- 0:00In this lessons episode, discover the power of relentless commitment and disciplined habits in
- 0:04achieving long-term success. Learn why dedicating a decade to your craft transforms persistence into
- 0:09mastery and understand how the same mindset applied in fitness fuels breakthrough performance in
- 0:14business and life.
- 0:15So the two things, these sort of points that I want to touch on like one thing, I've always said
- 0:30this and it's a version of what you just said, but like do do anything for 10 years and to your
- 0:36peers and your friend you're going to be considered like quite successful at that thing. Like I don't
- 0:40care if it's like installing windows in a new developed like a new house or you're starting a podcast
- 0:44so you're posting on social like do it for 10 years and look at the results and you're probably
- 0:48going to be monetizing that you're going to be making some decent money you're going to turn into
- 0:51like a side hustle or a full-time living like you just have to do it for 10 years. Like obviously you
- 0:56have to iterate and maybe test and keep trying different things but I mean like if you're moving in
- 1:00one direction and you have one goal for 10 years it's very hard to fail at that thing and you'll
- 1:05probably be known for being some sort of specialist at that particular thing. Well this is what I think.
- 1:09I think the majority of people don't even try. So when someone actually tries more than once
- 1:18your just pure number is game your your potential and possibility for getting what that is
- 1:26you know kind of goes up already by a landslide right. That's the bottom line. Most people
- 1:31most people don't even try. Most people give up after they don't get somewhere. They're they're
- 1:36not relentless in their pursuit there but you have to be relentless. You have to be obsessive.
- 1:42Like another quality like words you were saying well how is it that you you know you said or
- 1:48the two things you're like well how is it that you have that mindset to even say well why not.
- 1:53There is like an and I said to you well you have to have a level of entitlement you also have to
- 1:57have a level of obsessiveness. You have to be obsessively wanting something and then the day if you
- 2:03want to lose weight and you you will lose weight if you want it bad enough right. So this idea of
- 2:10like well I tried this and it didn't work and I did that well you know what I don't buy that.
- 2:16I think whenever and I and I use myself as an example when I'm not really that interested in
- 2:21something or not that passionate about something or I don't really care enough yeah like my results
- 2:26are kind of like and then I move on to something but when I am super obsessed about something and
- 2:31super like into it there's like nothing that will like stop me. I become super tunnel vision.
- 2:38You have to be super tunnel vision to be successful. You asked me before we started this podcast
- 2:43you're like well how did you get Tony Robbins and you know how I got Tony Robbins because I asked
- 2:48constantly I had never gave up and when one person didn't couldn't kind of help me or he said
- 2:56no and one way or didn't respond I figured out another person who may know who can have another angle
- 3:01where I can get in through you know the back door and that back door slammed on my face so then I
- 3:06like dug a tunnel underneath and you know there was a you know I couldn't get past that so then I
- 3:11went to the other side and I like there's like you don't you you have to be constantly thinking
- 3:18of ways to get to what your your goal is and be relentlessly and be obsessive and that's how
- 3:25you do it and because like I said most people don't try that hard most people don't even attempt
- 3:32or they give up after like they have one failure you know then that's why it doesn't happen so the
- 3:39people who try over and over again they're the ones who are going to have the success because it's
- 3:43a tradition at the end of the day right like I'm not giving up so the retrition I'm going to win
- 3:48before you because you gave up after like 20 minutes I love um you know there's so many it's
- 3:55interesting there's so many there's so many business and life lessons that can be derived from some
- 4:00from like from personal health well-being like attainment to fitness goals like team sports like
- 4:06there's I love like the I love like pulling over like all the lessons that you learn from if
- 4:10somebody successful in the gym and the mindset that it takes to be successful in the gym towards
- 4:14their gym goals and then you you take that person and if you put them in a business scenario
- 4:19it's like the exact same mindset and and I I love that I also like talking to like the strategy
- 4:25that all these like you know football coaches deploy like for their teams that are so similar to how
- 4:30you lead people in a in a workplace and stuff like that but just just if you have thoughts on that
- 4:35that would be cool too because I'm so glad that you said that because it's interesting because
- 4:40you know I was talking about how people compartmentalized right so many people say to me
- 4:45well she's a fitness person she's a fitness girl how would she be able to do that I mean like
- 4:50how can she do strategy for this fortune 100 company when she does like squats and lunges with
- 4:56you know Becky on the side like there's like there's like a disconnect right but this is the
- 5:02interesting thing fitness to me was my foundation because what it taught me first of people don't
- 5:07even realize that I have I went to school and all the other stuff and all the things I've done
- 5:11but they are myopic and they're thinking and think because I did a squat and I like aerobics
- 5:17or step step step step class that your mind doesn't have the ability to kind of grow beyond that
- 5:22but fitness to me was such a foundation because it teaches taught me and it teaches people who do
- 5:30it seriously goal setting discipline disciplines a major thing that is overlooked right it takes a
- 5:38lot of discipline to go at something over and over again it takes a lot of discipline to stay on
- 5:46track and not veer off track because something is more shiny over there it takes so much discipline
- 5:54to actually pursue constantly obsessively so you learn the discipline you learn the goal setting
- 6:01you learn how when you see progression or you see yourself progressing that like that like a
- 6:11positive mental confidence grows right it also takes a lot of mental toughness to go somewhere
- 6:20over and over again every single day when you are tired or when you are you know working so hard
- 6:27where you're like not sleeping and like go and and like keep working out at the gym over and over again
- 6:33those things are getting up early getting up early eating eating well like those are that's like
- 6:40such discipline that is such like it is it's all the things that are really important and
- 6:46transferable skills that you can utilize in business and truthfully are the most important
- 6:53most important values and most important skill sets and fundamental values that you that that
- 7:00kind of that kind of make people successful in their personal like the professional like in
- 7:06everywhere else so when people think oh just because she's a fitness girl she's not able to do this
- 7:11or that I will go into that scenario and I'll say okay well let's let's see what happens
- 7:18and I will out work and out win most of those people almost every single time because I've already
- 7:26have that foundation from what fitness gave me and it is the same which that's why when you're saying
- 7:33coaches who are team coaches for football or whatever they are they are throwing so much at these
- 7:40athletes constantly like for like for human performance like not giving up when you are tired
- 7:47and when you want to like when you are exhausted or when you're sick or when you're just don't
- 7:52want to do it anymore or the relentlessness that comes from all that is such an important quality
- 7:59and that's why when you when people if you actually look at a lot of the top CEOs or top entrepreneurs
- 8:06in the world I'm not saying it's obviously like everybody but I'm saying if you look at like the
- 8:13a lot of them really have a very they hold in on their morning routine their fitness routine
- 8:20they are doing things to keep them on point because they know if they do that it will help them
- 8:26with everything else in their life now okay so so our goal is to talk about personal brand
- 8:33of partners if you haven't done any of that shit yet but that's okay because this is this is good too
- 8:36so it's it's beer I mean what a name is that okay a beard off a little bit we could do yeah
- 8:40I don't give a shit we could do we could do more if you do more of these doesn't matter to me like fair
- 8:44it's all good come back and talk on branding another time we could totally do that um okay but
- 8:50okay so you're you're you're sort of dovetailing to a really good point so like habits so this is
- 8:55all about habits now your podcast is called habits and an hustle which obviously habits is an
- 9:01important part of who you are but everybody I don't think so now we've established like there's
- 9:07the habits will lead to success patterns and and we'll all lead to success and processes will
- 9:13lead to success but people obviously have a super hard time committing to them because people
- 9:21are usually very hedonistic they they don't love getting it like I'm going to take a gym example
- 9:26that you're going to appreciate in Canada in the winter going to the gym before work and you're
- 9:30shoveling your driveway at like 4 30 am so you can drive to like the good life at like 5 to 6 so
- 9:36you can like make it to the opposite and like you know this shit and it's a it's not it's not fun
- 9:41right so that's a certain type of that's a certain type of habit that gets ingrained because you
- 9:46have that goal that you want to achieve it's a it's a fitness school now how do you and I don't
- 9:52even know the answer because I used to do that I used to do that and I don't know how I got to
- 9:56the point where that was so important to me that I would do something like that but how do you
- 10:03how do you how do you architect your mind so that these that the end goal the mission is so important
- 10:09that you can build these habits because I feel like the goal to
- 10:14creating and maintaining successful habits is to have that end goal that's so important
- 10:19that that you need to do the activities no matter what to get to that end result
- 10:23well you know what it's called it's called commitment right and you gave a really good example
- 10:28of like Toronto or Canada when you have the wake up early and like and like basically get the snow
- 10:36in the ice off of your car and drive to the gym and all that stuff people don't even understand
- 10:42like what kind of level of commitment that has that that entails right versus like living in LA
- 10:48and just like going outside and just doing your thing right but it was because of those like
- 10:53harsh harsher uh realities that kind of even made made the level of commitment that much more
- 11:01strong but I think at the like I think it's it's commitment so the question I guess my question to
- 11:07you is are you asking me how people could kind of like can they can they can tweak their mindset
- 11:17to have a commitment or where does my commitment come from or how what is the question
- 11:24the the question is the question is well actually this is a chicken and egg scenario
- 11:30so say you have say you have a goal is it a matter of tweaking your mindset or perhaps better
- 11:36identifying your goals so that you can have commitment well okay this is what I think first of all
- 11:42I think people have to focus have behalf you could have to have you have to be committed
- 11:50to whatever your goal is now first thing is you've got to figure out what that goal what what that
- 11:57goal is to have commitment to I think if you have too many goals or they're too lofty
- 12:04then it doesn't even it doesn't matter it's it's it's becomes lost already you have to pick one
- 12:10thing and commit to it and then you don't change the goal you change the plan to get to that goal
- 12:18that's the first thing you change the plan you don't change the goal and again if you have if
- 12:24you if you are obsessively committed and passionate about reaching whatever that is you will reach
- 12:31it if you have that commitment the the point the problem is most people don't really have that
- 12:38commitment they think they do but at the end of the day people don't want to work that hard right
- 12:43they don't want to work that hard like there's a whole thing is like you cannot be don't be upset
- 12:49about the results you didn't get from the from the work you didn't do right that's basically what
- 12:55it is don't be upset by the result you did not get from the from the work you did not do if you put
- 13:01the work in and you have that commitment you will get to that goal it is as simple as that I am
- 13:07that I am that convinced and you have to have that let that mindset when going into something you know
- 13:14like if if you if you say to me uh while in Toronto or wherever you have to you know the whole the
- 13:24car it's cold and you've got to get into the car right but like if I want it bad enough that's
- 13:30what I'm going to have to do now this is the this is the thing I was going to say to you
- 13:35I think a lot of it is the stop is in the start right people don't know how to begin they may
- 13:42they may want a goal they may even have commitment to the goal but then they can be kind of
- 13:48not knowing they're overwhelmed by the beginning so that's why I think it's so important for someone
- 13:54to have a have one thing that they're focused on and something small that they could achieve
- 13:59because if they achieve that they get not only gained the confidence but if they see that if they
- 14:06actually notice a change or they notice something that's working for them that is a lot of motivation
- 14:13for them to continue so it's like validation people need to see the validation
- 14:19to and I think it depends on who the person is and what the goal is like if I if my if my goal is you
- 14:26know what I want to marry Brad Pitt okay that's that's not okay it's okay I can try all I want
- 14:37what's not going to happen right I think like you need to have something you have to be realistic as
- 14:42well so I think there has to be a piece of it where you're like what is realistic for me
- 14:48what can I actually achieve that's realistic that I can go for right now so you know
- 14:56looking at yourself assessing and having self-awareness knowing what you're good at knowing what you're
- 15:01bad at and leaning into the good stuff now again what is your goal is your goal weight loss is your
- 15:08goal to raise a hundred million dollars depending on what it is so I always tell people have a goal
- 15:16that a that is realistic and then if you're not good at something what I like to do is find people
- 15:24that kind of help balance my out my weaknesses so having things aren't done in like a silo right
- 15:32like for success it's not like everything undo it I'm doing on my own no like I have I think I hope
- 15:39to be and I try to be more all the time but I try to be somewhat self-aware and like okay you know
- 15:43what I'm really good in these areas but I'm really really bad in this and this and this and this and
- 15:49this and this and this and this whoo and my toes whatever so who and what how can I balance this
- 15:56shit out a little bit right and so you have to be really good at being okay with not being
- 16:02great at everything some people want to believe they're great at everything and then it really
- 16:06slows them down but if you can have that like self-assessment with yourself and then kind of
- 16:12fill in the fill in the pockets of of where you're kind of weak then you can actually
- 16:19actually become successful at whatever that is thanks for tuning in if you found this valuable
