- 2:16Speaker 3: I have more in that.
- 2:17Speaker 5: A little bit later on, Rob Reel from her sister

- 2:42Speaker 5: Steele for Putnam County Tourism is here.
- 2:44Speaker 3: Welcome to the show.
- 2:45Speaker 5: Kelly, good morning, first time that you've been in our
- 2:48Speaker 5: new place here.
- 2:49Speaker 6: Yeah, it's beautiful.
- 2:51Speaker 3: I worked hard on this.
- 2:52Speaker 6: I'm sure you did.
- 2:53Speaker 5: You believe that you've known me for a long time,
- 2:55Speaker 5: so you know how much manual labor that I do.
- 2:58Speaker 5: But we're very happy with our place. I'm happy to
- 3:01Speaker 5: have you here in our new studio as well. We
- 3:04Speaker 5: got some big things going on this weekend in Winfield.
- 3:07Speaker 6: That's right, talk about them. It is Windfield Watersports Weekend,
- 3:10Speaker 6: the Triple W. So we are looking forward to that.
- 3:13Speaker 6: Starting Friday evening at five thirty, food trucks open and
- 3:18Speaker 6: then at six pm there are free stand up paddle
- 3:21Speaker 6: board lessons and then following that at seven thirty free rentals,
- 3:25Speaker 6: all sponsored by the City of Winfield.
- 3:27Speaker 5: And I tell you, I was in Winfield last week
- 3:29Speaker 5: with her sister Station ninety eight seven the Mountain for
- 3:32Speaker 5: the Pause and Pistons car show that they did, and
- 3:37Speaker 5: a big shout out to Cody into Haley for putting
- 3:41Speaker 5: that show on.
- 3:41Speaker 3: Of course Mayor Randy Barrett as well. You. I mean,
- 3:44Speaker 3: that was a huge, huge event.
- 3:46Speaker 5: And I talked to the Mayor who wanted to join
- 3:49Speaker 5: us today, but he's got some things going on with
- 3:50Speaker 5: this family right now he couldn't join the same. But
- 3:52Speaker 5: Mayor Randy Barrett is just really excited about a lot
- 3:56Speaker 5: of these things that are going on in Winfield. I mean,
- 3:58Speaker 5: they're not all related to the fun stuff you and
- 3:59Speaker 5: I are to talking about, but Winfield is about to
- 4:02Speaker 5: get a whole lot bigger with I mean, they're the
- 4:04Speaker 5: major development going on there. But anyway, I say that
- 4:06Speaker 5: to say, Winfield, Putnam County is an exciting place to
- 4:09Speaker 5: be right now, and it will be this Friday and Saturday.
- 4:11Speaker 6: Yeah it will. And you know it's a great time
- 4:13Speaker 6: to come out. There's also live music I forgot to
- 4:15Speaker 6: mention that on Friday night from the Sled Dogs, and
- 4:19Speaker 6: then on Saturday there'll be a DJ and we'll have
- 4:21Speaker 6: the food trucks out again. Free lessons again begin at
- 4:27Speaker 6: eleven am and then sorry at noon, and there are
- 4:31Speaker 6: free lessons at noon, and then there are races that
- 4:34Speaker 6: you can sign up for either Friday night or Saturday,
- 4:36Speaker 6: and then we do a.
- 4:37Speaker 7: Rubber duck race.
- 4:38Speaker 6: So it's a fifty to fifty pot and the other
- 4:39Speaker 6: fifty percent that doesn't go to the winter goes to
- 4:42Speaker 6: support Putnam's the Backpack Buddies program there that helps feed
- 4:46Speaker 6: students over the summer.
- 4:47Speaker 5: I just had Dougar went on the show on Monday
- 4:50Speaker 5: talking about there they're going to be packing the backpacks
- 4:53Speaker 5: on Saturday at the Nazarene church there In days Valley
- 4:57Speaker 5: Kelly talk about the growth of that area as it
- 5:02Speaker 5: pertains to really working with the river there, working with
- 5:06Speaker 5: the water. I mean, I did a little interview that's
- 5:08Speaker 5: going to air later this week with Mayor Barrett. Then
- 5:10Speaker 5: that's going to air on the news programs. And this
- 5:13Speaker 5: is a community that is really really rallying around the
- 5:16Speaker 5: river and this stand up paddle boarding thing, which I
- 5:18Speaker 5: knew absolutely nothing about ten years ago.
- 5:20Speaker 3: It's huge. It is.
- 5:22Speaker 6: You know, it's an unusual location on the river. You
- 5:25Speaker 6: think of the Kanal River and it's heavily trafficked in
- 5:28Speaker 6: a lot of places, but this is right upstream from
- 5:31Speaker 6: the lock and dam, so you get more lakelight conditions.
- 5:33Speaker 6: It's a great place to learn to paddle, especially on
- 5:36Speaker 6: the weekends where you don't have quite as much barge traffic.
- 5:40Speaker 6: It's really like being on a lake. And I paddled
- 5:43Speaker 6: for the first time probably I think eight years ago.
- 5:45Speaker 6: I had gone out when I first got this job
- 5:49Speaker 6: and was just watching and there were some folks twenty
- 5:52Speaker 6: or thirty years older than me out there paddling, and
- 5:54Speaker 6: I thought, well, if they can do it, I can
- 5:55Speaker 6: do I can.
- 5:56Speaker 7: Do it, surely.
- 5:57Speaker 6: And it's really a lot of fun and more accessible
- 6:01Speaker 6: than you might imagine if you've never done it.
- 6:03Speaker 5: And I have learned a lot from our mutual friend
- 6:05Speaker 5: Evian Young about this. He's been on the show in
- 6:07Speaker 5: the past and this is this is just a passion
- 6:10Speaker 5: of his. The whole being on the water thing and Windfield,
- 6:14Speaker 5: I think is to be congratulated because they've done a
- 6:17Speaker 5: great job of trying to just wrap themselves up up
- 6:22Speaker 5: in this. Got to talk about the weather because there
- 6:25Speaker 5: is rain in the forecast, so how does that affect thinks?
- 6:27Speaker 5: It looks like from listening to my buddy Brian Hughes,
- 6:29Speaker 5: this morning looks like some rain Friday, almost like what
- 6:32Speaker 5: we had last week, and rain on Friday evening, but
- 6:34Speaker 5: then it clears up about midday Saturday.
- 6:36Speaker 3: How might that impact your activities on Friday?
- 6:38Speaker 6: You know, we want to make sure first and foremost
- 6:40Speaker 6: that folks are safe. So if there is lightning, we
- 6:43Speaker 6: won't be having people out on the river. That would
- 6:45Speaker 6: not be wise. But otherwise, if it's just a light result,
- 6:48Speaker 6: like I put a rain jacket on, come on out.
- 6:50Speaker 6: There is a picnic shelter pavilion, bring your umbrella. You
- 6:54Speaker 6: can still enjoy some music. But as long as it's
- 6:56Speaker 6: safe to be out We'll still be out there.
- 6:58Speaker 3: And you know you mentioned the group the Sled Dog.
- 7:00Speaker 3: This is gonna be for me.
- 7:01Speaker 5: You know a little bit of something about that group here,
- 7:03Speaker 5: like you're you're a groupie there.
- 7:04Speaker 6: We have a groopye and and I sing a few
- 7:06Speaker 6: songs sometimes. My husband's in that band. I did not
- 7:09Speaker 6: know that, you saying, yeah, surprise.
- 7:11Speaker 3: Okay, I don't know.
- 7:13Speaker 5: Yeah, So okay, Yeah, they're they're a fantastic group.
- 7:16Speaker 3: I mean that they really are. And uh uh.
- 7:18Speaker 5: And and that that guy you're married to is not
- 7:20Speaker 5: bad either, He's pretty good.
- 7:22Speaker 3: You should Slid Dogs are a great group.
- 7:24Speaker 5: By the way, The Dave Allen Showing five eighty Live
- 7:26Speaker 5: is brought to you part by your hometown baseball team,
- 7:28Speaker 5: the Charleston Dirty Birds. Birds are at High Point tonight
- 7:31Speaker 5: and back at Gomart Ballpark on Tuesday, June tenth. For tickets,
- 7:34Speaker 5: promotion schedules, and more, visit dirty Birds baseball dot com.
- 7:37Speaker 5: We'll get back to the water sports weekend coming up
- 7:39Speaker 5: here momentarily.
- 7:40Speaker 3: We'll go over with the schedule and things of that nature.
- 7:42Speaker 3: But I want to talk about uh.
- 7:44Speaker 5: Your the executive director of Putnam County Tourism uh, exciting
- 7:48Speaker 5: time this summer.
- 7:49Speaker 3: A lot of things going on at Putnam County.
- 7:51Speaker 6: That's right. We have not only is Whinfield water sports
- 7:54Speaker 6: going on this weekend, but the Cares Sensory Circus, the
- 7:57Speaker 6: fundraiser and community event for CARES. I believe Joe was
- 8:00Speaker 6: on here recently. I'll talking about that. And then later
- 8:04Speaker 6: in the month we have the West Virginia Coffee Festival,
- 8:06Speaker 6: first first ever coffee festival, which sold out in a day.
- 8:10Speaker 6: So sold out for vendors or no, they sold out
- 8:14Speaker 6: their tickets.
- 8:14Speaker 3: They sold out the tickets. Yeah, so okay.
- 8:16Speaker 6: You know, maybe you can buy one on the on
- 8:18Speaker 6: the on the second hand market. I don't know how
- 8:20Speaker 6: that works.
- 8:21Speaker 5: If we're scalping coffee festival tickets. You know, when Justin
- 8:24Speaker 5: Williams there told me about this idea that they had
- 8:27Speaker 5: to do a coffee festival, and he and I talked
- 8:29Speaker 5: about this, he said, look, I put something up online
- 8:31Speaker 5: about it, and he said, and immediately people were.
- 8:33Speaker 3: All about this. I didn't realize though, that it was
- 8:35Speaker 3: sold out to the public.
- 8:37Speaker 6: Yeah, they sold out nine hundred tickets in about a day.
- 8:40Speaker 3: And it's going to be at Valley Park.
- 8:41Speaker 6: It will be at Valley Park.
- 8:42Speaker 8: That's right.
- 8:43Speaker 3: And when is that again?
- 8:44Speaker 6: It's at the last I believe, the last Saturday in June.
- 8:47Speaker 3: Okay.
- 8:47Speaker 6: Then we have Putnam County Fair every every July coming up,
- 8:51Speaker 6: and it's just they're always. You know, you can check
- 8:54Speaker 6: our events calendar at visit PUTNAMWV dot com. But we
- 8:57Speaker 6: have so many things going on all summer throughout Putnham County,
- 9:00Speaker 6: regardless of whether you want to be outside or inside,
- 9:04Speaker 6: if you have kids, there are lots of fun activities
- 9:06Speaker 6: for young, young families and people of all ages really.
- 9:11Speaker 5: And I think sometimes people look at Putnam County and I'm
- 9:13Speaker 5: a little bit biased because you know, I've lived there
- 9:15Speaker 5: for the last eleven years. But people look at Putnam County, well,
- 9:18Speaker 5: there's nothing.
- 9:18Speaker 3: It's a bedroom community.
- 9:19Speaker 5: Everybody either commutes into Charleston, and trust me, I'm one
- 9:22Speaker 5: of them. There's a lot of people that come into
- 9:23Speaker 5: Charleston and a lot of people go to Huntington as well.
- 9:26Speaker 5: But Putnam County has got a lot of stuff, a
- 9:29Speaker 5: lot of stuff going on. And I talked about what's
- 9:31Speaker 5: going on in Winfield. There are some major housing developments
- 9:34Speaker 5: going in there. There's a couple of subdivisions being played
- 9:37Speaker 5: there and people this is like what they said Putnam
- 9:40Speaker 5: County was like I wasn't there, but what they said
- 9:42Speaker 5: Putnham County was like in the nineteen nineties when all
- 9:44Speaker 5: these people used to be nothing but farmland, and all
- 9:47Speaker 5: these people are coming in and we're seeing that again,
- 9:50Speaker 5: I mean with it. I mean, it's just unbelieviad. The
- 9:53Speaker 5: joke is, and our listeners have heard me say this
- 9:55Speaker 5: on the air more than once. If you take your
- 9:57Speaker 5: curtains or you're blind down to clean them, somebody's trying
- 9:59Speaker 5: to buy your house. That's what it's like in Putnam
- 10:02Speaker 5: County right now.
- 10:02Speaker 3: That's right.
- 10:03Speaker 6: It is growing quite a bit. I mean we have
- 10:05Speaker 6: both growth and business, both growth and folks wanting to
- 10:08Speaker 6: move there. Our schools are fantastic. I'm very thankful my
- 10:11Speaker 6: kids are both in Puttnam County schools. And so it's
- 10:14Speaker 6: just an area. It's a thriving community. We have great
- 10:17Speaker 6: outdoor recreation. It's a good place to live and so
- 10:21Speaker 6: I don't see that slowing down anytime soon.
- 10:23Speaker 5: All right, let's get back to the activities. The schedule
- 10:26Speaker 5: again for the water sports weekend.
- 10:28Speaker 6: Yeah, so sorry, not tomorrow. This is Wednesday. On Friday
- 10:32Speaker 6: evening things kick off at five point thirty with food
- 10:35Speaker 6: trucks opening, and then at six pm you can get
- 10:37Speaker 6: your free step, your stand up paddle board lessons, and
- 10:41Speaker 6: then there's a sunset float in rentals for those if
- 10:43Speaker 6: you don't have you can bring your kayak or your
- 10:45Speaker 6: paddle board out if you have one, but if not,
- 10:47Speaker 6: we'll have rentals available for free. I call them rentals.
- 10:49Speaker 6: You can just take take your the thing out on
- 10:53Speaker 6: the water. And then Saturday there I also failed to
- 10:56Speaker 6: mention there as a paddle swap that begins at nine.
- 10:59Speaker 6: So if you have stuff, if you have old if
- 11:01Speaker 6: you like went on a COVID buying spree for paddle
- 11:05Speaker 6: paddle stuff, bring it out and you can sell it,
- 11:08Speaker 6: you can swap it. And if you don't sell it
- 11:09Speaker 6: and you want to donate it, we're coordinating a donation
- 11:12Speaker 6: to Camp Appalachia for kids to use out there. And
- 11:16Speaker 6: so that is from nine to noon. There's a five
- 11:18Speaker 6: K paddle and float at ten am, and then the
- 11:22Speaker 6: food trucks and everything kicks off really at eleven and
- 11:26Speaker 6: then there's a safety training and the rentals and the
- 11:28Speaker 6: races and all that really kicks off at noon, so
- 11:31Speaker 6: you want to be there at noon. And you can
- 11:34Speaker 6: buy your ducks for the Rubber Duck race on our website.
- 11:37Speaker 6: You do not have to be present to win, so
- 11:38Speaker 6: folks can check those out now, all right.
- 11:40Speaker 5: And where is the best place to get that information
- 11:43Speaker 5: that you just put out there?
- 11:44Speaker 6: Yeah, you can go to Winfieldwatersports dot com. Or you
- 11:46Speaker 6: can find Puttnham County Tourism on Facebook and we've got
- 11:49Speaker 6: the Facebook event there. It's probably the you know people,
- 11:51Speaker 6: people don't remember that you are. I'll just come find
- 11:53Speaker 6: us on Facebook, all right.

- 14:56Speaker 5: Who's Salisbury from the Charleston Airy Alliance is going to
- 14:59Speaker 5: join us a a little bit later on Tomorrow is
- 15:03Speaker 5: the day that we are going to ask you, the
- 15:05Speaker 5: greatest listeners in the world, to show up as you
- 15:08Speaker 5: always have, as we are asking for people to drop
- 15:11Speaker 5: us off some snacks Tomorrow seven am to six pm
- 15:14Speaker 5: on our parking night eleven eleven, Virginia Treaty Charleston the
- 15:17Speaker 5: brainchild of one rob.
- 15:19Speaker 10: Real, doesn't one have to have a brain to be
- 15:23Speaker 10: to create a brain child? I if anybody sorry about that?
- 15:29Speaker 10: If anybody, I'm trying to get to the list is
- 15:32Speaker 10: what I'm trying to have in front of me.
- 15:34Speaker 5: The I've actually got it. Oh good, good for you.
- 15:37Speaker 5: You're you're better. You're better at this whole radio thing.
- 15:40Speaker 5: Well somewhere you can't keep talking. I'll find it.
- 15:42Speaker 3: I got it now.
- 15:44Speaker 10: So seventy thousand West Virginia kids are in food insecure situations.
- 15:49Speaker 10: One in five two thirds of West Virginia school kids
- 15:53Speaker 10: qualify for free or reduced lunch and guess what school's
- 15:57Speaker 10: out for summer. There are kids who certain won't eat
- 16:00Speaker 10: enough and some who won't eat at all because their
- 16:04Speaker 10: schools aren't able to do breakfast and lunch programs during
- 16:08Speaker 10: the summer. So we've filled in some other gaps before
- 16:12Speaker 10: with our drop events. We do the Turkey drop to
- 16:14Speaker 10: feed families during the holidays around Thanksgivings. When we do that,
- 16:18Speaker 10: mid January is our Drop your Socks drive through for
- 16:23Speaker 10: collecting socks to keep folks warm over the winter. So
- 16:27Speaker 10: is there something we can do in the summer is
- 16:28Speaker 10: there in need we can fill, and we stumbled onto
- 16:31Speaker 10: this pretty big one. And so with the help of
- 16:34Speaker 10: Jason and Mighty Joe and everybody at Union Mission, we
- 16:37Speaker 10: are going to collect non perishable snacks all day tomorrow,
- 16:40Speaker 10: seven in the morning till six in the evening here
- 16:42Speaker 10: on Virginia Street East.
- 16:43Speaker 3: And thank kind of things we are looking for.
- 16:45Speaker 10: We're looking for I mentioned goldfish crackers are a.
- 16:48Speaker 3: Big, big deal.
- 16:50Speaker 10: Individual boxed cereal orange juice and grape juice cups G
- 16:55Speaker 10: two that's the sugar free gatorade, oatmeal, chips, ramen kind bar,
- 17:00Speaker 10: prepackaged cheese and crackers, prepackaged cookies.
- 17:03Speaker 3: These are all on the I don't want to.
- 17:06Speaker 10: Say approved list, the appropriate list, Yes, yeah, yea, that
- 17:09Speaker 10: we got from Union Mission.
- 17:11Speaker 3: We're not going to turn stuff away. That's that's not
- 17:12Speaker 3: who we are.
- 17:13Speaker 10: And we're definitely not going to turn away cash and
- 17:15Speaker 10: check donations because there's the power of buying in bulk.
- 17:18Speaker 3: I mean, you do it when you go to.
- 17:19Speaker 10: Whatever club store that you go to, So why not
- 17:22Speaker 10: take advantage of that with Union Mission as well.
- 17:24Speaker 5: Yeah, and again, the thing about collecting the cash is
- 17:28Speaker 5: and it's great that we can have people to drop
- 17:30Speaker 5: off their snacks.
- 17:31Speaker 3: As you said, we're not going to turn anything down.
- 17:32Speaker 5: But the great thing about the cash is is that
- 17:34Speaker 5: we can give it directly, I mean on site. The
- 17:37Speaker 5: people from Union Mission are going to be here, so
- 17:38Speaker 5: we give it to Jason and the folks there and
- 17:41Speaker 5: they they do this. Yes, they're a lot better at it.
- 17:45Speaker 5: You know, they know what to do, they know where
- 17:47Speaker 5: the deals are, things.
- 17:48Speaker 3: Of that nature.
- 17:49Speaker 10: There's part of me that wants to say they'll put
- 17:51Speaker 10: that money to work the next day on Friday. I
- 17:53Speaker 10: think I know them well enough to know that they'll
- 17:56Speaker 10: put it to work that day, like somebody will do
- 17:59Speaker 10: a midday Collie election of what we've got on cash
- 18:01Speaker 10: and start filling in gaps in the midday tomorrow. So
- 18:06Speaker 10: this is maybe the fastest turnaround we're going to have
- 18:10Speaker 10: on any of these events, because they're kids out of
- 18:13Speaker 10: school and they are kids who need to eat.
- 18:14Speaker 5: Yeah, Kaddon County schools ended over the last couple days.
- 18:17Speaker 5: And think Putnam Counties later is later this week. I
- 18:19Speaker 5: think it's I think it's tomorrow. I think for some
- 18:22Speaker 5: reason I got that in my head. So yeah, and
- 18:25Speaker 5: you're you're right. I mean and there are various programs
- 18:28Speaker 5: out there that do this, but you really can't do enough.
- 18:31Speaker 5: Because I had the folks from the Backpack Buddies program
- 18:33Speaker 5: on the show on Monday. They're a fantastic organization and
- 18:37Speaker 5: there I'll give them a little plug there. But they're
- 18:39Speaker 5: packing event is Saturday at the Church of at the
- 18:44Speaker 5: Nazarene Church there in Taye Valley, and I mean they
- 18:46Speaker 5: mail out thousands of boxes of food to get to
- 18:49Speaker 5: these kids. And that's a wonderful program. Yes, and there
- 18:51Speaker 5: are others that are doing similar things, but there's always
- 18:54Speaker 5: a need and you can't have enough. It's it's almost
- 18:57Speaker 5: a Swiss cheese sort of map of places that have
- 19:01Speaker 5: organizations like Backpack Buddies who are already filling this need
- 19:05Speaker 5: that is terrific.
- 19:06Speaker 10: Thank you for doing that work. We're now trying to
- 19:09Speaker 10: come along and fill in as many of those holes
- 19:11Speaker 10: where communities can't or don't have the resources to do
- 19:15Speaker 10: this sort of thing.
- 19:16Speaker 5: Doctor to Rob Real again from a sister station ninety

- 19:36Speaker 5: start your journey towards better health today. And this is
- 19:39Speaker 5: another one of those events too, that all of our
- 19:41Speaker 5: stations are involved. You know, we're gonna have you know,
- 19:44Speaker 5: obviously you kind of spearheaded this thing, but ninety eight
- 19:46Speaker 5: seven a Mountain V one hundred debat CHS Charleston's ESPN
- 19:51Speaker 5: Radio KAZ We're gonna be out there all day on
- 19:55Speaker 5: the parking lot. And again, just like on of these
- 19:58Speaker 5: other things that Rob talked about, you don't have to
- 20:00Speaker 5: get out of your car. So if you're and tomorrow
- 20:03Speaker 5: it's going to be you know, we've gone from one
- 20:05Speaker 5: extreme to the.
- 20:05Speaker 3: Other with the weather.
- 20:06Speaker 5: It's going to be like one hundred and eighty eight
- 20:08Speaker 5: or something like that on the pavement there tomorrow, So
- 20:11Speaker 5: you don't have to get out of that nice air
- 20:13Speaker 5: conditioned car. All you gonna do is just pull up
- 20:15Speaker 5: and pull out.
- 20:16Speaker 10: For those of you playing our home game, I live
- 20:17Speaker 10: close enough that I walked to and from work, and
- 20:21Speaker 10: I had took a little break to run back and
- 20:23Speaker 10: forth because I've got some things coming up later today.
- 20:26Speaker 10: And it's already sweltering, and it's nine thirty in the morning,
- 20:31Speaker 10: and I'm somebody who served in the sandbox in full uniform.
- 20:34Speaker 3: It's hot today and it fitting to be tomorrow.
- 20:37Speaker 10: So crank the ac up and roll through our oblong
- 20:41Speaker 10: elliptical parking lot and roll down your window long enough
- 20:44Speaker 10: to say, hey, radio monkey, grab the stuff out of
- 20:48Speaker 10: the back.
- 20:48Speaker 3: I'll pop the hatch.
- 20:50Speaker 10: And it's and it's going to be a truckload of
- 20:52Speaker 10: West Virginia Radio Hall of Famers too, Steve and Jenny,
- 20:55Speaker 10: and you got Jeff Jenkins bumping around, and Gorse Woody
- 20:59Speaker 10: Woods and then me.
- 21:01Speaker 3: And yeah and me and Steve Animal.
- 21:03Speaker 10: Oh yeah, Steve Animal. He's not even allowed in the
- 21:06Speaker 10: Hall of Fame for lunch.
- 21:07Speaker 5: No, no, but but again, and this is not something
- 21:11Speaker 5: that's got to be very expensive if people don't want
- 21:13Speaker 5: to take the their route of buying things, because you could,
- 21:15Speaker 5: you could. And I don't want to promote any one
- 21:17Speaker 5: story of the other, but I'll just throw it out
- 21:19Speaker 5: there as an example. You can hit up your dollar
- 21:21Speaker 5: general you can hit up your dollar tree. You can
- 21:23Speaker 5: hit up if you're somebody that does as you mentioned,
- 21:25Speaker 5: buying bulk, you know you can. You can get things
- 21:27Speaker 5: from Sam's, but we don't. You could bring us an
- 21:30Speaker 5: entire box like that you would see at a restaurant,
- 21:35Speaker 5: or you can bring us two.
- 21:37Speaker 3: Bags of chips.
- 21:38Speaker 10: I am somebody who budgets within my finances to do
- 21:42Speaker 10: this sort of thing, and I have the wherewithal that
- 21:44Speaker 10: I can. You know, this afternoon, I'm going to go
- 21:46Speaker 10: drop about two hundred bucks on snacks, because that's that's
- 21:49Speaker 10: who I am, and I've kind of built my life
- 21:50Speaker 10: to be able to do these sorts of things. Not
- 21:52Speaker 10: everybody can do that, to be sure. You know, if
- 21:56Speaker 10: if you've got like a five in your wallet and
- 21:58Speaker 10: that's all you can spare, believe me, it will be
- 22:00Speaker 10: put to work. If you're doing your grocery run at
- 22:03Speaker 10: you know, walmartin Southridge, good luck with the traffic, bless
- 22:06Speaker 10: your heart, and you get goldfish crackers, you get like
- 22:10Speaker 10: one of those twelve things snack things for the kids,
- 22:12Speaker 10: and you can afford like one more of those, Grab
- 22:15Speaker 10: that and we will take that. If you know you're
- 22:18Speaker 10: doing the two for five dollars bags of chips, and
- 22:20Speaker 10: you want to keep one and bring us, we will
- 22:22Speaker 10: do that.
- 22:23Speaker 3: We will put it all to work to feed West
- 22:25Speaker 3: Virginia kids. That's what the whole thing is about it again.
- 22:28Speaker 3: Union Mission.
- 22:28Speaker 5: Those folks, Jason and the folks just do a fantastic
- 22:32Speaker 5: job over there of helping out.
- 22:34Speaker 3: I mean, and they've always they've.
- 22:35Speaker 5: Been a partner in several different things that we've done,
- 22:37Speaker 5: from the Drop your Socks to most I was just
- 22:39Speaker 5: kind of joking about the weather because we did the
- 22:42Speaker 5: first I think the first drop your Socks event that
- 22:46Speaker 5: we did was the first one of the second one
- 22:47Speaker 5: that was one that was really really cold. I mean
- 22:49Speaker 5: they were both cold, but that this one was the
- 22:51Speaker 5: one that was really cold.
- 22:53Speaker 10: I don't remember which one it was, but one of
- 22:56Speaker 10: them happened between two snowstorms.
- 22:58Speaker 3: Yes, so I think that was the first year.
- 23:01Speaker 10: Well, yeah, so it had snowed on Monday or Tuesday,
- 23:03Speaker 10: and it was all still on the ground in bitter cold,
- 23:05Speaker 10: and we're standing out and it's still wet and we're
- 23:07Speaker 10: standing out in it, and then it starts snowing later
- 23:10Speaker 10: that evening.
- 23:11Speaker 3: As we're wrapping.
- 23:11Speaker 10: Things up, it's those sorts of things that sort of
- 23:17Speaker 10: remind us why we're out there and doing it, so
- 23:19Speaker 10: that the heat and being hungry tomorrow is going to
- 23:22Speaker 10: remind us why we do it. And I say this
- 23:25Speaker 10: all the time. I am continually impressed, astounded, but not
- 23:30Speaker 10: the least bit surprised at the way West Virginians come
- 23:34Speaker 10: through for West Virginians every single time.
- 23:36Speaker 3: It's kind it's kind of what we do. Yeah, it's
- 23:38Speaker 3: kind of what we do.
- 23:38Speaker 5: And you've seen it in a couple of your things
- 23:40Speaker 5: that the different promotions that you've done as well. And
- 23:42Speaker 5: I think people do need to realize and there may
- 23:47Speaker 5: be people listening to this right now we're saying, what
- 23:49Speaker 5: do you mean these kids don't have food? There's a
- 23:52Speaker 5: lot of them, and I know, and I know firsthand.
- 23:55Speaker 5: Back in the back in the day, our next door
- 23:57Speaker 5: neighbor in a former place we lived was a was
- 24:01Speaker 5: an elementary school principal, and he was a very sensitive guy.
- 24:06Speaker 5: And his thing was, he said, it breaks my heart
- 24:10Speaker 5: knowing that when those kids get on the bus at
- 24:12Speaker 5: three o'clock on Friday, many of them don't have any
- 24:16Speaker 5: food until they come back on Monday. That's the reality,
- 24:19Speaker 5: and that that actually happens in the greatest country on
- 24:22Speaker 5: God's green Earth.
- 24:23Speaker 3: It happens every day.
- 24:24Speaker 10: Well, and I'm somebody who has lived I'm the most
- 24:27Speaker 10: traveled person here at WVRC Media by far. I've lived
- 24:30Speaker 10: in seventeen states and three other countries. And so I'm
- 24:34Speaker 10: not just mouthing it when I say West Virginians go
- 24:36Speaker 10: that extra mile. We may take that for granted, we
- 24:39Speaker 10: kind of velocitize to well, this is just what we do.
- 24:42Speaker 10: Believe me, it's what we do. But it's not what
- 24:44Speaker 10: everybody does. Taking care of our friends and neighbors this way.
- 24:48Speaker 10: And I've had some up close experiences with the foster
- 24:53Speaker 10: system and addiction and some of the underbelly of social services,
- 25:00Speaker 10: and there are there are situations where kids are having
- 25:06Speaker 10: their their parents are taking away food and snacks to
- 25:09Speaker 10: fence them to get the next hit. That's that's a
- 25:13Speaker 10: harsh thing to have to say out loud, but it's
- 25:15Speaker 10: really happening. There are kids who are not eating because
- 25:18Speaker 10: of poverty and addiction. And if we can do even
- 25:21Speaker 10: a little bit for that, I'm on board.
- 25:23Speaker 5: All right, seven am until six pm that's the time tomorrow,
- 25:27Speaker 5: and we'll have I think Jay, I'm gonna have Jason
- 25:29Speaker 5: come in the studio with this tomorrow and you and
- 25:31Speaker 5: whoever else you can drink. That's one of the great
- 25:33Speaker 5: things about one of the great things about having this
- 25:34Speaker 5: big studio here is.
- 25:36Speaker 3: That we can have a lot of people here.
- 25:37Speaker 10: The hardest part about what you just said, though, is
- 25:40Speaker 10: going to be getting us off the parking lot.
- 25:42Speaker 3: Well, that's true.
- 25:42Speaker 10: I don't presume to speak for Jason, but I my
- 25:45Speaker 10: sense of him is we're a lot of like that.
- 25:47Speaker 10: We want to be out there, sleeves rolled up, doing
- 25:49Speaker 10: the work. Yeah, so getting us in here just finally.
- 25:51Speaker 5: Yeah, you can always call Let's let's go live to
- 25:55Speaker 5: the parking calling for the park Let's just run a
- 25:57Speaker 5: really long mic cord.
- 25:58Speaker 3: Let's see if we can do that. You know, you
- 26:00Speaker 3: want to be the first time.
- 26:01Speaker 5: You want to know a quick story about that, and
- 26:05Speaker 5: you know, you get Robin here and then we'll start
- 26:06Speaker 5: telling old radio stories all day. We should get a podcast, idea.
- 26:11Speaker 5: It's a great idea. It's a great idea for us
- 26:13Speaker 5: to have a podcast. Uh that's an inside joke.
- 26:16Speaker 3: But we'll tell you when you're older. Nineteen eighty eight
- 26:21Speaker 3: or so. I'm on I'm seventeen years old kid, still
- 26:24Speaker 3: in black and white at WLOG.
- 26:25Speaker 5: Radio and Logan, which no longer exists, and they used
- 26:29Speaker 5: to do a gospel scene every Labor Day on what
- 26:35Speaker 5: we called Courthouse Square it really wasn't Courthouse Square but downtown.
- 26:39Speaker 5: And we got this bright we meaning the management of
- 26:42Speaker 5: this Briday, We're going to broadcast this thing live. So
- 26:46Speaker 5: this is before cell phones. We didn't have the proper equipment.
- 26:49Speaker 5: I mean I was making three thirty five an hour,
- 26:51Speaker 5: and I think all the announcers were at that time.
- 26:55Speaker 5: We ran a mic cable from our our radio station,
- 27:00Speaker 5: which U and I. You're not supposed to mention the
- 27:04Speaker 5: other other stations. I get that, But in Charleston in
- 27:08Speaker 5: the afternoon on another radio station, there is a there's
- 27:11Speaker 5: a guy. He and I worked there together, and we
- 27:15Speaker 5: ran mike cable from the top of this mountain all
- 27:19Speaker 5: the way down steps through the streets of Logan and
- 27:25Speaker 5: we broadcast the event lot. Guess how many trips we
- 27:28Speaker 5: had to make down those steps to get down there
- 27:31Speaker 5: because somebody because somebody said hey, what's this and unplugged
- 27:34Speaker 5: it or they ran over it or something. It seemed
- 27:37Speaker 5: like a good idea at the time.
- 27:40Speaker 10: The title of his upcoming memoir. It seemed like a
- 27:43Speaker 10: good idea at the time. So I'll tell you about
- 27:46Speaker 10: I've run Mike Cable before. All right, seven am to
- 27:49Speaker 10: six pm tomorrow drop your snacks Union mission. Thank you
- 27:52Speaker 10: so much, Rob, Thank you as always my friend, and
- 27:55Speaker 10: we will talk to you again tomorrow.

- 31:50Speaker 5: There you go, great answer. WV Bargains dot Com Go
- 31:54Speaker 5: go check it out.
- 31:55Speaker 3: It'll be going on through Friday. All right, So Susie
- 31:57Speaker 3: is here from the Charleston Lights. How have you been?
- 31:59Speaker 2: What's going on with i' mean going great? We've got
- 32:02Speaker 2: a lot of exciting things going on. If you haven't
- 32:04Speaker 2: had an opportunity, might drive by our property at eleven
- 32:07Speaker 2: sixteen Smith Street. We have a lot of renovation going
- 32:10Speaker 2: on and that's very exciting. But I think the first
- 32:13Speaker 2: thing I'd like to talk about is our partnership with
- 32:16Speaker 2: an organization called the City Center Business Improvement District.
- 32:21Speaker 8: Just a little history on it.
- 32:23Speaker 2: This is an effort that allows property owners, not the businesses,
- 32:29Speaker 2: the property owners in a designated area to assess themselves
- 32:33Speaker 2: a fee to make improvements in that area.
- 32:37Speaker 8: That's about as simple as I can put it.
- 32:39Speaker 2: So, the West Virginia legislature passed enabling legislation like back
- 32:43Speaker 2: in the late nineties and Morgantown it was the only
- 32:47Speaker 2: one that had actually used this tool for economic development
- 32:51Speaker 2: in downtowns, and they used it as a way to
- 32:55Speaker 2: provide match money for streetscape improvements. So anytime you draw
- 33:00Speaker 2: down a federal grant for streetscape improvements, you have to
- 33:04Speaker 2: match it by at least twenty percent. So the property
- 33:07Speaker 2: in Morgantown, the property owners got together and said, we
- 33:10Speaker 2: want to come up with a match to draw down
- 33:12Speaker 2: these federal grants. So they did it block by block,
- 33:15Speaker 2: and this is when High Street was being redeveloped and
- 33:18Speaker 2: then it expired. They do have a sunset of ten
- 33:21Speaker 2: years unless you renew them. So we had property owners.
- 33:25Speaker 2: We have talked about business improvement districts for fifteen years
- 33:30Speaker 2: in Charleston and then when the new administration came in
- 33:34Speaker 2: Mayor Goodwin and she made a real commitment to investing
- 33:38Speaker 2: in the Slack Plaza redevelopment, the physical park itself, and
- 33:44Speaker 2: the property owners said, you know what the city is investing,
- 33:47Speaker 2: maybe we need this is our opportunity to try to
- 33:51Speaker 2: form a bid. Bid is the acronym that we use
- 33:54Speaker 2: for business improvement district and we'll put our money up
- 33:58Speaker 2: since the city has already put their money up, so
- 34:02Speaker 2: there's a whole process to do it. It has to
- 34:04Speaker 2: be formed by an ordinance through City Council. That's how
- 34:07Speaker 2: they enabling legislation was written, and we got a three
- 34:12Speaker 2: We worked during COVID, which ended up being the perfect
- 34:16Speaker 2: time because it gave us time to really make a
- 34:18Speaker 2: lot of contacts with all of the property owners and
- 34:21Speaker 2: explain to them what it was how their little bit
- 34:24Speaker 2: of money would leverage additional money. So we got it,
- 34:27Speaker 2: we got it formed, and we're now in our pretty
- 34:31Speaker 2: active third going in fourth year of operation. So we
- 34:36Speaker 2: have this group and it is a whole separate organization.
- 34:39Speaker 2: They contact with the Charleston Area Alliance for a lot
- 34:42Speaker 2: of their grant management, administrative services, and marketing. So the
- 34:48Speaker 2: property owners now have agreed if you can believe that
- 34:52Speaker 2: that we were charging ourselves and the money runs through
- 34:56Speaker 2: City Council. Therefore our work plan and our budget that
- 35:00Speaker 2: has to be approved by city council.
- 35:01Speaker 8: And that's what happened on Monday night.
- 35:04Speaker 2: So they assess themselves and it's a formula based on
- 35:07Speaker 2: how much land square footage they have and how much
- 35:10Speaker 2: square footage of the improvements on the property basically the
- 35:14Speaker 2: building that's on the property.
- 35:16Speaker 8: So it's a formula.
- 35:18Speaker 2: We have property owners that pay anywhere from two hundred
- 35:21Speaker 2: dollars a year up to fourteen thousand dollars a year,
- 35:26Speaker 2: but the total budget is only around ninety three thousand dollars.
- 35:31Speaker 2: And the whole bid was formed as we want to
- 35:36Speaker 2: really focus on cleanliness, safety and activation. And the area
- 35:45Speaker 2: is basically several blocks that surround City Center at Slack Plaza.
- 35:50Speaker 2: So the biggest part of their budget expenses is they
- 35:54Speaker 2: hire a full time what's called a bid ambassador, and
- 35:58Speaker 2: that's Sydney Gillis. And if you spend any time down
- 36:01Speaker 2: there Monday through Friday, you'll see Sydney out and about.
- 36:05Speaker 2: He walks around the bid, he picks up trash, he
- 36:08Speaker 2: waters the planters, but what most of his time is
- 36:11Speaker 2: spent is getting to know the property owners, getting to
- 36:14Speaker 2: know the businesses. And he helps a lot with people
- 36:18Speaker 2: that are transitioning through the business Improvement District area, giving
- 36:23Speaker 2: them direction. I mean, he's a true ambassador. He gives
- 36:25Speaker 2: them directions. He if there's an issue with a tree
- 36:29Speaker 2: that's along the streetscape, he knows who to call. It
- 36:32Speaker 2: the city to get the tree fixed, but he also
- 36:36Speaker 2: helps with some.
- 36:37Speaker 8: Of our unhoused community.
- 36:39Speaker 2: He has a very close relationship with the care Seam
- 36:41Speaker 2: through the City of Charleston, so as people need help,
- 36:45Speaker 2: he knows exactly who to call to get them that help.
- 36:48Speaker 2: So he's working on beautification, he's working on safety and security,
- 36:54Speaker 2: and he's also truly a tourism ambassador directing people throughout
- 36:59Speaker 2: our cities. So that he is our biggest budget item.
- 37:05Speaker 2: But the nice thing about the way the bit of
- 37:07Speaker 2: structured it has allowed us to take those funds that
- 37:11Speaker 2: the property owners are putting in and leverage it for
- 37:15Speaker 2: additional grants, and that was the big part of our.
- 37:19Speaker 8: Discussion on Monday night at City Council.
- 37:23Speaker 2: So we have been able to leverage about one point
- 37:25Speaker 2: two million dollars in additional funding through federal grants, state grants,
- 37:32Speaker 2: and local private foundations to actually begin to implement. We
- 37:37Speaker 2: are operating from a master plan that was completed in
- 37:39Speaker 2: twenty twenty three and this is our phase one and
- 37:43Speaker 2: this is going to be a focus along Summer Street
- 37:47Speaker 2: of replacing the lighting and improving the lighting. We will
- 37:52Speaker 2: also be doing some kind of pilot projects with some
- 37:56Speaker 2: of the parking along that stretch, and then we want
- 37:59Speaker 2: to do some activation projects, beautification type projects, I mean
- 38:04Speaker 2: things like getting unified trash containers and trash containers. That
- 38:10Speaker 2: sounds so simple, but you want them that the city
- 38:15Speaker 2: that's going to be maintaining them. You've got to make
- 38:17Speaker 2: sure that they're high quality, they're easily accessible. And the
- 38:21Speaker 2: other thing that we constantly hear is are current trash containers,
- 38:25Speaker 2: which are pieces of art and they're very.
- 38:27Speaker 8: Nice, but you can't fit a pizza box in them.
- 38:30Speaker 2: So you think about, we've got pizza places right down
- 38:34Speaker 2: in the heart of the BD, so we need and
- 38:36Speaker 2: it's funny, and I mean we do laugh a lot,
- 38:38Speaker 2: but it's true. You got to be able to put
- 38:40Speaker 2: a pizza box into the trash container.
- 38:44Speaker 8: So that's the main initiative.
- 38:47Speaker 2: Now, they're not necessarily set up to like run programming
- 38:51Speaker 2: like you would think a typical revitalization type initiative would do.
- 38:56Speaker 8: What we do is we partner.
- 38:57Speaker 2: There's already so much programming going on on in city
- 39:00Speaker 2: Center's black plas. I mean this weekend is the West
- 39:03Speaker 2: Virginia Pride Festival and parade.
- 39:07Speaker 8: The downtown.
- 39:07Speaker 2: We have a very close relationship with the Downtown Association.
- 39:10Speaker 2: With Holly Jolly Brawley, we invest in Arts Amplified and
- 39:16Speaker 2: they're doing a lot of the city Center lives and
- 39:19Speaker 2: they do the art piece of Holly Jolly Brawley. So
- 39:22Speaker 2: we're not programming per se, but what we're doing is
- 39:25Speaker 2: we are partnering. So these property owners have said, yeah,
- 39:28Speaker 2: we love having these events. That keeps people coming to
- 39:31Speaker 2: the business Improvement district. And as a property owner, I've
- 39:35Speaker 2: got property that I need to lease. So you might
- 39:37Speaker 2: be wondering why would they want to pay extra money. Well,
- 39:39Speaker 2: they've got property that they need to lease. So if
- 39:43Speaker 2: the area looks better and the area is activated, it's
- 39:47Speaker 2: a whole lot easier to lease your property or your
- 39:51Speaker 2: office or your apartment when you have that going on.
- 39:55Speaker 5: Absolutely talking to Susan Salisbury again from the Charleston area line.
- 39:58Speaker 5: So Dave Allen showing five eighty Lives brought to you
- 40:00Speaker 5: in part by Snap Fitness, with a wide array of
- 40:02Speaker 5: professional welded services including customized personal training, license recovery experts,
- 40:06Speaker 5: and the staff of dietitians. Five convenient locations Charleston, Hurricane, Winfield, Barbersville,
- 40:11Speaker 5: and Milton businessnatfitness dot com for the tails Susie. What
- 40:14Speaker 5: has been the response from these business owners and the
- 40:18Speaker 5: property owners? What's been their overall response?
- 40:21Speaker 2: It's been really good, really really good. We also produced
- 40:27Speaker 2: just for the property owners. We produced a little newsletter
- 40:30Speaker 2: and every time we produce that, like we did a
- 40:33Speaker 2: couple of them leading up to the bike race. Obviously
- 40:35Speaker 2: this area was very impacted by the US cycling event,
- 40:41Speaker 2: I mean in a great way, but it also required
- 40:44Speaker 2: these property owners letting their tenants know that they had
- 40:47Speaker 2: to exit the Perking garage before a certain time, especially
- 40:50Speaker 2: when the Downtown Criterion.
- 40:52Speaker 8: Was going on.
- 40:53Speaker 2: So that was a big communication challenge for us and
- 40:58Speaker 2: between Sydney gill Us the big Ambassador, and then we
- 41:01Speaker 2: did written communication to all the property owners to let
- 41:05Speaker 2: them know.
- 41:07Speaker 8: We got back a lot of response like.
- 41:08Speaker 2: Oh, you all were not gonna let us forget that
- 41:12Speaker 2: we needed to move our cars and said.
- 41:14Speaker 8: No, that's that's our goal.
- 41:16Speaker 3: Put one of the two or.
- 41:17Speaker 2: Yes or else you're not removing it till midnight, right,
- 41:22Speaker 2: So we it's really.
- 41:23Speaker 8: A communication tool just letting them know.
- 41:25Speaker 2: So we we send this information to the property owners
- 41:29Speaker 2: and then it's their responsibility to get it to all
- 41:31Speaker 2: their tenants, so offices, businesses, their residents.
- 41:38Speaker 3: Well we let you go.
- 41:39Speaker 5: What other exciting stuff have you got going on with
- 41:42Speaker 5: the Charleston area lines, Well.
- 41:44Speaker 8: We have happening right now.
- 41:46Speaker 2: Is that we had a little rainy start with our
- 41:48Speaker 2: downtown open Okay, Yeah, we're.
- 41:50Speaker 8: So excited it came back again.
- 41:51Speaker 2: This is our ninth year and we're going to thank
- 41:54Speaker 2: Hendrickson Long for their title sponsorship this year.
- 41:57Speaker 8: Just thrilled to have them.
- 41:58Speaker 2: We have twenty seven holes that are located on Capitol Street,
- 42:01Speaker 2: Hale Street, and a little bit of Choer Street near
- 42:08Speaker 2: the library. But we have businesses, we have nonprofit organizations
- 42:12Speaker 2: that have created these holes. We provide them in the
- 42:15Speaker 2: blank the blank hole and it's either in the I,
- 42:19Speaker 2: an L, or a T. And those are made by
- 42:21Speaker 2: Ben Franklin students down in Dunbar, which is a great partner. Yeah,
- 42:26Speaker 2: so they have to act like a business. The Ben
- 42:28Speaker 2: Franklin students working with us give us a quote on
- 42:33Speaker 2: what it's going to take to build these, then they
- 42:35Speaker 2: order the supplies. Now we go and pay for it.
- 42:39Speaker 2: So it's been a real learning experience, a real life
- 42:41Speaker 2: learning experience where the students have been Franklin and they've
- 42:44Speaker 2: been with us all nine years and so we love it.
- 42:47Speaker 2: We love it, Thank you Kennon County Schools. But it's
- 42:51Speaker 2: open really any time of the day. You pick up
- 42:55Speaker 2: your powder and your balls that you can borrow at
- 42:58Speaker 2: Taylor Books, Adelphius Words Bar and Grill Art and Porium
- 43:01Speaker 2: or Tony the Taylor. You can pick it up at
- 43:04Speaker 2: Tony the Taylor and return it to Taylor Book so
- 43:07Speaker 2: it doesn't have to be returned to the same place.
- 43:09Speaker 2: So we have putters of all different sizes and you
- 43:12Speaker 2: just you go out and play the course. A little
- 43:14Speaker 2: thing we did different this year's We made the scorecard
- 43:17Speaker 2: so that you just hit a QR code on our
- 43:20Speaker 2: signs on all of the holes and that takes your
- 43:22Speaker 2: way up to your scorecard. So we no longer have
- 43:25Speaker 2: the scorecards. You know that sometimes will blow around in
- 43:28Speaker 2: the wind, and so we've eliminated that issue. So you
- 43:33Speaker 2: do it all on and then you can save it
- 43:34Speaker 2: on your phone for when you come back again. It's
- 43:38Speaker 2: just it's real fun. It's a real team building for
- 43:41Speaker 2: the organizations and the businesses that participate because they're coming
- 43:46Speaker 2: together as a team to design the hole. We do
- 43:51Speaker 2: ask that they do it so that it's bomb proof.
- 43:55Speaker 2: That's hard to do because you're dealing with a lot
- 43:57Speaker 2: of the elements of weather.
- 43:59Speaker 8: Like I said, when we put the US up, it
- 44:00Speaker 8: was windy, it was raining and then.
- 44:04Speaker 2: But really the biggest bomb proof is children love this
- 44:09Speaker 2: event and they will trample all over these holes trying
- 44:14Speaker 2: to get the perfect shot. So we we're just thrilled that.
- 44:20Speaker 8: We're able to do it again.
- 44:22Speaker 2: It will close June to twenty second, So we kicked
- 44:24Speaker 2: it off with festival. It'll be up for the Pride
- 44:28Speaker 2: Festival this weekend and then we'll take it down June
- 44:31Speaker 2: twenty seconds so the city has ample time to get
- 44:33Speaker 2: ready for the Charleston Sturn World.
- 44:34Speaker 3: Oh yeah, oh yeah, that little thing.
- 44:36Speaker 8: Yeah, that little thing's coming right behind, Suzie.
- 44:38Speaker 3: We got to leave it there.

- 48:10Speaker 5: Let me not I got a couple of texts here.
- 48:12Speaker 5: Text says Dave bad news for West Virginia, losing coal
- 48:15Speaker 5: jobs and coal companies going bankrupt, and the governor not
- 48:18Speaker 5: doing business with China, and Trump taking four hundred and
- 48:20Speaker 5: thirty million dollars allocated to help coal communities. And news yesterday,
- 48:24Speaker 5: West Virginia has the second worst economy in the US,
- 48:27Speaker 5: and Republicans.
- 48:28Speaker 3: Call this progress.
- 48:29Speaker 5: As a Texter, tex says to your day, it's nice
- 48:32Speaker 5: to be finally acknowledged as the greatest listeners in the world.
- 48:35Speaker 5: It's true, man, especially your Texters. I listened to talk
- 48:38Speaker 5: radio for decades, and I got to say, for West Virginia,
- 48:40Speaker 5: you got some really creative, smart and funny people in
- 48:42Speaker 5: your audience. Bravo people, keep.
- 48:45Speaker 3: It up, says the text.
- 48:47Speaker 5: The Dave Island Show in five eighty Live is broad
- 48:48Speaker 5: to you, parted by Morgan and Morgan, America's largest injury
- 48:51Speaker 5: law firm.
- 48:51Speaker 3: Visit for the People dot Com. TJ. Meadows is here.
- 48:55Speaker 3: How you doing, man?
- 48:56Speaker 18: What up that house in Tays Valley. You'll be gone.
- 48:59Speaker 18: It's already probably thirty seconds after you just did that.
- 49:01Speaker 5: Well, I've done done it twice because Rich contacted me
- 49:05Speaker 5: yesterday and so I put it up yesterday. And I
- 49:07Speaker 5: have not talked to mister Klein to know whether it
- 49:09Speaker 5: is still on the market or not.
- 49:10Speaker 3: I'm presuming he will let me know. They move quick.
- 49:14Speaker 3: They definitely moved.
- 49:15Speaker 5: And I was talking to Kelly Steele earlier for Putnam
- 49:18Speaker 5: County Tourism about the growth in Winfield right now. You know,
- 49:21Speaker 5: Tay's Valley has always been the place that was growing.
- 49:23Speaker 5: Winfield is awesome as well. They're building more town homes
- 49:28Speaker 5: in Winfield. They're building at least that there's plans for
- 49:30Speaker 5: a couple of more subdivisions. Yeah, coming into Winfield right now.
- 49:34Speaker 5: I mean, there's so much stuff going on at Putnam
- 49:36Speaker 5: County right now.
- 49:37Speaker 18: Big growth in the Greater Tays Metroplex, in the Greater
- 49:40Speaker 18: And I'm the mayor, you know, I know you are
- 49:41Speaker 18: the greater the one that gave me that title, the
- 49:44Speaker 18: mayor of Tays Valley. Everybody knows you're You're in the community.
- 49:48Speaker 18: You are, you do a lot in the community, and
- 49:50Speaker 18: only some of it's court ordered.
- 49:54Speaker 3: I know you're trying to get.
- 49:55Speaker 18: Yourself off the hook because you don't like the credit,
- 49:58Speaker 18: but you're actually wonderful and bad the area.
- 50:01Speaker 3: Actually, I do love it. I love the cridit good.
- 50:03Speaker 3: You deserve it, kiddy.
- 50:04Speaker 18: Well, it's on the Big Show today, man, So we
- 50:06Speaker 18: got a lot coming up on the quote unquote Big Show.
- 50:10Speaker 18: Eric Tarr will join us. He is a senator of
- 50:14Speaker 18: course from Putnam County, and we will continue the debate
- 50:19Speaker 18: that is a rift in the Republican Party, especially in
- 50:22Speaker 18: the Senate, around just how effective we have been with
- 50:25Speaker 18: economic development and Republican priorities and how they've changed. But
- 50:29Speaker 18: they've not changed for everyone in the Senate. I think
- 50:32Speaker 18: it's fair to say Tar is still old school when
- 50:35Speaker 18: it comes to a lot of the Republican priorities, lawsuits
- 50:39Speaker 18: being one. You know, we talked about that yesterday with
- 50:41Speaker 18: Causes of Action with Brian Helton. So we'll continue that
- 50:44Speaker 18: debate today with Tar. He has a different I wouldn't
- 50:48Speaker 18: call it unique, but a different perspective. Coming up at
- 50:51Speaker 18: ten thirty three, Doug has he's an advocate for this
- 50:53Speaker 18: disabled He's going to talk about snap cuts. He's going
- 50:56Speaker 18: to talk about Medicaid cuts and how that will affect
- 50:59Speaker 18: the working disabled. So we want to tell that story.
- 51:02Speaker 18: We want to understand it better. Longtime advocate for those folks.
- 51:06Speaker 18: We'll talk with him. Mon County Delegate Gino Shiarelli. Methadone
- 51:10Speaker 18: clinics and the debate about methadone clinics is back front
- 51:14Speaker 18: and center. We want to talk with him about that.
- 51:16Speaker 18: He thinks they're effective, so we want to talk about
- 51:19Speaker 18: why they have the stigma they do, what challenges come
- 51:22Speaker 18: with that, and get into that debate. Jared Halprin on
- 51:25Speaker 18: the Big Beautiful Bill All Things Trump, the big you
- 51:27Speaker 18: know dust up between Trump and Elon Musk.
- 51:29Speaker 5: Elon must pulling no punches on this man, and he's
- 51:32Speaker 5: got crad Man, He's got weight, So we're gonna have
- 51:34Speaker 5: to see how that goes down.
- 51:35Speaker 18: Brad Mack back on the show. That's eleven thirty three.
- 51:40Speaker 18: We're happy to have him. It should be a fun show.
- 51:42Speaker 3: It always is. Yeah, and I will be listening.
- 51:45Speaker 5: Mister Wilson's actually going to be in Charleston for the
- 51:47Speaker 5: boys baseball tournament, so he'll be doing the show live
