Latest / CCC West Covina / Thanksgiving Eve: Magnifying Our Maker
Transcript
- 0:00The Bible tells us that we are to give thanks unto God for His
- 0:04indescribable gift, and the gift that God gives is the gift of
- 0:09eternal life that only comes through Jesus Christ our Lord.
- 0:14As we celebrate the season of Thanksgiving that leads us into
- 0:19the season of Christmas, there is no greater time in all the
- 0:23year to focus in on the greatness and the majesty of
- 0:28Christ. So tonight I'm going to ask you,
- 0:31as Psalm 34 three says, to to magnify the Lord with me that we
- 0:38might exalt his name together on Sunday mornings.
- 0:43We have been on a journey. It's called the Pathway to
- 0:47praise. It's been a encouraging journey.
- 0:53It's been an enlightening journey.
- 0:57It has been and enhancing journey, it's been an enriching
- 1:06journey, but most importantly, it's been an enabling journey.
- 1:14A journey that enables us to be able to understand what it means
- 1:18to give praise and thanks to our God.
- 1:24It's a journey that all Christians are on because those
- 1:28who have been formed or created by me, they will declare my
- 1:35praise, Isaiah 4321 says. And so tonight I want to
- 1:41introduce to you what I'm going to talk about this Sunday by
- 1:46looking at the person of praise. And I want to introduce it to
- 1:51you because it is an immense study.
- 1:56In fact, it is so immense that all throughout eternity you will
- 2:01never fully grasp the personhood of God.
- 2:08How do we know that We know that?
- 2:10Because in Revelation 19, when Jesus Christ comes again, the
- 2:14Bible tells us that He has a name on Him that no one knows
- 2:20except Himself. That that means all the angels
- 2:25in heaven do not know that name, and they are surrounding Him day
- 2:32and night, and so they have no understanding of the
- 2:38comprehensiveness of God. Truly He is inexhaustible.
- 2:46Truly He is incomprehensible. Truly, He is indescribable.
- 2:53In fact, the Bible says in Psalm 145 that His greatness is
- 2:57unsearchable. So no longer how long you try to
- 3:02search and understand his greatness, you will never will.
- 3:07The Bible tells us in Romans Chapter 11 that his judgments
- 3:12are untraceable and that His ways are unfathomable.
- 3:20So no matter how hard you try, no, no matter how long you
- 3:24study, you will never grasp the magnitude of the Master himself.
- 3:32He is infinite, and yet we are called to know him, to
- 3:38understand him, to grasp him, to believe in Him.
- 3:45And so tonight I want to begin to introduce you, to introduce
- 3:49to you the immenseness of God, to help you begin to realize how
- 3:57vast and how great He truly is. I want to read to you the 1st 6
- 4:04verses in Psalm 95, and I want to focus in on just one of those
- 4:10verses. The Bible says these words.
- 4:15It says, Oh, come, let us sing for joy to the Lord.
- 4:19Let us shout joyfully to the rock of our salvation.
- 4:22Let us come before His presence with Thanksgiving.
- 4:25Let us shout joyfully to Him with psalms.
- 4:28For the Lord is a great God, and a great King above all gods, in
- 4:33whose hand are the depths of the earth, the peaks of the
- 4:37mountains are His also the sea is his.
- 4:42For it was he who made it. In his hands formed the dry
- 4:46land. Come, let us worship and bow
- 4:51down, and let us kneel before the Lord our Maker, for He is
- 5:01our God. Come, let us worship and bow
- 5:08down, and let us kneel before the Lord our Maker.
- 5:14If we're going to magnify the name of the Lord, that we might
- 5:18exalt His name together, then we must understand the essence of
- 5:23His name. Remember His His name is always
- 5:27singular, never plural. 800 times in the Old Testament, the
- 5:34Lord has referred to as having a name. 200 times in the New
- 5:39Testament He's referred to as having a name. 1000 times.
- 5:46It is always singular and it's never plural.
- 5:51God doesn't have names, He just has a name and that name is
- 5:58multifaceted. That name is all-encompassing.
- 6:05And so it's imperative that you understand, like Isaiah 9/6 for
- 6:08his name will be called wonderful counsellor, mighty
- 6:14God, the Prince of Peace, the everlasting Father.
- 6:20It doesn't say his names shall be called.
- 6:24No, it says his name shall be called because he only has one
- 6:31name. And that name is so majestic,
- 6:35it's multifaceted. And as you begin to study the
- 6:40name of God, you begin to realize how great it truly is.
- 6:46So in the Bible says let us magnify the name of the Lord.
- 6:52Let's exalt his name. You are elevating the name of
- 6:57Christ and he only has one name. It's it's used 6823 times in the
- 7:04Old Testament. It's commonly called the
- 7:09Tetragrammaton, which is 4 Hebrew consonants that make up
- 7:13the name of God. As Gentiles we add some vowels
- 7:16in there, so we call him Jehovah.
- 7:20That's really not the name, but to make it easy for us to
- 7:24pronounce, we add the fowls to the four Hebrew consonants and
- 7:28say it's Jehovah. Some say it's Yahweh.
- 7:33I think it's best pronounced Yah.
- 7:35They just to understand those four Hebrew consonants, That's
- 7:40how it's best pronounced yave. And that is his name.
- 7:45That's his memorial name. Exodus chapter 3, verse #15.
- 7:49That has to be remembered from generation to generation.
- 7:54And so for 6823 times in the Old Testament, yave is mentioned.
- 8:02And here in Psalm 95, verse #6 he is called Yave Hassinu, the
- 8:10Lord your maker. It's a unique description of who
- 8:17our God is. It's a it's a personal
- 8:21involvement in the life of His people, where He shapes them,
- 8:26where he molds them, where he forms them so that we might be
- 8:31like him. Yave Hassinu is a very intimate
- 8:36name of God on how he is involved in the lives of his
- 8:41people. In fact, the Bible says in Psalm
- 8:45149 verse #1 praise the Lord, sing to the Lord a new song and
- 8:52praise and his praise in the congregation of the godly ones.
- 8:56Let Israel be glad in his maker Hassinu.
- 9:04He is the molder and shaper of Israel.
- 9:08It's best to find in Isaiah chapter 64 verse #8 which says,
- 9:14But now, O Lord, you are our Father, We are the clay, and you
- 9:21are Potter, and all of us are the work of your hand.
- 9:28In other words, God is the Maker, the molder, the work, the
- 9:33Creator of everything in our lives.
- 9:37So the Bible says in Ephesians chapter 2 verse #10 that we are
- 9:41His workmanship, we are His poema.
- 9:45We are His literary masterpiece. And it says these words created
- 9:53in Christ Jesus for good works. In other words, we are such a
- 9:59masterpiece of God that He is shaping and molding every aspect
- 10:04of our lives that we might best represent Him.
- 10:09It's imperative that you understand this because in
- 10:12Revelation 411, the four living creatures and the 24 elders,
- 10:17which is the Church of Jesus Christ, bow down and cast their
- 10:22crowns before the throne. And this is what they say, and
- 10:26this is what you will say for all eternity.
- 10:29Worthy are you, O Lord our God, to receive glory and honor and
- 10:35power. For you created all things, and
- 10:40because of your will, they existed and were created.
- 10:46That is so important to understand this.
- 10:49Listen, you have one opportunity to make a first impression.
- 10:56If this is your first time to Christ Community Church, this is
- 11:00your first impression of the church.
- 11:03This sermon is your first impression of this pastor.
- 11:08When you have a chance to make a first impression, you put your
- 11:12best foot forward. You do the best you possibly
- 11:16can. God had one chance to make a
- 11:20first impression, and when God made his first impression, he
- 11:26made it with a prominent doctrine that would be forever
- 11:31memorialized. The Bible says that in the
- 11:36beginning God created. This is how God introduced
- 11:43himself to the world. It doesn't say in the beginning
- 11:46God loved. That's not how he wanted to be
- 11:49introduced this day. In the beginning, God was
- 11:54merciful. Nope, they say in the beginning
- 11:57God was just. No, God wanted to make a first
- 12:02impression. He wanted to make sure that he
- 12:05made an indelible impression in the hearts and lives of
- 12:09everybody around the world. So he introduced himself one
- 12:15way, as Creator of all things, and He is the Creator of all
- 12:22things, for by Him all things exist.
- 12:26In fact, it says that He was one that He opposed all things that
- 12:30He has created by the word of his power.
- 12:34But listen, because God introduced himself as Creator,
- 12:40he completely destroys man's view of evolution.
- 12:45Because he introduces himself as Creator, he completely destroys
- 12:49all those who believe in abortion.
- 12:51Because God's a creator of life. And if I commit abortion and I
- 12:57kill a child, I am saying that I am God and God is not.
- 13:03If I believe in evolution, I say I believe the way the world came
- 13:07together and God's way is not true.
- 13:11If I have a transgender ideology, I go against what God
- 13:15said when it says have you not heard that he created them male
- 13:21and female from the beginning. You see, God's word is truth.
- 13:27God himself is true. Everything about truth comes
- 13:31from God, and therefore God presented himself as the Creator
- 13:36of the world. That's how he introduced himself
- 13:39to every man. That's why man in Romans one
- 13:42wants to worship the creature rather than the creator, because
- 13:48God is the master Creator. And the psalmist says in Psalm
- 13:5695 verse #6 that this God is called Yave Hassinu.
- 14:04He is the maker and molder and Creator of your life.
- 14:10So when you seek to magnify the name of the Lord, when you seek
- 14:13to exalt His name, you are looking at Him, at Him as the
- 14:17Creator of all things, specifically your life.
- 14:24So how do you do that? This Thanksgiving?
- 14:27I want you to magnify His name. I want you to magnify your
- 14:30Maker. How are you going to magnify
- 14:34your Maker tomorrow? How will you magnify your maker
- 14:38this weekend? How will you magnify your maker
- 14:41for the rest of your life? Number one, you must remember
- 14:47your Maker. Remember your Creator.
- 14:52Ecclesiastes 12 verse #1 Remember your Creator in the
- 14:57days of your youth before the evil days come.
- 15:02Solomon wanted to make sure that his son Raybum understood that
- 15:06while he was young he needed to pay very close attention because
- 15:10the word remember means to pay very close attention so as to
- 15:15act decisively and follow through on your commitment.
- 15:20So he says, remember, pay very close attention to your Creator.
- 15:26Notice he doesn't say pay very close attention to your God.
- 15:31He doesn't say pay very close, close attention to your King or
- 15:35pay very close attention to your Lord.
- 15:39He specifically says pay very close attention to your Creator,
- 15:45to your Maker, to the one who is the designer of everything.
- 15:51Pay very close attention to the master architect of your life,
- 15:56your circumstances, your situations, because the evil
- 16:00days are going to come. And if you don't pay very close
- 16:03attention to the fact that the God you serve is the creator of
- 16:06all things, those evil days will overwhelm you.
- 16:11So if you're going to magnify your maker, you got to remember
- 16:14your maker in the days of your youth.
- 16:19Very, very important. So often we we forget that #2
- 16:27You need to recognize your Creator in the days of your
- 16:34youth. Listen to these words in Isaiah
- 16:38chapter 43. But now Thus says the Lord your
- 16:43Creator, O Jacob, and he who formed you, O Israel, do not
- 16:49fear, for I have redeemed you. I've called you by name, You are
- 16:53mine. When you pass through the
- 16:55waters, I will be with you, and through the rivers they will not
- 16:58overflow you. When you walk through the fire,
- 17:01you will not be scorched, for I am the Lord your God, the Holy
- 17:04One of Israel. Your Savior.
- 17:08God introduces himself to Israel as their Creator.
- 17:13We are so concerned about how we feel when God is only concerned
- 17:20about how we are formed. There is a big difference there,
- 17:25how we are formed in His image. And here God is telling Israel,
- 17:30when you pass through the waters, when you go through the
- 17:32fire, I will be with you. I am your Creator.
- 17:35I'm the one who puts you together.
- 17:37It says later on in verse #7 everyone who is called by my
- 17:41name, and whom I have created for my glory, whom I have
- 17:45formed, even whom I have made. Verse 15.
- 17:49I am the Lord, your holy One, the Creator of Israel, your
- 17:54king. God says to Israel, recognize
- 17:58this, that I am your Creator. I am the one who's making you,
- 18:03molding you, shaping you, putting you into the place you
- 18:08need to be. And if you're going to magnify
- 18:11the name of the Lord, if you're going to exalt the name of the
- 18:13Lord, if you're going to magnify your Maker, you must remember #1
- 18:18your Creator in the days of your youth #2 you must recognize your
- 18:23Creator, and then #3 you must rest in your Creator.
- 18:29Listen to what the Bible says in first Peter chapter 4, verse 19.
- 18:37Therefore, those also who suffer according to the will of God
- 18:43shall entrust their soul to a faithful Creator.
- 18:51If you are suffering according to the will of God, you need to
- 18:56make a deposit. That's what it means to entrust
- 18:59make a deposit and to trust your faithful Creator.
- 19:08In other words, how do you handle suffering?
- 19:12There's only one way, and then it's to recognize your Creator,
- 19:16remember your Creator, and rest in your Creator because He is
- 19:21the one who shapes and molds every situation and circumstance
- 19:26to bring about His perfect purpose for your life.
- 19:30He is the master architect of everything, and therefore you
- 19:35must learn to rest in your Creator.
- 19:40And then #4 it's important that you Revere your Creator.
- 19:48That's Psalm 95, verse #5 The sea is his, for it was he who
- 19:55made it, and his hands form the dry land.
- 19:59Come, let us worship and bow down, and let us kneel before
- 20:06the Lord, our Maker. Revere him, bow before Him.
- 20:12One day every knee will bow, every tongue will confess that
- 20:16Jesus Christ is Lord to the glory of God the Father.
- 20:20And one day when you go to heaven, because you're a
- 20:24believer, you will cast your crowns before him, you will bow
- 20:27before him, and you will say, worthy is the Lord who created
- 20:31all things, and because of him all things exist.
- 20:37That's who he is. Yave Hassinu, the Lord, our
- 20:43Maker. You must understand this about
- 20:45your God or you will have a hard time handling the difficulties
- 20:49that come your way. You're going to have a hard time
- 20:52when situations and circumstances are negative and
- 20:54not positive. You're going to have a hard time
- 20:57when your world comes crumbling around you because God is the
- 21:02master Architect of everything and you must remember that he is
- 21:07Jave Hassinu the Lord your Maker.
- 21:12So you remember your Creator, you recognize your Creator, you
- 21:20in turn rest in your Creator, Revere your Creator, and you
- 21:26know what? You should always run to and
- 21:32with your Creator. Back in the book of Isaiah, the
- 21:3940th chapter, God says this to Israel.
- 21:43To whom then will you liken me that I would be as equal, Says
- 21:47the Holy One. Lift up your eyes on high and
- 21:51see who has created these stars, the one who leads forth their
- 21:58hosts by number. He calls them all by name
- 22:01because of the greatness of His might and the strength of His
- 22:03power. Not one of them is missing.
- 22:05So why do you say, O Jacob and Asserto Israel, my way is hidden
- 22:09from the Lord, and the justice do me escapes and notice of my
- 22:12God. Do you not know?
- 22:14Have you not heard the everlasting Lord, the Lord God,
- 22:18the Lord, the Creator of the ends of the earth, the master
- 22:23designer of everything, does not become where we are tired.
- 22:28His understanding is inscrutable.
- 22:31He gives strength to the weary and to him he lacks might.
- 22:34He increases power and they'll use grow weary and tired and
- 22:39vigorous young men stumble badly, yet those who wait for
- 22:44the Lord will gain new strength, will mount up with wings like
- 22:48eagles. They will run and not get tired.
- 22:52They will walk and not become weary.
- 22:56He says you need to run with your Creator.
- 23:00You need to run toward your Creator, the psalmist said in
- 23:05Psalm 119. I will run the way of all your
- 23:07commandments, and you will enlarge my heart.
- 23:12We need to be running with and to our Creator and then need to
- 23:22rejoice in Your Creator. The Bible says in Psalm 100
- 23:29verse #3 Know that the Lord Himself is God.
- 23:34It is He who has made us and not we ourselves.
- 23:39We are His people in the sheep of His pasture.
- 23:42Therefore enter His gates with Thanksgiving, His courts with
- 23:46praise. Give thanks to Him and bless His
- 23:52name. We are to rejoice in our
- 23:56Creator. And lastly, we need to repent
- 24:01and turn to your Creator. This is so important.
- 24:08Why? Remember Job?
- 24:13Job was a man who was afflicted immensely.
- 24:18He had lost everything. His health was in shambles, and
- 24:24he wanted an audience with God. He wanted to be able to talk
- 24:29with God. And so all throughout the book
- 24:33of Job, he keeps asking for this audience with God, and God says
- 24:38nothing, says nothing. Job has no idea that God offered
- 24:46Job up to Satan. He has no idea.
- 24:51He had no idea till he went to heaven that that happened.
- 24:55We know that's what happened because we read the book, but
- 25:00Job wasn't able to read the book because it wasn't written yet.
- 25:04And yet all this was happening to Job.
- 25:07And finally God gives Job his audience, and God speaks to Job,
- 25:16and God asks Job 77 questions. Ask Job to answer them.
- 25:24Of course, Job cannot answer them.
- 25:29And the neat thing about God is that when God finally spoke, he
- 25:33never said to Job. Job, it's got to be so tough on
- 25:37you. Life must be so hard.
- 25:41You've lost everything. You've lost your family, you've
- 25:44lost your health, you have no friends.
- 25:47Your wife is not a support to you at all.
- 25:50I am so sorry about that. God didn't say that.
- 25:56God didn't say to Job. Boy, I tell you, I am so sorry
- 25:59you lost your family. It's got to be hard when you're
- 26:02a dad and you lose all your kids.
- 26:06God didn't say that either. God never showed pity on Job.
- 26:13God never showed compassion on Job.
- 26:17God never did anything to reach out to Job in his pain.
- 26:23Except give him a revelation of himself.
- 26:32God never explained to Job his problems.
- 26:37He never gave an answer to Job as to why.
- 26:41Because you see, in the divine mind, the why doesn't matter.
- 26:46The Who is all that matters. In the human mind, the why
- 26:51matters. In the human life, how I feel
- 26:56matters. In the divine life, how you feel
- 26:59doesn't matter. But in my life, how I feel does
- 27:04matter. And that's because God is more
- 27:08concerned about perfecting you spiritually than pampering you
- 27:12physically. Big difference.
- 27:17But in our narcissistic society, we have to have somebody
- 27:21minister to us. So what does God do?
- 27:25God speaks to Joe. When God speaks to him, He asks
- 27:30him 7 questions. When he asks them those
- 27:35questions. At the same time he speaks to
- 27:38him about his powerful control over creation.
- 27:43He speaks to him about his providential care for creation,
- 27:49and they speak to him about his preeminent command over
- 27:55creation. When he comes to Job, he focuses
- 28:00on one thing the very beginning. In the beginning, God created.
- 28:09Because when you see God as creator, the why doesn't matter.
- 28:14When you see God as Yahweh Hassinu, your feelings don't
- 28:18matter. When you see Goddess Yave
- 28:22Hassinu, He is the one that matters because He is the maker
- 28:27and designer of everything. You see, our perception of God
- 28:33is so skewed that we forget who He really is.
- 28:39And so God says to Job these words.
- 28:44He says this the Lord said to Job.
- 28:49Will the fault Finder contend with the Almighty?
- 28:54Let him who reproves God answer Job, you're the fault Finder.
- 29:01You a finding fault in your creator.
- 29:04So answer me my questions. To which Job reply was this?
- 29:12Behold, I am insignificant. What can I reply to you?
- 29:22I lay my hand on my mouth once I have spoken and I will not
- 29:28answer even twice, and I will add nothing more.
- 29:35God didn't say. Joe didn't say.
- 29:36He didn't answer my question. I'm asking you why and you're
- 29:40telling me about creation. I'm asking you why my wife
- 29:44doesn't support me and you're answering me with creation.
- 29:47I'm asking you why my friends don't pray with me and you're
- 29:50answering me with creation. So didn't say that because he
- 29:55saw the Lord God as yave Hassinu, the Lord our Maker.
- 30:04And so when you come to Joe 42, he said, I have heard of thee
- 30:09with the hearing of my ear, but now I see you, and I repent in
- 30:21dust and ashes. That's the man who understood
- 30:27Yahweh Hassinu. He says, I repent, I have
- 30:35nothing to say. Now remember, God has not healed
- 30:39him. God has not given him twice as
- 30:42much as what he's had before. That doesn't happen until later
- 30:44in chapter 42. God has done nothing to make him
- 30:48feel better. God has done nothing to make his
- 30:51circumstances better. He's in the same spot he was
- 30:56before God answered him. And what is his response?
- 31:01I've seen, I've heard you, but for the very first time, I see
- 31:07you. I see you as who yave Hassinu,
- 31:12the maker and creator and master architect of everything.
- 31:16I have nothing to say. I repent in dust and ashes.
- 31:22And once he repented and turned to his creator, everything in
- 31:28Job's life turned better. Because God blesses the man who
- 31:37falls before him and recognizes his name.
- 31:44This Thanksgiving. Have you recognized the name of
- 31:47God? Yave Hassinu, the Lord your
- 31:52maker? Let's pray.
- 31:55Lord, we thank you for tonight, the opportunity you give us to
- 31:59spend a few moments in Your word.
- 32:02Our prayer, Lord, is that we would truly see you for who you
- 32:06are. You are a valuable, valuable
- 32:11God. In fact, you're so valuable we
- 32:15can't even put a price tag on you because you are absolutely
- 32:21incredible. Forgive us, Lord, for our
- 32:24misunderstanding of who you are. Forgive us, Lord, for our
- 32:28devaluing you in our eyes. Forgive us Lord for not seeing
- 32:32you as as Java Hassinu, the Lord our Maker.
- 32:38You are forming us, shaping us, molding us because you want to
- 32:43perfect us spiritually. May we see you doing that in our
- 32:48lives this Thanksgiving, that we might magnify the Lord and exalt
- 32:55His name together in Jesus name, Amen.
