- 0:39Speaker 2: Crew Handles got the week off and I'm happy to
- 0:42Speaker 2: be with you. Heather Brooker is here as well. That
- 0:48Speaker 2: the music there was from and that probably does that
- 0:51Speaker 2: hit your list coming up a little bit late later there,
- 0:54Speaker 2: Heather Brooker. As far as major moments in their entertainment
- 0:58Speaker 2: for twenty twenty five, you know.
- 1:00Speaker 3: I wasn't going to include that, but I think in
- 1:03Speaker 3: terms of like the numbers that it did and how
- 1:05Speaker 3: well it did in the box office as well as
- 1:08Speaker 3: on K pop.
- 1:09Speaker 2: Demon Hunter by the way, and and so not only
- 1:13Speaker 2: and you tell me, Heather, You've got your finger on
- 1:16Speaker 2: the pulse of entertainment. There has has there ever been
- 1:22Speaker 2: a well, a Netflix show or a made for streaming
- 1:28Speaker 2: movie that.
- 1:31Speaker 1: Went to theaters because it was so popular.
- 1:37Speaker 3: I don't know that it did it in this way,
- 1:40Speaker 3: like it was so popular on Netflix and then they
- 1:42Speaker 3: put it in the theaters after.
- 1:44Speaker 4: I don't know that that's ever been done.
- 1:46Speaker 3: There's been nothing unless it's been like an anniversary event, gotcha,
- 1:50Speaker 3: you know, I think so special event.
- 1:52Speaker 1: But you know, I've got a now nine year old.
- 1:54Speaker 2: He turned nine at the end of November, and you know,
- 1:59Speaker 2: he popped this thing on and I was.
- 2:01Speaker 4: Like, like, what is this?
- 2:03Speaker 1: Wow? All this is fantastic.
- 2:06Speaker 2: It was really well done and the music is absolutely
- 2:10Speaker 2: on point. And I know it's a cartoon, but the
- 2:13Speaker 2: choreography and the way it was drawn everything was pretty
- 2:16Speaker 2: fantastic as well. Well.
- 2:17Speaker 4: Caught me off guard.
- 2:18Speaker 3: We didn't know. I have a twelve year old and
- 2:20Speaker 3: we did not know what to expect either. She was like,
- 2:22Speaker 3: we gotta watch this movie. All my friends are talking
- 2:23Speaker 3: about it, and so we were like, okay, So we
- 2:25Speaker 3: watched it because anything with like demon in Hunters in it,
- 2:29Speaker 3: I'm like, is my is this okay for my life?
- 2:31Speaker 1: I'm like the same way, what am I watching here.
- 2:35Speaker 2: I was, wait, let's just check that little Demon Hunter
- 2:38Speaker 2: movie out, and.
- 2:40Speaker 3: It was so catchy. My husband and I were both like,
- 2:42Speaker 3: this was really fun movie. Not at all surprised that
- 2:46Speaker 3: the songs have been nominated for various awards. The music
- 2:50Speaker 3: is fantastic and I think they even performed. The singers
- 2:54Speaker 3: performed at the iHeart Awards.
- 2:57Speaker 2: Yeah, it's a It was a big deal, but one
- 2:59Speaker 2: of those things throughout twenty twenty five that just kind
- 3:03Speaker 2: of took the world by storm. Sure, they're talking about
- 3:07Speaker 2: live touring if they hadn't already. There's also talk about
- 3:13Speaker 2: doing you know AI like like you could see this
- 3:19Speaker 2: band the Demons.
- 3:22Speaker 1: Perform and all that stuff.
- 3:24Speaker 2: Who knows what will happen as things continue to change,
- 3:27Speaker 2: But let's take.
- 3:28Speaker 1: A Let's start with politics, shall we.
- 3:30Speaker 2: Someone commented because I called Trump, I don't know a
- 3:35Speaker 2: bad man or something, that's I'm allowed to say that.
- 3:38Speaker 2: That's a personal I don't like the guy.
- 3:41Speaker 4: You are allowed to say that because you are a host.
- 3:43Speaker 1: Yeah, I'm not a journalist.
- 3:45Speaker 4: You're not a journalist.
- 3:46Speaker 1: I'm not bound by those things, and I do. I find.
- 3:51Speaker 2: You will never hear me defend him. I will defend
- 3:55Speaker 2: ideas or things that he has done that I agree
- 3:58Speaker 2: with or I think are important for the country, but
- 4:03Speaker 2: never confuse that with me liking the guy.
- 4:06Speaker 1: Does he make me laugh sometimes? Oh yeah, there's things.
- 4:09Speaker 2: There's things that he does that I go, God, that's refreshing,
- 4:13Speaker 2: just somebody who just comes out. I like his unpolished
- 4:18Speaker 2: political kind of persona sometimes. And there's other times where
- 4:23Speaker 2: he says stupid ass things and I go, that is.
- 4:29Speaker 1: That is so unsavory. It should never come out of
- 4:32Speaker 1: the White House. You know.
- 4:33Speaker 2: I miss statesmanship and those things.
- 4:37Speaker 1: I like that, but I do like them, Yeah, I do.
- 4:41Speaker 2: I think that that's you know, I'm not saying you
- 4:43Speaker 2: have to wear a tie in the Oval office all
- 4:46Speaker 2: the time like Reagan. But there's there's just certain times
- 4:50Speaker 2: that I find it refreshing to not have something go
- 4:53Speaker 2: through the filter, you know. And and I think that
- 4:58Speaker 2: we sometimes get wood by that and go, oh that's nobility.
- 5:03Speaker 1: Now there are people in there.
- 5:04Speaker 3: I think two people forget who are listening to us.
- 5:06Speaker 3: Sometimes forget that this is a news talk radio station
- 5:10Speaker 3: and the host job is to give their opinions and
- 5:13Speaker 3: thoughts on the news of the day.
- 5:14Speaker 4: The news department is separate. Our job is to give
- 5:18Speaker 4: the facts and the news and the information as we
- 5:21Speaker 4: know it.
- 5:22Speaker 3: Sometimes, especially like with Handle on the news, when we're
- 5:25Speaker 3: kind of all talking together in a round table, you know,
- 5:28Speaker 3: the lines can be blurred a little bit there.
- 5:30Speaker 2: Yeah, but you have it's you get your Thanksgiving pants
- 5:35Speaker 2: on a little bit.
- 5:36Speaker 3: Right exactly where you're at the dinner table and you're saying, Hey, Pau,
- 5:39Speaker 3: what do you think about this?
- 5:40Speaker 1: Yeah?
- 5:41Speaker 2: So that is different. I think that's a great different
- 5:43Speaker 2: differentiation too, that you and Amy and anybody else sitting
- 5:47Speaker 2: in that seat during a discussion. Yes, there are places
- 5:51Speaker 2: where you will stop us or handle and I will
- 5:53Speaker 2: be so, what do you think about this? You like
- 5:56Speaker 2: can't say, but I can, you know, as a human
- 5:59Speaker 2: beings say whatever. But somebody somebody's like, what you just
- 6:04Speaker 2: you just called him away. I don't find him to
- 6:06Speaker 2: be a likable guy.
- 6:08Speaker 1: Yeah, I do. I think people have tds. Oh absolutely.
- 6:14Speaker 2: I think people freak out about anything and everything he
- 6:17Speaker 2: says and whatever he can say Jesus's Lord and people
- 6:21Speaker 2: go no, then I'm voting for the devil.
- 6:23Speaker 1: I hope the.
- 6:23Speaker 2: Devil comes here, and I hope he takes so and
- 6:25Speaker 2: I just go, oh my god, what is wrong with people? Yeah?
- 6:28Speaker 3: I saw people say to you as well, how other
- 6:30Speaker 3: you said you're impartial? But then you just said a
- 6:32Speaker 3: conspiracy And I'm like, you didn't listen to the last
- 6:35Speaker 3: part of what I said. It was listen, we make
- 6:37Speaker 3: we make mistakes, and we are okay with saying oops,
- 6:40Speaker 3: let me let me.
- 6:41Speaker 1: Fix it's correct, It's all right.
- 6:43Speaker 3: I'm already like I've still got my handle on the
- 6:45Speaker 3: news stories ready to go. It's after seven. What am
- 6:47Speaker 3: I doing?
- 6:48Speaker 2: Yeah?
- 6:48Speaker 1: No, put those away? I put I take them home
- 6:51Speaker 1: and I print on the backside of him. Okay for you.
- 6:54Speaker 4: I love that kind.
- 6:55Speaker 2: Of doing a year in review. Looking back, it seems
- 6:59Speaker 2: appropriate as we slide towards the new year. So much
- 7:03Speaker 2: happened in the last almost twelve months. So the news
- 7:07Speaker 2: cycle is just I mean, it was pretty relentless.
- 7:12Speaker 1: And I think the news really, you know, is the news.
- 7:15Speaker 2: Is thrilled about always shoving a bunch of stuff down
- 7:19Speaker 2: our throat. Just so much this, so much is going on.
- 7:23Speaker 2: I got to tell you, the vast majority of what's
- 7:25Speaker 2: going on is good. The news really the whole. If
- 7:30Speaker 2: it bleeds, it leads type thing, just the heaviness of
- 7:34Speaker 2: the news. But it started at the beginning of the year,
- 7:38Speaker 2: in January, of course, with the inauguration of President Trump.
- 7:44Speaker 2: And then after that, I mean it was like zero hope.
- 7:50Speaker 2: I mean to some, I mean half the country essentially
- 7:54Speaker 2: was like, Okay, we're just time for us a change,
- 7:58Speaker 2: we need something else. He's not my guide, but I
- 8:04Speaker 2: will tell you, once a president is in, I do
- 8:07Speaker 2: nothing but root for them, not for the things that
- 8:11Speaker 2: I disagree with, but I root for the country. And
- 8:15Speaker 2: so you had all kinds of American scrambling trying to
- 8:21Speaker 2: deal with everything that came out of the Oval Office
- 8:24Speaker 2: and beyond.
- 8:26Speaker 1: You know, you had some.
- 8:27Speaker 2: Political violence, economic nerves still to this day, all kinds
- 8:33Speaker 2: of tragedies, mass tragedies. A year of domestic and international
- 8:41Speaker 2: news just popping off every time you turn your head.
- 8:45Speaker 2: Just been insane. We found time to enjoy things. There were,
- 8:52Speaker 2: you know, great movies.
- 8:53Speaker 1: Music.
- 8:57Speaker 2: This is for you, Kna, Taylor Swift, Travis Helsey. They
- 9:01Speaker 2: seem to be in louverray and they he says, they
- 9:07Speaker 2: don't fight. How could you you know? It's Taylor Swift.
- 9:13Speaker 2: Why can't fight? She's the best? What do you fight about,
- 9:18Speaker 2: she says, mostly if they if they get upset, she
- 9:21Speaker 2: just shakes it off.
- 9:23Speaker 1: See what they did there? See that.
- 9:26Speaker 2: I'm downb I'm heppy with what's going on? Groovy AnyWho.
- 9:32Speaker 2: Uh So there's been a lot to talk about. So
- 9:36Speaker 2: Trump returns to the White House. That's huge, immediate expansion
- 9:40Speaker 2: of executive authority. He really, he really got in the
- 9:43Speaker 2: White House and like checked the mirrors and then immediately
- 9:48Speaker 2: stepped on the gas, said hey.
- 9:50Speaker 1: What did this thing do?
- 9:53Speaker 2: I mean, I was in it before, but I feel
- 9:55Speaker 2: like I didn't really take it as far as I
- 9:57Speaker 2: could go. And then he started doing donuts on the
- 9:59Speaker 2: front lawn of the White House. And you can say
- 10:04Speaker 2: that's horrible, but everybody. One person's horrible is another person's Horay.
- 10:09Speaker 2: That's the reality of it, because if it's your guy
- 10:14Speaker 2: in there, then you're gonna go, yeah, test the metal
- 10:17Speaker 2: of that thing. Let's see how far fast it can
- 10:19Speaker 2: go and what you can do with it. And then
- 10:22Speaker 2: you had political upheaval and I don't I never knew
- 10:26Speaker 2: much about Charlie Kirk. I am not a fan of
- 10:30Speaker 2: dominion theology, which is the category I would put him in,
- 10:35Speaker 2: and that kind of I don't think politics and faith
- 10:39Speaker 2: should mix in that way. I do think I believe
- 10:42Speaker 2: that the Christian is governed by scripture, but the American
- 10:47Speaker 2: is governed by the Constitution, and they're not the same document.
- 10:51Speaker 2: So understanding, yes, there are things that you know. Just
- 10:57Speaker 2: if something's legal doesn't mean it's lee for me. As
- 11:00Speaker 2: a person of faith. I can go to Nevada and
- 11:04Speaker 2: it's legal. Prostitutions legal doesn't mean it's legal for me.
- 11:07Speaker 2: So the laws don't matter as much to me as
- 11:11Speaker 2: as it does, you know personally.
- 11:14Speaker 1: Right.
- 11:14Speaker 2: So the assassination Charlie Kirk, I thought it was horrible
- 11:17Speaker 2: because anytime somebody who wants to talk and converse about something,
- 11:25Speaker 2: I think people are fearful of that.
- 11:28Speaker 1: Now do I.
- 11:29Speaker 2: Think that he was Martin Luther King Junior, No, No,
- 11:34Speaker 2: But I think that there are similarities in the fact
- 11:37Speaker 2: that you rile people up when you talk about things
- 11:41Speaker 2: that matter. There was a forty three day a record
- 11:46Speaker 2: forty three day talk about Trump beating his own record.
- 11:49Speaker 2: I think thirty days was the last one. He pushed
- 11:52Speaker 2: it to forty three days of the government shutdown that
- 11:55Speaker 2: disrupted the snap program, the benefits you know, obviously federal
- 12:00Speaker 2: services as well, and that does hurt people. I get
- 12:03Speaker 2: all of that, but it's a tactic like any other tactic,
- 12:08Speaker 2: like you know, getting up and pushing limits like that
- 12:15Speaker 2: is to get people to listen. Part of a negotiation tactic.
- 12:19Speaker 2: Not a fan of it, but you know, the powers
- 12:24Speaker 2: that be are going to use what they can to
- 12:26Speaker 2: get what they want done. And that's what put The
- 12:29Speaker 2: people that put Trump in office put him in office
- 12:33Speaker 2: for certain things, and his dedication is to those things,
- 12:36Speaker 2: whether you like it or not. Nationwide protests against tariffs.
- 12:39Speaker 2: I've said this before. I don't know if tariffs will work,
- 12:42Speaker 2: but they can. I don't know that it's legal across
- 12:45Speaker 2: the board as to what he's doing. However, I think
- 12:49Speaker 2: that we have gotten soft, stupid, and lazy in this country.
- 12:54Speaker 1: And that we need to bring.
- 12:57Speaker 2: We need to bring some of our security back, and
- 12:59Speaker 2: that means to be as self contained as we can be.
- 13:04Speaker 2: The immigration policy. I don't care who you are, legal
- 13:08Speaker 2: or so called illegal, or any of those things. You're
- 13:11Speaker 2: a human being and should be treated as one. That's
- 13:16Speaker 2: who we should be as Americans. And I get why
- 13:18Speaker 2: people get upset when you see the way people are
- 13:22Speaker 2: humans are being treated. However, I think immigration and border
- 13:27Speaker 2: control and all those things are an important part of.
- 13:29Speaker 1: Being a country as well.
- 13:30Speaker 2: Executive actions obviously were a part of twenty twenty five
- 13:34Speaker 2: news cycle, and again that's part of putting the pedal
- 13:39Speaker 2: to the metal and seeing what the office holds, you know.
- 13:43Speaker 2: But I still think, ultimately, even with a right lean
- 13:49Speaker 2: in the structure of the United States, that there still
- 13:52Speaker 2: are checks and balances, and it's not it hasn't been
- 13:55Speaker 2: the total free for all that it seems some people
- 13:58Speaker 2: believe that it is. Court challenges over that presidential power
- 14:04Speaker 2: in federal agency authority has been a part of the
- 14:06Speaker 2: discussion as well, and as long as that's part of
- 14:09Speaker 2: the discussion, and the system and the checks and balances
- 14:13Speaker 2: are working, and sometimes you have to let that happen.
- 14:17Speaker 2: You know, you raise a child. I got a nine
- 14:20Speaker 2: year old, and Heather was talking about our twelve year old.
- 14:24Speaker 2: You know, they are going to test you. They're going
- 14:27Speaker 2: to test the powers of their own growth, their hormones
- 14:32Speaker 2: and everything else that go with it. They're going to
- 14:34Speaker 2: test who they are as a person, and you have
- 14:37Speaker 2: to have those checks and balances ready. And that's I'm
- 14:42Speaker 2: still a wee the people person. I still believe in us.
- 14:46Speaker 2: I think if you're going to have a horrible two
- 14:48Speaker 2: party system, the best you'll ever be able to do
- 14:51Speaker 2: is to have both sides shuffled like a deck. That's
- 14:54Speaker 2: the best you could ever hope from a horrible two
- 14:58Speaker 2: party system. In the morning crew here slightly modified, we've
- 15:02Speaker 2: got happily so got to Heather Brooker with us. Will
- 15:06Speaker 2: Is around as well, Matthew filling in for Anne, who
- 15:12Speaker 2: deserves anytime off she can get. Not like Cono, he
- 15:17Speaker 2: deserves to be here. You're taking Friday off. I heard
- 15:20Speaker 2: what do you gotta do?
- 15:21Speaker 1: Yeah? Are you eavesdropping? No? Okay? Why were you just
- 15:25Speaker 1: talking about it? Yeah?
- 15:26Speaker 2: Then yes I was okay, Yeah, you should always always
- 15:30Speaker 2: be concerned now with you. I'm always listening all ways.
- 15:37Speaker 2: So we'll have Sam Zeo with us. But we're kind
- 15:39Speaker 2: of just breaking down twenty twenty five, looking at the
- 15:42Speaker 2: year that broke the news cycle, just all hell broke loose,
- 15:45Speaker 2: and you know what, Cheryl hit us up and you know,
- 15:48Speaker 2: maybe we'll do x X. Did not see that coming. Sorry,
- 15:54Speaker 2: hood life, yo, uh ax kneel anything to Friday?
- 16:01Speaker 4: You anything?
- 16:03Speaker 2: Wow?
- 16:04Speaker 1: Max Neil you know what.
- 16:06Speaker 2: You know, what's funny is uh, you get white people
- 16:09Speaker 2: getting upset that African Americans use terms like X.
- 16:14Speaker 1: They're like, O good believe it. They use the word X.
- 16:17Speaker 1: There's not even an X in there. And how could
- 16:20Speaker 1: do that?
- 16:20Speaker 2: I said, I don't know, but I was in Washington
- 16:25Speaker 2: and they wash the dishes. I don't know where they are.
- 16:28Speaker 2: Is in that you get that upset? No, because you're
- 16:32Speaker 2: a hypocrite, That's all I'm saying. People, balls and strikes.
- 16:39Speaker 2: Just call them as they are. Don't protect anybody or anything.
- 16:43Speaker 2: Just say the truth and we'll all get through this.
- 16:46Speaker 2: Or as you like to say, balls and balls.
- 16:50Speaker 1: What are you seven?
- 16:53Speaker 2: Oh my gosh, Neil filling in for Kono today is Shannon. No,
- 17:01Speaker 2: ball's balls balls, balls, balls balls.
- 17:06Speaker 1: Gary Shannon coming up later. By the way, so Cheryl
- 17:09Speaker 1: pointed out, she.
- 17:10Speaker 2: Said, Neil, I love you, but that was false news
- 17:15Speaker 2: because I said that Trump had caused the UH down
- 17:19Speaker 2: the shutdown. Okay, here's the deal. You can't say he's
- 17:21Speaker 2: all powerful and say that it wasn't him. You can't
- 17:26Speaker 2: say that the two times it's ever happened past twenty
- 17:29Speaker 2: eight days has been him. But it's not about him.
- 17:33Speaker 2: I'm sorry if that offends you.
- 17:35Speaker 1: Do. I know there's two sides to it. Yes, it in.
- 17:40Speaker 2: The words of Hillary Clinton, and I very very rarely
- 17:45Speaker 2: ever quote her, it takes a village. Yes, there are
- 17:50Speaker 2: both sides, and it was a tactic.
- 17:52Speaker 1: I said.
- 17:52Speaker 2: It was used to negotiate. By the very definitive negotiation
- 17:57Speaker 2: means that there were two sides and one is trying
- 18:00Speaker 2: to get something and the other was trying to get
- 18:02Speaker 2: something and they were pushing each other. Can't have negotiations
- 18:05Speaker 2: with one side, it was implied. So yes, if if
- 18:09Speaker 2: every time I say something about one or the other,
- 18:12Speaker 2: I have to clarify, that is like, you know, that's
- 18:17Speaker 2: like conno going I'm not gay. I mean, there's nothing
- 18:20Speaker 2: wrong with it, but I'm not gay. There's nothing wrong
- 18:22Speaker 2: with it though, I mean, just say it. There's nothing
- 18:25Speaker 2: wrong with it. Yeah, just don't clarify all the time.
- 18:29Speaker 2: I think you people are smarter than you give yourself
- 18:32Speaker 2: credit for and can realize that you start doing that stuff,
- 18:35Speaker 2: and that's what makes me crazy. Wait a second, wait,
- 18:38Speaker 2: did you say this? I have people You're defending Trump. Nope,
- 18:42Speaker 2: I'm defending ideas. I'm defending principles and things that I
- 18:45Speaker 2: think work. Don't like the man I've said that, not
- 18:49Speaker 2: crazy about him, he says stupid things. Sorry if that
- 18:55Speaker 2: makes you not like me. I have a wife who
- 18:58Speaker 2: loves me and a boy who loves me, and that's
- 18:59Speaker 2: all I need them. A little support and kindness from
- 19:04Speaker 2: Knah and.
- 19:04Speaker 1: I'll be fine.
- 19:07Speaker 2: So global stuff, Russia's longest to state attack on Kiev
- 19:11Speaker 2: this year, of course, it's going on four years. Insane
- 19:18Speaker 2: to see that this has gone so long. You know,
- 19:21Speaker 2: Russia and Putin had.
- 19:24Speaker 1: No thoughts, ever.
- 19:28Speaker 2: Inconceivable that it would ever go four years, and so
- 19:34Speaker 2: they targeted the energy infrastructure this year. Of course, the
- 19:37Speaker 2: ongoing war in Gaza dominating global headlines and humanitarian concerns.
- 19:43Speaker 2: Of course, starving people is not a good idea. Now
- 19:51Speaker 2: do they continue in Palestine to produce.
- 19:57Speaker 1: You know, hate? Absolutely?
- 20:00Speaker 2: And if you don't see the difference of those things,
- 20:02Speaker 2: does that mean that I think men, women and children
- 20:05Speaker 2: should be starved out?
- 20:06Speaker 1: No? But do we have a hell of a problem
- 20:09Speaker 1: on our hands? Yep.
- 20:12Speaker 2: And it's nothing new. Christians did it too. Christians went
- 20:17Speaker 2: through the Inquisition, they went through the Crusades, and people
- 20:26Speaker 2: don't understand this as a theologian in somebody who studied
- 20:29Speaker 2: the history of theology and these types of things, that
- 20:33Speaker 2: Islam is the youngest of the three world religions, and
- 20:37Speaker 2: they're kind of going in the pattern of every world religion.
- 20:41Speaker 1: You go through.
- 20:42Speaker 2: It's my way or the highway. We just have to
- 20:45Speaker 2: be we just had, you know, or in the middle
- 20:48Speaker 2: of living it AnyWho. You got us diplomatic pressure campaigns,
- 20:54Speaker 2: fears of broader regional escalation in all kinds of things,
- 20:58Speaker 2: anxiety over global instability, America's role abroad, you have partnerships
- 21:04Speaker 2: between people. We don't want partnerships to start, like China
- 21:08Speaker 2: and Russia, and so a lot of eyebrow raising when
- 21:13Speaker 2: it comes to these concerns. Legitimately, the economy, the cost
- 21:17Speaker 2: of living. Now keep in mind a lot of this
- 21:23Speaker 2: is on the coasts. We on the coasts don't think
- 21:28Speaker 2: there's any other America. And since the coasts are very liberal,
- 21:36Speaker 2: the assumption is that that is America and it's not.
- 21:39Speaker 2: There is a why there's a big chunk between the
- 21:43Speaker 2: coasts that have very different lifestyles. Go on Zillo, man,
- 21:49Speaker 2: go on Zillo and look at the price of a castle.
- 21:54Speaker 2: Holy smokes, you're like, in Idaho, why is there a castle?
- 21:58Speaker 2: Mansion castle? And it's like it's one hundred and fifty
- 22:03Speaker 2: thousand dollars eight thousand square feet on five acres. Not
- 22:12Speaker 2: everybody's living the same way we're living here. So yeah,
- 22:16Speaker 2: you got a lot of inflation going on, yes, but
- 22:20Speaker 2: likewise you have a lot of contradiction to GDP growth.
- 22:24Speaker 2: Record stock market, and the stock market is like the
- 22:28Speaker 2: emotional cousin that cries at everything. So every time something
- 22:32Speaker 2: goes up or down, I mean, it's because, oh my gosh,
- 22:35Speaker 2: it's it's not reality. It's emotional reactions. They may think
- 22:41Speaker 2: that it's intellectual, but it's not. It's emotional reactions to things.
- 22:43Speaker 2: But it's going up and down, up and down. So
- 22:46Speaker 2: record high grocery prices, I've seen a lot of crazy things.
- 22:49Speaker 2: You go through fast food. So the other day I
- 22:52Speaker 2: go through fast food with my boy Wendy's. We like ourselves.
- 22:56Speaker 2: Some Wendy's. Isn't Wendy's great.
- 22:59Speaker 3: It's honestly it really my most comfortable fast food played
- 23:02Speaker 3: for the comfort zone.
- 23:03Speaker 4: Yeah it does.
- 23:04Speaker 2: It doesn't feel as fast food. It feels fresh and
- 23:08Speaker 2: their fries are great and really underrated.
- 23:11Speaker 4: Are you a fry dipper in the frosty?
- 23:14Speaker 1: You know what?
- 23:15Speaker 2: I'm not, but my wife is, and she doesn't. She
- 23:18Speaker 2: doesn't get fast food. She doesn't order fast food. But
- 23:21Speaker 2: when we were dating, I remember if I you know,
- 23:24Speaker 2: if we went to in and Out or something like that,
- 23:28Speaker 2: that she would dip her fries in a vanilla frosty.
- 23:30Speaker 4: It's good or child.
- 23:32Speaker 2: Yeah. So but I will tell you this. So we
- 23:35Speaker 2: went through. We got a meal for him and a
- 23:39Speaker 2: meal for me. Thirty five bucks fast food. So, you know,
- 23:46Speaker 2: because this is this is holiday time, we're relaxing some
- 23:50Speaker 2: rules a little bit doing whatever. We went the other
- 23:53Speaker 2: day as a family, we went to Olive Garden and
- 23:56Speaker 2: I'm going to tell you this. The guy, the manager's
- 23:59Speaker 2: name is in Stone on the front of that place
- 24:02Speaker 2: right down the street here the Empire area over there with.
- 24:06Speaker 4: The Empire Center.
- 24:08Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 24:08Speaker 2: So that is one of the best restaurant run restaurants
- 24:13Speaker 2: I've ever been in. And I'm not talking I'm talking
- 24:15Speaker 2: across the board. Yeah, they are good. They are very
- 24:18Speaker 2: Everybody looks that works there, acts like they want to
- 24:21Speaker 2: be there, and they're there to serve you. I always
- 24:24Speaker 2: see the manager walking the floor. The food is always
- 24:28Speaker 2: piping hot and delicious. I do love me some Olive
- 24:32Speaker 2: Garden and and and you know how much it was
- 24:37Speaker 2: for three of us endless breadstick and salad. It was
- 24:42Speaker 2: like fifty five dollars with tip. Oh compare but compare
- 24:48Speaker 2: that to thirty five dollars for two going through a
- 24:51Speaker 2: drive through.
- 24:54Speaker 1: That's not bad.
- 24:55Speaker 4: It's not bad.
- 24:56Speaker 3: I mean though, honestly, I'll take Olive Garden again all day,
- 24:59Speaker 3: every day.
- 25:00Speaker 1: I love it, Oh, I do. I listen.
- 25:02Speaker 2: I like the whole system. I think you need mom
- 25:06Speaker 2: and pop places. I think you need a chef forward places.
- 25:10Speaker 2: I think you need chain restaurants. I think you need
- 25:12Speaker 2: fast food. They're all part of the food cycle and structure.
- 25:19Speaker 2: But yeah, so I know, I realized that they're going up,
- 25:22Speaker 2: But I was impressed that you could have a family
- 25:25Speaker 2: of three sit down and with tip pay fifty five
- 25:28Speaker 2: bucks at a sit down place like Olive Garden. And
- 25:32Speaker 2: I'll tell you, I don't know, maybe all all of
- 25:34Speaker 2: gardens are like this, but the one in Burbank Alit,
- 25:38Speaker 2: I just think it's run exceptionally well. It's clean, the
- 25:42Speaker 2: bathrooms are clean, it's always packed, in there, but they
- 25:46Speaker 2: move you through and as far as getting you a table,
- 25:50Speaker 2: but you never feel rushed.
- 25:52Speaker 3: We used to go to the one in Glendale, but
- 25:53Speaker 3: we don't go to that one anymore because it's too
- 25:55Speaker 3: hard to get into.
- 25:56Speaker 4: It's always bananas in there. But we like the burbone.
- 25:59Speaker 1: We're probably closer to the one in Glendale.
- 26:01Speaker 2: But also it's you know, because we go to BJ's
- 26:04Speaker 2: there and it's the same saying yeah, but yeah, I
- 26:07Speaker 2: think because you have to go into a parking structure
- 26:09Speaker 2: feels different. Happy Monday, Nil Savader in the Morning Cruise
- 26:12Speaker 2: slightly modified in this week as Handle has the week off.
- 26:17Speaker 2: Heather Brookers here in for Amy, Matt is in for
- 26:21Speaker 2: and Will kno is here. Hey, Cono, can you bring
- 26:24Speaker 2: up my computer for a second? Uh?
- 26:29Speaker 1: But what are you looking for? Buttons there? Buddy? Did
- 26:32Speaker 1: I surprise you? This really is going to explain this. Okay,
- 26:35Speaker 1: give a listen to this.
- 26:37Speaker 2: Hey, Niel Savadri, it's kind of annoying that you keep
- 26:41Speaker 2: on trying to pick a fight with Cono.
- 26:43Speaker 1: It's bad to look for you. You're better than that.
- 26:46Speaker 1: Knock it off. You got me in trouble, Cono, Well
- 26:51Speaker 1: knock it off. I'm a nice guy. You put me down.
- 26:57Speaker 2: Anybody that has a problem with me messing with Cono
- 27:01Speaker 2: does not have brothers. I have five brothers and one sister.
- 27:06Speaker 2: And that's how you show love. Well, that's what you
- 27:09Speaker 2: call it. I call it bullying.
- 27:12Speaker 1: Hashtag stop bling.
- 27:13Speaker 2: Oh my god, Cono, We're stop it.
- 27:19Speaker 1: We're in the I E. In a bar. Things go sideways.
- 27:25Speaker 1: Do I have your back? No? You right throw me
- 27:27Speaker 1: to the ground. You throw me to the ground. No way.
- 27:31Speaker 1: I'd be in it to win it. Cono's my boy.
- 27:36Speaker 1: I only feel like you're in trouble. You're in trouble now.
- 27:40Speaker 1: No I get I like it. You're better than that.
- 27:44Speaker 1: I got that.
- 27:44Speaker 2: You're better than that. Top You're not better than that.
- 27:49Speaker 2: I haven't gotten that.
- 27:50Speaker 1: The last time I got that was from my mom
- 27:52Speaker 1: and she was picking me up from jail. Whish that
- 27:56Speaker 1: was a joke.
- 27:58Speaker 2: All right, let's get into the uh twenty twenty five.
- 28:04Speaker 2: Look at at what took off, what went on in entertainment.
- 28:08Speaker 1: HEATHERN Brooker.
- 28:09Speaker 3: Yeah, it was a big year for entertainment. I actually
- 28:11Speaker 3: had a hard time narrowing down some of the biggest stories.
- 28:13Speaker 3: So we're just going to hit a few here, because
- 28:16Speaker 3: I know we don't have a whole lot of time,
- 28:17Speaker 3: but I would say the biggest right off the bat,
- 28:19Speaker 3: We've got if there's if.
- 28:20Speaker 2: There's you know, a lot, we can take it over.
- 28:24Speaker 2: All right, We're the boss.
- 28:25Speaker 3: We are the boss. You're the boss. I am just
- 28:28Speaker 3: you're the boss along for the ride. So the big,
- 28:30Speaker 3: the big story I think recently especially is the Netflix
- 28:34Speaker 3: paramount tug of war over Warner Brothers. Discovery at stake,
- 28:38Speaker 3: of course, is more than just who controls HBO, Warner
- 28:41Speaker 3: Brothers or their vault of superhero ips. It is really
- 28:45Speaker 3: going to be the the major control that Netflix and
- 28:51Speaker 3: is going to have over Warner Brothers and over a
- 28:55Speaker 3: large portion of the industry.
- 28:57Speaker 2: Is some of the concern, Heather, because you're in addition
- 29:00Speaker 2: to being a journalist, you said you studied theater, you're
- 29:02Speaker 2: an actress, a comedian and the like, so business wise
- 29:08Speaker 2: and art wise, the concern is that it's going to
- 29:11Speaker 2: dumb down filmmaking and more into the streaming mentality, even
- 29:15Speaker 2: though there has been some great stuff streaming. But what
- 29:19Speaker 2: are some other concerns as an actress that you think
- 29:24Speaker 2: that brings to the table.
- 29:26Speaker 3: Well, I mean there's a couple of issues you're looking
- 29:28Speaker 3: at just from like a creative standpoint. When you've got
- 29:30Speaker 3: a major tech company that's going to be taking over,
- 29:35Speaker 3: there is the risk of introducing more AI and having
- 29:39Speaker 3: less work for creatives. And ultimately it all boils down
- 29:42Speaker 3: to people are afraid for their jobs, whether you're an actress,
- 29:45Speaker 3: whether you're on the other side of the camera. People
- 29:49Speaker 3: are worried about losing jobs. Anytime you have a major
- 29:52Speaker 3: consolidation like this, there will be jobs lost.
- 29:56Speaker 4: So I think those are the two big issues.
- 29:58Speaker 3: You're going to lose some creativity, maybe lose some work
- 30:01Speaker 3: to AI, and then also just a loss of jobs
- 30:04Speaker 3: and work in the industry.
- 30:06Speaker 2: But hasn't that happened many times before, including you know,
- 30:09Speaker 2: special effects. I love special effects, prop making, all of
- 30:12Speaker 2: those things, set dressing, set creation. Now you're dealing with
- 30:19Speaker 2: the volume, which is, for those that don't know, is
- 30:23Speaker 2: an entire studio that is digital in nature. It has
- 30:28Speaker 2: no physical sets as far as background. Only the foreground
- 30:32Speaker 2: is real and tangible, and that came from gaming computers
- 30:37Speaker 2: and the like.
- 30:38Speaker 1: Also, you had a switch.
- 30:40Speaker 2: It was Jurassic Park, which was originally supposed to be
- 30:45Speaker 2: stop motion animation and people like Phil Tippett from Star
- 30:51Speaker 2: Wars fame and like, we're going to be doing it
- 30:55Speaker 2: and stop motion and it went to CGI, you know,
- 30:59Speaker 2: that wiped out a lot of physical things prop model making.
- 31:04Speaker 2: Isn't this just part of the stretch?
- 31:06Speaker 3: I mean, I think it. It is part of it.
- 31:09Speaker 3: It is what's happening. Whether or not it's going to
- 31:12Speaker 3: be good or bad, I guess remain to be seen.
- 31:14Speaker 3: I think it's more of like the homogenized, you know,
- 31:18Speaker 3: effect of what's happening when you have a conglomerate, when
- 31:21Speaker 3: you have that one powerful company, which Netflix will be
- 31:24Speaker 3: incredibly powerful in the industry if they this deal continues
- 31:30Speaker 3: to go through, and then you've got less opportunities for
- 31:33Speaker 3: middle ground filmmakers or television shows or that sort of thing.
- 31:37Speaker 3: You're either in with the big giant corporation of Netflix
- 31:41Speaker 3: or you're out, you know, still scrounging. And this is
- 31:44Speaker 3: coming for an industry that is already hurting after you know,
- 31:48Speaker 3: the pandemic, after the strikes, after the wildfires earlier this year.
- 31:53Speaker 3: So when you take all those factors together and then
- 31:55Speaker 3: you say no, we're going to now you know, consolidate
- 31:59Speaker 3: this this big corporation like Warner Brothers, Discovery up into Netflix.
- 32:04Speaker 3: You're putting so much power in the hands of one company,
- 32:08Speaker 3: and it's going to leave a lot of people out
- 32:10Speaker 3: in the cold, or at least that's what their feeling
- 32:12Speaker 3: like is going to happen.
- 32:13Speaker 4: We don't know.
- 32:13Speaker 3: We don't have a crystal ball. We can't predict the future.
- 32:15Speaker 3: But I think that's the fear and that's the concern.
- 32:18Speaker 2: I want to talk more about the things in entertainment
- 32:21Speaker 2: that happened in twenty twenty five. Is we kind of
- 32:23Speaker 2: just do a very loose year in review. Yeah, I'm
- 32:25Speaker 2: kind of just feeling, you know, conversational today.
- 32:28Speaker 1: So we'll come back with.
- 32:29Speaker 2: More Heather Brooker when we return, talking about entertainment from
- 32:33Speaker 2: twenty twenty five as well as the changes for entertainment.
- 32:38Speaker 1: It is Neil Sivadra in with the Morning Team.
- 32:40Speaker 2: This is KFI and KOSTHD to Los Angeles, Orange County.
- 32:45Speaker 4: You've been listening to the Bill Handles Show.
- 32:46Speaker 2: Catch My Show Monday through Friday, six am to nine am,
- 32:50Speaker 2: and anytime on demand on the iHeartRadio app.
