- 0:08Speaker 1: Welcome to the Favorite the Podcast. I'm Chad Milman. Hosting
- 0:21Speaker 1: the show today is black Jack Fletcher. Oh that matt Ford.
- 0:28Speaker 1: Matt Ford just does a great job with that. He
- 0:30Speaker 1: sounds he does a better Chad than Chad does. Um.
- 0:33Speaker 1: Chad is on vacation, I believe, somewhere in the south
- 0:37Speaker 1: of France this week, so he doesn't love all of
- 0:41Speaker 1: you enough to be here. I, on the other hand,
- 0:43Speaker 1: just wrapped up seven hours worth of travel through airplanes
- 0:47Speaker 1: and trains and came right here because I love you
- 0:50Speaker 1: all of you far more than Chad does. So suck
- 0:52Speaker 1: at Chad. Um. And we've our show to do today,
- 0:56Speaker 1: so let's uh, let's do it right. Um. We've got
- 0:59Speaker 1: the math susters going on right that. The Masters, that's
- 1:03Speaker 1: the name of it, um happening this week. Apparently it's
- 1:07Speaker 1: a big golf tournament. And joining me today is the
- 1:10Speaker 1: only person I would trust for advice on betting golf,
- 1:14Speaker 1: for watching golf. Apparently he's in the middle of a
- 1:17Speaker 1: zoo in Augusta, Georgia. It's Jason selbel Black. Two things here.
- 1:24Speaker 1: First of all, thanks for having me on. Second of all,
- 1:26Speaker 1: I can't believe Chad would miss this, I'm very disappointed
- 1:30Speaker 1: in him. If you call this a zoo, you get
- 1:34Speaker 1: kicked out. So though I'm only those is your words
- 1:36Speaker 1: and not mine. They have some very specific things that
- 1:38Speaker 1: you can uh stay around here. That's not one of them,
- 1:41Speaker 1: I think. And the fourth thing is, let's get this
- 1:44Speaker 1: thing role. And I know you're not a huge golf guy,
- 1:46Speaker 1: but at the end of this phone call, by the
- 1:48Speaker 1: end of this podcast, I absolutely believe that you're going
- 1:52Speaker 1: to be a golf expert and know what to bet
- 1:55Speaker 1: on this week do well. That is a a bold
- 1:57Speaker 1: statement and it's full of confidence and ravattos things I appreciate.
- 2:01Speaker 1: So um, let's start out with I think what the
- 2:04Speaker 1: question that's on everyone's mind for this Masters is ken
- 2:09Speaker 1: Fred Couples get to wind? Uh no, next question. He
- 2:15Speaker 1: generally plays well in the first round. He does play well.
- 2:18Speaker 1: He does play well, usually plays well in the first round.
- 2:21Speaker 1: I believe it was last year, two years ago. He's
- 2:24Speaker 1: playing a medical marveled effect that he was giving speeches here.
- 2:28Speaker 1: They all do, especially the older guys, do some corporate
- 2:30Speaker 1: events and make some side money out here and do
- 2:33Speaker 1: some other things. News I heard he had spoken to
- 2:36Speaker 1: a corporate event where he said, literally, I my back
- 2:40Speaker 1: is wrapped up. I can't touch my toes. I mean,
- 2:43Speaker 1: I feel awful. I don't want to play golf other
- 2:46Speaker 1: than it's the Masters and I have to go out
- 2:48Speaker 1: here and give it a shot. And he played really
- 2:50Speaker 1: well for a few rounds. So no, he can't win.
- 2:53Speaker 1: In fact, he's not even my favorite of the old guys.
- 2:56Speaker 1: I guess you're gonna group them, but um, you know,
- 3:00Speaker 1: he keeps plugging away every single year. At some point
- 3:02Speaker 1: he's just gonna give it up. At some point he's
- 3:04Speaker 1: just gonna say, in my back hurts too much, I
- 3:06Speaker 1: can't do this anymore as much like being here. But
- 3:09Speaker 1: he's gonna give it a shop this week. So who's
- 3:10Speaker 1: your favorite old guy? DJ Sing coming off the sixth
- 3:15Speaker 1: place finish at the Honda Classic just about two months ago.
- 3:19Speaker 1: He's actually playing decent golf. Everyone goes Fred Couples. Fred
- 3:24Speaker 1: Couples with sentimental pick. Bernard Wannger is probably the historic pick.
- 3:29Speaker 1: He's played really well here over the last few years.
- 3:31Speaker 1: Wanders now, I belave fifty nine, sixty years old, maybe
- 3:34Speaker 1: even older, getting up there in age. VJ Sing is
- 3:37Speaker 1: a guy who still plays pretty y regularly on the
- 3:40Speaker 1: PGA tour even though he's five. But he can still
- 3:45Speaker 1: hang with these guys just a little bit every once
- 3:47Speaker 1: in a while. So if you're going just one old guy,
- 3:49Speaker 1: and I know it's kind of a weird place to start,
- 3:51Speaker 1: but you're going one old guy out there above fifty,
- 3:54Speaker 1: I think my guy all right, So there we go.
- 3:56Speaker 1: If you're looking for an older player. VJ. Singh Um,
- 4:00Speaker 1: let's take a look at some of the younger the
- 4:02Speaker 1: younger bucks out there, Jason Um, give me give me
- 4:05Speaker 1: three or four guys that you're taking a look at
- 4:07Speaker 1: that maybe you know I'm not talking about Zack Johnson here,
- 4:10Speaker 1: can give me some guys you're looking at that you
- 4:12Speaker 1: think maybe you're shaping up to have a good week
- 4:14Speaker 1: at AUGUSTA. Yeah, I love the prop to take the winner,
- 4:17Speaker 1: the outright winner this week at under the age of
- 4:20Speaker 1: fifty years old, so you can get that one hammer it.
- 4:23Speaker 1: I really like that. The first time I'm looking at
- 4:26Speaker 1: is Ricky Fowler. First of all, black jack. I've got
- 4:29Speaker 1: a hard and fast rule when we get to the Masters,
- 4:32Speaker 1: and that is has to have been playing well for
- 4:36Speaker 1: the first three months of the year. You can't come
- 4:38Speaker 1: in here and find your game. There's no surprises. Even
- 4:41Speaker 1: if you didn't pick Patrick Read last year, that's fine,
- 4:44Speaker 1: I understand it. But he was top ten in each
- 4:48Speaker 1: of his last three starts coming into this tournament. So
- 4:51Speaker 1: you look at it, you go back and say, you know,
- 4:53Speaker 1: I probably should have seen that coming. A little bit
- 4:56Speaker 1: the same thing this year. I'm looking at the guys
- 4:58Speaker 1: who have a handful of top ten is already in
- 5:00Speaker 1: the first three months. So I mentioned Ricky Fowler's name
- 5:03Speaker 1: there winning Phoenix to the second place of this tournament
- 5:06Speaker 1: last year. It's the convergence. I always look at this,
- 5:09Speaker 1: the convergence of recent form and past history on this
- 5:13Speaker 1: golf course. Ricky Fowler has everything that I'm looking for.
- 5:17Speaker 1: So he's got of leading off my list right there
- 5:20Speaker 1: after him, justin Thomas uh Is strokes gained approach average.
- 5:26Speaker 1: I know, I know you're probably not really for strokes gained.
- 5:31Speaker 1: I told you to talk to me like a six
- 5:33Speaker 1: year old, all right, okay, okay. When he when he
- 5:36Speaker 1: swings the club, the club face on the ball makes
- 5:39Speaker 1: it go really far and straight, work for you, okay,
- 5:43Speaker 1: And it goes and the ball fits the fly really
- 5:46Speaker 1: close to the hole when he hits it there, and
- 5:48Speaker 1: in fact, the ball when he hits it goes closer
- 5:51Speaker 1: to the hole than when anybody else fits it. Really
- 5:56Speaker 1: really good at golf. Yeah, is that better for him? Okay?
- 6:01Speaker 1: I feel like I'm talking like a four year old,
- 6:02Speaker 1: a six year old. I wanna not dumb it down
- 6:05Speaker 1: so much. But a great ball striker. I like him. Okay,
- 6:09Speaker 1: So let me ask you a question. You mentioned that
- 6:11Speaker 1: you know you don't find your game at Augusta. You
- 6:12Speaker 1: kind of have to be playing well in order to
- 6:15Speaker 1: be able to compete there. Rory McElroy's playing as well
- 6:18Speaker 1: as anyone in the world right now, is he not?
- 6:21Speaker 1: So what do you think about him? Now? He's got
- 6:22Speaker 1: his his little his little uh, you know, peccadillos over
- 6:26Speaker 1: at Augusta, overcome those. I love Rory's game, I love
- 6:32Speaker 1: the way he's been playing. I like him here a lot.
- 6:36Speaker 1: But there are a couple of big factors here. First
- 6:38Speaker 1: of all, in the past decade, no pre tournament favorite
- 6:42Speaker 1: has won the Green jacket. So I think every year
- 6:45Speaker 1: it feels like we come into this thing, whether it's
- 6:47Speaker 1: Ory or Jordan's Feet or tiger Woods or whatever. The
- 6:51Speaker 1: hot guy of the moment is we all come here
- 6:54Speaker 1: and say that, of course he's gonna win. He's playing
- 6:57Speaker 1: the best and is the biggest tournament. He's definitely gonna win.
- 7:00Speaker 1: Never happens. Chalk does not cash at Augusta unless it's
- 7:03Speaker 1: Tiger Woods and it's early two thousands that he's playing
- 7:07Speaker 1: his best golf of his life. But I don't see
- 7:09Speaker 1: that happening this week because Rory's got some demons he
- 7:12Speaker 1: needs to exercise here. Obviously, we've seen it in the past.
- 7:17Speaker 1: Last year he said he's playing not to lose instead
- 7:20Speaker 1: of playing to win. Ed quinched a career Grand Slam
- 7:24Speaker 1: win all four major championships with a win here this week.
- 7:27Speaker 1: I think that's so much pressure on him. I do
- 7:29Speaker 1: think it will happen at some point, but quite frankly,
- 7:32Speaker 1: black check, we thought Ernie Els would have a bunch
- 7:35Speaker 1: of Masters wins by the end of his career as well,
- 7:37Speaker 1: and uh, that never happened. So I don't think it's
- 7:41Speaker 1: gonna happen for Rory mcgory this week. You go out
- 7:43Speaker 1: a place of bet on him. My favorite fan is
- 7:45Speaker 1: probably a top ten bet, which is probably just about
- 7:48Speaker 1: even money for him right now. Maybe get it a
- 7:51Speaker 1: little bit on the plus side. Uh, and he can
- 7:54Speaker 1: get some value there, but I don't like him as
- 7:56Speaker 1: an outright winner this week. All right now, Jason, I
- 7:58Speaker 1: want to ask you about one of the guys you
- 7:59Speaker 1: mention and as a pick you had, and that's Ricky Fowler.
- 8:02Speaker 1: Rickey Fowler is known for his incredible golf but also
- 8:05Speaker 1: his wild fashioned sense. Some of the clothing that he
- 8:09Speaker 1: wears out there on the course can be eclectic to
- 8:12Speaker 1: say the least. Now, what I want to know from you, Jason,
- 8:15Speaker 1: as a man of the golf world, a savant of
- 8:18Speaker 1: the sport, is does the clothing help him in the
- 8:23Speaker 1: sense that if you look good, you feel good, play good,
- 8:25Speaker 1: Dion Sanders? Or is it a detriment have a couple
- 8:29Speaker 1: of bad shots? Nobody wants to be getting their ass
- 8:31Speaker 1: kicked wearing orange pants. So is the sexiness of the
- 8:36Speaker 1: wardrobe a detriment or a benefit? First of all, Blockchack.
- 8:42Speaker 1: When you're playing golf and I know you don't play
- 8:44Speaker 1: that much. Oh, they always helps because if you're not
- 8:46Speaker 1: wearing any it's uh, things getting the way. So do
- 8:50Speaker 1: you want to have clothes on? As far as what
- 8:53Speaker 1: clothes they are wait wait, hold on, was that just
- 8:55Speaker 1: a Dick reference? No, no, no, I wouldn't do that.
- 8:59Speaker 1: I'm much super pressed. You can translate it as that,
- 9:02Speaker 1: but I would never ever go that way. Uh they do.
- 9:06Speaker 1: This is my least favorite part of Master's season, his
- 9:09Speaker 1: Master's scripting season. So instead of hey, let's see what
- 9:12Speaker 1: Ricky Fowler is wearing on the first piece of Gusts
- 9:15Speaker 1: on Thursday morning, is whom the pr people will send
- 9:19Speaker 1: out uh scripting of what he's wearing and put it
- 9:22Speaker 1: all over Twitter weeks ahead of time. And it's got
- 9:25Speaker 1: to the point where it used to be Tiger and
- 9:27Speaker 1: Ricky and maybe Rory. Now you can go online. I
- 9:30Speaker 1: saw the other day Brandon Grace has his clothes scripted
- 9:33Speaker 1: for the next four days, what he's going to wear
- 9:36Speaker 1: at Gusta National. Exactly. I've never looked at what Brandon
- 9:40Speaker 1: Grace has worn ever before. I'm not gonna look at
- 9:43Speaker 1: it this week. I certainly don't want to look at
- 9:45Speaker 1: it a week ahead of time to figure out what
- 9:47Speaker 1: he's gonna be wearing. So I can go buy it
- 9:50Speaker 1: and sit on my couch and root for him while
- 9:52Speaker 1: he plays in the Masters. And I can't imagine anyone
- 9:55Speaker 1: does that. So clothes don't matter. I just don't care.
- 9:59Speaker 1: I don't care what these guys are wearing. It doesn't
- 10:01Speaker 1: factor into anything they do. I wish the pr folks
- 10:04Speaker 1: out there work for all the companies and need to
- 10:06Speaker 1: feel important. Uh could find some other way of feeling important.
- 10:10Speaker 1: Because you're talking about scripting. Yeah, I'm kind of talking
- 10:14Speaker 1: about velt, you know what. And that makes me feel
- 10:17Speaker 1: so much better about my take on this. Alright, Jason,
- 10:23Speaker 1: so let me ask you one more question before we
- 10:25Speaker 1: let you go here. You're down there at Augusta. You've
- 10:28Speaker 1: seen these guys, you've been following this closely. Is there
- 10:32Speaker 1: anyone outside of those three or four you gave us
- 10:35Speaker 1: someone kind of a longer shot down the board that
- 10:37Speaker 1: you think maybe is playing with the confidence, the skill
- 10:40Speaker 1: at this time of year to maybe pull the upset
- 10:43Speaker 1: of Augusta again, black Shack. I'm going with guys who
- 10:47Speaker 1: have played already, played well already this year. I don't
- 10:50Speaker 1: think there's going to be a surprise. I think that
- 10:53Speaker 1: if you're paying even a little bit of attention to
- 10:55Speaker 1: guys who have been on leaderboards, you're gonna be on it.
- 10:58Speaker 1: Ian Poulter's guy. Four top sins already this year, the
- 11:02Speaker 1: most he's ever had going into the Masters, and he's
- 11:04Speaker 1: played well here before. I like Ian Poulter. I like
- 11:07Speaker 1: Mark Leishman, who's just seems to fly under the radar,
- 11:11Speaker 1: keeps getting better and better. Matt Kucher has been fantastic
- 11:14Speaker 1: so far this year. I know a lot of people
- 11:16Speaker 1: don't like him right now. He stiffs his daddy's and
- 11:18Speaker 1: he doesn't give bucks the Sergio Garcia and you know,
- 11:22Speaker 1: there's all sorts of controversies out there as at the
- 11:25Speaker 1: Action Network Golf podcast. Yeah it was because mine but
- 11:30Speaker 1: sleeves once five percent of the royalties. So I want
- 11:32Speaker 1: to help him out a little bit, kid, a couple
- 11:34Speaker 1: of bucks his way. But uh yeah, so uh, Matt
- 11:38Speaker 1: Coucher's the guy who's played well. So those are some
- 11:39Speaker 1: names that are not necessarily the favorites, but guys that
- 11:43Speaker 1: I think have played well already this year. It should
- 11:45Speaker 1: continue playing well this week. Well. You may have controversies,
- 11:48Speaker 1: but people still like him better than the Impoulter. That
- 11:51Speaker 1: guy's a real day from what I hear. I mean
- 11:53Speaker 1: who as a casual observer of the game of golf, Jack,
- 11:58Speaker 1: I give you Matt Kucher and Poulter, Bubba Watson, Sergio Garcia,
- 12:03Speaker 1: all lots in the room together. Which one do you,
- 12:06Speaker 1: uh do you go after? And you know it's uh puter.
- 12:10Speaker 1: Poulter first of all, not American. I know some of
- 12:13Speaker 1: the other ones who are not American either, um, but
- 12:16Speaker 1: I've read the most negative things about him on ESPN
- 12:19Speaker 1: dot COM's homepage, So I'm gonna go with him. Bubba
- 12:23Speaker 1: escapes because he's American. Sergio, I don't know. Sergio seems
- 12:28Speaker 1: kind of harmless to me. Maybe he gets a little
- 12:30Speaker 1: uh uptight every now and then, but I don't really
- 12:32Speaker 1: have any deal with him. And Couture. I thought the
- 12:34Speaker 1: Caddy thing was overblown, to be honest with you. So yeah,
- 12:38Speaker 1: it's definitely Ian Poulter, Dick. That's fair. I wanted I
- 12:43Speaker 1: want to get your take on that. Being the guy
- 12:45Speaker 1: outside the game I've I can tell you I've known
- 12:47Speaker 1: all those guys for years, and I've had really good
- 12:50Speaker 1: interactions with them and really bad interactions with all of
- 12:53Speaker 1: those guys. I'm right though, it's Palter, right, but I'm
- 12:59Speaker 1: right it's Poulter. Yeah, he's the revel of the game.
- 13:05Speaker 1: I know it. I know it. He's the Revel of
- 13:07Speaker 1: the bunch Holper's rosel. That's uh man, I can see.
- 13:13Speaker 1: Vel got a lot of people, lots the man. He
- 13:16Speaker 1: wants people love him to s people trying to love him,
- 13:19Speaker 1: he wants them to hate him. So yeah, that's Bubba
- 13:22Speaker 1: Watson in a nutshell right there. All right, I'm gonna
- 13:25Speaker 1: start calling Revel Bubba around the office. Oh. I love that.
- 13:28Speaker 1: That's gonna stick. Ye. All right, Jason, go have fun
- 13:31Speaker 1: and a gust to eat some pimento cheese and uh,
- 13:34Speaker 1: we'll see you soon, buddy, going to the Pomelo cheese.
- 13:38Speaker 1: When here's a little white hack for you, Blackjack, when
- 13:40Speaker 1: you come here and I can't believe you're not here
- 13:42Speaker 1: hanging with me, But get the egg salat sandwich. You
- 13:44Speaker 1: open it up. You steal some bacon from somewhere. I
- 13:47Speaker 1: don't care where you have to get it from. Somebody,
- 13:50Speaker 1: get some Christie bacon, throw it on the egg salad sandwich.
- 13:53Speaker 1: If you get the pimento cheese sald you know you do,
- 13:55Speaker 1: you give it somebody else and tell him, hey, here's
- 13:57Speaker 1: the pimento cheese sandwich. You should have this because we're
- 14:00Speaker 1: gonna taste it alright, Jason, have a good weekend. Brother,
- 14:06Speaker 1: We'll talk to you all right. Joining me next on
- 14:09Speaker 1: the Favorites is the friendliest Teddy Bear I know, there
- 14:15Speaker 1: he is, there's that laugh, and the brother of all
- 14:18Speaker 1: world offensive lineman Mitchell Schwartz. Jeff Schwartz, Jeff, how we
- 14:22Speaker 1: doing today, Buddy? I am fantastic. I'm glad to be
- 14:25Speaker 1: back on my favorite podcast of all time with you
- 14:28Speaker 1: and uh, alrighty talk some football man. It feels like,
- 14:31Speaker 1: obviously with the final four going on to start a
- 14:33Speaker 1: major league baseball that we have forgotten that the draft
- 14:36Speaker 1: is like two weeks away, three weeks away. So it's
- 14:39Speaker 1: getting your fast. It's coming, it's coming, and we've got
- 14:41Speaker 1: a lot to talk about because the NFL has really
- 14:44Speaker 1: become a twelve month a year sports Jeff, Um, let's
- 14:47Speaker 1: start with a little bit of the of the sizzle
- 14:49Speaker 1: and then we'll get to the stake later. Um. Antonio
- 14:53Speaker 1: Brown and Juju Smith Schuster just seemed to really not
- 14:57Speaker 1: like one another anymore. I mean, they can't stop going
- 15:00Speaker 1: added on Twitter. What what are your thoughts on this
- 15:02Speaker 1: whole online melee? Well, it's not really Juju it's Antonio Brown.
- 15:07Speaker 1: And and look, I have said from the beginning that,
- 15:11Speaker 1: you know, when the whole thing came out with with
- 15:12Speaker 1: Big Ben, Antonio Brown said, look, look, guys, I know
- 15:15Speaker 1: it's easy to jump on Big Ben. And a lot
- 15:17Speaker 1: of people did. Right, big Ben's a cancer, He's a
- 15:20Speaker 1: terrible leader. He might be not a great person and
- 15:23Speaker 1: not a great leader. But everyone absolved Antonio Brown of
- 15:27Speaker 1: of of of all almost almost givings. Antonio Brown did
- 15:32Speaker 1: not show up to practice Friday and Saturday of a
- 15:36Speaker 1: must win game. We can showed up Sunday expecting to play.
- 15:38Speaker 1: He's not gonna play, all right, so he basically sabotaged
- 15:42Speaker 1: himself and the team, and that can now I want
- 15:45Speaker 1: anyways because of this, right um, and this entire time,
- 15:48Speaker 1: everyone was like, it's Big Ben's fault. And I was like, guys,
- 15:51Speaker 1: just let's let's see a playoff. But I kind of
- 15:52Speaker 1: think Antonio Brown is kind of, you know, kind of
- 15:54Speaker 1: been the problem here, and we're seeing now that he's
- 15:57Speaker 1: a huge problem. And I think we are seeing why
- 16:01Speaker 1: the Steelers trained him away for what a lot of
- 16:02Speaker 1: people thought was nothing. Right, you know, it was a
- 16:05Speaker 1: third and a fifth and you know and um and
- 16:09Speaker 1: you know, obviously they take a twenty one million dollar capit.
- 16:11Speaker 1: They did that because Antonio Brown is a d bag.
- 16:14Speaker 1: And if you think that, um, he's acting like this
- 16:18Speaker 1: in public, now imagine what he was behind the scenes
- 16:21Speaker 1: when there's no cameras, when the bickering doesn't get out
- 16:26Speaker 1: Juju Smith. This whole thing started, by the way, because
- 16:28Speaker 1: Antonio Brown tweet out something. But you can't have emotion
- 16:31Speaker 1: on social media. Someone replied to him showing Juju Smith
- 16:35Speaker 1: winning the team MVP, and this was reported as being
- 16:38Speaker 1: a problem for Antonio Brown that Juju Smith was voted
- 16:41Speaker 1: the team MVP. He then calls out Juju for fumbling
- 16:45Speaker 1: and um in a late season game that cost them.
- 16:48Speaker 1: You know that was against what the Patriots. Right when
- 16:50Speaker 1: he fumbled was at the Patriots or they want Saints Saints?
- 16:54Speaker 1: I think it was the Saints game. He fumbled in
- 16:56Speaker 1: the Saints game. Um. And but Antonio Brown, you didn't
- 17:00Speaker 1: show up for Week seventeen. You did something that was
- 17:04Speaker 1: voluntarily of you, I mean of your control, right, You
- 17:07Speaker 1: voluntarily did not show up to practice that week, did
- 17:11Speaker 1: not call back your coaches or your teammates, tried to
- 17:14Speaker 1: play Sunday. Of course you're not gonna play you. Juju
- 17:16Speaker 1: is trying to make a play, right, I mean, fumbles
- 17:18Speaker 1: happened in the course of a game, and the Juju
- 17:21Speaker 1: answer by saying, dude, I've never taken a shot at
- 17:23Speaker 1: you man, And and to this and to this date,
- 17:25Speaker 1: I've yet to see a Steeler, a Steeler front office member,
- 17:29Speaker 1: anyone taking a shot Antonio Brown. I don't know why
- 17:31Speaker 1: he's being so petty. They gave him what he wanted.
- 17:33Speaker 1: They didn't have to trade him. They didn't have to
- 17:35Speaker 1: do it. They could have kept them on the rosters
- 17:37Speaker 1: under contract. Unlike Levian Bell. If Antonio Brown did not
- 17:40Speaker 1: show up, the Steelers could find him like they they
- 17:43Speaker 1: had he had to leverage over him. But but they
- 17:45Speaker 1: try him anyways. And then today it's Monday right now.
- 17:48Speaker 1: Um he tweets out or instagrams no, uh, screenshots actually um.
- 17:55Speaker 1: A message of Juju sent him while Juju was at
- 17:57Speaker 1: usc saying like, hey man, love your game, just trying
- 18:00Speaker 1: to get better. You get any tips for me? Like
- 18:03Speaker 1: why why is that a bad thing? That's a great thing.
- 18:06Speaker 1: A young player is asking a professional to get better.
- 18:09Speaker 1: Like I would love if a young offensive linement sent
- 18:11Speaker 1: me a message like, Yo, how do I get better?
- 18:13Speaker 1: And so a B comes off in the situation is yeah,
- 18:18Speaker 1: come yeah, talk to him, Mitch. Um, he just a
- 18:21Speaker 1: Tony Brown comes off for worse words. I and I
- 18:23Speaker 1: said this on the pod. I think I said on
- 18:25Speaker 1: the pod, the live pod. I've said I'll take that bet. Um.
- 18:28Speaker 1: The Steelers are good. When the NFC North the ANFC
- 18:30Speaker 1: North next year. They're still extremely talented team with a
- 18:33Speaker 1: Hall of Fame quarterback, a veteran offensive line. They do
- 18:36Speaker 1: have weapons on offense that ab has now gone. Their
- 18:38Speaker 1: defense continues to get better, still to fund a middle linebacker. Um,
- 18:42Speaker 1: but they improved the season went on. They had pass rushers.
- 18:45Speaker 1: Give me a give me a Steelers team that's piste
- 18:47Speaker 1: off Man. They're gonna have so much motivation this year.
- 18:49Speaker 1: People counting them out, Um, and I think this is
- 18:52Speaker 1: only going to benefit them and look good. The Raiders
- 18:54Speaker 1: have this headache now the Raiders are gonna be a
- 18:56Speaker 1: mess this year. Well, you do make a really good
- 18:58Speaker 1: point about the Steelers, Jeff, And that's if you look
- 19:00Speaker 1: at them over the last couple of years, they tend
- 19:02Speaker 1: to have played their competition like that. There's not a
- 19:04Speaker 1: good favorite. They're very good when they're catching some points,
- 19:08Speaker 1: and they're gonna catch points more often than they having
- 19:10Speaker 1: a long time this year. So you've kind of talked
- 19:12Speaker 1: me into this with you. They have to fix they
- 19:14Speaker 1: have to fix that problem of um of playing down
- 19:18Speaker 1: town opponents. And I don't know how they fix that
- 19:21Speaker 1: other than just preparing better and you know, during the week,
- 19:24Speaker 1: and that might you know that that's a problem. I
- 19:25Speaker 1: think Toma has to figure out and Big Ben has
- 19:27Speaker 1: to figure out because you know, they you know, I
- 19:29Speaker 1: don't remember the staff, but something like you know when
- 19:33Speaker 1: when a team's favorite on the road about like touchdown
- 19:36Speaker 1: you know or more. The Steelers are like the worst
- 19:38Speaker 1: the NFL over the last x amount of years. You know,
- 19:40Speaker 1: it's not football seas. I don't have to stat right
- 19:42Speaker 1: right in front of me right now, but whatever it is,
- 19:44Speaker 1: I mean, they they they're they're terrible against against um,
- 19:48Speaker 1: you know, opponents on the road is a big favorite,
- 19:50Speaker 1: which I don't know, it's tough to win and you know,
- 19:52Speaker 1: you typically want a bit the home dog. But still,
- 19:54Speaker 1: I mean, the Steelers are underperformed, so um, they have
- 19:57Speaker 1: to figure out what it to be better at that.
- 19:59Speaker 1: All right, Well, let's move on from Pittsburgh and talk
- 20:01Speaker 1: about the number one pick in this year's NFL draft.
- 20:04Speaker 1: That's the Arizona Cardinals. Right now, I think everyone in
- 20:08Speaker 1: the known universe expects him to take Kyler Murray number one. Uh.
- 20:12Speaker 1: Cliff Kingsbury and Kyler Murray seemed to have a very
- 20:14Speaker 1: close relationship, seems to fit his system real Well, where
- 20:18Speaker 1: does that leave Josh Rosen, last year's first round pick
- 20:21Speaker 1: by the Cardinals. So I said this about two months
- 20:24Speaker 1: ago that he was going to Arizona. Everyone thought I
- 20:26Speaker 1: was crazy. Um, he's going to Colmers, going to Arizona.
- 20:29Speaker 1: It's happening. So where does that leave Josh Rosen? So
- 20:32Speaker 1: he reported today Monday to um, you know, to Arizona,
- 20:37Speaker 1: like you should have an offseason program. There's no guarantee
- 20:40Speaker 1: he's gonna be traded and looked, they can still dropt
- 20:43Speaker 1: Kyler Murray and and not trade him like he's cheap
- 20:47Speaker 1: as a backup. Now that the issue I think that
- 20:49Speaker 1: I would have is that is I don't think that
- 20:51Speaker 1: that Rosen fits what what what? What? Click? Anybody wants
- 20:55Speaker 1: to do. So I would trade him and you get
- 20:58Speaker 1: some masters him, they're not getting your first round pick.
- 21:00Speaker 1: In my opinion, UM, teams that the three teams have
- 21:03Speaker 1: been reported are the Patriots, the Giants, the Redskins. Mostly
- 21:07Speaker 1: in those makes in charges a little bit. Those make
- 21:09Speaker 1: a lot of sense. UM. I do think the best
- 21:12Speaker 1: pick you might be able to get us thirty two,
- 21:13Speaker 1: which obviously the first round pick from New England. But
- 21:16Speaker 1: in those situations, I think they are great fits for
- 21:18Speaker 1: Josh Rosen. I like Josh Rosen. I think he could
- 21:20Speaker 1: play any of those places. All those places, by the way,
- 21:23Speaker 1: he would most likely sit for a year or two. Um,
- 21:27Speaker 1: except Washington where if they don't, if they don't trade
- 21:30Speaker 1: Keenan in the trade, which they might do, you have
- 21:32Speaker 1: to play because Alex Smith. Unfortunately it's hurt. UM. I
- 21:35Speaker 1: think Rose is gonna be great wherever he goes. If
- 21:37Speaker 1: I were the Giants, I make this trade at a heartbeat. UM,
- 21:40Speaker 1: I would take a pass rusher at six, a pass
- 21:43Speaker 1: rusher or best player available seventeen and trade one of
- 21:46Speaker 1: your second round picks for Josh Rosen. Then you have
- 21:49Speaker 1: your back. You have your backup, and unlike drafting someone
- 21:53Speaker 1: at six or seventeen, UM, you the pressure is not
- 21:59Speaker 1: as as strang to want to play him right away,
- 22:03Speaker 1: unlike if you draft someone at six, the fan basically
- 22:05Speaker 1: want to play him right away. So I I love
- 22:08Speaker 1: the idea of training for Rosen. I think it gets
- 22:10Speaker 1: done close to the draft. They probably won't announce it
- 22:13Speaker 1: until really close to the draft because you want to
- 22:15Speaker 1: have the intrigue of who goes number one for your telecast.
- 22:18Speaker 1: But I think this is happening. Okay, Now you mentioned
- 22:21Speaker 1: about the Giants potentially taking quarterbacks at six or seventeen.
- 22:26Speaker 1: Who who do you think of the next quarterbacks off
- 22:28Speaker 1: the board, Jeff, Because for a long time, I think
- 22:30Speaker 1: we all assumed Dwayne Haskins was the guy. But now
- 22:34Speaker 1: you're hearing a lot about Drew lock and Nathan Jones
- 22:37Speaker 1: and what what where do you think the quarterbacks fall?
- 22:41Speaker 1: The dominoes fall after Kyler Murray? So every year we
- 22:44Speaker 1: have this where you know, quarterback one, quarterback drops, one,
- 22:47Speaker 1: quarterback rises, and right now the dropper seems to be
- 22:51Speaker 1: Dwayne Haskins. Um, And there's a couple weeks for that one.
- 22:53Speaker 1: He's not very mobile in the pocket on a contract
- 22:56Speaker 1: of Stephen A. Smith. He does not run very well. Um,
- 22:59Speaker 1: And I think that's a little concerning for people. He
- 23:02Speaker 1: throws off of a bad platform of times. His feet
- 23:05Speaker 1: aren't really kind of set where they have to be
- 23:06Speaker 1: at certain times. Um, and you those a lot a
- 23:10Speaker 1: lot of open guys. But I like Hasking and he's
- 23:12Speaker 1: a big kid, um, and then he can throw the
- 23:14Speaker 1: ball well, Drew Lock. A lot of people are high
- 23:17Speaker 1: and Drew Peter King today and it's not you don't
- 23:20Speaker 1: call a mock draft kind of like what I'm hearing
- 23:22Speaker 1: and where where I think guys should go hes Drew
- 23:24Speaker 1: Lock six to the to the Giants. Drew Lock. Big arm.
- 23:29Speaker 1: I worry when I hear the thing big arm, because
- 23:33Speaker 1: big arm to me just is a way too say
- 23:36Speaker 1: he's not very accurate, but he has a good arm,
- 23:38Speaker 1: and maybe he can be accurately. Most of the time
- 23:40Speaker 1: we hear with quarterbacks that are really good, Like the
- 23:42Speaker 1: number one thing we hear is accuracy, right, you know,
- 23:44Speaker 1: Kyler Murray good arm, but throws the ball very completes
- 23:48Speaker 1: a lot of passes at a at a high rate.
- 23:50Speaker 1: Good ball. You know, when I when I hear big arm,
- 23:52Speaker 1: that's like Josh Allen to be big arm, whoop do
- 23:54Speaker 1: you do big arm? Like how you throw the ball
- 23:57Speaker 1: in tight windows, how do you lead guys in their
- 23:59Speaker 1: their offensive Zuri's atrocious and um he wasn't able to
- 24:02Speaker 1: read defenses very well. So this concerns with with Drew Lock.
- 24:05Speaker 1: I want to just one thing and it's something that
- 24:07Speaker 1: just listen to this. Listen what I'm about to say.
- 24:10Speaker 1: It does make sense. And just when you talk about
- 24:12Speaker 1: mock drafts, just remember this. I had this argument last
- 24:14Speaker 1: year with the Browns, Giants fans. Giants fans, they think
- 24:18Speaker 1: they can take a quarterback at seventeen, and now I'll
- 24:21Speaker 1: solve their problems. No, no, no, If you like a
- 24:23Speaker 1: guy at seventeen to be your your future franchise quarterback,
- 24:26Speaker 1: take him at six. Right quarterback is the most important
- 24:28Speaker 1: position all sports. If you like a guy that much
- 24:31Speaker 1: to be your frantise quarterback, you take him first, first
- 24:34Speaker 1: and foremost. You worry about something else. The seventeen. You
- 24:36Speaker 1: cannot run the risk if you like Drew Lock or
- 24:39Speaker 1: Jones or Haskins of him fall him not falling a seventeen.
- 24:43Speaker 1: If you've identified that is your guy, go get your guy.
- 24:46Speaker 1: We saw the Chiefs do this. The Texans will get
- 24:48Speaker 1: their guy. The Bears will get their guy. Go get
- 24:51Speaker 1: your guy. If you don't like anybody, don't draft a
- 24:54Speaker 1: quarterback at six or seventeen. I think it's so bad.
- 24:56Speaker 1: You know Browns fans last year, Well, we can take
- 24:58Speaker 1: Sake on one and then someone else at no. No,
- 25:01Speaker 1: go get your quarterback. Get Baker Mayfield. Right, it's franchise quarterback,
- 25:05Speaker 1: far more important. We see with the Browns now the
- 25:07Speaker 1: excitement is because of the town, but also Baker Mayfield.
- 25:10Speaker 1: The Giants have no excitement because of Eli, not because
- 25:13Speaker 1: Sa Kuan is there. Right, we know Sec one is good.
- 25:15Speaker 1: It doesn't matter. So go get your quarterback and six
- 25:17Speaker 1: and the Giants a quarterback. Do you think they will
- 25:20Speaker 1: like a quarterback to take No. I don't think so.
- 25:24Speaker 1: I don't think they're gonna do any I don't think
- 25:25Speaker 1: they're gonna do anything to rock the boat with Eli.
- 25:29Speaker 1: What's the deal there, Jeff? I mean, listen, you were
- 25:31Speaker 1: in that locker room. You you were part of this team.
- 25:34Speaker 1: You know Eli, you guys were great friends. What is
- 25:38Speaker 1: what's the deal? He's thirty seven years old and he
- 25:40Speaker 1: hasn't played really well in several years, Like, why why
- 25:43Speaker 1: are we still doing this song? And dance. Well, I mean, look,
- 25:47Speaker 1: he one of them two Super bowls. Um, you know
- 25:49Speaker 1: they're very appreciative of that, of course, I mean, why
- 25:51Speaker 1: why wouldn't you, Eliz I forgot to tell Ben mcul
- 25:54Speaker 1: Do that Eli is great in the locker room, he's
- 25:58Speaker 1: great in the community, right, A great a bass for
- 26:00Speaker 1: the Giants. And there's a lot of nostalgia there. And
- 26:02Speaker 1: I think they've gone to a point now where it's
- 26:04Speaker 1: it's too much like they have to they have to
- 26:08Speaker 1: cut faminists. The Colts with paid Manning, he was putting
- 26:12Speaker 1: at a high level one year, hurt his neck. Alright,
- 26:14Speaker 1: see you later get Andrew luck Um. Last year the
- 26:17Speaker 1: Giant showed done that with Eli, got Sam Donald and
- 26:19Speaker 1: moved on Um. But and I and I don't think
- 26:23Speaker 1: there's guarantee they're going to trade for Rosen or draft
- 26:25Speaker 1: quarterback this year and then wait untill next year. But
- 26:27Speaker 1: what if they you know, what if they're what if
- 26:29Speaker 1: they're six and ten next year? You know they have
- 26:31Speaker 1: a couple of lucky breaks that are drafting ninth. Well
- 26:35Speaker 1: two is gonna be gone, and I don't think two
- 26:36Speaker 1: is gonna be a great pro Anyways, Uh, Estan's probably gone,
- 26:39Speaker 1: Herbert's probably gone, and from they're all gone by nine.
- 26:42Speaker 1: You should have drafted Donald last year and started the reset.
- 26:45Speaker 1: And for whatever reason, they don't want to do it.
- 26:47Speaker 1: They're being stubborn about it. And this idea like we
- 26:49Speaker 1: don't hear this with a lot of other guys. Right,
- 26:50Speaker 1: you know, we have to make sure they have the
- 26:52Speaker 1: perfect offensive line, they have the weapons and the running back,
- 26:55Speaker 1: the defensive places. Well, that means your quarterback isn't very good,
- 26:57Speaker 1: all right if you if you have all these things
- 26:59Speaker 1: have to be in place for him to maybe play
- 27:01Speaker 1: up to standard, maybe needed quarterback. Alright, So, Jeff, I'm
- 27:07Speaker 1: not a fan of what the Giants are doing right now. Um,
- 27:10Speaker 1: all right, so let me ask you. The Giants obviously
- 27:12Speaker 1: have two first round picks. The Raiders are sitting there
- 27:14Speaker 1: with a hall of first round picks as well. Do
- 27:17Speaker 1: you think that they get it right or do you
- 27:18Speaker 1: think they screw the pooch too? I think a lot
- 27:21Speaker 1: of it depends on on on car if they like Caring.
- 27:23Speaker 1: I mean, they they're a team that couldn't potentially package
- 27:26Speaker 1: picks to move up to one. Um. If the Cardinals
- 27:28Speaker 1: are set with Rosen right and then go get yourself
- 27:31Speaker 1: Kyla Murray. So um, I do think that they have
- 27:37Speaker 1: the opportunity to improve their team. The question is can
- 27:40Speaker 1: they draft those guys? I mean, this is Mayok's first
- 27:43Speaker 1: time doing this as new GM. He's you know, he's
- 27:46Speaker 1: done it behind the desk for for many years now,
- 27:48Speaker 1: but now as in charge of building a team, and
- 27:50Speaker 1: how much leeways John Good gonna give him and drafting
- 27:53Speaker 1: those players is a joint is a joint experience? Is
- 27:56Speaker 1: it just him? And then you know some teams, you know,
- 27:59Speaker 1: the generalman has final sam personnel. He'll ask the coach,
- 28:02Speaker 1: but it's up to him in the end. Um and
- 28:04Speaker 1: I don't know. They have an opportunity to add talent
- 28:08Speaker 1: to their team, no doubt about it. And they have
- 28:10Speaker 1: the opportunity package picks up if they want Murray. But
- 28:13Speaker 1: again I didn't with They just feel like a dumpster fireman.
- 28:16Speaker 1: You know, teams that that sign a bunch of guys
- 28:19Speaker 1: afraid to see they're never very good. I mean right,
- 28:21Speaker 1: I mean they just it's just you have to you
- 28:24Speaker 1: have to start building from within to really win the
- 28:26Speaker 1: National Football Leave. They had an opportunity to pay Kleio
- 28:28Speaker 1: Mac didn't do it. Um, their offensive line coach is
- 28:31Speaker 1: not very good. Um car is it's just soft. You know,
- 28:36Speaker 1: he blocked me on Twitter. I never talked to the
- 28:38Speaker 1: guy before he blocked me on Twitter. But I don't
- 28:40Speaker 1: know why. Everyone on Twitter human being. I could be
- 28:44Speaker 1: a dick on Twitter, and I control it pretty well.
- 28:46Speaker 1: I'm very good at that. But um, he he blocks
- 28:49Speaker 1: like everyone on Twitter. It's why. And Jeff, I don't
- 28:52Speaker 1: know who are some other notable people that maybe used
- 28:54Speaker 1: to have you blocked but don't anymore. No, Darren didn't
- 28:57Speaker 1: have me. Blocks didn't have me fault, he didn't have me.
- 28:59Speaker 1: He didn't follow me. Darren. I we talked about this
- 29:01Speaker 1: when we were in Vegas and at the dinner that
- 29:04Speaker 1: that Paul is upset about and and uh we we
- 29:09Speaker 1: we worked out. Yeah, he he basically and he laughed
- 29:11Speaker 1: about it too, like he basically knowledge that he was
- 29:13Speaker 1: a dick about it. Um. He had tweet him about
- 29:16Speaker 1: Nike and and the way they handle their business, and
- 29:18Speaker 1: I tweeted him back like he was wrong. I d
- 29:20Speaker 1: M him. No, I tweet him back like he was wrong.
- 29:23Speaker 1: He then DM to me to tell me that I
- 29:25Speaker 1: was wrong, and he read the contract and that unfollowed
- 29:28Speaker 1: me so I could so I couldn't DM him back,
- 29:30Speaker 1: like I have a Nike deal. I went to Oregon,
- 29:31Speaker 1: like I know what the rules are for how you
- 29:34Speaker 1: can tape your shoes up during a game. And so
- 29:37Speaker 1: I resented him for a while about that. And I
- 29:39Speaker 1: like him more more than maybe I like darre I mean,
- 29:41Speaker 1: he's so I've gone, I do. I don't know why
- 29:45Speaker 1: I understood, I understand, I can be I'll be. Uh,
- 29:51Speaker 1: I just I don't know. I like Darren. Sorry, I'm
- 29:53Speaker 1: maybe I'm just I'm just gonna go. And that's a
- 29:56Speaker 1: grand guy. But we we we don't we We talked
- 29:58Speaker 1: out in Vegas. I mean I didn't appreciate, you know,
- 30:01Speaker 1: the paying the forty bucks and we invite user. But
- 30:05Speaker 1: I was like, oh, all right, here you go. I
- 30:07Speaker 1: mean I was like, all right, I mean, I guess
- 30:09Speaker 1: I didn't have to pay. I I didn't mind the
- 30:12Speaker 1: choosing the food though, I mean, Paul was upset about that,
- 30:14Speaker 1: but I didn't bother me. But and I make it's
- 30:16Speaker 1: sick either, so apoplectic about every facet of that meal,
- 30:21Speaker 1: from the invitation through the check being paid. I was
- 30:26Speaker 1: an accessory though I figured he would at least pay
- 30:28Speaker 1: for you guys. I mean he invited or the company.
- 30:30Speaker 1: I don't know what's happening. Was it was a company
- 30:32Speaker 1: paying who knows Spencon? Apparently it's just us freight, who knows?
- 30:39Speaker 1: All right, Jeff, thank you for joining me. You're remarkable
- 30:43Speaker 1: human being. I didn't have to the human race. I
- 30:46Speaker 1: didn't have some more locker room Polly stories and I
- 30:49Speaker 1: don't have like I just didn't live the life that
- 30:51Speaker 1: Polly did. Man, his stories are just Um, I think
- 30:54Speaker 1: you can in the face with a baseball yesterday in
- 30:56Speaker 1: a minor league game. Next time, next time we're together,
- 30:58Speaker 1: we'll we'll sit down and we'll will make up some
- 31:01Speaker 1: locker room stories that could be yours. I just wait,
- 31:05Speaker 1: did you just say you got hit in the face
- 31:06Speaker 1: with a baseball? Yeah? I figured it wasn't even if
- 31:10Speaker 1: you're gonna pick that up or not. No, I went
- 31:13Speaker 1: so I went to I went to a game, a
- 31:14Speaker 1: minor league game with my son yesterday, the first day
- 31:17Speaker 1: game for the Nights here in Charlotte. And we're like
- 31:19Speaker 1: five rows up from from from third base and my
- 31:21Speaker 1: sons like half paying attention. But whatever, Um, there was
- 31:25Speaker 1: a foul ball hit in the third base coach picked
- 31:27Speaker 1: it up and he turned around. I pointed at my
- 31:28Speaker 1: son and that he like nod at me and threw
- 31:31Speaker 1: the ball while the lady in front of me, I'm
- 31:32Speaker 1: just like sitting on there was a great. It was
- 31:34Speaker 1: a great. It was great. Balls are gonna hit me
- 31:35Speaker 1: the hands. I have to stand up. I'm sitting there.
- 31:38Speaker 1: And then the lady in front of me gets up,
- 31:40Speaker 1: the ball tips off her hands, hits me in the
- 31:42Speaker 1: face and then and then rolled down and she picked
- 31:45Speaker 1: up a game with her kid. Oh and then she
- 31:49Speaker 1: and then my son like later in the game was
- 31:50Speaker 1: like it was like daddy, Like he made a comment
- 31:53Speaker 1: like Daddy, you know I want a baseball, and like
- 31:56Speaker 1: I was like, oh you want a baseball, Alex, Um,
- 31:59Speaker 1: do you really want a baseball? Was like, yeah, I
- 32:01Speaker 1: think I want a baseball. Day said okay, well maybe
- 32:03Speaker 1: I'll find it when to get you a baseball. And
- 32:04Speaker 1: the lady like turned around and then like went down
- 32:06Speaker 1: and got like she's like sweet talking when the players
- 32:08Speaker 1: are giving her a ball. So I by setting up
- 32:09Speaker 1: with the ball, but um, not the one that hit
- 32:11Speaker 1: me in the face. Well, what did you say? When
- 32:15Speaker 1: the ball hit you in the face, because I think
- 32:16Speaker 1: a lot of people would probably I was just I
- 32:19Speaker 1: just was you know, the lady was the lady was
- 32:22Speaker 1: like I just was pissed because the whole crowd was like, oh,
- 32:26Speaker 1: you know I was like that that I was that guy,
- 32:28Speaker 1: and you know, the probably myself an athleticism and then
- 32:32Speaker 1: that was just a bad show off athleticism. Just getting
- 32:35Speaker 1: hit in the face of the ball. There was no thing.
- 32:37Speaker 1: There was no video board, so I didn't have to
- 32:39Speaker 1: like see it again. But um, and then the ball
- 32:44Speaker 1: I hit my son the leg and I rolled off
- 32:46Speaker 1: him and he's like he just kept eating his ice cream.
- 32:49Speaker 1: I just didn't even care. All right. Well, there's really
- 32:51Speaker 1: no better way to uh end a show than Jeff
- 32:54Speaker 1: saying that he got hit in the face with the ball. Um.
- 32:58Speaker 1: If this were Paul telling the story, it would be
- 33:00Speaker 1: a very different story. But thanks, I'm not gonna fight.
- 33:02Speaker 1: I'm not gonna fight a mom over a baseball. Shortly,
- 33:07Speaker 1: I'm not implying it would have anything to do with baseball.
- 33:10Speaker 1: If it was a Laduka story, it would be a
- 33:13Speaker 1: whole other realm oh, I I end up with like
