- 0:03Speaker 1: Wake up.
- 0:05Speaker 2: next to you.
- 0:07Speaker 2: Kicking off your day in the best way. It's Sonia
- 0:10Speaker 2: and Joakim on the shock circuit. Good morning. It's just
- 0:13Speaker 2: me by myself, solo for the next 8 days. Counting
- 0:16Speaker 2: it down already. Anyway, um, we're close to the end
- 0:19Speaker 2: of the week. Please hang in there. I would love
- 0:21Speaker 2: to kick things off here with Sienna's Spyro, Lady Gaga,
- 0:24Speaker 2: and more to perk you up this morning. Stay tuned.
- 0:27Speaker 2: Singapore's number one hit music station.
- 0:32Speaker 2: Speaking of mosquito, um, this was an interesting observation, OK. Um,
- 0:36Speaker 2: when I was in the south of France, I, I
- 0:38Speaker 2: knew that it was going to be summer. So, you know,
- 0:41Speaker 2: the whole hype of Euro summer because it's beautiful weather,
- 0:44Speaker 2: blue skies, but the air is still cool and crisp
- 0:46Speaker 2: and you don't really perspire, you just get tanned and toasted, right?
- 0:51Speaker 2: But aside from that, what I did not realize is
- 0:54Speaker 2: there are also mosquitoes in the south of France.
- 0:58Speaker 2: I mean, I get bitten a lot here, especially in
- 1:00Speaker 2: Asia and I'm very susceptible, but um when I go overseas,
- 1:04Speaker 2: I think I always don't really associate mosquitoes with Europe
- 1:08Speaker 2: or even the US. I don't recall ever being bitten
- 1:13Speaker 2: by things when when I was there, right?
- 1:15Speaker 2: But for some reason, I, there were quite a number
- 1:18Speaker 2: of mosquitoes. So I actually returned to Singapore with at
- 1:21Speaker 2: least 3 mosquito bites and 2 sandfly looking bites. Um, I,
- 1:27Speaker 2: I did bring insect repellent. I don't know, I somehow
- 1:29Speaker 2: left it in my luggage from the previous trip. So,
- 1:32Speaker 2: when I realized that I was getting bitten, then I
- 1:35Speaker 2: immediately cracked into it and used it, right? But too late,
- 1:37Speaker 2: I already got the bites that I got before I
- 1:40Speaker 2: even noticed or realized that.
- 1:42Speaker 2: There was this issue when I was there. So, hey,
- 1:43Speaker 2: if you are very susceptible to being bitten by anything
- 1:46Speaker 2: at all, um, we're likely of a similar blood type perhaps, and, uh, we,
- 1:51Speaker 2: we definitely need to be careful when we go overseas.
- 1:54Speaker 2: So make sure you bring your insect repellent to body
- 1:56Speaker 2: right here on 987, Singapore's number one hit music station.
- 1:59Speaker 2: Sorry to with you this morning. I'm sure you saw
- 2:01Speaker 2: the craze of the BTS tickets and how people were
- 2:05Speaker 2: going to like the temple or I think it was
- 2:08Speaker 2: a temple if I'm not wrong.
- 2:09Speaker 2: To pray for like BTS tickets.
- 2:13Speaker 2: It appeared in the news, so hopefully you got lucky. Anyway,
- 2:16Speaker 2: coming up in just a bit, I did not realize
- 2:18Speaker 2: this was going on in the Changi area here in Singapore. Um,
- 2:22Speaker 2: this particular animal was spotted, not just 1, but 5,
- 2:27Speaker 2: and they are reportedly pretty endangered. All the details coming
- 2:31Speaker 2: up next on what animal this is and what they're
- 2:33Speaker 2: gonna do with it, about them, you know, it's gonna
- 2:36Speaker 2: be a situation where you need to help because they
- 2:38Speaker 2: are quite endangered.
- 2:40Speaker 2: I am solo for the next week and a half. Wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait.
- 2:45Speaker 2: It's only tomorrow left of this week. So for about
- 2:47Speaker 2: 1 week, yes, I'll be by myself. But anyway, earlier
- 2:51Speaker 2: on I was saying I didn't realize this was happening
- 2:53Speaker 2: over in the Changi area and I, I'm feeling excited
- 2:56Speaker 2: at the same time, I'm just having my fingers crossed,
- 3:00Speaker 2: hoping that they'll be healthy and OK.
- 3:02Speaker 2: The Reason being is, there are 5 endangered leopard cats
- 3:06Speaker 2: that have been spotted in the Changi area and it's
- 3:08Speaker 2: been confirmed already by authorities. They even have like night
- 3:11Speaker 2: vision cam and all these like receipts of the fact
- 3:15Speaker 2: that there are 5 endangered leopard cats existing right now.
- 3:18Speaker 2: And what's going to happen is, um, plans to relocate
- 3:21Speaker 2: them to suitable habitats are underway right now. In the
- 3:26Speaker 2: second half of 2026, they're definitely going to try and
- 3:29Speaker 2: move all of them into um safe, suitable habitats, and
- 3:33Speaker 2: the potential relocation sites may include things like nature areas,
- 3:37Speaker 2: nature reserves, and so on. So, here's hoping that the
- 3:40Speaker 2: kitty cats get there safe. I think N Park's actually
- 3:43Speaker 2: consulted the Singapore Wildcat Action Group.
- 3:47Speaker 2: The acronym is Swag.
- 3:50Speaker 2: SWAG, I'm not kidding. Singapore Wildcat Action Group. That's like the,
- 3:54Speaker 2: that's gonna be the coolest association name ever. Um, and
- 3:58Speaker 2: I think, you know, mammal researchers were consulted as well
- 4:01Speaker 2: to see what the best way, what the best way
- 4:04Speaker 2: about going about this would be, but Nars will not
- 4:06Speaker 2: be revealing the exact relocation sites. I think, um, they're
- 4:10Speaker 2: concerned about humans, us people, disturbing them, and other illegal activities,
- 4:15Speaker 2: you know, poaching and all that, so.
- 4:17Speaker 2: Um, hopefully, we'll be updated by the relevant authorities to
- 4:21Speaker 2: see what's going on with our kitty cats, and I'm
- 4:23Speaker 2: wishing them all the best. Thank you for joining me
- 4:25Speaker 2: this Thursday morning. If you're already up and you're heading
- 4:27Speaker 2: somewhere else, could be, um, a paddle game, could be gym,
- 4:31Speaker 2: could be work. I mean, if you want to get
- 4:33Speaker 2: in early, right? Because typically when I drive into work,
- 4:36Speaker 2: I always think to myself like, should I stop by
- 4:39Speaker 2: somewhere to try and tap out something or
- 4:41Speaker 2: I don't know, buy breakfast or something, which I usually don't.
- 4:44Speaker 2: I'm usually rushing in. So now, I'm in a bit
- 4:47Speaker 2: of a dilemma because I'm looking at McDonald's and it's
- 4:50Speaker 2: looking very good right now. So I need you to
- 4:53Speaker 2: help me. Should I order McDonald's or not? Please text
- 4:57Speaker 2: me 90050987. Should I get McDonald's? Ah.
- 5:02Speaker 2: There is a chance that I get to speak to him, uh, tomorrow.
- 5:05Speaker 2: Of course, not face to face, but hopefully, you know,
- 5:08Speaker 2: when the kid LeRoy comes to Singapore, then yay, maybe,
- 5:11Speaker 2: maybe we'll get an opportunity, right, to speak to him IRL. Anyway,
- 5:15Speaker 2: like I said earlier, how would you consider your luck?
- 5:18Speaker 2: Are you a very lucky person? Like, you know, you
- 5:21Speaker 2: start the day, everything seems to go right all the time.
- 5:23Speaker 2: You've never had a bad day.
- 5:25Speaker 2: Um, or do you consider yourself not that lucky, only
- 5:28Speaker 2: selectively so, and you've never won a lucky draw before?
- 5:32Speaker 2: Actually, me, me too, you know, I've never won those
- 5:35Speaker 2: like D&D lucky draws or stage games or whatever. I
- 5:39Speaker 2: never have. Um, this Thai lady who's only 25 years old,
- 5:44Speaker 2: she has had a rough time, you know, um, of late,
- 5:47Speaker 2: she's been struggling with debt, and I think she's expecting
- 5:50Speaker 2: as well. Guess what happened? She dreamt of a number.
- 5:55Speaker 2: And she decided to buy the lottery and won Thailand's
- 6:00Speaker 2: top lottery prize of $6 million baht that works out
- 6:04Speaker 2: to be about a quarter of a million dollars Singapore dollars,
- 6:07Speaker 2: so almost $250,000. Um, she said an elderly figure materialized
- 6:13Speaker 2: in her dreams, telling her to bet on the ticket
- 6:16Speaker 2: number 173,770, and it came out. Can you believe it
- 6:20Speaker 2: or not?
- 6:21Speaker 2: That's crazy. She actually sells vegetables in um like a
- 6:25Speaker 2: shopping center market and she, you know, still continues to
- 6:30Speaker 2: carry on with her business and her livelihood.
- 6:32Speaker 2: But I thought it was just incredible. I mean, sometimes
- 6:35Speaker 2: I see certain, I notice certain numbers or I, I
- 6:40Speaker 2: wouldn't say dream of them, but there were certain coincidences
- 6:43Speaker 2: that happened before that you're like, oh, this number, but
- 6:46Speaker 2: you know, I'm the kind of person, right, that I'll
- 6:47Speaker 2: think of it for one second and then I forget
- 6:49Speaker 2: to do it, and then the, the chance goes by, right?
- 6:53Speaker 2: And I'd rather not check to see if I won
- 6:55Speaker 2: because why make yourself feel that way?
- 6:58Speaker 2: So, yeah, once again, not encouraging gambling, but I just
- 7:01Speaker 2: thought this was an incredible story of how sheer luck
- 7:05Speaker 2: and her actioning on the sign that was given to
- 7:08Speaker 2: her resulted in something miraculous. Coming up in just a
- 7:12Speaker 2: few minutes, some pretty incredible story coming out from Woodlands,
- 7:16Speaker 2: and this brought me back to the times that I
- 7:20Speaker 2: was still on probation for driving. So, I guess you
- 7:23Speaker 2: call it like P plate, right, or beginner's plate.
- 7:25Speaker 2: And I was always always quite worried because I know
- 7:28Speaker 2: that within the first few months when you have to,
- 7:30Speaker 2: when you have to place it on your dashboard, it's
- 7:33Speaker 2: actually 6 months or a year, I can't remember how
- 7:35Speaker 2: long you have to put your P plate on, maybe
- 7:37Speaker 2: the first year. Um, you know, I was, I was
- 7:40Speaker 2: very paranoid. I was worried, like, how am I driving?
- 7:43Speaker 2: Am I doing it properly? Can I park? Gave me
- 7:45Speaker 2: a lot of anxiety. Um, over in a car park
- 7:49Speaker 2: in Woodlands, this happened, and I'm so relieved that everyone
- 7:54Speaker 2: was safe. Taking you to Woodlands right now. And like
- 7:58Speaker 2: I said, this brought me back to memories of uh
- 8:00Speaker 2: the P plates or rather the, you know, learner license, right? So,
- 8:05Speaker 2: this particular um car park got a bit of a commotion. Um,
- 8:09Speaker 2: a driver was sending the kids to tuition when the
- 8:13Speaker 2: entire car overturned in the car park, and it turns
- 8:16Speaker 2: out that this lady
- 8:19Speaker 2: Apparently she got her driving license 3 months ago. Now,
- 8:22Speaker 2: I'm only chuckling because everyone's OK. Um, she was sending
- 8:25Speaker 2: her kids to tuition, like I mentioned, right, and it
- 8:27Speaker 2: skidded at the multi-storey car park. I think it was
- 8:30Speaker 2: like a ramp kind of situation. So the car was
- 8:32Speaker 2: actually found resting um on, on a, on a ramp
- 8:37Speaker 2: in front of the exit barrier of the car park.
- 8:39Speaker 2: So the walls of the slope, they were all scratched,
- 8:42Speaker 2: the windows were shattered, the doors were dented.
- 8:44Speaker 2: The hood was damaged. I mean, look, a lot of,
- 8:47Speaker 2: a lot of people who saw, I guess what happened
- 8:50Speaker 2: or the pictures of the car, were just like, how
- 8:52Speaker 2: is this actually possible? And I was wondering the same thing. I,
- 8:56Speaker 2: it's a pretty big car, you know. So when I
- 8:59Speaker 2: saw the pictures, it just didn't make like sense at all,
- 9:03Speaker 2: like physics, where's the physics in this?
- 9:06Speaker 2: Um, but she, she, well, she was safe, thankfully, her
- 9:10Speaker 2: kids were safe as well, and she said that she
- 9:13Speaker 2: lost control of the vehicle while exiting the parking lot. So, fortunately,
- 9:16Speaker 2: everyone's OK. They managed to climb out of the car
- 9:18Speaker 2: and guess what? The two kids actually went for tuition
- 9:21Speaker 2: still by the bus. It's so crazy. They still went
- 9:25Speaker 2: for tuition. That's, that's commitment, man, I gotta say. Oh boy,
- 9:29Speaker 2: I'm just so glad that they're safe, to be honest,
- 9:31Speaker 2: and
- 9:32Speaker 2: Um, the mystery to how this massive car flips, I'll
- 9:36Speaker 2: let the internet solve it for us. Joakim's away, in
- 9:39Speaker 2: case you just joined us and you've never tuned in
- 9:41Speaker 2: to us before, typically, we're a pair, we're a team,
- 9:44Speaker 2: and he's decided to go off for a short trip
- 9:47Speaker 2: to Bhutan.
- 9:48Speaker 2: Actually not that short. Um, I remember the last time
- 9:50Speaker 2: I went to Bhutan, it was at least 7 days,
- 9:53Speaker 2: but that was for like work. So it was filming
- 9:56Speaker 2: in a way. I think in total with his flight,
- 9:58Speaker 2: he's going for about 8 or 9 days. That's the
- 10:01Speaker 2: amount of time he'll be away for. But our, our
- 10:04Speaker 2: trips could not be more different because
- 10:06Speaker 2: He told me that there's going to be a lot
- 10:07Speaker 2: of running in his and uh admittedly, when he told
- 10:11Speaker 2: me like, because I'm his only friend, right, and that's, uh,
- 10:13Speaker 2: that's a fact, he doesn't hide it. He texted me
- 10:16Speaker 2: and updated me last night like what he was going
- 10:18Speaker 2: to be doing today, and he said, well, he's meeting
- 10:21Speaker 2: a bunch of runners to go for um like a
- 10:25Speaker 2: morning run kind of situation, and it's nothing related to
- 10:28Speaker 2: Tiger's Nest hiking. So, yeah, he's choosing to do extra
- 10:32Speaker 2: runs aside from the hike.
- 10:34Speaker 2: To me, um, very different from my trip. The hike
- 10:37Speaker 2: was the one and only hike that I did the
- 10:40Speaker 2: entire trip.
- 10:42Speaker 2: The rest of the time we're filming other things and
- 10:44Speaker 2: other activities, uh, but yeah, definitely not the running for me.
- 10:49Speaker 2: I understand that when it comes to uh traveling to Bhutan,
- 10:52Speaker 2: there are other more extreme, um, hikes as well that
- 10:55Speaker 2: you can do where you actually camp out there in
- 10:57Speaker 2: the wilderness for 7 or 8 nights or something, so.
- 11:01Speaker 2: Yeah, if that, that floats your boat, then maybe you
- 11:03Speaker 2: might want to consider that. But for me, I, I
- 11:06Speaker 2: think I need a proper bed to sleep in. I cannot,
- 11:08Speaker 2: I can't do the camping. Coming up right after 8,
- 11:10Speaker 2: so like I mentioned earlier, I'm gonna open up the
- 11:12Speaker 2: phone lines. Now, this was pretty interesting because when it
- 11:15Speaker 2: broke the news, um, I think it was just what,
- 11:18Speaker 2: like probably last night, if I'm not wrong, um, people
- 11:20Speaker 2: start talking about it. My friends were sharing it and
- 11:23Speaker 2: talking about it too. I'm sure you would have read
- 11:25Speaker 2: it by now, the life expectancy for Singapore residents.
- 11:29Speaker 2: Has officially risen a little bit, and it is now
- 11:32Speaker 2: 83.9 years in the year as of 2025. So over
- 11:37Speaker 2: the past 10 years, I think um total life expectancy
- 11:40Speaker 2: for the men have improved by 1.3 years, while for
- 11:44Speaker 2: females it's close to 1, it's about like 0.9. So,
- 11:47Speaker 2: I think, you know, it just goes to show that
- 11:49Speaker 2: we are aging better, I would say. Um, maybe our
- 11:53Speaker 2: healthcare here is better, people are healthier.
- 11:56Speaker 2: Um, it continues to improve. I think the numbers just
- 11:59Speaker 2: keep rising since 2015 till now, over a span of
- 12:02Speaker 2: 10 years, it has not dropped, just kept rising. Um,
- 12:06Speaker 2: and I think for most of our parents right now,
- 12:08Speaker 2: if you're tuning in, if you're a millennial, likely your
- 12:11Speaker 2: parents are what, like in their sixties or maybe even
- 12:13Speaker 2: 70s at this point, right?
- 12:15Speaker 2: Um, you may still have your grandparents around, I'm not sure,
- 12:18Speaker 2: but it definitely seems like life expectancy is improving and
- 12:22Speaker 2: healthcare and our awareness is getting better over the generations
- 12:26Speaker 2: and the years. Um, so coming up right after 8 a.m.,
- 12:30Speaker 2: Just want to get your opinion and what your views
- 12:33Speaker 2: are about living a very, very, very long, fruitful life
- 12:37Speaker 2: to the age of 80+. I mean, I used to
- 12:40Speaker 2: think humans can live up to 100 and then you
- 12:42Speaker 2: become an adult and you realize, OK, that's not really
- 12:45Speaker 2: the case. In fact, living to your 80s is already
- 12:48Speaker 2: very good, right? Especially if you have a healthy, especially
- 12:52Speaker 2: if you are healthy.
- 12:53Speaker 2: And you can have a good quality of life. So,
- 12:55Speaker 2: let's discuss that. Coming up right after 8:00 a.m. sand
- 12:59Speaker 2: by because your $100 voucher to shop all thanks to
- 13:02Speaker 2: our friends at Lazada, celebrating 6/6 that could officially be yours,
- 13:07Speaker 2: and I want you to have it because they've got
- 13:09Speaker 2: everything from beauty, lifestyle, tech. If you're traveling very soon,
- 13:14Speaker 2: any sort of
- 13:15Speaker 2: Those items at all, that definitely requires that $100 voucher
- 13:20Speaker 2: thanks to Lazada and join them as they celebrate 66. Now,
- 13:24Speaker 2: earlier on I was saying um a bit of a
- 13:26Speaker 2: commentary online right now about how our life expectancy has
- 13:30Speaker 2: improved quite a lot over the past 10 years here
- 13:32Speaker 2: in Singapore and it is no surprise. I mean, I
- 13:35Speaker 2: think our healthcare is good.
- 13:37Speaker 2: Um, you know, even if I look around right now
- 13:40Speaker 2: at the millennials and even the older millennials, they're very
- 13:43Speaker 2: much more aware of how to take care of themselves. Um,
- 13:46Speaker 2: so perhaps due to a combination of factors and things,
- 13:50Speaker 2: our life expectancy continues to improve. So officially, as of 2025, um,
- 13:55Speaker 2: the average life expectancy would be 83.9. So, you will
- 14:00Speaker 2: live up until your eighties, maybe even your mid-eighties very
- 14:04Speaker 2: soon as the numbers continue to improve, right?
- 14:07Speaker 2: And this actually got me thinking because when I was
- 14:09Speaker 2: in Europe just last week, just last week.
- 14:13Speaker 2: I'm so sad to be back. Um, holiday, major holiday blues,
- 14:17Speaker 2: you know. So I saw quite a lot of old
- 14:20Speaker 2: couples and older couples, um, possibly even older than my parents.
- 14:25Speaker 2: My parents are 70 and 71 this year, respectively, and
- 14:30Speaker 2: they lead quite a, a much slower pace of life,
- 14:33Speaker 2: especially in Europe, right? And there are so many cute
- 14:36Speaker 2: older couples with like, you know, fully white hair already,
- 14:39Speaker 2: they probably have grandkids or whatever.
- 14:40Speaker 2: They're just enjoying life, and some of them are still,
- 14:43Speaker 2: you know, having wine together in the middle of the day, um,
- 14:46Speaker 2: having a nice slow lunch together, I guess, to a
- 14:49Speaker 2: certain extent, they also are quite lucky to be living
- 14:53Speaker 2: in that part of the world, and perhaps maybe they
- 14:56Speaker 2: have a certain financial capability to live and lead a
- 14:59Speaker 2: certain life, right?
- 15:00Speaker 2: Because these places that I went to visit, they're not,
- 15:03Speaker 2: they're not your usual places, you know, we went there as,
- 15:07Speaker 2: as tourists to sightsee, but the fact that the locals
- 15:10Speaker 2: there can afford to be in those places, I guess
- 15:12Speaker 2: they already do have a certain quality of life. So, um,
- 15:16Speaker 2: wanted to
- 15:17Speaker 2: Open up the phone lines, 669-11987 and find out from you.
- 15:21Speaker 2: How do you envision yourself at 80 years old? Let's
- 15:27Speaker 2: have fun with this here today, OK? At 80 years old,
- 15:30Speaker 2: what do you envision yourself doing at 8 a.m.?
- 15:34Speaker 2: You know, you wake up in the morning, what, what
- 15:35Speaker 2: are you doing? How are you gonna spend your time?
- 15:38Speaker 2: Are you still hanging out with your girlfriends or the
- 15:40Speaker 2: crew that you have right now? What do you envision
- 15:44Speaker 2: yourself doing at the age of about 80 and now
- 15:48Speaker 2: that the life expectancy here in Singapore is just getting
- 15:51Speaker 2: better and better, yeah, we might have to plan what
- 15:53Speaker 2: we want to do with our friends in our 80s now.
- 15:56Speaker 2: Give me a call at 669-11987. How do you envision
- 16:00Speaker 2: yourself at 80 years old? You can also drop me
- 16:03Speaker 2: a WhatsApp message, 90050987. I actually had to rewatch Barbie
- 16:09Speaker 2: the movie on the plane because when it came out
- 16:13Speaker 2: and my friends bought tickets for us to go watch, right?
- 16:16Speaker 2: I completely fell asleep during the entire movie. It was
- 16:19Speaker 2: like a weeknight. I was very tired, fell asleep, nobody
- 16:21Speaker 2: could wake me up. So yeah, I missed the whole movie.
- 16:24Speaker 2: I only woke up at the end, so I had
- 16:26Speaker 2: to rewatch it on the plane.
- 16:28Speaker 2: Anyway, uh, we're talking about our increasing life expectancy right now. Um,
- 16:32Speaker 2: Singapore residents are expected to live up to 83.9 years
- 16:38Speaker 2: old now, getting longer and longer. Um, so a lot
- 16:40Speaker 2: of statistics, I think if you want to read the
- 16:42Speaker 2: full breakdown, please log on to any of the news websites. Um, it's,
- 16:46Speaker 2: it's just simply the fact that our healthcare is getting better.
- 16:51Speaker 2: Getting more aware of how to take care of ourselves, perhaps. Um,
- 16:54Speaker 2: so here's hoping that we, you know, live very nice
- 16:56Speaker 2: long lives. I remember my grandma actually lived to her 80s,
- 17:01Speaker 2: if I'm not wrong, like 80, 80 or 80 plus,
- 17:03Speaker 2: maybe early 80s, and that was already quite a number
- 17:07Speaker 2: of years ago since she passed on. So I can
- 17:09Speaker 2: only imagine in our generation, you know, the millennials, the
- 17:12Speaker 2: Gen Z's, and even the Gen alphas coming out very soon,
- 17:15Speaker 2: with more awareness of how to take care of ourselves
- 17:17Speaker 2: and
- 17:18Speaker 2: Our health. Well, we live to 100. I don't know
- 17:21Speaker 2: what the numbers are gonna be like in the future,
- 17:23Speaker 2: but I wanted to open up phone lines, 669-11987 and
- 17:26Speaker 2: also our messages. How do you envision yourself being like
- 17:31Speaker 2: at the age of 80, for example, if we live
- 17:33Speaker 2: that long, right? Cause I was also reflecting on the
- 17:36Speaker 2: fact that since I've come back from Europe, I was
- 17:39Speaker 2: Just thinking about all the elderly couples I saw that
- 17:41Speaker 2: were living their best lives. They're so stylish, you know,
- 17:45Speaker 2: in Europe, they, um, they're cute elderly couples together walking
- 17:49Speaker 2: around just enjoying an ice cream or sharing a bottle
- 17:52Speaker 2: of wine by the riverside in France. I mean,
- 17:55Speaker 2: Wow, it was just so ideal and I got myself wondering,
- 17:58Speaker 2: it got me wondering, how am I gonna be like
- 18:00Speaker 2: at 80? Will I still be gossiping with my girlfriends?
- 18:04Speaker 2: I sure hope so, like we can still meet on
- 18:06Speaker 2: a daily basis. Say hi to someone from JB actually,
- 18:10Speaker 2: thank you for tuning in from across the causeway, Charlotte.
- 18:13Speaker 2: You said, hi, morning, Sonia. I envisioned myself at 80,
- 18:17Speaker 2: hanging out with my 4 other sisters by the pool,
- 18:20Speaker 2: having vodka or wine and bullying our grandkids.
- 18:25Speaker 2: I said, oh, I love it. Um, you said, yeah,
- 18:27Speaker 2: for now, I'm already bullying my kids, throwing one by
- 18:30Speaker 2: one into the pool. That's cute. That's cute. I mean,
- 18:33Speaker 2: I can only hope that friendships like that really stand
- 18:35Speaker 2: the test of time and you become lifelong friends, you know, that's,
- 18:38Speaker 2: that's just incredible. OK, um, more messages coming through here
- 18:43Speaker 2: and I believe you, you didn't leave your name, but
- 18:46Speaker 2: I'm just gonna go with your initial. Um, OK, initial K.
- 18:49Speaker 2: You said, morning, Sonia. Welcome back. So happy to hear you. Oh,
- 18:52Speaker 2: thank you, Kay.
- 18:53Speaker 2: Um, I would envision myself at 80 years old playing
- 18:57Speaker 2: mahjong with my closest besties. We met when we were
- 19:00Speaker 2: in secondary school and until now, we're currently in our 30s.
- 19:04Speaker 2: I suspect we're around the same generation, Sonia. Um, we
- 19:07Speaker 2: would still hang out like every 2 weeks or so,
- 19:10Speaker 2: we'll have a meetup.
- 19:11Speaker 2: And even though life is taking us in different directions now, um,
- 19:14Speaker 2: 2 of us are married, the rest aren't, and some
- 19:17Speaker 2: are even very, very busy with their work. People are
- 19:19Speaker 2: getting married later and later. We still try and make
- 19:21Speaker 2: the effort to meet every 2 weeks. So at 80,
- 19:24Speaker 2: I hope nothing changes and we'll still be as tight
- 19:27Speaker 2: as we were in secondary school and now. That's really sweet, Kay.
- 19:31Speaker 2: I really hope for that as well, because friendship means
- 19:34Speaker 2: the world to me, especially as an only child. Um,
- 19:37Speaker 2: don't have any siblings to yap to or chat to, right? So,
- 19:41Speaker 2: My besties and my friends become my sisters. I think
- 19:44Speaker 2: that's just natural that you lean on them in that way. Now,
- 19:47Speaker 2: we got time for your calls, 669-11987. Give me a call.
- 19:50Speaker 2: I would love to hear your voice. How do you
- 19:53Speaker 2: envision yourself at 80 years old? Let me know. You
- 19:57Speaker 2: can get creative with it, you can
- 19:59Speaker 2: You know, get funny with it, whatever you want, let
- 20:02Speaker 2: me know. Just tell me what your vision is for you,
- 20:05Speaker 2: your friends and your family at age of 80. And
- 20:09Speaker 2: we're having a fun one here today, seeing how Singaporeans
- 20:11Speaker 2: are expected to live longer and longer lives as the
- 20:15Speaker 2: years go, and I, I think a survey has already
- 20:17Speaker 2: shown that over the past 10 years, our life expectancy
- 20:20Speaker 2: has improved a lot.
- 20:22Speaker 2: So now we're projected to live into our 80s. So
- 20:25Speaker 2: I had a cute question for you here today. How
- 20:28Speaker 2: do you envision yourself at the age of 80? And
- 20:32Speaker 2: I was also looking back and reflecting on all the
- 20:34Speaker 2: older couples that I saw in Europe enjoying their lives,
- 20:37Speaker 2: you know, like, just sipping wine together, looking at the
- 20:41Speaker 2: beautiful scenery, and I just wondered, yeah, for a moment,
- 20:44Speaker 2: how would life be like at 80?
- 20:46Speaker 2: Well, heading to your messages first, saying hi here to Joyce.
- 20:49Speaker 2: You say, morning, Sonia. When I grow old, I can
- 20:52Speaker 2: imagine hanging out with my husband, still throwing fits here
- 20:55Speaker 2: and there, and he's just being his usual loving, caring self,
- 20:58Speaker 2: accepting me for who I am, always reminding him to
- 21:02Speaker 2: eat his meds. Maybe we'll be fixing puzzles and Legos together.
- 21:06Speaker 2: That's really cute. That's really cute. Thank you for sharing.
- 21:09Speaker 2: Um, and we're also gonna head to the phone lines
- 21:11Speaker 2: right now. So good morning. Hello, who's this? I'm Serene. Serene, Serene,
- 21:15Speaker 2: who are you in the car with right now? It
- 21:17Speaker 2: sounds like there are 5 people inside.
- 21:20Speaker 2: My children. That's, yeah, but they say no. OK, no worries,
- 21:26Speaker 2: you can answer then. So we're having a fun one
- 21:29Speaker 2: here today. Now that the life expectancy of Singaporeans are
- 21:32Speaker 2: just increasing, right? How do you envision yourself at the
- 21:35Speaker 2: age of 80? Oh, we were discussing it actually that
- 21:38Speaker 2: we got in. Oh, we are, we, we, we, uh, yeah,
- 21:41Speaker 2: we're saying that at 80 years old, OK, we envision
- 21:44Speaker 2: ourselves sitting in a flying car because my son is
- 21:46Speaker 2: going to try to invent it.
- 21:49Speaker 2: He wants to invent one, so he has, yeah, he
- 21:52Speaker 2: has quite a lot of time. He has quite a
- 21:53Speaker 2: lot of time. Yeah. And, and where will this flying
- 21:57Speaker 2: car take you guys to? Around the uh in Singapore
- 22:00Speaker 2: first successful.
- 22:04Speaker 2: I like how you're talking about this like he's already
- 22:06Speaker 2: in the works. So can I ask you, what's the
- 22:08Speaker 2: progress of the flying car? Are you in the design
- 22:10Speaker 2: stage yet?
- 22:12Speaker 2: In the thinking stage. Talking about life expectancy and how
- 22:17Speaker 2: Singaporeans are expected to live even longer now, thanks to,
- 22:21Speaker 2: I guess, you know, technology, good healthcare, better awareness of
- 22:24Speaker 2: our health, and just a whole bunch of other factors, right?
- 22:27Speaker 2: We are just gonna live longer lives, whether you like
- 22:30Speaker 2: it or not. If you take care of yourself properly,
- 22:32Speaker 2: of course, I would love to live a nice long life,
- 22:34Speaker 2: you know, with um a good quality of life, of course,
- 22:37Speaker 2: that's why they always say health is wealth, right?
- 22:40Speaker 2: So we had a bunch of uh pretty interesting answers
- 22:42Speaker 2: here today. I asked you, how do you envision yourself
- 22:45Speaker 2: at 80 years old? Now, it's, it always seems very
- 22:49Speaker 2: far away, right? But then, you know, you look at
- 22:51Speaker 2: your parents now and they're aging, you know, your grandparents,
- 22:54Speaker 2: even your aunties and uncles, it's like, wow, you, you,
- 22:57Speaker 2: you think they're invincible and you want them to live
- 22:59Speaker 2: on forever, but the reality is, a lot of them
- 23:02Speaker 2: are inching closer to their senior years or golden years, right?
- 23:06Speaker 2: And it just got me wondering, yeah, how would I
- 23:08Speaker 2: be like at 80? Um, more messages coming through right now.
- 23:12Speaker 2: We're gonna go there first before we get back to calls.
- 23:15Speaker 2: Nick actually sent in a message. Morning, Sonia. Congrats once
- 23:18Speaker 2: again to you and your hubby. Oh, thank you. And
- 23:21Speaker 2: you continue, you said, at 80 years old, I envision
- 23:24Speaker 2: walking with my wife, holding hands, getting bottles of wine
- 23:28Speaker 2: or soju at fair price instead of wine connection.
- 23:32Speaker 2: Both of us do love a good bottle of drinks.
- 23:35Speaker 2: Don't think this will change when we turn 80. Maybe
- 23:38Speaker 2: just drink lesser la. Um, seeing your posts during your
- 23:41Speaker 2: honeymoon makes me want to go to the south of
- 23:44Speaker 2: France with my wife. You have to go, Nick. Oh, man,
- 23:48Speaker 2: I mean, you know, it required quite a lot of
- 23:51Speaker 2: effort to plan a trip like that, right? But
- 23:53Speaker 2: I believe you can do it. And I told you,
- 23:55Speaker 2: please go, it's amazing, to which Nick replied that you
- 23:58Speaker 2: want to start planning it right now. No regrets, man.
- 24:01Speaker 2: Ever since going there, I'm like, how do we plot
- 24:04Speaker 2: to be here every year now during Euro Summer? That
- 24:08Speaker 2: would be the dream. Maybe even retire there, right? Yeah.
- 24:11Speaker 2: I'm getting so many messages right now, um, because earlier
- 24:15Speaker 2: on I was talking about how the life expectancy here
- 24:17Speaker 2: in Singapore is only gonna get longer, you know, and
- 24:21Speaker 2: we are slated to live to our 80s now, which
- 24:24Speaker 2: is some could view it as a good thing, right?
- 24:27Speaker 2: Because our healthcare is getting better. We have better awareness
- 24:30Speaker 2: of ourselves. So I want to say hi here to, OK,
- 24:33Speaker 2: once again, you didn't quite leave a name.
- 24:35Speaker 2: But you said, morning, Sonia. Things I still want to
- 24:37Speaker 2: do when I'm 80. Number 1, travel. Number 2, crochet,
- 24:41Speaker 2: knit and sew. Number 3, exercise, particularly weights and cardio.
- 24:46Speaker 2: Number 4, eat whatever I want and be independent. I
- 24:51Speaker 2: see my parents aging and I always encourage them to
- 24:53Speaker 2: work out. They're 73 and are still able to do
- 24:56Speaker 2: most things for themselves. Mom loves going for long hikes
- 24:59Speaker 2: and dad does bodyweight exercise at home.
- 25:02Speaker 2: It's one thing to have a long lifespan and another
- 25:05Speaker 2: to have a long health span. I'm currently at the
- 25:07Speaker 2: gym trying to increase my health span and take care
- 25:10Speaker 2: of my parents. Oh, so cute. I do most of
- 25:12Speaker 2: the heavy lifting, literally like buying rice and I'm guessing groceries,
- 25:17Speaker 2: and you sent me a video of you at the gym,
- 25:21Speaker 2: and to which I said, excellent work. Oh, I love
- 25:23Speaker 2: that for you. You inspire me. I have not been
- 25:26Speaker 2: to the gym since I came back from my trip
- 25:28Speaker 2: because I've just been very sad.
- 25:31Speaker 2: I've just been like, oh, and yeah, I've been um
- 25:35Speaker 2: eating a lot of local foods, so that isn't helping. OK,
- 25:39Speaker 2: saying hi here to Alice. You say, morning, Sonia. When
- 25:43Speaker 2: we were young, we'll sit on the pram and our
- 25:46Speaker 2: parents will clean us up. When I'm old, it'll be
- 25:48Speaker 2: the opposite. The caregivers will end up having to clean
- 25:51Speaker 2: me up. haha, good day ahead. Oh no. I mean, look,
- 25:55Speaker 2: facts are facts, right? But like our earlier texter said,
- 25:59Speaker 2: Health is definitely wealth. So, 100%, I agree. Um, I
- 26:03Speaker 2: got a message here coming through. You also did not
- 26:05Speaker 2: leave your name, but your, your initials are MS on
- 26:10Speaker 2: On WhatsApp. You said, good morning, Mrs. Sung. Welcome home.
- 26:14Speaker 2: I hope to still be able to go out for dates, um,
- 26:17Speaker 2: in the nights, but after helping out charities focused on
- 26:21Speaker 2: supporting youths. Now, I've been serving troubled youths for a
- 26:24Speaker 2: long time and at the moment, we're still going to
- 26:27Speaker 2: serve them until God tells us otherwise. Also, congratulations to you. Oh,
- 26:31Speaker 2: thank you so much for that. We're gonna wrap it
- 26:33Speaker 2: up with the last few messages here. Didn't expect this
- 26:35Speaker 2: to get so much response, but we were talking about
- 26:38Speaker 2: life expectancy here in Singapore.
- 26:40Speaker 2: And how it's only gonna get, you know, longer and
- 26:43Speaker 2: longer because with healthcare, with technology, with our own awareness,
- 26:47Speaker 2: we are definitely gonna live till our 80s, as of now,
- 26:50Speaker 2: at least, right? Almost early to mid 80s is the
- 26:52Speaker 2: life expectancy. So, last couple of messages here, um, a
- 26:56Speaker 2: lot of you also sending me very long messages saying,
- 27:00Speaker 2: you know, most, mostly millennial millennials saying how it is
- 27:03Speaker 2: very painful to watch your, your parents grow older and
- 27:07Speaker 2: some of you actually had a similar response saying that
- 27:10Speaker 2: Looking at your parents not knowing about taking care of
- 27:14Speaker 2: yourself as much as we do right now in our
- 27:16Speaker 2: younger generation, you know, it inspires us to take even
- 27:20Speaker 2: better care of ourselves because you still want to be
- 27:22Speaker 2: healthy when you're like 70 or 80 years old, right?
- 27:24Speaker 2: That would be, that would be the dream for sure.
- 27:28Speaker 2: OK, so, um, a message you coming through and your
- 27:31Speaker 2: name is Andy. You said morning songs. At 80, my
- 27:34Speaker 2: wife and I will sit at the beach or someplace
- 27:36Speaker 2: nice with the kids and the grandkids and we'll whisper
- 27:40Speaker 2: to each other, we made it. Oh, that's so sweet.
- 27:45Speaker 2: I love that answer. That's really, really sweet and that
- 27:47Speaker 2: is the dream for sure, right? Um, to be able
- 27:50Speaker 2: to spend time with someone that you don't mind doing
- 27:53Speaker 2: life with, I think that's the key.
- 27:55Speaker 2: OK, um, after all your messages and your calls, one
- 27:58Speaker 2: person is walking away with the Lazada 66 shopping experience
- 28:03Speaker 2: worth $100 and it goes to Serene. Congratulations.
- 28:08Speaker 2: You caught me with your kids and your family in
- 28:10Speaker 2: the car?
- 28:12Speaker 2: Such a cute one. I really hope that we get
- 28:15Speaker 2: that flying car very soon to catch up with all
- 28:18Speaker 2: the answers, all creative ones, especially that we read out too,
- 28:23Speaker 2: and very thoughtful, meaningful ones as well. Log on to me,
- 28:26Speaker 2: listen and Spotify, that is after the show. Remember to
- 28:29Speaker 2: visit Lazada_SG or that is Lazada.sg to find out more
- 28:33Speaker 2: about their 66 sale for anything from fashion.
- 28:37Speaker 2: To beauty, gadgets and travel essentials. Some food news, food news.
- 28:42Speaker 2: Sonia with the good food news, and I'm ashamed to
- 28:45Speaker 2: say that I have not tried this yet, despite it
- 28:49Speaker 2: having been opened in Singapore, although it was quite recent,
- 28:52Speaker 2: it's not that long ago since they brought this to Singapore,
- 28:56Speaker 2: and they're already opening a second outlet and I haven't
- 28:58Speaker 2: even tried it just yet.
- 29:00Speaker 2: It is Lotteria Singapore. Did you guess it right? Because
- 29:05Speaker 2: I know earlier on, uh, when I said they're opening
- 29:07Speaker 2: the second outlets, I realized that people might be thinking
- 29:11Speaker 2: Yochi as well because Yochi is opening their second outlet, StarVista, after,
- 29:15Speaker 2: you know, having, um, opened in Singapore not too long ago,
- 29:18Speaker 2: but it's been so crowded over the Orchard one. I
- 29:21Speaker 2: just never had the patience to, to do it or
- 29:24Speaker 2: had the time to, to wait in line to get Yochie, right?
- 29:26Speaker 2: But I know it's very good. I know, I really
- 29:28Speaker 2: want to go.
- 29:29Speaker 2: Um, Lotteria though, opening the 2nd outlets in Singapore in Jurong.
- 29:34Speaker 2: So West Siers, you can easily choose whichever South Korean
- 29:38Speaker 2: burger you want right now and the bulgogi burger or
- 29:40Speaker 2: other opening specials that they have.
- 29:42Speaker 2: I think they definitely always try to, you know, cater
- 29:45Speaker 2: to the local taste buds a little bit, right? So
- 29:47Speaker 2: I I'm curious to see what they'll come up with.
- 29:50Speaker 2: I'm sure they'll have some specials coming up very soon.
- 29:52Speaker 2: There'll be exclusive merch and opening specials as well, like
- 29:56Speaker 2: we mentioned earlier, but the exact opening date will be
- 29:58Speaker 2: announced at a later time.
- 30:01Speaker 2: Um, however, they did say that, you know what, the
- 30:03Speaker 2: Jewel opening gave them confidence that there's a super strong
- 30:07Speaker 2: demand for lottery here in Singapore. So expanding over to
- 30:10Speaker 2: Jurong Point, yeah, you're gonna, you're gonna hit it right there, man.
- 30:13Speaker 2: There's a lot of people living in the West Side,
- 30:15Speaker 2: so I'm sure it's going to be successful.
- 30:18Speaker 2: Um, and just a random, uh, random fact here. Over
- 30:22Speaker 2: at level one of JP 2, Jurong Point Shopping Center,
- 30:26Speaker 2: that's where they'll be located. Sorry, I know, I'm not
- 30:29Speaker 2: very familiar with the place, but yes, on level one.
- 30:31Speaker 2: And sometime in July, that's when it will be open.
- 30:34Speaker 2: So keep a close eye, especially if you live around
- 30:37Speaker 2: the area. If you've got some insider information, you let
- 30:39Speaker 2: us know. Love him. I managed to have the pleasure
- 30:42Speaker 2: of hosting him here in Singapore before he was here
- 30:45Speaker 2: for an event and he even did a couple of
- 30:46Speaker 2: um performances and songs and he's, he's a good looking man.
- 30:51Speaker 2: I have to say he's, he's a good looking man. Hopefully,
- 30:54Speaker 2: he makes it here to Singapore again very soon.
- 30:58Speaker 2: Uh, to be able to do another show or something
- 30:59Speaker 2: because the last time he came in was what, like
- 31:01Speaker 2: at least a year or two ago, I believe, yeah. Anyway,
- 31:05Speaker 2: coming up very, very soon, I believe that Rice Dumpling
- 31:09Speaker 2: festival is actually approaching us very, very soon. Um, this
- 31:14Speaker 2: brings me to a lot of memories that I had
- 31:16Speaker 2: with my, my, uh, my mom, especially my grandma, because
- 31:19Speaker 2: I think the nonia style of bajang is a bit
- 31:22Speaker 2: different from like the Hokkien style, for example, right?
- 31:25Speaker 2: And the flavors are different, the way they have the
- 31:28Speaker 2: ingredients are slightly different as well. So I thought it
- 31:31Speaker 2: was pretty interesting that our friends over at Eight Days
- 31:33Speaker 2: Eats and other, um, other news channels, they've also compiled
- 31:38Speaker 2: some places that you can get rice dumplings for, for
- 31:40Speaker 2: Dragon Boat Festival 2026. I know we always call it
- 31:43Speaker 2: like rice dumpling festival or dumpling festival, right? But in fact,
- 31:47Speaker 2: it's actually Dragon Boat Festival. So whatever you prefer, be
- 31:51Speaker 2: it the Nonia version or the Hokkien version or even
- 31:54Speaker 2: Slightly more experimental, you know, they've got chili crab dumplings, um,
- 31:58Speaker 2: apparently there's durian flavors right now. They are some of
- 32:01Speaker 2: the season's most tempting rice dumplings as listed by CNA
- 32:05Speaker 2: at this point. So, on the 5th day of the
- 32:08Speaker 2: 5th lunar month, in case that is Greek to you,
- 32:12Speaker 2: 19th of June of this year.
- 32:15Speaker 2: Because when I looked at that, I was like, what
- 32:16Speaker 2: on earth? Like when is that? Uh, many of us
- 32:19Speaker 2: are going to just enjoy that rice dumpling, right, to
- 32:21Speaker 2: commemorate Dragon Boat Festival. So, if you want to stick
- 32:23Speaker 2: to tradition, um, Joo Chik Kimchu is still one of
- 32:27Speaker 2: the strongest, I believe. Uh, one of the, my favorite
- 32:30Speaker 2: places to order dinner from is soup restaurant, and apparently
- 32:33Speaker 2: they have a traditional Hokkien style dumpling with salted egg
- 32:36Speaker 2: as well, so that's really good. I never realized that
- 32:39Speaker 2: they had rice dumplings actually. So, usually when I go
- 32:42Speaker 2: to a soup restaurant or order from them is that
- 32:44Speaker 2: Um, is that chicken with the ginger, then you wrap
- 32:47Speaker 2: it in lettuce. Oh, so good. I love that. I
- 32:50Speaker 2: crave that all the time.
- 32:52Speaker 2: Um, also, if you want something slightly different, I think, uh,
- 32:56Speaker 2: restaurants like Manfu Yuan have a bit more experimental type of, uh, flavors. Uh,
- 33:02Speaker 2: the black gold garlic or smoked duck wild rice dumpling,
- 33:06Speaker 2: quite popular last year, I believe. So for the full list,
- 33:09Speaker 2: log on to CNA Lifestyle or CNA luxury to be exact.
- 33:13Speaker 2: I think you can find a full list there in
- 33:14Speaker 2: case you need some ideas or you want to send
- 33:16Speaker 2: something over to your boss or
- 33:18Speaker 2: Maybe for your family, right? If you want to make
- 33:20Speaker 2: that order. So go check it out. Uh, before I
- 33:23Speaker 2: hit play on a Dua Lipa song, everyone's talking about
- 33:26Speaker 2: her solemnization outfit right now because she is like the
- 33:29Speaker 2: epitome of the anti-bride. She did not go for a dress.
- 33:33Speaker 2: She went for a suit with a skirt, so like
- 33:35Speaker 2: a blazer with a skirt and a giant hat, and
- 33:37Speaker 2: it was reminiscent of some um classic references that she had,
- 33:41Speaker 2: very iconic.
- 33:42Speaker 2: But one comment really stood out to me, and I
- 33:44Speaker 2: think this video went quite viral actually. This person said,
- 33:48Speaker 2: this photo of Dua and her husband, they just look
- 33:52Speaker 2: so happy together. I think they only invited 3 friends
- 33:54Speaker 2: to their solemnization, that's what I heard, and their family,
- 33:58Speaker 2: of course, but it goes to show that once you
- 34:00Speaker 2: find
- 34:01Speaker 2: The right person. You don't need like the fanfare. You
- 34:04Speaker 2: don't need the big, the big banquet or the big dress.
- 34:07Speaker 2: It was just them and 3 friends. I'm sure they're
- 34:09Speaker 2: gonna have a party very soon. The rumor is that
- 34:11Speaker 2: it will be in Italy, so like Euro summer vibes, right?
- 34:15Speaker 2: So we'll see where that goes. I'm sure it's Dua Lipa. She,
- 34:18Speaker 2: she knows how to throw a good party. And in fact,
- 34:21Speaker 2: in my next life, I want to be her bestie,
- 34:23Speaker 2: like 100%. She knows how to party. She knows how
- 34:26Speaker 2: to have a good time.
- 34:27Speaker 2: And most of all, I feel like she has that
- 34:30Speaker 2: warmth from her, not that I know her very well,
- 34:32Speaker 2: but just looking at her from um the audience level
- 34:35Speaker 2: when she was on stage, I'm like, yeah, I want
- 34:37Speaker 2: to be this girl's friend for sure.
