- 0:01Hey everybody, welcome to the good morning from the Chicken
- 0:04Coop podcast. My name is Kim Johnson and I am
- 0:07a mastermind, set coach, creative strategist, and also
- 0:09happen to be a farmer. This is my chicken coop and I
- 0:12come out here every day to record a podcast to teach
- 0:16distinctions, possibilities, new ways of thinking, and just bring
- 0:20some joy into the world. So welcome to the coop, and
- 0:23let's start your day off in a fantastic way.
- 0:27Hey everybody, good afternoon from the chicken coop.
- 0:31Yes, it's the afternoon and the girls are in the garden.
- 0:34And I'm standing out here trying to reimagine what we're working
- 0:37towards for this new year and how we can expand it and get
- 0:42past some of the problems we had last year, which ultimately
- 0:45caused great heartache for me that my, you know, beloved
- 0:49tomato crop just was in the toilet.
- 0:52Let's just say, as any of them who's a regular listener knows,
- 0:55it was a disastrous year with tomatoes.
- 0:58Putting that aside, there's a story to this.
- 1:00So as I'm sitting out here and I'm watching the girls dig
- 1:03through, we've got the covers off and we're letting them into
- 1:07the garden so they can dig through and really take out
- 1:10pests and eggs and all kinds of little things.
- 1:12And we'll get ready to start to burn the edges and go through
- 1:16the process that we're going to go through.
- 1:18One of the things that was really important to me was to
- 1:21sit and reimagine and and look at something and say, OK, well,
- 1:26now that we have this open and this available to take a look at
- 1:30again, we have to start looking at it from a new perspective.
- 1:34And it made me think about this old story that I heard.
- 1:36Well, it's, I mean old, but you know, back to a bit of time.
- 1:40There was an app that you guys probably never heard of.
- 1:44It was a multiplayer game 2011, and it was a big flop.
- 1:47And it was called Glitch and glitch just didn't work out.
- 1:50It just did not work. And it was a major flop for the
- 1:52people who did it. But there's a part of this that
- 1:55I love to remember. And it's the fact that the, as
- 2:00part of that gaming system, they came up with a unique way for
- 2:04the players to interact with each other.
- 2:06And it was a, it was a chat community.
- 2:09And it was a way of communication that allowed them
- 2:12to message back and forth quickly and easily among the
- 2:15game. And after the, the major failure
- 2:20of the game itself, they took that, they decided, they sat and
- 2:24they actually contemplated what what could, what about what they
- 2:28did was good and what could they use leftover from that.
- 2:34And it turns out that they recognize that the chatting part
- 2:37of it was a really, really useful part and could be brought
- 2:41into the business world. And some of you may actually use
- 2:44that today because it's called Slack.
- 2:46And I used it for years. And I loved Slack because it was
- 2:50just like having a Direct Line to anybody else you work with
- 2:53virtually in a way. And during, you know, the times
- 2:56of the pandemic, it was major to be able to have Slack and work
- 2:59with people back and forth because you could upload files
- 3:02and you can chat with them. And it's just instant system.
- 3:04And I absolutely loved it. And because they stopped and
- 3:09paused and recognized what was great about something that they
- 3:12had, even though it was a disaster from the standpoint of
- 3:16the overall thing, they were able to become billionaires with
- 3:19that. Now, obviously this garden is
- 3:22not something like at that level.
- 3:24However, as I stand here and I contemplate it and I look at it
- 3:28and I can say, OK, well, what is great about this?
- 3:31You know what, what's great about what worked well, you
- 3:34know, all the new soil that we put in on top of everything was
- 3:38a major boost for all the other vegetables.
- 3:43My problem was I was trying too many different things and did
- 3:47not have a handle on what we would use.
- 3:49I was just really into, oh, I want to try to grow something
- 3:53like that. Oh, I want to try that.
- 3:54So my creativity, it was having a ball buying seeds.
- 3:58But the planning part of it, oh, you know, I was not prepared.
- 4:03I was not prepared for the a number of things that we're
- 4:06going to go crazy in there and I didn't have the structures set
- 4:10up. I also insisted that I was going
- 4:12to do this and not even ask my husband for any help.
- 4:16Not at all. I was just going to go ahead and
- 4:18I was just going to do it and see what I could, you know, come
- 4:20up with on my own because he was busy doing his own projects and
- 4:23I didn't want to be a pain in the butt.
- 4:25However, it was a major mistake because I missed out on his
- 4:29expertise and what he could have brought to the table.
- 4:32So this year we are doing it together.
- 4:34This year he is coming and helping me.
- 4:37And in fact, as I'm recording this, he's walking up right now
- 4:41and looking at the girls all in here, having a fun time checking
- 4:45it out and we're making our plan for what's next.
- 4:47So the point of this is to give you guys a thought that says,
- 4:52hey, you know what? Even though something may have
- 4:54been disastrous and something may have not worked, there were
- 4:57parts of it that were probably pretty good.
- 4:59And I'm going to go back and I'm going to look through it and I'm
- 5:01going to pull it apart because that's what I'm doing right now
- 5:03as I'm standing here taking notes, pulling it apart,
- 5:06checking it out and trying to see what part of its are good,
- 5:08what parts are good, what parts need to be reimagined, and what
- 5:11parts I can can take and move over into this new phase that
- 5:15we're going into. So never just throw it all out
- 5:18because you never know what's there.
- 5:19All right, my friends, I hope you have a blessed day and I'll
- 5:21see you tomorrow. Bye.
