- 0:36Speaker 2: You went eighty one.
- 0:40Speaker 1: You do look good.
- 0:41Speaker 2: Look I feel good. I feel great. In a week.
- 0:45Speaker 4: Yeah, I haven't eaten any grease. Now you don't know
- 0:47Speaker 4: your numbers. Three and a half days. I haven't eaten
- 0:49Speaker 4: any grease, nothing, No sugar is nothing. I'm feeling good.
- 0:52Speaker 1: The hardest part, right is slimming.
- 0:54Speaker 2: You look great? Yeah, thank you appreciate it.
- 0:57Speaker 1: What was the hardest part, krat said, eating.
- 1:00Speaker 2: From from like two to four pm, two to five.
- 1:02Speaker 4: They're like you get that crave of like just go
- 1:05Speaker 4: on the fridge and just go crush something and you
- 1:08Speaker 4: just chug some more water.
- 1:10Speaker 2: That's all.
- 1:10Speaker 1: That's incredible. I don't have that kind of discipline, but
- 1:12Speaker 1: I respect the hell.
- 1:14Speaker 4: Eighty one hour so I and I believe in myself
- 1:17Speaker 4: I could have done more, but.
- 1:21Speaker 2: I was like, all right, let me just try.
- 1:22Speaker 4: And I had two eggs and an avocado my first meal,
- 1:25Speaker 4: and I'm like, all I kind of miss it a
- 1:27Speaker 4: little bit so and then I slowly little ground beef,
- 1:30Speaker 4: a couple more eggs, you know, and I slowly and
- 1:32Speaker 4: surely and now I got my wife's cousin, who's a
- 1:35Speaker 4: chef's cooking me up meals each week, so it's good.
- 1:39Speaker 2: I like it.
- 1:40Speaker 1: Hey, maybe you'll be on survivor that what it takes.
- 1:43Speaker 2: Listen, you don't want me on survive.
- 1:45Speaker 4: I don't eating, okay, but trying to survive out there
- 1:49Speaker 4: wouldn't be able to sleep.
- 1:53Speaker 2: All right.
- 1:53Speaker 1: A couple of things, So, first off, Happy Arbitration Exchange
- 1:57Speaker 1: Day to those who celebrate. Like I mentioned, unfair territory.
- 2:01Speaker 1: I was on fair with Ken. It's great. So if
- 2:02Speaker 1: you want to check that out later, maybe we'll get
- 2:05Speaker 1: some money news that pops up. I don't really care
- 2:08Speaker 1: about the ARB number, but if there's anything like an
- 2:10Speaker 1: extension during the next couple hours, we'll let you know.
- 2:13Speaker 1: Number two over the next couple hours, if you can
- 2:17Speaker 1: head over to that Hall of Pretty Good Instagram page
- 2:20Speaker 1: and vote for our boy, Kevin Palar. He is currently
- 2:24Speaker 1: in the running for the Hall of Pretty Good. He's
- 2:27Speaker 1: gonna make it, but there's an elite tier if you
- 2:29Speaker 1: get I think ninety percent or higher on the vote.
- 2:32Speaker 1: So we even put the QR code up on the screen.
- 2:33Speaker 1: I know many of you catch this show later on
- 2:35Speaker 1: or if you're listening podcast form later on, the voting
- 2:39Speaker 1: will probably be done by then. But if you're in
- 2:42Speaker 1: the chat right now, the many hundreds of you, and
- 2:45Speaker 1: you want to do this while you're listening, that would
- 2:47Speaker 1: be great.
- 2:50Speaker 2: It's real.
- 2:51Speaker 1: I mean, what do you define as real? Like keeps asking,
- 2:55Speaker 1: He's like, we had.
- 2:56Speaker 4: This conversation, I said, Cooper, I thought somebody was like
- 2:59Speaker 4: a made up thing.
- 3:00Speaker 1: It isn't made up.
- 3:01Speaker 4: Oh like it doesn't go through MLB or anything. No,
- 3:04Speaker 4: not through forget about it.
- 3:05Speaker 1: But wait, but I don't care. Why did they get
- 3:08Speaker 1: to decide?
- 3:09Speaker 4: I get it, But does he get an award? Does
- 3:11Speaker 4: he get anything like a plaque? I wouldn't want to
- 3:13Speaker 4: post that on my wall. Hall Pretty Good?
- 3:15Speaker 1: I guess you know, like, yeah, Todd father's posting fines,
- 3:19Speaker 1: he's posting offers from Yukon. Yeah, man, he's posting this
- 3:24Speaker 1: bad boy.
- 3:25Speaker 2: Yeah, but no, I I guess, I guess it's pretty cool.
- 3:28Speaker 2: I mean, you guy's got a good following.
- 3:31Speaker 1: He does, He does actually have a good following. You
- 3:33Speaker 1: know what it is? And krats you tell me if
- 3:36Speaker 1: I'm wrong. There are many players that fans feel like
- 3:40Speaker 1: they'd like to further acknowledge, and the Hall of Fame
- 3:44Speaker 1: is such a small amount, right, it got really small
- 3:47Speaker 1: for a time period. It's opening up a drop, but still,
- 3:49Speaker 1: I mean it's such a small sliver of players that
- 3:52Speaker 1: I think fans just enjoy seeing the name pop up
- 3:54Speaker 1: again and being like tip of the cap, this guy
- 3:56Speaker 1: was hit.
- 3:58Speaker 3: Yeah, I think it gets some under rated people. It's
- 4:01Speaker 3: a little bit more love that they that they should
- 4:03Speaker 3: have gotten. It's also very much your generation, Scott, like,
- 4:06Speaker 3: everybody gets a trophy. So let's let's give Todd what
- 4:10Speaker 3: do you want? Do you want something?
- 4:11Speaker 2: To wait? What?
- 4:13Speaker 1: We're the same generation. I just said to Todd before
- 4:18Speaker 1: the show started. They don't make them like they used to.
- 4:20Speaker 1: I am definitely not in the everyone gets a metal generation. No, No, I'm.
- 4:25Speaker 3: With that with that pullover, you got it going on
- 4:28Speaker 3: the podcast people, you need to check out the show.
- 4:30Speaker 3: Scott has got his Christmas, his Christmas Carnigiate on that
- 4:35Speaker 3: is you are you're old school with that.
- 4:38Speaker 1: I spend a lot of time in Florida. When I don't,
- 4:40Speaker 1: I try and take advantage.
- 4:42Speaker 2: We need that in foul territory gear. So we can
- 4:44Speaker 2: all rock right here.
- 4:48Speaker 1: Anyway. My motto, if you're not first, your last, So
- 4:52Speaker 1: there you go. Also, if you're not invited, you're not
- 4:56Speaker 1: going to Cincinnati, and that's crap. But I will do
- 5:01Speaker 1: this before we get to news because Todd father sitting
- 5:04Speaker 1: next to me, Todd myself, the so friendly, so kind
- 5:08Speaker 1: to Danny Graves, who is a blast to hang out
- 5:11Speaker 1: with as well. Uh, he will give the shirt off
- 5:14Speaker 1: his back to you. You've been around Danny many times.
- 5:16Speaker 1: He's such an easy going dude.
- 5:19Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 5:19Speaker 1: So we'll be hanging. We'll play a little poker.
- 5:21Speaker 2: I heard he's a good poker player too.
- 5:23Speaker 1: I did too. I heard you're good too, specifically in Cincinnati.
- 5:26Speaker 1: I heard you're good like you have this home there.
- 5:28Speaker 4: All of a sudden, when I just get to hit
- 5:29Speaker 4: the air there and I get a Jeff Ruby steak
- 5:31Speaker 4: the night before and I'm my.
- 5:35Speaker 2: Here we go.
- 5:37Speaker 1: Locked because you've hit singers there. You know that air.
- 5:41Speaker 4: Exactly, and I know exactly where we're playing. The room
- 5:44Speaker 4: is huge. There'll be some root beers flowing and some
- 5:48Speaker 4: good food. And uh, I'm not doing a diet cratty.
- 5:54Speaker 4: I'm just eating healthier, That's all I'm doing. Again, people
- 5:57Speaker 4: are like, oh man, what do you do this for
- 5:59Speaker 4: a dime?
- 5:59Speaker 2: Bro? You gotta read into It's on the cellular level. Okay, listen, is.
- 6:03Speaker 3: It in your new lifestyle change to have some ruby
- 6:06Speaker 3: steaks and root beers.
- 6:08Speaker 2: Steak is good, Steak is good protein. We need that.
- 6:13Speaker 3: You're a cellular level. I'll call you the cellular phone.
- 6:17Speaker 1: The dude's allowed to have a cocktail on a Saturday night, okay,
- 6:21Speaker 1: but on the Sunday. So it's not this weekend. It's
- 6:24Speaker 1: the weekend after just for anyone that's in the Cincinnati area.
- 6:28Speaker 1: It is coming quick. So it is the weekend of
- 6:30Speaker 1: the seventeenth, seventeenth the poker tournament in Cincinnati. And then
- 6:34Speaker 1: on Sunday we'll do a Q and A so look up,
- 6:38Speaker 1: we'll post about it. Let's post about it today for
- 6:40Speaker 1: more details, to check out what's going on there and
- 6:43Speaker 1: how you can get involved. And now let's charge chu.
- 6:51Speaker 1: Will Salmon covers the Mets for the Athletic among other teams,
- 6:54Speaker 1: but he focuses on the Mets during the season, and
- 6:57Speaker 1: he put out a story about the Mets interest in
- 7:00Speaker 1: Kyle Tucker. So he said, what to make of the
- 7:03Speaker 1: Mets interest in Kyle Tucker And he wrote about how
- 7:08Speaker 1: the Mets would be mostly interested in one of those
- 7:11Speaker 1: high average annual value, shorter term contracts. He also mentioned
- 7:16Speaker 1: how Jim Duquette, who's pretty tied in with the team,
- 7:18Speaker 1: he used to work for them and he's been on
- 7:20Speaker 1: this show and he works for Series XM among other spots.
- 7:22Speaker 1: Sm Y Duke said the three most aggressive teams for
- 7:26Speaker 1: Tucker are the Blue Jays, the Mets, and the Dodgers.
- 7:31Speaker 1: Samon also wrote about how Mets officials actually feel that
- 7:34Speaker 1: their roster is really strong right now that their defense
- 7:36Speaker 1: is better. Fan grafts war has them sixth best in baseball.
- 7:41Speaker 1: It looks like they're pegged for on the win total.
- 7:43Speaker 1: I think vetam Jam has them at eighty six and
- 7:45Speaker 1: a half for the over under. That's usually a playoff
- 7:48Speaker 1: spot right, But as far as Tucker goes, does he
- 7:53Speaker 1: want the bright lights? Is he really going to take
- 7:55Speaker 1: a shorter term deal? For example, if the Mets are
- 7:58Speaker 1: offering him three years, one thirty, it's a big number.
- 8:05Speaker 1: But what if the Blue Jays are offering him eight
- 8:07Speaker 1: years three hundred?
- 8:09Speaker 2: Yeah, what are you doing? Yeah?
- 8:12Speaker 4: I don't knowing him and waiting for this moment, I
- 8:15Speaker 4: don't think that he's gonna want anything smaller than what
- 8:18Speaker 4: he deserves. And if I'm him and I'm not, though,
- 8:22Speaker 4: But if I'm him, I want the most money and
- 8:24Speaker 4: I want the most years so I can go after
- 8:27Speaker 4: I'm done playing, I don't have to worry about free
- 8:28Speaker 4: agency anymore. I can just ride my wave all the
- 8:31Speaker 4: way to my house and retire. The guy's a good
- 8:33Speaker 4: enough player, he could play anywhere. He would be such
- 8:36Speaker 4: a good fit for the Mets. I think it's a
- 8:38Speaker 4: great opportunity for them to figure something out to get them.
- 8:42Speaker 4: They're always trying to finagle something into what isn't supposed
- 8:46Speaker 4: to be there.
- 8:46Speaker 2: Just make an offer for the guy.
- 8:49Speaker 4: If he want a short term that kind of deal,
- 8:51Speaker 4: it's probably not going to work out unless there's some
- 8:53Speaker 4: kind of favoritism towards Tucker that he you know, he
- 8:56Speaker 4: can't refuse what that is, I don't know.
- 9:00Speaker 2: The Blue Jays get them, then we have some more
- 9:01Speaker 2: questions to be asked. You know, how about Bobashet and
- 9:04Speaker 2: these other guys that are part of the organization, the Dodgers.
- 9:08Speaker 2: We don't know what they're gonna do. And that's the
- 9:09Speaker 2: team right now. For me. That is like they're willing
- 9:14Speaker 2: to do any and everything to win World Series.
- 9:15Speaker 4: They won back to back in this team, I wouldn't
- 9:18Speaker 4: doubt if they got it. If somebody came to an
- 9:21Speaker 4: offer and Tucker's agent came back to the Dodger and said, listen,
- 9:24Speaker 4: they're doing this. We'll do it for another year. We'll
- 9:27Speaker 4: give them thirty more million. Boom, He's going to do it.
- 9:29Speaker 4: So that's the wildcard team. I would be be scared
- 9:32Speaker 4: of Cratzy.
- 9:34Speaker 2: For sure.
- 9:35Speaker 3: I mean, I think we can debate where he's the
- 9:37Speaker 3: best fit and who's going to actually sign them, But
- 9:40Speaker 3: just for the sake of the just for the sake
- 9:42Speaker 3: of the topic, Like let's say the Mets are saying, okay,
- 9:46Speaker 3: we want a shorter term deal. Obviously you're talking about
- 9:49Speaker 3: opt outs after every year after the first two years.
- 9:53Speaker 3: To me, what does that salary look like if they
- 9:56Speaker 3: feel like that's a legitimate thing, because teams can come
- 10:00Speaker 3: in and do this. You've seen Stern Stern's did it
- 10:03Speaker 3: with the Brewers. He signed, YESMANI grandal. He''s not afraid
- 10:07Speaker 3: to go out and say, okay, you want a one
- 10:09Speaker 3: year deal. This isn't going to be a one year
- 10:11Speaker 3: deal thing. This is going to be more of like
- 10:13Speaker 3: the Cody Bellinger when he went to the Cubs on
- 10:15Speaker 3: kind of like a prove it deal. I don't think
- 10:17Speaker 3: Kyle Tucker needs to prove it. So all that aside,
- 10:21Speaker 3: what does it look like? What is that number? Because
- 10:23Speaker 3: I'm looking at the highest the highest annual salary for
- 10:27Speaker 3: players for this current coming up year. How much is
- 10:32Speaker 3: it going to take? Is he going to make? Will
- 10:35Speaker 3: they offer him three years, one hundred and twenty million?
- 10:40Speaker 3: Are they going to offer him which would which would
- 10:43Speaker 3: give him exactly what Judge is getting. I don't want
- 10:46Speaker 3: I don't think Major League Baseball wants anybody, any team
- 10:50Speaker 3: to do that because yes, it's a one year deal essentially,
- 10:53Speaker 3: but you're you're raising the average annual value up, and
- 10:58Speaker 3: it's giving less less ownership to the Mets, Like, hey,
- 11:01Speaker 3: you know what if he gets hurt, you know, we're
- 11:03Speaker 3: only stuck three years. Like what's what do you guys
- 11:05Speaker 3: think that number is? Because if that number isn't more
- 11:09Speaker 3: than forty, you know you're talking then Vladdie and then
- 11:12Speaker 3: Zach Wheeler's making forty two and then obviously he's not
- 11:15Speaker 3: getting Soto money. But is he going to get more
- 11:17Speaker 3: than forty a year on a short term Mets deal?
- 11:21Speaker 1: Yes, I think he could. I think the Mets would
- 11:24Speaker 1: do three years one to twenty right now, Remember some
- 11:28Speaker 1: fans are going to go, hey, last year Alex Bregman
- 11:31Speaker 1: got what was his final number? I think deferrals made
- 11:35Speaker 1: his number three years ninety on net present value, So
- 11:38Speaker 1: that was thirty, right, because I think it was three years?
- 11:41Speaker 1: Was it three years one twenty for Bregman?
- 11:44Speaker 2: If it was.
- 11:45Speaker 3: If it was, the first year wasn't as backloaded as
- 11:48Speaker 3: the other years the other years were. He wasn't getting
- 11:51Speaker 3: as much.
- 11:51Speaker 1: Upfront and it didn't matter, right because it ended up
- 11:54Speaker 1: turning into a one year deal. But it does matter
- 11:56Speaker 1: because that's how you look at the back end security.
- 11:59Speaker 1: If the player gets turd or something like that. Point is,
- 12:02Speaker 1: do I think that in today money a team would
- 12:06Speaker 1: offer Kyle Tucker forty million dollars or even more. I
- 12:09Speaker 1: think a team would offer him forty five on a
- 12:11Speaker 1: three year contract. I do, But the question is do
- 12:14Speaker 1: you want that or do you want like thirty five
- 12:16Speaker 1: over eight years from the Blue Jays. To me, it's
- 12:19Speaker 1: seeming pretty clear that the Blue Jays have a legitimate
- 12:22Speaker 1: offer on the table for him for a lengthy amount
- 12:25Speaker 1: of years, and he has to decide if he wants
- 12:27Speaker 1: to take that, and they probably have the winning bid
- 12:29Speaker 1: by a good margin. The Blue Jays have been aggressive
- 12:32Speaker 1: as hell, right they did this with Dylan Cease. They
- 12:33Speaker 1: were like, boom, we're throwing this at you. We know
- 12:35Speaker 1: it's the biggest and the best. You want to ball
- 12:37Speaker 1: with the big boys that almost want a World Series
- 12:39Speaker 1: or not.
- 12:40Speaker 4: And they probably said, listen, I'm giving you this. You
- 12:43Speaker 4: gotta let us know by the end of the day.
- 12:44Speaker 4: I've been in those part of situations. You got twenty
- 12:47Speaker 4: four hours or you know, this is the offer we're given.
- 12:49Speaker 4: You got to get back to us within the next
- 12:51Speaker 4: couple hours here because we got to make our decisions
- 12:53Speaker 4: so that's the unknown, and that's what you know. That's
- 12:56Speaker 4: what you got to understand. That's why being an agent's tough.
- 12:59Speaker 4: That's why business is tough. This is a business that
- 13:02Speaker 4: they're all going through. And if I'm Tucker, I'm like,
- 13:04Speaker 4: I want I want this to be done sooner than later.
- 13:07Speaker 4: So hopefully we get some answers as we move by something. Hey,
- 13:10Speaker 4: look at the Dodgers off for this, or the Mets
- 13:12Speaker 4: offered this, so we know, you know what is really
- 13:14Speaker 4: going on behind the scenes.
- 13:16Speaker 1: I would be shocked at the Mets land Kyle Tucker
- 13:19Speaker 1: number one, if shocked, shocked if they're offering, if it's
- 13:24Speaker 1: a low year, high average annual value offer, as Ken
- 13:28Speaker 1: Rosenthal said earlier on Fair Territory, there are four or
- 13:31Speaker 1: five other teams are going to do the same thing.
- 13:32Speaker 1: Why is he choosing the Mets? And I've actually covered
- 13:35Speaker 1: Kyle Tucker a ton and I would say this if
- 13:37Speaker 1: we had him on the show You Want to Play
- 13:38Speaker 1: in New York. He is like such a low key
- 13:41Speaker 1: viewed what is the term that you use crats ad?
- 13:44Speaker 1: A lot of the youngsters act where it's not not
- 13:48Speaker 1: He is the definition of nonchalant You're like, are you there, bro,
- 13:53Speaker 1: are you pumped? And it's like, nah, because I'm so talented. Right,
- 13:56Speaker 1: He's got the low heartbeat thing going and it works
- 13:58Speaker 1: for him. It's turned him into a super start performer
- 14:00Speaker 1: on the field. When I think Kyle Tucker, I think
- 14:04Speaker 1: New York is one of the last places where he
- 14:05Speaker 1: would want to be NonStop media, tons of heat.
- 14:09Speaker 2: Right.
- 14:10Speaker 1: I grew up in the area. So you're you're a
- 14:12Speaker 1: Jersey guy, Kyle Tucker, if given the choice, is going
- 14:17Speaker 1: to select a different destination.
- 14:19Speaker 4: And you got and you got to know how to
- 14:21Speaker 4: work those people, the media, the atmosphere, going home, having
- 14:26Speaker 4: people screaming at you through the cars, and next thing
- 14:29Speaker 4: you know, you're going about at and I You're like,
- 14:31Speaker 4: oh my god, go ahead, kratthy no.
- 14:33Speaker 5: No, no.
- 14:33Speaker 3: I was just gonna say, you grew you grew up
- 14:35Speaker 3: in the area. You didn't grow up in New York,
- 14:37Speaker 3: but you grew up in Jersey. You know, Yankees all
- 14:39Speaker 3: that stuff. And I know I've heard you say it like, dude,
- 14:42Speaker 3: I had a problem with this dude, what was his problem?
- 14:45Speaker 5: Like that?
- 14:46Speaker 3: And you're you're you're outward. You you express how you feel.
- 14:51Speaker 3: Some guys who are more you know, had that inward.
- 14:54Speaker 3: They're they're more intrinsic, like they're not they're just they're
- 14:58Speaker 3: not out there as much as you are Todd, Like
- 15:00Speaker 3: they have the same feelings. Just because Todd shows his expression,
- 15:05Speaker 3: shows how he feels about a certain writer writing a
- 15:08Speaker 3: certain article. The dudes who are quiet aren't just like whatever,
- 15:14Speaker 3: Like it's still eating them up inside.
- 15:16Speaker 2: Yeah, And so you didn't grow up in the If.
- 15:18Speaker 3: You grew up in the area, and you have a
- 15:20Speaker 3: tough time sometimes with it, not that it affected you,
- 15:23Speaker 3: but like how tough is it when you come in
- 15:26Speaker 3: from another place, It's pretty tough. It's tougher than people think.
- 15:31Speaker 2: You think you had it one way.
- 15:32Speaker 4: It's like, oh man, you know this was hard, and
- 15:33Speaker 4: then you come into New York. It's a different beast.
- 15:37Speaker 4: And we all know that and understand that. And like
- 15:40Speaker 4: where you see a guy like me that would call
- 15:43Speaker 4: a guy out on something or would say the other
- 15:46Speaker 4: question is that, man, I'm not answering that. When you
- 15:48Speaker 4: got a new guy that comes in, it's like trying
- 15:51Speaker 4: to beat around what the guy was asking. Then all
- 15:54Speaker 4: of a sudden they put an article up that you know,
- 15:56Speaker 4: look at this facial expression.
- 15:57Speaker 2: Look at this.
- 15:58Speaker 4: He must be doing it, and all of a sudden
- 16:00Speaker 4: you get labeled as somebody that you're really not. So yeah,
- 16:04Speaker 4: it's harder. I think Kyle Tucker could. I think he
- 16:06Speaker 4: can handle it. But at the same time, there's been
- 16:09Speaker 4: a lot of guys who have.
- 16:10Speaker 1: He can handle it. The question is, if given similar offers,
- 16:14Speaker 1: why is he going to pick a place that's not
- 16:17Speaker 1: really up.
- 16:18Speaker 2: He would have to think that they're in a seat
- 16:20Speaker 2: to make.
- 16:20Speaker 1: The playoffs, right, But it's like if the Dodgers and
- 16:22Speaker 1: Mets have similar offers.
- 16:24Speaker 4: I mean, well, then money comes into place, and then
- 16:28Speaker 4: do you want to win a World Series or not?
- 16:29Speaker 1: Pretty much it comes. We got a better chance with
- 16:31Speaker 1: La of course. One last thing here a question from
- 16:34Speaker 1: Noah the Chat. If he can play for the Cubs,
- 16:35Speaker 1: why couldn't he handle the Mets media market? Number One,
- 16:37Speaker 1: he played for the Cubs for one season. Number two,
- 16:41Speaker 1: Chicago and New York different different, not that there, it's
- 16:45Speaker 1: just like a soft market in Chicago.
- 16:47Speaker 2: It's much softer in Chicago. It is.
- 16:49Speaker 4: It is, and I don't mean that. I know I
- 16:53Speaker 4: was with the White Sox, but still it's a softer market.
- 16:55Speaker 4: You got your guys and you sit there and you
- 16:58Speaker 4: and I used to tell the guys over in Chicago
- 17:00Speaker 4: you can talk. You can ask all of them.
- 17:02Speaker 2: Two of them.
- 17:02Speaker 4: I said, you guys couldn't handle New York and I
- 17:05Speaker 4: used to bust their chops all the time. I remember
- 17:06Speaker 4: like it was yesterday, and Noah, I respectfully, it's two
- 17:12Speaker 4: totally different markets. And these guys will chew you up
- 17:16Speaker 4: and spit you out if you if they if you
- 17:18Speaker 4: let them, that's all boom.
- 17:19Speaker 1: There you have it. And if you want more toughness
- 17:22Speaker 1: on the Mets, Mets Up the show, the podcast, go
- 17:25Speaker 1: check it out wherever you listen to your pods or
- 17:27Speaker 1: on the Mets Up YouTube channel. They'll address this interest
- 17:31Speaker 1: for the Mets and the other part of the article,
- 17:33Speaker 1: which is are the Mets really good enough? Because team
- 17:35Speaker 1: officials think they are, most people think they are not
- 17:38Speaker 1: yet a playoff contender.
- 17:39Speaker 2: Show me the money.
- 17:49Speaker 1: Every time we play that, I think of how it
- 17:51Speaker 1: relates to what we're about to say, and I can
- 17:53Speaker 1: do it. Ready, Michael Lorenzen signs a one year, eight
- 17:56Speaker 1: million dollar contracts to pitch in Colorado. So the conversation went, Hey, Michael,
- 18:03Speaker 1: would you like to pitch in a brutal ballpark for pitchers,
- 18:07Speaker 1: and we'll make sure you're starting again. And he's like maybe,
- 18:11Speaker 1: And they're like, would you like one year and eight
- 18:14Speaker 1: million dollars and then a club option for the next
- 18:16Speaker 1: year for nine million dollars And he said, show me
- 18:18Speaker 1: the money and then he signed. That is not an
- 18:21Speaker 1: easy task. Michael Lorenzen likes to take a little bit
- 18:24Speaker 1: of pain, right. I mean, he's one of the strongest
- 18:26Speaker 1: dudes in baseball. But it is not going to be
- 18:29Speaker 1: easy to pitch in Colorado, as it isn't for almost anyone.
- 18:32Speaker 1: But someone's got to do it.
- 18:33Speaker 2: No, what never is.
- 18:34Speaker 4: I think this is a great deal. I think you know,
- 18:37Speaker 4: it might have come down and not having many options out.
- 18:39Speaker 1: There, right, or lesser options money wise exactly.
- 18:43Speaker 4: And if you're going to get a better option of
- 18:45Speaker 4: getting a better option of money, yeah, of course you're
- 18:48Speaker 4: going to go. You take that in consideration a little bit,
- 18:51Speaker 4: but again, you're a professional. You can go out there
- 18:53Speaker 4: and pitch and be who you are. I wouldn't look
- 18:57Speaker 4: into it that much. But again, yes, the ball does
- 18:59Speaker 4: fly out out there. There's going to be some homers
- 19:01Speaker 4: that should not have been, but you'll take that risk.
- 19:04Speaker 4: And you're a starter now and you're believed to be
- 19:07Speaker 4: one of their top guys. So go out there and
- 19:09Speaker 4: show it, and you never know what can happen the
- 19:11Speaker 4: year after.
- 19:12Speaker 1: I have a question for you. I want to try
- 19:13Speaker 1: and put you in his shoes. So, for la Reenten,
- 19:17Speaker 1: let's say he had an offer to for five or
- 19:21Speaker 1: six million bucks at places that are more favorable to
- 19:25Speaker 1: pitch and with teams that are not in a massive,
- 19:28Speaker 1: massive rebuild.
- 19:30Speaker 2: What do you do?
- 19:31Speaker 1: So in your shoes. Let's say you're a free agent
- 19:34Speaker 1: back in one of your free agent days, right, and
- 19:36Speaker 1: you either have the option of signing with a good
- 19:39Speaker 1: team let's just say the Yanks, right, one of the
- 19:41Speaker 1: teams you really liked playing for, for five million bucks,
- 19:44Speaker 1: or the Giants call and say we'll sign you for
- 19:48Speaker 1: eight million bucks. And let's say at the time the
- 19:50Speaker 1: Giants are not good. So you have a bad team
- 19:52Speaker 1: and a bad hitters ballpark, or a good hitters ballpark
- 19:55Speaker 1: and a good team. And I'm trying to figure out
- 19:57Speaker 1: like what the threshold is and what goes through your head.
- 20:00Speaker 4: It's a hard one because you I would want to
- 20:03Speaker 4: play for the great team. But that's another three million
- 20:06Speaker 4: dollars on the table. I mean, I know where Crats
- 20:08Speaker 4: is going, but for me, it's.
- 20:14Speaker 2: I'm not sure.
- 20:15Speaker 4: I'm not sure, but that would have to be where
- 20:17Speaker 4: I'm at in my career. Is it the late stages
- 20:20Speaker 4: or and the and the the option for next year.
- 20:23Speaker 2: Would have to come into play.
- 20:25Speaker 4: It would have to be a player option in my opinion, right,
- 20:27Speaker 4: you're not doing two.
- 20:28Speaker 2: I'm not.
- 20:29Speaker 4: I would do it one year with a player option
- 20:31Speaker 4: for for the next year after the club options. I'm
- 20:35Speaker 4: you know, I did one of those and you know,
- 20:38Speaker 4: uh what was it like five? I forget what the
- 20:41Speaker 4: money was, but they I got paid for not even
- 20:43Speaker 4: being on their team because they didn't pick me up.
- 20:44Speaker 2: But you get to buy it. Yeah, I would. I
- 20:46Speaker 2: would rather have a player option to do it.
- 20:49Speaker 1: Okay, Krats.
- 20:52Speaker 2: I mean I love winning.
- 20:53Speaker 3: I love winning. Like It's hard for me to say
- 20:55Speaker 3: because I didn't make a ton of money from baseball standpoint,
- 20:59Speaker 3: But I'm made a ton of money from normal people standpoint, playing,
- 21:03Speaker 3: so it's relative. All with Todd said, you know, if
- 21:07Speaker 3: I had gotten the option to make the most money
- 21:11Speaker 3: at the end of my career and I already had
- 21:12Speaker 3: a World Series ring. You're like, hey, you know what,
- 21:14Speaker 3: I'm not gonna play anymore. So to me, I think
- 21:17Speaker 3: Michael Lorenzen is an awesome pickup. Is he gonna have
- 21:21Speaker 3: a six era or a three era? I have no idea.
- 21:25Speaker 2: You know.
- 21:26Speaker 3: It's how you acclimate to course field. It's how you
- 21:29Speaker 3: deal with the fact that it's not the home runs.
- 21:31Speaker 3: It's the fact that it's a massive outfield and more
- 21:34Speaker 3: balls are going to land, so you just can't let
- 21:36Speaker 3: your pitch count get up. You can't walk guys all
- 21:39Speaker 3: that kind of stuff because they just can't cover the
- 21:42Speaker 3: entire field. To me, it's a massive pickup because of
- 21:45Speaker 3: the fact that this is this is a guy he's
- 21:48Speaker 3: still young enough. He can still He's only thirty four,
- 21:51Speaker 3: he can still play. To me, he's a guy that
- 21:54Speaker 3: can help some of these younger players be professional, go
- 21:59Speaker 3: through the grow. Just like talking to him. He's got
- 22:03Speaker 3: his head on straight in the sense that he understands
- 22:05Speaker 3: the priorities in the game and about being a good teammate,
- 22:09Speaker 3: about what it's like to compete day in and day out.
- 22:12Speaker 3: He's been on really good teams where he threw a
- 22:14Speaker 3: no hitter with the Phillies. He's been on really bad
- 22:17Speaker 3: teams and he was a position player. He was a pitcher. Like,
- 22:21Speaker 3: it's a guy I think you add to that clubhouse
- 22:23Speaker 3: without knowing the other guys in the clubhouse that can
- 22:26Speaker 3: only raise the level of everybody because of how hard
- 22:29Speaker 3: he works and his just his mindset and his positive
- 22:33Speaker 3: outlook on the game every day.
- 22:36Speaker 1: And he wants to start. I mean he's bounced back
- 22:38Speaker 1: and forth start a reliever. Some Rockies fans joked that
- 22:42Speaker 1: they should have him hit for them as well. He
- 22:45Speaker 1: used to do that. But anyway, I mean, he is
- 22:48Speaker 1: a guy who wants to start, and the Rockies are
- 22:50Speaker 1: going to give him the chance to do that. The
- 22:51Speaker 1: Royals did. Actually last year he won one hundred and
- 22:53Speaker 1: forty one and two thirds innings. He made twenty seven appearances,
- 22:56Speaker 1: twenty six of them were starts. Right, the RA wasn't
- 22:59Speaker 1: to dream about. And also when we're talking to R
- 23:01Speaker 1: right now for the Rockies, you got to take that
- 23:04Speaker 1: with a grain of salt. You got to use other statistics,
- 23:06Speaker 1: like if you want to get basic R plus right,
- 23:09Speaker 1: just to judge that a four and a half of
- 23:11Speaker 1: RA in Colorado could be like a three in other ballparks.
- 23:15Speaker 1: But yeah, I'm with you. I mean, the Rockies have
- 23:17Speaker 1: to start somewhere. Let's bring on a guy that should
- 23:20Speaker 1: be able to eat innings, wants to start sets a
- 23:23Speaker 1: great example. I mean, he's a workout machine. I wrote
- 23:26Speaker 1: this yesterday on the reply to the tweet.
- 23:29Speaker 2: As a leader too, so he's gonna help out the
- 23:31Speaker 2: younger guys he is.
- 23:32Speaker 1: But ironic that the Rockies are now being run by
- 23:35Speaker 1: a guy who just came over from the NFL Paul
- 23:38Speaker 1: de Pedesto. Over the last ten years, the first signing
- 23:40Speaker 1: the Rockies make under this era is a dude who
- 23:43Speaker 1: looks like he should be in the NFL.
- 23:44Speaker 2: Is an inside linebacker.
- 23:46Speaker 1: He's a house Yeah yeah, So anyway, nice little signing
- 23:50Speaker 1: for yeah.
- 23:51Speaker 2: And out of all of us, they would sign you.
- 23:54Speaker 1: Because I wouldn't see that. If that's what he's thinking,
- 23:58Speaker 1: let me just go for the football look, but no
- 24:01Speaker 1: actual baseball skill. Rockies fans, let's talk. We have a
- 24:05Speaker 1: lot of time left to get back to winning a
- 24:08Speaker 1: ways if that's if we're just going off looks and
- 24:10Speaker 1: physicality and all that. But I appreciate the top father,
- 24:13Speaker 1: But I will say I mean, we'll see how this
- 24:15Speaker 1: shakes out. You've got they've got a guy in place
- 24:17Speaker 1: now running the front office that is a super super
- 24:21Speaker 1: numbers analytical guy, right, and you can you can love
- 24:26Speaker 1: or hate where the game has gone. Whatever has been
- 24:28Speaker 1: going on in Colorado has not been working. So maybe
- 24:31Speaker 1: this guy brings something totally different to the table. It
- 24:34Speaker 1: almost feels, don't you feel like Colorado it has to
- 24:37Speaker 1: be somewhat of a lab, like a science experiment, because
- 24:39Speaker 1: of how different it is out there to play, and.
- 24:43Speaker 4: If you do well, that's really good for your case,
- 24:46Speaker 4: for your lab experiment.
- 24:48Speaker 1: That's a good call. So a lot of front offices
- 24:51Speaker 1: were dreaming, or a lot of front office members right,
- 24:53Speaker 1: like an assistant GM, we're thinking about this job. I mean,
- 24:56Speaker 1: some guys got calls and said no because of some
- 24:58Speaker 1: other factors in play. But for some guys like Paul D. Podesta,
- 25:02Speaker 1: it's been a dream to be a part of a
- 25:04Speaker 1: team like this because if you can crack the code
- 25:06Speaker 1: in Colorado, it's it's like final Boss in the video game,
- 25:10Speaker 1: like a really tough code to crack. In his prime, yeah, yeah, right,
- 25:16Speaker 1: when he was chomping ears of the video game.
- 25:21Speaker 3: Crats is it like were you saying, were you saying
- 25:25Speaker 3: if you crack the code for pitching or if you
- 25:27Speaker 3: just cracked the code everything.
- 25:30Speaker 1: I mean, even even hitting wise, Like sure, I mean
- 25:34Speaker 1: they had their days where the guys were bashing baseballs.
- 25:36Speaker 1: But but guys always say like they they see pitches
- 25:39Speaker 1: one way and then they're on the road and then
- 25:41Speaker 1: the pitch doesn't break the same. It's so different in
- 25:43Speaker 1: Colorado versus everywhere else. Am I wrong?
- 25:45Speaker 3: But there's always hate any hitters. The hate is just
- 25:49Speaker 3: so associated with playing in Colorado.
- 25:51Speaker 2: Ah.
- 25:52Speaker 3: No, everything talked about Nolan Eronado. Look what happens when
- 25:55Speaker 3: he leaves Colorado. He went to Saint Louis and now
- 25:58Speaker 3: look what he is. Like I I think, where if
- 26:03Speaker 3: you want to make you know your legendary status, if
- 26:05Speaker 3: you want to make a mark, it's the pitching. It's
- 26:08Speaker 3: the pitching.
- 26:09Speaker 2: What is it?
- 26:09Speaker 3: There's something there that you can absolutely corner the market
- 26:14Speaker 3: and you can make it so that when teams go
- 26:17Speaker 3: in there, we gotta face this because they always do
- 26:21Speaker 3: this when we're in Colorado. It's gonna be tough. Somebody's
- 26:24Speaker 3: gonna have to probably lose their job before they come
- 26:27Speaker 3: up with the actual answer. But you can't just keep well,
- 26:30Speaker 3: you know what, we're doing everything that the that all
- 26:33Speaker 3: the other organizations are doing. So we're just gonna keep
- 26:36Speaker 3: doing that exact same thing. Like they have to do
- 26:39Speaker 3: something a little bit different that pushes them over the top.
- 26:44Speaker 3: Because the teams that they've had really good teams. They've
- 26:47Speaker 3: had guys that have had career years pitching. Tyler Anderson
- 26:52Speaker 3: had a ridiculous year. He carried that team, plus their
- 26:55Speaker 3: lineup banged, So you have to have that in play
- 27:00Speaker 3: to be able to have the success.
- 27:03Speaker 1: We'll see what they do. We will see this is
- 27:05Speaker 1: their first signing of the off season, first signing of
- 27:07Speaker 1: the new regime. Let's get to some other money numbers
- 27:10Speaker 1: just quickly because we'll learn about a lot of them
- 27:12Speaker 1: after the show. The arbitration settlement frenzy has begun. Basically,
- 27:18Speaker 1: today is the deadline and if not you go to arbitration,
- 27:22Speaker 1: right so, or figures are being exchanged. I guess you
- 27:25Speaker 1: could still settle, but figures get exchanged here, so then
- 27:29Speaker 1: you go to arbitration. And right now you'll see tons
- 27:33Speaker 1: of news pop up from insiders reporting on how Ryan
- 27:36Speaker 1: Mackcastle and they were all settled on six point seven
- 27:40Speaker 1: eighty seven million. Ernie Clement boids are four point six million.
- 27:45Speaker 1: The ones at the top this year are Randy Rose
- 27:48Speaker 1: Arena and Trek Skooble. It's not based just on who
- 27:52Speaker 1: the best players are. It's based on their track record
- 27:54Speaker 1: leading up to this point and most importantly, how close
- 27:58Speaker 1: they are to free agency. So Randy and Terek are
- 28:00Speaker 1: both free agents after next year. We talked about this
- 28:03Speaker 1: on Fair Territory. It's actually kind of crazy. Terrek will
- 28:06Speaker 1: get more than Randy, but they're pretty close. And you
- 28:08Speaker 1: look and you're like, is that right? Last year of ARB,
- 28:11Speaker 1: the back to back side young winner, it's only going
- 28:13Speaker 1: to pull like eighteen nineteen mil. It seems like he
- 28:15Speaker 1: should be getting paid a little bit more on his
- 28:17Speaker 1: last year at ARB, or at least getting paid a
- 28:19Speaker 1: lot more than Randy is. Randy is a really nice player.
- 28:21Speaker 1: But yeah, the fact that those two, according to this
- 28:24Speaker 1: current system, are making a similar amount is a little nuts.
- 28:28Speaker 1: Randy settled already at about fifteen and a half and
- 28:30Speaker 1: it seems like School's going to end up in like
- 28:32Speaker 1: the maybe nineteen mill range. So those two are pretty close,
- 28:37Speaker 1: and we're going to get into it more tomorrow. There's
- 28:39Speaker 1: actually an article out that I want to cover tomorrow
- 28:41Speaker 1: about arbitration how MLB wants to kill it. But any
- 28:44Speaker 1: thoughts here, I mean, did you guys go through this
- 28:46Speaker 1: at all where he did the number exchange thing?
- 28:48Speaker 4: Oh yeah, oh yeah, it's fun, right, it's fun. It
- 28:51Speaker 4: came down to the last five minutes for me the
- 28:53Speaker 4: one time, and then you settled with the White Sox. Yeah,
- 28:58Speaker 4: I did? What did I do? I did? The first
- 29:02Speaker 4: year we did the first two years we did a
- 29:04Speaker 4: two year deal of arbitration for a.
- 29:06Speaker 2: Total of twelve It was like, I think it was
- 29:11Speaker 2: four and four and eight.
- 29:12Speaker 4: I don't know the exact numbers. I'm like, oh, this
- 29:15Speaker 4: is great. You know, I got two years. I'm gonna
- 29:17Speaker 4: make twelve million dollars. I'm set. It's pretty cool. And
- 29:19Speaker 4: then my third year they started off really low and
- 29:25Speaker 4: then we like I told my agent, I said, screw it,
- 29:27Speaker 4: go high. So we went really high, and then we
- 29:30Speaker 4: met exactly where we wanted to be. Like, it's just
- 29:33Speaker 4: so stupid, like why do you have to nickel and
- 29:35Speaker 4: dine back and forth? Why can't we give you the
- 29:38Speaker 4: number where it's supposed to be instead of taking two
- 29:41Speaker 4: months to figure out. And then my agent goes, we're
- 29:43Speaker 4: at twelve million. We have five minutes left. What do
- 29:45Speaker 4: you want to do?
- 29:47Speaker 2: Said okay, So I made another twelve million there, so
- 29:49Speaker 2: all good.
- 29:50Speaker 1: So you guys got what you wanted in the end,
- 29:51Speaker 1: but you had to battle to the finish line.
- 29:53Speaker 4: Yeah, pretty much. I mean it was you know, more
- 29:56Speaker 4: or less we you know it is what But it
- 29:57Speaker 4: was just so stupid.
- 29:59Speaker 2: It's so dumb.
- 30:00Speaker 3: I'll tell you why, Todd, because you're a man of
- 30:03Speaker 3: integrity and you have one career. They're coming to it
- 30:07Speaker 3: as we're going to have nine more Todd Fraser's in
- 30:11Speaker 3: the next fifty years. If we give Todd Fraser an
- 30:15Speaker 3: extra what were you guys haggling over two hundred thousand
- 30:18Speaker 3: dollars five hundred thousand dollars.
- 30:19Speaker 1: Probably more than that, No, two million.
- 30:22Speaker 4: I think we started at like they started at like six,
- 30:27Speaker 4: and we started at eighteen something.
- 30:28Speaker 2: Bogus.
- 30:30Speaker 4: It was not that far, I promise you on anything
- 30:33Speaker 4: I love.
- 30:34Speaker 2: They started out really low or eight or something.
- 30:37Speaker 1: They have to go above that. Last night, ye whatever,
- 30:40Speaker 1: your last number was eight. They probably just say stayed
- 30:42Speaker 1: around there.
- 30:43Speaker 4: I said, let's go. I say, they said, what do
- 30:44Speaker 4: you want to go? I said, let's go like eighteen
- 30:46Speaker 4: or twenty? Scrowl, you know what I mean? Well, listen
- 30:50Speaker 4: in my I didn't care.
- 30:52Speaker 1: But also this is an interesting strategy. I mean, usually
- 30:55Speaker 1: nowadays it's gotten so number oriented that the numbers are closer.
- 30:58Speaker 1: But the way arbitration works is that if you go
- 31:01Speaker 1: to your case, you present your number. They present them.
- 31:04Speaker 2: Any number they wanted, but there's the one they started
- 31:07Speaker 2: out with.
- 31:08Speaker 1: But no, they don't end up at the middle unless you,
- 31:10Speaker 1: guys settle. So the arbitration panel either says Todd's eighteen
- 31:14Speaker 1: or he's eight.
- 31:15Speaker 2: Or they can go in and put forth they wanted
- 31:17Speaker 2: to in the arbitration.
- 31:19Speaker 1: They can, but I think they wouldn't win that one.
- 31:21Speaker 2: But if you go to the.
- 31:22Speaker 1: Right, So if they did that, they'd be stupid, the
- 31:24Speaker 1: panel would It doesn't make sense. You got to go eighteen,
- 31:27Speaker 1: even though it's.
- 31:27Speaker 4: Rest that some teams and players would take exactly so whatever.
- 31:33Speaker 3: Yeah, but they but they know that there's going to
- 31:36Speaker 3: be nine more Todd Frasers and if they can, even
- 31:39Speaker 3: if they can cut you down by two hundred thousand
- 31:43Speaker 3: dollars out of twelve million dollars.
- 31:45Speaker 2: That's crazy, and I'll tell you no, no, just.
- 31:50Speaker 3: Over nine players, that gets up to close to two
- 31:53Speaker 3: million dollars that they're saving in the long term. And
- 31:56Speaker 3: that's that's how they're looking at it.
- 31:59Speaker 4: Sure, they put a they have this one guy forget
- 32:03Speaker 4: his name, and they always put him on the highest
- 32:05Speaker 4: number arbitration guy they do each year for the White Sox,
- 32:10Speaker 4: and I was the guy.
- 32:12Speaker 2: So they put this.
- 32:13Speaker 4: One guy to work tireless for a couple of months
- 32:15Speaker 4: to figure out and nickel and dime and get the
- 32:18Speaker 4: least amount of money you know, out of me.
- 32:20Speaker 1: He Well, their job is to basically go to baseball
- 32:24Speaker 1: court and say right, They'll be like, yo, I know
- 32:28Speaker 1: that he you know he in little league. He was
- 32:30Speaker 1: this legend. But he only went nine for ten in
- 32:32Speaker 1: this two game series. Like where was the other.
- 32:35Speaker 2: I would I would have I would have been in there.
- 32:37Speaker 2: I would have loved that and said no, but I was.
- 32:40Speaker 1: I was ready, man, I see, I would pay to
- 32:43Speaker 1: watch you watch this dude, tell you how bad.
- 32:46Speaker 2: You Oh, that's great, it would have been great. That's
- 32:49Speaker 2: good theater for a while.
- 32:51Speaker 3: I want to do it. I want to come up
- 32:53Speaker 3: with what year. I'm trying to figure out what year
- 32:55Speaker 3: that was that you went to. So that would have
- 32:58Speaker 3: been seventeen. So I want to make the arbitration argument
- 33:02Speaker 3: of why you sucked in sixteen?
- 33:05Speaker 1: Now that was that was six Well, no, seventeen was Yanks.
- 33:09Speaker 3: Ye, Now seventeen was your last year with the White Sox.
- 33:12Speaker 3: So you made twelve with the White Sox and then
- 33:17Speaker 3: you got traded over. So sixteen they were lucky forty
- 33:21Speaker 3: home runs. You didn't get to one hundred RBIs you
- 33:24Speaker 3: were too short with ninety eight. It's got a weird
- 33:28Speaker 3: thumbs and his strikeout to walk ratio was not great
- 33:36Speaker 3: and his thumbs are really weird. Oh and he had
- 33:38Speaker 3: fifteen stolen bases. Anybody could have stolen fifteen stolen bases.
- 33:43Speaker 3: I would have gotten you six million dollars.
- 33:47Speaker 2: Either way, it's all good.
- 33:50Speaker 1: But they would have said his thumbs project to a
- 33:55Speaker 1: five percent home run rate decline over this season. Yes,
- 34:00Speaker 1: that's why he's not worth that much. I mean, some
- 34:02Speaker 1: of these cases are crazy. We've talked about in the past.
- 34:05Speaker 1: There was the one with Corbyn Burns, I think against Milwaukee,
- 34:08Speaker 1: and that's when he used to come on the show.
- 34:10Speaker 1: Often and they said how the Brewers didn't make the
- 34:13Speaker 1: playoffs because Corbin had like two bad starts out of
- 34:15Speaker 1: thirty or something. It's like that one, to me is
- 34:17Speaker 1: kind of a joke. I'm like, how is that even
- 34:19Speaker 1: an argument? So he's amazing in twenty eight of thirty starts,
- 34:22Speaker 1: which makes him a number one, and you're saying you
- 34:24Speaker 1: didn't make the playoffs because he wasn't perfect. I don't know,
- 34:27Speaker 1: but that's the kind of stuff. It's real. It feels
- 34:29Speaker 1: very old school, the whole system. But we can talk
- 34:32Speaker 1: more about it tomorrow too, once we get all of
- 34:34Speaker 1: the final numbers coming through. We want to shout out
- 34:37Speaker 1: our members only content that we have put together pretty
- 34:42Speaker 1: hardcore over the next over the last month or so.
- 34:45Speaker 1: So it is five bucks a month to be a member.
- 34:47Speaker 1: You get the emojis, the live chat preferences, and then
- 34:50Speaker 1: members only content. We still are delivering ninety nine point
- 34:53Speaker 1: nine percent of everything we do free, breaking down news
- 34:57Speaker 1: all that. If you want, like a little more intimacy
- 34:59Speaker 1: with some of the the player stories and look backs
- 35:02Speaker 1: on things, we've taken it much more seriously due to
- 35:04Speaker 1: requests from many people saying, hey, I would love to
- 35:06Speaker 1: see more of the members only content. I want to
- 35:08Speaker 1: support FT, but I want to get a little more
- 35:10Speaker 1: bang for my bucks. So boom, there you go. We've
- 35:12Speaker 1: got thirteen of them and growing. There's one coming out
- 35:15Speaker 1: with Kevin Pillar breaking down some of the best catches
- 35:18Speaker 1: of his career. So you get some of those inside stories,
- 35:20Speaker 1: some of which we mix into the show. But we've
- 35:22Speaker 1: devoted special time to that, and we've seen many of
- 35:25Speaker 1: the members pop up even here in January. So just
- 35:29Speaker 1: a little love. We appreciate you, and we want to
- 35:31Speaker 1: make sure you're getting your money's worth, some of you
- 35:33Speaker 1: saying hey, we're watching you guys every day. We want
- 35:35Speaker 1: to throw a little bit your way. We want to
- 35:37Speaker 1: throw as much back to you as well. Let's hit
- 35:40Speaker 1: some fun comments from yesterday.
- 35:43Speaker 3: Yeah, that's what he said.
- 35:45Speaker 1: That's what he said, that's what he said. That's what
- 35:48Speaker 1: he said. So Paraminage and the GM of the Angels
- 35:55Speaker 1: spoke yesterday, and we can start with the tweet. Sam
- 35:58Speaker 1: Blum is always out there doing it excellent job covering
- 36:02Speaker 1: these press conferences, and also we spoke about this on
- 36:06Speaker 1: Fair Territory if you want to give that a look
- 36:08Speaker 1: after this show. But Blum put out an article that
- 36:12Speaker 1: said the lack of transparency by Angels Jim Perrymanashiin continues
- 36:16Speaker 1: to amaze. Here's one of the quotes from the presser.
- 36:19Speaker 1: We made a jump last year. I think we were
- 36:20Speaker 1: in the top four or five teams in wins from
- 36:23Speaker 1: the previous season. We expect to make another jump this year.
- 36:25Speaker 1: Blum pointed out how the team won sixty three games
- 36:28Speaker 1: and then in twenty four and then seventy two games
- 36:31Speaker 1: in twenty five. I guess if you keep making that jump,
- 36:33Speaker 1: you'll make the playoffs maybe in a year or two,
- 36:35Speaker 1: but that's not usually how it works. This revolved around
- 36:38Speaker 1: them asking to learn more details about the Anthony Rendoin situation,
- 36:43Speaker 1: and Perry really was not getting into it, and then
- 36:46Speaker 1: Sam is questioning if the team is actually going to
- 36:49Speaker 1: say spend the money they saved. In fairness, they are
- 36:52Speaker 1: one of those teams that we talked about yesterday that
- 36:54Speaker 1: is dealing with the TV money conundrum, and they don't
- 36:58Speaker 1: know how much money they're going to get from local
- 36:59Speaker 1: TV revenue coming into this year. And that is music
- 37:03Speaker 1: to the ears of an owner that can say, Hey,
- 37:05Speaker 1: I can't spend now because I don't know how much
- 37:06Speaker 1: money I'm making. But the main point here that I
- 37:10Speaker 1: actually pointed out Craton dork of the Week was how
- 37:15Speaker 1: Perry's been in the game for a long time. I mean,
- 37:17Speaker 1: he was what a clubby, his family's been in the game.
- 37:19Speaker 1: He's a really nice guy, He's a great combo a
- 37:22Speaker 1: little less GM speak. I would say this to him
- 37:24Speaker 1: at this point on the show if we had him on, like,
- 37:27Speaker 1: give me you guys do this all the time. I
- 37:28Speaker 1: usually let you guys do this. You todd aj like,
- 37:31Speaker 1: just talk to me like a person, give me a little.
- 37:34Speaker 1: Dombrowski does this, Alexanthopolis does this, many others do. But
- 37:37Speaker 1: Perry's just getting very buttoned up and maybe a little
- 37:39Speaker 1: bit pissed off. I mean, the Angels haven't been good
- 37:41Speaker 1: for a while, but some of the comments yesterday were
- 37:43Speaker 1: just they were It was almost like, why are we
- 37:46Speaker 1: doing a press conference if you're not saying anything. Can't
- 37:48Speaker 1: say anything about Rendon, can't say anything about Perrol, Like
- 37:50Speaker 1: what can we talk about? And of course he had
- 37:53Speaker 1: the incident a couple months ago trying to defend their
- 37:57Speaker 1: lack of air conditioning in the weight room, and it
- 37:59Speaker 1: turned into an Abbott and Costello back and forth. Look
- 38:03Speaker 1: that up, kids, if you don't know what it is.
- 38:05Speaker 1: So anyway, Eric, I think we've reached the point where
- 38:07Speaker 1: we got to call out Perry, like Perry a little
- 38:10Speaker 1: too much quarter zip talk.
- 38:13Speaker 3: I think it probably goes to the fact that he
- 38:17Speaker 3: gets pressure from the ownership. You think ownership's just like, hey, man,
- 38:21Speaker 3: you known handle the Tyler Skaggs, Anthony Rendon air conditioning,
- 38:27Speaker 3: handle all of our issues however you want to No.
- 38:31Speaker 3: I think when he came over, I think Perry did
- 38:34Speaker 3: a good job of understanding that he was kind of
- 38:37Speaker 3: a marionette that I think he was kind of pushing
- 38:41Speaker 3: in directions with all these scandals and issues and the
- 38:46Speaker 3: fact that now he's been there and he's seen the
- 38:48Speaker 3: fact that there is just a lack of infrastructure throughout
- 38:52Speaker 3: the organization. He's probably getting annoyed with Sam Blum just
- 38:57Speaker 3: being like, hey, like, give us an answer to this,
- 39:02Speaker 3: and he's like, you know what, Artie said, I can
- 39:05Speaker 3: still have my job if I don't piss him off
- 39:10Speaker 3: by my answers. Like I think, knowing Perry, the little
- 39:13Speaker 3: bit that I knew him watching his interviews earlier, it
- 39:16Speaker 3: does feel like there is a shift this year that
- 39:20Speaker 3: it seems like somebody's telling him, Hey, let's let's zip
- 39:24Speaker 3: it and let's let's give him, let's give him a
- 39:27Speaker 3: little bit less, like let's let's try to paint this
- 39:29Speaker 3: a little bit different, because you have to crack some
- 39:32Speaker 3: eggs to make an omelet, and I think in LA
- 39:38Speaker 3: they're gonna have to do some things that are gonna
- 39:40Speaker 3: be tough and look weird on the surface to make
- 39:44Speaker 3: the organization better. They're gonna have to do some things
- 39:46Speaker 3: that Artie Morino might be like, I don't really like that. Well,
- 39:49Speaker 3: you haven't liked it for years, and you're squandering the
- 39:53Speaker 3: best player of our generation's career. If you want a
- 39:56Speaker 3: shot at putting Mike Trout in the playoffs, these are
- 39:59Speaker 3: the things you have to do. And his answers right now,
- 40:03Speaker 3: Perry's answers right now feel like already saying we're not saying,
- 40:10Speaker 3: we're not saying this stuff anymore. So he's just kind
- 40:12Speaker 3: of given the I'm annoyed answers.
- 40:16Speaker 2: And Scott to kind of button this whole thing up.
- 40:18Speaker 4: In my situation, yeah, you got more wins last year,
- 40:21Speaker 4: but you have to make the playoffs.
- 40:23Speaker 2: You have to be a winning team, a winning organization.
- 40:26Speaker 4: You're still under five hundred and you have to put
- 40:28Speaker 4: your you know, I have to put your foot in
- 40:30Speaker 4: the door and open that door and say hey, we're
- 40:32Speaker 4: here and it's just not happening. I don't care how
- 40:34Speaker 4: many wins you had from last year to this year.
- 40:36Speaker 4: Doesn't mean they're gonna do it again. So you have
- 40:38Speaker 4: to find a way to make the playoffs.
- 40:40Speaker 2: You know, win a World Series is that's the goal.
- 40:42Speaker 2: But you have to get to the playoffs first.
- 40:44Speaker 1: No for them, oh my gosh, they'll take the playoffs
- 40:47Speaker 1: in a heartbeat. Angels fans will too. I mean, Angels
- 40:50Speaker 1: fans have gone through it is as much as any
- 40:53Speaker 1: fan base in sports for a while now. It's a
- 40:56Speaker 1: good point Kratz. He has to do with someone who
- 41:01Speaker 1: is waking up one day and making a different decision
- 41:05Speaker 1: or holding back certain infrastructure that almost every other team has.
- 41:08Speaker 1: It is not an easy job. In fairness, he knew
- 41:12Speaker 1: that when he accepted the job. He knew that everyone
- 41:17Speaker 1: knows how the Angels organization operates. It's not like he
- 41:20Speaker 1: went in there and said, you know what, everything's about
- 41:22Speaker 1: to change. Everything I've heard for years is going to change,
- 41:25Speaker 1: and they certainly haven't hit on some of the moves
- 41:29Speaker 1: that they've made. But we also don't know behind the
- 41:31Speaker 1: scenes how much of that has to do with who
- 41:33Speaker 1: made the decision.
- 41:37Speaker 3: That's the puppet part. He came in. He worked so tight.
- 41:41Speaker 3: I mean I saw Perry when he shifted from being
- 41:44Speaker 3: a clubby to being an assistant GM in Toronto, like
- 41:49Speaker 3: you're grinding through it. Anybody's ever grinded through working your
- 41:53Speaker 3: way up the ladder. He got to that GM role
- 41:57Speaker 3: and he's like, I am doing this. I work so
- 42:00Speaker 3: hard to get here. I am doing it. And now
- 42:06Speaker 3: maybe maybe I'm just speculating, but you have to go
- 42:09Speaker 3: in and you have to make changes. And even if
- 42:12Speaker 3: if I got that job, I would know what it is,
- 42:14Speaker 3: but I would also say, yeah, I'm going in to
- 42:17Speaker 3: make changes. You can't go in and be like this
- 42:20Speaker 3: place is hopeless. I'm just I'm just biding my time
- 42:23Speaker 3: for five years. Thanks for the job.
- 42:28Speaker 1: It ain't easy. But from a fan perspective, they just
- 42:31Speaker 1: want a little more. I don't even want to say transparency,
- 42:35Speaker 1: just like less not GM speak. Yeah, just give it,
- 42:40Speaker 1: just give me a little bit, be real under the
- 42:44Speaker 1: curtain be real little bit. You know, he's not the
- 42:47Speaker 1: only one that talks like this. It's not like I'm
- 42:49Speaker 1: just singling him out. It's just that he's shifted. You
- 42:51Speaker 1: feel this shift. There's definitely frustration with Sam Blom being
- 42:56Speaker 1: one of the best reporters in baseball. It's true. You've
- 42:59Speaker 1: got one of the best reporters in baseball out in
- 43:01Speaker 1: the area, and he doesn't just cover the Angels, but
- 43:03Speaker 1: he covers the Angels a lot, and so when he's
- 43:05Speaker 1: at pressers like this, he's not gonna let you get
- 43:08Speaker 1: away with skipping questions on broken air conditioning. You know.
- 43:12Speaker 1: It's like we talked about the media markets earlier. Generally
- 43:16Speaker 1: that's a pretty safe spot. But there are some really
- 43:20Speaker 1: strong reporters covering that team, and Sam Blum is one
- 43:22Speaker 1: of them. So he's gonna ask us questions and you
- 43:25Speaker 1: can get a little bit frustrating. While we have a moment,
- 43:28Speaker 1: I do want to plug pinstripe territory. Yesterday's episode had
- 43:32Speaker 1: Ken Rosenthal making a little appearance with Derek Lewandowski and
- 43:36Speaker 1: we have a clip.
- 43:38Speaker 5: I'm not exactly sure, but it's just the nature of
- 43:41Speaker 5: the baseball calendar. There are no signing deadlines. There are
- 43:44Speaker 5: no trade deadlines in the winter, and teams and agents
- 43:48Speaker 5: stare each other down. Teams and other teams stare each
- 43:51Speaker 5: other down and wait for the best possible deals, and
- 43:54Speaker 5: we get these endless delays.
- 43:57Speaker 1: That's Derek asking Ken why it's been low and John
- 44:00Speaker 1: Hammond reported that the Yankees weren't close on Edward Cabrera.
- 44:05Speaker 1: So I guess the Cubs beat them. Oh, in case,
- 44:07Speaker 1: he's a pretty big deal prospect to headline a package,
- 44:10Speaker 1: and the Yankees weren't able to match that. The Yankees
- 44:12Speaker 1: probably would have had to throw a Spencer Jones or
- 44:15Speaker 1: a Jason Domingez out to the Marlins to be able
- 44:18Speaker 1: to match that. Yeah, so they move on. They try
- 44:24Speaker 1: for Freddy p Freddy Pralton.
- 44:25Speaker 2: I mean, if a school name comes up, that's a different.
- 44:28Speaker 1: Story, then you're I mean, I would trade both of
- 44:30Speaker 1: those guys.
- 44:30Speaker 2: For schoobl I would have to agree, right, I think
- 44:34Speaker 2: I would.
- 44:34Speaker 1: Best pitcher in baseball. Give you a chance to win
- 44:37Speaker 1: a World Series for a year. Yanks haven't won in
- 44:39Speaker 1: a minute. Right, there's a line. You're not going to
- 44:42Speaker 1: give up ten dudes, but those two for that picture
- 44:47Speaker 1: worth it.
- 44:48Speaker 4: I said that about what's his name from the Red Sox,
- 44:52Speaker 4: the lefty just crochet. Yeah, I said that you gotta
- 44:55Speaker 4: give up the kitchen sink, and they all crushed me
- 44:58Speaker 4: on that. And guess what they gave up most?
- 45:00Speaker 1: They gave up a lot. And guess what they love him.
- 45:03Speaker 1: He's one of the best pitchers in baseball. I'm with you,
- 45:07Speaker 1: all Right's it for the people? Just a quick segment
- 45:10Speaker 1: here today. The Orioles picked up Big Christmas the other day.
- 45:15Speaker 1: Did you see that? Just for the holidays to be festive?
- 45:18Speaker 1: And now he's gone. I mean, we talked about how
- 45:22Speaker 1: this is actually really difficult for the player, but people
- 45:24Speaker 1: did have fun with it online. It's not like he
- 45:27Speaker 1: moved his whole life to Baltimore just yet, or I
- 45:30Speaker 1: hope he didn't, because it was only a little two
- 45:32Speaker 1: day thing. But the Orioles announced that they did designate
- 45:35Speaker 1: John Kenzie Noel for assignment. So it was an epic run.
- 45:39Speaker 1: You know, people online were like, post your best memories
- 45:41Speaker 1: of Big Christmas. That's a Baltimore oriole. So you know,
- 45:45Speaker 1: we had some responses. A historic run from Kyle online.
- 45:49Speaker 1: Here here's Kevin. Christmas does always seem to fly by quickly.
- 45:54Speaker 2: It does. Yeah, you gotta.
- 45:56Speaker 1: Have fun with life, right, I mean, I'm sure John
- 45:58Speaker 1: Kenzie's got a personality and appreciates this or a team. Yeah,
- 46:05Speaker 1: Baltimore wasn't necessarily the fit for him anyway.
- 46:10Speaker 2: Yeah, I don't. I don't get it.
- 46:12Speaker 1: Yeah. Well, I mean you're trying to fill up your
- 46:14Speaker 1: forty man and then things come and go. So actually,
- 46:17Speaker 1: I think Ken Rosenthal addressed this on Fair Territory and
- 46:20Speaker 1: talked about it. A fan asked a question. It was
- 46:22Speaker 1: after I was on I was on the show for
- 46:23Speaker 1: the first twenty then I had to hang around with
- 46:25Speaker 1: with you guys.
- 46:26Speaker 3: But what Kratz, Oh No, I was just gonna say.
- 46:29Speaker 3: And they get a chance to put him through waivers
- 46:32Speaker 3: now and he could go to Triple A for him,
- 46:34Speaker 3: he could. You know, there's there's different little intricacies that
- 46:37Speaker 3: guys don't think about because this stuff doesn't happen to
- 46:40Speaker 3: Juan Soto, Bryce Harper, Zach Wheeler. You know, it doesn't
- 46:43Speaker 3: happen to those guys. But it's real life for Don Kenzie.
- 46:46Speaker 3: He was playing down in the d R this year.
- 46:48Speaker 3: I was just looking it up. He played on in
- 46:51Speaker 3: the last two years now, he's played on two different
- 46:53Speaker 3: DR teams. He played for the Astraeus. Now he's playing
- 46:56Speaker 3: for the t Grace or no, I'm sorry to Toros.
- 46:59Speaker 3: So it's it's real life. And maybe maybe he passes through,
- 47:04Speaker 3: goes to Triple A and a team from Japan calls
- 47:07Speaker 3: him and the Orioles get a little bit of cash
- 47:09Speaker 3: because they sell his rights to Japan.
- 47:11Speaker 1: That's true. I forgot about that. That's a sneaky little
- 47:14Speaker 1: call out right there, and that happens more than people think, Oh,
- 47:19Speaker 1: that kind of back could play. Oh yeah in the NPB.
- 47:22Speaker 2: Missiles out there and some of those fields aren't that big.
- 47:24Speaker 1: No, And then sometimes they come back. Tyler Austin just
- 47:27Speaker 1: came back. Was he in kb O or NPB? That
- 47:29Speaker 1: was your former teammate?
- 47:30Speaker 2: Right, here's here's an MPB. Yeah.
- 47:34Speaker 1: Back, he's back with the Cubs. One year. Oh, major
- 47:38Speaker 1: league deal, too, major league deal?
- 47:40Speaker 2: Good for him.
- 47:41Speaker 1: He's back. He can he's huge, he is huge, enormous.
- 47:45Speaker 1: Was it Giant and Luko both on the team together
- 47:49Speaker 1: and they're like doing the one handed bench press?
- 47:52Speaker 4: Yeah, I don't know what it was, but he's a

- 47:58Speaker 4: now since we played. He was a month stir over
- 48:00Speaker 4: there in Japan, and he was like the king over there.
- 48:05Speaker 3: He's not huge. He has really small arms, and so
- 48:08Speaker 3: it makes the rest of his body look big, and
- 48:10Speaker 3: he can refute that when he comes on.
- 48:12Speaker 2: He's going to crush you for that. I will crush
- 48:15Speaker 2: him that.
- 48:16Speaker 3: I was his uber driver when we played together in
- 48:19Speaker 3: San Francisco, so he owes me to come on the show.
- 48:22Speaker 3: He can't keep junkings
