- 0:12Hello friends. It's shown here as expected.
- 0:16And thank you for tapping play. It is a Tuesday.
- 0:20It is the 7th of March and you and me, we are going to take
- 0:25another step forward through God's word.
- 0:28And today, we'll have a look Lot less names than yesterday's
- 0:32reading which isn't saying much, I think that is the longest list
- 0:35of names. It goes on for a while and if
- 0:40you think that list goes on for a while, imagine all of those
- 0:44Generations, God sitting there with his pencil poised over his
- 0:48great, scroll planning, all those generations to finally
- 0:52bring his mission to fruition. And this is that wasn't actually
- 0:56meant to rhyme that we had did mission to fruition.
- 0:59But this is God's Mission and we hear of Jesus heading into the
- 1:03Wilderness being tempted and then returning.
- 1:07And Beginning his public Ministry, very exciting.
- 1:11So come with me all the way back.
- 1:14Feel the dust in your sandals, the hot air and your nostrils as
- 1:19we head back to first century, Palestine reading together, Luke
- 1:23chapter 4 Then Jesus full of the Holy
- 1:37Spirit returned from the Jordan River.
- 1:40He was led by the spirit in the wilderness, where he was tempted
- 1:43by the devil for 40 days. Jesus ate nothing all that time
- 1:48and became very hungry. Then the devil said to him.
- 1:53If you are the Son of God, tell this Stone to become a loaf of
- 1:56bread but Jesus told him. No, the scripture says people do
- 2:02not live by bread alone. Alone then the devil took him up
- 2:06and revealed to him all the kingdoms of the world.
- 2:09In a moment of time, I will give you the glory of these kingdoms
- 2:14and authority over them. The devil said because they are
- 2:18mine to give to anyone. I please, I will give it all to
- 2:22you. If you will worship me.
- 2:25Jesus replied the scriptures, say You must Worship the Lord
- 2:30your God and serve him only. Then the devil took him to
- 2:34Jerusalem to the highest point of the temple.
- 2:37And said, if you are the Son of God jump off for the scriptures,
- 2:42say he will order his angels to protect and guard you and they
- 2:47will hold you up with their hands.
- 2:49So you won't even hurt your foot on a stone.
- 2:54Jesus responded. The script is also say You must
- 2:58not Test the Lord your God. When the devil had finished
- 3:02tempting Jesus, he left him until the next opportunity came.
- 3:07Then Jesus returned to Galilee filled with the holy spirit's
- 3:11power reports about him spread quickly through the whole
- 3:14region. He taught regularly in their
- 3:17synagogues and was praised by everyone.
- 3:20When he came to the Village of Nazareth, his boyhood home, he
- 3:24went as usual to the synagogue on the Sabbath and stood up to
- 3:27read the scriptures, The Scroll of Isaiah, the prophet was Has
- 3:31handed to him, he unrolled the scroll, and found the place
- 3:34where it was written. The spirit of the Lord is upon
- 3:38me for. He has, anointed me to bring
- 3:40good news to the poor. He has sent me to Proclaim.
- 3:44That captives will be released at the blind.
- 3:47Will see that. The oppressed will be set free
- 3:50and at the time of the Lord's favor has come, he rolled up the
- 3:55scroll. Handed it back to the attendant
- 3:57and sat down all eyes and the synagogue.
- 4:01Looked at him intently, then he began to speak to them.
- 4:06The scripture you've just heard has been fulfilled.
- 4:09This very day everyone spoke well of him and was amazed by
- 4:13his gracious words that came from his lips.
- 4:16How can this be? They asked isn't this Joseph's
- 4:19son? Then he said you will
- 4:23undoubtedly. Quote me this proverb physician
- 4:26heal yourself, meaning do Miracles here in your home.
- 4:31I'm town like those you did in Capernaum, but I tell you the
- 4:34truth. No Prophet is accepted in his
- 4:37own hometown. Certainly there were many needy
- 4:41widows in Israel. In Elijah's time when the
- 4:44heavens were closed for three and a half years and a Severe
- 4:48famine devastated. The land yet Elijah was not sent
- 4:52to any of them. He was sentenced, Ed to a
- 4:54foreigner of Widow of Zarephath in the land of sidon and many in
- 5:00Israel, had leprosy in the time of the Prophet Elisha, but the
- 5:04only one healed was Naaman. The Syrian When they heard this,
- 5:09the people in the synagogue were Furious jumping up.
- 5:13They mobbed him and forced him to the edge of the hill on which
- 5:16the town was built. They intended to push him over
- 5:19the cliff, but he passed right through the crowd and went on
- 5:22his way. Then Jesus went to Capernaum a
- 5:27town in Galilee and taught there in the synagogue, every Sabbath
- 5:31day there to the people were amazed at his teaching for he
- 5:35spoke with authority once when he was in the synagogue.
- 5:39A man possessed by a demon and evil spirit Cried Out shouting.
- 5:44Go away. Why are you interfering with us?
- 5:47Jesus of Nazareth. Have you come to destroy us?
- 5:51I know who you are. The Holy One of God.
- 5:54God, but Jesus reprimanded. Him be quiet.
- 5:59Come out of the man. He ordered at that.
- 6:02The demon threw the man to the floor, as the crowd watched,
- 6:05then it came out of him without hurting him further.
- 6:09Amazed the people exclaimed what Authority and power?
- 6:13This man's words possess even evil spirits, obey him and they
- 6:17flee at his command, the news about Jesus spread through every
- 6:22village in the entire region. After leaving the synagogue,
- 6:26that day. Jesus went to Simon's home,
- 6:29where he found Simon's mother-in-law.
- 6:30Very sick with a high fever. Please heal her.
- 6:34Everyone begged standing at her. Bedside he rebuked the fever and
- 6:38it left her. And she got up at once and
- 6:41prepared a meal for them as the sun.
- 6:44Went down that evening people throughout the village brought
- 6:47sick, family members to Jesus no matter what their disease was,
- 6:51the touch of his hand healed, everyone.
- 6:54Many were possessed by demons and the demons came out of his
- 6:58command shouting. You are the Son of God but
- 7:02because they knew he was the Messiah, he rebuked them and
- 7:06refused to let them speak. Early the next morning, Jesus
- 7:11went out to an isolated place, the crowd searched everywhere
- 7:15for him and when they finally found him, the begged him not to
- 7:18leave them but he replied. I must preach the good news of
- 7:22the kingdom of God in other towns too.
- 7:25Because that is why I was sent. So he continued to travel around
- 7:30preaching and synagogues throughout Judea
- 7:43Jesus, at your name, the powers of evil shiver and Quake.
- 7:50You truly are Lord Over All And yes Lord, you are gentle.
- 7:57You are kind and you are forgiving.
- 7:59But help us never mistake that for weakness because your name
- 8:03stands Head and Shoulders above every other name and power and
- 8:09we recognized, you your name and your lordship as being above
- 8:14every other thing. And that power, not that we
- 8:18would use it for Glory or power or benefit, but that we would
- 8:22use your power to share your love in a way that speaks into
- 8:27the hearts of others because that is what your true power is
- 8:32your love, and your forgiveness and salvation of us.
- 8:37We just praise you and place you on the highest place above all
- 8:42other things and it's in your name that we pray, Jesus.
- 8:46Men.
