Transcript
- 0:00Speaker 1: And the Cracking power play Lord.
- 0:02Speaker 2: This is the Kraking Postgame Show, brought to you by
- 0:06Speaker 2: Toyota of Olympia. Now for an in depth look at
- 0:09Speaker 2: your Kraken Hockey. It's the post game on the Global
- 0:13Speaker 2: Credit Union Kraken Audio Network.
- 0:16Speaker 3: For the final times and I had welcome back inside
- 0:19Speaker 3: of Climate Plage Arena alongside al Kiniski.
- 0:22Speaker 4: I am Everett fits you.
- 0:23Speaker 3: Cracking fall three to two in overtime, they get a point.
- 0:27Speaker 3: The points streak lives on now eight oh and two
- 0:30Speaker 3: in their last ten games. And we were going into
- 0:33Speaker 3: this third period thinking that, you know the wild We're
- 0:36Speaker 3: gonna continue doing what they do best, grind this game down.
- 0:40Speaker 3: Not a whole lot of action, not a whole lot
- 0:42Speaker 3: of excitement. Cracking weren't really able to get much of
- 0:45Speaker 3: anything going. And then they get two goals in that
- 0:47Speaker 3: third period, three point thirteen in from Adam Larsen, nine
- 0:50Speaker 3: oh seven from Addymaniers.
- 0:52Speaker 4: They had some good chances to.
- 0:53Speaker 3: Take the lead in that third You go to overtime,
- 0:56Speaker 3: probably not the cleanest of overtimes, out shot four nothing
- 1:00Speaker 3: in overtime and then two o nine and Matt Zucarello
- 1:04Speaker 3: netting his fifth of the season to send.
- 1:07Speaker 4: Them while on to the win.
- 1:08Speaker 5: Yeah, I think the crack had earned themselves a chance
- 1:10Speaker 5: to win this hockey game in overtime. They earned themselves
- 1:12Speaker 5: that chance. Unfortunately, I agree it was sloppy and overtime
- 1:15Speaker 5: wasn't their typical structure. Passes were not there, you know,
- 1:20Speaker 5: the drop pass, simple drop pass turned into a dump
- 1:22Speaker 5: across the ice. So nothing overtime they wanted. But they
- 1:25Speaker 5: earned a chance to play in overtime, which means they
- 1:27Speaker 5: earned another point. You don't have to win every game
- 1:30Speaker 5: to make the playoffs. But when you compete in every game,
- 1:33Speaker 5: when you come back from being down to nothing, you
- 1:36Speaker 5: earn a point as a result. That's a sign of
- 1:38Speaker 5: a resilient team and a team that's head in the
- 1:40Speaker 5: right direction, you know what.
- 1:41Speaker 3: It's funny sometimes we'll talk to Lane Lambert for our
- 1:44Speaker 3: pregame chats and he'll say just that you don't have
- 1:47Speaker 3: to win every game, And I look at him sometimes
- 1:50Speaker 3: and I'm like, oh, man, really, Oh I guess.
- 1:53Speaker 5: You don't have to. Yeah, you go four and six,
- 1:56Speaker 5: three and one like like that's that. That's hockey. Like,
- 1:59Speaker 5: you know, no one expects you to win two games,
- 2:00Speaker 5: but you know, when you're competing in any two games,
- 2:03Speaker 5: when you're when you're you know not I don't want
- 2:05Speaker 5: to say giving up, but when you're down two goals
- 2:07Speaker 5: and you just don't really you're not feeling it. Uh,
- 2:10Speaker 5: those are teams that don't go on. This team tonight,
- 2:12Speaker 5: they continue to battle in that in that third period.
- 2:14Speaker 5: The the larst And goal a result of just a
- 2:17Speaker 5: flurry of opportunities in front that finally made its way
- 2:20Speaker 5: past of Alstad, and then the power play opportunities that again,
- 2:23Speaker 5: you earned those power plays and you take advantage of them.
- 2:26Speaker 5: On the Matty Benier's goal, again, it's not a highlight
- 2:29Speaker 5: reel goal. It's Matty Benier's going hard than that. You
- 2:31Speaker 5: get the shot through, he finds the rebound. It's all
- 2:33Speaker 5: of a sudden to nothing and you've earned yourself a
- 2:35Speaker 5: chance to win the hockey game.
- 2:36Speaker 3: And again I say that just because when you're on
- 2:38Speaker 3: these kind of streaks, you want to win every game.
- 2:40Speaker 3: You feel you feel like win every game. If a thing,
- 2:43Speaker 3: you gotta get dropped back down to reality.
- 2:46Speaker 6: Uh.
- 2:46Speaker 3: He was held off the score sheet tonight, But I
- 2:50Speaker 3: think for me outside of the goal scorers, Ellie told
- 2:53Speaker 3: it was the most impactful player of the evening.
- 2:56Speaker 5: Yeah, absolutely, I mean you you say an impactful tongue.
- 2:59Speaker 5: And he ended up with three block shots. I think
- 3:02Speaker 5: all three were off his feet, yep, and I don't
- 3:05Speaker 5: think it was the same foot, So he's probably icing
- 3:07Speaker 5: both these tonight going into the locker room. I mentioned
- 3:10Speaker 5: it in the broadcast. Blocking shots is you know, something
- 3:14Speaker 5: to warriors do and when you do it off your
- 3:16Speaker 5: shin pads that that's difficult enough. But when you're taking
- 3:18Speaker 5: slap shots rist shots off your feet, there's only a
- 3:22Speaker 5: quarter inch of leather between between that that puck and
- 3:24Speaker 5: in your in your foot, and he blocked three like
- 3:27Speaker 5: that tonight.
- 3:27Speaker 3: Philip Grubauer another I would say outstanding performance by him.
- 3:32Speaker 3: Both goals in the first period. There were some screens
- 3:36Speaker 3: in front. One of them, uh, you know, his own player.
- 3:39Speaker 3: Another was a layered screen from the wild. Not a
- 3:42Speaker 3: whole lot he could do about that. He made some
- 3:44Speaker 3: big saves when this team needed him, and again Lane Lambert.
- 3:47Speaker 3: Number of the defensemen have said multiple times, Grooby, Joey, Matt,
- 3:52Speaker 3: whoever's in goal, they've been good back there, and tonight
- 3:55Speaker 3: Philip Grubauer was good back there.
- 3:57Speaker 5: Well, I've said it many times too that your goaltender
- 3:59Speaker 5: can't get you just you can't win every game. Your
- 4:01Speaker 5: goaltender can get you a shutout every game. But if
- 4:03Speaker 5: he can keep it to two or less, you should
- 4:05Speaker 5: be able to compete and win a lot of hockey games.
- 4:08Speaker 5: And again he kept it to two or less. You know,
- 4:10Speaker 5: you would have liked to have kept it the less.
- 4:11Speaker 5: He's had one goal against the last four games. He
- 4:14Speaker 5: gave up one extra tonight. That leaves his team in
- 4:17Speaker 5: a position to go out and potentially win a hockey game,
- 4:20Speaker 5: but they end up getting a point, losing in overtime.
- 4:22Speaker 3: So now the Craken head out on the road for
- 4:25Speaker 3: some pretty tough games year, not a lot of time
- 4:28Speaker 3: to recover. Tomorrow. You're gonna be in Carolina on Saturday night.
- 4:33Speaker 3: You're gonna be at MSG on Monday, at New Jersey
- 4:36Speaker 3: on Wednesday. By the way, Mike Bentont on the radio
- 4:39Speaker 3: call both of those games. Thursday you go up to
- 4:42Speaker 3: Boston for an eight o'clock start, so you at least
- 4:45Speaker 3: get an extra hour to recover from your Jersey game.
- 4:48Speaker 3: You have a Saturday matinee next week in Utah, so
- 4:51Speaker 3: a conference game that you'd love to win and put
- 4:54Speaker 3: some more distance between you and those teams behind you.
- 4:57Speaker 3: But this road trip is not an easy one coming
- 5:00Speaker 3: up for Seattle.
- 5:01Speaker 5: No, it absolutely isn't. But you've got to look at
- 5:03Speaker 5: it and say, you know, realistically, can you get three
- 5:06Speaker 5: of five? Can you can you get ten points or
- 5:09Speaker 5: can you get eight points of this under this trip?
- 5:13Speaker 5: If it ends up being losses and overtime, fine they're not.
- 5:16Speaker 5: They're not regulation losses. You get points ont of them.
- 5:18Speaker 5: But you're also gotta come up with a free wins
- 5:20Speaker 5: as well and.
- 5:21Speaker 3: Also saving gray silver lining. You don't want to lose games,
- 5:24Speaker 3: but if you're gonna lose them, lose them out East, Yees,
- 5:27Speaker 3: don't lose them here in the West. Three to two
- 5:30Speaker 3: crack and fall in overtime to the Minnesota Wild.
- 5:33Speaker 1: Ow your key takeaways and.
- 5:35Speaker 4: Your three stars.
- 5:35Speaker 5: Yeah, key takeaways from me tonight was you know missing
- 5:38Speaker 5: Brandon montour tonight. I wrote that down way through the game.
- 5:40Speaker 5: We talked about on the broadcast. You know that that
- 5:42Speaker 5: extra push of offense that you get from having him
- 5:45Speaker 5: in the lineup. Uh, you know, the Crackers, we're losing
- 5:48Speaker 5: too many puck battles over the first forty minutes. I
- 5:50Speaker 5: think they cleaned that up in the in the third
- 5:52Speaker 5: period as they kind of buckled down looking for the
- 5:54Speaker 5: first goal of the game and they found it. And
- 5:57Speaker 5: it's that resilience that they got them in position to
- 6:01Speaker 5: win this hockey game and take it to overtime. The
- 6:03Speaker 5: big third period push with two goals in the first
- 6:05Speaker 5: ten minutes of the period was the reason why that happened.
- 6:08Speaker 5: Three Stars brought to you by Mama Kay. Philip Grubauer
- 6:12Speaker 5: was the third Star of the game, stopping thirty one
- 6:14Speaker 5: of thirty four. He had a nine to one to
- 6:15Speaker 5: two save percentage. Big role for him tonight, keeping the
- 6:19Speaker 5: door closed at two. Second Star of the game goes
- 6:22Speaker 5: to Vince Dunn, assisting on both of those goals in
- 6:25Speaker 5: the third period, so a big game from him. Four
- 6:27Speaker 5: shots on goal for done as well. And then the
- 6:29Speaker 5: first Star went to Matt Zucarello of the Minnesota While
- 6:32Speaker 5: with the ot game winning goal.
- 6:35Speaker 1: That'll do it for us.
- 6:36Speaker 3: From the press box, crack and fall by a three
- 6:38Speaker 3: to two score, We're gonna head down to Mike Benton
- 6:41Speaker 3: standing by with anders Hurst, gonna join him on the
- 6:44Speaker 3: postgame show in a matter of moments, Mikey b the
- 6:47Speaker 3: floor is yours.
- 6:48Speaker 7: Yeah, looking forward to it, Fellas, thanks very much once again.
- 6:51Speaker 7: And we asked this question about twenty minutes ago. Could
- 6:54Speaker 7: the Kraken find their way to climb out of a
- 6:56Speaker 7: two nothing hole with twenty minutes left this evening? The
- 7:00Speaker 7: answer was yes, that good enough two fours over time,
- 7:03Speaker 7: but Matt and Zucarello ending at two oh nine in
- 7:06Speaker 7: So the Kraken right now settle here for the constellation point.
- 7:09Speaker 7: But it does help and matters here for the standings,
- 7:11Speaker 7: as they pushed their run by the way to eighth
- 7:14Speaker 7: to two last ten games, and they were so close
- 7:17Speaker 7: to their second third period come back win of the season,
- 7:21Speaker 7: win down by two goals, but the crack and fall
- 7:23Speaker 7: in overtime three to two to Minnesota. Yet they get
- 7:26Speaker 7: to within two points of the Pacific Division lead. We'll
- 7:30Speaker 7: tell you more about how this shuffle happened a little
- 7:32Speaker 7: bit later on here in post game cover does Everett
- 7:35Speaker 7: and I'll mention Andrews seers by my side here for
- 7:37Speaker 7: a talk and Kraken four nine four five one text
- 7:40Speaker 7: us right now on the kJ R text line with
- 7:42Speaker 7: your reaction here to tonight we'll talk about it here
- 7:44Speaker 7: later on again four nine, four or five to one plus.
- 7:47Speaker 7: We'll have highlights, we'll have scores. We'll also have more
- 7:50Speaker 7: reaction back from downstairs as the crack and again this
- 7:53Speaker 7: evening put their runout to now eighth and two last
- 7:56Speaker 7: ten games, but falling three to two in overtime to Minnesota.

- 10:34Speaker 7: their entertainment value for this seat being m krackens showing
- 10:37Speaker 7: that again down to nothing, the comeback attempt not too
- 10:40Speaker 7: far out of reach, and they storm right back with
- 10:43Speaker 7: a pair of goals in period three to two for
- 10:45Speaker 7: US overtime, helping them out in the standings. Backstopped here
- 10:48Speaker 7: by Philip Grubauer plus the offense from Adam Larsen and
- 10:51Speaker 7: Matty Veneers, but Matt and Zucarello had the finishing touches
- 10:54Speaker 7: a two to nine of overtime. Man your final score int.
- 10:58Speaker 7: Minnesota three and the crack and two here in this
- 11:01Speaker 7: second matchup of three meetings between these two teams. Again
- 11:05Speaker 7: Mike betting with you back at the cors Light landing
- 11:07Speaker 7: in section twenty the Kraken record moving to twenty fourteen
- 11:11Speaker 7: and eight forty eight points. Now on the season, they
- 11:14Speaker 7: are two back at first place in the Pacific, shared
- 11:16Speaker 7: by Vegas and Edmonton Minnesota, ending their seven game road
- 11:21Speaker 7: trip with a win, improving to twenty six eleven and
- 11:24Speaker 7: eight point total ADS sixty and they get out of
- 11:27Speaker 7: a bump in the road, winless in back to back games.
- 11:31Speaker 7: One more matchup for these two teams that won't happen
- 11:33Speaker 7: until April seventh in Minnesota. Time out for the highlights
- 11:37Speaker 7: and this Seebra Kraken Drive to the next scoring recap
- 11:40Speaker 7: is brought to you by Chevy Silverado. Bring on the
- 11:43Speaker 7: tough stuff, because with nine trims and four available engines,
- 11:47Speaker 7: Chevy Silverado is ready to accept all challenges. Chevy Silverado
- 11:53Speaker 7: your own personal power play. The Wild got out to
- 11:55Speaker 7: a one to nothing lead five minutes into the game.
- 11:58Speaker 7: Ryan Hartman, through a screen, drilled his eleventh goal the season,
- 12:01Speaker 7: pass Philip Grubauer Carilla Caprisov had to assist, and then
- 12:05Speaker 7: Brock Faber through a multi layer set of screens, got
- 12:09Speaker 7: his tenth on the year at fifteen fifty four from
- 12:12Speaker 7: Quinn Hughes and Matt Buldy, proving the Kraken had some
- 12:15Speaker 7: work to do. Falling down to nothing to Minnesota through
- 12:19Speaker 7: just twenty minutes of play, the tide seems to flatten
- 12:23Speaker 7: out a bit in the second period, no scoring, as
- 12:25Speaker 7: well as Minnesota outshot the Krack in eight to six,
- 12:28Speaker 7: also in a penalty free second period, But matters turning
- 12:33Speaker 7: around for the Kraken. Beginning a little over three minutes
- 12:37Speaker 7: into period three.
- 12:39Speaker 3: Myers had lost it in front card shade of the
- 12:41Speaker 3: blue paint.
- 12:42Speaker 4: That one knocked down.
- 12:43Speaker 1: It's done. Let circle shot begs.
- 12:45Speaker 4: It up the.
- 12:48Speaker 1: Scars, It's done. Off the pipe, the big chat on
- 12:57Speaker 1: the bowels on the right side, and the crack on
- 13:00Speaker 1: the board.
- 13:00Speaker 3: Two on sixteen forty seven to play in regulation.
- 13:04Speaker 5: Well, it all starts with a great ozone eye entry
- 13:06Speaker 5: by Seattle there to get.
- 13:07Speaker 1: The puck to the further of the Dead. But then
- 13:09Speaker 1: it's Ben.
- 13:10Speaker 5: Myers from behind the Dead who put the puck out
- 13:12Speaker 5: front to Don Doun puts it off the post.
- 13:15Speaker 6: As you said, that.
- 13:16Speaker 1: Rebound goes right to Larson.
- 13:18Speaker 4: He finds the back of the Dead.
- 13:19Speaker 1: This lead's been cutting half two one minutes.
- 13:21Speaker 4: Let it down.
- 13:22Speaker 7: It seemed maybe like it was a matter of time
- 13:24Speaker 7: when Vin's done and Adam Larson got on the isavers
- 13:27Speaker 7: so close in period two, then seconds before that goal,
- 13:31Speaker 7: so close Larson will finally put one end right pass
- 13:34Speaker 7: yes Per Volstead for his third goal of the season,
- 13:37Speaker 7: that ending a fifteen game goals scoring drought. Larson's third
- 13:41Speaker 7: of the year at three thirteen got the Cracking back
- 13:43Speaker 7: in the game down to one Done had the only
- 13:45Speaker 7: assist on the play. Then penalties we mentioned earlier, both
- 13:50Speaker 7: teams combining for nothing as far as penalties in the
- 13:53Speaker 7: second period, but the Wild got into penalty issues later on.
- 13:57Speaker 7: But Jacob Middleton offered tripping at six nine and then
- 14:01Speaker 7: Jakav Trenyon off for elbow wing, giving the Kraken new
- 14:05Speaker 7: life right here on the power play in what could
- 14:08Speaker 7: they do?
- 14:09Speaker 3: Left side, Steven sent back to Don.
- 14:11Speaker 1: The can one timer turn aside green.
- 14:21Speaker 12: Mad Evaniers follows up the play, Bay told the rebound
- 14:26Speaker 12: we're tied to two ten fifty three left in.
- 14:31Speaker 1: The third buff it's done. Getting start at the back
- 14:34Speaker 1: of the offensive. Blue lighting fights McCann off the top
- 14:37Speaker 1: of the circles.
- 14:38Speaker 4: Mc cann, as he.
- 14:39Speaker 1: Does on the power play, puts a hard one on
- 14:41Speaker 1: that big rebound there for number ten.
- 14:44Speaker 4: He puts it in.
- 14:45Speaker 7: His game's tied at that point this night, building up
- 14:49Speaker 7: to a big night for Matty Beniers in right now
- 14:51Speaker 7: playing as fine as hockey as far as production. He
- 14:55Speaker 7: got his eighth goal the season again a nine toh
- 14:57Speaker 7: seven six point last five games as well him that
- 15:00Speaker 7: tied the game at two.
- 15:02Speaker 4: Jared McCann and beings.
- 15:03Speaker 7: Some of the helpers for the league's second best power
- 15:06Speaker 7: play since early December. They would go one of three
- 15:10Speaker 7: here for the night, by the way, and on that
- 15:12Speaker 7: goal done, recording his eighth multi assist period with the Kraken,
- 15:16Speaker 7: surpassing Jared McCann for the most enfranchise story that gave
- 15:20Speaker 7: the Krack a new life and made this one a
- 15:23Speaker 7: brand new game. Tied at two, forcing overtime and then
- 15:27Speaker 7: much more open ice for both teams.
- 15:29Speaker 4: But who would have the final, say, two.
- 15:32Speaker 1: Fifty five to go on overtime?
- 15:34Speaker 3: Caprizov two on one, He's got Sugarreto.
- 15:37Speaker 1: In front, his sores.
- 15:41Speaker 3: Corill Caprizov down the right side, match Sugerello crashes the net,
- 15:47Speaker 3: flips in the two on one. They'll finish off the
- 15:50Speaker 3: play of the Crack and fall three to two and overtime. However,
- 15:54Speaker 3: the point streak lives on ten games, eight zero and
- 15:58Speaker 3: two in their last ten. Heading on a big five
- 16:01Speaker 3: game road trip.
- 16:02Speaker 7: And as we get deeper into the season, those points
- 16:04Speaker 7: certainly matter, and they did so here as far as
- 16:06Speaker 7: the Kraken in their own division. Two goals in period
- 16:10Speaker 7: three enough to force overtime, but the Wild eventually the
- 16:13Speaker 7: last to capitalize here with plenty of open ice and
- 16:16Speaker 7: they get the right guys on there to do it. Unfortunately,
- 16:19Speaker 7: on the Kraken side, it was Matt and zucarello fifth
- 16:22Speaker 7: goal of the year, ending in a two zero nine
- 16:24Speaker 7: Carilla caprisa brock Faber as well with the assist on
- 16:28Speaker 7: the play three to your final for the Wild over
- 16:31Speaker 7: the Kraken as this season, here the Kraken in overtime,
- 16:35Speaker 7: falling to five and four. In the extra session final
- 16:39Speaker 7: shots on net thirty four to twenty eight in favor
- 16:42Speaker 7: of Minnesota. The Kraken go one of three on the
- 16:44Speaker 7: power play and allow just one man advantage to the
- 16:47Speaker 7: Wild as well, they come up empty. That was huge
- 16:50Speaker 7: given the fact that the Wild had a lot of

- 18:14Speaker 7: and that opened up space eventually to work the puck

- 24:01Speaker 7: Benton with you back by the Corps light landing in
- 24:03Speaker 7: section twenty Downstairs we go now for more reaction with
- 24:07Speaker 7: Krack and center Matty Beneer's what's the what's the.
- 24:10Speaker 19: Attitude like in the dressing room after game? I, I mean,
- 24:13Speaker 19: you lost, but you came back against a pretty formidable team.
- 24:17Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 24:18Speaker 20: I mean I thought it was a good game by
- 24:20Speaker 20: both sides. Like tight game goes over time, you know,
- 24:24Speaker 20: comes down to uh, you know, we get three on two,
- 24:27Speaker 20: they make a nice play and they go in to
- 24:28Speaker 20: two on one score. So it was a good game
- 24:30Speaker 20: all the way through. I thought we played well and
- 24:32Speaker 20: they played well.
- 24:32Speaker 19: What was the key to probably getting some goals on
- 24:35Speaker 19: these guys after they did pretty good try to shut
- 24:37Speaker 19: you down the first half.
- 24:38Speaker 20: Yeah, I think we just got faster, We got more
- 24:41Speaker 20: pressure on their you know, breakouts, their neutral zone, and
- 24:45Speaker 20: then when we got Poks back.
- 24:46Speaker 4: We went fast.
- 24:47Speaker 20: We you know, threw it up three high, got in
- 24:50Speaker 20: behind them, and we started to get a little bit
- 24:52Speaker 20: more you know, first touches on parks, offensive rushes, chances
- 24:56Speaker 20: like that.
- 24:57Speaker 21: It's the first time you've seen them since Quinn's kind
- 24:59Speaker 21: of joined their group. How much does he change what they're.
- 25:01Speaker 5: Able to do with the guys that they've already kind
- 25:03Speaker 5: of had there.
- 25:05Speaker 20: Yeah, I mean he's an extremely good player. You know,
- 25:10Speaker 20: he's so so shifty, so fast, so smart. You know,
- 25:13Speaker 20: he's not he's a force back there. So you know,
- 25:16Speaker 20: he made it tough on our wingers tonight and our
- 25:18Speaker 20: you know, Austin and D zone and you know, I
- 25:21Speaker 20: thought we did a soul a job trying to contain
- 25:23Speaker 20: him out there at the blue line, try to not
- 25:25Speaker 20: let him walk down the slot, try to not let
- 25:27Speaker 20: him walk around the net. But yeah, he's a super
- 25:31Speaker 20: skilled player, and you know, he's really really good.
- 25:34Speaker 22: He has ended up with the two power plays out there,
- 25:36Speaker 22: and you see, like built some momentum with the first one,
- 25:38Speaker 22: but didn't convert. I mean it feels like kind of
- 25:41Speaker 22: make or break there on the second one.
- 25:42Speaker 20: Right, Yeah, Yeah, we knew we needed one there. You know,
- 25:45Speaker 20: we had some good looks and chances the first one,
- 25:49Speaker 20: and then we were able to get the second one
- 25:51Speaker 20: just off a you know shot rebound, and you know
- 25:53Speaker 20: that's that's how goals go go in from the inside.
- 25:56Speaker 20: You know they're not always pretty passing, power play goals.
- 25:59Speaker 20: You know a lot of them are just tipsters, traffic,
- 26:01Speaker 20: att net shots, rebound, things like that.
- 26:04Speaker 7: Matty Banier's a third period goal helped complete the third
- 26:07Speaker 7: period come back to Forest overtime, but again man Zukarrelli

- 35:12Speaker 7: in waves right here, but we're not gonna see one
- 35:14Speaker 7: out for about roughly a couple of weeks, but this
- 35:16Speaker 7: evening for fans who are here, did they get their
- 35:19Speaker 7: money's worth for entertainment?
- 35:21Speaker 4: What a game?
- 35:22Speaker 7: The Crackings so close to finishing this off with a win,
- 35:25Speaker 7: but they settle here for the consolation point. They fall
- 35:28Speaker 7: three to two in overtime two Minnesota. So tell us
- 35:31Speaker 7: right now four nine, four, five one on the KJR
- 35:34Speaker 7: text line, what's your level of satisfaction with the Kraken
- 35:37Speaker 7: after this one here for tonight as they moved their
- 35:40Speaker 7: run to eight Oho to two and ten games four nine,
- 35:42Speaker 7: four or five one Texas right now and tell us
- 35:45Speaker 7: what you think? On the KJR text line, Mike Benton
- 35:48Speaker 7: Andrews Hurst with you without further ado. First off, we
- 35:51Speaker 7: have to give a nod and props here and also
- 35:54Speaker 7: backed up in the three six so.
- 35:56Speaker 4: Ian for nest.
- 35:57Speaker 7: Yeah, I know, Ian, you might be listening out there
- 35:59Speaker 7: if you're get into your car right now.
- 36:01Speaker 4: But what you beautiful man? What a jacket he.
- 36:03Speaker 7: Wore on the set right across the building you're back
- 36:06Speaker 7: of the TV set.
- 36:07Speaker 6: That man has some stylists that were that were helping
- 36:10Speaker 6: him out. Because I don't know a man that has
- 36:14Speaker 6: better taste than the infanest that was excellent, well done,
- 36:17Speaker 6: well done sir tonight on Priday Night, So excellent job
- 36:20Speaker 6: by him because that was a quite a suit for sure.
- 36:22Speaker 7: If anybody has the photo, please share at X and
- 36:26Speaker 7: Twitter and tag us. I know that someone had a
- 36:29Speaker 7: screenshot from TV or inside the building here. But this evening,
- 36:34Speaker 7: the Kracking move their record to eight to oh and two.
- 36:36Speaker 4: And usually.
- 36:39Speaker 7: I think you talk to a lot of the top
- 36:40Speaker 7: end teams and when they take an OT loss, you
- 36:45Speaker 7: get the loser point. You don't get a lot of
- 36:47Speaker 7: sense of satisfaction. And I don't want to put a
- 36:50Speaker 7: game like this anders into a bucket like this, but
- 36:53Speaker 7: when you consider the Kraken for the steps that they
- 36:56Speaker 7: have been taking over the last month to not just
- 36:59Speaker 7: put them sells in the playoff mix, not just to
- 37:02Speaker 7: contend for first place in the Pacific Division, but also
- 37:05Speaker 7: end of the conversation that they're gonna be serious about
- 37:09Speaker 7: this playoff mix, this was the next big test. And
- 37:12Speaker 7: I have to ask again at one point, maybe I
- 37:16Speaker 7: would say a year ago, two years ago, did you
- 37:18Speaker 7: see a comeback like this coming against a team that
- 37:22Speaker 7: was this good in Minnesota. I don't know if you
- 37:24Speaker 7: can but yet they found a way down to nothing
- 37:27Speaker 7: with several reasons why they were able to at least
- 37:30Speaker 7: get this one into overtime. And from what we have
- 37:32Speaker 7: said in the standings, points matter, wins, ot losses, shootout losses,
- 37:38Speaker 7: they matter, and that's what helps them out here for
- 37:39Speaker 7: this evening.
- 37:40Speaker 6: Yeah, not all overtime losses are created equal, right. It
- 37:44Speaker 6: depends on your opponent, It depends on you know what
- 37:46Speaker 6: position you are in in the season. It depends on
- 37:49Speaker 6: you know how the game goes. You start down to zero,
- 37:52Speaker 6: and not by playing poorly. Just a couple of good
- 37:54Speaker 6: chances by Minnesota, and they're a top team that is
- 37:57Speaker 6: a bona fide Stanley Cup contender in my home estimation. Yeah,
- 38:00Speaker 6: that Minnesota is there, they are. The fact that you
- 38:03Speaker 6: went head to head with them, this felt like a
- 38:05Speaker 6: heavyweight battle tonight. I got the feeling that we're gonna
- 38:08Speaker 6: see a playoff series between these two teams. I'm just
- 38:12Speaker 6: I don't know why, but I get I get a
- 38:14Speaker 6: feeling that we're gonna see a playoff series between these
- 38:16Speaker 6: two teams come April. So it's one of those things
- 38:20Speaker 6: where you start off to zero, you're in a vacuum
- 38:24Speaker 6: you're happy with the point, You're happy with the overtime loss.
- 38:28Speaker 6: But man, I just feel like this place was about
- 38:31Speaker 6: ready to explode if you were to get the winner
- 38:34Speaker 6: late in that third period or somehow find a way
- 38:37Speaker 6: to do it in overtime or the shootouts. So it
- 38:39Speaker 6: feels like a little bit of a letdown. But like
- 38:42Speaker 6: I said, if you look at it in a vacuum,
- 38:43Speaker 6: I feel like we would have all taken one point
- 38:45Speaker 6: going into tonight.
- 38:46Speaker 7: I was about roughly ten feet away here from this
- 38:48Speaker 7: set at the very top of section twenty, watching overtime unfold.
- 38:51Speaker 7: And now, I mean, I'll be honest with you here,
- 38:53Speaker 7: I mean, you really can't give open ice to players
- 38:56Speaker 7: like Carill Caprisa. But that's what three on three yields,
- 38:59Speaker 7: and folks, again, in the playoffs, please remember overtime is
- 39:02Speaker 7: not played at three on three. It is a completely
- 39:04Speaker 7: different ballgame, which is why I think more fair judgment
- 39:08Speaker 7: lies within period one, period two, period three. Yet I
- 39:11Speaker 7: think you for this evening, the biggest test was could
- 39:14Speaker 7: you survive the Quinn Hughes experience. Ladies and gentlemen, I
- 39:19Speaker 7: pause for dramatic effect. Time on ice for Quinn Hughes
- 39:26Speaker 7: thirty minutes since thirty O my god. I mean, if
- 39:31Speaker 7: you look at his last three games, that is unbelievable.
- 39:33Speaker 7: That's not even abnormal for him, that is unbelievable.
- 39:36Speaker 4: One assists only.
- 39:37Speaker 7: Yeah, I mean, and I say this from the fact
- 39:41Speaker 7: of when this game is tied, John Hines is going
- 39:44Speaker 7: to one well, and that's the Quinn Hughes well, over
- 39:47Speaker 7: and over and over. Average shift length was one minute
- 39:50Speaker 7: and fifteen seconds. But yet a big reason why the
- 39:54Speaker 7: Kraken got to overtime their role players playing defensively, Jake
- 40:00Speaker 7: Amlans big breakup, Kale Flory big breakup, and how they
- 40:03Speaker 7: were able to handle Quinn Hughes and prevent extended O
- 40:08Speaker 7: zone time made such a big difference here.
- 40:10Speaker 6: Yeah, and I feel like during the second half of
- 40:12Speaker 6: the games, I think Minnesota had their way through the
- 40:14Speaker 6: first period and a half or so of this game
- 40:18Speaker 6: and they were getting ozone time crack and We're having
- 40:20Speaker 6: trouble kind of getting anything on net. But what really
- 40:23Speaker 6: kind of changed is when you play against those high
- 40:25Speaker 6: skill teams, and Minnesota is a really good balance of
- 40:28Speaker 6: the one of those teams that has a lot of
- 40:29Speaker 6: skill up top, but they're also very structured on the
- 40:31Speaker 6: back end and have really good goaltending as well, so
- 40:33Speaker 6: it's tough to find any way to attack them. But
- 40:36Speaker 6: when you play against those types of teams, sometimes the
- 40:39Speaker 6: best defense is just going straight at him, yeah, and
- 40:41Speaker 6: getting your own offense right. And I feel like the
- 40:44Speaker 6: Kraken did that much more in the second half of
- 40:46Speaker 6: the second period and than most of the third period
- 40:48Speaker 6: as well, when they started to kind of get their game,
- 40:50Speaker 6: they got those back to back power play opportunities created
- 40:53Speaker 6: some chances of their own. Berkeley Catton draws both of
- 40:56Speaker 6: those penalties, I might add he does an excellent job
- 40:59Speaker 6: of that, and they end up sc going to tie
- 41:00Speaker 6: the game once again. Special teams comes up huge.
- 41:02Speaker 7: I think Berkeley Catton and his eyes time is also
- 41:05Speaker 7: entering the conversation here with this, Anders and you and
- 41:07Speaker 7: I were talking about this backup in the press box,
- 41:09Speaker 7: and you know, for the two goals he's scored, I
- 41:12Speaker 7: think it validated the previous night as far as how
- 41:15Speaker 7: much he is working to help generate offense now. And
- 41:19Speaker 7: I saw Lane Lambert go back to the well over
- 41:21Speaker 7: and over. But again I think the question bears how
- 41:24Speaker 7: much more ice time can you give him and do
- 41:27Speaker 7: you give him enough here? Certainly in the right spots.
- 41:29Speaker 6: Well, yeah, and there can be a couple questions I there. Obviously,
- 41:33Speaker 6: I'm a big Berkeley Caton fan. I want him to
- 41:36Speaker 6: have more minutes on the ice. I want him to
- 41:37Speaker 6: have more of an effect on the game. And it's
- 41:39Speaker 6: not just the minutes though, It's about who he's playing with,
- 41:42Speaker 6: right it's the plays that you're making, the past that
- 41:43Speaker 6: you're making, if that's going to Jordan Evely or Jared
- 41:47Speaker 6: McCann or Maddy Benier's however you want to slice and
- 41:51Speaker 6: dice it, it feels like if he's playing with those, you know,
- 41:54Speaker 6: upper echelon players on this roster, he'll be getting a
- 41:57Speaker 6: lot more results than he's getting right now because he's
- 41:59Speaker 6: making the right place. But I will say he started
- 42:02Speaker 6: the overtime period. That tells me that they have confidence
- 42:05Speaker 6: in him in these situations.
- 42:06Speaker 7: And that certainly tells a lot I think when you're
- 42:08Speaker 7: getting key ice time from Lane Lambert, and Lane Lambert
- 42:11Speaker 7: told us again, if you want to play in high
- 42:14Speaker 7: leverage situations, you have to be trustworthy all areas of
- 42:18Speaker 7: the ice, beginning on defense. I think it says a lot.
- 42:21Speaker 7: I even thinking back to you know, when Caylee Floury
- 42:23Speaker 7: was also playing a lot in the third period he
- 42:25Speaker 7: was Mattion up Beginn's career caprice, sobidly that says a lot.
- 42:28Speaker 7: That's a big help with Brandon Montur back out. And
- 42:31Speaker 7: by the way, al Koniski he thought what I was thinking.
- 42:34Speaker 7: It would have been a lot of fun to see
- 42:35Speaker 7: what Montour could have done here in a game like this.
- 42:37Speaker 7: This is a game where that they really missed him.
- 42:39Speaker 6: Yeah, and like it's weird to think about that you've
- 42:41Speaker 6: gone on this run without Brandon Montour and you can
- 42:45Speaker 6: easily just point to the next step as in, oh,
- 42:49Speaker 6: you know, he's not that important because they've gone on
- 42:52Speaker 6: this run without him. He might he must not be
- 42:54Speaker 6: like as big of a deal. I completely rebut that.
- 42:58Speaker 6: I think it's so much more about what they've done
- 43:02Speaker 6: in terms of their structure rather than the players that
- 43:05Speaker 6: have been available. And I think I totally agree with
- 43:08Speaker 6: Alan that if Brandon Montor is playing in a game
- 43:10Speaker 6: like this, it does make a massive difference because that's
- 43:13Speaker 6: there in a way version of Quinn Hughes right, We
- 43:16Speaker 6: saw how much effect Quinn Hughes can have on the
- 43:17Speaker 6: game tonight, I think montor maybe not to that same level,
- 43:20Speaker 6: but has the same effect on a Seattle cracking team.
- 43:23Speaker 7: Three to two Kraken fall two Minnesota in overtime. So
- 43:27Speaker 7: again they're eight zho to two now in ten games,
- 43:29Speaker 7: and the ot point gets them to within two points
- 43:32Speaker 7: of first place in the Pacific Division. Now, this big
- 43:35Speaker 7: test awaits coming up for five games on the road
- 43:38Speaker 7: at Carolina, the Rangers, the Devils, the Bruins, and ending
- 43:42Speaker 7: up against Utah before coming back home once again, we
- 43:45Speaker 7: got a lot more to get to here again four
- 43:46Speaker 7: nine four five one on the kjir text line, and
- 43:49Speaker 7: you tell us scale of one to ten, how'd you
- 43:51Speaker 7: like the Kraken and their game for this evening four
- 43:55Speaker 7: nine four or five one. We're gonna also hear from
- 43:56Speaker 7: head coach Lane Lambert in a little bit as well,
- 43:59Speaker 7: but let's jump right into the text line and the
- 44:00Speaker 7: reaction here from this UH five zho three is saying
- 44:03Speaker 7: love to see the comeback and every point counts right
- 44:06Speaker 7: now in this division. UH two five three saying proud
- 44:09Speaker 7: of the guys are coming back, but over time, not
- 44:12Speaker 7: good execution and it was maybe some of the worst
- 44:15Speaker 7: that they had seen maybe in a long time. That
- 44:17Speaker 7: from the two five, three, and I think, uh, when
- 44:20Speaker 7: you get to two parts of this here, the Kraken
- 44:22Speaker 7: played so structured, so disciplined f five on three, But
- 44:27Speaker 7: how much did you really I think believe that they
- 44:29Speaker 7: were kind of I don't want to use the words
- 44:32Speaker 7: trying too hard, but really spinning their wheels, trying to
- 44:35Speaker 7: put this game to bed in three on three over time.
- 44:37Speaker 6: Yeah, I don't know. It's hard to really tell what's
- 44:40Speaker 6: going through a lot of the players head sometimes that
- 44:42Speaker 6: you can all you can only just speculate and guess.
- 44:44Speaker 6: But when you a lose the opening face off, I
- 44:47Speaker 6: mean that puts you behind the eight ball right away,
- 44:50Speaker 6: because Minnesota then gets an extended shift in their O
- 44:54Speaker 6: zone and then you end up kind of, uh, can
- 44:56Speaker 6: you survive?
- 44:57Speaker 7: Three? A looks there from Quinn Hughes, Caprice hop Bold,
- 45:00Speaker 7: et cetera.
- 45:00Speaker 6: You weather the storm, you get it out. You need
- 45:03Speaker 6: to make a change, you know. Matty Venier scores the
- 45:06Speaker 6: tying goal tonight, but unfortunately he's in a kind of
- 45:09Speaker 6: a one on one situation with his teammates making a change,
- 45:11Speaker 6: and one of the Minnesota players as well. You want
- 45:15Speaker 6: to see him maybe peel back and like, okay, we
- 45:17Speaker 6: need to keep possession for a little bit now. Instead
- 45:19Speaker 6: of making the one on one play to go to goal,
- 45:21Speaker 6: he loses it and then you're in another extended D
- 45:23Speaker 6: zone shift. So it's just those little things. I think.
- 45:28Speaker 6: Obviously you're happy to get the point from where you
- 45:30Speaker 6: were at the beginning of this game, but again, it
- 45:33Speaker 6: just feels like somewhat of a missed opportunity for me
- 45:35Speaker 6: because I feel like this building was about to explode
- 45:37Speaker 6: if they were to get it done in overtime.
- 45:39Speaker 7: Good food for thought here, by the way, from the
- 45:40Speaker 7: four to two five, going to overtime with one of
- 45:42Speaker 7: the best teams in the NHL and keeping the points
- 45:45Speaker 7: treat going is pretty good. A little concerning the Krack
- 45:49Speaker 7: and have him beaten the wild last four matchups and
- 45:52Speaker 7: with a potential playoff series with the wildest Spring the
- 45:55Speaker 7: boys that got to step it up that from the
- 45:56Speaker 7: four to two five, how'd you look at this one
- 45:59Speaker 7: maybe in a a seven game scope.
- 46:01Speaker 6: I think it's a tough matchup for the Krack. And
- 46:03Speaker 6: I'm gonna be completely honest, and you and I were
- 46:05Speaker 6: kind of talking about this, you know, in the heights
- 46:08Speaker 6: of the press box here at CPA. It's weird because
- 46:12Speaker 6: the teams that kind of grind it out a little bit,
- 46:14Speaker 6: like Minnesota, which is kind of a mirroring of Seattle's
- 46:17Speaker 6: play style. I feel like those are the teams at
- 46:20Speaker 6: Seattle kind of struggles against versus the high octane Colorados
- 46:24Speaker 6: of the world. Seattle, for whatever reason, matches up better
- 46:28Speaker 6: against those teams than a lot of other teams in
- 46:30Speaker 6: the league. So it's a tough matchup for Seattle. But
- 46:33Speaker 6: I will say tonight, if it proved anything, it proved
- 46:37Speaker 6: that Seattle can play with that type of team. And
- 46:39Speaker 6: Minnesota is as balanced as we just talked about as
- 46:42Speaker 6: it comes. They have great goaltending, they're great from the
- 46:44Speaker 6: back end, they have good structure, and they have the
- 46:47Speaker 6: offensive firepower to get it done. So you battle them
- 46:51Speaker 6: back from two zero down, you get your chances, and
- 46:53Speaker 6: I think the crack them with a better team in
- 46:54Speaker 6: the second half of this game. It just and the
- 46:56Speaker 6: execution overtime is a great point because I agree with
- 46:59Speaker 6: that point.
- 47:00Speaker 7: I don't want to get too far ahead of ourselves
- 47:02Speaker 7: because it is again only January eighth.
- 47:04Speaker 4: That is not.
- 47:05Speaker 7: April eighth, But who would you rather have in a
- 47:08Speaker 7: seven game playoff series? The thirty two to four and
- 47:12Speaker 7: seven Avalanche are the twenty two, sixteen and six Edmonton Oilers.
- 47:16Speaker 6: Anders Oh, I think right now, if you're looking at
- 47:21Speaker 6: it just from a this season perspective, you have to
- 47:23Speaker 6: say you'd rather face Edmonton. But I will say I
- 47:27Speaker 6: still believe for whatever reason, Edmonton has Seattle's number every
- 47:31Speaker 6: time that they end up facing them each other in
- 47:34Speaker 6: a big matchup. Connor McDavid Leon.
- 47:37Speaker 4: As good matchups and bad matchup right now, right.
- 47:40Speaker 6: And even though Colorado has been the overwhelming best team
- 47:44Speaker 6: in the NHL this season, I feel like Seattle and
- 47:47Speaker 6: we saw that right before we started this streak that
- 47:50Speaker 6: we're on now. Colorado came to CPA and battled to
- 47:53Speaker 6: a close win for Colorado in that instance. But it
- 47:56Speaker 6: just feels like Seattle can match up better with Colorado
- 47:59Speaker 6: than a lot of other teams can in the NHL.
- 48:01Speaker 6: So Mate, I can see it going both ways. But
- 48:04Speaker 6: Edmonton is not as good as they have been in
- 48:06Speaker 6: years past. But Seattle, I think can match up with
- 48:08Speaker 6: anyone in Lane. Lambert I think believes that as well.
- 48:11Speaker 7: We're gonna hear from him in a little bit by
- 48:13Speaker 7: the way here as a crack and fall three to
- 48:14Speaker 7: two and overtime to the Minnesota Wild. I do want
- 48:18Speaker 7: to get to Philip Grubauer here before the break tonight,
- 48:22Speaker 7: turning in thirty one saves on thirty four shots, and
- 48:26Speaker 7: when you look at it, I just think from like
- 48:28Speaker 7: a baseline scope of the kind of shots he let in.
- 48:32Speaker 7: They were long distance, but again not all shots are
- 48:35Speaker 7: created equal, and you have to look I think this
- 48:38Speaker 7: in context. First off, can the goalie see the puck?
- 48:41Speaker 7: I would argue on both he did not. Yeah, the
- 48:44Speaker 7: first one was a bit of a lighter layer, but
- 48:46Speaker 7: again you're you know, you're putting your own defense in
- 48:49Speaker 7: front of the puck, Hartman, let's a go. Players are
- 48:51Speaker 7: usually trained to use screens like that to shoot and
- 48:54Speaker 7: get past goalies. That's is basically, you know, just how
- 48:57Speaker 7: swab the game this year at this point to beat
- 48:59Speaker 7: top end goalton because they're a lot more athletic. But
- 49:01Speaker 7: then the second one, it's a multi layered screen. I
- 49:05Speaker 7: saw a great TV angle love this. He almost had
- 49:08Speaker 7: no chance. And then you have also the fact that
- 49:11Speaker 7: Done had a stickheld as well on that.
- 49:12Speaker 6: Play, Yeah, and also you look at from the Minnesota perspective,
- 49:15Speaker 6: Bold he does an excellent job of putting his back
- 49:18Speaker 6: to goal so you can't see which way he's gonna go.
- 49:20Speaker 6: Quinn Hughes comes across, takes the puck away from him
- 49:22Speaker 6: and passes it over to brock Favor, who just hits
- 49:24Speaker 6: a bomb. It's something you don't expect your goaltender to
- 49:27Speaker 6: have an answer for, especially when you have the layered
- 49:29Speaker 6: screen that you were just talking about. So honestly, Grubauer
- 49:33Speaker 6: right now is the best goaltender on Seattle, and you
- 49:35Speaker 6: could argue as one of the best goaltenders in the
- 49:36Speaker 6: league for yes, playing right absolutely and the numbers up,
- 49:39Speaker 6: so it's awesome to see him bounce back. This is
- 49:42Speaker 6: exactly what Seattle needs to happen if they're going to
- 49:45Speaker 6: be in this playoff run for an extended period of time.
- 49:48Speaker 6: They need to have both goaltenders performing at the level
- 49:51Speaker 6: that they are right now, and you're actually seeing Minnesota
- 49:53Speaker 6: is a great example of that. The best teams in
- 49:56Speaker 6: the NHL have two goaltenders. It's more often then not.
- 50:00Speaker 6: Colorado is one of them, with Wedgewood and Blackwood. Minnesota
- 50:03Speaker 6: now with a Wallstatt and Gustafson as well, So you're
- 50:10Speaker 6: seeing a kind of move away from the heavy minutes
- 50:16Speaker 6: almost every game. Extend back to Back's goaltending philosophy. And
- 50:20Speaker 6: the best teams right now have two really good goaltenders,
- 50:23Speaker 6: and I think Seattle is one of them.
- 50:24Speaker 7: And you can't just rely on one guy here and
- 50:26Speaker 7: risk running him into the ground.
- 50:27Speaker 4: And this is kind of.
- 50:28Speaker 7: The luxury you have with Grubauer playing this well for
- 50:31Speaker 7: the whole scope of the season, the Cord also playing
- 50:34Speaker 7: this well, and Lane Lambert going into the the ap
- 50:36Speaker 7: platoon system here to try to generate as much points
- 50:39Speaker 7: as he can out of this system. That's gonna also
- 50:42Speaker 7: really come into play this next week when you go
- 50:44Speaker 7: to Carolina, New York, New Jersey, Boston. Then also a
- 50:49Speaker 7: long plane ride a week from tomorrow from Boston all
- 50:52Speaker 7: the way to Utah as well, when the Kraken end
- 50:55Speaker 7: that road trip. All right, we're gonna come back in
- 50:57Speaker 7: a bit and here more with head coach Lane Lambert.
- 50:59Speaker 7: The Kraken fire back down two nothing, forcing overtime, but
- 51:02Speaker 7: Matt and Sucarello had the game winning goal of two
- 51:05Speaker 7: nine in wild three, cracking two your final score in
- 51:08Speaker 7: o t This is Talking Kracking on ninety three to
- 51:11Speaker 7: three kJ RFM.
- 51:13Speaker 2: If you've got to come in about tonight's cracking game,
- 51:16Speaker 2: make sure we hear about it.
- 51:18Speaker 13: Just text us at four nine four five one.
- 51:21Speaker 2: Now back to Tucking Kracking with Mike Benton on Sports
- 51:24Speaker 2: Radio ninety three point three kJ r FM four.
- 51:28Speaker 7: Two five, saying, grit got a point here in this one.
- 51:31Speaker 7: Watching Quinn Hughes at work was a pleasure for that
- 51:34Speaker 7: was seemed like half the game. He was on the
- 51:36Speaker 7: ice with a crack and also working so hard to
- 51:38Speaker 7: hold their own against the top offense. That from Jeff
- 51:41Speaker 7: in the four to two five. Also reaction here at
- 51:44Speaker 7: X and Twitter at the handle of the Neil Dogg
- 51:47Speaker 7: of the crack and keep playing like this, There's gonna
- 51:48Speaker 7: be a dangerous team. Philip Grubauer has been awesome again
- 51:52Speaker 7: That from X as well. Crack and Fall though three
- 51:55Speaker 7: to two in overtime to Minnesota, the Cracking getting out
- 51:59Speaker 7: of a two nighting hole on goals from Ryan Hartman
- 52:02Speaker 7: and Brock Faber back in the first period for the
- 52:04Speaker 7: Wild and the Crack, and then in the period three
- 52:06Speaker 7: Adam Larson, Matty Banier is helping lead the charge before
- 52:09Speaker 7: Zugarello ending it in overtime to nine in Mike Benton
- 52:14Speaker 7: andrews Hurst with you back downstairs, we go now for
- 52:16Speaker 7: more reaction with crackenhead coach Laane Lambert Lane.
- 52:21Speaker 19: What did you guys do from about the halfway point
- 52:23Speaker 19: of the game on, because they seem to have you
- 52:25Speaker 19: pretty bottled up defensively the first the first period and
- 52:29Speaker 19: a half or so, so.
- 52:30Speaker 29: We started taking care of the puck more, we started
- 52:34Speaker 29: attacking more. I thought the start of the game was
- 52:36Speaker 29: poor and I didn't lick her into the game either,
- 52:38Speaker 29: so we have to be ready to go. That wasn't
- 52:42Speaker 29: wasn't good enough to start and you have to play
- 52:47Speaker 29: sixty minutes.
- 52:49Speaker 19: What did you think, you know along that van, What
- 52:51Speaker 19: did you think of the tempo of the game. I mean,
- 52:53Speaker 19: it's pretty low scoring, but it seemed to have a
- 52:55Speaker 19: lot of the energy of a higher scoring game.
- 52:58Speaker 29: Just oh yeah, no, it was. It was contested. There's
- 53:02Speaker 29: no question we knew it would be.
- 53:06Speaker 6: You know.
- 53:06Speaker 29: I thought both goaltenders played well. We certainly had our opportunities,
- 53:11Speaker 29: they had their opportunities, you know. So it was a
- 53:15Speaker 29: it was a pretty good hockey game overall. You know,
- 53:18Speaker 29: if you're up in the stands watching it, I don't
- 53:20Speaker 29: know if I loved it overall standing behind the bench
- 53:22Speaker 29: watching it.
- 53:27Speaker 22: Coach, Why did you make the overtime period there? It
- 53:28Speaker 22: seemed like I guess you said the way you finished
- 53:31Speaker 22: the game. Do you mean in regulation there encoding overtime?
- 53:34Speaker 29: Overtime?
- 53:35Speaker 19: Okay?
- 53:35Speaker 22: It seemed like pock possession is just harder to come
- 53:37Speaker 22: by in this one for some reason. What did you
- 53:39Speaker 22: kind of attribute that to?
- 53:42Speaker 29: Well, you know, we started off with a lost face off,
- 53:45Speaker 29: couldn't get the puck back. They've got some dynamic players
- 53:48Speaker 29: over there, there's no question about it, So you know,
- 53:51Speaker 29: they had a couple of really good opportunities. I thought
- 53:53Speaker 29: our goaltender was excellent. And then what we've been really
- 53:58Speaker 29: good at this year and overtime is possessing the puck
- 54:01Speaker 29: and making plays when we get it, and we weren't.
- 54:04Speaker 29: We weren't good at that tonight. We gave it back
- 54:07Speaker 29: to them. We had an opportunity to catch them tired
- 54:13Speaker 29: and we were changing so that we could have had
- 54:16Speaker 29: that puck on our stick a long time, and we
- 54:17Speaker 29: tried a one on one move lost the puck and
- 54:22Speaker 29: you know, and then we didn't execute on a two
- 54:24Speaker 29: on one, So that overtime was not one of our
- 54:28Speaker 29: better ones, that's for sure.
- 54:30Speaker 22: You said recently that when when teams have two and
- 54:32Speaker 22: three gold deficits in this league, a lot of times
- 54:34Speaker 22: they don't hold back, right, they really come at you.
- 54:36Speaker 22: Did you sense that a little bit from your team
- 54:38Speaker 22: tonight in the third period when they got down to zero.
- 54:40Speaker 29: I thought we started to really play with about seven
- 54:43Speaker 29: or eight minutes left in the second period, where we
- 54:47Speaker 29: you know, we started to create some zone time, did
- 54:50Speaker 29: a really good job there, and I thought it carried
- 54:52Speaker 29: over to the third. Give our guys credit. They you know,
- 54:55Speaker 29: they did a great job to come back. It's those
- 54:57Speaker 29: are a huge, huge, huge point for us, you know.
- 55:02Speaker 29: But again the disappointment for me is that the game
- 55:05Speaker 29: started slow for us and we can't do that.
- 55:12Speaker 27: Leane, When you talked about the team creating zone time
- 55:15Speaker 27: the seven, you know, last seventy minutes of the period,
- 55:17Speaker 27: was that a matter of you know, winning the offensive
- 55:19Speaker 27: zone face offs?
- 55:20Speaker 4: More so, was there anything else.
- 55:21Speaker 29: That kind of went into that you well, there was
- 55:22Speaker 29: a couple of different reasons for it. Yeah, some of
- 55:25Speaker 29: them resulted off of face offs and things like that.
- 55:28Speaker 29: But our four check, our four check and our energy
- 55:30Speaker 29: level picked up. And again we have to have that
- 55:35Speaker 29: right from the very beginning.
- 55:39Speaker 21: The back to back power play chances there and the
- 55:41Speaker 21: third it looked like you kind of built some momentum
- 55:44Speaker 21: kind of through the first one to wear this one
- 55:45Speaker 21: in the second one game you kind of were able
- 55:47Speaker 21: to capitalize on. What'd you like about the sequence that
- 55:49Speaker 21: you guys put together to find.
- 55:50Speaker 29: That that time. I loved our power play tonight. I
- 55:53Speaker 29: think we had nine scoring chances in our power play.
- 55:55Speaker 29: Mattivenier's had a point blank slap shot from the slot
- 55:58Speaker 29: in the first period. Our power play came through for
- 56:01Speaker 29: us tonight and.
- 56:02Speaker 7: Kind of going back to Darren all right that reaction
- 56:05Speaker 7: from Krackenead coach Lane Lambert. Two takeaways I have from
- 56:08Speaker 7: this one. First off, Anders players on ice to begin overtime,
- 56:13Speaker 7: Chandler Stevenson, Berkeley Catton, and Vince Dunn. And then you
- 56:17Speaker 7: get Maddy Benier's on there and then Ryker Evans on
- 56:21Speaker 7: there as well. Minnesota generating a ton as far as
- 56:24Speaker 7: scoring chances, shot attempts as well. I'm really curious how
- 56:28Speaker 7: they respond next game after what we just heard.
- 56:32Speaker 6: Yeah, and it's it's it's unfortunate because you know you
- 56:36Speaker 6: had that the we talked about. The lost face off
- 56:39Speaker 6: is tough when you have an elite skater, especially on
- 56:42Speaker 6: the blue line like you are going against with Quinn Hughes,
- 56:46Speaker 6: the top three at worst defenseman in the league, especially
- 56:50Speaker 6: looking at how much he creates on the offensive end.
- 56:54Speaker 6: Three on three, open ice is where he thrives. And
- 56:59Speaker 6: he's so good at keeping the puck. He's creating opportunities.
- 57:02Speaker 6: And when you're in that long of a defensive shift
- 57:06Speaker 6: while giving up a couple of great a's that Philip
- 57:08Speaker 6: grubauerd did awesome against, you have to keep possession when
- 57:12Speaker 6: you get it back, and especially when your guys are
- 57:15Speaker 6: changing and stuff like that. It's in overtime it can
- 57:17Speaker 6: be so give and take. You see this with so
- 57:20Speaker 6: often with guys now where they don't even like dump
- 57:24Speaker 6: it in. They don't even take a mild opportunity if
- 57:27Speaker 6: they see one. They peel back, wait for all three
- 57:29Speaker 6: of their guys to be ready and wait for a
- 57:32Speaker 6: big opportunity to come. So I expect them to be
- 57:34Speaker 6: much better at that because as Lane Lambert mentioned they
- 57:37Speaker 6: have been really good at that this year. It's just
- 57:38Speaker 6: today they didn't execute in the same way that they
- 57:41Speaker 6: have all.
- 57:41Speaker 7: Right, before we duck out of here, we have to
- 57:43Speaker 7: also get props the power play, and Lane Lambert did so.
- 57:45Speaker 7: Maddy Beniers had the game time goal nine oh seven,
- 57:48Speaker 7: and he also brought up that great look you have
- 57:50Speaker 7: that slap shot back in period one. But folks, again
- 57:53Speaker 7: I really encourage you to go back and listen here
- 57:55Speaker 7: to the pregame show Lane Lambert's interview with us as well,
- 57:59Speaker 7: and he brought up Chris Taylor and the power playoff
- 58:02Speaker 7: the bat, where again the steps that they have taken
- 58:06Speaker 7: there is more fluidity and you're allowing skilled players to
- 58:11Speaker 7: use their instincts creatively to make plays and we're seeing
- 58:15Speaker 7: that really come to fruition now with production on this team.
- 58:17Speaker 6: Yeah, they just have so much more you know, creativity
- 58:20Speaker 6: freedom than I've seen them the last couple of years.
- 58:23Speaker 6: Like honestly, and we've talked about it all year and
- 58:27Speaker 6: people will mention that this team doesn't have maybe the
- 58:29Speaker 6: top end talent of a lot of the best teams
- 58:31Speaker 6: in the NHL. But the way you combat that is
- 58:34Speaker 6: by taking advantage of a power plays of killing penalties
- 58:39Speaker 6: when you get that chance, being really good in special
- 58:41Speaker 6: teams can make up for maybe a lack of domination
- 58:47Speaker 6: quote unquote in five on five play, and I think
- 58:49Speaker 6: they're doing a great job of that right now.
- 58:50Speaker 7: Gonna be a fun one coming up here to begin
- 58:52Speaker 7: the road trip at Carolina, right into the deep end.
- 58:54Speaker 4: You're of the Eastern Conference teams.
- 58:55Speaker 6: Oh man, it's these road trips are always fine because
- 58:58Speaker 6: it's kind of like you don't get to see these
- 58:59Speaker 6: guys very much. I'm excited to how they stack up
- 59:02Speaker 6: against some of the best teams in the league.
- 59:03Speaker 7: First of two matchups here for the Kraken and Hurricanes
- 59:06Speaker 7: to open the road trip this Saturday again four pm.
- 59:10Speaker 7: Pot drop. Hope that you can join us. It's all
- 59:12Speaker 7: the time we have again once again, thank you for
- 59:14Speaker 7: joining us and your reaction. Andrews appreciate you once again,
- 59:17Speaker 7: my friend. Fantastic work and we'll catch you down the
- 59:20Speaker 7: road once again.
- 59:20Speaker 6: Yeah, Mike, thanks for having me on. Really appreciate it.
- 59:23Speaker 7: All right again her thanks to Travis Smoger, technical director,
- 59:26Speaker 7: also Terry Ryan, her on site engineer.
- 59:28Speaker 4: And we'll do it for here for andrews Hurst and
- 59:30Speaker 4: your reaction.
- 59:31Speaker 7: This is Mike Benton saying good night from climbing Pledgerina,
- 59:34Speaker 7: and thank you for joining us. Your final score once
- 59:37Speaker 7: again in sudden depth overtime, the Minnesota Wild three and
- 59:41Speaker 7: the Seattle Kraken two. This is Talking Cracking on ninety
- 59:45Speaker 7: three to three KJRFM
