- 0:00Speaker 1: Now more of the Mark Simone Show on seven to
- 0:03Speaker 1: ten or filling in from Mark here again is Ken
- 0:07Speaker 1: Rosato and a very good Friday morning to You're good
- 0:11Speaker 1: to be with you. Mark has the weekend off. Let's
- 0:13Speaker 1: go to our busy phones, our good friend Vincent in Brooklyn.
- 0:16Speaker 1: Good morning, Vincent, good.
- 0:17Speaker 2: Morning, Good morning, Ken. Great to hear your voice speaking
- 0:22Speaker 2: of people having all these legals in their apartment and
- 0:28Speaker 2: you were talking about the sewer and the water lines. Well,
- 0:31Speaker 2: two years ago, in one of in my building, I
- 0:35Speaker 2: had to have the main sewer line replaced because it
- 0:39Speaker 2: was old and it had wear and tear on it,
- 0:42Speaker 2: and it was pretty pretty expensive, you know. So these houses,
- 0:49Speaker 2: most of them, were only made to as you pointed out,
- 0:53Speaker 2: were made for so many people occupying the apartments and everything.
- 0:58Speaker 2: In the fifties, my dad owned the large apartment building
- 1:02Speaker 2: and a lot of his tenants they were mainly Italian
- 1:06Speaker 2: and Hispanic. I remembered my mom telling my dad that
- 1:12Speaker 2: so and so a family member was covered from such
- 1:16Speaker 2: a place and they were going to be caught. Back
- 1:19Speaker 2: in those days, you had to have a sponsor. You
- 1:21Speaker 2: had to show you weren't going to be a burden too,
- 1:24Speaker 2: the system, you couldn't be on welfare and everything. And
- 1:29Speaker 2: my father would then go to the tenant and say, well, look,
- 1:33Speaker 2: you're going to use such and such more services, water, this, that,
- 1:37Speaker 2: and the other. And my father would just increased their
- 1:41Speaker 2: rent by a little to cover his course for the
- 1:44Speaker 2: added use of the mandate, the water and the hot water.
- 1:49Speaker 1: But Linda, do you remember there was a certain Democrat
- 1:53Speaker 1: president in the early nineteen sixties who said, ask not
- 1:56Speaker 1: what your country can do for you, ask what you
- 1:59Speaker 1: can do for your And I remember the late great RUSSI.
- 2:02Speaker 1: Limbaugh saying that we don't have an obligation to open
- 2:06Speaker 1: the door to be the supermarket to the world, the
- 2:11Speaker 1: place for everyone to come and make a few bucks
- 2:13Speaker 1: and go home. This is a country and we don't
- 2:16Speaker 1: have to accept everybody who wants to come here. We
- 2:18Speaker 1: could be very picky and say what do you have
- 2:21Speaker 1: to contribute here for us to let you in. We
- 2:23Speaker 1: should be discriminatory. And I mean by discriminatory, I mean
- 2:27Speaker 1: what can you benefit. I don't care what country you're from.
- 2:30Speaker 1: I don't care what color you are, what religion you are,
- 2:32Speaker 1: That has no bearing. What can you offer the United
- 2:35Speaker 1: States of America.
- 2:37Speaker 2: Exactly you one hundred percent right, Ken. And I actually
- 2:41Speaker 2: have a friend who a couple of years ago passed away,
- 2:44Speaker 2: but his dad came over in one of the early
- 2:47Speaker 2: waves of immigration, I think like nineteen hundred like that,
- 2:52Speaker 2: and he was rejected three times. They sent him back
- 2:56Speaker 2: because whatever, he didn't meet the christ here. And fourth
- 3:01Speaker 2: time they happen to be at Ellis Island. There happened
- 3:05Speaker 2: to be somebody from who was from the same town
- 3:09Speaker 2: as he was, and they had a mutual friend. And
- 3:12Speaker 2: this person stepped up and said, my family will sponsor him,
- 3:18Speaker 2: and me my family that's already here, and that's how
- 3:22Speaker 2: we got to stay because they were going to send
- 3:24Speaker 2: this guy back for the fourth time. Speaking of squatters
- 3:29Speaker 2: and people living in the apartments illegally, about thirty years ago,
- 3:33Speaker 2: one of my apartments, I noticed there was another name
- 3:36Speaker 2: on the mailbox that I didn't rent to this person.
- 3:40Speaker 2: So I went to the tenant. I said, who's living
- 3:42Speaker 2: here that's not on the lease and she says, oh, well,
- 3:45Speaker 2: this is my cousin from France. I says, well, I'll
- 3:49Speaker 2: tell you what. You have until the end of the
- 3:52Speaker 2: month to either get him an apartment because he's not
- 3:56Speaker 2: going to live here, or you get an apartment because
- 3:59Speaker 2: you're not going to live And you want to know what.
- 4:02Speaker 2: All of them left the apartment because I wasn't playing around.
- 4:05Speaker 2: I told them you get him out or you get out.
- 4:08Speaker 1: Somehow, I think. I think if Vincent looks at me
- 4:10Speaker 1: and says you get out, I'll get out. I don't know, Vincent,
- 4:13Speaker 1: I just I would listen to you. But you're a
- 4:15Speaker 1: great man, Vincent. I hope you're doing something memorable for
- 4:18Speaker 1: Memorial Day to remember those who fought and died for
- 4:20Speaker 1: our country. I'm sure you are, because you are a
- 4:22Speaker 1: great American. But as always, I love when you call
- 4:25Speaker 1: God bless you. Have a great weekend, my friend, and
- 4:27Speaker 1: I'll be on Monday, so I'll get that. Please call
- 4:29Speaker 1: back again. We'll talk to you on Monday. Thank you, Vincent.
- 4:32Speaker 1: Vincent's so fun. I love Vincent. Peter Jackson, New Jersey,
- 4:36Speaker 1: Happy Friday, Good morning to you.
- 4:39Speaker 3: Good morning, Ken. Yeah, Vincent's absolutely right. I am a
- 4:43Speaker 3: citizen by choice. My mother brought us over here, and
- 4:48Speaker 3: the first thing was she has to do two and
- 4:50Speaker 3: three jobs. Right from the beginning, we were sponsored to
- 4:53Speaker 3: get in here. She waited three years. We did it
- 4:57Speaker 3: the right way. At the age of eighteen, I went
- 4:59Speaker 3: myself well and I applied for American citizenship. Where you're from,
- 5:03Speaker 3: you know, everything was English has spoken in this house now,
- 5:08Speaker 3: not that she want at us to lose our heritage.
- 5:12Speaker 3: And therefore I always went to school on Saturdays also
- 5:15Speaker 3: to keep that up. But America is now my country,
- 5:19Speaker 3: and so it is for my kids.
- 5:21Speaker 1: You know, it's funny you say that because my father's side,
- 5:23Speaker 1: his mother and father had broken English. They spoke when
- 5:27Speaker 1: they came over. But my father came from a family
- 5:29Speaker 1: of nine boys. They were in Yonkers. Do you know
- 5:32Speaker 1: that not one of my uncles nor my father, none
- 5:35Speaker 1: of them had an accent. They all spoke fluent English.
- 5:39Speaker 1: Most of them went to college, they all served in
- 5:41Speaker 1: the military. That was America, And you're right, you were
- 5:44Speaker 1: not allowed to speak anything but English in the home.
- 5:46Speaker 1: When those kids came home, they spoke English as And
- 5:49Speaker 1: I always say it's because of my grandparents imposing that
- 5:52Speaker 1: on my father that I did not have any kind
- 5:55Speaker 1: of an accent, because if my father had an accent,
- 5:58Speaker 1: I would have probably been impacted. Never had a broadcasting career,
- 6:01Speaker 1: so I'm with you one hundred percent. There you go,
- 6:03Speaker 1: and you know what, it doesn't matter. I don't care
- 6:05Speaker 1: where they're from. The point is you come to America.
- 6:07Speaker 1: The commonly accepted language here is English, and it's best
- 6:11Speaker 1: for you coming here for you want to be in
- 6:13Speaker 1: business and in school to learn the language that the
- 6:15Speaker 1: majority of the people speak. It's not being discriminatory against
- 6:19Speaker 1: other languages. I speak seven languages by choice, but America
- 6:23Speaker 1: is where we speak English as a nation. That's all.
- 6:25Speaker 1: It's as simple as that. It helps us out. Peter,
- 6:27Speaker 1: thank you so much. Let's have a memorable Memorial Day
- 6:30Speaker 1: weekend for those who have fought and died for our country.
- 6:34Speaker 1: Seven ten WR It's eleven thirty two Friday. Ken Razotto
- 6:37Speaker 1: went from Mark and in just a few we will
- 6:39Speaker 1: speak with Save New Jersey founder Matt Rooney about the
- 6:43Speaker 1: quietly revised climate data that basically crushes the doom and
- 6:47Speaker 1: gloom predictions made by the environmentalists over the past three decads.
- 6:51Speaker 1: That doesn't mean it's okay to pollute. It doesn't mean
- 6:54Speaker 1: you should dump plastic in the water. I'm not saying that.
- 6:57Speaker 1: But the world is going to end next year with
- 7:00Speaker 1: the flooding in Manhattan. Eh, we'll talk about it. Seven
- 7:03Speaker 1: ten wor
