- Lucas: Welcome back to Learn Danish with Fexingo. I am Lucas. Luna: And I am Luna. Hi everyone. Lucas: It is great to be here again. Last episode, we talked about general house rules and basic chores like vacuuming. Luna: Yes, and that was very useful. But I realized I still did not know how to say some specific things. Lucas: That happens to all of us. Today, we are going to fill in those gaps. We will focus on four very common tasks. Luna: I am ready. Let us start with the first one. Lucas: Okay. The first phrase is about the trash. In Danish, we say Tømme skraldespanden. Luna: Tømme skraldespanden. Lucas: Let me break that down slowly. Tømme skraldespanden. Luna: Tømme skraldespanden. Lucas: Perfect. It literally means emptying the trash can. Tømme means to empty, and skraldespanden is the trash bin. Luna: Right. So if my roommate asks me to do it, I would say I need to empty the trash. Lucas: Exactly. Or simply, I am going to empty the trash. Tømme skraldespanden. Luna: Tømme skraldespanden. Lucas: Good repetition. Let us try it together one more time before we move on. Tømme skraldespanden. Luna: Tømme skraldespanden. Lucas: There you go. That feels solid now. Next up, we have a pair of phrases about the bed. Luna: Oh, the bed. I always mess this up. Lucas: No worries. The first one is Lægge sengetøjet. Luna: Lægge sengetøjet. Lucas: Say it slowly with me. Lægge sengetøjet. Luna: Lægge sengetøjet. Lucas: Nice. This means putting on the bed sheets or arranging the bedding. Lægge is to lay or put, and sengetøjet is the bedding. Luna: Okay. And then there is another phrase? Gøre sengen? Lucas: Yes. Gøre sengen. Luna: Gøre sengen. Lucas: Slowly. Gøre sengen. Luna: Gøre sengen. Lucas: Correct. This is what we call making the bed in English. Straightening the pillows and covers. Gøre sengen. Luna: Gøre sengen. Lucas: You got it. They are similar but distinct. One is about the sheets, the other is about the whole bed look. Luna: I think I see the difference now. Lægge sengetøjet versus Gøre sengen. Lucas: Exactly. Let us repeat both together. Lægge sengetøjet. Gøre sengen. Luna: Lægge sengetøjet. Gøre sengen. Lucas: Excellent. Now for our third phrase. This one is important for spring cleaning. Luna: Is it hard to say? Lucas: Not at all. It is Rengøre vinduerne. Luna: Rengøre vinduerne. Lucas: Let me say it slowly. Rengøre vinduerne. Luna: Rengøre vinduerne. Lucas: Perfect. Rengøre means to clean thoroughly, and vinduerne means the windows. So, cleaning the windows. Luna: Rengøre vinduerne. Lucas: Very good. If your Danish friend invites you over, you might offer to help. You could say I will clean the windows. Luna: Jeg rengører vinduerne. Lucas: Wait, just the phrase first. Rengøre vinduerne. We will add the subject later if you want. Luna: Ah, okay. Rengøre vinduerne. Lucas: That is better. Smooth and clear. Let us do one more round. Rengøre vinduerne. Luna: Rengøre vinduerne. Lucas: Great. Finally, we have one last phrase. It is about the laundry cycle itself. Luna: We did laundry verbs last time. Is this different? Lucas: Yes. This is a specific noun phrase. At vaske tøj. Luna: At vaske tøj. Lucas: Slowly. At vaske tøj. Luna: At vaske tøj. Lucas: Correct. It means to wash clothes. At is the infinitive marker, vaske is to wash, and tøj is clothes. Luna: At vaske tøj. Lucas: Good. Notice how we use 'at' at the beginning when talking about the activity in general. Luna: I see. Like saying 'To wash clothes'. Lucas: Exactly. Let us practice the full set now. Tømme skraldespanden. Luna: Tømme skraldespanden. Lucas: Lægge sengetøjet. Luna: Lægge sengetøjet. Lucas: Gøre sengen. Luna: Gøre sengen. Lucas: Rengøre vinduerne. Luna: Rengøre vinduerne. Lucas: At vaske tøj. Luna: At vaske tøj. Lucas: You are doing really well. These five phrases cover most of the daily maintenance tasks. Luna: I feel much more confident about asking for help around the house now. Lucas: That is the goal. Try using them in a sentence today. Maybe tell someone you will make the bed. Luna: Gøre sengen. I will try that. Lucas: Remember, consistency is key. Just a little bit every day. Luna: True. Thanks for being patient with my pronunciation. Lucas: Anytime. You are improving every single time we speak. Luna: Before we go, I want to mention something about the show. Lucas: Yes, listeners.
