Latest / Moey's Laboratory of Extraordinary Stories / STORYTIME: This isn't working.
Transcript
- 0:00SPEAKER_00: Hey, it's Moe.
- 0:01SPEAKER_00: I apologize now.
- 0:02SPEAKER_00: My allergies are bad.
- 0:03SPEAKER_00: So I have the sniffles and I sound a little sick probably.
- 0:07SPEAKER_00: And I also don't feel like editing this episode in the slightest.
- 0:11SPEAKER_00: So I'm gonna attempt to speak slowly and I will trip over some of my words.
- 0:16SPEAKER_00: I don't know how.
- 0:17SPEAKER_00: Chat show hosts, just like press record and have a perfect show.
- 0:21SPEAKER_00: That is a true talent.
- 0:23SPEAKER_00: Okay.
- 0:24SPEAKER_00: I feel like our last episode was a hit.
- 0:26SPEAKER_00: It was you versus the attic, and we had four different prompt responses.
- 0:31SPEAKER_00: We had 10 listeners, two of which were me and my mom.
- 0:35SPEAKER_00: So eight listeners total.
- 0:37SPEAKER_00: I ended up getting really nice feedback from three of those listeners, which had me on cloud nine last week.
- 0:44SPEAKER_00: I was like, I finally figured it out.
- 0:46SPEAKER_00: This passion project is working.
- 0:50SPEAKER_00: And I felt a momentary sense of contentment that I don't get to feel enough.
- 0:56SPEAKER_00: But here we are one week later, and no one voted, and I don't have any more prompt responses to work with.
- 1:06SPEAKER_00: And after what feels like billions of emails sent out to production people and writing groups and prompt competitions, I just don't know how to crack this code.
- 1:16SPEAKER_00: And it's been a really tough week navigating that.
- 1:20SPEAKER_00: So, yeah, last Thursday I went to Lake Champlain with a microphone and two camping chairs in search for more stories for the podcast because the prompt competition part of the podcast is very slow going.
- 1:33SPEAKER_00: And I documented the whole thing and it ended up just being really sad.
- 1:38SPEAKER_00: Like so sad that I don't want to subject you to that energy.
- 1:41SPEAKER_00: I was excited to do a compilation episode.
- 1:43SPEAKER_00: It's not happening.
- 1:45SPEAKER_00: I was really hoping it would be one of those classic, is anything going to happen tropes?
- 1:50SPEAKER_00: Where a stranger sits down to tell their story right as I'm about to leave and save today's episode.
- 1:55SPEAKER_00: Like the stranger would save today's episode.
- 1:58SPEAKER_00: And that didn't happen.
- 2:00SPEAKER_00: I just cried a lot the rest of the night.
- 2:01SPEAKER_00: And my wonderful boyfriend took me out for dim sum to try and make me feel better.
- 2:06SPEAKER_00: Which it did.
- 2:06SPEAKER_00: It did make me feel better.
- 2:08SPEAKER_00: And then I cried later.
- 2:10SPEAKER_00: I've mentioned before marketing, social media, and just simply finding stories to be produced.
- 2:15SPEAKER_00: That's been my weakest link since 2019.
- 2:19SPEAKER_00: So seven years, and I keep trying the same method in a different container and hitting the same walls each time.
- 2:25SPEAKER_00: They say insanity is doing the same thing over and over and over again, and I think I'm about to go insane.
- 2:32SPEAKER_00: So this time I need a real pivot.
- 2:36SPEAKER_00: Okay, we reformatted the show a few episodes ago, and it didn't work.
- 2:42SPEAKER_00: I feel like you just know if something's working or not, and this there's parts of it that are working, but it's not working.
- 2:51SPEAKER_00: I will say there was one good thing that came from this podcast, and that was feedback.
- 2:56SPEAKER_00: Two people reached out after this last episode, I think.
- 3:01SPEAKER_00: No, I guess a few more, like over the course of the last five weeks.
- 3:05SPEAKER_00: People have reached out and said they enjoyed me as a host and they enjoyed my narrations, which was just really nice.
- 3:14SPEAKER_00: I'm gonna keep working with voice actors because I want to make a a project that can help other folks work on their portfolios, but that was like such a boost of confidence that I didn't realize I really needed to hear.
- 3:27SPEAKER_00: And it also ended up being a spark.
- 3:30SPEAKER_00: Remember me telling you in episode three about how I reached out to the Near Death Experience Research Foundation to make them a podcast?
- 3:38SPEAKER_00: Only they told me I wasn't able to reach out to the ND years directly.
- 3:42SPEAKER_00: So I was like, oh, okay, I guess I don't have a podcast here then.
- 3:46SPEAKER_00: Well, now I have enough confidence under my belt because of you folks to just read those stories.
- 3:55SPEAKER_00: Uh the Near Death Experience Research Foundation, they have thousands of submissions from people who died, experienced something unbelievable, and then came back to tell the tale.
- 4:08SPEAKER_00: And a lot of these people, it's not like they're out in the world trying to get people to hear their story.
- 4:14SPEAKER_00: It's like they just know they have this one safe corner of the internet where they can write out what happened to them and press send and know that someone's gonna read it and like believe them.
- 4:25SPEAKER_00: And then I also found out that they have two other research centers, one for pre-birth stories.
- 4:32SPEAKER_00: So people remember themselves from like before they were placed in the human vessel that they are today.
- 4:40SPEAKER_00: What?
- 4:42SPEAKER_00: And their other website presents out-of-body experiences that range from OBEs due to psychedelics to obes from alien encounters.
- 4:52SPEAKER_00: And you know, you know, I love Miso Aliens.
- 4:56SPEAKER_00: So I needed stories and I had access to them the whole time.
- 5:00SPEAKER_00: I just like couldn't see it in that lens.
- 5:03SPEAKER_00: So I'm pivoting back to that old project.
- 5:07SPEAKER_00: And this time I feel confident enough to read through these stories myself.
- 5:12SPEAKER_00: And maybe, maybe this is just how the trajectory needed to lay itself out.
- 5:18SPEAKER_00: And I'm really hoping that I still get the help of Faye and Dustin and whoever else might like to work on their voice acting chops.
- 5:26SPEAKER_00: I'm particularly excited about this project on a more personal level because I spend a lot of sleepless nights wondering about the unknown.
- 5:35SPEAKER_00: That's probably why I'm drawn to it all.
- 5:38SPEAKER_00: The void is scary.
- 5:40SPEAKER_00: Losing people is terrifying, and life just ending someday is so debilitating for me.
- 5:47SPEAKER_00: So I think that has naturally pulled me to other side phenomena my whole life.
- 5:54SPEAKER_00: If there's an inordinate amount of people recounting otherworldly experiences that validate the notion that wherever we came from and wherever we're going may not be so scary after all, I'll take it.
- 6:10SPEAKER_00: Because I could really use a good night's sleep.
- 6:12SPEAKER_00: You know what I'm saying?
- 6:16SPEAKER_00: And if my sound design skills and quest for peace can inspire other humans in any way, then it looks like we might have ourselves a new podcast, and I might have found a purpose in life.
- 6:29SPEAKER_00: So, yeah, thank you for being here with me.
- 6:33SPEAKER_00: I can't express that enough.
- 6:35SPEAKER_00: If you like my sonic vibe and dig crazy stories and you know otherworldly stuff, tune in next week for the last episode of You versus Everybody, where I will play for you the first episode of a new podcast.
- 6:53SPEAKER_00: A podcast that won't ask for anything, no listener participation.
- 6:58SPEAKER_00: Though I will probably keep my hotline.
- 7:00SPEAKER_00: I'm like really excited for that.
- 7:01SPEAKER_00: And I just know, I know someday I will have really fun voicemails to pull from the hotline.
- 7:08SPEAKER_00: Anyways, no prompts, just real life gripping, jaw-dropping stories to potentially help you with your own existential qualms.
- 7:20SPEAKER_00: The name of the podcast, I'm not sure yet.
- 7:23SPEAKER_00: It'll be a fun and hectic week figuring it all out in six days.
- 7:27SPEAKER_00: But I hope to see you next Tuesday.
- 7:29SPEAKER_00: If not, it's been really nice to have the opportunity to entertain you.
- 7:34SPEAKER_00: If you've got any feedback, comments, concerns, hit up our hotline.
- 7:38SPEAKER_00: Say goodbye, say hello, say whatever.
- 7:42SPEAKER_00: It's 802 308 3131.
- 7:47SPEAKER_00: Oh, I sound so sniffly.
- 7:49SPEAKER_00: I'm so sorry.
- 7:50SPEAKER_00: Okay, bye.
