- 0:00Track the Galaxy's Most Unpredictable Start Trick podcast. Let it play out, play
- 0:12out? Yeah yeah, yeah, how we do it? I would like
- 0:25the podcast to start now, I start right now. Oh lord, we'll
- 0:33talk about all of that, all the things. Yes, we're finally back
- 0:39after two weeks, and we have strange new world to talk about today.
- 0:42You guys saw the reactions from Dan and Daniel. You did not see the
- 0:45reactions from me, and I did not make one, nor did I watch
- 0:50either of their reactions. So this is going to be I have so many
- 0:53feels over this week. Yep. I Hey, I did my homework in
- 0:59terms of watching it and then thinking about it, but I didn't record my
- 1:02thoughts. So yeah, I read. I read the book. I just
- 1:04didn't do the book. Yeah, exactly, I read the book. I'm
- 1:07prepared to talk about it. I just really look really really really really yeah.
- 1:11Yeah yeah. So happy Father's Days, guys, thank you, thank
- 1:22you fathers the studio again. Yes, I'm for Father's Day finally. So
- 1:30I think, what is that makeover show trading spaces, chatting spaces? The
- 1:38chat has done the chatting spaces, and so I did not I did not
- 1:42make over the studio. But you may you may notice that my head's a
- 1:47little bigger. Um, that's just everybody tell me you may notice my head's
- 1:52a little bigger. That is everybody telling me how much they love the show
- 1:55my head. No, but um it's it's uh, my head's not big.
- 2:00The camera is closer to me. Yes, yes, yeah, and
- 2:05uh that is courtesy of the Gentry two thousand uh trek cast mounting system that
- 2:13arrived in Yes, and your big head. Gentry has been mounting, wanting
- 2:21to mount my big head for years, and his dreams finally came true.
- 2:27Oh man, he was gonna wait until Vegas because you know, what happens
- 2:30in Vegas stays in Vegas. But he just couldn't. He couldn't contain himself
- 2:35any longer. And uh but who could blame him? Yeah, yes,
- 2:40everybody wants yeah. Yeah. Um, so I'll take a picture from the
- 2:46outside of the shuttle. I'll put on an EV suit and oh yeah,
- 2:53full arm with articulating arm that rotates and everything. It's the you know what
- 2:57it is, it's the Canada arm that used to be on the Space Show.
- 3:00He sent me one. I mounted it to the side of the Old
- 3:04Town country. Nice. You know, honestly, we should like make something
- 3:09like that to attatch to the outside of your vand and just take a picture
- 3:15of it. It's totally fake, but take a picture of it and show
- 3:16it to your wife and say, the guys a new setup for this,
- 3:20and just film her reaction. Yeah, I'll tell you. Yeah, no,
- 3:23no, no, honey, it's it's a it's an articulated arm.
- 3:25We're gonna attach it to the side of your van. It's yeah, it's
- 3:29permanent, so you'll just have to kind of look around it when you're driving.
- 3:31It's okay, though, Yeah we're dirty today. Hey, we don't
- 3:38have a big me to talk about, right, so might get it back.
- 3:46You might get it back till the stories. Oh h oh yeah,
- 3:53Well, I mean I guess that's a transition. Should we just get to
- 3:54the it's the news, go for it, because we're all about smooth transitions,
- 4:03so smooth, you know, smooth, smooth, smooth is butter So
- 4:08our first news story comes to us. Um. Apparently there was the Indie
- 4:12Wire Awards last night, UM, and they did an interview with Patrick Stewart
- 4:18and LeVar Burton. It was a pretty long interview. I will have links
- 4:23to it in the show notes, But basically what they said is they were
- 4:28very excited for Picard season three. They were really happy at how it turned
- 4:31out. But at the very end there was an interesting little nugget where Patrick
- 4:38Stewart basically says, I probably shouldn't be saying this, but you know,
- 4:41what are they going to do? Fire me? At this point, we
- 4:45are considering a Picard TNG movie based off of after Piccard season three, h
- 4:56so a t movie. I love this time twelve twenty six, I love
- 5:00it. Yeah, he's reading that it's customed that I drink a beer while
- 5:04listening to truck Cast thanks to the live show. I'm now drinking at eight
- 5:08in the morning. Hey afternoon somewhere. That's right. That should be our
- 5:14new tagline. Truck Cast will make you to drink exactly, truck Cast.
- 5:18All of us will be an AA at some point. What's really interesting about
- 5:25this interview is both LaVar And and Patrick say that season three of Piccard was
- 5:31great, perfect send off. Let's do it again and see if we can
- 5:34do it more perfect send off. Let's redo the send off. I mean
- 5:41it's only done it twice, right, they did it in the actual series.
- 5:45Now they did it in the new series. No, in another show.
- 5:47No, they did it three times, three times. Yeah, this
- 5:49is third because the last movie, the last movie, everybody, you know,
- 5:55yeah, separate ways. Yeah yeah, this this is going to be
- 5:59like the Kiss Final Tour. It's just again, they're always gonna be saying
- 6:03goodbye. Yeah yeah yeah. So what do you guys think about that?
- 6:08If they did a movie, I mean, it'd be cool. I'm excited.
- 6:13I mean, it was a great series, right, The last last
- 6:15season anyway was fantastic. I mean they hit all the notes. Right.
- 6:18There is there really anything that you can point at and say for sure that
- 6:21they did that wrong and it was big enough to really matter. Like,
- 6:27I don't know, I think everything came off just great. I mean I
- 6:30want to see them continue in that timeline more so than anything else. Now,
- 6:34if this TNG movie spin off thing to make it like a big you
- 6:40know, number four, or if you want to call it that happens,
- 6:44then great, make that lead into something else though, that contentues along that
- 6:48timeline. Don't just keep rehashing the goodbye for the fifteenth time, you know.
- 6:55That's my take on Yeah, I don't know. If I want to
- 6:57put card season four as much as I loved season three, yeah I would.
- 7:01I would like to see, uh some of those characters show up from
- 7:06time to time in other twenty fifth century Star Trek. Yeah, yeah,
- 7:12exactly. I don't think I want to see they can't get the band back
- 7:17together again. Yeah. Well, I mean they can, um, but
- 7:21again, the only thing they can do at this point, honestly, is
- 7:26less than what they just did. Yeah, that's the issue. That's why
- 7:30it has to be something different, correct. I think it needs to be
- 7:34a lead if they do it, and I'm fine with him doing it.
- 7:36I'm fine with them saying, hey, we want to do this and have
- 7:40a final like a like a movie type thing. Make that though, be
- 7:44tied into the lead into something more and then it's worth doing. Right.
- 7:48Um, but even you could argue that's what the season three was. It
- 7:54was the lead into legacy. Yeah, exactly. That Again, I mean,
- 7:58only the only thing they can do it this when to take it down.
- 8:01Yeah, but I mean if you think back to if you think back
- 8:03to post TNG Burman era Star Trek and what a big deal it was when
- 8:13other characters showed up. They never had the whole They never had the whole
- 8:16crew of the Enterprise, right, But you know when Barkley and Deanna showed
- 8:22up on Voyager, it was a big deal. Yeah, you know when
- 8:26Riker turned out to be Thomas Riker, but you know when Riker showed up
- 8:30on Deep Space nine, it was a big deal. Yeah. When Q
- 8:33showed up on Deep Space Sign, it was a big deal. I know
- 8:35she's a secondary character, but you know when Loasana Troy showed up on Deep
- 8:39Space Sign, it was a big deal. They can keep doing those things.
- 8:43They don't have to get the whole crew to get back together for something,
- 8:48but to have you wrestling when they have a run in, it's a
- 8:52big deal. Yeah. So they need to have a run in. They
- 8:54need to have you know, just Jordian data, you know, run in.
- 8:58They grab a garbage in a steel chair that's right, smash seven over
- 9:03the head with it, and then you know them top of the turnbuckle and
- 9:07then there and then they run out and you know, cool, who's shown
- 9:11up next week? Oh it's Quark off the top rope. There you go,
- 9:13there you go. Yeah, this is one of the few times that
- 9:18I'm agreeing one hundred percent with Daniel's wrestling to start. Yeah, the joke
- 9:26in wrestling is behind the curtain is every possible wrestler, it's just whether or
- 9:31not they come out. So in the try, in the transporter pod or
- 9:35transporter room is every possible star trick character, it's whether or not they show
- 9:39up. But I mean we're we're literally salivating right now over the over the
- 9:46idea of Boiler and Mariner up. Yeah, crossovers, yeah, yes,
- 9:50yes, yeah, it's when you watch Tis absolutely, yeah, exactly.
- 9:56It's it's when you watch a spider Man movie. Oh my gosh, the
- 10:00there's iron Man. Or it's when you watch an ant Man movie and oh
- 10:01my gosh, there's King. Or it's when you watch Loki and holy crap,
- 10:07that's you know, whoever the hell showed up in Loki. Um,
- 10:09it's like all of that, right, So, yeah, when Laurel and
- 10:11Hardy met Frankenstein, exactly you laugh, but yeah, true, yeah,
- 10:18exactly. Yeah. You know, George George Reeves Superman was on I Love
- 10:20Lucy. Yeah, yeah, yeah, absolutely, all right. Our next
- 10:26news story comes to us from Fansided, and um, you know, the
- 10:33Emmy considerations are now happening. This doesn't mean that they're nominated for Emmy's,
- 10:37but this is the studios and production companies putting out who they would like to
- 10:41see get nominated in hopes to get them nominated. So Paramount is trying to
- 10:48get at least twelve actors from Star Trek Picard Season three to be nominated for
- 10:52Emmy's. Basically everyone who was on the screen, from Michelle Thorpes for her
- 10:58portrayal for Lauren Laren and Daniel Davis as Professor Morarity. They're being or trying
- 11:05to get nominated, as is Todd Stashwick Captain Liam, to which he has
- 11:11said, no kidding, you did not say that. But basically everyone you
- 11:18know, data or anyone you can think of, they're trying to get him
- 11:22nominated. They'll probably get some, we'll see. But okay, I don't
- 11:28really care about awards shows. I don't care who gets nominated for what.
- 11:31Yes, of course, Darryl Mike, Michael Keaton showing up in the flash.
- 11:35We'll talk about that today these two scene and I have not It's when
- 11:37I want to go see, but I just haven't had time. So yeah,
- 11:39maybe I will this afternoon. I have no idea. I've got a
- 11:41little bit of things playing for Father's Day, but not a lot um,
- 11:45so yeah, it would be. I don't know. I don't think.
- 11:48I don't think the wife and kids are really that keen on seeing it.
- 11:50Um, they think they watched the trailer And are you kidding me? Daniel?
- 11:56Do you not know how this works? No, on Mother's Day it's
- 12:00whatever the mom wants to do, and everybody goes and do it. And
- 12:01on Father's Day it's whatever the mother wants and everybody goes and do it.
- 12:05Do it? Does it with the father? Right? That's or it's Father's
- 12:09Day and you say, I'm going to the movies. This is what I'm
- 12:11going to see. I would love if you guys came with me and then
- 12:13you just go get in the car. Indeed, I wouldn't be able to
- 12:18get back in the house. This is how it works. Okay, I'm
- 12:22just doing two hours later, you will have seen the flash. This is
- 12:26true. This is true. I mean we watched the trailer, and both
- 12:28both of my girls enjoy Marvel. They really enjoy all the Marvel movies more
- 12:33so than the DC. They don't like the DC. They're like me,
- 12:35I watched the DC and it's like, this is a train wreck. Um,
- 12:37there's only a few things that I pick out that I enjoyed the DC
- 12:39side, but I always enjoy the Marvel stuff. And they watched that trailer
- 12:43and they thought, good lord, this looks worse than No Way Home.
- 12:46And that's one movie that they watched them thought was a train wreck. Like
- 12:50me, there's too much stuff everywhere Tooby McGuire, you know, and both
- 12:56all three Spider Man's and just just kept piling. But uh, let me
- 13:00stud okay, movie, but still I kind of feel the same way.
- 13:03The Flash looks like a mess to me. We'll talk about that later,
- 13:05okay, all right, and then our next news story comes to us from
- 13:09Star Trek dot com. Um, this was announced on Captain pocard Day,
- 13:13which was Thursday, I believe. Was it Thursday or was it Friday?
- 13:16Kevinccard Day? I don't know, s I completely forget now it was Friday.
- 13:22It was Friday, Friday? Yuh yeah, So actual, how do
- 13:26you know when Captain pccard day is? Does I feel it in my heart?
- 13:31Okay? All right, I mean if you're on social media then maybe
- 13:33you know, Yeah, that's it. I'm sorry, Apparently I forgot the
- 13:37trim meeting of Captain Pard. That's right, that's maybe the logic bestow upon
- 13:43you in the Diplomacy Rain. Oh lord. Basically, they have announced a
- 13:50bunch of different box sets for Piccard season three. There's gonna be steel books,
- 13:54there's gonna be just buying the DVDs or blue rays. There's gonna be
- 14:00a gigantic box set with all of TN and the movies and Picard just everything
- 14:07they can throw out there, all put together with some some extra mementos.
- 14:15And that has not been announced at the price point for that one, So
- 14:18I'm curious about that one. Yeah. Um, it seems like they're trying
- 14:24to throw like every appearance of Captain McCard into one box set just about.
- 14:31And I'm wondering if the Deep Space nine Pilot emissary is in that set.
- 14:39That does not is not listed on there, so I don't think so.
- 14:45Well, that's a giant that's a giant misstep on their on their behalf if
- 14:50they did not do that. It is a fifty four Blu ray disc set.
- 14:58It's ridiculous, that's crazy. Yeah, the rumors it's going to be
- 15:03at about two hundred and fifty bucks roughly for everything. I mean, yeah,
- 15:09yeah, yeah, I like Star Trek at all. But uh,
- 15:15yeah I bought I bought, you know, all of the Burman era Trek
- 15:20as it came out on DVD for one hundred bucks a season twenty years ago.
- 15:26Um, I'm not doing it again, yeah yeah, yeah, And
- 15:33uh the only thing I want from that box set is the deck of cards
- 15:35because I collect deck of cards? Oh do you? Yeah? Oh I
- 15:39didn't know that. Yeah, right, learn something every day. Yeah.
- 15:45Now I'm gonna now I'm gonna find a cool deck of cards for Dan.
- 15:48Nice. Yeah, exactly. Yeah, I'm excited to go to Vegas to
- 15:50get some deck of cards, all right, cool? Yeah. And then
- 15:56our last news story because there's enough on it allegedly, so I have to
- 16:00bring it up. This is coming to us from Giant freaking Robots, so
- 16:04you know, you know it exclusive. Pedro Pascal has been offered the role
- 16:14of the villain in Paddington three. Oh lord, yeah, baby, Patting,
- 16:22I can tell you right now it's not going to happen unless they cast
- 16:25a kid to be a sidekick so he can say that marmalade. Yeah,
- 16:30I mean every show or a movie he does. There's like there's always a
- 16:33kid. So allegedly Paddington three is gonna start shooting in July. Sure,
- 16:42yeah, I know Dan is so excited. Yeah, but that's it.
- 16:48That that was just it. I just had to bring that up because I
- 16:49saw it so ts Yeah, sharing the Paddington love indeed, indeed, but
- 17:00it's our news stories, all right, cool, awesome, Well should we
- 17:03get to the main topic. Let's get to the main topic. And now
- 17:11I'm done talking because you just yeah, it's what happened. It cuts us
- 17:19off. It's fine. I just get just like I love giving you shit
- 17:23about it. It's fine. I know it's a mechanic. It's not you
- 17:26doing it, but it's maybe it is, and maybe it is. Yeah,
- 17:29I manually turn it back on just to mess I talk when I'm not
- 17:34supposed to talk. Just talking when he's not supposed to talk. It's only
- 17:38because we love you, little Ocho, little Ocho. See, I've got
- 17:45the log line from episode two to one, The Broken Circle. Oh yeah,
- 17:48there was some star trek on this week. Yeah yeah, so this
- 17:53is the season premiere. A distress call from Lieutenant Ulian our Nunion sing compel
- 18:00Spot to disobey orders and take the USS Enterprise and its crew into disputed space,
- 18:06risking renewed hostiles with the kling Ends in a bid to aid their shipmates.
- 18:11This was written by the show runner and main producers Henry Alonzo Meyer and
- 18:18Akiva Goldsman. So, as I saw pointed out somewhere, this episode is
- 18:26peak what they want. Huh yeah, yeah, So Chad, what was
- 18:38your thoughts since you didn't do your home rate, let's start with you.
- 18:41Yeah, I mean I didn't watch your guys's reactions. Um I should haven't.
- 18:45Sorry, I didn't record my own reaction. I have no idea what
- 18:48your guys's thoughts are, and I can tell by had there for a moment
- 18:52that maybe you're as thrilled with it as I am. Look, I'm not
- 18:55gonna lie. When I watched this episode, I was smiling the entire time.
- 19:00Pable, You're right, Well, see there's a weird thing about that.
- 19:03You say you wish Spock and chapolood Bone already, but there's this weird
- 19:06tension between her and Maunbana the entire time to their together, the music they're
- 19:10playing, the way they're looking at each other. It was just odd.
- 19:15No, I know, I don't mean like there was a thing there.
- 19:19I just mean it was kind of strange. The way they did it was
- 19:22odd to me. It felt weird anyway. Overall, I had a smile
- 19:26on my face the entire episode. I enjoyed it. It was fun ingest
- 19:33it was. Did it make sense is my main question, And only a
- 19:37few parts of it really made a whole lot of sense to me. The
- 19:41rest of it was kind of odd. I mean, if you take you
- 19:44have to kind of suspend certain things for a moment um to really think about
- 19:48this. But like for Spock for instance, and his entire demeanor and what
- 19:52he did and how he went about doing it. On one hand, you
- 19:56can say it's out of character, but it wasn't out of character because we
- 20:00have to remember that this is Spock before we see him in the original series,
- 20:07right, Hak is older by the time we see him in the original
- 20:11series. Spok is purged all emotion by the time we see him in the
- 20:14original series. Um, he's just faking it right now. Yeah, he's
- 20:18trying to figure it out. Actually, that's what he's doing, right,
- 20:22And he's allowing his human side to do more things as he's figuring it out,
- 20:26and so I kind of just take that with a grain of salt.
- 20:30I don't like the new engineer. I don't like her either. I don't
- 20:34horrible choice. Yeah, yeah, I look at her and I can't help
- 20:40but think of Miracle Max's wife from The Princess Bride. Yea and chocolate.
- 20:45Chocolate couting makes it go down easier. That's that's what I Yeah, she
- 20:51sounds like I hear in my head. Yeah, well it's her, that's
- 20:53the same actor. Yeah, I know it is. I'm all aware.
- 20:56I know that's what I'm saying. I mean, it's it's like, if
- 20:59you're gonna do that character's an engineer, don't show up from the never ending
- 21:03story. Yeah, like I hope with a different voice or so, you
- 21:06know, do do something right. I mean, we have plenty of British
- 21:07actors who have an American accents. We have plenty of American actors of British
- 21:11acts. She's a great actress, like she's one Oscars, but great actress.
- 21:17What she does, I don't think it fits into this. No,
- 21:22I won't even go so far as saying that. For the way they've written
- 21:26and directed her. It doesn't fit. Yeah, she's capable of doing a
- 21:30lot. She's capable of not coming across as a weird little troll of an
- 21:33engineer. See, she should be a ferengie honestly with that voice. Well,
- 21:40to me, it seems like they're making her the fairy godmother of the
- 21:42enterprise. She imaginally fixed how they got away with stealing the enterprise. Huh,
- 21:48And I think that's what they're gonna have her do. More or less,
- 21:52she's a new duct tape. Yeah, yes, she's gonna be the
- 21:57Enterprise's fairy godmother. So I know. Chad didn't watch my reaction, Mum.
- 22:08My reaction was about fifteen seconds of me just staring at the ceiling trying
- 22:14to think of something to say, and then just saying, I don't know,
- 22:17I'll watch it again. I'll talk about it on the show when I
- 22:21was editing. When I was editing your reaction, Dan, Yeah, I
- 22:25felt the deep dad disappointment, Like you're not angry at your kid, You're
- 22:30just disappointing. I'm very disappointed. I'm very disappointed. There's a couple of
- 22:36things. We'll start with the most obvious. Okay, Um, stop stealing
- 22:41the ship. Yeah, stop, okay, just stop. It's it's it's
- 22:49been done before, it's played out, it's old. It doesn't make any
- 22:56sense. Um, it doesn't matter what your reasoning is. If you steal
- 23:04the ship, you go to jail. That's how it works. Just just
- 23:11imagine a naval captain who's just like you know what, Um, I'm gonna
- 23:18steal this battleship. Yeah, and I'm gonna take it into battle and possibly,
- 23:22you know, I'm gonna take it into international waters and I'm gonna interact
- 23:26with our enemies and I don't know, maybe I'm gonna start a war.
- 23:30But I have a good reason. I know the admiral told me, no,
- 23:34don't do it. But I had a good reason. Then Hey,
- 23:36it worked out in the end, so you know, I get to keep
- 23:38my command, I get to keep my my my freedom. No, that's
- 23:42ridiculous. That is ridiculous. Spots should be in jail right now. He
- 23:49should be right next to Una saying, you know, maybe maybe I don't
- 23:52know who that lawyer is to try to get hold of, but you know,
- 23:56I don't know, maybe she'll take I don't know, I don't know
- 24:00that. And how many times are we going to do this. We know
- 24:03he steals the Enterprise in ten years to to help out Pike. Okay,
- 24:10and they don't um you know, they don't imprison him for life at that
- 24:15point. And at that point, not only does he steal the ship,
- 24:18but he violates that I don't remember what the name of the law was,
- 24:23but you know, don't go to talos or or or you know you're gonna
- 24:29be executed. You know, he broke that one too, ye, right,
- 24:33doesn't go to jail, keeps keeps his commission. It's just it's old.
- 24:37It's been done before, and every time they do it. Every time
- 24:41they do it, it cheapens the ones that they've done in the past.
- 24:48Okay, Star Trek three, they steal the Enterprise to go rescue Spock.
- 24:53That was a big deal. That was a big deal back then, right,
- 24:59you know, And I don't know, every time they do it,
- 25:02it just it just cheapens it a little bit more. You would think after
- 25:06so many like ships that have been stolen, they would have put some sort
- 25:10of measures in place to not like get them stolen like oh that that and
- 25:15they didn't them all linked security measure like it's under lock from the space docks,
- 25:22so you can't just move it parental controls. It's but that that and
- 25:27it was it was completely unnecessary, right, Okay. Instead, instead they
- 25:33could have had it that, Um, you know, Pike leaves to go
- 25:38on his his his special trip. He leaves, he leaves Spock and charge
- 25:44they get this signal. Um, they're they're out of range where they can't
- 25:48get they can't get in touch with Starfleet, and they have a choice either
- 25:52go in the wrong direction to get close enough to to get out of the
- 25:56nebula or whatever so that they can talk to star or he makes the executive
- 26:02decision on his own two, you know, take the ship to this klingon
- 26:07planet or whatever. They could have had the same They could have had the
- 26:11same story where they're cut off from Starfleet, they're on their own, without
- 26:14him disobeying a direct order from an admiral and then stealing a ship. They
- 26:18could have told the same story without the April. Yes, yes, without
- 26:23that ridiculous. Yeah, it's ridiculous, and just could have stole a shuttlecraft.
- 26:30They could have just taken a shuttlecraft to go out there and investigate,
- 26:33and that would have been that would have made more sense. And I would
- 26:34see April approving that take a shuttlecraft out there, see what's going on,
- 26:38I feel like or I'm sorry real quick, yeah, or well even that
- 26:45wouldn't be you know, Pike is already out there in a shuttlecraft. You
- 26:51know, they tell the Enterprise, they tell Spot under the command of the
- 26:53Enterprise, no you can't go. Do that. He goes back to the
- 26:56ship. He calls, He calls Pike and says, this is why happened.
- 27:00This is what's going on. They told me I can't go, And
- 27:03Pike's is, well, didn't tell me anything, and he goes, yeah,
- 27:06yeah, that's a better story. It is a better story, and
- 27:08you get Pike involved. Yes, it was gone the entire episode. Well,
- 27:14so okay, what Dan was saying is basically what I was going to
- 27:18get to. I think benching your main character, because that's what Pike is,
- 27:23He's their main character right on your season premiere, is a very weird
- 27:29choice to begin with. Yeah, I think if you wanted to do basically
- 27:34a story that shows off the whole crew, because that's basically what they were
- 27:37trying to get to, and you wanted them to do like this whole let's
- 27:41get to know each character and a little bit about them as we introduce what
- 27:45we're going to do further for the rest of the season. I think you
- 27:48needed to break it down into a smaller faction of characters. So like if
- 27:52it was just Pike and Leon and maybe that little girl, and then they've
- 27:59got to stop this war from happening, and then from there they go get
- 28:03Number one and now we come back to the Enterprise. So that way,
- 28:06by episode three, the whole band is back together and now we're off on
- 28:08adventures. That makes more sense, and that gives us time to get to
- 28:11know characters. You could have done something more episode one and two or a
- 28:18two parter, so like a little bit of this episode is maybe you do
- 28:22the same thing with Spock and the crew, but we get cuts back to
- 28:26Pike and what he's doing to get back Number one, and so it's constantly
- 28:30going back between the two and you somehow tie them together. That I think
- 28:36would have made more sense. Yeah, I'm okay. I'm okay with the
- 28:41benching your main character, you know, Pike, for an episode. I'm
- 28:45even okay with doing it on a season premiere. I don't think that's that
- 28:47big of a deal. That's especially not that big of a deal with this
- 28:49cast on crew and the way they've written the episode so far, because we
- 28:55actually know who the minor characters are, We care about the minor cares,
- 29:00we know their names, we know you know they they've done a good enough
- 29:03character development to be able to pull that off right, just they just didn't
- 29:06with this episode. But but um, yeah, so a lot of strange
- 29:11choices. Let's talk about it. I will see the consensus online. I
- 29:15went through you know, through Twitter and through TikTok, looking at the hashtags,
- 29:19gauging people's reactions. Overall, it was we're happy to see the show's
- 29:25back. Wow, this wasn't a good episode. Yeah, and that seems
- 29:30to be. Everyone is still optimistic that it'll get better. But this was
- 29:34not it. And and it had good moments. It had good moments,
- 29:37but some of those moments were so poorly placed. When he's you know,
- 29:42we all saw the moment from the from the trailer when when he's gonna,
- 29:45you know, have the ship engage and she's like, you do the thing.
- 29:52I have to have a thing, and she's like, everybody is a
- 29:53thing. They stopped the action to have this yes, uh, conversation back
- 30:00and forth and it's like, hey, guys, you're in the getaway car
- 30:04and the cops are right behind you. Why are you talking about your catchphrase?
- 30:10Yeah, that would have been a perfect opportunity to leave that totally hanging
- 30:15because they're going and like just go go go, go, go go,
- 30:18and just not and cut it off and not do it and then bring it
- 30:21up at the end of the episode. That's exactly that same scene should have
- 30:25been at the end of the episode when they're heading back to Federation Space and
- 30:29she she could have just as easily turned around to him and said, uh,
- 30:33you know, we were in a hurry before and you didn't say the
- 30:34thing? What thing? Oh, everybody has to think they could have had
- 30:37the exact same conversation. Yes, that would have been great. Yes,
- 30:41yes, um I did you know suffer for the people watch the Little Wheat
- 30:45and show. Okay, they did interview Ethan Pack and they talked specifically about
- 30:49that scene. Guys. Awesome by the way. Yeah, he said that
- 30:53it stemmed from when they were filming. There was one point where he was
- 30:59just sitting in the cap since Jared just kind of in between takes and they
- 31:02started joking about what spos thing would be, and apparently, like two days
- 31:07later it was in the script. So that's where that came from. What
- 31:11was spox thing When he was in command of the Enterprise. He never really
- 31:15had one, did he, No, Yeah, because it wasn't a thing
- 31:21back then, because they laughed at him. Yeah yeah, they left at
- 31:25the one he came up with, so he never did it again. Yeah
- 31:26yeah. So yeah, Well let's talk about the clingons for a minute,
- 31:33right, Yeah, So we get our first good look at the clean on,
- 31:34a really good multiple looks at multiple clingons, multiple both genders, minute
- 31:41men and women, and they all look a little different from one another,
- 31:45honestly from so like the one she's playing cards with has kind of elongated head
- 31:53for some reason. Okay, did you notice that? Not really? Yeah,
- 31:57I mean it's it's like what was that movie, Um that um guy
- 32:05from pulp fiction was the main alien in and they had the long heads and
- 32:09they took over Earth battlefield Earth, Battlefield Earth. Yeah, they look he
- 32:14looked more like a cyclou. That cling on she was playing cards with looked
- 32:19more like a cyclo than than I cling on in my opinion. And then
- 32:22the next cling on, a couple of cling owners we see. Look,
- 32:25I mean the one lady looked like either from the north exactly the one cling
- 32:29on that the lady that we saw did look like one of the du Ross
- 32:30sisters kind of right, So it was like, perfect, that's great.
- 32:34And then the main one that we see towards the end, that Spock is
- 32:37drinking the blood wine with um. I don't want to nip pick I'm gonna
- 32:42nippick um. His prosthetics looked plasticy hm, but they are all a little
- 32:49different, so I'm fine with that. I thought the cling ons overall were
- 32:51great. Somebody said, uh, somebody online said, and I didn't see
- 32:55it even the second time I watched it, that you can see a couple
- 32:59of discover klingons in the background. Yeah, m hmm yeah yeah. The
- 33:06guy from full Fiction yet John Travolta. I just couldn't think of the name.
- 33:08Scott. Thanks, thanks, No, No, yeah, much better.
- 33:21Yes, what does the cling on say? No? Um? But
- 33:32no, I mean I thought they looked fine. I want to see variety
- 33:37like and I think that's an important thing to think about too, when we're
- 33:39talking about aliens and even even people. Um, you know, always want
- 33:43diversity with humans. I want diversity of aliens too. I don't want every
- 33:45single cling on to look exactly like the last cling on. I just saw,
- 33:47like, what's the point of that? Yeah, so I wanted to
- 33:51all look a little different, you know. So, Um, I think
- 33:58it's funny that in Benga has got basically venom Bain's venom. Same thing with
- 34:06the nurse Chapel. I didn't like that scene at all. Yeah, it
- 34:10felt so forced when he pulls it out and she's like instantly knows what it
- 34:16is. We don't know what it is because you know, no one bothered
- 34:20to tell us. But she's like, oh, you have the thing.
- 34:22Do you always carry the thing with you? I always carry the thing with
- 34:25you with me. Okay, let's do the thing. And then you know,
- 34:29they shoot each other up and suddenly Jason Bourne, you know, and
- 34:34and they're doing their own uh. I think Daniel called it the hallway fight,
- 34:37like, yeah, it was, it was. It was silly,
- 34:43it was forced. Yeah, when they first did it, I was like,
- 34:47did I forget something like was this from the first season? Yeah?
- 34:52No, I was thinking the same thing too, that you know, I
- 34:54must have forgot something. What I thought when he first pulled that out and
- 34:58handed one to her and she says, and she makes that line about,
- 35:00oh, you always carry the thing. But I was thinking was that was
- 35:05a youth in Asia pill in case they got captured. Yeah, you know
- 35:08that was my first thought, was that he always carries that on him so
- 35:12that nobody can ever interrogate him. We got a bunch of lead up about
- 35:15what happened during the war and the things that he did during the war.
- 35:17And we already know Minbank is a badass, right, I mean we just
- 35:22know that, and transit from everything we've heard about what he did during they
- 35:25laid a bunch of background in this episode two about what he did. Um,
- 35:30so they did say. They did say they both served in the Klingon
- 35:32War exactly exactly, which I kind of don't understand that because is she a
- 35:42member of Starfleet or not? Right, because she does not wear a Starfleet
- 35:46uniform. Yeah, well, she's like the un medical team. This is
- 35:52what I wanted to make her out to be. Yeah, that's what they
- 35:53make her out to be, is like she's part of this Doctors Without Borders
- 35:58kind of thing, like a civilian group yeah, exactly exactly. That that's
- 36:01kind of what they make her out to be as far as what they're you
- 36:05know, what she's doing, so okay, whatever, Yeah, it is
- 36:10what it is. Maybe when we go to Vegas we can ask them,
- 36:14because I'm sure that'd be great, that'd be great. Yeah, I will
- 36:16ask her anything, Sure, you would exactly. Actually I probably wouldn't be
- 36:24able to ask her anything face to face talking to her. I'd buy just
- 36:28drool and say I'm sorry. Yeah anyway, Star Trek so, I you
- 36:42know when they blew themselves out into space and and correct me if I'm wrong.
- 36:49But have we seen that recently as well? That felt awfully familiar.
- 36:54But I couldn't blowing the cells like that. Princess Leiah did it in the
- 37:00Star No I know that? Oh God, I know that. Yeah,
- 37:04No, I I mean, I mean Star Trek Wise, have they done
- 37:07that recently? I just felt very familiar, but I couldn't put my finger
- 37:09on un where. I just feel like we've seen it a lot in other
- 37:15movies. Yeah, okay, maybe that was it. Maybe that's what it
- 37:19was. I do like that he said, you know, we've got a
- 37:22minute before we die. Eighteen seconds and we're going to pass out, so
- 37:25it doesn't matter. Yeah, so at least there's that. Yeah. So
- 37:31the serum, the Super Soldier Serum, Yeah, happened in Discovery. Somebody
- 37:37Surbronson said it happened in Discovery. Then blowing themselves out into space, there
- 37:42was a Discovery thing. I know, I'll be honest. Remember I don't
- 37:47remember anything from Discovery. I watched it once to do this show and then
- 37:52oh yeah, I know they did in the first season with trying to get
- 37:53burn them offers people off of the off of the one ship that was about
- 37:58to come. Weren't they need V suits? Like, it's not quite the
- 38:00same thing. Yeah, maybe not the same thing, but I remember that
- 38:01happening in the first season. I believe the first couple of episodes of the
- 38:05first season. Actually yea, once we get past the Binary Stars battle bullshit.
- 38:09Yeah all right, So the Super Soldier Serum, what do you think
- 38:14it is? Oh, it's mainly from the Green Goblin because it's green.
- 38:20It's right up there with the Magic Blood. So so so I'm wondering if
- 38:29it is um tied back, Yeah, tied back to Enterprise with the um
- 38:39the Augments. Yeah, I mean it should be. It should be if
- 38:45they're gonna do this and have that, then they need to tie it into
- 38:47that greater story. Yeah, for sure, for sure. So I'm still
- 38:52confused about why Una is in jail and Lawn is not. I mean they're
- 39:01both they're both genetically enhanced, right. I don't think Lan is genetically enhanced.
- 39:12She's out drinking pling once. I know she's genetically enhanced. Yeah.
- 39:16Yeah, And she shares a name Cotton Union thing, so it's not like
- 39:24nobody nobody knows. Maybe that's why because people know, and so it's like
- 39:29up front, well, and she was born that way as opposed to um,
- 39:35lying about your race, right, I mean they've got don't they?
- 39:38If I now have the accords in place? As far as the augment stuff,
- 39:43I mean I thought they did by now, right, or am I
- 39:45in the timeline wrong? I get confused. Oh, um, maybe I
- 39:49think they do by now in this in this time, I'm pretty sure they
- 39:52have augment you know, not an augmentation of that stuff. KOBA Accords are
- 39:57in place, yes, Um, it's the Mutant Registration Act, right,
- 40:00That's what it is exactly. Yeah. Also, are going to come on
- 40:02in the next episode it'll be great. Um, but no, Um,
- 40:07I'm pretty sure that's all in place, and so that's fine. But I
- 40:10mean, she was born that way. It wasn't that she did it on
- 40:14intentionally right Union Songs Offspring somehow, I don't know how, but um,
- 40:23I don't know anyway. See, that's part of the problem. They're already
- 40:28kind of like roping themselves into weird logic holes that. Yeah, but I
- 40:32mean I'm okay with some of that, you know, I mean I want
- 40:36them to be a little looser with it so we can have some fun with
- 40:38the damn thing. M yeah, country, that's right. Ln was born
- 40:44with enhanced genetics soon as people do it regularly, right, And that was
- 40:47she was supposed to tell them who she was, right, okay, right,
- 40:52so and she never did. She lied about who she was on her
- 40:53Starfleet application. She's lied to everybody her entire life about who she is and
- 40:57what she can actually do. Right, And we know law On is augmented,
- 41:04not just from she's drinking cling onto the table, but do you remember
- 41:06their fight scene last season where the two of them teamed up to do a
- 41:10battle Royale against I forget who was on the ship the Pirates. Maybe that
- 41:14was the Pirate episode they were in engineering, maybe, But when we had
- 41:19the Captain Angel episode, there was one of those episodes with the two of
- 41:21them, Lawn and Luna were fighting together in engineering against somebody, and we're
- 41:25beating a crap at everybody. I mean, it was just remember Una even
- 41:30making a comment about I don't get to do this very often. Yeah,
- 41:34they don't do this very often, but whatever. So do you think we'll
- 41:38see that little girl more? The Gorn girl? No? I don't know
- 41:43why we would. Yeah. I mean, if they got a Gorn attack
- 41:49ship waiting out there, I think we will see her one more time.
- 41:52Do you think so? I think she's going to be in peril and they
- 41:53got a save her. Why constantly put the same girl in peril because that's
- 41:59your your hook? Yeah? Yeah, yeah, I don't know. She's
- 42:04way over here now, I know the corner way over there doesn't make sense
- 42:07to me. It doesn't matter. I guess it doesn't matter. It's true.
- 42:10What do you think about this weird situation though? The thirty days?
- 42:15Just thinking about how ridiculous? Yeah? Yeah, who who came up with
- 42:20that ridiculous? It came up with that so ridiculous. It doesn't make sense
- 42:27and it doesn't make any sense. Okay, So what is the significance of
- 42:35thirty days? Yeah, I'll tell you that is the average cycle of Earth
- 42:42smoon. That's that's where thirty days comes from. Yeah, you know,
- 42:47So to translate that to something that Klingons would agree to, yeah, just
- 42:53it just doesn't make any sense. It doesn't make any sense. Um,
- 43:00and which days? You know we're talking about outer space? Is that thirty
- 43:02Earth days, thirty Chronos days, thirty days on that planet? Um?
- 43:12Yeah, I don't know. Could have done? Yeah, yeah, you're
- 43:19right. I just feel like some of these things they could have just if
- 43:22they sat down a little bit longer in the writer's room, Okay, they
- 43:27could have come up with something better. Like you know, the the the
- 43:34planet is still owned by the people that live there, but it's administrated by
- 43:42you know, some third party. No, some third party like Intergalactic Switzerland
- 43:49runs this planet, okay, and it's their job to uh make sure that
- 43:53everyone who goes there to buy their stuff plays nice and that that would make
- 43:59more that would make more sense. You know what you could have done the
- 44:02start of the Phineas Rangers. The group seven was in, like, that's
- 44:07one of their first assignments is running this place. Okay, so at least
- 44:13you have that, you know, FERENGI Yeah, So, I mean,
- 44:21on one hand I agreed in on another hand, I completely disagree. I
- 44:23think the reason they came up with all of this is because they spent too
- 44:27much time in the writer's room and did a shuttle craft, their space shuttle
- 44:32version of a storyline where they had so many cooks in the kitchen that they
- 44:37came up with total shit by the end of it. As opposed to you
- 44:40know, I think, I think there's something to be said when you're in
- 44:44a writer's room and you got three or four people that are working on something
- 44:47that every no, everything in the background of Trek intrinsically have the Bible,
- 44:52have the whole nine yards of what they're trying to do, and there's only
- 44:53three or four when it's narrowed down when it gets outside of that, and
- 45:00you got five, six, eight, ten, Especially knowing that this one
- 45:04was written up by the freaking, you know, craziness of all the producers
- 45:09involved. That's where the issue comes in because they were trying to direct a
- 45:14certain narrative that had nothing to do with all those other things I just mentioned
- 45:17the Bible for the show, the Bible of Trek, of Star Trek itself,
- 45:22everything else, right, So it's just uh, yeah, when I
- 45:27was watching the opening credits and I saw how many producers, consulting producers,
- 45:31executive producers, like seriously guys watched the opening of the show that the opening
- 45:37creditscers. Yeah, that's the problem. Thank god for the writer strikes as
- 45:42jazz business. Yeah. Yeah. The thing is they started writing these like
- 45:51Ethan Pec said in an interview that they started working on this four months before
- 45:57season one came out, so they were already into it. Wow. Yeah,
- 46:05yeah, I mean, so that's good and bad. Right. That's
- 46:13good from the standpoint of they were having the foe thought, they were trying
- 46:15to keep their their logic of what they did in season one going and keep
- 46:21along that same vein. It's also bad because they didn't see any of the
- 46:23reactions from season one, right, and weren't able to include anything updates,
- 46:29thoughts, feelings from all of that in season two. That's the bad part.
- 46:34So yeah, kind of kind of tough. Yeah, I will say
- 46:43that the consensus online like I said mixed reactions. Wasn'to you know, one
- 46:49way or the other. Everyone else is hoping that basically gets better as we
- 46:52move on. I did watch a little bit of a stream from Robert Myers
- 46:58Burnett, who's a pretty big Our Trick critic out there. Apparently he has
- 47:02seen quite a few episodes already and he is not too hot on what's coming
- 47:07around the pike. Yeah, not what we want to here, obviously.
- 47:12Right. This is the same guy who they'd say though that Pocard season three
- 47:16was fantastic and he was right about that. So well that makes it even
- 47:21worse, yeah, doesn't it? Yeah, so that makes it even worse.
- 47:27Yeah, so hopefully he gets better. Um yeah, well, Jasmith,
- 47:38we all know how Scott Batters is the one the only producer of this
- 47:42show. That's true, That's true. Um, but yeah, man,
- 47:52apparently we're gonna get a few time travel episodes as well. We do have
- 47:54the Lower Decks crossover to yeah ahead of us. Um, we'll get to
- 48:02see episode eight together. I know that, yep, yep, seven,
- 48:07we'll be right before it. Yeah, so that'll be cool. Yeah,
- 48:12um, that will be cool. I uh, I did see it gets
- 48:22I just hope it gets better. Yeah, I did see the preview for
- 48:27for next week. Okay, go ahead and tell us about that. I
- 48:29haven't seen the preview. I saw I come up, but I hadn't seen
- 48:30it either, So it very much looks like a Pike centered episode. Um.
- 48:36The preview I saw had Pike. He was on a planet where he
- 48:40couldn't breathe very well, so he was wearing a mask, which I thought
- 48:44was funny. And and uh, and he's there just to go get to
- 48:51get number one out of out of jail, I guess, or whatever it
- 48:52is. And and so it'll just be him him centered. It looks like
- 49:01okay, yeah, I mean I think it'd be really hard. Um.
- 49:07I feel like they'd have to actually almost intentionally fuck up the entire season,
- 49:13um, in order for me to not enjoy it, Because I still enjoyed
- 49:15this episode even though it's kind of odd, and I like the characters enough.
- 49:21They did enough in the first season with developing those characters, then I'm
- 49:23still gonna enjoy it regardless. They would really have to. They would they
- 49:28would have to make every script as odd or awkward or worse than this one
- 49:30in order for it to be a bad season. So you know, um,
- 49:35every every Star Trek series ever has always had a rough first season.
- 49:40This is the one with the exception where they had an excellent first season.
- 49:44So if they have a slightly rough second season as they're kind of feeling their
- 49:47way out into getting into more details of things, then I'm okay with that.
- 49:52Yeah, you know, um, we hope we're gonna get five seasons
- 49:54or more out of this. I can't see how at this point we wouldn't.
- 49:59I mean, if you can go three deep with Picard after two horrible
- 50:01ones and you can get five with Disco, how can you not get five
- 50:09out of this? Um? So I mean so so yeah, I mean,
- 50:15I'm I'm I'm not discouraged in terms of what the rest of the season's
- 50:19gonna be. Like, I'm sure it'll be great. I'm sure it'll be
- 50:21fantastic. You know, Um, every every every season's gonna have a stinker
- 50:25somewhere, and they just happened to have the first one be unfortunately, be
- 50:30that one. So I mean, hell, go back and look at t
- 50:31AND season one. Actually, don't don't go watch t G season one.
- 50:35It's bad, especially the one with the tree. What do you what do
- 50:39you say If you look mostly you can see the porn Dan is watching in
- 50:43the collection of the sunglasses. That's fine, you know what. He was
- 50:47holding up the phone a minute ago. I wondered, what do you do
- 50:51if you don't want me to look at those pictures? Don't send them to
- 50:52me? Exactly? This is on you, yeah, exactly, with the
- 51:00caption a happy Father's Day, and you send you those photos exactly. Yeah,
- 51:04yeah, all right, we should we get to feedback? Sure,
- 51:07yeah, yeah, I gotta have a hard stop in like ten minutes.
- 51:15Hey, mail, Well, now you tell us about your hard stop.
- 51:22Yeah, sorry, sorry, I mean you guys can keep going. I'll
- 51:25just have to bow out. Yeah, that's fine. We can talk about
- 51:29we can talk about flash when he bows out, see it? Yeah?
- 51:32Sorry, Well, let's bring in jazz businesses and then Chad, if you
- 51:37want to look up there's a COOFE account one too. Okay, yea,
- 51:39I'll look it up real quick. Yeah, there is jazz bus in the
- 51:43dark. Just hello, I guess I didn't turn the lights on, so
- 51:45yeah, I know you didn't. Should we should? We just guys your
- 51:51voice you can tell us how you really feel about Yeah, yeah, starting
- 51:57to worlds touched me here. So what did you think of the episode?
- 52:07Well, they gave Spok a leap for high blood pressure. That's that's a
- 52:12good thing to start to show off with. And it's like, okay,
- 52:15that's that's what doctors do on this ship. I guess he has a loot
- 52:20hidden in the background. Yeah, they gave they gave spoking easter egg for
- 52:25them start of the show. Yeah, it's you start playing this stupidly,
- 52:32you know what. Okay, that scene was weird to me too, because
- 52:37basically Spock is going in and saying, hey, I'm in charge of this
- 52:39thing and I don't feel like emotionally ready to handle this or emotionally compromise to
- 52:45handle this. And then the chief medical offers is like, yeah, you're
- 52:47fine instead of m we should look into this. Yeah, and then they
- 52:53have like this almost video game style of his blood pressure when he starts playing
- 52:59the league. Yeah. I was like, it's like, get out of
- 53:02here. And then you know, they still the enterprise, which I thought
- 53:09was it's been done every single series and show and you're missing Pike like this
- 53:20really yeah, it really should have been Pike and Noon right now. And
- 53:24then the next episode, maybe they still the enterprise to see what they were
- 53:29doing when he's gone, because yeah, they still start off with a pike,
- 53:36I think. And that storyline because this this storyline was really I don't
- 53:43know, I just I didn't like it. And Carol Kane had this weird
- 53:46accent. I mean, that's how she talks. No, no, no,
- 53:51She's purposely made an accent for this shows true. Yeah, yeah,
- 53:55and trying to think, what's the name of it because I wrote it,
- 54:00Oh yeah, Leon and Leon Lantha night Length the Night That was her accent.
- 54:07And I had a hard time understanding her when she came on the ship
- 54:13because all I could see is Carol Kane with fairy wings on about to hit
- 54:15you with the toaster. So I had to google that because I was like,
- 54:20do we know this race? Are they from something else? Like at
- 54:22first I thought it's what Tasha Yar was for some reason, but it's not.
- 54:30Yeah, she's just a human and she can talk human appearing, it's
- 54:37a different thing apparely. They age very slowly or something, and I don't
- 54:42know. And then the cling like you guys said that they're kind of weird.
- 54:46Yeah, And and not only did they look weird. They acted weird.
- 54:52They didn't act like true Klingons. And I'm sitting the ones on the
- 54:57planet, well some some of them like actors with cling on makeup on.
- 55:04Yeah, no accent, yeah, no accent go on, you know,
- 55:08yeah, nothing like that. And the women said, I had boob windows
- 55:13on their outfits, like the boom windows, you know, cheese. I
- 55:22was like, I was missing that, as one does. Everybody wants everybody
- 55:30wants the boob windows. And when they go to the planet, she's drinking
- 55:35them out of the table. She's like, uh, was it Indiana Joe
- 55:37scene where she keeps playing them, Yeah, awesome, back to drinks and
- 55:42I like it, oh, because you could tell she was struggling even though
- 55:45she managed to get through it. I think they did a good job of
- 55:49that. Then and then she brings out the thermal detonator and it's just gonna
- 55:52blow them. There's a bunch of like Star Wars and other references here and
- 56:00and then in Benga and Chapel dude john Wick injecting themselves V from the Boy
- 56:07Yeah, yeah, yeah, and yeah they got that tim V And I
- 56:13don't know. I watched the scene over last night and I was just like,
- 56:15this just does not make sense because they said it's not their first time
- 56:20to do this, I guess, so, yeah, it's just going to
- 56:23come back later on in the season. Maybe it's illegal, maybe they're not
- 56:29supposed to do it. Um, yeah, but they do it anyway.
- 56:34Kind of thing. I don't know. Gentry says. One thing that was
- 56:37weird They didn't need the Enterprise to do what Spot did. It could have
- 56:39been a much smaller ship. And Carol will always be the old Wizard's wife,
- 56:44yelling liar from Princess. But of course you will, right, Yeah,
- 56:46he's yeah. The chocolate coating makes it called down easier. Yeah.
- 56:52Sorry, it's just so funny. And she's just an odd choice for engineer
- 57:00period. Well, Hammer was so good last year killed him. Yeah,
- 57:04it was actually really cool. Yeah, he was, yes, and it
- 57:10was different. I liked him because it was he was blind, right,
- 57:15yep, Yeah, and it was cool. It's like, I really like
- 57:20what they did. I mean, that's the second blind engineer they've had on
- 57:22the ship, so yeah, actually because it was the first, yes,
- 57:29but he was one of two. Yeah, And this is the issue I
- 57:31had with prequels, is you know that Chapel's not going to die. In
- 57:37that scene when they blow out of their loot, you just know. It's
- 57:42like, so you kind of lose that. Oh know, if she's gonna
- 57:45die or she's not gonna die. We don't know that I can make a
- 57:47Chapel bot. Where can I order one? Yea, let the drooling continue?
- 57:57Take my money? Yeah, because and uh, I was, I
- 58:07gotta say. And they did a barrel roll through the asteroids. That's cool.
- 58:15I mean, the CG was cool. It wasn't hugging the donkey,
- 58:20but it was good. Yeah. I was like, well, they had
- 58:22like some really cool things you watch, Yeah, and I like like the
- 58:28CG. I like the way of a shot. But it comes down to
- 58:32writing. And that's that's the part. After you watched the whole season in
- 58:37the card that was excellent, and then you go to this and it's kind
- 58:42of I had that Dan reaction. I was like, I don't know,
- 58:45I gotta watch it again. And I watched it again. Yeah. So
- 58:52somebody in the chat asked about understanding ma Benga and no, you're not alone.
- 58:59I sometimes have to back it up to almost the subtitles on Yeah,
- 59:04I love his voice, though, I really do. He's actually cool,
- 59:07Like, yeah, he's just an awesome character. Is the context, like
- 59:12the way he's saying it. He needs They need to work on that part
- 59:15so you can hit it in louder somehow. You'll probably get this. Since
- 59:20they're rebooting the DCU, wouldn't bega not make an amazing mister terrific Um.
- 59:28Yeah, I guess. I mean I don't know a lot about mister Terriffic.
- 59:30I don't even know who that is. Yeah, okay, that's yeah,
- 59:38as long as I can understand what he's saying. Right, Great,
- 59:44they put the banging mask on him and then have there and then then you're
- 59:47really screwed there you go. Yeah, um hm, anything else you want
- 59:58to bring up? Well, it's not so exciting this episode. Yeah,
- 1:00:01it's we wanted to love it. We wanted to love it. Yeah,
- 1:00:07it's sad. I think I wanted to come in after you guys talk about
- 1:00:09like superhero movies and all that something. Yeah, talk about that. Yeah,
- 1:00:17all right, we'll good tear me appreciate it. Yeah, guys,
- 1:00:22I'm gonna drop um so Sorry'm gonna miss the rest of the feedback. Um,
- 1:00:27but uh yeah, fun times today, get three feed back, and
- 1:00:30then talk about I'll go back and listen and listen to the rest of the
- 1:00:34feedbacks here later on today and then and then uh watch watch the Flash and
- 1:00:39listen to your feedback on Yeah, alright, well, yeah sounds good,
- 1:00:43guys, get you later, all right, Chad, thanks you guys.
- 1:00:46All right, people, So we're gonna talk about the Flash. Yeah,
- 1:00:52yeah, Scott. Scott's saying, I'm about to see the Flash of two.
- 1:00:55You may want to bow out because we're gonna do spoilers. Well,
- 1:01:00are we done? Are we done? Tracking? Yeah, we're done?
- 1:01:01Ting. Okay, didn't you say you had something in the kofee account?
- 1:01:06There was a oh yeah, but I was waiting for Chad to pull that
- 1:01:08up and not me. Oh all right, that's all right, we'll do
- 1:01:12next week. That's cool. Yeah, let's do that because all right,
- 1:01:15we'll take a little bit. Um yeah, man, would you think?
- 1:01:21Um? It was probably my favorite movie from the DC EU, really,
- 1:01:31the whole um not my favorite DC movie, okay, um, just my
- 1:01:38favorite from the DC EU. So we're talking a Man of Steel, Batman
- 1:01:44versus Superman, both Justice Leagues, both Wonder Woman's Aquaman, both suicide squads,
- 1:01:52uh, Peacemaker and what Birds of Prey that I didn't see? Is
- 1:01:57that pretty much everything? That's pretty much everything. That's pretty much everything.
- 1:02:00Yeah. Yeah, so this was probably my favorite, okay of all that.
- 1:02:06Um, I didn't like Man of Steel, I didn't like uh Batman
- 1:02:13versus Superman. I it's gonna sound terrible, but I think I enjoyed the
- 1:02:20regular Justice League more than Zack Snyder. I'm not saying it was a good
- 1:02:23film, but right, but Zack Snyder's Justice League was was, you know,
- 1:02:28three days long? And um, I like the First Wonder Woman,
- 1:02:34I like the Aquaman, I liked Peacemaker. I'm upset with myself that I
- 1:02:37liked it because it's not what I think comic book movies should be. But
- 1:02:43I did enjoy it. Um. And I don't even really like this version
- 1:02:51of Barry Allen because it's nothing like the comic books. Right. That's his
- 1:02:55you know, when he first showed up in in Justice League, and he
- 1:03:00was this high strung, weird kid. That's not that's not what he's supposed
- 1:03:07to be. He's a police scientist. So I don't even like this version
- 1:03:13of the character very much. But I did enjoy this movie. Um,
- 1:03:19and not even just because Michael Keaton. I mean, Michael Keaton was great.
- 1:03:24I thought it was awesome to see him again. I thought it was
- 1:03:30a cool storyline. And I know it's based on Flashpoint, but it's not
- 1:03:35exactly the same. I think they did a good job of doing it similar
- 1:03:39but not exactly the same. I really enjoyed the dynamic between him and his
- 1:03:45younger self, and I think that resonates with people because who would not be
- 1:03:52annoyed with meeting their younger self? Oh yeah, because you're obviously dealing with
- 1:03:58a version of yourself elf that's not as wise as you and that has to
- 1:04:02be very Um. Who is it just me just because you were talking?
- 1:04:11Oh all right? But you know, I mean who wouldn't be annoyed with
- 1:04:16themselves because you know, you're looking at yourself thinking, you think you're so
- 1:04:21smart, but you're an idiot because I know all the mistakes that you are
- 1:04:25going to make over the next ten years or so. And also seeing him
- 1:04:32being essentially jealous of himself. Yeah, at the same time, because this
- 1:04:39is a version of him that grew up having everything that he wanted in the
- 1:04:42world and he's an asshole because of it. Yeah, So that was that
- 1:04:46was interesting to see, um, And I thought it was you know,
- 1:04:55because he has that wisdom over the other version of himself. He's the one
- 1:05:00who figures out in the end that this is an unwinnable scenario. It doesn't
- 1:05:05matter how many times we go back, we can't. We can't change this.
- 1:05:12Yeah, we can't. We can't fix this. And and the painful
- 1:05:15decision that he had to make to go back and just let that tragedy that
- 1:05:20defined him just let it happen. Um, that was powerful, you know,
- 1:05:26the last few minutes with his with his mother in the in the market
- 1:05:30there, that was that was powerful. And I also, um, I
- 1:05:34also enjoy how he even then he didn't even completely learn the lesson. Yeah,
- 1:05:44in the end, in the end, he moved the can of tomatoes
- 1:05:47so that his dad's face would show up on the the security camera and exonerate
- 1:05:53him. And it still had the butterfly effect because when Bruce steps out of
- 1:06:00the car, it's not who we expected to be, right, Um,
- 1:06:03Which I don't know how they're going to rectify that going forward, but that's
- 1:06:06that's a whole that's a whole other thing. So yeah, so I mean
- 1:06:12they could even I mean they could even use that in the sequel somehow that
- 1:06:17he's had he still hasn't fixed everything. He still has work to do to
- 1:06:21uh, to fix what happened. A lot of people, you know,
- 1:06:26I like the cameos. There are a lot of cameos when he's inside the
- 1:06:30multiverse or whatever it's called. A lot of people complained about the CGI.
- 1:06:36Yeah, I didn't mind so much. I think because I understood that that
- 1:06:45is a representation of those events that he's seeing while he's inside the speed force
- 1:06:53that's not which is what the director has said. Yeah, yeah, yeah,
- 1:06:57um. I I enjoyed the movie. I thought it was fun.
- 1:07:03Yeah. I thought it was goofy and silly. At some points it made
- 1:07:08me laugh a lot. I was very entertaining an emotional with it. Um.
- 1:07:15I heard something walking into the movie that stuck with me the entire time,
- 1:07:18and I wanted to bring it up to you. See what your thoughts
- 1:07:20are. Okay, okay. If if they had swapped out Michael Keaton and
- 1:07:28they used Christian Bale instead, did everything the exact same, but it was
- 1:07:32Bail, would it resonate as well no, I don't think so okay,
- 1:07:42and that's me I don't have I don't have the same connection to Christian Bale
- 1:07:46that I have to Michael Keaton. M Yeah. I mean I was twelve
- 1:07:57years old when Batman eighty nine came out, so you know, I was
- 1:08:00approaching being a teenager, but I was still very much a kid. Yeah.
- 1:08:05Um so it's a call back to It's a call back to my childhood.
- 1:08:14So I think that's why I I connected with with Keaton. M.
- 1:08:23So to give you an idea though, Okay, Thatavan Begins was released in
- 1:08:27two thousand and five, so but eighteen years ago. Yeah, so for
- 1:08:30for kids who were ten years old when that movie came out, they'd be
- 1:08:34what mid twenties by now, so like for them, it would be the
- 1:08:39exact same thing that you experienced. Um So, I get why people are
- 1:08:44asking that question, but I think this was basically the last time you could
- 1:08:48do it with Keaton, and you got to do that. Yeah. Yeah,
- 1:08:55um, I enjoyed the film. Uh. As far as your question
- 1:09:02of like what are they doing with George Clooney and the further moving on,
- 1:09:10I kind of have a feeling that because James Gunn has said. There's an
- 1:09:15interview he did on Michael Rosenbaum's podcast where he said that Blue Beetle will be
- 1:09:20the first d DCU character, but Superman would be the first DCU movie.
- 1:09:29So to me, it sounds like okay, But here's my understanding of what
- 1:09:34that means. They're gonna pick and choose what they want. The reboot is
- 1:09:42Superman, and then going forward, there might be elements that were in the
- 1:09:46past, but it's gonna be like, here's a new timeline that may have
- 1:09:51similar elements with it from what you've seen, So those histories don't matter,
- 1:10:00but the characterization is the same. Well, I mean, we've also got
- 1:10:04another Aquaman movie right coming, right, So they've made such a mess.
- 1:10:15They have made such a mess, and it's not, um, it's not
- 1:10:19beyond them. They know this, they know this. Um, that's bull.
- 1:10:27I was gonna say, the Bull of the Bull of Spaghetti. Yeah.
- 1:10:30Um yeah. That's why I think Superman is going to be the hard
- 1:10:35reboot more than they want us to know right now, because they don't want
- 1:10:40to say everything is completely rebooting on Superman. Well, then why do I
- 1:10:43need to see these other movies? Yeah? Yeah, Um, I mean
- 1:10:51this movie went through rewrites and reshoots and all that. I don't know why
- 1:10:56they didn't use this as the opportunity to do all that. Yeah, they
- 1:11:02absolutely should have. They'm also disappointed that the last one. Yeah, I'm
- 1:11:09also disappointed that, um, you know, Grant Gustin didn't show you could
- 1:11:16have put him in there in any capacity at all. Um. And it
- 1:11:21was even more stinging when you see the Golden Age Flash in the and it's
- 1:11:28Tony's ears. Yeah. Yeah, it's not even John Wesley ship. Yeah,
- 1:11:33it's a guy masquerading as yeah, as the Golden Age Flash. So
- 1:11:39I don't know what the deal was at that. Yeah. Yeah. What's
- 1:11:45funny is, like he has said, I didn't they didn't bring me in
- 1:11:48for that. They just took footage of me and then kind of altered it.
- 1:11:53And yeah, like which means I mean they one hundred percent had the
- 1:12:00ability to put Grant Gustin exactly in there. So I mean they had filmed.
- 1:12:11So people are asking, you know what, Miller not canceled, why
- 1:12:14would they use them for this? Look, man, they shot this movie
- 1:12:17years ago. Yeah, and like we're holding off on the effects and everything.
- 1:12:23They kept rewriting the Easter eggs in it, Like, eventually they just
- 1:12:28had to to release the thing, and they had invested so much money into
- 1:12:32this to reshoot it with the new actor was just untenable. Yeah. No,
- 1:12:38I wasn't saying that they should reshoot it with new actor. I'm just
- 1:12:41talking about all the cameos they of all the cameos they did, they didn't
- 1:12:45they didn't do John Wesley Ship and Grant Gustin and that that was baffling to
- 1:12:51me. Yeah. Yeah. Uh. Andrew Mucchietti has says that there is
- 1:12:57a deleted scene with Keaton explaining why he gave up being Batman. Yeah,
- 1:13:03apparently it's a very powerful scene. He says it's going to be in the
- 1:13:06deleted scenes for the DVD. So okay, yeah, I did, like,
- 1:13:12um, you know where he says God, he basically said, I'm
- 1:13:16not needed anymore. Gotham City. Gotham City is the safest big city in
- 1:13:20the world or something to that, which is what you know, And that
- 1:13:25really hit home for me being a New Yorker. Yeah, because New York
- 1:13:30City used to be an utter shithole right in the seventies and the eighties.
- 1:13:35New York City was an absolute shit hole. And say what you want about
- 1:13:41him now, I know he kind of went off the rails, uh the
- 1:13:44last few years. But Rudy Giuliani came in and really cleaned up New York
- 1:13:48City and um, you know, it became the kind of place that you
- 1:13:53could you could take your kids. Yeah, And that was the tagline that
- 1:13:57we would hear all the time, is safest big city in the world save
- 1:14:00this big city in the world, and it was true. It's a shit
- 1:14:03hole again. It's an absolute shit hole again because the last two guys are
- 1:14:06are are completely incompetent. But you know, so to hear that line and
- 1:14:12have them equate that to Gotham City as a New Yorker, I kind of
- 1:14:16said to myself, I would I would be interested to see that Gotham City
- 1:14:20and see what it see what it looks like. But apparently if the city
- 1:14:24becomes really nice, then your, um, your mansion on the outskirts of
- 1:14:29town becomes a shit al because nobody's cut the grass in ten years. That
- 1:14:33was my favorite. When Ben Affleck was holding onto the rubber truth, the
- 1:14:38last oh truth, and I really wanted to fix Gotham. I would get
- 1:14:42rid of Bob. Yeah. Yeah, that's funny that he admits it.
- 1:14:48Yeah. Yeah. But so it was you know, even though I didn't
- 1:14:54like the Justice League movie Slash movies, Um, it was nice to see
- 1:15:01them together again, even though we didn't get all of them, um,
- 1:15:06you know, getting Batman and Wonder Woman in Flash one. It was it
- 1:15:11was nice. It was nice. It was nice to see Yeah, um
- 1:15:15the you know, I like how Alfred was there and basically called him in
- 1:15:21to uh, to clean up Batman's mess. That was cool. I thought
- 1:15:28the the scene with the with the baby shower, yeah was neat Um that
- 1:15:36he couldn't just grab them because he would hurt the babies. Yes, yeah,
- 1:15:41yep. I think there was a missed opportunity there where you know,
- 1:15:46he's running low on calories and he needs and he needs some food, um,
- 1:15:54and you know they had him break into the vending machine. I think
- 1:15:57there was a missed opportunity for some comedy there if he just started sucking down
- 1:16:01baby formula. Yeah, because it's literally it's just liquid calories. That's all
- 1:16:09it is. Yeah, that's all it is. Yeah. You know a
- 1:16:14scene with him on the ground later and he's belching, and he's just like,
- 1:16:16oh, that's gusting, that's so gross. How can they drink that
- 1:16:19stuff? You could have done. Somebody pats his back like good job,
- 1:16:21and then that's when he belches like he's been converted, or he spits up
- 1:16:26like a like a little baby does, but he has too much formula.
- 1:16:30Yeah, miss missed opportunity. That's a missed opportunity. That's funny. Um.
- 1:16:34I enjoyed it. I took my son and his friend to see it.
- 1:16:36They both enjoyed it. Oh good, Um nice. Yeah, the
- 1:16:42post credit scene, I mean, it was nice to see that guy,
- 1:16:46but it really didn't add anything. Yeah, it didn't matter. It didn't
- 1:16:50add anything at all. Yeah. Um, I would have much rather seen
- 1:16:58a hint of something to come. Yeah, whether it's Bruce, Wayne Clark,
- 1:17:03Kent, somebody. I don't think they. I mean, I imagine
- 1:17:08at this point they do kind of know what's to come, but to to
- 1:17:12have the people in place already to kind of show that, I don't think
- 1:17:15they're at that point. So yeah, um, it was really cool seeing
- 1:17:23Christopher Reeve yeah with that cool yes, yes, So that hit me right
- 1:17:30right in the fields. Yeah, because you know, growing up, that
- 1:17:34was my that was my Superman and seeing him on screen with Helen's later,
- 1:17:42that's the first time we've seen that those two characters, you know, those
- 1:17:45movies exist in the same universe, but we've never seen those two characters right
- 1:17:49together, right, So it was it was cool. M I do like
- 1:17:58to that Keaton had no idea what Superman was. Yeah, that's kind of
- 1:18:02weird because they have a they have a Batman eighty nine comic and a Superman
- 1:18:11seventy eight comic, right, and it's based on the Keaton Batman and the
- 1:18:16Reeve Superman, and they've they've confirmed that they exist in the same universe.
- 1:18:24So well, that's that strange spaghetti Yeah, and and you know we know
- 1:18:30that. See it's it's weird because Val Kilmer and what's the other guy,
- 1:18:39the guy stepped out of the car at the end, Jess George Clooney.
- 1:18:43They are that that is the same Batman. Yeah, um, but they've
- 1:18:46kind of treated it like it's not. Yeah, and I think it was
- 1:18:53I think it was George Clooney who dropped who name dropped Superman in that movie?
- 1:18:58Yid you know this is why Superman works alone. So and the other
- 1:19:03argument is, you know, the Michael Keaton Batman that we saw Thursday night
- 1:19:10when we went to the movies is not the same Batman from the Nights in
- 1:19:15eighty nine movies. Right, Um, he's another version who is very very
- 1:19:20His timeline is very, very very similar to that one. I guess that's
- 1:19:26how we can explain that away, because you know, he's got a waterfall
- 1:19:30in his bat cave, Michael Keaton. Michael Keaton never had a waterfall in
- 1:19:32his back cave. I like when we were escaping and he's sitting they're doing
- 1:19:36his calculations. Yes, and that was a great That was a great callback.
- 1:19:43That was a great callback. Yeah. And then they all nuts,
- 1:19:46they all eat nuts together because you know, they went and got nuts.
- 1:19:49Yeah, it's awesome. So I enjoyed it. It's a good movie.
- 1:19:58All right. I think we lost our audience. Is anybody still Anybody's still
- 1:20:02watching? People are talking about like Adam West and all that. Yeah,
- 1:20:05okay, people are all right, all r yeah cool? All right,
- 1:20:12Well, I guess that's it for the show already next week. Okay,
- 1:20:16thanks for stopping by everyone, all right, Daniel, good to see you,
- 1:20:19talk a man. Bye.
