• 1:40
Speaker 4: gonna deal in the reclassification of some of the There's
• 1:46
Speaker 4: been eleven high schools that has decided to reclassify and
• 1:53
Speaker 4: after being after being reclassified. And I'm going to be
• 1:58
Speaker 4: open and honest before before we start, because I think
• 2:02
Speaker 4: Hollis is gonna know way more on this than than
• 2:05
Speaker 4: than I do. But I'm gonna have probably stronger opinions
• 2:09
Speaker 4: that may not necessarily align with the facts, possibly, but
• 2:13
Speaker 4: just how I how I think about it and how
• 2:16
Speaker 4: I view it. So I think if we have the
• 2:18
Speaker 4: makings of having a good show and some good discussion.
• 2:22
Speaker 4: So Hollis, well, let me just start out by saying,
• 2:26
Speaker 4: just let me name some of the teams that have reclassified.
• 2:30
Speaker 4: So you have Frankfurt, you have John Marshall, you have
• 2:33
Speaker 4: oak Hill, you have Petersburg, you have Preston, you have Sissonsville,
• 2:37
Speaker 4: you have Spring Valley, Saint Aubans, Saint Mary's, Tyler Consolidated,
• 2:42
  Speaker 4: and Wayne.
• 2:43
Speaker 5: Yeah, and probably before we begin the discussion, we probably
• 2:47
Speaker 5: need to like just give some backstory on kind of
• 2:50
Speaker 5: the classification scenarios. So basically what the w V S
• 2:54
  Speaker 5: S A C.
• 2:54
  Speaker 2: Did.
• 2:55
Speaker 5: They went from a three tier system, so we had
• 2:57
  Speaker 5: a single A, double A, triple A, and now we
• 3:00
Speaker 5: opened up a quada and they moved certain teams based
• 3:05
Speaker 5: off of formula to quaida. So basically, excuse me, not quade,
• 3:09
Speaker 5: but they moved you up or down based off of formula.
• 3:12
Speaker 5: So the formula is such, and I won't get into
• 3:15
Speaker 5: too much detail, but the formula is basically how it's
• 3:19
Speaker 5: comprised of what classification your specific school would be in
• 3:22
Speaker 5: is based off eighty percent of your score is going
• 3:25
Speaker 5: to be based off your enrollment numbers, ten percent of
• 3:28
Speaker 5: your score is going to be based off of your
• 3:30
Speaker 5: proximity to a city of ten thousand or more people,
• 3:33
Speaker 5: and then the last ten percent is based off the
• 3:36
Speaker 5: socio economics of either the school or the county that
• 3:39
Speaker 5: you sit in. So based off those individual factors that
• 3:42
Speaker 5: would determine whether you're going to be in class four A, three,
• 3:46
Speaker 5: two or one A.
• 3:47
Speaker 4: Okay, so let me ask this question because this is
• 3:52
Speaker 4: what I remember of how that how you got the
• 3:57
Speaker 4: triple A, double A, and single. It's at least in
• 4:01
Speaker 4: my mind or in most folks mind that I've talked
• 4:04
Speaker 4: to today about this. As you know, as we talked
• 4:07
Speaker 4: about having as a discussion on the show, everybody was
• 4:11
Speaker 4: pretty much set on the idea of it being based
• 4:16
  Speaker 4: on school enrollment.
• 4:18
Speaker 5: That's from my understanding. The old system, the old metric
• 4:23
Speaker 5: was strictly based off of your school enrollment.
• 4:25
Speaker 4: And so I think how people are when when when
• 4:28
Speaker 4: they're seeing this now like I've seen it, my first
• 4:33
Speaker 4: thought process is enrollment and and and and and all
• 4:38
Speaker 4: the metrics and all of the all of the things
• 4:40
Speaker 4: that you spoke on, like, I don't know, and again
• 4:46
Speaker 4: you know more of.
• 4:47
Speaker 2: This than I do.
• 4:47
Speaker 4: But I'm gonna I'm gonna fight for just the other
• 4:51
Speaker 4: side of the people who like are like me, who
• 4:53
Speaker 4: are like don't like the system as a whole. I
• 4:56
Speaker 4: don't know if the if the metrics that you're putting
• 5:00
  Speaker 4: together necessarily.
• 5:04
  Speaker 2: Can because to.
• 5:06
Speaker 4: Me, I'm looking at the teams who are winning, the
• 5:08
Speaker 4: teams that are that are constantly at the top, and
• 5:13
Speaker 4: to me, that's your that's your that's your four A class. Yeah,
• 5:17
Speaker 4: you know, and then those teams that have been really
• 5:20
Speaker 4: pretty good, maybe made playoffs and all that kind of stuff.
• 5:22
Speaker 4: I think there and there, there's your triple A and
• 5:25
Speaker 4: then there's your double A and single A.
• 5:28
  Speaker 2: I think you you to me, I think it's it's.
• 5:31
Speaker 4: Not as hard or doesn't have to be as complicated
• 5:34
Speaker 4: and confusing to people as I don't care if it's
• 5:38
Speaker 4: if you. If you, if you're in a league and
• 5:40
Speaker 4: you're you're four four, four years into a league, five years,
• 5:44
Speaker 4: whatever that number would be, and all five of those
• 5:48
Speaker 4: years you've been in the top tier of that league.
• 5:52
Speaker 2: You're probably where you need to be.
• 5:55
Speaker 4: If you're at the bottom of that when in one
• 5:57
Speaker 4: or two games, you're probably somewhere that you're But and
• 6:01
Speaker 4: I know that there's going to be teams that have
• 6:03
Speaker 4: to have that's gonna be at the bottom anyway, just
• 6:07
Speaker 4: based on the conference, I.
• 6:09
Speaker 5: Think what you're talking like, the system that you would
• 6:12
Speaker 5: probably like to see implemented is basically what European soccer does.
• 6:17
Speaker 5: So basically what they do they have about I mean,
• 6:19
Speaker 5: they have about eighteen different types of league or levels
• 6:24
Speaker 5: of leagues, and based off you're winning, that determines whether
• 6:28
Speaker 5: you move up or down in that particular league. So
• 6:32
Speaker 5: for example, if you're in the bottom league and you
• 6:35
Speaker 5: win the championship in that bottom league, then you the
• 6:37
Speaker 5: next year you move up. If you win it, you
• 6:40
Speaker 5: move But I think the problem with that is that,
• 6:43
  Speaker 5: again I don't necessarily that's to me, that's not necessarily
• 6:47
Speaker 5: a bad thing, but it almost becomes far as in
• 6:50
Speaker 5: your initial formulation of those different tiers of leagues, it
• 6:57
Speaker 5: becomes almost too subjective, a kind of who goes where.
• 7:00
Speaker 5: And I think that you do need an objective metric
• 7:03
  Speaker 5: to say you're in you're in Triple A, you're in
• 7:05
  Speaker 5: Double A.
• 7:07
Speaker 2: And how we get there. I would agree with you.
• 7:09
Speaker 4: I would agree with you, and again to your point
• 7:12
Speaker 4: what that metric is.
• 7:13
Speaker 5: But let's just let's just look at like Spring Valley.
• 7:16
Speaker 5: Who in Spring Valley was in that they got classified
• 7:19
Speaker 5: as Triple A, excuse me, a four A and now
• 7:22
Speaker 5: they got they did the appeal, and now they're reclassified
• 7:25
Speaker 5: back to three A.
• 7:26
Speaker 4: Okay, and they now the teams that they were playing
• 7:28
Speaker 4: are going to are more than likely.
• 7:31
Speaker 2: The teams that they were competing more like in the
• 7:32
Speaker 2: four and the four. So the formula and here's a
• 7:36
Speaker 2: team who my money who's going to be on them
• 7:38
Speaker 2: to win that base? How could you not?
• 7:41
Speaker 4: I mean, because you're talking about a team that has
• 7:43
Speaker 4: been has had a shot at the state championship.
• 7:46
Speaker 2: For three years, three years in a row. Yeah, and
• 7:50
Speaker 2: they've been consistently good, consistently good.
• 7:53
Speaker 4: And I think when you start looking at those teams
• 7:54
Speaker 4: that have been consistently good, how do you how do
• 7:59
Speaker 4: you keep them in Triple A and there's a quada?
• 8:02
Speaker 4: How do you have them play down and and and
• 8:07
Speaker 4: they've been playing the best teams in the in the.
• 8:12
Speaker 2: In the state. How I mean, there's something wrong with that.
• 8:16
Speaker 4: I mean, and I know that you've got to create
• 8:18
Speaker 4: a way or you want to create a way that
• 8:21
Speaker 4: seems justifiable or makes sense. But I don't know if
• 8:26
  Speaker 4: this is the I don't know. I don't I don't
• 8:29
Speaker 4: know if this is working for me, and it don't.
• 8:32
Speaker 4: And again, they don't care if it works for me
• 8:33
Speaker 4: or not. They're gonna do it. But again, this was
• 8:35
Speaker 4: a This was this passed because of an appeal. They
• 8:40
Speaker 4: there were already people appealing this, already taking this because
• 8:44
Speaker 4: they didn't like it. So so clearly I'm not the
• 8:48
Speaker 4: only one who who doesn't like it.
• 8:50
Speaker 5: Yeah, And I think what mainly what they had a
• 8:52
Speaker 5: problem with was like kind of again the metrics and
• 8:55
Speaker 5: how it will determined what level they would play on it.
• 8:59
Speaker 5: And just and just to give clarity, Saint Auban's Spring Valley,
• 9:03
Speaker 5: John Marshall, Preston County, ok Hill they moved from quade
• 9:07
Speaker 5: back to Triple A, Centonville, Wayne County, Frankwort they dropped
• 9:12
Speaker 5: from Triple A back to double A. Petersburg, Saint Mary
• 9:16
Speaker 5: Tyler consolidated. They moved from double A to single A
• 9:21
Speaker 5: based off the appeal. So those are the schools. Those
• 9:24
Speaker 5: are the eleven schools that have made the appeal and
• 9:27
Speaker 5: reclassified into essentially lower I.
• 9:29
Speaker 4: Thought when I was looking at some of this, I
• 9:31
Speaker 4: thought that all the teams, all the teams went down
• 9:38
Speaker 4: a level. They all went down a level.
• 9:39
Speaker 2: Okay, and and I'm how already moved up. Okay, see
• 9:45
  Speaker 2: what I'm saying.
• 9:46
Speaker 4: So to me, that's like that that doesn't look on
• 9:50
Speaker 4: its face, it doesn't look And.
• 9:51
Speaker 5: Let's and let's talk about why do you think they
• 9:57
Speaker 5: added I mean, what wis?
• 9:58
  Speaker 2: I mean?
• 9:59
Speaker 5: Because from I read they I think what they wanted
• 10:02
Speaker 5: to do is create more parody create more competition, to
• 10:06
Speaker 5: create additional champions because obviously if you have a new
• 10:10
Speaker 5: quait a level you have, you're gonna have champions throughout
• 10:13
Speaker 5: you know, all the sports. So I think the reasoning
• 10:16
Speaker 5: was was to say, hey, it's gonna create more parody
• 10:18
Speaker 5: and go and create more competition. Do you think that's
• 10:21
Speaker 5: Do you buy that? Is that good enough reason?
• 10:23
Speaker 2: What? Well, I'm gonna I'm gonna go to basketball. Who
• 10:26
Speaker 2: that they've had they were the polypus last.
• 10:29
Speaker 4: For Yeah, that's that was kind of where this to me,
• 10:32
  Speaker 4: I think where this came from. I think there's a
• 10:35
Speaker 4: difference though here because a small mistake putting a team
• 10:41
Speaker 4: that might not be able to compete in football is
• 10:46
Speaker 4: different than it is in basketball. How so, I physically
• 10:50
Speaker 4: I think that way, like like you you can't you
• 10:54
  Speaker 4: can't get wrong. You know, a a double A team
• 10:59
Speaker 4: moving up Triple A just because of the metrics fit
• 11:03
Speaker 4: and that team is not.
• 11:05
  Speaker 2: Not physically.
• 11:08
Speaker 4: Able to even understand what what that one level up is,
• 11:13
Speaker 4: And all of a suddenly your first game you're playing
• 11:15
Speaker 4: a championship team that may have been in that level,
• 11:20
Speaker 4: A championship team you're moving up and you weren't even
• 11:23
Speaker 4: a championship team in your division A lower division and
• 11:27
Speaker 4: now you're playing this team.
• 11:29
Speaker 5: Yeah, because I think with basketball, to your point, basketball
• 11:32
Speaker 5: you're one player away. If you got one guy, yes
• 11:34
Speaker 5: you got that can make the difference as opposed to football.
• 11:37
Speaker 5: Even if you have that guy still may not make
• 11:39
Speaker 5: the difference if you don't have the numbers in the physicality.
• 11:42
Speaker 4: Right, And I and and so I think that more
• 11:46
Speaker 4: than just looking at a system a process of justification
• 11:53
Speaker 4: based off of this school or this school, or where
• 11:56
Speaker 4: who they're close to or where they're not close to,
• 11:58
  Speaker 4: what they're not close to, I don't necessarily have I
• 12:03
Speaker 4: don't know if that that means much.
• 12:06
Speaker 5: And even with the metrics, like cause, like I said,
• 12:09
Speaker 5: like and just to repeat it, you got eighty percent
• 12:12
Speaker 5: of you where you determine where you're going to play
• 12:14
Speaker 5: at is based off your enrollment, ten percent based off
• 12:17
Speaker 5: the proximity to a city of ten thousand more people,
• 12:19
Speaker 5: and then the last ten percent is based off socio
• 12:22
Speaker 5: economic status of either the school or county. And that
• 12:25
Speaker 5: that to me, how do you I don't even know
• 12:30
Speaker 5: how you accurately measure all that and then not take
• 12:33
Speaker 5: into account the movement that's going on, right, So if
• 12:37
Speaker 5: you get a plethora of transfers.
• 12:40
Speaker 2: Doesn't that shift the balance of all this anyway? Yeah?
• 12:42
Speaker 2: I think so too.
• 12:44
Speaker 4: And again when you start talking about, you know, the
• 12:48
Speaker 4: economical piece or side to this, well, okay, so if
• 12:55
Speaker 4: you look at Capital, where are you? You know, where
• 12:58
Speaker 4: are you gonna put them? Where are what are they
• 13:01
Speaker 4: close to? You know, what is the social economics of
• 13:04
Speaker 4: their community? That that that you're drawing from. You may
• 13:08
Speaker 4: be drawing from that community, but you're drawing some absolutely
• 13:12
  Speaker 4: fantastic athletes.
• 13:14
Speaker 2: Is there? Is there? What do you what do you
• 13:18
Speaker 2: say to that? What? I mean? What what's that reality
• 13:22
Speaker 2: of where you are?
• 13:24
Speaker 4: And no matter what you're close to, no matter what
• 13:28
Speaker 4: the community has or doesn't have, there are a whole
• 13:31
Speaker 4: host of communities that are small black communities that will
• 13:36
Speaker 4: produce a ton of nice, pretty good athletes that doesn't
• 13:42
Speaker 4: fit in any of these metrics.
• 13:44
Speaker 5: And just for just for comparison, like we look at
• 13:47
Speaker 5: like a Capital High who got a score of fifty
• 13:50
Speaker 5: eight point eight versus Morgantown who got a score of
• 13:54
Speaker 5: ninety four point six, and they both be playing in
• 13:57
Speaker 5: the Quada level. So well it shows you just kind
• 14:01
Speaker 5: of how wide ranging just based off their own metric
• 14:05
Speaker 5: as far as you know the scores within a particular division.
• 14:09
Speaker 4: Okay, so I'm confused on how that score could be
• 14:14
Speaker 4: not generally but just you have that different score, but
• 14:18
Speaker 4: you have them in the same league.
• 14:21
Speaker 2: Yeah, and that's what I'm saying.
• 14:23
Speaker 5: So I think if you look at based off what
• 14:25
Speaker 5: I'm looking at, like I said, the highest school in
• 14:27
Speaker 5: West Virginia as far as the top score would be
• 14:29
Speaker 5: Morgantown at a ninety four point six. You had a
• 14:33
Speaker 5: musclm as a ninety four point three, and then the
• 14:35
Speaker 5: last team in the quade would would be South Charleston,
• 14:40
Speaker 5: which would have a score of fifty four point one.
• 14:44
Speaker 5: So again those are pretty wide ranging scores. Again, how
• 14:47
Speaker 5: these are calculated is still a bit of a mystery
• 14:50
Speaker 5: to me. But just based off the information that they gave,
• 14:52
Speaker 5: this is what we're working with.
• 14:53
Speaker 4: See, this is why, like I don't know if sports
• 14:59
Speaker 4: can can be talked about, figured it out, push out
• 15:07
Speaker 4: a rule regulation in a room of individuals who who
• 15:15
Speaker 4: like the who liked the metrics right, and the metrics
• 15:18
Speaker 4: look good to them. I think you I think you
• 15:20
Speaker 4: need somebody who's you need individuals who've been in the sport,
• 15:25
Speaker 4: because there's because in that no one has taken any account.
• 15:30
Speaker 4: There's no metric for safety. This team hadn't won twenty
• 15:37
Speaker 4: games in twenty years, okay, And but the metrics fit
• 15:42
Speaker 4: and where are they They're they're triple A. They went
• 15:45
Speaker 4: from double A to triple A or or triple AD
• 15:48
Speaker 4: four A And what are you putting those kids in?
• 15:54
  Speaker 2: That's a good point.
• 15:55
Speaker 5: And it's funny you said that about just because I
• 15:58
Speaker 5: was listening to something today and it talked about like baseball,
• 16:01
Speaker 5: and essentially what it's said is that the metric nerds
• 16:07
Speaker 5: have taken the fun out of the game because basically
• 16:11
Speaker 5: everything is based off of kind of what the metrics
• 16:13
Speaker 5: and the numbers say, has opposed to what's good for
• 16:17
Speaker 5: the entertainment value of it. So I think that not
• 16:20
Speaker 5: to compare this to that, but I think what we're
• 16:22
Speaker 5: seeing in some iterations, even at the high school level,
• 16:26
Speaker 5: we're looking at people who are crunching numbers has opposed
• 16:29
Speaker 5: to thinking about like maybe the game holistically, you know
• 16:32
  Speaker 5: what I mean.
• 16:34
Speaker 4: Yes, I do, And I think I think you have
• 16:38
Speaker 4: to kind of be you know, if this was going
• 16:41
Speaker 4: to go on then you should have had coaches.
• 16:45
Speaker 2: In the room to.
• 16:47
Speaker 4: To have conversations and say hey, I like this, No,
• 16:50
  Speaker 4: I don't like this. Yes, it's going to be a
• 16:52
Speaker 4: big discussion, it's going to be in probably some argument
• 16:55
  Speaker 4: going on.
• 16:56
Speaker 2: But you need these people who know the game.
• 17:01
Speaker 4: And I'm not saying that somebody up there doesn't necessarily
• 17:04
  Speaker 4: didn't play high.
• 17:05
Speaker 2: School football or basketball or whatever.
• 17:08
Speaker 4: But I'm not even really sure why we even why
• 17:14
  Speaker 4: we even tried.
• 17:15
  Speaker 2: To go here.
• 17:16
Speaker 5: Okay, but so let me ask you that do you
• 17:18
Speaker 5: think this is even needed? Do you think we need classifications?
• 17:21
Speaker 2: I don't. Do you think we need maybe less more?
• 17:24
Speaker 2: What I would? I think the three.
• 17:26
Speaker 4: I think the three classes are plenty because we're not
• 17:30
  Speaker 4: a for we're not a for a school. We don't
• 17:34
Speaker 4: have a for a school. And if it is, it's
• 17:37
Speaker 4: it's probably not here in the valley.
• 17:39
  Speaker 2: Yeah.
• 17:39
Speaker 5: And again when you take when you take Saint Albust
• 17:43
Speaker 5: Spring Valley, John Marshall, Preston Oak Hill, when you take
• 17:46
Speaker 5: them out of the for the Quada classification, I think
• 17:50
Speaker 5: that brings Quaide to just under Like, I think you
• 17:54
Speaker 5: have about twenty schools in there now, and I think
• 17:56
Speaker 5: what they were talking about. So basically, I don't know
• 18:00
Speaker 5: if it's going to be twelve or sixteen teams make
• 18:02
Speaker 5: the playoffs out of that twenty so basically over half
• 18:06
Speaker 5: the schools in the division, even if it's twelve, are
• 18:08
Speaker 5: going to make the playoffs.
• 18:09
Speaker 4: Well, okay, so let's be honest. Okay, let me be honest. Okay,
• 18:14
Speaker 4: that's is that just money?
• 18:17
  Speaker 2: That's just what I'm saying, that's money.
• 18:20
Speaker 5: As a coach, Like I said, if you're coaching the
• 18:22
Speaker 5: South Charles Capitol, then maybe I got to win four
• 18:25
Speaker 5: games or three games, yes, and I can get it again.
• 18:28
Speaker 2: But but do I really want to go in with
• 18:31
Speaker 2: four games? I don't personally, you know what I'm saying.
• 18:33
  Speaker 4: Like anybody who's been a sports person, I can't help
• 18:40
Speaker 4: but think that you would cringe if you said a
• 18:42
Speaker 4: team that won four games and let's say you played
• 18:47
Speaker 4: twelve and you and you you you won four games
• 18:51
Speaker 4: or and now you and you make the playoffs. I
• 18:55
Speaker 4: don't think any athlete says that they think that's okay.
• 18:59
Speaker 5: Yeah, because now your face with the team is probably
• 19:01
Speaker 5: gone undefeated. Yes, like I said, and if if you
• 19:05
Speaker 5: look at just based off it, we're just looking at
• 19:07
Speaker 5: the numbers like they are. If you're looking at the
• 19:09
Speaker 5: school with a score of like fifty four versus school
• 19:11
Speaker 5: of ninety four, then we're looking at Yeah, when.
• 19:14
Speaker 4: You go when you start setting up the playoffs, one
• 19:18
Speaker 4: usually one is gonna go against the bottom guy.
• 19:21
Speaker 5: And and when that bottom person shouldn't even be there
• 19:23
Speaker 5: maybe in the first place.
• 19:25
  Speaker 2: That's crazy.
• 19:26
Speaker 4: That's that's the fact in the that and that, and
• 19:29
  Speaker 4: that's the risk that you're taking from a from a
• 19:32
Speaker 4: safety standpoint, and it's not worth It's it's just truly
• 19:36
Speaker 4: isn't worth and it's not worth the money. And nor
• 19:40
Speaker 4: is it because what's gonna happen is you're gonna get
• 19:42
Speaker 4: more kids, even more kids interested in transferring because there's
• 19:47
Speaker 4: a whole host of those teams. Yes, because there's gonna
• 19:50
Speaker 4: be a whole host of teams that you're not gonna
• 19:51
Speaker 4: be that that's not gonna be good, that's not gonna
• 19:54
Speaker 4: have a winning record. So now, what what are those
• 19:56
Speaker 4: kids gonna do? What are those parents gonna do? They're
• 19:58
Speaker 4: gonna send those kids to one of those teams that
• 20:01
Speaker 4: are pretty good because they think that they want their
• 20:04
Speaker 4: king to be on that side of it. So I
• 20:07
Speaker 4: mean I think you're adding everything that's already negative to
• 20:11
  Speaker 4: the sport.
• 20:13
Speaker 2: You're adding it and putting more risks forward.
• 20:19
  Speaker 5: Yeah, I mean, I don't know's it's a tricky thing.
• 20:21
Speaker 5: And like I said, I'm not sure that this is
• 20:24
Speaker 5: going to be a good thing. I'm not sure it's
• 20:26
Speaker 5: going to be a bad thing. Like I said, I
• 20:28
Speaker 5: just don't know, particularly when you talk about the quadity,
• 20:31
Speaker 5: I'm not sure. Just I don't know if it creates
• 20:33
Speaker 5: more parody, Like I'm just not really sure about it.
• 20:35
Speaker 4: Well, and again because of the fact that if if
• 20:37
Speaker 4: I remember hearing you right this for this for sure
• 20:42
Speaker 4: this season they're going to be playing the same in
• 20:44
Speaker 4: the same conferences anyway.
• 20:46
Speaker 2: Regardless of being double A, triple A, single A. Also
• 20:49
Speaker 2: the compt I didn't really I didn't know that part. Yeah. See,
• 20:53
Speaker 2: so I understood that are going to maintain. Yes, eventually, yeah,
• 20:58
Speaker 2: they'll change. They'll change it next.
• 21:00
Speaker 5: The year after this, husband, So you can have a
• 21:02
Speaker 5: triple A double A school absolutely in the same.
• 21:05
Speaker 4: And you're playing that's kind of weird if I understood it, right.
• 21:09
Speaker 5: So, but even to that point, so looking at it
• 21:11
Speaker 5: from the other side, if I am like, let's say,
• 21:14
Speaker 5: of Martinsburg. If I am, you know, a higher tier
• 21:17
Speaker 5: school who has a good football program, and then in
• 21:20
Speaker 5: my own conference, let's say I have to play three
• 21:23
Speaker 5: or four double A schools that just happen to be
• 21:25
Speaker 5: in the same conference, then I'm that's going to affect
• 21:28
Speaker 5: my point totals moving forward.
• 21:29
Speaker 2: So I can't afford to drop any of those games.
• 21:31
Speaker 5: No, even if we were once competitors and kind of
• 21:34
Speaker 5: on a football field standpoint, on the same level.
• 21:37
Speaker 2: And so now think about this.
• 21:40
Speaker 4: If you're scheduling yourself and you've got like some some games,
• 21:44
Speaker 4: you're trying to schedule the out of conference games where
• 21:48
  Speaker 4: you're going you're going to You're going to a hopefully
• 21:51
Speaker 4: A two A or somebody below you.
• 21:54
Speaker 2: So you have a chance to win one of those games, Well,
• 21:57
Speaker 2: what do you mean if you're the four A. Yeh,
• 21:59
  Speaker 2: that's but that's the thing.
• 22:00
Speaker 5: You can't afford to do that because I mean, they
• 22:02
Speaker 5: changed the system last year in which the points are
• 22:05
Speaker 5: not going to be as damaging, but still you can't.
• 22:07
Speaker 5: I don't think you would want to afford if you're
• 22:09
Speaker 5: if you're the team that's gonna win only three, four
• 22:11
Speaker 5: or five, maybe five games, you can't afford to have
• 22:14
Speaker 5: those wins strict against lower levels and.
• 22:15
  Speaker 4: Seeing I don't like and and again I don't like
• 22:18
Speaker 4: the idea of score being anywhere in the.
• 22:25
Speaker 2: In the measurements. But you gotta have a metric.
• 22:27
Speaker 5: I know, I get it, but I think that's the tiebreakers.
• 22:30
  Speaker 5: I don't know if that's like a prime.
• 22:32
Speaker 2: Because what that because you're promoting a team.
• 22:34
Speaker 4: You're promoting a team who's sees on this on his
• 22:38
Speaker 4: schedule that we got that particular team and you got
• 22:42
Speaker 4: to run and I'm gonna have to We're gonna have
• 22:43
Speaker 4: to run it up because we know what this team
• 22:46
  Speaker 4: is gonna do.
• 22:47
Speaker 2: And so now you got to run it up.
• 22:48
Speaker 5: But you but that's the nature to be. I don't
• 22:50
Speaker 5: know how you get around that. Like I said, I
• 22:52
Speaker 5: just I don't know. And again, not to criticize anybody,
• 22:57
Speaker 5: I know, these are difficult jobs. You gotta make tough decisions.
• 23:00
Speaker 5: I'm just not sure when we talked about this for
• 23:02
Speaker 5: a thing, I'm not sure it was just well thought out.
• 23:06
Speaker 5: I'm not sure. And again they tried to use the
• 23:08
Speaker 5: metrics other than enrollment. They try to add different things in,
• 23:11
Speaker 5: but was there a.
• 23:12
Speaker 2: Purpose we I mean was there was there an actual purpose.
• 23:15
Speaker 5: I think I think the purpose that they stated was
• 23:17
Speaker 5: like to create competitive balance, create parody, to create more champions,
• 23:21
Speaker 5: to create more playoff teams, so and again and and
• 23:24
Speaker 5: I understand that, but I like, to your point, you
• 23:29
Speaker 5: just you just can't factor in the in the in
• 23:31
Speaker 5: the metric. That can't be like the only thing to consider, right,
• 23:35
Speaker 5: because even the metrics, even though they tried to do
• 23:37
Speaker 5: other things, like I said, they factored in enrollment, economic status,
• 23:41
Speaker 5: they factored in location, but they didn't factor past wins
• 23:45
Speaker 5: and in strength of your previous five years as a
• 23:49
Speaker 5: football program. So it's like, and I think that too.
• 23:51
Speaker 5: I think that's maybe you factor that in as well.
• 23:54
Speaker 2: And and again, And my point then is.
• 24:00
Speaker 4: You gotta gotta you gotta think about not just the
• 24:03
Speaker 4: metrics that you create or that you think work, but
• 24:07
Speaker 4: you got to create a metric that's talking about the
• 24:10
Speaker 4: actual physicality of the game and who's who's going against who.
• 24:14
Speaker 5: Yeah, because the fact of the matter is, like I said,
• 24:17
Speaker 5: if you have a school like Spring Valley, who was
• 24:20
Speaker 5: dominated Triple A, who's been a very very good team
• 24:24
Speaker 5: the last probably ten to fifteen years, who's been consistently
• 24:29
  Speaker 5: in the playoffs.
• 24:29
Speaker 2: Who's been in a championship game after championship game.
• 24:32
  Speaker 5: I mean, they're going to a division where they're gonna
• 24:35
Speaker 5: play like again, no offense to anybody, but they'll play
• 24:38
Speaker 5: schools who have not even dominated in the triple and
• 24:41
  Speaker 5: single A.
• 24:42
Speaker 2: You know what I mean.
• 24:43
Speaker 5: So I said, I don't know if that was considered.
• 24:46
Speaker 5: And like I said, I don't know if this formula
• 24:47
Speaker 5: was well thought out.
• 24:49
Speaker 4: Well, we need to take a we need to take
• 24:52
  Speaker 4: a quick break.
• 24:52
Speaker 2: We'll be right back.

• 26:16
  Speaker 4: we're gonna I'm gonna we're gonna move away a little
• 26:18
Speaker 4: bit from from that battle and maybe more to a
• 26:25
Speaker 4: more pleasant value or topic. Watching the Olympics. I'm not
• 26:34
Speaker 4: sure for you. And I've watched the Olympics. I thoroughly
• 26:39
Speaker 4: enjoy watching the Olympics. I'm not sure if I've ever
• 26:44
Speaker 4: enjoyed the Olympics any more this year than I have
• 26:50
Speaker 4: any other time. And I don't. And and again I
• 26:54
Speaker 4: know we we did some winning and we're gonna talk
• 26:56
Speaker 4: about that our our biggest moments and stuff of what
• 26:58
Speaker 4: we liked. But what was it that made this particular
• 27:04
Speaker 4: Olympic so so exciting, so interesting.
• 27:11
Speaker 2: It's funny said that, because I was thinking that exact
• 27:14
  Speaker 2: same thing.
• 27:14
Speaker 5: This was like out of my ear. And I've watched
• 27:18
Speaker 5: Olympics my whole life. I watched every single Olympics. I've
• 27:21
Speaker 5: never missed an Olympic at least, you know, obviously can't
• 27:24
Speaker 5: watch everything. But this was This Olympics was the funnest,
• 27:29
Speaker 5: most engaging, most spectacular sporting event that I've seen in years.
• 27:33
Speaker 5: And I think maybe it had to do with, uh,
• 27:36
Speaker 5: you know, the previous Olympics you had COVID and it
• 27:39
Speaker 5: just wasn't even mid luster. Yeah, because I mean you're
• 27:42
Speaker 5: talking about track and field events with seventy thousand people
• 27:45
Speaker 5: in the stands, You're talking about the swimming events with
• 27:48
Speaker 5: you know, forty fifty thousand, the gymnastic events filled to capacity,
• 27:52
Speaker 5: you know, and I think they did an excellent job,
• 27:55
Speaker 5: you know, with Snoop Dogg and kind of the celebrity
• 27:58
Speaker 5: around it, and I think you know it and in
• 28:00
Speaker 5: Paris and it just was the vibe of it was
• 28:02
  Speaker 5: just awesome.
• 28:03
Speaker 2: And in addition on it.
• 28:04
Speaker 5: On top of all that, just the athletic performances crazy,
• 28:08
Speaker 5: the various sports from you know, all the way from
• 28:11
Speaker 5: gymnass the track to volleyball to table tennis. It was
• 28:16
Speaker 5: just anything short but spectacular. I thoroughly enjoyed the Olympics.
• 28:20
Speaker 4: I have and I echo your words, and but I
• 28:25
  Speaker 4: still can't. I can't put my finger. I don't care
• 28:30
Speaker 4: my finger in it because like I'm coming home and
• 28:32
  Speaker 4: I'm you know, and I'm like, shoot, I know I
• 28:35
Speaker 4: missed all day, all right, and I'm watching it repeat.
• 28:37
Speaker 2: I'm trying to social media. I'm trying to catch it.
• 28:40
Speaker 4: I'm trying to catch the repeat, you know, whatever's going
• 28:43
Speaker 4: on at night and then whatever is a repeat, because
• 28:47
Speaker 4: I want to see it. And it wasn't like and
• 28:50
Speaker 4: it wasn't even like a situation where I was like thinking,
• 28:53
Speaker 4: I want to see you know, I'll just catch it.
• 28:56
Speaker 2: I can catch a rerun or but I wanted.
• 28:59
Speaker 4: To try to catch it as live as I possibly
• 29:01
Speaker 4: that's catches in it because I don't want anybody to
• 29:04
Speaker 4: have I don't want anybody to say, hey, did you
• 29:06
Speaker 4: see that right, because now I'm like, oh, shoot, I
• 29:08
  Speaker 4: didn't didn't get a chance.
• 29:10
Speaker 2: And then you know, track and field is to me
• 29:16
Speaker 2: one of the greatest.
• 29:19
Speaker 4: Sports that that gets that get it, that gets very
• 29:23
  Speaker 4: little national attention.
• 29:25
Speaker 2: Here they need an event every year. I think so too.
• 29:28
Speaker 5: They needed like they need because I because I've made
• 29:31
Speaker 5: a post like I can't wait for the World Championships,
• 29:33
Speaker 5: I want to watch the Diamond League like I'm all in,
• 29:36
Speaker 5: like it's it's truly like it was truly spectacular.
• 29:39
Speaker 4: And someone bouts like, like she makes you watch gymnastics
• 29:44
Speaker 4: whether or not you you like it, you you know
• 29:48
Speaker 4: or or you were male female, like you're watching it
• 29:52
Speaker 4: because like she's so spectacular. And then and and well,
• 29:57
Speaker 4: let me ask this question, because it's just popped in
• 29:58
Speaker 4: my head. So is is it because they situations like her?
• 30:03
Speaker 4: Some of these folks are going to be gone or
• 30:05
Speaker 4: they may not come back.
• 30:07
  Speaker 2: Did you know?
• 30:07
Speaker 4: Did you did you feel like you knew more people's omics?
• 30:11
Speaker 5: And that's actually that's actually a great point because with
• 30:14
Speaker 5: someone's about she this is probably gonna be her last Olympics.
• 30:17
Speaker 5: With Lebron James, probably Dina Tarassi, this is their last element. Kaylee,
• 30:21
Speaker 5: Kaylee Leadecki. The distance of yeah, this could be her
• 30:26
Speaker 5: last Olympics. So I think that it was a lot
• 30:29
Speaker 5: of build up, and you were familiar with a lot
• 30:31
Speaker 5: of faces. This wasn't like a new crop of athletes
• 30:33
Speaker 5: per se. Even the track and fields of Shakars, the
• 30:37
Speaker 5: brother with the Hunted, we knew all the faces, we
• 30:40
Speaker 5: knew all the names. So maybe that added to this
• 30:43
Speaker 5: the excitement of the events. Yeah, so you you would,
• 30:47
Speaker 5: you would brought up like, what, what were some of
• 30:50
Speaker 5: my highlights of it?
• 30:53
  Speaker 2: My number one?
• 30:56
Speaker 4: My number one was Steph Curry. Steph Curry, No one, Yes,
• 31:00
Speaker 4: because here's the thing. You see him, you see him
• 31:05
Speaker 4: in the NBA. You know he's gonna kill some threes, right,
• 31:10
Speaker 4: But there was something about the closest of that game
• 31:15
Speaker 4: that it made it feel like it was okay. This
• 31:18
Speaker 4: was like maybe just an NBA championship game, and it's
• 31:22
Speaker 4: it's game seven, okay, and and everybody's going out to play.
• 31:28
Speaker 4: And the guy who shows up, the guy who shows up,
• 31:33
Speaker 4: and he shows up not just showing up like a
• 31:36
Speaker 4: layup or steal or you know, which are all good stuff, right,
• 31:41
Speaker 4: but it was his patent threes. And I'm talking about
• 31:44
Speaker 4: d who takes that shot in that critical moment. I mean,
• 31:49
Speaker 4: think about the reality of taking a shot like that
• 31:54
Speaker 4: in the moment where you know it could go either way.
• 31:57
Speaker 4: I mean, that's confidence, man, and you can't I beat that.
• 32:00
  Speaker 4: You know what.
• 32:02
Speaker 5: I was down on basketball this year, like I didn't
• 32:05
Speaker 5: really understand. I just women's and the men's because, like
• 32:09
Speaker 5: I said to me, there was very little parody. Obviously,
• 32:12
Speaker 5: both championship games were good, so once you got to
• 32:15
Speaker 5: the to the one that count it was good. I
• 32:17
Speaker 5: can't then I watched it the whole game. But just
• 32:20
Speaker 5: like I wanted to like see for that sport, I
• 32:22
Speaker 5: want to see the new guys. I want to see
• 32:24
Speaker 5: the new ladies. I want to see the new faces
• 32:27
Speaker 5: in that sport to go against the world.
• 32:29
Speaker 2: Like to watch the women.
• 32:31
Speaker 5: I mean, bro, they ain't lost the game since the
• 32:33
Speaker 5: nineties down there, you know what I mean in international competition.
• 32:37
Speaker 5: So to me, it just wasn't it was just but
• 32:41
Speaker 5: but the last two games, but they're.
• 32:43
Speaker 4: Going against I mean, the same things happening on the
• 32:46
Speaker 4: other side, but nobody else is dominant as us.
• 32:51
Speaker 2: And I will say another thing, You think that okay,
• 32:55
Speaker 2: because the games were close, they ended up becoming the
• 32:57
  Speaker 2: championship games.
• 32:58
Speaker 4: The championship games were there is some move there is
• 33:02
Speaker 4: some movement for other countries to have a shot at us.
• 33:07
Speaker 5: But and I'll say this, and yes, and that's what
• 33:10
Speaker 5: I want. I want the parody. And I think another
• 33:13
Speaker 5: thing that's to me, that's kind of lost its luster
• 33:16
Speaker 5: when you talk about the basketball specifically, because a lot
• 33:20
Speaker 5: of the European players are in the NBA. Yes, so
• 33:24
Speaker 5: we know those guys were back in the day when
• 33:26
Speaker 5: you're looking at Yugoslavia and Serbia, you know these cats,
• 33:29
Speaker 5: you know spread and then you watch it and you
• 33:30
Speaker 5: see this great Cedric Sibonis. You see you see these
• 33:34
  Speaker 5: great that's I say, Cedric h I forget a brother's
• 33:37
Speaker 5: name played for Portland, but you see these great players
• 33:40
Speaker 5: across the water that you never heard of. So there
• 33:43
Speaker 5: was a little mystery with that where now it's kind of.
• 33:46
Speaker 4: Like, I'll give you that because to me, I'm thinking,
• 33:50
Speaker 4: if you're playing in the NBA, yeah, you're good, but then.
• 33:54
Speaker 2: You're good, you're good enough you could you're supposed to
• 33:56
  Speaker 2: compete with them.
• 33:57
Speaker 4: So would you be okay? So, so is it possible
• 34:01
Speaker 4: even could they compete at the collegiate level. So let's
• 34:06
Speaker 4: say if you went collegiate athletes.
• 34:08
Speaker 5: The problem with the collegiate athletes and I like that idea,
• 34:11
Speaker 5: but the only problem is that you don't have the
• 34:13
Speaker 5: guys who are staying three in four years in basketball
• 34:15
Speaker 5: no more so that sounds like a good idea. What
• 34:18
Speaker 5: I what I like to see is common competition be
• 34:21
Speaker 5: you think the competition would be, we would get whooked,
• 34:24
Speaker 5: we wouldn't be bronze medal game.
• 34:27
Speaker 4: And are you saying that because those particular guys who
• 34:30
Speaker 4: that will eventually be to the NBA, those guys are
• 34:33
Speaker 4: going to be those players, because you would have NBA
• 34:36
Speaker 4: players that play for sir By in Spain and France
• 34:38
Speaker 4: and all that like Wimby, right, imagine winby going against.
• 34:43
Speaker 2: If you can't be in the NBA. Are you saying
• 34:45
Speaker 2: like making back for it's no professionals, it's no professionals.
• 34:49
Speaker 5: That to me, that would be funner because we because
• 34:52
Speaker 5: and here's what I'm saying, it would be funner because
• 34:55
Speaker 5: you would have a point of discovery. So we're like
• 34:57
Speaker 5: discovering this person on this international stage. Like the sister
• 35:01
Speaker 5: from that played for France. She was she got cut
• 35:04
  Speaker 5: by the w n B A she goes a year
• 35:05
Speaker 5: from play and now she playing for France and she
• 35:07
Speaker 5: balled out, so we knew her, but we really know her.
• 35:10
Speaker 5: And now that she's playing for France, it's like a
• 35:12
Speaker 5: point of discovery, like, oh, now she's probably get signed
• 35:15
Speaker 5: back to the NBA.
• 35:17
  Speaker 2: So I don't so there's no discovery.
• 35:18
Speaker 5: We know all the guys, and I'm saying, like I'm
• 35:21
Speaker 5: not saying bring it back to college, because i think
• 35:22
Speaker 5: we're past that, but I'm saying, let the young NBA
• 35:25
Speaker 5: guys go, let them get built up.
• 35:27
Speaker 4: But if you go to the college, it's I mean
• 35:31
Speaker 4: because when you when you look at the NBA, like
• 35:34
Speaker 4: the track guys, I guess there's no real professional track.
• 35:38
Speaker 2: Not not because they because they're shotting after colleges. Yes, yes, yes, so.
• 35:46
Speaker 4: I'm thinking like collegiate would be different.
• 35:51
Speaker 5: Yeah, but it's just you don't have you don't have
• 35:53
Speaker 5: enough because basketball guys are spread out now because like
• 35:56
Speaker 5: the talent from high school, you got some that's going
• 35:59
Speaker 5: to college, you got something that's going G League, you
• 36:01
Speaker 5: got some that's going here or something that's going it's
• 36:03
Speaker 5: too spread out now where it's not that concentration of
• 36:06
Speaker 5: talent where we could just pull we know these are
• 36:08
Speaker 5: the best players. I think it's the point like the
• 36:10
Speaker 5: like the basketball tournament that happens in the summer. It's
• 36:13
Speaker 5: fun because a lot of these guys we knew at
• 36:16
Speaker 5: one point, but kind of you know, they they've been
• 36:19
Speaker 5: on their basketball journey somewhere else and some of these
• 36:21
Speaker 5: guys were were just discovering. So it's fun to discover it.
• 36:24
  Speaker 5: So I don't think I think that's been lost with
• 36:27
  Speaker 5: USA basketball.
• 36:28
Speaker 2: So if Steph Curry was anybody other than Steph Curry
• 36:31
Speaker 2: and he hit those threads and was like, who is
• 36:34
Speaker 2: this guy, we were like we were birth a new star.
• 36:36
Speaker 5: But Steph Curry's stardom can't get any more started because
• 36:40
Speaker 5: everybody watched, right, So I think, and that's your number one,
• 36:45
Speaker 5: and I'll give you my number. My number one was
• 36:50
Speaker 5: it's tight too, man. These were all tight. But I
• 36:54
Speaker 5: would say I would have to say China. They won
• 36:57
Speaker 5: eight gold medals in every single they go. They had
• 37:01
Speaker 5: to go meddle all the diving events, so the platform
• 37:05
Speaker 5: the synchronized the springboard men's women's they got golden every
• 37:11
Speaker 5: single diving And to watch these diving events, because I'm
• 37:14
Speaker 5: a that's probably One of my favorite Olympic sports is
• 37:17
  Speaker 5: the diving.
• 37:18
Speaker 2: It was fun, nomenal. You're jumping, like I think we
• 37:22
  Speaker 2: talked about it.
• 37:23
Speaker 5: Twenty meters, thirty miles an hour, going down and twisting
• 37:28
Speaker 5: and turning, no splash, and they purely dominated. And again,
• 37:33
Speaker 5: you know, to my point, I guess I'm contradicting myself
• 37:35
Speaker 5: a little because they seem to dominate this event in
• 37:38
Speaker 5: every Olympics. But again, we don't see that. I don't
• 37:41
Speaker 5: see this but every four years, I don't watch it.
• 37:43
Speaker 5: You know, you might watch it, catch it on ESPNU,
• 37:46
Speaker 5: the collegiate diving, but it's not something you're watching often
• 37:49
Speaker 5: for me to see that just and again, it's so
• 37:54
Speaker 5: phenomenal that they gotta they gotta judge you on the
• 37:57
Speaker 5: most tiki tech things, you know what I mean, quite
• 38:00
Speaker 5: going straight after fifty flips.
• 38:02
Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, and it's splash and it's flash.
• 38:05
Speaker 4: That's the crazy thing to me is like, man, I'm
• 38:08
Speaker 4: probably gonna hit belly up, belly up cannonball, right, yes, because.
• 38:12
Speaker 2: There's just no way.
• 38:14
Speaker 7: So all right, so number two, my number two, no
• 38:18
Speaker 7: allows one hundred meters and and and not just that
• 38:23
  Speaker 7: he woned.
• 38:24
Speaker 4: That was but the fact that they all want yeah,
• 38:29
Speaker 4: they I mean, like you had like eight people within
• 38:32
  Speaker 4: inches of winning.
• 38:34
  Speaker 2: That was crazy.
• 38:35
Speaker 7: And the idea and we've had this conversation that Colonel
• 38:40
Speaker 7: Lewis would have been last in this heat in the
• 38:45
Speaker 7: advancement of the hunter and the advancement of speed is
• 38:49
  Speaker 7: crazy to me.
• 38:52
Speaker 4: And I and I'm not and it really and I
• 38:55
Speaker 4: don't even know necessarily if I'm going to say first, second,
• 38:57
Speaker 4: third or whatever, but I'm just saying that was the
• 39:00
  Speaker 4: one hundred meters.
• 39:01
Speaker 2: To me was like, because that's that's the race. That's
• 39:05
Speaker 2: the race, right, that and the two hundred and four
• 39:07
Speaker 2: hundred are great racists, but the hundreds the fastest man
• 39:10
  Speaker 2: in the world.
• 39:10
Speaker 4: Right, And so you had literally eight people at the
• 39:15
Speaker 4: long at the line that all all beat Carl.
• 39:20
Speaker 5: Lewis, right, And it was like, because we were trying
• 39:24
Speaker 5: to look, I didn't even know who won't, like because
• 39:26
Speaker 5: I'm looking at it and had to kind of look
• 39:29
Speaker 5: at it a few times because I'm not sure, Like
• 39:30
Speaker 5: I'm like, did he winded?
• 39:31
Speaker 2: He winded? They winded? Who won this? Because they were
• 39:34
Speaker 2: literally all right there?
• 39:36
Speaker 5: And like I said, see, that's the type of stuff
• 39:37
Speaker 5: that like we I remember like from this Olympics, the
• 39:40
Speaker 5: fifteen hundred where fighting strapping on one hundred, right, that's
• 39:43
Speaker 5: what I want to see. I mean, it's fun to
• 39:45
Speaker 5: see Hussein boat. It's fun to see him, no doubt,
• 39:49
Speaker 5: but I like this to look like, yeah, you can't help,
• 39:51
Speaker 5: but loved the idea of that, of the of the competition.
• 39:55
Speaker 2: It's like all that.
• 39:56
Speaker 4: And because when I look when you look at the
• 39:58
Speaker 4: still picture that as a dude to if you're looking
• 40:02
Speaker 4: at the picture making right his foot his full over
• 40:05
Speaker 4: the line, I'm like he won, because I say, I'm like,
• 40:08
Speaker 4: he won this race.
• 40:09
Speaker 5: But then then I then I learned it's your Torsell.
• 40:13
Speaker 5: So it's like stuff like that, like when you're discovering
• 40:15
Speaker 5: and we're watching it like we know we watched.
• 40:18
Speaker 2: It, like we know, but we don't don't. Yeah, like
• 40:20
Speaker 2: we had no idea that was That's how they measured that.
• 40:23
  Speaker 2: And that's what I'm saying.
• 40:24
Speaker 5: That's what I love about the I want to see
• 40:26
Speaker 5: because again the thing you love about it, this is
• 40:29
Speaker 5: every four years, so you got nine seconds in this
• 40:34
Speaker 5: maybe maybe at this point maybe so you got nine
• 40:38
Speaker 5: sex it's all you got and this is it And.
• 40:42
Speaker 4: I don't even know, like if people can actually really understand,
• 40:46
Speaker 4: like because a lot of people may not even know
• 40:49
Speaker 4: the name Carl Lewis.
• 40:50
Speaker 2: But this was like the number one one hundred yards sprinter,
• 40:55
Speaker 2: like and and and with Carl Lewis.
• 40:58
Speaker 5: Not only the sprint events, he did the law you
• 41:00
Speaker 5: talking about superior supreme athlete. Yeah, thirty nine whatever it was,
• 41:05
Speaker 5: won the long jump. Yes, yes, you know in his
• 41:08
Speaker 5: last Olympics you're talking about a walk off and a
• 41:11
  Speaker 5: guy and.
• 41:12
Speaker 2: You're talking about he wouldn't he'd have been eighth, eighth
• 41:17
Speaker 2: or ninth. If he was in the group, he would
• 41:20
  Speaker 2: have been ninth.
• 41:22
Speaker 4: And and that's that's the that's the amazing reality of
• 41:26
Speaker 4: how these athletes are so special. And it's and it's
• 41:31
Speaker 4: why I made the comment a week or so ago
• 41:34
Speaker 4: about like these are different athletes than been playing football.
• 41:38
Speaker 2: You know, these are different athletes than just playing basketball.
• 41:42
Speaker 4: These athletes because you don't have basketball, Like you got basketball.
• 41:45
Speaker 2: You can play basketball all the time, right, You're gonna
• 41:48
Speaker 2: go play football all the time. You're training football.
• 41:51
Speaker 4: These you're running one hundred this like you you you
• 41:55
Speaker 4: spend in four years for nine seconds.
• 41:58
Speaker 5: Yeah, man, that's what said. I love it, so all right,
• 42:01
Speaker 5: My number two is I'm hoping I'm gonna get this
• 42:05
Speaker 5: system name right. Her name is Safon Hassan. She is
• 42:09
Speaker 5: a middle distance runner from Dutch Netherland, Netherlands.
• 42:13
Speaker 2: Let me say this.
• 42:15
Speaker 5: She wins the gold medal in the marathon, so that's
• 42:20
Speaker 5: twenty six miles. She wins the bronze medal in the
• 42:24
Speaker 5: ten thousand meter, that's six point one two miles. She
• 42:28
Speaker 5: wants the she wins the bronze medal in the five
• 42:31
Speaker 5: thousand meter, that's a five k. She won three medals,
• 42:36
Speaker 5: three distant races in a two week span. Brouh, that's
• 42:43
Speaker 5: that's that's first of all saying and and and the
• 42:46
Speaker 5: and the marathon was the last race.
• 42:49
Speaker 2: Yeah, see I would have been wanting to put that
• 42:51
Speaker 2: that marathon in front. Can I can?
• 42:55
Speaker 4: I can make it up on the on the back
• 42:57
Speaker 4: end of it. But but yeah, that kind of that
• 43:00
Speaker 4: kind of running at that kind of distance to train,
• 43:06
Speaker 4: I can't even imagine the training. I'm assuming training for
• 43:10
Speaker 4: the for the marathon can't do anything but help you
• 43:15
Speaker 4: with the others, with the other But there is in.
• 43:17
Speaker 2: The shorter distances though, there is more of a quicker.
• 43:22
Speaker 4: Speed it's a quicker speed and maybe even even a
• 43:25
Speaker 4: sprint towards the end.
• 43:26
Speaker 5: Yeah, and you're running these and they're running these marathons
• 43:30
Speaker 5: now sub like three three hours and for the women
• 43:33
Speaker 5: just maybe over three hours. And if you look at particularly,
• 43:37
Speaker 5: like if you're looking at these races, these individuals, these
• 43:40
Speaker 5: aren't trots. No, they got good open up sprint, knees up,
• 43:45
Speaker 5: these are good pace races. So like when I saw that,
• 43:50
Speaker 5: I just couldn't because I'm like, because first of all,
• 43:52
  Speaker 5: it's funny because I'm watching the marathon. I'm a nerd,
• 43:54
Speaker 5: Like I watched the marathons too. I'm watching the marathon.
• 43:57
Speaker 5: I was like, she had the blue and the orange
• 43:59
Speaker 5: unifor It's like, is that the same person that was
• 44:02
Speaker 5: in the now I was like, that can't be the
• 44:05
Speaker 5: same person that you ain't doing that. You can't run
• 44:07
Speaker 5: off three of those. And then it come to find
• 44:09
Speaker 5: out she won three medals three distant races, and I
• 44:12
Speaker 5: just think that's just a feat. To me, that's just
• 44:15
Speaker 5: almost incomprehensible, and with that amount of pressure and that
• 44:19
Speaker 5: amount of time to be able to do that.
• 44:22
Speaker 4: And I want to touch that first challenge that you
• 44:26
Speaker 4: put on her when you start talking when you start
• 44:30
Speaker 4: talking about being the pressure of running a race, that distance,
• 44:42
Speaker 4: the confidence in which you have to have to know
• 44:46
Speaker 4: that you can you can finish it?
• 44:48
Speaker 5: Is that confidence or delusion? Because I know I can't.
• 44:55
Speaker 5: You know, I may be able to do like the
• 44:57
Speaker 5: one of them, but you can't have it. I can't
• 44:59
Speaker 5: do them in a two week period and you training
• 45:04
Speaker 5: on top of it. You still got a little workout
• 45:05
  Speaker 5: in between.
• 45:06
Speaker 2: All mard what must that training? What must her training be? Like?
• 45:11
  Speaker 4: That's what I don't I would like, I don't know
• 45:14
Speaker 4: because you know, you know, you guys when we were
• 45:17
Speaker 4: doing the you know the four the four four fours,
• 45:20
Speaker 4: you know, training for football, right, Like, so you running
• 45:25
Speaker 4: quarter two hundred and a one hundred and you're and
• 45:29
  Speaker 4: you've been over.
• 45:30
Speaker 2: At the end of that, but you're ready for the season. Yeah,
• 45:35
Speaker 2: how is she? How is she? Like?
• 45:39
Speaker 4: She's running like Olympic times, Olympic times in training.
• 45:47
Speaker 2: At some point, she's gotta she's got to actually run
• 45:49
Speaker 2: that marathon. She got to test it, she's got to
• 45:51
Speaker 2: test it, so she she already now knows that she
• 45:54
Speaker 2: can get there. And the crazy thing about that is, gosh,
• 45:58
Speaker 2: what all did you put in before the first time.
• 46:01
Speaker 2: You said, well, you know what, I'm gonna test this
• 46:03
  Speaker 2: one today.
• 46:03
Speaker 5: And I like as you said that, because we're not
• 46:05
Speaker 5: taught again, we're not talking about somebody who's trying out
• 46:08
Speaker 5: there doing all this in two weeks. I think we
• 46:11
Speaker 5: probably could do that, or somebody could probably do that.
• 46:14
Speaker 5: But you're running Olympic times, you're running, you're competing and
• 46:18
Speaker 5: these and what people don't understand. I think people got
• 46:21
Speaker 5: a better picture of now when you have these distance
• 46:24
Speaker 5: and middle distance races. These are highly competitive races. These
• 46:28
Speaker 5: aren't something where you just kind of tried. Now you
• 46:30
Speaker 5: just kind of coast your way into getting the gap
• 46:33
Speaker 5: between you and other competitors.
• 46:34
Speaker 4: If if there's any question about that, watch when they
• 46:38
Speaker 4: come across the finish Watch when they come what do
• 46:40
  Speaker 4: they do?
• 46:41
  Speaker 3: Man?
• 46:41
Speaker 2: They fall out like they are about to die.
• 46:44
Speaker 4: And so to me, I'm looking at that and I
• 46:47
Speaker 4: might thinking, man, the work that they must have put
• 46:51
Speaker 4: in to do that, and then knowing that that's how
• 46:55
Speaker 4: you're gonna feel at the end, like you know you're
• 46:58
Speaker 4: gonna be laid out on the track.
• 47:01
Speaker 5: I feel like you were about to die, right And
• 47:03
  Speaker 5: it's like I said, when I when I saw that,
• 47:05
Speaker 5: like I said, and for whatever reason, I watched all
• 47:07
Speaker 5: three of her race. I watched the ten to five
• 47:10
Speaker 5: and I watched the marathon, and I was just amazed
• 47:13
Speaker 5: by that was she the.
• 47:14
Speaker 2: One that came back? Was that the was that did
• 47:17
Speaker 2: she come back? She was trailing for a minute and
• 47:20
Speaker 2: then again she that was her. She in the five
• 47:23
  Speaker 2: thousand minutes.
• 47:24
Speaker 5: She didn't get the gold, but she was kind of
• 47:26
Speaker 5: she was in the back and then she she pulled
• 47:28
Speaker 5: up and then she ended up getting the bronze medal
• 47:30
Speaker 5: in that, like I said, even at like I said,
• 47:32
Speaker 5: you got three medals and an Olympic in three distance races.
• 47:37
  Speaker 2: It was phenomenal.
• 47:38
Speaker 4: All right, well I'm gonna jump on the third one. Okay,
• 47:41
Speaker 4: Simoon Bobs, Okay, you can you can't, you can't. You
• 47:46
Speaker 4: can't argue with that. She is the most gold medals I.
• 47:51
Speaker 5: Think of anybody, any gymnasts, gymnastymnas.
• 47:57
Speaker 4: Okay, Now I'm watching her because I remember her, you know,
• 48:02
Speaker 4: I you know, I remember seeing her before and I
• 48:04
Speaker 4: remember how good she was. That drew me to the
• 48:08
Speaker 4: gymnastics piece and Hollis Man like her routines were like
• 48:14
Speaker 4: like crazy and you know, and like a couple of
• 48:16
Speaker 4: times she stepped off the map, which I thought was
• 48:18
Speaker 4: was kind of crazy because everything else she did.
• 48:22
Speaker 2: Was like like locked in, like her landings and stuff
• 48:26
Speaker 2: like that. So it was it was kind of crazy
• 48:28
Speaker 2: to me. But it's still still if.
• 48:31
Speaker 4: I'm not mistaken, that she had the most she's had ten,
• 48:34
Speaker 4: ten total, Lisa, and she and she was banged up
• 48:38
  Speaker 4: this Olympics.
• 48:39
Speaker 2: She was hurt. Yes, if you watch, if you she
• 48:41
  Speaker 2: was wrapped up.
• 48:41
Speaker 4: She was pretty much hurt this whole Olympics, and still
• 48:44
Speaker 4: pulled it out and talked and they talked too about her,
• 48:47
Speaker 4: you know with emotionally, you know, she had she had
• 48:51
Speaker 4: some things and yet you can come out there and
• 48:56
Speaker 4: you can, like I watch her like when.
• 48:57
Speaker 2: They when they have the camera on her, it looks
• 49:00
Speaker 2: like she's not happy that the camera's on her. It's
• 49:03
Speaker 2: kind of like, you know, it comes with it, and
• 49:05
Speaker 2: she's kind of just living in it.
• 49:07
Speaker 4: But she never really showed me, like, you know, like
• 49:11
Speaker 4: any kind of like arrogance about her her work now right,
• 49:16
Speaker 4: you know, And she just seemed to be all part team,
• 49:20
  Speaker 4: you know everything.
• 49:21
Speaker 2: That's the part I like because I think she willed
• 49:24
  Speaker 2: that team.
• 49:25
Speaker 5: I think, you know what I'm saying, I think really
• 49:27
Speaker 5: like if you look at it, because if you look
• 49:30
Speaker 5: if you paid attention to gymnastics, it was it was
• 49:33
Speaker 5: a struggle for just everybody who was competing. I think
• 49:35
Speaker 5: they were all gassed out after team competition, once they
• 49:38
Speaker 5: got to individuals, everybody was banged up, everybody's It was
• 49:41
Speaker 5: a lot of pressure on everybody. I'm saying all countries,
• 49:45
Speaker 5: and I think Samono's bios she really willed that team
• 49:48
Speaker 5: to to you know, ascend to where they got to.
• 49:52
Speaker 5: So I think she had that added pressure on her
• 49:54
Speaker 5: where she was really the superstar because if you look
• 49:56
Speaker 5: at it, honestly, she was a superstar of the Olympics,
• 50:00
Speaker 5: the one everybody everybody knew, everybody was coming to. You
• 50:03
Speaker 5: had the Tom Brady's, all the supercars, all the snoops,
• 50:06
Speaker 5: you had everybody coming to see her her, you know
• 50:09
Speaker 5: what I mean. So it was a lot of pressure,
• 50:10
Speaker 5: even in spite of all the physical elements that.
• 50:13
Speaker 2: She was facing. Yeah, and and to to be able
• 50:16
Speaker 2: to be that leader of a team, yeah, you.
• 50:21
Speaker 4: Know like I felt like she Yeah, I think I
• 50:23
Speaker 4: felt like she she made everybody comfortable. Yes, I think
• 50:30
Speaker 4: she made everybody comfortable and and and and believing that
• 50:33
Speaker 4: they can do whatever is out there that you're supposed
• 50:36
Speaker 4: to do, whatever the whatever the the if it was
• 50:40
Speaker 4: it was like she was that she was that oversight
• 50:44
Speaker 4: of that comfort. Just go out there and just do
• 50:46
Speaker 4: your best and you're gonna be fine. I said, that's
• 50:48
Speaker 4: a really really good point because.
• 50:49
Speaker 2: She had to overcome that with you know, stepping off
• 50:52
Speaker 2: the mat and that kind of thing. She had all that,
• 50:55
Speaker 2: all that she had to deal with that, and she did,
• 50:58
  Speaker 2: and she did.
• 50:59
Speaker 5: Like I said, it was phenomenal. But my number three
• 51:02
Speaker 5: is Sidney McLaughlin and I hope my getting a sister's
• 51:05
Speaker 5: name right. She's four hundred. Like I've never seen anybody
• 51:11
Speaker 5: just totally dominate like this. I mean, and again we
• 51:16
Speaker 5: like I said mentioned before, like I like to see
• 51:18
Speaker 5: the competition, I like to see the type the tight racist,
• 51:22
Speaker 5: but to have pure domination and an event that I
• 51:27
Speaker 5: think with in my eyes and I don't have experience,
• 51:31
Speaker 5: but I would say it's probably one of the hardest
• 51:33
Speaker 5: track events as far as the sprint division is concerned.
• 51:37
Speaker 5: She has the four hundred meter hurdles. She ran it
• 51:40
Speaker 5: in fifty one and then she comes back on the
• 51:44
Speaker 5: four by four. Her split of her four hundred was
• 51:48
Speaker 5: forty seven seconds, and they got I think that was
• 51:53
Speaker 5: the Olympic in the world record that they broke into
• 51:55
Speaker 5: four x four of the women's Yes. So I just
• 51:58
Speaker 5: couldn't believe at the e in which she made that look,
• 52:02
Speaker 5: particularly like I said, that four hundred meter hurdle, she
• 52:05
Speaker 5: made it looks like child's play, like she was just running.
• 52:09
Speaker 4: Wasn't that didn't they say that she ran She ran
• 52:12
Speaker 4: the hurdles as fast as people run the just the
• 52:15
Speaker 4: straight four hundred, just.
• 52:16
Speaker 5: To straight four hundred, Like I said, it was fifty
• 52:17
Speaker 5: one seconds. It was literally as fast as some good
• 52:22
Speaker 5: runners are running up real good real good runners are
• 52:24
Speaker 5: running at four hundred.
• 52:25
Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean she and I think maybe.
• 52:28
Speaker 5: She kind of probably, I mean she probably could have
• 52:30
Speaker 5: knocked the second or two off of it, not to
• 52:32
Speaker 5: say she was jogging, but it was such a distance
• 52:35
Speaker 5: by like those last couple of hurdles, that it wasn't
• 52:37
Speaker 5: even a competition at that point. And like I said,
• 52:39
  Speaker 5: I like this. I know I contradicted myself. I like
• 52:41
Speaker 5: to see the titans and the closeness of the races.
• 52:44
Speaker 5: But I think when you're watching somebody truly special, truly gifted,
• 52:48
Speaker 5: I think she is an absolute superstar. I like everything
• 52:52
Speaker 5: she stands for, and just to see that level of
• 52:56
Speaker 5: domination was just insanity to me.
• 52:59
Speaker 4: Is there now that the Olympics are gone, right, is
• 53:04
Speaker 4: there anything to actually now replace it? Like, can you
• 53:08
Speaker 4: can you just make a switch to football season now
• 53:12
Speaker 4: and be comfortable in the idea of watching football or
• 53:18
Speaker 4: is it something that you feel like you're gonna miss
• 53:20
Speaker 4: because to me, I'm not a huge sports guy now,
• 53:26
Speaker 4: you know, even though that's this is the whole show,
• 53:29
  Speaker 4: but the Olympics.
• 53:31
Speaker 2: But the Olympics, I'm gonna miss them, you know, I'm
• 53:37
Speaker 2: let me say it this way. I'm missing them already.
• 53:39
Speaker 5: I definitely do. I think to me, like, like, I'm
• 53:42
  Speaker 5: a sports guy. I like watching sports, but I don't
• 53:45
Speaker 5: watch a bunch of TV anymore, and that sports is
• 53:48
Speaker 5: the one thing I watch on TV. So to have
• 53:50
Speaker 5: just a variety of that high level sports that you
• 53:53
Speaker 5: can recognize a name or to or get to know
• 53:55
Speaker 5: a nambor too, is definitely gonna be missed. But I
• 53:58
Speaker 5: think going into football season, like even like what we
• 54:01
Speaker 5: previously talked about the classification switches here locally in West Virginia.
• 54:06
Speaker 2: But I'm excited to see all that. See.
• 54:07
Speaker 4: That's the frustrating piece to me is we we we
• 54:10
Speaker 4: we sports, and I don't know if it's just here,
• 54:15
Speaker 4: but sports, we're getting these things that that are messing
• 54:20
Speaker 4: up the game. To me, I feel like I feel
• 54:22
Speaker 4: like they get in the way of the actual game.
• 54:25
Speaker 4: Somebody somebody with a suit and tie or dressed shirt
• 54:29
Speaker 4: on calculator, you know, yeah, and and they're sitting there
• 54:32
Speaker 4: and they're and and and they're motivating or trying to
• 54:37
Speaker 4: motivate what should be happening in the game around the game.
• 54:40
Speaker 2: And that's got me. That's that that's turned me off
• 54:44
Speaker 2: so much. And I understand what you're saying.
• 54:46
Speaker 5: And I think, to me, the most agreedious, egregious of
• 54:50
Speaker 5: culprits of doing that is the NFL.
• 54:53
  Speaker 2: Right.
• 54:53
Speaker 5: I think they tinker almost to a fault. And I
• 54:57
Speaker 5: think that's kind of gotten in the way of or
• 55:00
Speaker 5: sort of trickle down to you know, when we're talking
• 55:03
Speaker 5: about college and everything else like that. I think there
• 55:06
Speaker 5: is too much tinkering that happens with athletics, particularly football.
• 55:11
Speaker 5: It's unnecessary tinkering, But I am excited to see kind
• 55:15
Speaker 5: of what's gonna be the fallout of I think even
• 55:18
Speaker 5: last year when you're looking at all the transfers and
• 55:20
Speaker 5: everything we talked about then it was it was pretty
• 55:22
Speaker 5: excited to see kind of how this school is going
• 55:25
Speaker 5: to match up against this school and what's what's what's
• 55:27
Speaker 5: this player going to be like, and how this is
• 55:29
Speaker 5: going to go. So I think, you know, just kind
• 55:32
Speaker 5: of the newness that is the ever changing landscape of
• 55:36
Speaker 5: football where there's college high schol to the NFL.
• 55:39
Speaker 2: It's going to be exciting to watch this ship.
• 55:41
Speaker 4: Yeah, and I'm gonna give a little shout out Dwayne
• 55:44
Speaker 4: Harris hoping that his knee as well and that he
• 55:48
Speaker 4: can get back get back to his ability, because I really,
• 55:53
  Speaker 4: really really.
• 55:54
  Speaker 2: Think that's that.
• 55:56
  Speaker 4: I think he's a he's an athlete that that I
• 55:59
Speaker 4: would love to see, you know, you to get better.
• 56:03
Speaker 2: And we got a bunch of Kerry Martin's at NC State,
• 56:08
Speaker 2: So it's gonna be fun. I posted I posted on
• 56:10
Speaker 2: Facebook the other day that.
• 56:13
Speaker 4: Bosley, somebody, I'm thinking you you might want to turn
• 56:16
Speaker 4: the television on and watch it.
• 56:19
Speaker 2: You may be watching somebody who's gonna be playing on Sunday.
• 56:22
Speaker 4: I think you are, you know, and it's interesting to me,
• 56:26
Speaker 4: and this is maybe another show we are actually because
• 56:31
Speaker 4: of social media. I think we are turning out more
• 56:35
Speaker 4: athletes because and the reason why I say social media
• 56:37
Speaker 4: because I don't think we do it well enough in
• 56:39
  Speaker 4: the paper.
• 56:40
Speaker 2: I don't think we've ever done it. You know, we
• 56:42
Speaker 2: just have never promoted these athletes. And he doesn't have
• 56:44
Speaker 2: to reach. Yeah, it just doesn't have to reach anymore.
• 56:46
Speaker 4: So now that it's on social media, we're we're people
• 56:50
Speaker 4: are hearing about these young athletes and I'm just hoping
• 56:54
Speaker 4: that that drives them. And like I said, man, I
• 56:57
Speaker 4: I really I think he's got some serious opportunity to
• 57:00
  Speaker 4: be on Sunday.
• 57:02
Speaker 2: Yeah. Man, I think we're gonna have a couple. And
• 57:04
  Speaker 2: that's like I said.
• 57:04
Speaker 5: Even watching the Kid for the Bears, yeah, you know
• 57:09
Speaker 5: they play this Shepherd, I think to me, that's just awesome.
• 57:12
Speaker 5: Got a quarterback from the state that's playing yeah NFL. Yeah,
• 57:16
Speaker 5: that's you know, and that's it, and that is it.
• 57:19
Speaker 4: That is a position to really, I mean, you can't
• 57:23
Speaker 4: fake you can't fake quarterback, you know. So all right,
• 57:28
Speaker 4: well we'll give another shout out to Frank Walker. We
• 57:32
Speaker 4: appreciate your services and support and Hollis you got anything
• 57:36
Speaker 4: to close us out with?
• 57:37

Speaker 5: looking forward to this next football season coming up.
