:22Speaker 2: And was really tired and was just drifting off. Yes.
- 3:26Speaker 2: And then my daughter came out of her room.
- 3:28Speaker 3: Ba-ba-bang!
- 3:29Speaker 2: Da-doosh!
- 3:30Speaker 3: Bang!
- 3:33Speaker 5: And.
- 3:36Speaker 3: And just walking out.
- 3:37Speaker 2: Just walking out.
- 3:38Speaker 3: Yeah, not doing anything.
- 3:39Speaker 2: To the bathroom or whatever.
- 3:39Speaker 3: Not dragging a dead body or anything. Was it actually
- 3:41Speaker 3: that loud or was it like.
- 3:42Speaker 2: She... It's like she's breaking out of prison.
- 3:46Speaker 3: Have you told her that? Well, she should be quieter. Yes,
- 3:48Speaker 3: all the time.
- 3:49Speaker 2: I say to her, can you maybe just try and
- 3:52Speaker 2: open your door a little more quietly?
- 3:54Speaker 3: Yeah, my brother-in-law's the same.
- 3:56Speaker 2: It's ridiculous.
- 3:57Speaker 3: Just no sort of awareness.
- 3:59Speaker 5: If he goes out to the gym, I love him,
- 4:01Speaker 5: great guy. He'll go out the door and he'll just
- 4:03Speaker 5: slam the door, which is right beside my bed, or
- 4:06Speaker 5: make no effort to close it quietly.
- 4:09Speaker 3: Yes.
- 4:09Speaker 2: And then heel, heel, heel, heel, heel, all the.
- 4:12Speaker 3: Way down the stairs. Heel, heel, heel, all the way
- 4:15Speaker 3: past our window on the deck. And then walk out
- 4:18Speaker 3: the gate and slam the gate and knock it off
- 4:21Speaker 3: at Tinger's.
- 4:21Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 4:22Speaker 3: Do you know what you guys should do? And then
- 4:23Speaker 3: shout out, see you later, bogey, from the footpath. It's
- 4:26Speaker 3: fucking six in the morning, man.
- 4:28Speaker 2: I know.
- 4:28Speaker 3: Carpet your houses, man. Carpet them up.
- 4:30Speaker 2: Well, I do have carpet in the apartment.
- 4:32Speaker 3: Carpet the outside, Keezy. What, down the hallway?
- 4:34Speaker 2: But it turned out, it turned out, Keezy.
- 4:36Speaker 3: Keezy!
- 4:44Speaker 5: You know how good the Hodaki Big Show podcast is?
- 4:48Speaker 3: Yeah, I love those fellas. Backbone.
- 4:51Speaker 2: Yeah, backbone. You get it.
- 4:53Speaker 3: You've got to get around the live radio show. Oh, you?
- 4:56Speaker 2: When's that?
- 4:56Speaker 5: Four to seven weekdays on Radio Hodaki and iHeartRadio.
- 5:01Speaker 2: Backbone.
- 5:03Speaker 3: Nice.
- 5:04Speaker 4: The Hodaki Big Show podcast.
- 5:07Speaker 2: It turned out that my daughter had a shocking sleep
- 5:11Speaker 2: and she was up till like three or four in
- 5:13Speaker 2: the morning. In and out of her room.
- 5:15Speaker 3: Doing what?
- 5:17Speaker 2: All fucking night. And I remember lying in bed at
- 5:21Speaker 2: one stage. I think it was about one or two
- 5:23Speaker 2: and just going, oh, for fuck's sake.
- 5:26Speaker 3: Yeah. I get like that. You won't be surprised to learn, man.
- 5:30Speaker 2: And then she'll hear me and slam her door because
- 5:34Speaker 2: she's pissed off with me because I'm pissed off.
- 5:36Speaker 3: So what you said off for fuck's sake out loud.
- 5:38Speaker 2: Yes.
- 5:39Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 5:41Speaker 2: And then my wife wakes up and she's like, are
- 5:43Speaker 2: you all G? And I'm like, well, no.
- 5:44Speaker 3: Because you're waking her up now.
- 5:46Speaker 5: And now she has to hear your bullshit.
- 5:49Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 5:49Speaker 5: And now she's fuming. I'm living your life, man. We're
- 5:52Speaker 5: living each other's lives. I've been down this road.
- 5:53Speaker 3: You guys should move in together. I tell you what,
- 5:56Speaker 3: at least we get a good night's sleep.
- 5:57Speaker 2: I think so. We'd be considerate, Keezy.
- 5:59Speaker 3: Exactly. A couple of backbones. I don't know. I do.
- 6:03Speaker 3: I don't know. Well, I do because we are annoyed
- 6:06Speaker 3: by the same things.
- 6:07Speaker 2: Yes.
- 6:08Speaker 3: We'd be smoking inside. That'd be day one. Do you
- 6:10Speaker 3: get pissed off by Jase's daughter? Well, I get pissed
- 6:14Speaker 3: off by people I live with. Yeah, yeah.
- 6:16Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, yeah. And her door is right next to
- 6:20Speaker 2: our door.
- 6:20Speaker 3: They didn't plan it well at all, did they, the
- 6:22Speaker 3: way out of that apartment?
- 6:23Speaker 1: No.
- 6:25Speaker 3: Bedrooms right next to bedrooms. What's that about? Shocking. This
- 6:29Speaker 3: is all in front of Keezy. Keezy can't believe it.
- 6:31Speaker 3: Keezy will be you.
- 6:32Speaker 2: I think I'll be more chilled.
- 6:33Speaker 3: I know, that's what you think.
- 6:35Speaker 2: She'll sleep till 12 or 1 the next day. I'm
- 6:38Speaker 2: up at like.
- 6:39Speaker 3: Quarter to 6 going effing and jeffing. I used to
- 6:42Speaker 3: be the chillest guy in the world, Keezy.
- 6:44Speaker 1: Really?
- 6:45Speaker 3: I don't believe that. 100%. Chillest guy in the world. Well, very,
- 6:48Speaker 3: very chill, but it takes the chill out of you, brother.
- 6:51Speaker 3: It's all in front of you, man. You think it's easy, man? Nah, chill, man.
- 6:54Speaker 3: You think it's easy? It's not. It's fatigue, Keezy.
- 6:57Speaker 2: Fatigue.
- 6:57Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 6:58Speaker 2: But how are you in terms of, you know, your
- 7:01Speaker 2: second day there? You're looking a bit.
- 7:03Speaker 3: Yeah, you're looking pretty poked, man. Yeah, you're looking tight.
- 7:05Speaker 3: But it's chill because... What.
- 7:07Speaker 5: About if we just drag your show, like, just annoying
- 7:09Speaker 5: little stuff like yesterday? Not dragging you, but just annoying things.
- 7:12Speaker 4: Like pull it together, Keezy.
- 7:14Speaker 3: Yeah, you pull yourself together. Never wanted to slap you more, Keezy. Well,
- 7:20Speaker 3: whatever makes the three hours go faster, to be honest.
- 7:23Speaker 3: I'm with you, man. We can do that every break
- 7:24Speaker 3: if you want.
- 7:25Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, totally.
- 7:26Speaker 3: I've got to get out early tonight. I've got to
- 7:27Speaker 3: play at nine o'clock.
- 7:29Speaker 1: Wow.
- 7:30Speaker 3: Sweet. Do you actually ever play at nine? No, it's
- 7:32Speaker 3: at eight. Okay.
- 7:33Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 7:34Speaker 3: So we can still do a post-show meeting? Brainstorming for
- 7:37Speaker 3: tomorrow's show? Absolutely brainstorming. Brainstorming's on. Yeah, yeah. Of course.
- 7:40Speaker 3: Fuck yeah, baby. Tell you what, I watched the end
- 7:43Speaker 3: of a show last night at the Ahuja DJ.
- 7:44Speaker 2: Yes. How good, eh? Alone.
- 7:49Speaker 3: What a great show. Brilliant. One of the greatest. Yes.
- 7:52Speaker 3: What a joyous discovery that has been. Five buzzies.
- 7:56Speaker 2: Totally, man.
- 7:57Speaker 3: Really, that good. Up and down all day. Five buzzies.
- 8:01Speaker 3: I was in tears in the final episode. Yeah.
- 8:03Speaker 2: Joy or?
- 8:04Speaker 3: Oh, both.
- 8:05Speaker 2: Yeah, right.
- 8:05Speaker 3: Both. Okay. Very happy for someone, very sad for someone else. Yeah.
- 8:11Speaker 3: What a couple of absolute backbones. Absolutely. My favourites from
- 8:15Speaker 3: the start, the two of them.
- 8:16Speaker 2: Yes, I agree.
- 8:18Speaker 3: Nem's being cheesy. Not like you and me. Not like
- 8:21Speaker 3: I'm Woody J. Kind of like Woody J.
- 8:23Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 8:23Speaker 2: Yeah, more like Jace. Yeah, like Jace. But I agree
- 8:27Speaker 2: with you. The two, they were both backbones.
- 8:30Speaker 3: Absolute backbones.
- 8:31Speaker 2: And you sort of felt gutted for one of them.
- 8:33Speaker 3: Very, very much so.
- 8:36Speaker 5: Yeah, on the verge of dying and still like, I'm
- 8:38Speaker 5: not leaving here unless I get medically evacuated.
- 8:41Speaker 3: Yes. Both of them. How many episodes is that season?
- 8:44Speaker 3: I think it was 13.
- 8:45Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 8:46Speaker 3: That's not too bad.
- 8:47Speaker 2: You should watch it, Keith.
- 8:48Speaker 3: It's so good.
- 8:49Speaker 2: It's bloody great.
- 8:50Speaker 3: Yeah, unbelievable. But I am going to spoil it today.
- 8:53Speaker 3: I am going to say who won't.
- 8:55Speaker 2: Yes.
- 8:55Speaker 3: Yeah, right. It's been out for over a year.
- 8:58Speaker 2: That long, has it?
- 8:59Speaker 3: Yeah. Wow.
- 8:59Speaker 2: Yeah. Okay.
- 9:00Speaker 3: I'd never heard of it. Oh, except for you going
- 9:02Speaker 3: on about it.
- 9:03Speaker 4: I don't think I've ever heard anyone ever talk about it.
- 9:05Speaker 4: And in fact, I'd say people would have just... heard
- 9:08Speaker 4: of it for the first time from our show.
- 9:09Speaker 3: Yeah, well, that's the thing.
- 9:10Speaker 5: Like, I ended up researching articles and following everybody on
- 9:14Speaker 5: old socials and YouTube and stuff. But there was obviously,
- 9:17Speaker 5: there was definitely media coverage of it at the time,
- 9:20Speaker 5: but I never saw it.
- 9:21Speaker 3: No. No, same. But I'm going to be watching everything.
- 9:23Speaker 3: I think they're in the Arctic Circle.
- 9:25Speaker 2: Yes.
- 9:25Speaker 3: In this new one.
- 9:26Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 9:26Speaker 3: And they've done Fiordland before.
- 9:28Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 9:28Speaker 3: So I'm going to do the Fiordland one. It's all
- 9:31Speaker 3: good stuff. It's great stuff. I suppose it's like me
- 9:33Speaker 3: and my wife with....
- 9:35Speaker 2: Location, location, location.
- 9:37Speaker 3: Amazing Race Australia, I was going to say. Yeah, right.
- 9:40Speaker 3: Love that show. Except you could die.
- 9:42Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 9:43Speaker 3: Yeah, but we don't need that. Yeah, you do, man.
- 9:45Speaker 5: No.
- 9:45Speaker 3: Yeah, you do. I don't need people dying. It's pretty awesome.
- 9:48Speaker 3: And the woman in it was amazing as well.
- 9:50Speaker 2: She was amazing.
- 9:51Speaker 3: Everything about it was great.
- 9:52Speaker 2: And I felt, well.
- 9:53Speaker 3: I'm shocked that she left.
- 9:54Speaker 2: Yes, so was I. It was like, what?
- 9:57Speaker 3: Because she was having a lovely time.
- 9:58Speaker 2: She was.
- 9:59Speaker 3: It was like she was dying.
- 10:00Speaker 2: Was in complete control. And it was like, you know,
- 10:03Speaker 2: I don't have any time for the people that go, oh,
- 10:05Speaker 2: I miss my family. It's like, fuck that shit, man.
- 10:08Speaker 2: Come on. You can go and see your family any time.
- 10:11Speaker 3: You knew what you were there for, man.
- 10:13Speaker 4: Yes.
- 10:13Speaker 5: There was a guy that jumped out of the Acacia
- 10:15Speaker 5: after about a week and a half or something.
- 10:18Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 10:18Speaker 5: He just started fixating on the fact that he didn't
- 10:20Speaker 5: have his kids with him or his missus, which seemed
- 10:23Speaker 5: to be just covering up the fact.
- 10:24Speaker 3: That he couldn't get to his fish. Yeah, he couldn't
- 10:26Speaker 3: handle it. He couldn't handle the jandal.
- 10:27Speaker 2: The jandal.
- 10:28Speaker 3: Yeah, right.
- 10:29Speaker 5: And yet the possum hunter guy, Shea, who is– I
- 10:34Speaker 5: was looking him up. So he left school when he
- 10:36Speaker 5: was 16 and he went and lived in the bush
- 10:39Speaker 5: for the next four years.
- 10:40Speaker 2: Yes.
- 10:41Speaker 5: All four of his next birthdays were in the bush.
- 10:43Speaker 5: He would go into the bush and trap possums alone.
- 10:46Speaker 5: for anywhere between a minimum of two weeks up to
- 10:48Speaker 5: two months by himself.
- 10:51Speaker 3: Yeah. Unbelievable. Unbelievable.
- 10:54Speaker 2: He's a great character. He is really a great character.
- 10:56Speaker 3: He is one of the all-time great New Zealanders.
- 10:58Speaker 2: Yes, he is.
- 10:58Speaker 3: An absolute legend of a human. And my daughter loves him.
- 11:03Speaker 4: When I'm watching Hunt for the Wilderpeople, I always think, yeah,
- 11:05Speaker 4: I'd love to go bush. But then the reality is
- 11:07Speaker 4: I'd be fucking hopeless.
- 11:08Speaker 3: Yeah, same.
- 11:09Speaker 2: But I actually thought that that woman you were talking
- 11:12Speaker 2: about and Shay would have been a pretty good couple. Oh,
- 11:16Speaker 2: did you? Yeah, because she was like, her whole thing was, oh,
- 11:21Speaker 2: I want to have a baby.
- 11:22Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 11:23Speaker 2: And I don't know that this is good for my
- 11:25Speaker 2: womanly sort of situation. But imagine those two together because
- 11:31Speaker 2: she was a backbone as well.
- 11:33Speaker 5: She was, but he met his missus in the bush.
- 11:36Speaker 5: She was out trapping possums for two weeks by herself.
- 11:40Speaker 3: Yeah. So she's a weapon as well.
- 11:42Speaker 2: And she is.
- 11:43Speaker 3: There you go, eh?
- 11:46Speaker 5: It's on TVNZ +. I'll be banging on about it
- 11:48Speaker 5: in the show as well. One of the greatest shows
- 11:50Speaker 5: ever made.
- 11:51Speaker 3: Should we go bush? So good. The big show, Go Bush. Yes.
- 11:55Speaker 3: If the bush is Waiheke Island.
- 11:57Speaker 2: I really want to go camping, but my wife is
- 12:00Speaker 2: not into it.
- 12:01Speaker 3: But what kind of camping?
- 12:02Speaker 2: Like tenting.
- 12:03Speaker 3: Like in a tent. Obviously, but like top ten campground with.
- 12:06Speaker 2: A little bar and a little restaurant. No, well, you know,
- 12:07Speaker 2: like just.
- 12:08Speaker 3: That's what I'm going to do, Gizzy. Just a campground?
- 12:10Speaker 2: Yeah, right.
- 12:11Speaker 3: Well, you should. We've got a tent. Oh, have you
- 12:14Speaker 3: got a tent? I'll borrow your tent.
- 12:15Speaker 2: Can I borrow your tent?
- 12:16Speaker 3: I'm going to get a hell of a leather on it. Nah, well, gee, actually,
- 12:19Speaker 3: don't worry about it.
- 12:19Speaker 1: You sure?
- 12:19Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 12:21Speaker 3: The idea of you guys trying to set it up
- 12:22Speaker 3: without fucking it is.
- 12:23Speaker 5: I'm not going to try and fuck a tent.
- 12:26Speaker 3: I've seen you try and fuck more than that. I'm married, man.
- 12:29Speaker 3: Come on, man. It doesn't stop you in the past, man.
- 12:32Speaker 2: Oh, man.
- 12:33Speaker 3: Shocking, man. Disclaimer!
- 12:35Speaker 4: Hey, four to seven weekdays, Hodaki.
